Chameleon Effect Lab Report
A water tornado is in a flask, and the water... It s purple. No, it s turquoise. Green? Brown? It s orange
now.
How?
These scientists must be from Frankenstein s lab.
Of course these demonstrators weren t from Frankenstein s lab, but in fourth grade I thought they
were. Only when I took AP Chemistry did I learn that this chameleon effect was just a simple redox
reaction.
As a child, I loved watching the colors change, but as I got older, I yearned to understand why they
changed. This mindset and the interactive experiments I conducted immersed me in the wonders of
chemistry.
At Northwestern s Weinberg College of Arts Sciences, I would surround myself with people who
share my passion, eager to explore the depths of chemical reactions.

Arguments Against Victimization
There were examinations made by theorists that suggest some people are, in fact, victim prone and
argue that, similar to the concept of born criminals , there are born victims (Moriarty, 2003). Born
victims are individuals who seem to be self destructive and studies have proclaimed that they are
responsible, to some degree, for their own victimization. There is a continuous reciprocal action
between predators and victims (Moriarty, 2003). There are two main ways precipitative behavior can
come about, this being both actively and passively. In active precipitation, explained by Wolfgang, it
states that the victim is behaving in a threatening, violent, almost intolerable, manner with the
offender, which can have the victim involve themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for an individual to fully protect themselves against victimization, they would need to
seriously alter their whole life. To some degree, everyone in society has no choice but to involve
themselves in risky behavior (Moriarty, 2003). There are situations that are completely out of one s
control, and circumstances that can not be changed. For instance, some people could live in a higher
crime rate neighborhood, so no matter what, stepping outside of the confines of their home is a risk.
But it is a risk worth taking because people need to run errands, go out to eat, go to work, etc. They
can not be responsible if they are a victim of crime by choosing to not live in fear. Blaming the victim,
even slightly, then diminishes full responsibility for the offender. The concept of victim precipitation
provides a cultural framework which offenders can use to rationalize their behavior (Moriarty, 2003,
p. 32). To better put this into perspective, in 2016, the Stanford University swimmer, Brock Turner,
was charged with sexual assault. After serving only three months, he was given an earlier release date.
Arguments, in this case, stated that the woman should have never been as intoxicated as she was. The
real argument here should have been, Mr. Turner never laying a hand on her in any way (Shariff
Wiseman, 2016). Offenders should almost always take full responsibility for immersion in crime,
because when victim blaming occurs, it impacts the victim emotionally, mentally, and psychologically.
It even has the possibility of the punishment for the offender become less severe. To add on, the
creation of victim blaming creates culturally legitimate victims , which is incredibly harmful to those

Synthesis And Characterization Of Aspirin
Organic Chemistry 322 Lab Report
Part I. Synthesis and Characterization of Aspirin
Part II. Extraction of Natural Products
Name: Bianca Davis
Instructor: Dr. Russell
Date Submitted: December 8, 2014 Introduction Aspirin is a substance known as acetylsalicylic acid.
It is used mainly as an over the counter drug used to relieve inflammation, pain, and fever. Its natural
form is salicylic acid. This synthesis process requires the acetylation of salicylic acid with acetic
anhydride. The purpose of this lab is to synthesize and purify aspirin. We also characterized the aspirin
via melting point, iron (III) chloride test, pH test, and thin layer chromatography. The synthesized
aspirin successfully produced a 65.38% yield.

of acetic anhydride is combined to a 125mL Erlenmeyer flask. Eight drops of concentrated H2SO4
was added to the Erlenmeyer flask that housed the salicylic acid and acetic anhydride. The contents
were then gently swirled and transported to the hot water bath created earlier. The heat from the water
bath and occasional mixing of the contents quickly dissolved the powder contents. The flask was then
removed and combined with 40mL of cold distilled water. The flask was then placed into an ice bath
to create a slush like substance. A vacuum filtration system was assembled and the slush was washed
three times with distilled water. The product was left to dry in lab drawer for seven

The Debate On Abortion And Abortion
Abortion. This word leaves most people feeling uneasy after just saying it out loud. The discussion of
abortion is continuously left open ended with millions of opinions, arguments, and questions.
Abortions occur every single day leaving potential fathers devastated or thrilled, leaving friends and
families broken and distraught or in contrast, proud. More importantly, leaving the potential mother
uncertain and even destroyed. But with abortion in mind, what is considered wrong and what is
considered right? What is moral and what is immoral? Is all faith in humanity questioned at the sole
argument of either aborting or not aborting an unborn child? Moreover, who is granted the superior
authority on deciding what is morally correct or incorrect this day and age. As I said before,
bottomless questions and vast accusations tend to be the fuel for this fire. It is as if society is waiting
for the perfect, yet, moderate argument on abortion, tying up all of the loose ends and meeting
somewhere in between what is right and what is wrong when considering abortion rights. Is there even
a common ground of understanding when debating the existence of another human? The endless and
twisted argument continues to linger on, although Judith Jarvis Thomson s Defense of Abortion
communicated insightful views which in fact influenced my very own ideas on the argument of
abortion. As I was reading Thomson s, Defense on Abortion I found myself unsure and often
questioning the side she

Analysis Of The Art Of War By Sun Tzu
Book Analysis: The Art of War by Sun Tzu Ancient Chinese scholar Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War
more than 2000 years earlier, probably for kings, generals and solders of his time. However, this book
is still relevant in this high tech modern world. It has still a powerful energy to work as a useful
guidance for modern times. The Art of War is actually about struggles and confrontation we all go
through in our daily lives. We as all face same kinds of dilemmas in our hearts and minds when it
comes to compete with real life challenges. Though the book was compiled as a military advice in
ancient times, it has potential to function as practical guide in all facets of life even today. This book is
guide for victory in life, but it is also about the art of war. At the same time, it is all about self
awareness. It says know the enemy and know yourself; in in hundred battles you will never be in peril
. This is how Sun Tzu emphasises the importance of knowing about yourself. To be able to be a
winner in the challenges of life it is important to know your strengths and weakness. If you are know
yourself very well you should not worry about anything. Sun Tzu has made it very clear that half
battle is won when you have a better understanding of yourself. However, if you neither know about
yourself nor about your enemy, it means you are at a very high risk every time you enter a
competition. Therefore, to be successful in life, one must be aware about both himself and the
opposing

Stoic s Aphorism
Stoic s aphorism seem to get its best expression in Mrs. Thatcher s philanthropic adage one of us ness
. Animals, the beautiful creatures of God in stoic and later especially in Porphyry s sense need to be
treated as rational. Stoic asks for justice to all rational beings but it seems to me that there is no
relevant proclaim from their side which talks in favour of the animal s justice. They claim about the
rationality of animals but do not confer a right like the human that later Porphyry wonderfully
introduced in his writing On Abstinence From Animal Food. Aristotle s successor Theophratus
believes that both animals and humans are made of the same tissues and like human, animals too has
the same way of perception, reasoning and appetites.

