Comparing Grendel And Beowulf
After reading the classic Anglo Saxon tale, Beowulf, readers find themselves engrossed in the
character of Grendel. This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells
Grendel s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality
and morals. While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different.
Beowulfs predictable narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while
Grendelis filled with complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to
decipher. The analyzation required to truly understand Grendel displays the varying audiences the
stories were written for. Grendel and Beowulf also use completely different... Show more content on

The theme coming of age is included in both compositions. Throughout Grendel, Grendel
struggles to come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood
and childhood. For example, after getting stuck in a tree, Grendel cries out for his mother and
then moments later contemplates the meaning of life: The king snatched an ax from the man
beside him and, without any warning, he hurled it at me... I bellowed for my mother...I tried to
tell her that happened, all that I d come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the
world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s
shows Grendel s gradual coming of age. Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure
many quests that challenge him not only physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as
well. Beowulf has to question many of the things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing
wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does
not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step
in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that he needs to accept help in the end and does
not always have to accomplish things on his own, something he uses to his advantage in later
battles. Altogether, both Grendel and Beowulf

Maximilien Robespierre And The Reign Of Terror Of The...
Maximilien Robespierre was a revolutionary who significantly influenced and justified the Reign
of Terror. The Reign of Terror was a dark and violent time during the French Revolution. It began
when the Girondins were overthrown by the Jacobins, who were led by Robespierre. Later, the
members of the government had lost to the Jacobins and sans culottes, thus the king was executed.
The Jacobins were the driving force of the Reign of Terror, while Robespierre was the mastermind.
The Girondins were a branch of the Jacobins but they were conservatives and less radical. The
Jacobins were the most radical and ruthless of the political groups, and they identified themselves
with the common people, also known as the sans culottes. In response to their poverty stricken life
under the Ancien RГ©gime, most of the sans culottes became revolutionaries and militant
supporters of the French Revolution. The sans culottes saw popular violence as a political right,
therefore they attacked anything or anyone who was against the revolution. They were determined
to avoid street violence, hence taking violence into their own hands as an instrument of the
government. (Linton, Marisa 2006) In association with Robespierre, the Jacobins started the Reign
of Terror. Robespierre and the Jacobins began to concentrate their power in spreading the Reign of
Terror when they dominated the National Convention. Without delay, they made various harsh laws
to frighten anyone who disagreed with them.

Cognitive Behavioral Theory Essay
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a short term, problem centered therapy that is used to
address psychopathology within the individual (Beck, 1995). This model of therapy is used to
address issues of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, relational problems, and drug abuse, and can
be utilized when working with individuals, as well as within group and family modalities. The core
aspects of this therapy include collaboration and participation by the client, a strong alliance
between therapist and client, and an initial focus on current problems and functioning (Beck, 1995).
The theory of CBT emphasizes the relationship between the individual s thoughts feelings and
behaviors, which is seen as being the underlying cause of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once an automatic thought occurs within the individual, it triggers a feeling, which in turn
triggers the individual s response, such as a behavior and/or physiological response. For
example, after a young child begins to pick up his blocks to be put away, his mother rubs him on
the back and gives him praise for his actions. His automatic thought may be, I am good when I put
away blocks, triggering a feeling of confidence, an increased level of physical energy, and the
behavior of putting away the remaining blocks.
Automatic thoughts can be neutral, positive, or negative. We all have our own automatic thoughts
as we move through our day to day lives and interact with others. In regards to individuals with
psychological disorders, the cognitive model looks at how negative thoughts influence the
individual s feelings and behaviors (Beck, 1995). From a CBT lens, it is the negative automatic
thoughts that an individual has that perpetuate symptoms of psychological disorders, the
occurrence of negative mood, uncomfortable physiological responses, and maladaptive or
inappropriate behaviors (Beck, 1995). While we all have moments of experiencing negative
automatic thoughts, for those with psychological disorders, and more pervasive difficulties in
living, negative thoughts are often experienced in situations that are neutral, producing negative
feelings that lead to maladaptive behaviors or responses that would not

Safe Disposal of Insulation Material
There have been various types of Insulating materials used within the electrical power industry
since the beginning of electrical power. And over the years scientist and environmentalist have
discovered that most if not all insulating materials are harmful to the human body or the
environment in one way or another, being shot term or long term exposures. First of all, the term
insulating material refers to a substance that has the ability to resist electrical energy flow to make
a conductor or copper wire safe to touch by human hands for instance. But all these insulating
materials will break down at a certain limit if the power is strong enough, so this tells us that there
is no such thing as a perfect insulator. This example explained above is one use for an insulating
material within the electrical power industry. Insulators serve many advanced purposes and
conditions. Be it Arc suppression within circuit breakers or voltage insulation on power lines, or
even protective equipment worn by electrical workers. A majority of these insulating materials have
been known to cause health hazards to humans and environmental hazards to the environment
which will be discussed in a bit more detail further on, and

Marilyn Manson and His Impact on Sub-culture.
Marilyn Manson has been pushing the envelope of the right to freedom of expression since his
controversial shock rock antics began in the early 1990 s. His methods are strange and rejected by
most of society, as it cannot understand what he is trying to achieve. Many people believe that
Marilyn Mansonis bizarre, seeing him wearing women s clothing, applying heavy facial makeup,
and covering himself with jewelry. His success can be attributed not only to his entertainment
abilities, but even more so to the incredible marketing campaign organized to promote himself
and his crazy actions. His actions give the media a scapegoat to fall back on and a figure which
they can blame all of society s problems. He has amassed a large following... Show more content on

Manson also begins to experience his sexuality with women. From his school experiences to his
involvement with sexuality, Manson begins terrorizing the people who have mistreated him. He
started to experiment with black magic, began an enduring drug habit, and displayed his disgust for
mainstream citizens by stealing from stores. All of this is what Brian Warner was, and who
Marilyn Manson was to become. (Long, Manson and Strauss)
As Manson s reputation developed, so did the disturbance surrounding him and his actions. His
concerts were regularly protested by civil rights groups, and his music was the target attacks
from religious and more specifically, Christian groups. This image was created using Manson s
genius for marketing. At the peak of this controversy, Manson had a cover story in Rolling Stone
Magazine as well as a best selling autobiography: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell.
Why Does He Have Such A Following?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. (Bill of Rights)
Manson, along with many other artists, fully embraces their first amendment right to free speech to
get their message across. This message mainly appeals to younger generations who can relate to
Manson s songs. Younger

Dna Testing And The Criminal Justice System
Convictions prior to the advancement of DNA testing in the criminal justice system were
commonly found to be later wrongful and due to eyewitness misidentification (Scheck Neufeld,
2001). Hence, there has been increasing research by psychologists in eyewitness memory and
particularly in line up practices. In criminal identification, a simultaneous line up (SIM) is typically
used and involves presenting the witness with all line up suspects at once with the offender (target)
placed amongst other innocent suspects (foils) that resemble the offender (Wells Olsen, 2003).
With these conditions, witnesses have a tendency to compare suspects with each other in order to
determine the one that have the closest resemblance with the offender, a process called relative
judgement (Steblay, Dysart, Fulero Lindsay, 2001). In the simultaneous line ups with target present,
there are more hits as the closest resemblance is the perpetrator but while in target absent
conditions, the closest matching foil is often picked and resulting in more false alarms (Steblay,
Dysart, Fulero Lindsay, 2001). Therefore, to prevent the potential of misidentification, alternative
line up presentations have been developed to inhibit relative judgement processes such as
sequential line up in Lindsay and Wells (1985). Sequential line ups (SEQ) involves presenting a line
up of photos in a sequential format and eyewitnesses can only view the photo once and must
determined whether the photo matches the

Econ 120 Reflection Paper
1.Before entering this class, what was your grade expectation? Why?
When I decided to take this course I was expecting to get an A, because I believed that Econ 120
was going to be similar to my Econ class on high school; unfortunately, it was not. Econ 120 is
more challenging. The first weeks of class were easy, but as the time passes the class got harder for
me and my grades on the exams dropped my overall grade on the class.
2.What is your grade before the final test? What level of performance had you been at?
My actual grade before the final is almost as my expectation grade when I entered this class, I
have a B with 89% without the final. I believe I had been doing good, not as I wanted it, but
good. My lower level of performance is on the multiple choice part of the exam, because I had
been doing good on the writing portion on the test, since I try to prepare to the best of my
capacity. I think I have a good level of performance because I have turned all my assignments on
time and complete. Nevertheless, my performance, decreased with the third exam.

