Nineteenth-Century Oil Industry
In the nineteenth century, there was an emergence and massive upbringing of new developments, a
rise of business enterprise, and future successful entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs such as John D.
Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and J. Pierpont Morgan all became three of the major leading icons
for business and economic growth. They helped establish global markets and vast resources that
became very dominant during that time period. These resources included oil, steel, and the increase
of investment firms that changed the economy, and helped promote agricultural and industrial
power after the Civil War. The Standard Oil Company was one of the first leading developments
that dominated the oil industry during the 1800s. John D. Rockefellerhad organized

Improving Access For Voluntary Family Planning
More than 200 million women in developing countries who want to avoid or delay pregnancy are
not using family planning. These women have an unmet need that can result in unintended
pregnancies, unsafe abortions, poor health, and strains on families and economies. Improving
access to voluntary family planning could mitigate these challenges and lead to a host of other
benefits. (Source 22, 23, 25).
Given the potential of family planning for far reaching health, development, and economic gains,
governments and their development partners should consider strengthening efforts and looking for
new ways to increase the uptake and quality of family planning services.
To this effect, the main program approaches that led to increases in contraceptive use included
development approaches and supply side interventions. This attention to rigor of family planning
evaluations will increase accountability, improve program decision making, and in the end, improve
maternal and infant health outcomes. (Source 12)
As revealed in various reports both demand and supply side interventions were found to be
generally successful in increasing knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and discussions around family
planning as well as increasing contraceptive use. These impacts are often a result of programs that
have taken into account the importance of various approaches to reaching women and couples with
family planning products and services, providing quality information and service delivery,

The Greenhouse Effect On The World
Introduction
Most people around the world do not fully understand the meaning of the greenhouse effect, or the
affects the greenhouse effect has on the world. In fact, many believe that the greenhouse effect is
simply contributes to global warming, and that it has no real value to the earth. But what many are
not aware of it that the greenhouse effect is the planet s natural way of obtaining a specific
temperature in which living organisms can survive. Many people are not aware of the
consequences that our way of life has on the planet, and soon, with the help of global warming, we
will all understand.
Greenhouse gasses There are three main greenhouse gases that play a large role in keeping our
planet at a stable temperature; carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Other gases produced
are troposheric ozone, CFC 12, HCFC 22, and sulfur hexafluoride. The greenhouse effect used to
have no legitimate harm on earth, but, humans have been the reason for the increase in these
greenhouse gases, therefore creating what we know today as; global warming. Without these
greenhouse gases, the earth would be so incredibly cold that no living entity could survive.
Importance of the Greenhouse Effect Because the greenhouse effect is usually only discussed in the
context of global warming, this natural process is neglected to be appreciated for its vital role in
the planet. Without having the greenhouse effect, there would be no weather on Earth. All of the
greenhouse gases

Lipase Lab Report
The enzyme lipase, is present in one s body, specifically found in an individual s pancreas, mouth,
and stomach. Lipase uses separate fats to break down any consumed foods, so that they can
proceed and be absorbed in the intestines. The body typically produces lipase naturally but in some
cases, people may need to use lipase supplements to assist them in digesting food. The test to
measure the lipase enzymelevels in your body is sometimes known as serum lipase. This test
measures the amount of lipase in your blood.
Lipase, like previously mentioned, is an enzyme found in your body. Because the average body

Pastoral Succession Planning Paper
1.Resign/Retire/Release When It s Time The succession plan is in place to prepare the
congregation for life after its current leader. It is vital to the health of an organization for leaders to
know when to retire, resign, or otherwise step aside. Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, David
and Solomon provide three great narratives for succession. If churches would consider the examples
set forth here and in the texts referenced throughout this chapter, they may be able to more
successfully pass the baton to the next leader and decrease the failure rate of churches in
transition.CHAPTER THREE THE PROJECT To better understand current thoughts and trends in
pastoral succession planning, I first developed a questionnaire for surveying pastors and churches.
The questionnaire, which was exclusively for senior pastors, was produced in both paper and
electronic form. The electronic version of the questionnaire was distributed through the website

Taco Bell Analysis
You know that moment someone says Let s go get Burger King!
Yeah, me neither. If you don t like Taco Bell, you re wrong. From Cinnabon delights to ooey
gooey cheesy bites; Taco Bell has it all. (And I m not talking about just their food!) Here are four
reasons why Taco Bell can replace your significant other.
#1: Free Tacos? I think yes.
According to spaceref article, Free Tacos for U.S. If Mir Hits Floating TacoBell Ocean Target The
author states, Taco Bellis offering a free taco to everyone in the United States if the core of the Mir
space station hits a floating Taco Bell target placed in the South Pacific. In March 2001 Taco
Bell painted their logo in the middle of the 40x40 foot flotation device, surrounded by target
rings and Free Taco Here painted in big purple letters. If the Mir would have hit the target,
coupon distribution, redemption and offer details would have been made available to consumers
on the Taco Bell Web site. Taco Bell has purchased an insurance policy to cover the anticipated
cost of the free taco redemption if the core of Mir would have hit the target. Sadly the Mir landed
off course near Chile and America was devastated.
If your significant other wouldn t offer everyone in America a free taco then who else will?

Lagothrix and Ateles belzebuth Primates have been around for as long as we can remember and
throughout time they have been classified in specific groups depending on their order and family.
These classifications have given people the opportunity to study primates more in depth according
to their demography, diet and social system by comparing them to one another. Spider monkeys and
Woolly monkeys have branched out from the New world group. But most importantly there are
other categories of monkey s within the spider and woolly monkey s that have given us a deeper
understanding of primates and their natural lives. In particular, the Lagothrix and Ateles belzebuth.
Although, both the Lagothrix and the Ateles Belzebuth monkey s land under the New World
category their behavioral strategies are different.
Life History:
They both come from the subfamily Atelinae. Woolly monkey and the spider monkey are found in
South America. The A. belzebuth are most likely to be found in the northeastern portion of the
Amazonian in South America (Eisenberg, 1989; Emmons, 1997). They tend to live in the upper
levels of tall forests and can be found at a maximum elevation of 1,800 meter. On the other hand,
Lagothrix is mostly found in the Neotropics of northern South America up the Magdalena River

How Did France Win The Hundred Years War
The Hundred Years War was a war between England and France over rights to land, the
succession of the French throne and economic conflicts. The war took place over such a large
period of time because there were several different battles over different pieces of land. Also
loyal to either the French and the English changed throughout the duration of the war as well.
Both sides possessed different advantages that help them win certain battles but eventually the
French would prevail. The Hundred Years War was fought for three main reasons: land, power
and money. The fight over land and power go hand and hand because in order to have the land
you needed power. There was a debate over who would be the next king when King Charles IV
died because he had no sons to take over the throne. The closest male relative he had was his
nephew, Edward III of England, but the nobles were not fond of his parent therefore he was unable
to inherit he throne. Many English believe Edward was unjustly denied the right to the throne.
Instead his first cousin, Philip VI, was crowned. King Philip sparked conflict between England and
Francewhen he took away the Duchy Aquitaine and gave France full jurisdiction of the Duchy of
Aquitaine. This angered the English king because this was a direct violation of the Treaty of Paris.

