Women s Impact On The United States
Since their inception in the 19th century, women s colleges in the United States have faced
significant challenges and undergone a multitude of transformations in their pursuit to educate
women (Kratzok, 2010; Thelin, 2004; Turpin, 2010). In recent years, economic hardship has
forced many women s colleges to reexamine their identity and initial purpose, as rising costs and
dwindling enrollments have led a majority to co educate or close their doors entirely (Hursh Wall,
2011; Kratzok, 2010). The fierce competition for students in today s higher educationclimate has hit
women s institutions particularly hard, as once there were over three hundred women s colleges
and only about seventy presently remain (Women s College Coalition, 2001). Though women make
up the majority of undergraduate students (Turpin, 2010), the future of these small, private women
s colleges seems uncertain (Langdon Giovengo, 2003). However, by examining their contentious
historical beginnings to their evolution in the 21st century, one can determine the pivotal role
women s colleges still play in the United States higher education system. The origins of higher
education in the United States can be traced all the way back to the colonial era, with the founding
of Harvard University in 1636 (Delbanco, 2012; Thelin, 2004). However, it would take another two
centuries for women to receive similar opportunities of advanced education. Excluded from
attending colleges by statute (Thelin, 2004), women in

Comparing Burning Chrome And Johnny Mnemonic
In the short story Burning Chrome by William Gibson and the movie Johnny Mnemonic combined
3 elements between human beings and technology, which is hard science fiction, soft science
fiction, and the higher technical development of technology in the future cyberpunk. Besides that,
William Gibson had mentioned about the cyborg, they are part humanand part machine, but what
does it mean to be a cyborg and what do cyborg say about the relationships between human beings
and technology? The idea about cyborgs, and the relationship between humans and technology are

been applied to the main character of the book (Johnny) when on page 2. Johnny says, I had
hundred of megabytes stashed in my head on an idiot/savant basis, information I had no
conscious access to. As you can see that, Johnny was impacted by the implanting technology into
his head, he became intelligent most likely like a robot, which he could store a large amount of
data in his brain and he becomes more agile. In addition, Jones the dolphin in the story is the
only one character known as the cyborgs . It is unrealistic to believe that an animal could
become cyborgs, Jones as the programming system which he could read and store specific code.
Jones took a significant play at the end of the story; he helped Johnny to get back into his human
form by taking the implant genre out of his brain. Plus, there are also negative impacts of implant
system into your body are: Johnny had lost his memories when he was the child because of the
implanting system. He turned into a very passive in both the movie and story, because when your

`` Night `` By Elie Wiesel
Robert Shapiro, an American civil litigator once said, To me, the Holocaust stands alone as the
most horrible human event in modern civilization, The Holocaust, a genocide led by Adolf Hitler,
killed six million jews, and dramatically affected the whole world. The memoir Night, written by
Elie Wiesel describes the brutality Wiesel experienced during the Holocaust, and how life changing
it was. Although some may believe the memoir written by Elie Wieselwas titled Night because he
was forced to leave his home during the night, Wiesel illustrates Jewslosing hope, faith, and
happiness through the symbol of Night, to prove that the memoir was titled Night to symbolize the
darkness the holocaust created. The first darkness that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wiesel then gave up, he figured there was no longer a chance that he could be saved which again
led to darkness. Is this example, the darkness the night brings symbolises loss of hope, and
becoming closer to death. Once Wiesel gave up trying, and claimed it was over, the light in his
life got slightly dimmer, and he became closer to death. The next reason Night was the title of
the memoir written by Wiesel was because the darkness in night symbolized death. Thousands of
Jews were sentenced to death each day, leaving everybody a little more hurt and broken. The first
example of death, that helps portray the title of Night, is in the quote, Was there a single place
here where you were not in danger of death? (Wiesel 37). In this quote, Wiesel shows how
dangerous and recurrent death was and bases the title off of these dangerous, mass killings.
Darkness commonly symbolizes death, and the pain and suffering one feels being exposed to it.
The symbol also helps show that the killings were not normal, they were darker like the night, more
evil and inhumane than anything they had previously experienced. The title Night, symbolizes the
darkness during this painful event, and the darkness universally symbolizes evil. So by using the
title Night, Wiesel is able to indirectly explain how inhumane these mass killings really are. Another
quote that shows the title is used to symbolize

Yes and No in Korean Essay
Yes and No
After coming to America, I have suffered from the improper usage of yes and no. I sometimes
confuse an affirmative response with a negative one because the usage of yes and no in Korean is
different from English. For example, if I am asked, Haven t you had dinner yet? and I have not
had dinner yet, then in Korean I usually say, Yes, I haven t. But in English, I have to say, No, I
haven t. This different usage of yes and no in Korean and in English sometimes causes
misunderstandings or even estrangements between my American friends and me.
Because of my misuse of yes and no, I often find that my friends misunderstand me: They perceive

He said that I pronounced of course so strongly that he could not ask me further; he thought that I
was very proud of being a North Korean. I actually affirmed what I wanted to negate strongly.
The different usage of yes and no also causes estrangement between my friends and me. During the
summer of 1989, my close friend was a dorm mate, Mark. He was in his late twenties and had
gotten married about five years ago. One sultry weekend night, he brought his son and daughter
into the dorm. Playing with each other, his son and daughter made some noise while they were
running up and down. I did not mind the noise since I was just watching T.V. The next morning, I
came across Mark and his offspring in the doorway of the dorm. After we both said, Hello, he
introduced his children to me.
Nice to meet you. How old are you? I asked his son.
He is three years old, Mark replied on behalf of his son and asked me smiling, Didn t they make
noise last night? Didn t it bother you? Because I did not mind the noise at all, I clearly said Yes!
How stupid I appeared to be! The mild smile suddenly disappeared from his face, and he said, I am
sorry about that. They are going right now, so they will not bother you

Understanding Lord Byron The Romantic Period

Understanding Lord Byron
The Romantic Period was a time where life changed for so many. At the time, nations were
experiencing the results of the Industrial Revolution. England was the first nation in the world to
experience the effects of the Industrial Revolution (Henry 527). Instead of products being made
by hand, they were being made now by machines. Homes of people were being used for
industries. The people most affected were those of the lower class. No one cared about them.
People were ignoring the changes in the world. Romantics wanted to show the world that these
changes were negative changes. The writers during the Romantic Period wanted to bring real life

It changed the way of living, which changed the way of thinking. Imagination was seen as one of
the key features to describe one s perspective of the world. Henry explains that the human
imagination is some kind of desire a motive that drives the mind to discover things that it cannot
learn by rational or logical thinking (532). Logical thinking could not explain the importance in
change, so something else had to be used. Imagination drives a person s mind into deeper thought
than does reason. He explains how life on earth dies off. All earth was but one thought and that
was death (Byron 42). Writing about an apocalyptic world, brings out the curiosity of people;
therefore, people use imagination to put themselves in this situation to be able to understand.
William quotes, I see everything I paint in this world, but everybody does not see alike (532).
Everyone has a different perspective. It is hard to be able to explain the writer s writing without
imagination and creativity. Readers don t use reason to understand the poet s intention. Using
reason, just describes only one point of view. Henry states, Romanticism turned away from the
eighteenth century emphasis on reason and artifice. Instead, the Romantics embraced imagination
and naturalness (529). During the period, they believed that imagination, rather than mere reason,
was the best response to the forces of change (Henry 529). According to Henry, Wordsworth