I am hoping to get an A on the final so my final grade could be an A, however I had been getting

according to my level of performance. But in this exam I will prepare more than the last exam, I
will read all the chapters more than once or even more than twice. I also plan to review the
homework from connect and the practice quiz. Something new that I am planning to do is to try to

Sarah Jeannette Duncan s A Mother in India
Patriarchal Victorian Men Create Monstrous Victorian Women
706 Words
A Mother in India, as a story depends on the facade of appearance and the reality of emotional
abandonment within a male dominated Victorian society. Duncan s point is that Victorian men
create monstrous Victorian women. Relationships of any emotional worth are rendered
impossible between Helena and her daughter Cecily because of a life long separation imposed
by the father. It is impossible for Helena to be Cecily s emotional or spiritual mother because
Helena is not emotionally equipped to be anything else other than a servant to her husband. Her
life has been pre arranged by a series of male allowances and dictates. ... Show more content on

Her life to this point has been dictated by men. She does what she is allowed to do and little
else. Her husband did not allow Cecily s return until she was twenty one years old because he
simply would not hear of her coming before (15). Helena is expected to be maternal with a
young woman whom she has not been allowed to raise. This is an un fair position to be placed in
by a requently absent husband. Helena does not want to feel old and is resolved to be young until
[she] is old (15). She would rather not be reminded of her middle age by the maternally successful
Mrs. Morgan or the presence of her youthful attractive daughter. With her daughter present she will
lose the status of lady and gain attention as the mother of a twenty one year old woman. The
relationship is tagged on too late by a pathetic father and a totally in experienced mother who is
now beyond caring.
Cecily is the victim of the self centred human garbage that is her parents. This story is an attack
on Victorian domesticity and the pitfalls of being a mother in those times. Helena being a
product of her society was incapable of being a mother at the age of forty and it is doubtful she
could have been anything else other than a servant to her husband. Cecily did not stand a chance
of having a meaningful relationship with her mother and is to be pitied as a character in such a
dark, lamentable story. No doubt there is truth to the story, but it s lack of humour and it s absence
of love puts

Dulce Decorum Est Tone
Wilfred Owen accomplishes a wide array of different objectives in his poem De Dulce Decorum
Est through his word choice, tone, and vivid imagery. Using a destitute tone consistently
throughout the first stanza, Owen creates a specific atmosphere. Giving objects life through
extensive personification, and comparing them through many similes. Owen also gives us a
clear depiction of how he saw war, being a soldier himself against the backdrop of WWI, Owen
had a strong opposition to war and suffered himself from shell shock. A portion of his poem in
the last stanza is a direct reference to Jessie Pope, a pro war poet. In the first stanza, the entire
tone is dreary and completely void of any positive qualities. Owen utilizes many sensory devices
to give us a specific and intended feeling of how the soldiers feel and to the extent of how
exhausted they are. He creates vivid imagery through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reality is a perception that organizes how people relate and organize the world. The Paracingulate
sulcus is a structure in the brain that is associated with our monitoring of what is reality and what
is not. With out this monitoring system people end up with disorders such as schizophrenia. The
New York Times interprets the results of a study published by the University of Cambridge and
University of Melbourne on the effects of the Paracingulate sulcus on how peoplemonitor what is

people with out a Paracingulate sulcus will have poorer monitoring of memory compared to
people with a clear Paracingulate sulcus on either one or both sides of the brain. Even though
both articles explain the exact same research, it is interesting to see the many differences of the
two articles. The article was chosen for more then its connection to cognition and what is being

being a perception that changes from person to person is not something people think about

Gender Stereotypes In The Hollywood Industry
In continuation, the Hollywood industry reinforces gender stereotypes through various forms of
media. The films and advertisements that construct gender stereotypes are perpetuated by the
media. The stereotypes include that men are powerful, successful, and employ women for films
and television shows, whereas women are fragile, underrepresented, and need assistance in order
to become successful. For example, Weinstein was able to manipulate several women that he could
give them a career and help them succeed in the industry in return for sexual favors and his
advantage was his powerful position as a man in the Hollywood industry. In continuation, Trump
used his position to degrade women, for example he called a famous actress Heidi Klum
unattractive and not a ten on his scale of attractiveness. Trump considers his right to be surrounded
by beautiful women and cannot distinguish between a women s value from her physical
appearance. After Trump and Weinstein were accused of sexual harassment
, people on social media
started a campaign called #MeToo which allowed women and men from all over the world share
their stories about sexual assault and harassment. The campaign consisted of speeches, protests,
and awareness of how many people are dealing with and experience harassment on a daily basis.
The purpose of the #MeToo movement was simply an attempt to get people to understand the
prevalence of sexual harassment and assault in society and to get women, and men, to raise their

This historical study will examine the complex provincial affiliations related to Canadian
Confederation that demanded complex political maneuvers to unify the Anti Confederate party and
the Confederate Party to support the Quebec Resolutions of 1865. The Anti Confederate vantage

The lack of political representation under the Union Act of 1840 provided very few rights for
local government, which was perceived as a danger if the new confederate policies were to be

Nova Scotia provided more seats in the provincial legislature, which resulted in a rejection of the
Quebec resolution (Beck 56). More so, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were often marginalized
in these discussions, since they were not as economically powerful as Quebec or Ontario. In this
case, the Confederacy Party of Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Charles Tupper, had
temporarily failed to win over the people to federalization. The distrust between the Nova Scotia
parliament and the mainland provinces was a major barrier to Confederacy due to a lack of
representational government under the Union Act:

Jonah John Piper Essay
In The Education of a Prophet: Jonah John Piper discusses the idea of Christians that have
strong racist views. He starts his sermon by talking about his hometown church and its racist
members, then he compares these people to members of the Ku Klux Klan, and last of all he
discussed the nationalistic views Jonah had. Piper had found the idea of Christians harboring
racist views troubling and made several arguments on why Christians cannot be racist.
According to John Piper, church members of his mother s church are racists because they voted
against blacks from attending their congregation; however the members are Christians and yet
they harbor such racist views. Then Piper claims that this racism is contrary to the spirit of Jesus
Christ who told us to love our enemies and to do good to those who hate us (Luke 6:27, 28).
This had baffled Piper, how could these Christians possess such racist views? I think Piper
cleared this issue up when brought up the story of The Good Samaritan . Even though the two
races despise each other the Samaritan still had the heart to take care of the stranded man. Piper

that he does not think of Toohey. Throughout the book, the reader may find themselves

The East India Company ( Eic )
A corporation, as defined by the Business Dictionary, is a Firm that meets certain legal
requirements to be recognized as having a legal existence, as an entity separate and distinct
from its owners. One of the earliest known corporations was the East India company (EIC),
receiving its Royal Charter from Queen Elizabeth I, in 1600, which granted it the right to
incorporate during a time when most people were either sole proprietors or in partnerships. The
EIC was a charter company whose most lucrative commodity was tea, opium and textiles. Their
power and influence was unparalleled and unyielding, acting as a governing authority in places
with weak or no governments. By taking control of the Bengal opium industry, they were able to
trade opium for tea in China, using the excess gains to buy textiles in Bengal and use them to
trade for slaves in Africa, which ultimately they sold for gold in America. These army backed
bandits were above the law and beneath the bailout. By the time of their eventual demise, the
world had changed and laws were put into place to prevent another EIC era, which better fit

obtaining profit without individual responsibility .

