Characteristics Of Culture Of Pakistan
Culture is a necessity for any Soldier or Department of the Army (DA) Civilian to be aware of
while operating in a foreign environment. Soldiers or DA Civilians must possess an understanding
of the parameters of a culture as defined in FM 3 24, Insurgencies and Countering Insurgencies.
Furthermore, FM 3 24 provides us with five characteristics that make up the culture of a region: the
physical environment, economy, social structure, political structure, and belief system of the
people. Today s Army faces many demanding operating environments, each packed with its own
challenge of understanding the unique people and culture present in the area. Pakistanis one of these

The World Factbook divides the geography of Pakistan into three areas: the northern highlands, the
Indus River plain in the center and east, and the Balochisten Plateau in the south and west. Pakistan
s climate is generally consistent with hot and arid desert conditions, the northwest experiences
temperate conditions, while arctic extremes are common in the Himalayan Mountains found in the
northern highlands. The country of Pakistan has multiple natural resources available within its
borders; arable land is abundant, large natural gas reserves are present, while limited quantities of
petroleum, coal, iron ore, copper, salt and limestone as also present (The World Factbook, 2017).
Pakistan s economy has undergone multiple changes since the country earned its independence
from India in 1947. Initially, Pakistan based its economy on private enterprises, but during the
1970s, nationalization of many industries took place, including banking, manufacturing and
transportation. The decade that followed, saw the implication of Sharia Law, and with it the rise
of an Islamic economy. During the 1990s, Pakistan once again saw many industries become
privatized and developed the mixed economy that we see in place today (Burki Ziring, 2016). The

Compare And Contrast The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Bible
Gilgamesh was said to be written around 3300 to 2990 B.C., while the Bible was said to be
written around the 6th century B.C. The Bible has around 40 contributors, but only one real
author, which is God. According to the authors of Who Were the Authors , Humanly speaking, the
Bible was written by approximately 40 men of diverse backgrounds over the course of 1500 years.
Godguided these men to write this piece of literature for future Christians. The Old Testament
was originally written in Hebrew while the New Testament was originally written in Greek. No
specific person has ever been named to be the author of Gilgamesh, which was written in
cuneiform, as it is one of the oldest pieces of literature in the world. Pictured in Figure 1, is one of
the original tablets. The Bible and the Epic of Gilgameshcan be compared in many ways; however,
the most common way is by the similarities and differences in the floods that occur. This
[Gilgamesh] story contains the closest parallels to the biblical account... writes Lloyd Bailey.
Both Gilgamesh and the Bible have two big floods that change humanity in more ways than one.
To really understand and compare the floods in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bible, both pieces
of literature need to be thoroughly examined in every way that their natural disasters are similar
and different: the creators and their reasons for making the floods, the hero of the flood, the period
of grace, the two arks and their passengers, and the bird scene.

Should Napoleon Be Considered A Hero Essay
Should Napoleon Bonaparte Be Considered A Hero or tarrant?
A hero is defined as a man who starts from the bottom and climbs the top to achieve greatness
based on his talent. Should Napoleon be considered as a hero? Mostly people would argue that
Napoleon is a hero as his brave nature made France one of the superior countries in the world. I
believe Napoleon was a hero, as his many accomplishments improved the French society and
ultimately enlightened the world. Not only he did better for France through his policy but he also
expanded the boundaries of France with many battles through his strategically planned military. He
gave citizens of France the pride they needed.
Being a military genius, Napoleon won many battles to expand his French territory. His strategic
military plans throughout many wars made him a hero all over the Europe. Although his army was
less than half by Austrians Napoleon s brilliant strategies resulted in a defeat of his enemy armies in
the Battle of Austerlitz. In many other battles that Napoleon won he always used his military ...

This code gave French citizen freedom from arrest without due process, and equality of taxation

established an award, which he would, gave it to the citizens for their loyalty and service. This
was called the Legion of Honor. This award was such a prestigious award that people would work
harder to achieve it. His public works advanced the development of the French economy, and kept

Controversia Conversion Therapy Research Paper
Conversion therapy goes by many names, such as reparative therapy, Sexual Orientation Change
Efforts (SOCE), and ex gay therapy, but all are geared towards the same end result: to eradicate
homosexuality as a whole, even if it may be completely natural to the individual. Despite the
common belief, homosexuality is not an illness. In fact, it was declassified as a mental illness
from the ICD 10 in 1973. However, there are several organizations dedicated to the very purpose
of treating it as one. While it may seem like an antiquated topic, the issue is still being debated and
even encouraged to this day, despite its lacking ethical standing.
Conversion therapy s core beliefs are deeply rooted in outdated, obsolete, and unfounded ideals. In
the past, the institutionalization of the LGBT+ people has been underrepresented, despite how ...

The stigma that those in the community are viewed as child molesters and inherently predatory
only manages to perpetuate negative stereotypes. Instead of attempting to classify and treat
homosexuality as a mental disorder, what should be focused on is the effect such a stigmatization
could have on the patient. In fact, LGBT+ youth are at a much higher risk of suicide, depression,
and anxiety. According to a study entitled: Sex of Sexual Contacts, and Health Risk Behaviors
Among Students in Grades 9 12: Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance, 80% more of those who
experience same sex attraction and 100% more of bisexual people have attempted suicide when

Street Traffic, Safety, and Accidents
Roads are the backbone and essential modes of transportation, providing many different supports for
human civilization. Among the early and inexpensive technologies available for developing
comprehensive traffic, management proposals are Road capacity, traffic sign (i.e. pavement
markings, road sign, etc.), Guard rails, cross marking etc traffic calming, vehicle parking
regulations and controls, pedestrian measures, accident reduction programs, Bus priority
measures. As technology evolved, application of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) was introduced.
(Olaogbebikan J. E et al. 2013). Street lighting also improves safety for drivers, riders, and
pedestrians. They concluded that on average the presence of street lighting reduces the severity of
injuries by a factor of 3.
Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are advanced applications which, without embodying
intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and
traffic management and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more
coordinated, and smarter use of transport networks. Roadways are, unfortunately, the scene where
preventable urban fatalities take place. Pedestrians unknowingly crossing busy streets; drivers

