Vaccinations And The Prevention Of Infectious Diseases Essay
Kristen DeFlorio Student ID: 22339369 Introduction to Biology, SCI120 Research Project Number
25011100 11/29/2016 VACCINATIONS Throughout history, vaccinations have been used to help the
prevention of infectious diseases; some of which can produce serious illnesses, crippling disabilities,
and ultimately be the cause of death. There is evidence of ancient culture s attempting to treat
transmittable diseases with various forms of inoculations. Developments in the research of
vaccinations increased during the mid twentieth century because of the established of more advanced
laboratories, improved equipment, and new innovations. The progression of medicine during history
has helped further the development of research into vaccinations. Several cultural, ethical, and
religious issues have resulted from the development and use of vaccinations in our society. The topic
of vaccinations has caused a strong debate amongst our culture about the safety and danger of treating
infectious diseases with such methods. Through the understanding of infectious diseases, researchers
have been able to create several types of vaccines to help prevent a variety of life threatening illnesses.
Scientists develop immunizations using different techniques to treat diseases. These types include:
live, killed, toxoids, subunit, and conjugate vaccines. Vaccinations that are the live type use a specific
process which when administered will expose the patient to the actual disease, but in a much

Identity In Once Were Warriors
1. Introduction
Alan Duff s novel Once Were Warriors was published in 1990 and adapted to a film by director Lee
Tamahori in 1994. The controversial story about a Maori family made Duff a best selling author and
was greatly discussed after its publication (Martens 22f). The Maori family from whose members
points of view the story is told, is called Heke. Living in Pine Block, a fictional ghetto like
neighbourhood, the family s greatest concerns are unemployment, the parents alcoholism, the children
s rebellious behaviour, and the father s violence. Their situation seems hopeless: Jake, the father, loses
his job, drinks too much and repeatedly thrashes his wife Beth, who, in the beginning, prefers drinking
beer to caring for her six children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Readers expect the film to be faithful to its source material in ways that a filmic adaptation simply
cannot be faithful to a literary work, because [t]he demand for fidelity ignores the actual process of
making films, the important differences in modes of production (16). Stam and Raengo go even
further by claiming [a] filmic adaptation is automatically different and original due to the change of
medium (17). Another reason why adaptations are infidel to their source material, apart from media
characteristics, is money: While a novelist s choices are relatively unconstrained by considerations of
budget [...] films are from the outset immersed in technology and commerce (16). A novelist only has
to take his or her time to sit down and write a literary work and find a publishing house to publish it,
and therefore does not have to spend large amounts of money. Yet, for a film to be made, numerous
people are involved, for instance a screenwriter, a director, cinematographers, and actors. Thus, Stam
and Raengo assert that while mostly only one individual works on a novel, numerous people are
involved in creating a film (17). This also results in many different opinions on setting, plot,
characters, themes, lightning and so forth, which then leads to

Improper Pain Case Study Nursing
Pain
1. Asian cultures typically deal with pain differently than white, Anglo Saxon cultures. The Asian
culture is usually described as apathetic or stoic. They tend to decline pain medications or request very
little. Therefore Mrs. Wong who had a total hip replacement is experiencing the greater amount of
pain. Although, she is only taking over the counter Motrin and scaling her pain a 3 out of 10; she has
undoubtedly learned to keep her feelings to herself (D Amico Barbarito, 2016, Chapter 11).
2. First and foremost, pain is subjective, or whatever the patient says it is. It is their perception, and
not what any healthcare professional states it is for the patient. Two patients who have had the same
procedure can experience different levels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pain is subjective. Its control should be a multifaceted approach. Pain medication can be used in
combination with complementary and alternative methods. One complementary or alternative
approach is the distraction technique. Distraction is focusing one s thoughts away from pain. It does
not take the pain away, it simply changes the focus to another topic or object. The focus can be as
simple as an inanimate object, music, games, or television shows. The goal is to become so engrossed
in that activity or concentrated on that object that the pain is in the background as opposed to the
forefront of one s thoughts. It is best to practice this technique when pain is not at its height. This will
allow proper mastering of the technique prior to pain escalation ( Segment 4: How can distraction be

Typography Of Media
These days, the media plays a big part in the culture of the world. The media is a powerful source that
we ve been using for years and years since technology has been invented, starting with newspapers
and television. Throughout the years, media has changed since the transition from newspapers to
television broadcasting because of the changes of entertainment and what people are into as time goes
on. In the book Amusing Ourselves to Death, Postman looks at how print culture or typography has
changed the media, how it evolved to television and what it s doing to our culture and the way that
people think. In the beginning of the book and all throughout, Postman brought up the concept of
media metaphor when talking about how the media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Postman, before images were used in our everyday media, Americans were more logical
and politically engaged because they were focused more on speech and had more rational thoughts.
He says that our speech patterns were different when we printed everything, we wrote better and read
better which is why we were better thinkers. I agree to his analysis and conclusions about how
television has changed our thinking. We ve became a society that won t be persuaded unless we re
entertained or it has some kind of emotional appeal to it. Ever since televisions and printed images
came into existence, we get easily bored when something isn t captivating. This can also be a bad
thing for example, we believe things easily when it sounds good or shocking to us without logically
thinking about it. This causes us to have different perspectives thanks to how the media portrays
certain situations. I also agree with Postman when he talked about how people are less engaged
because of the media changes. One of the examples that Postman used was about the Abraham
Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas debate, it was a simple and short oral debate that lasted for 2 hours
and people sat through the whole thing without breaks. In this new media era, it s not that easy for us
to sit through long oral debates or lectures or we ll get bored because our attention span is not that
long. Since

