Luka Paskina Research Paper
Luka Paskina, a wine maker has come from Italy with the aim to bring his mastery to Virginia 17
years ago. He has managed to frame up to the local climate and soils. He has gained a lot of
success and contrasted with Thomas Jefferson, who has had a complete washout some hundreds
years ago.
Paskina, the senior manager of Barboursville winery and other wine sellers have studied well what
and how is working in Virginia and now some of their wines have got a merited popularity and
leave behind similar wines from even older vineyards.
As a result, Virginia became an attractive place for tourists admirers of local cuisine and wine.
Earlier it attracted tourists with its history and nature, but now tourism has grown up because of the

He visited wine making regions of France, Germany and Italy being the envoy in Paris from
1785 till1789. Having come back to the US he has been serving best wines at parties in the
White House, subsidizing farmers who tried to grow grape and also has been trying to reduce the
wine tax. No one drinks too much there where wine is cheap, and no people remain sober there
where the high wine prices make people to abuse strong drinks, he considered.
There were only several wineries in Barbousville in the year of foundation; now 120 wineries are
scattered on the territory of the whole state. Virginia has become the fifth important wine making
state in the USA. Jefferson would be proud of this.
After a wine degustation visitors may have dinner in Palladio, the Italian restaurant in the north of
Barbousville. Melissa Close, its chief cook uses solely local products, crabs and fish from

Analysis Of George Bernard Shaw Declares s There Is No...
George Bernard Shaw declares there is no love sincerer than the love of food. However, with the
love of food, there generally appear desires for an accommodation of a satisfying environment for
further appreciation of the food. For those seeking such sorts, Harry s, a locally owned restaurant in
Moss Bluff, deserves recommendation on account of the comfortable atmosphere, pleasant food
served, and the friendly staff. The restaurant building rests in the same concrete lot as a Five
Star Quick Stop convenience store off of highway 171 of Moss Bluff. To the right of the
convenience store is Joe Miller Road. To the left of Five Star is Harry s and it connects directly
to a casino. The casino and the restaurant are owned by the same people. The white tin like roof
on the building provides a contrast to three maroon signs separated by two green signs propped
adjacent to them, capturing the attention of those passing by. Wrapping around the red bricked
restaurant and casino are several yellow lines that fill with a variety of vehicles. Four blacked out
windows situated directly under the large maroon sign displaying Harry s Restaurant in a creamy
white font decorate the building s face. Approximately two feet of bricks separate the windows and
the black glass door entrance. Upon entering the restaurant stands a brown booth on the left. From
behind the booth a rather youthful and welcoming female greets guests walking in through the
glass doors. Despite the somewhat tight

The Theme Of Persistence In Where The Red Fern Grows
The great physician George Sheehan once said, Success means having the courage, the
determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be. Sheehan
meant in this quote that you can do anything if you are willing to use your willpower and energy
to do so. This leads to the theme shown in Where the Red Fern Grows by Mr.Rawls. In the
development of the book Where the Red Fern Grows the main theme persistence will lead to your
own success is shown strongly throughout. To demonstrate the means of how Rawls showed the
previously stated theme we shall start from the beginning. Persistence can be seen through the use
of time with determination and purpose. A year passed. I was twelve. I was over the halfway... Show

Billy was loyal, he was loyal to his idea of having two dogs at the start of this tale and now he s
being loyal to listen to his promise with his dogs. He s making sure that he does what he says. In
this way he is always doing his best or as the theme suggests being persistent to following
through with his word. Even though his arms and back felt horrible he kept going and even with
the questioning of his father he didn t back down. This ties into persistence because persistence
means the following of a man s(or woman) thoughts or ideas. Billy felt that he must complete
the chopping of the tree even though his dad told him time and time again. He knew that he had
to persist his way through. This is yet only one of the many times Rawls shows the true theme of
this book. Subsequently, the theme is shown again as the story continues on. Here Grandpa
shows his determination to getting Billy in a hunting contest.. Billy, he said, it takes some doing
to have a set of dogs entered in this hunt. I ve been working on this for months. I ve written
letters on top of letters. I ve even had several good friends in town helping me. You see, I ve kept
a record of all the coons your dogs have caught, and believe me, their catch is up there with the
best of them (Rawls 157). In this example, Rawls proves not just the main character, Billy, but
Grandpa also shows persistence through hard work, showing

The Gap Of Quality Of Life Essay
I.Introduction
The problem that I am going to focus on this research paper is the gap of quality of life(QOL)
between panic disorder patients, nonclinical panickers and normal people without panic disorder. In
2009, The National Institute of Mental Health announced that about six million American adults
suffer from panic disorder(PD). Panic attacks are defined as sudden bursts of emotions which
include fear of dying and losing control and so on. Most of the people suffer from occasional panic
attacks but not all of them develop into panic disorder. People who have worries about recurring
panic attacks have more frequent panic attacks than the others who do not. People who have
genetic predisposition, had extremely unpleasant early childhood experience with anxiety and risk,
and having to face challenging changes on becoming an independence adult are more like to have
PD.
One out of 75 people suffer from panic disorder and it usually appear during the teen or early
adulthood. It is also said that having a family member with panic disorder will increase the risk of
it in other family members. PD is highly treatable with psychotherapy such as cognitive behavior
therapy or medication or both. Since PD symptoms are very similar to heart attacks or other life
threatening condition such as shortness of breath or hyperventilation, sweating, heart palpitations,
chest pain, trembling, dizziness, and hot or cold flashes, there are more chances to be
misinterpreted those symptoms and

Types Of State And Independent Schools
Schools as organisations
1.1Identify the main types of state and independent schools
Foundation and trust schools
Community schools
Specialist schools
Independent schools
Academies
Free schools
Sixth form colleges
Single sex schools
Faith schools
Grammar schools
Primary and secondary schools 1.2Describe the characteristics of the different types of schools in
relation to educational stage(s) and school governance
Foundation and trust schools Foundation schools are owned by their own governing body. They
confirm the admission policy with the help of the local education authority. The school is owned
by the governing body or a charity organisation, they will also own the land and the buildings of
the school. A trust school is similar to a foundation school but they create a charity trust with an
external partner E.g. A business. To become a trust school, it will need to be accepted by the
governing body whilst consulting parents.
Community schools They are owned by the local authority which supports the school creating
associations with the local community and also offering support services. The local authority also
creates the admission policy and helps develop the facilities of the school for groups such as adult
classes.
Specialist schools These are mainly secondary schools who showcase their status for one or two
subjects that they specialise in. Applying for this status allows them to receive more funding from
the government.

