Self Reflection
Coming into a college writing course, I did not expect it to be easy. Throughout high school essays
were very easy to write due to teachers cutting way too much slack and handing out easy grades.
Writing has always been difficult for me, but I feel this is because I have not been challenged yet to
demonstrate my full writing ability. I had yet to develop my own voice as a writer. Throughout this
course, I was met with many challenges to bring out the true writer inside of me and because of this, I
was ultimately able to grow as a writer. The essays that I have written throughout the WRC 1013
course demonstrate that I have developed better annotation skills, communication skills and personal
responsibility skills; however, I still need to improve in proofreading and learning how to receive
more revisions from my peers.
After going through my essays, one self reflection throughout my papers I was able to gather was my
growth in developing good annotation throughout my chosen sources. For example, in my first paper
Behind the Screen VS. The Real World , my annotation and gathering information from sources was
very poor. This is shown in the essay where I completely stated the opposite of what Rita Dove was
trying to say in her piece Loose Ends . I state that, As you can see, this is one of many reasons as to
how so much screen time can have a negative influence on people which is what Rita Dove is
implying in her article ( Behind the Screen Vs. The Real World 2). This

Pessimism And Fears Of Ezra Pound s Brother Wasp Song
Moreover, readers should remember the fact that Ezra Pound wrote that while he was in a cage as
Pisa, he was arrested for treason. Therefore, the poems he wrote in the cage, sometimes show his
losses, his internal conflicts, pessimism and fears:
DAKRUON in Greek means weeping. Here, he clearly expresses his fears that he won t be able to see
Giudecca (an island and canal in Venice), Ca Foscari (a Venetian palace, on the Grand Canal), and
Desdemona (the Palazzo Contarini Fasan on the Grand Canal was sometimes called this).
Immediately after, watching Brother Wasp building, Ezra Pound seems to be fascinated. Despite the
fact that Brother Wasp is never thought as an important creature in human world, it is as important as
human beings, in fact it may be more important because Pound believes that it is ... Show more

Observing Brother Wasp, Pound also feels fascinated by the perfection he saw, and brings his own
work to halt: and that day I wrote no further.
In the next stanza, Pound extracts from a poem named The Peacock which was published in Poetry,
May 1914 was written by Yeats (Terrell 462). Yeats who wanted to be away from London for a while,
asked Pound to be his secretary. In the stanza Wordsworth refers to the volumes which Pound was
supposed to read as a part of his secretarial duties because Yeats eyes were weak (Terrell 462). Life
with Yeats in a four room Sussex cottage was pleased and tranquil. He described life at Stone Cottage
nostalgically as follows:
Pound recalls Yeats voice, sounding like wind in the chimney as he reads his poem The Peacock,
Pound creates a kind of rhythmic sound by adding syllables to the word peacock in order to present
how Uncle William in other words Yeats would utter

Essay about High School Graduation Day
High School Graduation Day
Many people have experienced the over whelming excitement that you feel as you approach high
school graduation day, and for me, that s a day that I will never forget. The amount of emotions that
you feel on graduation day is unbelievable, and I have yet to experience anything else like it. I can
remember feeling anxious to celebrate the big day with my friends and family, while at the same time
I was panicking thinking about having to walk across the stage in front of that many people. Then, the
more I thought about the reality of graduation day, I started to get curious, but nervous, about being
able to start a new chapter in my life once graduation day had passed. There are several reasons why I,

As the end of the night approached us, I couldn t stop thinking about how many mixed emotions I had
about starting a whole new chapter in my life. I couldn t wait to go to college, meet all new people, get
a degree so that I could start my career path, but I knew that meant I had to say goodbye to my two
best friends, who were moving several hours away from me. This was one of the hardest things I had
ever had to do in my life. We all cried a little, and then made promises to keep in touch, and then we
were off into the real world! I was very happy to be at this point in my life, but I was scared deep
down inside.
When I look back on this day now, I still remember every detail as if it was yesterday. I was so proud,
and happy to be able to celebrate such an amazing day with all of my friends and family. I know I will
never forget how embarrassed I was walking across the stage in front of all of those people, feeling
famous after taking so many pictures, making our final memories together at our graduation parties,
and then being a nervous wreck when it was time to go out into the world without my best friends at
my side. High school graduation day was a very emotional day for me, but it was by far the most
exciting day I have ever experienced in my

The Horrendous Suffering Faced by Dave Pelzer
American author, Dave Pelzer, grew up in San Francisco with his mother, father, and brothers. Dave s
mother was not like a normal mother, Dave s mother, Catherine Pelzer, beat and neglected Dave. Dave
also had 4 brothers that lived with him and his parents: Richard, Ron, Stephen, and Kevin. Dave s
father lived with them, but was rarely home. While Catharine did not neglect Dave s brothers she did
not deserve custody of Dave s brothers, because of her abusive ways towards Dave (Pelzer).
Dave s mother, Catharine Pelzer, was the mother of Dave and his brothers and the wife to Stephen.
Catharine was an alcoholic, who was also mentally unstable, and who by no means was in the position
to care for children. Catharine neglected Dave to an extreme extent; many of the things she did to
Dave could have easily killed him (Pelzer). Dave was no longer considered a child he was a slave, a
child called it. Dave s brothers Richard, Ron, Stephen, and Kevin lived with the family, but they were
not treated the same way as Dave was treated. The brothers were treated as any other kid should be
treated, they would be able to eat with the family, play outside, watch television, or do things other
children would do. While their brother, Dave, was not allowed to do any of these things. As Dave s
brothers watched the abuse, they did nothing to stop it (Pelzer). Dave s father, Stephen, was a
firefighter and an alcoholic. In the beginning Dave s father was home all the time, but as time went on

Reflective Essay On Infection Control In The Hospital
Academic Literacy: Reflective essay 17 Aug. 14
Gillian van Aardt 214097226
Infection Control:
In the hospital or clinical environment infection control must be exercised for the better health of the
patient and to avoid exposure to the healthcare worker. Infection is the establishment and growth of a
pathogen inside the human body. Infection control is thus the management of these infections to
prevent injury to the patient resulting in disease. In the diagnostic ultrasound department, the good use
of infection control is critical to avoiding contamination from patient to patient and to the sonographer
because of the close proximity to each other and repeated use of medical equipment. Due to the wide
use of ultrasound for diagnosis, the sonographer is exposed to a wider variety of potential infection ...