Flu Shots Experience
Today I got to experience giving middle school and high school students flu shots at Lanier County
Middle/High School. I was expecting the students to be nervous and show signs of intimidation at
the sight of the needle. Before going to the school, I helped the nurse gather the equipment we were
going to use, which included, the influenzaimmunizations, Band Aids, alcohol prep wipes, and
gloves. We also brought colorful pencils and stickers for the students after receiving their flu shot.
The nurse also made sure to bring the emergency kit, which consisted of epinephrine, just in case
anyone had an allergic reaction. Once we arrived at the school, we discovered that only 30 students
out of 800 had consent forms to receive their flu... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This health department does a good job with keeping patients up to date on their immunizations. A
patient came in wanting a flu shot, and was 69 years old. The nurse questioned the patient about if
she had ever received the pneumococcal immunization. The patient had never received the vaccine,
so we talked to the patient about its importance, and she ended up getting immunized. We had
another young couple come in for flu shots, so I got a lot of practice with giving intramuscular
shots today. Generally, I think Lanier County health department does contribute to the overall
health of the community. They are efficient when a patient comes in to do a thorough assessment,
not just physical, but asking about the patients home life and family. The number of people that
have come to the health department to receive an influenza shot has represented a large portion of
Lanier County residents. This can potentially reduce the spread of influenza through out the
community. Because there were so few students at the schools to receive the shot, the nurses
discussed going back to the schools to try to get more students immunized in hopes of further
reducing the frequency of influenza within the school system and the

The purpose of the march is to call out on the demands of the movement strike at the heart of the

student debt, and tuition free public college (Redzeal). What this means is that PYO KC brought
this movement to Kansas City to get students to fight against all the forms in which segregation has
been institutionalized as well as to put an end to student debt. The Million Student March has

The Effects Of Video Games On A Global Scale
Introduction:
Video games on a global scale have become one of the most lucrative of what is considered new
media in today s society. They came from humble beginnings in the form of games such as Pong
and Pacman, games that consisted of limited color and moving dots. Now the gaming industry is
worth billions of dollars. In a recent study conducted by Forbes magazine in 2012, figures showed
that the video game industry was worth an estimated 67 billion dollars and in 2017 it will be
worth an estimated 82 billion dollars (Gaudiosi, 2012). With its rise in popularity as a result of its

In a study conducted by Stephen Burgess titled Video Game Playing and Academic Performance in
College Students . He states that Students may be able to report studying while watching TV,
whereas playing a video game may require more focused attention ( pg. 377). With video games
demanding more attention from the player, time is ultimately sacrificed for the perceived self
gratification of the player.
Recent research showed that heavy video game play had an effect on the ability of the gamer to
manage his/her time effectively. The purpose of this proposed study is to examine the
relationship between video game play and time management skills. First, this current research
attempts to discover whether or not gender plays a role in the relationship between time
management and video game play. It is also to find out the age groups that are most likely to
practice poor time management skills as a result of heavy video game play. Lastly, this proposed
research aims to explore whether or not the relationship between video game play and poor time
management skills is genre specific. Upon completion of this research, a greater and more complete
understanding of the relationship between heavy video game play and time management skills will
be attained. The significance of this study is rooted in the main objective of finding out the direct
relationship between heavy video game play and poor time management skills. After the study is

Abstract:
In the Dyes and Crimes laboratory experiment, the phosphorescence, fluorescence, and
chemiluminescence properties i.e. traits of several chemicals were examined using (UV)
Ultraviolet lamp. Observations on color, intensity, duration of glow, etc. were analyzed to
determine the traits of the several chemicals. Correspondingly, the author of the unsigned note was

The dyes in the laboratory experiment are made of numerous colors, mainly red and blue, the
spectra from each of the dyes corresponded to the wavelengths obtained from each of dye i.e. 620
nm for red and 450 nm for blue.
Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) works in relation to the polarity of chemicals. A plate is first
covered with aluminum foil or silica etc. and has solutions of varying polarities placed upon the
aluminum foil or silica. When placed in a in a puddle of solvent that moves up the plate, the
different inks i.e. the solution will move up the place based on their Rf values. Adherence increases
with increasing polarity, so the less polar compounds will be carried farther by the solvent.
Eventually the dyes will separate into their compontnets, which can be visibly seen. This is then
used to determine who the ink of the unsigned note belonged to along with the pen that it belonged

An Analytical And Conceptual Framework On The Possibility...
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION This thesis explores an analytical and conceptual framework
on the possibility of employee ownership influence on organizational loyalty as it applies to the
modus operandi of John Lewis Partnership. There are divergent views about the influence of
employee ownership on organizational loyalty. Research suggests that ownership may influence
organizational loyalty (e.g. Taylor, 2011) but it is not completely clear how, thereby prompting
various researches and scientific experimentation on the subject matter. Scholars (e.g. Lampel et al,
2010) reviewing the performance differences between companies that practice employee ownership
framework and other forms, like State owned Enterprises (SOE) have provisioned mixed results. On
the average, these investigation by various scholars and academia opined that employee ownership
and privatization usually results in improved loyalty and financial performance (e.g., Andrew and
Dowling (1998); Martin and Parker (1997), Lioukas and Kouremenos (1989)). The process of
employee ownership, involving all business activities and functions associated with exploitation
and opportunities identification (Bygrave and Hofer, 1991; Shane and Venkataraman, 2000), have
spawned considerable interests from practitioners and academics. In reality, the employee
ownership functionalities are processes and elements that are vital to the growth of a business

States and passed the 14th and 15th amendments, reconstruction failed on many other vital issues.
The radical republican legislation that promised freedom and equality for all was far from a reality
for black Americans. Legislation failed to protect former slaves from white supremacy, and
persecution. The entire social and cultural backbone of the south needed reform in order for African
Americans to enjoy the freedom and equality that this nation promised, unfortunately this change
did not come during the reconstruction. In 1877 president Hayes removed federal troops from the
south, almost immediately former confederates and slave owners returned

Essay on Language Development in Childhood Development
Everyday we are developing no matter our age, but it is how we develop children that will tell a
tremendous amount an individual. How a child developments is fundamentally important at a
young age as it affects all aspect of their lives once the child matures. Throughout the class, we
looked at many theorists during the course of the semester as well as looked at many articles
pertaining to the concepts of the development of children. The theorists and articles opened up our
minds to a world that we have never seen before and concepts about child development we have
never been taught but have seen in the practical work we do every week. What makes humans
unique is the ability that we have to interpret the language being used, as Lois Bloom... Show more