The town of Pullman began to quickly populate as an industrial and residential center. Pullman s
intention of improving living conditions was an immediate success. Outside visitors frequently
commented on the clean streets, beautiful foliage and newly erected tenements and houses. They
were more spacious and comfortable than those of the inner city. However, it must be noted that
even though the new residences were quite remarkable they could not be purchased. Instead, they
were rented out to Pullman in advance who received a reasonable 6 percent profit. Many
historians believe that the inability to own property was one of the main flaws of Pullman. The
average length of residence in 1892 was four and a quarter years. Many residents later purchased
homes in neighboring towns. Asked why he had bought a home, an ex resident answered that he
felt a greater freedom in his own place. The company did nothing to stop the residents from moving
out. It was their belief that the town s moral environment had prepared the men for the symbol of
middle class respectability. The behavior of the workingmen showed a

Dr. Seuss-the Butter Battle Book Analysis
9/16/12 The works of Dr. Seuss have for so long accompanied children growing up, whether it be

wonderful rhyming imagery. But in our childhood years, who knew he had an underlying meaning
that meant so much more? As a young adult today, I am now cognizant of Dr. Seusshidden agenda
and vow to implore this man s exertions of bringing awareness to the problems America was facing
not only nationally, but globally as well. In Dr. Seuss book, The Butter Battle Book, he attempts to

For example, in the second to last stanza, it says, Drop this bomb on the Zooks just as fast as you
can. I have ordered all Yooks to stay safe underground while the Bitsy Big Boy Boomeroo is
around, meaning that the Yooks themselves, know just how hazardous and on edge the situation
is getting, yet they refuse to back down. In addition, in the last stanza, old Vanltch is saying, I ll
blow you into pork and wee beans! I ll butter side up you to small smithereens! emphasizing just
how strong his weapon was and that the Yooks should be afraid, very afraid. It may seem as
though Seuss is being a wee bit dramatic, but he is only delivering the cold, hard truth that a
situation like this was happening in the real world (the Nuclear Arms Race) and that we should all
take notice and try to appease it.
In the story, the nephew accompanies his grandfather to the wall in order to witness the ordeal
and the grandfather even thinks it s a good idea because this way he can witness history in the
making although neither may live to tell the story. Dr. Seuss was delivering another symbol of
how both Russia and the United States were not thinking of the safety of their own people if one
country was to drop their bomb on the other. Their only form of protection was to retaliate with
their own bomb.

Facial Stereotypes
There are mathematical equations, such as the golden ratio, which can be used to supposedly
create the ideal human body. This proportion was used by Da Vinci to draw the perfect male
body. An individual is said to have a beautiful face when it has a ratio of 1.6180339, or
approximately 1.62. Facial symmetry can be measured by dividing the length of a face by the
width of the widest part of the face; the closer quotient is 1.62 the more beautiful a face is
according to the golden ratio. The golden ratio can also be used on various other parts of the body
including; arm length, and height. Facial characteristics also play a role in determining an
individual s attractiveness. The color smoothness of an individuals skinhas an impact on their...

Summary of the books of the Old Testament Books
Numbers
The book of Numbers is mostly law, with some narrative. The key theme for this book is how the
post Exodus Israelites journeyed to the Promised Land. Despite God s provisions for their well
being, they were not thankful and doubted God. Their doubt and ungratefulness led to punishment
by God. As a result of their lack of faith, they would spend 40 years wandering in the desert,
teaching and preparing the second generation of Israelites of God s promise and provision. The
people of Israel were also numbered, as ordered by God in this book of the Bible. Numbers starts at

what a king would mean to them, yet they still wanted one. Saul was anointed the first King of
Israel. Saul did well at first, but started to make mistakes for which he did not repent for; his
actions and disobedience, namely consulting a medium, lead God to choose another to be king.
Saul was no longer blessed. He slowly went mad by the taunting of an evil spirit and ultimately
committed suicide.
Ecclesiastes
Ecclesiastes is a book of wisdom in the bible. The writer of Ecclesiastes, believed to be Solomon,
after living life, making mistakes, endeavors to answer the question, What is the purpose of
living? The author describes his earthly escapades with power and pleasure. He finds no
satisfaction in these things. While a young man he drank and caroused. He explored all the
decadence that worldly life offered. He found no fulfillment in any of these things or in life itself.
He pursued wisdom, a never ending quest. He came to the conclusion that the answer to living this
life, lies outside our daily lives, which he calls daily vanities of life. Through fearing God he
believed we truly find meaning in this life. He also examines human existence on a whole.
Eventually Solomon surmises that in the absence of God there is nothing true, nothing good; life
has no meaning. He counsels

The marketing strategy of the CMF launch on the U.S. market was well planned. A celebrity Emily
Procter was invited to make advertising. According to Hofstede s typology, the U.S. belong to an
individualistic culture and Emily Procter was known for her individual success, the consumers
were expected to follow her. As individuals are concerned primarily with their own interests and are
concentrated on good appearance, fresh breath and white teeth are important components of their
attractiveness. U.S. also belong to a masculine culture where material success and assertiveness are
of great value (which Emily Procter communicates).
The packaging was thought out properly: liquid bottle form with mini breath strips clearly visible

sensory appeal provides novelty, variety, and sensory gratification . CMF embodied this image.

Informative Essay On Sun Exposure
Sun exposure is an inevitable thing, however, it is something our body needs. In today s society
being tan is seen as a fad. Tanning is the process of darkening the skin by sun exposure. Most
people want to be tan and go tanning frequently whether actually sitting out in the sun, going to the
tanning bed, or even getting a spray tan. Sunexposure is a good thing, however, too much exposure
can have not so great effects on your body. Sun exposure is very important for the body because it
is how the body gets vitamin D. Vitamin D actually classifies loosely as a hormone. When you are
getting exposure to the sun, the ultravioletrays shine on your skin triggering vitamin D synthesis.
Then the precursor compound in skin cells is transported by... Show more content on

Proposal For Changes to the Sustainment Pre-Command Course...
The Mission of the Army Logistics Management College (ALMC), now referred to as the Army
Logistics University (ALU) at Fort Lee, VA is to enhance the readiness and sustainability of United
States Forces through training, education, consulting and research in Logistics, Acquisition and
Operations Research Systems Analysis. In joint with the ALU, the Sustainment Center of
Excellence (SCoE) runs eight different versions of battalion and brigade level pre command
branch or technically focused courses. Five of them are conducted at ALU; one of those five
course that ALU is responsible for offering is the resident 2 week Sustainment Pre Command