Being immune compromised, or immunosuppressed, these patients are at risk of acquiring further
infections in the hospital environment. Such hospital acquired infections are called nosocomial
infections. The greater need for medical attention of a patient, the higher the risk of acquiring a
nosocomial infection. Some pathogens which cause infection use the opportunity of an immune
compromised patient, to grow and reproduce where in normal circumstances it could not do this. In
diagnostic medical sonography, the sonographer is very close to the patient physically which provides
a gateway for infection to spread from the sonographer to the patient and vice versa. It is thus
important not to go to work sick for the patient and their own health. The hospital is home to many
pathogens due to the amount of patients suffering from infection, and because these patients are
immunosuppressed, healthcare workers need to be vigilant about controlling the spread of infection to
provide quality care to the

The Theory Of Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism
Have you eaten breakfast this morning? Put on clean clothes? Did you have a bed to sleep in at the
end of your day? For millions of less fortunate around the world, the answer to those questions is no.
Knowing this is true, can you continue to go about your day and claim to be a moral and ethical
person? In order to obtain the greatest pleasure for the greatest number of people, it is clear that you in
order to uphold your moral duty; you must contribute to those experiencing poverty.
When applying this concept to the consequentialist theory of utilitarianism, it is important to first
examine the difference between act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. As Mosser explains, act
utilitarianism tells us that we must question what single act would generate the greatest good.
Whereas, rule utilitarianism evaluates the actions themselves and determines what would produce an
outcome that institutes the greatest good. (2013 sec. 6.1) From an act utilitarian standpoint, say you
had a hundred dollars to spend lavishly. If you purchased the designer shirt you have been looking at
for weeks, you would definitely be happy, you would make the person selling the shirt happy, and you
would make the company making the shirt happy. Yet, if you were to give the same hundred dollars to
charity and it fed a family for a week, gave them new clothing, the medicine they needed, and better
shelter this action would outweigh your pleasure from the shirt you purchased. Not only from

Starbucks Swot Analysys
Starbucks Case Study Starbucks has been a household name for over 20 years. It is the largest coffee
house in the world with over 17,000 stores in 50 countries (Wikipedia Website, 2011). How can a
giant like Starbucks stay on top of the coffee market yet retain its personal small coffee house feel?
Starbucks continuous strive and strategic management plans have proven beneficial in keeping to the
goals of the organization.
Strategic Management Setting the Mission and Goals The first step in the strategic management
process is to identify the current goals of the organization (Coulter amp; Robbins, 2009). Starbuck s
original mission statement, as reported in the Jerusalem Post, was to Provide a great work
environment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starbucks decided that a better loyalty program through the Starbucks Card was necessary. This
program gave frequent customers better incentives such as free refills or a free birthday coffee
(Starbucks Website, 2011). One of Starbuck s strengths was also a weakness. It was huge. The
Starbuck s growth surge had caused it to lose its corner coffee shop appeal. People were starting to
view it as a huge conglomerate and not just a place to go have a great cup of coffee. Schultz decided to
bring back the smaller espresso machines. Doing this enabled the Baristas to be able to look and talk
to the customers and the customers could actually watch them making the drinks (Besharov, et al.,
2008). It also provided a real coffee house look and not an industrial, assembly line as it did
previously.
Evaluation of Starbuck s Strategy I am impressed with Starbuck s strategy. I feel that they are on the
road to being one of the most successful corporations in America. I went to two local Starbucks and
observed the employees and their interactions with the customers. I feel that the new mission is being
adhered to and the partners are engaged and genuinely like working at Starbucks. The customers seem
to love the product they are producing. I was particularly impressed with mystarbucksidea.com
website. There was actual interaction between the customers and the partners. I feel that Starbucks

Jonas In The Giver By Lois Lowry
Imagine, you are an ordinary member of your society, wanting to grow up like your parents and elders
of the community. Suddenly, you are given the highest position of your society, the Receiver, and soon
to be leader. How would you adjust? In the novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas commences as a
naive member of the community, midway he is knowledgeable, in the conclusion he is a courageous
man. In the inception of the novel, Jonas is accustomed to the traditions of his family and all of the
families in his society. Jonas, his parents, and his sister, Lily, convey their dreams to one another each
morning. The sharing of community members dreams and additional customs are established by the
Council of Elders. In addition, the community leaders hold information and memories from the
members of the community: love, hate, war, and hunger. Thus, Jonas is a naive boy, who has no
knowledge on the community s history or its present state. The Council of Elders blind Jonas as well
as his fellow community members, by not informing people on release, senses, feelings, and colors. ...

workers, Jonas s old friends, of the community share their stories and lessons each day after training.
Contrary, Jonas has made the mandatory pledge to stay quiet and never tell a soul about the memories:
love, hate, war, and hunger. Therefore, Jonas is no longer a naive boy but a young man blooming with

Artificial Grafts Research Paper
Abstract
Anterior cruciate ligament ruptures occur 100,000 to 200,000 annually in the United States. It is a key
knee stabilizer and is a recognized injury in both professional and recreational activities. It can tear
from a hard hit to the side, overextending the knee or quickly stopping while changing direction while
running, landing from a jump or turning. Attempts of ACL reconstruction using silver, stainless wires,
nylon, silk strings, and various synthetic fibers were first used in the beginning of the 20th century to
make artificial grafts; the first experiment failed within the first 3 months. Modern ACL reconstruction
surgeries use allografts, autografts, synthetic grafts or a combination to repair or replace ruptured
ACLs. Autografts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

eukaryotes. Homeobox genes are associated with many body structures such as the brain, central
nervous system, skeleton muscle, neural crest, heart, and liver (1) It is highly conservative and
consists of 180 base pairs. Homeobox genes had isolated from Xenopus, mouse, and humans. There
are about 333 homeobox loci in the human genome(z). The well known homoebox gene is HOX gene,
which plays an important role in embryogenesis. Such a mutation in one of these genes leads to

