1. Elephant Man Essay
Crafting an essay on the "Elephant Man" can pose a considerable challenge, given the nuanced
and intricate nature of the subject matter. Tackling this topic requires a delicate balance between
historical accuracy, empathetic exploration of the protagonist's life, and a critical analysis of
societal attitudes during that era. The complex narrative of Joseph Merrick's life demands a deep
understanding of Victorian society, medical perceptions, and the human condition.
Moreover, addressing the emotional and ethical aspects of Merrick's experiences adds another
layer of intricacy. One must navigate the ethical dimensions surrounding exploitation, human
curiosity, and the portrayal of disability in historical and contemporary contexts. Balancing
compassion with academic rigor is crucial to capturing the essence of Merrick's story while
maintaining a scholarly approach.
Researching primary sources, medical records, and historical documents is essential for providing
a comprehensive understanding of Merrick's life. Engaging with scholarly articles and literary
analyses contributes depth to the essay, ensuring a well-rounded exploration of the topic.
Additionally, delving into relevant cultural, medical, and philosophical perspectives helps situate
Merrick's narrative within a broader context.
Structuring the essay requires careful consideration of the chronological order of events, the
evolution of Merrick's public perception, and the impact of his condition on his relationships.
Developing a thesis that goes beyond a mere retelling of events and delves into a critical
examination of societal norms is vital for creating an essay that stands out.
Furthermore, addressing potential biases in historical accounts and acknowledging the limitations
of available information is crucial for presenting a well-rounded and honest portrayal. Balancing
empathy with objectivity is challenging but essential in constructing a nuanced and thoughtful
analysis.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the "Elephant Man" necessitates a thorough understanding of
historical contexts, a compassionate exploration of the individual's life, and a critical analysis of
societal attitudes. Successfully navigating these challenges results in an essay that not only
educates but also prompts reflection on the complexities of the human experience.

2. Maslow Connections Summary
Maslow Connections Response
The sneetches video includes many of Maslow s principles. Maslow expresses
that there are certain needs that need to be met for a human, or sneech, to survive.
His hierarchy of needs include: physiological needs, safety needs, love and
belonging, esteem, and self actualization. In the video there are two different groups
of sneetches, the plain ones and the ones with a star on their tummies. Maslow s
ideas are put into play here because the plain sneetches were neglected of their love
and belonging needs. They felt left out and not cared for. Additionally, they showed
low self esteem and all the plain sneetches had lower social statuses compared to the
star bellied sneetches. Later in the video, the plain sneeches transform into star bellied
sneeches so they could feel loved and included; however, the star bellied sneetches
then removed their stars so they could be the dominant breed and have more power
and advantages over the other sneetches. In conclusion, the plain sneetches felt less
important and felt they weren t granted with certain basic needs, therefore, they
attempted to reach belongingness by putting stars on their bellies. Sadly, they were
denied that feeling when the star bellied sneetches removed their stars to remain
unlike the others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tribalism is being apart of a group or clan and feeling like you belong. Like Maslow
stated on his hierarchy of needs, love and belonging is a necessity for human
survival. The article states, We have evolved to depend on our tribes, literally, for
our safety and survival. This sentence provides evidence, referring back to Maslow
s hierarchy of needs, that tribalism can also be associated with the physiological
needs, the basis of human survival. Overall, the human necessity of wanting to fit in,
feel loved, and feel like you belong relates directly to

In the Desert Southwest, we are blessed with two different blooming seasons, spring
and fall. Roses don t really enjoy the heat of summer and go into summer dormancy,
meaning that they just exist and don t grow or bloom significantly. However, with
the days growing shorter and summer temperatures begin to cool, it is time to lightly
prune your rosebushes, which will stimulate new growth. In September, begin by
pruningback about 1/4 of the total size of the rose bush, (this isn t the major
pruning that occurs in the winter). As always, prune back to an outward facing bud
at an angle of 45 degrees. Seal any pruning cuts larger than the diameter of a pencil
with Elmer s glue to prevent borers. It is also time to fertilize your roses in preparation

Keeping a hummingbird feeder is a good idea, but there are other things you need to
do to keep the little birds happy and humming in your garden. Hummingbirds, unlike
most other animals, do not find their food source based on smell. Because of this,
brightly colored plants and feeders are what attract the tiny creatures to your garden.
Red is the best color to attract them. Keeping a clean, full feeder provides
hummingbirds with the energy they need to keep flying around your garden and to
other stops on their feeding route. The sugar water solution, however, is not their
main food source. Hummingbirds actually get the nutrients and proteins they need for
survival from soft bodied spiders and tiny insects on the plants in your garden. Their
outrageous metabolisms burn up calories so quickly, they need the sugar and flower
nectars to keep them energized so they can hunt. The traditional sugar/water solution
calls for one part sugar to four parts water. Do not boil the water to make syrup. Just
mix it in room temperature water. Some gardeners have experimented with solutions
that have a higher concentration of sugar to water. There is no research to show that
high concentrated solutions of sugar harms the hummingbirds. Their metabolism
operates so much differently than most animals. A higher concentration of solution
just means they can drink less often to get the energy they need to hunt. It
4. Rene Descartes Third Meditation Summary
In Rene Descartes Third Meditation, his purpose is to prove whether God exists,
and if so then whether or not God is a deceiver. This mediation allows us to be sure
that when we perceive things there is no way that they could be wrong. Descartes
believed that God created our mind and situated us in this world, with this being said,
God should have given you a mindthat reaches true conclusions about the world on
each and every occasion. Your mind isn t incapable of making mistakes or being
wrong. Basically, Descartes is trying to prove that God wouldn t have given you a
mind that would leave you to false beliefs about the world for the simple fact that
that would make God a deceiver. Therefore, Descartes thinks that God created us
with minds that have the capacity to attain true beliefs about the world. We are
neither infallible nor hopelessly trapped by falsehood. Rather, we are somewhere in
between: We can reach true beliefs if we are careful about how we use the minds that
God bestowed upon us. He shows that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By Descartes thought, if you carefully inspect the beliefs to make sure that they are
clear and distinct, then we could be absolutely certain that the beliefs are correct.
Descartes uses the concept of clear and distinct ideas to prove a few different
arguments. A clear and distinct idea is an idea that you have in your conscious
mind of something that feels so completely true and utterly real that you can t
possibly doubt it. The idea of God, somewhat who is perfect, was clear and distinct
to Descartes, but just because he believes this is true does not necessarily mean it is
true. Because of this, he goes about trying to show that the presence of clear and
distinct ideas in our conscious mind proves that God does exist. Clear and distinct
ideas are undoubtly very important for Descartes, they allow him to define what it is

How to Become an Electrician Last summer, I worked for an electrician company
that helped open my eyes to all the possibilities that I could do in the world, and
becoming an electrician was one of them. Since I have worked at the company,
becoming an electrician is definitely something I want to learn more about. In this
essay, I want to further my knowledge on how to become an electricianby uncovering
the process that I need to know to become one. Also, the difference between
choosing to become a union or non union electrician if it is what I choose to do.
The first step to becoming an electrician is to do some preliminary schooling. This
relates to taking relevant high school classes if you previously had an interest in
becoming an electrician or at the collegiate level (How to Become . . . ). Kirkwood

on the electrical trade. Kirkwoods electrical engineering program is designed so that
once you complete it, that all the credits will transfer to UNI to keep on pursuing the
program (Electronics Engineering). Also, taking preliminary classes will help

