The Codex Chimalpahin, Interpretation And Critisicm
THE CODEX CHIMALPAHIN, INTERPRETATION AND CRITISICM

October 1, 2017
Domingo Francisco de San Antón Muñón was born in the generations that followed the fall of
Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capitol, by the conquistadors in 1521 . His catholicized name hides his Nahua
background: Chimalpahin Quauhtlehuanitzin . At a young age, Chimalpahin began his education at a
Dominican convent in central Mexico. His education included an extensive knowledge of languages
as well as history and geography . As an adult, this enabled him to act as a transcription and copyist,
he translated Spanish and Latin documents into his native Nahuatl. He often did so with his own ...

In modern literary interpretation, the correspondence of the authors intention with the meaning of the
work, is considered paramount to discerning the true literary meaning of a work . E.D. Hirsch a
renowned literary critic argues that to correctly interpret a text, the interpret must consider the author
and the text s inner and out horizon . To discover the inner horizon, the interpreter must look at the
culture and background of the work and author so they can understand the logic, belief systems, and
historical context that bound the work. The addition of the outer horizon allows the reader to consider
the author s intention in writing the piece. Hirsh establishes that a literary interpretation can be
considered the most probable, if the reader considers the plausibility of the interpretation based on the
context established from the text s horizon, coherence .
Schroeder extensively describes the horizon of the text as well as the horizon of the author and his
intention and evaluates her own claim with data and support.
First, she describes the inner horizon of the text with a description of Nahua culture and background.
She states the codex adheres to annals genre , a traditional form of Nahua record keeping that is based
in oral tradition that was passed down per generation through Elder Nahua scholars given the status of
nobles detailing the complex history of the Mexica through a total

Perceptions Of Literacy Policies And Procedures
The quantative study examined teachers perceptions of literacy policies and procedures, and if
professional developments were made available and beneficial to teachers. The methodology used was
survey research. The authors kept an unbiased tone throughout the article, and used methods such as
sampling, a focus group, measurement and scaling, and statistical analysis. Based on the information
provided in the article, I concluded this is an objectivism epistemology.
They stated that their measurement instrument was reliable, since the test retest (T1 T2) correlated the
coefficient of stability was 0.92. This is an excellent correlation produced by the pilot group of 100 K
6 teachers who completed the survey. I must note according to the authors there was a 4 mo. span
between T1 and T2, this short amount of time between the tests could explain the exceptional results.
The study itself contained around 400 participants and they used the same survey for both the pilot
group and study participants.
There was no hypothesis, and I m not sure if I would call this a literature review, I would have gone
more in depth with the multiple annotations used. At least providing some results from previous
studies. They provided a sufficient amount of statements. Thus, the authors do provide adequate
background knowledge of policies and information regarding the 21st century literacy initiative, and
the support required to insure teachers have the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively

Making Differences Matter
Harvard Business Review September, 1996 / October, 1996 HEADLINE: MAKING DIFFERENCES

Most people assume that workplace diversity is about increasing racial, national, gender, or class
representation in other words, recruiting and retaining more people from traditionally
underrepresented identity groups. Taking this commonly held assumption as a starting point, we set
out six years ago to investigate its link to organizational effectiveness. We soon found that thinking of
diversity simply in terms of identity group representation inhibited effectiveness. Organizations
usually take one of two paths in managing diversity. In the name of equality and fairness, they
encourage (and expect) women and people of color to blend in. Or they set them apart in jobs that
relate specifically to their backgrounds, assigning them, for example, to areas that require them to
interface with clients or customers of the same identity group. African American M.B.A. s often find
themselves marketing products to innercity communities; Hispanics frequently market to Hispanics or
work for Latin American subsidiaries. In those kinds of cases, companies are operating on the
assumption that the main virtue identity groups have to offer is a knowledge of their own people. This
assumption is limited and limiting and detrimental to diversity efforts. What we suggest here is that
diversity goes beyond increasing the number of different identity group affiliations on the payroll to
recognizing that such an effort is merely the first step in managing a diverse workforce for the

The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship
The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship
A relationship provides refuge, love and trust between two partners but every relationship has flaws
that can permanently taint the two individuals and their bond. A major conflict that occurs in many
relationships is domestic abuse. It is the control that a partner in an intimate relationship, who is
usually the male in a heterosexual relationship, tries to exert on the female with methods such as
physical, verbal and sexual abuse (Domestic Violence and Abuse). However, there are many cases in
which women should stay in an abusive relationship rather than evade it because of contributing
factors that revolve around societal views. In the novels, A Thousand Splendid Suns written by Khaled

It is evident that Bobby comes back to kill Fran because he is aggravated that his wife left him with
his child and his hatred for her is apparent since he is on the brink of killing her which portrays his
malicious behaviour. Bobby is enraged and tries to murder her, which he failed to do, but that attempt
is exactly why leaving an abusive relationship is dangerous because the chances of survival for the
victim is very slim. To support this, in 2011, eighty nine incidents were reported to the police about
spousal homicides and at least seventy six of those victims were females and more than half of these
women were killed after they had separated from their abusive partners. The pattern is that the most
dangerous point in a battered woman s life is when she takes the decision to leave her abusive spouse
(The Facts About Violence Against Women). Fran is almost murdered by her abusive husband when
he confronts her after she escapes which demonstrates that women should not escape from the abusive
relationship because their lives are threatened by their abusers especially after they leave. In both of
the novels, the deadly experiences that the battered women face are when they are in the process of
leaving or after they leave. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, instead of the women being murdered,
Rasheed is murdered instead but Mariam

The Importance Of Animal Testing In The United States
Right at about 26 million animals are tested in the united states each year. Animals are used for
research to develop or prolong new medical treatments, check the safety of products for human use,
and other biomedical, commercial, and health care uses. Research on animals has been practiced since
at least 500 BC. Some researchers say that it is inhumane to experiment on animals, there are many
alternative methods to researchers that can replace animal testing, and many animal species are so
different from human life that research on animals often yields irrelevant results. Animal testing in the
United States is regulated by the federal Animal Welfare Act. The AWA requires that each research
facility develop an internal Institutional Animal

Galileo was a coward
Galileo was an Italian natural philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician, who made
fundamental contributions to the sciences of motion, astronomy and strength of materials and
to the development of the scientific method. His discoveries with the telescope changed
astronomy and paved the way for the acceptance of the copernican Heliocentric system.
Galileo, using his own telescope he discovered that the moon has mountains and creators.

