Paul Laurence Dunbar And Maya Angelou Comparison
For each of us, freedom plays a very important role in this life. With me, I think there is nothing
which is greater than we are free to do what we want to do, dream what we want to dream or
simply, eat what we want to eat. We all worship freedom. I or Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya
Angelou do too. Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya Angelou expressed their freedom through their
poems which are Sympathy and Caged Bird in a very personal, dramatic and profound way.
Although we were published in two different times, I feel that these two poems also have harmonies
in ideas or the way the authors think about freedom in them. Besides, each of them contains their
own characteristics which make them have their own colors and meaning. During the civil rights
era, the racism, that horrible system that discriminates against people based on... Show more content

Maya Angelou and Paul Larence Dunbar were African American, who grew up in that era so
they experienced and felt the sadness and pain that Africa Americans when they became slaves
for White people received at that time. From the same feeling, the same inspiration, the poems
express their feeling when they used to face with that discrimination in their life every single
day. The poems also assert the importance of freedom and its value in life. Besides the
coincidence of the subject and circumstances of the birth of these two poems, there is another
interesting similiar thing is that the image of a bird which is trapped in a cage is used as a
metaphor to symbolize African Americans who suffered racial discrimination during this period. I
feel this is a very interesting metaphor. That same point also makes the poems special and have
very personal beauty , not to be confused with other poems. Birds are always associated as a
symbol of freedom. Everyone

Compare And Contrast Antigone And Othello
Antigone was brave to stand up against the men in charge in her time and she died not because
she necessarily had a flaw but because she never gave upon her beliefs. Othello s flaw was
succumbing to jealousy which leads to his downfall. While both characters can be considered
tragic hero s we can see many similarities and differences as we observe them through Aristotle s
definition of a tragic hero. Aristotle breaks down tragic hero s by the hamartia, hubris, and the
peripeteia. These describe the downfall of a hero, their reversal in fortune, and the disrespect for the
natural order of things. After comparing Antigone and Othellothrough Aristotle s definition of a
tragic hero, I believe that Antigone is closer to a true tragic hero than Othello.
While Antigone did not have a thematic flaw like Othello did, her headstrong attitude and
unwillingness to let her Uncle Creon giver her brother Polyneices an improper burial would set the
chain of events leading to her downfall. The Hamartia is the tragic flaw that causes the hero s
downfall, and in this sense the greater tragedy is that Antigone could not escape death because her
character strongly believed the laws of the Heavens were greater than those of Creon s. No
matter how she chose to argue against Creon, her end result would have been grave, they
considered stoning her before locking her in a tomb and starving her. Antigone ultimately decided
to take her own life rather than have her convictions broken, something we can clearly see when
she boldly states If life must be a thing of fear and lying and compromise; if life cannot be free,
gallant, incorruptible then, Creon, I choose death! .
Othello was a beloved and respected general in the Venetian army, but through a paranoid fit of
jealousy he conspires with Iago to kill his wife and her thought to be lover Cassio. While it is
clear that the theme of Othello is jealousy, the green eyed monster , Othello never has solid proof
of the affair. Most of the evidence is circumstantial, but word of mouth through Iago coupled with
Othello s extreme jealousy pushes him to desire to murder his wife Desdemona and close friend
Cassio. Othello claims to have a profound love for Desdemona but it simply takes one

Who Is Lost In La Mancha
Lost in La Mancha is a 2002 documentary about Terry Gilliam s unfinished film The Man Who
Killed Don Quixote which broke down as the result of a variety of issues seen in the various
stages of production. Issues include a lack of money to produce the film, illness, weather problems,
issues with poorly trained horses, poor organisation for the location of the filmand the absence of
an adequate amount of rehearsal beforehand. Before any production took place, before even pre
production begun one of Terry Gilliams financers pulled out of the project, so his initial 40 million
dollar budget turned into 32. One of his actors was diagnosed with a prostate infection just minutes
before taking the flight to the film set, and the other actors didn t even arrive till a week... Show

He s tried many times before to create the film, he has a very unique vision and eccentric
imagination. This is why he was forced to film in Europe; America didn t want to spend so
much money on a film as out there as it was too much of a risk. The main mistake Terry Gilliam
made was continuing to film after one of his financers pulled out, taking 8 million dollars out of
the previous 40 million dollar budget they had. He should have tried to find another financer and
just delay the production of the film. But even with such a financial setback he failed to dial
down any of his scenes, he explained that he wanted every shot to be difficult , this isn t too bad
and such a mindset may result in some amazing shots but it s not a mindset that should still be in
play when you lose 8 million dollars of a budget to create a film. His First Assistant director Phil
Patterson role was to mainly just organise everything and make sure everything was matching the
plan. He was also involved in making sure the project is meeting the set due dates, in the
documentary he is also seen trying to hold everything together when things go

Medea Is Not A Bad Mother Essay
Society establishes a set of expectations by which males and females are expected to conduct
themselves. For example, a mother is expected to nurture her child, stay at home to take care of her
children, be patient, be kind, love unconditionally and to never get angry. If a mother does not live
up to these expectations established by society, then that motheris deemed a bad mother. Since a
mother gives birth to her children and nurtures them, a mother who kills her children is considered
to be unredeemably bad. Medea, in the play of the same name, kills her two sons and by societal
standards, she would be deemed a bad mother. Contrary to society s expectations of mothers, I will
argue that Medeais not a bad mother. I will do this by proving that: Medea defies the social
conventions of motherhood in three ways; she kills her children in order to protect them; and, that
she rebels against her husband s control and male domination by depriving him of his immortality
by killing his sons and ending his bloodline.
There are three ways in which Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood. Firstly, she
does this by not being a stay at home mother. Secondly, she demonstrates that she can be powerful
as a woman. Thirdly, she is unkind and gets angry. I will elaborate on each of these ways in the
paragraphs that follow.
The first way in which Medea challenges the social conventions of motherhood is by defying its
conventions. One of the attributes of a social definition