6. Essay on K101 Tmoo2
This essay will explore why working in someone s home can give rise to tensions and
challenges for both the service user and care worker and will go on to explore how
these issues can be overcome.
When we read about Yetunde s visit to Angus and Ann s home it is clear that this was
not an easy one for all involved. From the onset, tensions were running high within
the family home. Ann was feeling frustration and despair at having to wait so long
for support to arrive, coupled with guilt that she failed to recognise Zoe s crisis at
school. Ann began feeling resentful towards Bob as she felt she was left to manage
the heavy burden of caring for Angus alone. It is clear that the sheer strain of the
situation is impacting on all family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yetunde focuses on empowering Angus by encouraging him to fulfil his role as a
grandfather. Yetunde does this when she suggests to Zoe to show her grandfather the
cartoons she has drawn. This makes Angus feel needed and reminds him that he is an
important part of the family, lessening his feeling of being a burden. Yetunde also
acknowledges Zoe s abilities which encourages positivity, easing the stress and build
up of tension, creating a happier environment within the family home.
Although originally Ann was disappointed and frustrated that Yetunde was not able
to help with lifting Angus and not able to carry out tasks such a collecting shopping,
eventually Ann appears to have accepted this by understanding Yetunde s role.
Yetunde made her role clear to Ann and the family right from the beginning. Being
honest and setting out clear expectations and boundaries is paramount in obtaining
good working relationships, as the service user is not given any false pretence. This
may cause frustration and disappointment, however it is the role of the care worker
to ensure that their role is explained and understood by the service user and that
expectations and boundaries are discussed to avoid confusion and problems later on
in the relationship. Being honest gains respect and trust, these are key in building
good, effective relationships between care worker and service user.

7. Essay On Charles Manson
How does someone get sentenced to death row for murders without actually killing a
single person? For someone whose specialty is brainwashing and cult building, this is
quite the simple feat. In the words of Charles Manson, We re not in Wonderland
anymore Alice. To even remotely comprehend the mind of Manson, one must dive
headfirst into his turbulent past, multiple murders, and current imprisonment.
Troubled childhoods lie behind many criminals, and Charles Mansonis no different.
On November 12, 1934, Charles Milles Manson was born to a drug abusing,
criminally involved, 16 year old girl in Ohio ( Manson Family ). She is said to
have sold him for a single pitcher of beer (Henderson). As one can expect, this was
only the start of an extremely troubled life. By the age of 9, Manson had gone from
residing with family members to living at reformatory schools. He was beginning
to follow in his mother s footsteps, also committing his first theft at this age
(Henderson). Young Charlie s life would take an even sharper downward turn as
the years progressed. Most know Manson as a notorious cult leader who inspired
his followers to do the unthinkable. Upon reaching age 34, Manson chose to start a
family (Abbas). However, this one would be far different than any other family to
ever exist. He pushed the boundaries of sanity for several young girls whom he
lured into his evil movement. Charles believed that an enormous race war would
bring about the end of the world. He predicted that African Americans would
prevail. During all of this, he planned to hide out with his family in the desert, only
to emerge and take over the world because he thought the African Americans would
be unfit to lead themselves. He even referenced himself as Jesus Christ incarnate
(Abbas). All of Manson s predictions came from what he thought were hidden
messages in the song Helter Skelter by the Beetles (Henderson). It seemed as if all
that was left to do was wait for the end to come. When the apocalypse failed to start,
Manson took matters into his own hands. His master plan was to send members of
his cult to commit murders, thinking African Americans would be blamed, thus the
start of the race war. The first round of murders are

The Bill of Rights is a formal declaration of the legal and civil rights of the citizens.
Also known as the first ten amendments of the constitution, ratified in 1791 and

purpose of the Bill of Rights was a statement of basic individual freedoms that

9. Grateful Dead Concert Essay
For concert essay 2, I have went with an online concert. I have chosen the concert at
Alpine Valley, where the Grateful Dead performed July 7, 1989. This is a historic
venue for the Grateful Dead and the Deadheads, because this was an atmosphere that
always seemed to be far more electric than most. Although the Grateful Dead was a
great live act throughout the entire existence of the band, many of the band members
admit during the 89 90 tours, they were at their best. To open the concert, the band
members claim the stage to a roaring crowd, particularly focused upon Jerry Garcia.
With very little preparation time, the band jumped right into their first song,
without hesitation. This stood out to me because all of the concerts I have seen
live, they ll spend quite some time tuning, and chatting up the crowd. This crowd
sure did not need the pep talk, because of the virve already presented by the crowd.
The opening song was Let the Good Times Roll. With this song as an opening and a
more prominent Grateful Dead hit, the aura of the concert had already been set.
Each singer of the band had their own verse in this song, to really get the crowd
engaged with each member. A very distinguishing piece of the Grateful Dead was that

rock ballad, with the stage lights low, and the band gently playing songs such as
Standing on the Moon. This song depicts a man standing upon the moon, gazing
upon unfolding events on Earth, longing to return to his lover and home. Within this
song, The Grateful Dead pay homage to their roots, including a line Somewhere in
San Francisco, on a back porch in July. After this verse, Jerry Garcia erupts into a
phenomenal guitar solo, as the lights fade to

The Music, Industry Commentary REAL Meaning of When I First I Saw You
Ooh, lawd! I don t think I have to explain how magnificent the soundtrack was, but

Combining students attending traditional education classes and students with
exceptionalities is commonly termed as mainstreaming or integration. Inclusion is the
act or practice of including students with disabilities in regular school classes as
defined in Webster s dictionary (Webster, 2003). Ro Vargo was fortunate enough to
have parents who closely monitored the learning environment and advocated for their
daughter. They followed her educationeach step of the way. She continued to build on

Instead, his response surprised them. He stated that other people had the concerns
and made the rules that prevent people like Ro from receiving First Communion.
(Villa Thousand, 2005, p. 28). But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to
them, Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the
kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God
like a child shall not enter it. (Mark 10:14 15, New International Version). The
pastor was excited for Ro to participate, and the effect that it may have on the church
families to see her innocent, pure faith as she received her First Communion in God s
Temple. Including Ro gave the church the chance to teach and learn together, which
is a great example of inclusion.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), passed in the Untied States
in 1975, says that to the maximum extent appropriate, handicapped children,
including those children in public and private institutions or other care facilities, are
educated with children who are not handicapped, and that special classes, separate
schooling, or other removal of handicapped children from the regular educational
environment occurs only when the nature or severity of the handicap is such that
education in regular classes with the use of supplementary aids and services cannot
be achieved satisfactorily (P.L. 94 142, В§ 1412 [5] [B]) (Villa