American Physical Therapy Association Case Study
Question 1: Structure of the APTA The structure of the American Physical Therapy Association
(APTA) consists of 3 levels, that being local, state, and national.2 This three tiered approach helps to
ensure that both members of the public and the APTA are all served. This structure also allows for the
information of the APTA to be made more accessible to members by allowing members to attend
meetings locally instead of only having the option of a nationally centered location.2 It is important
for students and practicing Physical Therapists to get involved with the APTA. Being a member of the
APTA helps to show professionalism through devotion towards the field. It also helps to keep
practicing Physical Therapists update on current legislative, ethical, licensing, and practicing
standards. Being a member is a good way for Physical Therapists to participate in continuing
education as well as with educational seminars, courses, and certifications constantly being performed.
In addition to this, by getting involved in events that the APTA is conducting, especially local ones, it
will help you as a Physical Therapist to promote the field positively and spread awareness in the

Isolation In Sherwood Anderson s Adventure
In Sherwood Andersons Adventure explores the isolation of Alice Hindman through her overly
romanticized idea of love with Ned Currie. Alice devotes herself so completely to Ned Currie making
his love her one and only truth. Once Ned physically and emotionally fades out of Alice s life she
clings onto the possibility of his return. Alice becomes so absorbed in the possibility of Ned that she
cannot break out of the bubble she has created for her fantasy life. Alice s obsession with her fantasy
involving Ned coming to life sparks the creation of her isolation. Through her obsession with Ned,
and his connections to her youth and purity, Alice is unable to escape her isolated state. After Alice
and Ned have sex Alice believes that her body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alice runs through the rain because She thought that the rain would have some creative and wonderful
effect on her body. Not for years had she felt so full of youth and courage. She wanted to leap and run,
to cry out, to find some other lonely human and embrace him. (1435). In this section Alice finally
frees herself from her dependence on her ideas of youth and love. She imagines that the rain will allow
her to re experience her youth, and for a moment she does. Alice feels free and young, but still lonely.
Alice runs into an elderly man while she is on her naked escapade in the rain, and craves a connection
to him. Alice begins to ask him to wait for her. His responder to her is What? What say? (1435). The
inability for the man to hear Alice furthers her isolation. The one being that is out in the rain Alice
cannot communicate with. Alice becomes defeated by her adventure. In many ways the man becomes
a projection of Alice s future. He was the only other person out in the rain, and he was unable to free
Alice from her isolation. At the same time Alice could not free him of his own isolation. She and the
man are both alone, and although they are close enough to have a conversation, they are unable to.
This moment appears to capture Alice s belief that she will never be able to find a cure to her

Review Of Michael Hammer s Reengineering At Net Speed ...
Introduction This paper is a summary of research on scholarly articles by Michael Hammer, Ph.D. The
three articles are Reengineering at Net Speed , The New Business Agenda and Putting Six Sigma in
Perspective . Dr. Hammer earned his bachelors, masters and Ph.D. in computer science from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was professor in the computer science department at MIT
and a lecturer in the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is best known for his work in business
process engineering (https://en.wikipedia.org). Reengineering At Net Speed Fasten your seat belt; it ll
be quite a ride , is how Dr. Michael Hammer ended his 1999 article in InformationWeek titled,
Reengineering at Net Speed . The article focuses on the possibilities the internet will have on business
processes and how process reengineering is necessary in net age. Dr. Hammer argues that
reengineering is necessary with the internet because automating a mess yields an automated mess . He
argues that a poorly designed process in a traditional business environment will be a poor designed
process on the internet as well. He further states that processes will be need to implemented and
designed to support the internet model of business. The internet model of business has high customer
value access. Customers are able to place orders and check on shipments. Hammer also states the
internet has no boundaries. Companies are able to business anywhere in the world due to ubiquity of

The Neuman System Model And Its Impact On Patients And...
Betty Neuman is a renowned nursing theorist who developed the Neuman System Model. This model
emphasizes stress and the impact it can have on patients and nursing care. Key concepts of this theory
include preventions, stressors, and lines of defense. Neuman also addresses the metaparadigms of
nursing, health, human being, and environment in relation to her model. The Neuman System Model
is recognized by nurses across the globe, and a Neuman System Practice Center has been established
to help develop her theory (Gigliotti, 2012, p. 298). This theory can be utilized in any nursing care and
is inspiration for other nursing theorists.
The Neuman System Model is an open system that responds to stressors in the internal, external, and
created environments (Masters, 2015). The model can be applied to physiological, psychological,
sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual nursing care making it very diverse in applicability. The
Neuman System Model discusses many concepts. One major concept is the idea of stressors and their
affects on the patient system. Neuman defines stressors as any phenomenon that might penetrate both
the flexible and normal lines of defense, resulting in a positive or negative outcome (Masters, 2015).
Types of stressors include intrapersonal, interpersonal, and extrapersonal. Intrapersonal stressors are
those that occur within the client system boundary and correlate with the internal environment
(Masters, 2015). Interpersonal stressors are those that

Dark Roses Short Story
Dark Roses
Grey skies, grey clouds, it was raining, and it was quiet in my room. Slow soft music played while I
lay on the bed daydreaming. The whole house was asleep. It was 7:34 AM, I always wondered, how
my new school is gonna be like, I moved from Wisconsin to L.A in the summer, and I settled in, ready
for this school.
I slowly doze off while listening to the music, it was peaceful. But I couldn t bare sleeping again, I
stood up, making a huge creak sound from my bed. My eyes were droopy, and I slowly walked to my
door to go to the bathroom.
I didn t remember what I did in the bathroom, probably dozing off again. But I was in the kitchen
looking for some food to eat. I heard footsteps coming to the kitchen and I looked behind me to ...

*RING RING!* My alarm screamed at me while I jumped off my bed falling on my back making a
huge thump. I groaned and scratched my head. I slowly stood up and looked at the time. The time

Shoot! It s almost time to leave! I yelled at myself. I quickly went into my closet, throwing all my
clothes around, then I found pair of leggings and a plain t shirt, I quickly changed, then I ran to the
bathroom to brush my teeth and all. Inside I was panicking because this was my first day of school. I
finished using the bathroom and ran down the stairs while twirling my hair up and tie it to a ponytail,
then into the kitchen to find a fruit to eat.
I picked up a apple from the fruit bowl and bit into it. I checked the time again, and it was 6:58 AM, I
panicked quickly then grabbed my stuff, while running to the door. I m glad no one heard me, I don t
want to bother them, but when i m at the door, I see there were no cars yet. I guessed everyone was
already at school ready, so I ran out the house and ran on the sidewalk.
I saw there were some people at the school already so of course I ran even faster, but my size just
slowed me down. Finally after a few minutes, I was in front of the school, looked peaceful, but it wasn

Essay on Aphra Behn s Play Oronooko
Oronooko is an excellent play by Aphra Behn that discusses a large array of wonderful themes. The
story s main character depicts a person of power. He was in a sense eventually forced to empathize
with those he unintentionally caused a great deal of harm to. Oronooko a man of royalty participated
in the selling of African slaves. An African himself saw nothing wrong in doing this; this was an
accepted part of his culture. He befriended the British and lived a life envied by those he persecuted.
It s ironic how his very friends (the British) became those people he learned to hate; they became his
masters. The story has a nice turn of tales. A man once full of power, now forced to interpret life from
the other end of the life cycle. Behn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Restoration for Oronooko was a first hand experience unavoidable and inevitable. The play is again
excellent in exposing us to life s inescapable karma, a clear and evident themes throughout the novel.
Through brilliant language and the usage of symbolism, Bhen allows us to see what was happening to
Oronooko in the most memorable scene. He had learned to take tobacco, and when he was assured he
should die, he desired they would give him a pipe in his mouth....The executor came and first cut off
his members and threw them in the fire.
Page 3
....They cut his ears and his nose and burned them; he still smoked on, as if nothing touched him. This
is a great example of visualization through the text, it is quite easy to picture the scene here taking
place in great detail. Then they hacked off one of his arms, his head sunk, and his pipe dropped, and
he gave up the ghost.... (Behn 2193) This is a clear example of symbolism in the novel. Those well
versed in the Bible will noticed that this is parallel to how Christ was murdered. He never spoke a
word while he was being tortured, his people persecuted him and in the end he gave up the GHOST .
George Etherege s comedy The Man of Mode took a slightly different approach to depicting the
restoration period. He used characters that were both unusual as well as witty. The Character Harriet