First finding: Msx genes are essential in ectomesodermal interactions to mediate cellular proliferation
and differentiation during limb formation, AEC formation, and limb patterning. Second finding,
overexpressed Msx1 (Hox7) in hindlimb regeneration in a transgenic Xenopus model (M1) resulted in
higher proliferation rate in both BCs and AEC, thickened wound epithelium, and more regenerated
toes in M1 compared with WT animals in stage 54 (5).
A paper studied the effect of Msx1, Msx2, and Dlx5 (Distal Less Homeobox 5) overexpression on
proteins involved in skeletal differentiation since Msx1 is an important for the development of tooth
and craniofacial skeleton. Authored used an odontoblastic cell line and overexpressed Msx1 antisense
RNA and Msx1 sense RNA. They found that Msx1 antisense RNA is expressed in differentiated dental
and bone cells, which is in opposite correlation with msx1 protein. In addition, Msx1 antisense RNA
was involved in crosstalk between the Msx Dlx pathways. Msx1 down regulated Cbfa1, which is an
activator of osteocalcin gene for osteoblast differentiation. Indeed, this mechanism is essential to
control cell proliferation. Besides, Msx1 sense RNA was detected early during tooth development.
They suggested that Msx1 sense and antisense RNAs is a very important in the control of skeletal cells
from proliferation to terminal differentiation. This expression is conservative in mice,

World War I And Great War
World war one was one the biggest wars in recorded history. It lasted from 1914 1918 and was a brutal
conflict in Canadian history. More than 60,000 Canadians died in this war. When the First World War
began in the year of 1914, some believe that it would last for a long time. Many young individuals in
Canada and others saw this war as a privilege to travel, adventure, and great beauty. Some individuals
were afraid that the conflict would be over before they could get into the battle. Many people signed
up dreaming that they would have the honour of fighting for the British Empire, to which Canada
belonged. The somewhat Great War was different in the dreamy vision than it was in reality. This war

Some of the causes of world war one are imperialism, militarism, nationalism, and alliances.
Imperialism is when one country rules over another through establishment of colonies. Imperialism
resulted from Industrialization, which was needed for raw goods and markets for manufactured goods.
The countries fought with each other over colonies. Militarism was used for building a strong military
and in order for that country to have its interests dominate the government. In the past, war was seen
as something that was acceptable to solve conflicts and enhance a country. Some examples of
imperialism include: naval arms race between Great Britain and Germany. Nationalism is a strong
feeling of loyalty and protection of culture and need of ethnic group to have a country that is their
own. Alliances are countries that form cooperative groups in order to protect everyone s interests.
However, the most significant cause of world war one was industrialization, which had fueled
imperialism, and Nationalism. Together they both caused three factors that led to war: German
unification, territorial rivalries, and economic competition.
The Great powers were prepared to participate in the war because in the 15th century, some European
nations were expanding their territory forcefully. Countries that were powerful used imperialism by
creating colonies all over the world in order to create empires. They used the land and resources of the
nations that were weak and controlled by the great

Essay on A Long Way Down
Suicide and humor are two words not often associated with each other, but Nick Hornby takes the pair
on in his novel A Long Way Down, a dark comedy about suicide and life after a failed attempt. The
book is narrated by four characters taking turns telling the story in their voice. The resulting
hodgepodge gang includes Martin, a quasi celebrity who loses everything after an affair with a fifteen
year old girl; Maureen, the middle aged mother of a severely disabled son; Jess, an obnoxious
teenager living recklessly to avoid her reality of a missing sister; and JJ, the American and aspiring
musician who s found himself lonely and alone in England. This unexpected group meets on New
Year s Eve on the roof of the well known suicide spot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reaching the roof on their Valentine s reunion, Maureen observes that with the end of daylight savings
time even though it seemed dark when we were down on the street, up on the roof it felt as though
there were some light left somewhere in the city (Hornby 330). From the point in the novel when the
group first descends from the roof, every aspect of the story is building towards this end, in which the
hopeful theme is fully realized. Late in the night in which the group first meet, Martin jokes, A trouble
shared is a trouble halved, and because there are four of us, it s actually been quartered (Hornby 102).
Although said mockingly, Jess agrees and even with just hours of time together, this adage rings true
for the desperate four. The importance of camaraderie and community in finding hope is persistent
through the end of the story. After witnessing the man actually jump from the tower block, it is Martin
who honestly says, I m not, you know. Ready to go solo just yet. It s funny because I don t actually
like any of you very much. But you seem to be, I don t know What I need (Hornby 240). The ending
of A Long Way Down clearly enforces Hornby s chosen theme, though as just another happy ending it
is disappointing.
Even disguised, this happily ever after ending is both predictable and unsatisfying. Since the story is

The Collapse Of Indymac Bank
The Collapse of IndyMac Bank
In 2008 the world faced the worst financial crisis since the great depression. Many banks closed their
doors for good that year. Among them were both small and large banks. One specific bank that
collapsed that year was IndyMac, one of the largest banks in the United States. IndyMac marked the
largest collapse of a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insured institution since 1984,
when Continental Illinois, which had $40 billion in assets, failed, according to FDIC records ( The
Fall of IndyMac 2008). This paper will talk about the cause of the collapse of IndyMac in 2008, the
handling of the issues, as well as the aftermath of the collapse. IndyMac was created by David Loeb
and Angelo Mozilo in 1985 and was originally called Countrywide Mortgage Investment. It was built
to collect Countrywide Financial loans that were too large to be sold to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.
IndyMac Bank was the largest savings and loan association in the Los Angeles area and the seventh
largest mortgage originator in the United States ( Too Good to Be True: The Fall of IndyMac , 2008).
In 1999, IndyMac loaned out record amounts. In the first quarter alone IndyMac loaned out $1.6
billion. In July of 2000, IndyMac became IndyMac Bank when it acquired SGV Bancorp. The total
purchase cost was $62.5 million and it made IndyMac Bank the ninth largest bank at the time.

