Steve Jobs Influence
Steve Jobs: A Inspiring and Influential Businessman
The iPod, iPad, iMac, and iPhone all share one thing in common other than their elegant design.
Their creator, Steve Jobs, oversaw the creation of many of these extremely personal and
innovative electronics. He thought of technology and devices we did not know we needed or
wanted because we never knew they existed. Although he was often called crazy, but his different
ideas and rebelling personality drove him beyond what many expected of him as he built Apple and
other companies. Steve Jobs is most admired for his co founding of Apple and NeXT, as well as his
involvement in Pixar.
Jobs is best known for his career at Apple, a company recognized for its beautifully designed
electronics. The company started early: Jobs was just 21, [when] he and Wozniak started Apple

While Apple was focusing on creating electronics anyone could use, he wanted to create a
computer company specifically designed for scientists and people in higher education (Lakin

one hundred thousand dollars just to have NeXT s logo created. (Lakin 118). NeXT was not the
only company he would become involved in, and Jobs bought Pixar Animation Studios from
George Lucas ( Steve Jobs ). He was fascinated with the relationship between their software and
hardware, and most of all Pixar s software amazed him . Most importantly, he took Pixar in a
different direction, allowing it to become a much more influential, himself a much more influential
person as well. Jobs and Pixar would go on to send shockwaves through the entire [animation]
industry surprising many with what their technology could do, leaving a lasting impression on
filmmakers and what they could achieve (Lakin

Similarities Between The Aleph And The Zahir
Some similarities between The Aleph and The Zahir is the fact that in both stories, the narrators
clearly have the same name, Borges. In both stories the main characters, in a way, deny what they
have seen. In The Aleph, Borges states that he has not seen the Aleph just so that he could get
revenge on Carlos. In The Zahir, Borges sees a psychiatrist and instead of directly talking about
the problems he is having because of the Zahir, he states that it is insomnia. Even though the Aleph
and the Zahir are different in how they are perceived, they both are described as small circular
objects. Differences between The Aleph and The Zahir are the effects they have on the characters.

I was not really into reading at the time, but I remember that my teacher made us read for at least
fifteen minutes at the beginning of every class. If we did not have a book there were many
books from her library to choose from. I believe this was one of the first books that I read in her
class, and think I chose this book in particular because it stood out. I mean the title itself already
piqued my interest. I honestly did not think that I was going to enjoy it as much as I did, It was
such a bizarre read with all the strange events and abnormal characters. And in a weird way, the
strangeness of the story was what I really liked. I do not think I would have liked it as much if it
was not for that. It was one of the first chapter books that I did not have to force myself to finish.
This was also one of the first books I read that really got me into loving to read. I just loved getting
lost in another world and I wanted to keep reading books that did that for me. When I read A Very
Old Man With Enormous Wings, by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez I was reminded of the time I
discovered that I needed glasses. In the story, towards the end, there is a part where the old man
becomes extremely weak that they thought he could die. It also mentions that his eyes became
foggy and he starts bumping into things because he obviously can not see. This part of the story
brings up the memory of me realizing that I

My Mother s Sheet-Personal Narrative
I can see the sun through my sheets, I feel the sheets rising above me. I heard my mother s voice
say: Honey, It s time to go to high school! I grabbed the sheets and, pulled them above my head.
Five minutes later I got up. I went into my closet, grabbed the outfit I had picked out the day
before, and put it on. I walked downstairs, grabbed a bowl of dry cereal, and added milk. I grabbed
a spoon from the drawer. I ate my breakfast and walked towards the backpack hooks. I grabbed all
my books and went to my room. I packed my lunch and put it in my bag. I saw my sister and went
to talk to her. Hey! I said. Hey, Kate! My sister Kaya said. I went into my sister s room and, sat on

Causes Of The Industrial Revolution
By 1750, there was not much doubt that if any country was going to triumph in being the first
industrial power it would be England (Hobsbawm 29). However, several factors were responsible
for England s emergence as an industrial power. Some of the contributing factors for the Industrial
Revolution were: the increasing importance of imperial goods such as cotton, cultural traditions
that stemmed from the Renaissance and the Reformation, population change, and a government
willing to subordinate all foreign policy to its economic ends. Socially, the Industrial Revolutionin
England changed exponentially with the growing drift between the class hierarchy. Instead of
reverting to social revolution as occurred in France, England experienced political reform during the
Industrial Revolution that would become a symbol of hope for thriving countries. There has been
much speculation on the exact reason the Industrial Revolution began in England in the late 18th
Century, but certain components are undisputed for the Revolution s occurrence there. Initially,
Britain already had a large, developed supply of coal and iron which gave the British a start in
mass metallurgy (Perry 286). There also was a surplus of capital available for investments to be
made in new industries; however, these funds came from wealthy landowners and merchants who
had grown rich in commerce through the slave trade (Perry 287). With the start of their own
capitalist industrialization, England

Beautiful Mind Diagnosis
Synopsis
I watched A Beautiful Mind for this project. The movie is based on the real life experiences of
John Nash. The film begins with Nash arriving at Princeton University for his first year. We are
introduced to many of the main characters in the first few minutes of the film. We meet his
enemy, who Nash believes he is smarter that, and his roommate who drinks too much but is
always there as a helping hand for John. As Nash begins his collegiate career we begin to see
some early symptoms of his disorder. Nash is a gifted math student obsessed with finding a new
way to predict patterns. He studies pigeons, his classmates as they play football outside his dorm
window, and even the way his classmates talk to women at the bar. We see Nash... Show more

The friend looked like he was fearful of John and what he might do. Many times people viewed
Nash as dangerous and insane. Most of the characters carried a negative attitude toward mental
illness in general, except for John s wife Alicia. She is supportive and wants John to get better so
he can get back to being the man she married . Alicia s attitude toward his mental illness was
understanding and supportive, while also pushing him to get better. The mental health
professional in this movie is Dr. Rosen, who is only seen a few times in the whole movie. He is
portrayed as a reasonable, logical man who is only there to help. Hyler s stereotypes of mental
illness can be applied to this movie also. Instead of Nash and his disorder portraying him as a
homicidal manic or the like, Nash was portrayed as another stereotype of Hyler s that is rarely
depicted in modern films, the enlightened member of society. Nash is the enlightened member of
society who envisions great things and appears to be a well balanced individual, even with his
delusions at the beginning of the movie. This stereotype contradicts our usual view of individuals
with mental

The Pros And Cons Of Heterosexuality
We are socialized to assumed heterosexuality is normal because it is all around us. Most of us are
born into a heterosexual, mom and dad relationship. As we grow up looking up to them it becomes
normal to see heterosexuality. Throughout my upbringing, my parents did not talk about
homosexuality much. All of my family members throughout at least the first two generations
identify as straight, so it was not something I grew up being around. Therefore it was never
talked about in a positive or negative way. In biology class and church we are taught that we are
on this earth to reproduce and contribute to the renewal of civilization. To do this the normal way
you would get married and heterosexually reproduce. It is taught that the only natural way to have
sex is inserting a penis into a vagina. Institutions reinforce this by continuing to teach children
throughout their education that man and woman are the normal thing. This belief came from the
fact that a female egg cannot turn into a fetus unless it is fertilized by a male sperm. The cycle of
heterosexual socialization promotes heterosexism because it is promoted as the right thing to do
throughout all forms of media and teachings. When all you see as a positive thing growing up is
heterosexual, married couples with biological kids you are conformed to think that is the only way
to find happiness. Heteronormative socialization excludes many different types of people such as
couples who cannot conceive their own

