Riverboat Gambling
The crisp slicing of cards, shimmering dresses, sharp suits, dealers shouting, clouds of smoke from
cigarettes, and coins spitting out from glowing slot machines is the modern day gambling that we
know today. Thinking of gambling in America has always brought attention to prospering cities like
Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Gambling unfortunately has created a dark subculture that surrounds
gaming such as: crime, prostitution, and loansharking. An evolution of security and the disappearance
of the mob have made gaming safer for the family since the mid 19th century. These two cities have
defined what society knows of gambling in America. They draw million of tourist and have ... Show

Although the financial backers of the colonies saw gambling as a source of the colonial problems, they
began to see it as a solution as well. Once the lottery exposed its untapped potential profits it soon
became a civic responsibility. This new resource became heavily relied upon and brought good
reciprocity to the community. During colonial period, before the American Revolution, the lottery was
used to back some of the most prestigious universities such as: Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth,
and Princeton, it also was used to build churches, and libraries (Truitt, 1996). After the revolution the
frontier lifestyle began to take full effect. With Americans having a spiritual drive to move west and
make their fortunes, gambling shared similar foundations: a spirit of adventure, opportunity, and risk
taking. Riverboat gambling was soon to take form after this introduction to gambling in early colonial
times.
The first appearance of riverboat gambling began in the early 1800 s. The lower Mississippi Valley
became a legitimate and organized enterprise. The Mississippi River and connected waterways were
major avenues of trade and farmers and merchants and the riverboats carried passengers who had lots
of cash (Clotfelter Cook). This line of travel consistently transported merchants and farmers leaving
them vulnerable to the temptation taking risks with their newfound money.
The golden age for riverboat gambling occurred during 1840 1860. During

Concerns of Bioterrorism
Issues/ Concerns of Bioterrorism US/Guam
What is Bioterrorism? What are the types of Bioterrorism? What issues or concerns should we be
aware of when talking about Bioterrorism? How is Bioterrorism different from the United States and
that of Guam? These are some of the things people would think of and wonder when they hear the
word Bioterrorism. It s important to know the different steps or precautions that a person can look into
in order to prevent themselves from being a victim of Bioterrorism. First things first, Bioterrorism is
defined as the intentional release of toxic biological agents to harm and terrorize civilians, in the name
of a political or other cause. The history of Bioterrorism goes way back. According to the Terrorism
Issues and Homeland Security, there have always been efforts to use germs and disease as weapons.
The reported risk has led the U.S. government to expend immense resources for bio defense in the
early part of the 21st century. According to Right Diagnosis from health grades, there was a list of the
different types of Bioterrorism and they are: Anthrax, Salmonella, Glanders, Melioidosis, and
Smallpox.
Anthrax is an acute infectious disease caused by the spore forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis. This
disease mostly occurs in wild and domestic animals such as: antelopes, camels, cattle, goats, sheep,
and other herbivores, but can occur in human if they get in contact with the infected animal. Anthrax
spores are a form of bacteria that can

The World Is Too Much With Us Annotation
For this discussion, I would like to look at The World Is Too Much with Us by William Wordsworth. I
think that this poem fits the Italian sonnet category. To support this claim, the first 8 lines (octave)
present a problem. Also, the first 8 lines follow the abbaabba form. The first line ends with the word
soon (a), the second line ends with the word powers (b), the third line ends with the word ours (b), and
the fourth line ends with the word boon (a). This same scheme continues throughout the next 5 lines as
well. Because of this rhyming scheme, I believe it is an Italian Sonnet. One thing I really liked about
this poem was the title. I read it and thought that it sounded funny because I would think that it would

Why Teenagers Use The Mobile Phone While Driving Essay
Question 1 What are the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone while driving? Introduction
Mobile phones play a significant part in people s life. It is more than a tool. This essay will firstly
discuss the growing users of mobile phones. Following this, it will discuss the relations between
mobile phones and driving. Finally, it will look at the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone
while driving. Table 1: Collision claim frequencies for new vehicles by month Source from: Laws

of mobile phones, more and more people like to use mobile phones even get addicted to mobile
phones. They use mobile phones anywhere especially for the teenagers. It seems that mobile phones
become a basic necessity of life. Relations between mobile phones and driving Using mobile phones
while driving has a bad effect on drivers. This is not only related to the drivers safety, but also related
to the road safety (Healey, 2015). The findings show the short term effect of a teenage driver cell
phone restriction. Even though the law took effect, it has little effect on teenage drivers use of cell
phones (Foss et al 2009). However, under this situation, there are lots of teenagers like to use the
mobile phone while driving. One of the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone while driving is

Behavioral Feeding And Eating Disorders
Introduction
Behavioral feeding and Eating Disorder in infants and children has a huge impact in our society. It has
a broad spectrum, ranking from mild issues that do not involve major health related threats
complications for severe issues, such as underfeeding and the need for enteral feeding. Because of a
high popularity and the prompt detection, effects, types, environmentally factors, and treatment
options of pediatric and non pediatric behavioral feeding and eating disorders can be prevented.
Definition
For better understanding of what behavioral feeding and Eating Disorders are, we must first have a
clear view and some knowledge of difference between organic and nonorganic etiologies1 Organic
etiologies are usually essential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prevalence
Feeding and eating disorders seem to spread throughout different types. For instance, the majority of
individuals with intellectual disabilities display behavioral feeding and eating disorder problems, and
proximately 70% of children who suffer from autism seem to have very selective eating habits3. 15%
of children that have Gastreophageal reflux have feeding disorders and can even have food refusal4.
Another interesting finding is that in 45% of children feeding disorder has been estimated to occur.
Because of a high percentage, it is recommended that speech language pathologists are fully aware.
Effects
When any person consumes an exaggerated amount of food, it may follow with bad consequences.
The effect may consist of weight loss, malnutrition, weariness, mental impairment, and even death
and/or physical development. It has been proven that malnutrition and dehydration can be caused by
dysfunctional parent child mealtime. In severe cases, the need of medical doctors is necessary and an
enteral feeding tube has to be placed via nasogastric or gastronomy.
Just because a feeding tube is placed into the person and there are improvements, medical procedures
by themselves do not treat the behavioral aspect of the disorder. Extended