Importance Of Being A Minister Of Christ Essay
Why does Richard Baxter emphasis the importance of being a minister of Christ?
If there is anything that is to be the characteristic of the reformed pastor it is that his mind and
life must bear the image of the servanthood of Christ. Following after Christ words, I have come
not to be served but to serve others and to give my life as a ransom for many .This is why in his
book, The Reformed Pastor, Baxter is eagerly encouraging those in ministry to know their called
identity as under shepherds of the Great Shepherd; and therefore following the model of Jesus
Christ earthly ministry as their personal template for shepherding the Lord s flock.
He does this by first expounding on the meaning behind the title of his work. It is not for those
of the reformed or Calvin doctrine, but for all those in ministry to continually be reforming the
character of their lives. This does not mean the reforming that is called to take place is solely
found in the reshaping of the mind through the doctrines of grace, though important. But it is a
wholistic reviving of their life; touching every aspect of it and coating it in the the doctrines of
grace; so that, to mirror and live as Christ lived, to be in His likeness. So the reforming of the
Pastor is not just for a micro and personal wholistic change but also for the people of God, causing
it to become a macro restyling and clothing in the doctrines of God. He is called to do this by
modeling the transforming power of the Word of God and

Correlation Between Mental Illness and Violence and Crime...
Literature Analysis and Research Proposal of the Correlation between Mental Illness and Violence
and Crime Over the past few decades, many researches have strived to test and explain the
correlation between violence and crime and mental illness. Moore and Hiday (2006) assert that up
22% of inmates has a mental illness, sometimes containing more mental illness patients than many
psychiatric units. Due to these statistics it is evident how important it is to understand the causes of
the correlations between crime and violence and mental disorders. This proposal wishes to explain
and understand the possible correlation and the reasons for such correlation between mental health
illnesses and violence and crime. Further research to test... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These theories strive to explain how these factors may have an influence of crime and mental
illness. Social Learning Theory and Mental Illness The Social Learning Theory strives to show
how behaviors are acquired and maintained through various techniques. According to this theory,
three basic constructs are apparent. Differential association explains that a person engages
themselves in a group that has an acceptance toward crime as a possible means of obtaining
necessary life goals. People engaged in these groups learn to view crime as either positive or
negative. Differential reinforcement explains how well the participation in crime is accepted
and imitation is the final acceptance of the crime by observing others and committing the crime
as well. Applied to mental illness, individuals with mental illness are more likely to be engaged
with individuals of these ideals due to excessive exposure from close contact in low
socioeconomic areas. Social Stress and Mental Illness According to the Social Stress Theory,
crime and violence is related to the amount of stress felt in one s life. Applied to mental health, it
is proposed that mental illness will lead to stressful situations in life which will in turn lead to
crime and violence (Silver 2006). Stressful life events have shown a relation to an increase in

The Fifth Of May By Francisco De Goya

Humanities 1101 The Third of May Francisco De Goya was born on March 30 about 1746 in
Fuentes de todos, Spain. He studied painting from age 14. He became a court painter to the
Spanish Crown in 1786 and the early portion of his career. Goya was considered one of the most
crucial Spanish artists of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Francisco married Josefa Bayeu y
SubГas.The couple had only one child; he received the name of Xavier. One of the most
recognized paintings was the Third of May in 1808. The third of May, is one of the greatest
testament to the honors of the war ever painted (Discovering the humanities page. 405) The oil
canvas painting is shocking since it shows a terrible moment in the Spanish war versus French
army. The French army invaded the Spanish, putting them in a line and they started to shoot, not
asking questions just shooting. This painting is very controversial, because in the picture the very
first thing that we can see are the terrifying faces of the Spanish moreover, the face of monk asking
for marcy is symbolic because a monk in the hispanic culture mean church, religion and seeing him
in his knees is unrespefull. Second, the symbolic lamb that is in the middle can reflect faith for

on him with the white shirt and yellow pants and his terrifying gestures. Lastly, the french soldiers

A Comparison of Fahrenheit 451 and Dover Beach
Fahrenheit 451 is a well written book that tells a story of a dream world and one man who wakes
up from that dream. Montag, the protagonist of the story, brings home a book of poetry one day
and begins to read the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold to his wife and her guests. Many
critics think that Bradbury picked this poem because it paralleled life in his book. The poem Dover
Beachcan be compared to Fahrenheit 451because both pieces of writing talk about themes of true
love, fantasy and allover hopelessness. One of the ways Fahrenheit 451 can be related to Arnold s
Dover Beach is by connecting the absence of true love in both of them. Throughout the book,
Montag slowly realizes that he does not truly love his wife Mildred. In the... Show more content on

Critical Pedagogy Analysis
In The Art of Critical Pedagogy, Jeffrey Duncan Andrade and Ernest Morrell provide vivid
examples on how critical pedagogy is beneficial for academic success amongst individuals of
color. Critical pedagogy is a multicultural form of teaching that is rooted in the essential
experiences of marginalized peoples; that is centered in a critique of structural, economic, and
racial oppression; that is focused on dialogue instead of a one way transmission of knowledge; and
that is structured to empower individuals and collectives as agents of social change . (Duncan
Andrade and Morrell, 2008, p. 49) This style of teaching is essential within urban schools, as it