Numerous studies have been done in this area as there are many children living in poverty in
North America and all across the world. There are roughly over one billion children living in
poverty around the world (United Nations Children s Fund, 2010). The Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United describes poverty as Lack of knowledge and good skills in herding
was widely given as a main cause of poverty. Living in poverty can seriously affect a child s life
as the child would not be able to go to school or would do poorly because there was nothing to eat
at home so they would not be able concentrate. The child when old enough would have to work all
day to make money for the family and many other harsh realities throughout their lifetime.
Throughout the course of this paper I will be explain how poverty effects language development of
a child because of the reasons of parental education and having a low socioeconomic status. In this
paper, I do talk a lot about school statistics a number of times but that is because I believe if one
does not have their language skills fully developed the results will show in their work ethic and
grades in school. It is important to understand that poverty does not have a direct consequence to
language development but it is things associated with poverty such as parental education, health
care, child care, low socioeconomic status and many other variables that play an influence in

NHL Player Tracking Essay
According to the Sports Business Daily article, NHL aims for player tracking system this year ,
vision based tracking systems have not been the most accurate when it comes to tracking the
puck on the ice. This is mainly because of the speed of the puck and its unpredictable movement
(Thomas, 2017). It is also because of its tendency to be covered up by the goalie which can lead to
incorrect readings. For this reason, the NHL has talked with two potential vendors that can provide
each of these individual technologies (Thomas, 2017).
David Lehanski, senior vice president of business development and global partnerships of the NHL
states that their goal is to test the technologies at the 2017 2018 All Star Game in Tampa, Florida
(Thomas, 2017). They will be looking to see how the technologies are implemented and if they are
successful throughout this next trial run.
According to the Sports Business Daily article, NHL aims for player tracking system this year ,
having a computer vision tracking system in the NHL, would provide the league with an accurate

The Issue Of Beps Involving Interest Deductions And Other...
Countries have adopted a variety of approaches to address the issue of BEPS involving interest
deductions and other financial payments. Some have implemented thin capitalisation legislation,
which in this paper refers broadly to the rules limiting the deductibility of interest expenses and
other financial payments with respect to the financial arrangements of MNEs (I). Some countries
instead rely on, or have supplemented their thin capitalisation legislation with, other general tax law
mechanisms providing for an increased taxation of the returns on debt(II). Other restrictions
applicable to payments to tax havens entities or targeted anti avoidance rules (TAAR) can similarly
tackle this issue (III). In practice, the current trend is the application of a hybrid approach (IV).
I. Thin capitalisation legislation
In this essay, thin capitalisation legislation broadly refers to the general rules limiting the tax
deductibility of interests and other financial payments. Such rules can take a variety of forms. On
the one hand, some countries restrict relief on interest expenses either by an application of the arm
s length principle (A) or by limiting the amount of debt on which deductible financial payments are
available through a safe harbour debt to equity ratio (B). On the other hand, several countries have
adopted interest barrier rules (earning stripping rules) to limit the amount of interest that may be
deducted by reference to the ratio of interest to another variable

Collectivism Vs. Individualism In Rand s The Fountainhead
Howard Roark is a Compelling character in the Fountainhead. He encompases all that is all that
is an individual and overall represents the main point of the theme. Roark is Ryand s absolute
vision on what a perfect human should be and she uses her novel to represent through an array of
characters how all different personalities and beliefs can be interpreted in a society; but her main
point that only way to have a true sense of self is make your own decisions and be a complete adult.
One of the most protruding themes throughout the novel is collectivism versus individualism. The
main difference between both these ideas is that in individualism rather than collectivism, every
person is expected to think mostly about him/herself and to live primarily for him/herself. The
needs of the individual person can never be given up to the needs of the many. Therefore, Roark s
desire to have his own drawings and sketches created exactly as he designed them is more
important than the poor s need for housing or even the government s desire to house the poor. In
The Fountainhead, individualism is overbearingly abundant, ... Show more content on

Essay about The Heat Death Of The Universe

In today s busy world, many people get so caught up in their own ambience that they overlook all
the other things out there. Some people seem treat their surroundings as if it were their own little
world ;, creating tunnel vision to the array of the actual real world and all the things that occur in
it. Pamela Zoline addresses this and many other issues in the short story, The Heat Death of the
Universe ;. This piece reports the abstract, somewhat crazy thoughts, of the world from an ordinary
housewife to the reader. At first, these thoughts appear to be coming from a severely confused and
mentally unstable person, with no point what so ever. Contrary to the evidence stated in the text, ...

Moreover, it would be easier to be able to access financing from the banking institutions as Java

What Factors Affect Florida State Troopers
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
This study on understanding what factors influence Florida State Troopers in Orange County to
enforce the driving under the influence (DUI) statute was done in part by listening (Burns and
Anderson, 1995) to the experiences of the Florida State Troopers who have lived that experience of
DUI enforcement, and to draw common themes from these experiences. This qualitative
phenomenological study with the theoretical underpinnings of Interpretative Phenomenological
Analysis (Shinebourne, 2011) was conducted using a small sample of participants (Florida State
Troopers) who work in Orange County. The sample, n=10, consisted of Troopers whose duties
(Trochim, 2006) as Florida Highway Patrol Officers, entailed enforcement of the Florida DUI
Statute.
Introduction to the Problem
According to Burns and DiQuiano (1987), driving under the influence (DUI) is a serious crime
that contributes to approximately 9% of traffic related crashes, injuries, and fatalities in the
State of Florida. Burns and Diquiano (1987) further states that several obstacles to reducing DUI
crime in Florida during their study emerged. DUI s in Orange County were up 20% in 2014 over
2013 when there were 3031 DUI arrests or about 25 DUI s for every 10,000 residents across the
State there were 9592 DUI arrests which signifies that Orange County accounts for 32% percent of
the DUI s across the State (Swearingen, 2015).
According to Burns Diquiano (1987), the perceived obstacles to proper DUI

One way the Federal Government can make healthcare more effective is to make it more
affordable. This can be accomplished by reintroducing the originally slated public option to the
Affordable Healthcare Act. The public option was originally included in the ACA and even
passed the initial House vote. However, it was later removed by the Senate Financial Committee
and not included in the final Senate bill that passed (citation needed). There are three reasons why
the public option should to be reintroduced into the health care system: to help control premium
costs, increase marketplace competition in rural areas and increase the quality and diversity of
offered plans. Indeed, what is so important about the national option is that it will naturally
function as a benchmark , or price and care baseline, within the current insurance exchange system
mandated by the ACA (citation needed). By virtue of currently existing systems such as Medicare,
the public option will have access to superior negotiating leverage that will help keep private
competitive rates affordable. Indeed, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO),
administrative costs under the public Medicare plan are less than 2 percent of expenditures,
compared with approximately 11 percent of spending by private plans under Medicare Advantage