World Wrestling History
So the history of world wrestling goes back a long time. It was the first sport to ever be created.
The first real traces of the development of wrestling date back to the times of the Sumerians,
over 5,000 years ago. There are also many historical and archaeological traces of wrestling in
Ancient Egypt. Drawings were discovered in Ancient Egypt in the tombs of Beni Hassan
representing 400 couples of wrestlers. These drawings witness the existence of corporations of
wrestlers in Ancient Egypt, wrestling rules, and refereeing codes (United World Wrestling). For the
Greeks, wrestling was a science and a divine art , and it represented the most important training for

only practiced by American Wrestlers. It was only during the fourth olympic Games held in

three mats that were placed outside. A regular match lasted 1 hour, but finalists wrestled without a

Northern Europe countries maintained Greco Roman wrestling, where freestyle wrestling was

beautiful skin, her skin is brown and white with a pinkish brownish nose. Her paws are furry in a

Her actions are just amazing to me, she is extremely happy around people, Stella is enjoyable. She

The Doctor Who Was An Angel
For the last 20 years and counting, I ve concluded she was an angel: the doctor who found me in
my hospital room bleeding to death, in the wee hours after my double mastectomy reconstruction
surgery. She was the shadow standing beside my bed; who shook me and said, You re bleeding
internally. You have to go back to surgery
. With the little strength I had left in me, I did all the
shadow asked of me. Like in the operation room when I was too near death to be given anesthesia,
I swallowed the tube she asked me to swallow, like a champ, and without choking on it, one bit.
When it was all over, several days later, and I had regained consciousness, there was a sweet
smiling lady doctor, no longer a shadow, who stood in the midst of my three doctors. Who are
you? Where did you come from? I asked the sweet smiling face behind golden rimmed glasses.
From Chicago, she responded to me, facetiously.
No, I plead. Where did you really come from? Which she did answer, but said, Get some rest. You
ve been through a lot. We ll talk soon. (Fast Forward)
I learned a few days after my surgery that I had lost over half of the blood in my body, and that I
should have died. And had it not have been for this shadow/ this doctor, I would have. But where
did she come from? She was not my doctor. She had no right or reason to come into my hospital
room. But one day she came alone and visited me in my hospital room. And that day she told me

The Battle of Khe Sanh: 77 Days In Hell
Ba boom boom boom! When I asked him about the war he said he couldn t remember anything
besides the cantankerous eruption of the machine guns. After fleeing the war in Vietnam and
immigrating to America at the age of 21, my grandpa would then go on to serve four years as an

I remember when the letter came to my door saying how I would be drafted. My grandpa stated.
All around me, my family was crying and begging me not to go,but I knew what I had to do, I
wanted to take vengeance against the Vietcong who hurt my family,my friends, and pillaged my
city! For what is a man without his honor? He exclaimed. My first orders were to be deployed into

The Function of Dual Roles in Tony Kushner’s Angels in...
In Tony Kushner s Angels in America, the interconnection of people and events, that might
ordinarily be viewed as disconnected or unrelated, is implicitly presented in the characters section.
Dual roles are implemented by a playwright that has one actor portraying the roles of two or more
characters, with or without thematic intentions. The use of dual roles in several scenes of this play
can be viewed as a demonstration of Kushner s effort in maintaining the interconnectedness between
characters, communities (i.e. queer, heterosexual, AIDS and political communities) and events to
which they are relative. This essay will argue that Kushner s use of dual role s effectively
interconnects characters, events and their communities that may... Show more content on

Furthermore, Antarctica s expression and connection to Roy s character and communities is
supported within the dialogue. In response to hearing the description of destruction and loss of
life on the radio, Antarctica responds by saying, Let them. Uncountable multitudes. Horrible. It
is by their own hands. I I I will rejoice to see it (Kushner 261). Explicitly Antarctica s responses
implicitly parallels Roy s callous nature, perhaps as a specific reference to Roy s outlook on the
AIDS community in which he is a part of but denies. This response is significant because it
preserves the audiences prior knowledge of Roy and what he stands even contextually as
Antarctica. As a result, the use of dual role to interrelate Roy s denial and lack of morality is able
to interconnect and expose Roy s stance in relation to AIDS even as the unrelated character of
Antarctica. The dual role of The Angel of Oceania and Belize is another example of Kushner s
ability to sustain interconnectedness between characters and events. Principally, Oceania seems to
be a caring and warm character much like Belize, but Belize is also comprised of many interesting
communities such as being homosexual and being a black, male nurse. This collection of
communities figuratively represents the separate islands that compose Oceania suggesting an
implicit correlation in character choice.

Durian fruit. When people ask me how I feel about my Vietnamese culture, the first thing that

I dreamed of living in a big house like his, with nice new furniture. I wanted my parents to be just

Never once did Richie come home to an empty house. He always joyfully greeted his mother after

like Richie Cunningham, I concluded, was to be American.
Sometimes, after watching Happy Days, I would pull a chair into the cramped little bathroom in

the cracked reflection, I saw a small face with no blue eyes, no red hair, and no red freckles. I
wondered if my skin would ever fade to the nicer shade of white. I even tried to imitate Richie s

Summary Of Coach Fitz Management Theory
The essay Coach Fitz Management Theory was written by Michael Lewis and the stories
mentioned were based on past and present comparisons. Most of the ideologies strictly informed
that the process is essential, and while Fitz talks about winning, it is the desire and not the victory
that is important. There are many examples that refer back to the different statements about
winning versus the process. Valuing the process towards a particular goal and perfecting that
process will provide you with the success desired. On the other hand, the ability to provide the
process, which includes self motivation and hard work necessary. The different writing techniques
used to give off different perspectives for the reader to understand. The essaymainly intended the
reader to understand the level of entitlement that parents have with a team and the goals/process
that must be met in order to win.
The various approaches to coaching and how much authority parents had depending on how
involved they were. Transitions, such as closers or openers most of the paragraphs cause readers to
be lost in the in the wrong areas and a quick switch of the setting hurt the initial and long term
meaning of the essay.
A firm belief Coach Fitz has throughout the essay is to win. You know what I think about second

(Lewis). This ultimately shows that winning and getting in the first place is a big part