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total
and per capital number in the world. 22% of Americans own one or more guns (35% of men and 12%
of women). America s pervasive gun culture stems in part from its colonial history, revolutionary
roots, frontier expansion, and the Second Amendment, which states: A well regulated militia, being
necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed. Proponents of more gun control laws state that the Second Amendment was intended for
militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a
majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions. Pros:High capacity
magazines should be banned because they too often turn murder into mass murder. A Mother Jones
investigation found that high capacity magazines were used in at least 50% of the 62 mass shootings
between 1982 and 2012. [7] When high capacity magazines were used in mass shootings, the death
rate rose 63% and the injury rate rose 156%. David H. Chipman, Senior Vice President of Public
Safety for Shot spotter and former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)

Abraham Lincoln s Beliefs
Some have said that Abraham Lincoln s beliefs are a mystery. He himself has never proclaimed his
beliefs but a lot can be determined by his actions and words. Through observation, there have been
quite a lot of conclusions to his faith. Some conclusions are: skepticism, deism, Christianity, theism,
fatalism, and even atheism. It s an on going debate for the conclusion to his faith although we won t be
able to ever prove exactly what his beliefs were since he never made a profession, there are many facts
leading to his belief in a personal savior.
Among the conclusions, skepticism is one of many. In his earlier years, he was a known skeptic and he
is often remembered as a skeptic because of his earlier quotes (George). Despite his firm belief in
God, proved by the references to God and the Bible in the Second Inaugural Address, some say that he
was just trying to please the audience even though what he said is not what the people wanted to hear
(Calhoun and Morel). Lincoln may have been a skeptic at a young age, but he showed reliance on God
later in life. James Smith said that he was inclined to believe that Lincoln was a skeptic but unlike
most skeptics, he was a constant reader of the Bible (Lind, 51). He showed no skepticism as the
president, he only showed his reliance on God and his unfailing word.
Another belief was that Lincoln was a deist. Possibly because he never made a profession of faith and
he never officially joined a church but this is not a sound argument.

Genetically Modified Foods And Its Effects On The Human...
Abstract
Genetically Modified Foods are the newly developed epidemic of the 21st century. Through a
multitude of hurdled obstacles of putting G.M.O s into production, they are said to have aided world
hunger, production costs, and the economy. However, the question of the level of safety comes into
play when analyzing the long term and short term effects on the human body and environment.
Although the United States has frugal laws regarding the labeling and production of G.M.O s, a
majority of other countries forbid the extensive production and require accurate labeling. Dating back
to the beginning of the creation of the altercation of genes, many Americans supported the idea of
disproving Thomas Malthus s theory of population regarding food shortage. G.M.O s are utilized
across the nation by a multitude of American families to date. Although, as people begin to recognize
the unverified, seamless effects of Genetically Modified Foods and due to a rise in health concern,
many Americans and foreign nations are beginning to make the transition to a healthier lifestyle;

The Beatitudes In Jesus sermon On The Mount In Matthew 5
Conforming to the world brings shame, but standing with the righteous brings eternal glory. In Jesus
Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5, He gives the world a path to follow, an outline of how to
live commonly known as the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are puzzling to us. They are difficult to put
together rationally and find the logic in them. God s plans for our world and for our lives are not
always logical to us, but He is God and does things for reasons we cannot understand. We can see
through the Beatitudes and Beyond the Gates of Splendor that the Peacemaker is the Child of God
who can rejoice when persecuted for righteousness sake. This type of persecution shows that the
Peacemaker has been recognized as someone who has not conformed to the pattern of this world, and
has lived a life worthy of their call of Christ Jesus which then allows them to enter the Kingdom of
Heaven and be called children of God.
One of the biggest contradictions we seem to be faced with in the Beatitudes is the eighth and final
one. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against
you because of me. Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way
they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matthew 5:10). It does not seem to be logical to be
blessed when evil is against you. I struggle with the

Related To The Golden Ratio
This short report and presentation related to the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio has interested
mathematicians for a long time. The Golden Ratio is a special number that is defined mathematically
from
which produces 1.618033989..., commonly used as the approximation 1.618. There is interesting fact
that digits just keep on going to infinity, with no pattern. Mathematically, the Golden Ratio is tends to
be an irrational number.
Two numbers tend to be golden if the ratio of their sum to the bigger number is equal as the larger to
the smaller number. In other words, this relationship could be expressed with the following equation:
In the case of a rectangle, if k is the length of the longer sides, whereas m is the length of the shorter
sides, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically, this number can be found in the architecture of many ancient buildings such as the
Parthenon and the Great Pyramids. Some investigations of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon,
established that majority of its proportions mostly are close to the golden ratio. It could be concluded
that architects knew the golden ratio, that is why classical buildings and their elements are
proportioned according to the golden ratio. The design of the Parthenon was created according to the
Golden ratio, as illustrated in the picture 1. Another famous example of usage the Golden ratio in
architecture is the Acropolis of Athens. The dimensions of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is
approximately 4,600 years old, are also based on the Golden Ratio. When it comes to art, there are
several illustrations, which can prove that the Golden ratio is used in the arts as well. For instance,
Leonardo da Vinci s paintings in De Divina Proportione (On the Divine Proportion) and Mona Lisa
employ the Golden ratio in their geometric equivalents. Also Mondrian used the Golden number in his
masterpiece as well as Salvador Dali in his The Sacrament of the Last

Lucille Clifton Grandma We Are Poetry Analysis
Great pieces of literature allow for someone to relate to the piece. As I read grandma, we are poets by
Lucille Clifton I could relate. I did not read it as if I related to autism, but as I remember all the words
that define who were are by society s standards. In Clifton s poem emotion could be felt when
portraying those with autism and I was determined to make a similar piece.
For my piece I began to define beauty based on society s definition rather than how Clifton defines
autism by the dictionary definition. I wanted there to be two different voices heard in my poem. The
first voice was that of myself as I reminisce on what beauty felt like as I grew up. The other voice is
society and all the ideas that make someone beautiful. I decided to use the word beauty because I have
been talking to my sister lately and a boy told her she was not pretty enough to be his girlfriend. I
realized writing a poem was a good way to portray to her that no matter what anyone says she is
always going to be beautiful. I was able to write my own experience because there is no better way to
explain something than through one s own examples. This advice coming from an older sister is ...

In my own piece I decided to use my own experience from when I was younger to explain to my little
sister that no matter what society says she is beautiful the way she is. As I read the third stanza in
Clifton s work she used the word imagined multiple times to portray what a kid with autism is feeling
or doing as they see people or hear words. I felt that the word change was a great way to portray raw
emotion in my piece. I used the dashes before the word to exaggerate the change that society was
yelling in my head. Finally, the last change comes, but it is modified to changed. I used the word
changed to evoke emotion because I had finally given into society and what society sketched as

Should 16 And 16 Year Olds Be Allowed To Vote
In the article, Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the polls , by Annys Shin,
it is said that Ben Miller a 16 year old boy walked into the toll booth at Takoma Park Community
Center and was planned to do something about the fact that 16 year olds cannot vote in the election.
This brings up an interesting argument of whether or not 16 and 17 year olds should be allowed to
vote. People will argue that 16 and 17 year olds do not know what they are doing or just have a lack of
interest and that is a reason why some say no to letting them vote but others say that it could mean the
difference in the election. 16 and 17 year olds should be allowed to vote because once they start voting

Psychology Class From High School Essay
When I started this class this pass September I had a little knowledge of psychology. In my junior year
of high school I took Psychology as an elective class. I really enjoy it alot, it amaze me how much
there was to know about our brains. This September I came with the feeling that this psychology class
was going to be way different from my psychology class from high school. And that my knowledge
from my class before wasn t going to be useful at all. But I was wrong, this class has actually been
better than my other class. Because it has help dust off some of the concepted that I had learn before.
But it has also made gain more knowledge about psychology that I didn t knew before. For example
the next concepts are the ones that had impacted me the most: critical thinking and the eight essential,
implicit learning, short term and long term memories. I chose these concept because they have not
only taught me more about psychology, but they have made a big impact on me.
Critical thinking was the first concept that I was introduce too when I started the course back in
September. I hardly remember it from my pass psychology class so it was kind of new to me when I
first started to learning about it. I thinking that why I chose it as one of my most important concept,
because it was what introduce me to the course. Critical thinking is the ability and willingness to
assess claims and make objective judgement on the base of supported evidence and not from
emotions. I like it

