Madame Cj Walker Biography Essay
There is no royal flower strewn path to success. And if there is, I have not found it for if I have
accomplished anything in life, it is because I have been willing to work hard. Madame CJ Walker In
my previous writings, I ve shared my mission and purpose. I also included information regarding my
professional background to amplify my values and vision. However, I would like to explore the life of
one exemplary business leader Madame CJ Walker. Walker s path to success was during a tumultuous
time in our American history.
America is a multi cultural mosaic, because of the different cultures, ethnicities, religions, and creeds.
However, African Americans and especially African American women have been marginalized in
centers of power due to years of oppression. Therefore, to celebrate my heritage I decided to discuss
the moral platform and accomplishments of Madame CJ Walker. Walker developed and marketed
beauty and hair care products for women of color during the Jim Crow era. She is considered to be a
self made millionaire that valued social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

end of slavery. Although, slavery had been abolished, political reforms implemented discriminatory
laws to maintain control of the black race The Reconstruction Era. Therefore, like her ancestries
Breedlove s prospects foretold a story of poverty and drudgery. After the untimely death of both of her
parents, Breedlove moved in with her sister. However, to escape the abuse of her sister s husband
Breedlove married and gave birth to her only child, but by the age of 20 years old, Breedlove was a

her young daughter moved to Missouri where she worked as a cook and a laundress for an annual

Methods Of Detecting Clandestine Malware Using Behavior...
Bibliographical Reference
In learning about Surreptitious code, specifically malware code I wanted to learn more about how to
detect hidden, secret, or misleading malware on a system and how to remove or even prevent it. The
article of choice was Causality reasoning about network events for detecting stealthy malware
activities by Hao Zhang, Danfend Yao, Naren Ramakrishnan and Zhibin Zhang. The article was
published in the Computers Security Journal, Issue 58 in 2016, pages 180 to 198.
Objectives The authors of this article stated the purpose of the article was to describe methods of
detecting clandestine malware using behavior and signature based methods. The authors;

et al., 2016, p. 180). Malware creators get paid if their software is installed and runs so newer malware
has to over come, evade, and fool the anti malware software that it might come up against. Thus more
and more of the modern malware is being created to be installed surreptitiously, and then run
clandestine. The authors attribute the malware being harder to detect because modern security
solutions rely on the ability to recognize known code and signatures.
This article was the summary of research conducted in order to introduce a network request level
causal analysis for malware detection (Zhang, H. et al., 2016, p. 181). The major premise of the article
was that they propose the use of algorithms to search and monitor triggering events. Triggering events
that were not caused by a user action were referred to as vagabond requests (Zhang, H. et al., 2016, p.
183). Events that were occurring without legitimate cause by a user interaction, requests or initiation
were viewed suspiciously as possible malware activities (Zhang, H. et al., 2016, p. 183). Examples
given were DNS requests given without the user requesting it, or information being sent to a site
without authorized initiation.
The next step was to formulate the problem of triggering relation discovery (TRD) in network requests
(Zhang, H. et al., 2016, p. 184). The two train of thoughts are to use rule based discovery detection
and learning based discovery detection as the means to record and evaluate

6. There is rich cost data given in the case. This must be used to understand how much profits / market
share LT can achieve at various production levels ( we must assume that they product what they sell)
7. Though numbers given in the cost data can not be contested, I would definitely contest the way total
cost has been computed. The item 345 department operates within a large manufacturing facility that
churns out number of other products too. Hence judging the profitability of item 345 on the basis of
total cost is not practical.
8. I would like to remove allocated costs and fixed overheads and see what would be the variable cost.
If this is done, you can see that the variable cost hovers around 7 FF. ( Not many of you have done
this)
9. As the product manager, I would argue that my primary task is to ensure a healthy contribution
(Selling Price Variable Cost). This is logical because my salesmen sell other products too and the
selling overhead is an allocated cost. Moreover, the general plant overheads are also allocated costs.
10. My total variable costs look something like this. The one highlighted in green color.

Soft Drink Industry Case Study
1. Why, historically, has the soft drink industry been so profitable? There are several reasons why the
soft drink industry has been so profitable. One reason is because these soda companies directly
distribute to stores that sell their product. They do a good job in avoiding a middle man which would
cost a lot more. Instead, they handle all the packaging and bottling before the soda gets to the shelf so
they don t have to pay those extra costs associated with a middle man and keep all that profit. Also,
carbonated drinks are cheap to produce and have a high profit margin. Every aspect of the making and
bottling process is inexpensive so it makes it very easy to turn a profit. This is the same for both
bottles and fountain sales. For the fountain all you have to do is install the fountain and then refill it so
it is inexpensive. Another way they are profitable is because these soda companies have contracts with
stores making it impossible for competitors to sell their version of CSD s in the same location. They
put the contracts in place in order to avoid another company selling and taking their profit and also so
the stores and restaurants won t make it competitive for them when it doesn t have to be. These soda
companies also do a great job of sponsoring events in which helps promote their products which in
turn drives profit. These soda companies also partner with certain locations in order to offer incentives
if you buy the sodas. For example, if you buy a ticket to a

ELI Top Five Values
Based the the information in the ELI my primary values are no preference between Rationality and
Sensibility and Mild Autonomy , and my classical virtues are balance temperance and prudence Being
moderate and self restrained while making wise decisions in everyday affairs. Additionally, my five
top values from the clarifying your values exercise are competence, excitement, freedom,
honesty/integrity, and honor. Having primary values in the ELI suggesting that I will likely make
decisions based on both emotions, and principles is supported with my five top values from the
Clarifying Your Values exercise. For example, excitement, freedom, and to some degree honor can be
associated with emotional thoughts, or being sensitive to others, and community expectations. Where

Sara Magee s article, High School is Hell: The TV Legacy of Beverly Hills, 90210, and Buffy the
Vampire Slayer (2014), argues that both television shows positively changed and impacted teen based
programs during and after their air time. Magee supports this claim by providing descriptions of how
teens were depicted in teen based dramas prior to the 1990 s and how these two shows introduced
controversial topics that made teens think about their actions. Magee s purpose is to point out how
these two shows broke the norms of traditional teen dramas that focused on the ideal teen lifestyle in
order to show that Beverly Hills, 90210 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are the predecessors of
controversial teen dramas of the 21st century. Based on the

THE EMIC VERSUS ETIC DILEMMA IN CROSS CULTURAL MARKETING RESEARCH: A
PERSONAL CONSTRUCT THEORY PERSPECTIVE Richard E. Plank, Western Michigan
University ABSTRACT Cross cultural research in marketing, particularly involving the measurement
of behaviors and attitudes using methodologies which require the respondent to respond to scale type
questions, is difficult as well as time and resource intensive. A major issue is the so called emic versus
etic dilemma which focuses on whether or not the measure is culture bound (EMIC) or can be used
across all cultures (ETIC). This paper argues, based on personal construct theory, that behavioral type
measures or scales must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the construct is culture or time bound, that means that it may be inappropriate for the particular
culture as well as the time period in question. In the sociology literature Hage (1972) suggested that
such theoretical concepts as bureaucracy were either culture or time bound whereas the construct
degree of complexity was not likely to be time or culture bound. The second issue deals with the
operational definition of the theoretical concept. The question becomes do the indicators have
meaning to the respondent in light of culture and time. In other words, is this how the respondent
defines the construct in their own mind Just because a sentence or idea translates from one language to
another does not mean that the idea is the same for both cultures, or for that matter even among
different people from the same culture. Personal construct theory provides some insights into this
issue as well as some methods for establishing whether or not a measure is culture free. Hofstede
(1980) provides some additional interesting commentary on the general problem. He notes that
ethnocentrism is present in most measures used in cross cultural research, and thus instruments should
be developed cross culturally. In fact, he notes that ethnocentrism is common not only in research
design and instrumentation, but also in data collection and in