The Benefits
Players will find that there are plenty of benefits when it comes to using bitcoin at an online
casino. You won t have to go far to hear of why it makes sense to start using bitcoin when gambling
online. First off, using bitcoin reduces and in some cases eliminates the charges usually associated
with moving money around and between online casinos. It also means that you won t need to
submit bank or credit/debit card information to your online casino operator, increasing anonymity.
The Choices
Bitcoin has actually benefited the online casino industry from multiple standpoints, what often goes
unnoticed is the increase in casino variety it is providing. The costs of staring a small business
through bitcoin results in lower costs due to the lack of financial institution involvement. When you
partner that up with the fact that an online casino only requires a small website, bankroll, and office
to launch, you can begin to understand how bitcoin is helping further variety in the world of online
casino gambling.
The Future
What bitcoin is bringing to the world of online casino is a new dimension and with it a brand new
way of thinking. The alternative currency is working to diversify the industry by introducing new
casinos and brand new concepts. Bitcoin within the world of online gambling is still in its infant
stages, but there is no denying that what we have seen so far is a positive

Children With Special Educational Needs
ADHD
Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) for instance Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD) can suffer with symptoms such as; being isolated from others, disruptive in
everyday environments such as a classroom, hyperactive as well as often having a short attention
span and easily distracted. (NHS, 2014) states, ADHD can occur in people of any intellectual
ability, although it is more common in people with learning difficulties. People with ADHD may
also have additional problems, such as sleep and anxiety disorders. Having the symptoms of
ADHD at a young age, may perhaps present particular challenges in school, causing teachers to
struggle with the problems children bring to the classroom without any additional help. The Special
Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice emphasises the need to identify children s difficulties
quickly to ensure action is taken to meet their needs.
The most common treatment for ADHD is a medication called methylphenidate
(MPH) this can be taken by both adults and children. Methylphenidate is known to enhance the
activity of dopamine and noradrenaline in the nervous system (MURRAY, D. ARNOLD, L.
SWANSON, J. WELLS, K. BURMS, K. JENSEN, P. 2008). MPH does, however, produce side
effects in many patients (ranging from headaches and decreased appetite to blurred vision, slowing
of growth, and psychotic symptoms such as auditory hallucination (ADLER, L. SPENCER, T.

An Essay About Edm
A New Type Of Music EDM EDM is a real music. Since 1980, electronic music first appeared in
nightclub, and soon became popular. It also being highly accepted in nowadays society.
Furthermore, EDM had been widely used in many singer songs, for instance, Not today , a song
from a Korea s boy band, also a famous song let me love you , which made by both DJ Snake and
Jutin Bieber. EDM is not just a club music. However, cause the electronic music doesn t involve
any instrument, some critics oppose the idea that EDM is a genre of music. The argument about
EDM has been sustained for a long time, it s time for those rigid people accept the new

As a popular music in nowadays, EDM doesn t involve any instrument in it. In people s common
sense, musics are all create with instruments, can EDM also count as a music, which break up
the tradition. The definition for music shouldn t be that confined. In the ancient time, there s no
instrument , people knocked desks, bowls, bows as the beats for their songs. With time elapsing,
instrument been created, and defined as instrument. Let s say instrument is a thing which give
people beats and complete the song. As well as electronic device also can give people beats and
complete songs, electronic dance music can also be a music. I had read a article about whether
EDM can be a genre music. In this article, author mentioned a important idea that who or which
group of people can decided the genre of music. In my opinion, no one can decided it. Music is a
thing about emotion, everyone have different emotion. We can t say somebody s emotion is
wrong. The things is, when we heard a song, a group of people may have the same felling about
it, they may like it and become fans, they may not like it, then just skip it and find another song
they like. We have no right to deny someone s

New Yorker Rhetorical Analysis
The Business of Selling and Perpetuating Anxiety The New Yorker is a celebrated magazine that
is known for its reporting, essays, and political commentary. Its exemplary status is also attributed
to its cartoons and illustrative covers, which are often satirical reinterpretations of current affairs.
The demographic of the people who read the New Yorker provides a clue as to the whom the
advertisement s target audience is. They tend to be on the liberal spectrum, mostly college
educated people in their early 30s to late 50s. The December 7th issue of the New Yorker features

often used to heighten drama or tension around the subject. In addition, the visual elements largely
contribute to the effectiveness of the advertisement because it draws attention to the Marianne

translates to Not afraid, is spray painted on a white banner that hangs from the graffiti covered

bottom right hand corner, the slogan We go to the story, so you get the story, is clearly visible and
similarly, on the top right hand corner the Nightly News host s name, Lester Holt, is visible in
white print; however, underneath the text, written in red print is the word Paris, which informs the

Embodiment In The Veldt
Bradbury utilizes the veldt as an embodiment in the short story, The Veldt, to warn the audience
that excessive admiration and dependence on technology will ultimately lead to physical and
psychological damages on the development of humans. The future that Bradbury constructs around
the Hadley family fully exaggerated the overall influence of technology on the characters daily
life, thus, ending it with a suspenseful scene further aggravated the seriousness of possible
damages done by the nursery room. The early signs of developmental damages are often the result
of excessive permissiveness. Although the nursery room had cost half again as much as the rest of
the house, (Bradbury 8) George and Lydia still bought it for their children. As widely acknowledged
by many critics, technology can be extravagant and redundant in most cases. Yet, the Hadleys
thought it was a necessity because the kids certainly enjoyed the company of privileged technology
that unconditionally spoils them. Therefore, it was no wonder that Peter and Wendy formed a
quick and intensive relationship with the nursery room as its main occupiers. In addition, George
Hadley, similar in view to his children, was [also] filled with admiration for the mechanical
genius who had conceived this room. He even considers it a miracle of efficiency selling for an
absurdly low price, and claims that every home should have one. (9) Both generations in the story
seemed to be wildly fascinated and intrigued by

The Impact Of Fair Value On Financial Reporting Essay
The most controversial topic of today s time in the world of accounting is fair value. However,
one common point of confusion is the scale of businesses affected by fair value, and when fair
value came onto the scene. According to Robert Herz and Linda MacDonald ...the use of fair
value in financial reporting is not new. In fact, it has been in place for decades, principally for
financial assets. But even then, fair valueis not required for all assets. (2008) The idea of using fair
value measurements goes back at least to the 1930 s when Kenneth MacNeal wrote Truth in
Accounting. It wasn t until 1993, however, until the FASB released SFAS 115. SFAS 115
addresses the accounting and reporting for investments in equity securities that have readily
determinable fair values and for all investments in debt securities. (FASB 1993) In 2006 the
FASB released SFAS 157, which established a framework for measuring fair value. SFAS 157
also requires significantly more disclosures about fair value estimates than ever before. (FASB
2006) Finally the FASB issues SFAS 159, which permits entities to choose to measure many
financial instruments and certain other items at fair value. (FASB 2007) These statements set the
stage for the discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of fair value. Also discussed, will be
the problems with implementation of a full fair value measurement system. That discussion will be
followed by a brief summary.