Paws With A Cause Essay
It was a typical day for visually impaired Sharon Giovinazzo walking through an airport through the
guidance of her service dog Watson when a small dog charges at them, biting Watson under his chin.
As the president and CEO of World Services for the Blind, a rehabilitation center for blind or visually
impaired people, Giovinazzo travels at least once a week. Watson, a service dog bred and trained to
help a person with disability, guides Giovinazzo around obstacles and prevents her from getting
harmed. His intensive 18 month training allows him to be almost invisible in public spaces and to
perform special skills like guiding Giovinazzo to the nearest ladies room or to an electrical outlet
when she needs to charge her phone.

The goal of this legislation is to maintain the integrity of these very important service animals for
those who truly need them.
Paws With a Cause, an organization which specializes in custom trained service dogs for people with
disabilities, believes that the bill also needs to address the growing concern regarding emotional
service dogs.
Something we would like to see further clarified in the bill is the definition between emotional support
animal and a service dog, Deb Davis, Paws With a Cause community outreach manager, said. A
service animal is a dog [that is] specifically trained to mitigate a person s disability. It s custom trained
specifically for that individual.
Emotional support animals, on the other hand, are untrained animals that provide comfort and support
to people.
There s so much ambiguity and so much confusion, Davis added, Emotional support animals do not
have public access rights under the Americans With Disabilities Act. So while Senate Bill 663 has its
strengths and great steps forward, it s not going to superseded the ADA which is already there.
Jessica Payne has a 4 year old dog emotional support dog named Daisy. She told WebMD that Daisy
started out as a pet, but now comforts the anxiety ridden Payne.

Risks Of A Risk Management Process
Every day businesses face the challenge of being exposed to potential risks. Whether these risks are
internal to the company financially, damaged caused to the interior or exterior of the building itself, or
lawsuits due to liability losses, businesses have a responsibility to be prepared. There are numerous
ways for businesses to protect themselves from possible risks resulting from a loss. Risks may also
vary depending on the type of business and operations it conducts. Not all companies will be faced
with the same challenges of protection for losses, which is why it is important to consider a risk
management process. Risk management is the identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks,

Organic Farming Essay
Since the time of when early settlers arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, farming has proven to be a
reliable solution to many crises within the food industry. After all, learning how to farm from the
Native Americans saved the colonies from famine during the 17th century. Fast forward a couple
centuries to the 1800s. During the 1840s, commercial farming became a new trend as farmers began
seeing quicker production and a bigger profit. The inventions of irrigation and chemical fertilizers also
happened during this time. Subsequently, these farming techniques have further influenced the ones
today. However, the introduction of organic farming methods has created uproar within the
agricultural industry due to its impressive success. Polyface farms have become the leading icon for
how organic farming methods can and will be most successful in the journey towards revitalizing the
United States food industry. These organic farming techniques were formed based upon the issues that
industrial farming uses. In Michael Pollan s article The Animals: Practicing Complexity, industrial
farming techniques follow a clear, linear, hierarchical logic unlike Polyface s system, which is more
difficult to describe. Many see industrial methods as disrespectful to the lives of animals in which we
harvest. The practices that Polyface Farms use present
Spencer 2 a way to honor the lives that are taken away from animals. As Pollan says, Farming is not
adapted to large scale operations because

Socrates s Views On Philosophy
Socrates developed skepticism, questioning, Socrates was tried and sentenced to death in 399 B.C.E.
Socrates was denying the gods and was corrupting the youth. Socrates inspired ethics, morals, politics,
and government. Socrates was an Athenian philosopher and teacher who promoted the careful
examination of all inherited opinions and assumptions on the grounds that the unexamined life is not
worth living A veteran of the Peloponnesian War. His most influential pupils were philosopher Plato
and historian and social commentator Xenophon.
Plato was a student of Socrates. He had similar beliefs in multiple leaders. Plato was ruler by
philosopher kings (Enlightened Rulers). He founded a school with no tuition that is called an academy.
Plato wrote works of Socrates. Plato knows different types of Dialogues. The Republic displayed
politics, and social harmony over individual liberty. Plato dedicated his life to transmitting his teacher
s legacy through the writing of dialogue on philosophical subjects, in which Socrates himself plays the
major role. The longest and most famous of these, known as the Republic, describes an idealized polis
governed by a superior group of individuals chosen for their natural attributes of intelligence and
character, who rule as philosopher kings.

I would rather be the first painter of common things than second in higher art , Diego Velázquez. A

Point Of View In Black Beauty
Change. Adaption. Strength. In Black Beauty: An Autobiography Of A Horse by Anna Sewell, Black
Beauty is terribly treated and wants to be a wild horse. In The Georges And The Jewels By Jane
Smiley, Abby had given up riding her new horse because her father had to sell the one horse she truly
enjoyed. By examining Black Beauty and The Georges And The Jewels, it is evident that both texts
use first person point of view to develop the characters.
Preliminarily, Black Beauty uses first person narration to develop the protagonist by expressing their
inside thoughts about their surroundings. In paragraph 2, it states, Those who have never had a bit in
their mouths cannot think how bad it feels, a great piece of cold hard steel as thick as a man s finger to
be pushed into one s mouth... it is very bad! Yes, very bad! This excerpt shows Black Beauty
explaining his thoughts and conditions of being tamed horse. Black Beauty is unacquainted with the
bit piece and wants to get rid of it. This demonstrates how Black Beauty originally feels about how
cruel a tamed horse is treated compared to how a wild horse lives and those horses have no idea of
their struggles. The author uses first person point of view to show Black Beauty s thoughts that no
other perspective could ve shown at this level. In paragraph three of the same text, it also states, It
certainly did feel queer, but must say I felt rather proud to carry my master, and as he continued to ride
me a little every day I soon

