Persuasive Essay About Technology
Look around. Everyone has their faces buried into their phones, laptops, iPads, etc. Many people
would say that technology is taking over in our everyday lives. I, however, beg to differ.
Technology is one of the best things the human race could get their hands on. Yes it seems like
everything is in the Cloud or everyone is tweeting, reposting, Snapchatting, and liking everything.
But how I see it is, a way for people to communicate and share ideas they have with other like
minded people, accomplish papers and essays without having to go to a library because whatever
device you use, has a search engine that can search any question you have. As an aspiring computer
programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because someone is responsible for
the software and programs that allow a computer to run, the world around us is always adapting,
and without technology, where would computer programmersbe? If I received the Evolve IP Cloud
Scholarship, then the scholarship would be able to open so many doors for me because I would be
able to afford continuing my education.
To begin with, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my
career because someone is responsible for the software and programs that allow a computer to
run.Computer programmers have to make the software and programs so the world can use it. It
didn t just appear there. Someone had to make the plan before it could be something great. Look at
Snapchat. It didn t just start out as an amazing social media application. No, a team of programmers
came together and made the blueprints to what is now a great application for quickly sharing
photos with friends and family. It doesn t stop a just social media applications. There are
educational websites and apps such as Edmodo, where students and teachers can communicate with
one another, find class assignments, and even turn them in electronically. Who do you think had to
have done that?
Furthermore, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my
career because the world around us is adapting. We didn t get stuck back when medicines, indoor
plumbing, and cars did not exist. So why should we let technology become dated? Computer

Tale Of Two Cities Hate
Two of the most common literary motifs are love and hate. In Charles Dickens s novel A Tale of
Two Cities there is a constant battle between love and hate. Love is representative in friendship
and family. Hate is representative in revenge of the aristocracy. Lucie s love is very evident for
her friends and family, but her friends and family s have been just as evident. Dickens shows
that love overcomes hate, but with consequences when Darnay gives up his family name for the
good of France but is still sentenced to death, when Miss Pross loses her hearing as result of
defending the hypothetical life of Lucie Manette, and when Carton gives up his life for Lucie s
happiness. Darnay s family consists of some of the most awful people in France. His uncle, The
Marquis, symbolizes a Gorgon (114). But regardless of his family s standing in society and all
their money Darnay disowned his family by abandon[ing] (120) his family name for the common
good of his country, France. Even though Darnay acted with persistence and love, his name,
EvrГ©monde, still followed him through life. It caused him to be number one on Madame
Defarge s hit list. When Madame Defarge found out about Darnay and Lucie s wedding, she
continued knitting and said [his destiny] will lead him to the end that is to end him (178). He ends
up getting arrested twice and is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says to her for you [...] I would do anything (147). When Darnay is sentenced to death Carton
comes up with a master plan to switch with Darnay to take his place and fall into eternal sleep
(304) for the good of Lucie and her family s happiness. As the knitting women count twenty three
(363) Sydney Carton dies. By dying he is recalled to life, he is truly free (363) from the hate of
himself and the rejection he felt from others. Carton s unlimited love for Lucie overcame the
revolutionary s hate, but that came with the consequence of the death of a beloved

Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton
Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton is set in a small New England town in the early twentieth century. It
revolves around three main characters: Ethan Frome, a rural farmer; Zeena Frome, his chronically
ill wife; and Mattie Silver, Zeena s cousin who lives with them in a serving capacity. These
characters each have their own journey through this story, but those journeys entwine and affect
everyone else with the actions each character takes. Ethan Fromeas the title character perhaps has
the most important journey in this novel, though, and several recurring themes affect each of his
actions and decisions. Marriage, loveand desire, and desire versus duty are the themes most guiding
Ethan Frome as he works through his feelings for the two women in his life because they define
every step of his journey from beginning to end.
To begin, Ethan s unhappy marriage with Zeena is the starting point from which all of his
decisions are made. The marriage itself happened under almost false pretenses when Zeena
came to help care for his sick mother. After being in such an oppressive, silent environment for
so long, Zeena s volubility was music in his ears, and her capable, competent attitude restored
his shaken balance and magnified his sense of what he owed her (26). This initial exposure to
Zeena led Ethan to a kind of bedazzlement, so when he saw her ready to leave after his mother s
funeral, he was seized with an unreasoning dread of being left alone on the farm and asked her to

Walt Pvlo Code Of Ethics Analysis
In 2001, Walt Pavlo, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being convicted for
obstruction of justice, money laundering and mail fraud. Pavlo was once on top of the world and
now he was about to spend years in a cell. Pavlo s story began as a manager at MCI
Communications Corporation. He and his team oversaw billing and collecting for the company,
which went smoothly until customers stopped paying because of a decline in business in the
telecommunications market. Pavlo used a computer program he created to track transactions to
falsify transactions to cover up the lack of sales the company was experiencing. After half a year
of Pavlo s accounting fraud, MCI Communicationsauditors discovered it. By this time, according
to Neil Weinberg, Pavlo had [hidden] hundreds of millions of dollars in aging bad debts... [and
used] the same sleight of hand to skin $6 million on the sly for himself and a couple of partners.
He was arrested by the FBI and proceeded to confess to committing fraud, which led him to being
sentence 41 months in prison. The National Society of Professional Engineers believe that
engineers should exhibit the highest standards of honesty and integrity , which is the foundation of
their Code of Ethics for Engineers. Within this code, there are six fundamental canons, and Walt
Pavlo violated three of them. The first fundamental canon violated was that engineers shall act for
each employer or client as faithful agents or trustees. When Walt

A Life Cycle Ritual That Celebrates And Marks The Passage...
In life no matter what religion, ethnicity, gender, etc that all people are made up by we see that all
humans have the need to bring meaning to our lives, the Human Condition. We as humans, despite
having different qualities and each person being unique, Joseph Campbell presents us with the idea
that people are inherently more alike than we as people are different, the concept of Intrinsic
Sameness. This Sameness in all humans allows us to observe similar themes and meanings behind
our human ritualistic acts and stories, the stories that are very important to humans and how we
came to be to this day. There are many traits/stages/ common experiences that relate to all humans,
but to focus on two that have deep meaning and importance to any culture. A life cycle ritual that
celebrates and marks the passage into death, along with a belief story that brings meaning to a
culture similarly to other cultures world wide. The Chippewa (Ojibwe) culture focuses on these two
traits, a life cycle ritual that celebrates and marks the passage into death, along with a belief story
that brings meaning to the Chippewa Culture.
The Chippewa Tribe is a very historic and well known culture that works hard and respects
everyone while holding everyone as well to a very high regard. They see themselves as another
element of nature; no greater and no less than everything else on earth ( Flett 1). Their beliefs are

Single Most Rewarding Experience Analysis
2. Briefly describe your single, most rewarding experience. (This is limited to 900 characters
including spaces) The single, most rewarding experience for me is graduating from the
University of Miami. The exhilarating feeling of satisfaction and achievement, knowing this was
the conclusion of four years spent earning my degree, was truly gratifying. All of the hard work
and sacrifice culminated into one of the proudest moments of my life and it made me reflect on
how much I learned, not only as a student, but about myself as an individual. Being in a position
to share that moment with my family made the celebration all that much more important to me. I
witnessed how proud my parents were and created an influential path for my younger siblings to
follow in. My success proves to them that with the right mindset and hard work they can achieve
their own goals in life. I m still looking forward to advancing my education and becoming a
doctor, allowing me to experience this moment all over again. 3. Are there any areas of medicine