The Cold Side Of The Government And All Their Big Cover Ups
There are many mysteries in this world and one of the big ones is the government and all their
big cover ups. The government has many secrets that many people are absolutely clueless about
what the government is doing with all of our money while doing illegal things that a treaty even

government is straight up with everything and they don t lie to us at all. The number one reason

So, the government has been hiding and secretly doing many things and has yet to tell us and these
few are little compared to what they have done to us. They have been flying around the world with
a reusable unmanned spacecraft, used for many things other than flying, the nasty CIA and what
they have been working on since the start of the Cold War, and finally the USA s new and
definitely improved rail gun that can take down ships in a snap, and what it actually is.
First, the government is stabbing us in the back because they are going to end the world
someday by the looks of the killing spacecraft. Some people may think that it is just for testing
and they are not sure what they will actually do with the spacecraft. Lots of evidence points out
that the USA is making a deadly weapon that has the power to easily take out underground
bunkers and whole cities in fact. First, we start it off when the USA started making the plane and
nobody knew about it. It was just another one of the government experiments that can be deadly
in a heartbeat. Now, many people may call me crazy but, it is the scary truth. There is a satellite
in orbit as we speak and the purpose of it is truly scary. What the purpose of it and this is the scary
and devastating part is video games are truly telling the future. That might not sound scary yet, but

Examples Of Being Oppressed Women
Since the beginning of time, women were oppressed, mistreated, and not equal to men. They had
great reasons to fight for the rights that they deserve, like the right to vote. But in today s world,
the women who call themselves feminist believe that they are still at the same level of being
oppressed as their ancestors were. As a result, women focus what they think they don t have in
society and forget about the problems most men face every day. Feminism, although a very good
practice, is abused in today s world by giving too much attention to women and not enough to men
when talking about equality.
As of now, 2016, men and women have equal rights, are treated the same in a legal matter, and
both have similar ways of being oppressed. It would make sense that there would be a group run
by both men and women to push for true equality, not one run by only women saying that their goal
is equality, but in the end, only recognize oppressed women. The prejudice movement run by
women with false, biased, and uneducated values affected how the young people in this world think
about men. Teenage girls don t go beyond the false accusation they would find on the internet about
how women are the only oppressed gender and as a result, join the feminist movement and continue
to bash men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

s play Antigone is a tragedy inspired by Greek mythology and the play of the same

The play had many important characters without which the meaning would be incomplete.

Tupac Amaru Shakur s Change Essay
The cry of injustice has become louder and louder and those people who are knowledgeable
about their ancestral history, feel hopelessness in the midst of this unfortunate rebirth of the New
Jim Crow. Their hopelessness is further fed and satisfied by the powers that be who arrange for
African Americans to be unable to escape the extreme cycle of poverty forcing them to adapt the
best way they can to their current situation; whether that be murdering someone like yourself or
selling narcotics. Tupac Amaru Shakur, wrote the famous song Changes in 1992 but it was
released after he was murdered, in October 1998. Tupac exposes the reality of commonly ignored
societal ills such as racism, classism, and discrimination and establishes that unity is the only way
out. Through the use of juxtaposition, allusion and call to action, Tupac illustrates his thoughts on
racial desperation and its correlation to overarching racism during the period of social unrest in the
United States and the importance of establishing a united front to fight back. Although written

Ayn Rand s The Speed Of Trust
In an era that has seen numerous business scandals and a need for accountability, The Speed of
Trust is a nurturing guide to build and grow trust in both our professional and personal lives.
Recalling on anecdotes and several business experiences, the author constantly reinforces the fact
that there is plenty of room for improving trust. The book provides many practical examples of
how higher trust can lead to greater speed and lower cost and vice versa. The book talks about
low trust taxes and high trust dividends. One of the example the author gives is about security
issues at the airport after the 9/11 attack. He says before security had been tightened he would
arrive at the airport 20 minutes before departure and still made it on the plane.

The Association Between Parenting And Its Effect On Child...
Now that the association between parenting and its effect on child behavior is made relative, we
can take a look at negative parenting styles and its association with delinquency. Wilma Smeenk,
and Jan Gerris have done an analysis that associated parenting with delinquency. This analysis was
able to link parental monitoring, psychological control, and negative aspects of support like
rejection and hostility. The demographic was divided by parentand child gender, child age,
informant on parenting, and delinquency type.
Parenting dimensions have been proposed by two dimensions, support and control. These
dimensions are used to analyze the quality of parenting behaviors. The support dimension refers to
parenting towards children that makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Authoritarian control is more directed to adult oriented, restricted, and firm discipline techniques. It
emphasizes the negative aspect of control like harsh punishment and rejection. Authoritative control
has positive effects on child behavior unlike authoritarian control which has been found to have
negative effects on the children.
Males appear to participate in more delinquent behaviors than females do. One ideas shows that
males may be vulnerable to risk factors for delinquency because of sub par parenting. Another idea
is that delinquency is the same for males and females, but boys are more exposed to to
opportunities for delinquency than females. In addition to child gender, the gender of the parent
also plays a role. The link between fathers parenting and mothers parenting to a child s delinquency
can be different. The amount of time a father and mother spends with their child is not the same.
The study suggests that the differences between the link between delinquency and paternal and
maternal parenting, a fathers supportive behavior was more strongly related to delinquency than
mothers support. In order to analyze whether the same sex between parents and child influenced
delinquent behavior the study broke up subjects by fathers sons and mothers daughters, and fathers
daughters and mothers sons The link

Analysis of the Amended Family and Medical Leave Act Essay
On August 5, 1993 the amended Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), was intended
to help employees have a work life balance. This accomplishment placed the United Stated ahead
of major barriers for the fair labor laws. Before having the amended FMLA put into place,
employees were rarely granted job protection for caring for newborns, relatives and personal
medical illness. With the new amended act, it allowed employees to take a leaveof absence from
their job and allowed protection from being fired or having to take a reduced work scheduled by
force from the company. Initially, the bill had been introduced to Congress session for the past
nine years and had been vetoed twice by President George H.W. Bush, although, in the 1988... Show

Business Affects FMLA affects employers in many ways, such as monitoring leaves of absence,
coordinating benefits for employees, record keeping and return to work conditions. FMLA
affects employers in terms of ensuring compensation, and benefits specialists are well versed in
the application of FMLA regulations to individual employee circumstances. Employers are
affected also by FMLA but not replacing the employee or giving the employee an alternative
position with the strong intentions of discouraging them from taking the leave. If the employer
fails to comply, there are strict consequences and possible lawsuits. Another discouragement that
affected for the employers were that they had to continue providing group health insurance to the
employee while on leave. The FMLA can have a negative impact on both small and large
employers due to the law s regulatory and administrative complexity (Leonard, 2000). FMLA
created a sense of burden for employers and their management team, as they were responsible in
finding suitable replacements to fill in for employees who are out on FMLA leave. This would
have eventually slowed down the employer s productivity causing profit losses, which employer s
do not want to see happen.