The Necessity Of Radical Reconstruction After The Civil War
The necessity of Radical Reconstruction After the Civil War had ended a period of reconstruction was
in mind, but failed to succeed. President Andrew Johnson s principle was that the South never had a
right to succeed. He also believed that blacks should not have any role in the reconstruction. Johnson
appointed provisional governors and ordered them to call state conventions to establish new, all white
government. Radical Republicans believed that people of all skin color had the right to be equal. In
their opinion, blacks should have the same political opportunities as well as rights as whites. They
wanted to see the powers of national government expanded since they believed the war was fought for
equal rights. A Civil Rights Bill was passed on in 1966 which stated That all persons born in the

Example Of Holistic Care
Holistic Care is seen as the way in which the patient is cared for as a whole by looking not just at their
physical or medical needs but also at their spiritual, psychological and social needs while in the
clinical setting (Johns C. 2012, Rushton L. 2014). One of the main outcomes for holistic care is
patients receiving the best standard of care and also patient satisfaction in their care. This is due to the
patient being cared for in a way that doesn t just look at their disease and uses person centered care
instead of the traditional medical model of nursing (McGeorge N. 2010). In order to adequately care
for the patients that we see in clinical settings we must look at them holistically and not care for them
solely using the medical model of nursing. Holistic care is especially important for patients who are
under going surgery, like this patient who was getting a short gamma nail placed in her femur, as it
helps to promote healing post operatively by encouraging compliance with the care they need. It also
helps to reduce the anxiety felt by the patient as they feel they are not being ignored by the staff
looking after them (Selimen D. 2011). I am going to reflect upon this entry using The Reflective Cycle

The physical symptoms of a patient are often the only ones that are constantly looked at as patient care
is prioritised by level of urgency. This leads to the threat that the patient will become isolated and
lonely (Cassidy I.2006). It is therefore more important to consider those who have these infectious
infections as they are excluded more from the clinical environment to prevent them from spreading

How Religion Shaped Roman Culture
One of the main bases of Roman culture is Religion. In fact, almost everything the Roman citizens did
revolved around beliefs, gods, and goddesses. Not only was their way of living affected by religion
but the progression of advancement in infrastructure and early forms of technology were as well. By
examining Roman baths and temples, defixiones, and Romanization of the provinces of the empire it
is clear that religion helped to shape Roman advancements in infrastructure and early forms of
technology during this time. Aquae Sulis and its baths are a perfect example of how religion affected
Roman life and culture. Romans took mineral springs of hot water, declared them sacred, and
transformed them into huge public baths and temples for worship. For the Romans believed that
emerging one s self into the hot water would bring healing from the goddess Sulis. Without religious
beliefs their desire for elaborate worship centers would not exist. As a result, the advanced and
fascinating Roman structures found in the city of Aquae Sulis may not have been built either. ... Show

The Romans often looked to the gods as possible allies during the difficult times and sought to reach
out to them in any way they could. Defixiones, or curse tablets, are simply one example. When
struggling with life or usually a vendetta against another citizen, the Romans often wrote curses on
sheets of lead or pewter dedicated to a specific god or goddess and often threw it into the spring at
Aquae Sulis. This is a fantastic example of the Roman s ability to find, create, and produce new means
of expressing their religious culture and

Frank Tannenbaum s Theory Of The Labeling Theory
Once a person is labelled as a deviant, it is hard to remove that label. The Labeling Theory basically
says that no behavior is deeply rooted on its own. It is society s reaction to the behavior that makes the
act deviant or not. Labeling is to give someone or something to a category and is usually given
mistakenly. The people who usually doing the labeling have statues, numbers, power and authority.
People with low status, power and authority are the ones that are being labeled. Dramatization of evil
was the concept brought forward by Frank Tannenbaum, a big Labelling Theory theorist. He only
presented his development of the Labeling Theory in reply of his work with juveniles partaking in
street gang activities. He thought of the labelling theory as the process of digging, tagging, identifying,
segregating, describing, emphasizing, making conscious and self conscious... (Hagan, 2017, p. 162).
Tannenbaum believes that this theory can change a person s identity from a doer of evil to an actual
evil person evil person. BECKER Edwin Lemert was another big theorist of the Labeling Theory. He
had studied check forgers to bring him to his conclusion about the Labeling Theory. From his check
forging study, Lemert concluded that the forger s criminal career had only begun after they were
labelled a criminal (Knutsson, 1978). Lemert made the distinction between primary and secondary
deviance. Émile Durkheim said that deviance is normal and it is important to society. Durkheim had

What Are The Stereotypes In The Young Victoria
As a movie lover I m always fascinated by a good movie plot and I try to watch them at any chance I
get, therefore, I ve chosen a movie called The Young Victoria.
Victoria was a young queen of the united kingdom where she was ascended to the throne on her 18th
birthday after her uncle s death, King William IV. She didn t have a normal childhood like the others,
forced to live under rules by her possessive mother and her wicked consort, Conroy which they called
them Kensington system. Consort Conroy and her mother, tried to force her to sign an agreement that
would make her mother Regent until Victoria reached the age of 25. Despite the pressure and she
remain strong and persistent to rule the kingdom. She the meets her German cousin Albert, a Saxon
Prince and they fall in love with each other and eventually marry. Finally, Albert proves that he s not
only a devoted husband but, an important agent in her life.

And I think it s great that the united kingdom is one of the countries that has a queen to rule them and
that there s an equality between both gender. Regardless of that, she was sometimes pitted, treated
differently, and people made decisions for her because she was a woman which she despited. Also
Victoria hated the idea of Albert coming to her protection because he thought of her as a woman
which implies that she is weak and vulnerable, also, she thinks that behaving and being treated as a
woman Is an insult. I personally found her statement really interesting because while she is a woman
herself, she wants to be treated like a man because she was ruling a country which is usually a role

direct violation of the University Of Phoenix Code Of Conduct/Code of Academic Integrity. B. Martin
sums it up nicely in the Journal of Information Ethics: plagiarism is much more common among both
students and scholars than usually recognized and it is a serious offense against scholarships and

How do you catch a cheating student participating in an online environment? As defined in the

without physically interfacing with the student, how does a teacher ensure a student is turning in

information is rampant and often unchecked for credibility. In the same instance, it is a Mecca of

Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Research Paper
Stone Man Syndrome: What is Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP)?
Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a very rare genetic disorder of the connective tissues.
FOP is also referred to as Stone Man Syndrome, the disorder makes muscle tissue and ligaments
harden and form into bone tissue that develops outside the normal skeleton. Fibrodysplasia ossificans
progressiva is normally noticed during early childhood, it generally begins with the neck and
shoulders, gradually working its way down the body and the limbs.