Marsalis Phenomenon Analysis
Despite this turn over, the pattern of moving from one style to the next benefited postmodern jazz
musicians as they were able to capitalize upon the apparent open mindedness from the public to the
varied methods of musical expression (358). Through the help of the Association for the Advancement
of Creative Musicians (AACM), musicians were able to find performing opportunities, rehearsal
space, and other career support (358). The first president of the organization, pianist Richard Abrams,
gathered musicians such as Anthony Braxton, and Lester Bowie to produce work that focused on the
qualities of sound as opposed to conventional delineations of harmony, melody, and rhythm (358).
Many artists from the organization came to make their mark on postmodernism as their work reflected
a breakdown of styles into their constituent elements, sometimes focusing on one isolated aspect while
at other times combining the pieces into surprising new wholes (359). Artists such as Wynton Marsalis
took the spotlight in the supplemental reading for the thirteenth week. The article The Wynton

generation. His music was heavily influenced by the African American culture much like artists both
before and after Marsalis. This is where the articles keynote came in as the spirit of jazz is the spirit of

Essay on A Girl Named Paige
I walk through the doors to the fourth building, aiming towards the bathroom but instead, continue to
the hallway next to the library and sit across and diagonal from this girl who always makes me curious
with the way she looks, the way she acts. Everyday I see her, sitting alone. It s only seven thirteen and
I know her friends will join her soon; I stay sitting across from her. Everyday, my curiosity grows. I
see her all day and I know next to nothing about her. She sits alone most of the time, an almost forlorn
look plastered to her face. Alone now, I know she sees me. Her eyes dart up at me as I sit then return
to their staring at a random splat on the floor, wall, anywhere. Part of me wants to think she s just

decide to venture elsewhere, although I intend to keep an eye on Paige in first hour. During first hour,
Paige is just as vivacious, even more so than earlier. I notice then how small she is. Slim, but not puny,
and somewhat tall is her body stature. She s just small enough to be swallowed by any crowd. The
dark clothes make her shrink into herself. The incessant hoodies she wears contribute to absorbing her.
I suppose it reflects her personality, always drawn in, like a tortoise in a shell. I wonder how her
friend, Courtney, is friends with her. They seem polar opposites. Courtney looks outgoing, confident.
As I look at Paige, I can tell she isn t. I can see her low self esteem in the way she slouches and the
dullness in her eyes when she s contemplating. On one hand, I feel sympathetic for her. It s as if life
for her is so gruesome. On the other hand, however, her demeanor is disgusting. Low self esteem is
the least attractive quality in others. She seems comfortable, so why is it she always seems so
sorrowfully somber? I shake my head and stand as the bell rings, heading to second hour. On our way
to second hour, I walk behind Paige. Once she steps outside the classroom her face instantly takes on
that disheartening expression. I wonder silently, is her life really that poisonous? Does she return
home and act this way? I

Lizzie Borden Case
Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks and when she saw what she had done she
gave her father 41 . Lizzie Borden was accused for the murder of her father and stepmother. The
childhood rhyme is technically false. One reason would be that the Borden case was never solved and
another would be that Andrew, Lizzie s father, was whacked only 11 times and Abby, Lizzie s
stepmother, was whacked 19 times. The mystery behind Andrew and Abby Borden can be summed up
in two theories: Lizzie was the killer and there s no way she was the murderer. Now, While the death
of Abby and Andrew Borden is brutal, it as yet to be solved. On the hot morning of August 4,1982 in
Fall River, Massachusetts, two people were killed, many people pointed the finger at daughter of
Andrew Borden, one of the people murdered on that hot morning (Bee 1). In addition, Lizzie s mother
died when she was only three years old not long after, her father was soon married to Abby Gray, the
other person killed that morning (King 1). Abby, Lizzie s stepmother, believed that the reason
everyone in the house became sick around the time of the murders was that they had been poisoned

Military Leadership
Military leadership theory brings forth the discovery of many ideas regarding the application of
knowledge from a military background in a business environment. Much information was premised on
business owners, managers and employees working collectively, how to improve communication
skills, and how to define a goal and motivate others to follow it based on military leadership. The
connection between these two worlds of business and military is apparent. Many of today s companies
derive their structure and leadership model from that which is applied in the army. The military
typically has a main leader or a decision maker, who transmits orders to subordinates at lower levels.
This model is almost identical to what is seen in many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are plenty of people who possess the personality traits associated with leadership, yet many of
these people never seek out positions of leadership (Wheeler, 2000). Behavioral Theory This theory is
based on the idea that a person is not born a leader, but that a person becomes a leader through self
development and learning. It focuses not on mental qualities or internal states, but on the actions and
behaviors of leaders. According to this theory, people can learn to become leaders through teaching
and observation (Wheeler, 2000). One can conclude that it is the converse of the Great Man theory.
Contingency Theory According to this theory, there is not a leadership style that would be best in all
situations. Contingency theory of leadership focuses on particular variables related to the environment
that might determine which particular style of leadership is best suited for the situation. If the leader is
highly effective in one situation, he or she may not necessarily be effective in another. Success
depends upon a number of variables, including qualities of the followers, the leadership style or
aspects of the situation (Wheeler, 2000). Situational Theory This theory states that situational factors,
rather than skills of leader, determine the effectiveness of leadership. Situational theories propose that
leaders choose the best course of action based upon situational variables. Different styles of leadership
are needed

