Personal Norm Violations
Norm Violations Paper

Norm Violations Paper
As we know, norms are social expectations that guide our behavior. In this paper, I will discuss
norm violations that I ve observed, and my own personal norm violation that I committed. I will
describe what happened, what was done, and the reactions of the people around when these norms
begat. I will also discuss the significance of folkways, mores, values, and sanctions to my
observations.
There were two norms in which I observed. The first violation I spotted was a bit... out of the
ordinary. One day, I decided to take a trip to the Marketplace on Ming with one of my buddies.
All was seemingly normal until we stumbled upon a sight that shocked both of us. It was around
7:30 p.m. when we walked upon a pack of humans standing in a circle with their dogs. They were
located where the suit stores and black tables are. As we first walked up, there seemed to be
only a few dogs and a few humans. As we drew nearer, though, we found that there were at least
30 humans and 30 dogs. That was unbelievable. As we got within sight of the subjects, they all
turned and looked at us at the same exact time. Both the human faction and the dogs
simultaneously turned to us. My friend and I could not, at the time, decipher which party was in
control, the humans or the dogs? My friend and I decided that this sight was... too much... so we
decided to slowly walk away in a backward manner. Having

1-Bromo-3-Phenylpropane Reaction
Reaction 1 involved a primary alcohol (OH), weak leaving group in the starting material and a
reaction with a strong nucleophile (sodium bromide) and a polar protic solvent (sulfuric acid).
The reaction was carried out through reflux and the product had a relatively high yield (75%)
(Scheme 1). Scheme 1. Substitution of 3 phenyl 1 propanol to form 1 bromo 3 phenylpropane
The reaction was determined to be SN2 after careful reading of the data obtained and the
procedure followed. Increasing the amount of NaBr used in the reaction did not have an effect on
the product yield. The conditions of the reactions were acidic due to the solvent used. The acidic
conditions prevent an E2 substitution reaction from occurring. In this reaction, the OH leaving
group is replaced with the nucleophile Br. The bromine attacks the first carbon and the OH group
leaves in the same step. This is a concerted process or bimolecular substitution mechanism (SN2).
The location of the leaving group (primary) also indicates the reaction is SN2. The data obtained
from 1H NMR was found to confirm the correct product was formed. The data showed the correct
location and coupling of hydrogens in the product. There should be a difference of polarities
between the starting material and the product. The product should travel further on the TLC plate
than the starting material because the starting material should be more polar than the product. The
TLC results confirm the product was less polar than the

International Law is Divided in Private and Public Law
The term International law first used by Jeremy Bentham in his Introduction to the Principles of
Morals and Legislation, later Hugo Grotius who is a one of the prominent intellectual figure in
Europe lead to concept of the modern framework for international law. International law divided
into two parts as private international law and public international; however, general usage of the
international law refers to public international law. Through my Fulbright independent research
project, I hope to deepen and strengthen knowledge on International law especially on international
humaniterian law (IHL) which is also known as law of war. Today, according the United Nations,
International law defines as the legal responsibilities of States in their conduct with each other, and
their treatment of individuals within State boundaries. In addition to, The range of subjects and
actors directly concerned with international law has widened considerably, the realm of

Review Of Ice Age
Ice Age
Chapter One
The green garbage truck pulled up into a long winding ramp like driveway, the special clamps on
his wheels dug into the ice that encased the world in a snowy ice age. At five in the morning this
house seemed eerily silent, even for five A.M. The truck driver sighed. He felt sorry for this
family. In fact, he d been briefed on them this morning at his office on the 61st floor of The World
Building. Mr. Abdallah had been fired yesterday, from his job as a government official on the
98th floor. His income had gone down drastically, and the garbage man, lowly as he was had
heard that it was unlikely Mr. Abdallah would ever be hired again. With a heavy heart the young
man got out of his truck hooked up the garbage can, flipped it into the trucked and returned it.
Shawn Abdallah walked to school as usual. He rode the packed shut elevator to floor 9 as usual. He
trudged down the hall to Ms. Sweeney s class as usual. Yet his father s words rang in his ears.
You can only go to private school for three months. Then you can go public school for three
more, on floor 17. Or you can try public school for nine. Then it s homeschool for you. I m sorry.
We just don t have the money anymore. Shawn plunked himself down in his seat and let out a long
sigh. He didn t know how he would make it through the day without someone teasing him too much
about his father losing his job. Just two days ago, police had stormed through his house, taking
Shawn s parent s turban and

Social Control Theory
Social Control Theory There are many things in today s society that unknowingly control our
actions and behaviors. Bonds that exist with our surroundings have a profound effect on how we
live our lives. Since the 1900 s conformity has been the focus of every society here on Earth. If
people are given an idea about what is right or wrong and the outcomes for each decision are
clearly shown; the chance for deviance is greatly lessened. This summary will contain history of the
social control theoryand how its ideas and beliefs have evolved today. The earliest known
definition of the social control theory was taken from E.A. Ross, a sociologist from the 1900 s. He
believed that the things people believed in made them conform to their... Show more content on

The things people choose to believe make them who they are. There are negative beliefs and
positive ones. Everyone has them, most are brought up to believe a certain way or practice a
certain type of religion. Families pass down beliefs and ways of life from generation to
generation. Different races believe in different things, many religious but others exist too.
When people believe in the system its government provides they give back to it, and respect it.
However, what some people believe in conflict with the beliefs of others, and when two different
types of beliefs clash the result can be ugly. The bond between people and their society lessen
when they don t believe in what it stands for. Demonstrators for abortion or war are perfect
examples of the beliefs people have and how they choose to express their emotions physically.
The containment theory states that every person has an exterior structure and a protected interior
structure. Both of these different types of structures are used as a buffer for delinquency.
Examples of a person s exterior structure could be belonging to a group of people, the opportunity
to gain a certain type of status within society, or a set of limitations or responsibilities. Internal
construction can be capitalized on by having a general positive outlook on life, believing in ones
self, and a good conscience. When these different constructs weaken in a person the chance for
deviant acts increase

Youth Marketing
After a moving target by Jo Bowman 5 Nov 04, 08:49 Asia s youth may be a moving target but
targeted traditional media, from print to radio, can still work Parents used to bemoan the fact that
their kids were constantly glued to the set; now they despair that young people don t seem to focus
on anything for more than a few minutes. Sure, they re still watching TV, but no longer are they
couch potatoes, absorbing everything that flashes across the screen; they re flicking channels,
flicking through a magazine, texting their friends or moving to a PC a growing culture of
impatience that began with the remote control and is now seen to an extreme degree in the region s
young. For marketers, this means a single shot strategy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In India, the TV line up for younger children has grown this year, with the launch of Cartoon
Network s sister channel Pogo, with programming ranging from Barney Friends for pre
schoolers, up to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone and the animated Mr Bean series for older
children. While in Thailand, Virgin Radio Asia has just launched two new radio stations aimed
at young listeners. Stations in the northern university city, Chiang Mai, and on the holiday
island of Ko Samui, are in addition to the four stations Virgin has launched in Bangkok since
entering the Thai market two years ago. Content for Chiang Mai will be based on the Bangkok
station Virgin Hitz, with a focus on top 40 popular music, and on Ko Samui will broadcast easy
listening music to help listeners kick back in tropical paradise , Virgin says. Radio technology
predates TV, and is well behind the days of MMS and video streaming, but its affordability and
portability makes it a good choice if not necessarily a favourite for youth marketers. Radio is
huge for this market, says Ian Stewart, CEO of youth brand specialist marketers The Filter Group.
We re big supporters of radio because the fact is young people are at home doing their studying,
there s only one TV in the house and that s being watched by everybody else, so they put the radio

Academic Characteristics Of Hip Hop Culture
The purpose of this paper is to explore the major characteristics of hip hop studies, how they
have evolved over the years, and how hip hop can be used to teach others. To begin, a great
summary of the major characteristics of hip hop studies is The Kaledioscope of Writing on Hip
Hop Culture by Gail Hilson Woldu. For instance, in his book Woldu discusses the academic
characteristic of hip hop studies (Woldu, 10). The author gives several examples of major works
that have come from academic writing. He also goes into great detail about what they each focus
on. For example, Woldu mentions Black Noise from author Tricia Rose as being a book that falls
into the academic characteristic of hip hop studies (Woldu, 13). Woldu states, .... this... Show more