Sexual Love And The Freedom And Happiness Shared By Two...
The Song portrays the virtue of sexual love and the freedom and happiness shared by two lovers.
The Song speaks of a sexual love between man and woman who stands equally before each other
in the privacy of their intimacy with no consciousness of the hierarchies of their public world.
Equal standing in its most encompassing meaning neither one is superior nor inferior, but equally
ready to initiate and invite, equally desiring and eager to please and be pleased, both transparent
about fantasies and pleasures received, equally vocal to endear and arouse, same senseof wholeness
and brokenness, of shamelessness and abandon. Passion is matched with passion; longings are
returned with the same intensity no holding back and no concern for anything except to ravish
each other, both take pleasure, and absorbed in each other in their own Eden. Thus, sex is
honorable, pleasurable, and paradisal. The Song is devoid of any patriarchal mindset; the
woman exhibits a consciousness of being highly valued. If she s in a patriarchal society, then she
has learned to be counter cultural, just as the Hebrew Bible is counter cultural with ANE and
other ancient literature. She neither sees herself oppressed nor in a subordinate position. She
values her sensuality and sexuality and sees herself as good as anyone else, even if her patriarchal
world refuses to offer equal opportunity for her kind. Or perhaps she truly lives in a heterarchical
culture? She does not strive to be equal with men

Aboriginal Voting Rights
This report will cover the history of the Aboriginal Voting rights in Australia. The Aboriginals did
not gain the right to federal voting at least 150 years after the British colonized in Australia. All
citizens of a nation deserve equal rights.
Several key events and people influenced the journey and results of Aboriginal voting rights. Many
major contributions towards the indigenous voting rights can be described as international
criticism, Aboriginal Protests and Political conflicts. Male Aboriginal Australians were recognised
as male people, and therefore could vote in state elections, It was expected to stay this way.
However, the white Australiapolicy in 1901 caused many Aboriginal Men to lose their state voting
rights and banned them from enrolling in federal elections, According to (hgj) The electoral
officials had the power to decide who was an Aboriginal Native or not. After several years of
discrimination, in 1934 Indigenous Australians took a stand in a day of mourning for indigenous
rights. Another powerful argument for Aboriginal Australians was their world war efforts from
1914 to 1918. Many white Australians that fought with the Indigenous Australians believed that if
they are good enough to fight and die for their country then they are good enough to vote in
elections As a result of this effort, 1945 marked the year that all male Aboriginal war participants
were granted Federal election voting rights. It is important to remember when and how the

Jerusalem By Saladin
The Capture of Jerusalem by Saladin A Crusade is military excursions made by Western European
Christians during the late eleventh century through the late thirteenth century. Crusades offered
peasants an escape from the brutal Feudal System, because peasants who took up the cross were

Analysis of Friar Lawrence and the Nurse
Analyze the characters of the Nurse and Friar Laurence as mentors to the young people in the
play. Do these two people do the right thing by Romeo and Juliet? The nurse and Friar are
sophisticated characters that act as parental figures within the prolix and truculent play. The
timeless classic Romeo and Juliet (RJ) by William Shakespeare revolves around the notion of
determinism, death, love and deception. Despite Romeo and Juliet having warring parents who
pay little regard to them, the Nurse and Friar act as parental figures towards them who guide
through vexed situations in their best interest, however, this only prolongs their declivity, with the
Friar acting as a motif of death and the Nurse acting as a beacon of hope. By... Show more content

The Nurse concedes this proposal because of her motherly affection towards Juliet, as it is in her
best interest and desires to witness Juliet wed with a genuine love rather than an arranged
agreement. Although this can be seen as an congenial gesture, it completely rescinds the social
discourses of the time, consequently justifying that the Nurse is not a great advisor unlike the Friar.
The first exposure to the Friar shows his careful, wise manner and his obvious care for Romeo s
best interests rather than his own satisfactions. This characterization of Friar Laurence is greatly
flawed due to his impetuous thinking when put under the pressure of having two teens approach
him with the intention of killing themselves, as he attempts to guide Romeo and Juliet during their
struggles. Shakespeare laminates the Friar with fault as he is arguably the incentive, along with the
nurse for Romeo and Juliet s cessation, hence becoming the rationale of their declivity. Shakespeare
adopts symbolism upon the Friar and the Nurse. The contrasting of darkness and light is seen all

The future generations will scarcely believe that such a man in flesh and blood, had tread this earth.

In London, Gandhi joined The University of London to study law. He passed the London
Matriculation at the second attempt. He was unknown of any English Laws. He bought many
books and tried to understand them but it was beyond him. At last he sailed back for India on the
12th of June 1891, a day after he was enrolled into the English High Court. While in India, he went
to Bombay to study Indian Laws. But even this was difficult for him. Eventually he got a case, but
in the court he became so nervous that he left during the case and never went to another one until
going to South Africa.
Gandhi sailed for South Africa in April 1893 and reached Natal at the close of May. It was in
South Africa that Gandhi had a lot of experience in laws, handling cases and many other fields.
He observed the pitiful conditions of the Indians and other colored people and also experienced it
when on his way to Pretoria from Natal, he was thrown out of a train because he was the only
colored person in the first class compartment. The case for which Gandhi had come to South Africa
was between two businessmen, Abdullah Seth and Tyeb Seth, concerning a huge amount of money.
Gandhi had to defend Abdullah Seth. He worked very hard and convinced Tyeb Seth for arbitration.
Abdullah Seth won the arbitration and

How Does Joseph Conrad Present The Ethical Insolvency Of...
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness demonstrates the questionable connection between the civilized
and uncivilized, colonizers and colonized. It additionally indicates how Kurtz affected the locals,
and took them under his immediate control by keeping up a legitimate position. The locals with
losing their awareness made Kurtz a man with a perfectpersonality. Haziness and wickedness
originate from Kurtz s conduct.Through his character Conrad depicts the ethical insolvency of
colonialismby indicating European intentions and activities as no better than African Fetishism and

At home, they were deferential of their administrations. However, in the colonized areas they used

happening and that is why the indigenous individuals encountered the mental impacts of othering.
European social philosophy is a sort of methodology to win the heart of locals by demonstrating
their purported blessing to civilize the savage individuals. Conrad uncovered the degeneration of
white men in Africa with a unique ethical vision. The fundamental point of any of
otheringdiscourse is to affirm the colonizers predominance over their colonized subjects. It is a
procedure to construct binaries described by Others ; these others are enthusiastic, regressive and
savage while White are self, modern, sane, or disciplined. The expression othering shows European
state of mind towards different societies and creates two different categories; one is human and
prevalent and the other is sub par and sub human. European intellectuals deliberately or
intentionally created twofold clashes by depicting Self and Other representations through their
writings. The locals are portrayed as savages, wild and threatening upon the civilized world. In this
way, European social belief system is a venture or a framework that influences the brain of the
indigenous individuals to push them to trust themselves as subjects. Accordingly, social colonialism