The Real Irish Republican Army
RIRA: Description of group The Real Irish Republican Army (RIRA) is a splinter group of the Irish
Republican Army (IRA) that uses sabotage, subversion, and guerilla warfare to express its opposition
to the terms of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. This agreement basically recognized that the
majority of the people within Northern Ireland wished to remain a part of the United Kingdom. It also
recognized that a large section of the people of Northern Ireland, and the majority of the people of the
continent of Ireland wanted a united Ireland. For the most part, the Good Friday Agreement brought
an end to the struggle between unionists and nationalists during the Troubles (an unconventional war
spanning from 1968 1998 in Northern Ireland between British security forces, republican and loyalist
paramilitaries, and civil rights groups). To understand how the RIRA came to be, you have to know a
little about the history of the IRA. Specifically, on how the members regarded violence as a means to a
unified Ireland without British involvement. In December 1969, the IRA divided into Official and
Provisional wings. Both factions were committed to a united Irish republic, but the Officials eschewed
violence after 1972, whereas the Provisionals, or Provos, carried out various attacks and
assassinations, attempting to compel the British Army to withdraw from Northern Ireland. In the wake
of the Bloody Sunday shootings by the British military in January 1972, the Provos ranks

Essay on The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory
Why is the Universe expanding? What is Cosmic Back Ground Radiation (CBR)? There are many
questions asked about our Universe, which we know so little about. Scientists, in their attempt to
answer these and other confrontations, have found one idea that seems to explain much of what we
don t understand: The Big Bang Theory.
An explosion of incomprehensible speed was the beginning of our known Universe and existence. At
that time matter as small as the head of a pin inflated to become larger than the visible Universe of
today in less than one millisecond. The newly born Universe cooled very quickly and continued to
grow. Still, the heat was too great for normal elementary particles like protons and neutrons to ...

There were many people who worked together to come up with the present theory of creation. Edwin
Hubble, Arno Penzias, Robert Wilson and Alan Guth all contributed greatly to the formation of the
Big Bang theory.
Edwin Hubble used his large telescope to see far away stars and galaxies. He knew that the elements
in the stars reflected back specific colors, and you could tell what a star was made of by its color ?
DNA?. Hubble noticed that this pattern had been slightly shifted to the red side of the spectrum,
otherwise called a red shift. He knew, based on the Doppler effect, that a red shift was caused by the
stretched wavelengths of an object moving away from a point. If the galaxies he had observed had
shifted to the red side then it meant that they were moving away from Earth. He also discovered that
the galaxies were moving away from each other, as well.
With these observations in mind, Hubble announced that the universe was expanding. He then came to
this syllogism: If the universe is expanding, then at one point it was smaller. The result of his
postulations was the Big Bang theory.
Another mystery of the universe was the Cosmic Background Radiation (CBR). CBR is made up of
photons throughout the universe that are floating for no apparent reason in space. Arno Penzias and
Robert Wilson spent their lives trying to explain the origin of this radiation and why it is still existent
today. Their discoveries

Angeles, California. I travelled everywhere and met some fans, showed them the album I was about to

my life . And I was like Aw so nice of you but then it hit me I was worried for them because I didn t

Anxiety, A Psychological, Physiological, And Behavioral...
The definition of anxiety is, a psychological, physiological, and behavioral state induced in animals
and humans by a threat to well being or survival, either actual or potential (Steimer, 2002). Anxiety is
expressed in humans through many different situations, such as having phobias resembling being
afraid of the dark when nothing threatening is there, or having social anxiety corresponding to being
nervous about interacting with others who they do not know. Many people will confuse anxiety with
fear, or use it interchangeably with fear, but there is a difference. Fear is a response to a threat that is
actually there, while anxiety is a learned response to a situation where the danger expressed itself. It
seems to have grown to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why would this behavior have been developed in humans? There are particular explanations that can
explain this phenomenon. For one, anxiety was developed in an environment where there were many
actual dangers, such as predators, poisonous plants as well as many other threats that were constantly
in the human environment. Humans, as well as other animals in this environment, would probably
benefit more from developing mechanisms that would cause them to avoid taking unnecessary risks to
dangerous phenomenon, or to take proper precautions when doing so, such as traveling in groups for
protection. For example, humans may have developed anxiety towards being out in the dark because it
led to a higher likelihood for those humans to survive until they are able to reproduce, and that
children are anxious of monsters in the dark for the purpose of protection against actual predators that
would devour people and end their bloodlines if they wandered off alone. Humans may be anxious
about trying unusual foods because in ancient times, there were plenty of people that died or got sick
from eating poisonous foods. Socially, why would anxiety evolve in social situations with others? In
the times of our ancestors, if a person acted against the desires of her/his tribe, that person would risk
being punished, killed, or ostracized from the group, the latter of which may lead to almost

Defining Domestic Service And Workers
2.1 DEFINING DOMESTIC SERVICE/WORKERS
The term domestic service is difficult to define, as the duties of the domestic workers are not so well
defined. In common discourse, the term is defined as a person who is employed.

The Effect On The Rule Of Law
When the rule of law has been established by societal conventions, it can be changed when the
government coerces the enforcement of unfair rules. When the rule of law is established through the
government, smuggling will often undermine it because the law is not being applied equally to the
smugglers, and they gain an unfair advantage in the market. One can argue that the smugglers are
responding to unfair tariffs that prevent the rule of law because they as importers have to a tax that
domestic producers do not have to pay. If the rule of law has been established so tariffs are small, and
fair, then the argument is flawed. Negative effects on the rule of law caused by the tariff will be
smaller than the negative effect on the rule of law when the law does not apply equally to everyone,
and smugglers bribe official to successfully import their goods so when the rule of law is well
established, smuggling undermines it.
When a country does not have a well established rule of law, then smuggling can help created a strong
De Facto rule of law by encouraging equitable societal conventions. If tariffs are sufficiently high, and
importation or exportation bans are comprehensive, then people stop applying the government s rules
and in turn they create a new set of societal conventions that people adhere too. When this happens,
the rule of law is strengthen because smugglers avoid stifling tariffs, and the rules are applied more
equitably to foreign producers, and domestic

Willy Loman In Willy Of A Salesman
Willy Loman is trapped in his life, often being suffocated by the things around him, but what is really
trapping him in these bricks and windows, bricks and windows is himself. Willy is trapping himself
from achieving success. In his head, success is thought as the same by everyone else in the society, to
be rich, have kids, and a house. The reason why Willy himself can t achieve it, is because of the things
in his life happening around him that makes his mind think differently. For example, his two sons.
Willy had thought highly of them back when they were younger, especially Biff because they were
both hotshots at their high school. Even Biff admits that his dad pressured him to much to do well in
school, which led him to getting nowhere in life saying Biff: I stole myself out of every good job since
high school! Willy: And whose fault is that? Biff: And I never got anywhere because you blew me so
full of hot air I could never stand taking orders from anybody! That s whose fault it is! Willy: I hear
that! Linda: Don t, Biff! (131). This conversation Willy had with Biff had changed his mindset on how
he raised his child, he once thought he was motivating his sons but it ended up making his sons so
pressured to not end up doing anything with their life. When Willy had come home from a business
trip to see his sons broke and jobless not even achieving success themselves, it had ruin Willy s
success as well, wanting his children to exceed in life.