The Milky-Curtis Debate
The first point within the Shapely Curtis debate is based around the size of the Milky Way. Shapely
decided that the Milky Way s diameter was a lot larger than what was generally accepted based on star
counts. This was correct. However, he then said that galaxies that were near to the Milky Way s size
could not exist. This was wrong. Curtis wrongly accepted the general, smaller size of the galaxy
(wrong), but then said that galaxies that are similar sizes to ours may also exist. This was right.
The second point is about the distribution of the nebulae in the sky. Curtis saw that the spiral nebulae
that had been observed were normally found away from the plane of the Galaxy. He then suggested
that the Milky Way has a ring of material in front of the nebulae in its plane that was stopping us from
being able to see the nebulae in the plane. Curtis was nearly correct. Shapely accepted that spiral
nebulae were not found in the Galactic plane for some unknown reason.
Next, there are the observations of novae. Novae are stars that show a sudden increase in brightness
before returning back to their original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shapely pointed out that the brightnesses and colours that had been measured in spiral nebulae were
different compared to what he would expect to see if the Milky Way was observed from a distance. He
suggested that the nebulae were, somehow, completely different to our Milky Way. To this, Curtis had
no reply. Today we know that the differences exist because of interstellar absorption and reddening,
which stops astronomers from looking at our own galaxy to compare it, but none of this information
was known at their time. Curtis also noticed that the spectral lines seen in spiral nebulae were
normally the same, with the nebulae s being groups together huge amounts of stars. This was right,
and supported his argument about there being stellar systems similar to our own

Critical Success Factors In Project Success
Critical Success Factors
Pinto Slevin (1988) developed a list of critical success factors (CSFs) that are essential to the success
of any project. In the early 1990 s research was carried out based on 400 different types of projects
that used these CSFs and found that these managerial, behavioural and organisational issues that
remain within the control of the project manager are what contribute most highly to project success
(Hamilton, 2001). These 10 critical success factors are referenced highly in project management
literature:
Project mission: the objectives and purpose of the project must be understood by all stakeholders

Responsive Reading Assignment Sociology 101
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the key ideas presented in the two articles written by Poata
Smith (2004) and Richard Pringle (2007) and to explore how these key ideas link to the central themes
and discourses introduced throughout the duration of the course so far. In sight of the word limitations,
this essay will attempt to cover fewer key ideas highlighted within these texts, but in much more
detail. Some key ideas addressed in this essay include neo liberalism, class inequalities, biculturalism,
and in part two hegemonic masculinities, gender order and negative male identities. At the conclusion
of this discussion, I will take the opportunity to reflect on my personal engagement with the two texts.
Evan Poata Smith (2004) Maori Protest Politics and the Waitangi Settlement Process
In his article, Poata Smith (2004) acknowledges that the Crown alongside the New Zealand
Government, although not responsible for the actions of its predecessors, has taken steps to accept its
obligations to the Treaty of Waitangi and to the Maori people and to recognise breaches of the treaty
principles that it has made (p.59). The New Zealand Government, in its attempt to settle past treaty
grievances surrounding wrongful confiscation of land has divided Maori society in two: a division
between the Maori working class and the smaller Maori elite. Through neo liberal reforms to the
Treaty of Waitangi settlement process, highly represented

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Exchange Regime
FOREIGN EXHANGE REGIMES Foreign exchange is the trading of a currency for another or the
changing of a currency into another currency. Foreign exchange can further be defined as a market
which is global and in which currencies are allowed to trade throughout the world. An exchange rate
regime on the other side is the nature to which a currency is managed in relation to another by
authorities at the exchange market. It has similarities to those of monetary policy since they all depend
on same economic factors. The foreign exchange regime is classified by the level to which the
government intervenes in it. There for it only falls into one of the following; Fixed exchange rates

In the case of freely floating system, there are no official boundaries and rates are allowed to fluctuate
daily. Whereas in the fixed regime, currencies are prevented from moving too far or fluctuating in a
given direction by its government through the central bank. Its main disadvantage is that it has
achieved so little and it s not evident on whether it works or not. Freely floating rate system;this
exchange rate system is not influenced by the government in that the value of a currency is derived by
the market forces like demand and supply; the regime adjusts itself in response to the market forces on
regular basis. ADVANTAGES OF FREELY FLOATING EXCHANGE RATE SYSTEM Reduces the
spread of inflation; the system helps reduce on the spreading of inflation from one country to another
that are involve in trading, a good example is if country A experiences high inflation meaning increase
in prices, there will be high demand for goods from country B by country A. This whole situation

Lying In Euripide s Hippolytus
Lying: arguably a shunned act in society. Although lying remains looked upon as evil and corrupt, it
stands as an undeniable aspect of human nature. In Hippolytus by Euripides and excerpts in the Bible,
lying remains clearly evident. Lying comes naturally to characters in these stories, such as Phaedra
and Cain, and validates that lying can be utilized as a shield from outside attacks that destabilize the
social or emotional stability of an individual. Lying remains considerably justifiable, under the correct
circumstances, because it allows one to protect their emotions from being expressed, preserve a social
standing, and avoid discord with others. Often, emotions remain bottled up due to the fear of
developing a weak and powerless image. Protecting one s emotions ... Show more content on