Again, these are simply a few the many examples provided by Woldu. All of these examples go to
show that the journals are a major characteristic.
Finally, the last major characteristic of hip hop studies that Woldu discusses is what he calls the
devotees (Woldu, 30). Woldu states, All are clearly more than devotees in the sense that they are
far more than fans or hip hop groupies (Would, 30). Examples that he provides are, for instance,
Bill Adler (Woldu, 30). Woldu states, Bill Adler, a former rap publicist...wrote a biography of
rappers Run DMC (woldu, 31). Another example is Nelson George. According to Woldu, the
recipient of two ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards and an American Book Award, George is the author
of eight nonfiction books on African Americanculture... (Woldu, 31). Again, these examples go to
show that this is a major characteristic of hip hop studies.
Aside from simply looking at the major characteristics, one can also examine the ways in which
they have evolved. For instance, one can dive into the evolution of the academic characteristic.
One major way in which these characteristics have evolved is simply by the topics they cover.
When looking at what was commonly talked about back in the early days of hip hop, and then
compare it to the topics discussed today one will notice a difference. That main difference being
that the topics are very thoughtful and look for deeper meaning.
Furthermore, there is always room for more areas of

Taking a Look at Celiac Disease
The digestive tract is a group of tubes that extend from the mouth to the anus. Digestive diseases
range from the occasional upset stomach to the more life threatening cancers and infections within
the liver, the gallbladder, and the pancreas. Most digestive diseases are prevalent in the elderly.
Intestinal infections such as gastroenteritis and appendicitis are higher in among infants and
children. Other diseases like hemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic liver disease,
occur more commonly among teenagers and middle aged adults.
The celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the lining of the small intestine and an
abnormal immune reaction to gluten. Celiac disease is a genetic disease. The disease does not
always immediately happen; sometimes it has to be triggered. Some things that can trigger this
disease or make it become active are childbirth, pregnancy, heavy emotional stress, a viral infection,
and even after surgery.
The damage of the intestine makes it difficult for the absorption of nutrients from food such as fat,
calcium, iron and folate. Those with this disease cannot intake gluten which is found in wheat, rye,
and barely. When people with the celiac disease eat foods or use products that contain gluten, their
immune system responds by destroying the villi, finger like projections of the mucous membrane
lining the small intestine. Villi are what allow the nutrients from foods we intake to be absorbed
into the walls of the small

Feminist Perspective On Pornography
Many people have argued that pornography is a form of artistic expression, protected by the First
Amendment of the Constitution, others feel there is a distinct line between art and porn
(Pornogrpahy). Pornography is made to provide sexual pleasure to anyone who hears, sees or reads
it, it involves erotic acts. Pornographycould be talking, acting, or anything that may sexually
stimulate someone. Pornography is also, the portrayal of sexual activities and it comes in the
form of magazines, movies, videos, and more. Pornography is often seen to overstep the bounds
of the First Amendment and misrepresent what is means by freedom of speech. Pornography isn
t something that everyone can agree on. For example, feminist are one group of people have a
variety of feelings and beliefs towards pornography. While feminist usually share the same way of
thinking this is one topic that causes a major division between them. Disagreeing to agree is a
common compromise that people face in life, but in the case of pornography feminist can not seem
to do so. Andrea Dworkinand Catharine A. Mackinnon(Feminist Perspectives), are just two of the
women that have stood up against pornography. There are a plethora of feminist see
pornography as a way to keep women oppressed and subjected to man. Almost as if porn is
taking women in a step backwards.Mackinnon believes porn is an act of sexual violence
(McElroy) and Dworkin sees it as sexist and a deliberate means of subordinating women to men
(Feminist Perspectives). Dworkin and Mackinnon collectively view pornography as not a form of
speech, but as an active discrimination and violence against women (Feminist Perspectives).
Popular pornography includes abusive scenes and language that is extremely derogatory towards
women. Through research it is also believed that due to the acts of violence and sexual abuse
depicted in pornography it is causing men to reenact and bring what they ve watched to life
(Purcell). Consequently, due to the voices of the anti porn feminist there has been many legal
actions taken against the porn industry. There has been several ordinances drawn up, a few were
done by Catharine A. Mackinnon. Mackinnon and Dworkin had a civil rights ordinance that

Recent Changes in the Print Industry
The print industry in our society has always served as a pillar in providing mass media to society.
Print industry can trace its root back to the ancient Egyptians, China, and Europe in the first 10
centuries. Not until the mid 1400 s did the print industry reach a pivotal transformation, which was
the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg. This allowed for faster mass production of printed
materials such as the Bible for instance. Century after century this industry evolved into a
worldwide business for providing information to the masses. In our society today, the Internet is our
main source for business, communication, getting information, etc. The Internet has evolved since
first being introduced into something everyone in a sense needs, since it can help with our lives.
The print industry is currently co existing with the Internet and digital technology industries, and
the print industry has struggled and has been forced to adapt. Our society is moving faster and
getting information faster due to the Internet and digital technology. The print industry cannot keep
up with the digital age in regards to providing information. It s that digital has surpassed print. It has
many advantages and with technology constantly growing there will be more. Characteristics of
digital include: ubiquity, speed, permanence, search ability, the ability to update, the ability to
remix, targeting, interaction, marketing via links, and data feedback. Digital transcends the
limitations of print

How To Play A Woodwind Instrument
When I was in fifth grade, I was caught between two worlds, playing a woodwind or string
instrument. If I played a woodwind instrument, I would have to blow in it to make music, but string
instruments consist of playing with a bow to make music. After much thought, I decided that the
violin was the best instrument due to its beautiful, unique sound, plus the possibilities are never
ending. I could receive a compliment from a teacher, or even be accepted to the symphony.
In elementary, I was known as the best player for my patience and understanding of every piece we
played in the orchestra. Your daughter is my best student in all four schools that I teach, exclaimed
my orchestra teacher, Ms. Nichols, to my mother. Ever since then, I have been practicing my violin
every minute of every day. At the end of my sixth grade year, I received a letter stating that I have

student striving for a bachelor in the arts and she was the one improvement I needed. I went to
see her every week and tried my best to accomplish as much as possible but nothing would
differentiate. We tried to do whatever possible that would help. We played in sync and recorded
ourselves to hear what we sounded like. A lady who was in a car and just realized they passed their
destination, hence having to do a U turn, would define the exact sound that I made. Instead of
laughing, she motivated me to change my routine and express my feelings, but instead of
expressing them emotionally, I shall express them on an instrument. It was a glorious moment and

Difference in twins and clones
From the very beginning of evolution, human beings have been developing themselves rapidly in
physical and mental aspects. With every successful evolutionary era, human beings are found to
be somewhat alike to their ancestor. Birth of twins is always a matter of great curiosity in world.
Many are amazed with this fact of twining. The fact that contrasts offspring s being alike to their
ancestor is a genetic carrier called DNA. DNA is a double helical structure that is composed of
genetic material called chromosomes. Chromosomes found in human body cells are equal in
number in each cell and are formed after the cell division and condensation of DNA (charlotte 3).
With growing technology and scientific progress artificial twining called cloning is also made
possible. But, Identical twins made from biological parents are incomparable to the clones made
from a genetic host.
Genetic material called Chromosomes carry genetic material from springs to spring with slight
variation. During birth unusual division of chromosome can give birth to twins. Twins can be of
two types identical twins and fraternal twins. Identical twins look alike but fraternal twins do not.
Twining is a biological process. There is another artificial process of making twins that is cloning,
which results same as twining. Usually by definition, clones are living organism that has placed
themselves in a different

What Are The Theories Of International Relations
International Relations as a discipline concerned with the relationships existing between sovereign
units in the international arena, wherein each unit (state or non state actor) may be motivated by
self interest and the pursuit of power, however the behavior of each unit is not independent of the
prevailing norms existing within international society.
In other words it provides a network upon which international relations can be analysed and how

Texting Shortcuts No Threat For Children s Developing...
Texting shortcuts no threat to children s developing language skills, study finds This article from
The Mercury investigates a study conducted in collaboration with researchers in England and
Tasmania. The study examines the relationship between the use of texting language and language
skills in young students. There has been a general consensus that the overuse of electronic devices
must impair the language ability. However the research found no negative relationship between
formal writing skills and the use of textisms . Furthermore the study suggests that texting can
actually have a positive effect. The article suggests that the reason this study reached conclusions
that differ from previous studies was that this was the first time students were followed up on their
formal test results a year later . Topic 1: Research methods The procedure of the study was
comprised of three components. Firstly, participants were asked to complete a questionnaire in
order to collect data about the participant s texting habits and their demographic information (De

two lists into texting language; one list was typed into their phone and the other was written on