In his article, Pape starts with a definition of suicide terrorism alongside other types
of terrorism, namely demonstrative terrorism and destructive terrorism, and gives a
brief overview of the purpose and benefits of each method. Pape continues by
explaining his reasoning for believing the use of suicide terrorismto be rational,
focusing on the timing, target selection and pursuit of nationalist goals employed by
terrorist groups using suicide terrorism. Pape uses examples such as the Hamas
attacks against Israel in 1994 and 1995 to coerce Israel into withdrawing from the
Gaza strip and certain West Bank towns respectively. Pape further attributes the rise
in suicide terrorism to the level of success it has experienced, citing 6 of 11... Show

Pape uses the liberal idea that democracies are more vulnerable to terrorist attacks
due to the large influence the public has on the government. Pape argues that
democracies are seen as having a lower threshold of cost tolerance in foreign affairs
and are less likely to respond to suicide terrorism with extreme measures such as
invasion. Pape also avoids a spurious correlation with his claim that democracies
have lower thresholds of cost tolerance by emphasizing that while the evidence on
democracies having lower thresholds is spurious, it is the terrorists perception of
them as weaker that makes them targets regardless of their actual relative threshold
levels. In these ways, Pape uses liberal theory to support his argument that the use of
suicide terrorism is rational and strategical by showing that the terrorists intentionally
pick targets that they believe, and according to liberal theory, should be
14. Gene Therapy for Cancer Essay
Cancer occurrs by the production of multiple mutations in a single cell that causes it
to proliferate out of control. Cancer cells often different from their normal neighbors
by a host of specific phenotypic changes, such as rapid division rate, invasion of new
cellular territories, high metabolic rate, and altered shape. Some of those mutations
may be transmitted from the parents through the germ line. Others arise de novo in
the somatic cell lineage of a particular cell. Cancer promoting mutations can be
identified in a variety of ways. They can be cloned and studied to learn how they can
be controlled.

It may be possible to correct an abnormality in a tumor suppressor gene such as P53
by inserting a copy of the wild type gene; in fact, insertion of the wild type P53
gene into P53 deficient tumor cells has been shown to result in the death of tumor
cells (3). This has significant implications, since P53 alterations are the most
common genetic abnormalities in human cancers. The over expression of an
oncogene such as K RAS can be blocked at the genetic level by integration of an
antisense gene whose transcript binds specifically to the oncogene RNA, disabling
its capacity to produce protein. Experiments in vitro and in vivo have demonstrated
that when an antisense K RAS vector is integrated into lung cancer cells that over
express K RAS their tumorigenicity is decreased (4).
Despite the promise of such approaches, a number of difficulties remain to be
overcome, the most important of which is the need for more efficient systems of
gene delivery. No gene transfer system is 100% efficient, unless germ line therapyis
contemplated. During the past two decades, there have been major advances in our
understanding of how cancer develops, proving that cancer has a genetic basis (2). A
series of genetic abnormalities that accumulate in one cell may result in a pattern of
abnormal clonal proliferation. Our growing understanding of the genetic basis of
cancer offers new opportunities for the molecular prevention and treatment of cancer.

Making Supermouse: Animals and Experimental Technology
The debate surrounding the creation of human animal chimeras is one that has risen
to elevated prominence following the Goldman experiment (2014) in which human
glia were injected into the brains of mice, creating one such chimera.
A chimera is a patchwork of cells from different organisms however, the genetic
material remains distinct and is not in any way crossed. In Goldman s experiment
the neuronal cells of the brain were still mouse cells, it was only the connective glia
cells which were human. Yet these foreign cells began to take hold in the mouse
brain multiplying until they replaced almost all of the mouse s own glia cells. Due
to the larger size of the human cells, they proved more efficient in coordinating
neuronal impulses, leading to mice with improved cognition and memory. These
mice were able to learn much more rapidly and could even be taught emotions such
as fear.
However, not everyone agrees with this sort of research. Even though this particular
experiment may have medical implications in the treatment of MS and others like ...

It is an automatic reaction to find these concepts weird due to social conditioning, yet
arguably, this alone is not reason enough to avoid such experimentation.
Another argument is that these practises are unnatural and should therefore be not be
performed. Religious beliefs often come into this, stating that it is unethical to play
God in deciding to create new forms of life. Yet, this is based entirely on the
oversimplified assumption that everything natural is good and everything engineered
by humans is bad; a notion with no real basis. Medical and technological advances in
all areas of industry are by definition unnatural, yet most come without ethical
concern, so why should this
16. Russell On Denoting
On Denoting and Definite Descriptions: Russell s Puzzle Solutions In his work, On
Denoting , Bertrand Russell proposes a theory of denoting and descriptions, which he
summarizes as follows: Everything, nothing, and something, are not assumed to have
any meaning in isolation, but a meaning is assigned to every proposition in which
they occur. This is the principle of the theory of denoting I wish to advocate: that
denoting phrases never have any meaning in themselves, but that every proposition in
whose verbal expression they occur has a meaning. (480) Russell contends that the
difficulties concerning denoting are [...] all the result of a wrong analysis of
propositions whose verbal expressions contain denoting phrases (480). In... Show

In considering this puzzle, Russell first introduces the principle of the indiscernibility
of identicals (hereafter the indiscernibility principle), which states that [i]f a is
identical to b, whatever is true of the one is true of the other, and either may be
substituted for the other in any proposition without altering the truth or falsehood of
that proposition (485). That is, two identical entities can be used interchangeably in
any statement without altering the truth value of the statement in question. Russell
then sets forth the proposition George VI wished to know whether Scott was the
author of Waverly and concludes that, since Scott was in fact the author of Waverly,
one can replace the author of Waverly with Scott and thereby prove that George VI
wished to know whether Scott was Scott (485). Under the indiscernibility principle,
both propositions are true since the terms the author of Waverly and Scott are
identical and thus wholly substitutable for one another. However, while Russell
finds the first proposition to be true ( George VI wished to know whether Scott was
the author of Waverly ), Russell concludes that the second proposition, George VI
wished to know whether Scott was Scott , is false due to the fact that an interest in
the law of identity can hardly be attributed to George VI (485). Herein lies the
Substitutivity Puzzle. The

was a little overwhelming for me at first. Reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective
People By Stephen R. Covey, really helped me to better understand what a whole

introduced to the concentric circles model as seen Fig.1. Starting out with the circle
of concern which includes worries fears such as national debt, nuclear war, health,
personal relationships and problems at work. Outside of my circle of concern are
the things that I do not have any involvement in. Inside my circle of concern there

He breaks down priorities into the quadrants shown in table 1. The best way to
mange your time would be staying in quadrant II. By staying in quadrant II you
will spend less time in I, and have more time for III and IV. As an engineer
developing great time management skills is a must. By staying in quadrant II you
will build the relationships need to move forward, and open more doors for the
future. Also this will free up more time for those projects that have a deadline and
require long hours. Habit 4 Win/Win Win/Win is a character based code where all
parties involved gain something. Win/Win does not show life as a competition
where someone loses. Also Covey says that if a mutual benefit can t be found then
no deal, agree to disagree agreeably. In today s world I believe Win/Win should be
applied with the environment in mind especially with nature resources decreasing.
Design products that can be easily recycled or having longer lifespans would help
reduce our carbon foot print. Habit 5 Seek First to Understand, Then to be understood
Communication is one of the most important life skills. In Habit 5 Covey tells us that
listening is the most important part of communication. Covey also describes
empathic listening, listening with intent to understand the other person s frame of
reference and feelings. After understanding come being understood the key to being

19. Concept Of Attitudes On Attitudes
Concept of Attitudes
In literature there are several definitions of attitude. According to Legendre
(LaFortune Saint Pierre, 2001, pp. 30 31) an attitude is a state of spirit, an inner
disposition acquired in relation to himself or to the whole element of the
surrounding environment that incites a way of being or acting, favorable or
unfavorable . For Morissette and Gingras (1999) an attitude is an inner disposition of
the person that translates into moderate emotional reactions that are assimilated and
then tested whenever the person is placed before an object; These emotional
reactions lead her to approach the object (to be favorable) or to depart (be
unfavorable) .