Amadors Monologue
I have to run faster. He is getting too close. Veronica, you can out run him I tell myself, but the pain in
my chest everytime I take a breath is telling me otherwise. He is close enough now that I can feel his
breaths on the back of my neck. The man s arms pull me to the ground. Should I even try to escape?
He is much larger than me, and my guess is he is about thirty five. I am only sixteen. If I try to get
away, it would probably just make him more angry. Maybe I can talk to him. What did I do? I say
trying to keep a steady voice. He gets his fist and hits me in my right eyebrow. I do not move. I am too
stunned. Is this pain? Is this fear? Thanks to the Amadors, the leaders of Andorra, I have never had to

Counterculture In The 1960s
1967 was a year focused around counterculture as a revolutionary new movement captured the nation
s attention. This phenomenon, whose members were called hippies, originated with America s youth,
though it quickly spread to other nations. Hippies advocated personal freedom and expression and
hoped to create a society full of peace, harmony, and love. As hippies challenged traditional societal
values in an attempt to find inner peace, many members began to experiment with a variety of
mediums, including illegal drugs, such a marijuana and LSD; bold fashion, such as tie dyed shirts,
long hair, and love beads; and sexual freedom. Following a philosophy of do your own thing , many

The year began with a bad start when Vietcong soldiers attacked several South Vietnam cities in a

Vietcong were close to defeat. However, this surprise attack proved that the Vietcong were still strong
and that the government had been deceiving the public. This incident changed the opinions of millions
of Americans and support for the Vietnam War was at an all time low. However, events occurring

The Importance Of Military Deception
Military Deception (MILDEC) is applicable at all levels of war and can be implemented within any
phase of military operations to deter hostile actions and increase success of friendly defensive and
offensive operations. To achieve these goals and objectives policy and doctrine which is the driving
force for everything the United States Military does will need to be sound and able to navigate the
geopolitical environment. These critical principles serve as one of the most important aspects when
discussing or implementing MILDEC. In addition, these principles serve as a guide when developing
plans by providing knowledge based experience (literature/doctrine) and nest authority with legal
backing for the Geographical Combatant Commander (GCC) and the Joint Force Commander (JFC)
when conducting MILDEC operations. In the following paragraphs, I will illustrate how creative
thinking was incorporated through MILDEC into military action which lead to successful operations.
Deception operations have been employed in warfare throughout history, with the earliest mentions
being 1294 BC when Pharaoh Ramses II of Egypt led his army against the Hittite stronghold of
Kadesh. Two Hittite soldiers volunteered to lead Egyptian elements against their former comrades.
This trust proved to be devastating for the pharaoh because of their desired perception of the two
informants. Often, as we have learned during the MILDEC course that the best deception operation is

Why Is Risk Taking Important
From the beginning of mankind to our modern day society, individuals have a tendency to gape at
individuals who put a lot on the line to achieve a desired goal. Whether it be a Marvel superhero to our
local firemen, individuals who put their well being on the line are placed in a high stature in the eyes
of many. We gravitate to be just like these individuals and are ashamed of becoming viewed as a
coward. This idea is prevalent in people of all ages, backgrounds, and gender and will continue to
motivate us to attain glory by means of taking risks. However, it is important to know the fine line

Although it isn t equivalent to daredevils who bungee jump or skydive, most of what we do is in the
boundaries of risk taking. People start taking risks from the moment you were born. Babies take the
risk that their caregivers will provide them the right nourishment to prosper. In infants, their first step
to walking involved them taking the risk of falling down. Children take risks of losing whenever they
play a game of competition. High school students take risks when they take standardized exams such
as the SAT which serves as a measuring stick between themselves and their peers. Adults who apply
for a job take the risk of not getting accepted or eventually fired. Old people take the risk of getting up
everyday and face the possibility of injuring their frail bodies. One of the most risky concept in our
modern day world is sports. Sports attract a huge audiences and unite people of all backgrounds.
However, if you watch sports, you likely have a favorite team. If you have a favorite team, you are

Animal Experimentation Is Unnecessary

medicine have happened because of animal experimentation. Animal experimentation is unethical.
Also animals are being used in biomedical experiments, the business is highly unethical in all of the
rules it breaks, and morals codes (Peggs, 2015). Additionally a study conducted by Beauchamp and
colleges (2015) shows the inefficiency of animal experimentations in helping humans through
misleading findings, it provides false data in the makings of some vaccines and treatments.

Ordinary People written by Judith Guest is a story about a typical American family. The book

After reading the DSM 5 is was clear to me that Conrad was suffering from persistent depressive

First, is the Diathesis and Stress model, which proposes that depression, results from the interaction of
personal vulnerabilities and stressful events or circumstances. Therefore, if Conrad was susceptible
either due to genetics or temperament his brother s death could have been the stressor that resulted in
his depression. Although we are only given a little information on what Conrad was like before the
death of his brother, this is definitely plausible. Another factor is that research indicates that families
of depressed children are characterized by problems with attachment, communication, conflict,
cohesions, and support, as well as poor child rearing practices. It is clear that the Jarrett family has its
fair share of family problems. The first is a problem that due to his mother s love for Buck, Conrad
feels that their relationship does not measure up. Therefore, there is most likely some attachment
issues within the relationship. Lastly, there is certainly a lack of communication within the house.
Nothing is talked about because there is a belief that they don t have any problems.
The article Child and Adolescent Depression in the Family examined the positive effects that family
therapy can have on a child suffering from depression. The research found that all the studies
involving a family focused treatment was effective at decreasing youth depression. I think that this

death in 1872.
Philosophy: Mazzini believed in the people, he was against the influence of Austria and France; was
against all the old leaders. Thought Christianity was a worn out religion, and God should be shown
through the people, also he wanted a democratic republic.
Problems: His writings were too intellectual and idealistic for many people, but saying this he was a

Historian Dennis mack smith, Mazzini succeeded in defining the goal and arousing enthusiasm among

VCAM 1 binds to counter receptors on leukocytes found in nascent atheromas (Hansson, 2005). In
models of experimental atherosclerosis, expression of
VCAM 1 has been shown to increase on endothelial cells overlying nascent atheromas before
leukocytes adhere to the arterial endothelium, and also mice genetically engineered to express
defective VCAM 1, have shown interrupted lesion development (Cybulsky et al, 2001). Once the
blood cells have attached, chemokines produced in the underlying intima stimulate them to migrate
through the interendothelial junctions and into the sub endothelial space. Morphological studies have
established that this migration of leukocytes through the endothelium occurs by diapedesis between
the junctions of the endothelial cells (Hansson, 2005), and is now known to be mediated by defined
spectrum of chemo attractant cytokines capable of recruiting leukocytes into the arterial intima. The
monocyte chemo attractant protein1
(MCP 1), which is over expressed in human and experimental atheroma, appears responsible for the
direct migration of mononuclear phagocytes (monocytes) that characteristically accumulate in nascent
atheroma (Gu et al, 1998). Studies using compound mutant mice lacking MCP 1 or its receptor CCR2,
and susceptible to atherosclerosis owing to the absence of genes encoding apoE

Starved and fed larvae were washed in a drop of ddH2O three times prior to behavioral analysis.
Behavioral assays
Two choice assay The two choice assay was conducted as described (Kreher, Mathew et al. 2008)
(Monte, Woodard et al. 1989). Two filter paper discs were placed at diametrically opposite ends of the
petri dish containing 1.1% agarose. The experimental odorant was added on one of the filter disc while
the control diluent (paraffin oil) was added on the other filter disc. Odorants were serially diluted to
1:10 2 in paraffin oil for two choice assays. The response index (RI) was calculated by allowing ~50
larvae in the center of the plate and are allowed to migrate for exactly 5 mins within the odor gradient.
RI is measured by counting the number of larvae after five minutes on each half of the petri plate. RI
is calculated by using the formula (#larvae towards the odorant half ( ) #larvae towards the control
half) / (Total number of larvae). Two choice assay was done under highly controlled conditions of
humidity, temperature and light. For behavioral assays, the temperature was maintained at 22 23
degrees C and 45% 50% relative humidity.
Tracking assay The tracking assay was conducted as previously described (Mathew, Martelli et al.

