Theme Of Identity In Othello
Othello s Identity, Morals, and Acceptance
Othello is perceived as one whom is lost in the novel. Caryl Phillps retells the Shakespeare s
Othello. In Nature of Blood by revisiting Shakespeare s Othello, Phillips focuses on discrimination,
identity and desire of home through interwoven stories. The novel discusses Othello s past and
present situation upon his arrival in Venice. The theme of acceptance is prominent throughout the
novel. Othello s character deteriorates as he struggles with his identity and the notion of home.
Othello is a general in the service of Venice. He is examined in the Shakespeare play as
courageous, noble qualities, trustworthy. It is obvious to feel a degree of sympathy for Othello
because he is considered an other . He is a man that is willing to accept that he is racially different,
as he seems to recognize his status. I tend to sympathize with Othello because he easily influenced,
insecure, and a benevolent heart for Desdemona. Othello relies heavily upon engaging with the
Venetian culture and his identity as the military general. The two stories draw parallel to each other
because Othello s identity is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article uses three major concepts to explain Othello s struggle. The author discusses Black
European Success as a reference to the book European tribe. He explains that Othello tragedy
began when he started to forget he was black. The author describes Othello as white mask tucking
black skin away in shame (Calbi 5). Othello is oppressed from the outsider and desires to be
accepted into the Venetian culture. The Ghost of Strangers are traumatic and messy memories that
cannot assimilate entirely. Ghost of strangers always arrive at a different time throughout the
novel. The notion of home resides in the imaginative gap between desire. Home is a place where
one s feels welcome. It is equivalent to the marginalization of a host of

Analysis Of The Cradle Will Rock And William Randolph Hearst
Although Hearst denounced the corruption amongst capitalists of his own stature, regardless of his
own tarnished name, a recently uncovered letter from Berlin to Hearst proves his collusion with
federal investigators commissioned by congress in the hunt for communist infiltration in
Hollywood and the entertainment industry. The letter claims that Hearst s people have the
complete assurance from [their] friends in Washington that the result of the investigation made by
them ... of the motion picture industry is available to [them] ... This should be extremely valuable
(History). Furthermore, Hearst used his Yellow Press to push allegations of communist activity in
Roosevelt created government agencies, among the accused agencies, the Federal Theatre Project.
In his attacks on Hollywood and the Federal Theatre Project, Hearst was driven by selfish and
possibly personal ulterior motives. Between the Federal Theatre Project, Hollywood, and William
Randolph Hearstexists one very crucial connection, Orson Welles(Allen, Carmichael). The Boy
Wonder entertainer, who at 21 years old directed the groundbreaking play The Cradle Will Rock ,
which criticized public figures just like Hearst. But it isn t the production of this play that brought
young Welles ever promising career to an abrupt halt, to this William Randolph Hearst is
responsible. It was not uncommon in 1920 s and 30 s film and literature to allude to the
ostentatious capitalist figures of the times. Figures like

The Water Systems At Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, And Mckinney...
Our study determined how detrimental pet activity is on the environment, more specifically the
water systems at Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, and McKinney Falls. My hypothesis was the if there is
human and pet activity near water ways, there will be an increase in algae boom and chlorophyll a
concentration because bacteria body material, and feces of the dog affects the water s health. Our
results did not agree with our hypothesis because Chlorophyll a concentration was higher at
McKinney Falls, where there was the most pet activity, and lower at Bulls Creek, even though pets
were allowed also. Additionally, the Wild Basin, where there were no pets allowed, had samples
with an unexpectedly high chlorophyll a concentration compared to the samples from Bulls Creek.
Other factors including canopy cover, and urban runoff could have also altered water quality.
I infer that the water quality was affected more by other factors. The two sites with about the same
amount of human activity were McKinney Falls State Park and Bulls Creek. On the other hand,
Wild Basin swimming is not allowed. Our results showed that the order from greatest to least
amount of nitrate and phosphorous concentration was Bulls Creek, McKinney Falls, and Wild
Basin at the lowest. Hence, because Bulls Creek was had the high amounts of human activity and
nitrate and phosphorous levels, this relates
Moreover, urban runoff highest at Bulls Creek, which has parking lots, highways, and buildings
nearby, and also houses

The Real-Life Counterparts of 1984 s Oceania Essay
Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin are household names, but what about the more obscure individuals
Muammar Qaddafi, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong un? George Orwell used 1984 as a prediction of
what could happen if the fascism in Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia persisted. The dystopian,
fascist government that exists in 1984 resembles the governments in the real life, modern day
countries of Libya, China, and North Korea. The governmentin Orwell s Oceania is fascist, causing
citizens like Winston and Julia to hate the government. O Brien explains the future of Oceania s
government to Winston, when he says: If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping

In the following passage, O Brien explains the comparison between Oceania s government and
the governments of the past that resemble theirs, We are different from all the oligarchies of the
past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves,
were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close
to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives (Orwell
236). O Brien says that what differentiates Big Brother from the Nazis is that Big Brother knows
its intent. Paraphrasing what O Brien tries to convey, it can be stated that even though the Nazis
killed millions of innocent civilians, as did the Russian communists, they were not as horrible
as Big Brother because they did not understand that they were wrong. O Brien states that Big
Brother has cupidity for power and no other motivation to be fascist. To compare, in the book
Libya and Qaddafi by Don Lawson, Lawson says of Qaddafi: Today there is little doubt in most
Western observers minds that Qaddafi is very much his own person, taking orders from no one
and wanting only what he believes best for his country. This, of course, can be an admirable
quality. But it can have a dark side as well. Adolf Hitler was also his own person and a fierce
nationalist, but the methods he used to attain his goals resulted not only in the deaths of millions of

Join Or Die Summary
In the photo titled Join, or Die , each of the eight cut pieces of the snake are labeled with
abbreviations. By looking at the various abbreviations and knowing what each one stands for, one
can conclude that each of the segments of the snake symbolize the early American colonies. The
snake is separated in pieces to show that the colonies were not yet unified. The phrase Join or die
is stating that the colonies need to unite in order to be strong during the French and Indian war.
When each piece of the snake, or colonies, is cut off, the snake cannot survive. When the pieces are
put together, the snake, or the colonies united, can survive and flourish during a time of great need.

Their differences made them wary of one another. In Unity and Identity of the American Colonies,
Deanna K states that Many of the colonies were envious or suspicious of each other, which
delayed colonial unity. Though there was a delay, the photo convinced the colonies to unite and
present a unified front against the French and Indian. The creator of this photo is most likely
someone who had an influential position and whose word was trusted by the colonies. This is clear
because the person who created the photo made a difference and influenced the colonies to unify.
During the time period in which this photo was created, the mid 1700s, the most influential
people in America were usually, if not always, white, upper class males. This is because females
and people of different races did not yet have the same rights and power that white upper class
men did. From this fact, it can be inferred that the creator of the photo was also a whiten upper
class male. This white man clearly valued the American colonies and their success, which is why he
created this photo to convince the colonies to

Rhinovirus Inducing Wheezing And Asthma Exacerbation
Rhinovirus Inducing Wheezing And Asthma Exacerbation In Children
A respiratory viral infection plays a major role in important aspects of asthma and its exacerbation;
which is nearly associated for about 80% of overall respiratory condition. Viral pathogen associated
with wheezing includes Human Rhinovirus (HRV), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV),
Parainfluenza, and coronavirus (Busse Lemanske. 2010).
Rhinovirus is associated with common colds that may cause sore throat, sinus infection, ear
infection and to some degree of bronchiolitis and pneumonia (American Academy of Pediatrics.
2015). This type of cold can happen at any time of the year but most common during winter or
spring. The goal of managing Rhinovirus is to prevent exacerbation in children, preventing the
disease excludes the ability of the exacerbating asthma for fatal outcome.
The purpose of the paper is to critically assess and manage using recently published guidelines on
predicting asthma exacerbation in children in relation to respiratory viral infection more
specifically to Rhinovirus.
Epidemiology, signs and symptoms of rhinovirus, asthma and asthma exacerbation Asthma is the
most common chronic disorders in all age group, there is about 7.1 million of children each year
were diagnosed with asthma (CDC, 2012). Exacerbation was accounted for about 700,000

The Cloning Of The Sheep

Human Cloning
Cloning of Dolly the Sheep was a first on many fronts. First, it represented the first mammal ever
to be cloned from a somatic cell. It also sets a benchmark on which to evaluate other animal cloning
experiments going forward. Secondly, her cloning was the start of controversy and panic in
regards to animal cloning, as it raised the question of whether scientists would seek to clone
humans too, and the ethics behind such a practice, should it ever be adopted. Over the past few
years, animal cloning has yielded remarkable results, and this has given scientists hope of a possible
human clone over the next few years (University of Utah Health Sciences n.p.). When such reports
of cloning success appear in the media, only few attempts works. However, for every success story,
there are many other cloning experiments that have dismally failed. Out of 100 cloning
experiments, less than three, at the maximum, yield viable offsprings (Harper n.p.). Even for these
few success stories about cloning, problems often emerge later, as the animal develops towards
adulthood. Although there is limited scientific explanations for the cause of such high failure rates,
most researchers believe that it is an indication of the technical hurdles facing cloning experiments.
The important lesson that can be drawn from the cloning of animals is the likely influences in case
humans are cloned. While a growing