The Film Grizzly Man
The film Grizzly Man aims to demonstrate the common cliche, not everything is how it seems. It
follows a man of the name Timothy Treadwell: his life before his death, his actual death, and the
impact of his death. He spent 13 summers of his life within close proximity of grizzly bears until one
takes his life. Before this event, the public only knew him as a passionate nature enthusiast, with his
focus mainly on bears. They found entertainment in watching a cheerful idiot embracing these animals
as friends. However, the film makes an effort to show that Treadwell has more depth as a person by
examining his past and consulting with those close to him for why his life lead up to this point.
Though there is an benevolent intention in his actions,

will have a long term impact on a child s life. (Anna Reyner, 2000) Over the last decade, the arts in
public school have been on the decline. Due to rigorous schedules as well as strict curriculums, many
teachers interviewed on this topic have admitted to not incorporate the arts into various lessons solely
because of time constraints. This paper will research what the effects of the art integration into other

Comparing Utopia And Machiavelli s The Prince
Counsel to Royalty Thomas More s Utopia and Machiavelli s The Prince both concern themselves
with the fundamental issues of how a society works and maintains itself. The goals behind the two
works, however, differ considerably. The goal of Utopia is to illustrate the maintenance of an ideal
society and the goal of The Prince is to instruct a prince, or ruler, on how to maintain his state. On the
surface, these two goals may seem similar but the difference lies in the way the authors handle the
subject of power. As a manual, prince treats power as a necessity, a goal, to be worked towards and
maintained, almost at all costs. Utopia, a fantasy, treats power as something all individuals have;
rather, they are empowered. In both Utopia and The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Machiavelli begins by offering a short defense of why he, an ordinary citizen, should know more than
rulers about the art of ruling. He uses a metaphor to justify himself: a person standing on a mountain is
best positioned to survey the landscape below, and a person standing below is best positioned to
survey the mountain. Similarly, Machiavelli writes, to comprehend fully the nature of people, one
must be a prince, and to comprehend fully the nature of princes one must be an ordinary citizen (pg.4).
Implicit in this claim is the idea that the removed perspective of an observer is a more reliable guide
than practical experience and a better means of improving the art of ruling. Machiavelli asserts that he
is most qualified to write the art of ruling for the prince because of his previous experiences and
studies. He states that a person who is not a prince is most competent to help or teach the prince, since
he knows and understands the people which the prince rules, and sees the prince s job from another
point of view. Since Machiavelli encompasses the outside point of view; he feels he could improve the
art of ruling better than someone who occupies a higher rank than he. One discrepancy in Machiavelli
s notion of the important of counsel for the Prince occurs when Machiavelli warns of flatterers, of
whom courts are full because men are so self complacent in their own

Summary Of The Triptych Melencome, And Knight, Death And...
The triptych Melencolia I (1514), St. Jerome in his Study (1514) and Knight, Death and the Devil
(1513) by Albrecht Dürer are allegoric copperplate engravings, known as the old master prints, which
embody the three spheres of human activity: the intellectual , theological and active 1. Whereas the
latter focused on the strengths of humanity through the figure of the knight , who perseveres despite
the threat death and immorality pose to the mind, the former highlighted man s hamartia in this
conflict: our curiosity, for a level of knowledge akin to the divine, that first caused humanity to fall in
the Bible.
Similar to Knight, Death and the Devil, the setting for Melencolia I is separated into two worlds. The

imbalance between thought and the corporeal world the study s surroundings, such as the cushions,

depicted saint, due to his ties to the movement: in St. Jerome in his study however his depiction also
correlates with the first translation of Jerome s biography in German. Despite this, the saint is not the
focal point of the engraving, as Melencolia is: instead Dürer draws attention towards the objects
surrounding St. Jerome, emphasising the figure s self imposed isolation in his pursuit of knowledge.
Biblical symbols can be interpreted from the gourd vine above the study, referencing Jonah: You had

The Is A Hot Topic Across The World Essay
Equality is a hot topic across the world. Not only concerning gender, but in regard to social class, race,
disability, income, and ethnic group, among others. In Canada, we like to think of ourselves as a
country as progressive in that aspect. In actuality, however, this is not as necessarily true as we would
like to think. After the 2011 Election, female representation in the House was at 26%. While this
seems good at first, it is still below what the United Nations recommends as ideal for a shift in policy
and government (Anderssen, 2015). Moreover, some political scientists estimate that it will be another
century at least before Canada achieves gender parity (Anderssen, 2015).
Considering this, what exactly could be done to accelerate our nation s movement toward
egalitarianism for all? One such idea is that of reserving certain seats in the House of Commons for
members of specific groups (women, natives, etc). Almost invariably, however, a host of problems
follows along in its shadow. The mission of this essay is to analyse the positives and negatives of this
approach towards equality within the government, as well as to extrapolate whether or not it should be
enacted within the Canadian government using examples from overseas and across the border.
Reservation Policy 101

The Bloody Chamber Symbolism
In The Bloody Chamber, Angela Carter tells the tale of a seventeen year old girl who marries an older,
wealthy Marquis. Like many other clever authors, Carter gives the reader an opportunity to determine
the outcome of the story before the ending is reached through her symbolism and allusions which
foreshadow the ending. In doing so, she not only provides insight into what will happen next but also
further develops each of the characters through these complex symbols that she incorporates
throughout the story. Carter first alludes to the outcome of the story by introducing the ruby choker
that the Marquis gave as a wedding gift within the first few pages of the narrative. She describes it as,
a choker of rubies, two inches wide, like an extraordinarily precious slit throat (6). The reader can
infer a considerable amount from this one simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He orders her to put on that white dress you wore to hear Tristan and the necklace that prefigures your
end, suggesting as though he has known her demise was inescapable from the moment he gave her the
choker (40). Regardless of whether or not the reader had missed the clues that Carter left earlier in the
story, this reference to the choker is much more explicit, as it contrasts the dark ruby color with the
bright white dress. This illustrates the theme of innocence versus violence, which is seen all
throughout the story. The explicit revelation of the necklace prefiguring her end shows that the
symbolism that Carter incorporated in the story begins subtler and becomes more straightforward
towards the end. While not all of Carter s elements of foreshadowing may have been as lengthy and
apparent as the ruby red choker, not a single one fell short of its quality and effectiveness in helping
her to reach the overall effect of building anticipation and increasing tensions throughout the

These individuals may suffer from schizophrenia and hear the voices of their dead victims speaking to

rest of the population. The section Killing for companionship (Fox Levin, Chapter 7) fits the
schizophrenia disorder because serial killers described in this section were more likely to experience

Horton Vs. California Case Essay
DuPont1 Dylan DuPont 10/22/16 CJA 356 criminal evidence Week 4 final paper Horton vs. California
On June 4th, 1990, Terry Brice Horton vs. California was a United States Supreme Court case in
which the Court held 7 2 that the Fourth Amendment does not prohibit warrantless seizure of
evidence, which is granted due to the plain view doctrine. The discovery of the evidence does not have
to be inadvertent, although that is a characteristic of most legitimate plain view seizures. The victim
was Erwin Wallaker he was robbed of jewelry and cash, in his own garage by two men, one armed
with a machine gun and one with a stun gun. Wallaker heard enough of the robber s conversation to
identify Horton s voice. His identification was partially corroborated by a witness who saw the
robbers leaving the scene and by evidence that Horton had attended a coin show. Sergeant LaRault
determined there was enough evidence to search Horton s home, and obtained a warrant to do so. His
affidavit for the search warrant described both the weapons and the proceeds of the robbery, but the
warrant only granted permission to look for the stolen property. While searching Horton s house,
Sergeant LaRault did not find the property, but he did find an Uzi machine gun, a .38 caliber revolver,
two stun guns, and a handcuff key, along with other items linking Horton to the crime. The evidence
was admitted into the trial, and Horton was found guilty of armed robbery. Horton Argued that the

reasonable. The policy prompts the concern of unknown people and objects through its representation
of danger. On the contrary, students do not know every individual on the campus and it is unjustified
to have a policy implying that every unknown person can act suspiciously. The policy suggests
students should stray from their daily routine when they feel as if they are in danger. Students are