Power In Dracula
The Gothic world is fascinated by the struggle for power . In light of this statement, discuss the
ways in which writers present types of power. Gothic writers are fascinated by power struggles, but
often shock readers by reversing conventional power differences. Examples of this include the
power of rationality against religion, and the female voice and sexuality being powerful, highly
controversial topics during the Victorian era. These power struggles often reflect the writer s own
experiences and views, for example Poe frequently presents power struggles between humans and
the supernaturaldue to losing his loved ones, and mental illness. Similarly, in Dracula , Stoker
portrays the supernatural as powerful, but with strong sexual undertones,... Show more content on

Carter uses sexual dominance in The Bloody Chamber as a metaphor for women s social
inequality with He in his London tailoring; she, bare as a lamb chop . The separation of the
pronoun she represents the isolation forced upon her by her overbearing husband. The girl is
also mentioned after the Marquis in this sentence, showing how she ranks after him and has no
control now that she s married. Women are often seen as passive as the Marquis assesses the girl
with the eyes of a connoisseur , implying that she is an object to be owned and lusted after.
Sivyer writes the man assumes an active and dominant role whilst his bride is positioned as
passive . Her passivity is shown when she says He made me put on my choker , she was forced
to do it and offered no resistance. The choker itself represents her captivity as it s similar to a
collar, implying that the Marquis is her owner, also exemplified as he calls her my little nun . This
condescension mocks the girl for her innocence, asserting the Marquis s dominance, but also the
possessive pronoun my shows ownership; he believes that his wife belongs to him. Interestingly,
Dracula uses similar possessive language to assert power over another male (Jonathan), exclaiming
This man belongs to me! This declarative statement shows that he has decided that Jonathan is his
property, showing his desire for dominance and possession to exhibit his power. His wickedness is

Is Diversity an Issue Within Law Enforcement From the Past...
The term diversity refers to the condition of being diverse; thus, composed of distinct forms or
qualities (The Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2004). Looking back at the history of the U.S., there
has always been a diverse population in many jurisdictions. But did policy agency workforces
mirror this diversity of the communities they served? When in the past the issue of diversity within
law enforcement was at stake, where the same measures used today the same as the in the past? The
U.S s law enforcement mores originate from the English Law Enforcement. When the U.S. came

This division in society even went further to discriminate depending on an individual s social status,
duration in the U.S., sexual orientation, and racial backgrounds. Women who were hired as police
officers were appointed duties that did not require them to work street patrol. New York City
employed its first police matron in 1845 and in 1888 together with Massachusetts voted for a
statute that required communities with a population of over 20,000 to hire police matrons to
care for female prisoners (Shusta, Levine, Wong, Olson, and Harris, 2010, p. 51; Felperin,
2004). This created a path for more women officers to be hired. In 1905, the Portland, Oregon
Police Department appointed its first woman [Lola Baldwin] sworn as a police officer but not
allowed to patrol. The International Association of Chiefs of Police passed a resolution in 1922
supporting the use of police women [but did not work as patrol or detectives]. The Indianapolis
Police Department assigned the first two female officers on patrol in 1968 and in 1985, Portland,
Oregon appointed the first woman [Penny Harrington] Chief of Police. Laws such as Title VII of
the Civil Rights Act contributed to the hiring of women in the law enforcement field (Shusta et al.,
2010, p. 51; Felperin, 2004). Although women were admitted early with restricted jobs, minorities
such as blacks and Latinos had a lengthy way to fight for their representation within law

Analysis Of To Kill A Mockingbird, By Harper Lee
Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic theory of personality argues that human behaviour is the result of
the interactions among three component parts of the mind: the id, ego, and superego . Harper Lee
crafts Jem proficiently enough to allow analysts to apply three components to explain Jem s
personal development and maturity growth. The id relates to Jem s initial self, super egorelates to
his learning curve during Tom Robinson s trial and the ego is how he comes to a substantial
understanding of the world around him.
Initially, Jem s id affects his behaviour in multiple ways. The id is the instinctual drive of someone
s personality and is not affected by the external world. It aims to seek instant gratification without
having to face any harm. The town of Maycomb is full of superstitions surrounding the African
Americans and Boo Radley. Jem, Dill, and Scout believe that Boo dined on raw squirrels and any
cats he could catch, that s why his hands were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ego is the mediator between the id and real world, as it finds realistic ways to satisfy the id
demands and has a rational frame of mind when it comes to problem solving. Reason and
consideration of social norms are how the ego works even if it means postponing satisfaction in
order to avoid negative consequences from society. Jem acquires a deeper understanding of
society with assistance from his family who give him room to develop his coping skills,
especially after the trial. Consequently he has learnt to accept that there is cruelty, racism, and
prejudice in the world. However, he can try his best to be fair and finds realistic ways to satisfy the
id s demand for justice. For example, when Scout goes to kill a roly poly, Jem stops her saying
she shouldn t because they don t bother you (pg. 263) . Jem has learned to respect that no one
deserves to be treated cruelly even if they re different from

The Visual Characteristics Of Tea And Porcelain In China
The visual sources provided throughout 14.1 14.4 assist in showing what items were used, and
why they were there at the time; while the descriptions give us evidence of how the products
were collected. In 14.1, there s many foreign items to take note of in the visual source provided
that is Tea and Porcelain in China. For example, the Porcelain tea cups, teapot, and saucer are all
in the image to show what materials were used at the time. Though the tea cups were
manufactured in China, they were specifically made for the target audience of European buyers.
There is evidence of this shown in the Chinese patterns on the cups and teapots. The Chinese
floral designs, clothing styles, creativity, and more had a major impact on the desires of the elite
upper class in Europe as they had become widely fascinated with all things Chinese. While the
Chinese had realized this liking of their designs by the European market, they used this to target
their buyers by making the teacups with cultured designs such as the Chinese gardens but also
tied in the European style houses to cater to the tastes of the European consumers. The woman
shown in the visual source looks as if she is from the upper class. Judging by her silk dress and
that she is using the Porcelain cups makes it most likely that this is the case. If the dress was of
unimportance, then there could be the possibility that she is involved in the trade but I would
argue that she is in fact in the elite upper class. This take

I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen
I Stand Here Ironing, which is a popular short story by Tillie Olsen describing the hard lives of
people during The Great Depression in the 1930s, focuses on the numerous difficulties of a
mother who had to take care of a child by herself. The short story begins with a view of an
apartment room where a woman is ironing. Her work is interrupted by a call asking for her help
for understanding Emily, her first daughter. By recalling and gathering all memories between her
and Emily, the narrator realizes that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and
regretful about her daughter. In the end, turning back to the present, she believes that Emily will
be fine with her true value inside despite of the rocky childhood. In the setting, the narrator is
doing her housework, ironing, as an ordinary activity at every late night weekend after taking her
children to bed. Actually, the ironing, which is such a boring work for everyone, makes her mind
easily follow the mental process of flashback about Emily s childhood, especially after she receives
a call from Emily s counselor.
By the time of the post Great Depression, most of working class families still lived in the small,
old and hovel apartments in urban or suburban areas. Each apartment only had two or three rooms
where all family members had to share their spaces to live. Under the glimmering, dim yellow light
of a lamp, the room in the setting appears as little, simple living room which is combined with the