Escape Extinction And Its Effects On Society
The advent of functional analysis (Iwata, Dorsey, Slifer, Bauman, Richman, 1982/1994) and
functional assessments (Dunlap Kern, 1993) have provided behavior analysists with great ability to
provide effective treatment for their clients. One common topic of research is the treatment of
escape maintained behaviors. Multiple treatments have been established to treat escape maintained
behavior. Escape extinction is often utilized in the treatment of behaviors that are maintained
through the removal of demands. Escape extinction involves no longer allowing the delay, removal,
or avoidance of demands contingent on the occurrence of the problem behavior (Iwata, Pace,
Kalsher, Cowdery, Cataldo, 1990). Escape extinction provides some advantages as it is easily
compatible with other treatments, increasing the effectiveness of those treatments. However,
escape extinction may have some disadvantages including that it may be difficult for those
providing treatment to do so with high levels of integrity due to the effort involved in doing so. If
treatment is not implemented consistently it may make it more difficult to implement extinction in
the future (McConnachi Carr, 1997). There may also be an increase in the targeted response and
aggression following extinction (Lerman, Iwata, Wallace, 1999). While extinction is effective
there are associated side effects that are incompatible with wide spread use in many public settings
such as classrooms. There is a need for

Alone Together By Sherry Turrkle Analysis
How many people can tell they live without any technology for their daily lives? Now, people
live in the society where they cannot communicate without technology. In the modern society, a
newly invented technology gets a power to control and lead the trends. According to New York
Post, Apple reported that newly launched iPhone X, which has been sold at the price of $999,
sparked a record quarterly revenue of $88.3 billion and pushed the cost of an average iPhone to
$796. That is 15% above the average price a year earlier (Vega, 2018). Through this short two
sentences, it is detected that how people are enthusiastic about technology s development and
transition. As technology has been dramatically developed during past few decades, people... Show

In her essay, Turkle takes about the use of robots and technologies, and how those have been
impacted the development of human beings. Alone Together can be divided into two parts. The
first half of the book is about the development of social robots and how those robotic technologies
are applied in human life. Turkle shares the results of the research of how robotic toys, such as
Furby and Tamagotchi, affect children and adolescents. Through some examples and historical
events of technology, she explains how the robot has been developed and enhanced for people,
especially younger generation, started to think the robot not much as machine, but more as friends.
The definition of human changed throughout the decades: while human was special because they
can think, after thinking computer had been launched and disseminated, human became special
because they can feel . On the other hand, the second half of the book is all about social networks
formed on the Internet, and how human beings are exposed to the online world. Turkle explores the
increasing dependence on the online world and discusses about how human beings disentangle their
lives in the real world and the online world. She also emphasizes the communication between each
other. Increasing in using digital devices to communicate, people lose personal connections
between each other and are connected through voice; it means that people lose voice to associate

Monogamy In American Culture
In American culture, relationships, commitment, and sex are synonymous with monogamy.
However, this is not always the case. Monogamy is defined by Merriam Webster as the state or
practice of being married to only one person at a time or of having only one sexual partner during
a period of time. Alternatively, polyamory is defined as the state or practice of having more than
one open romantic relationship at a time.
The word polyamory derives from both Greek (poly) and Latin (amory) roots and can be directly
translated to mean many loves. This is an idea of which popularity has risen a great deal in
mainstream media over the last couple of decades.
To the average American, monogamyrepresents a normal part of life. Children grow up ... Show

It has often been emphasized in research that poly love involves hard work along with a
dedication to each partner. Polyamory, like monogamy, is rooted in love. This love may be
expressed emotionally, spiritually, sexually, or all three. Several researchers have stressed that
poly love is based on the values of freedom, honesty, and commitment. This is relevant because it
gives a new perspective on how non monogamous relationships can be arranged. The tendencies to
rely on deceit or lies to cover up infidelity are no longer an issue. However, other issues can arise
involving the communication between partners. One issue that is often a point of contempt for
many people is

Taking a Look at Emerging Churches
Before plodding full steam ahead, it would behoove us to pin down some important definitions and
qualifiers. First the term emerging church. In 2006, at a lecture at Westminster Seminary, Scot
McKnight proffered that, there is no emerging church ...it is a movement, or a conversation. This
statement, now nearly a decade old was made in an attempt to clarify to his audience that emerging
/emergent в‰ denomination . This clarified distinction still stands; however as time has gone by,
the aforementioned conversation as well as the term emergent itself have experienced some
emergence. Indeed, there are now some churches that would willingly self identify (or allow
others to take the liberty of identifying them) in such a manner. More often than not, however, they
would also (and preferably, I might add) identify themselves as missional . (More on that in a bit).
Emerging churches have several characteristics that make them similar to one another in some
respects. But first, let s discuss what they are not. They are not a theological movement, and
therefore do not hold in common a defined set of doctrinal beliefs or confessional statements. They
are, however, theological in the sense that they are all about having conversation (as they like to
put it) about Christian faith, mission and praxis in the context of the core classical Christian creeds.
In true post modernist style, they are willing to discuss the relevance, veracity and need for

A Comparison Of Willy Loman And Death Of A Salesman
Arthur Millers Death of a Salesman is considered to be both a playwright s masterpiece, and a

Zoos On Animals And Zoos
Zoos have provided shelter for endangered animals for hundreds of years. Zoos have supported
and aided the twenty one percent of mammals, twelve percent of the bird species, and thirty one
percent of all amphibian to adapt to a new habitat, stated the website The Amphibian Extinction
Crisis. A golden hawk was rescued, it was shot down and its shoulder got dislocated on the fall

People say that animals are being mistreated in zoos. Later that month, a family of four lions was
killed because, The zoo had to put down the old lions and their young offspring because of the
natural structure and behavior of the lion pride, the Copenhagen Zoo said in a prepared statement.
They murdered a family of innocent lions and they claimed it was due to the the fact that they
were going to bring a new lion and that lion would kill the lion family. How are we saving
endangered animals if zoos are murdering them? We might as well leave them in the wild, at
least they will die in peace. The Copenhagen Zoo could have sent them to a new facility. Why
would zoos reject the chance to save a new life? The cubs would have adjusted to the new alpha
male. Actually why not reject the new lion? Why take more than you can handle if you re going
to murder them? Zoos are meant to be homes and a sanctuary for animals. But is that really the
case, according to the article Ten Facts about Zoos it states, A CAPS study found that at least
7,500 animals and possibly as many as 200,000 animals in zoos are surplus at any one time. So
what that means that they execute any animals that have overpopulated. If zoos are over

The Nature Of Human Nature In George Eliot s Silas Marner
In George Eliot s Silas Marner there is no character who exemplifies the realism of human nature
more than Godfrey Cass. The very fabric of Godfrey s characterization begs for analysis.
Through Godfrey s actions, or lack of them, and the resulting consequences of his decisions,
Silas Marner becomes a novel that draws a discussion of what good naturedness means in
regards to action versus passivity. Godfrey s passivity is the driving force of the novel and in
true Eliot fashion, it is his passivity that makes him neither a victim, nor a villain, but puts him
somewhere in between. Put forth as a fine, open faced, good natured young man, Godfrey
immediately contrasts his brother Dunstan, a spiteful jeering fellow, who seemed to enjoy his
drink the more when other people went dry (Eliot 23). This automatically pits one against the
other simply put, as good versus bad. Dunstan mocks him for his nature, saying, I m so easy and
good natured. You ll take any trouble for me, essentially throwing Godfrey s most highly praised
virtue back in his face and further cementing their previous categorization (Eliot 25). Godfrey is
held in high esteem after this initial introduction. Furthermore, the condition of Godfrey Cass is
one of whom had felt the keen point of sorrow or remorse and whom thanks to their native human
kindness even riot could never drive into brutality (Eliot 29). According to his condition, Godfrey
has weathered the conditions that have caused him sorrow and remorse, rather than having caused
the conditions in the first place. This sets up Godfrey s rationalization behind his passivity, and
allows for the notion that simply possessing a good nature is a good enough excuse to leave his
decisions to chance. Consequently, after leaving such decisions to chance, the hesitating Godfrey
finds that his own downfall unequivocally rests on his own shoulders (Eliot 26). Godfrey s
hesitating and passive nature is more prevalent in none other than his denial of his infant daughter,
Eppie. With the introduction of his secret wife and child, Molly and Eppie respectively, Godfrey s
good naturedness takes its greatest hit. While Godfrey Cass was taking draughts of forgetfulness

Dyslexia and life
For a long time, dyslexia has been causing many humans, especially children, to have learning
difficulties. The World Federation of Neurologists define dyslexia as, a disorder in children who,
despite conventional classroom experience, fail to attain the language skills of reading, writing, and
spelling commensurate with their intellectual abilities ( Dyslexia, 2013). Sometimes the letter m
might look like w, and the number 3 might look like 8; dyslexia basically makes it harder for
people to improve their language abilities. This is the behavior I wish to change because of the