The Bombay Plan And Its Predecessor Attempts
2.2The Bombay Plan and its Predecessor Attempts
The Bombay Plan had the most important share in the establishment of an independent economic
policy in the Post colonial Period. India earned its independence from Great Britain in 1947 and
starting with this date, it mainly focused on restoration of the economy via centralization. For
centralization process, an economic model that was inspired by Soviet Union called Five Year Plan
was developed and was accepted by the Indian the Government in 1952. (Lokanathan, 1945).
Another part of the Five Year Plan was to intensify irrigation infrastructure such as watering systems
for agricultural activities, which preserved the remarkable majority of Indian economy.
Furthermore, in the context of this plan; scientific investigations, including space and nuclear
programmes were additional fields that India paid attention similar to the Soviet Union.
Nonetheless; economy of India did not correspond all these attempts immediately because of
previous excessive investments in defense industry that aimed to enhance resistance to Colonial
Rule. The main problems were inadequacy in generation of asset and qualified people along
with required improved facilities. Due to these scarcities of sources; for 28 years (1951 1979)
Indian economy yielded 3% annual average increase and this growth rate reflected as fixed low
charges during all this period. Given the returns of the Five Year Plan; industrial and agricultural
activities yielded 4.5%

Entering International Markets Essays
Entering International Markets Measuring a potential business venture has many aspects which the
international manager must be aware of in order to convey the correct information back to the
decision makers. Being ignorant to any of the aspects can lead to a false representation of the
project, and hence an uninformed decision being passed. In order for a business to survive it must
grow. For growth to be optimal, management must first be able to identify the most attractive

must be looked at in order to yieldthe best possible picture of the market a company wishes to enter.

After sifting through the leads and finding the right ones to investigate management must formulate
an international marketing plan. This further helps management in locating potential markets for
their products. The first step is to use secondary research to find out what the sales potential is in a
given market. Asking the questions of need, demand, and support gives one a starting point for
research. If we were a company that sold pants we might want to ask the following questions. Is
there a need for pants? Is it cold enough there to wear pants? Do people that demand the pants have
money? These are the questions that one should ask of potential markets. Table 1 located at the end
of the paper shows the statistics that are needed for a general market picture. After gathering the
information from the secondary research, the picture of a potential market becomes more evident.
However, to make the picture clearer, one must conduct primary research. This research outlines the
specifics of the potential market that directly pertain to the product. Robert Douglas book,
Penetrating the International Market, addresses the issue of locating potential markets in greater
detail.2
[mg1] After finding a lead that contains profitable markets it is necessary to analyze the venture as
a whole. The decisions of companies must be based on the facts of reliable sources on all
investments. To gather the information

is and how to do it and use it. Throughout CCNA we learned how to configure a Router; the
different types of Routing protocols and most importantly what, when and how to use those
protocols in the field. Finally I will discuss Switches in how they are use to set up a LAN.

The most common of the two link state protocols is OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) it is widely
used throughout the field (#1) due to it being a non proprietor protocol as well as its ability to
interface with other networks. With OSPF you can group router into small areas and link them
through a back bone when this is done you create the following a back bone router within the
area of the back bone there is an area border router (ABR), ABR must have one interface in each
area meaning the back bone and the area trying to link to the back bone, OSPF can also connect
to multiple Autonomous System. When configuring OSPF you must assign a process number in
all router within that group must use that same number, the number can range for 1 to 65,535
you can also have more than one each one will maintain its own separate topology table as well
as manage it independently. There is also distance vectors RIP vs. 1 and 2 (Routing Information

EIGRP (is the enhanced version of IGRP). The thing about these two meaning IGRP and EIGRP is

Taking A Closer Look At Victoria s Secret
For my research paper I chose one of my favorite companies, which is Victoria s Secret. They are
a profit organization and the company sells lingerie, womenswear and beauty products. Victoria s
Secret has been in business since June 12, 1977 in Ohio who was founded by Roy Raymond and

their wives or girlfriends without being judged. Then throughout the years it was changed to just a

themselves up front. For example, they need to change their stores body type image. They need
to have a plus size models to show a difference in their brand that VS is not just for slim figured
women, but also for average women. This way customers won t feel insecure about their bodies and

Holden s Alienation In Catcher In The Rye
Holden never quite fitted in to society s tradition norms and this is obvious from his poor
academic performance, scoffing at authority and his distinct choice of clothing that is promotes
his isolation even more but what exactly is Holden alienated from? At best society, but more
importantly himself and others and since Holden does not own up to his own mistakes nor ever
assess his judgment which purely reflects himself, he remains alienated from the world. Early
one we learn that Holden is failing the majority of his classes and the closest person to being
considered his friend is Holden s history teacher: Mr. Spencer, who is only someone who feels
responsible for Holden s negligence in academic performance but this is nothing extraordinary since

Holden admitted that this idea was idiotic and Holden had no problem divulging this to the
reader and the reader might find this insignificant but quite coincidentally, these occurrences
happen whenever reality is too much for Holden to handle. A great example of this was when
Old Spencer asked Holden if his future was significant to him, to which Holden divulges to the
reader that this subject is quite depressing for him but in order for a simple concept such as the
future to be so depressing, one may infer that Holden has gone through a series of unhealthy events

The Arguments Of Athanasius And Arius At The Council Of...
Critically evaluate the arguments of Athanasius and Arius at the Council of Nicaea
The Patristic Era saw various controversies arising over the nature of Jesus Christ, which
consequently lead to the establishment of the creed as an attempt to reject the heretical views held
by proponents. An example of a heretical advocate is Arius, who suggested Christ was inferior to
God, but still above other creatures (McGrath, 2001, p.358). However, early orthodox theologians
disputed this idea due to the soteriological complications that accompanied it (Young, 2010, p.55).
The central advocator of this dispute was Athanasius, who questioned how Arius belief allowed for
salvation through Jesus Christ, which is a key orthodox belief identified ... Show more content on

This heretical view is further fought against through Athanasius extensive focus on Jesus death and
the implications that this had on humanity as told by the Bible (Young, 2010, p.55); Romans
(10:9) explicitly states Jesus is the Lord and the only route to salvation. So it can be argued, if
Jesus is not God, as Arius suggests, then it is not possible for humanity to reach salvation, which
results in diminishment of the purpose of Christian faith. Thus, it is acceptable to assume that the
Nicene Creed s assertion of the homoousious relationship of God and Jesus, as a rejection of
Arianism, was essential to early Christian theology because it provided certainty for the
establishment of the faith.
Although the consubstantial nature of Jesus and God was confirmed at Nicaea, it wasn t
definitively defined because Arians responded with another heretical view: Jesus and God were
homoiousious. The belief that God and Jesus were only similar in nature allowed for
subordinationism to manifest, which was a heresy that asserted God the Father was superior to
Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Williams, 2001, p.133). So this belief accepts the Trinity but has
misinterpreted the orthodox declaration of the idea. Arius told of the unequal glories amongst each
distinct being within the Trinity (Williams, 2001, p.102). This was scorned by Athanasius who
knew of the homoousious relationship through scripture (Colossians 2:9), which is how God
expresses

while they have to work hard to active goals they know there are other things that come in the

person is willing to do anything to get what he/she wants. They both have a ton of commonalities
in themes like stereotypical , identity , perseverance, and responsibility. This can also be seen in

that the Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the

Christian Rap And The Music
As I sat in my chair of the fancy hall (which name I cannot remember for the life of me) last spring

But if lost people hear the comments of the homeschoolers that I heard we will just be seen as stuck
up and higher than the lost person. With that our ministry and witness will began to crumble. Christ
met people where they were, so why should the Christians of today s culture do the same for the
lost souls?
As someone who did not grow up in church and did not become a Christian until a few years ago
was learning that secular music, while not honoring Christ at all can be used as a ministry.
Knowing the love of Christ helped me to hear a deeper meaning in rap songs when I listened to
them. Through that I began to see that in every rap song there was some type of brokenness to
the artist as they rapped about going through multiple girls but not finding the right one, having all
this money but never enough stuff, and looking for conformation from all the wrong people.
People, especially Christians want to look down on the rap community because the lifestyle they
live in but they cannot see that these very same people that are idolized by the world are just as
broken as we are/were. Without an understanding of this music how can we show lost people that
they can listen to the style that they are so found of while worshipping the God that made them?
My youth minister helped me change the way I worship by not judging the rap I was listening to,
but instead pointed me into a further direction of worship with God. I was getting set to drive us to

