Education Essay
Writing an essay on the broad topic of education can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty lies in the vastness and complexity of the subject matter. Education encompasses a
wide range of aspects, including philosophy, history, psychology, sociology, pedagogy, and more.
Crafting a comprehensive essay requires a deep understanding of these facets and the ability to
synthesize information from various sources.
One of the challenges is determining the focus of the essay. Education is a multifaceted field,
and choosing a specific aspect or issue to explore can be daunting. Moreover, staying objective
while discussing different educational philosophies or controversial topics can be tricky, as one
must navigate through diverse perspectives with nuance and balance.
Research is another key hurdle. To produce a well-informed essay, one needs to delve into
academic journals, books, and reliable online sources. Navigating through the sea of information
and critically evaluating sources to ensure credibility adds an extra layer of complexity.
Structuring the essay poses yet another challenge. Balancing an introduction, thesis statement,
body paragraphs, and a conclusion while maintaining coherence and logical flow requires careful
planning. Moreover, finding the right words to express complex ideas in a clear and concise
manner can be demanding.
Lastly, the ever-evolving nature of education means staying updated on the latest research and
developments. This necessitates constant revision and refinement of the essay to ensure its
relevance.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on education is a formidable task that demands a combination of
research skills, critical thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively. However, the process
can be made more manageable with thorough planning, a clear focus, and dedication to staying
informed. For those seeking assistance, there are services like HelpWriting.net where similar
essays and more can be ordered to simplify the academic writing journey.

William 18th Century Edinburgh s Court Of Session
Lord Monboddo, one of the most respected, eminent Judges at 18th century
Edinburgh s Court of Session, was definitely an oddball, passionately devoted to the
ways of the Ancient Greeks and disapproving of anything he considered modern. As
a result he lived simply, because if the Ancient Greeks didn t use it, neither did he
Brilliant lawyer, philosopher, leading figure in the Scottish Enlightenment and a
striking, complex, flamboyant character to boot. Not bad for a laddie who started his
education at Laurencekirk primary school.

When the case was finally to be decided before the bench, the new Lord gave a
blisteringly powerful closing argument when it looked to all that the case was lost.
They should have known better. Monboddo s five hour speech turned the tide for
Douglas as well as gaining for his Lordship a brilliant legal reputation.
His personal life was not without its personal tragedy though. He married beautiful,
accomplished Grace Farquharson. They had a son and two daughters but sadly, Grace
died giving birth to child number three. Arthur, his son, also died in childhood.
As he grew older he indulged his passion for writing and in 1773, published a massive
tome, Of the Origin and Progress of Man and Language , a study of evolution
predating Darwinian theory. Remarking on the humanoid features of the orang utang,
then a little known primate, Monboddo daringly suggested that the ape might be
related to humans. Anticipating Charles Darwin by generations, this offhand
observation made him a laughing stock. Unsurprisingly this and other offbeat ideas
afforded endless matter for jest by the wags of the day although nowadays they are
understood to be related to the theory of evolution. In Boswell: Journal of a Tour to
the Hebrides, Samuel Johnson says, We talked of the Ouran Outan and of Lord
Monboddo s thinking that he might be taught to speak. Dr. Johnson treated this with
ridicule and said, ..... it is as possible that the Ouran Outang does not speak, as that
Democratic And Republican Analysis
The election and how government officials are elected is vital to the United States
identity as a Democratic Republic. To fully understand whether the election is fair to
the average American citizen, these four things need to be looked at and understood;
the Democratic and Republican platforms and who the reader agrees with, the
procedure and requirements for getting on the ballot to be elected into the House of
Representatives, the many different parties of the United States, and the requirements
and procedures for running for president. After each of these questions are
acknowledged, it can be easily inferred that the current electionsystem that is in place,
is fair to American citizens.
When analyzing the differences between the platforms of the Democrats and
Republicans, there are six key issues that differ: wages, education, foreign policy,
gun laws, health care, and the size of government. The issue of wages is most
clearly seen in the issue of minimum wage in that Democrats believe that the current
minimum wage is a starvation wage and must be increased to a living wage. No one