Life Of Adoption Essay
The Life of Adoption In my English class I was asked to write about a circumstance, an obstacle,
or a situation that has happened in my life. Today I am going to be writing about when I got
adopted. First of all I will start by saying one of my favorite quotes; I was chosen, I was wanted, I
was cherished, I grew in their hearts, I was the missing piece, I was loved, I was adopted. Unknown

Anthony Liccione once said, Unto the Cross came death, and unto death came the Cross. This
quote relates to the poem, The Dream of The Rood because it talks about the story of how Jesus

air, wound round with light, the brightest of beams. This symbolizes that he has stumbled across
the Tree of Life mentioned in the Bible. Adam and Eve ate an apple off this tree even though
God had forbidden it. The tree the poem was glorious on one side with gems and beauty;

Analysis Of Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber
IT S NOT ABOUT THE SIZE, IT S HOW YOU USE IT
How short stories pack the perfect punch in promoting feminist ideals.
The limited trajectory of short narrative concentrates its meaning. Sign and sense can fuse to an
extent impossible to achieve among the multiplying ambiguities of an extended narrative. Angela
Carter Angela Carter is known in the literary community for her use of fairytales and overt sexual
imagery in promoting feminist platforms. At the time she wrote The Bloody Chamber , the Second
Wave of Feminism and, subsequently, the rise of radical libertarian feminism were crashing into the
forefront of the global politics. This wave of feminism primarily focused on the empowerment of
women through the exploration of female sexual identity, the promotion of androgynous females as
the ideal model for the modern woman, and the liberation of women from the patriarchal societal
traditions established to keep women in their submissive gender role (Formizano). Angela Carter
transforms the classic fairytale Bluebeard into a masterful portrait of female sexual liberation,
empowerment through gender role reversal, and financial independence in The Bloody Chamber .
A central dogma of feminism is the separation of female sexuality from the societal confines of
reproduction. In The Bloody Chamber , the female protagonist is a seventeen year old virgin who
goes on a journey of sexual self actualization in her marriage to the Marquis. Throughout the
narrative, we are

Persuasive Essay Against Animal Testing
Imagine an animal locked in a dark cage, alone without food or water, with a deadly disease
infecting its body, having to watch other animals being experimented on. These animals have zero
control of what is about to happen, and they will never know if today is their last day. This is the
situation that happens when animals are the subject of tests. Many of these animals are suffering
with diseases and possibly growing tumors the size of their bodies. Worldwide, 24 animals die
every minute in laboratories. Every year, 100 million animals die from such test.
These tests are unethical, unnecessary, and is bad science. Mice, fish, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs,
hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, and dogs are just a few of the animals that are being tested on.
Many of these animals become blind after tests that consist of eyeliner, hand soap, food
ingredients, and medicines. These animals are dying inhumanely, and it needs to stop. PETA
scientist stated, Life in a cage is no life at all (PETA). So why, as humans, do we find it acceptable
to put them through all this suffering?
The United States of America allows laboratories to test on animals. Many times testing includes
but is not limited to: starving, isolating, drowning, being burnt, shocked, brain damaged, and
addicted to drugs. Animal testing is very ineffective due to animals not getting the same diseases as
humans. Also, the testing leaves permanent damage to the animals. Blindness, burning skin, and
brain damage are

the topics that we discussed in our textbook. I think that it is relevant to us as Public Speaking
students because it is full of different ideas and dialect. I believe that this podcast was assigned
for us to listen to because it contains many of the things that are discussed by our textbook. For

Another example that stuck out to me that was something we discussed in class and was in our
textbook was listening. When Tom Emmer is talking at his town hall and Sue keeps saying that
he wasn t listening to her Tom Emmer says to Zoe Chace that he felt like the people at the town
hall said he was telling them and that he wasn t listening (Glass, 5). How I think this relates to
the book is in Chapter 3 the book talks about listening. The book discusses things like being an
active listener, as well as, critical and comprehensive listening. I think that both Sue and Tom
Emmer were not being very good active listeners and were not listening critically or
comprehensively. Sue wasn t listening to the idea the Tom had that they could not just keep
Somali Muslims out of St. Cloud so she wasn t listening to understand the message of the
speaker and she also was not listening to evaluate a message for purposes of accepting or
rejecting it (Lucas, 49) (Glass, 5). Tom was also not being a good active listener because he got
stuck on the first point that Sue was saying and did not listener to the rest of the things that she
had to say. Granted, Sue wasn t making a very reasonable point by trying to state that people

Walter Ruttman
A secondary important figure in defining and examining the absolute film movement within
Germany during the 1920s is Walter Ruttman. Unlike Richter he began as a student of
architecture and graphic design, which shaped his identity as an experimental filmmaker and
accounts for the prominence of shapes and lines within his films. He began his career as
filmmaker directly after his release from a hospital in Berlin for treatment of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder caused by his experiences in WW1. His works are said to be the very first examples of
completely abstract film, meaning that they are composed solely of the arrangement of various
forms (geometric and arbitrary) with no outside reference to anything or to any particular meaning.

In his first two Opus shorts he used the paint on glass technique employing oil paints in different
streaks, curves, blobs and lines of various colors. Unlike Richter s Rhythm 21, Opus I and II
incorporate different colored shapes as well as tints and tones over the lens of the camera which
have been said to evoke a certain mood within the rhythmic movements. What we see is
basically a dance of both these soft arbitrary forms moving around the frame as well as (towards
the end of I and moreso in II) other hard edged triangular shapes that are not quite as organic.
Moving through his four films within the series we can see both a refinement of his technique
in addition to new approaches that seem to have been influenced by Constructivist perspectives.
In Opus II he uses a technique known as kinestasis, which uses movement of the camera to make
still figures appear to have motion. By Opus IV all color has been removed, shapes have lost
their organic quality and are only geometric (as they are in Richter s works) and there is much
less evocation of feeling. Instead he shows only the essential capacity of the camera as a device
and uses only light, framing and time as his

Immanuel Kant, Rudolf Carnap And Mary Leng
Knowledge about such objects as numbers and shapes has been debated by scholars including
Immanuel Kant, Rudolf Carnap and Mary Leng. The ability to attain knowledge of something s
existence encompasses philosophical ideas from a priori and a posteriori truths to ideas about
universalism. Abstract ideas with concrete uses, such as shapes and numbers, are effective vehicles
for such a discussion. I believe that mathematical objects exist as a priori truths and because they
follow an axiomatic truththeory. The truth theory applied however, is unique to the metaphysical
object being discussed.
According to Kant (1788), all knowledge that states fact is either a priori (exists by definition) or a

