• Without research, Florence Nightingale wouldn’t have
been able to convince others that sanitation was
important to surviving sepsis
• Purpose of nursing research – to provide empirical
evidence to support nursing practice and help us provide
excellent patient care

E.g. effectiveness of different wound care techniques help nurses choose the most
appropriate interventions for wound healing, leading to better patient outcomes and reduced
complications
2. Patient Safety: Helps identify best practices to prevent errors and adverse
events. Implementation of evidence-based protocols based on such
research findings reduces the risk of harm to patients
e.g. Hand hygiene protocols or medication administration procedures