Anti Semitism By Philip Roth Essay
Anti Semitism Jewish Writers
The experience of the Jewish family in the United States over the past century has been one of
acculturation and accommodation to the norms and the values of America society. At the same
time, Anti Semitism in America reached its peak during the interwar period between 1940s and
1960s. At that time, the Jewish Anti Semitism appeared as a phenomenon of the Depression and
the 1940s. Almost all of the Jewish American writers simply presented realistic portrayals of their
fellow immigrants or their parents generation. Later, some other Americans, partial to Anti
Semitism, found confirmation of negative stereotypes in the new Jewish American Literature.
Indeed, some parent hating or self hating Jewish American writers of the second or the third
generation, living now in the bounty of American affluence, consciously reinforced negative
stereotypes with satire and a selective realism. Philip Roth, whose portrayal of the tensions
between these figures borders on self hatred and an almost Anti Semitic view of the Jewish family
in America, is a great example of these phenomenon.
In his book, Portnoy s Complaint, Roth touched on the assimilation experiences of American Jews,
their relationship to Israeli Jews, and his experience as inherent in being the son of a Jewish
family. As a second generation Jewish writer, he chose to show the stereotypes and discrimination
that he faced through Alex Portnoy. Portnoy was raised by Jewish parents who were very

During the 19th century, after a long period of isolation, both China and Japan underwent social
and political changes to open up to foreign trade and interaction with European forces. Both
countries eventually signed treaties with Western provinces such as the United States and Great
Britain in order to establish a trade relationship to induce and increase commercial trade networks.
Even though culture and civilization in Chinaand Japan were fairly similar, both countries had
distinct reactions to Western influences in their societies which impacted the way that the two
empires developed socially, culturally, politically and intellectually over time.
Whereas Japan accepted Western ideals and even went so far as to emulate them by implementing
them into their society, China succumbed to European power because of its reluctance to follow
Western influences. Since Chinese officials and rulers in the empire... Show more content on

Was Bill Clinton Impeachment Justified
For this assignment I chose Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was impeached on two charges: lying under
oath and obstruction of justice. Mr. Clinton lied under oath about his affair with Monica Lewinsky,
but that was not the grounds for impeachment. So, was Bill Clinton s impeachment justified? No.
There cannot have been an obstruction of justice if the per suite of truth in this case was not itself a
just pursuit. You were lied to, yes by the President, who had an understandable and very personal
reason to lie. Even if that was enough to condemn the dude in guilt, the great and terrible thing
about justice in America is that it is not administered by robots; justice without mercy is cruelty.
Without considering the context of Clinton s lie, without

San Joaquin River Restoration Project
San Joaquin River Restoration Project:
Irrigating the Valley
The San Joaquin River is the backbone of the San Joaquin Valley. The valley is not only the
nation s most agricultural area but it is also one of the entire worlds. Millions depend on the
crops that come form this luscious valley. The river has gone through many drastic changes over
its illustrious lifetime. Once it was a magnificent 350 miles long it is now one of the nation s ten
most endangered rivers. The river once flowed with enough water to support steam ships and a
salmon migration it now goes completely dry in some areas. The river does not have enough water
to support itself any more and must take in water from various other places, such as the Pacific
Ocean which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two of the projected plans include keeping things the way they are and allowing more of the water
in Friant Dam to flow into the river to bring back the former environment that was once there as
well as improve the conditions for west side farmers. The two plans contrast drastically with each
other but both have positive and negative consequences.
If the east side farmers have it there way they will continue to be able to produce crops and
farming on the east side will still be a possibility. The Friant Dam has been irrigating the east side
of the valley since 1944. Over 95% of all water collected at Millerton is used to help agriculture.
It waters one million acres of farmland and because of it in the last 40 years the farming on the
east side has taken over Southern California as the states leader in citrus farming, the value of this
is 2.1 billion and it continues to grow. Although the farmers would prosper the environment would
still suffer and the salmon run of yester year would still be an impossibility. The east side farmers
argue that if there water was taken away only about a quarter of the east side could be farmed
without Millerton. Without Millerton s water the farmers would have had to continue to pump their
water from underground aquifers and if that had happened those aquifers would have gone dry 60
years ago. If the environmentalist and

The Is A Severe Disorder
Prosopagnosia is a severe disorder which the person cannot recognize recognizable people from
the face. Prosopagnosia is also known as face blindness. Face blindness is a recognized disorder; it
can vary from person to person and situation to situation. It is not an issue with vision or absent
mindedness. People with prosopagnosiahave trouble with physical recognition. Recognition and
memory are different. Memory is the thoughts, opinions and past experiences that is in our
mind. The face is the key to accessing the memory of the person. We may forget someone here
and there, but that s not a big deal. People with prosopagnosia forget often and could even forget
their family. While some people have a very selective impairment that only influences the
recognition of faces, others find have the disorder that extends to the recognition of other stimuli,
such as objects, cars, or animals. Many people also report deficits in other aspects of face
processing, such as judging age or gender, recognizing certain emotional expressions, or following
the direction of a person s eye gaze. Finally, a substantial proportion of prosopagnosics reports
navigational difficulties. (Sarah Bate 2015)
The sensation is the process by which our sensory receptors and nervous system receive and
represent stimulus energies from our environment. Perception is the process or organizing and
interpreting sensory information, enabling us to recognize meaningful objects and events.

Argument Against a Ban on Boxing Essay
Argument Against a Ban on Boxing
The entertaining sport of boxing, an athletic event consisting of numerous health conflictions, has
been receiving some heat from legal and medical advocates, yet Some of the qualities that have
open boxing to attack have, at the same time, been its salvation (Sammons 235). Boxing, which has
been in existence and evolved from other forms of fighting longer than this country has been
established, is a skill, talent, an ambition, and for most professional fighters, a love. Professional
boxing, like virtually any physical recreation, is performed so that there are health risks, yet it is
the athletes right to decide their personal levels of danger. Indeed, boxing discloses America s
disposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem has slowly evolved from a national to an international conflict. An increased death and
brain damage rate triggered this worthless action towards the removal of professional boxing. This
was just temporary.
Slight changes within league rules, such as weight class regulations and softening of boxing
gloves, soon decreased the already low health damaging rates back to legal standards. Anybody
who believes that there should be a complete elimination of the sport really needs to put things in
perspective.
In terms of numbers, I am almost one hundred percent certain that the number of deaths caused in
other sports is much higher. Consider the high intensity and extremely tragic catastrophes seen in
motor sports alone.
Not to mention air sports, mountain and rock climbing, and the handful of ball games. The
intervention of our own personal risk and danger is our own liberty. On the other hand, I certainly
agree we have to prevent people from taking risks that they are ignorant about. There are numerous
other areas where consenting adults take risks and harm each other, such as smoking or drinking
alcohol. Where are the people arguing for their criminalization? In much similarity to other illegal