A statement such as 3+4=7 is considered a mathematical truth, as if the mathematical objects 3, 4
and 7 exist and facts can be made about them. (Note that nominalists would not agree that numbers
exist in this sense however, as nominalist theories are often motivated by empiricist standpoints,
which find no place for the existence of non spatiotemporal objects.) A potential problem with
this is that one finds that mathematics has a hierarchy of abstraction, resulting in a plethora of
more conceptual mathematical objects that become difficult to engage with. A given fact such
as Fermat s Last Theorem: No three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation a^n +
b^n = c^n for any integer value of n greater than two which requires 150 pages to prove and
consumed 7 years of Andrew Wiles life to do so. The concepts that unfold from such a proof can
be known because they are derived from the axioms of mathematics in logic , which was first fully
established in logicism in 1884 by Gottlob Frege (see Thinking About Mathematics by Stewart
Shapiro (2000), p.107 115). In this sense, all mathematical facts are justified, therefore knowledge
of them is possible. Mathematical objects exist therefore because of how coherent and well defined
it is. It doesn t make sense to say we know about something that doesn t exist. So mathematics must
exist in

Volkswagen s Impact On The World s Best Known Car...
I. Volkswagen is one of the world s best known car manufacturers; unfortunately it has damaged its
credibility and reputation with the recent emission scandal that the company was involved in.
Volkswagen failed in establishing the triple bottom line, social responsibility, and sustainability.
The long and commonly held belief was that the only responsibility of business was to maximize
the wealth of its shareholders. Today, however, companies must be socially responsible and focus
on what is now called the Triple Bottom Line that is compromised of: environment, economy and

Anti Semitism In The Holocaust
Before the Holocaust and the killing of millions of Jews, many events took place solidifying the
hatred towards Jews in Germany. People in Germany did not hate Jews overnight, a long history of
universal hate towards Jews took place first. Throughout history the Jewish people have been
victims of anti semitism because they do not fully assimilate, causing them to be outsiders. This
historical backing of anti semitism with the combination of a poor economy, strong German
identity and humiliation, causes Germanyto have strong anti semitic sentiments during the 1920s
and 1930s. Anti semitism started in seventy c.e. when the Romans destroyed the temple in
jerusalem because the Jewsrefused to worship their gods (Bergen). The destruction of the temple
was one of the first times in history people took action against the Jews and tried to harm them.
The Jewish people were viewed as the others because of their religion and were punished for it.
The romans did not stop at destroying the temple, the Jewish people were blamed for the
crucifixion of Jesus Christ, even when crucifixion was a roman form of execution (Bergen). The
blame of killing Jesus caused many Christians to hate the Jews, and give the Christians and
legitimate reason to discriminate. Blaming Jews for events that were not in their control is a
pattern seen thru history. The Jews were also blamed for the black death in 1348, even when their

Analysis Of Bruno Bettelheim s Beauty And The Beast
Bruno Bettelheim, he analyzed fairy tales in terms of Freudian psychology, which is represented
in his works of The Uses of Enchantment. Beaumont s story of Beauty and the Beast is where
the first discovery of Beauty s problem was identified as the Oedipal complex. The Oedipal
complex is a child s desire to have a sexual relation with the parent of the opposite sex, but it is
repressed deep in the mind. Beauty in Beauty and the Beasthas a special bond of affection with her
father; there is the problem that arises within this complex that what if she were to be stuck at the
stage of development and never outgrow it. Within the fairy talewritten by Jeanne Marie Beaumont
there is the representation of the period where she begins to transfer the affection to someone else.
An analysis of Bettelheim s theory of the Oedipal complex reveals psychological problems of
growing up in the written fairy tale and Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Bettelheim s
theory is centralized on his argument of the importance of fairy tales on a child s development. This
argument was proposed through The Uses of Enchantment, he suggested that fairy tales provided
images to the children and with these images they could structure a better direction to one s life.
Bruno Bettelheimfelt that the use of fairy tales for child s development represented good versus
evil clearly, these stories helped children deal with problem of an inner self, the description of the

carefully, gently, drawing the toilet paper out... There was really no reason for him to do this;
he just wanted to do for its own sake. Also in this story Russell is described as eating out a whole
restaurant of their eggs, and just being all around gluttonous. In contrast, Sissy is much more
reserved and in control of her desires often having to give in to Russell s demands, like in The Cave
where Russell wants sex every five seconds.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

tax fraud. Secondly, this paper will also delve into some of the laws that have been passed as
punishment for those parties that decide to commit tax fraud. We will also highlight some of the
more current examples of tax fraud that have been committed and the details that lead to the
perpetrators being caught. Lastly we will discuss the role that criminal investigators have in the
realm of tax fraud. Tax fraud can be stated simply as: willfully supplying fraudulent information on
tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). As we know, no one is perfect and mistakes are

Current Fraud Schemes There have been many famous tax fraud cases over the years. The ability
of individuals to consistently find ingeniously creative ways of committing tax fraud, especially
with the magnitude of rules and regulations concerning tax, is astounding. Every year there are
thousands of instances of tax fraud schemes taking place, accounting for billions of dollars of lost
revenues for the IRS. In 2011 alone, the IRS reported roughly 2 million potentially fraudulent tax
returns out of over 145 million tax returns filed.(htt) In addition to highly sophisticated tax fraud
schemes, sometimes very simple schemes are able to exist without interference. Of the
approximately 2 million fraudulent tax returns filed in 2011, identity theft accounted for about
450,000. (htt) In Tampa, FL for instance, identity theft for the purpose of filing fraudulent tax
returns has become more and more prevalent. (htt1) Law enforcement bears witness to thousands
of people annually in possession of ledgers, tax filings, lists of SSN s and personal information,
and refund debit cards. However, law states that it is not illegal to simply possess this information,
only to use it. Lack of ascertainable proof has forced the police department to allow hundreds of
perpetrators go free, creating a very frustrating situation for everyone involved. Similarly, there has
been a recent surge in the identity theft of Puerto Rican citizens information. Since Puerto

Anne Frank And The Jewish People During World War II
In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can t build up
my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery and death (Frank 259). This was
written on July 15th, 1944, by Anne Frank, an fifteen year old girl, who was arrested by the
Nazis. Anne Frank, is a name known around the world for her compelling diary about growing
up, living hidden away from the world, and the situations going on in the outside world during
World War Two. This diary was used by Anne to record her life while in hiding with her family
and friends. Anne and her diary were, and still are to this day, a link as to what life was like for
the Jewish people during the time Hitler rose to power. Annelies Marie Frank was born June 12,
1929, in Frankfurt, Germany. She was the second child to Otto Frankand Edith Hollander Frank,
and the younger sister to Margot Betti Frank (Muler 13). During the First World War, Otto Frank
had served his country of Germany as a Lieutenant. Frank and Edith married on May 12, 1925.
One year later, in 1926, their daughter Margot was born. In 1927, the frank family, moved into
their first apartment in Marbachweg, Germany. After Hitler released his future endeavors for
Germany, the Franks believed it was time to move on from their life in Germany. Otto was the
first to move, he found solace in Amsterdam, Holland during the summer of 1933. Edith and the

appropriate. Instead of bright colours taking your attention away from the hidden message, her
choice of colours let the mind work on the serious side of the art. The colours of the sky are
harmonised by the colours of the canvas or vicar versa. The canvases are a pipet sample of each