FOP is not curable and because the disease is so rare, treating it can be very challenging for
physicians. FOP bone cannot be disturbed because it can result in making the disease much worse. If a
doctor were to attempt surgical removal of the FOP bone tissue, it would cause a flare up of the
condition and result in the bone growing back and possibly making even more bone than before.
Doctors generally use medications to treat the symptoms of FOP. Because there are not many cases of
FOP, it is hard to gather a group large enough to host research trials to study the disease. The most
common medications used to treat the symptoms of FOP include:
Aminobiphosphates: This type of drug suppresses the formation of blood vessels, which is what bone
tissue requires for growth. Aminobiphosphates also limit bone resorption through shortening the life
span of osteoclasts.
Corticosteroids: The use of corticosteroids like prednisone during a flare up can help decrease
inflammation and swelling, thus shortening the duration of the inflammatory process.
Thalidomide: Thalidomide is an anti angiogenic drug which helps to limit the immune system
response and function during an FOP

Death in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Essay
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening A Stop for Death
Everyone feels burdened by life at some point. Everyone wishes they could just close their eyes and
make all the problems and struggles of life disappear. Some see death as a release from the chains and
ropes with which the trials and tribulations of life bind the human race. Death is a powerful theme in
literature, symbolized in a plethora of ways. In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eve Robert Frost uses
subtle imagery, symbolism, rhythm and rhyme to invoke the yearning for death that the weary traveler
of life feels.

Winter is a time of cold, when forests die and animals hide from the shrieking winds and biting cold.
Winter is a time for survival against the odds. How apt that the speaker is struggling against the lovely,
dark and deep woods to remember that he has miles to go before [he] sleep[s]. The easy wind calls to
him, and the downy flake beckons him to a comfortable sleep. If the speaker had paused on a bright
summer day, the sleep might be just a short rest, but the poem is set on the darkest evening of the year
while the woods fill up with snow, and any rest taken in the lovely, dark and deep woods would result
in the eternal sleep of death (474).
Sleep is another common symbol for death, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is filled with
the essence of sleep. Every element of the poem works together to create a lullaby effect, calling the
speaker and reader to a lovely, dark and deep sleep (474). The gentle imagery of the downy soft snow
and easy wind, combined with the cadence and meter of the poem creates a lulling, rocking, soothing
effect. The AABB rhyme scheme and the iambic quatrameter create a lullaby feeling, easing the
reader in to a comfortable sleep.
The last two lines act as a slap in the face. Every element works toward death, and the speaker almost
slips into eternal rest. One can see him, putting the

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) growth has meant new opportunities for Canadian
suppliers and has helped create new jobs across Canada. For example to support the launch of the first
Lexus built outside Japan, there have been new suppliers, built plants in communities as well as the
expansion of the suppliers base already there before TMMC moved into Canada. Additionally because
of the lower Canadian dollar compared to the US Dollar, Canadian plants have shown two areas of
high performance, which are quality and high productivity with the third point being cost
competiveness in the corporate income tax rate.
Additionally flexibility, which is very important to Toyota?s Total Production (TPS), does not change
volume by changing of plant layout but increases flexibility in overtime working and general
manpower. This flexibility gives employees the ability to work about 48 hours a week if needed to
meet demands of customers, (Smith, 2005).

Health In Jane Eyre Essay
In the novel Jane Eyre, Mr. Brocklehurst famously says Naturally! Yes, but we are not to conform to
nature (Brontë 78); it echoes the spiritual belief that the desires of the mortal flesh must be sacrificed
to cleanse the soul. The statement has played an important part in 19th century literature and their
focus on the role of the soul and its equation with the physical body. Many writers of the time have
brought the concept of nutrition and starvation into their works; they put the characters through the
consequences of being nourished or starved and bring the relationship between physical health and
spirituality into question. In face, the direct references to food and being fed has an important role in
19th century literature. When analyzing these situations, the nourishment of the body and the healing
of the soul do not appear to be separate. Tn fact, what happens to the body directly impacts the state of
the soul; both the presence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she (Jane) looks up to. In Gateshead, Bessie is the one person who sympathises with Jane, sings her

that had not felt acceptance from her blood relations. While food provides comfort to the body and
soul, the provider of the food becomes the mother like/god like figure of the situation. Food and those
associated with serving food to the physically starved become the saviours ; the figures that most
religious people aspire to be. Thus, food and the nourishment that it provides is connected to several
other religious concepts like god s grace, spiritual kindness and happiness. This indicates that the

Through apartheid, the Nationalist Party of South Africa had forced millions of people to leave their
homes because they were colored. In the text, it says, The National Party passed and enforced laws
that kept white and black South Africans separated and benefited whites while stripping non whites of
their rights (Doc 5). This quote explains that the National Party had consciously made a decision to be
discriminative against blacks and appraise whites. Another basic right of all humans is that everyone is
equal and everyone, no matter their race, should be treated the same. The National Party is clearly not
honoring this right even in the 20th century. Another example is found when in the text, it says, From
1960 to 1983, the apartheid government forcibly moved 3.5 million black South Africans in one of the
largest mass removals of people in modern history (Doc 5). This illustrates the apartheid system in
action. Millions of people are being pushed out of their rightful homes because and only because of
the color of their skin. Without a doubt, the National Party is not for this fundamental right of equality.
On the bright side however, even more recently, the apartheid system has been done away with. It can
now be said that just about every modern society is free of racism and discrimination, at least legally

Air Pollution in California
Air Pollution in California In the 1940 s California was supporting a population of seven million
people and contained 2.8 million registered vehicles. Within the next twenty years the population
more than doubled to reach 16 million while the number of registered vehicles all but tripled
increasing to eight million. This has been a common trend in California s documented history from the
early twentieth century to today. There have been many historical and environmental factors that have
assisted in contributing to increases such as these in California. One such factor was World War II,
from the late 1930 s to 1945, which triggered a boom in the population of California and the beginning
of the urban sprawl. Increases in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one hour Ozone standard has a limit of 0.12 ppm, which means that an Ozone monitoring site
which takes a reading greater than 0.12 ppm of Ozone would be in violation of the one hour standard.
According to the EPA there has not been a violation of the one hour Ozone standard for a number of
years and the amount of chemical pollutants present in the air in California is on the decline (Thomas
Addison BAAQMD). Although most of the United States is lacking in affordable and convenient
public transportation the San Francisco Bay Area offers many different forms of public transportation.
The Bay Area is home to one of the more widely known public transportation systems within
California called the Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART. BART is a multi car electric rail powered
system which travels from the northeast bay to the southeast bay and connects the east bay and
Oakland with San Francisco. One downfall to the system lies in transportation to and from a desired
BART station. The east bay area contains a bus system called the County Connection, which runs
constantly to and from the local BART stations and most residential areas, shopping and business
centers. With a little patience one can get pretty much anywhere in the east bay area using BART and
the County Connection busses. A common benefit of BART lies in its convenience in heavily
trafficked areas and/or during daily commutes and rush hours. BART offers a premier form of