How Did Frank Lloyd Wright Build The Robie House
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867 1959) is a renowned American architect, interior designer, writer, and
educator credited with the design of more than one thousand buildings. A devoted naturalist Wright
found inspiration in the western American prairie and felt man made structures should coexist with
humanity. Wright found his opportunity to display his talents after a young wealthy entrepreneur
by the name of Fredrick Robie asked if he would be interested in designing a home specifically
built for his family. To say the least Wright wasted no time creating what is perhaps his most
famous residential buildings ever. For instance, his decision to use an organic approach when
designing the Robie House meant he could incorporate his trend setting ideas into the homes

In particular, I feel the Robie House best exemplifies his transition from earlier works into his
famous Prairie Style and that his choice of exterior and interior materials used in the design of
the Robie House elegantly complement its interior features as well as exterior surroundings. For
instance, soft yet rigid tones of red brick combined with beautiful sand colored limestone not only
extenuate the homes reoccurring exterior theme of horizontal lines but also highlight the
surrounding trees and gardens. The house is also known for its terraces and traffic areas that
along with low eaves and balconies give it a much lower than normal profile found in its
predecessors. Wright is also renowned for his use of space form and pattern as seen in the design
of the homes gently sloped roof profile that from the outside allows it to be viewed along with the
beautiful its skyline. This feature also allows the buildings surrounding foliage to bloom with each

The Pros And Cons Of Cultural Appropriation
Cultural appropriation is a crime in 2017. The Kardashian family is constantly under criticism
for cultural appropriation, as KhloГ© Kardashian has been accused of appropriating Native
American headdresses, while Kylie Jenner has come under fire more than once for wearing
cornrows. Kendall Jenner s Pepsi commercial, where she quelled a protest by offering a soda to a
police officer, was lambasted as offensive and tone deaf. These are the scenarios that the word
appropriationbrings to mind: privileged young women and cultural insensitivity. In I Can t Stop
Thinking through What Other People are Thinking , David Shields describes a wholly different
cast of appropriators: artists, writers, and composers.
In his essay, Shields unleashes his frustrations regarding the country s negative attitude towards
appropriation and borrowing. He asserts that there s no such thing as originality , that all life on
earth...is built upon appropriation and reuse of the pre existing (Shields 736). Shields utilizes a
multitude of examples to illustrate and support his points. Musicians from Mozart to Bob Dylan
have utilized content or taken inspiration from other artists. Shields shows that borrowing has been
with us from the beginning , citing the New Testament and Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra as
composites of numerous sources (740). His essay demonstrates that borrowing is prevalent in
music and writing, as artists take inspiration from preceding artists and from their

Southwest A Success Story Of Organizational Change
Southwest a Success Story in Organizational Change
Why is it that when organizations announce upcoming changes to their employees they are rarely
excited about it? You do not see them jovially discussing what is going to happen next, and/or how
these changes are going to make their organization better. No, none of this is happening. Most of
them are worried and wondering how these changes will affect them, and what their roles are going
to be. This mindset makes organizational change difficult. Society in general just does not like
change, nor are they comfortable with it.
Therefore, when an organization can successfully implement change, people notice and researchers
want to study them. They do this so they can formulate a change theory and teach it to other
organizations that are experiencing the same situation(s). One company that has continually
evolved, made changes, and has been successful at it is Southwest Airlines. How have Southwest
Airlines been so successful, what was their core strategy, and what part has their differentiation
strategy played in their success?
Air Southwest was incorporated on March 15, 1967 (1966 to 1971, 2016), at a time when price
competition from interstate competitors was ferocious (Heskett Sasser, 2013, p. 3). However,

Similarities Between Louis Xiv And Peter The Great
Absolutism is a political system in which a King or Queen has absolute power over a country.
This ruler also controls the political system, taxes, laws and every aspect of society. An absolute
monarch can also believe in divine right. This is the belief that God gave power to the monarchs
to be a God on earth. An example of these types of rulers are Louis XIV, who ruled for 72 years,
Ivan the Terrible who ruled from 1530 to 1584, and Peter the Great who ruled from 1682 to 1725.
Peter the Great was the most significant absolutist ruler because of all the great things he did for
the poor people and his effort into the modernization of his country. Louis XIV became the King of

Ivan s wife died and that changed him entirely. He suspected the nobles of poisoning Anastasia

killings against the hereditary nobility (Ivan the Terrible). This means that since his wife died and
nobles were always fighting for power and Ivan has always had a hatred for them, he thought that
the nobles were the ones who planned to kill his wife and be thrown him from his throne.
Suddenly, in the winter of 1564 Ivan secretly left Moscow declaring that he wanted to abdicate.

Analysis Of The Book Youth And Ghost By Adam...
The historians who begin the 20th century with the First World War do so because of the great
change in thinking brought about during and after the fighting: people became less friendly
toward colonialism; people s roles in their societies were often not the same after the war, most
of all women, and where other methods failed to, a new kind of nationalism could perhaps help
them to rebuild their identities as they rebuilt their countries. Various sources about the time can
be used to examine it from different angles and draw different conclusions about it: Vera Brittain
s Testament of Youth, for example, is a primary source and a memoir, assembled from her own
diaries and letters sent from around the turn of the century, and has the unique flavor of being a
woman s perspective during the war. King Leopold s Ghost by Adam Hochschild is a secondary
source and a collection of stories all looking at the same subject colonialism in Africa, the Congo
in particular and it provides multiple views through different eyes. The chapter On Humanity in
Dark Times: Thoughts about Lessing from Hannah Arendt s book Men in Dark Times is also a
secondary source, as the book is a collection of her own essays and thus likely has notes of
personal reflection as Brittain s memoir would while bringing in the facts and somewhat
journalistic observation of King Leopold s Ghost. Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises, while
a work of fiction, is a novel that focuses on characters dealing with the