This is due to various organizational shifts, as the design of the courses change every time a new
General takes command at Fort Lee and decisions based on lackluster after action reviews (AAR).
The POI for the SPCC does not reflect the change in scheduled location and needs to be updated,
therefore, a broad spectrum POI should be created and recommendations should be made in order
to gain more positive AARs. Project Description In support of my capstone project, I assessed and
will submit a redesigned proposal with developmental recommendations for reformation of a solid
POI for the SPCC that takes place at the Army Logistics University. In this, I have identified the
foremost purpose for this redesign as the following: The investment in the education and training of
rising leadership is vital to the long term success of our sustainment support staff and the services
provided. With this course providing training in modular force operations for newly selected
command designees that enables them to function effectively throughout their command tour it is
very important to make sure that the training is substantive. Therefore the main focus is to assure
that training is current and emerging sustainment doctrine and leadership topics for commanders on
the National Guard, Reservist and Active Duty levels is most essential. The target audience of this
redesign includes commissioned officers in grades 0 5 (Lieutenant Colonel) or 0 6

The Necessity Defense in the Killing of an Innocent Third...
1 Introduction
The general defence of necessity has long been disputed. The South African and English legal
systems are intrinsically opposite, and neither seem to escape controversy. These systems differ
greatly on the legal subject of defence of necessity in the context of killing an innocent third party.
The legal aspects of this defence, as well as accompanying problems which may arise, will be
briefly discussed in terms of the South African as well as the English law. Utilitarianism and
Kantianism will be used to analyse specific case law that made an enormous contribution to the
legal dispute regarding necessity.
2 Necessity
Necessity can be described as the voluntary conscious decision to break the law in order for a lesser

According to this Constitution, every person has the right to life and the right to equality. With a
successful defence of necessity for the murder of an innocent person, these basic human rights
would be infringed upon, which is legally unacceptable. Thus, a case should fail when using the
defence of necessity for the murder of an innocent person.
2 2 English Law
The United Kingdom has no constitution, which is why English law can only be found in the
common law of the United Kingdom. This common law does not regard the general defence of
necessity as a justification, but rather as an excuse to a crime which is then classified as duress,
and it does not recognise the defence of necessity to any murder. The English law, to my opinion,
is still quite unclear as to whether or not the ground of justification of necessity, as to the
unlawfulness of a crime, is accepted or not. The reason for this is because quite a clear position
had been taken up by the courts in the United Kingdom regarding this matter, until the recent case
of the conjoined twins, which led to a dispute in the English law as to the ground of justification of
necessity.
2 3 Case Law
Seen as S v Goliath, R v Dudley and Stephens, and the conjoined twins cases have all set out the
legal precedent to which two countries are to be governed by, they will be briefly discussed by
using the analogy of Utilitarianism as well as Kantianism. The basic premise of utilitarianism is

Analysis Of Saskia Sassen, A Leading Globalization Scholar
Saskia Sassen argues that for one to understand the contemporary globalization, it is crucial for an
individual to examine how the historical assemblages of authority, territory and right have been
remade and reworked on. (Sassen, 2006) The ideas of Saskia Sassen, a leading globalization scholar,
are helpful in the analysis of the debate about the movement of refugees in the wake of the Paris
attacks. Saskia stipulates that something really big is happening behind globalization. (Sassen,
2006) She is interested at the point where globalization gets messy. Although globalization is good
for the economy, there are other things that get associated with it eliciting a debate on the opening
and closing borders for the refugees in the wake of Paris attack. As the states are trying to
implement the cross border policies, whether they are as a result of the international human rights
regimes or the global economic system, they have undergone some vital transformations since this
kind of accommodation requires negotiation. For the global economy, this particular negotiation
involves developments inside the national states and entails legislative acts, executive orders, court
rulings and policy making mechanisms. Citizenship, the fundamental institution that qualifies one
to be a member of a nation, is being destabilized partly by the present developments connected with
globalization. Certain major transformations are taking place in the today s world due to the effects

Assessment 1: Event Analysis
Reserve Grade, Local Australian Rules Football Match in the Eastern Football League
Blackburn Football Club v Balwyn Football Club
5/4/2014
Introduction
Australians are renowned for their passion for sport, in particular, the four main football codes
(Australian Rules football, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Soccer). In terms of the participation
rate among these four codes, Australian Rules Football ranks second behind outdoor soccer, with
419 000 individuals or 2.6 % of the population participating in the sport. (Australian Bureau of
Statistics 2009)
The majority of the individuals who participate in Australian rules football, participate at the local
level, as Australia adopts a community club based system for all sports. This ensures that
everyone that has a desire to partake is very much able to at a local level which includes clubs like
the Blackburn and Balwyn Football Clubs. (Shilbury, Deane, Kellett 2006, p. 19)
Thus, the purpose of this report is to analyse different aspects and contributions to a local game of
Australian Rule Football, to determine areas of praise and improvement.

The Pride And Joy Of The Family
They ve always called me superstitious, even mad. They ve always called the happening a
coincedence. But I know better and so does Uncle Van, if he is still alive. It occured late at night.
Not a particularly blustery, terrifying, or paralyzing night. On the contrary, it was rather ordinary,
with a light dusting of snow on the pavement. After a round of holiday excursions, an uneventful
evening with just the family(such as it was) was quite welcome, though others might have called it
depressing. We were all gathered around the fire, on the last night of the old year. Julie, the
veritable pride and joy of the family, was there, and so were my father and mother, little Ross,
and a small army of aunts, uncles, and cousins. And then of course, there was Uncle Van. Uncle
Van was semi legendary in the family. Nobody knew much about him. Why he had shown up at
all was a mystery in itself. He looked quite young, but he was old. No one knew how old. His hair
was graying only at the edges, and he step was brisk and lively. His age was only betrayed in his
old, old, eyes. Uncle Van possessed a certain genius for storytelling. I confess that I had spent
many of the previous weeks making eyes at Julie, who had come to stay for the holidays. But for
hours, Uncle Van had held us under a spell, and we sat as wide eyed and open mouthed as any naive
babe and listened to the tales of myth, mystery, and magic that he told us. Even to this day, I

What Is The Lucky Lady Charm Essay
As part of Novomatic s Novoline series of pokies, Lucky Lady Charm takes its place amount
other Novomatic classics such as Dolphins Pearl and Sizzling Hot. For many years now, the
company has employed a tactic and formula that seems to keep churning out pokies that work for
the player. It s not a bad idea to have a somewhat standard game format that allows the company to
simply swap out one theme for another. It s worth noting that the Lucky Lady Charm pokie was
successful enough to warrant a sequel titled Lucky Lady Charm Deluxe.
Without being too critical of Novomatic, players should approach the Lucky Lady Charm casino