Araby Light And Darkness Essay
Light and Darkness: Imagery in James Joyce s Araby James Joyce s Araby presents a short story
of a young male whose infatuation leads him to a bazaar called Araby. Hence, the title of the story.
Joyce uses the narrator s infatuation to drive the story. Emotions such as desire, despair, and hope
are conveyed through the usage of light and darkness. This contrast is present throughout the short
story. Joyce uses setting, tone, and epiphany to depict how the narrator s dreams are not
connected to the reality of his every day life. The story begins with the narrator describing the
environment in which he lives to show how mundane, and routine his daily life is. The narrator
lives on the blind North Richmond Street which is secluded and desolate. Here, the narrator
attends a Christian s Boys School and is set free every evening to return to the house in which he
lives. The houses, nonetheless, are described as having brown imperturbable faces. The calm face
of the houses parallel the type of lives the narrator and surrounding neighbors lives. The only source
of relief from the reoccurring habits in the neighborhood is when the narrator and his friends play
behind the houses.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

statement that if taken into consideration by the narrator would leave him in the state of desire
from which he was alleviated of by Mangan s sister. Instead, the narrator chooses to neglect the
statement in hopes of purchasing something for Mangan s sister. Thus he climbs on a deserted
train and makes his way to Araby. Once he arrives he is meet with the greater part of the hall in

Green Cities As A Pollution To The Green City
The urbanization which has been growing rapidly in the early twenty first century is going along
with the issues related to jobs, housing, transportation, and the polluted environment within urban
areas. In order to deal with those issues, green cities has been given as a great solution. Green city
is a program of building smart constructions and technologies that are friendly with the environment
, and establishing the smart growth policies to resolve the economic, social, and as well as
environmental issues in the city. There are some opinions claimed that green cities should not be
developed due to the high cost and negative environmental effects. Despite those opposing opinions,
green city would still be an effective program for the sustainabilityof the city by creating more
jobs, reducing traffic congestion, and protecting the environment. While the cities officials are
considering whether they should establish the policies of building green cities, there are some
opinions that oppose the program. For example, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, Randal O
Toole, claims that public transportation especially the rail transit has some limitations since it
requires high cost of making rail cars to make sure they are safe and the high cost of building more
rail lines. Therefore, it would be hard for a city to develop the public transportation system if it
cannot afford the funding. Another problem comes with the green cities is that it might cause some
negative effects

Resurrection The Apostles
Dr. Sean McDowell is a published author and speaker who holds a PhD in Apologetics. He is
well known as an apologist and serves as Assistant Professor in the Christian Apologetics program
at Biola University, while also still teaching at the high school level. McDowell began to dig
deeper into the study of the Apostles fate after an apologetics mission trip to Berkley University.
After his students were challenged with providing proof of the Apostle s deaths, he began to seek
out a comprehensive history on these narratives, and found out that there were very little resources
that sought out an encompassing and tested historical picture of the traditional death narratives.
While these stories of the Apostle s willingness to die does not prove... Show more content on

The first is Peter, who is even eluded to by Christ himself in John 21:18 19. The text seems to
point to Peter s crucifixion, and aligns with the other sources that place his death in the 60 s
AD. This, along with references from early church fathers and at least ten other extra biblical
sources give confidence to Peter being martyred for the faith. The second discussed is Paul, and
scripture can again be referenced in his path to martyrdom. II Timothy 4:6 7 speaks of Paul
already being poured out, and would be understood by its readers. There are also references by
early church fathers, Clement, Ignatius, and Polycarp. James the brother of Jesus has strong and
early extrabiblical accounts of his martyrdom, including Gnostic sources and references from
Josephus. James son of Zebedee is also a reliable example, with outside references, and the
narrative itself is found in Acts 12, describing his death by Herod s order. McDowell gives us two
other Apostles whose martyrdom he would not place as solid in regards to historical evidence, but
reasonably believed. The first is Thomas, whose records within the eastern scholars are numerous,
but dated later. The St. Thomas Christians of southern India hold strong to the story that he was
martyred by being speared to death. Andrew is another, whose historical accounts also show up
later, around the 2nd century. While there are ancient

nineteenth century New York has been home to some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. For
many tourists that come to New York City, the first thing they want to see is the skyscrapers of

The S. Paul Building stood at 315 feet tall. The architect and engineer for this building was
George B. Post, the same man who put up the World Building. This building was located on
Broadway, and Ann Street. This building was eventually demolished in 1958. Many critics
called the St. Paul Building the least attractive design of all the New York skyscrapers. Just one
year after the St. Paul Building was opened; the Park Row building was opened on Ann Street
and Park Row. The construction of this building started in 1896, and this building took only
three years to complete. In the 1890 s advances in steel frame construction opened up new
opportunities for developers. Before steel frame construction, buildings with more than eight
stories had to have very thick lower floors for support. We have to accredit the steel construction
of this building to R.H. Robertson. Mr. Robertson said that when he was drawing up the plans
for this building he wanted to make it look smaller what it actually was. This building is 391 feet
tall and it was the tallest building in New York City in 1899, before the Park Row Building was
put up the Manhattan Life Insurance Building held the title for the tallest building. This
building has 26 floors, and a semi circle bay of 10 elevators. In 1899 about four thousand people
worked in the Park Row Building. The Park Row Building is still standing today. The Park Row
Building is located at 15 Park Row, across the street from City Hall.

Taking a Look at the Carina Nebula
The Carina Nebula Since the beginning of time, man has looked up to the stars and reveled in
its beauty, believing that only gods can be responsible for creating such a beautiful night time
sky. For centuries humans have grappled with questions relating to the sky and our place as
humans in the cosmos. In today s modern age, it seems that most of us (myself included) forget
to look up and appreciate nature s mysterious beauty. For this reason, I chose the most beautiful
and mysterious place in the sky to do my research on, the Carina Nebula. The Carina Nebula
takes up a vast amount of space and is home to thousands of stars that are both young and old
that can offer new information to us about stars. This nebula not only holds secrets that still
puzzle astronomers to this day, but also offers us answers that we thought we might have never
gotten. The first thing you might be wondering is, what exactly is a nebula? Well according to
Franknoi, a nebula is A cloud of interstellar gas and dust that can be seen to glow with visible
light or invisible light (Franknoi 532). The Carina Nebula was formed approximately 3 million
years ago in the Southern region of the Milky Way in the Carina constellation. It is located
roughly 7,500 light years away from earth, which is relatively close in special terms, and even
bright enough to be seen from south of the earth s equator. It was discovered by French
astronomer, Nicolas Louis de Lacaille, in 1751 from the Cape of Good Hope in

me to be at par with my interviewee in not claiming or accusing of immorality in his consumption

various amounts of questions, I learned about the trustGE has in Advil due to his loyalty to the

Theu.s. Housing And Urban Development Essay
The failure of the United States government to sufficiently care for their men and women in the
military can be seen in the number of homeless veterans. In fact, the U.S. Housing and Urban
development (H.U.D.) reports there are over 39,000 members of the armed services living on the
street (2016). The main causes of homelessnessamong veterans include lack of housing, jobs, and
access to healthcare (National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, n.d.). Veterans run a higher risk of
becoming homeless if they are: suffering from a mental illness or substance abuse problem; do not
have a support system; or have a disability (Ainslie Cooper, 2016).
Nature and Scope A homeless veteran homelessness is defined as a U.S. service members, with an
honorable discharge, who is unable to find and/or sustain reliable housing (Ainslie Cooper, 2016).
Many service men and women leave their military life to find it difficult to assimilate back into
civilian life which can result in homelessness. First, the occupations they held as soldiers do not
convey in the private sector (National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, n.d.). Second, many of the
men and women who have served our country suffer from PTSD and/or other mental health
disorders, substance abuse, or co occurring disorders (National Coalition for Homeless Veterans,
n.d.). Last, they lack support from their family, friends, and community (National Coalition for
Homeless Veterans, n.d.). Incidentally, homeless service