Students studying at Yale University have discovered that defects in a gene, DCDC2, are related
to problems in reading skills. The DCDC2 gene (when it is not supposed to) goes into contact
with KIAA0319, which is known as a dyslexic gene ( What is Dyslexia? 2013). None of these
hypotheses have been proven yet. Anyway, dyslexics can have difficulties understanding every time
they begin to read. The number of times dyslexia occurs or the time of the day it occurs cannot be
told; whenever those people are reading, the language complications can be seen. Two main theories
have been present regarding the reasons for why this behavior occurs, which are the cerebellar
theory and the magnocellular theory. We have proof that dyslexic people cannot process visual
concepts (which makes it harder for them to read or write). The magnocellular theory states that
this occurs because there is something wrong with the magnocellular pathways. Magnocellular
pathways are part of the central nervous system, and allow humans to process visual details from
their surroundings. Scientists believe that with these pathways not working, humans obtain
dyslexia and are not able to remember the presented information. On the other hand, the cerebellar
theory says that people who have problems in the cerebellum might become dyslexic. The
cerebellum is basically responsible for human motor control and language. Dysfunctions in the
cerebellum can cause

Music Is A Melting Pot Of Different Cultures
Alexandra Stambaugh
Monmouth University
Professor Wurzbach
MU 217 01
American Music is a melting pot of different cultures, emotions, experiences, and therefore genres.
It is incredible to see how as music evolves and changes with the time, so does The United States.
We are a mixed bag as a country, accepting all different cultures and backgrounds. This has led to
many breakthroughs and innovations in music throughout history. We are all influenced by our
experiences in life and this is no different in the evolution of music in American History. The Blues
was created from African American Slave songs, with lyrics that narrate the hardships of the human
experience at the time. These rhythms and forms carried over and eventually created what is now
Rock and Roll. Over the next five weeks, we will explore and discover five key genres and artists
who are known to specialize in that genre as a way to reconnect with our history and explore the
possibilities for innovation in music in the future.
Week 1 Folk
Folk is a musical style that is very lyrical and meaningful to the listener. Folk music is meant to be
shared with a community and bring people together which is exactly what this program aims to do
with our American Music Series. Folk music is set apart from other genres because it is not written
for a profit but instead it is written to make the audience think about the life experience. Folk music
often has very lyrical phrases that can sometimes

Evidence Based Decision-Making Process
Some of the takeaways from this case I have noted are using the Evidence Based Decision
Making process will help remove all emotions and biases on the decision as we will be using
supporting facts that are accurate to help support generating the best decision possible. In the
Deepwater Horizon Disaster case study, the team members were aware of the well performance
issues as they were happening and informed executives. One of the major takeaways was once they
were notified of the problems with the well s performance, they did not act on the notifications
which resulted in the problems continuing to build up. If the team had taken action when the
irregularities were happening and treated each deviation from the norm as such and had a standard

God s Foolishness Is Better Than Human Wisdom
For God s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God s weakness is stronger than human
strength. Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human
standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish
in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God
chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that
are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in ChristJesus,
who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in
order that, as it is written, Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:25 31
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than
men.Christ on the cross appeared to be weakness in the eyes of people; but that weakness of God
was stronger than men and everything that men could produce. [22] The sign seeking Jews could
not comprehend the mighty sign of the prophet Jonah, enacted before their very eyes; and the
wisdom seeking Greeks could not discern the most profound wisdom in all history, not even after it
had been preached to them! Despite this, however, the rolling centuries have vindicated the truth
which Paul here proclaimed. We have borrowed this subtitle from Barclay, for it accurately

Analysis Of Tom Jones s Mister Pip Essay
The Development of Tension
In Mister Pip, Lloyd Jones explores the ability of the creative space of literature to mediate
transformations of culture and identity. Set during the Bougainville civil war in the early 1990s,
the island s sole white inhabitant, Mr Watts reopens a dilapidated schoolhouse and reads Great
Expectations to the village children. Written in the first person retrospective narrative style, we
witness how the villagers are caught in the military conflict just as inexorably as Matilda is caught
between the tension between her incongruous teacher, Mr Watts, and her fiercely religious mother,
Dolores. They battle for the control over the mind and soul of Matilda, developing the theme of
ignorance versus education. The consequent tension between Dolores and Matilda illustrates the
theme of adolescence, of challenging parental beliefs and affirming one s values.
With all foreign contact withdrawn from the besieged Bougainville, Matilda becomes infatuated
with the world of Great Expectations, whose cultural unfamiliarity is exemplified through the
animosity Dolores bears toward Mr Watts. Mr Watts brings new, Western ideas to the classroom
and encourages the use of creativity and imagination to seek escapism and exposure through
literature, giving us all another room to lounge around in the room of the mind. Matilda becomes
riveted by the adventures of Pip in Victorian England London, a city whose contours soon become
more real than her own landscape. I

The Gross Clinic Painting Analysis
In this essay I will be depicting and comparing two of the most well known anatomical paintings
of all time. The first painting is The Gross Clinic by Thomas Eakins an oil painting canvas from
1875 drew in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The second painting is The Anatomy Lesson by
Rembrandt is also an oil paintingcanvas but drew in 1632 the Dutch Baroqueera. Both paintings
depict surgeons at work dissecting features of dead bodies for experimental studies for groups of
fellow surgeons and students.
Among some of the most famous paintings of the Dutch Baroque era, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr.

In this painting the bright red blood colors from the surgeon s fingers and scalpel, and the
gruesome fresh incision is fascinating, as well as repulsive, and confusing since it is so hard to
read the detailed position of the patient s body. Never the less some viewers admired Eakins s
precision of detailed composition, color, and praised his convincing creation space as well as
form, although many were revoked by what was considered inartistic and horribly disgusting
realism. Where as in The Anatomy Lesson it has been pointed out several times that this
painting does not actually depict the dissection taking place in real life. There are many details
that point this out. For one in the scene there does not seem to be a crowd in the anatomy theater
as we would normally see in a real depiction. The second point is that in all of Amsterdam
anatomy lessons there is an abundance of the lack of instruments for the dissection taken place,
also there is an absence of the preparator who has the task of preparing the body for the lesson
that will be taking place. This was considered to be a low end and bloody task, which Dr. Tulp
would not be expected to take care of. Finally the dissection itself is very unrealistic in which this
is before any available preservation methods for the dead, the abdomen, which were most perishable

Dorothy L. Sayers’ Gaudy Night Essay
Dorothy L. Sayers Gaudy Night
When Gayle Wald wrote, Sayers s career writing detective stories effectively ends with Gaudy
Night (108), she did not present a new argument, but continued the tradition that Gaudy Night does
not center on the detective story. Barbara Harrison even labeled Dorothy Sayers s Lord Peter
/Harriet Vane books, Strong Poison, Gaudy Night, and Busman s Honeymoon, as deliriously happy
ending romances (66). The label stretches the definition of a romance, but Gaudy Night indeed has
very little to do with crime. Sayers encrypted the real story within her detective novel. This story
behind the story narrates love and human relationships. In fact, the crimes in Gaudy Night only

We usually think of crypts as graves or coded messages, similar to the letter in Have His
Carcasse. The notion of a crypt, however, contains a deeper psychological meaning. Crypts deal
with the ideas of introjection and incorporation. These concepts identify the alternative ways in
which the psyche handles trauma. When the psyche introjects a trauma, the trauma melds into
the subconscious. If the psyche successfully assimilates the trauma, it unites with the rest of the
psyche, much like a cube of ice (the trauma) melting in a glass of water (the psyche).
Incorporation occurs when trauma embeds itself into the psyche, but remains separate and,
therefore, separable. If we return to the idea of the psyche as a glass of water, incorporation
resembles what happens when a Ping Pong ball (the trauma) drops into a glass of water. The
ball remains a lump in the psyche. Jacques Derrida wrote about the crypt sealing the loss of the
object, but also marking the refusal to mourn . . . I pretend to keep the dead alive, intact, safe
(save) inside me, but it is only to refuse, in a necessarily equivocal way, to love the dead as a
living part of me, dead save in me, through the process of introjection, as happens in so called
normal mourning ( Foreword 17). The tomb stands then as an incorporation of the trauma of death.
We physically mark the place of rest as a mirror of our inability to assimilate that trauma

Summary Of A Passage To India And A Passage To India
Despite having drastically different perspectives, E.M. Forster and Mulk Raj Anand display a
common disdain for British imperialism and racism while sharing in a struggle to fully capture the
complexities of the British Raj while still spreading their intended message in their novels, A
Passage to India and Untouchable.
Untouchable and A Passage to Indiawere not written solely for entertainment. The authors shared
purpose for writing the stories is more important than the stories themselves. Forster was largely
involved in the politics of imperialism, having worked with the International Red Cross in
Alexandria for four years and written a pamphlet that condemned the colonization of Egypt by
Britain (Meyers 238). Later in life he would write only essays, criticisms, biographies, and
broadcasts with the intention of sharing his liberal views (Parry 253). He was clearly motivated
intensely by his political views. When referring to his novel, Forster said, The political side of it
was an aspect I wanted to express... It had some political influence it caused people to think of
the link between India and Britain and to doubt if that link was altogether of a healthy nature
(Meyers 238). Anand was just as passionate in his desire to share his political opinions. In the
words of R.K. Dhawan, Untouchable has no story interest; it is just an impassioned plea for
social cause (102). In writing Untouchable, Anand s goal to shine light upon the trials of the
Indian far surpasses the significance enjoying the plot on its own. Each story is carefully crafted
to influence the reader s opinion on imperialism, and efforts to amuse the reader can be traced back
to the authors desire to share their political viewpoints. These shared convictions come from writers
who viewed the British Raj from opposite sides, Anand as an Indian, and Forster as a British
man. Anand was a resident of Punjab, a hub for Indian rebellion, and a massacre where hundreds
of Indains were killed took place in his hometown (Harrex 36). He experienced the trauma of the
Indian people personally. For him, colonialism is something he has endured. He was also arrested
and beaten brutally by the police, having been left with dark marks on his back