Holy Grail Supernatural
The grail is a mystery kept at the centre of Arthurian myth, for it s transcendence signifies a
supernatural glory worth seeking. Chretien de Troyes esoteric representation of the grail invites only
those initiated to discover it s secrets of the supernatural within the tale. In this essay, I will examine
how the representation of the supernatural in Chretien de Troyes The Story of the Grail and Wolfram
von Eschenbach s Parzival uncovers mystery and religious contemplation. The Holy Grail is globally
known as an element of the Arthurian tradition; a cup that Jesus drank from at the Last Super and held
his blood after the crucifixion, legends reveal that the grail lays hidden in a magic castle and only a
knight of pure heart can find it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until one Good Friday he is stopped by three knights who question his devotion to the Lord and tell
him of the hermit who lives deep in the forest. The forest represents the supernatural for the forest is
thick and dense and filled with mystery. A horrendous lady reveals to Perceval that due to his lack of
thought and compassion terrible wars will ensue when the King dies of his wounds. In the forest,
Perceval s cousin changes his name to Perceval the Wretched, since he failed to heal the king, he will
be cursed and man s illness will befall him and others. The holy hermit in the story signifies the
religious aspect; he is Perceval s uncle and is depicted and lives through the glory of God . After
Perceval s spent five years not worshiping God, the Hermit reunites with him and teaches him about
religion. The Hermit declares that the grail is a holy and spiritual thing, which can sustain life. This
episode of Perceval ends with the imagery of God s crucifixion. Chrétien de Troyes tale is considered
an enigmatic text because it is incomplete and abruptly ends here. The Story of The Grail did interlace
the supernatural and religion surrounding the prophecy of the Holy

The Experience Side Of Consciousness
Consciousness is part biology, ...each state of consciousness is composed of a number of basic
psychological processes such as memory, thought, sense of time, body perception and the senses of
hearing, smell, taste, and so on , and part experience. (Wilber 52) I am going to focus on the
experience side of consciousness because it is less concrete than the genetic side. It is a concept that is
socially constructed to define an abstract phenomenon. Consciousness is the awareness of being
conscious. A theory that I believe, regarding why humans seek out altered states/consciousness, is an
evolutionary speculation. Charles Whitehead, in Altered Consciousness in Society, writes that humans

Lines of development are ...areas of knowledge that we acquire as we grow from childhood into
adulthood (Combs 35). The Spiral Dynamics of Culture chart starts at the Magical and Animistic stage
of development. Stages are typically associated with age, a child is likely to be in the Magical and
Animistic stage and believe in mystical signs, like having an imaginary friends, with great focus on
safe clans, nests, and powerful elders . A developing child who has aged and progressed from the
Magical and Animistic period is likely to be associated with the next stage, the Impulsive and
Egocentric . This includes raw power displays, immediate pleasure, and attention seeking behavior .
The Impulsive and Egocentric period is considered more developed than the stage prior. It is important
to note that people are unable to skip stages, one must endure each period, which will allow them to
have the mental capacities to enter the next developmental phase. This can be defined as the fulcrum,
the cause for people to move from one stage to another. The next phase, Purposeful and Authoritarian ,
is supposedly where the average US citizen stands on the spectrum. (Walden Lecture 11/15/16)
Aspects of this developmental period include only one right way, sacrifice for honor, and orders from
authority . This particular graph includes four more

Green Children By Samuel Foust
The Green Children of Woolpit There have been many legends and myths told throughout history.
There are so many different versions and theories of these stories that have been formed by one s
opinions of what they think happened. There are usually no hard facts to prove details of these events,
or if they even occurred. One of these stories is the green children of woolpit. There are many
different opinions and theories about it. Although there are many accounts of this story, they are all
pretty similar in telling the same story. It starts with two children, a girl and a boy, with green tinted
skin who had wondered to the village of Woolpit speaking a foreign language. The boy eventually
died when he and his sister became ill, but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument that Foust presents is The reason I believe they are aliens is their green skin and the
language they spoke was all unknown and mysterious to us humans. Also, the place filled with
perpetual twilight is not a place that is on Earth (Foust n.p.). Even though I do not agree with this
theory, it is sensible as to why one would believe this. Without being presented with the facts of the
matter, it could seem as if there would be no other explanation other than aliens. However, the green
skin is easily explained by illness. The language the children might have seemed strange to the
villagers of woolpit, but they could have just been speaking Dutch, which is the language that most
Flemish people speak. Since the children were Flemish fleeing from their hometown, they most likely
used underground passages and even maybe sewer holes, it is possible the children could have
mistaken the places they traveled as being in perpetual twilight. In Foust s essay Green Children Are
Aliens , he presents the logical fallacy, Hasty Generalization, which means the author jumps to
conclusions based on little evidence. This logical fallacy is used when Foust says The reason I believe
they are aliens is their green skin and the language they spoke was all unknown and mysterious to us
humans. Foust provides little evidence to prove his theory that the children were aliens, the only
evidence he provides is they had green skin and spoke a language the villagers could not understand.
There are so many possibilities of what the green skin could have been caused by such as: arsenic
poisoning, hypochromic anemia, malnourishment, etc. Just because they had green skin does not mean
they were aliens. Also, the language the children spoke may have been just strange to the villagers of
Woolpit, chances are they were speaking Dutch. Dutch is the common

Twenty two year old Justin Rollins was the son of a close family friend of the Preston family, who was

Where Men Win Glory, by Jon Krakauer
Where Men Win Glory is an ironic euphemism for war. The title is ironic because there is nothing
glorious about war or the way it ended Pat Tillman s beautiful life. Jon Krakauer orchestrates this
masterpiece with his diligently, articulated descriptions and with a timeline sewn together from the
threads of two worlds. The author s style can best be characterized by his challenging, precise diction
and his ability to fluently intervene pertinent quotes and facts that further persuade the reader toward
his cause. Throughout the book, the author s tone harnesses resentment towards the militant hierarchy;
for through its ingenuousness, deceit, and manipulation, the military uses Pat s death as propaganda to
bolster the war s support. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where Men Win Glory epitomizes the ideal environment for a family to thrive and advance. As a
child, Pat and his brother were left to their own devices when playing in their expansive backyard.
With few TV channels and an infinitesimal media presence, Pat and Kevin experienced a nurturing
home that instilled positive virtues and allowed them to grow as human beings from an early age. This
enabled them to be who they were mature, sophisticated, and virtuous human beings. Even with that
being said, sometimes one must undergo a momentous change to hasten the learning curve Pat was no
exception. Change is a hackneyed cliché for what can truly be a life altering metamorphosis into
something special. Perhaps the greatest contributor to a great man, change solidified Pat s resolve,
aided him in reevaluating his priorities, and humbled his reckless demeanor. This was completed in a

bleak confines of seclusion with people much worse than him, he realized who he was and that this
was not him. If such an experience would affect more people in this manner, crime and terrible people

Imperefct Charity in Bartleby, the Scrivener Essay
One typically displays acts of charity for the love of mankind or benefit of society. However,
differentiating whether a generous deed reflects altruistic behavior or selfishness can be difficult. In
Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener, the lawyer performs charitable conduct toward Bartleby to
acquire self approval and an honorable conscience.
The lawyer employs Bartleby, a lifeless man, as a copyist for his law firm. In the beginning of his
employment, Bartleby works efficiently. However, Bartleby soon begins to deny the tasks assigned to
him with the statement, I would prefer not to (1184). While irritated at Bartleby s response, the lawyer
disregards his behavior. Typically, this type of behavior would result in ... Show more content on

This demonstrates that the lawyer provides charity exclusively for self gratifying motives and without
concern for the wellbeing of Bartleby.
As the lawyer continues to generously employ Bartleby for his own personal fulfillment, he eventually
becomes annoyed with Bartleby s repetitive rejections of his assigned tasks. The lawyer s anger
escalates to a point where he physically attacks Bartleby, and for a split second, contemplates
murdering him. Yet, the lawyer s thoughts of murder cease when he recalls the divine rule, to love one
another. Nevertheless, the lawyer goes on to explain that the main principle which drives charity is a
great safeguard to its possessor (1197). The lawyer indicates a sensibility to loving Bartleby because
of the direct benefit to himself. The lawyer s love for Bartleby does not derive itself from generosity,
but the mere self interest [that] prompt all beings to charity and philanthropy (1197). In this particular
case, the lawyer selfishly performs charity for fear that he might be imprudent enough to murder
Bartleby.
The lawyer portrays his self interest when he moves his office and abandons Bartleby, due to his
negative affect on the business. Because Bartleby continues to annoyingly dawdle around the old
office, the lawyer attempts to rid the building of Bartleby, for the lawyer is fearful of being exposed
(1201) and criticized by the public. Clearly, the lawyer speaks to Bartleby in hopes of relieving
himself from any

In Kidney failure cases urea, creatine, uric acids and electrolytes move from the blood to the dialysate
with the net effect of lowering their concentration in the blood. RBC s WBC s and plasma proteins are
too large to diffuse through the pores of the membrane. Hemodialysis patient are exposed to 120 to
130 L of water during each dialysis treatment. Small molecular weight substances can pass from the
dialysate in to patient s blood. So the purity of water used for dialysis is monitored and controlled. *
Osmosis: Osmosis is the movement of fluid from an area of lesser concentration to an area of greater
concentration of solutes. Glucose is added to the dialysate and creates an osmotic gradient across the
membrane, pulling excess fluid from the blood. * Ultra filtration: Ultra filtration results when there is
an osmotic gradient or pressure gradient across the membrane. In PD excess fluid is removed by
increasing the osmolality of the dialysate with the addition of glucose. In HD , the gradient is created
by increasing pressure in the blood compartment(positive pressure)t ore decreasing pressure in the
dialysate compartment(negative pressure). Extracellular fluid moves in to the dialysate because of the
pressure gradient. The excess fluid is removed by creating a pressure differential between the blood
and the dialysate solution.