Analysis Of The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
Travelling to the year 802,701 presents a world where human intelligence has declined and species
have simplified. The time traveller recounts his experiences in this changed world. The two
species, the Eloi and the Morlocks, represent the way humans from Wells s time have evolved. In
H.G. Wells s renowned book, The Time Machine, Wells conveys his ideas of the future of mankind
while simultaneously critiquing his own Victorian society through his skillful use of precise
diction and intense descriptions. As a means for Wells to convey his ideas, he tells the story
through his character, the time traveller, who gains credibility and frames the main story of the
book. Early on, Wells establishes that the time traveller was one of those men... Show more content

He explains that he had travelled time and after dinner, he begins the story: I don t mind telling
you the story, but I can t argue... Most of it will sound like lying. So be it! It s true every word of

into his story, Wells puts precision in the unessential and vagueness in the essential... and
conveys admirably the just amount of conviction (Bergonzi 191). His art with description
immerses the reader completely into this unbelievable, yet completely plausible story. By
establishing the time traveller as a credible man and having the story told through the credible
character, Wells concretely conveys his ideas of the future and, eventually, his critiques on his
era s society. The time traveller s story begins upon his arrival to the year of 802,701A.D., where
he instantly begins speculating theories about the future world. My general impression of the
world I saw... was of a tangled waste of beautiful bushes and flowers... Nevertheless, the general
effect was extremely rich and picturesque (Wells 23). Wells describes the future world as a
tangled waste of beauty, foreshadowing the decline of society as a whole that he discusses later.
As his story progresses, the time traveller continues to use great detail and precise word choice to
convey specific deeper meanings along with each part of his adventure.

Soviet Union s Presence in Eastern Europe Essay
Soviet Union s Presence in Eastern Europe
This paper will introduce the development of Soviet internationalism alongside the development of
Soviet interests in Eastern Europe. It will be argued that the Soviet interests which developed out of
the Wars became fixed alongside the ideology behind internationalism. The legacy of Stalinism
influenced the development of Soviet policy toward Eastern Europe and Soviet internationalism and
the Cold war meant that the Soviet presence in Eastern Europe would persist until Gorbachev. The
Soviets could not consider withdrawing from Eastern Europe so long as they were governed by an
ideology which viewed the world as two distinct and opposing camps.

Stalin s eyes turned toward Eastern Europe and through his dissolution of the Comintern he
sought to make unthreatening appeals to a common Slavic identity. According to D Encausse,
The may 15, 1943, decision to dissolve the Comintern which suggested a definitive retreat by the
USSR to within its own borders, in fact signified a more dynamic opening to the external world

Soviet intentions became clearer when the iron curtain was realised at Yalta and at Potsdam.
However, Stalin did not wish to move the Soviet Union into Europe, he wished to isolate Eastern
Europe outside of Western influence and under the control of the Soviet powers based in Moscow.
Stalin s aims in Eastern Europe epitomise Soviet aims because of the fact that his policies set the
tone for Soviet policy toward Eastern Europe and his policies were still influencing Soviet Society
when Gorbachev came to power. His alienation of Eastern Europe from the West was both
ideological and practical in nature. Stalin wished to undermine Slavic western sentiments and

The State Of New Mexico Essay
The state of New Mexico defines murder in the first degree as the killing of one person by
another without a lawful justification or excuse. Any action resulting in death, which can be
proven to have been willful, deliberate and premeditated; committed during the commission or
attempt to commit a felony; or by an act so dangerous to the lives of others that it indicates a
depraved mind and disregard for human life, is a capital felony (NM Stat В§ 30 2 1). Currently,
capital felonies are subject to a sentence of life imprisonment, or a true life imprisonment
sentence which provides no option for release or parole (NM Stat В§ 31 18 14). However, from
1979 to 2009, New Mexico carried a harsher set of punishments for first degree murder; life in
prison with the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.
Terry Clark was the only prisoner on death row to be executed before the penalty repeal in 2009.
In 1987, a jury found Clark guilty after hearing gruesome testimony that he abducted, raped, and
shot his young victim three times in the head before he buried her body in a shallow grave on his
brother s ranch. Unsurprisingly, Clark filed an appeal with the New Mexico Supreme Court after
the lower court s ruling and sentencing. In State v. Clark, 772 P.2d 322 (1989), the court carefully
considered Clarks many claims of trial misconduct.
Clark originally entered a guilty plea after his defense counsel informed him that his death sentence

is the process of analyzing and comparing one s business processes and performance measurement

The Gods Of Classical Mythology
Greco Roman mythology permeates our culture. The primitive belief set based around deities who
represent natural elements has been the foundation for everything from psychology to poetry. It is
nearly impossible to go a day in Western Culture without hearing a reference or allusion to classical
mythology. From corporate logos to clichГ©s, mythologyis all around us. Although most of us no
longer worship the sunor the sea as divine, part of the reason why mythology remains so prominent
today is its attempt to explain our position in relation to the divine, to elements of the natural world.

The study of myth has evolved alongside theories of Greco Roman society, and it is hard for the
modern reader to read myths without imposing their own ideas on them. Most likely this has
happened for as long as we have been studying mythology, and this has an impact on how we look
at myths today. For example, our book talks about homosexuality and feminism as they relate to
classical mythology. These ideas and topics were undoubtedly thought of in a totally different way
than they are today.
As cultures and ideas change, the reading and analysis of myths will unavoidably change with
them. To add to the complexities, there is not much historical record of the true role of women or
homosexuality in Greek or Roman societies. Because women and same sex coupling appear
frequently, we end up speculating about how the creators of myths intended these subjects to be
understood. Because of that speculation, it seems impossible that every reader will have the same
reading. Just like the myths changed as they were handed down, it seems that the way the myths
are viewed and read will change too.
It is also important to keep in mind that there are numerous, sometimes countless, variations of a
single myth. Gods and goddesses traveled and migrated with populations and through generations.

