Environmental Issues Essay
Embarking on the journey of writing an essay on environmental issues can be a daunting task,
laden with complexities and challenges. The vast scope of this subject matter, encompassing
climate change, pollution, deforestation, and biodiversity loss, presents a myriad of
interconnected issues that require careful consideration and in-depth research.
One of the primary difficulties lies in navigating the extensive and ever-evolving body of
literature on environmental concerns. Sorting through a multitude of scientific studies, reports,
and policy documents can be overwhelming, making it challenging to distill the most relevant
and accurate information for inclusion in the essay. Additionally, the dynamic nature of
environmental issues demands a constant update on the latest developments, adding a layer of
urgency to the research process.
Crafting a coherent and compelling narrative is another hurdle. Striking the right balance
between conveying the severity of environmental challenges and proposing viable solutions
requires a nuanced approach. The essay must engage readers, fostering an understanding of the
interconnectedness between human activities and environmental consequences, without inducing
a sense of despair.
Addressing the inherent complexity of environmental issues also involves navigating the
delicate balance between scientific rigor and accessibility. The inclusion of technical terms and
intricate scientific concepts must be balanced with clarity to ensure that the essay is accessible to
a broad audience. Communicating complex environmental phenomena in a way that is both
accurate and comprehensible requires careful consideration of language and structure.
Moreover, the ethical dimension of environmental issues adds an additional layer of complexity.
Delving into the moral implications of human actions on the planet can be a sensitive endeavor,
necessitating a thoughtful and empathetic approach to foster understanding without alienating
readers.
In conclusion, writing an essay on environmental issues demands a comprehensive understanding
of scientific, social, and ethical aspects, along with the ability to synthesize complex information
into a cohesive narrative. It is an intricate process that requires time, dedication, and a
commitment to staying informed on the latest developments in the field. While the challenges
may seem formidable, the importance of addressing environmental issues makes the effort
worthwhile.

What s more, the primary goal is to make customers satisfied, however, the way to
check if customers are satisfied is not direct enough, so they should find out some
direct measures. The company tried to use its six area method to speculate customer
satisfaction, especially based on the call back rate. This way is kind of indirect, if
the company wants to know their customer satisfaction, what about just ask their
customers? In the case, when the IMMULITE 2000 is going into work, the
company was sometimes able to solve a problem before a customer was even aware
that it existed. This way is a direct way: solve the problem before a customer aware,
and then the customer would be happy about that.

If so, what would such a system look like?
If not, why not?
DPC could not use action control or personnel/cultural control instead of using a
results control system like the performance bonus system.
Action control is more specific than result control. It focuses on the process of the
whole thing while result control is focuses on the result. To use action control, it is
difficult for managers to distinguish good or bad behaviors, because the processes
and jobs are so varied. Action control also may limit employees creativity
Analysis Of The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk is a fiction movie released on June 8, 2008. The movie was
produced by Marvel Studios and Valhalla Motion Pictures. The film took place
mostly in Toronto, Canada. The director of the movie is Louis Leterrier. The movie
is about a person named Bruce Banner who transforms into a beast called the Hulk, a
huge green monster with a muscular body. The transformation is caused by a disease
that contaminated Banner s cells. The transformation happens whenever Banner gets
angry. However, the anger goes away when the Hulk sees that there is no danger
around him. The anger goes away whenever his love, Betty Rosstouches him.
Banner searches the world to find a cure for his disease, but the military keeps
blocking his way because they want his power to create an army just like the Hulk.
New threats appear trying to use the masculinity in order to achieve whatever needed.
In addition, the Hulk faces his nemesis called The Abomination. It is also a green
monster that literally has similar powers as the Hulk. The Hulk character embodies a
larger tension with our culture s relation to masculinity. On one hand, it condemns the
destruction and violence associated with masculinity, and on the other, it celebrates
it. The film can be viewed as having mixed messages for boys because it provides
unrealistic masculinity that represents good and bad manners.
The film represents violence of destruction as associated with masculinity, and it
shows this as a negative attitude, and
Power In Russia
In the short story of proposals for a new code of law talks about how Catherine the
II came to power in Russia. She came to power following a coup when her husband
Peter III, was assassinated. After death of her husband (201). With the support of the
army and the nobles, Catherine took power made her husband sign a document of
abdication. Leaving no one to dispute her coming to power. Under her rule, Russia
was modernized and she also became the longest ruling female leader of Russia.
With the country growing and becoming stronger than ever, Russia was recognized
as one of the powerful nations of Europe. During her reign, Russia was able to
accomplish many achievements and she added about 200,000 square miles of land
into the country. Not only did she added more land to the country, but she also
modernized the monarchy and tried to improve the lives of her citizens. Inspired by...

She also talks about that the true meaning of monarchy is not to deprive people of
their natural rights, but to correct their actions if they are doing something wrong.
She wanted people to attain the supreme good and so that they can all exist in
peace and harmony and so that she can make her country better. She said that
everyone should be equal and that no one should be higher than the other and that
the rich should taxes like the poor people do. During the assembly, the delegates
became preoccupied with debates because they couldn t agree whether to or not to
abolish the lower peasant class who are basically slaves for the higher class. She also

and no man should be accused or fined guilty before they are
Controversial Hunting
What goes through the minds of people when they think about trophy hunting?
Hunting is the act of pursuing and killing live animals for food, recreation, or trade.
Early human civilizations relied on hunting for subsistence. As humans and
civilizations evolved, so did hunting. Hunting became a sport rather than a necessity.
People who are for huntingclaim that it helps control wildlife populations, whereas
people against it believe that trophy hunting will lead to the extinction of certain
animals. This paper will examine viewpoint one, two, and my viewpoint on trophy
hunting being banned or not.
To begin with, viewpoint one believes trophy hunting serves no purpose and is
contributing to the eradication of species. For starters, grizzly ... Show more content

Specifically, trophy hunting could harm the environment and the entire species of the
animal killed. Firstly, grizzly bears help the environment and other animals in the
rainforest. For example, David Suzuki talks about how grizzlies bring salmon, along
with nutrients from the ocean in the salmon, into the rainforest. This leaves the
carcass of the salmon for other animals and the nutrients in the salmon for the
fertilization of the rainforest (Suzuki). Therefore, trophy hunting grizzlies harms
more than just the one bear the hunter killed. Secondly, illegal markets caused a rise
in hunting, leading to more animals being killed to be sold. For instance, Richard
Emslie and Michael Knight report that pseudo hunters would get permits to hunt
rhinos and sell their horns. This caused a temporary peak in hunting applications
(Emslie). Therefore, the hunting of animals caused illegal markets to pop up, in
which caused more people to hunt. Thirdly, some animals are already facing threats
without hunters. To illustrate, Suzuki, talking about grizzly bears, says they already
face threats from habitat loss, damage and fragmentation; cascading effects of salmon
collapse and climate change; and death from poaching. Hence, hunting only furthers
problems animals have. For all these reasons, trophy hunting is harming the
environment and other animals, plus the ones they are
Instilling Fear Through Dirty Bombs Essay
People often associate the word bomb with the idea of a weapon of mass
destruction, but in reality fear can be a weapon in of itself. Such is the case of the
dirty bomb, it is a weapon aimed at instilling fear in the local population thus making
it a weapon of mass disruption. The similarities between a dirty bomband an
improvised explosive device(IED) are remarkable. In our modern wars of Iraq,
Afghanistan and several other theaters of operations the IED has been the weapon of
choice for insurgents. They are cheap to make and can be constructed from left over
explosives and shrapnel producing elements, these same qualities are shared by the
dirty bombs. The primary and often overlooked effect is the fear that it instills in the

Gunmen overpowered the driver in the early morning hours of last Monday in
Hidalgo state about 30 miles north of the capital and made off with the truck and its
cargo. (Wilkinson, 2013)
This event goes to show how a simple truck hijacking could have produced a large
amount of materials for several dirty bombs. Fortunately in this case law
enforcement acted quickly detaining the individuals and recovering the radioactive
waste. The explosive component is no impossible task to attain either, gun powder
from Wal Mart will do. There have been documented occurrences where the
exploding component of a simple dirty bomb was comprised of traditional
dynamite (King, 2004). That shows, that any terrorist organization with the least
amount of motivation could easily gather the materials required to cause
destruction. The ease of acquiring materials for a dirty bomb is dwarfed by the
simplicity that it takes to construct the device. As mentioned earlier individuals
looking to cause destruction among the local population coupled with the basic
knowledge of explosives can create a device to create such a weapon. The
construction of a dirty bomb can be as simple as combining an explosive
component, a fuse, screws and or nails along with the radioactive material all
enclosed in a case.
The reason that the dirty bomb is such an imminent threat is because of the ease of
making it. If terrorist wanted