Phaedra s love for Hippolytus, in Hippolytus by Euripides, would shame her social standing. When
Phaedra commits suicide, she makes a statement of how vital her reputation and honor remained for

Object Oriented Programming
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (JAVA) IN INTERVIEWS 1)What is OOPs? Ans: Object
oriented programming organizes a program around its data,i.e.,objects and a set of well defined
interfaces to that data.An object oriented program can be characterized as data controlling access to

programming logic follows certain procedures and the instructions are executed one after another. In
OOPs program, unit of program is object, which is nothing but combination of data and code. b) In

This book is written by Gary Paulsen. It takes place in the Canadian wilderness, where Brian Robeson
s, who is 13 yrs. Old, plane crashes. Brian shows a lot of determination and strength, to be able to
survive in the wilderness, with no one else. The story starts out with Brian in the city, he lives with his
mother, who is divorced. His mother gives him a gift before he leaves and it is a hatchet that fits on his
belt so Brian puts it there. Brian meets the pilot and he is a nice man. Brian and the pilot get ready to

shoots the arrows at birds and throws the spears at fish. quot;I know about fire; I know I need fire.
quot; Brian says this the second night he s there. Brian needs a fire because he needs it for heat, to
cook food and to keep animals away. Brian makes the fire with his hatchet and a rock. First, he figures
out that he needs some paper so he takes his 20 dollar bill and tries to burn it. Unfortunately, the bill
just burns right out and leaves him with no fire. After that, he takes his hatchet and cuts small pieces
of bark. Then he piles them up under twigs. Then he takes his hatchet and hits a rock with a great blow
and sparks catch the bark on fire. He hits another blow and the sparks catch the twigs on fire.
Therefore, he has a fire. This process shows that whatever Brian sets his mind to he can do it. About
two months later Brian went to the bottom of the lake to see if there was anything useful in the plane.
He brought up a survival package. There were many useful things in there like bandages and matches.

Cultural Depictions Of Spiders In Popular Culture
Throughout history, there have been many cultural depictions of spiders in popular culture, mythology
and in symbolic representation. In some instances, the spider symbolized patience and persistence due
to its hunting technique of setting webs and waiting for its prey to become ensnared. It is also a
symbol of mischief and malice for its toxic venom and the slow death it causes, which is often seen as
a curse. According to another set of literary archetypes, spider also symbolizes diligence, prudence,
caution, astuteness, but also deceit and cunning associated with creativity. In still other narratives,
spiders tend to appear as emblems of cruelty, aggression, greed and exploitation. In some cultures they

The Roles And Contributions Of Herodotus And Sima Qian
Although Herodotus and Sima Qian lived hundreds of years apart on opposite sides of the planet, their
respective impacts on their societies and humanity as a whole are tremendous. Herodotus was born in
480 BCE in Halicarnassus, Asia Minor (now Turkey). His family was wealthy, and immediately
resisted the Persian rule after their conquest of the city, leading to his exile on the island of Samos his
first encounter with the trauma of war. He then wrote The Histories, a work of massive scope that
focused on reliability and thoroughness unlike anything before it. Sima Qian was born in 145 BCE in
Han ruled China. His father held the title Grand Astrologer, a position concerned with preparing the
yearly calendar. However, his father had begun writing a grand work of history: at his death, Qian
promised to finish the work in his honor. The Records of the Historian, like The Histories, was
revolutionary in that it covered far more spatial and temporal ground than any prior Chinese work.
Because their purviews were so vast and recordings so comprehensive, Herodotus and Sima Qian s
respective influences were felt throughout their societies, thus facilitating their arbitration of moral
judgment through interpretation of historical fact. In crude terms, they understood that the what was
inconsequential without the why. Specifically, they saw their roles as interpreters as opportunities to
become arbiters of moral judgment: moral leaders. Their works, and thus their mechanisms of

Susan B. Anthony And The Abolitionist Movement
Susan B. Anthony devoted her life to the rights of women s labor, receiving equal pay, and leading the
women s suffrage movement. She grew up in a home where politics was frequently discussed. Her
family supported an end to slavery as part of the abolitionist movement. In her early years, she was a
teacher and became involved in the temperance movement as well as the anti slavery movement.
Because she was a woman, she was not allowed to voice her opinion. This became a motivator for her
to become a woman s suffrage leader. A skilled, talented woman made a difference when she joined
forces with Stanton. As mentioned earlier, Stanton and Anthony opposed the fourteenth and fifteen
amendments for not liberating women. As Mayo states, she published The Revolution, a radical paper,
edited by Stanton (1868 1870), and lectured for over six years to pay off its debt. (Rights for Women,
para.3) She was arrested for voting in 1872. She led a woman s protest at the 1876 Centennial
delivering a Declaration of Rights written by Stanton and Matilda Gage. She wrote and published,
with Stanton and Gage the History of Woman Suffrage (1881 1885) (Mayo para. 5). Although she was
arrested and it seemed like nothing came easy, she never gave up. Anthony was a hard working
woman that rallied many in hopes of advancing women s rights. She gathered signatures on suffrage
petitions at the state and national levels, undertook arduous state tours to organize suffrage campaigns