The final and most universal platform of the Democratic party is the belief of the size
of the federal government, the federal government should have a strong role to
directly address the challenges faced by the American people, especially those
which pertain to the less privileged in American society ( Republicans vs.
Democrats Views on Government Size ). All in all, the Democratic party is

one side of the controversy are citizens of different states from all persons on the
opposing side. Id. To remove, there must be proof of complete diversity of the

Additionally, her husband was domiciled in California, and marriage caused no
change in domiciliary. There are no facts that suggest an alternative ruling is
proper. Similarly, Maloney has worked in Oakland for several decades as a senior

But, he occasionally visits corporate headquarters, but always returns to Oakland.
As ruled in Mas, domicile is determined by Maloney s true and fixed home and his

always intends to return to his home. Additionally, the longevity of his
employment suggests an attachment to the area. It is probable that the court will
hold that Malone is domiciled in California. International Life must demonstrate

Hamlet Acts Morally, Harms Others by his Actions, and...
Hamlet is Shakespeare s most famous work of tragedy. Throughout the play the title
character, Hamlet, tends to seek revenge for his father s death. Shakespeare achieved
his work in Hamlet through his brilliant depiction of the hero s struggle with two
opposing forces that hunt Hamlet throughout the play: moral integrity and the need to
avenge his father s murder. When Hamlet sets his mind to revenge his fathers death,
he is faced with many challenges that delay him from committing murder to his uncle
Claudius, who killed Hamlets father, the former king. During this delay, he harms
others with his actions by acting irrationally, threatening Gertrude, his mother, and by
killing Polonius which led into the madness and death of Ophelia.... Show more

That would be scann d A villain kills my father; and, for that, I, his sole son, do this
same villain send To heaven. (Act 3.3.74 79) Here, Hamlet shows despite his need
to revenge for his father, he is held back from his constant thought of his actions as
well as his moral considerations. It s been clearly stated that Hamlet has a strong
sense of heaven and hell; that he won t kill his uncle while praying, because he
thinks he might go to heaven. Hamlet himself doesn t want to kill his uncle without
being assured that he is guilty. This is why, by the end of the play, Claudius death
is something we applaud, regretting only that he was not killed sooner. The reason
of this delay is because of Hamlets moral triumph. His morality often keeps him from
acting; it makes him mull around in his uncertainty and anxiety, instead of just acting
and bringing his struggle to an end. Although Hamlet has thoughts on the moral
consequences of revenge, which is the cause of the delay to gain vengeance for his
father, he deceives others by his irritating actions. After threatening the queen in her
bedroom, telling her that she is not leaving the room until he knows that she is
innocent from his fathers death. Come, come, and sit you down; you shall not
budge: You go not, till I set you up a glass Where you may see the inmost part of
you. (Act 3.4.19 21) As Hamlet was threatening her, he hears a voice behind the
Radical Environmentalism Research Paper
As environmental issues continually enter into our view through the news and our
own personal research and interests we hear many stories about the good and bad
that is happening to our environment. The stories tell us about the efforts made to
clean up our rivers oceans and lake and maybe the problems that morally impact us to
clean them. There are many different responses to the negative, or what one would
perceive as negative, effects of our human impact on our environment. One such
response and environmental view is that of Radical Environmentalismwhich can be
associated with Eco terrorism. Even though Radical Environmentalism is a valid
view of the environment to hold, are the actions associated with the view necessary to

Radical Environmentalism is a branch of Grassroots that come from an ecocentric
view that is frustrated with modern environmentalism. They have the base view
that, human society , as it is now constituted, is utterly unsustainable and must be
reconstructed according to an entirely different socioeconomic logic and that a
sustainable society must be small in scale and modest and technology (Lewis 2).
Eco Terrorism is defined as acts of violence that are committed in support of
ecological and or environmental interests, against persons or property. Those
individuals and organizations that take part in eco terrorism reject the label eco
terrorist as a descriptive label for their tactics and prefer economic sabotage or
ecotage (Vanderheiden 426). Ecotage mentioned previously, are the acts that radical
environmentalist groups take against those things which don t comply with their
environmental views. These actions are sometime destructive to private property
and although not always directed to other people specifically, can be dangerous to
those participating and others. Activists viewed ecotage as economic warfare
against those who would destroy wilderness areas. By vandalizing equipment;
pulling up survey stakes; driving metal, ceramic or quartz spikes into trees, and so
on, practitioners hoped to halt the destruction by making it unprofitable (Taylor 14).