Jury System
The Jury System
CLU 3M1
By: Khalil Meghji
The jury system has been used for thousands of years to fairly determine innocence or guilt in a
trial. Although not utilized as much as in the past it is still used for most criminal and some civil
cases. This leads to an unjust legal system full of bias. The jury system was first seen in use by the
ancient Greeks thousands of years ago[1]. Though the system was the fairest way to produce a
verdict, it cannot apply today because society has endured a change which taints the foundation of a
fair trial by jury. Juries are much more open to tampering by interested parties through which can be
undetected by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can alter the impact of evidence or testimony and the juror cannot make an informed
decision. The jury is not familiar with the law which can lead to confusion about different legal
terms, what evidence is considered circumstantial and how to exclude that from their decision
after seeing it in court. A jury comprised of the general public are also much more open to being
influenced by how a lawyer presents their case and not by evidence. Since the jury does not have
any knowledge of forensics they can be influenced by expert witnesses put on the stand by both the
defense and the prosecution which are completely contradictory.
The jury system has been used for thousands of years however, there are more logical and
economical methods to judge innocence or guilt fairly. While the jury system is not only taxing
on the government s resources it is also very difficult for the juror s. A juror in Canada is not
compensated for trials under 10 days, if a trial runs from 11 49 days they get forty dollars a day,
after 49 days the juror s receive one hundred dollars per day[6]. To put a working citizen in the
position of losing up to ten days pay to serve in jury duty is very difficult. Being put into jury duty
potentially carries other costs such as childcare and transportation which is not covered by the
government.
The jury system has been in use for thousands of years and has produced many fair verdicts. This

Yellowtone And Hawaii Similarities
Yellowstone and Hawaii Comparison Hawaii and Yellowstone both attract millions of people per
year. Tourists go to Hawaii for sunshine and beaches, and to Yellowstone to experience the hot
springs and wonders of nature. Hawaii and Yellowstone may have differences, but what many
people don t know is that they are alike in numerous ways. Both Hawaiiand Yellowstone were
created by hotspot. A difference is that the Islands of Hawaii were created over thousands of years
because of a plate that is moving over a hotspot, and every once and awhile magma from the
hotspot pushes up and creates a volcano. In contrast, Yellowstone was formed when a hotspot
moved under it and over millions of years has caused eruptions which have shaped present day
Yellowstone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A similarity is that both Yellowstone and Hawaii are located in the middle of a plate, but Hawaii
is located on the Pacific plate where as Yellowstone is located on the North American plate.
Another reason they are different is that they have different crusts. Hawaii has an oceanic crust
which is thinner than continental crust, which is what Yellowstone has. A further example of how
they are similar is that they are both located above a hotspot. A hotspot is an area of volcanic
activity. Hawaii and Yellowstone are both major vacation destinations; they may seem completely
different, but they are actually quite similar. A difference between them is that people go to
Hawaii to see the volcanoes and go to Yellowstone to see Old Faithful and hot springs. Although
many people may think this is a difference, it is actually a similarity because all of these things are
volcanic activity caused by hotspots.Hotspots lie underneath both Yellowstone and Hawaii, but they
cause different geological activity in both places. An example of how they are different is that
Hawaii has the most active volcanoes on earth whereas Yellowstone s volcano is dormant. On the
other hand, they are both similar because they both produce geysers and hot

The Big Bang Model And The Steady State Model
The Universe
Joyce Claiborne
Professor Robert Leard

Abstract
For many years there has been a mystery on how the universe began. There are questions about the
ending of the universe and how. Hypothesis called cosmological that try to find the answer were
constructed by astronomers. The Big Bang model and the Steady State model are the two that were
constructed. These two models claims to explain the beginning and the ending of the universe. The
Big Band claims that about 15 to 20 Billion years ago, the universe violently exploded in to being,
there was an event called the big bang and began expanding rapidly. The Steady State Model
claims the universe has always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story of the universe can be traced back to it very first instants, according to the Big Bang
theory of its origins. In the Big Bang model, the universe was once infinitely small, dense and
hot. The radiation and matter of that early stage rapidly expanded and cooled. It condensed into
galaxies several million years later. It was not an explosion of matter into space, but an expansion
of space itself, and in the beginning, it brought time and space into existence. It is observe today
by astronomers that the universe is still expanding. Universe, Martin Rees September 17, 2012,
Penguin Publisher. In 1929 Edwin Hubble was able to correlate the distance in the universe with
their velocities, a relation known as Hubble s Law. Big Bang theorists later used this information to
approximate the age of the Universe at about 15 billion years old, which is consistent with the other
measurements of the age of the universe. According to radio astronomers Arno Penzias and
Robert Wilson in 1964 they discovered a microwave signal buried I their data. They attempted to
filter out the signal, assuming that it was merely unwanted noise, however, they had inadvertently
discovered the Cosmic Microwave Background. The CBM had been predicted by a theory that a
few believed at the time call the Big Bang. This discovery was first evidence that the Universe

Afghanistan. Khadr was captured for the murder of unarmed medic Christopher Speer. The US
had held Khadr for a period of ten years (from 2002 2012). During this time, Canada did not fulfill
its obligation to protect Omar Khadr and his rights. Canadafailed to protect Khadr and his rights
during three instances: Firstly, during the rough interrogation that involved various types of torture
Canada did not speak up for Khadr nor did they fight for his rights. Secondly, Canada did not

When terrorists from other countries such as Britain and Australia were captured the countries
put pressure on the US to release extradite the prisoners back to their home countries. Canada had
not asked nor demanded for this, it seems as though Canada was supporting the US s treatment
of Khadr. Canada had to take back Khadr once it was publicized that he was being tortured
almost every day. In addition to this, Prime Minister Stephen Harper had confidence that the US
military would try Khadr in a fair manner, but obviously he was wrong as Khadr was forced to
sign an unfair plea that would basically force him into Canada. Dennis Edney Khadr s former
lawyer states He has fought for close to eight years to get a pair of protective glasses to preserve
the amount of sight remaining in Omar s one eye with vision. He received them in November of
last year. That is the extent of the help Omar has received from the Canadian government, they
can t even get him a pair of glasses. (Edney 5). Khadr was going blind in Guantanamo and
requested a pair of glasses for eight years. Canada did not comply and didn t even speak to
Guantanamo about getting Khadr glasses; instead, they let the US treat the Canadian citizen very
harshly and not even provide him with a pair of glasses. Canada did not care about Khadr instead
they just let the US deal with him unfairly. Canada should have been more involved in the treatment
of Khadr and should not have supported the US while they were violating Khadr. Unlike the other
countries such Britain and Australia Canada did not pressure the US to extradite Khadr. In addition
to this, they stood by the US s strong torture methods due to the fact that Canada did not speak up
when Khadr was sent to Guantanamo, even though Guantanamo was famous for torturing its
prisoners.