Introduction
Chemical equilibrium is the study of change within a chemical reaction and how far it will go to reach
a dynamic equilibrium (Burdge). Dynamic equilibrium is defined as the constant movement of species
in a chemical reaction, gone to incompletion while the rates of production and consumption are equal
(Kf = Kr ) (Burdge). It differs from static equilibrium in that species are constantly being consumed
and produced, it is dynamic movement (Fox). The concentration of such species do not change, it
remains constant (Fox). The rate at which species are being consumed and produced is known as the
equilibrium constant (K) (Burdge). Due to the fact that the concentration

Workplace Ergonomics, Ergonomics Assessment, Ergonomics Training
In the past, most businesses have strived for high production at low cost. This strategy resulted in the
highest profit for a company. When in reality to many businesses, this was only a mirage. This was
because the lower cost of the business usually resulted in a higher cost for the employees. This lower
cost for businesses may have meant lower quality workplace items, lower salaries, less benefits, etc.
These lower costs created an upset workplace environment for the employees. This upset has help

As stated earlier, the focus of this paper is to concentrate on the factors of ergonomics resulting from
office and computer work. One reason is because the world has been faced with an explosion of
computer technology. As more and more work, education and recreation involves computers, everyone
needs to be aware of the hazards of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), also referred to as Cumulative
Trauma Disorder (CTD), to the hands and arms resulting from the use of computer keyboards and
mice. This can be a serious and very painful condition that is far easier to prevent than to cure once
contracted, and can occur even in young physically fit individuals. Most CTD s are preventable and
curable if caught early. The key is to notice trouble when it starts and do something about it. Early
signs may include persistent pain, tingling, numbness, burning, or aching. The signs may be constant
or may occur mostly after certain activities. The drastic cures such as surgery are not reliable and
should be a last resort. Nevertheless, a health professional should be consulted when you are
concerned about possible early signs. (http://www.office ergo.com/alternat.htm). There are also factors
concerning who is more likely to get a CTD than others. Some people

Although Truman Capote writes this narrative to tell about a murder, he must first describe and
enhance the victims to elaborate on their history; therefore, Capote enhances just how senseless crimes
can be.
Capotes tactic is driven by his empathy towards the event of the wronging that took place at the
Clutters house, he utilizes amplification to magnify how senseless the true crime was and to describe
the significance. Capote was much more focused on the development of the characters. He draws the
audience s attention to the Clutter family, specifically their positive characteristics especially Nancy

The Dosage Of Ionizing Radiation Increases The Risk Of Cancer
The Dosage of Ionizing Radiation Increases the Risk of Cancer
On November 8, 1895, a German physics professor named Wilhelm Roentgen discovered x rays. This
advance in technology helped man explore the unknown of the human body without performing
surgery. Only the microscope could compete with x rays in the contribution to medical vision
(Gunderman 2). After the discovery of x rays, researchers found that there were therapeutic and also
cancerous results from radiation emissions. Before this discovery became public, the Radium Watch
Company began coating their watch dials with radium in order for them to glow, to allow owners of
these watches see the time, even at night. However, the women workers, as watch dial painters, at the
company would wet there brushes with their mouths to create a finer point. After months of this
practice, many of the women received cancerous tumors and necrosis of the jaw. As a result, most
were buried in lead lined coffins because of the high emissions of radiation from their bodies. Lead is
now used to shield radiation from patients that are not receiving a full body scan. An x ray is made
from a beam of high energy photons passing through the body which are either diminished or blocked
entirely when they hit subatomic particles, like bone or metal. The denser and thicker the substance
the brighter the image on the radiograph. Both radiological scans, x rays and CT scans both use
ionizing radiation to capture the images of the human body.

The Effect Of Ph On The Ph Level Of A Solution
What is pH? PH (Power of Hydrogen) is the measure of acidity or basicity of any aqueous solution.
The power of hydrogen just means that you are measuring the concentration of the hydrogen ion in a
solution. A sample of 100% pure water has a pH level of 7.0 meaning that it is neutral. It is considered
neutral because of the way the pH scale is set up. The way to measure the pH level of a solution is by
using the pH scale. The pH scale consists of numbers from 0 14. What does these numbers mean? Any
solution that has a number between 0 and 7 is considered to be acidic, and any solution with a number
between 7 and 14 is considered to be basic. As I mentioned earlier, any solution with a pH level less
that 7 is acidic, well along with that, for each number that you go down on the scale, the solution is 10
times more acidic that the one before it. For example, a solution with a pH of 3 is 10 times more acidic
than a solution with a pH level of 4, and it is 100 times more acidic that a solution with a pH level of
5. The same rule applies with the basic solutions; each number that you go up, the basicity of the
solution is 10 times higher than the one below it. The following image shows the pH level of some of
most common daily foods. When it comes to pH, there are two very important things in the world
where pH plays a major role. Those two things are Living things and their bodily functions, and food
production. Those are the two things that I will be focusing on in the

European market. With these two large investments and the opportunity for Russia to expand its oil

Weapons of War The top Russian exported item is oil, but in the realm of diversity the next major

Even though Russia is gaining revenue by a constant war, it will prosper more in the reconstruction
phase. Once the civil war ends Russia will have the sole rights for future arms to fill the void caused
by the war. Russia will have the opportunity to send military advisors and trainers. Also, Russia will
be locked in with maintenance contract and parts to fix the military equipment that Syria has bought.
The Russians have taken the chance to grow its arms trade in the Syrian conflict by selling to both
sides increasing its income. Even though the market in Syria is boosting Russian arms exports, the
conflict in Syria is greatly advancing the arms trade in another way. Since the cold war Russia and the

Mass Density Of An Unknown Metal Essay
The goal of this experiment was to determine the mass density of an unknown metal. Five different
vernier capillaries and double pan balances were used to measure the metal. The plan of action was to
find the average density to reduce random error, in addition to, calculating the standard error to
observe the reliability of proposed average. Ideally, the metal would identify more comparably with
gold or aluminum. The concepts of mass density, standard error, average, one dimensional statistics,
precision / accuracy, and test of accuracy were explored. A hollow cylinder of metal was given to each
lab group. Initially, the mass of the metal was determined with a double pan balance. The metal was
placed on the balance and the instrument s notch and slider was used to interpret the mass. The next
step was determining the inner radius, outer radius and height of the cylinder to find the volume. A
vernier caliper was used to measure those components. The vernier caliper included an inner and outer
jaw that measures length. The results of the double pan balance and vernier caliper was recorded in a
data sheet, and the procedure was repeated five times with different instruments. The data was placed
in an excel file where the mass density, average, standard error, test of accuracy, and general
comparison with the two proposed metals (gold and aluminum) could be analyzed. Table 1 Five