The Issue Of Immigration Is Become A Major Debate For...
The issue of immigration has become a major debate for everyone. Although people
argue over the negative impacts of immigrants living in America such as
overcrowding, less jobs due to immigrants taking them, drug trafficking, and
threatening of American culture, immigrants still have a huge impact in the
American society. The United Statesis by far the largest destination for immigrants,
annually receiving over a million legal immigrants and about seven hundred
thousand illegal immigrants. Many people come to the United States to get a better
life for themselves as well as for the education system for their children. Initially, the
United States received about sixty percent of the world s immigrants from 1820 to
1930. Population expansion in developed areas of the world, improved methods of
transportation, and America s desire to populate available space were all factors for
this occurrence. Through the nineteenth century, the United States was in the midst
of agricultural, and industrial expansion. The aspiration for inexpensive, unskilled
labor and the profits made from importing immigrants fueled the movement.
Immigrants were largely responsible for the rapid development of the country and
the economy, their high birth rates increased the U.S. population. Over twelve
million immigrants infiltrated the United States of America from 1892 to 1954
through a small island in New York Harbor called Ellis Island. Throughout the years,
Ellis Island served as a gateway for

Innovation Is The Driving Force Of America
Innovation is the driving force of America: advancing knowledge, generating
products and processes that all contribute to the nation s standard of living, health
and safety (Committee on Research Universities, Board on Higher Education and

nearly 300 years after the first American Universitywas established before research
was proposed, today, research serves an essential role in the university system.
Research is performed in a variety of methods and exists across all educational fields
across the university and the benefits of research abound not only for students, but
for university faculty and the nation as a whole. Although undergraduate research is
viewed as a relatively new initiative in the university, students have been researching
at this level longer than we think: since around the early 1900s.
Background
Albert Einstein is quoted as saying If we knew what it was we were doing, it would
not be called research, would it? Questions proliferate in everyday thought. These
questions, no matter the context, can be considered the first step of research. Asking
questions, developing a method, and discovering answers are the basis of research.
Research has been defined repeatedly throughout history; nevertheless to this day
different disciplines define it in a variety of ways. Oftentimes research is assumed
synonymous with science, such as the definition provided by the American

It also gave some indication of the wealth and prosperity of the monastery and, inside,
would probably commemorate patrons who provided sustained support to the
community. The most precious human remains in a monastic church were the relics
of saints preserved in shrines behind the high altar. The Church became a center for
learning, with the monks becoming cultural carriers transmitting the written treasures
of the past by preserving and copying ancient texts. An example of this would be
Hrotsvit. Hrotsvit wrote books about Christian legends and wrote Roman dramas with
an Christian spin to it. Often, the only literate members of society were the monks

I moved to South Korea to teach in a private academy, and in that setting, I realized