How Rainfall Affects Stalactites
DESCRIPTION OF DATA This is a column graph representing how the rainfall affects the stalactites

stalactites length after 6 months. This will include its rainfall activity. This is an example of secondary
data which I obtained from the Princess Margaret Rose Cave website. I chose this secondary data as I

The Nervous System, By Caroline Bunker Rosdahl
The nervous system, according to Caroline Bunker Rosdahl, takes what we learn from the outside
world and stores the information selectively in our memory to refer back to and to apply to other
aspects of our lives. The nervous system also coordinates messages from the internal body systems so
that the body can readjust certain internal environments and external environments constantly. The
nervous system is set up to send messages to a certain part of the body, and the nerves are the wires
that carry out the incoming and outgoing information throughout the body. (Rosdahl, Textbook of
Basic Nursing Seventh Edition)
The main two functions of the nervous system include communication and control. A few examples of
the communication include responding to danger, pain, and also to respond to conscious decisions and
thoughts. Two types of cells within the nervous system include the neuron and the neuroglia. A
neurons specialty is responding to chemical and physical stimuli. Messages are conducted and
transferred throughout the neurons. The neuroglia support and connect the nervous tissue, but they do
not transmit any impulses. The brain and the spinal cord are included in the central nervous system.
The thalamus is what is responsible for ones moods and strong emotions, while the hypothalamus is
what is responsible for many body functions like thirst, hunger, swallowing, and also urination. There
are four cerebral lobes: frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital. The frontal lobe

Hitler s Second World War Essay
On the morning of June 22, 1941, three German army groups, consisting of over three million
soldiers, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks, attacked across the frontier into Soviet territory. The
front covered nearly two thousand miles and took the Red Army almost entirely by surprise. Adolf
Hitler titled the invasion Operation Barbarossa , and it was the critical turning point of the Second
World War. The goal of Hitler s Directive Number 21 was to destroy the Red Army s fighting
capabilities in the West, create a buffer that denied the Russian Airforce the ability to attack territory
of the German Reich, establish a general line along the Volga River to Archangel, and ultimately
destroy the Soviet Union. For many people it s not surprising that Operation Barbarossa failed and
forced Germany to fight a two front war against a coalition possessing superior resources, leading to
the eventual defeat and destruction of Hitler s Third Reich .
The Third Reich wasn t the first Empire to be defeated in the vastness of Russia, barely 120 years
earlier, Napoleon suffered a staggering defeat that led to the dissolution of the First French Empire.
With what history has taught us it seems like common knowledge that a land invasion of Russia is
doomed to failure, but in 1941 it wasn t too farfetched of an idea to think that the German Army would
be able to defeat Russia. Hitler felt that Operation Barbarossa would be successful and ultimately
launched the invasion because

About Samba Carnival
It doesn t get much more exciting and sultry than the Samba Carnival outside of taking all that
excitement and sexiness and turning it into a slot game packed with prizes and bonus games. This is
just what Play N Go did when they put together a game that offers players 5 reels and 15 paylines to
enjoy while listening to samba music and enjoying the carnival atmosphere and the brightly coloured
fireworks lighting up the night sky. The carnival is filled with the beauties of South America wearing
their skimpiest Mardi Gras outfits, with Wild Maracas that multiply all throughout the night and some
bonus bongos that offer up to 150x your bet.
There are plenty of slot games out that promise to put punters in the party mood, but very few seldom
deliver on the promise. Showing that Play N Go is in the spirit of the summer season, they are letting
the reels rock in Samba Carnival, but does this game have enough within its ranks to have your

Bruno Mars Personification
The message of the song Just the way you are by Bruno Mars is that no matter what you think of
yourself, never attempt to put yourself down and always believe that you are beautiful, Just the way

personification which he uses since occasionally, when you personify a situation, it gives the non
humanly object a more humanly meaning, and it also causes it sound more interesting and engaging.
For example, in the third stanza, Mars says, Her laugh, Her laugh/ She hates but I think it s so sexy .

brighter so he is exaggerating that he doesn t even need to glimpse at the stars as long as he has his

OSI Layers The OSI model shows how the hardware and software function together in order to enable

American Imperialism And The Laguna Pueblo History
Events that occur throughout a period of time have an interesting effect on the people, places, and
landscapes around it. In the course of history, particularly the history of North American Indigenous
Peoples, we can see how events have influenced their way of life. Since the arrival of Europeans in
North America, it is easy to notice how a singular event can cause shifts within indigenous cultures,
communities and the landscape. Although shifts within and between cultures and communities can be
good, the shifts Native Americans faced with the arrival of Europeans were usually not. For centuries
Natives struggled to preserve their lands, culture, and people as they were slowly being assimilated
into the new Euro American way of life and colonization. In this, we can not only see the works of
Euro American hegemony but also the fight of Natives to defend and protect their cultural sovereignty.
Throughout the course of this essay I am going to explore the ways in which Euro American
hegemony and the fight to preserve culture relate to the Laguna Pueblo history in the novel,
Ceremony, by Leslie Marmon Silko.
The novel, Ceremony, takes place in the early 19th century in the southwest United States. We meet
the main character Tayo who is half white and half Laguna Pueblo. His mother had an affair with a
white man and left Tayo to be raised by his aunt when he was four. When we first meet Tayo he has

power. I think Santa Anna had a pretty unique life because he was president of Mexico, he was
governor of Vera Cruz, and was high ranked in the military. I think Santa Anna did some weird things
because he had set up a ceremony to find his lost leg and had set it up on a monument for everyone to
see it and admire it. I think it was nice that his wife wanted to be buried with him before she died
because that shows that his wife really cared about him. I have learned many things about Antonio
Lopez de Santa Anna as in what he did and how he lived. He was one of the most famous Spanish
people and I enjoyed learning about

The Three Levels Of Physical Activity
Physical Activity means any physical movements that consume energy. These include daily physical
tasks such as gardening, walking, morning exercises, job related manual work and household duties.
Sport is also defined as part of physical activities like tennis, social dance, hiking, etc. According to
Miyashita, Burns, Stensel (2006), their research showed that participating in moderately or vigorously
intense physical acitivity for three times a week and an accumulation of 30 minutes per day can also
reach similar health benefits, which target on all age groups. There are three levels of physical activity.
The first one is Low intensity Physical Activities, which means simple daily activity in your daily
lifestyle such as do chores, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, people can play video games which contain active physical movements like virtual sports game
and virtual dancing game. Too tired is also one of the main reason. It is suggested that having a
healthier diet and living style like sleep early, to improve the body and get more energy to do physical
activities. If the measure does not work, people are suggested to see doctor to have a body check or
give advice. Besides, lack of motivation to do sports is also one of the main reason. According to
survey, Hong Kong people usually play sports with friends/neighbours (46.9%) and classmates
(13.2%). It os suggested that to get friends or classmates to do sports/ physical activities together
which can bring incentives. If you have no companion, you may try to join sports training courses or
physical activities to enlarge social circle and make friends with them that have similar interest with
you. You may also invite famiy members or bring dog to do physical activities