Frequency Adaptive Repetitive Control of Grid connected Inverters Rabia
Nazira,b, Keliang Zhoub, Neville R. Watsonb, Alan Woodb a Electrical
Engineering Department, Lahore College for Women University Lahore,
Pakistan. bElectrical and Computer Engineering Department University of
Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. Abstract Grid connected inverters (GCI)
are widely used to feed power from renewable energy distributed generators into
smarter grids. Repetitive control (RC) enables such inverters to inject high quality
fundamental frequency sinusoidal currents into the grid. However, digital RC
which can get approximately no tracking error of any periodic signal in steady
state whose period is known, cannot exactly track or reject periodic signal of
frequency variations. Thus digital RC would lead to a significant power quality
degradation of GCIs when grid frequency varies and causes periodic signal with
non integer periods. In this research paper a repetitive control scheme capable of
frequency adaptation (FARC) at a predefined sampling rate is proposed to deal
with all types of periodic signal of variable frequency. A fractional delay filter
which is based on Lagrange interpolation is used to estimate the fractional period
terms in RC. This proposed FARC controller offers the fast during process
modification of fractional delay and fast revise of filter parameters, and then provides
GCIs with a simple but very accurate existent time frequency adaptive control
Manners Are Manners Matter
Manners Matter
People living in this era must have had an experience of people bumping into each
other, and just walking away without apologizing. Some of them are in an urgent
situation and we can tolerate that there is no time to be polite but most of them,
whatever they are doing, are not in a hurry. People are usually able to judge whether
the rude person was in a crucial situation. It s true that it gets really frustrating to see
the impolite person walk away like nothing happened when my feelings are hurt. It is
becoming certain that manners and courtesies are disappearing at a rapid speed.
Manners have been greatly valued and judged since the ancient times, but not
anymore. People who did not keep their ways to monarchs or even to high officials
were often severely punished or executed. Whenever I did something that was
unmannerly, my parents punished me very harshly, usually with a long stick that I
brought home with me from camping. I always regretted that I brought that stick
home. Now, that I reflect on the things that I ve done to my parents, I think they
made the right choice.
Manners are important because they show love, gratitude, and respect toward
another when practiced. They affect how we speak or act in a given situation. For
example, saying thank you or please suggests that the person is feeling gratitude and
respect. An individual who provided help will feel absolutely delighted and feel that
is was worthwhile to give the person the help he

Brand Extension Strategy Essay
When launching a new product, it is better to pursue a brand extension strategy, than
to develop a new brand
Brand extension is a brand strategy which using the existing brand name to develop
a new product or enter into a different product category market or industry. The new
brand can be called as a sub brand , and the original brand is referred as a parent
brand . There are basically two different types of brand extensions. The first one is
line extension , which means to launch a new product which is under the same
product category as the parent brand. It usually involves more flavours or different
sizes. For example, Coca cola and Coca cherry cola. The other type is category
extensions which means to launch a product in a ... Show more content on

Brand Extensions can increase the establishment of the new product by guarantees of
its quality, getting consumers awareness and recognition. As consumers used to
remember the positive things about the parent brand, at the same time negative
things will not transferred to the sub brand. So it would reduce the risk to the first
time buyer. Moreover, if the company uses this brand extension correctly, it can not
only increase the profit of the company, but can also improve both the sub brand and
parent brand images and bring new customers into brand franchise and increase
market coverage.
In conclusion, it is true that when launching a new product, it is better to pursue a
brand extension strategy, than to develop a new brand. Brand extension is more
likely to be succeeding as it provides many advantages which describes above and
also many researches found that it is easier for company to use brand extension rather
than creating a new brand.

The Road by Comac McCarthy
In The Road, Cormac McCarthy depicts the boy as a Christ like figure that gives
hope for humanity s survival. McCarthy uses several references to the bible and
how it relates to the boys Christ like features or character. The bo+ y is the bright
spot in the dark, cold, apocalyptic world of the novel. The first description of the
boy is a clear allusion to the Godliness in him. At the beginning of the novel, the
narrator describes the father s relationship to the boy. He knew only that the child
was his warrant. He said: If he is not the word of God then God never spoke (5).
This appears to be referring to John 1:1 in the bible, In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (NIV). The man
believes that if the boy does not show some resemblance to God or God s character
then there is no God. The man seems to believe that the boy is perfect. Many
Christians believe that the Bible which is the word of God is perfect. Since Jesuswas
the messiah who had no flaws that must mean that the boy resembled the messiah
in the way of character. Since the messiah provided hope for mankind the boy was
depicted as the one to provide hope for the future. In the beginning of the book
McCarthy describes the dark, barren, cold, godless apocalyptic world around the
boy and the man. This is reminiscent of the book of Revelations in the Bible where
the world is a cold desolate place with the entire population of God believing people
and God in general go

Data protection is a very important piece of legislation that was brought into power
in 1998, because it has been designed to prevent confidential and personal
information being passed on to other people and any relevant companies without a
person s consent. This also means that any information that is stored of children
should be kept in either a password protected or lockable location.
As a childminder, if I stored any personal details about other people on my computer
or any digital format (including smartphones and photos on digital cameras), I would
probably need to notify the Information Commissioner s Office (ICO) that I was a
data controller for data protection purposes.
The ICO is the UK s independent public body set up to promote access to official
information and protect personal information. The ICO enforces and oversees the
Data Protection Act 1998.
Since 2008, as part of the Early Years Foundation Stage, childminders in England
have been expected to keep more detailed records about individual children s

Does Proof Exists that Extraterrestrial life Visited Earth
Does life exist on other planets besides Earth? Has extraterrestrial life visited Earth
recently or in our distant past? The notion of extraterrestrial life is a very
intriguing subject possibly for as long as mankind has looked into the vast
heavens gazing at the stars. Can one say that life on Earth was done by Mother
Nature which some call evolution? Is life on Earth the result of creation or
alteration by a higher power or being? Some people do believe that other forms of
life except those on Earth do exist. Others consider it false because there is no
absolute proof beyond doubts. There have been countless occurrences by
individuals around the world of either being contacted or abducted by alien life
forms. Many unofficial accounts describe the Earth as being visited by one or
more alien species. These various alien species that possibly visited Earth may be
interested in observing the development of the human species. Nevertheless there
have been many discussions of government cover ups. Scientists and astronomers
are not officially agreeing with what is explained as evidence provided by the
supporters of life forms other than mankind visiting or inhabiting Earth. In the
current era Area 51 (Cited from Wikipedia Area 51 is owned by the federal
government and was established by the CIA in 1955 to develop classified military
projects.) has been the focus of movies and alleged news reports of alien abductions,
aliens and alien aircraft sightings. My mind questions
Labelling Theory
Throughout the course of history, criminologists have dedicated their lives to
answering two fundamental questions which could potentially expose what makes
individuals within society predisposed towards criminal behaviour what makes a
criminal a criminal? Can anyone become criminal? However, understanding crime
and criminality in itself is a relatively complex and multifaceted topic, as a vast array
of theories are continually investigated, both individually and in combination, with
the objective to one day answer this lingering issue. Labelling theory and biological
positivism are two such theories within contemporary society that share this
overarching goal. Rising to prominence in the 1960s, labelling theory has produced a

The theory therefore suggests that criminology has been given too much attention
to criminals as types of people and insufficient attention to the collection of social
control responses. That therefore means the law, the police, the media and the
public publications helps to give crime its shape. This is supported by the conflict
theory which demonstrates how deviance reflects inequalities and power. This
approach holds that the causes of crime may be linked to inequalities of class, race
and gender and that who or what is labelled as deviant depends on the relative power
of categories of people. While social labels commonly comprise a part of the cultural
framework that people draw on to define and categorize the social world, deviant
labels are unique in that they are stigmatizing labels or markers this assumption is
fundamental to labelling theory. Moreover, deviant labels are linked with stigma,
meaning that the contemporary culture has attached specific, more often than not
negative metaphors or stereotypes to deviant labels evident within

The Effects Of Environmental Degradation On The
Environment
The human relationship to the environment has evolved over time as humans have
made technological advancements and cultural changes. While some may argue that
humanity is distant from nature, that could not be further from the truth. While the
human relationship to nature is not the same as it may have been in the past, humans
still rely on nature for their livelihood. Humans also have a strong impact on nature,
and processes which occur in nature, through their actions.
In the last decade, the issue of environmental degradation has become a topic of
global concern and discussion. This discussion is threading together a narrative that
helps the public and scholars better understand the human relationship to the
environment. While this push forward in environmental agenda is a good thing,
there needs to be an ongoing dialogue which allows for the understanding that
environmental degradation is not only a risk to a certain biome, but all of the
diversity that exists within a certain region a good example of this being Papua New
Guinea.
The rainforest of Papua New Guinea are incredibly rich and diverse environments; the
rainforest not only houses a wide variety of plant and animal species, but is also home
many indigenous groups. By examining the changes in Papua New Guinea s
rainforest throughout time, a better understanding of the complex and dynamic
human relationship to nature will be achieved.