In comparison to canonical form of teaching, students begin to learn and appreciate the unique and
equally meaningful aspects of their culture (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Critical pedagoy
that has provided cultural relevance has led me to become a more engaged student. By reading
Toni Morrison s book, The Bluest Eye, I often found myself more intrigued in learning similar
academic pieces, as the characters often displayed cultural characteristic that were nearly identical
to my personal experiences. This teaching practice kept me engaged with the literature, allowing
me to perform higher academically. Similar to my experience, students of color that began to
partake in culturally relevant courses often endure a vast improvement of their intellectual
performance. As a result, many began to take Advanced Placement courses and were able to
matriculate to four year universities (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Not only does critical
pedagogy allow for a deeper understanding of the curriculum, it also provides critical thinking skills
and intellectual resources that are not often provided to students of

edge of technology.
When the children returned from recess some of them returned to their seats and began to work

site. The children looked excited and eager to learn. It was obvious from the beginning of the
observation that Mrs. Randus practices progressivism (Clark, 2000). Her students were given the

contents of the class web page, they were learning through discovery and working together in
communities around the computers. It was also evident when she started class with a vote that she

Societal Standards of Feminine Beauty Essay
While women have made historical strides in the past decades, the culture at large is bound to the
narcissistic constraints about how women should look. These unattainable beauty standards,
largely proliferated through the media, have drastic impacts on women and their body image.
Societal standards of feminine beauty are presented in all forms of popular and alternative media,
bombarding women with images that portray the ideal body. Such standards of beauty are almost
completely far fetched for most women. A majority of the celebrities and models seen on
television and in advertisements are well below what is considered normal for American women.
The average American woman is 5 4 tall and weighs 140 pounds, while the average American...

More than half of teenage girls are, or think they should be, on diets. They want to lose some or all
of the 40 pounds that females naturally gain between ages 8 and 14. About 3% of these teens go
too far, becoming anorexic or bulimic (Being Truly Beautiful). Mainstream magazines and
advertisements are another potent source of idealized images of women. Findings of one study
indicate that 83% of teenage girls reported reading fashion magazines for about 4.3 hours each
week (Thompson Heinberg, 1999). Female s motivation behind reading these magazines and
advertisements are to obtain information about beauty, fitness, grooming and style. Magazine and
advertisements are marketed to help women better themselves by providing information and
products that are supposed to make them look and feel better. Women read these magazines with
the hope that is they follow the advice given, they will be more acceptable and attractive (Serder,
Female Body Image and the Mass Media: Perspectives on How Women Internalize the Ideal
Beauty standard). Marketing strategies lure women into purchasing these forms of media, and
most have the potential to be a powerful influence on women s sense of self satisfaction with their
appearance. The social comparison theory offers some level of explanation for how media images
actually come to impact the way women feel about their bodies. Social comparison theory examines
how individuals evaluate themselves in relation to peers,

How Model Rocket Works
How do model rockets work? A rocket is propelled by thrust produced from the expulsion of gases
or particles, most commonly as a result of a chemical reaction between fuel and an oxidizer that
occurs in a combustion chamber.
A rocket works by the reaction that is occurred in the combustion chamber. the thrust from the
expulsion of gas and particles is in close pressure which makes the reaction longer and with more
power for the rocket to fly higher and faster. the model rocket is used by a model of a rocket itself
and the motor which moves it.
How is rocketry similar to chemistry learning? a chemical reaction between fuel and an oxidizer
that occurs in a combustion chamber. The reaction of the fuel and oxidizer reacts in the combustion
chamber of the rocket. There is a chemical reaction because the fuel and oxidizers are reacting by
creating smoke and heat. This is similar to chemistry because in chemistry it is all about chemical

What Is Fear In Lord Of The Flies
Fear is the most dangerous emotion known to man. One forgets the civility that is drilled into their
minds from birth and relies on human instinct to survive. This is what the boys in Lord of the
Flies experience when they find themselves stranded on a deserted island without any contact with
the outside world. They have to depend on each other to survive. While one group relies on human
instinct and savagery in the face of danger and fear, the other wants to hold onto civilization, but in
the heat of the moment, fear strips their civility away as well. William Goldings Lord of the Flies
asserts that fear unmasks the ugly face of human nature. In times of uncertainty, imagination will

The Lost Generation In The Lost Generation
Individuals of Generation X those born between 1963 and 1981 have seen the world around them
change in a variety of ways during their lifetime, from the fall of the Soviet Union to the dawn of
the personal computer. Some of these advancements directly affected their lives, while others
influenced their attitudes, opinions, and outlooks. Generation Xshould not be reflected as the lost
generation, but the generation that introduced technology embraced innovation and observed
tragedies that implanted fear across the entire nation.
I remember sitting in my fifth grade history class watching the live broadcast of the Challenger
liftoff and the devastating explosion claiming the lives of seven astronauts. We had previously
discussed the importance of the mission as teacher, Christa McAuliffe, earned her spot on the
mission for NASA s program Teachers in Space (History.com, 2010). I sat there trying to process
and understand what happened and we were not provided an explanation, it was more confusing
than shocking, Looking back if this happened today, I suspect schools would have dismissed for
the remainder of the day. At this time, it was an undeniably historical event for my generation. It
was supposed to be a moment of joy but quickly turned into one of the most defining tragedies of
this decade. This became the first national trauma for children, and America struggled with

Cause And Effects Of Tsunami In Japan
In March of 2011, a magnitude 9 earthquake hit Japan, releasing a dangerous tsunami. Japan was not
expecting the magnitude of the earthquake and tsunami, and endured much hardship after the
disaster. The effects of the tsunami can still be seen in Japan today through its residents, economy,
and through actions that have been taken to further protect residents from future disasters. Though
the Japan 2011 tsunamiis one of the most destructive tsunamis ever recorded, dangerous tsunamis
continue to take place across the globe. The Japan 2011 tsunami not only affected the inhabitants of
Japan, but also affected people around the world. After disasters such as this, each area must endure
the aftermath of the disaster and recover from the effects.
A tsunami is a series of huge waves occurring when there is a major disturbance on the ocean
floor. Tsunamis often occur due to earthquakes, volcanoes, or landslides (Park 16). Underwater
earthquakes may produce waves that travel in all different directions. Some tsunamis lose power
and die out under water, others may produce large waves as they approach land. Tsunamis may
look like an onrushing tidal wave as they approach land, but do not occur because of tides (Park
6). Their walls of water can move across the open ocean at speeds of up to 560 miles per hour.
When the waves hit the coast, they can reach up to 100 feet (Park 5). The tsunami in Japan is
believed to have occurred after two of Earth s tectonic plates collided in the