Abstract
Probabilistic topic modeling provides computational methods for large text data analysis. Today
streaming text mining plays an important role within real time social media mining. Latent Dirichlet
Allocation (LDA) model was developed a decade ago to aid discovery of the hidden thematic structure
in large archives of documents. It is acknowledged by many researchers as the most popular approach
for building topic models. In this study, we discuss topic modeling and more specifically LDA. We
identify speed as one of the major limitations of LDA application in streaming big text data analytics.
The main aim of this study is to enhance inference speed of LDA thereby develop a new inference
method and algorithm. Given the characteristics of this specific research problem, the approach to the
proposed research will follow the experimental model. We will investigate causal relationships using a

as solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. In a state of nature, every man is against every man. One
might assume that in such a state of nature the strong would naturally triumph over the weak and
balance would be naturally restored, however, according to Hobbes people are equal. Every individual
possesses the natural right to preserve oneself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, what s the general rule that stands behind the particular action that s being considered?
Kant refers to this principle of universality as categorical imperatives. If it is necessary for you to lie
to prevent an innocent person from being killed, you must ask what the maxim of the action is. The
maxim, in this case, is lying. If you approve the maxim of lying even to save a life then you are
universalizing that action, basically saying that everyone should always lie if it is in someone s best
interest. If you should be able to do it, then everyone should be able to do it. This leads to a
contradiction and Kant explicitly states that moral actions cannot bring about

Fayetteville Case Study
One can get extremely frustrated driving from Fayetteville to Rogers these days. There is construction
everywhere, causing delays, lane closures, and much havoc on our commutes to and from home,
school, and work. If you take out the frustration, one can see the positives to the improvements. The
road worker who has been out of work for months is now able to provide for his family, the drivers are
getting an improvement to the neglected roads traveled daily, the state is making an investment in their
infrastructure that will last for many years to come, and our economy is showing a sign of
improvement! Investing time and money into our infrastructure benefits all of us and is a sign to our
economic growth. In the short term, the investment in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When one thinks about the quality of life in China, people assume that they are thriving due to the
booming markets in their big cities. However, most of China is considered rural and conditions are not
like that of those in the city. Over the past decade, China has invested time and money into developing
their power grids and the development of roads and highways, amongst other things. Their increase in
infrastructure has increased the quality of life for everybody involved. Because they are able to hire
cheap labor, they have been able to employ hundreds, if not thousands, in order to continue their
growth, which makes way for quality of life improvements. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of
Atlanta, China spent 9% of GDP on infrastructure... (Laurel Graefe). That is a very measurable
amount of money! Although infrastructure is one of the major components to a thriving economy, you
must also take into consideration technology and the productivity of the people. If technology is not
improving, it s harder to improve the quality of goods and services provided. If a person in the work
field is not productive in their work or undereducated in their work, the quality of the goods and
services they are creating will not benefit the buyer and therefore goods and services will not be
purchased. Therefore, technology and human productivity go hand in hand with infrastructure

Founding Brothers Summary
Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis is a study of the lives of the founders of the American republic or
as Ellis sees them, the founding fathers Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, John Adams, Aaron
Burr, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison. It mainly focuses on important
segments in the lives of these men. Ellis shows us how the relationships of the Founding Fathers
shaped the period in which they lived. (Melanie R. McBride. Cedars, S.R. ed. Founding Brothers
Summary . GradeSaver, 13 April 2013 Web. 18 August 2015.) He also argues that the checks and
balances that allowed the infant American republic to stand were not for the most part legal,
constitutional, or institutional, but in fact were very personal, imbedded ... Show more content on

The intended audience as it seems would be initially college students. The only weakness that I found
in the book is that it wasn t in order. If the book had been in chronological order it would be easier to
understand. During the 1790s, as Ellis describes them as, the greatest statesmen of their generation,
came together to outline the new republic and direct its course for the coming centuries. Ellis focuses
on six distinct moments that show the most crucial issues facing the infant nation: Burr and Hamilton
s deadly duel; Hamilton, Jefferson, and Madison s secret dinner; Franklin s petition to end the peculiar
institution of slavery, and Madison s efforts to defeat it; Washington s Farewell Address, announcing
his retirement from office; Adams s difficult term as Washington s replacement and his alleged scheme
to pass the presidency on to his son; and finally, Adams and Jefferson s improved communication at
the end of their lives, in which they compared their different views of the Revolution and its legacy. In
the first chapter Ellis discusses how the duel reveals the importance of personal reputation in the days
of a blossoming government.

Mountain Pine Beetle Research Paper
Our forests are extremely vital and important to our world and society. They supply us with oxygen
and other essiential human needs. However, the number of trees in our forests has been decreasing at
an alarming rate due to human interaction and other factors. There have been desperate attempts in
order to increase the number of trees in our forests as well. Scientists have experimented with
biotechnology in order to test factors that affect trees. In this paper, I will review loblolly pines, and
mountain pine beetles, and discuss which will have more of an effect on the number of trees in our
forests.

However I believe that the affects of mountain pine beetle will have a more major impact on the
number of trees in our forests
The ideas of cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines discussed by Li and Gupta are effective and
work. However, we as a society simply don t have the time, money, research or manpower to be
constantly regenerating clones and cloning loblolly pines. The process also has negative effects on our
environment and our health. Loblolly pines can also only be cloned or regenerated in small numbers
and it s not enough to compensate for the number of dying trees. Due to these reasons, the idea of
cloning and regeneration of loblolly pines is not practical and is not enough to compensate for the
mass number of dying trees.
However, Mountain Pine Beetles are extremely destructive and devasting to forests. Even though
there is no direct correlation between Mountain Pine Beetles and forest fires, they are still destructive
nevertheless. Mountain Pine Beetles do have the time, and manpower to continue to cause mass
deforestation. Another reason is that there have been attempts to clone these beetles. Keeling
attempted to clone the particle that triggers the attack of the mountain pine beetles. With even more
potential beetles, these beetles will most definitely continue to wreak havoc across the forests of

Top Ten Advertising Agency in India
Top Te Advertising is a medium meant to propagate ideas to people using any means of
communication. Liberalization has empowered advertising and has completely changed the Indian
advertising scenario. The major areas touched by advertising are FMCG s food market, cosmetics etc.
Advertising is like the two sides of a coin. Sometimes it may seem that advertisements send out the
wrong message or impel people to buy certain products. On the other hand, advertising can be
perceived as a means to sell a product or a service which can improve by competition.
Today, advertising is booming. With the growing markets and competition, it has become an essential
tool to reach the target market as well as the target audience.