Colleges have been snowballing into profit making machines throughout the past 15
years. Students wishing to pursue higher education nowadays have to take loans
and do everything they can to make minimum payments to try and pay tuition for
the college of their choice. The rate of inflation of college tuition has risen
immensely as opposed to the stagnant average income for most American
households. College has also become more and more crucial to getting jobs and it
is predicted that in the near future over two thirds of all jobs will require a college
degree. With the need for a college degree increasing at an insurmountable rate the
difficulty for finding the funds has also increased at the same rate. Although many
believe that colleges... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The formation of this organization changed the standards for college admissions for
the future and made admissions much more competitive. By 1980 higher education
took on another major change by raising tuition immensely and thus caused many
issues for most middle class American families. By 2010 Student loan debt
overtakes credit card debt in America for the first time. The average student who
took out loans for school owes $25,000, largely to the U.S. government
(Anderberg). Nowadays higher education is exceedingly crucial in obtaining a high
paying stable career path. To begin, colleges now focus on profits rather than
improving educational quality around the campus just as businesses focus on
profits. Most colleges invest large sums of money into merchandise and
memorabilia to make profits on them as well as make potential students remember
them. Merchandise and small nic nacs are great ways to grab a students attention
and make a lasting impression. It is said that Schools need a strong and memorable
identity that will make a lasting impression, in much the same way as major
corporations do (Gerri). This effort into making an impression is all just to make
sure that the percent chance of the student to choose their college raises so that they
make more money. This same strategy is seen utilized by many large corporations as
well at
Debate On Doubt And Doubt
Doubt and confidence can contradict each other. Doubt can be seen as fear of the
unknown. Confidence is having faith in your own knowledge or having a feeling
of certainty. Confidence comes first when we are certain in the credibility of the
knowledge obtained, however, confidence is provoked by doubt when we become
biased with the knowledge we already know. Both doubt and confidence are vital to
the production of knowledge. Doubt is perceived to be negative because it can be
viewed as a sign of questioning your own ability to understand concepts. knowledge
are the skills and information we obtain from our experience with the world. The
prescribed title chosen is, We know with confidence only when we know little; with
knowledge doubt increases. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This raises the question: To what extent does doubt influence the production of
knowledge? Doubt influences the production of knowledge to a greater extent by
presenting questions which are subsequently answered through inquiry. This is true
in natural science when empirical experiments are conducted to accept or reject a
hypothesis. The purpose is to develop better questions because doubt has always
been present in science. Constant repeated eliminations of older theories have
occurred and replaced because doubt questioned their validity. When Nicolaus
Copernicus doubted the Geocentric model, he conducted his own experiments to
develop the Heliocentric model that led to the development of modern astronomy.
This is a strategy of skepticism presented by doubt, it senses the validity and
assumes inquiry within a data or theory. This increases doubt in which increases
knowledge because if one does not doubt what is already known what motivation
will be present to learn more. Doubt also influences knowledge by forcing people to
change their personal knowledge to shared knowledge. It questions your known
knowledge and motivates one to research, leading to new knowledge that is shared.
Researching for my extended essay, I did not know a lot about Psychology. The
question asked: To what extent does the stigma of homosexuals in American society
lead to mental health disorders
Alpha Spectroscopy Is A Technique For Quantification Of...
Alpha spectroscopy is a technique for quantification of alpha particles and
identification of its parent radionuclide using a silicon diode semiconductor detector
[Knoll, 2010]. These detectors operate in a vacuum to enable them to detect alpha
particles emitted from a source without degradation of the alpha particleenergy. The
alpha particles are transformed into electrical pulses which are amplified and shaped
prior to conversion into a differentiated pulse height spectrum by a multichannel
analyzer. The resultant spectrum is characteristic of the energy of the originally
alpha particle and can therefore be used to identify the parent radionuclide [Boll et al,
1997].
This technique is excellent for differentiation of alpha emitters due to peak
resolution of as high as 10 keV with typical resolution of 25 30 keV [Knoll, 2010].
The detection efficiency is relatively poor (3 20%), but because of the inherently
low background of less than one count per hour in carefully controlled systems, low
minimum detection concentrations are achievable [Knoll, 2010]. The method has a
high sensitivity for detecting alpha emitting radionuclides. The ability to
discriminate among different energy levels can be used for isotope specific
measurements. If the alpha source is prepared in a proper way, there is no significant
self absorption in the alpha source itself [Knoll, 2010].
The modern version of the silicon diode semiconductor detector is the passivated
implanted planar silicon
How The Construction Caused A Poor Educational

There is a high school about thirty minutes east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In recent
year the school has been figuring out a budget and going back and fourth with
architecture firms for a thirty two million dollar renovation. I had the great pleasure
to attend the school at the time of the renovation s start. I was in my senior year at
the time construction had started. The reason for this is not just to complain about
how the construction put a damper on my senior year of high school, but to explain
how all of the construction chaos causes a poor educational environment and was not
safe for students. This is still occurring too, as the renovations will continue for
another two years.
The construction is not conducive for a good learning environment , says Nikki
Laubham, a teacher and parent. This statement could not be more true in this case.
An average day in Penn Trafford High School (PTHS) consists of ceiling tiles
removed, mysterious liquids dripping from pipes, and rooms being changed around
at the last moment. You wouldn t believe that students still had to manage their way
around this school. Hallways are closed down, carpet are ripped up, and even walls
nocked down. This picture on the left was taken by Jackson Laubham, a sophomore
at PTHS. Having conditions like the one shown in the picture puts stress on students
which will impair their leering ability , comments Nikki when I showed her this
picture. I had the pleasure of talking to my former teacher, Mark

Personal Assessment Of Strengths And Areas For
Development
What did you learn about your leadership? Personal Assessment of Strengths and
Areas for Development. I have more than one overdone strengths. One of them is
over optimism about people, organization, and trust in the management team.
Whether it s upper level, or middle management, I always feel that they know the
best, and they know what they are doing. I only see that everything is done
accurately as they are versus how they could or should be. Remaining loyal to
others and the organization does cause issues for me, because others don t
normally see it that way. Trying to make things easier for others, or trying to be
less of a burden on others is perceived as I have no backbone of myself. Defending
the rights of others is seen as I m just always siding with the others. Ensuring others
are valued is seen as what do I need from them. Being sincere is seen as I don t
know what I m doing, and am very easy to please, so I can be ignored. Involve
family and friends to point out to me when I m over using my strengths. This will
make me aware of what I really need to concentrate on. This will help me focus and
align my strengths on the needs of everyone, and the organization, and concentrate on
other people who have complementary strengths. Realization that my overdone
strengths could in fact be detrimental to not only my progress, but also others. In
general, overdoing it may hurt my effectiveness just as much as underdoing it. I have
to be more cognizance of how others are
American Elm Disease
The American elm, at one time was a popular shade tree along many city streets in
the eastern United States ( Buyers, 1996). It was popular, because of its vase shape,
which provide good shade for houses along busy streets. The Dutch Elm Disease
was initially discovered in the Netherlands in 1921 (Buyers, 1996). It was around
the early 1930s when it was first discovered in Ohio and a few other states in the
East, and by 1973 it had spread as far west as California ( Buyers, 1996). People at
the time didn t know the disease was spread by a fungus through the roots grafting,
which was discovered much later. The spread was known to be caused by at least
two beetles. The two main carriers of the fungus are the American native elm bark
beetle, and the European bark beetle ( Haugen, 2014). They transfer the fungus
through the xylem, which then goes to both the roots as well as branches. Trees that
get infected in spring or early summer die quickly, whereas plants that get infected in
late summer often recover from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the symptoms start in the lower crown and move up, it is more likely the
infection was started in the roots. If the infection started in the upper portion of the

dark streaks under the bark ( Haugen, 2014). Examining the tissue under the bark for
this kind dark streaking is a means of determining the presence of the specific

Though we know a lot about radio astronomy, the problem that is stopping the Search
for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence (better known as SETI) from finding anyone is the
vastness of space. The chance of us pointing our telescopes at the right point in the
universe at the right time is astronomical. The chance of aliens finding us is just as
bad. If life on Alpha Centauri, the closest star to our solar system, found us and sent
a message, traveling at the speed of light, we would not receive it for four and one
half years. Then, it would take another four and one half years for our reply to reach
them. The distances make communication while on our home worlds nearly
impossible.
Even if aliens came to Earth, they could have ships that cannot be found with our
tracking devices. If I was an extraterrestrial, and saw the problems on Earth, I
would take my ship and leave as soon as possible. I would never go near a race still
killing each other over stupid things. I do not think we can start our search for
extraterrestrial intelligence in earnest until we can live in harmony as humans.
Most people do not realize what we are sending to outer space. Every second, we
send many television signals everywhere, traveling at the speed of light, and they
are strong enough to be found anywhere in space. We send so many signals, humans
are polluting outer space. The first message they would receive would be of the 1936
Olympics, since that was the first television signal strong

Abstract
Egypt is a North African country. Civilization of Egypt is amongst the oldest
known civilizations of the world. Term Egypt has a Greek origin which means
House of the Spirit of Ptah . Ptah was the earliest God of this land. Egypt is also
known as Kemet which means Dark Land . This name is given to Egypt because of
the dark soil that exists along the banks of Nile River. Misr was the name which was
given to it later. The civilization of Ancient Egyptis divided into three periods based
on the peaks of civilization. The first one of them was the Old Kingdom which is the
subject of this research study.
Introduction
The period of third millennium BC is known as the Old Kingdom in Kemetic.
Egypt attained its first peak of civilization during this period. There are three
identifiable kingdom periods in Egypt. They are Old Kingdom , Middle Kingdom ,
and New Kingdom . Each of these kingdoms represent a high point of civilization
along lower Nile Valley. Eighteenth century historians were the pioneers who used
this term for the first time. According to the Ancient Egyptians, the distinction
between the early dynastic period and the Old Kingdom cannot be recognized. It is
also because of the fact the first two kings of the Old Kingdom were related the last
dynastic kingdom. Ineb Hedg was the Royal capital in
Methane Faults
Tectonic plates, giant masses of land that are moving constantly, create faults, where
tectonic plates meet. Scientists have discovered something new and extraordinary at
these faults. They found that the chemical compound , methane, a greenhouse gas, is
being released through these faults called brittle faults. Methaneis moving to less
shallow parts of the earths crust or into the oceans themselves. Although methane is
known to be bad for the environment, scientists found out that they can precisely date
fault lines by examining the methane in the area. A special study called The Nature
Communications in Norway has precisely dated a fault line to 200 million years ago.
By using this method of dating, scientists could end up precisely dating