Elijah Rylson Case Study
Elijah Rylson was born October 26th, 1999. His parents were Elijah Rylson Sr. and Catherine Rylson.
Elijah s mother, Catherine had died two weeks after his birth in a car accident. Soon after his wife s
death, Elijah Sr. had gone into deep clinical depression from the passing of his wife and having to take
care of his first child all by himself. Within a short few months Elijah s Sr. s depression had turned
into alcoholism
Elijah Jr. who mainly went with Eli has very few memories of his father being sober. One time when
they both had to attend his grandfather s funeral, on his tenth birthday party, and now, on his
seventeenth birthday where he just bought his own car an old beat up minivan with money he s been
saving up for years. Eli dreamt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eli and Vivian were talking for nearly three before he had asked her out on a date. Eli had taken
Vivian out to a classy restaurant and a movie where they had their first kiss. Eventually in no time the
two were highschool sweethearts and inseparable. Right after both had graduated high school they got
matching tattoos to symbolize the strong love they have for eachother. Five years after graduation Eli
had proposed to Vivian where they had went on there first date. It was nearly ten years later when the
couple had three children, a house in the suburbs, a border collie dog and a life they had always
dreamed of.
One day while on his way to pick up his children from school he stopped at a gas station to fill up his
tank. A bus had swerved off the road and hit a pump while trying to avoid hitting a dog crossing the
street. Once the bus hit the pump instantly the gas station exploded. Eli had woken up with major deja
vu, a bright light above his head, his bare butt on a cold hospital mattress wearing a hospital gown,
and a thin blanket covering him.

Essay on Minorities in Song of Solomon
Minorities within Minorities in Song of Solomon
In a study about minorities, the groups that are differing from the dominant culture are seen as
homogeneous. But, if we look deeper into the groups, we can see that there are distinctions among the
minorities concerning lifestyle and social status. In Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon the author
provides examples in the background of the story that shows people with differential identities of the
general identity of the minority group.
The character Macon Dead and his family is represented as differing from the society they live in with
their social status. They are rich and try to live like white people. It is important for Macon Dead to

It is not for the sake of his family or to have fun, but to make everybody see his car. These rides were
a way to satisfy himself that he was indeed a successful man (31). It is impressive how Morrison
reflects Macon s desires in life with the route of the Sunday rides: ...through the rough part of town,
over the bypass downtown, and headed for the wealthy white neighborhoods (32).
The difference between Milkman and his father is that he was born rich and does not have the
ambitions of his father. But, because of the way he was raised, he cannot prevent himself from acting
different from the African American society. In fact, we see that he has only Guitar as a friend. He
likes to spend time with women in parties. The result of his wealthy life and the fact that he was raised
in a city shows us his distinction from the society when he arrives in Shalimar.
When Milkman talks with the shopkeeper Mr. Solomon, he grows up the anticipation of the people
around him. The reasons why they are offended by Milkman is clearly stated in the following passage:
They looked with hatred at the city Negro who could buy a car as if it were a bottle of whiskey
because the one he had was broken. And what s more, who had said so in front of them. He hadn t
bothered to say his name, nor ask theirs, had called them them, and would certainly despise their days,
which should have been spent harvesting their own crops, instead of waiting around

Racial Disparity In The Criminal Justice System
Instead of not only studying the analysis, evaluating the reasoning, and arguing the grave statistics of
racial disparities of age/ population and race/ethnicity, and incarceration within the walls of America s
criminal justice system, we ought to argue the facts as well as consider the evidence and approach
through ethical and logical appeals in order to understand the beliefs, values, and perspectives of the
problematic issues of the uneven justices and racially bias policies in relation to the escalating rates of
people of color being incarcerated. Racial disparity directly impacts the incarcerated and also
negatively impacts and devastatingly affects society outside the walls of the criminal justice system.
The families of the incarcerated are affected by emotional loss and possibly financial loss. The
communities are subjected to the resulting effects of the costs of a flourishing incarceration system,
and the safety of the welfare of the general public benefits unfairly.
First, I will briefly explain the demographical understanding of the differential age structure of a
population and how criminology also it plays a role in contributing to race and incarceration
disparities across the United States. The relationship between age and criminal involvement is one of
the most well established facts in criminology (Vogel). Criminology is in fact, the scientific study of
nature, extent, management, causes, control, consequences, and prevention of criminal behavior, both

Summary Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
In the novel Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne arrives at Shawshank
State Prison serving two life sentences when he is approximately thirty years old. Dufresne was
falsely accused of murdering his wife and his wife s secret lover and thrown into jail for the rest of his
life. In the novel and movie, Andy is notably very secretive and tight lipped. The jury was against
Andy s short and cold remarks in trial and explains why he was put into jail. Dufresne was easily able
to keep his secret tunnel, money, and identity hidden which sparked hope within him during a time of
great despair. Andy s secretive nature is a big component in why the jury found him distasteful leading
him into prison and escaping without anyone knowing. Luckily his best friend, Red, was the man who
could get it for you (1). He narrates the movie and admits to being a cold blooded killer making him a
suitable and honest man to tell the story. Another factor in Andy Dufresne s escape was the the warden
Samuel Norton. Red described him as the foulest hypocrite that I ever saw in a high position (224).
The characters in the movie Shawshank Redemption feed off of Andy s optimism and intelligence and
propel him to getting exactly what he needs to escape without a trace.
The judge in Dufresne s trial declared him as a remorseless man. However, evidently shown in the
novel and the movie, Dufresne was the opposite. He is quiet, composed, and patient. The dark prison
walls that would

Why Is Walter Lee Lead Character
In this essay, we will discuss the complexity of the character Walter Lee Younger, and prove that
through Walter s complexity and actions taken by him throughout the play, it makes the character
more self aware of himself. This will furthermore prove that Walter Lee Younger is the lead character
due to the various obstacles he part takes in with reference and support from quotes from the play
Raisin in the Sun.
Walter Lee in Raisin in the Sun is considered to be the most complex character due to his dramatic
actions through his decision making throughout the play. Walter is a 35 year old who lives with his
wife Ruth, son Travis, mother Lena and his sister Beneatha. He is interchangeable, ambitious, driven
man who has taken on the responsibility of being the man of the family due to the fact that his father
has passed on, making him the main provider for his son and wife, but also for his sister and mother
too. Walter is more concerned about making money than making his family happy and proud of him as
a man. Walter would sacrifice anything in order to gain respect, and his way of achieving this would
be to ensure that he is in a better financial standing that his family already is in. Walter can also be
viewed as an angry man, mainly angry at his current financial situation, and is seen to be very
argumentative with family. For example, his is seen to be arguing with his sister in the beginning of
the play saying, Who the hell told you you had to be a doctor? If you crazy bout messing round with
sick people than go be a nurse like other woman or just get married and be quiet (Hansberry, 1959:
499), this proves that Walter does not think about the future of his family but only the ... Show more

Possible Drought In California
Can you imagine living in a nauseating, vile, and disgusting manner? Well Californians can. Currently,
the state of California is in the midst of a severe drought. This drought is one of the worst droughts in
the state s recorded history. Due to this drought, more than a thousand of California s residents have
lost their water. The drought sparks a conflict for the residents. People can not bathe, use their toilets,
wash their dishes, or do anything with water. Because of the overuse of groundwater, a law is being
established in the California State Legislature that would maintain aquifer, the pumping of
groundwater, for the first time in history. In other words, residents would not be able to pump water
which is naturally available under their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If California regulates aquifer, farmers are going to be looking at buying less pickups, employing less
people, and buying less tractors (Source 1). We are tied to the groundwater 100 percent, a farmer said,
so ultimately it will have an effect on consumer prices. There s just no getting around that (Source 1).
The crippling drought is expected to cost the state $2.2 billion in 2014 and put more than 17,000 farm
workers out of a job, according to a July study partly funded by the state s department of food and
agriculture (Source 2). If aquifer is regulated, the economy is going to crash, prices of food will go up,
if prices of food go up, prices of everything will go up, farmers will go out of business, people who
work for farmers will lose their jobs, people who sell farmers equipment won t sell enough hardware
and make less money, and the government will lose billions of dollars. Also, ⅓ of the world is fed by
farmers in California and if aquifer is regulated, ⅓ of the world will not have enough food and there
might be a possibility of hunger. Californians aren t realizing this. City folks just don t understand that
they re biting the hand that feeds them (Source 1). We need groundwater for the sake of our