The most widely used models for the study of attitude are the Model Classical
Tripartite Attitude (CAB Model), the Classical One Dimensional Model of Attitude
and the Model Attitude coated Tripartite according to Neto (1998). Attitude is
composed of cognition, affection and behavior, these elements being the most
diversified order.
Since attitude is a set of multidimensional variables, and taking into account the
traditional approach made by Rosenberg and Hovland (1960), which proposes to
analyze the three components separately, so that they can be operationalized. These
variable are constituted by the affective component of an attitude refers to the
subjective feelings and the physiological responses that accompany an attitude. The
cognitive component refers to the beliefs and opinions through which the attitude is
expressed, even though they are not always aware. The behavioral component
concerns the mental and physical process that prepares the individual to act in a
certain way. (Neto, 1998).
Studies by Brewer Crano (1994) and Olson Zanna (1993), draw the following
rationale for the three components. The affective component of attitudes refers to the

20. Karen Carlin Case
Memo
To: Ms. Boyce, Chief Executive Officer
From: Student, Personnel Management Consultant
Subject: Karen Carlin Case Study: Issue Analysis and Proposed Solutions
Date: 21 October 2010
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memo is to analyze and propose solutions for the issues Karen
Carlin faces as she takes on the supervisor role for the schedule typist department of
Hepplewhite Boyce. The three issues to be analyzed are (1) lack of productivity, (2)
insubordination and abuse of company resources, and (3) staff mismanagement. First,
the problems will be defined and probable causes discussed. Then, recommendations
will be made to resolve these issues.
DEFINITION OF PROBLEMS AND PROBABLE CAUSES

She has also been known to report to work, only to leave the office for hours at a
time doing personal errands. Pat is influencing the others to take long lunches and be
late for work as well. This blatant abuse can be attributed to the following possible
causes:
1.The employees are not challenged.
2.The employees resent management for not listening to their ideas regarding process
improvement.
Clearly, the insubordination and abuse of company resources cannot be allowed to
continue. Staff Mismanagement
And finally, there is the issue of staff mismanagement. The supervisor, Keith
Frazier, is only checking in with this department one to two times per week. Mr.
Frazier is aware that Pat is making international phone calls. He is also aware that
Pauline found a way for Pat to make these calls from the building s elevator once he
had the phone system modified to only allow internal calls. Mr. Frazier has also been
fielding complaints from the accountants about not receiving their tax schedules in a
timely fashion. However, he has failed to confront either of these issues. This lack of
management can be attributed to the following:
1.Mr. Frazier does not respect the type of work done by this department.
2.Mr. Frazier fears confrontation.
Something must be done to allow for better management of the staff.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS
Recommendations to solve the issues in the three areas

Piston...
ABSTRACT
This article reviews the history of free piston internal combustion engines with its
advantages over traditional engines and applications. In this research paper unique
characteristics of free piston engine are reviewed and working of this engine is
discussed with its successful application in air compressor and gas generator. Finally
this article reviews the history, working, advantages and applications of free piston
engine.
INTRODUCTION
A free engine is a thermal engine having linear piston movement to extract work from
a fluid, or to act as a pump. The connecting rod and crank shaft are not present in a
free piston engine for control the motion of piston and conversion of reciprocating

These engines are suitable for power generation in medium power range.
Free piston engine have been tried in ship propulsion road, and rail traction and even
in aircrafts
High speed centrifugal air compressors and water pumps can be directly driven bt
the free piston engine or a gear box with small reduction ration.
Used in mixed gas steam cycle
ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE OF FREE PISTON
The advantages and disadvantages of free piston engine are:
Advantages:
1. Simplicity Free piston engine is very simple in design with negligible vibrations
due to the absence of crankshaft and connecting rod.
2. Power to weight ratio It provides excellent performance with high power to weight
ratio.
3. The FPE has lower turbine operating temperature and gives high efficiency at low
turbine temperature.
4. Multi fuel capability FPE has unique characteristics to work at more than one fuel
i.e. it is compatible for multi fuels.
5. It is very flexible and reliable with less noise and maintenance.
6. It is very easy to Start and control and used to waste heat recovery.
Disadvantage: This engine has disadvantages like poor fuel efficiency, low stability
and high combustion
22. How Does Dumas Deserve The Count Of Monte Cristo
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas that centers around the wrongly
convicted Edmond Dantes and how he takes revenge on those who convicted him
while also rewarding those who took care of his father while he was imprisoned.
Despite being poorly reviewed by scholars, this novel is still popular with the general
public and is considered to be Dumas masterpiece. After reading this novel, it is
obvious that it does deserve the title of masterpiece . Dumas work is absolutely
genius in The Count of Monte Cristo, however the book itself is not untouchable like
the Count himself. The story itself is the epitome of romanticism, but it is only
hindered by Dumas paid by the word length descriptions.

Saintsbury states that there is no attempt at an impression of growing horror
culminating in the horrible death of Madame de Villefort and her child. The
interest is frittered away in endless details and episodes (Saintsbury 1). I agree that
Dumas was far too generous in his descriptions and often times these descriptions
eliminated all sort of mystery or suspense in certain events. In fact, many of the
events that were supposed to be suspenseful were drowned out by massive amounts
of words to describe one scene. The depiction of Villefort s apartment was written
as, in order to call Edouard, he had to awaken the echoes of that apartment
transformed into a coffin; to speak was to violate the silence of the tomb (Dumas
483). the description of the apartment does provide a sense of creepiness, but the
sheer circumlocution takes away from the overall feeling of terror and suspense.
However, even without suspense, the novel still maintained my interest as vivid
images of the scenes were still available rather than being replaced with something
vague. Saintsbury suggests that the dangerous method of introducing long recitals by
various characters in order to help on the movement and join the intrigue is
unscrupulously resorted to [in the novel] (Saintsbury 1). The perfect example is
when Andrea says, you, my good man, are my stepfather. But I don t think it was you
who provided me with a hundred thousand

school is a great option for those who are very self motivated. Having good grades
is something that can really make you proud of yourself and happy. Student are a
lot happier when they have good grades because they don t have all these weights
on their shoulders. Having late work and getting a bad grade on a test/quiz and
really put a lot of stress on students, they should work their hardest and sometimes
that is doing it independently. Most people believe that it s harder for kids to work