Judith And Holofernes By Artemisia Gentileschi
Throughout the years artists have chosen to portray the same event in the forms of paintings or
sculptures, but often, due to the time period and views or values of the artist the interpretations differ
and the final products are vastly different. Two primary examples of this are Caravaggio and
Gentileschi who are both renowned artists of the Baroque era and style, which encompasses the
intensity of the colors, as well as the brutal subject matter that it entails.
Figures 17.9 Judith and Holofernes (c. 1598), by Caravaggio and figure 17.10 Judith Decapitating
Holofernes (c. 1620) by Artemisia Gentileschi both illustrate the same biblical story of Judith seducing
Holofernes and decapitating him to free the people of his oppressive rule. Caravaggio and Gentileschi
pick the precise moment of the decapitation and capture it with brutal realism. These pieces when
glanced at have a similar resemblance, but when one looks more deeply their differences are put on
display. The most apparent and most important difference that changes these pieces entirely is the way
the two artists choose to depict the nature of Judith. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Judith takes ahold of Holofernes head and begins to slice but her expression is one of uncertainty and
repulsiveness as she is standing away from the body. The maid stands besides her anxiously awaiting
for the act to be completed. In Caravaggio painting Judith is portrayed as young and beautiful as well
as more fragile and timid. Caravaggio uses an amplified chiaroscuro called tenebrism. In his painting
there is a dramatic contrast between a somewhat toned down light and an intense dark. In his painting
the darker shades are concentrated on Holofernes and the maid. The light is casted upon Judith, which
may be more of a use of symbolism of the heroines and virtue of a young and beautiful

Sarbanes-Oxley and the Pcaob
The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) was a direct output of the financial statement fraud that sank
industry giants such as Enron and Worldcom.
1. What are the primary goals and tenets of SOX with respect to fraud?
The goals of the Sarbanes Oxley Act are expansive, including the improvement of the quality of audits
in an attempt to eliminate fraud in order to protect the public s interest, as well as for the protection of
the investors (Donaldson, 2003). Prior to the implementation of SOX auditors were self regulated with
consumers reliant on their honesty and integrity. However, the auditing profession failed at self
regulation, thus necessitating the implementation of a security measure that would protect the

A study conducted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) surveyed 959 cases of
reported occupational fraud between 2006 and 2008. The report broke fraud into three categories:
fraudulent statements, asset misappropriation, and corruption. Ninety nine of the 959 cases reported
financial statement fraud with a median loss of two million dollars, making it the most costly of the
fraud categories. In general, the study found that publicly traded companies that had implemented
SOX controls reported fewer losses (70 to 96 percent) than those who had not implemented SOX
controls. These results imply that implementation of SOX controls are directly related to a reduction
in theft and other fraudulent behaviors. Surprisingly, it was noticed that in companies where
management must certify the financial statements, fraud took approximately three months longer to
detect than in those companies where management was not required to certify the financial statements.
However, due to the complexity and relative newness of SOX and the complexity of the businesses
and the ingenuity of people, it is not surprising that SOX has not been a booming success. Hopefully,
over time, all the wrinkles will be ironed out allowing for deterrence or immediate detection to be
attainable. (Rappeport,

We Are A Camera, By Nick Paumgarten
Although a memory may deteriorate over the span of years or even decades, a photograph will last a
lifetime. Images are more than an object to have for safe keeping. In his article, We Are A Camera,
Nick Paumgarten discusses the uprising of the popular recording device known as the GoPro. This
device is used to record events and experiences from different perspectives, whether that is from
underwater or zip lining through a forest in a first person view. Moreover, videos and photography
allow people to capture images to reminisce about past experiences, to share these moments with
others, and even remember those whom you have lost. There are countless debates about how
distracting cell phones and other electronic devices can be however, they can still be used in positive
ways, such as capturing images. Images are a way of recalling events or memories. Certainly, with
these images a person would depict a picture far more vividly than what they could have conjured up
by simply trying to remember the moment. After going through a great experience, people tend to
want to reflect and rejoice at what they had done or gone through. The most memorable moment of
my past would have to be my seventh birthday party. It was a small surprise in the middle of a park in
Fort Lauderdale on a scorching hot day. I recall playing soccer on the grassy plains, receiving gifts and
the abundance of laughter in the air. The only problem is, I only remember vague images in my mind
that I pieced

The Process Of Performance Management
2.4. The process of Performance Management 2.4.1. Defining the process 2.4.2.Strategic Planning The
starting point for performance management falls into strategic planning. It is the stage that defines the
strategic objectives and priorities on which the organisation should concentrate. They set out the
activities on which the organisation should focus, and formulate the basis for creating more specific
targets (the strategic objectives). The mission and strategic objectives of the organisation should be the
ones that can be agreed not only by the individual members of the organisation, but also by the
customers of the organisation. It would be best if the representatives of the public participated in the
process of setting objectives and targets, but it seems that normally ministers responsible to Parliament
play a significant role in the process of setting objectives and targets. The missions and strategic
objectives should reflect the core value of what the organisation pursues by considering all the
activities and functions of the organisation. As found in the cases of many countries, neither
Parliament nor the National Assembly intervenes in defining the missions and strategic objectives,
whilst they usually do intervene in the evaluation of performance. They should be able to show the
outcomes, which will eventually come true by the expenditure from the taxpayers money. The
organisational mission is not changed frequently, unless there is a significant change

four years spent earning my degree, was truly gratifying. All of the hard work and sacrifice culminated
into one of the proudest moments of my life and it made me reflect on how much I learned, not only
as a student, but about myself as an individual. Being in a position to share that moment with my