Dichotomy In The Outsiders
Have your feelings ever lead you to believe that you did not belong? Feeling such as those are
elegantly portrayed in S.E. Hinton s fictional novel The Outsiders by multiple characters in
groups in the book. These include the social classes, Ponyboy Curtis, and lastly Johnny Cade.
When a person s mind tells them they are different, than they can be classified as an outsider,
which means that feeling of being original is all in the mind. To begin, an outsider is someone
who seems left out, whether it is an opinion of themselves or that of others. In The Outsiders,
two social classes; greasers and Socs show that outsiders can be both inside and outside groups.
They also show the role of dichotomy in discrimination. A character named Cherry Valance is an
outsider among the Socs yet she is a part of that group. We aren t the same class. she had said to

Socs in the book are explained as cool to the point of not feeling anything (38). Conclusively,
Cherry may be a part of the Socs but is an outsider from them. Her relationship with Ponyboy
shows that Socs and greasers dichotomy only seems to be. Secondly, the main character in the
novel, Ponyboy Curtis displays the role of an outsider by differentiating it from the term
individual. Ponyboy is only a part of the gang because of his brothers. I was a tagalong and a kid
he had said Soda always took me when they went places (9). Even though his siblings had brought
Ponyboy to the gang, they still accepted him, even though he was younger, and felt differently
about certain things. His differences is classified him as an individual as well as an outsider. In
summary, it is important to realize the difference between the concept of individuality from being
outsider. Lastly, a small, fragile boy from The Outsiders named Johnny Cade shows the role of a

The second stanza tells about a glorious lamp of heaven , the sun, running a race from sunup to
sundown (Herrick 385). In the third stanza it talks about when people are youthful they think they
have all the time to accomplish their goals but times still succeed the former , which simply means
time
Huffer 2 always wins and people are old before they know it (Herrick 385). The meaning and
theme of carpe diem is clearly described in the four stanzas of the poem. before it s gone. The
third stanza means simply that the times are best when people are young to realize their dreams
and do something about it instead of wasting time. Have as much fun as you can while you are a
kid and do as much as you can when you are a teenager and most importantly live everyday to
your highest expectations. The way I comprehended Herrick s ways of portraying the poem with
images and what it means tells how it makes me feel.
I really like this poem because it makes me want to get out of bed in the morning or turn off the
television and do something productive like read a book, or go to the gym. It perfectly reveals
the true meaning of carpe diem. The very first sentence alone tells me to get things done while I
can. Now when I think of To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time , it will remind me of carpe
diem, which will make me want to make every minute of my day account for something good

The Intellect Organism Of The Ecosystem Essay
Something that many people might not know is that we humans, are made up of organisms and
we also are the intellect organism of the ecosystem. Since we are the intellect organism, this
makes us responsible for the survival of nature and ecosystem. A lot of this generation has
forgotten about our ancestors who once lived like all other animals in ecosystem. These
ancestors would hunt for food and rely on the land for water, shelter and other basic needs.
Nevertheless, with time men have evolved and slowly distance themselves from nature. We
seem to now think we no longer need nature or ecosystem for survival. On the contrary, we only
exist because of nature and ecosystem. Society needs to acknowledge this and start working
towards ways to incorporate ecosystem in our daily lives as an essential; one way we can start
is by conserving one of earth s most valuable natural resource, water. What is the one thing
humans, plants, and animals all have in common? We all need water in order to survive. Water
is essential for the growth of greenery and it keeps all mammals bodies working properly.
Mammals bodies cannot survive without water for more than ten days. Water is, in the blood,
which carries oxygen to all the tiny cells in the body, without these cells the body will shut down.
Water also helps with the digestive system to digest the food we eat and the removal of waste
through urine and bowel movements. More than one billion people on Earth already lack access to

The Sun Also Rises A Feminist
The novel The Sun Also Rises written by Ernest Hemingway serves as history s unheard cloud of

How To Be Punished In The Canterbury Tales
While reading The Canterbury Tales I ve noticed some ill that should deem the character to be
punished and sent to Hell after death. While some of the people on the pilgrimage didn t commit
hideous crimes compared to others, some committed acts that furthers their reasoning to go to a
special dark place in Hell. Throughout the readings of The Divine Comedy and The Canterbury
Tales, I am now able to place these characters in their respective circle based on what Chaucer s
characters did. The Prioress who is the head of the nuns would be placed within the fourth circle of
Hell because of her greed. Nuns are traditionally known for being poor and having a simple life.
The Prioress on the other hand talks like she would live such a life but she would feed her dogs

The Cook belongs in the third circle of Hell which is reserved for gluttonous people. The Cook
is here basically because he was overweight because of his constant eating and his expertise in
cooking. The Reeve belongs to the fourth circle of hell, since the Reeve had access to his lord s
account, the Reeve was never put in debt since he used the money from his lord s account. This
made the Reeve to be a people to be feared by others since he couldn t be in debt and he knew the
ways of how others could put him to debt. I will put the Summoner in many circles of hell but
one that stands out for me is the third one. The Summoner would basically allow sinner to keep
sinner as long as he got a quart of wine. The Summoner would also demand money for the safety
from excommunication to gullible sinners. The Summoner is a disgusting and cheap fellow who
Chaucer despises because of one what he does to people even though he is a part of the church,
and his odd eating habits which reflects on his physical appearance. The Pardoner belongs to the

research paper will examine certain factors that contribute to the overall successes of the
Switzerland healthcare system such as out of pocket expenses, health statistics, the organization of
healthcare, the distribution of responsibility between the federal and local governments and the
income tax structure. By analyzing these elements, the strengths can be appreciated and new ideas

Therefore, the government plays a significant role in the socialized healthcare system. The
system s responsibilities are divided between federal, cantonal and municipal government levels.
The 26 cantons and 6 half cantons, which are like states, are responsible for the healthcare
present in each canton. It licenses providers, arranges and manages hospital services and
subsidized institutions and individual premiums. The federal government regulates the overall
payments and finances, ensures the safety and quality of medical equipment and pharmaceutical
drugs, supervise public health initiatives and supports medical research and training. The
municipalities are responsible for nursing homes and social support for susceptible groups
(Commonwealth Fund). Although the entire population, which was 8.42 million as of January

Guns Should Be Allowed In Schools Essay
On August 1, 1966 Charles Whitman opened fire from the University Of Texas Austin tower
killing 16 people. On August 1, 2016 A Texas law went into effect that allows concealed handguns
in college and university buildings in Texas. This law went into effect as the university held a
memorial for one of the deadliest shootings on a college campus. Guns do not belong in schools
and especially not on college campuses. Colleges should not allow guns because suiciderates would
go up, young adults tend to act more rashly, the college life is defined by excessive alcohol use
and would increase accidents shootings. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among

College campuses are not places where students should be carrying guns. This is because there is

in excess and suicide rates would increase. The risks to campus carry far outweigh the benefits and