When you come home and plop down on the couch, you may notice that your Bully has left behind

Les Brooks De Bois De Dieu
Les Bouts de bois de Dieu by Ousmane SembГЁne is a 1960 novel. Published in the same year as
the independence of eight African countries, the novel details the events of the 1947 1948 railroad
strike on the Dakar Niger railway. Based on the historical events of the 1947 and 1952 strikes in
Senegal, SembГЁne portrays the collective power of the workers in overcoming the inequalities of
the black community in French colonial Africa at this time. SembГЁne s use of literary techniques

In the first chapter we are introduced to Niakoro and her granddaughter Ad jibid ji. Niakoro is an
elderly woman, trГЁs ГўgГ©e and through the lengthy and unfavourable description SembГЁne
gives of her, we are presented with a rundown figure who is out of touch with the world,
somewhat isolated from the younger women in her community.8 Conversely, SembГЁne s
representation of Ad jibid ji is more sympathetic.9 In using three successive adjectives when
describing her, sa maturitГ©, sa spontanГ©itГ©, sa luciditГ© , SembГЁne quickens the pace
presenting her as an exciting and animated character.10 In SembГЁne s sympathetic portrayal of
Ad jibid ji especially in contrast with that of Niakoro, we see that he favours the child and a new
generation of forward thinkers. Ad jibid ji represents an ideology of modernity and evolution
that SembГЁne sees as fundamental in the success of the liberation struggles of the workers.11
Additionally the relationship between these two characters is also favourable to the idea that
Ad jibid ji is a prototype for the women of the future. The two struggle to agree with each other
on matters regarding the role of women in society, especially regarding the strike. Ad jibid ji is

establishes a negative mentality towards the strike and has the potential to hold back progress.
However, due to her advanced age Niakoro poses no threat to the liberation struggles.14 Similarly,

Essay on Comparing the Two Versions of To Build a Fire
Comparing the Two Versions of To Build a Fire
I am absolutely confident that beyond the motif itself, there is no similarity of treatment
whatever (544). Jack London, writing in December 1908, was responding to an inquiry from the
Richard W. Gilder, editor of Century Magazine. Gilder, having just published To Build a Fire in
his magazine, was worried when he came across another version published 6 years earlier. London
s explanation was that the first story was for boys and the new one was for men; the only similarity
being the motif itself. Through careful analysis of the two stories, in light of this letter to Gilder,
and another letter to Cloudesly Johns, it is apparent that although London claims no similarities ...

This ending more clearly illustrates the dangers of the Klondike. The first version is more a
morality tale, ending with the moral of Never travel alone! (62). The second version is more of a
good short story, with the ending that is, regrettably, all too common in that part of the world. The
main character never gets a chance to change his ways and travel with a companion the proverbial
next time. He learns the lesson with the most severest of consequences: death. Another interesting
difference is the fact that in the 1902 version the main character is Tom Vincent; however in the
second version, the man has no name. This gives the main character in the 1908 version a feeling
of universality.
In 1900, before either of these two stories was published, Jack London wrote a letter to a good
friend, Cloudesly Johns, explaining his philosophy on good fiction writing. This letter is an
invaluable resource when studying the work of Jack London, especially when comparing the two
versions of To Build a Fire. London emphasized quite a bit in this letter with many exclamation
points and capital letters. That was only because of the passion with which he was writing about
writing. His main point was to not be to scientific, or empirically (530) scientific. He explains not
to tell the reader what your philosophy is, but rather to have the characters tell it by their deeds,
actions, talk, etc. (531). He then moves on to talk about atmosphere, and

Electric Versus Gasoline Powered Vehicles
Electric Versus Gasoline Powered Vehicles
Every year we hear about electric cars more and more, and understandably so. With the rising cost
of gasoline, and environmental concerns among others, it is not surprising that people would want
more energy efficient vehicles. So now that automobile manufacturers have started producing these
types of vehicles, how do they compare to their gas powered counter parts?
To answer this question you must first understand how they work, there advantages and
disadvantages then you can see how the compare.
Gas Powered Vehicles
Gas powered vehicles have been the standard for over 60 years, they are powered by an eternal
combustion engine which use a mixture of air and fuel ignited by a spark to create energy to turn
the engine thus powering the vehicle. Technology, engine design, and materials used have changed
considerably since the first automobile rolled of the line making modern engines more efficient.
The Upside
Listed below are few of the upsides to a gas powered vehicle.
The Infrastructure Exists: Gas stations are everywhere, as well as stores carrying everything
necessary to keep your vehicle running and shops to repair or replace parts.
Fuel Tank Capacity: The amount of fuel a gas powered vehicle can hold enables them to travel
great distances on a single tank before needing to refuel.
Cheaper Sticker Price: Gas powered vehicles are typically cheaper to buy than an electric vehicle of
comparable size and style.
The Downside

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Photovoltaic Basics
Photovoltaic basics
The sun is the main source of energy on earth, providing the planet with radiant energy which is
transformed once it reaches every substance on the planet into a different kind of energy, making
the wind blow, the seas flow and all atoms move. The energy in the Wind and sea have been used
for centuries and nowadays thanks to the photovoltaic effect, a part of this vast energy can be
harnessed and directly transformed into a more usable way of energy, electricity.
The photovoltaic effect can be vaguely explained as the creation of electric potential and current
once light is absorbed in a semiconductor material. A semiconductor material, can be doped with
other elements in order to force the creation of a certain quantity of free carriers, electrons in n
type and holes in p type semiconductors. When put together, this two differently doped materials
form the PN junction where, through the diffusion of carriers, (i.e. electrons diffuse to the p type
semiconductor and holes to the n type), an area called depletion zone is generated. Then,
absorption of a photons in a semiconductor, generates more electron hole pairs increasing the
potential in the device and by connecting the separated regions by means of a conductor, the free

These restraints can also happen on any floor throughout of the hospital with authorization from a

Aquarius Alternate Ending
It was another regular Saturday in the Wesley household. Euphoria and Aquarius the middle
children of the four siblings had woken up first. Euphoria was a tall and slender fourteen year old,
with mocha skin, tight curly hair, and light silver eyes that sparkled in the sunlight. Meanwhile
Aquarius was tall for his age, being eleven, and had a dark brown skin, which contrasted against
his blue eyes, and black hair. All of which supported his cheerful personality.
Euphoria warmly greeted her younger brother, who was watching a rerun of a cartoon they had
previously watched little over a week ago. Good morning Aqua, the early bird gets the worm I see.