Steps to Improve Pronunciation
Steps to improve pronunciation and speak in neutral accent. 1. Listen how native speakers speak the
language. * Listening to and imitating a native speaker is the most important and fastest way to learn.
Remember that when we were young you learned a language by listening and then repeating the
words while imitating the accent. This is called acquiring. Instead of learning, we acquire our native
language through informal processes. In order to speak like the native speakers of English language,
we must use the same way we acquire our first language or mother tongue. 2. Try to watch some good
movies that can improve your overall communicative skills. * Watch movies in English with subtitles

So, by recording or own speech, we can see how good our speaking ability is. For some people, it s
shameful if another person correct us while interacting with him/her. So, this is the perfect way to self
correct our mistakes. 7. Increase your reading ability by going through newspapers and magazines. *
Reading is the most efficient way of learning the new language like English. As an adult, we will find
most of the sources of our supply of new words in books and magazines. If our reading today is
largely restricted only to the quick perusal of daily news papers, then we will have to change your
habits. If our aim is to have superior vocabulary, we will have to make the time to read at least one
book and several magazines every week. Not this week and the next week, but every week for the rest
of our life. We must have a target on how many books we want to read per year. This will be a habit
for us and we will be addicted to reading. We should go as slow as possible to understand the meaning
behind what we read. 8. Learn sounds of English. Familiarize with vowel and consonant sounds. *
Vowel and consonant sounds in English might not be the same as our native language. For example, in
English the c sound is pronounced as hard as the k in Malay language. So, by knowing the sound
patterns, we will have the accurate pronunciation of the words in English. Besides that, by learning the
sound

Trifles is a play that revolves around the death of Mr. Wright. Henry Peters, the acting sheriff and the

acting strange, as she rocked eerily back and forth, pleating her apron. She claimed that Mr. Wright

Historical Analysis Of Virginian Resolutions On The Stamp...
Historical Analysis of Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act (1765)
The Stamp Act that was passed by Parliament in 1765 caused the first major split between England
and the American Colonies. Great Britain had incurred a large loss due to the outcome of the Seven
Years war. Parliament decided to raise taxes directly through the colonists instead of doing it through
the usual regulation of trade. The Stamp Act required all printed material in the colonies to require a
stamp bought from the authorities. The colonists felt this was extremely unconstitutional, against their
liberties and their rights. In 1765, this motivated the Virginia s House of Burgesses orator, Patrick
Henry, to write a document titled Virginia Resolutions on the Stamp Act . In this document Henry
wrote seven resolutions to Virginia s House of Burgesses regarding the Stamp Act, but only four were
approved; the rest were deemed too radical. Regardless of how many resolutions were approved, all
seven were reprinted in the colonial newspapers, which is important for the intention of the document,
because it will be what the colonists read. This paper will analyze the document and argue why the
Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act started to fuel the fire behind the revolution. The Virginian
Resolutions on the Stamp Act embodied the ideas of the colonies that led the start of the American
Revolution because it caused merchants in the colonies to boycott British goods, it also reminded the
colonists that

I do not think that the story could happen without the deception of the niece because that is what the

The Physics Of The Hynamical Evolution Of Electron...
In the present paper, we considered the dynamical evolution of protons and electrons in response to
parallel electron firehose instability excitation. Even though the free energy source for the instability is
provided by excessive electron temperature anisotropy, because of the fact that unstable modes
operate in low frequency range, the protons respond to the instability excitation as well. Kinetic
instabilities driven by electron and proton temperature anisotropies, of which the present electron
firehose instability is a part, are known to play significant roles in regulating the temperature
anisotropy upper bound as the solar wind expands out into the interplanetary space from its solar

on average it takes six years.
Women are 10 times more likely to develop lupus than men. African American women aged 45 to 65

ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) [1] lies between 20% and 60% [2][3], and can be even more

Executive Summary
Improvements in health care and life sciences are an important source of gains in health and longevity
globally. The development of innovative pharmaceutical products plays a critical role in ensuring
these continued gains. To encourage the continued development of new drugs, economic incentives
are essential. These incentives are principally provided through direct and indirect government
funding, intellectual property laws, and other policies that favor innovation. Without such incentives,
private corporations, which bring to market the vast majority of new drugs, would be less able to
assume the risks and costs necessary to continue their research and development (R D). In the United

APUSH DBQ: Jacksonian Democrats
Andrew Jackson became known as the war hero after the Battle of New Orleans. His victory over the
Indians in the battle helped his public recognition and increased his popularity in society. In the
election of 1820, Andrew Jackson ran for presidency and won with flying colors. Jackson s humble
background gave him an edge over other candidates he was the voice for the common man and
endorsed the idea of national democracy. His years in office was named the Jacksonian era as he
changed the views and ideas of politics forever. Jackson s supporters called themselves the Jacksonian
democrats and viewed themselves as the guardians of the United States Constitution, political
democracy, individual liberty, and equality of economic opportunity. Although this is true to a certain
extent, Jackson advocated what he thought would be beneficial to the common man. Jackson spread
the equality of economic opportunities and remained loyal to the constitution, but fell short when
considering individual liberties and political democracy. Jacksonian Democrats guarded the equality
of economic opportunities. Since Jackson came from a middle class family and understood the
hardships the common citizen faced, he made sure that power was held in the majority of the citizens
as opposed to the limited wealthy elite class. Jackson vetoed the national bank because he believed it
would place a majority of