communities. One is the Ik who lived in Uganda and were described as unfortunate people expelled by
an uncaring government. The other, was an imaginary community from the Woody Allen movie
Crimes and Misdemeanors. This community seemed to resemble a community from our present day
upper class with only the best hotels, restaurants, and symphonic recordings. Although these two
groups are very different, they each still follow the criterion of a community. Each are groups of
people who have formed a sort of bond with each other because of a certain lifestyle, interests, or
beliefs. When people use this word in present everyday conversation, their application of the
definition is usually compatible with the first and third definitions of The American College
Dictionary. The second definition, the public, is too general. A community is not only a public, but a
public with a common interest. In my area, when the word community is used, the person is usually
referring to the West Bloomfield community. Talking about symbols and signified, the West
Bloomfield community originally started out as just the group of people who lived in the town of West
Bloomfield. Now the people of the area have come to make The West Bloomfield Community, signify
something entirely different. It currently means any group of people who are wealthy and Jewish no
matter their locality.

Mameluke Culture
The mameluke inspired work Basin (Baptisere de St. Louis) and the Savafid inspired Ardabil Carpet
are both very telling of the cultures that created them. The military advances of both cultures are a
mere pittance compared to the artistic and cultural boom of these societies.
Created by Muhammad ibn al Zain circa 1320 through 1340 out of brass inlaid with gold and silver,
the Basin (Baptisere de St. Louis) is indictidive of mameluke culture. Looking along the sides of the
basin, one can notice the Mameluke manual of horsemanship and military practice.
The Mamluks, the majority of whom were ethnic Turks, were a group of warrior slaves who took
control of several Muslim states and established a dynasty that ruled Egypt and Syria from 1250 ...

Intricate motifs include depictions of fairly normal animals found around the Meddeterainian area.
Master metal craftsman Mohammed ibn al Zain created this brass basin during the Bahri Mamluk
reign (1250 1382). The basin s wide central, outer band depicts a finely crafted procession of Mamluk
emirs, or officials, among them a mace bearer (jumaqdâr), ax bearer (tabardân), and bow bearer
(bunduqdâr). Four horsemen in roundels punctuating the procession of dignitaries may be
personifications of different aspects of furusiyya, or horsemanship. Friezes of animals and coats of
arms frame this exterior band and decorate the basin s interior as well. Finding the true status of any
one mameluke is pretty easy, because the word Mameluke means slave or worker. This type of
citizenship is displayed when one looks at the types of people on the basin. The king is seated with
cup in hand as the whole civilization defends his honor.
Created by Maqsud of Kashan in 1539 through 1540 C.E. out of silk and wool, Ardabil Carpet is
indicidive of savafid culture. It is one of the world s oldest Islamic carpets, as well as one of the
largest, most beautiful and historically important. It is not only stunning in its own right, but it is

Psalm 146
Psalm 146, according to many Old Testament scholars, is thought to have been written sometime
between Judah s return from exile in 538 B.C.... [and] the time of Ezra and Nehemiah in the middle of
the fifth century B.C. One reason that scholars think that Psalm 146 was composed at a later date is
because of its use of Aramaisms in verses four (i.e. estonotayw or their plans ) and five (i.e. sibro or
whose hope ), as well as its use of the late Hebrew word zoqep (i.e. lifts up ) in verse eight. The
biblical scholar John Kselman also points out that Psalm 146 is a collection of partial quotations and
[it has] echoes of other biblical poems... [, which clearly denotes an] anthological style, [and] this

Memory Vs Human Memory
1. The purpose of memory, whether it be in humans or machine, is to store information for a period of
time. Both human memory and the memory used in artificial devices are capable of doing so but they
differ in many ways; two differences being discussed will be on how memory is encoded, and how
memory is stored.
There are endless stimuli in the world meaning we humans are constantly feeling, hearing, smelling,
tasting, and touching; at any given point in time, our brain is working and processing this into our
sensory memory. Information encoded in our sensory memory will only last a very short amount of
time (A few seconds sometimes even shorter) before it is either forgotten or transferred to the next
memory store, short term (Also known as working memory). The main factor in whether information
is further retained to short term memory, is attention. The three main ways information can be encoded
is through visual, auditory, and semantic coding. Visual coding enables information to be stored as
pictures, auditory stored as sounds, and semantic stored as meaning.
Memory encoding in machines can be stored as pictures and sounds but meaning is exclusive to
humans. Computer memory does not depend on attention; whatever is captured/experienced by the
machine will be encoded in the artificial device. Unlike human memory, the information will not be
forgotten if there is not enough attention and will be stored; bringing us to our next difference.
The memory used in artificial devices uses complex systems such as primary/secondary memory,
RAM, caches, etc. However, machine memory can explained described as black or white ; they either
know something or they don t, and when they do learn something they generally don t forget (Unless
they re programmed to do so).
This is where memory storage differs in the human system. As previously mentioned information is
stored in the short term/working memory with attention heavily factoring it s retention. Now for
information to stay in the active working memory, it must rehearsed over and over. Once mental
activity stops it is either forgotten or goes further into the long term memory. The long term memory
store is similar to memory storage system in computers in the sense

Research Paper On Macaw
The Green Winged Macaw, scientific name Ara Chloroptera, is also commonly known as the Maroon
Macaw or Red and Green Macaw. They are second only in size to the Hyacinth Macaw. The Green
Wing is often confused with the Scarlet because of all the red coloring but can easily be told apart by
looking at their backs. The Green Wing has a green band of color while the Scarlet has a yellow band
of color across its back.
The Green Wing is one of the most colorful Macaws, bright red is the dominant color while the
feathers near the body are dark red and turn green in the middle of the wing and the tips are lined in a

Descriptive Essay About Lifeguards
Fifteen minutes. That s the time I spend in each lifeguard stand before rotating to the next. I ascend the
white, grooved ladder rungs of the stand. One, two, three, turn around, sit down. I slip off my shoes,
exposing the embarrassingly obvious tan lines on my feet. With the rescue tube strap tossed over my
head and arm, and the red foam tube resting across the armrests of the chair, I bring the plastic whistle
to my mouth. A shrill, rolling sound is released: a signal to the eager children, stationed at the edge of
the pool and giddy with anticipation, that the day has officially begun. The pool is open. The first
fifteen minutes.
The gruelling sun of two summers of work has faded away the thrilling newness of climbing up that
lifeguard stand. My first day on the job, I relished the climb, soaking in the responsibility and glory.
Fifteen minutes flew by that day. Growing up, the lifeguards at my neighborhood pool were viewed as
celebrities by the younger kids. My friends and I admired how incredibly cool and intimidating they
were. Their stands were, in our young eyes, thrones. But now that I m on the other side of it, I laugh at
the thought of lifeguards being cool or intimidating. I m far from either of those things. And the stand?
It s nothing special. I just do my job: I am paid to sit, perched on a wobbly plastic chair on stilts,
monitoring the happenings of the pool for hours on end.
Even with the umbrella fastened to the stand, the heat proves unbearable. The

Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean
Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: For human populations, particularly people in the
poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and food. As a result,
fisheries catches represent a huge export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic
levels that are higher than those fished. For a long period of time, several human populations across
the globe have continued to depend on fish as a significant source of food and nourishment, which has
contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease
in the global catch of fish. Nonetheless, the links between overfishing and food security have
remained largely unclear and uncertain. According to the findings of research, approximately 50
percent of commercial marine species have been overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan,
Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). The increase in fisheries catches across the globe has also been fueled
by the significant increase in the demand for food because of the constant increase of human
population. While the practice has remained a major threat to every fish species in the ocean, it has
largely contributed to the large migrations by marine mammals as they seek to get the left over fish.
Since the 1950s, there has been an increasing trend in the number of unsustainable fisheries, which is
an indication of the global geographic expansion of overfishing (Coll et. al., p.1).

the Group of 30 International Banking had a seminar located in the nation s capital. The consultation
of the report will discuss the present status of where this country s economy is and why the economy
has been affected. This information allows us to determine the effects to the corporation s state before

corporation. The interest rate at which banks and other depository institutions lend money to each
other, usually on an overnight basis. The law requires banks to keep a certain percentage of their
customer s money on reserve, where the banks earn no interest on it (Bankrate). Consequently, banks
try to stay as close to the reserve limit as possible without going under it, lending money back and
forth to maintain the proper level (Bankrate). Banks hold the requirement either at the local Fed
branch office or in their vaults. If a bank is short of cash at the end of the day, it borrows from a bank
with extra money (Amadeo). The fed funds rate is what banks charge each other for overnight loans to
meet these reserve balances (Amadeo). The borrowed is known as the federal funds. The policy states

money, the first challenge that almost every investor face is numerous options to choose from stocks,
bonds, mutual funds so on. Equity is one the key asset class which beats inflation in the long run. (The
Times of India, 5th Feb 2015). Equity mutual funds help investors generate better inflation adjusted
returns, without spending a lot of time and energy on it. While most people consider letting their
savings grow in a bank, they don t consider that inflation may be nibbling away its value. (The Hindu,
14th March 2016). Purpose of this study is to analyze the past performance of three global equity
mutual funds of State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) Northern Trust (NT) on the basis of equivalent

Different Types Of Assessments That Have Been Standardized...
There are many different types of assessments that are used during different situations and some
during different times during the year. Each assessment has its own uses and also its own rules , which
can be categorized as formal and informal. Formal assessments are assessments usually given through
tests and are referred to as standardized tests. Informal assessments are assessments is mostly given in
natural settings and include tools such as running records and anecdotal notes. This research paper will
focus on formative assessments that have been standardized and will answer the questions of what,
why and how. Assessments, based on my understanding, can be simplified into three different areas
and each area is essential to the overall success of children as they become adults. The areas are
considered to be the purposes of assessment . The three areas include screening assessment, diagnostic
assessment and also instructional assessment. When thinking of using assessments in Early Childhood
Education the important key questions to focus on is why, what and how. Why means knowing why an
assessment is needed. For what purpose is the assessment being used? What means deciding on what
type of assessment should be used, in what situation. First, will it be an informal assessment? Or a
formal assessment? And last is how the assessment will be used. This includes the setting, time and
the process of the assessment. Understanding the key questions of why, what and how is

Abstract
Data volumes have been growing exponentially in recent years, this increase in data across all the
business domains have played a significant part in the analysis and structuring of data. NoSQL
databases are becoming popular as more organizations consider it as a feasible option because of its


Flexible Data Models NoSQL allows horizontal data partitioning across different distributed systems
or processors. However, relational model has a fixed schema in
contrast to NoSQL. Applications based on NoSQL have data models explicitly designed and
augmented for them.

Partial Record Updates Data models that use NoSQL emphasize on column based processing that
enable data aggregation on more than one attributes and entities.

Optimized MapReduce Processing MapReduce, a native functionality for data movement and
mapping is a part of NoSQL.

Horizontal Scalability It allows on the fly addition of the processors with their own resources. Each
node is fed with a subset of data to process, thus increasing the efficiency of the application.
Horizontal scalability is more achievable in NoSQL data model as compared to RDBMS [1].

The Controversy Of The 1969 Stonewall Riots
The topic that the proposed book focuses on considers the contentious impact of the 1969 Stonewall
Riots upon the struggle for LGBT+ rights. This potential monograph, entitled Riots for Rights: the
Debatable Influence of Stonewall, pursues to furthermore enhance the argument concerning whether
the 1969 Stonewall Riots began the public LGBT+ movement for further rights, or if the converse
occurred, wherein this momentous protest instead the culminated the LGBT+ efforts of the previous
years, merely pushing it further into public discussion. In the modern era, LGBT+ rights still undergo
fierce argument and debate, and so the proposed book s topic certainly holds relevance in both a
historical and political context that continues into the present day. Furthermore, another key
importance for the publication of this monograph stands that while the voluminous documentation of
the progression in LGBT+ rights Post Stonewall exists, serious evaluation and comparison of the
rights already developing before the 1969 Riots became widely publicized. Riots for Rights: the
Debatable Influence of Stonewall would expand upon these facets and further the historical
understanding of the still evolving history of the modern day LGBT+ movement. While various
historical methodologies prove useful for the monograph s topic, in order to properly display the range
of approaches the subject required a select number of methods chosen. The social historical approach