When Irene Character Analysis
I believe that Claire was pushed out of the window at the end of the novel. This belief stems from
the buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I
thought that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to
Irene feeling threatened by Claire.
Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins
to suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian
leaving her for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life
and she cannot allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the
story, especially with Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of
the family. When Irene starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to
think that Irene would do whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come
up.

serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... Show more

breaking a cup and pushing a person are two separate actions with the later being harder to carry

sure that the government won t take all power away from the citizens residing the the country.
The first amendment included in the Bill of Rights states that Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press. This freedom of
the press given to citizens was something that the framers took serious and gave great importance
to. Since this freedom lets the citizens of America know what goes on behind the scene in the
governments offices. This information is shared with the public making it so that the government
doesn t keep important information from its citizens which would prevent its citizens from
speaking out in the wrongdoing they see led by the government. Thereby not letting the
government sly by and take actions that would deem to be unfair for its people and the rights of
its country. This was the kind of tyranny the framers were concerned about, and the more a person
is concerned about tyranny the freer you want freedom of speech and press to be. One grave
imprortance that freedom of the press gave to its citizens was assurance

Tim Burton Analysis
Tim Burton is a very skilled director. His first job was with Disney but he was more into the
dark stories, his first project was Vincent(1982) . He likes to combine child friendly stories and
dark/mysterious stories/movies. He had many influences like Dr.Suess, Edgar Allan Poe,
Vincent Price, Grimm s fairy tales, and Roald Dahl. Burton is great at using Cinematic
Techniques. He makes the movies pull at the viewer s emotions, either in a happy, sad, or scary
way by using framing, lighting, camera angles, music/sound, and editing. Tim Burton uses
framing a lot to either show the detailed features of a person s face or to show their expression.
During Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he did a close up on Willy Wonka s face during one
of his flashbacks to show that he was pained to think of his bad childhood. He also uses a close up
shot on Willy Wonka at the beginning to show how WILLY wonka looks. In the beginning of
Edward Scissorhands, Burton used a close up shot on Edward s face to show all of his scars from
his scissorhands. Tim Burton also uses on Edwards scissorhands to show how sharp and shiny they
are. During his short film Vincent he used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My knees were covered mud and my hair was matted against my head from the rain. I raised the

Contrasting the Gods in Homer s Odyssey and the Biblical Book of Exodus
Many authors have employed the religious beliefs of their cultures in literature. The deities
contained in Homer s Odyssey and in the Biblical book of Exodus reflect the nature of the gods in
their respective societies. Upon examination of these two works, there are three major areas where
the gods of the Greek epic seem to directly contrast the nature of the God of the Israelites: the way
problems are solved, the prestige and status that separates the divine from the masses, and the extent
of power among the immortal beings.
Before any logical argument regarding the contrasting of two works can begin, a foundation must
be established that in some way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that the people do what is commanded is evidence of the recognition of Yahweh as their
divine God, and it is a testament to the authority they ascribe to Him. The existence and recognition
of the authority of these deities does not provide the only cornerstone for this argument. To discuss
the relationship between the divine and mankind, an observation and analysis of the interaction
between the two realms is imperative. In The Odyssey, many interactions between the gods and
men are seen. One of these scenes illustrates Athena s visit to Telmakhos, at the end of which she
put new spirit in him, a new dream of his father (1. 359 360) in order that Telemakhos might not
give up hope of Odysseus return. It is this type of interaction that gives insight into the relations
between the divine and humans, and that provides a framework on which to weave the examination
of those relations. An example of this type of interaction in Exodus is found in the form of a
burning bush: When, the Lord saw that he [Moses] had gone over to look [at the burning bush],
God called to him from within the bush, Moses! Moses! And Moses said, Here I am. Do not come
any closer, God said, Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground
(Exodus 3:4 5).
The interaction between Yahweh and Moses occurs many times throughout the book of Exodus, as
do other interactions between this God of the Hebrews and

When Did The Cold War End Essay
It has been about 26 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall marked, as many believed the end to
Communism, and the Cold War. For years, there was a lot of tension between the United States and
Soviet Union that can be described as a competition between two universalist models: each claimed
to represent the future (Dinning). As most global conflicts involving war go, one always loses.
Since the USSR does not exist any longer, many believe that the United Stateswon this Cold War,
but in reality neither power won, and the USSR became present day Russia. From the time of his
presidency, Ronald Reagan is credited with ending the Cold War, but had nothing to do with the fall

raise the question: Did the Cold War really end? Rather, did the United States succeed in
becoming the superpower it claims to be? Historians argue that the Cold War did end, but the
United States is entering another Cold War like conflict with North Korea. However, the USSR
had a strong influence on the Northern peninsula of Korea, so they are the main cause of today s
conflicts as well. They had a direct influence to what is occurring today. So, if the Cold War
ended, why does the Korean War s effects still resonate on the relationship with the U.S? Under

The Landlady Theme
The Landlady is a short story written by Roald Dahl, it started when the main character, Billy
Weaver, travel to Bath from London for his new job acceptant. The story was written in the third
person point of view and it describes about the dangerous things that wait for the inexperienced
Billy Weaver, when he wants to stay at a strange boarding house. Through the description, we can
see that the boy is too naГЇve and subjective about the outside world where he never actually
experience it. As a reader, we can easily recognized that the place is pretty creepy and quite
dangerous, when there are no sign of other guests, Billy also noticed about that but he is not fully