Relationship Between Agamemnon And Beowulf
The Epic Journey of a Relationship
Many things can contribute to the greatness of a hero. A person can be determined as a hero by the
brave things they have done or how their actions have impacted others. In The Iliad by Homer,
translated by Richmond Lattimore, the Greek king Agamemnon loses his best warrior, Achilles, who
decides not to fight in the Trojan War. Agamemnon knows that the Greeks will be unable to win the
war without Achilles, whose strength cannot be matched by anyone else. In Beowulf by an
anonymous poet, translated by Burton Raffel, Beowulf is Hrothgar s best chance to defeat Grendel
and avenge the Danes who had previously tried and failed. Achilles and Beowulf can be viewed as
the servants of their kings, since they serve and protect their crown. The two kings reliance on their
servitude emphasize the importance of Achilles and Beowulf, making the relationships between
Achilles and Agamemnon, and Beowulf and Hrothgar similar to each other. The relationships
between Achilles and Agamemnon, and Beowulf and Hrothgar show that kings play an important
role in contributing to the greatness of their servants. The kings rely on their servants heroic
abilities. At the beginning of the story, Achilles is unhappy with Agamemnon because the king took
away his prize for himself. During an argument with Agamemnon, Achilles says, Always the greater
part of the painful fighting is the work of / my hands; but when the time comes to distribute the
booty / yours

Female Power In Patriarchal Relationships In 17th And 18th...

Final Paper
12 May 2016 The progression of Female power in patriarchal relationships in 17th and 18th century
Britain
Women in 17th and early 18th Century Britain were unequally treated, oppressed, and often
dumbfounded by their British male counter parts. They went through ridicule and solely
depended on marrying rich to seize their way up the social totem pole. But has time progressed
we see women gain more independence and even power in a patriarchal society. During this time
period poems such as the works of Sonnet 138 by. Shakespeare (1609), John Dryden s Song from a
marriage Г la mode (1673), Aphra Behns The Disappointment (1680), and Jonathan Swifts A ladies
dressing room (1732), Are a few samples of British literary works that hint at either the struggle,
miss treatment, or even the embarrassment between British men and women during the 17th
century, but ultimately we see a progression in woman independence in relationship. The following

In the poem the man admits that they lie to each other there after he proclaims they both know they
are lying, we both flatter ourselves by lying about each other s faults (Sonnet 138), and ultimately
states that they are staying together. This introduces an interesting dynamic within male and female
relationships in Britain at the time. We see here in a Patriarchal society a male, acknowledging the
fact that he knows his wife is unfaithful to him, is not only calm about it; but says they will stay
together even given the situation. In the Elizabethan era women were known for being severely
punished for adultery. King Henry s wives were even beheaded for doing such. Taking that in
consideration we can see that even the highest class of woman didn t get a pass. Perhaps this poem
indicates a sort of social evolution for the

Personal Note On Family And Family
There are many of ways that I can describe the word family. To me family isn t just only blood,
family is someone who I can count on when times get hard. That person I can count on may not
be a mother, father, brother, or sister. That person may be a teacher, coach, or a friend. Family is
people who want to see someone happy in life; people who loves us and wants to see us make
something out of ourselves. Familyis people who can get together and have a good time and make
memories. The reasons I value family is because there a support group, they show my history
background and stays connected, and finally I benefit from themy life experience.
If I look into the history of the word family, I can see that the meaning changed several times
over the decades. The meanings always tend to relate together in some type of form. Family was
referred to in the Middle French as a group of people living under the same rooftop in 1337. If
you just think about a next door neighbor who lost themy house and you let them stay in your
home. Say if they moved in with you because they were broke and lost themy house. That neighbor
would be considered family. Over a decade later in 1442 1444, the meaning of family change to
people who are related by blood I did have the same blood line as someone else. That is a term we
still use today. Then again around the time 1580 in the Middle French the word is defined is a
group of people related by blood or marriage also a term we use today. That

The Civil Rights Movement And The Civil Rights Movement
The 60 s was a platform for all kinds of cultural revolution. Two of these included the Civil Rights
and anti war Vietnam movements which both emerged at the same time that the Cold War
unfolded. Both of these movements overlapped in numerous ways; they both struggled with the
government trying to silence them to keep an image, with media distortion, not having a clear main
focus, and more. They both related political struggles to domestic ones.
The focus is on two things. The first being the look at the Civil Rights movement under the heat of
the Cold Warand how it affected the movement. The second thing is the anti war Vietnam protests
and how the Civil Rights movement partially contributed to that. It s a look at how both of these
movements were ties from political struggles to domestic struggles. A look at the interactions of
both these movements during their struggles.
The Cold War was a time of high tensions between the Soviet Union and the United Stateswhich
consequently served a purpose in the Civil Rights movement as well. The spotlight directed
towards America forced the government to create a pristine image of America to maintain the
idea that they were capable of being leaders. As Mary L. Dudziak states in Cold War Civil
Rights: Race and the Image of American Democracy, The federal government engaged in a
sustained effort to tell a particular story about race and American democracy: a story of progress, a
story of the triumph of good over evil, a story of

sufferers typically report a definite pattern to their headaches, and they can report what stimuli bring

Scientists suspect that a caffeine withdrawal could be the possible cause of common migraines.
Why? Well, caffeine is a powerful psychoactive drug that is addictive. Caffeine withdrawals
produce all the same symptoms as migraine. Chronic caffeine use causes a number of changes to
the central nervous system. Caffeine use increases the number of some types of serotonin receptors
and some types of adenosine receptors as well.
Adenosine is another neurotransmitter; adenosine strongly inhibits serotonin release. Chronic
caffeine use increases the number of adenosine receptors.(The body is trying to compensate for the
constant presence of caffeine, which occupies and blockades adenosine receptors and thus
interferes with adenosine reception.) When caffeine is withdrawn, however, the chronic caffeine
user is left with too many adenosine receptors. Having too many adenosine receptors is equivalent
to having too much adenosine. As a result, serotonin release is inhibited and this leads to migraine
symptoms.
As you know there are many drugs used against migraine. Many of these drugs contain caffeine, for
good reason: caffeine relieves migraine by reversing caffeine withdrawal. Migraine drugs that
contain caffeine include Fiorinal (40mg caffeine), Fioricet (40mg caffeine), Excedrin (65mg
caffeine), Anacin (32mg caffeine), Cafergot, Norgesic Forte (60mg caffeine), and others.

The major difference according to Jones (2009) is that Whereas equity is about fairness and
focuses on processes, equality compares the distribution of some goods or outcomes between

on what constitutes a just distribution, which treats people equally, whereas equality is about
what the final actual distribution is, requiring that people receive equal amounts. (p. 9). Equity s
main goal is not to make everyone in society equal, but rather to provide fair opportunities to
become equal while equality s main goal is to leave everyone as equal as possible in the end
result. Furthermore, equity advocates for people to not be responsible for the consequences that
they have no control over and promotes fair competition. On the other hand, equality strives to
make everyone equal in society and promotes equal share of resources for people to have equal
outcomes. To sum it up, equality drives on the notion that everyone shall have the same, while

History of Biblical Angels
History of Biblical Angels Throughout history, you will find many religions discuss angels. But
what is an angel? Is it a mythical creature with wings sent to protect you? Some may think so;
others have different thoughts on the matter. But when did talk of angels first occur? Have they
always been around? In this paper, I will attempt to define what an angel is and what they do. I
will also discuss how angels differ between religions, as well as try to pinpoint the origin of
angels. I will explain the similarities and differences between these religions and their ideas of
angels. The term angel is derived from the Greek word angelos , meaning messenger. This word
represents an earlier Hebrew word, mal akh that is also interpreted as the role of messenger or
minister. It is safe to say that many people will regard angels as messengers between Heaven and
earth. In many biblical stories, angels are sending messages. Some messages are announcements of
birth like the ones that were sent to Abraham and to Samson s father. Other messages encourage
actions as the ones did to Elijah and David. In these cases, angels were bringing messages from the
divine world, or Heaven, to men and women in the earthly humanworld. It is believed that the
messages with angels also work in the reversed sense as well; meaning from human being to angel
to God. It is said that the soul speaks to the angel, the angel to the cherub, the cherub to God. This
type of communication would explain the

Critically analyse the key factors involved in translating policy into practice to achieve successful
delivery of health care?
To deliver better care and outcomes, there is a need for evidence based policyto be implemented