The Importance Of Family On My Family
Family is important, including your ancestors. Your family history can say a lot about your
current position in society. Society has a way of classifying people into groups based on
resources known as stratification. Social stratification as defined by the book refers to how
individuals and groups are layered and ranked in society according to their access to and
possession of valued resources (Ballantine, Roberts, and Korgen 2018). After talking to my dad
and mom about my family history I got a better idea as to where my family is on the social class
ladder and I was able to see how my ancestors lives shaped my life in some ways that can be
understood from a sociological perspective. On my mom s side of the family I learned a little bit
about her, my mom s name is Kimberly; her parents, my grandparents, Richard and Kay Leet; and
Kay s parents, my great grandparents, Charles and Mildred Whitney. Mildred Whitney graduated
from Upper IowaUniversity with a Bachelor of Arts in teaching. She was a teacher and directed
school plays. Then when she had Kay she was a stay at home mom. My mom, Kimberly, was
not fully sure where Charles Whitney graduated, but he received a Master s degree and was a
superintendent of schools. Kay Leet graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (now University
of Northern Iowa) with a Bachelor of Arts in teaching. She taught elementary school for a few
years and then she was a stay at home mom once she had Kimberly. Then once Kimberly was

Cubism And Post-Impressionism And The Movements That...
The movements that greatly influenced the sexualization of woman would be Cubism and Post
Impressionism. This theme is based on the idea that female nudity is the most popular convention
that promotes the topic of sexuality in art. As well as the idea that a lot can be said and taught
about feminism while looking at the tradition of female nudityin different artworks. The social
construct of how the different genders (male and female) are portrayed in Modern paintings is
another very complex topic that is emphasized in these two pieces. For example, women are given
certain expectations and ideas of how they should behave. One thing that is not so prominent in the
theme would be how the sexualation of woman could be less than offensive and how at this time it
actually was more based on a woman s fertility and maternity than anything. The role of gender and
sexuality in modern art is very prominent in paintings that come from Paul Cezanne and Pablo
Picasso. However, Cezanne returned to the traditional way of sexualizing nude female figures,
while Picasso put his own twist on the subject matter.
Paul Cezanne touched on this topic in his 1906 oil painting The Large Bathers. This piece
influenced many Modern Artists, especially Pablo Picasso. This life size painting is an unfinished
piece that features fourteen naked women on a riverbank. Cezanne intentionally sexualized the
woman in his painting by painting them nude, not to carry a freight of meaning, but rather,

Lessons Learned from Notes to a Native Son
Realizing What Society Really Is
Born in 1924, James Baldwin grew up in Harlem during harsh racism and the infamous Jim Crow
laws. In addition to being surrounded by hate crimes and riots, Baldwin had a rough relationship
with his father, who died when Baldwin was only nineteen. Twelve years after his father?s death,
Baldwin wrote an essay, entitled ?Notes of a Native Son,? which described the events that took
place around the time of his father?s death. Being one of his trademark talents, he also inserted
periods of analysis while narrating the story. These insights, often reflections on his life and actions,

(63). He spent so much time despising his father and staying away from him that he lost touch
with the special bond between father and son. He could have absorbed so much more knowledge
and been much happier in his childhood if he truly connected with his father, because his father
had so many experiences and perspectives of his own which could have been shared with his son.
The father son relationship is a very important base of learning, for the son, about his environment,
and since young Baldwin separated himself from his father, he lost that chance.
Although Baldwin did not really get to know his father, he began to look back on his life and
realize that his father wanted only the best for him. His father would gloat with pride about how
wonderful a preacher Baldwin was, during the short time that he was a preacher. James Baldwin
could remember his father actually was ?grinning with pleasure? after his sermons, as opposed to
the continuous look of disgust and hatred that he was used to as he was growing up (79). Instead
of working off of the happier times that he had with his father, Baldwin ignored those times and
focused on the many times where tensions occurred. His father also tried to spend time with his
kids, but his ?inability to establish contact? made his kids actually fear whenever he was home

Salem Witch Trials Essay
The Salem Witch Trials was a very dark period in our history that occurred in the colony of
Salem, Massachusetts. These trials began in February 1692 and ended in May of 1693. There
were over two hundred individuals who were accused of practicing witchcraft. Of those two
hundred accused, nearly twenty innocent souls were lost. This was one of the most severe cases of
mass hysteria in recorded history. There was a great effort exhorted by the Massachusetts General
Court to declare a guilty verdict, that the framers of the United States Constitution went to great

deduced. Partly due to fear and also not being able to diagnose these fits, members of the
community suspected witchcraft to be the culprit. Little did the community know what was about to
transpire in their town over the next year.
The Salem Witch Trials officially began in February 1692 when the afflicted girls accused Tituba,
Ms. Good and Ms. Osborne of witchcraft. Tituba confessed to witchcraft. Not only did she
confess, she also said there were many others who were working for Satan. This triggered the

These girls did not all show symptoms at one time. The first girl to start experiencing symptoms
was Betty Parris. She was followed by Abigail Williams, Ann Putnam Jr., Mary Walcott and Mercy
Lewis (History of Massachusetts). These girls were throwing tantrums, hiding under furniture and
contorting to pain. Since panic and fear set in, witchcraft was the easy choice to make. In today s
medical science, these girls would have been diagnosed with boredom or epilepsy. Although at the
time the cause was unknown, these symptoms were probably brought on from eating rye infected
with fungus. The three victims were not the only ones accused. There were numerous cases of
scapegoating running prevalent.

Foucault s theorisation of the power/knowledge relationship
Foucault in theorizing the relationship between power and knowledge basically focused on how
power operated in the institutions and in its techniques. The point is how power was supported by
knowledge in the functioning of institutions of punishment. He places the body at the centre of the
struggles between different formations of power/knowledge. The techniques of regulation are
applied to the body (Wheterell et al., 2001: 78)
Power is the ability to control others or one s entity. Accordingly it can be defined as a kind of

Great Craft In The Great Gatsby
Gatsby? demanded Daisy. What Gatsby? (11). F. Scott Fitzgerald created The Great Gatsby with
great craft. The reader understands the story through Nick s eyes. Nick encounters many parties,

What Is The Development Of The Air Force In World War 1
Prior to WW2 the power of the U.S. Navy fleet was in her battleships. During the course of the
war, the aircraft carrier came into its being as the greatest asset afloat. Unfortunately, the United
States was not the ones to capitalize on this first. The bombing of Perl Harbor, Hawaii proved
how formidable the carrier could be. This portable airfield with its air force proved time and
time again how important a roll this craft could be. With victories at Midway, Saipan and Iwo
Jima, the carrier was the most prized fighter of the war. As World War 2 was drawing to a close it
was evident to military leaders that, with the progression of aviation during the war, more was

Development
At the time the DCNO announced the requirements for the Navy s new bomber, Ed Heinemann,
of the Douglas Aircraft Corporation, was working on developing a medium range nuclear
bomber for the newly formed Air Force. There were two proposals that he had been working on,
one was a turbo prop model that weighed in at 80,000 lbs, and the other was powered by turbo
jet engines weighing in at 70,000 lbs. Urged by Douglas executives he pitched his designs to the
Navy. However, the Navy was looking for a larger aircraft to occupy its new super carrier, the
USS United States CV 58, and his concepts were not received with much regard. Undaunted, Ed
Heinemann returned to Douglas El Segundo plant and began work to modify his plans from an
Air Force aircraft to one that could serve the Navy. Whether due to his contacts or just extreme
luck, Ed did not believe that CV 58 would ever be built. His continued efforts were driven to
provide the Navy with an aircraft that could operate on existing carrier designs. Due to the nature
of the intended payload most of the design and research was conducted in secret. The payload itself
presented problems of its own. The current model of nuclear