Attracting females and racial/ethnic minorities to law enforcement
The article Attracting females and racial/ethnic minorities to law enforcement is
about local law enforcement agencies and their efforts to engage women and ethnic
/minorities into participating in law enforcement agencies applicant processes and
also concerns the hiring patterns of law enforcement agencies and the abilities of
these agencies to fill sworn positions with females and minority officers. The arrival
of the 20th century brought with it a change in the policing environment from the
spoils system of earlier days to a more inclusive environment for female and minority
presence within officer ranks. Some of the problems that law enforcement agencies
of the more recent times will have with attracting females and minorities into law
enforcement agency careers comes from outside of the agencies, but the most
important determining problems can come from within those agencies themselves
such as fear of the race and gender discrimination from the likes of employers and co
workers that makes females and minorities reluctant to join law enforcement
agencies. The more highly televised incidents of the police brutality such as the
Rodney King beating, Abner Louima torturing, and other abuse of force incidents
make it very important
Difference Between Art And Louis Vuitton
For centuries, luxury, than luxury brands have been carefully involved with the arts
and culture. Art thrives in the lap of luxury. From royals patronising arts and crafts
to the rich and famous coveting art pieces and becoming devoted collectors. Then
the starting point of the luxury world is design and excellence in craftsmanship.
Luxury goods are after all the handicrafts of art applied art if you may. The two
worlds borrow heavily from each other and past collaborations between artists and

long run usually leads to decreasing and otherwise a price increase to growing
demand (Charlesworth, 2003). Also, Louis Vuitton raises prices incessantly year after
year with the intention of increasing requirement. Luxury brands like Louis Vuitton

The Meaning Of Life In Siddhartha
iddhartha LAP
Topic #8
Abid Ahmad
Everything we do in the world is absolutely pointless. We as humans are irrelevant
specks in the vast universe that go about our repetitive lives for no apparent reason.
At the end of the day, it makes no difference how much good or bad we do in the
world. This is the ignorant view of the world that fails to see the perfect harmony in
which we all live our lives. The redundant cycles that we try so hard to get away
from are part of our overarching connectedness as humans. As parts of a whole, all
of us have a role to play in making our lives better for ourselves and others. Our role
is the very meaning of life, and we should embrace it wholeheartedly. The novel
Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse stresses this cyclical unification through various
circular constructions throughout Siddhartha s life. Siddhartha had to deal with
many individual stages of his life that seemed pointless. These cycles almost drove
him to the point of suicide, but he was saved by the river which acted as a symbol
for his entire life, as a united whole. This was the gateway to his attainment of
enlightenment, allowing him to feel closer to everyone around him. Siddhartha
began as an affluent Brahmin s son, coveted by all close to him. His family and
friends greatly admired the level of intuition and intellect that Siddhartha had
possessed. Govinda, his best friend, constantly adored him and followed in his
footsteps. In this life, Siddhartha began the
President Andrew Jackson And The Indian Removal Act Of
1830
After the southern state stated that they wanted both political and military action on
removing Native American Indians off the southern states, President Andrew
Jackson signed the Indian removal act of 1830. They were forced to move and
concede to U.S. law or leave their homelands, which led to the Trail of Tears. When
the Indians left their homeland, they suffered a long and painful journey that they
had to endure in order to be able to reach their new home in the west which is now
known as, Oklahoma. This was caused by Land hungry americans in the 19th
century that poured into the coastal south and began moving towards the
Mississippi river and Alabama. The Indian Removal act of 1830 authorized
President Jackson to carry out the policy in his first message to congress. He would
be able to trade unorganized public land in the trans Mississippi west for indian land
in the east. The law required the government to negotiate removal treaties fairly and
peacefully: It did not allow the president or anyone else to coerce Native nations into
giving up their land. However, President Jackson and his government most commonly
ignored the letter of the law and forced Native Americans to vacate lands they had
lived on for generations. As white settlers continued to settle North America and push
west there were numerous conflicts with native american tribes. Andrew Jackson s
policy, the indian removal act, intensified this conflict. When jackson ignored the

Anxious Mothers And Infant Development
Anxious Mothers Impact on Infant Development
Women go through a major life transition during pregnancy and early motherhood
that is physically and mentally demanding making women more susceptible to stress
and anxiety (Henrichs, Schenk, Schmidt, Velders, Hofman, Jaddoe, Verhulst,
Tiemeier, 2009). I have had personal experiences observing anxious young mothers
interact with their infants and children. I have seen these children eventually display
developmental delays, poor eating and sleeping behaviors, and even their own
anxieties. I am unsure about whether this maternal anxiety accounts for these
problems. How do anxious mothers impact infant development?
Researchers have studied many different forms of maternal stress and anxiety
Comparing Plato s The Republic
What mix of traits creates the perfect ruler? Some may say charisma, personability,
or even good looks. Throughout history, a plethora of leaders with different views
have been successful for many different kinds of societies. Depending on what the
society needs, rulers change their ways as well as do what they can for the good of
their people. In Platos The Republic, the character Socrates argues with his peers
about what makes the perfect society, as well as the perfect leader. According to
Plato, the wisest choice for a ruler in a near perfect society is a philosopher,
containing multiple important attributes. A wide variety of characteristics are
covered, yet Plato seems to focus in on several key foundations. Plato s views on
essential traits of a philosopher focus on the necessity of truthand thirst for knowledge
. Perhaps the most important trait of a philosopher is the ability to learn. This trait
is important because if it pains a philosopher to learn, they can t be expected to
enjoy it or have much success (486 c). The idea of constantly wanting more
knowledge is abundant. Plato often states that a yearning for knowledge will come
at a young age, and that it won t be easy (485 d). Searching for knowledge is a
lifelong commitment that takes dedication and persistence. He also gives a counter
example while talking about the timarchic character as well as the oligarchic society.
Due to an imperfect education, the timarchic leader will have inner conflict when it
School Mold Research Paper
As soon as you spot even a small patch of mold in your bathroom, you need to take
action. Mold can quickly grow and spread from a tiny patch the size of a dime to a
patch that is at least a square foot in a very short matter of time. Due to how quickly
mold spreads and due to the fact that some mold is harmful, any moldthat shows up
in your bathroom needs to be addressed quickly.
Location Of The Mold
The first thing you need to do is look at the location of the mold. If the mold is on a
solid, non porous surface, such as your bathroom wall or shower wall, you can clean
the mold.
However, if the mold is on a porous surface, such as on the carpet or on the pad in
your bathtub, you should not clean the object. You should remove the object from
your bathroom inside of a sealed plastic bag and throw it away. It can be next to
impossible to remove mold from a porous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thing you will want to do is put on protective gear. You should always
wear gloves and a mask when dealing with mold. In case the mold is toxic, you don
t want to breath it in or get it on you.
Next, you need to create a cleaning solution. Fill a clean spray bottle 3/4 full with
warm water, and then top off the other 1/4 of the bottle with bleach. This strong
solution will help kill the mold in your bathroom.
Spray the solution you created over the entire infected area. You may also want to
spray a few inches around the infected area; it generally takes time for mold to
become visible to the naked eye, which is why it is a good idea to clean beyond its
visible boundaries.
Let the solution sink in for a minute or so; then use a scrub brush to scrub away the
mold. After you have scrubbed the area for a few minutes, wipe it down with a paper
towel. Place the scrub brush and paper towel into a plastic trash bag; mold spores are
microscopic, so it is best to bag and throw away any cleaning materials you

feeding them the same food, but I am watching my pets very closely for any
abnormal behavior at all. I m sure many pet owners are doing the same. But I did
decide I could do one thing for my dogs and that is to make them some dogbiscuits
myself. That way, I know what is going into the ingredients and if anything is tainted,
it will make me sick, too. Most of the ingredients for these homemade dog biscuits
are items already in my kitchen. A few years ago, my sister had given me a dog
biscuit set. I ve used it a couple of times, then put it up and forgot about it. Now, I ve
pulled it out again. The company s name is You Bake Em Dog Biscuits with P.C.
Edge s World Famous Recipes . It came with three cookie cutters: a fire hydrant, a
bone and of course a cat. It also included a mini book with tips on caring for your dog
and several recipes. Making them is simple and quick, so I thought I d share a few of
the recipes. Dog Treat Special (10 bark rating) 1 lb. raw beef liver, sliced 3 cups
water 1 cup self rising cornmeal mix or rice flour 1/4 cup quick cooking oatmeal 1/2
cup whole wheat flour 1/2 cup all purpose flour 1 tsp. garlic powder 1 tbsp. brown

Occupational Therapy Compliance
Compliance, or the lack thereof, is a factor that is crucial in occupational therapy
treatments as well as in many other healthcare fields. Noncompliance with certain
protocols, instructions, or home programs that may be prescribed to a client or
patient can be detrimental to the progress in treatment and overall wellness, as well
as engagement in meaningful occupations. Successful compliance to the challenge
presented for this assignment was created by a combination of the personal desire to
perform the activity, the motivation to be successful, and the potential benefits from
performing the activity successfully over the course of eleven days.
The activity chosen was to drink, at a minimum, seventy five ounces of water each
day. A Camelbak Eddy water bottle was used, as the bottle holds twenty five
ounces, and drinking three full bottles made it easy to keep track of. Because the
activity was a personal choice, there was a lot of motivation to complete the program
successfully. Some days were harder than others, based on the schedule of the day or