Here policy takes an incremental approach where decision makers take current practice as given,
and make small incremental adjustments in that behaviour, resulting in gradual policy change (5).
In the real world, policy making is more complex. In reaction to rational approaches the garbage
can model of decision was developed to remove any assumption of rationality. This asserts that
rational approaches suggest a greater level of intention, comprehension of problems, and
predictability of relations among actors than found in reality (3). Additional elements work against
rational policy making including the cognitive limitation of decision maker to consider all possible
options and foresee all consequences.
Ingram argued that policy problems are not neutral but subjectively identified through a political
exercise based on values, interpretation and the subjectivity of policy makers (6). Pluralist elitist
models recognise the distribution of power and how this affects decision making, proposing that the
power to influence policy is concentrated in the hands of a few (2). The underlying suggestion of
these theories is that policy is not scientifically or rationally constructed, with the conclusion that
implementation attempts are constrained from the start.
Punctuated equilibrium theory outlines that when conditions are right, change

Social Security And Health Insurance Program
At its initiation in 1965, Medicare expected to provide health insurance to Americans age 65 and
older and to younger people with certain disabilities or health conditions. It was a two part plan.
Part A providing payment to the hospital, home health following hospital stays, skilled nursing
facility, and hospice care for the aged and disabled. Part A is paid by payroll deductions with no
premiums for those who contributed. Part B, is an optional medical insurance program for which
enrollees pay a monthly premium. Part B can be used to pay for physician, outpatient hospital,
home health, and other services for the aged and disabled. Although it was considered during the
1930 s as a part of president Roosevelt new deal. It was believed that the inclusion of the plan
could jeopardize the success of social security and hence was not added at that time. President
Truman officially initiated the talks on national health insurance program, but LBJ finally signed it

The Herpes Simplex Virus
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a virus that affects many people in the world. This paper will discuss
the history, taxonomy, structure, and replication of the virus. The common symptoms, treatments,
and vaccinations will also be discussed.
The herpes simplex virus was first mentioned as far back as 400 BC. Hippocrates wrote about
symptoms of lesions. He used the word heparin which means to creep or to crawl. Between 14AD
and 37AD Emperor Tiberius banned kissing from public festivals and ceremonies because he
understood that the disease was passed from person to person. In 1893 Emile Vidal proved that the
herpes simplex virus is transmitted from person to person. The virus was first isolated in 1925 by
Frederic Parker and Robert N. Nye by growing the virus in vive using rabbit s testis cells. The
Herpes simplex virus is commonly known as just herpes.
HSV is part of the family herpetoviridae and the genus simplexvirus. There are two strains of this
virus: HSV1 known as the oral infection and HSV2 known as the genital infection. The structure of
the virus is an enveloped, icosahedral capsid, and single linear double stranded DNA. The capsid
contains dsDNA, О± and ОІ proteins. The О± proteins regulate the reproductive cycle and block
the presentation of antigenic peptides on the host membrane. The ОІ proteins are in charge of the

If you could conduct a study on any psychological question, which would you choose? How
would you conduct this study? Make sure that you identify your hypothesis, and which research
method that you would use. The question I would ask is will the parenting style your parents
practiced determine your choice of parenting style? Are we as children already doomed to
subconsciously repeat our parent s habits? or do we make a decision for ourselves to break the
cycle? I would do a case study and a series of interviews in order to come to a conclusion. 5. Read
Baumrind s three styles of parenting on pages 78 79. Which style of parenting did your
parent(s) use? Provide examples to back up that this was the style they used. What style do you
think you will use if you were to become a parent? How did your parents style influence which
style you will (would) use? As a single mother of three girls, my mother had an authoritarian
style of parenting. she was a no nonsense and don t dare ask why? type of woman. growing up I

The Characteristics Of Artificial Intelligence
One must truly understand what artificial intelligence is in order to assess its usefulness in society.
In the article Artificial Intelligence by Paul Norvig, it states The field of artificial intelligence (AI)
is the science and engineering of machines that act intelligently. (Herzfeld 509). So, what does
Norvig mean when these machines act intelligently? This means that Artificial Intelligencemimics
human intelligence as if it had its own consciousness. Consider this, whenever you perform a
task, for example, sorting colored objects into their matching containers, programmers who
design these Artificial Intelligent machines go through the logical process we do as humans.
So, if someone had a red cube and was looking for its container, one would go through a logical
chronological process. First, one would define the color of the object, red. Then, one would find
out what type of object he or she is holding, cube. Finally, in order to complete the task, sorting
colored objects into their matching containers, one would identify the container that was for red
cubes. This is an example of the logical process regarding Artificial Intelligence. Artificial
Intelligence is difficult to define. There are so many areas in which intelligent machines could
benefit life, a single definition wouldn t fully encompass its capabilities. Noreen L. Herzfeld,
Professor of Theology and Computer Science at College of Saint Benedict, provides an interesting
perspective on what Artificial

4.The conventional approaches of value creation and growth focused business, are often blind to
new approaches that bring substantial benefits by adopting greener and more socially responsible
ways. Authors question whether public policy needs to be called upon, to better regulate business
conduct with societal needs. Six academic articles:
1.In the article Why making money is not enough , Tata et al (2013) argue that maximizing the
profit should not be the primary purpose of the businesses. Businesses need to understand
sustainable development is more important and should be the primary driver. Authors highlight Tata
Group as a good example as Tata primary purpose was to help people and not make money. Authors
highlight what has changed in 20 years after people realized fundamental changes will need to be
made for a sustainable development. Today, some companies are investing into clean technology
but we still haven t done enough to reduce world population. Authors argue a critical need for
economic, social and environmental issues to be considered with new business strategies and future
technologies.

United States Political Thought As A Democracy
United States political thought today as of today is considered a democracy. A democracy is where
the citizens of the United States are eligible to vote for the leaders that represent the country.
Without the drafting of the British documents, such as The Magna Carta and the Petition of Rights
along with the political upheaval of the Glorious Revolution and Enlightenment, America today
would be following the traditional acts of arbitrary monarchical rule. All of these specific times in
history were outcomes of people seeing that absolute monarchies were trouble for the fundamental
rights of the people. Being under an absolute monarchy is similar to being under a dictatorship
which leaves no say in the hand of the people.
The Magna Carta, also known as The Great Charter, was the first step into people receiving the
rights that they deserved. The King of England, King John was forced by his barons to sign the
charter to establish that the monarch was no longer absolute and that the people were
guaranteed a trial by jury and due process of law. King John is considered to be one of the worst
kings in history. He was not in favor of the people, he was in favor of himself. He was such a
greedy King who would penalize any baron who went against his wishes.
In 1206, King John lost some land that he was insistent on getting back. Normandy, Anjou, Maine
and parts of Poitou were no longer under his control. The way he went about it was to harshly raise
the taxes. If the people

Marketing, Micro Marketing And Macro Marketing
Many people think that production of goods and service is important for their life. However, they
don t realize that marketing is a significant process for carrying goods and service from producers
to them. Marketing doesn t only mean to sell products or persuade customers buy goods they
actually don t need. Successful marketingprovides more choices of products and guides a correct
direction for customers to purchase right goods, as result of customer satisfaction. In other words,
customers feel happy and satisfied with goods and services because products meet with customers
needs and expectation. The best result of marketing is customers will continue to visit the stores
they once consumed. So companies will advantageously catch higher customer lifetime value
through a correct process of marketing. Both companies and customers will gain profit because
companies will make a close relationship with customers over a lifetime and customers will get
what they need. There are two types of marketing, micro marketing and macro marketing. Micro
marketing often deals with some activities of individual firms. They make customer satisfaction
and build strong relationship with customers. Product, place, promotion and price are four parts of
marketing mix to satisfy the needs of target customers. Firms create and develop their products in
order to satisfy the needs of customers. For examples, firms provide a service, high quality
products, and warranties and so on. Firms should

Irony In The Rocking-Horse Winner
Winning Death
Titles should give insight into the stories they introduce; however, the use of irony disrupts this
connection. This disruption through use of irony occurs in both The Rocking Horse Winner and
The Lottery . The Rocking Horse Winner by D. H. Lawrence depicts a story about love, luck,
lucre, where a young boy tries to win the affection of his mother but ends up dying as a result. The
Lottery by Shirley Jackson portrays a story about a small town American community who takes part
in an annual lottery in which the winner gets stoned to death by her family and friends. In both
stories the authors use irony as a main literary device. Even though D. H. Lawrence and Shirley
Jackson use different methods of displaying irony in The Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery ,
irony, itself, permeates both stories from beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They use irony in both similar and dissimilar ways. In a similar way, both authors introduce irony
from the very beginning in their titles. The titles The Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery both
imply that someone in the story wins something desirable. However, after reading the stories, one
can clearly see the irony; in both stories winning resulted in death. While both stories contain
irony, each story discloses the element of irony through different aspects of the story. In The
Rocking Horse Winner Lawrence reveals several examples of irony through his characters. Paul
claims he has luck, but his luck kills him. Hester considers herself unlucky when actually she has
many blessings in life. Whereas in The Lottery , Jackson weaves in most of her irony in her setting.
She sets the story in pleasant summer scene and in a small, American town, both of which contrast
the horrific stoning at the end. While dissimilar in their means of displaying irony, both The
Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery clearly compare in their strong use of