Parables In The Gospel Of Matthew
Parables are simple and fictional stories, similes, or metaphors that are true to everyday life as
they depict a moral or spiritual lesson. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus used parables to illustrate
the kingdom of God, which is defined as God s future display of power and judgment in which he
rules over all creation. The parables assure that heaven is real and an afterlife exists. According to
Jesus, parables are important because although we are given knowledge of the mysteries of the
kingdom of heaven, they still require us to try to do some critical thinking and further reflect in
order to understand the precise meaning behind the story; therefore, it is important to use the gift
of understanding. First of all, Jesus used the parable of the Sower and the seeds to explain the
strength of faith in an individual. A sower had dropped seeds in four different types of
environments: a hard, empty footpath, a rocky ground with little soil, a bunch of thorns, and an
area of good soil. All of the seeds that unfortunately fell in bad environments had unsuccessful
outcomes. Birds ate up the seed in the hard, empty footpath. The sprouting of the seed that fell on

which can become like thorns in our lives as they suffocate the word of God. Encountering these
obstacles is inevitable, but we must overcome them and let God in. The key is to have
perseverance and permit our hearts to have the capacity to remain faithful. By having good
intentions and a clean heart, then we will bear good fruit ourselves and yield remarkable

The Impact Of Catcalling
Imagine walking down the street during summer in a summer dress and passing by a man you
do not know suddenly uttered Hey beautiful! What would you feel about it? What would you
do? Catcalling is a serious social issue encountered today especially by women. It is a harsh or
shrill call or whistle expressing derision or disapproval according to the dictionary. Today, it may
sound more like a compliment rather than disapproval. But, catcalls are not compliments at all
because they are usually done by strangers in an aggressively sexual manner. They are creepy and
can cause fear because they tend to grab an unsuspecting womans attention for fun and
entertainment. Although it may depend on one s delivery and intention due to the difference
between a polite greeting and a catcall (Aquino, 2014). Catcalls are usually ignored by women
today to prevent the cause of tension between them and catcallers. However, awarenessabout its
damaging effects is being raised because of the portrayal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Others could hardly believe that it was an issue, but actually it is. Posters and websites are being
made to help raise awareness and to empower women s rights. Earlier petitions that were made were
ignored due to the history that women were inferior to men. But today, the continuing empowerment
of women has created great opportunities for them to reopen the petition. Women s actions towards
this might be ignoring something about what they have heard, talking back, and maybe telling the
authorities about their encounters. Most women feel being disrespected by the opposite sex,
anxious and angry that triggers them sometimes to have low self esteem. The main point of this
street harassment is that not all women feels happy about this but rather they feel quite the
opposite. This might be a compliment to others but this is not the right way to catch women s

Nazi Symbolism In Sylvia Plath s Daddy
The whole point of the poem Daddy is Sylvia Plath showing her emotions of how drained she felt
from losing her father at a young age and how one death affected her whole life. The use of Nazi
symbolism can be confusing, but plays a huge part in understanding the full meaning of what
Plath was portraying. The use of intense imagery shows a story of Plath s deepest emotions. The
story Plath is describing is showing the reader her extreme depression and every big moment in her
life that hurt her more and more. One could describe the poem Daddyas a collection of Plath s most
depressive memories in her life.
Most or at least some may think this poem is about a girl who loses her father at a young age in
a concentration camp due to the poor living conditions. I was one of those people thinking that
was the case leading her to lose faith in God, much like how the Jews and others in concentration
camps lost their faith in God. It can be easy to come to this realization because of her use of Nazi
symbolism in the poem. That symbolism makes it hard for one to see that she is not literally in
a concentration camp, but feels as though she is figuratively in a concentration camp. When you
figure this out you can tell she uses the Nazi symbolism to describe how broken inside she felt as
did the people in the concentration camps felt. She feels so broken because she loses her father
at just 8 years old. A very reasonable and most likely action for a child that age is to tumble into
a deep spiral of depression. Plath herself falls victim to this deep confusion and more so
depression. A death of a loved one at that young of an age is already hard enough on an 8 year
old, let alone it being her father. Her father being someone she looked up to and loved so greatly,
perhaps even more than anyone, making the death even harder for her to bare. When you look
deeper into her father s death with research you can tell he died in boston and not a concentration
camp. This fact proving their family was not in a concentration camp and Plath was using the Nazi
symbolism to describe her feelings on the untimely death and how she felt wronged by the world.
Her father s death is where you can start to see Plath not understanding why