United States Involvement with Vietnam
The USA were involved in the Vietnam conflict for a number of reasons. The first
going back to what happened during World War 2 when Japan surrendered to USA
in 1945. It was decided that the Indo Chinese territories should be given back to the
French empire. However, many Vietnamese people wanted to be independent and
free of French rule. So, the Vietminh was founded and lead into independence by
their communist leader Ho Chi Minh. Fighting soon broke out against the French
who still wanted to keep hold of Vietnam as it was very rich in natural resources like
minerals. The French soon had an army with around 500,000 soldiers both

would be the gateway to it spreading and taking over the whole of Asia. I f this

to import cheap raw materials over from Asian countries. Kennedy, along with the
rest of the world, were also very tense due to living under the threat of the cold war.
The USA were very much against the idea of the rest of Asia going communist as
it would have been quite likely for it to join forces with the USSR thus creating a
super force able to take of the world. Although America were very keen to go into
Vietnam to do something about Ho Chi Minh, they needed to find an excuse to do
so. The Gulf Of Tonkin Incident was the excuse they needed to increase their
involvement in Vietnam. This was what happened in 1964, when US ships thought
they were being attacked by torpedoes. Johnson, the President at the time decided
that he could use a second imaginary attack to persuade congress to agree to send in
troops to bomb North Vietnam in Operation Rolling Thunder . Johnson was
especially keen to get in and attack as he was accused of being soft on communism
and he wanted to prove otherwise. This sudden action escalated US involvement
dramatically. Another incident leading to more American involvement in the conflict

25. Essay on Access, Quality, and Cost Containment
Improving health is in the best interest of everyone, including non health
professionals. Health mangers need to be constantly looking for ways to improve
access to health, the quality of the care, and cost containment. Often the biggest
barriers to accessing healthcare are cost and location. Lower income individuals just
do not have the resources to have optimal healthcare, or cannot take the time away
from employment to deal with health issues. One potential solution to help with these
problems could be telehealth. Telehealth allows a lower level healthcare practitioner
to communicate with a physician or specialists when necessary. Remote rural areas

With all the bad science in the media the general public is often confused as to
which are the correct choices. Educating the public to be better consumers of
science would improve general health and lower the need for access to healthcare
(Pincus, Esther, DeWalt, Callahan 1998). There are weaknesses in the proposed
plans to improve access. In the case of telehealth nothing can replace the hands on
analysis of a trained physician. Any type of trauma care will still require an airlift to
a trauma center for care. Complications such as reactions to medications, or
complications of child delivery, would leave the patient in the hands of under trained
staff. Such a program would require an infrastructure of physicians willing to
teleconference. Second it would require an internet or satellite link that could not be
disrupted. School health clinics run into the barrier of costs to set up. Districts
already have trouble meeting expenses, additional physicians, nurses and staff would
cause districts to go over budget. A federal program could help fund, but would
require federal control over local control. Second school clinics run into the problem
of permission and privacy. Parents for cultural reasons may not grant permission to
treat some students. The issue of attempting to improve health promotion is that of
receptive audience. Without drama and entertainment the general public is rarely
interested. The lower income people targeted by program
26. Compartment Syndrome Research Paper
A shin splints is actually the soreness of the the muscles in the legs that occurs from
increasing your training regimen too quickly. For instance, if you have been training
for a five K for a month and then suddenly decide to run a marathon you would have
shin splints. Or if you start out, after a one month of not training, running3 miles per
day you would be sore just like your first day of working out.
But not all soreness in your shins is a shin splint. If you can feel a specific spot
where the pain is coming from or, if you run your hand down your shin and feel a
single spot that hurts then you most likely have a stress fracture. A stress fracture
is a small, slower developing break in the bone. It comes from the same types of
stress in running but is much more serious and can require weeks of time to heal.

Compartment syndrome is the pressure built up in the compartment underneath your
skin that comes from a muscle that is swelling. They have strange ways of
measuring the amount of pressure underneath the skin and to release they have to
use surgical decompression. It will at first just hurt and after a period of time, cause
the loss of muscle in the legs because of its affects of the pressure on the nerves. Shin
splints are caused by pretty much everything involved in running. If your shoes are
outdated and have lost the padding on the soles then your feet are basically
slamming into the ground with each step. This is why I would never advise
someone to wear the toe shoes for running because the soles are a thin piece of
rubber. Another cause could be running on a track in the same direction. If you are
running long distances on the track and turn right all day then the your outside leg is
going to be more worn out than the other. If you run on the same curved roads then it

28. Exploring The Roots Of The Recurring Subjects And
Symbols...
After nearly two centuries completely lacking in images, early Christians finally
developed a pictorial language to express their faith. The conventions developed
early on would come to define the middle ages, an entire era of almost exclusively
Christian images. Early Christians adopted classical conventions for their art, which
would serve an opposing purpose for outsiders and initiates. For outsiders, the
symbols meant no harm. But to followers of the faith, the images are loaded with
meaning. The meaning inherent in the history of the symbol, when combined with a
biblical context, creates a full and multi faceted iconographic tradition. The purpose
of this paper is to explore the roots of the recurring subjects and symbols evident in
the funerary paintings in Catacombs of Domitilla in Rome.
Funerary paintings and sculpture provide the most thorough evidence of early
Christian art. An exceptional visual tradition has been preserved in the vast network
of underground burial systems: the Roman catacombs. One of the most extensive of
these is the Catacomb of Domitilla. Beginning in the third century CE, the
Catacombs of Domitilla housed thousands of bodies from families rich and poor, and
extended for over seventeen kilometers in four distinct subterranean levels. In terms
of style, most of the works are indistinguishable from Roman paintings. If anything,
the art style is a more rushed and cramped version of illusionistic Roman wall
painting. The use of iconography is

The main social issue that we would like to address is America s dependence on
fossil fuels and the possibility of switching to environmentally friendly energy
sources. Energy is the key conflict factor during our era. So new energy
development is a vital project that not only can decrease the conflict that base on
energy but also improve our environment, meanwhile it also can decrease the
conflict that created by the environmental issues. Our audience will be mainly

subject matter since the younger generations are more technologically savvy and

Being such a necessary and overused resource makes it a hotly contested subject
and global issue. The United States is one of the biggest importers and users of oil
in the world, which makes our need of it a major influence on several global
markets. Our heavy reliance on dirty fuels, as well as every other industrialized
country in the world, will lead to massive effects on the climate of our Earth. This
in addition, has led to violence and war, particularly in the Middle East, over the
ownership and distribution of oil and other energy resources, which in the end only
serves to profit big oil industries. This problem will not stop or slow down, as the
demand for energy will only increase as the world s population and global economy
continues to expand. For mainly these reasons, which will be handled more in depth
throughout this paper, the need for clean alternative energy is paramount and must be
addressed within the foreseeable future should we otherwise suffer the consequences.
In 2014, the United States within that year used about 7 billion barrels of petroleum

some part of the Western Hemisphere. Although our dependence on importing
petroleum has been on a decline (since 2005) we are still the