Snow Goose Overpopulation
The Overpopulation of the Snow Goose in North America
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore available research on the overpopulation of the Snow Goose
on the North American continent. The snow goose has been rising in population since the middle
of the century and has been escalating so much it is destroying their natural habitat. Wildlife
managers have just recently begun to implement strategies to combat this problem. Mainly through
the use of hunters the managers are trying to curb the population growth.
Introduction
There are three main species of Snow Goose of primary concern. The Lesser Snow Goose (LSGO)
is the must abundant and at the same time most troublesome. Ross Goose (ROGO) is very similar

Hunting of the Greater Snow Goose was banned in the us from 1931 75 (Abraham and Jeffries
1998). Hunting was not allowed to promote population numbers, and once started in 1975 did
not have a high harvest. The LSGO and ROGO starting in the middle of the 60 s and continually
have extended their nesting range south into less extreme climate (Abraham and Jeffries 1998).
It has also been suggested that since birds are now living longer the older adults are now leading
the less wary young to safer sites and out of hunter s range (Ingstrup 1998). Ingstrup also suggests
that the artic may be warming and as Abraham and Jeffries cited there has been shown a
correlation between the snow melt and survival of nesting birds and their young. According to
Hodge the annual kill by hunters in 1970 neared 40% but in 1994 the rate had dropped to less than
8%. Thus allowing a great deal of the adult population to return to nesting sites in the spring.
Impact on habitat
The snow geese still nest in a primarily salt marsh environment. The geese have a detrimental
feeding behavior in which they pull up the marsh grass by the roots. This behavior is know as
grubbing and when done in mass quantities can destroy whole marshes for decades. A project

culture, how sometimes religion isn t able to accept love over differences. Bruce writes about the
major conflicts in Muslim culture when it comes to love. He portrays the story of trying to build a
bridge over two different lovers from different cultures and the hardships of doing so.
In one of the lines of his song he writes, Neath Allah s blessed rain we remain worlds apart, the
line itself shows how hard it is to remain together under Allah. Bruce describes trying to love a
Muslim woman and mentioning how it feels as they remain, Worlds Apart. The exaggeration in
this shows the vast extent of the conflicts between love and Muslim culture. Bruce is unable to be
with the woman he loves as her religion cannot accept his love. Unable to be together due to
someone s lifestyle makes us see the bigger picture, of how loving someone from a different
religion has turned into a crime.
Another line in which shows us the conflict between love and Muslim culture is when Bruce
mentions May the living let us in before the dead tear us apart. Bruce s plea in this line shows us
the great extent, of the problem between love and Muslim culture. The line itself shows the
desperation of being accepted by people before having others come and tear them apart. Bruce
makes it seem as if love has become completely forbidden due to the differences. The usage of the
line, the dead tear us apart, show how even the dead people who aren t living are capable of
tearing two living beings from each other.
In another line, bruce mentions, But when I look into your eyes we remain worlds apart. Bruce
s constant repetition of the words Worlds apart , enables us as the reader to see precisely how
clashing Muslim religion and love can be. Our belief and religion can often change how we act or
dress and even change how we associate ourselves with others. Love is a feeling we

Greek Heroes Atlanta And Daedalus
Introduction (100 words)
Write a brief paragraph introducing your 4 heroes.
(The text box will expand as you type more text into it.)
I chose the Greek heroes Atlanta and Daedalus to compare with two Modern day Superheroes
called Wonder Woman and Robin. Atlanta was seen as a hero because she was the only girl hunter
to stand equal to the best male hunters. Daedalus was a hero because he was the craftsman who
created the Labyrinth to keep the Minotaur captive. Wonder Woman was seen as a hero because
she was seen as having great leadership skills, Intelligence and Battle strategies. Robin was seen as
a hero because he was the sidekick for the DC Superhero called Batman and together they fought
crime.

Using evidence from your template, explain why the Ancient Greeks needed heroes as part of their
daily lives.
Ancient Greeks needed Super Heroes because they represent hope, they are seen as higher models
because of their behaviour. A Lot of younger people look up to them for things that could benefit
them and also adults could look up to them for things that could be useful for them. For them these
things could influence any age group s.

Examples Of Greed In The Hobbit
After the armistice in 1918, Ronald Tolkien had already been applying to various academic jobs.
He successfully claimed a job working in the Oxford dictionary, and then as a Professor at the
University of Leeds. Finally, he applied to Oxford University and became Professor Tolkien of the
Rawlinson and Bosworth Professorship of Anglo Saxon. At Oxford, he would write scholarly
publications, but otherwise, his life at the schoolwas quite unremarkable. Despite, the unremarkable
life of the Professor, Oxford was a second home to him as his studies built upon his image of a
middle earth. For example, in the university, he had formed a group called The Inklings that
critiqued each other s writings. In this group, Tolkien met CS Lewis and aided... Show more content

When Tolkien had been a young boy in South Africa he had seen a particularly hairy spider that
has become a recurrent theme within his books. In the Hobbit, this spider is reiterated as the
hairy beasts that capture the dwarves. The spider s defeat are also the first show of heroism that
Bilbo accomplishes. Furthermore, the book explores the idea of greed and what occurs due to
the evil of this will. Smaug, a dragon is obsessed with collecting gold and treasure forcing the
dwarves from their kingdom who had been ruled over by a leader also filled with the love of
wealth. The dwarves, who appear to have good intentions in winning back their own gold, take
up arms to defeat Smaug. Although, once the dwarves finally receive the wealth of the dwarvish
kingdom, Thorin grows in greed and refusing to distribute the gold as once had been agreed
upon. Furthermore, he refuses to pay back Lake Town, a land once wealthy as a primary trading
area, as the dragon Smaug had fled the castle and laid destruction on the town. This greed iterates
the Christian belief that material goods lead to greed and how pursuits of material gain lead to
corruption. JRR Tolkien s faith played a role in deciding the evil in middle

Jhumpa Lahiri is an Indian American author who likes to write mainly about the experiences of
other Indian Americans. She is a very successful author. She won the Pulitzer Prize for her first
novel and her fiction appears in The New Yorker often. One of those works from 1998 is a short
story, A Temporary Matter , about a husband and a wife, Shukumar and Shoba, whose electricity
will be temporarily cut off for one hour for five days. This seems simple enough, but as you read the
story you find that maybe it s their marriage that might be the temporary matter itself. The title is
interesting from the beginning. It gives us hints about the setting, the characters and their situation,
as well as plants the whole theme of the story. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You immediately catch on that this is a big part in why they are having marital problems; they
are both extremely overwhelmed with grief. Shukumar is so overwhelmed that he seldom
leaves the house whereas Shoba is so overwhelmed but stays away from the house as much as
she can. The house reminds her of her loss. Shukumar even says that she treats the house as if it
s a hotel and that she began putting in extra hours at work . Shukumar and Shoba s grief have
led them to withdrawing from one another. Until the nightly power outages, they avoided each
other as much as possible. Shukumar even stays in the room he knows Shoba doesn t want
anywhere near because the baby s crib was once there. Symbolism can be seen in the power
outages. When the power is off, Shukumar and Shoba become intimate and share things with
one another. The darkness represents their safe place and the relationship they once shared
before the loss of their child. But as the title explains, this is only temporary . The power outages
will only happen over a period of five days and after that everything will go back to the way it
was. The loss of the baby symbolizes the turning point for their marriage. After the loss of their
child, things quickly began to change. We know this because Shukumar is constantly reminiscing
and going back to how his wife once looked or how she once cooked. A Temporary Matter ,