Societal Standards In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
John The Savage experiences a rift from the civil society of London as a result of his
misunderstanding of that society s standards. Dwelling among the savages, he had believed that
the civilized world would be more accepting of him than the people of Malpais. However, his
experiences in the savage world had enlightened him in the deeper meaning of life, separating
him from the ignorantly blissful inhabitants of the civil world, and even his own mother. This
rift illuminates the text as a whole because it illustrates the perpetual theme that one who puts all
of their energy into fitting societal standards will never reach true happiness. If it had not been
for Linda s guilt in bearing a child, John may have had the opportunity to develop normally in
London, and it was her decision to stay on the reserve that set John s life in motion. Growing up
in Malpais, John contrasted with the dark haired, dark skinned aboriginals; his attempts to blend
in were futile as both his peers and his elders refused to let him in on the community events of
the tribe. However, this lead to his discovery of Time and Death and God (page 136), as well as his

examples that show dystopian in there novels. While both novels are science fiction, the Hunger

Effects Of Environment On The Environment
In many distinctive instants, change does not occur until something drastic happens; only then do
people begin to come to awareness. According to Physicians for Social Responsibilities ,
environmental factors are estimated to be responsible for approximately 80% of cancer diagnosis
and deaths in the U.S. alone. Children, animals, and life everywhere are suffering due to
consequences of environmental hazards. The detrimental consequences of unprotected
environments are much greater than many perceive; therefore, by limiting harmful methods of
environmental destruction and raising awareness these consequences may be decreased. The
amount of contamination in the Earth s water and atmosphere has increased tremendously over the
years. Factors such as fossil fuel combustion, water pollution, deforestation, toxic chemicals, and a
multitude of others all contribute greatly to the environmental harm that is being faced today.
Investigation has brought out evidence that pernicious industrial chemicals seem to be more
widespread throughout the environmentthan anticipated. The abundance of pollutants exposed to
the air and water we rely on may cause a variety of health defects and problematic issues to human,
animal, and plant life everywhere. Urban development, farming, deforestation, and the building of
dams have crippling effects on both the environments and the species that thrive in those locations.

CASE ANALYSIS
1. The main reason for the decaying employee morale was the quick growth of the business. Dr.
Perry s employees were well compensated at competitive market rates and enjoyed a pleasant
working environment. The annual growth of the business (15%) meant that his employees were
making relatively less money than Dr. Perry himself. The current pay structure did not have any
provision for any category of employees to earn a proportion of the profits. Every employee has a
fixed hourly salary. Thus, a bigger business meant that they felt like slave labourers since they
were aware of the increase in the practice s revenues and number of patients.
2. Dr. Perry s revenues largely depended on the hygienists who generated about 40% of the
revenues. Even the receptionists played a vital role in adding to the revenue by filling in cancelled
appointments. His assistants too contributed by playing the role of nurses by comforting the
patients which further helped in patient retention. Thus it would seem only fair that a part of the
profits must be shared with the employees in the form of a variable pay structure.
3. As per the conference which Dr. Perry had attended, the first approach of remunerating the
employees focused on the contribution of the hygienists only. As per this approach, the hygienists
would be paid purely on a commission basis of around 40% of the total earnings. The main

The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay
Theodore Roosevelt had once said, The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as
assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value . These
words have resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of
this planet to provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental
protection exactly? Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and
society are facing today. Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the
world have been burning an assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even
to cook with and when these fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other
chemicals which over time add up and take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap
heat from the sun in the earth s atmosphere raising the global temperature and causing a domino
effect on the environment. Likewise companies produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally
in waters which kills vast amounts of marine life. Although laws are in place to protect the planet,
inventions are slowly being created to provide alternative sources of energy and agencies already
exist to protect the environment. However it is our duty as people in a society to act on our own by
demanding for our government to show greater concern for the environment by reforming
environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines,

Turkey As A Country State
Turkey Turkey in my opinion is one the most underrated countries in the eastern world. It is a
beautiful country with an expansive culture and society. Turkey is essentially the bridge of
where the East meets the West in that area of the world. Founded in 1923, Turkey to this day is
one of the only country in the world with a Muslim Democracy. Its interesting political history
combined with the rich culture that resides in Turkey creates a very unique nation states. But
how exactly did Turkey become the nation state it is today, and what even makes it a nation state
in the first place? These are questions that must be addressed in order to truly understand Turkey
as a country. In order to look at the history of Turkey, we have to understand what a nation state
truly is. It isn t quite the same as either a nation or a state, but somewhere in between. A state,
according to An Introduction to Global Studies, is a fixed territory with boundaries, a population,
a government, and the capacity to enter into relation with other states (Campbell et al, 32). While
this description sounds awfully similar to a nation, there are actually some key differences. A
nation is actually a shared culture or ethnic identity, instead of being legally recognized by
geography. Nations are not based on territory, but instead based on culture. So, with these
differentiations between a nation and a state, a nation state is a nice blend of the two. A nation
state is a very specific kind of state,

Analysis Of The United States Is Responsible For A Film...
Bivariate Analysis
The United States is responsible for a film industry that is forever expanding and making a
world of difference to films being screened worldwide. Primarily there are two types of films that
a studio will choose to produce. The first being a blockbuster film which is defined as a very
popular or successful, usually big budget production. Blockbuster films are generically very popular
with the public and captivate the audience. The public become invested in these movies through the
advertising of the film and have a strong inclination to watch the film when they re released.
Their intention as defined by Wikipedia is to emphasize spectacle, star power, and high
production value, all of which entail an enormous budget (Wikipedia, 2015). The second type of
film produced is an independent film produced mostly or completely outside of the major film
studio system. Whilst both films have differing objectives and production techniques, they both
share a common requirement; the ability to make a profit from their effort. The overall
expenditure of a film is usually split into creative and technical costs which cover all bases of the
costs involved with creating a film. It is therefore considerably important for a film to earn ample
profit in order to not only cover the cost involved with creating the movie, but for a sizeable profit
to be made.
The data my investigation is based around, is retrieved from The Internet Movie Database (IMDb).

Sully Film Analysis
When Warner Bros. released Sully earlier this year, I thought it looked decent. I assumed Tom
Hanks would give a reliably good performance as the titular pilot. I guessed Clint Eastwood would
tell the story effectively. I even speculated that the film might garner some attention from the
Oscars. While I cannot yet speak to that less assumption, my other feelings about Sully proved true.
This film, billed as the untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson, stars Hanks as Captain
Chesley Sully Sullenberger, the pilot who landed his aircraft on the Hudson river after a freak
accident in 2009. Rather than simply telling the story leading up to the forced water landing,
however, the picture chronicles the tumultuous aftermath of what ... Show more content on

I specifically think of the passengers calling their loved ones, finding their fellow passengers alive
after the landing and thanking Sully as moments that made me choke up a little. Another highlight
is the simple reaction shots that Eastwood shows us of businesspeople in the skyscrapers as they
see a plane hurtling toward the city. That was as a simple and understated way to underscore the
heroism of Sully s action by making us visualize the alternative.
With all that being said, the storytelling here wasn t flawless. Sully takes a somewhat
unconventional approach by showing the aftermath of the crash and focusing on the investigation,
but for the most part the film felt safe and predictable. Every plot beat and character action, even the
effective ones, felt generic and familiar, but in a bad way. I m not sure what I would have wanted
the filmmakers to do instead, but they should have done something to switch things up a little.
Nevertheless, Sully is still a very good movie. Hanks is quite good and Eckhart does well in his
role. The story is economical and moving, even if a little too safe. Sully probably isn t going to be
most people s favorite movie of the year, but it has earned a spot on top 10 lists for 2016, even if it