  • 2. Theme Of Identity In Othello Othello s Identity, Morals, and Acceptance Othello is perceived as one whom is lost in the novel. Caryl Phillps retells the Shakespeare s Othello. In Nature of Blood by revisiting Shakespeare s Othello, Phillips focuses on discrimination, identity and desire of home through interwoven stories. The novel discusses Othello s past and present situation upon his arrival in Venice. The theme of acceptance is prominent throughout the novel. Othello s character deteriorates as he struggles with his identity and the notion of home. Othello is a general in the service of Venice. He is examined in the Shakespeare play as courageous, noble qualities, trustworthy. It is obvious to feel a degree of sympathy for Othello because he is considered an other . He is a man that is willing to accept that he is racially different, as he seems to recognize his status. I tend to sympathize with Othello because he easily influenced, insecure, and a benevolent heart for Desdemona. Othello relies heavily upon engaging with the Venetian culture and his identity as the military general. The two stories draw parallel to each other because Othello s identity is not ... • 4. The Water Systems At Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, And Mckinney... Our study determined how detrimental pet activity is on the environment, more specifically the water systems at Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, and McKinney Falls. My hypothesis was the if there is human and pet activity near water ways, there will be an increase in algae boom and chlorophyll a concentration because bacteria body material, and feces of the dog affects the water s health. Our results did not agree with our hypothesis because Chlorophyll a concentration was higher at McKinney Falls, where there was the most pet activity, and lower at Bulls Creek, even though pets were allowed also. Additionally, the Wild Basin, where there were no pets allowed, had samples with an unexpectedly high chlorophyll a concentration compared to the samples from Bulls Creek. Other factors including canopy cover, and urban runoff could have also altered water quality. I infer that the water quality was affected more by other factors. The two sites with about the same amount of human activity were McKinney Falls State Park and Bulls Creek. On the other hand, Wild Basin swimming is not allowed. Our results showed that the order from greatest to least amount of nitrate and phosphorous concentration was Bulls Creek, McKinney Falls, and Wild Basin at the lowest. Hence, because Bulls Creek was had the high amounts of human activity and nitrate and phosphorous levels, this relates Moreover, urban runoff highest at Bulls Creek, which has parking lots, highways, and buildings nearby, and also houses ... George Orwell used 1984 as a prediction of what could happen if the fascism in Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia persisted. The dystopian, fascist government that exists in 1984 resembles the governments in the real life, modern day countries of Libya, China, and North Korea. The governmentin Orwell s Oceania is fascist, causing citizens like Winston and Julia to hate the government. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives (Orwell 236). O Brien says that what differentiates Big Brother from the Nazis is that Big Brother knows its intent. Paraphrasing what O Brien tries to convey, it can be stated that even though the Nazis killed millions of innocent civilians, as did the Russian communists, they were not as horrible as Big Brother because they did not understand that they were wrong. O Brien states that Big Brother has cupidity for power and no other motivation to be fascist. To compare, in the book Libya and Qaddafi by Don Lawson, Lawson says of Qaddafi: Today there is little doubt in most Western observers minds that Qaddafi is very much his own person, taking orders from no one and wanting only what he believes best for his country. This, of course, can be an admirable quality. But it can have a dark side as well. • 9. The Cloning Of The Sheep Name: Lanster Yang Teacher: Mrs. DeGregorio Course: English III Date: 8 May 2015 Human Cloning Cloning of Dolly the Sheep was a first on many fronts. First, it represented the first mammal ever to be cloned from a somatic cell. It also sets a benchmark on which to evaluate other animal cloning experiments going forward. Secondly, her cloning was the start of controversy and panic in regards to animal cloning, as it raised the question of whether scientists would seek to clone humans too, and the ethics behind such a practice, should it ever be adopted. Over the past few years, animal cloning has yielded remarkable results, and this has given scientists hope of a possible human clone over the next few years (University of Utah Health Sciences n.p.). When such reports of cloning success appear in the media, only few attempts works. However, for every success story, there are many other cloning experiments that have dismally failed. Out of 100 cloning experiments, less than three, at the maximum, yield viable offsprings (Harper n.p.). Even for these few success stories about cloning, problems often emerge later, as the animal develops towards adulthood. Although there is limited scientific explanations for the cause of such high failure rates, most researchers believe that it is an indication of the technical hurdles facing cloning experiments. The important lesson that can be drawn from the cloning of animals is the likely influences in case humans are cloned. While a growing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Escape Extinction And Its Effects On Society The advent of functional analysis (Iwata, Dorsey, Slifer, Bauman, Richman, 1982/1994) and functional assessments (Dunlap Kern, 1993) have provided behavior analysists with great ability to provide effective treatment for their clients. One common topic of research is the treatment of escape maintained behaviors. Multiple treatments have been established to treat escape maintained behavior. Escape extinction is often utilized in the treatment of behaviors that are maintained through the removal of demands. Escape extinction involves no longer allowing the delay, removal, or avoidance of demands contingent on the occurrence of the problem behavior (Iwata, Pace, Kalsher, Cowdery, Cataldo, 1990). Escape extinction provides some advantages as it is easily compatible with other treatments, increasing the effectiveness of those treatments. However, escape extinction may have some disadvantages including that it may be difficult for those providing treatment to do so with high levels of integrity due to the effort involved in doing so. If treatment is not implemented consistently it may make it more difficult to implement extinction in the future (McConnachi Carr, 1997). There may also be an increase in the targeted response and aggression following extinction (Lerman, Iwata, Wallace, 1999). While extinction is effective there are associated side effects that are incompatible with wide spread use in many public settings such as classrooms. There is a need for ... Turkle shares the results of the research of how robotic toys, such as Furby and Tamagotchi, affect children and adolescents. Through some examples and historical events of technology, she explains how the robot has been developed and enhanced for people, especially younger generation, started to think the robot not much as machine, but more as friends. The definition of human changed throughout the decades: while human was special because they can think, after thinking computer had been launched and disseminated, human became special because they can feel . On the other hand, the second half of the book is all about social networks formed on the Internet, and how human beings are exposed to the online world. Turkle explores the increasing dependence on the online world and discusses about how human beings disentangle their lives in the real world and the online world. Alternatively, polyamory is defined as the state or practice of having more than one open romantic relationship at a time. The word polyamory derives from both Greek (poly) and Latin (amory) roots and can be directly translated to mean many loves. • 13. Taking a Look at Emerging Churches Before plodding full steam ahead, it would behoove us to pin down some important definitions and qualifiers. First the term emerging church. In 2006, at a lecture at Westminster Seminary, Scot McKnight proffered that, there is no emerging church ...it is a movement, or a conversation. This statement, now nearly a decade old was made in an attempt to clarify to his audience that emerging /emergent в‰ denomination . This clarified distinction still stands; however as time has gone by, the aforementioned conversation as well as the term emergent itself have experienced some emergence. Indeed, there are now some churches that would willingly self identify (or allow others to take the liberty of identifying them) in such a manner. More often than not, however, they would also (and preferably, I might add) identify themselves as missional . (More on that in a bit). Emerging churches have several characteristics that make them similar to one another in some respects. But first, let s discuss what they are not. They are not a theological movement, and therefore do not hold in common a defined set of doctrinal beliefs or confessional statements. They are, however, theological in the sense that they are all about having conversation (as they like to put it) about Christian faith, mission and praxis in the context of the core classical Christian creeds. • 16. The Nature Of Human Nature In George Eliot s Silas Marner In George Eliot s Silas Marner there is no character who exemplifies the realism of human nature more than Godfrey Cass. The very fabric of Godfrey s characterization begs for analysis. Through Godfrey s actions, or lack of them, and the resulting consequences of his decisions, Silas Marner becomes a novel that draws a discussion of what good naturedness means in regards to action versus passivity. Godfrey s passivity is the driving force of the novel and in true Eliot fashion, it is his passivity that makes him neither a victim, nor a villain, but puts him somewhere in between. Put forth as a fine, open faced, good natured young man, Godfrey immediately contrasts his brother Dunstan, a spiteful jeering fellow, who seemed to enjoy his drink the more when other people went dry (Eliot 23). This automatically pits one against the other simply put, as good versus bad. Dunstan mocks him for his nature, saying, I m so easy and good natured. You ll take any trouble for me, essentially throwing Godfrey s most highly praised virtue back in his face and further cementing their previous categorization (Eliot 25). Godfrey is held in high esteem after this initial introduction. Furthermore, the condition of Godfrey Cass is one of whom had felt the keen point of sorrow or remorse and whom thanks to their native human kindness even riot could never drive into brutality (Eliot 29). According to his condition, Godfrey has weathered the conditions that have caused him sorrow and remorse, rather than having caused the conditions in the first place. This sets up Godfrey s rationalization behind his passivity, and allows for the notion that simply possessing a good nature is a good enough excuse to leave his decisions to chance. Consequently, after leaving such decisions to chance, the hesitating Godfrey finds that his own downfall unequivocally rests on his own shoulders (Eliot 26). Godfrey s hesitating and passive nature is more prevalent in none other than his denial of his infant daughter, Eppie. With the introduction of his secret wife and child, Molly and Eppie respectively, Godfrey s good naturedness takes its greatest hit. While Godfrey Cass was taking draughts of forgetfulness from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The DCDC2 gene (when it is not supposed to) goes into contact with KIAA0319, which is known as a dyslexic gene ( What is Dyslexia? 