The Levels Of Social Work
Micro level social work involves working with individuals, whereas, macro level social work
involves improving conditions on a larger scale, for groups of people such as a community. The
levels of social work practice are not only related, but they influence each other and often display
characteristics of a cause and effect relationship. This essay will explain how the levels of social
workpractice influence each other, followed by examples of this influence, particularly focusing
on attachment theory. In conclusion, this essay will demonstrate how the relationship between
the social work levels of practice can affect a social worker s ability to stay in compliance with
the social work code of ethics. Macro level social work is comprised of the individuals that are
treated on the micro level. The evidence based practices are the most widely used techniques on
the micro level and they became evidence based because those practices had the highest success
rates from the greatest number of people on a macro level. During the class lecture, Bret argued
that governmental and work policies on the macro level can have an effect on individuals or
individual families. Alternatively, micro theories can lead to macro policies.
An example mentioned in class lecture was the fact that the United States is largely driven by
attachment theory. This was a Freudian based theory developed to help understand orphans post
World War II. This micro level theory ignored all other

Depression In The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath
Numerous people suffer from depression at some point in their lives. Some cases are more
temporary, while others last longer. Author Sylvia Plath, who suffered from depression, wrote an
autobiographical novel entitled The Bell Jar. In her novel, Plath uses a fictional character to walk
her readers through her personal experiences (Plath 1 244). She describes in details the character,
setting, plot and theme (1 244). Esther Greenwood is the protagonist in The Bell Jar. She is a young,
college aged girl who is an extremely talented writer (Plath 3). She is one of twelve lucky winners
of a fashion magazine contest (3). As a prize, Esther is given a one month job and travels from

Throughout the book, Esther struggles with insecurity(1 244). The first time this perception is
perceived is when she and her friend are at a party with two guys they first met (11). She
introduces herself as a fake person because it makes her feel safer (11). My name s Elly
Higginbottom, I said. I come from Chicago. After that I felt safer. I didn t want anything I said or
did that night to be associated with me and my real name and coming from Boston (11). Then,
another example of this is displayed a few pages onward (18). Esther is inside the elevator of her
hotel, when she sees her reflection on the doors (18). The doors folded shut like a noiseless
accordion. Then my ears went funny, and I noticed a big, smudgy eyed woman staring
idiotically into my face. It was only me, of course. I was appalled to see how wrinkled and used
up I looked (18). Later, Esther meets a sailor and, again, introduces herself as Elly Higginbottom
(132). A third occurrence where Esther displays insecurity is when she is at a hospital and asks to
see a mirror (174). After some prodding, her nurse reluctantly hands it to her (174). When she sees

The Problem Of Air Pollution
Arizona is on the rise as one of the fastest metropolitan areas in the United States of America. In
fact, in 2015 Forbes Magazine ranks Phoenix, Arizona as the 11th fastest growing city in the
U.S.1 This growth is due the unprecedented resources and growing opportunities in the state of
Arizona. With all of these opportunities come more production, which means more emissions
from various industries and cars, more fossil fuels burned, and household and farming chemicals
added to the sky. All of these are examples of pollution; which is one the sacrifices that comes
with being a large city that is emerging. Pollution is defined as the action or process of making
land, water, air, etc., dirty and not safe or suitable to use.2 We understand that Phoenix is a rapidly
growing city, but they should be able to grow without being a detriment to the environment and
health of their citizens. The purpose of my report is to examine the problem of air pollutionin
Phoenix, Arizona and look at solutions to fix this problem.
Air pollution can harm plants, lakes, and animals. In addition to damaging the natural environment,
air pollution also can damage buildings, monuments, and statues. Not only does it reduce your
visibility but it also interferes with aviation. In 1970, Congress created the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) and passed the Clean Air Act, giving the federal government authority to
clean up air pollution in this country.3 Ever since then, the EPA, states, tribes,

Are you alright? Though it sounded as if she were choking on cloth, Loki recognized the voice as
Dallea s. Her voice was comically laced with worry, contrasting with her sinister looking armour.
Yes, Loki said, having trouble finding his words. He could only see a faint glimmer of her eyes
beneath that mask, and it was a daunting sight. Good thing you decided to come.
Yeah, Dallea breathed, relishing in the alien feeling of talking with her mask. She moved her
sword, distracted for a moment. Still sprawled on the ground, Loki watched the giant s hand
plummet towards them again. He grabbed Dallea by the strap on her shoulder and forced her to
roll with him, out of harm s way. Loki found his wits and cast a quick spell. Much to the giant s

Consequences Of The Tea Act Of 1773
1773 the Tea Act was formally implemented. This act gave the Britain s East India Company
(shipper) the right to transport tea directly into the Colony without paying any of the regular taxes
that were imposed on Colonial merchants. The dumping the tea into the colony allowed the shipper
to undercut the American merchants and monopolize the tea trade (Brinkley 101). The
consequence of this policy instigated further resentment towards the Crown and added to the belief
that it was not appropriately represented by their government. In reducing the tax burden, leaving
only the taxes on tea, leadership assumed the shift would be welcomed. In reality, Parliament had
lost touch with its citizens. In protest, passive aggressive movements took hold; The Daughters of
Liberty boycotted tea (Brinkley 102). 1773 local populations in Philadelphia and New York took

As a result of this action Parliament responded by closing the Boston ports, limiting the ability to
self govern, allowing royal officers in the Colony to be tried for crimes in other colonies and

known by the Colony as the Intolerable Acts. These acts further provoked the population; adding
validity to the term taxation without representation. The population of the time felt that the acts of
England were imposed without the input of the American colony. The actions taken by the Crown,
in response to the Boston Tea Party, only aggravated the posturing of each argument; the Crown
had the sovereign right to govern its people as it saw fit and the population not accepting the
authority thereof. The other States took sympathy on Massachusetts by passing a series of resolves

The Right To Physician Assisted Suicide
Physician assisted suicide, or PAS, has always been a very controversial topic. This touches upon
the healthcare side of the large spectrum of social problems today in America. An individuals view
on this issue might vary depending on their political ideology. Modern conservatives might not
necessarily agree with physician assisted suicide because of their traditional beliefs and values.
Conservatives might say it is wrong because it goes against the teachings of the bible which states

These states include Vermont, Washington, New Mexico, Montana, and Oregon. Euthanasia is
similar to the practice of physician assisted suicide, except instead of the physician ending the
patients life, as preformed in euthanasia, the patient does it on his or her own. At the patients
request, a certified physician may help a patient end their life pain free and peacefully. This
process however can only be requested by a patient if they are in extreme pain and suffering, and
especially if they have a terminal illness. While gathering and reviewing research I discovered an
interesting statistic. According to the website Edlink an informational site about issues related to
PAS which is hosted by Northwestern University, 57% of physicians practicing today have
received a request for physician assisted suicide in some form or another (Physician Assisted
Suicide Introduction). Thats over half of all physicians. I as a liberal, believe everyone should
have the right to physician assisted suicide. Some people in society claim that PAS is only socially
acceptable if a patient is terminally ill or is in painful suffering. In addition, it is a physicians moral
imperative to ease a patients suffering which if the patient requests, could mean ending their life.
The argument of
PAS relies a lot on the patient s respect for themselves, which identifies the rights of capable patient
s to decide how and when their death should occur when they are suffering