Phases Of Interrogation At The Most Comfortable
Phases of interrogation The first phase of the interrogation is to establish the norm. This is done
to determine the general behavior of the subject, as the goal is to establish the characteristics of
the subject at the most comfortable. As a result, the interviewer can then interpret the subject s
behavior and communication as the interrogation goes on. The second phase is to build
credibility. The interviewer describes his or her job and experiences, giving examples of situations
that are commonly encountered, and judges the subject s reactions along the way. The interviewer
s goal in building credibility is to convince the subject that he or she is caught of committing a
crime without stating any accusations or revealing evidence. The third phase is to create an
opportunity for the subject to save face and transfer blame. The interviewer guides the subject into
telling the truth. The goal is to make the subject feel better about admitting the truth by finding a
socially acceptable reason for being honest. The subject will feel better about telling the truth if he
or she feels that admitting what happened is better than being caught lying, and if the reason for
the crime was for non malicious reasons. The fourth phase is to establish a sense of urgency. In
this phase, the interviewer explains to the subject that he or she has a limited amount of time to tell
the company his or her side of the story. The interviewer explains that the company may make a

What Does Light Symbolize In Macbeth
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, an effective technique is the use of symbolism
throughout the text. This technique helped me to understand the important message of; evil over
good and the lust for power. The weather, symbolism of blood and of light vs dark helped me to
understand the main idea of evil. This play discusses the idea that all of us have evil inside of us,
although unlike Macbethmost of us don t choose to act upon such evil, and that committing evil will
always turn out bad for you.
One aspect of symbolism in the play that shows evil doesn t do any good is that of the weather. At
the very beginning of the play when the audience first meets the witches they are discussing the
weather; when shall we three meet again In thunder, lightning, or in rain? With this... Show more

Whenever a murder is done it is at night time so that it is dark. Come seeling night Macbeth
says. He says this dialogue on the evening before he murders Duncan, he feels guilty about the
evil his is about to commit. I think Shakespeare uses this technique of symbolising light vs dark
to show the audience how Macbeth is feeling towards all this evil he is committing. Terrible
deeds are always to be committed in the dark. This is shown by the dialogue stars, hide your
fires; let not light see my black and deep desires . Macbeth doesn t want there to be stars in the
sky because he doesn t want them to shine their light on his evil and murderous thoughts.
Shakespeare purposely uses the darkness to show the audience what Macbeth is about to do. In
the light of the day we feel safe, but in the darkness we fear it because we don t know what is
there that we cannot see. Most of the play is set in the dark which reflects on Macbeth s evil
thoughts and actions throughout the play. The Jacobeans know that Scotland is no longer safe
because it falls into and endless darkness with all Macbeths evil

The DAC is located on Madison Street in the heart of Detroit. The founders of the DAC went to
Albert Kahn to be the architect. Twenty two bidders nationwide bided on this project. The board
members wanted the project to be all Detroit from start to finish, even if that meant going higher
than the lowest bidder. The contract was awarded to Vinton Company of Detroit for over
$600,000. Over forty subcontractors and supplier companies joined in on the project. Kahn was
a successful architect of the automobile companies of the city of Detroit. His ideas are inspired
from Italian Renaissance palaces in Florence, Italy. They chose Kahn because he had a plan of
open interiors and the use of reinforced concrete, and exterior of brick and stone. It took him
months to design the layout of the building which ended up being six floors plus two mezzanine
levels. The project required 1,350 tons of structural frame steelwork. The main entrance was to be
off Madison Street. The face of the building was set to be made of Bedford limestone. When you
walked through the main doors you enter the lobby which embedded the Italian Renaissance feel

Tom Szaky, Chief Executive And Founder Of Terracycle

Imagine he has hired you as Vice President of Sales. Now answer these questions as completely as

1) How do you imagine the concepts of anagnorisis and peripeteia might work in this example? (1
point)
Peripeteia means a turning point or a reversal moment, while anagnorisis means a point where a
person becomes aware of his or her true nature. Tom is in turning point of his life because
turning a waste into something else is not what majority people would think of, most of us will
be disgusted by only thinking about the concept. However not for Tom, he is actually passionate
in the ecological concept and his belief of doing good and making good money at the same time,
which is what anagnorisis means. Just like the pig farmers who gathered all the wastes from big
casinos in Las Vegas, and fed his pigs with very nutritious food that eventually double size them,
Tom could do the same! Tom could utilize the waste and turn it into something profitable. He
has to believe in himself and just like Jared says, as long as you like what you re doing, people
will be drawn into that positivity. He needs to be brave because this is not what majority of people
could think of, or even brave enough to do, so he should be the stand out one and

How Organizations are Changing in the World Today
The natural forces that bring companies together are dissipating in the communications and
information technologies industries. Core competencies that form much of the force of economies
of scope are becoming increasingly narrowed and specialized, leading us to industry fragmentation
in the information revolution contrasting against the industry consolidation that accompanied the
industrial revolution. If we look behind the curtain of public policy dressed in its diverse laws and
regulations, we see less rather than more gravity drawing the communications industry into
operational or financial consolidation. Neither vertical nor horizontal integration of
communications related businesses appears compellingly natural. The rate of technological
advancements (and apparent lack of economies of scale that such behemoths as Bell Labs once
enjoyed) allows industry giants to be toppled at unprecedented rates. Instead we see a growing
value in cooperatively developed integrative standards that will marry such distant cousins as
content to conduit, computing to transportation, appliance functionality to communications.
Thus, consolidation of firms has greater value in its portfolio effect than in economies of scope and
scale (the uncertainty of just which information and communications products will be successful
carries risks that can be mitigated by having a portfolio of such products). The present rate of
technological change in the information and communications industries also

Evaluating Safety Culture And Sms Implementation
Assessing Safety Culture SMS Implementation
Safety culture is defined as consisting of shared beliefs, practices and attitudes, that exist at an
establishment. Culture is the atmosphere created by those beliefs, attitudes, etc. (Middlesworth, M.,
February 19). In recent years, safety culture has become an aspect which most, if not all,
companies and organizations require in order to succeed. What is difficult is how to measure or
assess the safety culture currently present in that organization. What one can do to assess whether
or not a company promotes a positive safety culture is to look at 6 critical components:
organizational commitment, managerial involvement, employee empowerment, accountability
system, communication and a reporting system. A successful company with a positive safety
culture will consist of the majority of the aforementioned components. Without these elements, a
company s safety culture will appear non existent and even if a safety management system is
utilized, it may not be enough to promote the proper safety culture. By identifying specific
characteristics of each component we will be able to recognize how to build a positive safety
culture and how to implement an effective SMS.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is an astounding work of architecture. Leonard Koscianski finished
designing this work in 1991, but the process of construction lasted almost a decade. The cost of the
building ended up exceeding the original figures, which slowed construction. With donations from
private sources, including the Disney family and The Walt DisneyCompany, The Walt Disney

California. It was the fourth hall to join the Los Angeles Music Center. The concert hall is in no
way normal but that is what Frank Gehry is known for. Gehry s architectural works fall under the