Everest was the oldest, a freshly turned eighteen year old. She had caramel skin and dark amber

the leader of the siblings.
Avalon trailed slowly behind, she was the younger twin of Aquarius, only by two minutes. she

the same dark skin as her brother, only with cat shaped green eyes and curly black hair. She was

Outline For The Most Dangerous Game
The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell is about a talented hunter named Sanger Rainsford
who gets stranded on an island. On the island he meets General Zaroff who is also an extremely
talented hunter who has hunted over hundreds of animals, but now has a new hunting interest.
Rainsford finds out that General Zaroff s new huntinginterest is hunting men who get stranded on
this island. General Zaroff gives the man a head start on hiding and when midnight comes he starts
to find them. If the man last 3 days on the island without being seen by General Zaroff he wins, but
if he finds him he gets hunted. Rainsford soon realizes that he is next to play the most dangerous

I think this is the message in the story because during the story Rainsford is very proud to be a
good hunter, but he didn t think about the perspective of the animals. He only thinks that hunting is
a sport he is passionate about but he doesn t care about the hundreds of animals that he killed.
During the story he gets to experience the other perspective of hunting and he realizes how the
animals felt when he was hunting them. Before Rainsford thought that animals had no
understanding of pain and death when they were being hunted, but after experiencing being hunted
he now knows how the animals felt. I think this is what the author is trying to say to get us to

Future Of Journalism In Canada
If I had to predict the future of journalism in Canada, I would probably say that it will be
characterized by diversity of voices, high competition, professionalism, and versatility. Canada is
one of the most liberal and democratic countries when it comes to mass media and press, so I
would assume this trend will persist. Among positive trends in Canadian journalism, I would single
out diversity, interactivity, and professionalism. Diversity. The biggest media outlets in Canada are
not censored by the Government and are relatively free to provide honest, balanced, and unbiased
coverage of events. Many of these outlets have opinion writers or columnists who openly express
their stance on politics, education, foreign affairs, etc. This carnival of opinions... Show more

99 per cent of journalists who work for news outlets have their own Twitter account where they
interact with readers. Many large digital editions maintain and monitor platforms for discussions
and commentary. Professionalism. Although professionalism is a very subjective feature, I believe
that most Canadian news outlets and journalists adhere to the code of ethics and report the news in
a timely manner, with a lot of attention to detail and without any bias. Professionalism is reflected
in the quality of reports mainstream news sources and large newsrooms provide balanced and
concise reporting of events. Among negative trends in Canadian journalism I would name
competitiveness, low quality of content, and sponsored content (native advertising).
Competitiveness. Based on my observation, the amount of freelance writers, journalists, and
communicators is steadily increasing. Since the field offers so much diversity, minimal education,
and less technical skills, many claim to be journalists. Therefore, the industry often settles for lower
quality and a better price, versus hiring highly trained and experienced

The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior
Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of
animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack,
1968), wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa,
1990). Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging
success, and improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social
behaviours evolve when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation
risk is lowered in social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall
et al., 1986; Smith and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more... Show more

Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced
risk of predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include
sticklebacks (Krause and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles
(Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981).
By keeping close to others and forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance,
predator confusion, and the dilution risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that
individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish
herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely excepted as a explanation for the selfish
grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish herd theory states that individuals
within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting other individuals between
themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971). Hamilton s proposed
theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was based on mutual
benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own selfish
reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and
Moore, 2011). In groups, predation risk is greatest on the outside edge and lower towards the

Child Protective Services And Foster Care
A child living in the 21st century is no stranger to poverty and the desperate lifestyles it promotes.
Too often the case, children, living in families with incomes below the nation s poverty line, are
limited to criminal activities, low level education, and blue collar employment. Furthermore, years
of economic strife in the United States have invited a cycle of povertyto predetermine the lives of
children in poverty stricken families, where they are raised with insufficient care and inadequate
resources in unstable environments. Not that it is in any way the fault of the parents, whose
financial situation isn t always an accurate reflection of their parental capability, the government s

In accordance to Dorothy Roberts, professor of Law and Sociology at the University of
Pennsylvania, Foster Care addresses family economic deprivation with child removal rather than
services and financial resources. Moreover, the activities of the Foster Care system, despite it
being a vital component of the nation s child welfare systems, offers a temporary solution to
treat the cycle of poverty, removing children, like one would in the case of an earthquake, away
from the vicinity, except in this case it s their homes and families. This is done when the
providing of services and financial resources would do more than suffice, and as a result one
third of children in foster care are black, despite black children making up only 15 percent of the
nation s children. (Roberts) In addition to this, the racial imbalance present in the child welfare
system feeds off the notion that children with African American parents are more at risk than
children with white parents. A study done by PBS showed that in Chicago 95 percent of
children in foster care are black., and in 1997, New York City s foster care system had only
1,300 white children, with black children 10 times as likely as white children to be in state
protective custody. (Roberts) black children in the child welfare system are placed in foster care at

Taking a Look at Neurotransmitter Release
Neurotransmitter release is a key step to neuro transmission, in the middle of the 20th century; it
has been clearly revealed that chemical signals transfer the great majority of the information in the
brain. Therefore, different neurochemistry approaches have been emerged to investigate
neurotransmitter release process. Later, introducing a radiolabeled precursor into the CNS and
measuring the accumulation of a radiolabeled product have made critical improving and
developing in vitro preparations approaches including isolated nerve ending fractions or
synaptosomes, cultured cells and tissue slices. However, in this study we focused on the use of brain
slices, as well as intact structure giving a close picture of th in vivos situation. The tissue slice
method was introduced by Warburg in 1920s to investigate the energy metabolism of tissues slice
and Henry McIlwain extended it to study brain metabolism. Currently, slices structure is an
accepted technique for studying many aspects of neurobiology. Slices are made using a mechanical
device, such as a tissue chopper or vibrato me. Subsequently, they are immediately transferred into
cold carbongenated iso osmotic salt solution. Tissue slices are used with and without radiolabeled
tracers dependent on the case of studies. Subsequently they are transferred into small chamber and
superfused 1 hour with fresh carbongenated medium to achieve stability. Following equilibration
slices can then be exposed to chemical and/or electrical

The Nervous Systems ( Cns ) And The Peripheral Nervous System
The nervous system is the part of the human body in charge of coordinating the reception of
external stimuli and the response the body gives to them. It is equipped with sense organs called
receptors, which are in charge of transforming the stimuli s energy into nerve impulses [1]. To emit
an external response, the nervous systemuses effectors that can be either muscles or glands.
We can divide the nervous system into two separate systems: the central nervous system (CNS) and
the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS consists of the brain and the spinal cord and is
protected by the cranium and the vertebral column, respectively. The PNS is in charge of
connecting the CNS with the receptors and the effectors. To transfer the information from one part
of the body to another, a specialized type of cells called neurons is used.
Neurons are in charge of a communicative function. They perform two different types of activities.
The first one consists in helping the conduction of a signal from one part of the cell to another. The
second activity they perform is synaptic transmission, which means communication between
adjacent cells.

while there are multiple dendrites per each neuron. Dendrites are used to conduct the received