Miracle Baby Research Paper
For my extra credit project, I decided to shine a little light on the situation of my baby brothers birth.
He was an answer to prayers and ultimately a blessing on our family. He didn t arrive as scheduled or
when we thought he was. In addition, nothing went as planned but all I knew is that everything was
eventually going to fall into place. Moreover, there was nothing really normal about my brothers birth
or his situation, but in my eyes, that is what makes him a miracle baby to me.
Before my baby brother was born, I was the youngest in my family. My sister and I were the only
kids, we are five years apart, she was born in 1994 and I was born in 1999. We were inseparable
growing up because it was just the two of us and we only had each other. ... Show more content on

He was born as a five pound baby and we believed that god saved my mom because she was
considered to be an older mom , which means she falls in the category of being a high risk mom,
making it harder to give birth. Even though she was considered high risk, this five pound baby was
destined to be born. He was born at Moanalua Hospital and his initial due date to be born was
February 6th, 2017, but instead, he came 2 months early. Since he was born that early it put him in the
category of a preemie, which means when a baby is born before the optimal birth weeks to be born.
When my mom then gave birth the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses came to take him.
Since he was so early she couldn t hold him, he had to be taken and hooked up to machines. In order
to save his life he needed to be rushed there, it was the hardest thing to do my mom said because all
she wanted to do was hold him but she knew that his life and his breathing was more important. She
knew that if she let him go now she would have a lifetime to be able to hold him and love him
unconditionally. My mom then got housed in The Mother Baby unit where she and I resided until she
healed enough to be able to be sent