  • 2. Comparing Grendel And Beowulf After reading the classic Anglo Saxon tale, Beowulf, readers find themselves engrossed in the character of Grendel. This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells Grendel s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality and morals. While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different. Beowulfs predictable narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while Grendelis filled with complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to decipher. The analyzation required to truly understand Grendel displays the varying audiences the stories were written for. Grendel and Beowulf also use completely different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theme coming of age is included in both compositions. Throughout Grendel, Grendel struggles to come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood and childhood. For example, after getting stuck in a tree, Grendel cries out for his mother and then moments later contemplates the meaning of life: The king snatched an ax from the man beside him and, without any warning, he hurled it at me... I bellowed for my mother...I tried to tell her that happened, all that I d come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s shows Grendel s gradual coming of age. Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure many quests that challenge him not only physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as well. Beowulf has to question many of the things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that he needs to accept help in the end and does not always have to accomplish things on his own, something he uses to his advantage in later battles. Altogether, both Grendel and Beowulf ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Maximilien Robespierre And The Reign Of Terror Of The... Maximilien Robespierre was a revolutionary who significantly influenced and justified the Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror was a dark and violent time during the French Revolution. It began when the Girondins were overthrown by the Jacobins, who were led by Robespierre. Later, the members of the government had lost to the Jacobins and sans culottes, thus the king was executed. The Jacobins were the driving force of the Reign of Terror, while Robespierre was the mastermind. The Girondins were a branch of the Jacobins but they were conservatives and less radical. The Jacobins were the most radical and ruthless of the political groups, and they identified themselves with the common people, also known as the sans culottes. In response to their poverty stricken life under the Ancien RГ©gime, most of the sans culottes became revolutionaries and militant supporters of the French Revolution. The sans culottes saw popular violence as a political right, therefore they attacked anything or anyone who was against the revolution. They were determined to avoid street violence, hence taking violence into their own hands as an instrument of the government. (Linton, Marisa 2006) In association with Robespierre, the Jacobins started the Reign of Terror. Robespierre and the Jacobins began to concentrate their power in spreading the Reign of Terror when they dominated the National Convention. Without delay, they made various harsh laws to frighten anyone who disagreed with them. There were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cognitive Behavioral Theory Essay Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a short term, problem centered therapy that is used to address psychopathology within the individual (Beck, 1995). This model of therapy is used to address issues of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, relational problems, and drug abuse, and can be utilized when working with individuals, as well as within group and family modalities. The core aspects of this therapy include collaboration and participation by the client, a strong alliance between therapist and client, and an initial focus on current problems and functioning (Beck, 1995). The theory of CBT emphasizes the relationship between the individual s thoughts feelings and behaviors, which is seen as being the underlying cause of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once an automatic thought occurs within the individual, it triggers a feeling, which in turn triggers the individual s response, such as a behavior and/or physiological response. For example, after a young child begins to pick up his blocks to be put away, his mother rubs him on the back and gives him praise for his actions. His automatic thought may be, I am good when I put away blocks, triggering a feeling of confidence, an increased level of physical energy, and the behavior of putting away the remaining blocks. Automatic thoughts can be neutral, positive, or negative. We all have our own automatic thoughts as we move through our day to day lives and interact with others. In regards to individuals with psychological disorders, the cognitive model looks at how negative thoughts influence the individual s feelings and behaviors (Beck, 1995). From a CBT lens, it is the negative automatic thoughts that an individual has that perpetuate symptoms of psychological disorders, the occurrence of negative mood, uncomfortable physiological responses, and maladaptive or inappropriate behaviors (Beck, 1995). While we all have moments of experiencing negative automatic thoughts, for those with psychological disorders, and more pervasive difficulties in living, negative thoughts are often experienced in situations that are neutral, producing negative feelings that lead to maladaptive behaviors or responses that would not ... Student Name:Omar Merhi Subject Name:Maintain network protection and control systems (complex) Assignment topic:Safe disposal of insulation Material Assignment Number:1 Date: 30/3/11 Number of pages:4 Teacher:Craig Tooke Safe Disposal of Insulation Material There have been various types of Insulating materials used within the electrical power industry since the beginning of electrical power. And over the years scientist and environmentalist have discovered that most if not all insulating materials are harmful to the human body or the environment in one way or another, being shot term or long term exposures. First of all, the term insulating material refers to a substance that has the ability to resist electrical energy flow to make a conductor or copper wire safe to touch by human hands for instance. But all these insulating materials will break down at a certain limit if the power is strong enough, so this tells us that there is no such thing as a perfect insulator. This example explained above is one use for an insulating material within the electrical power industry. Insulators serve many advanced purposes and conditions. Be it Arc suppression within circuit breakers or voltage insulation on power lines, or even protective equipment worn by electrical workers. A majority of these insulating materials have been known to cause health hazards to humans and environmental hazards to the environment which will be discussed in a bit more detail further on, and ... Marilyn Manson has been pushing the envelope of the right to freedom of expression since his controversial shock rock antics began in the early 1990 s. His methods are strange and rejected by most of society, as it cannot understand what he is trying to achieve. Many people believe that Marilyn Mansonis bizarre, seeing him wearing women s clothing, applying heavy facial makeup, and covering himself with jewelry. His success can be attributed not only to his entertainment abilities, but even more so to the incredible marketing campaign organized to promote himself and his crazy actions. All of this is what Brian Warner was, and who Marilyn Manson was to become. (Long, Manson and Strauss) As Manson s reputation developed, so did the disturbance surrounding him and his actions. His concerts were regularly protested by civil rights groups, and his music was the target attacks from religious and more specifically, Christian groups. This image was created using Manson s genius for marketing. At the peak of this controversy, Manson had a cover story in Rolling Stone Magazine as well as a best selling autobiography: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell. Why Does He Have Such A Following? Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. • 7. Dna Testing And The Criminal Justice System Convictions prior to the advancement of DNA testing in the criminal justice system were commonly found to be later wrongful and due to eyewitness misidentification (Scheck Neufeld, 2001). Hence, there has been increasing research by psychologists in eyewitness memory and particularly in line up practices. In criminal identification, a simultaneous line up (SIM) is typically used and involves presenting the witness with all line up suspects at once with the offender (target) placed amongst other innocent suspects (foils) that resemble the offender (Wells Olsen, 2003). With these conditions, witnesses have a tendency to compare suspects with each other in order to determine the one that have the closest resemblance with the offender, a process called relative judgement (Steblay, Dysart, Fulero Lindsay, 2001). In the simultaneous line ups with target present, there are more hits as the closest resemblance is the perpetrator but while in target absent conditions, the closest matching foil is often picked and resulting in more false alarms (Steblay, Dysart, Fulero Lindsay, 2001). Therefore, to prevent the potential of misidentification, alternative line up presentations have been developed to inhibit relative judgement processes such as sequential line up in Lindsay and Wells (1985). Sequential line ups (SEQ) involves presenting a line up of photos in a sequential format and eyewitnesses can only view the photo once and must determined whether the photo matches the ... When I decided to take this course I was expecting to get an A, because I believed that Econ 120 was going to be similar to my Econ class on high school; unfortunately, it was not. Econ 120 is more challenging. My lower level of performance is on the multiple choice part of the exam, because I had been doing good on the writing portion on the test, since I try to prepare to the best of my capacity. Sarah Jeannette Duncan s a Mother in India Sarah Jeannette Duncan s A Mother in India Patriarchal Victorian Men Create Monstrous Victorian Women 706 Words A Mother in India, as a story depends on the facade of appearance and the reality of emotional abandonment within a male dominated Victorian society. Duncan s point is that Victorian men create monstrous Victorian women. Relationships of any emotional worth are rendered impossible between Helena and her daughter Cecily because of a life long separation imposed by the father. It is impossible for Helena to be Cecily s emotional or spiritual mother because Helena is not emotionally equipped to be anything else other than a servant to her husband. She does what she is allowed to do and little else. Her husband did not allow Cecily s return until she was twenty one years old because he simply would not hear of her coming before (15). Helena is expected to be maternal with a young woman whom she has not been allowed to raise. This is an un fair position to be placed in by a requently absent husband. Helena does not want to feel old and is resolved to be young until [she] is old (15). She would rather not be reminded of her middle age by the maternally successful Mrs. Morgan or the presence of her youthful attractive daughter. With her daughter present she will lose the status of