Billy is exhibited as an honest young fellow who has just passed out of school, who appears to
be uninformed of the evils of life out in this present world. He doesn t for one moment assume
that there is anything vile about the lady. He is totally taken in by her cordial ways and is
enchanted by her cheap and comfortable rooms. He does distinguish some peculiarity in her
conduct, yet he merrily puts it down to her being somewhat dotty , and nothing else. Despite the
fact that he considers the vanishing of the two visitors that stayed there before him a vanishing that
made the news he regards it as a captivating puzzle instead of as a clue of danger. Youthful honesty,
then, is another main theme of the book; The way how youthful, blameless trusting natures are
exploited by more elderly, more naughty and evil minds. (Bingoffsky)
Roald Dahl utilizes metaphors as a part of the story, it isn t all the time I have the delight of

Fruit and Robots: Two Operating Systems in the Mobile Market
Apple s iOS and Google s Android operating systems (OS) are both used in similar devices, tablets
and phones. However, the look and feel of both is very different. Smartphones and tablet computers
have become increasingly popular; two operating systems have come to the forefront, iOS, and
Android. Both contain similarities but the way in which they are used, and the devices they are
used on are similar but once the OS s are put on become vastly different. Many other operating

This can cause problems for the company because it can fragment their market share as well as
confuse the public. Not all devices run all OS versions, not all devices look the same because of the
skinning that comes from some hardware manufacturers.
One major difference between the two operating systems is the fact that Android is part of the
Android Open Source Project (AOSP) which allows developers access to the Software
Development Kit (SDK) to develop applications for Android devices, which is the most
important part of the new Smartphone market. Apple, as with most things they release have a
closed system, you have to pay to become a developer and develop with tools they proved. This
puts a burden on the developers right away because Android is extensively free, while iOS has an
initial cost to even get started, and that s if you already have an Intel based Mac.
Application development itself is different in the respect that they use different programming
languages to create the applications (apps). Android applications are usually developed using the
Java language but with tools that are available can be created using C, or C++. Apple iOS
applications are created using their own custom software and Objective C language. The approval
process one applications are developed are also much different. With an Android App is developed

rights. I also feel that this proposal conflicts with Republican ideology for less government
interference in the daily lives of citizens. For a political party that is so focused on defending
privacy and limited government involvement, this proposed legislative directive is very
contradictory and hypocritical for what the Republican Party s ideals stand for. They are in
favor of review and revision of the Patriot Act, as well as related executive and military orders
and directives that erode constitutional rights and essential liberties of citizens. (Republican Party
of Texas) The Republicans are choosey as to which constitutional rights and liberties they
recognize and protect. The remaining legislative priorities target education, immigration, and tax
reform. One item addressed concerning taxes is a request to reject raising or indexing the gas
tax. (Republican Party of Texas) I agree with this proposition. If gas taxes continue to rise, drivers
will undergo a hardship in transportation, especially in Austin because public transportation has not
yet successfully evolved to accommodate a city of its size efficiently. Fiscally speaking, overall I

The Disagreements Over the Health Effects of Probiotics Essay
Since the year 1965, the term probiotics has been used. Lilly and Stillwell were the first to
describe probiotics as substances secreted by one organism, which stimulated growth of other
organisms (Gupta, 2009). It was however, Elie Metchnikoff in the 1900s who first suggested that
there were health properties in lactic acid bacteriafrom fermented food products (Anukam, 2007).
Since then, the meaning has undergone some changes, one of the most recent definitions is that
probiotics are beneficial live microorganisms, which must be consumed in a sufficient amount for
the desired health effect (Guarner, 1998). The Food and Agriculture Organisation/World Health

Therefore the bacterium ability to tolerate different pH levels is a crucial factor in determining their
probiotic use. Ability to attach to the gut epithelial cells and adequate production of antimicrobial
substances are also other important properties of probiotics (Granato, 2010). In terms of
commercial use and manufacturing, probiotics must be resilient and maintain cell viability during
periods of processing, packaging and storage (Saarela, 2009).
The number food companies that are now using strains of Lactic acid bacteria and Bifidobacteria
in their food products has increased considerably and it is now diary probiotic products that are

Government Funded Versus Privately Funded Human Life
Introduction to Government Funded Versus Privately Funded Human Spaceflight
Getting into space isn t easy. It required the world s largest superpowers and billions of dollars of
research and development to create the first rockets capable of carrying human beings into space.
Approximately 60 years later, we find ourselves still struggling to reach LEO (low Earth Orbit)
without breaking the bank. With the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011, the United States has
lost its only dedicated vehicle capable sending astronauts and payloads into orbit. Relying on the
Russian Soyuz vehicle for our missions, the price of sending people into space has continued to
be astronomical. America needs a new line of cheaper rockets to fit the demand of future missions,
and what role the government should play in this expensive development process is a complicated
debate which affects many people. We re paying too much to go to space. NASA typically contracts
out launch vehicles from private companies for their launch needs, and historically they have
almost always gone to the United Launch Alliance (a joint venture between Lockheed and Boeing).
Up until recently, they have been one of the only organizations capable of sending cargo to both
low Earth orbit and geosynchronous orbit (an orbit which matches the trajectory of the craft with
the rotation of the Earth). As a result, a monopoly has been created, and the price of sending
anything into space costs a ridiculous amount of money.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sexual Reproduction
#1 Sex is a mode of reproduction and a way for a large number of organisms to reproduce. But is
sexual reproduction really advantageous? There are advantages and disadvantages to sexual
reproduction. Some disadvantages of sexual reproduction are as follows. Sexual reproduction
cannot be done without a mate. Females want to mate with the best males who are strong and on
top of the hierarchy. This can take lots of time and effort to find. It can even take years for an
offspring to come out of mating for the female. The successful genes of an individual are being
split up into a combined form with another individual s and it is not always guaranteed that the
offspring of these two successful organisms will come out successful. Sexual reproductionis less
reliable since fifty percent of these new combinations end up failing. When organisms mate, they
are distracted by the pleasure they are giving to each other. All the ruckus and noises will attract
predators and is also a disadvantage. In contrast, when two individuals mate, the cells go through
cell division or meiosis. This allows four daughter cells to produce from the original first cell.
Since the offspring has genes and traits from both parents, the offspring will be unique. This is
advantageous for evolutionary changes. Since each offspring is unique in their genetic material,
some won t be affected by a disease, such as HIV, AIDS, and viruses, as others might. This allows
these offspring to survive. The