Vaccinations And The Prevention Of Infectious Diseases Essay Kristen DeFlorio Student ID: 22339369 Introduction to Biology, SCI120 Research Project Number 25011100 11/29/2016 VACCINATIONS Throughout history, vaccinations have been used to help the prevention of infectious diseases; some of which can produce serious illnesses, crippling disabilities, and ultimately be the cause of death. There is evidence of ancient culture s attempting to treat transmittable diseases with various forms of inoculations. Developments in the research of vaccinations increased during the mid twentieth century because of the established of more advanced laboratories, improved equipment, and new innovations. The progression of medicine during history has helped further the development of research into vaccinations. Several cultural, ethical, and religious issues have resulted from the development and use of vaccinations in our society. • 3. Identity In Once Were Warriors 1. Introduction Alan Duff s novel Once Were Warriors was published in 1990 and adapted to a film by director Lee Tamahori in 1994. The controversial story about a Maori family made Duff a best selling author and was greatly discussed after its publication (Martens 22f). The Maori family from whose members points of view the story is told, is called Heke. Living in Pine Block, a fictional ghetto like neighbourhood, the family s greatest concerns are unemployment, the parents alcoholism, the children s rebellious behaviour, and the father s violence. Their situation seems hopeless: Jake, the father, loses his job, drinks too much and repeatedly thrashes his wife Beth, who, in the beginning, prefers drinking beer to caring for her six children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Readers expect the film to be faithful to its source material in ways that a filmic adaptation simply cannot be faithful to a literary work, because [t]he demand for fidelity ignores the actual process of making films, the important differences in modes of production (16). Stam and Raengo go even further by claiming [a] filmic adaptation is automatically different and original due to the change of medium (17). Another reason why adaptations are infidel to their source material, apart from media characteristics, is money: While a novelist s choices are relatively unconstrained by considerations of budget [...] films are from the outset immersed in technology and commerce (16). A novelist only has to take his or her time to sit down and write a literary work and find a publishing house to publish it, and therefore does not have to spend large amounts of money. Yet, for a film to be made, numerous people are involved, for instance a screenwriter, a director, cinematographers, and actors. Thus, Stam and Raengo assert that while mostly only one individual works on a novel, numerous people are involved in creating a film (17). This also results in many different opinions on setting, plot, characters, themes, lightning and so forth, which then leads to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Improper Pain Case Study Nursing Pain 1. Asian cultures typically deal with pain differently than white, Anglo Saxon cultures. The Asian culture is usually described as apathetic or stoic. They tend to decline pain medications or request very little. Therefore Mrs. Wong who had a total hip replacement is experiencing the greater amount of pain. The media is a powerful source that we ve been using for years and years since technology has been invented, starting with newspapers and television. Throughout the years, media has changed since the transition from newspapers to television broadcasting because of the changes of entertainment and what people are into as time goes on. In the book Amusing Ourselves to Death, Postman looks at how print culture or typography has changed the media, how it evolved to television and what it s doing to our culture and the way that people think. According to Postman, before images were used in our everyday media, Americans were more logical and politically engaged because they were focused more on speech and had more rational thoughts. He says that our speech patterns were different when we printed everything, we wrote better and read better which is why we were better thinkers. I agree to his analysis and conclusions about how television has changed our thinking. We ve became a society that won t be persuaded unless we re entertained or it has some kind of emotional appeal to it. Ever since televisions and printed images came into existence, we get easily bored when something isn t captivating. This can also be a bad thing for example, we believe things easily when it sounds good or shocking to us without logically thinking about it. This causes us to have different perspectives thanks to how the media portrays certain situations. I also agree with Postman when he talked about how people are less engaged because of the media changes. One of the examples that Postman used was about the Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas debate, it was a simple and short oral debate that lasted for 2 hours and people sat through the whole thing without breaks. In this new media era, it s not that easy for us to sit through long oral debates or lectures or we ll get bored because our attention span is not that long. Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After all, learning how to farm from the Native Americans saved the colonies from famine during the 17th century. Fast forward a couple centuries to the 1800s. During the 1840s, commercial farming became a new trend as farmers began seeing quicker production and a bigger profit. The inventions of irrigation and chemical fertilizers also happened during this time. Subsequently, these farming techniques have further influenced the ones today. However, the introduction of organic farming methods has created uproar within the agricultural industry due to its impressive success. Polyface farms have become the leading icon for how organic farming methods can and will be most successful in the journey towards revitalizing the United States food industry. These organic farming techniques were formed based upon the issues that industrial farming uses. In Michael Pollan s article The Animals: Practicing Complexity, industrial farming techniques follow a clear, linear, hierarchical logic unlike Polyface s system, which is more difficult to describe. Many see industrial methods as disrespectful to the lives of animals in which we harvest. The practices that Polyface Farms use present Spencer 2 a way to honor the lives that are taken away from animals. As Pollan says, Farming is not adapted to large scale operations because ... In The Georges And The Jewels By Jane Smiley, Abby had given up riding her new horse because her father had to sell the one horse she truly enjoyed. By examining Black Beauty and The Georges And The Jewels, it is evident that both texts use first person point of view to develop the characters. Preliminarily, Black Beauty uses first person narration to develop the protagonist by expressing their inside thoughts about their surroundings. In paragraph 2, it states, Those who have never had a bit in their mouths cannot