The strength of the team includes the gifts of each player. Barcelona is entertaining to watch because
they have many good players and if you have good players that makes you one of the best teams in the
world. You may be wondering who exactly are the good players on Barcelona? Some of the past most
powerful players for Barcelona are Neymar Jr. who was a forward and striker and Carles Puyal who
was a defender. For the 2017 2018 season Messi is the top player and had previously played with
those champions. Messi is number 10 and has been on the team since 2003. He is a forward and striker
for the team. Messi grew up in Argentina but plays for Spain and Barcelona. Neymar Jr is one of the
more recent players for Barcelona. He originally played for Brazil then Barcelona but has moved on
again for the 2017 2018 season. His father was Neymar and was a very good player, so Neymar Jr is
following his dad s footsteps. Puyal was in the defense for Barcelona. He was reasonably familiar with
the sport in general, so he always knew what to do. He was probably one of the best defenders on the
team until he recently retired. Barcelona has twenty four amazing players, so I could not name them

Explain how communication affects relationships in the work setting. Communication plays a massive
part once building a relationship in the work setting. By regularly keeping effective communication
between practioners, parents/careers and children makes a positive working environment. The
relationships are mostly based on the type of communication between one another, communication is
not just by verbally but also the body language we show, facial expressions and our gestures.
Communication with children and young people is very important. When a child is new to the setting

Not only do you talk to them but also the child will response, or even approach you first to
communicate; either for a general conversation or to ask a question. All children are different, either it
is by the way they re brought up, their culture, have different beliefs, and in the way they
communicate for example; English is an additional language. If you had a child in the nursery who
had English as a second language, and knew few words, verbally communicating with this child
wouldn t be the first thing you would do. There are loads of different ways to do this for example;
using picture cars with words, not only will this technique help communicate but also help build the
childs English vocabulary. Another being demonstrating, for example; in an activity, lets say gluing
and sticking, show the child what to do by demonstrating the activity for them to then copy your
actions. Communication is very important, not only with the child/ young person but also their
parents/ careers. Parents and careers need to be kept updated with everything that happens with their
child/children and information that they need to know about the nursery itself. The stronger the
relationship between the practioners and the parent/ career the stronger the trust the parents/ careers
have with their child/ children in your care. Information should be shared on a day to day basis
between the practioner and the parent/ career abpout everything that happens in the nursery.

Copper Carbonate Lab Report
The reaction characteristics of basic copper carbonate 〖mCuCO〗_3⋅n〖Cu(OH)〗_2 were
observed by changing the reaction mole ratio. The reaction mole ratio of sodium carbonate to copper

powder. At a reaction ratio of 1.08, paratacamite (Cu_2 Cl(OH)_3 ), beside alkali copper carbonate,
was formed because of incomplete reaction at a copper content of 53.9 wt%. Lack of sodium
carbonate may cause incomplete reaction with copper chloride (II) because of low pH (6.0) of the
solution [12]. The copper content according to the reaction mole ratio were 57.7, 50.5, 58.8, 59.3, and

The malachite basic copper carbonate formed as CuCO3 ⋅ Cu(OH)2 shows bright green, whereas that
of azurite formed as 2CuCO3 ⋅ Cu(OH)2 shows strong blue. In this study, most of the manufactured
copper carbonate was converted to malachite basic copper carbonate of bright green at the reaction
mole ratio of 1.20. In the case of low reaction ratio of sodium carbonate, m, the stoichiometric
coefficients of CuCO3, is higher than n, the stoichiometric coefficient of Cu(OH)2, so that the amount
of CuCO3 is generated is more than that of Cu(OH)2. With increasing reaction mole ratio of sodium
carbonate, m is lower than n so that the generation rate of CuCO_3 is lower than that of Cu〖(OH)〗
_2. Therefore, copper content increased with increasing sodium carbonate. With assumption of same
value of m and n, theoretical copper content becomes 57.5

Purposes of Subscription Library
Following the years of revolution, the eighteenth century was relatively stable and peaceful age.
General improvement of life and urbanisation led to increase in the amount of spare time and money.
The commercialisation of the leisure also made recreational activity more affordable, especially for
the new middle class constituted by professionals. Their new vulnerable status in the society led them
to seek their own culture, such as participation to society activities and enrolment to the subscription
library. Subscription Library was first established in Liverpool in 1758, and it spread across Britain,
growing the number of subscribers along the way. It was essentially a private library, requiring a
payment of a guinea for entry and another ten shillings or so for the annual subscription fee. In turn,
the members were allowed access to the permanent collection of the books. In this essay, I would like
to discuss the possible purposes of the subscription library in the eighteenth century, by studying the
library catalogues and regulations. Firstly the library s role in the associationalism and the polite
culture would be considered. Then I would like to discuss how the library served as a place of forming
a uniformed society, offering useful knowledge and promoting equality. Lastly, its exclusiveness
would be studied. The purpose of the subscription library could be best explained as a part of the
associationalism culture and the desire for the polite society.

Response Essay Ode To Stephen Dowling Dec D
Literary Imagination class allowed me to explore the meaning of books. I m appreciative of the class
because it opened my eyes to reading books. My original opinion about books are that they are
pointless to read and a waste of my time. I could not have been more wrong. Before taking the class I
would not want to read more than a paragraph of any kind of story. During the class, I started reading
the assigned stories and poems. I found that quite a few of them are interesting and I realized reading
books are like watching television without having actors acting out parts, it s left for our imagination. I
can now read and imagine what is going on unlike before. I m unsure why I thought reading books
was worthless when I would watch television which is worse than reading a book in the first place.

Nuclear Weapon Production Of Nuclear Weapons Essay
Nuclear Weapon Production Apocalypse
Hunter Honeycutt
Western Kentucky University Glasgow
Nuclear Weapon Production Apocalypse
If the production of nuclear weaponry is not diminished, it will cause the end of everything. With the
production of nuclear weapons increasing, it will only be a matter of time until a nuclear war breaks
out. When a nuclear weapon is used, it has three killing modes. The first would be the impact, when
the bomb first hits. The second would be the shockwave that extends outward a good deal. Thirdly, the
radiation effect would kill several more after that.
How does a nuclear weapon work you might ask? Well there are two ways a nuclear weapon can
work. One is nuclear fission and the other is nuclear fusion. In nuclear fission, the nucleus of an atom
is split in two by a neutron. To do this, isotopes will need to be present such as uranium (uranium 235,
uranium 233) or plutonium (plutonium 239) (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament). An isotope is the
same element but with different numbers. Nuclear fusion is kind of how the sun works. According to
Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, two small atoms are fused together to create one large atoms.
This typically requires hydrogen or hydrogen isotopes (deuterium, tritium), to form a larger one
(helium isotopes) (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament).
As stated in a previous paragraph, a nuclear weapon will kill on contact. According to a website article
by History.com, the first bomb that was