Naturalism And Naturalism
To start things off, both versions touched on the four traits in which naturalism convey. Those four
traits being heredity, passion, instinct, and environment. However, not all traits were expressed the
same, and not all traits had the same substance or background information within the stories. For
starters in Version A, each character was identified by their gender, but in Version B, the character had
an actual name. Version A suggests This fact did not worry the man (London 629). However, in
Version B it states In the Klondike, as Tom Vincent... (1). This goes against the whole basis of
naturalism. Naturalism is very raw and philosophical when it comes to identity. In the sense of not
caring for names. It ll rather identify something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, Version A had a little twist to it because unlike Version B, the man in Version A had a
dog to accompany him. The dog played a very pivotal role in this story. In Version A, you see the true
fashion of Eric Link s method of Scientific Naturalism. The story shows how the man was willing to
kill the dog, so that he could use the carcass to relieve his hands from the numbness. Version A stated
He remembered the tale of the man, caught in a blizzard, who killed a steer and crawled inside the
carcass, and so was saved (London 636). In other words, he was willing to take a life to save his own.
This is naturalism at its finest because in order to live, sometimes we have to do the unthinkable.
Survival of the fittest plays a crucial role in life or death situations. In addition to that, when it comes
to death in naturalism; we tend to have two choices. Either you accept defeat and die or you go out
swinging, and maybe just maybe you will live. In both stories, the men are about to freeze to death.
However, one begins to panic and accept his demise. While the other begins to think of a solution.
Version A states There were lots worse ways to die (London 638). This shows the pessimistic side of
the man in Version A. This goes hand to hand with Becker s definition of naturalism. Which touches
on the subjects of being hopeless. Version B states Burned hands are better than dead hands. No hands
at all were better than death (5). This shows the instinct of man

Walden, By Henry David Thoreau
The majority of Henry David Thoreau s Walden, concerns the idea of opting out of society. In his
chapter Solitude Thoreau describes how [his] horizon bounded by woods all to [himself] (111) is
beautiful and belongs solely to him. As he is enjoying nature Thoreau states, There can be no very
black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of Nature (111). Thoreau s theme of being alone and
appreciating nature is found throughout his book to such an extent that one can conclude that he
believes the best way to live is without society. Thoreau cannot stand to pay his taxes because he
refuses to, recognize the authority of, the state which buys and sells men, women, and children (145).
Which is such an opinion that leads to him spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People love to have the newest toys, and put great stock in the newest fashion trends. In present day
society, new technology or clothes symbolize status and wealth that separates the social classes of
people. Thoreau shows his readers that this form of separation has existed since the eighteen hundreds.
Thoreau comments on how people would often throw out perfectly good clothes, because of one little
hole, because people are judged by their clothes (20). This upsets Thoreau because to him, a little bit
of damage does not mean something is useless or broken. He believes that people should just patch the
hole, since it is more cost effective and will increase the duration of the articles lifetime. However,
more commonly the piece of clothing is thrown out to be replaced by a new article. In Thoreau s eyes,
people follow such a practice because, Our outside and often thin and fanciful clothes are our
epidermis or false skin (21). Thoreau s dislike of society stems from the fact that people [Donn]
garment after garment (21), taking too much pride in their outward appearance. The idea that the value
of a person s life is dictated by their possessions is one reason why Thoreau believes that society
serves to corrupt and infect everyone who is a part of it. Society refuses to live by necessity alone, but
rather focuses on the accumulation of