think how bad it feels, a great piece of cold hard steel as thick as a man s finger to be pushed into one s mouth... it is very bad! Yes, very bad! This excerpt shows Black Beauty explaining his thoughts and conditions of being tamed horse. Black Beauty is unacquainted with the bit piece and wants to get rid of it. This demonstrates how Black Beauty originally feels about how cruel a tamed horse is treated compared to how a wild horse lives and those horses have no idea of their struggles. The author uses first person point of view to show Black Beauty s thoughts that no other perspective could ve shown at this level. Shapely decided that the Milky Way s diameter was a lot larger than what was generally accepted based on star counts. This was correct. However, he then said that galaxies that were near to the Milky Way s size could not exist. This was wrong. Curtis wrongly accepted the general, smaller size of the galaxy (wrong), but then said that galaxies that are similar sizes to ours may also exist. This was right. The second point is about the distribution of the nebulae in the sky. Curtis saw that the spiral nebulae that had been observed were normally found away from the plane of the Galaxy. He then suggested that the Milky Way has a ring of material in front of the nebulae in its plane that was stopping us from being able to see the nebulae in the plane. Curtis was nearly correct. • 25. Object Oriented Programming FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (JAVA) IN INTERVIEWS 1)What is OOPs? Ans: Object oriented programming organizes a program around its data,i.e.,objects and a set of well defined interfaces to that data.An object oriented program can be characterized as data controlling access to code. 2)what is the difference between Procedural and OOPs? Ans: a) In procedural program, programming logic follows certain procedures and the instructions are executed one after another. In OOPs program, unit of program is object, which is nothing but combination of data and code. b) In procedural program, data is exposed to the whole program whereas in OOPs program,it is accessible with in the object and which in turn assures the security of the code. ... The Roles And Contributions Of Herodotus And Sima Qian Although Herodotus and Sima Qian lived hundreds of years apart on opposite sides of the planet, their respective impacts on their societies and humanity as a whole are tremendous. Herodotus was born in 480 BCE in Halicarnassus, Asia Minor (now Turkey). His family was wealthy, and immediately resisted the Persian rule after their conquest of the city, leading to his exile on the island of Samos his first encounter with the trauma of war. He then wrote The Histories, a work of massive scope that focused on reliability and thoroughness unlike anything before it. Sima Qian was born in 145 BCE in Han ruled China. His father held the title Grand Astrologer, a position concerned with preparing the yearly calendar. However, his father had begun writing a grand work of history: at his death, Qian promised to finish the work in his honor. The Records of the Historian, like The Histories, was revolutionary in that it covered far more spatial and temporal ground than any prior Chinese work. Because their purviews were so vast and recordings so comprehensive, Herodotus and Sima Qian s respective influences were felt throughout their societies, thus facilitating their arbitration of moral judgment through interpretation of historical fact. This became a motivator for her to become a woman s suffrage leader. A skilled, talented woman made a difference when she joined forces with Stanton. As mentioned earlier, Stanton and Anthony opposed the fourteenth and fifteen amendments for not liberating women. As Mayo states, she published The Revolution, a radical paper, edited by Stanton (1868 1870), and lectured for over six years to pay off its debt. Instead of learning, we acquire our native language through informal processes. Increase your reading ability by going through newspapers and magazines. * Reading is the most efficient way of learning the new language like English. As an adult, we will find most of the sources of our supply of new words in books and magazines. If our reading today is largely restricted only to the quick perusal of daily news papers, then we will have to change your habits. If our aim is to have superior vocabulary, we will have to make the time to read at least one book and several magazines every week. Not this week and the next week, but every week for the rest of our life. We must have a target on how many books we want to read per year. This will be a habit for us and we will be addicted to reading. We should go as slow as possible to understand the meaning behind what we read. 8. Learn sounds of English. Familiarize with vowel and consonant sounds. * Vowel and consonant sounds in English might not be the same as our native language. • 34. Historical Analysis Of Virginian Resolutions On The Stamp... Historical Analysis of Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act (1765) The Stamp Act that was passed by Parliament in 1765 caused the first major split between England and the American Colonies. Great Britain had incurred a large loss due to the outcome of the Seven Years war. Parliament decided to raise taxes directly through the colonists instead of doing it through the usual regulation of trade. The Stamp Act required all printed material in the colonies to require a stamp bought from the authorities. The colonists felt this was extremely unconstitutional, against their liberties and their rights. In 1765, this motivated the Virginia s House of Burgesses orator, Patrick Henry, to write a document titled Virginia Resolutions on the Stamp Act . In this document Henry wrote seven resolutions to Virginia s House of Burgesses regarding the Stamp Act, but only four were approved; the rest were deemed too radical. Regardless of how many resolutions were approved, all seven were reprinted in the colonial newspapers, which is important for the intention of the document, because it will be what the colonists read. This paper will analyze the document and argue why the Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act started to fuel the fire behind the revolution. The Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act embodied the ideas of the colonies that led the start of the American Revolution because it caused merchants in the colonies to boycott British goods, it also reminded the colonists that ... In the present paper, we considered the dynamical evolution of protons and electrons in response to parallel electron firehose instability excitation. Even though the free energy source for the instability is provided by excessive electron temperature anisotropy, because of the fact that unstable modes operate in low frequency range, the protons respond to the instability excitation as well. Kinetic instabilities driven by electron and proton temperature anisotropies, of which the present electron firehose instability is a part, are known to play significant roles in regulating the temperature anisotropy upper bound as the solar wind expands out into the interplanetary space from its solar source.