lady and gain attention as the mother of a twenty one year old woman. The relationship is tagged on too late by a pathetic father and a totally in experienced mother who is now beyond caring. Cecily is the victim of the self centred human garbage that is her parents. This story is an attack on Victorian domesticity and the pitfalls of being a mother in those times. Helena being a product of her society was incapable of being a mother at the age of forty and it is doubtful she could have been anything else other than a servant to her husband. Cecily did not stand a chance of having a meaningful relationship with her mother and is to be pitied as a character in such a dark, lamentable story. Using a destitute tone consistently throughout the first stanza, Owen creates a specific atmosphere. Giving objects life through extensive personification, and comparing them through many similes. Owen also gives us a clear depiction of how he saw war, being a soldier himself against the backdrop of WWI, Owen had a strong opposition to war and suffered himself from shell shock. A portion of his poem in the last stanza is a direct reference to Jessie Pope, a pro war poet. In the first stanza, the entire tone is dreary and completely void of any positive qualities. In the fourth stanza, Owen begins by writing in some smothering dreams you too could pace (17) reinforcing that he lives this memory in his dreams, and that the closest someone who hasn t had their experience of war could truly understand is through some horrific dream. The Paracingulate sulcus is a structure in the brain that is associated with our monitoring of what is reality and what is not. With out this monitoring system people end up with disorders such as schizophrenia. The New York Times interprets the results of a study published by the University of Cambridge and University of Melbourne on the effects of the Paracingulate sulcus on how peoplemonitor what is reality. The Study, A Specific Brain Structural Basis for Individual Differences in Reality Monitoring, examines a variety of researchon the matter and presents the hypothesis that the people with out a Paracingulate sulcus will have poorer monitoring of memory compared to people with a clear Paracingulate sulcus on either one or both sides of the brain. Even though both articles explain the exact same research, it is interesting to see the many differences of the two articles. The article was chosen for more then its connection to cognition and what is being studied in class. The article interested both participants in more ways than one. The idea of reality being a perception that changes from person to person is not something people think about explicitly. It is merely by reading the article that one can take interest in the fact that each person perceives the world a different way. Even more so, this perception can be altered by having, or not having, a specific structure in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Gender Stereotypes In The Hollywood Industry In continuation, the Hollywood industry reinforces gender stereotypes through various forms of media. The films and advertisements that construct gender stereotypes are perpetuated by the media. The stereotypes include that men are powerful, successful, and employ women for films and television shows, whereas women are fragile, underrepresented, and need assistance in order to become successful. For example, Weinstein was able to manipulate several women that he could give them a career and help them succeed in the industry in return for sexual favors and his advantage was his powerful position as a man in the Hollywood industry. In continuation, Trump used his position to degrade women, for example he called a famous actress Heidi Klum unattractive and not a ten on his scale of attractiveness. Trump considers his right to be surrounded by beautiful women and cannot distinguish between a women s value from her physical appearance. After Trump and Weinstein were accused of sexual harassment , people on social media started a campaign called #MeToo which allowed women and men from all over the world share their stories about sexual assault and harassment. The campaign consisted of speeches, protests, and awareness of how many people are dealing with and experience harassment on a daily basis. The purpose of the #MeToo movement was simply an attempt to get people to understand the prevalence of sexual harassment and assault in society and to get women, and men, to raise their ... The lack of political representation under the Union Act of 1840 provided very few rights for local government, which was perceived as a danger if the new confederate policies were to be instituted in 1864. In this case, William Annand s leadership in the Anti Confederacy Party in Nova Scotia provided more seats in the provincial legislature, which resulted in a rejection of the Quebec resolution (Beck 56). More so, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were often marginalized in these discussions, since they were not as economically powerful as Quebec or Ontario. In this case, the Confederacy Party of Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Charles Tupper, had temporarily failed to win over the people to federalization. The distrust between the Nova Scotia parliament and the mainland provinces was a major barrier to Confederacy due to a lack of representational government under the Union Act: In Nova Scotia, William Annand contended: It was a matter of very serious import to the people of this province when they learned from such an authority that their rights and privileges were to be swept away without their being consulted (Ajzenstat ... • 16. Jonah John Piper Essay In The Education of a Prophet: Jonah John Piper discusses the idea of Christians that have strong racist views. He starts his sermon by talking about his hometown church and its racist members, then he compares these people to members of the Ku Klux Klan, and last of all he discussed the nationalistic views Jonah had. Piper had found the idea of Christians harboring racist views troubling and made several arguments on why Christians cannot be racist. According to John Piper, church members of his mother s church are racists because they voted against blacks from attending their congregation; however the members are Christians and yet they harbor such racist views. Then Piper claims that this racism is contrary to the spirit of Jesus Christ who told us to love our enemies and to do good to those who hate us (Luke 6:27, 28). This had baffled Piper, how could these Christians possess such racist views? I think Piper cleared this issue up when brought up the story of The Good Samaritan . The East India Company ( Eic ) A corporation, as defined by the Business Dictionary, is a Firm that meets certain legal requirements to be recognized as having a legal existence, as an entity separate and distinct from its owners. One of the earliest known corporations was the East India company (EIC), receiving its Royal Charter from Queen Elizabeth I, in 1600, which granted it the right to incorporate during a time when most people were either sole proprietors or in partnerships. The EIC was a charter company whose most lucrative commodity was tea, opium and textiles. Their power and influence was unparalleled and unyielding, acting as a governing authority in places with weak or no governments. By taking control of the Bengal opium industry, they were able to trade opium for tea in China, using the excess gains to buy textiles in Bengal and use them to trade for slaves in Africa, which ultimately they sold for gold in America. These army backed bandits were above the law and beneath the bailout. By the time of their eventual demise, the world had changed and laws were put into place to prevent another EIC era, which better fit Ambrose Bierce s Devil s Dictionary description of a corporationas, an ingenious device for obtaining profit without individual responsibility . When a person s mind tells them they are different, than they can be classified as an outsider, which means that feeling of being original is all in the mind. In The Outsiders, two social classes; greasers and Socs show that outsiders can be both inside and outside groups. They also show the role of dichotomy in discrimination. Since we are the intellect organism, this makes us responsible for the survival of nature and ecosystem. These ancestors would hunt for food and rely on the land for water, shelter and other basic needs. Nevertheless, with time men have evolved and slowly distance themselves from nature. We seem to now think we no longer need nature or ecosystem for survival. On the contrary, we only exist because of nature and ecosystem. Society needs to acknowledge this and start working towards ways to incorporate ecosystem in our daily lives as an essential; one way we can start is by conserving one of earth s most valuable natural resource, water. • 33. Effects Of Environment On The Environment In many distinctive instants, change does not occur until something drastic happens; only then do people begin to come to awareness. According to Physicians for Social Responsibilities , environmental factors are estimated to be responsible for approximately 80% of cancer diagnosis and deaths in the U.S. alone. Children, animals, and life everywhere are suffering due to consequences of environmental hazards. The detrimental consequences of unprotected environments are much greater than many perceive; therefore, by limiting harmful methods of environmental destruction and raising awareness these consequences may be decreased. The amount of contamination in the Earth s water and atmosphere has increased tremendously over the years. Factors such as fossil fuel combustion, water pollution, deforestation, toxic chemicals, and a multitude of others all contribute greatly to the environmental harm that is being faced today. Investigation has brought out evidence that pernicious industrial chemicals seem to be more widespread throughout the environmentthan anticipated. The abundance of pollutants exposed to the air and water we rely on may cause a variety of health defects and problematic issues to human, animal, and plant life everywhere. He was a benevolent boss. CASE ANALYSIS 1. The main reason for the decaying employee morale was the quick growth of the business. Dr. Perry s employees were well compensated at competitive market rates and enjoyed a pleasant working environment. The annual growth of the business (15%) meant that his employees were making relatively less money than Dr. Perry himself. The current pay structure did not have any provision for any category of employees to earn a proportion of the profits. Every employee has a fixed hourly salary. Thus, a bigger business meant that they felt like slave labourers since they were aware of the increase in the practice s revenues and number of patients. 2. Dr. Perry s revenues largely depended on the hygienists who generated about 40% of the revenues. Even the receptionists played a vital role in adding to the revenue by filling in cancelled appointments. His assistants too contributed by playing the role of nurses by comforting the patients which further helped in patient retention. Thus it would seem only fair that a part of the profits must be shared with the employees in the form of a variable pay structure. 3. As per the conference which Dr. Perry had attended, the first approach of remunerating the employees focused on the contribution of the hygienists only. As per this approach, the hygienists would be paid purely on a commission basis of around 40% of the total earnings. The main advantages of this system are: It