  • 2. Madame Cj Walker Biography Essay There is no royal flower strewn path to success. And if there is, I have not found it for if I have accomplished anything in life, it is because I have been willing to work hard. Madame CJ Walker In my previous writings, I ve shared my mission and purpose. I also included information regarding my professional background to amplify my values and vision. However, I would like to explore the life of one exemplary business leader Madame CJ Walker. Walker s path to success was during a tumultuous time in our American history. America is a multi cultural mosaic, because of the different cultures, ethnicities, religions, and creeds. However, African Americans and especially African American women have been marginalized in centers of power due to years of oppression. Therefore, to celebrate my heritage I decided to discuss the moral platform and accomplishments of Madame CJ Walker. Walker developed and marketed beauty and hair care products for women of color during the Jim Crow era. She is considered to be a self made millionaire that valued social ... However, to escape the abuse of her sister s husband Breedlove married and gave birth to her only child, but by the age of 20 years old, Breedlove was a widow. Bibliographical Reference In learning about Surreptitious code, specifically malware code I wanted to learn more about how to detect hidden, secret, or misleading malware on a system and how to remove or even prevent it. The article of choice was Causality reasoning about network events for detecting stealthy malware activities by Hao Zhang, Danfend Yao, Naren Ramakrishnan and Zhibin Zhang. The article was published in the Computers Security Journal, Issue 58 in 2016, pages 180 to 198. Objectives The authors of this article stated the purpose of the article was to describe methods of detecting clandestine malware using behavior and signature based methods. The authors; Introduced a network request level causal analysis for malware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... et al., 2016, p. 180). Malware creators get paid if their software is installed and runs so newer malware has to over come, evade, and fool the anti malware software that it might come up against. Thus more and more of the modern malware is being created to be installed surreptitiously, and then run clandestine. The authors attribute the malware being harder to detect because modern security solutions rely on the ability to recognize known code and signatures. This article was the summary of research conducted in order to introduce a network request level causal analysis for malware detection (Zhang, H. et al., 2016, p. 181). The major premise of the article was that they propose the use of algorithms to search and monitor triggering events. Triggering events that were not caused by a user action were referred to as vagabond requests (Zhang, H. et al., 2016, p. 183). Events that were occurring without legitimate cause by a user interaction, requests or initiation were viewed suspiciously as possible malware activities (Zhang, H. et al., 2016, p. 183). Examples given were DNS requests given without the user requesting it, or information being sent to a site without authorized initiation. The next step was to formulate the problem of triggering relation discovery (TRD) in network requests (Zhang, H. et al., 2016, p. 184). The two train of thoughts are to use rule based discovery detection and learning based discovery detection as the means to record and evaluate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The item 345 department operates within a large manufacturing facility that churns out number of other products too. Hence judging the profitability of item 345 on the basis of total cost is not practical. 8. I would like to remove allocated costs and fixed overheads and see what would be the variable cost. If this is done, you can see that the variable cost hovers around 7 FF. ( Not many of you have done this) 9. As the product manager, I would argue that my primary task is to ensure a healthy contribution (Selling Price Variable Cost). This is logical because my salesmen sell other products too and the selling overhead is an allocated cost. Moreover, the general plant overheads are also allocated costs. 10. • 5. Soft Drink Industry Case Study 1. Why, historically, has the soft drink industry been so profitable? There are several reasons why the soft drink industry has been so profitable. One reason is because these soda companies directly distribute to stores that sell their product. They do a good job in avoiding a middle man which would cost a lot more. Instead, they handle all the packaging and bottling before the soda gets to the shelf so they don t have to pay those extra costs associated with a middle man and keep all that profit. Also, carbonated drinks are cheap to produce and have a high profit margin. Every aspect of the making and bottling process is inexpensive so it makes it very easy to turn a profit. This is the same for both bottles and fountain sales. For the fountain all you have to do is install the fountain and then refill it so it is inexpensive. Another way they are profitable is because these soda companies have contracts with stores making it impossible for competitors to sell their version of CSD s in the same location. They put the contracts in place in order to avoid another company selling and taking their profit and also so the stores and restaurants won t make it competitive for them when it doesn t have to be. These soda companies also do a great job of sponsoring events in which helps promote their products which in turn drives profit. These soda companies also partner with certain locations in order to offer incentives if you buy the sodas. For example, if you buy a ticket to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sara Magee s article, High School is Hell: The TV Legacy of Beverly Hills, 90210, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (2014), argues that both television shows positively changed and impacted teen based programs during and after their air time. Magee supports this claim by providing descriptions of how teens were depicted in teen based dramas prior to the 1990 s and how these two shows introduced controversial topics that made teens think about their actions. Magee s purpose is to point out how these two shows broke the norms of traditional teen dramas that focused on the ideal teen lifestyle in order to show that Beverly Hills, 90210 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are the predecessors of controversial teen dramas of the 21st century. Page 1 of 8 THE EMIC VERSUS ETIC DILEMMA IN CROSS CULTURAL MARKETING RESEARCH: A PERSONAL CONSTRUCT THEORY PERSPECTIVE Richard E. Plank, Western Michigan University ABSTRACT Cross cultural research in marketing, particularly involving the measurement of behaviors and attitudes using methodologies which require the respondent to respond to scale type questions, is difficult as well as time and resource intensive. A major issue is the so called emic versus etic dilemma which focuses on whether or not the measure is culture bound (EMIC) or can be used across all cultures (ETIC). This paper argues, based on personal construct theory, that behavioral type measures or scales must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the construct is culture or time bound, that means that it may be inappropriate for the particular culture as well as the time period in question. In the sociology literature Hage (1972) suggested that such theoretical concepts as bureaucracy were either culture or time bound whereas the construct degree of complexity was not likely to be time or culture bound. The second issue deals with the operational definition of the theoretical concept. The question becomes do the indicators have meaning to the respondent in light of culture and time. In other words, is this how the respondent defines the construct in their own mind Just because a sentence or idea translates from one language to another does not mean that the idea is the same for both cultures, or for that matter even among different people from the same culture. Personal construct theory provides some insights into this issue as well as some methods for establishing whether or not a measure is culture free. Hofstede (1980) provides some additional interesting commentary on the general problem. He notes that ethnocentrism is present in most measures used in cross cultural research, and thus instruments should be developed cross culturally. In fact, he notes that ethnocentrism is common not only in research design and instrumentation, but also in data collection and in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Comparing Utopia And Machiavelli s The Prince Counsel to Royalty Thomas More s Utopia and Machiavelli s The Prince both concern themselves with the fundamental issues of how a society works and maintains itself. The goals behind the two works, however, differ considerably. The goal of Utopia is to illustrate the maintenance of an ideal society and the goal of The Prince is to instruct a prince, or ruler, on how to maintain his state. On the surface, these two goals may seem similar but the difference lies in the way the authors handle the subject of power. As a manual, prince treats power as a necessity, a goal, to be worked towards and maintained, almost at all costs. Utopia, a fantasy, treats power as something all individuals have; rather, they are empowered. In both Utopia and The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Machiavelli begins by offering a short defense of why he, an ordinary citizen, should know more than rulers about the art of ruling. He uses a metaphor to justify himself: a person standing on a mountain is best positioned to survey the landscape below, and a person standing below is best positioned to survey the mountain. Similarly, Machiavelli writes, to comprehend fully the nature of people, one must be a prince, and to comprehend fully the nature of princes one must be an ordinary citizen (pg.4). Implicit in this claim is the idea that the removed perspective of an observer is a more reliable guide than practical experience and a better means of improving the art of ruling. Machiavelli asserts that he is most qualified to write the art of ruling for the prince because of his previous experiences and studies. He states that a person who is not a prince is most competent to help or teach the prince, since he knows and understands the people which the prince rules, and sees the prince s job from another point of view. Since Machiavelli encompasses the outside point of view; he feels he could improve the art of ruling better than someone who occupies a higher rank than he. One discrepancy in Machiavelli s notion of the important of counsel for the Prince occurs when Machiavelli warns of flatterers, of whom courts are full because men are so self complacent in their own ... The triptych Melencolia I (1514), St. Jerome in his Study (1514) and Knight, Death and the Devil (1513) by Albrecht Dürer are allegoric copperplate engravings, known as the old master prints, which embody the three spheres of human activity: the intellectual , theological and active 1. Whereas the latter focused on the strengths of humanity through the figure of the knight , who perseveres despite the threat death and immorality pose to the mind, the former highlighted man s hamartia in this conflict: our curiosity, for a level of knowledge akin to the divine, that first caused humanity to fall in the Bible. • 14. The Is A Hot Topic Across The World Essay Equality is a hot topic across the world. Not only concerning gender, but in regard to social class, race, disability, income, and ethnic group, among others. In Canada, we like to think of ourselves as a country as progressive in that aspect. In actuality, however, this is not as necessarily true as we would like to think. After the 2011 Election, female representation in the House was at 26%. While this seems good at first, it is still below what the United Nations recommends as ideal for a shift in policy and government (Anderssen, 2015). Moreover, some political scientists estimate that it will be another century at least before Canada achieves gender parity (Anderssen, 2015). Considering this, what exactly could be done to accelerate our nation s movement toward egalitarianism for all? One such idea is that of reserving certain seats in the House of Commons for members of specific groups (women, natives, etc). Almost invariably, however, a host of problems follows along in its shadow. The mission of this essay is to analyse the positives and negatives of this approach towards equality within the government, as well as to extrapolate whether or not it should be enacted within the Canadian government using examples from overseas and across the border. Reservation Policy 101 In a nutshell, policies meant to reserve positions within the government are put into action in order to combat discrimination, ensure fairness between those of the majority as well ... Like many other clever authors, Carter gives the reader an opportunity to determine the outcome of the story before the ending is reached through her symbolism and allusions which foreshadow the ending. In doing so, she not only provides insight into what will happen next but also further develops each of the characters through these complex symbols that she incorporates throughout the story. Carter first alludes to the outcome of the story by introducing the ruby choker that the Marquis gave as a wedding gift within the first few pages of the narrative. She describes it as, a choker of rubies, two inches wide, like an extraordinarily precious slit throat (6). The reader can infer a considerable amount from this one simple ... This illustrates the theme of innocence versus violence, which is seen all throughout the story. The explicit revelation of the necklace prefiguring her end shows that the symbolism that Carter incorporated in the story begins subtler and becomes more straightforward towards the end. California Case Essay DuPont1 Dylan DuPont 10/22/16 CJA 356 criminal evidence Week 4 final paper Horton vs. California On June 4th, 1990, Terry Brice Horton vs. California was a United States Supreme Court case in which the Court held 7 2 that the Fourth Amendment does not prohibit warrantless seizure of evidence, which is granted due to the plain view doctrine. The discovery of the evidence does not have to be inadvertent, although that is a characteristic of most legitimate plain view seizures. The victim was Erwin Wallaker he was robbed of jewelry and cash, in his own garage by two men, one armed with a machine gun and one with a stun gun. Wallaker heard enough of the robber s conversation to identify Horton s voice. His identification was partially corroborated by a witness who saw the robbers leaving the scene and by evidence that Horton had attended a coin show. Sergeant LaRault determined there was enough evidence to search Horton s home, and obtained a warrant to do so. His affidavit for the search warrant described both the weapons and the proceeds of the robbery, but the warrant only granted permission to look for the stolen property. While searching Horton s house, Sergeant LaRault did not find the property, but he did find an Uzi machine gun, a .38 caliber revolver, two stun guns, and a handcuff key, along with other items linking Horton to the crime. The evidence was admitted into the trial, and Horton was found guilty of armed