Human Spinal Deformities Using 3d Reconstruction Techniques
Literature Survey on Human Spinal Deformities using 3D Reconstruction Techniques
Introduction:
Spine and its deformities: Scoliosis is a complex three dimensional (3 D) deformation of the trunk
that requires orthopedic treatment in 5 out of 1000 persons [1]. It is described as a lateral
deviation of the spine (Fig. 1), combined with asymmetric deformation and axial rotation of the
vertebrae, deformation of the rib cage and possibly of the pelvis.
The human spine is divided into cervical (7 vertebrae C1 C7), thoracic (12 vertebrae Tl T12), and
lumbar (5 vertebrae L1 L5) sections above a fused sacrum (Fig. 2). While the spine normally has
no lateral curvature, there are normal side view curves including lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis
and cervical lordosis. Scoliotic curves are considered thoracic when the apex lies between T2 and
T11, thoracolumbar at T12 L1, and lumbar from L2 L5. Each vertebra consists of an anterior
weight bearing vertebral body and posterior elements that protect the spinal cord and enable
muscular and ligamentous attachments (Fig. 3). Particularly in severe scoliotic curves, asymmetric
loads on the vertebrae encourage asymmetric growth of the vertebral elements, with one result
being that despite a substantial underlying spinal curve the spinous processes may deform to
produce a relatively straight line on the back surface. The spine, composed of vertebrae connected
by fluid filled intervertebral discs, is a loose and

Big Rock Candy Mountain
Today I was given a set of poems to read and choose one to analyze. I decided I would use Big
Rock Candy Mountain as my poem of choice. I recognize this poem as a song written by Harry
McClintock in 1928. The song is one of the few that can still make sense in today s culture and
society and in my opinion is the mark of a truly great writer. The speaker of the poem is a hobo
that was hiking on the trails. Given that the poem was written in 1928, during the Great Depression,
he sounds wistful and hopeful of the mystical Big Rock Candy Mountains. He is talking to some
folks he happened to pass by on his way down the track. The speaker ultimately sounds like
someone who is down on their luck and only has hope left. Without taking the time frame in which
the poem was written, you can feel an undertone of depression and longing. Throughout the poem,
the hobo speaks about this perfect paradise in the Big Rock Candy... Show more content on

The only word that is never rhymed is the word Mountains which is the last line of every stanza. I
feel the writer chose not to rhyme it to further set the Big Rock Candy Mountains apart as paradise
on Earth. The title of the poem as well as it being the last line of each stanza further emphasizes this.
The Big Rock Candy Mountain is the hobo s version of paradise on Earth. The theme for this
poem is dreams and wishful thinking. The author illustrates this by having the poem have a nice
upbeat tone to it. Where all your hopes and dreams will come true and you can just spend your day
how you may.
Poems like these are still written in today s society but are expressed through different mediums
than the poetry of old. While this song was originally released in 1928, it didn t gain popularity
until 1939. In today s society, poems are found more often in music than in a book, although those
are common too. Song s in today s society often rhyme or tell a story and can be analyzed just as

The Polish government voted and approved a constitution post communism in 1997. The 1997

If you live in America your life should be better, fuller and richer for everyone, but if you belong

In some cases the words used are open to interpretation, which can lead to conflicting decisions
based on the meaning of a single word. There is no clear statutory definition of assault or battery,
this means that it is often left to a judge to decide his own meanings of the words and apply them
in a case. This could lead to injustice as he may decide more strict meaning than is widely
accepted as a definition. With the more serious offences the words are often antiquated and in
some cases misleading for example assault and maliciously . This is because it is an old piece of
legislation, and the vocabulary used in 1861 has evolved to have different meanings in modern
England. The wording has also lead to a gap in the law, with, in certain cases defendants getting off
a crime, which in terms of common sense he is guilty of. For instance if man in the street
threatens to kill you it would be seen as assault. But if he shouts that he is going to kill you
tomorrow in the eyes of the law that is not an assault, even though any reasonable person can see
that it is a clear danger to the person the threat is directed to.
Another area of criticism is the hierarchy of the offences; the offences are listed in terms of
seriousness with the most serious offences being first in the Act. There are major differences in the
sentencing within the sentences and this has lead to criticism. For

Comparing Matthew And Mark s Gospel
Matthew s Gospel was written for a Jewish Christian community. This is evident because Matthew
never explains Jewish tradition. Matthew s Gospel was written in about 85 90 AD. Matthew was
writing to a community in Northern Palestine or Southern Israel. The community that Matthew was
writing the gospel for was in crisis. After the destruction of the temple, the community was trying
to figure out how to be a follower of Jesuswithout the temple or the land. In the gospel, Matthew
writes about a variety of themes. He writes about the conflict and promises made to Israel.
Similarly to Mark s Gospel, Matthew writes about outreach to gentiles and discipleship. Matthew
also includes themes relating to the old testament, church organization, and final judgment. In
Matthew s Gospel, the role of faith is prominent. In the healing stories, the focus is on the
conversation between Jesus and the person he is healing and the secondary people and actions are

Comparing The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight
How culture affects our views Today s culture changes how we behave and act. The Lone Ranger
and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings are excellent examples
of this. For example, in The Lone Ranger the narrator is stopped by the police as they said You re
making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Like the narrator in
The Lone Rangerboth stores how someone s cultureaffects the way they act and think. Our culture
changes how we behave and react to everyday events. I will start by going through each story
giving and explaining examples and how they are related. The first short story I m going to talk
about is The Lone Ranger and TontoFistfight in Heaven. The first example of this is when the
narrator is stopped by the police and they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the
profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Right after this the narrator is talking about how he is unable
to fit into anywhere because of how the culture views native Americans. This is an excellent
example of how the culture around the narrator has changed how he thinks about others within his
culture. Another interesting event in The Lone Ranger is when... Show more content on

In the cast of The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven it s when he shouts, and some cops
show up a few minutes later, in the case of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings its when the
chicken coop is turned into an attraction. Both events show how both the angel and the narrator
must deal with the culture around them. Its not that angels found that people find his interesting or
trapped him within the chicken coop. However, in The Lone Ranger and Fistfight in Heaven the
narrator tries a different approach and starts to act how culture expect him to be unlike the angel
that is confused all the time about what is going on throughout the

Analysis Of The Book Searle s Chinese Room
Johnson Lai (400014979)
TA: Andrew Lavigne
Philos 1E03
Searle s Chinese Room
The Turing Test is a test described by Alan Turing to define whether a robot has indistinguishable
human intelligence or behaviour. John Searle attempts to disprove the theory of the Turing Test
through his Chinese Room thought experiment. In this experiment, Searle proposes that a man
unwittingly communicates to a native speaker through the use of a program. Searle presents the
prepositions that artificial intelligence is solely syntactic and do not constitute conscious intention
that the man in the room did not display knowledge yet communicates through rules and functions.
Through the Chinese Room experiment, Searle attempts to refute functionalism through the
definitions of semantics, intentions, and simulation. However, Searle does not clearly distinguish
the definitions and aspects of the implications of his arguments against the Turing Test; ultimately,
this leads to lack of context and failure to account for all cases against the Test.
Argument 1. Syntax and semantics . To begin, John Searle takes into account that humans
understand semantics and syntax. That concludes that an intelligent being can demonstrate
intention and consciousness through the use of meaning with semantic symbols or behaviours.
Searle s first argument is that programs are purely formal (syntactic) (Cole, 1). This argument
ignores the science behind how computers and human brains work. The neural

Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Essay
Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, which was written by William
Shakespeare in 1599. The Elizabethans totally believed in fate, they believed that your destiny
was fated. They also believed that fate was fickle, it could change, one day everything would be
good and the next day things could be really bad. If you challenged fate, it would take up the
challenge. If it wasn t fate there are many more things which could have caused the tragedy; the
feud, this means that everything that happens in Verona ends in violence, Friar Lawrence, shouldn t
have married them and shouldn t have suggested such a dangerous plan, which was playing with
their lives, the Nurse should have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the nurse agrees to be the go between, she thinks she has no choice because she is the
servant and Juliet is the boss I am the drudge and toil in your delight . Romeo and Juliet meet at
the balcony and Juliet proposes to Romeo, so he goes to the friar to arrange the marriage. The
friar marries them, when he wouldn t normally marry to people from different families because
of the feud but this time he does. He doesn t want to at first, but he changes his mind as he thinks
it may end the quarrel between the two families. But after they have got married; fate seems to
turn against them. During the marriage ceremony Romeo says that now he has married Juliet
nothing can go wrong. This challenges fate. When the fight starts Mercutio and Tybalt are only
messing around but Romeo reminds them about the prince s decree. It is in this fight scene when
fate starts to work against Romeo because when he steps in to stop the fight there is an accident
and Mercutio gets killed. A plague a both your houses! They have made worms meat of me .
Mercutio curses both houses because he also blames Romeo for getting in the way. Romeo should
report this to the prince but instead he starts fighting with Tybalt and this is serious because he
reacts with his emotions and wants revenge. O I am fortunes fool Romeo thinks that fate just wants

Overview Of The Superannuation Industry
Overview of the superannuation Industry The introduction of superannuation funds is to provide
retirement and death benefits to its members as the increase in Australia s ageing population has
become problematic. By encouraging individuals to save more throughout their working life and to
place those funds their retirement, the aim is to ensure a lesser proportion of public funds are
directed towards pensions and enhance the living standards of retired Australians (ALRC, 2013).
The fund is set up as an indefinitely continuing fund. Superannuation funds are managed by a
trustee and are regulated by APRA and ASIC. To be eligible to receive a serviceable tax treatment, a
Superfund must be accommodating with the Superannuation Industry... Show more content on

The Australian superannuation industry has also been reported to have increased in growth
ever since the year of 2009, up to 2015 the growth exceeds the annual gross domestic product.
The trends seen in recent year indicates that by lowering the cost, members benefit from greater
values, which leads to a lower fee being passed onto its members. The main objective of the
Australian superannuation industry is to come up with solutions that mainly focus the needs of
a retired individual. However, this objective is restricted as the industry is meeting the demands
of individual with limited capacity (KPMG,2015). Members of Australian Super have access to
14 different investment options that can be split into two categories either, members can either
invest in a diversified fund or focus their investments on a single Sector(RateCity, 2016).
Premixed options are diversified options that allow members to invest in a variety of asset
classes such as shares, property, infrastructure, fixed interest and cash. While DIY Mix options
are single asset class portfolios. Members are granted the ability to choose how much they want
to invest in each in a mix that can also include one or more PreMixed options, this option gives its
members more control over their allocation (INVESTMENT CHOICE GUIDE, 2016) . Each of
these plans consists of 3 Socially Responsible strategies. The Australian Super grants their members

The Arab Spring And Its Aftermath Essay
The Arab Spring and its aftermath have become one of the most influential events of the twenty
first century. The series of revolutions reshaped several governments within the Middle East by
outing long reigning dictators that the people had become progressively frustrated with. The Arab
Spring both aligns with and contradicts several previous waves of revolution and is truly a twenty
first century conflict because of the role that modern technology played. Through studying the
Arab Spring, political scientists have been given a glimpse into what future revolutions might
look like, especially in regards to the expanding role of social media. In order for revolutions to
occur, there must be several necessary structural conditions, which were all present during the Arab
Spring. First, there must be fiscal strain, which is often caused by demographic changes within the
region (Goldstone 2014). Many Middle Eastern countries during the early twenty first century
experienced a youth bulge due to policies encouraging childbirth (Amar and Prashad 2013) . This
new wave of young people, especially the young men, were unable to find jobs and the subsequent
financial stability (Amar and Prashad 2013). This led to dissatisfaction with the government and
frustration that would soon turn into anger once a specific queue, according to relative deprivation
theory, ignited the group (Gurr 1970). This queue was in the form of the self immolation of a fruit
seller named Mohamed Bouazizi