  • 2. Steve Jobs Influence Steve Jobs: A Inspiring and Influential Businessman The iPod, iPad, iMac, and iPhone all share one thing in common other than their elegant design. Their creator, Steve Jobs, oversaw the creation of many of these extremely personal and innovative electronics. He thought of technology and devices we did not know we needed or wanted because we never knew they existed. Although he was often called crazy, but his different ideas and rebelling personality drove him beyond what many expected of him as he built Apple and other companies. Steve Jobs is most admired for his co founding of Apple and NeXT, as well as his involvement in Pixar. • 3. Similarities Between The Aleph And The Zahir Some similarities between The Aleph and The Zahir is the fact that in both stories, the narrators clearly have the same name, Borges. In both stories the main characters, in a way, deny what they have seen. In The Aleph, Borges states that he has not seen the Aleph just so that he could get revenge on Carlos. In The Zahir, Borges sees a psychiatrist and instead of directly talking about the problems he is having because of the Zahir, he states that it is insomnia. Even though the Aleph and the Zahir are different in how they are perceived, they both are described as small circular objects. Differences between The Aleph and The Zahir are the effects they have on the characters. In The Aleph, whoever sees what is in the Aleph... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was not really into reading at the time, but I remember that my teacher made us read for at least fifteen minutes at the beginning of every class. If we did not have a book there were many books from her library to choose from. I believe this was one of the first books that I read in her class, and think I chose this book in particular because it stood out. I mean the title itself already piqued my interest. I honestly did not think that I was going to enjoy it as much as I did, It was such a bizarre read with all the strange events and abnormal characters. And in a weird way, the strangeness of the story was what I really liked. I do not think I would have liked it as much if it was not for that. It was one of the first chapter books that I did not have to force myself to finish. This was also one of the first books I read that really got me into loving to read. I just loved getting lost in another world and I wanted to keep reading books that did that for me. When I read A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez I was reminded of the time I discovered that I needed glasses. In the story, towards the end, there is a part where the old man becomes extremely weak that they thought he could die. It also mentions that his eyes became foggy and he starts bumping into things because he obviously can not see. This part of the story brings up the memory of me realizing that I ... • 6. Causes Of The Industrial Revolution By 1750, there was not much doubt that if any country was going to triumph in being the first industrial power it would be England (Hobsbawm 29). However, several factors were responsible for England s emergence as an industrial power. Some of the contributing factors for the Industrial Revolution were: the increasing importance of imperial goods such as cotton, cultural traditions that stemmed from the Renaissance and the Reformation, population change, and a government willing to subordinate all foreign policy to its economic ends. Socially, the Industrial Revolutionin England changed exponentially with the growing drift between the class hierarchy. Instead of reverting to social revolution as occurred in France, England experienced political reform during the Industrial Revolution that would become a symbol of hope for thriving countries. There has been much speculation on the exact reason the Industrial Revolution began in England in the late 18th Century, but certain components are undisputed for the Revolution s occurrence there. Initially, Britain already had a large, developed supply of coal and iron which gave the British a start in mass metallurgy (Perry 286). There also was a surplus of capital available for investments to be made in new industries; however, these funds came from wealthy landowners and merchants who had grown rich in commerce through the slave trade (Perry 287). • 9. Beautiful Mind Diagnosis Synopsis I watched A Beautiful Mind for this project. The movie is based on the real life experiences of John Nash. The film begins with Nash arriving at Princeton University for his first year. We are introduced to many of the main characters in the first few minutes of the film. We meet his enemy, who Nash believes he is smarter that, and his roommate who drinks too much but is always there as a helping hand for John. As Nash begins his collegiate career we begin to see some early symptoms of his disorder. Nash is a gifted math student obsessed with finding a new way to predict patterns. He studies pigeons, his classmates as they play football outside his dorm window, and even the way his classmates talk to women at the bar. We see Nash... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alicia s attitude toward his mental illness was understanding and supportive, while also pushing him to get better. The mental health professional in this movie is Dr. Rosen, who is only seen a few times in the whole movie. He is portrayed as a reasonable, logical man who is only there to help. Hyler s stereotypes of mental illness can be applied to this movie also. Instead of Nash and his disorder portraying him as a homicidal manic or the like, Nash was portrayed as another stereotype of Hyler s that is rarely depicted in modern films, the enlightened member of society. As we grow up looking up to them it becomes normal to see heterosexuality. Throughout my upbringing, my parents did not talk about homosexuality much. All of my family members throughout at least the first two generations identify as straight, so it was not something I grew up being around. Therefore it was never talked about in a positive or negative way. In biology class and church we are taught that we are on this earth to reproduce and contribute to the renewal of civilization. To do this the normal way you would get married and heterosexually reproduce. It is taught that the only natural way to have sex is inserting a penis into a vagina. Institutions reinforce this by continuing to teach children throughout their education that man and woman are the normal thing. This belief came from the fact that a female egg cannot turn into a fetus unless it is fertilized by a male sperm. The cycle of heterosexual socialization promotes heterosexism because it is promoted as the right thing to do throughout all forms of media and teachings. When all you see as a positive thing growing up is heterosexual, married couples with biological kids you are conformed to think that is the only way to find happiness. • 15. Embodiment In The Veldt Bradbury utilizes the veldt as an embodiment in the short story, The Veldt, to warn the audience that excessive admiration and dependence on technology will ultimately lead to physical and psychological damages on the development of humans. The future that Bradbury constructs around the Hadley family fully exaggerated the overall influence of technology on the characters daily life, thus, ending it with a suspenseful scene further aggravated the seriousness of possible damages done by the nursery room. The early signs of developmental damages are often the result of excessive permissiveness. Although the nursery room had cost half again as much as the rest of the house, (Bradbury 8) George and Lydia still bought it for their children. As widely acknowledged by many critics, technology can be extravagant and redundant in most cases. Yet, the Hadleys thought it was a necessity because the kids certainly enjoyed the company of privileged technology that unconditionally spoils them. Therefore, it was no wonder that Peter and Wendy formed a quick and intensive relationship with the nursery room as its main occupiers. In addition, George Hadley, similar in view to his children, was [also] filled with admiration for the mechanical genius who had conceived this room. He even considers it a miracle of efficiency selling for an absurdly low price, and claims that every home should have one. • 16. The Impact Of Fair Value On Financial Reporting Essay The most controversial topic of today s time in the world of accounting is fair value. However, one common point of confusion is the scale of businesses affected by fair value, and when fair value came onto the scene. According to Robert Herz and Linda MacDonald ...the use of fair value in financial reporting is not new. In fact, it has been in place for decades, principally for financial assets. But even then, fair valueis not required for all assets. (2008) The idea of using fair value measurements goes back at least to the 1930 s when Kenneth MacNeal wrote Truth in Accounting. It wasn t until 1993, however, until the FASB released SFAS 115. SFAS 115 addresses the accounting and reporting for investments in equity securities that have readily determinable fair values and for all investments in debt securities. (FASB 1993) In 2006 the FASB released SFAS 157, which established a framework for measuring fair value. SFAS 157 also requires significantly more disclosures about fair value estimates than ever before. (FASB 2006) Finally the FASB issues SFAS 159, which permits entities to choose to measure many financial instruments and certain other items at fair value. (FASB 2007) These statements set the stage for the discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of fair value. Also discussed, will be the problems with implementation of a full fair value measurement system. That discussion will be followed by a brief summary. II.Methodology The foundation of this paper ... • 18. Examples Of Being Oppressed Women Since the beginning of time, women were oppressed, mistreated, and not equal to men. They had great reasons to fight for the rights that they deserve, like the right to vote. But in today s world, the women who call themselves feminist believe that they are still at the same level of being oppressed as their ancestors were. As a result, women focus what they think they don t have in society and forget about the problems most men face every day. Feminism, although a very good practice, is abused in today s world by giving too much attention to women and not enough to men when talking about equality. As of now, 2016, men and women have equal rights, are treated the same in a legal matter, and both have similar ways of being oppressed. It would make sense that there would be a group run by both men and women to push for true equality, not one run by only women saying that their goal is equality, but in the end, only recognize oppressed women. The prejudice movement run by women with false, biased, and uneducated values affected how the young people in this world think about men. The play Antigone tells the story of a brave girl (one of Oedipus s daughters) who stands up against the law in order to honor her brother. • 21. Tupac Amaru Shakur s Change