As stated by Wang et al. (2006, p. 160) ... environmental accidents, complaints, and concerns have
pressured industries to shift from the traditions end of pipe approaches to sound pollution prevention
strategies . Interface are reducing their smoke stacks. End of pipe solutions are no longer accepted as a
means of reducing pollution and remaining sustainable in the 21st Century (Waage 2003, p. 23). This
has resulted in Interface reducing their 292 smoke stacks to 183. This is a 39% reduction in smoke
stacks from their operations. A reduction in smoke stacks equals a reduction in pollutants and waste
entering the earths atmosphere. As stated by Wang et al. (2006, p. 160) Pollution represents a loss in
profits during manufacturing . By Interface reducing their pollution through smoke stack
minimisation, they will see a return in increased profits. Further looking into the aspect of reducing
emissions, Interface has acknowledged that to prevent toxic emissions altogether we must go upstream
and prevent those toxic substances from entering our factories in the first place. What comes in will go
out as a product, waste or emission (Waage 2003, p. 23.). To sum this statement, prevention is better
than cure. By following a process of assessing what products come into a manufacturing process and
either substituting or eliminating pollutant products, the end waste will be minimised. As Interface has
set up a programme to reduce benign emissions they

General Electric Ge 90xe Engines
New Technology Commercial Aviation General Electric GE 90XE Engines In March 2015, GE
Aviation was granted the first FAA certification for a 3 D printed part to be installed in a jet engine.
According to GE Aviation, the part is a T25 housing for a compressor inlet temperature sensor and
will be retrofitted on over 400 of its GE90 94B engines. The part was designed using a CAD program
and a rapid prototype was made of metal alloy using an SLS process. The final design was approved,
the prototype was printed and tested, and the part was certified by the FAA in a 6 month period.
Normally, this process would take several years with traditional manufacturing methods. What is
unique about this part is that it is printed as one integral piece that contains internal cooling structures,
making it less likely to coke (build up carbon during use) and overheat. According to GE Aviation, it
is also 25% lighter and 5 times more durable than the previous compressor inlet temperature sensor
that it is replacing. It is printed as one solid piece while the old part is made of 18 pieces fitted
together (Radis, 2015). What really makes AM technology appealing to manufacturers like GE
Aviation is the ability to design parts without being limited by traditional manufacturing methods. The
CAD computer allows the engineers to design with intent and embed cooling structures or lubrication
joints into a part; which was not previously feasible with traditional manufacturing. Engineers can also

due to the many reasons that lead them to fall. So why do societies fall? Many great societies have