Before the program began, research was done to be sure of a healthy amount of
water intake appropriate for my body weight. The water bottle used in the program
was already in my possession, which made it easy to begin the program right away.
Successfully complying with this task was of interest to me because I understand the
health benefits of drinking water and the impact it can have on health. In some
cases, a client being presented with a new task may not feel the same way, which is
the difference between success and failure in complying with a program being
prescribed. In addition, I used this assignment as a vehicle to begin something I ve
wanted to do for some time. The incentive for successful completion was personally
motivated. This made successful compliance for the task very
The Importance Of Cultural History On Culture
Assessing Cultural History People are born physically, socially, and culturally
unaware. Instinct is an unlearned behavior that all species encounter. Humans are
different than other creatures. Humans need social experiences from their culture to
survive (Macionis, 2002 04). Humans are the only creatures that depend on culture
instead of instinct to survive (Harris, 1987). Culture is something that has be learned.
We are not born with culture, but however born into culture. We are not handed our
habits and beliefs, rather they are obtained through social experiences. We learn our
language, values, morals, compassions, feelings, and religion, etc. It is through
interaction with other people that we learn to be members of the society.... Show more

However, there are unique aspects in the lives of Blacks that distinguishes them from
American Europeans. Even though African Americans from Western, Central, and
Southern Africa have different experiences, languages, and cultures, it was their
shared enslavement that created the cultural system that was inherited from Africans
to their ancestors.
Family Values Prior to slavery ending, African Americanfamilies were separated
because parents and their children were auctioned to different slave owners and
rooted in unknown geographic areas. This commonality of these families formulated
strong bonds that gave them the strength to move forward. African Americans place
importance on of family and the church. There are extended family bonds with
individuals such as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Even those individuals
who are not blood related may have a vital function in the family make up. It is
tradition to give elders of the family respect because the oldest family member
suffered hardship longer than older member of the family. Grandparents, especially,
grandmothers, are important in African American families as they support the
mothers and are care givers for the children. When mothers cannot fulfill their roles,
grandmothers become the primary parents of child or children. By the end of life,
grandparents are cared for in the home by African Americans

Redemption is a capacity that both Amir from the remarkable novel Kite Runner,
written by Khaled Hosseni along with Walt Kalwoski the main character of the
unforgettable movie Gran Tornio, directed by Clint Eastwood, withhold. Both Walt
and Amir were collided with life changing events that later shaped the individuals
they are today. Nevertheless, throughout both stories, the protagonists are faced with
opportunities to redeem themselves, often at the risk of hurting their loved ones more
than they already have. There is a reason for everything and in Walt and Amirs case
that saying is quite evident. Walt and Amir are two completely divergent characters
with opposite personalities. However, this doesn t interfere with the fact that both...

Kowalski has nothing not regret and bitter memories of this horrific event. Both
the narrators are seeking a form of salvation, Amir s journey to redemption has its
few differences from Walt s path. In the beginning of Kite Runner, the tension
between Amir and Baba is quite visible. Amir believes that Baba hates him because
of the fact that Amir s mother passed away giving birth to him. Therefore, Amir
does as much as he can to get Baba to stop hating him. Amir is determined to
redeem himself to Baba s. Amir goes out of his way and makes winning the Kite
tournament is ultimate goal to gain Baba s love, attention along with redemption.
But all I heard all I willed myself to hear was the blue kite. All I smelled was
victory, Salvation. Redemption. If Baba was wrong and there was a God like they
said in school, then he d let me win. I didn t know what the other guy was playing
for, maybe just bragging rights. But this was my one chance to become someone
who was looked at, not seen, listened to, not heard.(Hosseini page 69) In other
words, Amir attempts to use the victory of the Kite tournament as a way to fix his
relationship with Baba. This is awfully similar to Walt s situation. At the Lor BBQ in

Examples Of Undertaking Missions In Barrio Boy
The Drive; Undertaking Missions Introduction What drives someone to undertake a
mission? Maybe the desire to discover, or learn something new, like a new skill.
Also, in some cases, longing for something better can be drive someone. Three good
examples for undertaking missions are Ernesto Galarza, Farah Ahmedi, and Billy
Colman. These three people show determination, bravery, love, confidence, and
dedication during the missions they have undertaken. Barrio Boy Barrio Boy is a
memoir written by Ernesto Galarza about how he immigrated to California, where he
started public school in the first grade. Ernesto s mission is to discover a new

Billy, before he gets his dogs, is faced with a dilemma, he very badly wants dogs,
but being in the middle of the Great Depression, Billy cannot find the money to
buy the dogs he so very badly wants to hunt with. This is where Billy finds the
drive to undertake his mission. Billy s mission was to raise the money for two
hounds. He needed fifty dollars. For this mission, Billy shows determination,
bravery, dedication, and compassion. Determination and dedication are shown
when Billy starts working for his money. It took Billy two years to raise fifty
dollars. Also, when Billy sneaks out to town, by himself, to pick up his hounds, he
shows his bravery and dedication to the job. Then, Billy shows bravery when he
hunts with his dogs. Alone at night, with the threat of mountain lions, Billy takes
his hounds out to hunt, with no idea of what could happen. He also shows his
drive by saying, I told him I wasn t giving up until my dogs did. Finally, Billy
shows compassion to his dogs by taking the dogs everywhere with him. They never
leave his side. Billy was driven by love, for the most part, to take this mission into his
Machiavellian Folly in The Prince Essay
Machiavellian Folly in The Prince
In the annals of history, many individuals have contributed great works of literature,
waxing philosophically on the meaning of life, death, and love. Niccolo Machiavelli
wrote not on love or life, but on power: How to capture it, how to consolidate it, and
how to defend it against all comers. His work has been talked about and dissected to
the extent that his subject matter and methods have earned their own moniker:
Machiavellian. Nonetheless, this great philosopher s works did not meet with
unanimous approval. His own student, Thomas Hobbes, presented a very different
account of politics. This essay offers a Hobbesian critique of some of Machiavelli s
arguments, focusing in and around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 Humans, according to Machiavelli, are not the morally grounded beings the Bible
espouses them to be. He writes in The Prince: For one can say this generally of men:
that they are ungrateful, fickle, pretenders and dissemblers, evaders of danger,
eager for gain.3 Clearly, Machiavelli argues that man is precarious a being of
dubious morals and selfish desires. Hobbes agreed with this analysis, and took it
one step further. According to Hobbes, all mankind has a restless and perpetual
desire for power, which ceaseth only with death 4. Moreover, man can never be
satisfied with the power he has. Hobbes writes:
... [man] cannot assure the power and the means to live well, which he hath present,
without the acquisition of more [power].
Man s first need is to provide security for himself. Past experience and reason
dictate that he will do this by any means necessary even if it means killing
everyone around him. Critics argue that Hobbes and Machiavelli are too
pessimistic; but they would both beg to differ. To both Hobbes and Machiavelli,
Aristotelian virtue is a deception; it can never be reached. Men do not want to be
good; they want to lie, they want to cheat, and they want to kill. To expect otherwise
would be contrary to their hostile nature. To both Hobbes and Machiavelli, political
analysis must begin by identifying the human being for what he really is a self

Proctor Pride Quotes
Pride in what you do and who you are is a strong foundation, but don t be defined
by your oppression; use your anger, don t let it use you, (Dave Mckean http:/
/meetville.com/quotes/tag/pride/page57 2010 2014 Meetville). Proctor tries to
free himself from his pride or from his honest conscience. Proctor has many sins
from the past catching back up with him, putting his wife, family, himself, and
even the town in danger. Proctors pride saves him from committing more sins, but
still, in a way ends in a tragedy. Proctor seems to have the weight of the world on
his shoulders at this time period. He cheated on his loving wife, breaks it off with
his girlfriend, and now his girlfriend is out to get his wife and his family. Cheating
on his wife is what got him into the mess he s in so he s feeling pretty bad for him.
Proctor then breaks it off with Abigail, his girlfriend, and then confesses his love
for his wife and promises to remain loyal to her. Proctor: Abby, youВ’ ll put it out of
mind. IВ’ ll not be cominВ’ for you more. (Crucible Arthur Millller Act 1 Page 23).

Who Is Paul Revere A Hero
Paul Revere wasn t the only hero. In fact there were many other people that helped
Paul Revere. Many people have changed facts around and made it look like he is the
only hero. This brings up the issue about authors changing what people have done to
their own stories. They shouldn t change what people did because they should present
them as they were, they shouldn t change their accomplishments, and they should
have respect for their families. Authors should remain historically accurate when they
write about a real person as a herobecause they should present them as they were.
Authors shouldn t be able to change what people were because they could make
them look bad or make things up that didn t even happen. They could change the way

John Steinbeck Essay
John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California, a farming
community with of about 2500 people. He was the third of four children and the
only son of John Ernst and Olive Hamiton Steinbeck. His sisters Beth and Esther
were much older than John and he felt closest to Mary, the youngest. He spent his
childhood and adolescence in the Salinas Valley, which he later called the saladbowl
of the nation. John s mother, Olive, was the daughter of Irish immigrants. She left her
parents ranch to become a teacher. John remembered his mother as energetic and full
of fun. He called his father, in contrast, a singularly silent man. Steinbeck s father,
also named John, worked as the treasurer of Monterey County. He had chosen a...