I spent most of my childhood traveling the world. What a way to spend a childhood
tell you, I am the person I am today because of the places I have been, the
opportunities I have had, and the people I have met. I can not even remember the
abundant number of times I have been woken up at four am to leave for the
airport. Dragging my sleepy feet behind me and dumping myself into the car. I
remember waiting in the jet way and, the deep inhale I would take when I d first
step foot on the aircraft. Taking in a big breath of the airplane air that would
always burn through my nose and make me slightly nauseous. Over the years I
have learned to hold my breath or to breathe out of my mouth until I got to my
seat. These are the same memories I relive every time I begin a new adventure. As
a kid I thought being pulled out of school for a week to go to Belize or Grand Turk
was normal; or that every other weekend every kid went to New York for the day
to have lunch and do some light shopping then fly home that night. It was not until
one day with my twin sister sitting in the seat next to me that I realized we were
not like most kids. The flight attendant had bent down in between my sister and I
as she quietly asked us if our parents had died. At twelve years old I was shocked
and left speechless. She went on to ask us why we were in school and it flourished
into a whole conversation about our trip. This was the same plane ride where I had
one of the most interesting conversations to

33. Executive Level Leader s Use Of Delegation Analysis
Explain three principles that should guide an
Executive Level leader s use of delegation.
1. Choose what tasks you are willing to delegate.
Executives should be using their time on the most critical tasks for the business, and
the tasks that only they can do. Delegate what you can t do, and what doesn t interest
you. You should have surrounded yourself with the best employees, so make use of
their talents. For example, non technical types should consider delegating IT solution
based ideas to the IT department, and let them present you with solutions. Marketing
ideas that need to be thought out from many social angles, should be given to an
individual or department that is gifted in creative thinking.
2. Trust those to whom you delegate.

I like Morrie the most because he doesn t let the fact that he is dying get in his way.
He shows hope, love, and care, all the things a person should show. He still wants
people to come see him and talk to him to take his mind off the fact that he is sick.
He is full of wisdom and makes others look differently on life. Morrie is a big
inspiration to Mitch in many different ways. Morrie reminds me of my great
grandma, which is why I like Morrie the most. Morrie is just like her, she never let
the fact that she was sick and dying keep her from doing the things she loved to do.
She continued to do the things she loved up until the day she could no longer do it.
My great grandma was an inspiration to others just like Morrie was. The lesson that
was most important to me in this book was the lesson that Morrie taught Mitch.
Morrie taught Mitch to value things that he never thought about. He made Mitch
rethink everything that he thought was important. So many people walk around with
a meaningless life. They seem half asleep, even when they re busy doing things they
think are important. This is because they re chasing the wrong things. The way you
get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to
your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives

The severity of the mental and physical effects of bulimia nervosa (BN) as well as the

enormously detrimental. The past research on the subject focuses on fasting

Sensation and perception related psychology research has examined the relationship
between body weight, eating behaviors, and essentially the entire spectrum of taste
sensations in the past. However, less work has been done to explain the possible
physiological differences in gustation and the causes of these differences between
individuals with severe eating disorders like bulimia nervosa and those who partake
in normal eating behaviors. Additionally, the past literature focuses on differences
based on body mass index and weight classification rather than the mental
differences as the source of these taste perception disparities. The only exception to
this focus is in the context of deprivation or fasting and sweetness which are
potentially only two unhealthy behaviors and one of the taste sensations affected by
these disorders. Because so little is known about the effect of bulimia s symptoms on
taste perception, this study aims to zero in on two of the main weight losing
behaviors, binging and purging, and their individual and combined effects on fatty
taste perception since high calorie foods are important to the binge purge cycle
(Drewnowski, 1987). This relationship will be tested by surveying a bulimic
experimental group and a healthy control group to determine

1.1 Assessment aims
The aim of the current work lies in accomplishing a laboratory small Auxiliary Power
Unit (APU) engine practice, including the collection of the test data and achieving an
engine performance simulation and diagnostic analysis.
To carry out the analysis, it is necessary to develop the engine model and taking into
account the measurements from the test in order to derive a coherent model.
1.2 Engine description
An APU is a small gas turbine engine that provides secondary power to the airplane.
This power is used to start the main propulsion engines and provide pressurized air

The risk review boards also define time and cost reserves for the project. According
to the case study the reserves provide a bumper for parts of the project that can go

2.2 What Role does each play, and what is critical for success?
2.2.1 What is the role of the risk review board?
Redmill (2002) stated that It is often claimed that the greatest value of risk analysis
lies not in the values derived but in the fact that the process forces us to think
deeply about, and therefore better understand the risks. The methodology and
processes established as part of the risk review board were imperative for the
success of the MBE program because it forced all parties involved to better
understand the risks of the project. The role of the risk review board was to do a
deep dive into critical risks and determine the likelihood and consequence of that
risk occurring during the project. The review board is made up of skilled and highly
qualified experts, they are tasked to review each risk critically and thoroughly.
Although the board was made up of
12 people in JPL, NASA and the main contract, it was the responsibility of the project
team engineers to effectively communicate the mitigation strategy for each risk.

thanking all of you for being so gracious with me. Before I answered your questions I
wanted to make sure I had done the adequate amount of research. The topic of the

But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all
things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of
God s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his
powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right

39. Ancient Egyptian Beliefs
Religions are like fire. They have the potential to warm a house or have the ability to
burn a house down. Ancient Egyptians religious beliefs were influential to their
sustainability. We see some of their ancient values in honoring the earth and living a
life of balance has globalized and manifested in many religions around the world.
Ancient Egyptians practiced a religionthat celebrated the afterlife, honored the earth
we live on, and shared many similarities and differences with other religions around
the world. Ancient Egyptians believed in polytheism, and worshipped many gods.
Many of their gods were associated with Earth elements and served as catalysts
between nature and humankind. Based off the definition of religion, ancient
Egyptians were very religious as they believed in life after a death. They lived by
the way of ma at which meant that their life impacted the lives of others they
should maintain that balance and awareness. Although, they believed in many
Gods, the act of practicing religion in their day to day lives was embodied in the god
Heka. Mark describes Heka as, He was the god of magic and medicine but was also
the power which enabled the gods to perform their functions and allowed human
beings to commune with their gods (Mark, 2017). One could say Heka was the god
of balance and access to all other Gods of ancient Egypt. The balance of gods was
even depicted in the androgyny of their gods. Mark also describes this as, The