Between The Gnostic Christology And Trinity Of The...
As shown below, the similarities between the Gnostic Christology and Trinity of the Valentinians and
the orthodox Trinitarians are striking. The Valentinians were teaching a Christology very similar to the
Christology of the Trinity Doctrine expressed in the Athanasian Creed about 350 before the
proclamation of the Athanasian Creed. Valentinus (c.100 c.160) was a teacher in Rome, who almost
became Pope. Before coming to Rome in about 140, he had studied in Egypt. About 160, he died in
Cyprus. He claimed to have received his ideas from Theodas, a disciple of Paul. Valentinianism
survived into the fifth century. Valentinus teachings merged Christianity with Greek and Oriental
speculation. He developed a metaphysical system that incorporated Christianity with paganism and
Greek philosophy, primarily Platonism. His theology fluctuated between Gnosticism, esotericism, and
orthodoxy Christianity of his time. Valentinus believed that Christ s flesh was spiritual. Although
Jesus ate and drank, he did not defecate. Because Jesus body received heavenly substance, it only
appeared to need food. (This idea of Jesus conflicts with the New Treatment: Jesus was like his
brethren in all things [Heb. 2:17]. Like the Valentinians, the Trinitarians also have a Jesus who is
incompatible with the New Testament Jesus.) Fundamental to the Valentinian Christology is Christ s
deity and preexistence. Furthermore, Christ is a special emanation of God and embodies all the powers
of God. They

Similarities Between Rome And Roman Art
From a style perspective, both the art of the Late Antique/Early Christian period in Rome and art from
the Byzantine were very distinct in details and styles. The Roman empire and the Byzantine empire
were both impacted by Christianity, which is their main religion. Roman art was mainly influenced by
the Greeks, Egyptian, and Etruscan art, which can be seen in the history of Roman art. Unlike, the
Byzantine favoriting glitter mosaic painting in the interior of a building, mosaic were very popular and
hold a religious value towards the empire. The mosaic depicting Christ as the Good Shepherd from the
Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna with the other mosaics from San Vitale in Ravenna are
excellent examples of the difference and similarities between Roman and Byzantine art. These images
can also explain the representation of the natural world, difference in the art styles, and use of mosaics
in church. The Christ as the Good Shepherd from the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna is an
example of Roman art from Late Antique. The location for the mosaic is very interesting itself;
Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna is in a shape of a cross and contain many mosaics intact. The
reason why this mosaic was painted because of the adaptation of Christianity at Rome caused an
increase of art displaying Christ. This Rome art explores human nature by showing Jesus Christ as a
carpenter s son becoming a holy divine figure. There is a vast blue background indicating the

Filing Systems May Not Be Electronic Or Manual
Filing systems may either be electronic or manual. An organisation will probably utilise a combination
of both systems, choosing the most suitable arrangement for the data that is to be stored. Regardless of
the type of system adopted, it should be effective and efficient, accessible, accurate, reliable and user
friendly. In a school setting, both electronic and manual filing systems are used on a daily basis. To
give an example; A manual filing system is used to store individual pupil s confidential information.
Each pupil has their own file; this is filed alphabetically and held in a filing cabinet in the school
office. The child s file contains confidential information such as date of birth, address, family history
and medical details. This filing cabinet is kept locked at all times to ensure that children s information
is protected and respected and only available for viewing by authorised staff. An electronic filing
system is used to record the school s financial transactions. This is a very thorough and rigorous
method for storing such important details. The system generates orders; payments and reports that
enable the head teacher and school business manager to monitor spend and control budgets. This
system is only accessible to the school business manager and access is protected by a password. Filing
systems may be used to store information that is readily available to anyone to browse, such as
telephone numbers of schools within the local education authority.

The Age of Enlightenment Essay
The Enlightenment was a period in the eighteenth century where change in philosophy and cultural
life took place in Europe. The movement started in France, and spread to Great Britain, Italy, Spain,
Portugal, and Germany at more or less around the same time, the ideas starting with the most
renowned thinkers and philosophers of the time and eventually being shared with the common people.
The Enlightenment was a way of thinking that focused on the betterment of humanity by using logic
and reason rather than irrationality and superstition. It was a way of thinking that showed skepticism
in the face of religion, challenged the inequality between the kings and their people, and tried to
establish a sound system of ethics. The ideas behind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stokstad posits that these ideas have roots in the previous scientific revolution of the century before it,
with philosophers such as Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes establishing what we now know as the
scientific method based on logical reasoning, educated guesses and controlled experiments to prove
them. The astronomer Galileo Galilei confirmed a previous theory by Nicolaus Copernicus that the
sun did not revolve around the Earth and that it was the other way around the planets revolved around
the sun. These theories and practices went against the Church s teachings, and Galileo in particular
was forced to take back what he said on his observations. Other scientists made discoveries on smaller
scales relating to the animal kingdom and plant life, and artists were used to convey the new found
information by painting or drawing those findings. (p. 756) With the different revolutions and events
that took place before the eighteenth century, it could be said that the Enlightenment was just a logical
progression and the next step. Like the scientific revolution before it, the new Enlightenment era s
ideas were spread both through art and through writing, in texts such as Denis Diderot s Encyclopedia
which was printed and sold to the French middle class. The Encyclopedia held the most current ideas
concerning the arts, sciences, and the merits of human freedom. The advances as a result of the