By 1925, Steinbeck had decided he had spent enough time in school. Steinbeck
traveled by freighter to New York City,as all good writers did. Steinbeck worked as
a brick layer in the construction of Madison Square Garden. John worked as a
reporter for the New York American. He got fired because he couldn t or wouldn t
report facts as he found them only the poetry or pilosophy he saw in them. New York
was a cold, frightening place to him and Steinbeck, deeply discouraged, returned to
California.
Steinbeck took a job as a caretaker at a vacation home near Lake Tahoe. He was
alone most of the time and became indulged in his writings. He finished writing his
first novel in 1928. The book, title Cup of Gold, was a historical tale of the pirate
Henry Morgan. When the owners of the vacation home found that a pine tree had
crashed through their roof, he lost his job but go one the next day in a trout

Immediately, John was attracted to her. He took her out on a date before she

promptly moved to San Francisco to be with Carol. Cup of Gold was published in
1929. Steinbeck would send his books off to friends to have them type them and

Taking a Look at Dropping the H-Bomb on Hiroshima and...
background
Before the bombing of Hiroshima, the United States of America had already mad
plans to invade Japan with several operations in the process. While the war in
Europe ended on May 8,1945 when Nazi Germany signed the Instrument of
surrender , the Pacific war continued. For many months, the U.S. had dropped as
many as 63 million leaflets, intending to warn civilians of an air raid. USA called for
surrender from the Japanese armed forces on July 26, 1945 with threats of prompt
and utter destruction.

The Manhattan Project was led by the United States with support from the United
Kingdom and Canada. It was a development and research program that made the
first atomic bombs during World War 2. There was more than 30 sites across the
U.S, the UK and Canada devoted to research and production. Over 1,000 scientists
contributed to the project. The project also gathered intelligence on German nuclear
weapons and energy project. Many of the labor force served in Europe, occasionally
behind enemy lines, and gathered nuclear materials, documents and even gathered up
German scientists. The personnel at the project worked experimenting with and
developing nuclear weapons. By August of 1945, the Allied Manhattan Project had
successfully tested and produced atomic weapons. The very first nuclear device ever
to explode was the implosion type bomb at the
Revelation Sparknotes
The book Revelation by David Yonggi Cho is an informative book about the
mysteries of Revelation. Throughout revelation there is trials and tribulations that
the people of earth will have to go through because they did not believe in God, and
did not wish to be saved. In revelation God the Father and the Son will cleanse this
world of all sin and evil. Revelation is a book of the bible that tells what is to come
in the future, just like the books Daniel and Isaiah. God is each one of these books
appears to people and gives the visions of what is to come. Jesus is coming back
for his people, they are the true church not the people who act like they are believers.
Jesus will come back for the church before the tribulation this is called the rapture.

seventh there was a great earthquake and hail. All these things are to make the
people of earth see God s power and to change their ways and give their lives to
God. Sadly this will not happen because they will have hard hearts, and instead hate
God. The thing is since they are not going to change their hearts they will suffer
throughout the tribulation wanting death but it shall elude them. Many will die
because of the calamities, but those that don t will have to suffer in pain on earth.
And when they die they will be in even worse pain because they will have gone to

Summary Of Legal Alien By Pat Mora
In Pat Mora s poem Legal Alien , the speaker uses language to undermine the single
story that people of two cultures can only belong within one category; thus
asserting the danger of isolation from both cultures that accompanies this single
story. Mora uses a comparison to highlight how a two sided object can be conjoined
to create one cohesive item. Comparing themself to a handy token the speaker
references the ability to have two cultures, yet remain as one person. The metaphor
asserts that the speaker is similar to a token, which is an object of two sides, yet one
complete object. In the context of the speakers two competing cultures Mexican and
American, the speaker is still one person. The usage of a metaphor challenges society

The speaker claims that they are pre judged bi laterally. The use of the verb pre
judged, illustrates how the speaker, will always be mistaken for who they are not.
Their true identity can t be revealed, due to the fact that they are already judged
and the single story has already been created. Further, Mora adds bi laterally , to
reveal how the judging takes place on both sides, or by the two cultures. This
begins to reveal the danger of isolation that comes with the single story. As
Mexicans learn the speaker is American, the speaker becomes alien. As Americans
learn the speaker is Mexican, the speaker becomes exotic... inferior...[and] different.
The speaker will constantly be misinterpreted for who they are not, based on their
cultural identities. As bi cultural people are pre judged, they don t get a chance to
display their true demeanors, due to the fact that society can t look beyond their
first impressions. The speaker can t be accepted, and is too foreign to be classified
as both cultures. As a result, the speaker faces
Rape And Its Effect On Society
When it comes to the word Deviance or Deviant, this means that any action or
behavior that is considered unacceptable to society as a whole. The meaning of
being raped is where the rapist forces sex upon their victim of the rapists choosing.
Rape is a type of sexual behavior that is considered a deviant act that is
unacceptable to society. At least, unacceptable in the United States since committing
this type of criminal deviant act could result in being arrested if caught. Being the
victim of this deviant act can happen to anyone, at any age all around the world.
The deviant individual that rapes their victim often rapes for a sense of control and
power. Perhaps, the deviant individual rapes their victim because of an obsession
towards the victim that could eventually lead the rapist to a rage of violence to rape
their victim the rapist is obsessed with. However, when it comes to society there
seems to be a trend to blame the victims (women) for being raped because of either
how they act, behave or dress. Littleton mentions in the article citing from Paul and
Hayes 2002 Paul et al. 2000 how one of the myths regarding rape could be from the
greater acceptance of causal sexual encounters between men and women, however;
engaging in causal sexual encounters is viewed differently between men and women
and how in general this type of behavior is viewed to enhance a man s reputation
and social status as a proof of their sexual prowess and masculinity (Rape Myths and

  • 1. Environmental Issues Essay Embarking on the journey of writing an essay on environmental issues can be a daunting task, laden with complexities and challenges. The vast scope of this subject matter, encompassing climate change, pollution, deforestation, and biodiversity loss, presents a myriad of interconnected issues that require careful consideration and in-depth research. One of the primary difficulties lies in navigating the extensive and ever-evolving body of literature on environmental concerns. Sorting through a multitude of scientific studies, reports, and policy documents can be overwhelming, making it challenging to distill the most relevant and accurate information for inclusion in the essay. Additionally, the dynamic nature of environmental issues demands a constant update on the latest developments, adding a layer of urgency to the research process. Crafting a coherent and compelling narrative is another hurdle. Striking the right balance between conveying the severity of environmental challenges and proposing viable solutions requires a nuanced approach. The essay must engage readers, fostering an understanding of the interconnectedness between human activities and environmental consequences, without inducing a sense of despair. Addressing the inherent complexity of environmental issues also involves navigating the delicate balance between scientific rigor and accessibility. The inclusion of technical terms and intricate scientific concepts must be balanced with clarity to ensure that the essay is accessible to a broad audience. Communicating complex environmental phenomena in a way that is both accurate and comprehensible requires careful consideration of language and structure. Moreover, the ethical dimension of environmental issues adds an additional layer of complexity. Delving into the moral implications of human actions on the planet can be a sensitive endeavor, necessitating a thoughtful and empathetic approach to foster understanding without alienating readers. In conclusion, writing an essay on environmental issues demands a comprehensive understanding of scientific, social, and ethical aspects, along with the ability to synthesize complex information into a cohesive narrative. • 3. Diagnostic Products Corporation Essay Case Diagnostic Products Corporation Sha Wu 1) Evaluate the design and the implementation of the performance bonus program at DPC. What changes would you suggest, if any? In this case, the FSE (field service engineers) is an important part of the whole corporation and also the system. The system is established to influence the performance of the FSEs to a desirable way and keep their customers satisfied. Therefore, the company designed a six areas method for the performance bonus program. What s more, the primary goal is to make customers satisfied, however, the way to check if customers are satisfied is not direct enough, so they should find out some direct measures. The company tried to use its six area method to speculate customer satisfaction, especially based on the call back rate. This way is kind of indirect, if the company wants to know their customer satisfaction, what about just ask their customers? In the case, when the IMMULITE 2000 is going into work, the company was sometimes able to solve a problem before a customer was even aware that it existed. This way is a direct way: solve the problem before a customer aware, and then the customer would be happy about that. 2) Instead of using a results control system could DPC use action and/or personnel /cultural controls? If so, what would such a system look like? If not, why not? DPC could not use action control or personnel/cultural control instead of using a results control system like the performance bonus system. Action control is more specific than result control. It focuses on the process of the whole thing while result control is focuses on the result. To use action control, it is difficult for managers to distinguish good or bad behaviors, because the processes and jobs are so varied. Action control also may limit employees creativity
  • 4. Analysis Of The Incredible Hulk The Incredible Hulk is a fiction movie released on June 8, 2008. The movie was produced by Marvel Studios and Valhalla Motion Pictures. The film took place mostly in Toronto, Canada. The director of the movie is Louis Leterrier. The movie is about a person named Bruce Banner who transforms into a beast called the Hulk, a huge green monster with a muscular body. The transformation is caused by a disease that contaminated Banner s cells. The transformation happens whenever Banner gets angry. However, the anger goes away when the Hulk sees that there is no danger around him. The anger goes away whenever his love, Betty Rosstouches him. Banner searches the world to find a cure for his disease, but the military keeps blocking his way because they want his power to create an army just like the Hulk. New threats appear trying to use the masculinity in order to achieve whatever needed. In addition, the Hulk faces his nemesis called The Abomination. It is also a green monster that literally has similar powers as the Hulk. The Hulk character embodies a larger tension with our culture s relation to masculinity. On one hand, it condemns the destruction and violence associated with masculinity, and on the other, it celebrates it. The film can be viewed as having mixed messages for boys because it provides unrealistic masculinity that represents good and bad manners. The film represents violence of destruction as associated with masculinity, and it shows this as a negative attitude, and