Analysis Of The Book Angela s Ashes
What defines true happiness? Happiness is like the white light that guides you through the darkest
of tunnels, helps you get through the toughest of times and the most difficult obstacles. Everybody
has their own true happiness just like everybody has their own personality. Some may argue that
true happinessis settling down with a wife and having a family but on the contrary many may
argue that being single and living life on their own is the way to be. We will see the similar
thoughts of this white light trending through each these three books; An American Childhood,
This Boys Life, and Angela s Ashes. In the book Angela s Ashes, we can see this notion come
true through Frank McCourt s writings. Frank lives in a cold wet Ireland a place that does not
always scream happiness. He lives a daily life of poverty, constantly struggling to find food. It
didn t help anything that his father was an alcoholic and sat in the pub every Friday to drink
away the family s money for food. The death of family members is a constant reminder to Frank
the darkness of Ireland and the clear state of depression that him and his family was in. Frank had
to take all of this in at a young age forcing the poor child to mature quickly for his age. All Frank
dreamed of doing was leaving Ireland and proving everyone who looked down on him wrong. He
wanted to rise from poverty and be able to help his family. We can see this drive to leave Ireland
and the poverty, we see this as Franks white light.

A Career In Troubleshooting Brake Shoes
You may regularly work on your car, handling a variety of tasks yourself, saving you money. The
more you re able to do on your own, the better for your budget. When it comes to troubleshooting
brakes, there may be a line you re just not willing to cross. We ll look at the simple jobs you can
handle on your own as well as those where calling upon a mechanic may be your best option.
Troubleshooting Brakes: Do it Yourself
Replace the brake pads. You can save a few hundreds dollars in labor costsby changing the brake
pads yourself. Typically, you ll pay from $50 to $100 per set of four brake pads, depending on
your make and model. Purchase a can of brake fluid while you re at it and begin assembling your
tools: gloves, safety goggles, jack stands, lug wrench, adjustable wrench, c clamp, and plastic ties.
By following the instructions in your model specific service manual, this job can be completed in
about an hour.
Change the brake calipers. Another job you can handle yourself is changing the brake calipers.

when the brakes feel soft to the touch and require extra pressure to make the car stop. Once you

Brake fluid is hydraulically pushed through tubes and drives each piston in a brake caliper. Here,
you ll need two people to get the work done one person to press the brake pedal and another
individual to open each bleeder valve to release air. Use a box wrench suitably sized for the bleeder

Theme Of Hiroshima Mon Amour
In this essay I will be comparing two films, Hiroshima mon
amour by Alain Resnais, and Level 5 by Chris Marker. I will
discuss the similarities and differences between them, going
through the plot, the cinematography and the theme of each
movie. I will also talk about the protagonists, actions,
technical stuff, and how these are aimed at each film s target
audience.
First of all, I would like to represent each movie.
Hiroshima mon amour is a 1959 drama film, directed by French
film director Alain Resnais. The movie is about a French actress
who s making an anti war film in the once devastated, but now
rebuilt city of Hiroshima, begins an intense affair with a
Japanese architect, the one who becomes her lover and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Resnais did a great job in mixing the
structure of his movie. He merged the past and the present,
using a poetic dialogue and a subjective use of sound. All of
this made his film a study of time and memory and the
devastation wrought by war. Alain used interplay of opposites
throughout the film: war and peace, sex and death, past and
present, reality and memory (using flashbacks), France and
Japan... He focused on his main character Her how she s
recollecting her own tragic experiences and relating them to the
war. For example, we see the hand of Him when he was sleeping
evokes her German lover s hand as he lay dead on the ground. So
the relationship between time and memory is a central theme of
this film.
Indeed, the techniques he perfected in a decade of
documentary production like the charming tracking shots that
envelope the viewer in the environment, carefully composed close
ups of faces and designing the light on them, the editing and
the poetic voice overs are used in a brilliant way in his movie.
Moreover, Resnais reveals unforgettable visual elements that
connected the viewer to the space of the movie, from the