40. What Is The Political Theory Of The Prince By Niccolo...
Businesses fail all the time. Often times, this is due to poor leadership with a lack
of insight. To be a successful leader, you must know how to gain respect among
your employees without making them despise you. This is a very difficult task,
but luckily running a business is a lot like politics. There is so much information
known today about the politics of the past, which can now be drawn on. One of
the most famous books about politics ever written is The Prince by Niccolo
Machiavelli. This work provides an extensive look at the politics of the
Renaissance era and how one could be a successful leader in that society. By
applying Machiavelli s political theory to your work life, you will be able to
successfully lead any office. According to Machiavelli s theory, in order to run a
successful company, you must be able to control your people, while still,
hopefully, getting them to like you. An important aspect of running a company is
to avoid hatred. If you are hated, it is unlikely that you will get the respect that you
deserve. Really the best way to go about gaining this respect is by obtaining
popular support among your workers. While it is important not to alienate the
higher ups, the groups that really hold the most power are the more average
workers because they are the majority. If you have a choice between making the
leaders happy and making everyone else happy, choose to please the majority.
However, if you are put into a situation where you can only satisfy one
41. The Valdivia Earthquake
Earthquakes, also referred to as temblors, are one of the world s most powerful
occurrences. The Earth has four layers: the crust, mantle, inner and outer core.
Earthquakes occur in the crust and upper mantle (Refer to Figure 1). The mantle is
made up of semi molten rock called magma. The upper mantle rock is hard. The crust
is the outer layer of the earth. Together, the crust and upper mantle make up the
lithosphere. The lithosphere is 20 50 km thick and is cracked. The asthenosphere sits
below the lithosphere. The lithosphere consists of tectonic plates (lithospheric plates).
Tectonic plates is the theory that the Earth s outer shell is divided by slabs of solid
rock. When these two tectonic plates make frictional contact the outcome may be
deadly.
Sometimes there can be smaller shocks that occur, one s before called the foreshock,
and one s after called the aftershock and the main earthquake called the main shock.

Megathrust earthquakes are the most powerful earthquakes in the world and can
produce tsunamis through a variety of structures. The Valdivia earthquake, in theory,
is a convergent the earthquake was caused by the Nazca plate releasing tension and
descending underneath the South American Plate. The Great Alaska earthquake also
appears to be a convergent boundary earthquake as the Pacific Plate lurched
underneath the North American Plate causing the earthquake.
Seismic waves are waves of energy that travel through the Earth s layers as a result of
earthquakes. During an earthquake, the waves released may be P or S depending on
the way and speed of the wave (Refer to Figure 3 and 4). P waves, or primary waves
are longitudinal waves. Their vibrations are along the same direction as the
direction of travel. P waves are faster than S waves. S waves, or secondary waves are
transverse waves. They travel at right angles to the direction of
42. Communism And The Soviet Union
Have you ever had a case of the hiccups that you just couldn t seem to get rid of?
You tried all the tricks in the book, from holding your breath, to standing upside
down, but those pestering hiccups still stuck around? In a sense, many Eastern
European countries had a persistent case of the hiccups, during the early 1990s,
which they were trying to shake. Except this wasn t your average case of the hiccups,
these hiccups were called communism. Following the fall of the Soviet Union in
1991, most post Soviet satellite states began making the transition to become liberal
democracies. However, the transition from communist governments to democratic
governments was not necessarily a smooth one for most of the Eastern European
countries. Decades of oppressive Soviet rule and deep rooted communist parties
made ties to the Soviet Union especially hard to cut. Ukraine, in particular, struggled
mightily to break away from the Russian communists, and that struggle is still
continuing today. In the form of a corrupt government and pro Russian supporters in
South and Eastern Ukraine, roadblocks were created on the Ukrainian road to
democracy that they are still trying to maneuver. In analyzing the challenges posed to
Ukraine in their continuing transition to a liberal democracy, it is important to start
in 1990, when Ukraine officially declared independence. This declaration included
principles of self determination, democracy, and the priority of Ukrainian law over
Soviet law.
43. Mercyhurst University Student Liability Study
There is a liability factor that is associated with bringing teenagers onto the
Mercyhurst University campus in order to show and teach them about higher
education. It is important that all members that are going to be on the tour will be
transported safely and properly with either the help of the YMCA or our group
members. Mercyhurst Universityand our group that will be representing the
university should be held responsible in providing accurate and motivational
information to the group as a way of upholding the mercy core values we stand for
and perpetuating an image that is appropriate to the institution. This project is going
to involve us as a group walking around campus in which the participants and
Mercyhurst University students could be subject to personal injuries, property losses,
or damage in connection with the activity of the visit. It is important that the
teenagers abide by all the rules and regulations of the University, behave in a
respectful manner, and be attentive to the message we are trying to convey to them.
Although it is important for the group to enjoy themselves while on campus, it is
more important that they learn, make connections, and realize the importance of
higher educationand its benefits to their own individual... Show more content on

A Critical Analysis of Character Traits of The White Tiger s Protagonist
In a country where corruption runs rampant, it can be difficult to dig oneself out of
the depths of poverty. Set in India, Aravind Adiga s novel, The White Tiger, follows
the protagonist Balram Halwai and his journey from rags to riches. Balram is born
in poor, rural India, which he refers to as the Darkness. He earns the name White Tiger
by a school inspector, as he is clever and unique, like the rare white tiger of the
jungle. Despite the challenges of his upbringing, Balram moves through situations
of bribery, lies and murder to surpass societal expectations. Ultimately, Balram
Halwai s character traits of being perceptive, adaptable and immoral allow him to
break free of India s cycle of poverty in order to achieve success.

Endangered Animals
Endangered animals are a species with less than 2500 of that specific kind remaining
and if their population is expected to drop by 50 percent within 10 years (c 15). In
other cases some animals are naturally rare(c 8). Until the mid 20th century, these
animals weren t paid too much attention, until the study of environmental science and
ecology took off. At this time conservation groups started coming up because they
noticed these animals were becoming an immediate threat. Unfortunately these
organizations could not do much only campaign against direct killing(c 10). The
extinction of these animals is led by many factors, some of which these conservation
groups had no control over such as natural extinction, which is ... Show more content

animals and are not any less or more important than the others. Flatwoods
Salamander, scientifically known as Ambystoma cingulatum. This salamander is
small in size ranging from 3.5 to 5 inches in length with a slim body and a very
small head. It has a gray colored pattern on its sides and dorsum and light flecks on
the venter. They can be found beneath logs near cypress ponds, pitcher plant bogs,
and swamps. Their prefered habitat is known to be the slash pine flatwoods. In
November is when most of their breeding takes place where 100 to 200 eggs are
laid in small groups under logs near cypress tupelo ponds or Pond Cypress. They
leave those eggs abandoned which later then hatch once the site is flooded by rain.
The adults and larvae diet consist of a wide variety of invertebrates(56). These
Flatwoods Salamander have become endangered due to deforestation, residential or
commercial development, and silviculture which are all destroying their habitats. The
harvest of crayfish as bait is harming the larvae because when the harvesters drag
their large hardware cloth buckets through inundated vegetation they drag along some
larvae that are then either collected as bait or left to die(IUCN) Green Salamander,
scientifically known as Aneides aeneus. This salamander is 3 to 5.5 inches in length

In today s modern society our needs and demands are infinite and fulfilling them can
become a daunting task for any developing country or nation. The Australian Federal
Government is confronted with these endless demands daily and must make
decisions that are both advantageous towards the Australian public and satisfies the
rudimentary requirements and necessities of the nation. Energy is a primary need
that the Australian public requires daily and the procedures of generating the
immense amounts of electricity required for powering every day necessities is

an inefficient method of producing energy. Nuclear energy offers a resolution and...