With the country growing and becoming stronger than ever, Russia was recognized as one of the powerful nations of Europe. During her reign, Russia was able to accomplish many achievements and she added about 200,000 square miles of land into the country. She wanted people to attain the supreme good and so that they can all exist in peace and harmony and so that she can make her country better. She said that everyone should be equal and that no one should be higher than the other and that the rich should taxes like the poor people do. • 6. Controversial Hunting What goes through the minds of people when they think about trophy hunting? Hunting is the act of pursuing and killing live animals for food, recreation, or trade. Early human civilizations relied on hunting for subsistence. As humans and civilizations evolved, so did hunting. Hunting became a sport rather than a necessity. People who are for huntingclaim that it helps control wildlife populations, whereas people against it believe that trophy hunting will lead to the extinction of certain animals. This paper will examine viewpoint one, two, and my viewpoint on trophy hunting being banned or not. To begin with, viewpoint one believes trophy hunting serves no purpose and is contributing to the eradication of species. For starters, grizzly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically, trophy hunting could harm the environment and the entire species of the animal killed. Firstly, grizzly bears help the environment and other animals in the rainforest. For example, David Suzuki talks about how grizzlies bring salmon, along with nutrients from the ocean in the salmon, into the rainforest. This leaves the carcass of the salmon for other animals and the nutrients in the salmon for the fertilization of the rainforest (Suzuki). Therefore, trophy hunting grizzlies harms more than just the one bear the hunter killed. Secondly, illegal markets caused a rise in hunting, leading to more animals being killed to be sold. For instance, Richard Emslie and Michael Knight report that pseudo hunters would get permits to hunt rhinos and sell their horns. This caused a temporary peak in hunting applications (Emslie). Therefore, the hunting of animals caused illegal markets to pop up, in which caused more people to hunt. Thirdly, some animals are already facing threats without hunters. To illustrate, Suzuki, talking about grizzly bears, says they already face threats from habitat loss, damage and fragmentation; cascading effects of salmon collapse and climate change; and death from poaching. Hence, hunting only furthers problems animals have. For all these reasons, trophy hunting is harming the environment and other animals, plus the ones they are
  • 7. Instilling Fear Through Dirty Bombs Essay People often associate the word bomb with the idea of a weapon of mass destruction, but in reality fear can be a weapon in of itself. Such is the case of the dirty bomb, it is a weapon aimed at instilling fear in the local population thus making it a weapon of mass disruption. The similarities between a dirty bomband an improvised explosive device(IED) are remarkable. In our modern wars of Iraq, Afghanistan and several other theaters of operations the IED has been the weapon of choice for insurgents. They are cheap to make and can be constructed from left over explosives and shrapnel producing elements, these same qualities are shared by the dirty bombs. The primary and often overlooked effect is the fear that it instills in the groups... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gunmen overpowered the driver in the early morning hours of last Monday in Hidalgo state about 30 miles north of the capital and made off with the truck and its cargo. (Wilkinson, 2013) This event goes to show how a simple truck hijacking could have produced a large amount of materials for several dirty bombs. Fortunately in this case law enforcement acted quickly detaining the individuals and recovering the radioactive waste. The explosive component is no impossible task to attain either, gun powder from Wal Mart will do. There have been documented occurrences where the exploding component of a simple dirty bomb was comprised of traditional dynamite (King, 2004). That shows, that any terrorist organization with the least amount of motivation could easily gather the materials required to cause destruction. The ease of acquiring materials for a dirty bomb is dwarfed by the simplicity that it takes to construct the device. As mentioned earlier individuals looking to cause destruction among the local population coupled with the basic knowledge of explosives can create a device to create such a weapon. The construction of a dirty bomb can be as simple as combining an explosive component, a fuse, screws and or nails along with the radioactive material all enclosed in a case. The reason that the dirty bomb is such an imminent threat is because of the ease of making it. If terrorist wanted
  • 8. Frequency Adaptive Repetitive Control Of Grid Connected... Frequency Adaptive Repetitive Control of Grid connected Inverters Rabia Nazira,b, Keliang Zhoub, Neville R. Watsonb, Alan Woodb a Electrical Engineering Department, Lahore College for Women University Lahore, Pakistan. bElectrical and Computer Engineering Department University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. Abstract Grid connected inverters (GCI) are widely used to feed power from renewable energy distributed generators into smarter grids. Repetitive control (RC) enables such inverters to inject high quality fundamental frequency sinusoidal currents into the grid. However, digital RC which can get approximately no tracking error of any periodic signal in steady state whose period is known, cannot exactly track or reject periodic signal of frequency variations. Thus digital RC would lead to a significant power quality degradation of GCIs when grid frequency varies and causes periodic signal with non integer periods. In this research paper a repetitive control scheme capable of frequency adaptation (FARC) at a predefined sampling rate is proposed to deal with all types of periodic signal of variable frequency. A fractional delay filter which is based on Lagrange interpolation is used to estimate the fractional period terms in RC. This proposed FARC controller offers the fast during process modification of fractional delay and fast revise of filter parameters, and then provides GCIs with a simple but very accurate existent time frequency adaptive control
  • 9. Manners Are Manners Matter Manners Matter People living in this era must have had an experience of people bumping into each other, and just walking away without apologizing. Some of them are in an urgent situation and we can tolerate that there is no time to be polite but most of them, whatever they are doing, are not in a hurry. People are usually able to judge whether the rude person was in a crucial situation. It s true that it gets really frustrating to see the impolite person walk away like nothing happened when my feelings are hurt. It is becoming certain that manners and courtesies are disappearing at a rapid speed. Manners have been greatly valued and judged since the ancient times, but not anymore. People who did not keep their ways to monarchs or even to high officials were often severely punished or executed. Whenever I did something that was unmannerly, my parents punished me very harshly, usually with a long stick that I brought home with me from camping. I always regretted that I brought that stick home. Now, that I reflect on the things that I ve done to my parents, I think they made the right choice. Manners are important because they show love, gratitude, and respect toward another when practiced. They affect how we speak or act in a given situation. For example, saying thank you or please suggests that the person is feeling gratitude and respect. An individual who provided help will feel absolutely delighted and feel that is was worthwhile to give the person the help he

The new brand can be called as a sub brand , and the original brand is referred as a parent brand . There are basically two different types of brand extensions. The first one is line extension , which means to launch a new product which is under the same product category as the parent brand. It usually involves more flavours or different sizes. For example, Coca cola and Coca cherry cola. The other type is category extensions which means to launch a product in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brand Extensions can increase the establishment of the new product by guarantees of its quality, getting consumers awareness and recognition. As consumers used to remember the positive things about the parent brand, at the same time negative things will not transferred to the sub brand. So it would reduce the risk to the first time buyer. Moreover, if the company uses this brand extension correctly, it can not only increase the profit of the company, but can also improve both the sub brand and parent brand images and bring new customers into brand franchise and increase market coverage. In conclusion, it is true that when launching a new product, it is better to pursue a brand extension strategy, than to develop a new brand. Brand extension is more likely to be succeeding as it provides many advantages which describes above and also many researches found that it is easier for company to use brand extension rather than creating a new brand. • 13. The Road by Comac McCarthy In The Road, Cormac McCarthy depicts the boy as a Christ like figure that gives hope for humanity s survival. McCarthy uses several references to the bible and how it relates to the boys Christ like features or character. The bo+ y is the bright spot in the dark, cold, apocalyptic world of the novel. The first description of the boy is a clear allusion to the Godliness in him. At the beginning of the novel, the narrator describes the father s relationship to the boy. He knew only that the child was his warrant. He said: If he is not the word of God then God never spoke (5). This appears to be referring to John 1:1 in the bible, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (NIV). The man believes that if the boy does not show some resemblance to God or God s character then there is no God. The man seems to believe that the boy is perfect. Many Christians believe that the Bible which is the word of God is perfect. Since Jesuswas the messiah who had no flaws that must mean that the boy resembled the messiah in the way of character. Since the messiah provided hope for mankind the boy was depicted as the one to provide hope for the future. In the beginning of the book McCarthy describes the dark, barren, cold, godless apocalyptic world around the boy and the man. This is reminiscent of the book of Revelations in the Bible where the world is a cold desolate place with the entire population of God believing people and God in general go

The notion of extraterrestrial life is a very intriguing subject possibly for as long as mankind has looked into the vast heavens gazing at the stars. Can one say that life on Earth was done by Mother Nature which some call evolution? Is life on Earth the result of creation or alteration by a higher power or being? Some people do believe that other forms of life except those on Earth do exist. Others consider it false because there is no absolute proof beyond doubts. There have been countless occurrences by individuals around the world of either being contacted or abducted by alien life forms. Labelling Theory Throughout the course of history, criminologists have dedicated their lives to answering two fundamental questions which could potentially expose what makes individuals within society predisposed towards criminal behaviour what makes a criminal a criminal? Can anyone become criminal? However, understanding crime and criminality in itself is a relatively complex and multifaceted topic, as a vast array of theories are continually investigated, both individually and in combination, with the objective to one day answer this lingering issue. The theory therefore suggests that criminology has been given too much attention to criminals as types of people and insufficient attention to the collection of social control responses. That therefore means the law, the police, the media and the public publications helps to give crime its shape. This is supported by the conflict theory which demonstrates how deviance reflects inequalities and power. This approach holds that the causes of crime may be linked to inequalities of class, race and gender and that who or what is labelled as deviant depends on the relative power of categories of people. While social labels commonly comprise a part of the cultural framework that people draw on to define and categorize the social world, deviant labels are unique in that they are stigmatizing labels or markers this assumption is fundamental to labelling theory. • 20. The Effects Of Environmental Degradation On The Environment The human relationship to the environment has evolved over time as humans have made technological advancements and cultural changes. While some may argue that humanity is distant from nature, that could not be further from the truth. While the human relationship to nature is not the same as it may have been in the past, humans still rely on nature for their livelihood. Humans also have a strong impact on nature, and processes which occur in nature, through their actions. In the last decade, the issue of environmental degradation has become a topic of global concern and discussion. This discussion is threading together a narrative that helps the public and scholars better understand the human relationship to the environment. While this push forward in environmental agenda is a good thing, there needs to be an ongoing dialogue which allows for the understanding that environmental degradation is not only a risk to a certain biome, but all of the diversity that exists within a certain region a good example of this being Papua New Guinea. The rainforest of Papua New Guinea are incredibly rich and diverse environments; the rainforest not only houses a wide variety of plant and animal species, but is also home many indigenous groups. By examining the changes in Papua New Guinea s rainforest throughout time, a better understanding of the complex and dynamic human relationship to nature will be achieved.