  • 4. Improving Access For Voluntary Family Planning More than 200 million women in developing countries who want to avoid or delay pregnancy are not using family planning. These women have an unmet need that can result in unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, poor health, and strains on families and economies. Improving access to voluntary family planning could mitigate these challenges and lead to a host of other benefits. (Source 22, 23, 25). Given the potential of family planning for far reaching health, development, and economic gains, governments and their development partners should consider strengthening efforts and looking for new ways to increase the uptake and quality of family planning services. To this effect, the main program approaches that led to increases in contraceptive use included development approaches and supply side interventions. This attention to rigor of family planning evaluations will increase accountability, improve program decision making, and in the end, improve maternal and infant health outcomes. (Source 12) As revealed in various reports both demand and supply side interventions were found to be generally successful in increasing knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and discussions around family planning as well as increasing contraceptive use. From Cinnabon delights to ooey gooey cheesy bites; Taco Bell has it all. (And I m not talking about just their food!) Here are four reasons why Taco Bell can replace your significant other. #1: Free Tacos? I think yes. According to spaceref article, Free Tacos for U.S. If Mir Hits Floating TacoBell Ocean Target The author states, Taco Bellis offering a free taco to everyone in the United States if the core of the Mir space station hits a floating Taco Bell target placed in the South Pacific. In March 2001 Taco Bell painted their logo in the middle of the 40x40 foot flotation device, surrounded by target rings and Free Taco Here painted in big purple letters. If the Mir would have hit the target, coupon distribution, redemption and offer details would have been made available to consumers on the Taco Bell Web site. Taco Bell has purchased an insurance policy to cover the anticipated cost of the free taco redemption if the core of Mir would have hit the target. Sadly the Mir landed off course near Chile and America was devastated. If your significant other wouldn t offer everyone in America a free taco then who else will? Also loyal to either the French and the English changed throughout the duration of the war as well. Both sides possessed different advantages that help them win certain battles but eventually the French would prevail. The Hundred Years War was fought for three main reasons: land, power and money. The fight over land and power go hand and hand because in order to have the land you needed power. The closest male relative he had was his nephew, Edward III of England, but the nobles were not fond of his parent therefore he was unable to inherit he throne. Many English believe Edward was unjustly denied the right to the throne. Instead his first cousin, Philip VI, was crowned. The town of Pullman began to quickly populate as an industrial and residential center. Pullman s intention of improving living conditions was an immediate success. Outside visitors frequently commented on the clean streets, beautiful foliage and newly erected tenements and houses. They were more spacious and comfortable than those of the inner city. However, it must be noted that even though the new residences were quite remarkable they could not be purchased. Instead, they were rented out to Pullman in advance who received a reasonable 6 percent profit. Many historians believe that the inability to own property was one of the main flaws of Pullman. The average length of residence in 1892 was four and a quarter years. Many residents later purchased homes in neighboring towns. Asked why he had bought a home, an ex resident answered that he felt a greater freedom in his own place. The company did nothing to stop the residents from moving out. For children, his books represented a land of adventure and wonderful rhyming imagery. But in our childhood years, who knew he had an underlying meaning that meant so much more? As a young adult today, I am now cognizant of Dr. Seusshidden agenda and vow to implore this man s exertions of bringing awareness to the problems America was facing not only nationally, but globally as well. I have ordered all Yooks to stay safe underground while the Bitsy Big Boy Boomeroo is around, meaning that the Yooks themselves, know just how hazardous and on edge the situation is getting, yet they refuse to back down. In addition, in the last stanza, old Vanltch is saying, I ll blow you into pork and wee beans! I ll butter side up you to small smithereens! emphasizing just how strong his weapon was and that the Yooks should be afraid, very afraid. It may seem as though Seuss is being a wee bit dramatic, but he is only delivering the cold, hard truth that a situation like this was happening in the real world (the Nuclear Arms Race) and that we should all take notice and try to appease it. In the story, the nephew accompanies his grandfather to the wall in order to witness the ordeal and the grandfather even thinks it s a good idea because this way he can witness history in the making although neither may live to tell the story. Dr. Seuss was delivering another symbol of how both Russia and the United States were not thinking of the safety of their own people if one country was to drop their bomb on the other. Their only form of protection was to retaliate with their own bomb. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The key theme for this book is how the post Exodus Israelites journeyed to the Promised Land. Despite God s provisions for their well being, they were not thankful and doubted God. Their doubt and ungratefulness led to punishment by God. As a result of their lack of faith, they would spend 40 years wandering in the desert, teaching and preparing the second generation of Israelites of God s promise and provision. He explored all the decadence that worldly life offered. He found no fulfillment in any of these things or in life itself. He pursued wisdom, a never ending quest. He came to the conclusion that the answer to living this life, lies outside our daily lives, which he calls daily vanities of life. Through fearing God he believed we truly find meaning in this life. The South African and English legal systems are intrinsically opposite, and neither seem to escape controversy. These systems differ greatly on the legal subject of defence of necessity in the context of killing an innocent third party. The legal aspects of this defence, as well as accompanying problems which may arise, will be briefly discussed in terms of the South African as well as the English law. Utilitarianism and Kantianism will be used to analyse specific case law that made an enormous contribution to the legal dispute regarding necessity. 2 Necessity Necessity can be described as the voluntary conscious decision to break the law in order for a lesser ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this Constitution, every person has the right to life and the right to equality. With a successful defence of necessity for the murder of an innocent person, these basic human rights would be infringed upon, which is legally unacceptable. Thus, a case should fail when using the defence of necessity for the murder of an innocent person. 2 2 English Law The United Kingdom has no constitution, which is why English law can only be found in the common law of the United Kingdom. This common law does not regard the general defence of necessity as a justification, but rather as an excuse to a crime which is then classified as duress, and it does not recognise the defence of necessity to any murder. The English law, to my opinion, is still quite unclear as to whether or not the ground of justification of necessity, as to the unlawfulness of a crime, is accepted or not. The reason for this is because quite a clear position had been taken up by the courts in the United Kingdom regarding this matter, until the recent case of the conjoined twins, which led to a dispute in the English law as to the ground of justification of necessity. 2 3 Case Law Seen as S v Goliath, R v Dudley and Stephens, and the conjoined twins cases have all set out the legal precedent to which two countries are to be governed by, they will be briefly discussed by using the analogy of Utilitarianism as well as Kantianism. The primitive belief set based around deities who represent natural elements has been the foundation for everything from psychology to poetry. It is nearly impossible to go a day in Western Culture without hearing a reference or allusion to classical mythology. From corporate logos to clichГ©s, mythologyis all around us. Although most of us no longer worship the sunor the sea as divine, part of the reason why mythology remains so prominent today is its attempt to explain our position in relation to the divine, to elements of the natural world. The study of myth has evolved alongside theories of Greco Roman society, and it is hard for the modern reader to read myths without imposing their own ideas on them. Most likely this has happened for as long as we have been studying mythology, and this has an impact on how we look at myths today. For example, our book talks about homosexuality and feminism as they relate to classical mythology. These ideas and topics were undoubtedly thought of in a totally different way than they are today. As cultures and ideas change, the reading and analysis of myths will unavoidably change with them. To add to the complexities, there is not much historical record of the true role of women or homosexuality in Greek or Roman societies. Because women and same sex coupling appear frequently, we end up speculating about how the creators of myths intended these subjects to be understood. Because of that speculation, it seems impossible that every reader will have the same reading. Just like the myths changed as they were handed down, it seems that the way the myths are viewed and read will change too. It is also important to keep in mind that there are numerous, sometimes countless, variations of a single myth. Gods and goddesses traveled and migrated with populations and through generations. The LSGO and ROGO starting in the middle of the 60 s and continually have extended their nesting range south into less extreme climate (Abraham and Jeffries 1998). It has also been suggested that since birds are now living longer the older adults are now leading the less wary young to safer sites and out of hunter s range (Ingstrup 1998). Ingstrup also suggests that the artic may be warming and as Abraham and Jeffries cited there has been shown a correlation between the snow melt and survival of nesting birds and their young. However, this attitude can turn everything into one big problem if not treated accordingly. Worlds apart, by Bruce Springsteen portrays the beautiful story of the conflicts of love and religion. Bruce Springsteen s, Worlds Apart, focuses on a somewhat continuous problem about loveand culture, how sometimes religion isn t able to accept love over differences. Bruce writes about the major conflicts in Muslim culture when it comes to love. He portrays the story of trying to build a bridge over two different lovers from different cultures and the hardships of doing so. In one of the lines of his song he writes, Neath Allah s blessed rain we remain worlds apart, the line itself shows how hard it is to remain together under Allah. Bruce describes trying to love a Muslim woman and mentioning how it feels as they remain, Worlds Apart. The exaggeration in this shows the vast extent of the conflicts between love and Muslim culture. Bruce is unable to be with the woman he loves as her religion cannot accept his love. Unable to be together due to someone s lifestyle makes us see the bigger picture, of how loving someone from a different religion has turned into a crime. Another line in which shows us the conflict between love and Muslim culture is when Bruce mentions May the living let us in before the dead tear us apart. Bruce s plea in this line shows us the great extent, of the problem between love and Muslim culture. The line itself shows the desperation of being accepted by people before having others come and tear them apart. Bruce makes it seem as if love has become completely forbidden due to the differences. The usage of the line, the dead tear us apart, show how even the dead people who aren t living are capable of tearing two living beings from each other. In another line, bruce mentions, But when I look into your eyes we remain worlds apart.