Effects Of Containment In The Korean War
Containment in the Korean War
With the help of militaristic and economic aid from Soviet Russia, North Korea had South Korea
cornered in the Pusan Perimeter by September of 1950 and a communist victory looked inevitable.
However, the United States ditched their policy of isolationism and joined the war effort alongside
other United Nations forces and supported South Korea. Since the North Koreans now had to send
their supplies all the way down to their soldiers in Pusan, General Douglas MacArthur took
advantage of this and instead of using ground forces to fight the North Koreans in Pusan,
MacArthur used the United States Navy to flank the supply line in the Battle of Inchon which
occurred in September of 1950. This allowed the United States to take back the capital, Seoul, for
South Korea which weakened the North Koreans on top of the blockaded supply line. After
Inchon was destroyed, United States ground forces moved upwards. On September 25th of 1950,
the North Koreans took back Seoul so the United States released an air raid on the North Koreans.
By October 7th, the Unites States Forces crossed the pre war border. The North Koreans were
pushed up close to the Chinese border when China threatened to send troops into Korea. MacArthur
had similar ideals as Senator Joseph McCarthy in that they felt that the US was being too soft on
communism and needed to do more about it (Mattingly). So when China threatened to send troops
in, MacArthur thought that China was bluffing and

The stranglehold of the old elites (the conservative monarchists, established families, and
merchants) was breaking down in Iraq. Moreover, the populist pan Arab nationalism of Gamal
Abdel Nasser in Egypt would profoundly influence the young Ba athist, even up to the present day.
The rise of Nasser foreshadowed the wave of revolutions throughout the Middle East in the fifties
and sixties, which would see the collapse of the monarchies of Iraq, Egypt, and Libya. Nasser
challenged the British and French, nationalized the Suez Canal, and strove to modernize Egypt and
unite the Arab world politically.

Rise in the Ba ath party
A year after Saddam had joined the Ba ath party, army officers led by General Abdul Karim
Qassim overthrew Faisal II of Iraq. The Ba athists opposed the new government, and in 1959,
Saddam was involved in the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Qassim. Saddam was shot
in the leg, but managed to flee to Syria, from where he later moved to Egypt. He was sentenced to
death, in absentia. In exile he attended the University of Cairo law school.
Army officers, including some aligned with the Ba ath party, came to power in Iraq in a military
coup in 1963. However, the new government was ousted quickly, within seven to eight months
torn by rife factionalism. Saddam returned to Iraq, but was imprisoned in 1964 when an anti Ba
ath group led by Abdul Rahman Arif took power. He escaped from jail in 1967 and became one of

width by fifteen foot in length by eight foot in height room. In this essay i will describe the area
of my room without using the actual names of each item. There is one door and one window
within the room. In the middle of the ceiling is a white mechanism with rotating blades that helps
cool the air. Each blade is made of a fibrous material. In the middle of the mechanism is four
fixtures that spread out about four inches away from each other and illuminate the entire room.
Small metallic cords hang from the mechanism that are used to change the speed of the rotating
blades and the brightness of the illuminating fixtures. As you look down at the ground, you can see

Alicia Keys Song
This Girl is on Fire Alicia Keys
Oh, we got our feet on the ground and we re burning it down. Oh, got our head in the clouds and
we are not coming down. THIS GIRL IS ON FIRE! So you must be thinking how does song
lyrics from an amazing Alicia Keys song have to do anything about my timeline about
something that has deeply impacted me. Well just like the title of the song says, this girl (aka
me) was actually on fire. Everything that led up to that moment was ordinary, but afterwards my
life turned upside down, and everything that I had ever believed changed. Now you must be
thinking, when I saw her in class she seemed to be totally fine no scars or anything just some
very loud cheerful girl that you might have to keep an eye on. Just like the song lyrics said I had

All I will say is that my dress and my right foot were on fire, and I was surrounded by fire making it
impossible for me to STOP DROP AND ROLL (that so many adults have suggested when I told
them this story). I can tell you that being on fire is very surreal. At least for me it was. It was the
longest 60 seconds of my life. I thought I was going to die. Even after the 2 hours of me screaming
like a maniac in the ambulance as I was taken to the emergency room, and was comfortably
sitting in a bed with my foot up in bandages my first thought was why did this happen to me? I
only heard things like this happening to random people on news channels. That was the day when
I realized that I wasn t invincible (no I wasn t the narcissistic little girl). I just realized that
anything can happen to anyone, and you should always be cautious and prepare yourself for
anything because you aren t invincible and neither is the President of the United States. I became

Napoleon as the Betrayer to the French Revolution Essay...
Napoleon as the Betrayer to the French Revolution
Napoleon Bonaparte has remained one of history s most furiously debated characters. This is
because there has been much speculation and many differing interpretations of his actions as
leader of France from 1799 1815. Most historians tend to have been torn between the portraits of
Napoleon as the heir of the Revolution or as the destroyer of the Revolution s most sacred
principles. However, a third opinion has emerged that suggests that Napoleon made revolutionary
ideas practical and therefore acted as a bridge between the Ancien Regime and the lofty ideals of
the Revolution.

Napoleon realised that religion was of great importance to the people of France. He managed to
agree to a Concordat between France and the Pope that recognised Roman Catholicism as France s
principle religion and sees the Pope as the head of the Roman Catholic Church. However, Napoleon
managed to introduce further terms that effectively made France in charge of religion.
The view that supports Napoleon as the defender of the Revolution is Napoleon himself!
Emmanuel de Las Cases, who accompanied Napoleon into exile on St. Helena, was the author of
Napoleon s main biography, The Legend of Napoleon . In his writings, Napoleon became the
founder of the Revolution and the protagonist of its achievements. He preserved the principles of
liberty and equality, confirmed the destruction of feudalism, united the fractions within France and
propagated the principles of the Revolution abroad. In the 1830s and 1840s, the Napoleonic
Legend arose in France. People in France yearned for the excitement and adventure of Napoleon
and his legend provided this. Napoleon actually himself believed that he was the heir to the
Revolution and that he made the principles work for France.
However, many historians view Napoleon differently. They see his reforms for France as
increasingly autocratic. They perceive that the Legend glorified Napoleon

How Does Temperature Effect Earthworms?
Introduction
When one thinks of earthworms usually one thinks about slimy and nasty creatures that are only
used for fishing. Wrong! If there were no worms on earth, farms and many plants could not be
properly maintained. This paper will explain how important earthworms are to the earth and to our
environment. In addition, this paper will cover the origin of an earthworm, the anatomy and other
important characteristics. Origin The origin of earthworms were said to be on earth around 200
millions ago. Their ancestors were marine worms, existing before there was even soil on this planet
and vegetation. These worms underwent a slow process of adapting themselves to a new ... Show

Earthworms slowly bring soil to the surface and cover objects on the ground. This is one reason
why archaeologists have to dig down underneath the ground to find fossils. Night crawlers burrows
can go as far as 15 feet underground. Night crawlers have something that no other animal has. They
have five pairs of hearts. The hearts pump blood with the earthworm s muscular contractions. Only
two main blood vessels make up the earthworms body. The ventral blood vessel sends blood to the
rear end of the worm. The dorsal vessels pumps blood to the front end of the body and blood
travels through the ventral vessels into the capillaries on the body wall and the many other organs.
Anatomy The body of the earthworms is considered slimy and weird. Earthworm s body contains
80% water and 70% protein. Fat makes up anywhere from 1 to 17 percent. The body divided into
100 segments. These segments contain a pair of metanephridia, which drain the adjacent anterior
segments. The bristles help the earthworm hold its ground when trying to be pulled from its
burrow. For instance, a bird pulls off 6 to 7 segments; therefore new segments will grow back.
Earthworms are invertebrates, which mean they have no backbone. The mucus on the body helps
the worm travel through their burrow smoothly. As the earthworm travels underground the mucus
holds the dirt from collapsing on the worm.