Human Smuggling And Human Trafficking
Human smuggling is defined as the act of facilitating, transporting or aiding the illegal entry of a
person or persons across an international border, deliberately evading the country s immigration laws.
Human trafficking is similar, but not quite the same since the person being trafficked has not given
consent, while smuggling is under an agreement between smuggler and customer. A victim of
trafficking is also usually treated as possession to be controlled and exploited ( Human Trafficking
Gale ) . Human smuggling and trafficking both have damaging effects and the causality is left with
physical, mental and emotional scars. A majority of the people that are being affected are migrants
from Central America or residents of the Mexican highlands hoping to get work on farms or
construction sites in the U.S. Being smuggled across the border is very problematic. Not only because
there is a high risk of being caught, but if they are able to make it across they are generally unable to
pay for food, transportation and often don t speak English.( Dying to Leave. ) Victims of trafficking
are primarily young children or women whose purpose is to either be used as slave labor or some sort
of sexual exploitation like prostitution. Human smuggling and trafficking is such an important issue to
resolve because it s a violation of human rights, a form of organized crime, undermines human safety
and even threatens development prospects in many regions around the world ( Human Trafficking. )

When using metaphors, Dance Boys are usually braggers or show offs, which they describe as

What role does the landscape play in contributing to...
In this essay I will consider the roles of city and country in three short stories; Water Them Geraniums
by Henry Lawson, Short Shift Saturday by Gavin Casey, and Trees Can Speak by Alan Marshall. I
will argue through contributing to character development, they provide insight into the construction of
contempory Australian identity. In Water Them Geraniums the outback is shown to be an emasculating
force, particularly for women, that strips away their humanity until they function in a mechanical way
to survive off the land. In Short Shift Saturday the narrator is a product of an inherited colonial culture
and imagines that it is the alien landscape and culture in which he lives that is the agent of his
suffering. In reality, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is particularly true for the female characters. Mary and Mrs Spicer, whose family is the Wilson s

says will kill her.
Mrs Spicer is a gaunt and flat chested woman whose face has been burnt to a brick . She is a little wild
looking at times and when working she wears clothes like an old coat of her husband s , to do what
would have traditionally been considered male tasks such as fixing a leak in the roof. When she helps
Mary lay the table, the way she handles the crockery and napkins convinces Mary that she had been

Mrs Spicer is the incarnation of Mary s destiny if she continues to live in the bush. She is a woman
whose femininity has been ground down by a hard working and poverty stricken life providing for
herself and her many children and whom at the end of the story, dies at a comparatively young age. In
order to survive in country which is no place for a woman , she has had to become a man. Poverty has
stripped her of any luxuries and what possessions she has are worn. The story puts forward that
women treasure attractive or stylish objects because they are the hallmarks of civilisation. Both the
main female characters in this story display this tendency such as when Mary becomes disheartened as

Why I Decided to Not Go on the Trip It was actually a pretty simple decision. I woke up the Monday

deemed me the evil crook. I also didn t want to be mean to August Pullman, but it was my defense

Change In Health Care Policy
Impact of changes from change in health care policy
Discussion 3 In chapter three of the Estes Healthcare policy, she explores the healthcare reforms now
and in the future. Her analysis borrows from other studies that had been done to explore the
implications of the healthcare reforms to all the stakeholders. The article explores the implications of
the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Medicaid and Children`s Health Insurance Program
Provisions, and Community Living Assistance, Services and Support Act. The changes would have
significant changes in the healthcare delivery systems. One of the implications of the changes would
be decreased quality of healthcare. The program aimed to increase the number of the insured people
and the number of the people accessing basic healthcare in the US. The inclusion of the economically
challenged in the care program stimulated the need for reduced contribution to the model. The
decreased contribution to the program translated to decreased payments of the services offered in the
clinics by the insurer. To operate effectively with the reduced payments, the clinics adopted designs of
healthcare delivery or advanced practices that are aligned to the amount paid by the insurer that
significantly reduced the quality of the healthcare delivery (Estes et al., 2013). The program

This report is conducted to analyze data of latest Home Office s annual staff survey and define the key
areas of concern and success. The staff survey was taken this year and cover overall level of
satisfaction and engagement among employees. The report will be presented at the next meeting of the
Home Office s senior management board scheduled on 14th of December 2014.
Overview of overall level of engagement
The degree of engagement among staff of UK Home Office is close to 50%. It remains in the same
position as in the previous year. However, the difference even between benchmark according to Civil

For instant, the team and fair treatment have approximately no influence on the overall engagement
level. Although, even work and line management has performed higher than 60% that is a point of
congratulation in comparison with other drivers, the strongest one, leadership and managing change, is
remaining in the same position. In order to compare the strength of different drivers, there is 73% of
the staff that satisfied with their team and only 30% positive answer with leadership style in the
organization. By the fact, that leadership has the strongest impact of the engagement level, the changes
in it would be crucial for it, unlike the job satisfaction with the team. For the all three key drivers of
engagement, leadership, work and line management, Home Office still stay below the benchmark that
estimated by CS2012 by 11%, 9% and 5% respectively.
Leadership and managing change
There are 18% of respondents considers that all of the changes in the organization are making their
work better. It is disappointing, but the score is lower from previous year for 1% and for 7% lower
than average level among other civil departments. From the point of view of 31% of staff, Home
Office has clear understanding of future goal. It is good to know that this number increased form
previous year for 2%, however it is still under the benchmark by 9%. The feeling, that organization as
a whole is managed well, is inherent only for 28% of employees. It is worse than past result for 1%