robbery. Horton Argued that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, the designation for students to report suspicious behaviour is reasonable. The policy prompts the concern of unknown people and objects through its representation of danger. On the contrary, students do not know every individual on the campus and it is unjustified to have a policy implying that every unknown person can act suspiciously. The policy suggests students should stray from their daily routine when they feel as if they are in danger. Students are encouraged to travel in groups as being alone increases vulnerability. Through representation, the university does not protect a vulnerable student. There are many different opinions and theories about it. Although there are many accounts of this story, they are all pretty similar in telling the same story. The argument that Foust presents is The reason I believe they are aliens is their green skin and the language they spoke was all unknown and mysterious to us humans. Also, the place filled with perpetual twilight is not a place that is on Earth (Foust n.p.). Even though I do not agree with this theory, it is sensible as to why one would believe this. Without being presented with the facts of the matter, it could seem as if there would be no other explanation other than aliens. However, the green skin is easily explained by illness. The language the children might have seemed strange to the villagers of woolpit, but they could have just been speaking Dutch, which is the language that most Flemish people speak. Since the children were Flemish fleeing from their hometown, they most likely used underground passages and even maybe sewer holes, it is possible the children could have mistaken the places they traveled as being in perpetual twilight. In Foust s essay Green Children Are Aliens , he presents the logical fallacy, Hasty Generalization, which means the author jumps to conclusions based on little evidence. This logical fallacy is used when Foust says The reason I believe they are aliens is their green skin and the language they spoke was all unknown and mysterious to us humans. Foust provides little evidence to prove his theory that the children were aliens, the only evidence he provides is they had green skin and spoke a language the villagers could not understand. There are so many possibilities of what the green skin could have been caused by such as: arsenic poisoning, hypochromic anemia, malnourishment, etc. Just because they had green skin does not mean they were aliens. Also, the language the children spoke may have been just strange to the villagers of Woolpit, chances are they were speaking Dutch. Dutch is the common ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The title is ironic because there is nothing glorious about war or the way it ended Pat Tillman s beautiful life. The author s style can best be characterized by his challenging, precise diction and his ability to fluently intervene pertinent quotes and facts that further persuade the reader toward his cause. Yet, the lawyer s thoughts of murder cease when he recalls the divine rule, to love one another. The Nervous System, By Caroline Bunker Rosdahl The nervous system, according to Caroline Bunker Rosdahl, takes what we learn from the outside world and stores the information selectively in our memory to refer back to and to apply to other aspects of our lives. The nervous system also coordinates messages from the internal body systems so that the body can readjust certain internal environments and external environments constantly. The nervous system is set up to send messages to a certain part of the body, and the nerves are the wires that carry out the incoming and outgoing information throughout the body. (Rosdahl, Textbook of Basic Nursing Seventh Edition) The main two functions of the nervous system include communication and control. A few examples of the communication include responding to danger, pain, and also to respond to conscious decisions and thoughts. Two types of cells within the nervous system include the neuron and the neuroglia. A neurons specialty is responding to chemical and physical stimuli. Messages are conducted and transferred throughout the neurons. The neuroglia support and connect the nervous tissue, but they do not transmit any impulses. The brain and the spinal cord are included in the central nervous system. Hitler s Second World War Essay On the morning of June 22, 1941, three German army groups, consisting of over three million soldiers, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks, attacked across the frontier into Soviet territory. Adolf Hitler titled the invasion Operation Barbarossa , and it was the critical turning point of the Second World War. The goal of Hitler s Directive Number 21 was to destroy the Red Army s fighting capabilities in the West, create a buffer that denied the Russian Airforce the ability to attack territory of the German Reich, establish a general line along the Volga River to Archangel, and ultimately destroy the Soviet Union. This proves the message because his girlfriend keeps asking him throughout the song if she is extremely pretty or if she looks okay, but Bruno Mars himself, says that she is perfect no matter what and she honestly needs to start believing that she is beautiful and needs to stop putting herself down and to believe in ... • 39. 7 Layers Of The OSI Model OSI Layers The OSI model shows how the hardware and software function together in order to enable communication between the computers. The OSI model is basically a framework of how the device operate on the network. Assume that user A sends data to user B through internet, the data has to travel the network to reach user B computer. During the data transfer, the data has to navigate through many intermediate nodes. To ensure the data transfer from user A to user B correctly and securely, so we need protocols to guide these data. These group of protocols are called communication model. OSI model is one of the communication model. Open System Interconnection (OSI) is made up of 7 layers, each layer has their own unique functions and protocols. Control is passed from one layer to another layer, start at application layer which is layer 7 to physical layer which is layer 1. • 40. American Imperialism And The Laguna Pueblo History Events that occur throughout a period of time have an interesting effect on the people, places, and landscapes around it. In the course of history, particularly the history of North American Indigenous Peoples, we can see how events have influenced their way of life. Since the arrival of Europeans in North America, it is easy to notice how a singular event can cause shifts within indigenous cultures, communities and the landscape. Although shifts within and between cultures and communities can be good, the shifts Native Americans faced with the arrival of Europeans were usually not. For centuries Natives struggled to preserve their lands, culture, and people as they were slowly being assimilated into the new Euro American way of life and colonization. In this, we can not only see the works of Euro American hegemony but also the fight of Natives to defend and protect their cultural sovereignty. Throughout the course of this essay I am going to explore the ways in which Euro American hegemony and the fight to preserve culture relate to the Laguna Pueblo history in the novel, Ceremony, by Leslie Marmon Silko. The novel, Ceremony, takes place in the early 19th century in the southwest United States. We meet the main character Tayo who is half white and half Laguna Pueblo. His mother had an affair with a white man and left Tayo to be raised by his aunt when he was four. When we first meet Tayo he has recently returned to the reservation after World War II and is ... I think Santa Anna was a pretty brave man because he went through all of those battles for his country, had lost his leg, and was imprisoned in Sisal, Yucatan. I also think Santa Anna wanted way too much power because he kept trying to take over the military and the country. Also I think he deserved to be banned from the country for ten years because he was trying to get to much power. I think Santa Anna had a pretty unique life because he was president of Mexico, he was governor of Vera Cruz, and was high ranked in the military. I think Santa Anna did some weird things because he had set up a ceremony to find his lost leg and had set it up on a monument for everyone to see it and admire it. I think it was nice that his wife wanted to be buried with him before she died because that shows that his wife really cared about him. Essay on Minorities in Song of Solomon Minorities within Minorities in Song of Solomon In a study about minorities, the groups that are differing from the dominant culture are seen as homogeneous. But, if we look deeper into the groups, we can see that there are distinctions among the minorities concerning lifestyle and social status. In Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon the author provides examples in the background of the story that shows people with differential identities of the general identity of the minority group. The character Macon Dead and his family is represented as differing from the society they live in with their social status. They are rich and try to live like white people. These rides were a way to satisfy himself that he was indeed a successful man (31). It is impressive how Morrison reflects Macon s desires in life with the route of the Sunday rides: ...through the rough part of town, over the bypass downtown, and headed for the wealthy white neighborhoods (32). The difference between Milkman and his father is that he was born rich and does not have the ambitions of his father. But, because of the way he was raised, he cannot prevent himself from acting different from the African American society. In fact, we see that he has only Guitar as a friend. He likes to spend time with women in parties. The result of his wealthy life and the fact that he was raised in a city shows us his distinction from the society when he arrives in Shalimar. When Milkman talks with the shopkeeper Mr. Solomon, he grows up the anticipation of the people around him. The reasons why they are offended by Milkman is clearly stated in the following passage: They looked with hatred at the city Negro who could buy a car as if it were a bottle of whiskey because the one he had was broken. And what s more, who had said so in front of them. He hadn t bothered to say his name, nor ask theirs, had called them them, and would certainly despise their days, which should have been spent harvesting their own crops, instead of waiting around ... • 45. Racial Disparity In The Criminal Justice System Instead of not only studying the analysis, evaluating the reasoning, and arguing the grave statistics of racial disparities of age/ population and race/ethnicity, and incarceration within the walls of America s criminal justice system, we ought to argue the facts as well as consider the evidence and approach through ethical and logical appeals in order to understand the beliefs, values, and perspectives of the problematic issues of the uneven justices and racially bias policies in relation to the escalating rates of people of color being incarcerated. Racial disparity directly impacts the incarcerated and also negatively impacts and devastatingly affects society outside the walls of the criminal justice system. The families of the incarcerated are affected by emotional loss and possibly financial loss. The communities are subjected to the resulting effects of the costs of a flourishing incarceration system, and the safety of the welfare of the general public benefits unfairly. First, I will briefly explain the demographical understanding of the differential age structure of a population and how criminology also it plays a role in contributing to race and incarceration disparities across the United States. The relationship between age and criminal involvement is one of the most well established facts in criminology (Vogel). • 46. Summary Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption In the novel Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne arrives at Shawshank State Prison serving two life sentences when he is approximately thirty years old. Dufresne was falsely accused of murdering his wife and his wife s secret lover and thrown into jail for the rest of his life. In the novel and movie, Andy is notably very secretive and tight lipped. The jury was against Andy s short and cold remarks in trial and explains why he was put into jail. Dufresne was easily able to keep his secret tunnel, money, and identity hidden which sparked hope within him during a time of great despair. Andy s secretive nature is a big component in why the jury found him distasteful leading him into prison and escaping without anyone knowing. Luckily his best friend, Red, was the man who could get it for you (1). He narrates the movie and admits to being a cold blooded killer making him a suitable and honest man to tell the story. Another factor in Andy Dufresne s escape was the the warden Samuel Norton. Red described him as the foulest hypocrite that I ever saw in a high position (224). The characters in the movie Shawshank Redemption feed off of Andy s optimism and intelligence and propel him to getting exactly what he needs to escape without a trace. The judge in Dufresne s trial declared him as a remorseless man. However, evidently shown in the novel and the movie, Dufresne was the opposite. He is quiet, composed, and patient. • 47. Why Is Walter Lee Lead Character In this essay, we will discuss the complexity of the character Walter Lee Younger, and prove that through Walter s complexity and actions taken by him throughout the play, it makes the character more self aware of himself. This will furthermore prove that Walter Lee Younger is the lead character due to the various obstacles he part takes in with reference and support from quotes from the play Raisin in the Sun. Walter Lee in Raisin in the Sun is considered to be the most complex character due to his dramatic actions through his decision making throughout the play. Walter is a 35 year old who lives with his wife Ruth, son Travis, mother Lena and his sister Beneatha. He is interchangeable, ambitious, driven man who has taken on the responsibility of being the man of the family due to the fact that his father has passed on, making him the main provider for his son and wife, but also for his sister and mother too. Walter is more concerned about making money than making his family happy and proud of him as a man. Walter would sacrifice anything in order to gain respect, and his way of achieving this would be to ensure that he is in a better financial standing that his family already is in. Walter can also be viewed as an angry man, mainly angry at his current financial situation, and is seen to be very argumentative with family. For example, his is seen to be arguing with his sister in the beginning of the play saying, Who the hell told you you had to be a doctor? If you crazy bout messing round with sick people than go be a nurse like other woman or just get married and be quiet (Hansberry, 1959: 499), this proves that Walter does not think about the future of his family but only the ... The crippling drought is expected to cost the state $2.2 billion in 2014 and put more than 17,000 farm workers out of a job, according to a July study partly funded by the state s department of food and agriculture (Source 2).