Effects Of The Reconstruction Era
The Reconstruction era was the period that followed the end of the Civil War whose purpose was
to reconstruct the United States. This was done to help rebuild the South and bring it back into the
Union. The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments gave African Americans some civil liberties, they
prohibited slavery, gave national citizenship for every person that was born in the United States,
and voting rights can not be denied because of their race or color. Looking at this era, I will discuss
how it affected the society of the Americans, the economy and the laws that were passed. Although
the Reconstruction Era tried to help from the end of the Civil War into the early twentieth century it
resulted a failure to establish the civil rights for the African Americans.
The Americans in the South felt humiliated and were against the decision of the government to give
certain rights given to the African Americans. For this reason, many whites joined some groups
who were against the freed slaves such as the Ku Klux Klan. The Ku Klux Klan was a political
terrorist group whose purpose was to intimidate the black Americans after the 15th amendment was
ratified and they were given the right to vote. The Klan had just appeared there in 1868, using
intimidation, arson, whippings, sexual assault, and murder to keep potential Republican voters
away from the polls in that year s election (Political Terrorism during Reconstruction, 1). This shows
the actions that this social group took to terrorize the Black Americans to avoid their participation
in the elections. In April 1865, before his assassination Abraham Lincoln declared that he had hope
that there would be no bloody work after the war, but most of it visited upon the freedman as
Northerners and Southerners black and white struggled over ... the place of African Americans in
American society (The Meaning of Reconstruction, 302). The Americans in the South were not
happy with the integration of the African Americans to their society.
After all the damage that was left over from the war, the goal of the Reconstruction Era was to
bring the economy of the South back to how it was before the war started. The 13th amendment
prohibited slavery, so after this amendment was

Hitcher, Education For Leisure, My Last Duchess, and The Lab
Hitcher By Simon Armitage, Education For Leisure By Carol Anne

the prospect of violence.
Hitcher is a poem about a man who is angry at being threatened with the sack, he picks up a hitch
hiker and kills him and then leaves him on the road side. The poetic voice seems to be psychotic
and also talks about the attack in a casual manner.

Simple and direct language is used by Armitage to demonstrate the characters casual attitude to
violence. It is also used in Ed for Leisure to help create the short staccato lines such as Today I am

Both poems by Robert Browning are dramatic monologues, The Lab is a mixture of the main
characters thoughts and her words to the apothecary. She seems very similar to the main characters
in both Ed for Leisure and Hitcher as an insane twisted side of her character is exposed...
The lady in The Laboratory is plotting to murder the mistress of her lover and seems very excited
about the prospect of death. In asking the apothecary, Wot that I bid you spare her the pain; she
shows that she wants her victim to die slowly and painfully. This demonstrates a craving for
violence like the characters in Armitage and Duffy s poems. As well as sharing the structure of a
dramatic monologue, The Lab is also arranged in stanzas like the previous two poems and contains
rhyme like Hitcher . The second poem by Robert
Browning is called My Last Duchess like the other 3 poems it is a dramatic monologue and shares
the same rhyme scheme as The Lab . The poetic voice talks about how his wife was too flirtatious
and how it was not only him that brought smiles to her face. After a while, he grew tired of not
being appreciated, gave orders and her smile stopped all together.

Scram Jet Essay
The SCRAMJET, simply abbreviated from Supersonic Combustion Ramjet, is the latest evolution
of the jet engine family. NASA made the news with each test of the X 43A scramjet craft, so I set
about to discover why this type of jet engine should garner so much scientific attention. Turbojet
The most basic jet engine is the turbojet. As soon as the air enters the front of the engine, the blades
of the compressor, compresses the air before funneling it into the combustion chamber. During the
compression, not only is the density of the air increased by compressing it in a confined chamber,
but the temperature of the air also increases as the air molecules of squeezed closer together. The
resulting air that emerges into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turboprop The turboprop (turbo propeller) engine combines the simple propeller engine with that
of the turbojet. In this case, in addition to driving the compressor, the turbine also drives a
propeller. The propeller provides thrust like a normal propeller (the wedge shape of the blades
pushes the air back), in addition to the thrust produced by the turbojet part of the engine. Ramjet
The ramjet engine is a much simpler construction than either the propeller or turbojet engine.
Unlike these the other engines that require moving parts (propeller, compressor, turbine, shaft, etc),
the ramjet consists basically of a tube that scoops the air into the combustion chamber where it is
mixed with fuel and ignited, and exhausts the hot gasses through the necked down exhaust nozzle.
Because of the high speeds of operation, instead of compressing the air, the chamber of the ramjet
actually expands and thereby slows the air to subsonic speeds for the combustion process. The force
of the incoming air forces the combustion to be kept behind the inlet. Because of this fact, the
engine cannot be operated at subsonic velocities (Velocities below Mach 1 One time the speed of
sound or roughly 740 mph at standard temperature and pressure). Hence another engine has to
accelerate the plane to the point where the ramjet can function. On the other hand, because of its
simplistic construction, the ramjet engine can

My First Day Of School
Do you remember your first day of school? I think we all had mized emotions that first day. For
some of us we were scared, not really knowing what it was going to be like. For others, it was
exciting, they wanted to start this new chapter in their lives. So how are you feeling now? For
some of you, you may be feeling happy. Others here probably feel relieved. Still, others here may
feel sad that this chapter of their life has come to a close. Well, no matter how you felt the first
day and no matter how you felt the last day, you have been through a lot these last few years.
You have made it through troubling math problems, long essays, and piles of homework. Yet,
you all made it here. You never gave up, you never wanted to take the easy way out. For some of
us, it could ve been just as easy to go get another form of a high schooldegree or even quit school
all together. You didn t do that! You were strong, you made it through it all. Still, it wasn t
always hard. We have experienced good times these last few years as well. No doubt you have
made good friends, aced hard exams, and hopefully now have a new perspective on life. Truly,
there is not much different from school life, and life in general. In life there will be times to
knock us down. We enjoy the good times but we also prepare for the bad times. How can we
take what we learned from school to help us in life? We made it to the end of school and what a
happy day this is! So how do we make it to the end of life with that same smile on our face? How
will we make it through the hard times we are sure to face? We are going to answer these questions
through this speech.
When you look at the many things technology has done, it truly is amazing, isn t it? Technology
can allow us to talk to someone all the way across the globe, maybe even video chat with them.
Technology has allowed us to watch live major events due to sattelite. Also, technology has made it
possible for us to have a small device in our pocket that can answer almost any question we may
ask, thanks to the internet. So we all agree that technology has done some pretty remarkable stuff.
Yet, let me ask you something....Has there ever been an invention known to man that stop you from
locking