The UK Rail vs. Smithfileld case is a striking example of the term Agency of Necessity. This is the
case when, in certain circumstances, the agent is allowed by law to take actions on behalf of the
principal without the will, knowledge or any other representation of the principal. However, certain
requirements have to be met, in order for the agent to claim that it acted out of necessity: 1) the actions

interests of the principal (to be genuinely judged by the agency). The first test to be passed by an agent

Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by Charles Montesquieu The Persian Letters
(1721), a fictional piece by Charles Montesquieu, is representative of the Enlightenment, both
supporting and showing conflict with its ideas. The initial perception of European people, in particular
the French, is of a busy people with goals and ambition whose focus is progress; in this way they are
able to gain knowledge a core foundation to Enlightenment. One particular section of the Persian

The thought was that human kind was emerging from an age of darkness into Enlightenment . This
idea was focused around the advancement of scientific knowledge, the development of respect for
humanity and above all, reason. People of this time believed that knowledge had to be earned and that
through experience and observation, guided by reason, progress was inevitable. The idea of
Enlightenment filtered its way into society and was became institutionalized. During this period,
European traditions also came under the microscope and were challenged by many scholars and
philosophers. Economical, social and political attitudes were studied and began to move away from
negativity. People then focused on the positives of life and human nature. The monarch and general
hierarchy of society was questioned and related back to natural intentions for mankind. Frenchmen felt
enslaved by their current authorities and tried to overthrow them through the improvement of literacy,
anonymous tracts and social exploration. As the focus of Enlightenment was on the natural law and
order of the world, religious beliefs and especially Christian theology were a central topic. People of
this age were trying to simplify common day human laws back to nature as it provided the basic

Sodom And Gomorrah Essay
Since the first Torahs and Bibles were written and printed, there has been constant discussion and
argument circling around the aspects of interpretations and what certain passages mean versus what
they don t. As readers of anything, it is important to look for meaning, even more so when it comes to
heavily religious texts like that of the Judeo Christian faiths. Within recent years, the overarching
argument within Christianity specifically, has become about the story of the destruction of Sodom and
Gomorrah. This discussion, however, is not a simple one by any stretch, as the mentioning and
referencing of this event spreads wide across Scripture in both Old and New Testaments. Not only is
the topic widespread, but in the past few recent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, the adultery was not only happening, but was encouraged and not stopped. As Jeremiah 23:14
references Sodom and Gomorrah in the fact of prophets, too, committing adultery and strengthening
the hands of evildoers , it goes to show that not only are the people doing these things, but that no one
tries to stop them besides Lot, who gets out safely (NIV).
The second point to contrast against the traditional Christian interpretation of the story of Sodom and
Gomorrah is that the destruction happens because of the non consensual aspect of the narrative. The
men of the city were pressuring Lot, as it says in verse 9, to give these men, or angels, who were under
Lot s protection, up so that they could, essentially, commit gang rape upon them. In Jamieson, Fausset,
and Brown s Bible Commentary, he comments regarding verses 6 8 that,
But the offer made by Lot was so extreme as plainly shows that he had been thrown into a state of the
most perturbed and agitated feeling, between fear of the popular violence and solicitude for the safety
of the strangers that were under his roof (Jamieson).
Lot was so fearful of the violence and rape that the men intended to bring upon them that he became
desperate. He was not only fearful after the beginning of the men s pressing, but when the angels first
arrived as well. In verse 3, Lot, presses them to stay with him, obviously scared for them to stay
outside all night, knowing what the men of the town are

has been slow to develop, the current quality of family law, which is guided by the means of the 1975
Family Law Act (FLA) has been affecting justice for family members. The effectiveness of family law

This change in law achieves justice for most same sex couples, though there still are some couples
who are negatively affected by this changing issue. The issue of shared parental responsibility is
another issue that provides difficulty in achieving justice for the family law. There is a belief that
equal shared parental responsibility is in the best interest of the child although this may not always be
the case. An example of not achieving justice in this area is if a divorcing mother claims that her ex
husband is abusive and her husband should not gain any sort of custody of her children; if the mother
does not have any evidence to back this up, her abusive ex partner may gain custody of their children
and the mother doesn t. This in itself is a huge injustice for the mother and her children. The
contemporary issue of surrogacy and birth technologies has been a long and argumentative topic.
Some people may argue that a woman bearing a child for another couple is a sacrifice of their body,
while others view it as an unethical and damaging process for the child; saying that the child is denied
their birth parents. The laws relating to surrogacy differ in many countries but most countries agree on
commercial surrogacy, saying that it be illegal for a woman to be paid to give birth to someone else s
child. The responsibility of the care and protection of children lies with the child s parents. The
decisions regarding children may include the child s health, schooling, cultural upbringing and many
other factors. The protection of the children becomes a problem when the parents of the children may
not be able to provide adequate care and protection for their children, which is when the law will start

Argumentative Essay On Body Image
Under society s customs for decades, young women have found themselves immersed in the pressure
and anticipation to have exemplary bodies. Nearly every young woman prefers to be slim, have a
perfectly shaped body, that is beautified by applying pounds of makeup to their face but does not
appear ridiculously overdone. Who s responsible for these measures imposed on young women? When
a young girl picks up the model on the cover of Vogue being called flawless, naturally it s easy for her
to then aspire to be a real life imitation of the that model. These companies produce magazine covers
shown with girls images daily. As if keeping the perfect body wasn t hard enough, our culture also
forces girls into the forever expanding world of composition, however, body image is a surging
subject for young girls. Advertisements and pictures of lean female models are all over. Young women
are measured and perplexed by their physical appearances with attire intended to raise their physical
structures; social media, magazines, the society, marketing campaigns, advertisements, and the fashion
gurus add to a strand of excellence.
The fashion industry is a major object of body image issues, as they believe clothes look better on
more than average height and svelte women. Established on a survey partaken by 13 to 17 year old in
the United States, 90% felt intimidated by trends and media to be sleek, with more than 60% routinely

depicted in the books, China considerably restricts its citizen s rights to speech and the press. In
Legend, the people must be careful of what they say, as it could bring them serious consequences. For
example, after Day is executed according the government, talk of him living spreads extremely
quickly but only in the shadows, as it was dangerous if the government overheard; the person could be
locked up or even worse. Earlier, when June spread news about the Arcadia bank, she sent out scouts,
one per sector, to talk about giving Day plague medicine if he comes to the ten second place. The

Leonardo Da Vinci, the Epitome of the Italian Renaissance...
Florence, the shelter for artists in need of wealthy patrons to give them an opportunity to rise to fame,
was the center of innovation and creativity in the Italian Renaissance. This renowned city was famous
for supplying some of the best artists in the world and for creating the some of the world s most
treasured art. Leonardo da Vinci, possibly one of the greatest painters in the world, was born in
Florence and lived his adulthood in Florence, the essence and heart of the Italian Renaissance.