News Coverage of September 11th, 2001 Essay
The attack that occurred on September 11th, 2001 on the World Trade Center in New York City
is an event that lingers in the minds of many Americans and other people throughout the world.
Most people can recall exactly where they were and whom they were with when they first heard
about the airplanes crashing into the towers. It was a day that changed the way people looked at
the world and brought to light the realities that even the wealthiest and most military advanced
country was not safe from acts of terrorism. The dangers posed by religious extremist were being
carried out on national and international news outlets live in front of millions if not billions of
people worldwide. The events that occurred on this day changed the way... Show more content on

The viewers saw the pictures on the screen at the same time as the anchors did (Morgensen 38).
Garry Tuchman a National Correspondent from CNN states, The most important thing is to be
accurate...be honest and explain that there s a lot of commotion and chaos. And while you re
staying clam, explain we re trying to gather the information the best we can. We are going to
give it to you as it comes but if we re not sure about it, we ll make it clear to you (Morgensen 38).
Newscasts from NBC, Sky, and BBC World reported the news almost identical and in a way that
informed viewers that they too were unsure of the motive if any behind the plane crashes into the
twin towers. It was clearly stated by both domestic and foreign news stations that many detail
were unclear and they would be made available as they came in. It was not only a story that
affected Americans but also people throughout the World. For the first time since Pearl Harbor
Americans were being attacked on their own soil. Due to the surprise and scale of the attacks of 9
/11 it focused the worlds attention to New York City because it showed if this could happen to the
mightiest country in the world it could happen to any other nation.
It is important to note the way in which the news was broadcasted. A new name would become
embedded into the minds of Americans, Osama Bin Laden along with his terror network known as
Al Qaeda. As the media in the United States began to find a motivation behind the attacks

Evaluation Of The Wheaton Sanitary District
The Wheaton Sanitary District is already using a state of the art monitoring system to track status
and record the measurement of the key plant operational equipment. The Supervisory Control and
Data Access (SCADA) system interfaced with the plant equipment provides, the operation team, a
real time data on the key components of the plant s equipment. SCADA allows operational team to
open, close or adjust equipment parameters to archive maximum efficiency to meet the peak
demand. According to Russell and Taylor (2014), the size and complexity of the problem makes
the decision making often difficult. Further, the flow is controlled by a bottleneck, so any resource
should spend no time on non productive activities, but must have material to work on to overcome
the theory of constrain and the focus should be of automation efforts. SCADA does allow
automation and the data collected from SCADA helps aeration optimization for scheduling which
will ultimately reflect any capacity limitations. The new high energy turbo blowers save 30%
energy to mix and aerate the tanks (Poole, Neighbors, Green, Baert, Sosnowski, and Wold, 2012)
and the control flow provides additional saving with no additional capital cost. The real time
monitoring and the dissolved oxygen (D.O.) measuring in the aeration tanks allows a development
of a new plant control strategies to optimize the system performance thus consuming less power.

When people hear the label digital natives or millennials a typical shared though by many is that
they, the young people that these labels are referring to, are good with technology usually this
assumed technological gift is equated to something ridiculous such as they are born with a cell
phone in their hands and that they will be a computer genius before they can walk. Though these
outrageous assumptions are often made in jest, there does seem to be a bit of underlying belief to
them; this belief can restrict the amount of technological skill still developing children who are, in
fact, not born with advanced knowledge of technology are able to gain. Because of this, through an

The program I observed took place on Saturday, April 29th in the children s center story time
room at the central branch. The program was called Sphero Robots, and it was targeted at
children ages eight and up. The summary and description listed on the library s website explain
that children will learn basic programing of a BB 8 droid (spl.org). The program was scheduled
from noon to 2 pm, and when I arrived at 11:30 am there was already a child and parent waiting
for the program to begin. The program was a part of teen service learning which is a partnership
between the library and high schools where students receive service learning credits while
learning valuable skills. There were seven high school students who were completely in charge of
creating and running the program; they were supervised by one of the Teen Services Librarians
who only stepped in when one of the teens requested she do so. I wanted to see how the children
interacted with the droids were they excited to learn to program, or were they more excited to just
play with them. I also wanted to see how the parents and teens interacted with the children while
they were in control of the droids what kind of instruction methods they would use, how much
independence they would give the children, and how they would react to the children who were
uninterested in learning to program and just wanted to play

The Mining Of Mining Industry
Mining is an essential need for humans to access coal which produce rich resource to generate
electricity. Mining comes as simplistic image of just people in hard hats with a pickaxe repeatedly
pounding onto rocks until they gather desired materials. However, mining requires a trade cost in
order to get reliable energy resource, as coalmininginfluences and infatuated the environment
around it. In particular, surface mines, also known as strip mines, is a practice mining commonly
used to access coal by removing layers of overlying soil and rock. Additionally, strip mining
requires heavy used of machines, such as bulldozers, power shovels, and trucks in order to extract
the resources from the ground. Surface miningis arguably the most effective type of mining, as 60
percent of the world s materialistic coal comes from the practice of this type of mining. Thus tactics
of surface mining at such fast and furious pace is in not an efficient method for gathering resources,
and will result in pollution and negligent on the land, forests and soil, and water that environment
provides naturally.
Surface mining, also known as strip mining, is a mining practice defined as very shallow ore
seam is first exposed by removing all of the overlying soil and rock, otherwise known as the
overburden. The ore is then excavated and removed from the surface. (Gates Blauvelt, Mining and
Pollution) Alternatively, surface mining utilizes and removes the soil in order to yield high

Tuc s Decision To The General Strike Of 1926
On May 4, 1926, Britain had a great amount of miner workers walked out on their jobs. This was
the beginning of a General Strike. The strike was called out by the Trade Union. The strike was
stared because owners of different miners wanted to reduce the wages of their workers down by
13 per cent and with that, they also wanted them to increase their shifts. The TUC s decision to
strike was carried by 3,653,527 votes to 49,911 on May 1st, 1926. Over the following week
crowds of workers took to the streets. The government was not happy with what was going on
and decided to act against the strike. With the media giving awareness to the strike, it caused a
huge number of road transport, bus, docks, printing, chemical, and coal workers to stay off work.
However, some middle class people volunteered, and help get some buses, trains, and electricity
working. The strikers acted aggressively towards that and set out to set a few busses on fire.

The government also seized the supply of paper, which made it difficult for the trade union to

to publish things, only because it could possibly make the strikes more upset. On May 10th some
textile workers decided to join the strike. Still with the government having no control over the
situation, the number of volunteers called strike breakers (mostly the middle class) tried to help
get everything back up and running. The strike breakers were afraid because the violence that

The Effects Of Autonomous Cars On Society Essay
Tyler Hagemeier
Dr. Learst
English 102
20 November 2016
Argumentative Essay While researching articles about autonomous cars, I found a few authors who
wrote about the effects of autonomous cars on society and whether or not these should be
introduced to our world s roads. On one hand, some authors believe self driving cars should not be
allowed on roads. They believe this revolution in the change of cars will destroy large industries
which includes the auto insurance industry, parking industry, and auto aftermarket industry.
However, with the expansion of these new technologies, it could introduce new industries as well.
Some say autonomous cars draw questions of ethicality with accidents because there is not a
human driving the vehicle. The truth is, human drivers cause a shocking amount of accidents
each year which could be greatly decreased by autonomous cars. My goal in this paper is to
argue that autonomous or self driving cars should be introduced to our world s roads because
there will be less accidents, massive economic benefits, and a more efficient form of
transportation. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into three sections. In this first
section, I will provide evidence and discuss the amount of accidents human drivers create on the
roads. I will then explain how self driving cars can limit the amount of accidents and discuss the
ethics of autonomous cars. In the second section, I will explain how autonomous cars can benefit the