My Wedding Day In My Family
Chapter 7
~~~~~ ***** ~~~~~
I woke up and found myself on my bed. I was having a small headache. Throughout
the entire week, I was working on my assignments for school and I was also working
on the day care centre. Today is my wedding day so I also had to get my wedding
dress and man; I was so busy in the week days. I am kind of glad that our wedding is
on the weekend.
I got out of the bed and went to the washroom and got freshened. I came out of the
washroom and heard the door knock. Juni, I got your wedding dress. Open the door.
I heard sis say.
I sighed and opened the door, finding sis looking excited and she was holding my
wedding dress. Even though, I went with her to choose the wedding dress, I really
didn t pay any attention when sis was choosing my wedding dress. I mean, we are
only getting married because of the twins and I never even wanted to get married.
So, why would I have any interest in choosing my wedding dress?
I let sis come in my room and she hugged me and then pushed me in the washroom,
giving me my wedding dress.
Juni, get dress so that we can do your make up. Sis said. I sighed and wore my
wedding dress that was silver and it was a mermaid wedding dress style.
After a couple of hours . . .
Don t open your eyes yet, I heard my makeup artist say. She was doing my eye make
up, while some other hair dresser was doing my hair. Now, slowly open your eyes.
My makeup artist said.
I opened my eyes and looked at the mirror they placed in front of me and I couldn t
believe my eyes. I was wearing a simple mermaid silver wedding dress, a bit of make
up and my long hair was tied in a simple bun. I was wearing a silver necklace and a
pair of long silver earrings. I couldn t believe that I looked that pretty.
My Juni looks beautiful. Sis said as she hugged me. She had waters in her eyes.
I turned around and whipped her tears. Sis? Why are you crying?
I am really happy for you. I m happy that you are getting married but I always
thought of you as my own sister. I will be so lonely without you in this house. I will
miss you. Sis said as she hugged me.
I will miss you too. I said as I hugged her back.
Whaling In Japan Research Paper
Japan is one of the few countries that support the practice whaling. For decades, the
country has continued to maintain its right to whale and shown aggressively
lobbying with the International Whaling Commission (IWC) for reconsideration of
commercial whaling. Commercial whaling is a practice that involves the hunting and
killing whales for their oil meat, or whalebone. With their pro stance on whaling,
Japan has faced strong international criticism especially from environmentalists and
Western governments, which view Japan as obstructing international efforts to
protect these mammals. This paper will argue that Japan should not be forced to
remove the practice of commercial whaling in order to satisfy the international views.
This is because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even with the court ruled decision by the IWC, the opponents felt that it was not
as decisive as they would have hoped for. The IWC has defended most of Japan s
whaling insisting to those that oppose that the research is solely for research
implying that the majority of whales killed by Japan are taken in an internationally
designated haven, which Japan has chosen to ignore (MacKenzie). The idea of the
Whale Wars is likely to continue by animal rights activist and anti whaling
governments. The United Nation s International Court of Justice (ICJ) later ruled
that Japan s scientific research program JARPA II was not what it was suppose to
be. This ruling has also barred Japan from whaling in the Antarctic (MacKenzie).
This ruling momentarily stopped Japan vessels from whaling. In June of 2014, the
Prime Minister in Japan Shinzo Abe, showed defiance of the International Courts
ruling as he was quoted in say to aim for resumption of commercial whaling by
conducting whaling research in order to obtain scientific date indispensable for the
management of whale, which is essentially saying Japan will continue to kill whales
until it is proven that it is okay to kill whales (Hays). The statements made by the
Prime Minister were viewed as disappointment. Greenpeace
Zen Short Story Analysis
Karl climbs up on top of Stillwater s back and demonstrates what he would do to his
bossy brother by angrily jumping into a pool. Later on, when drinking tea,
Stillwater reflects that Karl, having been upset with his sibling the whole day, didn
t even notice the fun they had been having. Karl then realizes that his temper had
gotten ahold of him and he thinks about the time that he could ve been spending in
a more carefree manner instead. The story follows three siblings, Addy, Michael,
and Karl, as they befriend a panda named Stillwater who teaches them
philosophical lessons that are tailored to the children s individual lives. If all of
the books in the world were destroyed except one, the collection of fictional short
stories Zen Shorts by Jon J. Muth should be preserved because it delves into the
importance of belongings, how to understand that one s perspective influences an