  • 2. Persuasive Essay About Technology Look around. Everyone has their faces buried into their phones, laptops, iPads, etc. Many people would say that technology is taking over in our everyday lives. I, however, beg to differ. Technology is one of the best things the human race could get their hands on. Yes it seems like everything is in the Cloud or everyone is tweeting, reposting, Snapchatting, and liking everything. But how I see it is, a way for people to communicate and share ideas they have with other like minded people, accomplish papers and essays without having to go to a library because whatever device you use, has a search engine that can search any question you have. As an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because someone is responsible for the software and programs that allow a computer to run, the world around us is always adapting, and without technology, where would computer programmersbe? If I received the Evolve IP Cloud Scholarship, then the scholarship would be able to open so many doors for me because I would be able to afford continuing my education. It didn t just appear there. Someone had to make the plan before it could be something great. Look at Snapchat. It didn t just start out as an amazing social media application. No, a team of programmers came together and made the blueprints to what is now a great application for quickly sharing photos with friends and family. It doesn t stop a just social media applications. There are educational websites and apps such as Edmodo, where students and teachers can communicate with one another, find class assignments, and even turn them in electronically. Who do you think had to have done that? Furthermore, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because the world around us is adapting. • 5. Tale Of Two Cities Hate Two of the most common literary motifs are love and hate. In Charles Dickens s novel A Tale of Two Cities there is a constant battle between love and hate. Love is representative in friendship and family. Hate is representative in revenge of the aristocracy. Lucie s love is very evident for her friends and family, but her friends and family s have been just as evident. Dickens shows that love overcomes hate, but with consequences when Darnay gives up his family name for the good of France but is still sentenced to death, when Miss Pross loses her hearing as result of defending the hypothetical life of Lucie Manette, and when Carton gives up his life for Lucie s happiness. Darnay s family consists of some of the most awful people in France. His uncle, The Marquis, symbolizes a Gorgon (114). But regardless of his family s standing in society and all their money Darnay disowned his family by abandon[ing] (120) his family name for the common good of his country, France. Even though Darnay acted with persistence and love, his name, EvrГ©monde, still followed him through life. It caused him to be number one on Madame Defarge s hit list. As the knitting women count twenty three (363) Sydney Carton dies. By dying he is recalled to life, he is truly free (363) from the hate of himself and the rejection he felt from others. • 6. Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton is set in a small New England town in the early twentieth century. It revolves around three main characters: Ethan Frome, a rural farmer; Zeena Frome, his chronically ill wife; and Mattie Silver, Zeena s cousin who lives with them in a serving capacity. These characters each have their own journey through this story, but those journeys entwine and affect everyone else with the actions each character takes. Ethan Fromeas the title character perhaps has the most important journey in this novel, though, and several recurring themes affect each of his actions and decisions. Marriage, loveand desire, and desire versus duty are the themes most guiding Ethan Frome as he works through his feelings for the two women in his life because they define every step of his journey from beginning to end. To begin, Ethan s unhappy marriage with Zeena is the starting point from which all of his decisions are made. The marriage itself happened under almost false pretenses when Zeena came to help care for his sick mother. After being in such an oppressive, silent environment for so long, Zeena s volubility was music in his ears, and her capable, competent attitude restored his shaken balance and magnified his sense of what he owed her (26). This initial exposure to Zeena led Ethan to a kind of bedazzlement, so when he saw her ready to leave after his mother s funeral, he was seized with an unreasoning dread of being left alone on the farm and asked her to stay ... Pavlo was once on top of the world and now he was about to spend years in a cell. Pavlo s story began as a manager at MCI Communications Corporation. Pavlo used a computer program he created to track transactions to falsify transactions to cover up the lack of sales the company was experiencing. After half a year of Pavlo s accounting fraud, MCI Communicationsauditors discovered it. In life no matter what religion, ethnicity, gender, etc that all people are made up by we see that all humans have the need to bring meaning to our lives, the Human Condition. We as humans, despite having different qualities and each person being unique, Joseph Campbell presents us with the idea that people are inherently more alike than we as people are different, the concept of Intrinsic Sameness. This Sameness in all humans allows us to observe similar themes and meanings behind our human ritualistic acts and stories, the stories that are very important to humans and how we came to be to this day. Although not utilized as much as in the past it is still used for most criminal and some civil cases. This leads to an unjust legal system full of bias. The jury system was first seen in use by the ancient Greeks thousands of years ago[1]. Though the system was the fairest way to produce a verdict, it cannot apply today because society has endured a change which taints the foundation of a fair trial by jury. This can alter the impact of evidence or testimony and the juror cannot make an informed decision. The jury is not familiar with the law which can lead to confusion about different legal terms, what evidence is considered circumstantial and how to exclude that from their decision after seeing it in court. A jury comprised of the general public are also much more open to being influenced by how a lawyer presents their case and not by evidence. Since the jury does not have any knowledge of forensics they can be influenced by expert witnesses put on the stand by both the defense and the prosecution which are completely contradictory. The jury system has been used for thousands of years however, there are more logical and economical methods to judge innocence or guilt fairly. While the jury system is not only taxing on the government s resources it is also very difficult for the juror s. A juror in Canada is not compensated for trials under 10 days, if a trial runs from 11 49 days they get forty dollars a day, after 49 days the juror s receive one hundred dollars per day[6]. To put a working citizen in the position of losing up to ten days pay to serve in jury duty is very difficult. Hawaii and Yellowstone may have differences, but what many people don t know is that they are alike in numerous ways. Both Hawaiiand Yellowstone were created by hotspot. A difference is that the Islands of Hawaii were created over thousands of years because of a plate that is moving over a hotspot, and every once and awhile magma from the hotspot pushes up and creates a volcano. A further example of how they are similar is that they are both located above a hotspot. A hotspot is an area of volcanic activity. Hawaii and Yellowstone are both major vacation destinations; they may seem completely different, but they are actually quite similar. A difference between them is that people go to Hawaii to see the volcanoes and go to Yellowstone to see Old Faithful and hot springs. According to radio astronomers Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson in 1964 they discovered a microwave signal buried I their data. Essay on Comparing the Two Versions of To Build a Fire Comparing the Two Versions of To Build a Fire I am absolutely confident that beyond the motif itself, there is no similarity of treatment whatever (544). Jack London, writing in December 1908, was responding to an inquiry from the Richard W. Gilder, editor of Century Magazine. Gilder, having just published To Build a Fire in his magazine, was worried when he came across another version published 6 years earlier. London s explanation was that the first story was for boys and the new one was for men; the only similarity being the motif itself. Through careful analysis of the two stories, in light of this letter to Gilder, and another letter to Cloudesly Johns, it is apparent that although London claims no similarities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ending more clearly illustrates the dangers of the Klondike. The first version is more a morality tale, ending with the moral of Never travel alone! (62). The second version is more of a good short story, with the ending that is, regrettably, all too common in that part of the world. The main character never gets a chance to change his ways and travel with a companion the proverbial next time. He learns the lesson with the most severest of consequences: death. Another interesting difference is the fact that in the 1902 version the main character is Tom Vincent; however in the second version, the man has no name. This gives the main character in the 1908 version a feeling of universality. In 1900, before either of these two stories was published, Jack London wrote a letter to a good friend, Cloudesly Johns, explaining his philosophy on good fiction writing. This letter is an invaluable resource when studying the work of Jack London, especially when comparing the two versions of To Build a Fire. London emphasized quite a bit in this letter with many exclamation points and capital letters. That was only because of the passion with which he was writing about writing. His main point was to not be to scientific, or empirically (530) scientific. He explains not to tell the reader what your philosophy is, but rather to have the characters tell it by their deeds, actions, talk, etc. (531). He then moves on to talk about atmosphere, and ... With the rising cost of gasoline, and environmental concerns among others, it is not surprising that people would want more energy efficient vehicles. So now that automobile manufacturers have started producing these types of vehicles, how do they compare to their gas powered counter parts? To answer this question you must first understand how they work, there advantages and disadvantages then you can see how the compare. Gas Powered Vehicles Gas powered vehicles have been the standard for over 60 years, they are powered by an eternal combustion engine which use a mixture of air and fuel ignited by a spark to create energy to turn the engine thus powering the vehicle. Technology, engine design, and materials used have changed considerably since the first automobile rolled of the line making modern engines more efficient. The Upside Listed below are few of the upsides to a gas powered vehicle. The Infrastructure Exists: Gas stations are everywhere, as well as stores carrying everything necessary to keep your vehicle running and shops to repair or replace parts. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Photovoltaic Basics Photovoltaic basics The sun is the main source of energy on earth, providing the planet with radiant energy which is transformed once it reaches every substance on the planet into a different kind of energy, making the wind blow, the seas flow and all atoms move. The energy in the Wind and sea have been used for centuries and nowadays thanks to the photovoltaic effect, a part of this vast energy can be harnessed and directly transformed into a more usable way of energy, electricity. The photovoltaic effect can be vaguely explained as the creation of electric potential and current once light is absorbed in a semiconductor material. A semiconductor material, can be doped with other elements in order to force the creation of a certain quantity of free carriers, electrons in n type and holes in p type semiconductors. When put together, this two differently doped materials form the PN junction where, through the diffusion of carriers, (i.e. electrons diffuse to the p type semiconductor and holes to the n type), an area called depletion zone is generated. Future Of Journalism In Canada If I had to predict the future of journalism in Canada, I would probably say that it will be characterized by diversity of voices, high competition, professionalism, and versatility. Canada is one of the most liberal and democratic countries when it comes to mass media and press, so I would assume this trend will persist. Among positive trends in Canadian journalism, I would single out diversity, interactivity, and professionalism. Diversity. • 26. The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack, 1968), wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa, 1990). Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging success, and improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social behaviours evolve when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation risk is lowered in social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall et al., 1986; Smith and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced risk of predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include sticklebacks (Krause and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles (Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981). By keeping close to others and forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance, predator confusion, and the dilution risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely excepted as a explanation for the selfish grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish herd theory states that individuals within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting other individuals between themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971). Hamilton s proposed theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was based on mutual benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own selfish reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and Moore, 2011). Too often the case, children, living in families with incomes below the nation s poverty line, are limited to criminal activities, low level education, and blue collar employment. Furthermore, years of economic strife in the United States have invited a cycle of povertyto predetermine the lives of children in poverty stricken families, where they are raised with insufficient care and inadequate resources in unstable environments. In accordance to Dorothy Roberts, professor of Law and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, Foster Care addresses family economic deprivation with child removal rather than services and financial resources. Moreover, the activities of the Foster Care system, despite it being a vital component of the nation s child welfare systems, offers a temporary solution to treat the cycle of poverty, removing children, like one would in the case of an earthquake, away from the vicinity, except in this case it s their homes and families. This is done when the providing of services and financial resources would do more than suffice, and as a result one third of children in foster care are black, despite black children making up only 15 percent of the nation s children. • 29. Taking a Look at Neurotransmitter Release Neurotransmitter release is a key step to neuro transmission, in the middle of the 20th century; it has been clearly revealed that chemical signals transfer the great majority of the information in the brain. Therefore, different neurochemistry approaches have been emerged to investigate neurotransmitter release process. Later, introducing a radiolabeled precursor into the CNS and measuring the accumulation of a radiolabeled product have made critical improving and developing in vitro preparations approaches including isolated nerve ending fractions or synaptosomes, cultured cells and tissue slices. However, in this study we focused on the use of brain slices, as well as intact structure giving a close picture of th in vivos situation. The tissue slice method was introduced by Warburg in 1920s to investigate the energy metabolism of tissues slice and Henry McIlwain extended it to study brain metabolism. Currently, slices structure is an accepted technique for studying many aspects of neurobiology. Slices are made using a mechanical device, such as a tissue chopper or vibrato me. Subsequently, they are immediately transferred into cold carbongenated iso osmotic salt solution. Tissue slices are used with and without radiolabeled tracers dependent on the case of studies. Subsequently they are transferred into small chamber and superfused 1 hour with fresh carbongenated medium to achieve stability. • 30. The Nervous Systems ( Cns ) And The Peripheral Nervous System The nervous system is the part of the human body in charge of coordinating the reception of external stimuli and the response the body gives to them. It is equipped with sense organs called receptors, which are in charge of transforming the stimuli s energy into nerve impulses [1]. To emit an external response, the nervous systemuses effectors that can be either muscles or glands. We can divide the nervous system into two separate systems: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS consists of the brain and the spinal cord and is protected by the cranium and the vertebral column, respectively. The PNS is in charge of connecting the CNS with the receptors and the effectors. To transfer the information from one part of the body to another, a specialized type of cells called neurons is used. Neurons are in charge of a communicative function. They perform two different types of activities. The first one consists in helping the conduction of a signal from one part of the cell to another. The second activity they perform is synaptic transmission, which means communication between adjacent cells. Figure 1.1 Neuron structure. • 31. Human Spinal Deformities Using 3d Reconstruction Techniques Literature Survey on Human Spinal Deformities using 3D Reconstruction Techniques Introduction: Spine and its deformities: Scoliosis is a complex three dimensional (3 D) deformation of the trunk that requires orthopedic treatment in 5 out of 1000 persons [1]. It is described as a lateral deviation of the spine (Fig. 1), combined with asymmetric deformation and axial rotation of the vertebrae, deformation of the rib cage and possibly of the pelvis. The human spine is divided into cervical (7 vertebrae C1 C7), thoracic (12 vertebrae Tl T12), and lumbar (5 vertebrae L1 L5) sections above a fused sacrum (Fig. 2). While the spine normally has no lateral curvature, there are normal side view curves including lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis and cervical lordosis. Scoliotic curves are considered thoracic when the apex lies between T2 and T11, thoracolumbar at T12 L1, and lumbar from L2 L5. Each vertebra consists of an anterior weight bearing vertebral body and posterior elements that protect the spinal cord and enable muscular and ligamentous attachments (Fig. 3). Particularly in severe scoliotic curves, asymmetric loads on the vertebrae encourage asymmetric growth of the vertebral elements, with one result being that despite a substantial underlying spinal curve the spinous processes may deform to produce a relatively straight line on the back surface. The spine, composed of vertebrae connected by fluid filled intervertebral discs, is a loose and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The speaker of the poem is a hobo that was hiking on the trails. Given that the poem was written in 1928, during the Great Depression, he sounds wistful and hopeful of the mystical Big Rock Candy Mountains. He is talking to some folks he happened to pass by on his way down the track. The speaker ultimately sounds like someone who is down on their luck and only has hope left. There is no clear statutory definition of assault or battery, this means that it is often left to a judge to decide his own meanings of the words and apply them in a case. This could lead to injustice as he may decide more strict meaning than is widely accepted as a definition. With the more serious offences the words are often antiquated and in some cases misleading for example assault and maliciously . This is because it is an old piece of legislation, and the vocabulary used in 1861 has evolved to have different meanings in modern England. Searle presents the prepositions that artificial intelligence is solely syntactic and do not constitute conscious intention that the man in the room did not display knowledge yet communicates through rules and functions. Through the Chinese Room experiment, Searle attempts to refute functionalism through the definitions of semantics, intentions, and simulation. However, Searle does not clearly distinguish the definitions and aspects of the implications of his arguments against the Turing Test; ultimately, this leads to lack of context and failure to account for all cases against the Test. Argument 1. Syntax and semantics . To begin, John Searle takes into account that humans understand semantics and syntax. That concludes that an intelligent being can demonstrate intention and consciousness through the use of meaning with semantic symbols or behaviours. Searle s first argument is that programs are purely formal (syntactic) (Cole, 1). This argument ignores the science behind how computers and human brains work. The neural ... • 43. The Arab Spring And Its Aftermath Essay The Arab Spring and its aftermath have become one of the most influential events of the twenty first century. The series of revolutions reshaped several governments within the Middle East by outing long reigning dictators that the people had become progressively frustrated with. The Arab Spring both aligns with and contradicts several previous waves of revolution and is truly a twenty first century conflict because of the role that modern technology played. Through studying the Arab Spring, political scientists have been given a glimpse into what future revolutions might look like, especially in regards to the expanding role of social media. In order for revolutions to occur, there must be several necessary structural conditions, which were all present during the Arab Spring. First, there must be fiscal strain, which is often caused by demographic changes within the region (Goldstone 2014). Many Middle Eastern countries during the early twenty first century experienced a youth bulge due to policies encouraging childbirth (Amar and Prashad 2013) . This new wave of young people, especially the young men, were unable to find jobs and the subsequent financial stability (Amar and Prashad 2013). This led to dissatisfaction with the government and frustration that would soon turn into anger once a specific queue, according to relative deprivation theory, ignited the group (Gurr 1970).