Controversy Between Theistic Evolution And Religion
As Francis Collins stated, Theistic Evolution is the belief that evolution is real, but that it was set in
motion by God (Collins). Theistic Evolution does not separate the ideas of Creation and Evolution,
and consider them as contrasting ideas. Instead, Theistic Evolution proposes that God s Creation
included Evolution. People with this belief argue that Evolution is a part of God s Plan. Instead of
interpreting the Bible literally, people of Theistic Evolution belief believe that the Bible should be
interpreted loosely, taking only certain amounts the Bible for truth. Theistic Evolution accepts all
scientific discoveries, or theories, such as the Big Bang, Evolution, and that the world began
millions of years ago. The controversy with Theistic Evolution, is that it is considered to contradict
itself, choosing to interpret only some portions of the Bible literally. The problem is that Christians
with this belief are accepting Humanistic world views, which contradict and are inconsistent with
the Bible and Christian religion. While the book of Genesis states that God created the Earth before
the Sun and the Moon, people of the Evolutionist belief say the opposite, claiming that the Sun and
the Moon came before the Earth (Mortenson).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One issue, is that if Christians believe that God rested after the six day creation of the Earth, when
do people that believe in Theistic Evolution believe He rested? Evolution is an ongoing process,
therefore, there has been no time for rest. Theistic Evolutionists are therefore discrediting Genesis
and the Word of God (Stewart). Theistic Evolution also contradicts the Creation of Adam. The
book of Genesis says that God created Man from the dust. God created Adam, a full human. He did
not create a sub human or anything else that developed into Adam, He just created Adam. Theistic
Evolution claims that man developed by evolving from a prior

Relationships Between Friendliness And Hostility And...
Abstract
In this study, we looked at the relationships between friendliness and hostility and agreeableness in
college students. We hypothesized that students who were high in friendliness would also be high
in agreeableness, while being low in hostility. We expected a strong correlation with agreeableness,
and a slightly strong correlation with hostility. However, when looking at all three traits we found
that agreeableness, while being the big umbrella it is, might not fully account for traits underneath
it. As well as friendliness and hostility having a stronger negative correlation than we anticipated.
Keywords: Friendliness, Hostility, Agreeableness, Personality
Friendliness in College age Students In this study we aimed to look at the personality trait of
friendliness. Friendliness can be defined as the good nature, amiability of one s personality. In
other words: how agreeable and outgoing one is towards others. Friendliness has been found to
be more prevalent in females than males (Moskowitz, 1993), and has been found to be generalized
across situations. In this research we want to look at college students to see if there is any
significance between friendliness and aggressiveness. To do this we have created our own
friendliness scale and compared it to the Iowa State Hostility Scale (Dill, Anderson, Anderson,
Deuser, 1997) and the agreeableness items from the Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) (Gosling,
Augustine, Vazire, Holtzman, Gaddis, 2011).

Well Rested children. Researchers are show that sleep is crucial to the physical and emotional well
being of children especially during studying. The early morning classes might be devastating to
many kids, particularly those individuals who are not morning people.

will understand the material, they can save their time and complete in a few hours what usually
takes usual classroom a week or sometimes more to cover.
Even homeschooling has that kind of positive effects; it also has disadvantages makes some parents
worry about them. For example:
1.Homeschooling considers as a hard work for the parents, planning the course of instruction,
making own schedule is not easy. It takes time that parent may be sometimes needs to use for
another important things. Also the teaching process itself needs time and accuracy, organizing all
these processes will be impossible especially for those families who have many children.
2.Homeschooling might be one of the reasons for financial stress. When all responsibility for

Change At Work Analysis
Changing isn t always the easiest thing to do, but in writing it is necessary. Whether it s changing
your genre; which includes style, form, focus, tone, word choice. Or changing it to fit a new
workplace which is explained in Wardle s essay Identity, Authority, and Learning to Write in New
Workplaces. Roozens Tracing Trajectories of Practice: Repurposing in One Student s Developing
Disciplinary WritingProcess is also an example of how change affects someone s writing. Change is
crucial for people in any new or different environment.

Alan may also be demonstrating their desire to identify with communities of practice other than
the primary ones in which they work by refusing to appropriate new ways of writing (Wardle 294).
Roozen is explaining how Alan s refusal to change is because of the community he identifies with,
and because he doesn t identify himself with the new workplace he doesn t find it necessary to
adjust to the new writing techniques. Alan continued to only write in his own way and did not
become a member of his new community. No one in his new community change to accommodate
his stubbornness, this ended in Alan leaving the workplace looking for employment

Louisiana Purchase Dbq Essay
The Louisiana Purchase nearly doubled the size of the United States in 1803. Jefferson decided
to buy the land because he wanted to increase the United States s territory towards the Pacific
ocean and to avoid a war with the French. Due to the purchase, Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis
and William Clark to explore the new unfamiliar land with three goals. The goals were to makes
maps of the newly bought territory and find a river passage to the Pacific ocean, make peace
with the Native American, and to record and send back discoveries of new plant and animal life
that lived within the Louisiana Territory. These were the goals that Lewis and Clark had to
achieve. The first goal was to draw accurate maps of the land and to find a water route that led
into the Pacific ocean. Lewis and Clark began their expedition at St. Louis and travelled through
the Missouri River. Clark was a map maker and he drew accurate maps of the land. Document 1
demonstrates an example of Clark s detailed and accurate map of the Missouri River. The map
showed where the Missouri was located. Lewis and Clark were tasked with the job of drawing out

the United States had peace with that tribe and that soon they will be able to trade goods with each

  • 3. Personal Norm Violations Norm Violations Paper Kameron Edwards Bakersfield College Norm Violations Paper As we know, norms are social expectations that guide our behavior. In this paper, I will discuss norm violations that I ve observed, and my own personal norm violation that I committed. I will describe what happened, what was done, and the reactions of the people around when these norms begat. I will also discuss the significance of folkways, mores, values, and sanctions to my observations. There were two norms in which I observed. The first violation I spotted was a bit... out of the ordinary. One day, I decided to take a trip to the Marketplace on Ming with one of my buddies. All was seemingly normal until we stumbled upon a sight that shocked both of us. It was around 7:30 p.m. when we walked upon a pack of humans standing in a circle with their dogs. They were located where the suit stores and black tables are. As we first walked up, there seemed to be only a few dogs and a few humans. As we drew nearer, though, we found that there were at least 30 humans and 30 dogs. That was unbelievable. As we got within sight of the subjects, they all turned and looked at us at the same exact time. Both the human faction and the dogs simultaneously turned to us. My friend and I could not, at the time, decipher which party was in control, the humans or the dogs? My friend and I decided that this sight was... too much... so we decided to slowly walk away in a backward manner. Having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. 1-Bromo-3-Phenylpropane Reaction Reaction 1 involved a primary alcohol (OH), weak leaving group in the starting material and a reaction with a strong nucleophile (sodium bromide) and a polar protic solvent (sulfuric acid). The reaction was carried out through reflux and the product had a relatively high yield (75%) (Scheme 1). Scheme 1. Substitution of 3 phenyl 1 propanol to form 1 bromo 3 phenylpropane The reaction was determined to be SN2 after careful reading of the data obtained and the procedure followed. Increasing the amount of NaBr used in the reaction did not have an effect on the product yield. The conditions of the reactions were acidic due to the solvent used. The acidic conditions prevent an E2 substitution reaction from occurring. In this reaction, the OH leaving group is replaced with the nucleophile Br. The bromine attacks the first carbon and the OH group leaves in the same step. This is a concerted process or bimolecular substitution mechanism (SN2). The location of the leaving group (primary) also indicates the reaction is SN2. The data obtained from 1H NMR was found to confirm the correct product was formed. The data showed the correct location and coupling of hydrogens in the product. There should be a difference of polarities between the starting material and the product. The product should travel further on the TLC plate than the starting material because the starting material should be more polar than the product. The TLC results confirm the product was less polar than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