The Pros And Cons Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Scientific advancements have the potential to be beneficial as well as detrimental. Whether it is
good or bad depends on numerous factors, such as the motive for the creation. In Ethics and the
New Genetics, by the Dalai Lama, he discusses how these scientific advancements can affect us on
social, political and ethical levels. He believes that while new technology can be beneficial, such as
for medical purposes, the motivation behind these creations is what can cause them to be harmful.
While new technology can be advantageous in humandevelopment and survival, it also has
consequences such as causing social and economic instability. Unmanned aerial vehicles,
commonly known as drones, initially were built to reduce casualties in a war, but the advantages
also carry risk. These war drones would minimize the causality of soldiers in combat by removing
them from the battlefield and replacing them with these unmanned flying vehicles. However, their
use has not always been beneficial. For instance, the use of these war drones has resulted in a

rejecting the organ. This will also eliminate the need of a donor. Though these are all great
advantages of therapeutic cloning it has numerous disadvantages. Scientists cannot prove this
method to be completely safe for a patient. Some patients have had these cells that were made
from this process mutate into cancer cells. The cost for this is also extremely high so it is not
available to a large group of the population. While reproductive cloning of a human has not been
successful yet, there are some concerns surrounding that. As the Dalai Lama asked in his essay,
What would this practice do to the future gene pool? To the diversity that has been essential to

Bill Clinton Foreign Policy Analysis
The foreign policy of the Bill Clinton organization was the foreign policy of the United States from
1993 to 2001 under the Administration of President Bill Clinton. Clinton s primary foreign policy
counselors were Secretaries of State Warren Christopher and Madeleine Albright and National
Security Advisors Anthony Lake and Sandy Berger.
President Clinton accepted office not long after the fall of the Soviet Union and end of the Cold War
, which had left the United States as the world s just remaining superpower. In that capacity and not
long after in the wake of taking office, President Clinton needed to choose whether and how the
United States would manage the savagery of various clashes universally. These would incorporate
the organization of military power in a few locales basically for the motivations behind securing
regular citizens, or equipped compassionate intercession, as the ... Show more content on

The end of superpower contention had liberated the UN and other territorial security establishments
from their past Cold War mind set, and made new open doors for them to play a more dynamic,
aggregate part. Regardless of global standards of state power and non mediation, the thought that the
universal group ought to intercede in a nation for the benefit of its own kin increased more
prominent authenticity. Universal associations, for example, the UN and provincial security, for
example, NATO, the OAS, and the OAU would assume a part in offering authenticity on the
operations and in sorting out an aggregate reaction. Locally be that as it may, these new

Designing For Many Architects And Designers
Designing for people is a challenge for many architects and designers. The idea of creating
something innovative, beautiful or in this case, sculptural, which stands the test of time, is ideal for
many designers. But what happens when a building doesn t meet the needs of its occupants? What
happens when, what is considered, a magnificent architectural feat begins to leak, grow mold and
become a safety hazard?
The Ray and Maria Stata Center for Computer, Information and Intelligence Sciences (also referred
to as Building 32) is housed on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology s (MIT) historic Building
20 site. Between 1946 and 1948, Building 20 functioned primarily as a temporary facility
specifically for wartime outdoor training exercises, and as a research laboratory for war related
innovations. Building 20 continued to function as a research facility until its 1998 demolition.
Architect, Frank Gehry was selected, from a pool of sixteen firms, to design the new building after
funding became available through a donation from Ray and Maria Stata in 1998. The Institute
sought a daring design that set them a part and portrayed the school as the best. The criteria
initially established by MIT in 1989 proposed buildings that wrapped around the exterior of the site,
opening the interior space to the campus. This didn t quite match Gehry s vision. Instead, Gehry
challenged MIT s traditional bar buildings by dividing the building mass into clusters, connecting

Brave New World Essay
Brave New World Aldous Huxley s Brave New World is a fictitious story about a future utopian
society where people are mass produced in laboratories. People have no emotions in this world
where drugs and promiscuous sex are greatly encouraged. People are given labels according to
their pre natal intelligence assignment. These different classes all have specific roles within society
and nobody is unhappy with their place. The Brave New Worldhe was a fictitious story that sets up
a symbolic mirror to our world that shows the reader what our world is slowly evolving to.
As young children, the utopians are conditioned to practice certain rituals, to later benefit society as
a whole through the stability that these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are already certain American cities in which the number of divorces is equal to the number
of marriages (Huxley forward).
Huxley is saying that although our society would like to think that it is sexually stable, there is a
lack of monogamy among the general population.
Another aspect of the Brave New World culture that is symbolically similar to our own culture, is
the very distinct caste system. People of the Brave New
World are born with a specified intelligence level. This level of superiority (or inferiority) is
group into different castes. For example, Alphas are the smart superior individuals, where as the
Gammas are among the lower castes that are mass produced to be almost identical. This is their
way of classifying people according to each individual s biological makeup. Huxley comments
on the biological caste system in his forward, the equivalents of... the scientific caste system [of
the Brave New World] are probably not more than three or four generations away. Looking at our
society today, we can see many ways in which biology determines personal worth. Many of today
s highest paying jobs go to those of biological superiority. Biologically superior supermodels
receive millions of dollars because they were born with a pretty face. Athletes get respect and
money for playing sports. Biology helps the football player because it makes him fast. By giving
them physical superiority, such as