What to do about Funding in Public Schools
The public school system in America has long has been an issue of discussion amongst people
everywhere. The school system is something we deal with in every state and city in America. It is
one system in our country that is in need of great evaluation when it comes to the issue of funding.
There are funding gaps that are so large from school to school when it comes to the issue of
funding that we have some schools that are barley in suitable living conditions, have the oldest
materials and are very understaffed to schools that have the best of everything in every aspect to
include the teachers. Is this the type of unbalanced system you want your kids in? People often

Therefore, theoretically at least only the schools that could provide the students with all these above
mentioned things would be the schools that would get the students. Whether they are public or
private it would be the parent s decision
The idea behind the voucher system developed by Milton Friedman is that for each student the
parents would be allotted a certain sum of money for their schooling for the year. Now the parent
could send their child to any school of their choice, public or private under this system the parents
would have better control over the education of their young ones. This means that the parents
could put all the money they are allotted towards the school and if it costs more than that amount
then they have to pay the difference out of their pocket. This would encourage competition among
all schools. It would raise the par on education and we would not have so many of the major
funding problems that so many public schools are facing now. Because of this the schools would
have the money to give the students a better education because many of them would have all the
money they would need to fund themselves. Teachers would try harder; the schools could be
updated with the latest technology and latest materials. In essence it would be like survival of the
fittest for the schools,

Examples Of Blindness In King Lear
Lack of insight to one s surroundings is an indicator of failure in one s proper metacognition. This
blindness is a tragic flaw that if one is not quick to realize, can have deadly and long term effects
as developed through William Shakespeare s King Lear. According to Shakespeare, blindness is not
simply a physical issue, but rather a challenge of the mind. In the play, the dominant theme of
figurative and literal blindnesscarries both the main plots and counterplots throughout the play. In
William Shakespeares King Lear, the ineluctable subject of blindness develops through King Lear,
his daughters, and Gloucester as they suffer the repercussions of their lack of perception in their
lives. Firstly, King Lear s pride leads him to appreciate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Gloucester s lack of clear vision deceives him into believing that Edmund is the
good son while Edgar, despite the fact that he is the good one, is plotting his death to gain his
inheritance. After Edmund informs Gloucester of his attempt to [dissuade Edgar] from his
intent and shows his false wounds, Gloucester claims that of [his] land, / Loyal and natural
[Edmund], / [he will] work the means / [to] make [Edmund] capable (II, i. 84 86). When Edmund
hereafter betrays his father for his wealth and authority, Gloucester is physically blinded as a
punishment and when told the truth of Edmund s betrayal, he cries [t]hen Edgar was abused.
/ King gods, forgive [him] that, and prosper him! (III, vii, 91 92) Gloucester s deeper insight into
the true characters of his sons after he is blind reflects irony: literal blindness ironically yields
insight. Only when Gloucester is blind can he see things for what they are, and his mistake of
his refusal to hear out Edgar is what brings about his punishment. Only after, he finally regains
his sight and discovers that Edger had put all of his effort to save his father s life while playing
poor Tom and that Edgar loves him all regardless of past events. Although Gloucester appears
weak and gullible, his realization helps him to stay capable of great bravery and seeking justice.