Surveillance Is A Breach Of Privacy
Surveillance is often a violation of privacy, most people don t realise to what extent they are
being watched. Some people believe surveillance is a breach of their own privacy rules. The
purpose of surveillance is to influence, manage and protect societies through monitoring people s
behaviors and movements. There has been a new application developed for surveillance known as
crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing was coined by Jeff Howe as when a company takes a job which
was once performed by employees and outsources it in the form of an open call to a large
undefined group of people generally using the Internet (Brabham 18).
This new application has dramatically changed the way citizens use the Internet, from becoming a
place where you could not only store information but where people could retrieve and collaborate
some of their own content as well as other people s information in the context of a virtual space.
As a result, the development of crowdsourcing and other various new models showcased via the
Internet have contributed to a shift in the Internet termed web 2.0. Web 2.0 has been applied to
various technologies, products and approaches, the Internet is not just a linear, centralized structure
that just shows information from the professionals, instead it is a open distributed network, a
concept loosely termed as the crowd (Tewksbury 251). I will discuss two readings on this new
concept of crowdsourcing Tewksbury s reading, Crowdsourcing homeland security: The Texas

The Human Development Index And Gini Coefficient
Despite the fact that Brazil s Gross Domestic Product is one of the highest globally, Brazil still
faces developmental issues in their economy. As Stiglitz has mentioned prior to his overall
research, it is clear to see that Brazil has benefited tremendously from globalization . With a GDP
of $2.346 trillion , this shows the output of goods and services have helped the country bring in
more revenue to help stabilization. Although there is an increase in GDP, both the Human
Development Index and Gini coefficient is still at an all time low despite the growth. Brazils HDI is
ranked seventy five compared to other states (which shows that money is not being distributed in
the proper places because corruption is a still a major issue); the Gini coefficient is another
factor of corruption (52.9 ). Since the GDP is $2.346, you would expect for the income of the
individuals (the Gini coefficient) to be just as high, but in this region, wealth is not being
distributed evenly. In this paper you will see how the transformation from Mercantilism to
Capitalism has effected Brazil, including the extent of government involvement in the economy.
As an illustration, Brazil has had the chance to jump on the boat in comparison to China, and
India as a result of development as mentioned by Collier . As for the notion of the resource curse,
Brazil is not effected much by it now as compared to previous years before. For example, in the
mid 17th century when Brazil was the leading distributor

American Dream Expository Essay
In paragraph 1 the author is saying that it is not a dream of owning motor cars and high wages
(Clark paragraph 1). He says that an american dream is to have social order. He also says that each
man and women shall be able to attain the fullest stature of which they are capable. Which means
all men should be created equal. In paragraph 2 the author mention that the declaration of
independence held certain truth. It states that all men are created equal. Which also mean natural
born rights. It supports the paragraph one thesis because it is talking about how the american
dream is about being equal with all men and women and no racism, no class rank on people and
equality towards men and women. It is hinting that people should be equal

Analysis Of The Glass Menagerie
The Glass Menagerie is a play written by Tennessee Williams. It is mainly about three characters:
Tom Wingfield, the narrator; Amanda Wingfield, Tom s mother; and Laura Wingfield, Tom s
sister. The family is supported by both Tom and Amanda, working at a shoemaking warehouse
and selling magazine subscriptions respectively. However, with some things unable to work,
Amanda wants Laura to have a man to support both of them, but there are some things that are
restraining her from doing so, such as Laura s disposition. Tom brings a man named Jim O
Connor to satisfy Amanda s wants, but this, too, does not work out. The Wingfields are all stuck
in their own illusions in some way, and Jim is the only escape, coming from the real world. The
Glass Menagerie explores many things in the aspects of a dysfunctional family, using contrasts
between fantasy and reality. The entire play itself is a mixture of reality and illusions due to the
fact that it is a memory play. Tom says in his opening monologue, I give you truth in the pleasant
disguise of illusion... it is sentimental, it is not realistic (Williams 1707 08; scene 1). The play is
based on true and accurate events, but it is from Tom s memory, so some things are exaggerated
more than they should be. Some of the things Tom has experienced may be exaggerated to the point
of illusion, such as Amanda s outbursts throughout the play. The audience does not know the
scenario from an outside point of view, but this is Tom s memory, so

Lobbying Disclosure Act Case Study
With the assistance of the lobbying business, Washington s territorial economy appears to have
weathered the financial tempest of late years. Congress passed a 1995 Lobbying Disclosure Act
(LDA), which apparently obliged all lobbyists to report their exercises for the benefit of paying
customers, the answer have to be an easy decision: simply discover the lawfully ordered
divulgence structures, and number them up. While thousands of lobbyists work the halls of
Congress and government agencies and billions of dollars are spent each year on advocacy, the
groups with the most lobbyists and money don t necessarily win (Pinkham,2010). We found that
about a large portion of those included in approach support our everything of the above term