Although the construction procedure of nuclear power plants will substantially deplete
the countries funds, they will eventually become a beneficial asset, producing more
kilowatts than coal, wind or solar (Burgess, 2013). As more plants are manufactured,
it s anticipated that construction costs will decline, making the expense of nuclear
generated electricity that much more interesting towards the general public, resulting
in a more profitable solution towards generating energy (Burgess, 2013). Aiding

47. Character Analysis Winnie The Pooh
Winnie the Pooh and his many friends have become one of the most popular
children s stories to date, spreading around the world. The story may have become
so popular due to its lessons embedded within, to teach kids morality, interactions,
and good judgment. There are several theories that suggest each character depicts a
different neurodevelopmental and psychosocial disorder (Shea, 2000). According
to the Canadian Medical Association, each character can be diagnosed based on
their behaviors and actions. On the surface the story portrays a young boy living
his life in the beautiful world of the Hundred Acre Wood, with his not so
conventional group of animal friends. However, perspectives change with time,
and it is clear to our group of modern neurodevelopmentalists that these are in fact
stories of Seriously Troubled Individuals, many of whom meet DSM IV3 criteria
for significant disorders (Table 1) (Shea, 2000). Shea (2000), and team, did an
extensive review of the works of A.A. Milne. They looked deeper into the hidden
meanings of each characters actions and behaviors to decipher the meanings behind
each characters behaviors and actions. While Shea (2000) and team looked at all the
characters, Winnie the Pooh is going to be the focus. Pooh demonstrates two different

Nationalism
conceptualization
Not only economic, but also political realities of global process of democratization
of the 1990s of the 20th century had impact on development of the political analysis
of nationalism, having stabilized a problem of the analysis of a ratio of civil and
ethnic nationalism not so much in general theoretical, but in a regional direction.
The problem of a dichotomy of civil nationalism (as inherent mainly in countries of
Western Europe and North America) and ethnic nationalism (widespread, according
to the standard version, in the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe) became a
subject of scientific discussion.
Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the USA were distinguished
as a political type. Ideas of nation and the corresponding type of nationalism,
according to Kohn (1961), arose and were created within earlier existing government
institutions promoting distribution of the process of cultural homogenization (that is
relative uniformity of society). The Western model of nationalism borrowed ideas of
freedom and equality, fight against dynastic board, equating of nationality with nation
accessory when all nations, which are a part, are united by the equal political status
and desire (will) of the individual to be part of the nation. Within the Western model,
the state preceded (or process of its formation coincided) to development of the
nation. Kohn (1961) wrote that nationalism transcends localism and kinship;

49. Historical Background Of Health Care Essay
Historical Background
Health care in Canada is delivered through a publicly funded health care system
called Medicare, which is a universal coverage, single payer plan for all Canadians
and legal residents. This health insurance pays up to 70% of all medicals costs
excluding dental, eye care and medications, which is covered by private sectors. The
current health care policy is guided by the provisions of the Canada Health Act 1984.
Approximately 99% of physicians service costs and 90% of hospital care are
covered by publicly funded program. Historically, Canada s health system was dated
back to 1867 when the British North American Act was passed, which gave federal
government the responsibility to take care of marine hospitals and quarantine. As for
the provinces, its responsibility is to manage the local hospitals, asylums, charities
and other charitable organizations. To compare with the United States of America,
the American government does not have a single payer program, which results in a
somewhat less efficient healthcare system. Health care facilities are largely owned
and operated by private sector businesses. 58% of US community hospitals are non
profit, 21% are government owned, and 21% are for profit.
Major reforms
On September 1st of 1919 in Canada, the Federal Department of Health was created.
Prior to that, this department was under the supervision of Federal Department of
Agriculture. In the beginning of 1920s, the first of few municipal hospitals were

We must link out all the related processes and study the cost by using activities
based analysis in order to find where is the highest cost allocate and what drive the

for competitive advantages. Internal Differential Analysis For the firms that require
the competitive advantage in differential of product, the analysis is required to
identify opportunities in order to sustain in differential of products. Firstly, they must
take into concern about the customer s value created processes such as in what
section they are involved and evaluate the strategies of enhancing customer s value
such as product features, price, services, brand positioning and others. For a firm to
achieve superior differentiation, it must utilize the best mix of resources in creating
value for its customers. In order to prioritize its processes as sources of
differentiation, a company must determine what attributes of each process enhance
customer value. By studying the customers value activity in related processes, we
can understand the customer value and hence will come out a differential product
that may follow the degree of customers are willing to pay. We can either sell the
differential product in premium price and can sell it in reasonable price but premium
products in order to retain the market shareholder.

Tuesdays with Morrie Rhetorical Analysis
Mitch Albom described in the book did not resemble the Mitch Albom in the
movie production. American author and sports columnist Mitch Albom in his
memoir from Tuesdays with Morrie (1997) records his weekly conferences with
his old, diseased professor for his final thesis about life. He develops his tear
jerking chronicle by first describing Morrie before Lou Gehrig s disease, then
addressing his new lifestyle with the disease, then listing their discussion topics in
chapter title form, and finally recounting how Morrie s wise words have impacted
the way Mitch lives and encounters life. Albom s purpose is to raise money and
awareness of the disease in order to pay for Morrie s medical bills. He establishes a
buoyant tone for the general public. However, although this memoir to a man s
favorite professor is a success and a best seller, no book is complete without a movie,
in Hollywood. In 1999, talk show host Oprah Winfrey produced a film dedicated to
the narrative written by Albom. However, this film did not closely resemble the
memoir for entertainment reasons. Mitch is not completely portrayed correctly; the
film would be boring if the story was identical.
Tuesdays with Morrie as a memoir simply shines light on how Morrie Schwartz
impacted a former student s life beneficially. Mitch is a young man whose life had
blossomed to be fairly average. He is a married man and a journalist. Though he had
not hit rock bottom, he also

For more than 130 years, Canada s FPTP voting system has been a source of
discussion and debates, however, it remain all the same with no changes. In this
section we will discuss few suggested reforms and referendums on the Canadian
electoral system that took place over the past decades until most recently in 2015. We
aim from that section to understand what might be the reasons for not considering
any changes on the electoral system in Canada. For example in the 1920s, the
emergence of a third party known by the Progressive Party helped to ignite the
discussion about the possibility of changing the federal electoral system in Canada.
However, the submitted proposals to switch to a majority electoral system like the
Alternative Vote system (which requires at least 50 per cent of the votes to win a

British Columbia (BC). British Columbia, in which 160 citizen were chosen by
random by the Citizens Assembly in 2004 to held meeting debating the changing the
electoral system throughout the province. The Assembly met in early 2004 to set out
a series of public consultation meetings. The Assembly then decided to recommend
that BC should adopt the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system . Their
recommendation to adopt a new electoral system was put in a referendum to question
voters in 2005 provincial election. However, the government at that time raised the
existing referendum legislation to require a successful vote to achieve at least 60
percent support across the whole province, must including 50% support in 60% of
the number of ridings. The referendum results fell slightly short to meet the above
criteria. In 2009, a similar referendum for the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system
was held in May 2009. However, the adoption of STV was