2013). None of these hypotheses have been proven yet. Anyway, dyslexics can have difficulties understanding every time they begin to read. The number of times dyslexia occurs or the time of the day it occurs cannot be told; whenever those people are reading, the language complications can be seen. Two main theories have been present regarding the reasons for why this behavior occurs, which are the cerebellar theory and the magnocellular theory. We have proof that dyslexic people cannot process visual concepts (which makes it harder for them to read or write). The magnocellular theory states that this occurs because there is something wrong with the magnocellular pathways. Magnocellular pathways are part of the central nervous system, and allow humans to process visual details from their surroundings. Scientists believe that with these pathways not working, humans obtain dyslexia and are not able to remember the presented information. On the other hand, the cerebellar theory says that people who have problems in the cerebellum might become dyslexic. The cerebellum is basically responsible for human motor control and language. • 22. Music Is A Melting Pot Of Different Cultures Alexandra Stambaugh Monmouth University Professor Wurzbach MU 217 01 American Music is a melting pot of different cultures, emotions, experiences, and therefore genres. It is incredible to see how as music evolves and changes with the time, so does The United States. We are a mixed bag as a country, accepting all different cultures and backgrounds. This has led to many breakthroughs and innovations in music throughout history. We are all influenced by our experiences in life and this is no different in the evolution of music in American History. The Blues was created from African American Slave songs, with lyrics that narrate the hardships of the human experience at the time. These rhythms and forms carried over and eventually created what is now Rock and Roll. Over the next five weeks, we will explore and discover five key genres and artists who are known to specialize in that genre as a way to reconnect with our history and explore the possibilities for innovation in music in the future. Week 1 Folk Folk is a musical style that is very lyrical and meaningful to the listener. Folk music is meant to be shared with a community and bring people together which is exactly what this program aims to do with our American Music Series. Folk music is set apart from other genres because it is not written for a profit but instead it is written to make the audience think about the life experience. Folk music often has very lyrical phrases that can sometimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in ChristJesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order that, as it is written, Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:25 31 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.Christ on the cross appeared to be weakness in the eyes of people; but that weakness of God was stronger than men and everything that men could produce. • 25. Analysis Of Tom Jones s Mister Pip Essay The Development of Tension In Mister Pip, Lloyd Jones explores the ability of the creative space of literature to mediate transformations of culture and identity. Set during the Bougainville civil war in the early 1990s, the island s sole white inhabitant, Mr Watts reopens a dilapidated schoolhouse and reads Great Expectations to the village children. Written in the first person retrospective narrative style, we witness how the villagers are caught in the military conflict just as inexorably as Matilda is caught between the tension between her incongruous teacher, Mr Watts, and her fiercely religious mother, Dolores. They battle for the control over the mind and soul of Matilda, developing the theme of ignorance versus education. The consequent tension between Dolores and Matilda illustrates the theme of adolescence, of challenging parental beliefs and affirming one s values. With all foreign contact withdrawn from the besieged Bougainville, Matilda becomes infatuated with the world of Great Expectations, whose cultural unfamiliarity is exemplified through the animosity Dolores bears toward Mr Watts. Mr Watts brings new, Western ideas to the classroom and encourages the use of creativity and imagination to seek escapism and exposure through literature, giving us all another room to lounge around in the room of the mind. Matilda becomes riveted by the adventures of Pip in Victorian England London, a city whose contours soon become more real than her own landscape. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first painting is The Gross Clinic by Thomas Eakins an oil painting canvas from 1875 drew in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The second painting is The Anatomy Lesson by Rembrandt is also an oil paintingcanvas but drew in 1632 the Dutch Baroqueera. Both paintings depict surgeons at work dissecting features of dead bodies for experimental studies for groups of fellow surgeons and students. Among some of the most famous paintings of the Dutch Baroque era, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp was Rembrandt s first large picture and the work where he consolidated his reputation on moving to Amsterdam from Leiden in 1631. In this painting the bright red blood colors from the surgeon s fingers and scalpel, and the gruesome fresh incision is fascinating, as well as repulsive, and confusing since it is so hard to read the detailed position of the patient s body. Never the less some viewers admired Eakins s precision of detailed composition, color, and praised his convincing creation space as well as form, although many were revoked by what was considered inartistic and horribly disgusting realism. Where as in The Anatomy Lesson it has been pointed out several times that this painting does not actually depict the dissection taking place in real life. There are many details that point this out. For one in the scene there does not seem to be a crowd in the anatomy theater as we would normally see in a real depiction. The second point is that in all of Amsterdam anatomy lessons there is an abundance of the lack of instruments for the dissection taken place, also there is an absence of the preparator who has the task of preparing the body for the lesson that will be taking place. This was considered to be a low end and bloody task, which Dr. Tulp would not be expected to take care of. Finally the dissection itself is very unrealistic in which this is before any available preservation methods for the dead, the abdomen, which were most perishable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sayers Gaudy Night When Gayle Wald wrote, Sayers s career writing detective stories effectively ends with Gaudy Night (108), she did not present a new argument, but continued the tradition that Gaudy Night does not center on the detective story. Barbara Harrison even labeled Dorothy Sayers s Lord Peter /Harriet Vane books, Strong Poison, Gaudy Night, and Busman s Honeymoon, as deliriously happy ending romances (66). The label stretches the definition of a romance, but Gaudy Night indeed has very little to do with crime. Sayers encrypted the real story within her detective novel. We usually think of crypts as graves or coded messages, similar to the letter in Have His Carcasse. The notion of a crypt, however, contains a deeper psychological meaning. Crypts deal with the ideas of introjection and incorporation. These concepts identify the alternative ways in which the psyche handles trauma. When the psyche introjects a trauma, the trauma melds into the subconscious. If the psyche successfully assimilates the trauma, it unites with the rest of the psyche, much like a cube of ice (the trauma) melting in a glass of water (the psyche). Incorporation occurs when trauma embeds itself into the psyche, but remains separate and, therefore, separable. If we return to the idea of the psyche as a glass of water, incorporation resembles what happens when a Ping Pong ball (the trauma) drops into a glass of water. The ball remains a lump in the psyche. Jacques Derrida wrote about the crypt sealing the loss of the object, but also marking the refusal to mourn . . . I pretend to keep the dead alive, intact, safe (save) inside me, but it is only to refuse, in a necessarily equivocal way, to love the dead as a living part of me, dead save in me, through the process of introjection, as happens in so called normal mourning ( Foreword 17). The tomb stands then as an incorporation of the trauma of death. We physically mark the place of rest as a mirror of our inability to assimilate that trauma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Summary Of A Passage To India And A Passage To India Despite having drastically different perspectives, E.M. Forster and Mulk Raj Anand display a common disdain for British imperialism and racism while sharing in a struggle to fully capture the complexities of the British Raj while still spreading their intended message in their novels, A Passage to India and Untouchable. Untouchable and A Passage to Indiawere not written solely for entertainment. The authors shared purpose for writing the stories is more important than the stories themselves. Forster was largely involved in the politics of imperialism, having worked with the International Red Cross in Alexandria for four years and written a pamphlet that condemned the colonization of Egypt by Britain (Meyers 238). Later in life he would write only essays, criticisms, biographies, and broadcasts with the intention of sharing his liberal views (Parry 253). He was clearly motivated intensely by his political views. When referring to his novel, Forster said, The political side of it was an aspect I wanted to express... It had some political influence it caused people to think of the link between India and Britain and to doubt if that link was altogether of a healthy nature (Meyers 238). Anand was just as passionate in his desire to share his political opinions. In the words of R.K. Dhawan, Untouchable has no story interest; it is just an impassioned plea for social cause (102). In writing Untouchable, Anand s goal to shine light upon the trials of the Indian far surpasses the significance enjoying the plot on its own. Each story is carefully crafted to influence the reader s opinion on imperialism, and efforts to amuse the reader can be traced back to the authors desire to share their political viewpoints. These shared convictions come from writers who viewed the British Raj from opposite sides, Anand as an Indian, and Forster as a British man. Anand was a resident of Punjab, a hub for Indian rebellion, and a massacre where hundreds of Indains were killed took place in his hometown (Harrex 36). He experienced the trauma of the Indian people personally. For him, colonialism is something he has endured. He was also arrested and beaten brutally by the police, having been left with dark marks on his back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Iliad by Homer, translated by Richmond Lattimore, the Greek king Agamemnon loses his best warrior, Achilles, who decides not to fight in the Trojan War. Agamemnon knows that the Greeks will be unable to win the war without Achilles, whose strength cannot be matched by anyone else. In Beowulf by an anonymous poet, translated by Burton Raffel, Beowulf is Hrothgar s best chance to defeat Grendel and avenge the Danes who had previously tried and failed. Achilles and Beowulf can be viewed as the servants of their kings, since they serve and protect their crown. The two kings reliance on their servitude emphasize the importance of Achilles and Beowulf, making the relationships between Achilles and Agamemnon, and Beowulf and Hrothgar similar to each other. The relationships between Achilles and Agamemnon, and Beowulf and Hrothgar show that kings play an important role in contributing to the greatness of their servants. The kings rely on their servants heroic abilities. At the beginning of the story, Achilles is unhappy with Agamemnon because the king took away his prize for himself. We see here in a Patriarchal society a male, acknowledging the fact that he knows his wife is unfaithful to him, is not only calm about it; but says they will stay together even given the situation. That person I can count on may not be a mother, father, brother, or sister. That person may be a teacher, coach, or a friend. Family is people who want to see someone happy in life; people who loves us and wants to see us make something out of ourselves. Familyis people who can get together and have a good time and make memories. The reasons I value family is because there a support group, they show my history background and stays connected, and finally I benefit from themy life experience. If I look into the history of the word family, I can see that the meaning changed several times over the decades. The meanings always tend to relate together in some type of form. Family was referred to in the Middle French as a group of people living under the same rooftop in 1337. If you just think about a next door neighbor who lost themy house and you let them stay in your home. Say if they moved in with you because they were broke and lost themy house. That neighbor would be considered family. Over a decade later in 1442 1444, the meaning of family change to people who are related by blood I did have the same blood line as someone else. Both of these movements overlapped in numerous ways; they both struggled with the government trying to silence them to keep an image, with media distortion, not having a clear main focus, and more. They both related political struggles to domestic ones. The focus is on two things. The first being the look at the Civil Rights movement under the heat of the Cold Warand how it affected the movement. The second thing is the anti war Vietnam protests and how the Civil Rights movement partially contributed to that. It s a look at how both of these movements were ties from political struggles to domestic struggles. A look at the interactions of both these movements during their struggles. The Cold War was a time of high tensions between the Soviet Union and the United Stateswhich consequently served a purpose in the Civil Rights movement as well. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists suspect that a caffeine withdrawal could be the possible cause of common migraines. Why? Well, caffeine is a powerful psychoactive drug that is addictive. Caffeine withdrawals produce all the same symptoms as migraine. Chronic caffeine use causes a number of changes to the central nervous system. Caffeine use increases the number of some types of serotonin receptors and some types of adenosine receptors as well. Adenosine is another neurotransmitter; adenosine strongly inhibits serotonin release. Chronic caffeine use increases the number of adenosine receptors.(The body is trying to compensate for the constant presence of caffeine, which occupies and blockades adenosine receptors and thus interferes with adenosine reception.) When caffeine is withdrawn, however, the chronic caffeine user is left with too many adenosine receptors. Having too many adenosine receptors is equivalent to having too much adenosine. As a result, serotonin release is inhibited and this leads to migraine symptoms. As you know there are many drugs used against migraine. Many of these drugs contain caffeine, for good reason: caffeine relieves migraine by reversing caffeine withdrawal. Migraine drugs that contain caffeine include Fiorinal (40mg caffeine), Fioricet (40mg caffeine), Excedrin (65mg caffeine), Anacin (32mg caffeine), Cafergot, Norgesic Forte (60mg caffeine), and others. Is it a mythical creature with wings sent to protect you? Some may think so; others have different thoughts on the matter. But when did talk of angels first occur? Have they always been around? In this paper, I will attempt to define what an angel is and what they do. I will also discuss how angels differ between religions, as well as try to pinpoint the origin of angels. I will explain the similarities and differences between these religions and their ideas of angels. The term angel is derived from the Greek word angelos , meaning messenger. This word represents an earlier Hebrew word, mal akh that is also interpreted as the role of messenger or minister. It is safe to say that many people will regard angels as messengers between Heaven and earth. In many biblical stories, angels are sending messages. Some messages are announcements of birth like the ones that were sent to Abraham and to Samson s father. Other messages encourage actions as the ones did to Elijah and David. In these cases, angels were bringing messages from the divine world, or Heaven, to men and women in the earthly humanworld. It is believed that the messages with angels also work in the reversed sense as well; meaning from human being to angel to God. It is said that the soul speaks to the angel, the angel to the cherub, the cherub to God. This type of communication would explain the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This asserts that rational approaches suggest a greater level of intention, comprehension of problems, and predictability of relations among actors than found in reality (3). Additional elements work against rational policy making including the cognitive limitation of decision maker to consider all possible options and foresee all consequences. Ingram argued that policy problems are not neutral but subjectively identified through a political exercise based on values, interpretation and the subjectivity of policy makers (6). Pluralist elitist models recognise the distribution of power and how this affects decision making, proposing that the power to influence policy is concentrated in the hands of a few (2). In the article Artificial Intelligence by Paul Norvig, it states The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is the science and engineering of machines that act intelligently. (Herzfeld 509). So, what does Norvig mean when these machines act intelligently? This means that Artificial Intelligencemimics human intelligence as if it had its own consciousness. Consider this, whenever you perform a task, for example, sorting colored objects into their matching containers, programmers who design these Artificial Intelligent machines go through the logical process we do as humans. So, if someone had a red cube and was looking for its container, one would go through a logical chronological process. First, one would define the color of the object, red. Then, one would find out what type of object he or she is holding, cube. Finally, in order to complete the task, sorting colored objects into their matching containers, one would identify the container that was for red cubes. This is an example of the logical process regarding Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence is difficult to define. There are so many areas in which intelligent machines could benefit life, a single definition wouldn t fully encompass its capabilities. Noreen L. Herzfeld, Professor of Theology and Computer Science at College of Saint Benedict, provides an interesting perspective on what Artificial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Authors question whether public policy needs to be called upon, to better regulate business conduct with societal needs. Businesses need to understand sustainable development is more important and should be the primary driver. Authors highlight Tata Group as a good example as Tata primary purpose was to help people and not make money. Authors highlight what has changed in 20 years after people realized fundamental changes will need to be made for a sustainable development. Today, some companies are investing into clean technology but we still haven t done enough to reduce world population. Authors argue a critical need for economic, social and environmental issues to be considered with new business strategies and future technologies. 2.Andreas, Cooperman, Gifford Russell (eds), 2011 in the ... • 45. United States Political Thought As A Democracy United States political thought today as of today is considered a democracy. A democracy is where the citizens of the United States are eligible to vote for the leaders that represent the country. Without the drafting of the British documents, such as The Magna Carta and the Petition of Rights along with the political upheaval of the Glorious Revolution and Enlightenment, America today would be following the traditional acts of arbitrary monarchical rule. All of these specific times in history were outcomes of people seeing that absolute monarchies were trouble for the fundamental rights of the people. Being under an absolute monarchy is similar to being under a dictatorship which leaves no say in the hand of the people. The Magna Carta, also known as The Great Charter, was the first step into people receiving the rights that they deserved. The King of England, King John was forced by his barons to sign the charter to establish that the monarch was no longer absolute and that the people were guaranteed a trial by jury and due process of law. King John is considered to be one of the worst kings in history. He was not in favor of the people, he was in favor of himself. He was such a greedy King who would penalize any baron who went against his wishes. In 1206, King John lost some land that he was insistent on getting back. Normandy, Anjou, Maine and parts of Poitou were no longer under his control. The way he went about it was to harshly raise the taxes. If the people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Marketing, Micro Marketing And Macro Marketing Many people think that production of goods and service is important for their life. However, they don t realize that marketing is a significant process for carrying goods and service from producers to them. Marketing doesn t only mean to sell products or persuade customers buy goods they actually don t need. Successful marketingprovides more choices of products and guides a correct direction for customers to purchase right goods, as result of customer satisfaction. In other words, customers feel happy and satisfied with goods and services because products meet with customers needs and expectation. The best result of marketing is customers will continue to visit the stores they once consumed. So companies will advantageously catch higher customer lifetime value through a correct process of marketing. Both companies and customers will gain profit because companies will make a close relationship with customers over a lifetime and customers will get what they need. There are two types of marketing, micro marketing and macro marketing. Micro marketing often deals with some activities of individual firms. They make customer satisfaction and build strong relationship with customers. Product, place, promotion and price are four parts of marketing mix to satisfy the needs of target customers. • 48. Irony In The Rocking-Horse Winner Winning Death Titles should give insight into the stories they introduce; however, the use of irony disrupts this connection. This disruption through use of irony occurs in both The Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery . The Rocking Horse Winner by D. H. Lawrence depicts a story about love, luck, lucre, where a young boy tries to win the affection of his mother but ends up dying as a result. The Lottery by Shirley Jackson portrays a story about a small town American community who takes part in an annual lottery in which the winner gets stoned to death by her family and friends. In both stories the authors use irony as a main literary device. Even though D. H. Lawrence and Shirley Jackson use different methods of displaying irony in The Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery , irony, itself, permeates both stories from beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They use irony in both similar and dissimilar ways. In a similar way, both authors introduce irony from the very beginning in their titles. The titles The Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery both imply that someone in the story wins something desirable. However, after reading the stories, one can clearly see the irony; in both stories winning resulted in death. While both stories contain irony, each story discloses the element of irony through different aspects of the story. In The Rocking Horse Winner Lawrence reveals several examples of irony through his characters. Paul claims he has luck, but his luck kills him. Hester considers herself unlucky when actually she has many blessings in life. Whereas in The Lottery , Jackson weaves in most of her irony in her setting. She sets the story in pleasant summer scene and in a small, American town, both of which contrast the horrific stoning at the end. While dissimilar in their means of displaying irony, both The Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery clearly compare in their strong use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