interpretation of a situation and when to let go of emotions that are in the way of
personal contentment. When Addy visits Stillwater s house, she finds him in a tent
in his backyard. Stillwater explains to Addy that his Uncle Ry gives gifts to others
on his own birthday and the tent was Stillwater s present. Addy reveals a cake that
she d baked for them to share. Stillwater is delighted and in return tells the young
The Low Calorie Frozen Microwaveable Food Company
Introduction
This is a follow up to the previous two assignments for the low calorie frozen
microwaveable food company and how the company wants to expand and make long
term budgeting decisions. With facing increases in costs and also the expansion this
assignment will answer the basic questions for review about what the company can
do to be able to move ahead with these challenges and come out profitable.
Pricing strategies for making a change in this microwaveable low calories frozen food
would be to look at the basics of pricing strategies and the market mix. To create a
pricing strategy, the company needs to take into account the target group and the
willingness to pay for the product to make sure that the market segmentation and
where the price is going to be set at, should be a key point in determining the
anticipated rate of price since the product in itself is elastic in nature. Being an elastic
company means that the company has flexibility, the ability to meet fluctuations and
unplanned changes to demand the potential to take on more contracts and not forfeit
seasonal work, financial stability, accounting for fluctuations in a far more
controlled way, increase work flow without jeopardizing SLAs or impeding
regulatory standards, improved staff efficiencies from well organized working
conditions (retrieved Logistics Transport Focus, 16(11), 56 57.) By this the change in
price will not necessarily cause a huge change in the quantity of demand by the
consumers,
Country 1 Writing Assignment Dance Attended: Friday April 28th County Dance
in WB112 Fundraiser for OSU Equestrian team 7:45 11:00pm Attending this dance
was quite a memorable experience. I went with some ballroom dance friends and
my friend Mary, who is in Country 1 with me. I didn t realize it was a fundraiser
until I asked the people checking it in what the funds went toward; it was
wonderful to learn that the OSU equestrian was raising money for a national
competition. There were only a few people when we arrived, but as the night pushed
on, the gym filled up and the floor was full of people in cowboy boots. Some people
did come to the dance slightly intoxicated, but not so much that they weren t able to
dance properly. Another interesting thing is that many ballroom dancers, who are on
the technique team with me, are very good at country dancing and go to almost all of
the Country Dance Club events!... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first guy I danced swing with did a lift and dip that I was not prepared for, but
it was super fun and exhilarating! One thing I noticed is that having a good lead
who has a little more experience country dancing makes dancing very fun. I danced
Schottische with both Andrews in our Country 1 class. Andrew and I taught some
ballroom students how to do Schottische, and it wasn t as hard to teach as I thought
it would be! Schottische is probably my favorite non line dance. The line dances
were my favorite part, and will continue to be my favorite part of the country
dances. I learned a lot of new ones and taught the ones I did know to my ballroom
dance friends. I loved watching people dance the more complex line dances and get
so into it! Wild Wild West is especially fun to watch because it is a little different
Causes Of Minority Incarceration
There are many different causes for the disproportionate minority male
incarceration rates in the U.S. There is irrefutable evidence that blacks comprise a
disproportionate share of the prison U.S population.The United States cannot and
should not tolerate laws that systematically target communities of color. 1.6
million children have a father in prison.The war on drugs , racial profiling, and the
school to prison to pipeline system is causing minority males to be incarcerated. A
solution to reduce the male minority incarceration rate is programs such as HOPE ,
that help black youth and men create goals and find something to do with
life.African Americans are incarcerated six times the rate of whites. Some
contributing factors are the Get Tough on crime and war on drugs policies , the zero
tolerance policies at school adverse affect on black children African Americans
The Effects Of Fitbit Brand On People s Health
Fitbit Over the years, there has been a significant increase of individuals who are
seeking to live healthier lives. These individuals have been looking for a device to
help them get on track with their goals of losing weight, and becoming healthier. Of
course, there are pedometers to track steps, and cell phone apps to help manage
diets, but it seems that there have been no improvements on people s health. So
when none of these things were working, the creators of the Fitbit got together and