Essay The cry of injustice has become louder and louder and those people who are knowledgeable about their ancestral history, feel hopelessness in the midst of this unfortunate rebirth of the New Jim Crow. Their hopelessness is further fed and satisfied by the powers that be who arrange for African Americans to be unable to escape the extreme cycle of poverty forcing them to adapt the best way they can to their current situation; whether that be murdering someone like yourself or selling narcotics. Tupac Amaru Shakur, wrote the famous song Changes in 1992 but it was released after he was murdered, in October 1998. Tupac exposes the reality of commonly ignored societal ills such as racism, classism, and discrimination and establishes that unity is the only way out. Through the use of juxtaposition, allusion and call to action, Tupac illustrates his thoughts on racial desperation and its correlation to overarching racism during the period of social unrest in the United States and the importance of establishing a united front to fight back. Although written more than twenty four years ago, currently we are facing a heightened cultural climate in the United States and the relevancy of Tupac s song Changes is more than necessary. The limited trajectory of short narrative concentrates its meaning. Sign and sense can fuse to an extent impossible to achieve among the multiplying ambiguities of an extended narrative. Angela Carter Angela Carter is known in the literary community for her use of fairytales and overt sexual imagery in promoting feminist platforms. At the time she wrote The Bloody Chamber , the Second Wave of Feminism and, subsequently, the rise of radical libertarian feminism were crashing into the forefront of the global politics. This wave of feminism primarily focused on the empowerment of women through the exploration of female sexual identity, the promotion of androgynous females as the ideal model for the modern woman, and the liberation of women from the patriarchal societal traditions established to keep women in their submissive gender role (Formizano). Angela Carter transforms the classic fairytale Bluebeard into a masterful portrait of female sexual liberation, empowerment through gender role reversal, and financial independence in The Bloody Chamber . A central dogma of feminism is the separation of female sexuality from the societal confines of reproduction. In The Bloody Chamber , the female protagonist is a seventeen year old virgin who goes on a journey of sexual self actualization in her marriage to the Marquis. Throughout the narrative, we are ... Many of these animals are suffering with diseases and possibly growing tumors the size of their bodies. Worldwide, 24 animals die every minute in laboratories. Every year, 100 million animals die from such test. These tests are unethical, unnecessary, and is bad science. The ability to attain knowledge of something s existence encompasses philosophical ideas from a priori and a posteriori truths to ideas about universalism. Abstract ideas with concrete uses, such as shapes and numbers, are effective vehicles for such a discussion. I believe that mathematical objects exist as a priori truths and because they follow an axiomatic truththeory. The truth theory applied however, is unique to the metaphysical object being discussed. A statement such as 3+4=7 is considered a mathematical truth, as if the mathematical objects 3, 4 and 7 exist and facts can be made about them. (Note that nominalists would not agree that numbers exist in this sense however, as nominalist theories are often motivated by empiricist standpoints, which find no place for the existence of non spatiotemporal objects.) A potential problem with this is that one finds that mathematics has a hierarchy of abstraction, resulting in a plethora of more conceptual mathematical objects that become difficult to engage with. A given fact such as Fermat s Last Theorem: No three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation a^n + b^n = c^n for any integer value of n greater than two which requires 150 pages to prove and consumed 7 years of Andrew Wiles life to do so. The concepts that unfold from such a proof can be known because they are derived from the axioms of mathematics in logic , which was first fully established in logicism in 1884 by Gottlob Frege (see Thinking About Mathematics by Stewart Shapiro (2000), p.107 115). • 39. Anti Semitism In The Holocaust Before the Holocaust and the killing of millions of Jews, many events took place solidifying the hatred towards Jews in Germany. People in Germany did not hate Jews overnight, a long history of universal hate towards Jews took place first. Throughout history the Jewish people have been victims of anti semitism because they do not fully assimilate, causing them to be outsiders. This historical backing of anti semitism with the combination of a poor economy, strong German identity and humiliation, causes Germanyto have strong anti semitic sentiments during the 1920s and 1930s. Anti semitism started in seventy c.e. when the Romans destroyed the temple in jerusalem because the Jewsrefused to worship their gods (Bergen). The destruction of the temple was one of the first times in history people took action against the Jews and tried to harm them. The Jewish people were viewed as the others because of their religion and were punished for it. The romans did not stop at destroying the temple, the Jewish people were blamed for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, even when crucifixion was a roman form of execution (Bergen). The blame of killing Jesus caused many Christians to hate the Jews, and give the Christians and legitimate reason to discriminate. Blaming Jews for events that were not in their control is a pattern seen thru history. The Jews were also blamed for the black death in 1348, even when their was no evidence that the Jews caused a plague (Bergen). The build up of hate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Analysis Of Bruno Bettelheim s Beauty And The Beast Bruno Bettelheim, he analyzed fairy tales in terms of Freudian psychology, which is represented in his works of The Uses of Enchantment. Beaumont s story of Beauty and the Beast is where the first discovery of Beauty s problem was identified as the Oedipal complex. The Oedipal complex is a child s desire to have a sexual relation with the parent of the opposite sex, but it is repressed deep in the mind. Beauty in Beauty and the Beasthas a special bond of affection with her father; there is the problem that arises within this complex that what if she were to be stuck at the stage of development and never outgrow it. Within the fairy talewritten by Jeanne Marie Beaumont there is the representation of the period where she begins to transfer the affection to someone else. An analysis of Bettelheim s theory of the Oedipal complex reveals psychological problems of growing up in the written fairy tale and Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Bettelheim s theory is centralized on his argument of the importance of fairy tales on a child s development. This argument was proposed through The Uses of Enchantment, he suggested that fairy tales provided images to the children and with these images they could structure a better direction to one s life. Bruno Bettelheimfelt that the use of fairy tales for child s development represented good versus evil clearly, these stories helped children deal with problem of an inner self, the description of the heroes/heroines going out into ... Well for the lack of better word, un disciplined and almost childlike in behavior. For example in this scene in the Eatting, The mule looked as if had come to inspect something... Russell handed him one end of a roll of toilet paper, which the mule took... and then walked away carefully, gently, drawing the toilet paper out... There was really no reason for him to do this; he just wanted to do for its own sake. Also in this story Russell is described as eating out a whole restaurant of their eggs, and just being all around gluttonous. In contrast, Sissy is much more reserved and in control of her desires often having to give in to Russell s demands, like in The Cave where Russell wants sex every five seconds.... In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus used parables to illustrate the kingdom of God, which is defined as God s future display of power and judgment in which he rules over all creation. The parables assure that heaven is real and an afterlife exists. According to Jesus, parables are important because although we are given knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, they still require us to try to do some critical thinking and further reflect in order to understand the precise meaning behind the story; therefore, it is important to use the gift of understanding. A sower had dropped seeds in four different types of environments: a hard, empty footpath, a rocky ground with little soil, a bunch of thorns, and an area of good soil. • 57. Nazi Symbolism In Sylvia Plath s Daddy The whole point of the poem Daddy is Sylvia Plath showing her emotions of how drained she felt from losing her father at a young age and how one death affected her whole life. The use of Nazi symbolism can be confusing, but plays a huge part in understanding the full meaning of what Plath was portraying. The use of intense imagery shows a story of Plath s deepest emotions. The story Plath is describing is showing the reader her extreme depression and every big moment in her life that hurt her more and more. One could describe the poem Daddyas a collection of Plath s most depressive memories in her life. Most or at least some may think this poem is about a girl who loses her father at a young age in a concentration camp due to the poor living conditions. I was one of those people thinking that was the case leading her to lose faith in God, much like how the Jews and others in concentration camps lost their faith in God. It can be easy to come to this realization because of her use of Nazi symbolism in the poem. That symbolism makes it hard for one to see that she is not literally in a concentration camp, but feels as though she is figuratively in a concentration camp. When you figure this out you can tell she uses the Nazi symbolism to describe how broken inside she felt as did the people in the concentration camps felt. She feels so broken because she loses her father at just 8 years old. A very reasonable and most likely action for a child that age is to tumble into a deep spiral of depression. Plath herself falls victim to this deep confusion and more so depression. A death of a loved one at that young of an age is already hard enough on an 8 year old, let alone it being her father. Her father being someone she looked up to and loved so greatly, perhaps even more than anyone, making the death even harder for her to bare. When you look deeper into her father s death with research you can tell he died in boston and not a concentration camp. This fact proving their family was not in a concentration camp and Plath was using the Nazi symbolism to describe her feelings on the untimely death and how she felt wronged by the world.