The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay Theodore Roosevelt had once said, The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value . These words have resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of this planet to provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental protection exactly? Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and society are facing today. Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the world have been burning an assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even to cook with and when these fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals which over time add up and take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the sun in the earth s atmosphere raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the environment. Likewise companies produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters which kills vast amounts of marine life. Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions are slowly being created to provide alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to protect the environment. However it is our duty as people in a society to act on our own by demanding for our government to show greater concern for the environment by reforming environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines, ... Turkey is essentially the bridge of where the East meets the West in that area of the world. Founded in 1923, Turkey to this day is one of the only country in the world with a Muslim Democracy. Its interesting political history combined with the rich culture that resides in Turkey creates a very unique nation states. But how exactly did Turkey become the nation state it is today, and what even makes it a nation state in the first place? These are questions that must be addressed in order to truly understand Turkey as a country. In order to look at the history of Turkey, we have to understand what a nation state truly is. It isn t quite the same as either a nation or a state, but somewhere in between. A state, according to An Introduction to Global Studies, is a fixed territory with boundaries, a population, a government, and the capacity to enter into relation with other states (Campbell et al, 32). While this description sounds awfully similar to a nation, there are actually some key differences. A nation is actually a shared culture or ethnic identity, instead of being legally recognized by geography. Nations are not based on territory, but instead based on culture. So, with these differentiations between a nation and a state, a nation state is a nice blend of the two. A nation state is a very specific kind of state, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Analysis Of The United States Is Responsible For A Film... Bivariate Analysis The United States is responsible for a film industry that is forever expanding and making a world of difference to films being screened worldwide. Primarily there are two types of films that a studio will choose to produce. The first being a blockbuster film which is defined as a very popular or successful, usually big budget production. Blockbuster films are generically very popular with the public and captivate the audience. The public become invested in these movies through the advertising of the film and have a strong inclination to watch the film when they re released. Their intention as defined by Wikipedia is to emphasize spectacle, star power, and high production value, all of which entail an enormous budget (Wikipedia, 2015). The second type of film produced is an independent film produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system. Whilst both films have differing objectives and production techniques, they both share a common requirement; the ability to make a profit from their effort. The overall expenditure of a film is usually split into creative and technical costs which cover all bases of the costs involved with creating a film. It is therefore considerably important for a film to earn ample profit in order to not only cover the cost involved with creating the movie, but for a sizeable profit to be made. The data my investigation is based around, is retrieved from The Internet Movie Database (IMDb). The information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I guessed Clint Eastwood would tell the story effectively. I even speculated that the film might garner some attention from the Oscars. While I cannot yet speak to that less assumption, my other feelings about Sully proved true. This film, billed as the untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson, stars Hanks as Captain Chesley Sully Sullenberger, the pilot who landed his aircraft on the Hudson river after a freak accident in 2009. Rather than simply telling the story leading up to the forced water landing, however, the picture chronicles the tumultuous aftermath of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I specifically think of the passengers calling their loved ones, finding their fellow passengers alive after the landing and thanking Sully as moments that made me choke up a little. Another highlight is the simple reaction shots that Eastwood shows us of businesspeople in the skyscrapers as they see a plane hurtling toward the city. That was as a simple and understated way to underscore the heroism of Sully s action by making us visualize the alternative. With all that being said, the storytelling here wasn t flawless. Sully takes a somewhat unconventional approach by showing the aftermath of the crash and focusing on the investigation, but for the most part the film felt safe and predictable. Every plot beat and character action, even the effective ones, felt generic and familiar, but in a bad way. I m not sure what I would have wanted the filmmakers to do instead, but they should have done something to switch things up a little. Nevertheless, Sully is still a very good movie. Hanks is quite good and Eckhart does well in his role. The story is economical and moving, even if a little too safe. This play discusses the idea that all of us have evil inside of us, although unlike Macbethmost of us don t choose to act upon such evil, and that committing evil will always turn out bad for you. • 51. How Organizations are Changing in the World Today The natural forces that bring companies together are dissipating in the communications and information technologies industries. Core competencies that form much of the force of economies of scope are becoming increasingly narrowed and specialized, leading us to industry fragmentation in the information revolution contrasting against the industry consolidation that accompanied the industrial revolution. If we look behind the curtain of public policy dressed in its diverse laws and regulations, we see less rather than more gravity drawing the communications industry into operational or financial consolidation. Neither vertical nor horizontal integration of communications related businesses appears compellingly natural. The rate of technological advancements (and apparent lack of economies of scale that such behemoths as Bell Labs once enjoyed) allows industry giants to be toppled at unprecedented rates. Instead we see a growing value in cooperatively developed integrative standards that will marry such distant cousins as content to conduit, computing to transportation, appliance functionality to communications. Thus, consolidation of firms has greater value in its portfolio effect than in economies of scope and scale (the uncertainty of just which information and communications products will be successful carries risks that can be mitigated by having a portfolio of such products). The present rate of technological change in the information and communications industries also ... Culture is the atmosphere created by those beliefs, attitudes, etc. (Middlesworth, M., February 19). In recent years, safety culture has become an aspect which most, if not all, companies and organizations require in order to succeed. What is difficult is how to measure or assess the safety culture currently present in that organization. What one can do to assess whether or not a company promotes a positive safety culture is to look at 6 critical components: organizational commitment, managerial involvement, employee empowerment, accountability system, communication and a reporting system. A successful company with a positive safety culture will consist of the majority of the aforementioned components. Without these elements, a company s safety culture will appear non existent and even if a safety management system is utilized, it may not be enough to promote the proper safety culture. By identifying specific characteristics of each component we will be able to recognize how to build a positive safety culture and how to implement an effective SMS. Leonard Koscianski finished designing this work in 1991, but the process of construction lasted almost a decade. The cost of the building ended up exceeding the original figures, which slowed construction. With donations from private sources, including the Disney family and The Walt DisneyCompany, The Walt Disney Concert Hallfinally opened on October 24, 2003. The cost of the concert hall was roughly 274 million dollars, and seats 2,265 people. The concert hall is located in downtown Los Angeles, California. • 56. Walt Disney Recession It would be true to say that the Walt Disney Company receives large amounts of its money from the resort and theme park subsidiaries. With attendance levels at similar levels from prior years it was due to the fact that fewer guests had excess spending cash to use, and also reduced the amount of income from merchandising. As a way to fight the recession ticket prices steadily increased after the recession and due to the inflation of ticket prices less and less people were attending parks causing the Walt DisneyCompany as a whole to loss great amounts of profits.