  • 4. Women s Impact On The United States Since their inception in the 19th century, women s colleges in the United States have faced significant challenges and undergone a multitude of transformations in their pursuit to educate women (Kratzok, 2010; Thelin, 2004; Turpin, 2010). In recent years, economic hardship has forced many women s colleges to reexamine their identity and initial purpose, as rising costs and dwindling enrollments have led a majority to co educate or close their doors entirely (Hursh Wall, 2011; Kratzok, 2010). The fierce competition for students in today s higher educationclimate has hit women s institutions particularly hard, as once there were over three hundred women s colleges and only about seventy presently remain (Women s College Coalition, 2001). Though women make up the majority of undergraduate students (Turpin, 2010), the future of these small, private women s colleges seems uncertain (Langdon Giovengo, 2003). However, by examining their contentious historical beginnings to their evolution in the 21st century, one can determine the pivotal role women s colleges still play in the United States higher education system. The origins of higher education in the United States can be traced all the way back to the colonial era, with the founding of Harvard University in 1636 (Delbanco, 2012; Thelin, 2004). However, it would take another two centuries for women to receive similar opportunities of advanced education. Excluded from attending colleges by statute (Thelin, 2004), women in ... Besides that, William Gibson had mentioned about the cyborg, they are part humanand part machine, but what does it mean to be a cyborg and what do cyborg say about the relationships between human beings and technology? Johnny says, I had hundred of megabytes stashed in my head on an idiot/savant basis, information I had no conscious access to. As you can see that, Johnny was impacted by the implanting technology into his head, he became intelligent most likely like a robot, which he could store a large amount of data in his brain and he becomes more agile. In addition, Jones the dolphin in the story is the only one character known as the cyborgs . It is unrealistic to believe that an animal could become cyborgs, Jones as the programming system which he could read and store specific code. Jones took a significant play at the end of the story; he helped Johnny to get back into his human form by taking the implant genre out of his brain. Plus, there are also negative impacts of implant system into your body are: Johnny had lost his memories when he was the child because of the implanting system. • 6. `` Night `` By Elie Wiesel Robert Shapiro, an American civil litigator once said, To me, the Holocaust stands alone as the most horrible human event in modern civilization, The Holocaust, a genocide led by Adolf Hitler, killed six million jews, and dramatically affected the whole world. The memoir Night, written by Elie Wiesel describes the brutality Wiesel experienced during the Holocaust, and how life changing it was. Although some may believe the memoir written by Elie Wieselwas titled Night because he was forced to leave his home during the night, Wiesel illustrates Jewslosing hope, faith, and happiness through the symbol of Night, to prove that the memoir was titled Night to symbolize the darkness the holocaust created. The first darkness that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wiesel then gave up, he figured there was no longer a chance that he could be saved which again led to darkness. Is this example, the darkness the night brings symbolises loss of hope, and becoming closer to death. Once Wiesel gave up trying, and claimed it was over, the light in his life got slightly dimmer, and he became closer to death. The next reason Night was the title of the memoir written by Wiesel was because the darkness in night symbolized death. Thousands of Jews were sentenced to death each day, leaving everybody a little more hurt and broken. The first example of death, that helps portray the title of Night, is in the quote, Was there a single place here where you were not in danger of death? (Wiesel 37). In this quote, Wiesel shows how dangerous and recurrent death was and bases the title off of these dangerous, mass killings. Darkness commonly symbolizes death, and the pain and suffering one feels being exposed to it. The symbol also helps show that the killings were not normal, they were darker like the night, more evil and inhumane than anything they had previously experienced. The title Night, symbolizes the darkness during this painful event, and the darkness universally symbolizes evil. So by using the title Night, Wiesel is able to indirectly explain how inhumane these mass killings really are. Another quote that shows the title is used to symbolize ... • 7. Yes and No in Korean Essay Yes and No After coming to America, I have suffered from the improper usage of yes and no. I sometimes confuse an affirmative response with a negative one because the usage of yes and no in Korean is different from English. For example, if I am asked, Haven t you had dinner yet? and I have not had dinner yet, then in Korean I usually say, Yes, I haven t. But in English, I have to say, No, I haven t. This different usage of yes and no in Korean and in English sometimes causes misunderstandings or even estrangements between my American friends and me. One sultry weekend night, he brought his son and daughter into the dorm. Playing with each other, his son and daughter made some noise while they were running up and down. I did not mind the noise since I was just watching T.V. The next morning, I came across Mark and his offspring in the doorway of the dorm. After we both said, Hello, he introduced his children to me. Nice to meet you. How old are you? I asked his son. He is three years old, Mark replied on behalf of his son and asked me smiling, Didn t they make noise last night? Didn t it bother you? At the time, nations were experiencing the results of the Industrial Revolution. England was the first nation in the world to experience the effects of the Industrial Revolution (Henry 527). Instead of products being made by hand, they were being made now by machines. Homes of people were being used for industries. The people most affected were those of the lower class. Imagination was seen as one of the key features to describe one s perspective of the world. Henry explains that the human imagination is some kind of desire a motive that drives the mind to discover things that it cannot learn by rational or logical thinking (532). Logical thinking could not explain the importance in change, so something else had to be used. Imagination drives a person s mind into deeper thought than does reason. He explains how life on earth dies off. All earth was but one thought and that was death (Byron 42). Writing about an apocalyptic world, brings out the curiosity of people; therefore, people use imagination to put themselves in this situation to be able to understand. William quotes, I see everything I paint in this world, but everybody does not see alike (532). Everyone has a different perspective. It is hard to be able to explain the writer s writing without imagination and creativity. Readers don t use reason to understand the poet s intention. Using reason, just describes only one point of view. Henry states, Romanticism turned away from the eighteenth century emphasis on reason and artifice. Instead, the Romantics embraced imagination and naturalness (529). During the period, they believed that imagination, rather than mere reason, was the best response to the forces of change (Henry 529). According to Henry, Wordsworth ... I was expecting the students to be nervous and show signs of intimidation at the sight of the needle. Before going to the school, I helped the nurse gather the equipment we were going to use, which included, the influenzaimmunizations, Band Aids, alcohol prep wipes, and gloves. We also brought colorful pencils and stickers for the students after receiving their flu shot. This health department does a good job with keeping patients up to date on their immunizations. A patient came in wanting a flu shot, and was 69 years old. The nurse questioned the patient about if she had ever received the pneumococcal immunization. We had another young couple come in for flu shots, so I got a lot of practice with giving intramuscular shots today. Generally, I think Lanier County health department does contribute to the overall health of the community. They are efficient when a patient comes in to do a thorough assessment, not just physical, but asking about the patients home life and family. The number of people that have come to the health department to receive an influenza shot has represented a large portion of Lanier County residents. This can potentially reduce the spread of influenza through out the community. CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION This thesis explores an analytical and conceptual framework on the possibility of employee ownership influence on organizational loyalty as it applies to the modus operandi of John Lewis Partnership. There are divergent views about the influence of employee ownership on organizational loyalty. Research suggests that ownership may influence organizational loyalty (e.g. Taylor, 2011) but it is not completely clear how, thereby prompting various researches and scientific experimentation on the subject matter. Scholars (e.g. Lampel et al, 2010) reviewing the performance differences between companies that practice employee ownership framework and other forms, like State owned Enterprises (SOE) have provisioned mixed results. On the average, these investigation by various scholars and academia opined that employee ownership and privatization usually results in improved loyalty and financial performance (e.g., Andrew and Dowling (1998); Martin and Parker (1997), Lioukas and Kouremenos (1989)). The process of employee ownership, involving all business activities and functions associated with exploitation and opportunities identification (Bygrave and Hofer, 1991; Shane and Venkataraman, 2000), have spawned considerable interests from practitioners and academics. Some countries instead rely on, or have supplemented their thin capitalisation legislation with, other general tax law mechanisms providing for an increased taxation of the returns on debt(II). This qualitative phenomenological study with the theoretical underpinnings of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (Shinebourne, 2011) was conducted using a small sample of participants (Florida State Troopers) who work in Orange County. There are three reasons why the public option should to be reintroduced into the health care system: to help control premium costs, increase marketplace competition in rural areas and increase the quality and diversity of offered plans. Indeed, what is so important about the national option is that it will naturally function as a benchmark , or price and care baseline, within the current insurance exchange system mandated by the ACA (citation needed). • 32. Electronic Massaging Products And Its Effects On The Market Thanks to technology, it is no longer necessary to spend hundreds of dollars a month on pricey visits to your local spa for a relaxing massage. Though hands and fingers are sublime for attacking knotted muscles and sensitive pressure points, today