  • 2. Why Gambling Is The Modern Day Gambling Kingsley Forrester 02/27/15 C 100 Paper Riverboat Gambling The crisp slicing of cards, shimmering dresses, sharp suits, dealers shouting, clouds of smoke from cigarettes, and coins spitting out from glowing slot machines is the modern day gambling that we know today. Thinking of gambling in America has always brought attention to prospering cities like Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Gambling unfortunately has created a dark subculture that surrounds gaming such as: crime, prostitution, and loansharking. An evolution of security and the disappearance of the mob have made gaming safer for the family since the mid 19th century. These two cities have defined what society knows of gambling in America. They draw million of tourist and have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the financial backers of the colonies saw gambling as a source of the colonial problems, they began to see it as a solution as well. Once the lottery exposed its untapped potential profits it soon became a civic responsibility. This new resource became heavily relied upon and brought good reciprocity to the community. During colonial period, before the American Revolution, the lottery was used to back some of the most prestigious universities such as: Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Princeton, it also was used to build churches, and libraries (Truitt, 1996). After the revolution the frontier lifestyle began to take full effect. With Americans having a spiritual drive to move west and make their fortunes, gambling shared similar foundations: a spirit of adventure, opportunity, and risk taking. Riverboat gambling was soon to take form after this introduction to gambling in early colonial times. The first appearance of riverboat gambling began in the early 1800 s. The lower Mississippi Valley became a legitimate and organized enterprise. The Mississippi River and connected waterways were major avenues of trade and farmers and merchants and the riverboats carried passengers who had lots of cash (Clotfelter Cook). This line of travel consistently transported merchants and farmers leaving them vulnerable to the temptation taking risks with their newfound money. The golden age for riverboat gambling occurred during 1840 1860. During ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Concerns of Bioterrorism Issues/ Concerns of Bioterrorism US/Guam What is Bioterrorism? What are the types of Bioterrorism? What issues or concerns should we be aware of when talking about Bioterrorism? How is Bioterrorism different from the United States and that of Guam? These are some of the things people would think of and wonder when they hear the word Bioterrorism. It s important to know the different steps or precautions that a person can look into in order to prevent themselves from being a victim of Bioterrorism. First things first, Bioterrorism is defined as the intentional release of toxic biological agents to harm and terrorize civilians, in the name of a political or other cause. The history of Bioterrorism goes way back. According to the Terrorism Issues and Homeland Security, there have always been efforts to use germs and disease as weapons. The reported risk has led the U.S. government to expend immense resources for bio defense in the early part of the 21st century. According to Right Diagnosis from health grades, there was a list of the different types of Bioterrorism and they are: Anthrax, Salmonella, Glanders, Melioidosis, and Smallpox. Anthrax is an acute infectious disease caused by the spore forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis. This disease mostly occurs in wild and domestic animals such as: antelopes, camels, cattle, goats, sheep, and other herbivores, but can occur in human if they get in contact with the infected animal. • 4. The World Is Too Much With Us Annotation For this discussion, I would like to look at The World Is Too Much with Us by William Wordsworth. I think that this poem fits the Italian sonnet category. To support this claim, the first 8 lines (octave) present a problem. Also, the first 8 lines follow the abbaabba form. The first line ends with the word soon (a), the second line ends with the word powers (b), the third line ends with the word ours (b), and the fourth line ends with the word boon (a). This same scheme continues throughout the next 5 lines as well. Because of this rhyming scheme, I believe it is an Italian Sonnet. One thing I really liked about this poem was the title. I read it and thought that it sounded funny because I would think that it would say The World Is Too Much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Table 1: Collision claim frequencies for new vehicles by month Source from: Laws Which Ban Cell Phone Use While Driving Not Reducing Accidents Shane McGlaun (Blog) January 29, 2010 Growing users of mobile phones With the development of the technology and the promotion of mobile phones, more and more people like to use mobile phones even get addicted to mobile phones. They use mobile phones anywhere especially for the teenagers. It seems that mobile phones become a basic necessity of life. Relations between mobile phones and driving Using mobile phones while driving has a bad effect on drivers. This is not only related to the drivers safety, but also related to the road safety (Healey, 2015). The findings show the short term effect of a teenage driver cell phone restriction. Even though the law took effect, it has little effect on teenage drivers use of cell phones (Foss et al 2009). However, under this situation, there are lots of teenagers like to use the mobile phone while driving. One of the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone while driving is because ... President Andrew Johnson s principle was that the South never had a right to succeed. He also believed that blacks should not have any role in the reconstruction. Johnson appointed provisional governors and ordered them to call state conventions to establish new, all white government. Radical Republicans believed that people of all skin color had the right to be equal. In their opinion, blacks should have the same political opportunities as well as rights as whites. They wanted to see the powers of national government expanded since they believed the war was fought for equal rights. • 8. Example Of Holistic Care Holistic Care is seen as the way in which the patient is cared for as a whole by looking not just at their physical or medical needs but also at their spiritual, psychological and social needs while in the clinical setting (Johns C. 2012, Rushton L. 2014). One of the main outcomes for holistic care is patients receiving the best standard of care and also patient satisfaction in their care. This is due to the patient being cared for in a way that doesn t just look at their disease and uses person centered care instead of the traditional medical model of nursing (McGeorge N. 2010). In order to adequately care for the patients that we see in clinical settings we must look at them holistically and not care for them solely using the medical model of nursing. Holistic care is especially important for patients who are under going surgery, like this patient who was getting a short gamma nail placed in her femur, as it helps to promote healing post operatively by encouraging compliance with the care they need. It also helps to reduce the anxiety felt by the patient as they feel they are not being ignored by the staff looking after them (Selimen D. 2011). Not only was their way of living affected by religion but the progression of advancement in infrastructure and early forms of technology were as well. By examining Roman baths and temples, defixiones, and Romanization of the provinces of the empire it is clear that religion helped to shape Roman advancements in infrastructure and early forms of technology during this time. Aquae Sulis and its baths are a perfect example of how religion affected Roman life and culture. Romans took mineral springs of hot water, declared them sacred, and transformed them into huge public baths and temples for worship. For the Romans believed that emerging one s self into the hot water would bring healing from the goddess Sulis. Without religious beliefs their desire for elaborate worship centers would not exist. • 10. Frank Tannenbaum s Theory Of The Labeling Theory Once a person is labelled as a deviant, it is hard to remove that label. The Labeling Theory basically says that no behavior is deeply rooted on its own. It is society s reaction to the behavior that makes the act deviant or not. Labeling is to give someone or something to a category and is usually given mistakenly. The people who usually doing the labeling have statues, numbers, power and authority. People with low status, power and authority are the ones that are being labeled. Dramatization of evil was the concept brought forward by Frank Tannenbaum, a big Labelling Theory theorist. Tannenbaum believes that this theory can change a person s identity from a doer of evil to an actual evil person evil person. BECKER Edwin Lemert was another big theorist of the Labeling Theory. He had studied check forgers to bring him to his conclusion about the Labeling Theory. From his check forging study, Lemert concluded that the forger s criminal career had only begun after they were labelled a criminal (Knutsson, 1978). The mission and strategic objectives of the organisation should be the ones that can be agreed not only by the individual members of the organisation, but also by the customers of the organisation. It would be best if the representatives of the public participated in the process of setting objectives and targets, but it seems that normally ministers responsible to Parliament play a significant role in the process of setting objectives and targets. As found in the cases of many countries, neither Parliament nor the National Assembly intervenes in defining the missions and strategic objectives, whilst they usually do intervene in the evaluation of performance. Some of the past most powerful players for Barcelona are Neymar Jr. who was a forward and striker and Carles Puyal who was a defender. For the 2017 2018 season Messi is the top player and had previously played with those champions. Messi is number 10 and has been on the team since 2003. He is a forward and striker for the team. Messi grew up in Argentina but plays for Spain and Barcelona. Neymar Jr is one of the more recent players for Barcelona. He originally played for Brazil then Barcelona but has moved on again for the 2017 2018 season. His father was Neymar and was a very good player, so Neymar Jr is following his dad s footsteps. Puyal was in the defense for Barcelona. He was reasonably familiar with the sport in general, so he always knew what to do. He was probably one of the best defenders on the team until he