Descriptive Essay About My House
I have lived in the same small house on Honey Creek road my entire life. The front yard is full of
bright green grass, that stands just a little too tall. One ditch is on each side of the long black
cement driveway. At the beginning of the driveway are two large, solid boulders. My front yard
is large compared to the neighboring yards. It is where my siblings and I would play tag and
other games during late summer nights and would build snowmen on cold winter evenings. The
same yard that my brother has spent countless hours push mowing the too tall, bright green grass.
Looking at the front view of my house, the siding is a light gray and covers the entirety of the one
story house. There is a tall red brick chimney off to the right but is hardly ever caught breathing
smoke. The roofing is a dark bluewith black speckles and the front door is a matching blue painted
on very thick. On the front door is a brownwreath hung by a burlap bow. The word family, in a
bubbly font, is neatly centered in the middle of the wreath. Inside the blue front door is the
largest room where my family and I are almost always together. Three of the walls are a soft

Retention In Nursing
An administrative problem as complex as recruitment and retention creates complex and long term
planning, implementation, monitoring, maintenance and considerable foresight to manage current
projects and project future needs. Many of the recommendations can begin immediately but the
measured results may not be seen for nearly a decade. Leadershipin rural health settings fall under
two areas, just like the nurses that serve the same facilities; long term and those building a career.
Administrators and priorities can change, effecting the ultimate results due to reallocation of time,
talent and treasure. Staying the course on increasing rural nurse recruitment and retention is at the
core of the issue. Documented shortages have been discussed since the mid 1940 s (Fletcher, 1954)
when nursing was considered a critical occupation. If our predecessors had developed and
maintained good recruitment and retention strategies, where would we be today? Imagery of the
profession is easily addressed and the timeline is essentially immediate. Working with the marketing

THE EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL CAPITALISM
Adam Smith argued that Individuals who were allowed to pursue rationally their own economic
self interest would benefit society as well as themselves (Sherman Salisbury, 2008, p.187). This
argument helped industrial capitalism grow in the 19th and 20th centuries. Industrial capitalism
affected the bourgeoisieand the working class. Although the bourgeoisie gained money and power,
the working class suffered through poor working conditions.
The bourgeoisie, also known as the middle class, gained money and power as the industrial
capitalism got stronger. They consisted of merchants, tradesmen, and professionals. In the middle
class, the men worked outside the home to support their families, while the women stayed at home

In addition, the children obtained a mere fraction of that pay. Therefore, factories employed women
and children more often than men. The owners even created contracts with orphanages to hire
cheap child laborers to save money (Sherman Salisbury, 2008, p. 277).
In the 19th century, industrial capitalism began to gain more power in the form of monopolies.
Rockefeller s Standard Oil Trust was one of these monopolies. His company destroyed smaller and
weaker oil companies to become a larger corporation.
On May 15, 1911, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Standard Oil Cartel was a
menace to the Republic and ordered it to be broken up:
For the safety of the Republic we (U.S. Supreme Court) now decree that the dangerous conspiracy
must be ended by Nov. 15, 1911 (John D. A Portrait in Oils, p. 154).
Rockefeller vowed revenge against the U.S. and used his vast fortune to BUY the U.S. government.
The breakup of the Standard Oil monolith resulted in about 37 new companies. Rockefeller still
secretly controlled them all by owning a voting majority of stock in the new corporation. Thus
Standard Oil would be known as Standard Oil New Jersey (Exxon), Standard Oil New York
(Mobil), Standard Oil Indiana (Amoco), Standard Oil California (Chevron), Atlantic Refining
(Arco) etc., etc.

Preserving Order in Luther and Hobbes Essay
Preserving Order in Luther and Hobbes
Both Martin Luther and Thomas Hobbes believe in preserving order. Their writings paint pictures
of strong sovereigns and obedient subjects. Yet while both men see it as wrong to overthrow a
sovereign, they recognize that sovereigns are overthrown and that the sovereigns must do what they
can to prevent this. On top of that both men see different causes for their sovereigns creation, set
different ends for their sovereigns, and would limit the actions of the sovereigns to those specific
ends. Hobbes, whose sovereign is created as an alternative to the state of nature, places the
possibility of the state collapsing as the limits of that sovereign s power. Luther, whose rulers are
appointed by God, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He writes that there are two different kinds of people. One kind of person is the true Christian,
who does not need rulers but would willingly do more than is asked by any ruler. The other kind
of person is someone who, without a strong ruler, would cause disorder. The rulers keep these
people in line. God appoints them and, like the peasants, they will be called in the end to justify to
God what they have done.
What limits do the two men place upon their rulers? The most obvious limits are the conditions for
which the sovereign may be overthrown. Neither Hobbes nor Luther are in favor of a sovereign
being overthrown and both talk against the idea of men judging their rulers. However, at the same
time they do caution their rulers to acknowledge the limits that the risk of being overthrown
imposes on them.
Both men say that is wrong for the people to judge their rulers. Hobbes disapproval comes from his
understanding of the nature of the relationship between sovereign and subjects. For him it would be
wrong because the sovereign, having been given the assignment to keep peace, must be given also
the means. Judging the sovereign would come to close too denying the sovereign the means to do
his job and bringing the commonwealth back towards the state of nature.
Luther does not use the same method of definition and argument and nor does he view the
relationship between sovereign and subjects as a voluntary contract. His

The “Modern” Classroom. If You Were To Ask A Group Of

THE MODERN CLASSROOM If you were to ask a group of people of varying ages today to

of the crowd. A box shaped room with rows of small, confining desks, and a whiteboard or

question 200 years ago, you would probably get the same response. Why does the classroom of the
21st centurylook so similar to the classrooms of the 1800 s? Have we really gone nearly two

Theme Of Conflict In Ayn RandBy Equality 7-2521
The writing of the author s work depicts the author s purpose in the novel. With the tragic
society that Equality 7 2521 survives in, it not only proclaims the major conflicts in the story,
but also passes along Ayn Rand s writing on how it contributes to expressing the conflicts even
further. The prime conflict is individualism itself in a world that doesn t follow the philosophy
of one s attributions to be upheld. It doesn t exist because of a society that sways the course of
people s lives, coming in the way to maintain an atmosphere with no higher power than another.
We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and

he wants to have for himself in life which is to be in the Home of the Scholars but instead is
assigned to become a Home Sweeper. Moreover, the style that Ayn Rand
uses in her writing gives
the readers the better awareness of how strict the society is that not even the narrator can speak