Leonardo also used the arts and science hand in hand as was the humanist philosophy. Humanism also
led to Leonardo s study of the human anatomy in order to have a greater understanding of the human
body and to portray them more accurately in his work. Leonardo went as far as defying the Roman
Catholic Church to dissect corpses for his work. He studied nature and anatomy for hours on end to
produce graphic paintings that were used as manuals. Which leads to a second point, Leonardo da
Vinci was a secular person. He was a lefty that at the time was seen as the devil s work and he
continued to use his left hand, even though he became ambidextrous. His peculiar and distinguished
portraits also demonstrate Leonardo s perceptive endeavor towards aesthetics . Though Leonardo s
work is primarily Christian themed or related, he boldly created masterpieces that were pagan or non
religious in nature. This also shows the gradual change of mind of people from the Renaissance from
extremely religious and conservative to slightly more liberal. Leonardo broke free from what was the
standard norm and religious asceticism as was the case with many other artists. He believed in
discovery and that life was worth living now. Leonardo revolutionized styles of painting. He rebelled
against the customary oils and used vibrant colors of tempera to create his masterpieces. He was
renowned for his famous backgrounds and detailed

  • 2. Self Reflection Coming into a college writing course, I did not expect it to be easy. Throughout high school essays were very easy to write due to teachers cutting way too much slack and handing out easy grades. Writing has always been difficult for me, but I feel this is because I have not been challenged yet to demonstrate my full writing ability. I had yet to develop my own voice as a writer. Throughout this course, I was met with many challenges to bring out the true writer inside of me and because of this, I was ultimately able to grow as a writer. The essays that I have written throughout the WRC 1013 course demonstrate that I have developed better annotation skills, communication skills and personal responsibility skills; however, I still need to improve in proofreading and learning how to receive more revisions from my peers. After going through my essays, one self reflection throughout my papers I was able to gather was my growth in developing good annotation throughout my chosen sources. For example, in my first paper Behind the Screen VS. The Real World , my annotation and gathering information from sources was very poor. This is shown in the essay where I completely stated the opposite of what Rita Dove was trying to say in her piece Loose Ends . I state that, As you can see, this is one of many reasons as to how so much screen time can have a negative influence on people which is what Rita Dove is implying in her article ( Behind the Screen Vs. The Real World 2). This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pessimism And Fears Of Ezra Pound s Brother Wasp Song Moreover, readers should remember the fact that Ezra Pound wrote that while he was in a cage as Pisa, he was arrested for treason. Therefore, the poems he wrote in the cage, sometimes show his losses, his internal conflicts, pessimism and fears: DAKRUON in Greek means weeping. Here, he clearly expresses his fears that he won t be able to see Giudecca (an island and canal in Venice), Ca Foscari (a Venetian palace, on the Grand Canal), and Desdemona (the Palazzo Contarini Fasan on the Grand Canal was sometimes called this). Immediately after, watching Brother Wasp building, Ezra Pound seems to be fascinated. Despite the fact that Brother Wasp is never thought as an important creature in human world, it is as important as human beings, in fact it may be more important because Pound believes that it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Observing Brother Wasp, Pound also feels fascinated by the perfection he saw, and brings his own work to halt: and that day I wrote no further. In the next stanza, Pound extracts from a poem named The Peacock which was published in Poetry, May 1914 was written by Yeats (Terrell 462). Yeats who wanted to be away from London for a while, asked Pound to be his secretary. In the stanza Wordsworth refers to the volumes which Pound was supposed to read as a part of his secretarial duties because Yeats eyes were weak (Terrell 462). Reflective Essay On Infection Control In The Hospital Academic Literacy: Reflective essay 17 Aug. 14 Gillian van Aardt 214097226 Infection Control: In the hospital or clinical environment infection control must be exercised for the better health of the patient and to avoid exposure to the healthcare worker. Infection is the establishment and growth of a pathogen inside the human body. Infection control is thus the management of these infections to prevent injury to the patient resulting in disease. In the diagnostic ultrasound department, the good use of infection control is critical to avoiding contamination from patient to patient and to the sonographer because of the close proximity to each other and repeated use of medical equipment. In diagnostic medical sonography, the sonographer is very close to the patient physically which provides a gateway for infection to spread from the sonographer to the patient and vice versa. It is thus important not to go to work sick for the patient and their own health. For millions of less fortunate around the world, the answer to those questions is no. Knowing this is true, can you continue to go about your day and claim to be a moral and ethical person? In order to obtain the greatest pleasure for the greatest number of people, it is clear that you in order to uphold your moral duty; you must contribute to those experiencing poverty. When applying this concept to the consequentialist theory of utilitarianism, it is important to first examine the difference between act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. As Mosser explains, act utilitarianism tells us that we must question what single act would generate the greatest good. Whereas, rule utilitarianism evaluates the actions themselves and determines what would produce an outcome that institutes the greatest good. (2013 sec. 6.1) From an act utilitarian standpoint, say you had a hundred dollars to spend lavishly. If you purchased the designer shirt you have been looking at for weeks, you would definitely be happy, you would make the person selling the shirt happy, and you would make the company making the shirt happy. Yet, if you were to give the same hundred dollars to charity and it fed a family for a week, gave them new clothing, the medicine they needed, and better shelter this action would outweigh your pleasure from the shirt you purchased. Militarism was used for building a strong military and in order for that country to have its interests dominate the government. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were many people who worked together to come up with the present theory of creation. Edwin Hubble, Arno Penzias, Robert Wilson and Alan Guth all contributed greatly to the formation of the Big Bang theory. Edwin Hubble used his large telescope to see far away stars and galaxies. He knew that the elements in the stars reflected back specific colors, and you could tell what a star was made of by its color ? DNA?. Hubble noticed that this pattern had been slightly shifted to the red side of the spectrum, otherwise called a red shift. He knew, based on the Doppler effect, that a red shift was caused by the stretched wavelengths of an object moving away from a point. If the galaxies he had observed had shifted to the red side then it meant that they were moving away from Earth. He also discovered that the galaxies were moving away from each other, as well. With these observations in mind, Hubble announced that the universe was expanding. He then came to this syllogism: If the universe is expanding, then at one point it was smaller. The result of his postulations was the Big Bang theory. Another mystery of the universe was the Cosmic Background Radiation (CBR). CBR is made up of photons throughout the universe that are floating for no apparent reason in space. For one, anxiety was developed in an environment where there were many actual dangers, such as predators, poisonous plants as well as many other threats that were constantly in the human environment. Humans, as well as other animals in this environment, would probably benefit more from developing mechanisms that would cause them to avoid taking unnecessary risks to dangerous phenomenon, or to take proper precautions when doing so, such as traveling in groups for protection. For example, humans may have developed anxiety towards being out in the dark because it led to a higher likelihood for those humans to survive until they are able to reproduce, and that children are anxious of monsters in the dark for the purpose of protection against actual predators that would devour people and end their bloodlines if they wandered off alone. One can argue that the smugglers are responding to unfair tariffs that prevent the rule of law because they as importers have to a tax that domestic producers do not have to pay. If the rule of law has been established so tariffs are small, and fair, then the argument is flawed. Negative effects on the rule of law caused by the tariff will be smaller than the negative effect on the rule of law when the law does not apply equally to everyone, and smugglers bribe official to successfully import their goods so when the rule of law is well established, smuggling undermines it. When a country does not have a well established rule of law, then smuggling can help created a strong De Facto rule of law by encouraging equitable societal conventions. If tariffs are sufficiently high, and importation or exportation bans are comprehensive, then people stop applying the government s rules and in turn they create a new set of societal conventions that people adhere too. When this happens, the rule of law is strengthen because smugglers avoid stifling tariffs, and the rules are applied more equitably to foreign producers, and domestic ... Willy Loman In Willy Of A Salesman Willy Loman is trapped in his life, often being suffocated by the things around him, but what is really trapping him in these bricks and windows, bricks and windows is himself. Willy is trapping himself from achieving success. In his head, success is thought as the same by everyone else in the society, to be rich, have kids, and a house. The reason why Willy himself can t achieve it, is because of the things in his life happening around him that makes his mind think differently. For example, his two sons. Willy had thought highly of them back when they were younger, especially Biff because they were both hotshots at their high school. Even Biff admits that his dad pressured him to much to do well in school, which led him to getting nowhere in life saying Biff: I stole myself out of every good job since high school! Willy: And whose fault is that? Biff: And I never got anywhere because you blew me so full of hot air I could never stand taking orders from anybody! That s whose fault it is! Willy: I hear that! Linda: Don t, Biff! (131). This conversation Willy had with Biff had changed his mindset on how he raised his child, he once thought he was motivating his sons but it ended up making his sons so pressured to not end up doing anything with their life. When Willy had come home from a business trip to see his sons broke and jobless not even achieving success themselves, it had ruin Willy s success as well, wanting his children to exceed in life. ... • 26. Human Smuggling And Human Trafficking Human smuggling is defined as the act of facilitating, transporting or aiding the illegal entry of a person or persons across an international border, deliberately evading the country s immigration laws. Human trafficking is similar, but not quite the same since the person being trafficked has not given consent, while smuggling is under an agreement between smuggler and customer. A victim of trafficking is also usually treated as possession to be controlled and exploited ( Human Trafficking Gale ) . Human smuggling and trafficking both have damaging effects and the causality is left with physical, mental and emotional scars. A majority of the people that are being affected are migrants from Central America or residents of the Mexican highlands hoping to get work on farms or construction sites in the U.S. Being smuggled across the border is very problematic. Not only because there is a high risk of being caught, but if they are able to make it across they are generally unable to pay for food, transportation and often don t speak English.( Dying to Leave. ) Victims of trafficking are primarily young children or women whose purpose is to either be used as slave labor or some sort of sexual exploitation like prostitution. Human smuggling and trafficking is such an important issue to resolve because it s a violation of human rights, a form of organized crime, undermines human safety and even threatens development prospects in many regions around the world ( Human Trafficking. ) ... The first example shows this type of boasting when Themba, Pano and Sibusiso use skinny jeans to talk about physical differences within the group. The article explores the implications of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Medicaid and Children`s Health Insurance Program Provisions, and Community Living Assistance, Services and Support Act. The program aimed to increase the number of the insured people and the number of the people accessing basic healthcare in the US. The inclusion of the economically challenged in the care program stimulated the need for reduced contribution to the model. The decreased contribution to the program translated to decreased payments of the services offered in the clinics by the insurer. The idea of Enlightenment filtered its way into society and was became institutionalized. The second point to contrast against the traditional Christian interpretation of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah is that the destruction happens because of the non consensual aspect of the narrative. The men of the city were pressuring Lot, as it says in verse 9, to give these men, or angels, who were under Lot s protection, up so that they could, essentially, commit gang rape upon them. Lot was so fearful of the violence and rape that the men intended to bring upon them that he became desperate. An example of not achieving justice in this area is if a divorcing mother claims that her ex husband is abusive and her husband should not gain any sort of custody of her children; if the mother does not have any evidence to back this up, her abusive ex partner may gain custody of their children and the mother doesn t. In Marie Lu s Legend and Andrea White s Surviving Antarctica: Reality TV 2083, one can conclusively recognize the striking resemblance between the novel and the modern government of the People s Republic of China. The seemingly picturesque landscapes often obscure the reality that the Chinese government often oppresses freedoms of expression, violates basic human rights, give the population little control over the government and its rulers, and controls most of the country s education and news. As in many preset day governments, and the governments depicted in the books, China considerably restricts its citizen s rights to speech and the press. In Legend, the people must be careful of what they say, as it could bring them serious consequences. For example, after Day is executed according the government, talk of him living spreads extremely quickly but only in the shadows, as it was dangerous if the government overheard; the person could be locked up or even worse. Earlier, when June spread news about the Arcadia bank, she sent out scouts, one per sector, to talk about giving Day plague medicine if he comes to the ten second place.