  • 2. Chameleon Effect Lab Report A water tornado is in a flask, and the water... It s purple. No, it s turquoise. Green? Brown? It s orange now. How? These scientists must be from Frankenstein s lab. Of course these demonstrators weren t from Frankenstein s lab, but in fourth grade I thought they were. Only when I took AP Chemistry did I learn that this chameleon effect was just a simple redox reaction. As a child, I loved watching the colors change, but as I got older, I yearned to understand why they changed. This mindset and the interactive experiments I conducted immersed me in the wonders of chemistry. At Northwestern s Weinberg College of Arts Sciences, I would surround myself with people who share my passion, eager to explore the depths of chemical reactions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Arguments Against Victimization There were examinations made by theorists that suggest some people are, in fact, victim prone and argue that, similar to the concept of born criminals , there are born victims (Moriarty, 2003). Born victims are individuals who seem to be self destructive and studies have proclaimed that they are responsible, to some degree, for their own victimization. There is a continuous reciprocal action between predators and victims (Moriarty, 2003). There are two main ways precipitative behavior can come about, this being both actively and passively. In active precipitation, explained by Wolfgang, it states that the victim is behaving in a threatening, violent, almost intolerable, manner with the offender, which can have the victim involve themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order for an individual to fully protect themselves against victimization, they would need to seriously alter their whole life. To some degree, everyone in society has no choice but to involve themselves in risky behavior (Moriarty, 2003). There are situations that are completely out of one s control, and circumstances that can not be changed. For instance, some people could live in a higher crime rate neighborhood, so no matter what, stepping outside of the confines of their home is a risk. But it is a risk worth taking because people need to run errands, go out to eat, go to work, etc. They can not be responsible if they are a victim of crime by choosing to not live in fear. Blaming the victim, even slightly, then diminishes full responsibility for the offender. The concept of victim precipitation provides a cultural framework which offenders can use to rationalize their behavior (Moriarty, 2003, p. 32). To better put this into perspective, in 2016, the Stanford University swimmer, Brock Turner, was charged with sexual assault. After serving only three months, he was given an earlier release date. Arguments, in this case, stated that the woman should have never been as intoxicated as she was. The real argument here should have been, Mr. Turner never laying a hand on her in any way (Shariff Wiseman, 2016). Offenders should almost always take full responsibility for immersion in crime, because when victim blaming occurs, it impacts the victim emotionally, mentally, and psychologically. It even has the possibility of the punishment for the offender become less severe. To add on, the creation of victim blaming creates culturally legitimate victims , which is incredibly harmful to those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Synthesis And Characterization Of Aspirin Organic Chemistry 322 Lab Report Part I. Synthesis and Characterization of Aspirin Part II. Extraction of Natural Products Name: Bianca Davis Instructor: Dr. Russell Date Submitted: December 8, 2014 Introduction Aspirin is a substance known as acetylsalicylic acid. It is used mainly as an over the counter drug used to relieve inflammation, pain, and fever. Its natural form is salicylic acid. This synthesis process requires the acetylation of salicylic acid with acetic anhydride. The purpose of this lab is to synthesize and purify aspirin. We also characterized the aspirin via melting point, iron (III) chloride test, pH test, and thin layer chromatography. The synthesized aspirin successfully produced a 65.38% yield. The contents were then gently swirled and transported to the hot water bath created earlier. The heat from the water bath and occasional mixing of the contents quickly dissolved the powder contents. The flask was then removed and combined with 40mL of cold distilled water. The flask was then placed into an ice bath to create a slush like substance. • 6. The Debate On Abortion And Abortion Abortion. This word leaves most people feeling uneasy after just saying it out loud. The discussion of abortion is continuously left open ended with millions of opinions, arguments, and questions. Abortions occur every single day leaving potential fathers devastated or thrilled, leaving friends and families broken and distraught or in contrast, proud. More importantly, leaving the potential mother uncertain and even destroyed. But with abortion in mind, what is considered wrong and what is considered right? What is moral and what is immoral? Is all faith in humanity questioned at the sole argument of either aborting or not aborting an unborn child? Moreover, who is granted the superior authority on deciding what is morally correct or incorrect this day and age. As I said before, bottomless questions and vast accusations tend to be the fuel for this fire. It is as if society is waiting for the perfect, yet, moderate argument on abortion, tying up all of the loose ends and meeting somewhere in between what is right and what is wrong when considering abortion rights. Is there even a common ground of understanding when debating the existence of another human? The endless and twisted argument continues to linger on, although Judith Jarvis Thomson s Defense of Abortion communicated insightful views which in fact influenced my very own ideas on the argument of abortion. As I was reading Thomson s, Defense on Abortion I found myself unsure and often questioning the side she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of The Art Of War By Sun Tzu Book Analysis: The Art of War by Sun Tzu Ancient Chinese scholar Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War more than 2000 years earlier, probably for kings, generals and solders of his time. However, this book is still relevant in this high tech modern world. It has still a powerful energy to work as a useful guidance for modern times. The Art of War is actually about struggles and confrontation we all go through in our daily lives. We as all face same kinds of dilemmas in our hearts and minds when it comes to compete with real life challenges. Though the book was compiled as a military advice in ancient times, it has potential to function as practical guide in all facets of life even today. This book is guide for victory in life, but it is also about the art of war. At the same time, it is all about self awareness. It says know the enemy and know yourself; in in hundred battles you will never be in peril . This is how Sun Tzu emphasises the importance of knowing about yourself. To be able to be a winner in the challenges of life it is important to know your strengths and weakness. If you are know yourself very well you should not worry about anything. Sun Tzu has made it very clear that half battle is won when you have a better understanding of yourself. However, if you neither know about yourself nor about your enemy, it means you are at a very high risk every time you enter a competition. Therefore, to be successful in life, one must be aware about both himself and the opposing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Animals, the beautiful creatures of God in stoic and later especially in Porphyry s sense need to be treated as rational. Stoic asks for justice to all rational beings but it seems to me that there is no relevant proclaim from their side which talks in favour of the animal s justice. They claim about the rationality of animals but do not confer a right like the human that later Porphyry wonderfully introduced in his writing On Abstinence From Animal Food. This structure also allows for the information of the APTA to be made more accessible to members by allowing members to attend meetings locally instead of only having the option of a nationally centered location.2 It is important for students and practicing Physical Therapists to get involved with the APTA. Alice becomes so absorbed in the possibility of Ned that she cannot break out of the bubble she has created for her fantasy life. In this section Alice finally frees herself from her dependence on her ideas of youth and love. She imagines that the rain will allow her to re experience her youth, and for a moment she does. Alice feels free and young, but still lonely. Alice runs into an elderly man while she is on her naked escapade in the rain, and craves a connection to him. Alice begins to ask him to wait for her. Introduction This paper is a summary of research on scholarly articles by Michael Hammer, Ph.D. The three articles are Reengineering at Net Speed , The New Business Agenda and Putting Six Sigma in Perspective . Dr. Hammer earned his bachelors, masters and Ph.D. in computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was professor in the computer science department at MIT and a lecturer in the MIT Sloan School of Management. Reengineering At Net Speed Fasten your seat belt; it ll be quite a ride , is how Dr. Michael Hammer ended his 1999 article in InformationWeek titled, Reengineering at Net Speed . The article focuses on the possibilities the internet will have on business processes and how process reengineering is necessary in net age. Dr. Hammer argues that reengineering is necessary with the internet because automating a mess yields an automated mess . He argues that a poorly designed process in a traditional business environment will be a poor designed process on the internet as well. He further states that processes will be need to implemented and designed to support the internet model of business. The internet model of business has high customer value access. • 12. The Neuman System Model And Its Impact On Patients And... Betty Neuman is a renowned nursing theorist who developed the Neuman System Model. This model emphasizes stress and the impact it can have on patients and nursing care. Key concepts of this theory include preventions, stressors, and lines of defense. Neuman also addresses the metaparadigms of nursing, health, human being, and environment in relation to her model. The Neuman System Model is recognized by nurses across the globe, and a Neuman System Practice Center has been established to help develop her theory (Gigliotti, 2012, p. 298). This theory can be utilized in any nursing care and is inspiration for other nursing theorists. The Neuman System Model is an open system that responds to stressors in the internal, external, and created environments (Masters, 2015). The model can be applied to physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual nursing care making it very diverse in applicability. The Neuman System Model discusses many concepts. One major concept is the idea of stressors and their affects on the patient system. Neuman defines stressors as any phenomenon that might penetrate both the flexible and normal lines of defense, resulting in a positive or negative outcome (Masters, 2015). Types of stressors include intrapersonal, interpersonal, and extrapersonal. Intrapersonal stressors are those that occur within the client system boundary and correlate with the internal environment (Masters, 2015). Interpersonal stressors are those that ... • 14. Essay on Aphra Behn s Play Oronooko Oronooko is an excellent play by Aphra Behn that discusses a large array of wonderful themes. The story s main character depicts a person of power. He was in a sense eventually forced to empathize with those he unintentionally caused a great deal of harm to. Oronooko a man of royalty participated in the selling of African slaves. An African himself saw nothing wrong in doing this; this was an accepted part of his culture. He befriended the British and lived a life envied by those he persecuted. It s ironic how his very friends (the British) became those people he learned to hate; they became his masters. The story has a nice turn of tales. He had learned to take tobacco, and when he was assured he should die, he desired they would give him a pipe in his mouth....The executor came and first cut off his members and threw them in the fire. Page 3 ....They cut his ears and his nose and burned them; he still smoked on, as if nothing touched him. This is a great example of visualization through the text, it is quite easy to picture the scene here taking place in great detail. Then they hacked off one of his arms, his head sunk, and his pipe dropped, and he gave up the ghost.... (Behn 2193) This is a clear example of symbolism in the novel. Those well versed in the Bible will noticed that this is parallel to how Christ was murdered. He never spoke a word while he was being tortured, his people persecuted him and in the end he gave up the GHOST . George Etherege s comedy The Man of Mode took a slightly different approach to depicting the restoration period. He used characters that were both unusual as well as witty. • 15. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and per capital number in the world. 