  • 2. The Codex Chimalpahin, Interpretation And Critisicm THE CODEX CHIMALPAHIN, INTERPRETATION AND CRITISICM Christina Kunz Honors World Society in Literature and Film October 1, 2017 Domingo Francisco de San Antón Muñón was born in the generations that followed the fall of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capitol, by the conquistadors in 1521 . His catholicized name hides his Nahua background: Chimalpahin Quauhtlehuanitzin . At a young age, Chimalpahin began his education at a Dominican convent in central Mexico. His education included an extensive knowledge of languages as well as history and geography . As an adult, this enabled him to act as a transcription and copyist, he translated Spanish and Latin documents into his native Nahuatl. He often did so with his own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In modern literary interpretation, the correspondence of the authors intention with the meaning of the work, is considered paramount to discerning the true literary meaning of a work . E.D. Hirsch a renowned literary critic argues that to correctly interpret a text, the interpret must consider the author and the text s inner and out horizon . To discover the inner horizon, the interpreter must look at the culture and background of the work and author so they can understand the logic, belief systems, and historical context that bound the work. The addition of the outer horizon allows the reader to consider the author s intention in writing the piece. Hirsh establishes that a literary interpretation can be considered the most probable, if the reader considers the plausibility of the interpretation based on the context established from the text s horizon, coherence . Schroeder extensively describes the horizon of the text as well as the horizon of the author and his intention and evaluates her own claim with data and support. First, she describes the inner horizon of the text with a description of Nahua culture and background. She states the codex adheres to annals genre , a traditional form of Nahua record keeping that is based in oral tradition that was passed down per generation through Elder Nahua scholars given the status of nobles detailing the complex history of the Mexica through a total ... • 3. Perceptions Of Literacy Policies And Procedures The quantative study examined teachers perceptions of literacy policies and procedures, and if professional developments were made available and beneficial to teachers. The methodology used was survey research. The authors kept an unbiased tone throughout the article, and used methods such as sampling, a focus group, measurement and scaling, and statistical analysis. Based on the information provided in the article, I concluded this is an objectivism epistemology. They stated that their measurement instrument was reliable, since the test retest (T1 T2) correlated the coefficient of stability was 0.92. This is an excellent correlation produced by the pilot group of 100 K 6 teachers who completed the survey. I must note according to the authors there was a 4 mo. span between T1 and T2, this short amount of time between the tests could explain the exceptional results. The study itself contained around 400 participants and they used the same survey for both the pilot group and study participants. There was no hypothesis, and I m not sure if I would call this a literature review, I would have gone more in depth with the multiple annotations used. At least providing some results from previous studies. They provided a sufficient amount of statements. Thus, the authors do provide adequate background knowledge of policies and information regarding the 21st century literacy initiative, and the support required to insure teachers have the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively ... Ely is an associate professor at Columbia University s School of International and Public Affairs in New York City. Their research and teaching focus on the influence of race, gender, and ethnicity on career dynamics and organizational effectiveness. ABSTRACT: MAKING DIFFERENCES MATTER: A NEW PARADIGM FOR MANAGING DIVERSITY DAVID A. THOMAS and ROBIN J. Most people assume that workplace diversity is about increasing racial, national, gender, or class representation in other words, recruiting and retaining more people from traditionally underrepresented identity groups. Taking this commonly held assumption as a starting point, we set out six years ago to investigate its link to organizational effectiveness. We soon found that thinking of diversity simply in terms of identity group representation inhibited effectiveness. Organizations usually take one of two paths in managing diversity. In the name of equality and fairness, they encourage (and expect) women and people of color to blend in. Or they set them apart in jobs that relate specifically to their backgrounds, assigning them, for example, to areas that require them to interface with clients or customers of the same identity group. African American M.B.A. s often find themselves marketing products to innercity communities; Hispanics frequently market to Hispanics or work for Latin American subsidiaries. In those kinds of cases, companies are operating on the assumption that the main virtue identity groups have to offer is a knowledge of their own people. This assumption is limited and limiting and detrimental to diversity efforts. What we suggest here is that diversity goes beyond increasing the number of different identity group affiliations on the payroll to recognizing that such an effort is merely the first step in managing a diverse workforce for the ... The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship A relationship provides refuge, love and trust between two partners but every relationship has flaws that can permanently taint the two individuals and their bond. A major conflict that occurs in many relationships is domestic abuse. It is the control that a partner in an intimate relationship, who is usually the male in a heterosexual relationship, tries to exert on the female with methods such as physical, verbal and sexual abuse (Domestic Violence and Abuse). However, there are many cases in which women should stay in an abusive relationship rather than evade it because of contributing factors that revolve around societal views. In the novels, A Thousand Splendid Suns written by Khaled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is evident that Bobby comes back to kill Fran because he is aggravated that his wife left him with his child and his hatred for her is apparent since he is on the brink of killing her which portrays his malicious behaviour. Bobby is enraged and tries to murder her, which he failed to do, but that attempt is exactly why leaving an abusive relationship is dangerous because the chances of survival for the victim is very slim. To support this, in 2011, eighty nine incidents were reported to the police about spousal homicides and at least seventy six of those victims were females and more than half of these women were killed after they had separated from their abusive partners. The pattern is that the most dangerous point in a battered woman s life is when she takes the decision to leave her abusive spouse (The Facts About Violence Against Women). Fran is almost murdered by her abusive husband when he confronts her after she escapes which demonstrates that women should not escape from the abusive relationship because their lives are threatened by their abusers especially after they leave. In both of the novels, the deadly experiences that the battered women face are when they are in the process of leaving or after they leave. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, instead of the women being murdered, Rasheed is murdered instead but Mariam ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Animals are used for research to develop or prolong new medical treatments, check the safety of products for human use, and other biomedical, commercial, and health care uses. Research on animals has been practiced since at least 500 BC. Some researchers say that it is inhumane to experiment on animals, there are many alternative methods to researchers that can replace animal testing, and many animal species are so different from human life that research on animals often yields irrelevant results. Dynamic equilibrium is defined as the constant movement of species in a chemical reaction, gone to incompletion while the rates of production and consumption are equal (Kf = Kr ) (Burdge). It differs from static equilibrium in that species are constantly being consumed and produced, it is dynamic movement (Fox). The concentration of such species do not change, it remains constant (Fox). The rate at which species are being consumed and produced is known as the equilibrium constant (K) (Burdge). One reason is because the world has been faced with an explosion of computer technology. As more and more work, education and recreation involves computers, everyone needs to be aware of the hazards of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), also referred to as Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD), to the hands and arms resulting from the use of computer keyboards and mice. This can be a serious and very painful condition that is far easier to prevent than to cure once contracted, and can occur even in young physically fit individuals. Most CTD s are preventable and curable if caught early. The key is to notice trouble when it starts and do something about it. Early signs may include persistent pain, tingling, numbness, burning, or aching. The signs may be constant or may occur mostly after certain activities. The drastic cures such as surgery are not reliable and should be a last resort. Nevertheless, a health professional should be consulted when you are concerned about possible early signs. The Dosage Of Ionizing Radiation Increases The Risk Of Cancer The Dosage of Ionizing Radiation Increases the Risk of Cancer On November 8, 1895, a German physics professor named Wilhelm Roentgen discovered x rays. This advance in technology helped man explore the unknown of the human body without performing surgery. Only the microscope could compete with x rays in the contribution to medical vision (Gunderman 2). After the discovery of x rays, researchers found that there were therapeutic and also cancerous results from radiation emissions. Before this discovery became public, the Radium Watch Company began coating their watch dials with radium in order for them to glow, to allow owners of these watches see the time, even at night. However, the women workers, as watch dial painters, at the company would wet there brushes with their mouths to create a finer point. After months of this practice, many of the women received cancerous tumors and necrosis of the jaw. As a result, most were buried in lead lined coffins because of the high emissions of radiation from their bodies. Lead is now used to shield radiation from patients that are not receiving a full body scan. An x ray is made from a beam of high