created a device that would once and for all help the people who are wanting to
improve their lifestyle.The new and hot trendy item of technology is here to help
Americans become healthier, and live betterlives. The Fitbit Flex, Charge, and Surge
have become the new trend over the past few years as Americans seek to be
healthier. The Fitbit brand has been proven to be one of the most trendy and
accurate pieces of technology, and is certainly looking to keep loyal customers on
their feet with continuous upgrades to the device. In 2014, Fitbit created its first ever
Fitbit, the Flex. The flex was designed to encourage users to improve their health by
having a braceletthat would track their steps, distance traveled and calories burned.
The Fitbit Flex not only synced wirelessly to Iphone users, but to the newer android
phones as well. With the 4.0 bluetooth, this watchcould sync to any phone, as well as
any computer, making users fitness goals easy to access. After renovations to
Adapting to a Long Term Care Facility Essay
The character Dorothy said in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, there is no place like
home (Baum, 1960, p. 45). Sadly, many of our elderly live in Long Term Care
Facilities (LTCF). The transition from living in their own homes, to living in a
LTCF, can be a traumatic experience. Poor adaptation to a LTCF may cause
depression, malnutrition and significantly reduce the lifespan of the elder. Thus, it is
imperative, that nurse s recognize this promptly. According to Agnes and Guralnik
(2008) adaptation is a gradual change in behavior to conform to the prevailing
cultural pattern (p. 15). When elders are placed in a LTCF, whether it be voluntarily
or involuntarily, they must give up certain liberties that are taken for granted. This...
160). She goes on to say that adaptation to a LTCF is the process by which
someone copes with the transition into the life of being a LTCF client (p.159).
How the elders view their situation also plays a major role on their adaptation to the
LTCF. When someone views the environment in an absolute negative way, they are
going to struggle to become adapted. On the other hand, if they look at the
positives of the environment they may adapt more appropriately. According to
Sister Callista Roy s theory, adaptation is the process and outcome of individuals
and groups, who use conscious awareness, self reflection and choice to create
human and environmental integration (Bergland and Kirkevold, 2006, p.686). This
theory lends to adaptation of living in a LTCF by examining a key issue, the elders
choice. With personal experience in this matter, it seems as if elders who make the
decision of moving into a LTCF better adapt to the environment. In my opinion, a lot
of how elders adapt to living in a LTCF depends on the choices they make. If they sit
around, and think poor pitiful me, they will have a much harder time adapting to their
new environment. If the elder becomes engaged in their new environment, they will
adapt more efficiently. As Parker (2013) mentioned, she stays heavily involved in
activities that the LTCF provides, but also performs a multitude of other activities in
her apartment
Keeping Conflict Constructive Summary
In the video series Keeping Conflict Constructive, Michael Roberto suggests a
variety of approaches to diagnosing whether a debate is becoming unproductive.
School leaders or team leaders in charge of keeping debates constructive should pay
particular attention to the attitudes, words, and non verbal actions of each member
within the group. Roberto suggests looking for people who are no longer asking
questions in order to gain a better understanding of the issue at hand or the insights of
others (The Teaching Company, 2009). This, to me, would hint that the participant
being studied has likely committed to a stance or decision and is ready to move on.
Roberto also suggests that a debatehas become unproductive if no one is searching
for new information (The Teaching Company, 2009). To me, this would become
evident if each person repeatedly refers to their own beliefs, assumptions, or research.
Another interesting and significant aspect to look for and evaluate is withdrawal
(The Teaching Company, 2009). Looking for people who are less inclined to argue
and don t show the same commitment or enthusiasm they once did could signal that...
In this regard, the most influential aspects that spoke to me were to remain diligent
in establishing ground rules for behavior or setting norms, and designating and
clarifying roles for each group member. These ideals are not new and have also
been encouraged in a wide variety of other educational texts which promote
methods for using collaborative groups in the workplace. Robert Garmston tells
readers that the typical roles in a group are the engaged participant, the facilitator,
the recorder, the role authority, and citizen facilitator. He goes on to suggest the
rotation of facilitator and recorder roles (Garmston, 2012), thus helping every
participant to feel as if they have a voice and is able to
Disadvantages Of Java GUI
Hello, Mr. Adam, Classmates and Readers of this post
To be sincere, if we should really discuss the advantages of Java GUI, most