s inventions have evolved in such a way that one can target the kind of massageexperience he/she wants. It may seem like a simple task to select any one of the dozens of products on the market these days. But the variations are seemingly endless. I happen to have tried out several different electronic massaging products. So here s a little guide to selecting the best one for your home or office. Good Vibes It s important to understand that there are different kinds of massaging techniques available on the market. The earliest massaging devices provided vibration only. Health studies have shown that vibration helps to increase blood circulation, anxiety control, and even some relief of pain. The good news about these types of products is that they typically cost much less than the newer shiatsumodels. I purchased one of HoMedics earliest versions, a full length massaging mat. The mat comes with a hand held remote which features massage programs such as pulsating or complete vibration. The control also allows the user to select which general areas to focus on. What I liked about the mat, was that the complete vibration is extremely relaxing. However, on these older mats, the overall pressure and vibration intensity is rather ... • 33. Sexual Love And The Freedom And Happiness Shared By Two... The Song portrays the virtue of sexual love and the freedom and happiness shared by two lovers. The Song speaks of a sexual love between man and woman who stands equally before each other in the privacy of their intimacy with no consciousness of the hierarchies of their public world. Equal standing in its most encompassing meaning neither one is superior nor inferior, but equally ready to initiate and invite, equally desiring and eager to please and be pleased, both transparent about fantasies and pleasures received, equally vocal to endear and arouse, same senseof wholeness and brokenness, of shamelessness and abandon. Passion is matched with passion; longings are returned with the same intensity no holding back and no concern for anything except to ravish each other, both take pleasure, and absorbed in each other in their own Eden. Thus, sex is honorable, pleasurable, and paradisal. The Song is devoid of any patriarchal mindset; the woman exhibits a consciousness of being highly valued. If she s in a patriarchal society, then she has learned to be counter cultural, just as the Hebrew Bible is counter cultural with ANE and other ancient literature. She neither sees herself oppressed nor in a subordinate position. She values her sensuality and sexuality and sees herself as good as anyone else, even if her patriarchal world refuses to offer equal opportunity for her kind. Or perhaps she truly lives in a heterarchical culture? She does not strive to be equal with men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Aboriginals did not gain the right to federal voting at least 150 years after the British colonized in Australia. All citizens of a nation deserve equal rights. Several key events and people influenced the journey and results of Aboriginal voting rights. Many major contributions towards the indigenous voting rights can be described as international criticism, Aboriginal Protests and Political conflicts. Male Aboriginal Australians were recognised as male people, and therefore could vote in state elections, It was expected to stay this way. However, the white Australiapolicy in 1901 caused many Aboriginal Men to lose their state voting rights and banned them from enrolling in federal elections, According to (hgj) The electoral officials had the power to decide who was an Aboriginal Native or not. After several years of discrimination, in 1934 Indigenous Australians took a stand in a day of mourning for indigenous rights. Another powerful argument for Aboriginal Australians was their world war efforts from 1914 to 1918. Many white Australians that fought with the Indigenous Australians believed that if they are good enough to fight and die for their country then they are good enough to vote in elections As a result of this effort, 1945 marked the year that all male Aboriginal war participants were granted Federal election voting rights. This enraged Saladin and triggered the invasion of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Although the Crusader army was similar in size to Saladin s army, Saladin had various advantages because he knew the climate and terrain, used better tactics, and was militarily organized. On the other hand, The Crusades were divided and the King was easily persuaded by bad counsel. Do these two people do the right thing by Romeo and Juliet? The nurse and Friar are sophisticated characters that act as parental figures within the prolix and truculent play. The timeless classic Romeo and Juliet (RJ) by William Shakespeare revolves around the notion of determinism, death, love and deception. Despite Romeo and Juliet having warring parents who pay little regard to them, the Nurse and Friar act as parental figures towards them who guide through vexed situations in their best interest, however, this only prolongs their declivity, with the Friar acting as a motif of death and the Nurse acting as a beacon of hope. By... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nurse concedes this proposal because of her motherly affection towards Juliet, as it is in her best interest and desires to witness Juliet wed with a genuine love rather than an arranged agreement. Although this can be seen as an congenial gesture, it completely rescinds the social discourses of the time, consequently justifying that the Nurse is not a great advisor unlike the Friar. The first exposure to the Friar shows his careful, wise manner and his obvious care for Romeo s best interests rather than his own satisfactions. This characterization of Friar Laurence is greatly flawed due to his impetuous thinking when put under the pressure of having two teens approach him with the intention of killing themselves, as he attempts to guide Romeo and Juliet during their struggles. Shakespeare laminates the Friar with fault as he is arguably the incentive, along with the nurse for Romeo and Juliet s cessation, hence becoming the rationale of their declivity. Shakespeare adopts symbolism upon the Friar and the Nurse. The contrasting of darkness and light is seen all throughout the play, usually in reference to Juliet as light, although regarding the thesis, the Nurse and Friar are metaphorical concepts of fate and the ... By recalling and gathering all memories between her and Emily, the narrator realizes that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and regretful about her daughter. In the end, turning back to the present, she believes that Emily will be fine with her true value inside despite of the rocky childhood. In the setting, the narrator is doing her housework, ironing, as an ordinary activity at every late night weekend after taking her children to bed. Actually, the ironing, which is such a boring work for everyone, makes her mind easily follow the mental process of flashback about Emily s childhood, especially after she receives a call from Emily s counselor. By the time of the post Great Depression, most of working class families still lived in the small, old and hovel apartments in urban or suburban areas. Each apartment only had two or three rooms where all family members had to share their spaces to live. The school system is something we deal with in every state and city in America. It is one system in our country that is in need of great evaluation when it comes to the issue of funding. There are funding gaps that are so large from school to school when it comes to the issue of funding that we have some schools that are barley in suitable living conditions, have the oldest materials and are very understaffed to schools that have the best of everything in every aspect to include the teachers. Therefore, theoretically at least only the schools that could provide the students with all these above mentioned things would be the schools that would get the students. Whether they are public or private it would be the parent s decision The idea behind the voucher system developed by Milton Friedman is that for each student the parents would be allotted a certain sum of money for their schooling for the year. Now the parent could send their child to any school of their choice, public or private under this system the parents would have better control over the education of their young ones. This means that the parents could put all the money they are allotted towards the school and if it costs more than that amount then they have to pay the difference out of their pocket. This would encourage competition among all schools. It would raise the par on education and we would not have so many of the major funding problems that so many public schools are facing now. Because of this the schools would have the money to give the students a better education because many of them would have all the money they would need to fund themselves. Teachers would try harder; the schools could be updated with the latest technology and latest materials. In essence it would be like survival of the fittest for the schools, ... • 53. Examples Of Blindness In King Lear Lack of insight to one s surroundings is an indicator of failure in one s proper metacognition. This blindness is a tragic flaw that if one is not quick to realize, can have deadly and long term effects as developed through William Shakespeare s King Lear. According to Shakespeare, blindness is not simply a physical issue, but rather a challenge of the mind. In the play, the dominant theme of figurative and literal blindnesscarries both the main plots and counterplots throughout the play. In William Shakespeares King Lear, the ineluctable subject of blindness develops through King Lear, his daughters, and Gloucester as they suffer the repercussions of their lack of perception in their lives. Firstly, King Lear s pride leads him to appreciate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, Gloucester s lack of clear vision deceives him into believing that Edmund is the good son while Edgar, despite the fact that he is the good one, is plotting his death to gain his inheritance. After Edmund informs Gloucester of his attempt to [dissuade Edgar] from his intent and shows his false wounds, Gloucester claims that of [his] land, / Loyal and natural [Edmund], / [he will] work the means / [to] make [Edmund] capable (II, i. 84 86). When Edmund hereafter betrays his father for his wealth and authority, Gloucester is physically blinded as a punishment and when told the truth of Edmund s betrayal, he cries [t]hen Edgar was abused. / King gods, forgive [him] that, and prosper him! (III, vii, 91 92) Gloucester s deeper insight into the true characters of his sons after he is blind reflects irony: literal blindness ironically yields insight. Only when Gloucester is blind can he see things for what they are, and his mistake of his refusal to hear out Edgar is what brings about his punishment. Only after, he finally regains his sight and discovers that Edger had put all of his effort to save his father s life while playing poor Tom and that Edgar loves him all regardless of past events. Although Gloucester appears weak and gullible, his realization helps him to stay capable of great bravery and seeking justice. Gloucester s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