Heart of Darkness vs. Apocalypse Now Essay
In Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now, both Joseph Conrad and Francis Ford Coppola create
similar statements through their creations as they both centralize their views upon the effects of
environmental changes that affect the human condition. The film Apocalypse Now vaguely reflects
a similar message pursued by Conrad s novella, due to the difference in time period, place setting,
and circumstances in which the film was created. Conrad wrote his novella during British
colonization, focusing upon imperialism. Coppola s film similarly focused upon the barbaric nature
of man, which demonstrates the insanity of the Vietnam War. In Heart of Darkness

Kurtz s lack of restraint and hunger for ivory consumes not only his soul but drains all of his
physical existence. Upon seeing him, Marlow states, I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the
bones of his arm waving (126) . Conrad focuses on the physical features of Kurtz to display the
madness that has consumed him. However, though Kurtz s body is deteriorating, Kurtz s mind
continues to thrive. Conrad shows this in Marlow s shock of witnessing a flame of passion that
remains in Kurtz s eyes as he converses without signs of exhaustion (126). Conrad continues to
describe Kurtz as a shadow composed of tranquility and satisfaction. Conrad s incorporation of
this detail signifies the evil and greed that consumes Kurtz and is reflected through his physique.
However, the power of Kurtz s presence is personified through the action of his words. As the
strength in his voice captures Marlow s attention, it merely reflects his influence upon his
followers. The power reflected through his voice displayed his confidence as well as his position
as a leader for the natives. Hi demeanor displays an air of arrogance that makes others feel less
equal to him. Those who follow him fear him, but also continue to respect him. In Apocalypse Now,
Coppola creates a similar, however unique parallel structure as Willard meets Kurtz.

Essay On Gender Expectations In Romeo And Juliet
In the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare both Romeo and Juliet fit into gender
expectations in some ways. Gender roles are stereotypes that males and females fulfill and each
of the same gender is supposed to follow by a courtesy code. Most gender roles are not being
followed anymore as shown by the fact that women like sports as much as men; men can now stay
at home and have the females in the family work. Although Juliet conforms to genderexpectations
by making irrational decisions, being childish and depending on others, but in some circumstances,
she also defies them by not listening to her father.
To start with, Juliet is easily swayed into rash decisions without thinking them through. Towards the

Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?/ Deny thy father and refuse thy name./ Or, if thou wilt not,

The Universal Time Lapse Capsule
The Universal Time Lapse Capsule, or TLC, is a hand held device shaped like a huge pill with a
dial in the middle for you to decide which time period you would like to travel to. It is still a very
new device that can malfunction at any given time. The Victorian Age is a time period that anyone
from the modern timeperiod would boldly stand out in. People talk, dress, socialize, and entertain
themselves in very different manners. This guide was created to help you survive through this time
era if something were to ever go wrong with your TLC.
Where to fall in Society:
Social classism was a huge deal during the Victorian Age. Everyone only mingled and married
within their class. There are some cases where people married slightly higher or slightly lower,
but those cases were rare. As time traveler that no one has ever heard of, you will best fit in the

rich people came in rarities, therefore they were all acquainted with each other.
Men:
You will best fall under the working class category in the Victorian hierarchy, which is very close
to the bottom of the social pyramid. Life will be very hard and seem unbearable, but you are
strong enough to pull through it. However, you may feel disrespected in certain situations, but you
must remember your place. It is imperative that you do not step out of line with the higher
classmen. These men have the power to throw you in jail if you

Laurent Clerc s Deaf School
Laurent Clerc was born on December 26, 1785. It is believed that Clerc became deaf by falling
off of his high chair into the kitchen fireplace around age one. He had gotten a severe burn on
his right cheek, and a fever developed, and later on his hearing and smelling senses were
damaged. It was never quite clear whether he was born deaf, or if it had been a cause of his
accident. Clerc s parents had tried many different treatments to get Clercs hearing back, although
none of them succeeded.
Clerc did not go to school and didn t learn to read or write. For 11 years Clerc stayed at home
instead of going to school. While at home Clerc spent his time either exploring the village, or
taking care of the animals, such as; cows, turkeys, and horses. Eventually, at age 12 Clercs uncle

Neoclassicism taken literally is new classical which can be understood as a return to the
classical style. The neoclassical idea of returning to the classics in a new style is one that moved
through several art forms starting from the scholastic community in the mid 18th century. The
essence of neoclassical was that it brought many scholars and artists back to Grecian classics
which came to be part of their classics. Music was one of the last art forms touched by the
neoclassicism idea, and even then it only occurred several decades into the 19th century. Of all the
neoclassical composers, Igor Fyodorvich Stravinsky is the one that is the most well known in the
music world for his contributions to the creation of the style. Stravinsky s... Show more content on

Rimsky Korsakov took an interest in the young Stravinsky and ended up teaching him privately
in his home. Having Nikolai as a teacher was beneficial to Stravinsky s as it helped impart to
him the idea and workings of Korsakov s Russian classic style on an intimate level. It must be
said that Nikolai was a well known Russian composer of his time who had worked alongside
Mily Balakirev, Cesar Cui, Modest Mussorgsky, and Alexander Borodin to establish The
Balakirev Circle where they worked to create Russian Classical Music genre. One of the key
points of the Russian Classical style was that it heavily used village songs as part of their work
to enrich their Russian Classical music style. Korsakov s influence on Stravinsky is heavily
reflected in his first major work titled Symphony in E Flat which he dedicated to his teacher.
The symphony itself has many major ideas of his teacher Russian classic style such as the first
movement being in a sonata form, as well as the second movement and finale which pays
homage to Russian folk songs. This symphony with its Russian classical characteristics is the first
glimpse of Stravinsky s ability to take on a new style and produce a musical work that showcased
the essence of the particular style. Stravinsky s chance to work at a new style came after his
second major work, the Scherzo Fantastique. Sergei

Fatalism In The Radical Durkheim And C. W. Mills
This is evident in Frank Pearce s chapter Fatalism in The Radical Durkheim and C. W. Mills
chapter The Promise in The Sociological Imagination as both men place great emphasis on the
fact that our awareness of our everyday lives affect how we behave and react to daily stressors.
However, Pearce s Durkheimianism exceeds what Mill s calls the sociological imagination by
demonstrating that all walks of life suffer no matter their employment or social ranking, but in very
different ways. Additionally, Pearce s explanation on fatalism furthers this point by insisting that
our personal experiences are predetermined due to the greater society in which we live in; thus, the
outcome becomes unavoidable (Pearce 2013:126). For this reason, I contend