Lord Of The Flies Critical Analysis
The novel, Lord of the Flies, was written by William Golding in 1954. The novel tells the story of
what a horrible and disturbing world looks like when things go wrong. Sigmund Freud was a
psychologist that studied how humans minds work and our controlled by basic impulses in the
unconscious brain called the Id, Superego, and the Ego(CommonLit Staff). In the book, Jack
represents the Id, Ralph represents Ego, and Piggy is the Superego. The most basic and oldest
brain part is the Id. Freud believed that the Id was the location of our pleasure principle. This is
the area that tells us to seek instant gratification from the things we do (CommonLit Staff). It
doesn t know things like right or wrong and justs acts like an animal doing whatever it wants and
whenever it wants. The boy named Jack is the Id part of the brain. One example is when Jack
decides to leave his job doing the fire to go hunting with the hunting party. Jack, obsessed with
the idea of killing a pig, camouflages his face with clay and charcoal and enters the jungle to
hunt, accompanied by several other boys. On the beach, Ralph and Piggy see a ship on the
horizon but they also see that the signal fire has gone out (Chapter 4). The Jack Id wants to go
and have fun hunting on not be bored with the job of the fire. He acts impulsive and doesn t do
what is right. Second example is when Jack has had too much of Ralph and takes over the group.
As Piggy and Ralph sit in the old camp discussing the