22% of Americans own one or more guns (35% of men and 12% of women). America s pervasive gun culture stems in part from its colonial history, revolutionary roots, frontier expansion, and the Second Amendment, which states: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Proponents of more gun control laws state that the Second Amendment was intended for militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions. Pros:High capacity magazines should be banned because they too often turn murder into mass murder. A Mother Jones investigation found that high capacity magazines were used in at least 50% of the 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012. [7] When high capacity magazines were used in mass shootings, the death rate rose 63% and the injury rate rose 156%. David H. Chipman, Senior Vice President of Public Safety for Shot spotter and former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agent, stated that a high capacity magazine turns a killer into a killing machine. Through observation, there have been quite a lot of conclusions to his faith. Some conclusions are: skepticism, deism, Christianity, theism, fatalism, and even atheism. It s an on going debate for the conclusion to his faith although we won t be able to ever prove exactly what his beliefs were since he never made a profession, there are many facts leading to his belief in a personal savior. Among the conclusions, skepticism is one of many. In his earlier years, he was a known skeptic and he is often remembered as a skeptic because of his earlier quotes (George). Despite his firm belief in God, proved by the references to God and the Bible in the Second Inaugural Address, some say that he was just trying to please the audience even though what he said is not what the people wanted to hear (Calhoun and Morel). Lincoln may have been a skeptic at a young age, but he showed reliance on God later in life. James Smith said that he was inclined to believe that Lincoln was a skeptic but unlike most skeptics, he was a constant reader of the Bible (Lind, 51). He showed no skepticism as the president, he only showed his reliance on God and his unfailing word. Another belief was that Lincoln was a deist. Possibly because he never made a profession of faith and he never officially joined a church but this is not a sound argument. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Beatitudes In Jesus sermon On The Mount In Matthew 5 Conforming to the world brings shame, but standing with the righteous brings eternal glory. In Jesus Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5, He gives the world a path to follow, an outline of how to live commonly known as the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are puzzling to us. They are difficult to put together rationally and find the logic in them. God s plans for our world and for our lives are not always logical to us, but He is God and does things for reasons we cannot understand. We can see through the Beatitudes and Beyond the Gates of Splendor that the Peacemaker is the Child of God who can rejoice when persecuted for righteousness sake. This type of persecution shows that the Peacemaker has been recognized as someone who has not conformed to the pattern of this world, and has lived a life worthy of their call of Christ Jesus which then allows them to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and be called children of God. One of the biggest contradictions we seem to be faced with in the Beatitudes is the eighth and final one. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matthew 5:10). It does not seem to be logical to be blessed when evil is against you. I struggle with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Golden Ratio is a special number that is defined mathematically from which produces 1.618033989..., commonly used as the approximation 1.618. There is interesting fact that digits just keep on going to infinity, with no pattern. Mathematically, the Golden Ratio is tends to be an irrational number. Two numbers tend to be golden if the ratio of their sum to the bigger number is equal as the larger to the smaller number. In other words, this relationship could be expressed with the following equation: In the case of a rectangle, if k is the length of the longer sides, whereas m is the length of the shorter sides, ... Some investigations of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon, established that majority of its proportions mostly are close to the golden ratio. It could be concluded that architects knew the golden ratio, that is why classical buildings and their elements are proportioned according to the golden ratio. The design of the Parthenon was created according to the Golden ratio, as illustrated in the picture 1. Another famous example of usage the Golden ratio in architecture is the Acropolis of Athens. The dimensions of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is approximately 4,600 years old, are also based on the Golden Ratio. When it comes to art, there are several illustrations, which can prove that the Golden ratio is used in the arts as well. For instance, Leonardo da Vinci s paintings in De Divina Proportione (On the Divine Proportion) and Mona Lisa employ the Golden ratio in their geometric equivalents. I did not read it as if I related to autism, but as I remember all the words that define who were are by society s standards. In Clifton s poem emotion could be felt when portraying those with autism and I was determined to make a similar piece. For my piece I began to define beauty based on society s definition rather than how Clifton defines autism by the dictionary definition. I wanted there to be two different voices heard in my poem. The first voice was that of myself as I reminisce on what beauty felt like as I grew up. The other voice is society and all the ideas that make someone beautiful. I decided to use the word beauty because I have been talking to my sister lately and a boy told her she was not pretty enough to be his girlfriend. In models of experimental atherosclerosis, expression of VCAM 1 has been shown to increase on endothelial cells overlying nascent atheromas before leukocytes adhere to the arterial endothelium, and also mice genetically engineered to express defective VCAM 1, have shown interrupted lesion development (Cybulsky et al, 2001). Once the blood cells have attached, chemokines produced in the underlying intima stimulate them to migrate through the interendothelial junctions and into the sub endothelial space. Morphological studies have established that this migration of leukocytes through the endothelium occurs by diapedesis between the junctions of the endothelial cells (Hansson, 2005), and is now known to be mediated by defined spectrum of chemo attractant cytokines capable of recruiting leukocytes into the arterial intima. The monocyte chemo attractant protein1 (MCP 1), which is over expressed in human and experimental atheroma, appears responsible for the direct migration of mononuclear phagocytes (monocytes) that characteristically accumulate in nascent atheroma (Gu et al, 1998). These resources include coal and iron, which are mined out of the mountains to the west. Oil, lumber, are harvested all across the island. Most of the forests have been cut down in the more populated areas while in the less populated areas, the forests thrive. The mountains have also had roads put in to allow all the heavy mining machinery to get through. The Colinesian people have houses that are much like our own in the United States. They are built to withstand pretty much everything. But unlike the United States, the Colinesians have a built in immunity for the fresh water. Without it, everybody who lives there would be sick. Starved and fed larvae were washed in a drop of ddH2O three times prior to behavioral analysis. Behavioral assays Two choice assay The two choice assay was conducted as described (Kreher, Mathew et al. 2008) (Monte, Woodard et al. 1989). Two filter paper discs were placed at diametrically opposite ends of the petri dish containing 1.1% agarose. The experimental odorant was added on one of the filter disc while the control diluent (paraffin oil) was added on the other filter disc. Odorants were serially diluted to 1:10 2 in paraffin oil for two choice assays. The response index (RI) was calculated by allowing ~50 larvae in the center of the plate and are allowed to migrate for exactly 5 mins within the odor gradient. RI is measured by counting the number of larvae after five minutes on each half of the petri plate. RI is calculated by using the formula (#larvae towards the odorant half ( ) #larvae towards the control half) / (Total number of larvae). Two choice assay was done under highly controlled conditions of humidity, temperature and light. For behavioral assays, the temperature was maintained at 22 23 degrees C and 45% 50% relative humidity. Tracking assay The tracking assay was conducted as previously described (Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Today streaming text mining plays an important role within real time social media mining. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model was developed a decade ago to aid discovery of the hidden thematic structure in large archives of documents. It is acknowledged by many researchers as the most popular approach for building topic models. In this study, we discuss topic modeling and more specifically LDA. We identify speed as one of the major limitations of LDA application in streaming big text data analytics. The main aim of this study is to enhance inference speed of LDA thereby develop a new inference method and algorithm. Given the characteristics of this specific research problem, the approach to the proposed research will follow the experimental model. We will investigate causal relationships using a test ... • 43. Kant Vs Hobbes 1. Thomas Hobbes is the founding father of modern political philosophy, in his work ¨Leviathan¨ he sets out why people should obey governmental authority in order to avoid the risk of chaos and bloodshed which he defines as the ¨state of nature.¨ Imagine a world without laws. Hobbes called this hypothetical time, with no rules to command our actions, a state of nature, and he describes life there as solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. In a state of nature, every man is against every man. One might assume that in such a state of nature the strong would naturally triumph over the weak and balance would be naturally restored, however, according to Hobbes people are equal. In other words, what s the general rule that stands behind the particular action that s being considered? Kant refers to this principle of universality as categorical imperatives. If it is necessary for you to lie to prevent an innocent person from being killed, you must ask what the maxim of the action is. The maxim, in this case, is lying. If you approve the maxim of lying even to save a life then you are universalizing that action, basically saying that everyone should always lie if it is in someone s best interest. If you should be able to do it, then everyone should be able to do it. This leads to a contradiction and Kant explicitly states that moral actions cannot bring about ... However, most of China is considered rural and conditions are not like that of those in the city. Over the past decade, China has invested time and money into developing their power grids and the development of roads and highways, amongst other things. Their increase in infrastructure has increased the quality of life for everybody involved. Because they are able to hire cheap labor, they have been able to employ hundreds, if not thousands, in order to continue their growth, which makes way for quality of life improvements. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, China spent 9% of GDP on infrastructure... (Laurel Graefe). That is a very measurable amount of money! Although infrastructure is one of the major components to a thriving economy, you must also take into consideration technology and the productivity of the people. If technology is not improving, it s harder to improve the quality of goods and services provided. However, not all traits were expressed the same, and not all traits had the same substance or background information within the stories. For starters in Version A, each character was identified by their gender, but in Version B, the character had an actual name. Version A suggests This fact did not worry the man (London 629). Nevertheless, Version A had a little twist to it because unlike Version B, the man in Version A had a dog to accompany him. The dog played a very pivotal role in this story. In Version A, you see the true fashion of Eric Link s method of Scientific Naturalism. The story shows how the man was willing to kill the dog, so that he could use the carcass to relieve his hands from the numbness. Version A stated He remembered the tale of the man, caught in a blizzard, who killed a steer and crawled inside the carcass, and so was saved (London 636). In other words, he was willing to take a life to save his own. This is naturalism at its finest because in order to live, sometimes we have to do the unthinkable. Survival of the fittest plays a crucial role in life or death situations. In addition to that, when it comes to death in naturalism; we tend to have two choices. Either you accept defeat and die or you go out swinging, and maybe just maybe you will live. In both stories, the men are about to freeze to death. However, one begins to panic and accept his demise. While the other begins to think of a solution. Version A states There were lots worse ways to die (London 638). This shows the pessimistic side of the man in Version A. This goes hand to hand with Becker s definition of naturalism. Which touches on the subjects of being hopeless. Version B states Burned hands are better than dead hands.