International law divided into two parts as private international law and public international; however, general usage of the international law refers to public international law. Through my Fulbright independent research project, I hope to deepen and strengthen knowledge on International law especially on international humaniterian law (IHL) which is also known as law of war. • 6. Review Of Ice Age Ice Age Chapter One The green garbage truck pulled up into a long winding ramp like driveway, the special clamps on his wheels dug into the ice that encased the world in a snowy ice age. At five in the morning this house seemed eerily silent, even for five A.M. The truck driver sighed. He felt sorry for this family. In fact, he d been briefed on them this morning at his office on the 61st floor of The World Building. Mr. Abdallah had been fired yesterday, from his job as a government official on the 98th floor. His income had gone down drastically, and the garbage man, lowly as he was had heard that it was unlikely Mr. Abdallah would ever be hired again. With a heavy heart the young man got out of his truck hooked up the garbage can, flipped it into the trucked and returned it. Shawn Abdallah walked to school as usual. He rode the packed shut elevator to floor 9 as usual. He trudged down the hall to Ms. Sweeney s class as usual. Yet his father s words rang in his ears. You can only go to private school for three months. Then you can go public school for three more, on floor 17. Or you can try public school for nine. Then it s homeschool for you. I m sorry. We just don t have the money anymore. Shawn plunked himself down in his seat and let out a long sigh. He didn t know how he would make it through the day without someone teasing him too much about his father losing his job. Just two days ago, police had stormed through his house, taking Shawn s parent s turban and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Social Control Theory Social Control Theory There are many things in today s society that unknowingly control our actions and behaviors. Bonds that exist with our surroundings have a profound effect on how we live our lives. Since the 1900 s conformity has been the focus of every society here on Earth. If people are given an idea about what is right or wrong and the outcomes for each decision are clearly shown; the chance for deviance is greatly lessened. This summary will contain history of the social control theoryand how its ideas and beliefs have evolved today. The earliest known definition of the social control theory was taken from E.A. Ross, a sociologist from the 1900 s. He believed that the things people believed in made them conform to their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The things people choose to believe make them who they are. There are negative beliefs and positive ones. Everyone has them, most are brought up to believe a certain way or practice a certain type of religion. Families pass down beliefs and ways of life from generation to generation. Different races believe in different things, many religious but others exist too. When people believe in the system its government provides they give back to it, and respect it. However, what some people believe in conflict with the beliefs of others, and when two different types of beliefs clash the result can be ugly. The bond between people and their society lessen when they don t believe in what it stands for. Demonstrators for abortion or war are perfect examples of the beliefs people have and how they choose to express their emotions physically. The containment theory states that every person has an exterior structure and a protected interior structure. Both of these different types of structures are used as a buffer for delinquency. Examples of a person s exterior structure could be belonging to a group of people, the opportunity to gain a certain type of status within society, or a set of limitations or responsibilities. Internal construction can be capitalized on by having a general positive outlook on life, believing in ones self, and a good conscience. When these different constructs weaken in a person the chance for deviant acts increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Youth Marketing After a moving target by Jo Bowman 5 Nov 04, 08:49 Asia s youth may be a moving target but targeted traditional media, from print to radio, can still work Parents used to bemoan the fact that their kids were constantly glued to the set; now they despair that young people don t seem to focus on anything for more than a few minutes. Sure, they re still watching TV, but no longer are they couch potatoes, absorbing everything that flashes across the screen; they re flicking channels, flicking through a magazine, texting their friends or moving to a PC a growing culture of impatience that began with the remote control and is now seen to an extreme degree in the region s young. In India, the TV line up for younger children has grown this year, with the launch of Cartoon Network s sister channel Pogo, with programming ranging from Barney Friends for pre schoolers, up to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone and the animated Mr Bean series for older children. While in Thailand, Virgin Radio Asia has just launched two new radio stations aimed at young listeners. Stations in the northern university city, Chiang Mai, and on the holiday island of Ko Samui, are in addition to the four stations Virgin has launched in Bangkok since entering the Thai market two years ago. Content for Chiang Mai will be based on the Bangkok station Virgin Hitz, with a focus on top 40 popular music, and on Ko Samui will broadcast easy listening music to help listeners kick back in tropical paradise , Virgin says. Radio technology predates TV, and is well behind the days of MMS and video streaming, but its affordability and portability makes it a good choice if not necessarily a favourite for youth marketers. Radio is huge for this market, says Ian Stewart, CEO of youth brand specialist marketers The Filter Group. We re big supporters of radio because the fact is young people are at home doing their studying, there s only one TV in the house and that s being watched by everybody else, so they put the radio on. • 9. Academic Characteristics Of Hip Hop Culture The purpose of this paper is to explore the major characteristics of hip hop studies, how they have evolved over the years, and how hip hop can be used to teach others. To begin, a great summary of the major characteristics of hip hop studies is The Kaledioscope of Writing on Hip Hop Culture by Gail Hilson Woldu. For instance, in his book Woldu discusses the academic characteristic of hip hop studies (Woldu, 10). The author gives several examples of major works that have come from academic writing. He also goes into great detail about what they each focus on. For example, Woldu mentions Black Noise from author Tricia Rose as being a book that falls into the academic characteristic of hip hop studies (Woldu, 13). Woldu states, .... this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, these are simply a few the many examples provided by Woldu. All of these examples go to show that the journals are a major characteristic. Finally, the last major characteristic of hip hop studies that Woldu discusses is what he calls the devotees (Woldu, 30). Woldu states, All are clearly more than devotees in the sense that they are far more than fans or hip hop groupies (Would, 30). Examples that he provides are, for instance, Bill Adler (Woldu, 30). Woldu states, Bill Adler, a former rap publicist...wrote a biography of rappers Run DMC (woldu, 31). Another example is Nelson George. According to Woldu, the recipient of two ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards and an American Book Award, George is the author of eight nonfiction books on African Americanculture... (Woldu, 31). Again, these examples go to show that this is a major characteristic of hip hop studies. Aside from simply looking at the major characteristics, one can also examine the ways in which they have evolved. For instance, one can dive into the evolution of the academic characteristic. One major way in which these characteristics have evolved is simply by the topics they cover. When looking at what was commonly talked about back in the early days of hip hop, and then compare it to the topics discussed today one will notice a difference. That main difference being that the topics are very thoughtful and look for deeper meaning. Furthermore, there is always room for more areas of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Taking a Look at Celiac Disease The digestive tract is a group of tubes that extend from the mouth to the anus. Digestive diseases range from the occasional upset stomach to the more life threatening cancers and infections within the liver, the gallbladder, and the pancreas. Most digestive diseases are prevalent in the elderly. Intestinal infections such as gastroenteritis and appendicitis are higher in among infants and children. Other diseases like hemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic liver disease, occur more commonly among teenagers and middle aged adults. The celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the lining of the small intestine and an abnormal immune reaction to gluten. Celiac disease is a genetic disease. The disease does not always immediately happen; sometimes it has to be triggered. Some things that can trigger this disease or make it become active are childbirth, pregnancy, heavy emotional stress, a viral infection, and even after surgery. The damage of the intestine makes it difficult for the absorption of nutrients from food such as fat, calcium, iron and folate. Those with this disease cannot intake gluten which is found in wheat, rye, and barely. When people with the celiac disease eat foods or use products that contain gluten, their immune system responds by destroying the villi, finger like projections of the mucous membrane lining the small intestine. Villi are what allow the nutrients from foods we intake to be absorbed into the walls of the small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Feminist Perspective On Pornography Many people have argued that pornography is a form of artistic expression, protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution, others feel there is a distinct line between art and porn (Pornogrpahy). Pornography is made to provide sexual pleasure to anyone who hears, sees or reads it, it involves erotic acts. Pornographycould be talking, acting, or anything that may sexually stimulate someone. Pornography is also, the portrayal of sexual activities and it comes in the form of magazines, movies, videos, and more. Pornography is often seen to overstep the bounds of the First Amendment and misrepresent what is means by freedom of speech. Pornography isn t something that everyone can agree on. For example, feminist are one group of people have a variety of feelings and beliefs towards pornography. While feminist usually share the same way of thinking this is one topic that causes a major division between them. Disagreeing to agree is a common compromise that people face in life, but in the case of pornography feminist can not seem to do so. Andrea Dworkinand Catharine A. Mackinnon(Feminist Perspectives), are just two of the women that have stood up against pornography. There are a plethora of feminist see pornography as a way to keep women oppressed and subjected to man. Almost as if porn is taking women in a step backwards.Mackinnon believes porn is an act of sexual violence (McElroy) and Dworkin sees it as sexist and a deliberate means of subordinating women to men (Feminist Perspectives). Dworkin and Mackinnon collectively view pornography as not a form of speech, but as an active discrimination and violence against women (Feminist Perspectives). Popular pornography includes abusive scenes and