energy photons passing through the body which are either diminished or blocked entirely when they hit subatomic particles, like bone or metal. The denser and thicker the substance the brighter the image on the radiograph. Both radiological scans, x rays and CT scans both use ionizing radiation to capture the images of the human body. ... The power of hydrogen just means that you are measuring the concentration of the hydrogen ion in a solution. A sample of 100% pure water has a pH level of 7.0 meaning that it is neutral. It is considered neutral because of the way the pH scale is set up. The way to measure the pH level of a solution is by using the pH scale. The pH scale consists of numbers from 0 14. What does these numbers mean? Any solution that has a number between 0 and 7 is considered to be acidic, and any solution with a number between 7 and 14 is considered to be basic. As I mentioned earlier, any solution with a pH level less that 7 is acidic, well along with that, for each number that you go down on the scale, the solution is 10 times more acidic that the one before it. For example, a solution with a pH of 3 is 10 times more acidic than a solution with a pH level of 4, and it is 100 times more acidic that a solution with a pH level of 5. The same rule applies with the basic solutions; each number that you go up, the basicity of the solution is 10 times higher than the one below it. The following image shows the pH level of some of most common daily foods. When it comes to pH, there are two very important things in the world where pH plays a major role. Five different vernier capillaries and double pan balances were used to measure the metal. The plan of action was to find the average density to reduce random error, in addition to, calculating the standard error to observe the reliability of proposed average. Ideally, the metal would identify more comparably with gold or aluminum. The concepts of mass density, standard error, average, one dimensional statistics, precision / accuracy, and test of accuracy were explored. A hollow cylinder of metal was given to each lab group. Initially, the mass of the metal was determined with a double pan balance. The metal was placed on the balance and the instrument s notch and slider was used to interpret the mass. The next step was determining the inner radius, outer radius and height of the cylinder to find the volume. A vernier caliper was used to measure those components. The vernier caliper included an inner and outer jaw that measures length. The results of the double pan balance and vernier caliper was recorded in a data sheet, and the procedure was repeated five times with different instruments. The data was placed in an excel file where the mass density, average, standard error, test of accuracy, and general comparison with the two proposed metals (gold and aluminum) could be analyzed. We forget that a community is actually just a group of people with common interests or characteristics who often happen to live near each other. Communities can be bound by race, religion, economic standings, political standings, and most commonly, location. Frequently, communities fall into more than one of these categories. This community seemed to resemble a community from our present day upper class with only the best hotels, restaurants, and symphonic recordings. Although these two groups are very different, they each still follow the criterion of a community. Each are groups of people who have formed a sort of bond with each other because of a certain lifestyle, interests, or beliefs. When people use this word in present everyday conversation, their application of the definition is usually compatible with the first and third definitions of The American College Dictionary. The second definition, the public, is too general. A community is not only a public, but a public with a common interest. In my area, when the word community is used, the person is usually referring to the West Bloomfield community. • 23. Memory Vs Human Memory 1. The purpose of memory, whether it be in humans or machine, is to store information for a period of time. Both human memory and the memory used in artificial devices are capable of doing so but they differ in many ways; two differences being discussed will be on how memory is encoded, and how memory is stored. There are endless stimuli in the world meaning we humans are constantly feeling, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching; at any given point in time, our brain is working and processing this into our sensory memory. Information encoded in our sensory memory will only last a very short amount of time (A few seconds sometimes even shorter) before it is either forgotten or transferred to the next memory store, short term (Also known as working memory). The main factor in whether information is further retained to short term memory, is attention. The three main ways information can be encoded is through visual, auditory, and semantic coding. Visual coding enables information to be stored as pictures, auditory stored as sounds, and semantic stored as meaning. Memory encoding in machines can be stored as pictures and sounds but meaning is exclusive to humans. Computer memory does not depend on attention; whatever is captured/experienced by the machine will be encoded in the artificial device. Unlike human memory, the information will not be forgotten if there is not enough attention and will be stored; bringing us to our next difference. The memory used in artificial devices uses complex systems such as primary/secondary memory, RAM, caches, etc. However, machine memory can explained described as black or white ; they either know something or they don t, and when they do learn something they generally don t forget (Unless they re programmed to do so). This is where memory storage differs in the human system. As previously mentioned information is stored in the short term/working memory with attention heavily factoring it s retention. Now for information to stay in the active working memory, it must rehearsed over and over. Once mental activity stops it is either forgotten or goes further into the long term memory. The long term memory store is similar to memory storage system in computers in the sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: For human populations, particularly people in the poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and food. As a result, fisheries catches represent a huge export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic levels that are higher than those fished. For a long period of time, several human populations across the globe have continued to depend on fish as a significant source of food and nourishment, which has contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease in the global catch of fish. Nonetheless, the links between overfishing and food security have remained largely unclear and uncertain. According to the findings of research, approximately 50 percent of commercial marine species have been overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan, Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). The increase in fisheries catches across the globe has also been fueled by the significant increase in the demand for food because of the constant increase of human population. While the practice has remained a major threat to every fish species in the ocean, it has largely contributed to the large migrations by marine mammals as they seek to get the left over fish. Since the 1950s, there has been an increasing trend in the number of unsustainable fisheries, which is an indication of the global geographic expansion of overfishing (Coll et. al., p.1). ... In October the Group of 30 International Banking had a seminar located in the nation s capital. The consultation of the report will discuss the present status of where this country s economy is and why the economy has been affected. This information allows us to determine the effects to the corporation s state before and after. In the policy a specific point about the Federal Funds Rate was made that really affected the corporation. The interest rate at which banks and other depository institutions lend money to each other, usually on an overnight basis. The law requires banks to keep a certain percentage of their customer s money on reserve, where the banks earn no interest on it (Bankrate). Consequently, banks try to stay as close to the reserve limit as possible without going under it, lending money back and forth to maintain the proper level (Bankrate). Banks hold the requirement either at the local Fed branch office or in their vaults. If a bank is short of cash at the end of the day, it borrows from a bank with extra money (Amadeo). The fed funds rate is what banks charge each other for overnight loans to meet these reserve balances (Amadeo). The borrowed is known as the federal funds. • 31. Different Types Of Assessments That Have Been Standardized... There are many different types of assessments that are used during different situations and some during different times during the year. Each assessment has its own uses and also its own rules , which can be categorized as formal and informal. Formal assessments are assessments usually given through tests and are referred to as standardized tests. Informal assessments are assessments is mostly given in natural settings and include tools such as running records and anecdotal notes. This research paper will focus on formative assessments that have been standardized and will answer the questions of what, why and how. Assessments, based on my understanding, can be simplified into three different areas and each area is essential to the overall success of children as they become adults. The areas are considered to be the purposes of assessment . The three areas include screening assessment, diagnostic assessment and also instructional assessment. When thinking of using assessments in Early Childhood Education the important key questions to focus on is why, what and how. Why means knowing why an assessment is needed. For what purpose is the assessment being used? What means deciding on what type of assessment should be used, in what situation. First, will it be an informal assessment? Or a formal assessment? And last is how the assessment will be used. This includes the setting, time and the process of the assessment. Understanding the key questions of why, what and how is ... Three questions I will be addressing are first, What are some parallels we find between Leon Trotsky and Snowball, How does Trotsky s success resemble Snowballs success, and How is Trotskys fate the same as Snowballs. However, relational model has a fixed schema in contrast to NoSQL. Applications based on NoSQL have data models explicitly designed and augmented for them.  Partial Record Updates Data models that use NoSQL emphasize on column based processing that enable data aggregation on more than one attributes and entities.  Optimized MapReduce Processing MapReduce, a native functionality for data movement and mapping is a part of NoSQL.