Soldiers or DA Civilians must possess an understanding of the parameters of a culture as defined in FM 3 24, Insurgencies and Countering Insurgencies. Furthermore, FM 3 24 provides us with five characteristics that make up the culture of a region: the physical environment, economy, social structure, political structure, and belief system of the people. The Bible has around 40 contributors, but only one real author, which is God. According to the authors of Who Were the Authors , Humanly speaking, the Bible was written by approximately 40 men of diverse backgrounds over the course of 1500 years. Godguided these men to write this piece of literature for future Christians. The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew while the New Testament was originally written in Greek. No specific person has ever been named to be the author of Gilgamesh, which was written in cuneiform, as it is one of the oldest pieces of literature in the world. Pictured in Figure 1, is one of the original tablets. The Bible and the Epic of Gilgameshcan be compared in many ways; however, the most common way is by the similarities and differences in the floods that occur. This [Gilgamesh] story contains the closest parallels to the biblical account... writes Lloyd Bailey. Both Gilgamesh and the Bible have two big floods that change humanity in more ways than one. To really understand and compare the floods in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bible, both pieces of literature need to be thoroughly examined in every way that their natural disasters are similar and different: the creators and their reasons for making the floods, the hero of the flood, the period of grace, the two arks and their passengers, and the bird scene. ... Controversia Conversion Therapy Research Paper Conversion therapy goes by many names, such as reparative therapy, Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (SOCE), and ex gay therapy, but all are geared towards the same end result: to eradicate homosexuality as a whole, even if it may be completely natural to the individual. Despite the common belief, homosexuality is not an illness. In fact, it was declassified as a mental illness from the ICD 10 in 1973. However, there are several organizations dedicated to the very purpose of treating it as one. While it may seem like an antiquated topic, the issue is still being debated and even encouraged to this day, despite its lacking ethical standing. In Tony Kushner s Angels in America, the interconnection of people and events, that might ordinarily be viewed as disconnected or unrelated, is implicitly presented in the characters section. Dual roles are implemented by a playwright that has one actor portraying the roles of two or more characters, with or without thematic intentions. The use of dual roles in several scenes of this play can be viewed as a demonstration of Kushner s effort in maintaining the interconnectedness between characters, communities (i.e. queer, heterosexual, AIDS and political communities) and events to which they are relative. In response to hearing the description of destruction and loss of life on the radio, Antarctica responds by saying, Let them. Uncountable multitudes. Horrible. It is by their own hands. I I I will rejoice to see it (Kushner 261). Explicitly Antarctica s responses implicitly parallels Roy s callous nature, perhaps as a specific reference to Roy s outlook on the AIDS community in which he is a part of but denies. This response is significant because it preserves the audiences prior knowledge of Roy and what he stands even contextually as Antarctica. As a result, the use of dual role to interrelate Roy s denial and lack of morality is able to interconnect and expose Roy s stance in relation to AIDS even as the unrelated character of Antarctica. The dual role of The Angel of Oceania and Belize is another example of Kushner s ability to sustain interconnectedness between characters and events. Principally, Oceania seems to be a caring and warm character much like Belize, but Belize is also comprised of many interesting communities such as being homosexual and being a black, male nurse. This collection of communities figuratively represents the separate islands that compose Oceania suggesting an implicit correlation in character choice. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Anti Semitism By Philip Roth Essay Anti Semitism Jewish Writers The experience of the Jewish family in the United States over the past century has been one of acculturation and accommodation to the norms and the values of America society. At the same time, Anti Semitism in America reached its peak during the interwar period between 1940s and 1960s. At that time, the Jewish Anti Semitism appeared as a phenomenon of the Depression and the 1940s. Almost all of the Jewish American writers simply presented realistic portrayals of their fellow immigrants or their parents generation. Later, some other Americans, partial to Anti Semitism, found confirmation of negative stereotypes in the new Jewish American Literature. Indeed, some parent hating or self hating Jewish American writers of the second or the third generation, living now in the bounty of American affluence, consciously reinforced negative stereotypes with satire and a selective realism. Philip Roth, whose portrayal of the tensions between these figures borders on self hatred and an almost Anti Semitic view of the Jewish family in America, is a great example of these phenomenon. In his book, Portnoy s Complaint, Roth touched on the assimilation experiences of American Jews, their relationship to Israeli Jews, and his experience as inherent in being the son of a Jewish family. Face blindness is a recognized disorder; it can vary from person to person and situation to situation. It is not an issue with vision or absent mindedness. People with prosopagnosiahave trouble with physical recognition. Recognition and memory are different. Memory is the thoughts, opinions and past experiences that is in our mind. The face is the key to accessing the memory of the person. We may forget someone here and there, but that s not a big deal. People with prosopagnosia forget often and could even forget their family. While some people have a very selective impairment that only influences the recognition of faces, others find have the disorder that extends to the recognition of other stimuli, such as objects, cars, or animals. Many people also report deficits in other aspects of face processing, such as judging age or gender, recognizing certain emotional expressions, or following the direction of a person s eye gaze. Finally, a substantial proportion of prosopagnosics reports navigational difficulties. Argument Against a Ban on Boxing Essay Argument Against a Ban on Boxing The entertaining sport of boxing, an athletic event consisting of numerous health conflictions, has been receiving some heat from legal and medical advocates, yet Some of the qualities that have open boxing to attack have, at the same time, been its salvation (Sammons 235). Boxing, which has been in existence and evolved from other forms of fighting longer than this country has been established, is a skill, talent, an ambition, and for most professional fighters, a love. Anybody who believes that there should be a complete elimination of the sport really needs to put things in perspective. In terms of numbers, I am almost one hundred percent certain that the number of deaths caused in other sports is much higher. Consider the high intensity and extremely tragic catastrophes seen in motor sports alone. Not to mention air sports, mountain and rock climbing, and the handful of ball games. The intervention of our own personal risk and danger is our own liberty. On the other hand, I certainly agree we have to prevent people from taking risks that they are ignorant about. • 30. The Pros And Cons Of Cultural Appropriation Cultural appropriation is a crime in 2017. The Kardashian family is constantly under criticism for cultural appropriation, as KhloГ© Kardashian has been accused of appropriating Native American headdresses, while Kylie Jenner has come under fire more than once for wearing cornrows. Kendall Jenner s Pepsi commercial, where she quelled a protest by offering a soda to a police officer, was lambasted as offensive and tone deaf. These are the scenarios that the word appropriationbrings to mind: privileged young women and cultural insensitivity. In I Can t Stop Thinking through What Other People are Thinking , David Shields describes a wholly different cast of appropriators: artists, writers, and composers. In his essay, Shields unleashes his frustrations regarding the country s negative attitude towards appropriation and borrowing. He asserts that there s no such thing as originality , that all life on earth...is built upon appropriation and reuse of the pre existing (Shields 736). Shields utilizes a multitude of examples to illustrate and support his points. Musicians from Mozart to Bob Dylan have utilized content or taken inspiration from other