Ernest Hemingway s Life And Accomplishments
Ernest William Hemingway was born 1899 in the suburbs of Illinois. Hemingway had a good
relationship with his family. They were so encouraging that he became a singer and musician. With
a rich background he pursued anything that interested him from football to literature. Hemingway
tried to participate in the army but he ended up volunteering for the Red Cross traveling to Europe
and Italy. Married and then divorced in 1929 he dedicated his life to writing and continued the
journey around the world to provide himself with material for his upcoming works. Katherine Anne
Porterwas born in 1889 in Texas, like Hemingway porters parents were very educated, however
they were not rich. Porters family had a traumatic event when her mother died in 1982, deeply
affected her. She also became a musician and educator. However, her life was filled with
disappointments; her rocky marriages, and unsuccessful attempts in movies. Porter became
unhappy and in 1913 she devoted herself to the literature and became a journalist. She traveled
mostly to Mexicoand encouraged the folk art of the locals. Even though the middle of her life
was unsuccessful she was later appointed chair of poetry and literature at the Library of
Congress. Both stories were inspired by the places that writers went the most, Porter s Flowering
Judas is set in Mexico and Hemingway s Big Two Hearted Riverin set in the country side full of
hills and lush pine trees. Also, each character embodied a

The Pros And Cons Of Drunk Driving
Cops rush to the scene of a tragic accident, where two cars are crumpled on the road. One
minivan, carrying a group of teenagers going home, laid upside down in a ditch. The other
vehicle, a truck driven by a drunk man, sat with a flattened front end in the middle of the
highway. The drunk driver came out of the wreck virtually unscathed compared to the teenagers.
Two teenagers were horribly injured, while the third teen was killed. This is an example of what
can happen when a driver gets behind the wheel while intoxicated. Innocent lives could be lost and
many people can be injured by irresponsible drivers. According to the article Drunk Driving, more
than ten thousand fatalities are caused by impaired driving every year. Also, 1.4 million drivers
were arrested for driving under the influenceof alcohol and drugs ( Drunk Driving ). Even though
many efforts, such as increase in police patrol and slightly higher fines, drunk driving is still a
major problem in the United States. Many people have proposed solutions to the drinking and
driving problem. These solutions include, educating people to know the risks of drunk driving,
and other people think that there should less laws on drunk driving, or legalize it all together. A
great solution that could deter people from drinking and driving, is to make fines higher than they
already are and have longer jail sentences for each DUI a person commits. This solution would
keep people from driving under the influence(DUI) because

Numerous Accomplishments of Johann Heinrich Lambert
Johann Heinrich Lambert was born 26 August 1728 in Mulhouse, present day Alsace, France.
His father was a tailor named Lukas Lambert, whose father was also a tailor. The family was not
well off and at the age of twelve young Johann Lambert he had to begin working for his father
which forced him to leave school. As he continued to work for his father he did not forgo his
studies. He filled his time in which he was not helping his father with reading and learning
scientific subjects on his own. He had a desire to learn and expand his knowledge that drove him
to study. Even without a formal education or teachers to lead him he learned on his own
beginning at a young age. At the age of fifteen he began work as a clerk to support his family and ...

In color theory Tobias Mayer was a big influence on Lambert. Tobias Mayer s color triangle was
first published in 1775. The physicist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg published the color triangle in
an edition called Opera Inedita . This was a suggestion of Johann Heinrich Lambert, who had used
the Mayer triangle three years previously. A colortriangle operates with the three basiccolors
cinnibar, massicot and azurite and gives all mixtures in which at least one twelfth of another color
is added to a basecolor.
Black and white are treated as the representatives of light and darkness, which in turn either lighten
or darken the colors.
In 1758 more than half a century after Newton s Optics had appeared the German mathematician
and astronomer Tobias Mayer (17231762) gave a lecture to the Gottingen
Academy of Science entitled De affinitive colorum commendation (historical system), in which he
tried to identify the exact number of colors, which the eye is capable of perceiving. He chose red,
yellow and blue as his basic colors, and vermillion, mascot and azurite as their representatives
amongst the pigments. Black and white was considered to be the agents of light and darkness,
which either lighten or darken the colors.
Lambert was an expert in science and math. He was not very interested in the arts until he was
trying to explain light in space. Lambert attempted to explain the structure of the universe in his
writings. About the time he was writing about his theories,

Musical Music Vs Musical Movies
Musical films are those that involve singing and dancing as the main elements by combining
performances of songs and dances. They are usually performed by the main characters, but they
can also bring multiples characters into one musical scene. Movies that bring occasional musical
scenes, such as Dooley Wilson s rendition of As Time Goes By in Casablanca (1943) movie, are
most likely not to be considered a musical film. Musical movies are known for combine movement
and sound as the two basic but most important elements of the film medium. In these type of
movies, the characters communicate or express emotions through songs and dance, allowing
viewers to experience powerful and heart touching scenes through beautiful and meaningful
lyrics. Dancing can also bring a wide variety of emotions even in sad scenes because characters
can put an emotional message behind their physical movements (http://www.filmreference.com).
Choosing films that have similarities and share the same genre was not an easy task but
selecting musical movies became an easy choice. Choosing two films of similar nature and
cultural importance was the main goal. Therefore, Singin in the Rain (1952) and La La Land
(2016) is the perfect matches since they share more than their fair share of striking similarities
and differences. Singin in the Rain was directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly who was one
the main characters along Debbie Reynolds and Donald O Connor. The movie was released in

Breast Cancer And Cancer Prevention
INTRODUCTION
Statistics indicate that breast cancer related complications are among the top causes of death
among women for over 23% of all women s deaths in the world (Donepudi et al., 2014). The great
cases of breast cancer are attributed to lack of information on and hard data on the disease,
especially on early diagnosis and treatment options. In America, breast cancer is among the top
causes of cancer related deaths, and the mortality rate is relatively high as compared to the
neighboring countries in the Americas (Lucian, 2013). Several organizations have been formed to
help in the efforts of reducing the high levels of breast cancer in the United States and fighting the
cancer epidemic. Among the top organizations in the forefront against the disease is the Breast
Cancer Action. The Breast Cancer Action is an organization whose primary goal is to provide the
public especially women with information regarding Breast cancer. The organization has embraced
several strategies that include educational and political strategies to fight the breast cancer
pandemic. The organization was founded 1990 by Elenore Pred, who was the founding president
and two of her friends Susan Claymon, and Linda Reyes. It is headquartered in San Francisco. The
Breast Cancer Action has earned a reputation for its approach to tackling breast cancer crisis, which
is based fighting cancer as a public health emergency, and not an individual crisis. Among the
famous campaigns handled by the