This raises the question: To what extent does doubt influence the production of knowledge? Doubt influences the production of knowledge to a greater extent by presenting questions which are subsequently answered through inquiry. This is true in natural science when empirical experiments are conducted to accept or reject a hypothesis. The purpose is to develop better questions because doubt has always been present in science. Constant repeated eliminations of older theories have occurred and replaced because doubt questioned their validity. When Nicolaus Copernicus doubted the Geocentric model, he conducted his own experiments to develop the Heliocentric model that led to the development of modern astronomy. This is a strategy of skepticism presented by doubt, it senses the validity and assumes inquiry within a data or theory. This increases doubt in which increases knowledge because if one does not doubt what is already known what motivation will be present to learn more. Doubt also influences knowledge by forcing people to change their personal knowledge to shared knowledge. It questions your known knowledge and motivates one to research, leading to new knowledge that is shared. Researching for my extended essay, I did not know a lot about Psychology. • 24. Alpha Spectroscopy Is A Technique For Quantification Of... Alpha spectroscopy is a technique for quantification of alpha particles and identification of its parent radionuclide using a silicon diode semiconductor detector [Knoll, 2010]. These detectors operate in a vacuum to enable them to detect alpha particles emitted from a source without degradation of the alpha particleenergy. The alpha particles are transformed into electrical pulses which are amplified and shaped prior to conversion into a differentiated pulse height spectrum by a multichannel analyzer. The resultant spectrum is characteristic of the energy of the originally alpha particle and can therefore be used to identify the parent radionuclide [Boll et al, 1997]. This technique is excellent for differentiation of alpha emitters due to peak resolution of as high as 10 keV with typical resolution of 25 30 keV [Knoll, 2010]. The detection efficiency is relatively poor (3 20%), but because of the inherently low background of less than one count per hour in carefully controlled systems, low minimum detection concentrations are achievable [Knoll, 2010]. The method has a high sensitivity for detecting alpha emitting radionuclides. The ability to discriminate among different energy levels can be used for isotope specific measurements. If the alpha source is prepared in a proper way, there is no significant self absorption in the alpha source itself [Knoll, 2010]. The modern version of the silicon diode semiconductor detector is the passivated implanted planar silicon

The Probability of Extraterrestrial Existence Essay The Probability of Extraterrestrial Existence Frank Drake, an American astronomer made an equation to find the probability of finding aliens in our galaxy. The probability of humans finding extraterrestrial intelligence in our galaxy equals Nfpnef1fifcfL, where N equals the number of stars in the Milky Way, fp equals the fraction of those stars having planets, ne equals the number of those planets that can support life, f1 equals the number of those planets on which life arises, fi equals the fraction of those planets on which intelligent life evolves, fc equals the fraction of those planets where intelligent life developed into a technologically advanced civilization and fL equals the fraction of time a technical civilization lasts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though we know a lot about radio astronomy, the problem that is stopping the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence (better known as SETI) from finding anyone is the vastness of space. The chance of us pointing our telescopes at the right point in the universe at the right time is astronomical. The chance of aliens finding us is just as bad. If life on Alpha Centauri, the closest star to our solar system, found us and sent a message, traveling at the speed of light, we would not receive it for four and one half years. Then, it would take another four and one half years for our reply to reach them. The distances make communication while on our home worlds nearly impossible. Even if aliens came to Earth, they could have ships that cannot be found with our tracking devices. If I was an extraterrestrial, and saw the problems on Earth, I would take my ship and leave as soon as possible. I would never go near a race still killing each other over stupid things. I do not think we can start our search for extraterrestrial intelligence in earnest until we can live in harmony as humans. Most people do not realize what we are sending to outer space. Every second, we send many television signals everywhere, traveling at the speed of light, and they are strong enough to be found anywhere in space. We send so many signals, humans are polluting outer space. The first message they would receive would be of the 1936 Olympics, since that was the first television signal strong

There are three identifiable kingdom periods in Egypt. They are Old Kingdom , Middle Kingdom , and New Kingdom . Each of these kingdoms represent a high point of civilization along lower Nile Valley. Eighteenth century historians were the pioneers who used this term for the first time. The arrival of the 20th century brought with it a change in the policing environment from the spoils system of earlier days to a more inclusive environment for female and minority presence within officer ranks. Some of the problems that law enforcement agencies of the more recent times will have with attracting females and minorities into law enforcement agency careers comes from outside of the agencies, but the most important determining problems can come from within those agencies themselves such as fear of the race and gender discrimination from the likes of employers and co workers that makes females and minorities reluctant to join law enforcement agencies. The more highly televised incidents of the police brutality such as the Rodney King beating, Abner Louima torturing, and other abuse of force incidents make it very important

Furthermore, the unmatched strategy of pricing marks Louis Vuitton less manageable and induces relations of rarity. Consequently, in case of operations of Louis Vuitton in Hungary, it is cautious not to danger its brand image with money deductions, but they should adapt to the given market situation of the country in order to reach success. We as humans are irrelevant specks in the vast universe that go about our repetitive lives for no apparent reason. At the end of the day, it makes no difference how much good or bad we do in the world. This is the ignorant view of the world that fails to see the perfect harmony in which we all live our lives. The redundant cycles that we try so hard to get away from are part of our overarching connectedness as humans. As parts of a whole, all of us have a role to play in making our lives better for ourselves and others. Our role is the very meaning of life, and we should embrace it wholeheartedly. The novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse stresses this cyclical unification through various circular constructions throughout Siddhartha s life. Siddhartha had to deal with many individual stages of his life that seemed pointless. These cycles almost drove him to the point of suicide, but he was saved by the river which acted as a symbol for his entire life, as a united whole. This was the gateway to his attainment of enlightenment, allowing him to feel closer to everyone around him. Siddhartha began as an affluent Brahmin s son, coveted by all close to him. His family and friends greatly admired the level of intuition and intellect that Siddhartha had possessed. Govinda, his best friend, constantly adored him and followed in his footsteps. In this life, Siddhartha began the

The Indian Removal act of 1830 authorized President Jackson to carry out the policy in his first message to congress. He would be able to trade unorganized public land in the trans Mississippi west for indian land in the east. The law required the government to negotiate removal treaties fairly and peacefully: It did not allow the president or anyone else to coerce Native nations into giving up their land. However, President Jackson and his government most commonly ignored the letter of the law and forced Native Americans to vacate lands they had lived on for generations. As white settlers continued to settle North America and push west there were numerous conflicts with native american tribes. Andrew Jackson s policy, the indian removal act, intensified this conflict. When jackson ignored the compromise established in

Throughout history, a plethora of leaders with different views have been successful for many different kinds of societies. Depending on what the society needs, rulers change their ways as well as do what they can for the good of their people. In Platos The Republic, the character Socrates argues with his peers about what makes the perfect society, as well as the perfect leader. According to Plato, the wisest choice for a ruler in a near perfect society is a philosopher, containing multiple important attributes. A wide variety of characteristics are covered, yet Plato seems to focus in on several key foundations. Plato s views on essential traits of a philosopher focus on the necessity of truthand thirst for knowledge . Perhaps the most important trait of a philosopher is the ability to learn. This trait is important because if it pains a philosopher to learn, they can t be expected to enjoy it or have much success (486 c). The idea of constantly wanting more knowledge is abundant. Plato often states that a yearning for knowledge will come at a young age, and that it won t be easy (485 d). Searching for knowledge is a lifelong commitment that takes dedication and persistence. He also gives a counter example while talking about the timarchic character as well as the oligarchic society. Due to an imperfect education, the timarchic leader will have inner conflict when it

He writes in The Prince: For one can say this generally of men: that they are ungrateful, fickle, pretenders and dissemblers, evaders of danger, eager for gain.3 Clearly, Machiavelli argues that man is precarious a being of dubious morals and selfish desires. Hobbes agreed with this analysis, and took it one step further. According to Hobbes, all mankind has a restless and perpetual desire for power, which ceaseth only with death 4. Moreover, man can never be satisfied with the power he has. Hobbes writes: ... [man] cannot assure the power and the means to live well, which he hath present, without the acquisition of more [power]. Man s first need is to provide security for himself. Past experience and reason dictate that he will do this by any means necessary even if it means killing everyone around him.