language that is extremely derogatory towards women. Through research it is also believed that due to the acts of violence and sexual abuse depicted in pornography it is causing men to reenact and bring what they ve watched to life (Purcell). Consequently, due to the voices of the anti porn feminist there has been many legal actions taken against the porn industry. There has been several ordinances drawn up, a few were done by Catharine A. Mackinnon. Mackinnon and Dworkin had a civil rights ordinance that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If I played a woodwind instrument, I would have to blow in it to make music, but string instruments consist of playing with a bow to make music. After much thought, I decided that the violin was the best instrument due to its beautiful, unique sound, plus the possibilities are never ending. Differences In Twins Compare And Contrast Subash Khanal ENGLISH 1113 @ TR@ 9:30 Mrs. Smith 8th Dec, 2016 Difference in twins and clones From the very beginning of evolution, human beings have been developing themselves rapidly in physical and mental aspects. With every successful evolutionary era, human beings are found to be somewhat alike to their ancestor. Birth of twins is always a matter of great curiosity in world. Many are amazed with this fact of twining. The fact that contrasts offspring s being alike to their ancestor is a genetic carrier called DNA. DNA is a double helical structure that is composed of genetic material called chromosomes. Chromosomes found in human body cells are equal in number in each cell and are formed after the cell division and condensation of DNA (charlotte 3). With growing technology and scientific progress artificial twining called cloning is also made possible. But, Identical twins made from biological parents are incomparable to the clones made from a genetic host. Genetic material called Chromosomes carry genetic material from springs to spring with slight variation. During birth unusual division of chromosome can give birth to twins. Twins can be of two types identical twins and fraternal twins. Identical twins look alike but fraternal twins do not. Twining is a biological process. There is another artificial process of making twins that is cloning, which results same as twining. Usually by definition, clones are living organism that has placed themselves in a different ... There has been a general consensus that the overuse of electronic devices must impair the language ability. Being ignorant to any of the aspects can lead to a false representation of the project, and hence an uninformed decision being passed. In order for a business to survive it must grow. For growth to be optimal, management must first be able to identify the most attractive prospective leads. After sifting through the leads and finding the right ones to investigate management must formulate an international marketing plan. This further helps management in locating potential markets for their products. The first step is to use secondary research to find out what the sales potential is in a given market. Asking the questions of need, demand, and support gives one a starting point for research. If we were a company that sold pants we might want to ask the following questions. Is there a need for pants? Is it cold enough there to wear pants? Do people that demand the pants have money? These are the questions that one should ask of potential markets. Table 1 located at the end of the paper shows the statistics that are needed for a general market picture. After gathering the information from the secondary research, the picture of a potential market becomes more evident. However, to make the picture clearer, one must conduct primary research. Critically evaluate the arguments of Athanasius and Arius at the Council of Nicaea The Patristic Era saw various controversies arising over the nature of Jesus Christ, which consequently lead to the establishment of the creed as an attempt to reject the heretical views held by proponents. An example of a heretical advocate is Arius, who suggested Christ was inferior to God, but still above other creatures (McGrath, 2001, p.358). However, early orthodox theologians disputed this idea due to the soteriological complications that accompanied it (Young, 2010, p.55). The central advocator of this dispute was Athanasius, who questioned how Arius belief allowed for salvation through Jesus Christ, which is a key orthodox belief identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This heretical view is further fought against through Athanasius extensive focus on Jesus death and the implications that this had on humanity as told by the Bible (Young, 2010, p.55); Romans (10:9) explicitly states Jesus is the Lord and the only route to salvation. So it can be argued, if Jesus is not God, as Arius suggests, then it is not possible for humanity to reach salvation, which results in diminishment of the purpose of Christian faith. Thus, it is acceptable to assume that the Nicene Creed s assertion of the homoousious relationship of God and Jesus, as a rejection of Arianism, was essential to early Christian theology because it provided certainty for the establishment of the faith. Although the consubstantial nature of Jesus and God was confirmed at Nicaea, it wasn t definitively defined because Arians responded with another heretical view: Jesus and God were homoiousious. The belief that God and Jesus were only similar in nature allowed for subordinationism to manifest, which was a heresy that asserted God the Father was superior to Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Williams, 2001, p.133). So this belief accepts the Trinity but has misinterpreted the orthodox declaration of the idea. Arius told of the unequal glories amongst each distinct being within the Trinity (Williams, 2001, p.102). This theme is based on the idea that female nudity is the most popular convention that promotes the topic of sexuality in art. As well as the idea that a lot can be said and taught about feminism while looking at the tradition of female nudityin different artworks. The social construct of how the different genders (male and female) are portrayed in Modern paintings is another very complex topic that is emphasized in these two pieces. For example, women are given certain expectations and ideas of how they should behave. One thing that is not so prominent in the theme would be how the sexualation of woman could be less than offensive and how at this time it actually was more based on a woman s fertility and maternity than anything. The role of gender and sexuality in modern art is very prominent in paintings that come from Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso. However, Cezanne returned to the traditional way of sexualizing nude female figures, while Picasso put his own twist on the subject matter. Paul Cezanne touched on this topic in his 1906 oil painting The Large Bathers. This piece influenced many Modern Artists, especially Pablo Picasso. He could have absorbed so much more knowledge and been much happier in his childhood if he truly connected with his father, because his father had so many experiences and perspectives of his own which could have been shared with his son. The father son relationship is a very important base of learning, for the son, about his environment, and since young Baldwin separated himself from his father, he lost that chance. Although Baldwin did not really get to know his father, he began to look back on his life and realize that his father wanted only the best for him. His father would gloat with pride about how wonderful a preacher Baldwin was, during the short time that he was a preacher. James Baldwin could remember his father actually was ?grinning with pleasure? after his sermons, as opposed to the continuous look of disgust and hatred that he was used to as he was growing up (79). Instead of working off of the happier times that he had with his father, Baldwin ignored those times and focused on the many times where tensions occurred. • 33. Salem Witch Trials Essay The Salem Witch Trials was a very dark period in our history that occurred in the colony of Salem, Massachusetts. These trials began in February 1692 and ended in May of 1693. There were over two hundred individuals who were accused of practicing witchcraft. Of those two hundred accused, nearly twenty innocent souls were lost. This was one of the most severe cases of mass hysteria in recorded history. There was a great effort exhorted by the Massachusetts General Court to declare a guilty verdict, that the framers of the United States Constitution went to great lengths to never let this type of tragedy occur again; commonly known as the eighth amendment. Partly due to fear and also not being able to diagnose these fits, members of the community suspected witchcraft to be the culprit. The Salem Witch Trials officially began in February 1692 when the afflicted girls accused Tituba, Ms. Good and Ms. Osborne of witchcraft. Tituba confessed to witchcraft. Not only did she confess, she also said there were many others who were working for Satan. This triggered the beginning and that is when the fears of the Salem colonists were realized. These girls did not all show symptoms at one time. The first girl to start experiencing symptoms was Betty Parris. She was followed by Abigail Williams, Ann Putnam Jr., Mary Walcott and Mercy Lewis (History of Massachusetts). These girls were throwing tantrums, hiding under furniture and contorting to pain. Since panic and fear set in, witchcraft was the easy choice to make. In today s medical science, these girls would have been diagnosed with boredom or epilepsy. Although at the time the cause was unknown, these symptoms were probably brought on from eating rye infected with fungus. The three victims were not the only ones accused. SCADA allows operational team to open, close or adjust equipment parameters to archive maximum efficiency to meet the peak demand. On one hand, some authors believe self driving cars should not be allowed on roads. They believe this revolution in the change of cars will destroy large industries which includes the auto insurance industry, parking industry, and auto aftermarket industry. Theistic Evolution does not separate the ideas of Creation and Evolution, and consider them as contrasting ideas. Instead, Theistic Evolution proposes that God s Creation included Evolution. The problem is that Christians with this belief are accepting Humanistic world views, which contradict and are inconsistent with the Bible and Christian religion. We hypothesized that students who were high in friendliness would also be high in agreeableness, while being low in hostility. We expected a strong correlation with agreeableness, and a slightly strong correlation with hostility. However, when looking at all three traits we found that agreeableness, while being the big umbrella it is, might not fully account for traits underneath it. As well as friendliness and hostility having a stronger negative correlation than we anticipated. Keywords: Friendliness, Hostility, Agreeableness, Personality Friendliness in College age Students In this study we aimed to look at the personality trait of friendliness. Friendliness can be defined as the good nature, amiability of one s personality. In other words: how agreeable and outgoing one is towards others. Friendliness has been found to be more prevalent in females than males (Moskowitz, 1993), and has been found to be generalized across situations. In this research we want to look at college students to see if there is any significance between friendliness and aggressiveness. To do this we have created our own friendliness scale and compared it to the Iowa State Hostility Scale (Dill, Anderson, Anderson, Deuser, 1997) and the agreeableness items from the Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) (Gosling, Augustine, Vazire, Holtzman, Gaddis, 2011). ...