He has managed to frame up to the local climate and soils. He has gained a lot of success and contrasted with Thomas Jefferson, who has had a complete washout some hundreds years ago. Paskina, the senior manager of Barboursville winery and other wine sellers have studied well what and how is working in Virginia and now some of their wines have got a merited popularity and leave behind similar wines from even older vineyards. He visited wine making regions of France, Germany and Italy being the envoy in Paris from 1785 till1789. Having come back to the US he has been serving best wines at parties in the White House, subsidizing farmers who tried to grow grape and also has been trying to reduce the wine tax. No one drinks too much there where wine is cheap, and no people remain sober there where the high wine prices make people to abuse strong drinks, he considered. There were only several wineries in Barbousville in the year of foundation; now 120 wineries are scattered on the territory of the whole state. Virginia has become the fifth important wine making state in the USA. Jefferson would be proud of this. After a wine degustation visitors may have dinner in Palladio, the Italian restaurant in the north of Barbousville. However, with the love of food, there generally appear desires for an accommodation of a satisfying environment for further appreciation of the food. For those seeking such sorts, Harry s, a locally owned restaurant in Moss Bluff, deserves recommendation on account of the comfortable atmosphere, pleasant food served, and the friendly staff. The restaurant building rests in the same concrete lot as a Five Star Quick Stop convenience store off of highway 171 of Moss Bluff. To the right of the convenience store is Joe Miller Road. To the left of Five Star is Harry s and it connects directly to a casino. The casino and the restaurant are owned by the same people. The white tin like roof on the building provides a contrast to three maroon signs separated by two green signs propped adjacent to them, capturing the attention of those passing by. Wrapping around the red bricked restaurant and casino are several yellow lines that fill with a variety of vehicles. Four blacked out windows situated directly under the large maroon sign displaying Harry s Restaurant in a creamy white font decorate the building s face. Approximately two feet of bricks separate the windows and the black glass door entrance. Upon entering the restaurant stands a brown booth on the left. From behind the booth a rather youthful and welcoming female greets guests walking in through the glass doors. Despite the somewhat tight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Theme Of Persistence In Where The Red Fern Grows The great physician George Sheehan once said, Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be. Sheehan meant in this quote that you can do anything if you are willing to use your willpower and energy to do so. This leads to the theme shown in Where the Red Fern Grows by Mr.Rawls. In the development of the book Where the Red Fern Grows the main theme persistence will lead to your own success is shown strongly throughout. To demonstrate the means of how Rawls showed the previously stated theme we shall start from the beginning. Persistence can be seen through the use of time with determination and purpose. A year passed. I was twelve. I was over the halfway... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Billy was loyal, he was loyal to his idea of having two dogs at the start of this tale and now he s being loyal to listen to his promise with his dogs. He s making sure that he does what he says. In this way he is always doing his best or as the theme suggests being persistent to following through with his word. Even though his arms and back felt horrible he kept going and even with the questioning of his father he didn t back down. This ties into persistence because persistence means the following of a man s(or woman) thoughts or ideas. Billy felt that he must complete the chopping of the tree even though his dad told him time and time again. He knew that he had to persist his way through. This is yet only one of the many times Rawls shows the true theme of this book. Subsequently, the theme is shown again as the story continues on. Here Grandpa shows his determination to getting Billy in a hunting contest.. Billy, he said, it takes some doing to have a set of dogs entered in this hunt. I ve been working on this for months. I ve written letters on top of letters. I ve even had several good friends in town helping me. You see, I ve kept a record of all the coons your dogs have caught, and believe me, their catch is up there with the best of them (Rawls 157). • 5. The Gap Of Quality Of Life Essay I.Introduction The problem that I am going to focus on this research paper is the gap of quality of life(QOL) between panic disorder patients, nonclinical panickers and normal people without panic disorder. In 2009, The National Institute of Mental Health announced that about six million American adults suffer from panic disorder(PD). Panic attacks are defined as sudden bursts of emotions which include fear of dying and losing control and so on. Most of the people suffer from occasional panic attacks but not all of them develop into panic disorder. People who have worries about recurring panic attacks have more frequent panic attacks than the others who do not. People who have genetic predisposition, had extremely unpleasant early childhood experience with anxiety and risk, and having to face challenging changes on becoming an independence adult are more like to have PD. One out of 75 people suffer from panic disorder and it usually appear during the teen or early adulthood. It is also said that having a family member with panic disorder will increase the risk of it in other family members. PD is highly treatable with psychotherapy such as cognitive behavior therapy or medication or both. Since PD symptoms are very similar to heart attacks or other life threatening condition such as shortness of breath or hyperventilation, sweating, heart palpitations, chest pain, trembling, dizziness, and hot or cold flashes, there are more chances to be misinterpreted those symptoms and ... Types Of State And Independent Schools Schools as organisations 1.1Identify the main types of state and independent schools Foundation and trust schools Community schools Specialist schools Independent schools Academies Free schools Sixth form colleges Single sex schools Faith schools Grammar schools Primary and secondary schools 1.2Describe the characteristics of the different types of schools in relation to educational stage(s) and school governance Foundation and trust schools Foundation schools are owned by their own governing body. They confirm the admission policy with the help of the local education authority. The school is owned by the governing body or a charity organisation, they will also own the land and the buildings of the school. A trust school is similar to a foundation school but they create a charity trust with an external partner E.g. A business. To become a trust school, it will need to be accepted by the governing body whilst consulting parents. Community schools They are owned by the local authority which supports the school creating associations with the local community and also offering support services. • 9. Araby Light And Darkness Essay Light and Darkness: Imagery in James Joyce s Araby James Joyce s Araby presents a short story of a young male whose infatuation leads him to a bazaar called Araby. Hence, the title of the story. Joyce uses the narrator s infatuation to drive the story. Emotions such as desire, despair, and hope are conveyed through the usage of light and darkness. This contrast is present throughout the short story. Joyce uses setting, tone, and epiphany to depict how the narrator s dreams are not connected to the reality of his every day life. The story begins with the narrator describing the environment in which he lives to show how mundane, and routine his daily life is. The narrator lives on the blind North Richmond Street which is secluded and desolate. Here, the narrator attends a Christian s Boys School and is set free every evening to return to the house in which he lives. The houses, nonetheless, are described as having brown imperturbable faces. The calm face of the houses parallel the type of lives the narrator and surrounding neighbors lives. The only source of relief from the reoccurring habits in the neighborhood is when the narrator and his friends play behind the houses.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Green Cities As A Pollution To The Green City The urbanization which has been growing rapidly in the early twenty first century is going along with the issues related to jobs, housing, transportation, and the polluted environment within urban areas. In order to deal with those issues, green cities has been given as a great solution. Green city is a program of building smart constructions and technologies that are friendly with the environment , and establishing the smart growth policies to resolve the economic, social, and as well as environmental issues in the city. There are some opinions claimed that green cities should not be developed due to the high cost and negative environmental effects. Despite those opposing opinions, green city would still be an effective program for the sustainabilityof the city by creating more jobs, reducing traffic congestion, and protecting the environment. While the cities officials are considering whether they should establish the policies of building green cities, there are some opinions that oppose the program. For example, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, Randal O Toole, claims that public transportation especially the rail transit has some limitations since it requires high cost of making rail cars to make sure they are safe and the high cost of building more rail lines. Therefore, it would be hard for a city to develop the public transportation system if it cannot afford the funding. Another problem comes with the green cities is that it might cause some negative