  • 35. The Controversy Of The 1969 Stonewall Riots The topic that the proposed book focuses on considers the contentious impact of the 1969 Stonewall Riots upon the struggle for LGBT+ rights. This potential monograph, entitled Riots for Rights: the Debatable Influence of Stonewall, pursues to furthermore enhance the argument concerning whether the 1969 Stonewall Riots began the public LGBT+ movement for further rights, or if the converse occurred, wherein this momentous protest instead the culminated the LGBT+ efforts of the previous years, merely pushing it further into public discussion. In the modern era, LGBT+ rights still undergo fierce argument and debate, and so the proposed book s topic certainly holds relevance in both a historical and political context that continues into the present day. Furthermore, another key importance for the publication of this monograph stands that while the voluminous documentation of the progression in LGBT+ rights Post Stonewall exists, serious evaluation and comparison of the rights already developing before the 1969 Riots became widely publicized. Riots for Rights: the Debatable Influence of Stonewall would expand upon these facets and further the historical understanding of the still evolving history of the modern day LGBT+ movement. While various historical methodologies prove useful for the monograph s topic, in order to properly display the range of approaches the subject required a select number of methods chosen. • 36. Between The Gnostic Christology And Trinity Of The... As shown below, the similarities between the Gnostic Christology and Trinity of the Valentinians and the orthodox Trinitarians are striking. The Valentinians were teaching a Christology very similar to the Christology of the Trinity Doctrine expressed in the Athanasian Creed about 350 before the proclamation of the Athanasian Creed. Valentinus (c.100 c.160) was a teacher in Rome, who almost became Pope. Before coming to Rome in about 140, he had studied in Egypt. About 160, he died in Cyprus. He claimed to have received his ideas from Theodas, a disciple of Paul. Valentinianism survived into the fifth century. Valentinus teachings merged Christianity with Greek and Oriental speculation. He developed a metaphysical system that incorporated Christianity with paganism and Greek philosophy, primarily Platonism. His theology fluctuated between Gnosticism, esotericism, and orthodoxy Christianity of his time. Valentinus believed that Christ s flesh was spiritual. Although Jesus ate and drank, he did not defecate. Because Jesus body received heavenly substance, it only appeared to need food. (This idea of Jesus conflicts with the New Treatment: Jesus was like his brethren in all things [Heb. 2:17]. Like the Valentinians, the Trinitarians also have a Jesus who is incompatible with the New Testament Jesus.) Fundamental to the Valentinian Christology is Christ s deity and preexistence. Furthermore, Christ is a special emanation of God and embodies all the powers of God. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Similarities Between Rome And Roman Art From a style perspective, both the art of the Late Antique/Early Christian period in Rome and art from the Byzantine were very distinct in details and styles. The Roman empire and the Byzantine empire were both impacted by Christianity, which is their main religion. Roman art was mainly influenced by the Greeks, Egyptian, and Etruscan art, which can be seen in the history of Roman art. Unlike, the Byzantine favoriting glitter mosaic painting in the interior of a building, mosaic were very popular and hold a religious value towards the empire. The mosaic depicting Christ as the Good Shepherd from the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna with the other mosaics from San Vitale in Ravenna are excellent examples of the difference and similarities between Roman and Byzantine art. These images can also explain the representation of the natural world, difference in the art styles, and use of mosaics in church. The Christ as the Good Shepherd from the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna is an example of Roman art from Late Antique. The location for the mosaic is very interesting itself; Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna is in a shape of a cross and contain many mosaics intact. • 38. Filing Systems May Not Be Electronic Or Manual Filing systems may either be electronic or manual. An organisation will probably utilise a combination of both systems, choosing the most suitable arrangement for the data that is to be stored. Regardless of the type of system adopted, it should be effective and efficient, accessible, accurate, reliable and user friendly. In a school setting, both electronic and manual filing systems are used on a daily basis. To give an example; A manual filing system is used to store individual pupil s confidential information. Each pupil has their own file; this is filed alphabetically and held in a filing cabinet in the school office. The child s file contains confidential information such as date of birth, address, family history and medical details. This filing cabinet is kept locked at all times to ensure that children s information is protected and respected and only available for viewing by authorised staff. An electronic filing system is used to record the school s financial transactions. This is a very thorough and rigorous method for storing such important details. The system generates orders; payments and reports that enable the head teacher and school business manager to monitor spend and control budgets. This system is only accessible to the school business manager and access is protected by a password. Filing systems may be used to store information that is readily available to anyone to browse, such as telephone numbers of schools within the local education authority. ... • 39. The Age of Enlightenment Essay The Enlightenment was a period in the eighteenth century where change in philosophy and cultural life took place in Europe. The movement started in France, and spread to Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Germany at more or less around the same time, the ideas starting with the most renowned thinkers and philosophers of the time and eventually being shared with the common people. The Enlightenment was a way of thinking that focused on the betterment of humanity by using logic and reason rather than irrationality and superstition. Stokstad posits that these ideas have roots in the previous scientific revolution of the century before it, with philosophers such as Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes establishing what we now know as the scientific method based on logical reasoning, educated guesses and controlled experiments to prove them. The astronomer Galileo Galilei confirmed a previous theory by Nicolaus Copernicus that the sun did not revolve around the Earth and that it was the other way around the planets revolved around the sun. These theories and practices went against the Church s teachings, and Galileo in particular was forced to take back what he said on his observations. Other scientists made discoveries on smaller scales relating to the animal kingdom and plant life, and artists were used to convey the new found information by painting or drawing those findings. (p. 756) With the different revolutions and events that took place before the eighteenth century, it could be said that the Enlightenment was just a logical progression and the next step. Like the scientific revolution before it, the new Enlightenment era s ideas were spread both through art and through writing, in texts such as Denis Diderot s Encyclopedia which was printed and sold to the French middle class. The Encyclopedia held the most current ideas concerning the arts, sciences, and the merits of human freedom. The advances as a result of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