recently retired. Barcelona has twenty four amazing players, so I could not name them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Communication plays a massive part once building a relationship in the work setting. By regularly keeping effective communication between practioners, parents/careers and children makes a positive working environment. The relationships are mostly based on the type of communication between one another, communication is not just by verbally but also the body language we show, facial expressions and our gestures. Communication with children and young people is very important. When a child is new to the setting you would want them to feel comfortable and safe in your ... Not only do you talk to them but also the child will response, or even approach you first to communicate; either for a general conversation or to ask a question. All children are different, either it is by the way they re brought up, their culture, have different beliefs, and in the way they communicate for example; English is an additional language. If you had a child in the nursery who had English as a second language, and knew few words, verbally communicating with this child wouldn t be the first thing you would do. There are loads of different ways to do this for example; using picture cars with words, not only will this technique help communicate but also help build the childs English vocabulary. Another being demonstrating, for example; in an activity, lets say gluing and sticking, show the child what to do by demonstrating the activity for them to then copy your actions. Communication is very important, not only with the child/ young person but also their parents/ careers. Parents and careers need to be kept updated with everything that happens with their child/children and information that they need to know about the nursery itself. The stronger the relationship between the practioners and the parent/ career the stronger the trust the parents/ careers have with their child/ children in your care. Information should be shared on a day to day basis between the practioner and the parent/ career abpout everything that happens in the nursery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Copper Carbonate Lab Report The reaction characteristics of basic copper carbonate 〖mCuCO〗_3⋅n〖Cu(OH)〗_2 were observed by changing the reaction mole ratio. The reaction mole ratio of sodium carbonate to copper chloride (II) was controlled from 1.08 to 1.68. Fig. 1 shows the XRD patterns of copper carbonate powder. At a reaction ratio of 1.08, paratacamite (Cu_2 Cl(OH)_3 ), beside alkali copper carbonate, was formed because of incomplete reaction at a copper content of 53.9 wt%. Lack of sodium carbonate may cause incomplete reaction with copper chloride (II) because of low pH (6.0) of the solution [12]. The copper content according to the reaction mole ratio were 57.7, 50.5, 58.8, 59.3, and 59.8 wt% at the reaction mole ratios of 1.20, 1.32, 1.44, 1.56, and 1.68, respectively. ... In this study, most of the manufactured copper carbonate was converted to malachite basic copper carbonate of bright green at the reaction mole ratio of 1.20. In the case of low reaction ratio of sodium carbonate, m, the stoichiometric coefficients of CuCO3, is higher than n, the stoichiometric coefficient of Cu(OH)2, so that the amount of CuCO3 is generated is more than that of Cu(OH)2. With increasing reaction mole ratio of sodium carbonate, m is lower than n so that the generation rate of CuCO_3 is lower than that of Cu〖(OH)〗 _2. Therefore, copper content increased with increasing sodium carbonate. With assumption of same value of m and n, theoretical copper content becomes 57.5 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Purposes of Subscription Library Following the years of revolution, the eighteenth century was relatively stable and peaceful age. General improvement of life and urbanisation led to increase in the amount of spare time and money. The commercialisation of the leisure also made recreational activity more affordable, especially for the new middle class constituted by professionals. Their new vulnerable status in the society led them to seek their own culture, such as participation to society activities and enrolment to the subscription library. Subscription Library was first established in Liverpool in 1758, and it spread across Britain, growing the number of subscribers along the way. It was essentially a private library, requiring a payment of a guinea for entry and another ten shillings or so for the annual subscription fee. In turn, the members were allowed access to the permanent collection of the books. In this essay, I would like to discuss the possible purposes of the subscription library in the eighteenth century, by studying the library catalogues and regulations. Firstly the library s role in the associationalism and the polite culture would be considered. Then I would like to discuss how the library served as a place of forming a uniformed society, offering useful knowledge and promoting equality. Lastly, its exclusiveness would be studied. The purpose of the subscription library could be best explained as a part of the associationalism culture and the desire for the polite society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My original opinion about books are that they are pointless to read and a waste of my time. I could not have been more wrong. Before taking the class I would not want to read more than a paragraph of any kind of story. During the class, I started reading the assigned stories and poems. I found that quite a few of them are interesting and I realized reading books are like watching television without having actors acting out parts, it s left for our imagination. I can now read and imagine what is going on unlike before. I m unsure why I thought reading books was worthless when I would watch television which is worse than reading a book in the first place. • 34. Nuclear Weapon Production Of Nuclear Weapons Essay Nuclear Weapon Production Apocalypse Hunter Honeycutt Western Kentucky University Glasgow Nuclear Weapon Production Apocalypse If the production of nuclear weaponry is not diminished, it will cause the end of everything. With the production of nuclear weapons increasing, it will only be a matter of time until a nuclear war breaks out. When a nuclear weapon is used, it has three killing modes. The first would be the impact, when the bomb first hits. The second would be the shockwave that extends outward a good deal. Thirdly, the radiation effect would kill several more after that. How does a nuclear weapon work you might ask? Well there are two ways a nuclear weapon can work. One is nuclear fission and the other is nuclear fusion. In nuclear fission, the nucleus of an atom is split in two by a neutron. To do this, isotopes will need to be present such as uranium (uranium 235, uranium 233) or plutonium (plutonium 239) (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament). An isotope is the same element but with different numbers. Nuclear fusion is kind of how the sun works. According to Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, two small atoms are fused together to create one large atoms. This typically requires hydrogen or hydrogen isotopes (deuterium, tritium), to form a larger one (helium isotopes) (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament). As stated in a previous paragraph, a nuclear weapon will kill on contact. According to a website article by History.com, the first bomb that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If so why, if not why not? Prototype companies are vital so industry can move forward with world sustainability in the 21st Century. Interface is the role model of a prototypical company of the 21st Century as they promote and employ elements of Zero Discharge, reduced benign emissions, open communication, efficient transportation and logistics, and renewable energy concepts. Zero ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated by Wang et al. (2006, p. 160) ... environmental accidents, complaints, and concerns have pressured industries to shift from the traditions end of pipe approaches to sound pollution prevention strategies . Interface are reducing their smoke stacks. End of pipe solutions are no longer accepted as a means of reducing pollution and remaining sustainable in the 21st Century (Waage 2003, p. 23). This has resulted in Interface reducing their 292 smoke stacks to 183. This is a 39% reduction in smoke stacks from their operations. A reduction in smoke stacks equals a reduction in pollutants and waste entering the earths atmosphere. As stated by Wang et al. (2006, p. 160) Pollution represents a loss in profits during manufacturing . By Interface reducing their pollution through smoke stack minimisation, they will see a return in increased profits. Further looking into the aspect of reducing emissions, Interface has acknowledged that to prevent toxic emissions altogether we must go upstream and prevent those toxic substances from entering our factories in the first place. What comes in will go out as a product, waste or emission (Waage 2003, p. 23.). To sum this statement, prevention is better than cure. By following a process of assessing what products come into a manufacturing process and either substituting or eliminating pollutant products, the end waste will be minimised. • 37. General Electric Ge 90xe Engines New Technology Commercial Aviation General Electric GE 90XE Engines In March 2015, GE Aviation was granted the first FAA certification for a 3 D printed part to be installed in a jet engine. According to GE Aviation, the part is a T25 housing for a compressor inlet temperature sensor and will be retrofitted on over 400 of its GE90 94B engines. The part was designed using a CAD program and a rapid prototype was made of metal alloy using an SLS process. The final design was approved, the prototype was printed and tested, and the part was certified by the FAA in a 6 month period. Normally, this process would take several years with traditional manufacturing methods. What is unique about this part is that it is printed as one integral piece that contains internal cooling structures, making it less likely to coke (build up carbon during use) and overheat. According to GE Aviation, it is also 25% lighter and 5 times more durable than the previous compressor inlet temperature sensor that it is replacing. It is printed as one solid piece while the old part is made of 18 pieces fitted together (Radis, 2015). What really makes AM technology appealing to manufacturers like GE Aviation is the ability to design parts without being limited by traditional manufacturing methods. The CAD computer allows the engineers to design with intent and embed cooling structures or lubrication joints into a part; which was not previously feasible with traditional manufacturing.