  • 2. Paul Laurence Dunbar And Maya Angelou Comparison For each of us, freedom plays a very important role in this life. With me, I think there is nothing which is greater than we are free to do what we want to do, dream what we want to dream or simply, eat what we want to eat. We all worship freedom. I or Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya Angelou do too. Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya Angelou expressed their freedom through their poems which are Sympathy and Caged Bird in a very personal, dramatic and profound way. Although we were published in two different times, I feel that these two poems also have harmonies in ideas or the way the authors think about freedom in them. Besides, each of them contains their own characteristics which make them have their own colors and meaning. During the civil rights era, the racism, that horrible system that discriminates against people based on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maya Angelou and Paul Larence Dunbar were African American, who grew up in that era so they experienced and felt the sadness and pain that Africa Americans when they became slaves for White people received at that time. From the same feeling, the same inspiration, the poems express their feeling when they used to face with that discrimination in their life every single day. The poems also assert the importance of freedom and its value in life. Besides the coincidence of the subject and circumstances of the birth of these two poems, there is another interesting similiar thing is that the image of a bird which is trapped in a cage is used as a metaphor to symbolize African Americans who suffered racial discrimination during this period. I feel this is a very interesting metaphor. That same point also makes the poems special and have very personal beauty , not to be confused with other poems. Birds are always associated as a symbol of freedom. Everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While both characters can be considered tragic hero s we can see many similarities and differences as we observe them through Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero. Aristotle breaks down tragic hero s by the hamartia, hubris, and the peripeteia. These describe the downfall of a hero, their reversal in fortune, and the disrespect for the natural order of things. After comparing Antigone and Othellothrough Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero, I believe that Antigone is closer to a true tragic hero than Othello. While Antigone did not have a thematic flaw like Othello did, her headstrong attitude and unwillingness to let her Uncle Creon giver her brother Polyneices an improper burial would set the chain of events leading to her downfall. The Hamartia is the tragic flaw that causes the hero s downfall, and in this sense the greater tragedy is that Antigone could not escape death because her character strongly believed the laws of the Heavens were greater than those of Creon s. No matter how she chose to argue against Creon, her end result would have been grave, they considered stoning her before locking her in a tomb and starving her. Antigone ultimately decided to take her own life rather than have her convictions broken, something we can clearly see when she boldly states If life must be a thing of fear and lying and compromise; if life cannot be free, gallant, incorruptible then, Creon, I choose death! . Othello was a beloved and respected general in the Venetian army, but through a paranoid fit of jealousy he conspires with Iago to kill his wife and her thought to be lover Cassio. While it is clear that the theme of Othello is jealousy, the green eyed monster , Othello never has solid proof of the affair. Most of the evidence is circumstantial, but word of mouth through Iago coupled with Othello s extreme jealousy pushes him to desire to murder his wife Desdemona and close friend Cassio. Othello claims to have a profound love for Desdemona but it simply takes one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But even with such a financial setback he failed to dial down any of his scenes, he explained that he wanted every shot to be difficult , this isn t too bad and such a mindset may result in some amazing shots but it s not a mindset that should still be in play when you lose 8 million dollars of a budget to create a film. • 5. Medea Is Not A Bad Mother Essay Society establishes a set of expectations by which males and females are expected to conduct themselves. For example, a mother is expected to nurture her child, stay at home to take care of her children, be patient, be kind, love unconditionally and to never get angry. If a mother does not live up to these expectations established by society, then that motheris deemed a bad mother. Since a mother gives birth to her children and nurtures them, a mother who kills her children is considered to be unredeemably bad. Medea, in the play of the same name, kills her two sons and by societal standards, she would be deemed a bad mother. Contrary to society s expectations of mothers, I will argue that Medeais not a bad mother. I will do this by proving that: Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood in three ways; she kills her children in order to protect them; and, that she rebels against her husband s control and male domination by depriving him of his immortality by killing his sons and ending his bloodline. There are three ways in which Medea defies the social conventions of motherhood. Firstly, she does this by not being a stay at home mother. Secondly, she demonstrates that she can be powerful as a woman. Thirdly, she is unkind and gets angry. I will elaborate on each of these ways in the paragraphs that follow. The first way in which Medea challenges the social conventions of motherhood is by defying its conventions. One of the attributes of a social definition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Importance Of Being A Minister Of Christ Essay Why does Richard Baxter emphasis the importance of being a minister of Christ? If there is anything that is to be the characteristic of the reformed pastor it is that his mind and life must bear the image of the servanthood of Christ. Following after Christ words, I have come not to be served but to serve others and to give my life as a ransom for many .This is why in his book, The Reformed Pastor, Baxter is eagerly encouraging those in ministry to know their called identity as under shepherds of the Great Shepherd; and therefore following the model of Jesus Christ earthly ministry as their personal template for shepherding the Lord s flock. He does this by first expounding on the meaning behind the title of his work. It is not for those of the reformed or Calvin doctrine, but for all those in ministry to continually be reforming the character of their lives. This does not mean the reforming that is called to take place is solely found in the reshaping of the mind through the doctrines of grace, though important. But it is a wholistic reviving of their life; touching every aspect of it and coating it in the the doctrines of grace; so that, to mirror and live as Christ lived, to be in His likeness. So the reforming of the Pastor is not just for a micro and personal wholistic change but also for the people of God, causing it to become a macro restyling and clothing in the doctrines of God. He is called to do this by modeling the transforming power of the Word of God and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Learning Theory and Mental Illness The Social Learning Theory strives to show how behaviors are acquired and maintained through various techniques. According to this theory, three basic constructs are apparent. Differential association explains that a person engages themselves in a group that has an acceptance toward crime as a possible means of obtaining necessary life goals. People engaged in these groups learn to view crime as either positive or negative. Differential reinforcement explains how well the participation in crime is accepted and imitation is the final acceptance of the crime by observing others and committing the crime as well. Applied to mental illness, individuals with mental illness are more likely to be engaged with individuals of these ideals due to excessive exposure from close contact in low socioeconomic areas. Social Stress and Mental Illness According to the Social Stress Theory, crime and violence is related to the amount of stress felt in one s life. These unattainable beauty standards, largely proliferated through the media, have drastic impacts on women and their body image. Societal standards of feminine beauty are presented in all forms of popular and alternative media, bombarding women with images that portray the ideal body. Findings of one study indicate that 83% of teenage girls reported reading fashion magazines for about 4.3 hours each week (Thompson Heinberg, 1999). Contrasting the Gods in Homer s Odyssey and the Biblical Book of Exodus Many authors have employed the religious beliefs of their cultures in literature. The deities contained in Homer s Odyssey and in the Biblical book of Exodus reflect the nature of the gods in their respective societies. Upon examination of these two works, there are three major areas where the gods of the Greek epic seem to directly contrast the nature of the God of the Israelites: the way problems are solved, the prestige and status that separates the divine from the masses, and the extent of power among the immortal beings. Before any logical argument regarding the contrasting of two works can begin, a foundation must be established that in some way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that the people do what is commanded is evidence of the recognition of Yahweh as their divine God, and it is a testament to the authority they ascribe to Him. The existence and recognition of the authority of these deities does not provide the only cornerstone for this argument. To discuss the relationship between the divine and mankind, an observation and analysis of the interaction between the two realms is imperative. In The Odyssey, many interactions between the gods and men are seen. One of these scenes illustrates Athena s visit to Telmakhos, at the end of which she put new spirit in him, a new dream of his father (1. 359 360) in order that Telemakhos might not give up hope of Odysseus return. It is this type of interaction that gives insight into the relations between the divine and humans, and that provides a framework on which to weave the examination of those relations. An example of this type of interaction in Exodus is found in the form of a burning bush: When, the Lord saw that he [Moses] had gone over to look [at the burning bush], God called to him from within the bush, Moses! Moses! And Moses said, Here I am. Do not come any closer, God said, Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground (Exodus 3:4 5). Historians argue that the Cold War did end, but the United States is entering another Cold War like conflict with North Korea. However, the USSR had a strong influence on the Northern peninsula of Korea, so they are the main cause of today s conflicts as well. They had a direct influence to what is occurring today. It required the world s largest superpowers and billions of dollars of research and development to create the first rockets capable of carrying human beings into space. Approximately 60 years later, we find ourselves still struggling to reach LEO (low Earth Orbit) without breaking the bank. With the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011, the United States has lost its only dedicated vehicle capable sending astronauts and payloads into orbit. Relying on the Russian Soyuz vehicle for our missions, the price of sending people into space has continued to be astronomical. America needs a new line of cheaper rockets to fit the demand of future missions, and what role the government should play in this expensive development process is a complicated debate which affects many people. We re paying too much to go to space. NASA typically contracts out launch vehicles from private companies for their launch needs, and historically they have almost always gone to the United Launch Alliance (a joint venture between Lockheed and Boeing). Up until recently, they have been one of the only organizations capable of sending cargo to both low Earth orbit and geosynchronous orbit (an orbit which matches the trajectory of the craft with the rotation of the Earth). There are advantages and disadvantages to sexual reproduction. Some disadvantages of sexual reproduction are as follows. Sexual reproduction cannot be done without a mate. Females want to mate with the best males who are strong and on top of the hierarchy. This can take lots of time and effort to find. It can even take years for an offspring to come out of mating for the female. The successful genes of an individual are being split up into a combined form with another individual s and it is not always guaranteed that the offspring of these two successful organisms will come out successful. Sexual reproductionis less reliable since fifty percent of these new combinations end up failing. When organisms mate, they are distracted by the pleasure they are giving to each other. All the ruckus and noises will attract predators and is also a disadvantage. In contrast, when two individuals mate, the cells go through cell division or meiosis. This allows four daughter cells to produce from the original first cell. Since the offspring has genes and traits from both parents, the offspring will be unique. This is advantageous for evolutionary changes. Since each offspring is unique in their genetic material, some won t be affected by a disease, such as HIV, AIDS, and viruses, as others might. This allows these offspring to survive. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