artists. You do not see them jovially discussing what is going to happen next, and/or how these changes are going to make their organization better. No, none of this is happening. Most of them are worried and wondering how these changes will affect them, and what their roles are going to be. This mindset makes organizational change difficult. Society in general just does not like change, nor are they comfortable with it. Therefore, when an organization can successfully implement change, people notice and researchers want to study them. • 35. Analysis Of The Book Youth And Ghost By Adam... The historians who begin the 20th century with the First World War do so because of the great change in thinking brought about during and after the fighting: people became less friendly toward colonialism; people s roles in their societies were often not the same after the war, most of all women, and where other methods failed to, a new kind of nationalism could perhaps help them to rebuild their identities as they rebuilt their countries. Various sources about the time can be used to examine it from different angles and draw different conclusions about it: Vera Brittain s Testament of Youth, for example, is a primary source and a memoir, assembled from her own diaries and letters sent from around the turn of the century, and has the unique flavor of being a woman s perspective during the war. King Leopold s Ghost by Adam Hochschild is a secondary source and a collection of stories all looking at the same subject colonialism in Africa, the Congo in particular and it provides multiple views through different eyes. The chapter On Humanity in Dark Times: Thoughts about Lessing from Hannah Arendt s book Men in Dark Times is also a secondary source, as the book is a collection of her own essays and thus likely has notes of personal reflection as Brittain s memoir would while bringing in the facts and somewhat journalistic observation of King Leopold s Ghost. • 39. Effects Of The Reconstruction Era The Reconstruction era was the period that followed the end of the Civil War whose purpose was to reconstruct the United States. This was done to help rebuild the South and bring it back into the Union. The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments gave African Americans some civil liberties, they prohibited slavery, gave national citizenship for every person that was born in the United States, and voting rights can not be denied because of their race or color. Looking at this era, I will discuss how it affected the society of the Americans, the economy and the laws that were passed. Although the Reconstruction Era tried to help from the end of the Civil War into the early twentieth century it resulted a failure to establish the civil rights for the African Americans. The Americans in the South felt humiliated and were against the decision of the government to give certain rights given to the African Americans. For this reason, many whites joined some groups who were against the freed slaves such as the Ku Klux Klan. The Ku Klux Klan was a political terrorist group whose purpose was to intimidate the black Americans after the 15th amendment was ratified and they were given the right to vote. The Klan had just appeared there in 1868, using intimidation, arson, whippings, sexual assault, and murder to keep potential Republican voters away from the polls in that year s election (Political Terrorism during Reconstruction, 1). This shows the actions that this social group took to terrorize the Black Americans to avoid their participation in the elections. In April 1865, before his assassination Abraham Lincoln declared that he had hope that there would be no bloody work after the war, but most of it visited upon the freedman as Northerners and Southerners black and white struggled over ... the place of African Americans in American society (The Meaning of Reconstruction, 302). The Americans in the South were not happy with the integration of the African Americans to their society. NASA made the news with each test of the X 43A scramjet craft, so I set about to discover why this type of jet engine should garner so much scientific attention. Turbojet The most basic jet engine is the turbojet. As soon as the air enters the front of the engine, the blades of the compressor, compresses the air before funneling it into the combustion chamber. During the compression, not only is the density of the air increased by compressing it in a confined chamber, but the temperature of the air also increases as the air molecules of squeezed closer together. The resulting air that emerges into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Turboprop The turboprop (turbo propeller) engine combines the simple propeller engine with that of the turbojet. In this case, in addition to driving the compressor, the turbine also drives a propeller. The propeller provides thrust like a normal propeller (the wedge shape of the blades pushes the air back), in addition to the thrust produced by the turbojet part of the engine. Ramjet The ramjet engine is a much simpler construction than either the propeller or turbojet engine. Unlike these the other engines that require moving parts (propeller, compressor, turbine, shaft, etc), the ramjet consists basically of a tube that scoops the air into the combustion chamber where it is mixed with fuel and ignited, and exhausts the hot gasses through the necked down exhaust nozzle. Because of the high speeds of operation, instead of compressing the air, the chamber of the ramjet actually expands and thereby slows the air to subsonic speeds for the combustion process. The force of the incoming air forces the combustion to be kept behind the inlet. Because of this fact, the engine cannot be operated at subsonic velocities (Velocities below Mach 1 One time the speed of sound or roughly 740 mph at standard temperature and pressure). Hence another engine has to accelerate the plane to the point where the ramjet can function. On the other hand, because of its simplistic construction, the ramjet engine can ... Some people believe surveillance is a breach of their own privacy rules. The purpose of surveillance is to influence, manage and protect societies through monitoring people s behaviors and movements. There has been a new application developed for surveillance known as crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing was coined by Jeff Howe as when a company takes a job which was once performed by employees and outsources it in the form of an open call to a large undefined group of people generally using the Internet (Brabham 18). This new application has dramatically changed the way citizens use the Internet, from becoming a place where you could not only store information but where people could retrieve and collaborate some of their own content as well as other people s information in the context of a virtual space. As a result, the development of crowdsourcing and other various new models showcased via the Internet have contributed to a shift in the Internet termed web 2.0. Web 2.0 has been applied to various technologies, products and approaches, the Internet is not just a linear, centralized structure that just shows information from the professionals, instead it is a open distributed network, a concept loosely termed as the crowd (Tewksbury 251). Brazils HDI is ranked seventy five compared to other states (which shows that money is not being distributed in the proper places because corruption is a still a major issue); the Gini coefficient is another factor of corruption (52.9 ). Since the GDP is $2.346, you would expect for the income of the individuals (the Gini coefficient) to be just as high, but in this region, wealth is not being distributed evenly. • 48. Analysis Of The Glass Menagerie The Glass Menagerie is a play written by Tennessee Williams. It is mainly about three characters: Tom Wingfield, the narrator; Amanda Wingfield, Tom s mother; and Laura Wingfield, Tom s sister. The family is supported by both Tom and Amanda, working at a shoemaking warehouse and selling magazine subscriptions respectively. However, with some things unable to work, Amanda wants Laura to have a man to support both of them, but there are some things that are restraining her from doing so, such as Laura s disposition. Tom brings a man named Jim O Connor to satisfy Amanda s wants, but this, too, does not work out. The Wingfields are all stuck in their own illusions in some way, and Jim is the only escape, coming from the real world. The Glass Menagerie explores many things in the aspects of a dysfunctional family, using contrasts between fantasy and reality. The play is based on true and accurate events, but it is from Tom s memory, so some things are exaggerated more than they should be. Some of the things Tom has experienced may be exaggerated to the point of illusion, such as Amanda s outbursts throughout the play. The audience does not know the scenario from an outside point of view, but this is Tom s memory, so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