effects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The text seems to point to Peter s crucifixion, and aligns with the other sources that place his death in the 60 s AD. This, along with references from early church fathers and at least ten other extra biblical sources give confidence to Peter being martyred for the faith. The second discussed is Paul, and scripture can again be referenced in his path to martyrdom. II Timothy 4:6 7 speaks of Paul already being poured out, and would be understood by its readers. There are also references by early church fathers, Clement, Ignatius, and Polycarp. James the brother of Jesus has strong and early extrabiblical accounts of his martyrdom, including Gnostic sources and references from Josephus. James son of Zebedee is also a reliable example, with outside references, and the narrative itself is found in Acts 12, describing his death by Herod s order. McDowell gives us two other Apostles whose martyrdom he would not place as solid in regards to historical evidence, but reasonably believed. The first is Thomas, whose records within the eastern scholars are numerous, but dated later. The St. Thomas Christians of southern India hold strong to the story that he was martyred by being speared to death. Since the late nineteenth century New York has been home to some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. Just one year after the St. Paul Building was opened; the Park Row building was opened on Ann Street and Park Row. The construction of this building started in 1896, and this building took only three years to complete. In the 1890 s advances in steel frame construction opened up new opportunities for developers. Taking a Look at the Carina Nebula The Carina Nebula Since the beginning of time, man has looked up to the stars and reveled in its beauty, believing that only gods can be responsible for creating such a beautiful night time sky. For centuries humans have grappled with questions relating to the sky and our place as humans in the cosmos. In today s modern age, it seems that most of us (myself included) forget to look up and appreciate nature s mysterious beauty. For this reason, I chose the most beautiful and mysterious place in the sky to do my research on, the Carina Nebula. The Carina Nebula takes up a vast amount of space and is home to thousands of stars that are both young and old that can offer new information to us about stars. This nebula not only holds secrets that still puzzle astronomers to this day, but also offers us answers that we thought we might have never gotten. The first thing you might be wondering is, what exactly is a nebula? Well according to Franknoi, a nebula is A cloud of interstellar gas and dust that can be seen to glow with visible light or invisible light (Franknoi 532). The Carina Nebula was formed approximately 3 million years ago in the Southern region of the Milky Way in the Carina constellation. It is located roughly 7,500 light years away from earth, which is relatively close in special terms, and even bright enough to be seen from south of the earth s equator. • 16. Effects Of Containment In The Korean War Containment in the Korean War With the help of militaristic and economic aid from Soviet Russia, North Korea had South Korea cornered in the Pusan Perimeter by September of 1950 and a communist victory looked inevitable. However, the United States ditched their policy of isolationism and joined the war effort alongside other United Nations forces and supported South Korea. Since the North Koreans now had to send their supplies all the way down to their soldiers in Pusan, General Douglas MacArthur took advantage of this and instead of using ground forces to fight the North Koreans in Pusan, MacArthur used the United States Navy to flank the supply line in the Battle of Inchon which occurred in September of 1950. This allowed the United States to take back the capital, Seoul, for South Korea which weakened the North Koreans on top of the blockaded supply line. After Inchon was destroyed, United States ground forces moved upwards. On September 25th of 1950, the North Koreans took back Seoul so the United States released an air raid on the North Koreans. By October 7th, the Unites States Forces crossed the pre war border. The North Koreans were pushed up close to the Chinese border when China threatened to send troops into Korea. MacArthur had similar ideals as Senator Joseph McCarthy in that they felt that the US was being too soft on communism and needed to do more about it (Mattingly). Napoleon as the Betrayer to the French Revolution Napoleon Bonaparte has remained one of history s most furiously debated characters. This is because there has been much speculation and many differing interpretations of his actions as leader of France from 1799 1815. Most historians tend to have been torn between the portraits of Napoleon as the heir of the Revolution or as the destroyer of the Revolution s most sacred principles. Emmanuel de Las Cases, who accompanied Napoleon into exile on St. Helena, was the author of Napoleon s main biography, The Legend of Napoleon . In his writings, Napoleon became the founder of the Revolution and the protagonist of its achievements. He preserved the principles of liberty and equality, confirmed the destruction of feudalism, united the fractions within France and propagated the principles of the Revolution abroad. • 26. Retention In Nursing An administrative problem as complex as recruitment and retention creates complex and long term planning, implementation, monitoring, maintenance and considerable foresight to manage current projects and project future needs. Many of the recommendations can begin immediately but the measured results may not be seen for nearly a decade. Leadershipin rural health settings fall under two areas, just like the nurses that serve the same facilities; long term and those building a career. Administrators and priorities can change, effecting the ultimate results due to reallocation of time, talent and treasure. Staying the course on increasing rural nurse recruitment and retention is at the core of the issue. Documented shortages have been discussed since the mid 1940 s (Fletcher, 1954) when nursing was considered a critical occupation. • 27. THE EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL CAPITALISM Adam Smith argued that Individuals who were allowed to pursue rationally their own economic self interest would benefit society as well as themselves (Sherman Salisbury, 2008, p.187). This argument helped industrial capitalism grow in the 19th and 20th centuries. Industrial capitalism affected the bourgeoisieand the working class. Although the bourgeoisie gained money and power, the working class suffered through poor working conditions. The owners even created contracts with orphanages to hire cheap child laborers to save money (Sherman Salisbury, 2008, p. 277). In the 19th century, industrial capitalism began to gain more power in the form of monopolies. Rockefeller s Standard Oil Trust was one of these monopolies. His company destroyed smaller and weaker oil companies to become a larger corporation. On May 15, 1911, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Standard Oil Cartel was a menace to the Republic and ordered it to be broken up: For the safety of the Republic we (U.S. Supreme Court) now decree that the dangerous conspiracy must be ended by Nov. 15, 1911 (John D. A Portrait in Oils, p. 154). Rockefeller vowed revenge against the U.S. and used his vast fortune to BUY the U.S. government. The breakup of the Standard Oil monolith resulted in about 37 new companies. Rockefeller still secretly controlled them all by owning a voting majority of stock in the new corporation. Thus Standard Oil would be known as Standard Oil New Jersey (Exxon), Standard Oil New York (Mobil), Standard Oil Indiana (Amoco), Standard Oil California (Chevron), Atlantic Refining (Arco) etc., etc. Labor unions started to form in the late 18th century; though it was during the 20th century that they began to grow. • 28. Preserving Order in Luther and Hobbes Essay Preserving Order in Luther and Hobbes Both Martin Luther and Thomas Hobbes believe in preserving order. Their writings paint pictures of strong sovereigns and obedient subjects. Yet while both men see it as wrong to overthrow a sovereign, they recognize that sovereigns are overthrown and that the sovereigns must do what they can to prevent this. On top of that both men see different causes for their sovereigns creation, set different ends for their sovereigns, and would limit the actions of the sovereigns to those specific ends. Hobbes, whose sovereign is created as an alternative to the state of nature, places the possibility of the state collapsing as the limits of that sovereign s power. One kind of person is the true Christian, who does not need rulers but would willingly do more than is asked by any ruler. The other kind of person is someone who, without a strong ruler, would cause disorder. The rulers keep these people in line. God appoints them and, like the peasants, they will be called in the end to justify to God what they have done. What limits do the two men place upon their rulers? The most obvious limits are the conditions for which the sovereign may be overthrown. Neither Hobbes nor Luther are in favor of a sovereign being overthrown and both talk against the idea of men judging their rulers. However, at the same time they do caution their rulers to acknowledge the limits that the risk of being overthrown imposes on them. Both men say that is wrong for the people to judge their rulers. Hobbes disapproval comes from his understanding of the nature of the relationship between sovereign and subjects. For him it would be wrong because the sovereign, having been given the assignment to keep peace, must be given also the means. Judging the sovereign would come to close too denying the sovereign the means to do his job and bringing the commonwealth back towards the state of nature. Luther does not use the same method of definition and argument and nor does he view the relationship between sovereign and subjects as a voluntary contract. His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