especially with demonstrations, then we would discuss for a week. And if we
should explicitly put the advantages into paper, we would write a book. The
advantages are huge, tremendous, positively describable in an unlimited way. Unless
we pack the advantages into firms and individuality advantages, then, discussing it
will be simple. I will be using this post to demonstrate that the advantages of a Java
GUI lead to remarkable easiness and high productivity. As usual, I will start with a
common sense literal analogy.
Java GUI Advantages for Firms (Company or Producers)
The easiness to build a GUI using java is one of the most beneficial for firms and
programmer. For instance, in Java programming building a button control that is
customizable to meet look and feel can be done with a very few line of statements.
Complexity to Simplicity is another great advantage of Java GUI for firms or
programmers. A very complex description of an object can be packed as a single
During the year 1933, the narrator was born in Calcutta, India and was bound for a
Labor is also divided among household members by sex and age, but few tasks are
allowed to only one sex or one age. Domestic tasks are mainly done by woman and
girls. They prepare food, wash and mend cloth, and do spinning and weaving. The
men and boys provide the wood and the water. They also participate in the repairs of
the equipment and their tents. The general level of nutrition and hygene among the
basseri is quite high. They are relatively healthy and robust, which contributes to a
high fertility rate in females of the tribe.The average of children a woman can have
varies from three to five.
Among the Baseri, each household has from 6 to 12 donkeys, and less than 100
sheep and goats. Since their herds are very important to them they spend great
amount of time tending them. Sometimes two to five tents may combine their flock
and entrust them to a single shepherded. The shepherd is always a male and he is
occupied with the flock all day .
During the winter, groups of two or five tents associated in herding units make up
local camps that separate each tent three or four kilometers. At other time of the year
the camps are larger and usually number ten to forty tents. The members of the camp
are very clearly founded social group and their relationships to each other are
continuing neighbors. The maintance of the camp as a social unit requires daily
Essay On Linear Regression
From Table 8 and Table 3, we were quickly able to identify that the regression
assumptions were not going to be satisfied and that our dependent variable needed
transforming. Looking at the plot in figure 8, we could see that the residuals of
the predictions were not following a straight line. This indicated that linear
regression was not suitable for the data. This led us to transforming the worldwide
box office revenue variable as shown in Table 9. Figures 4 7 showed that the
transformed variable made a huge difference. The linear regression assumptions
were satisfied and the residual plots indicated the residuals followed a linear
pattern. Considering Tables 10 13, we were able to find the best variables for the
regression model at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accuracies of around 80% 81% were obtained and this showed that the linear
regression model was strong. It is clear that transforming the dependent variable
has a key role in why the linear regression prediction accuracies are quite high.
Considering that only pre release data was used to predict the worldwide box
office revenue and the best model had three independent variables, it is a very high
accuracy and shows how effective linear regression can be. Table 16 and 17
displays the results of the SVM prediction models. The same three variables that
were used to predict the worldwide box office revenue was used again in the SVM
algorithm. The results obtained from the models were slightly better than the
linear regression models. SVM is more advanced then linear regression so it is not
unexpected that SVM has given us a higher accuracy. The SVM models did not
exceed the accuracy of the regression by much. The accuracies of the SVM models
ranged from 81% 83%. Nevertheless the accuracies of the models predicting the
worldwide box office revenues are impressive and shows movie studios how effective
pre release data is. From Table 18, we have a good idea as to how Random Forest
performs when predicting the success of movies. The accuracies of the various
regression models indicate that the accuracies range form 82 85.71%. As there are 2
The Concentration Of Water Molecules
INTRODUCTION: Water is an essential thing for life. The earth and the entire living
organism are made of water. A water molecule goes from high concentrated solution
to a lower concentrated solution to try to equalize the concentration. The water
molecules are always moving, and the rate of the movement depends on the
concentrationgradient. The bigger the difference in concentration the faster the
molecules move down the concentration gradient. To figure out what diffusion was, I
used the book and my notes from the lecture. There are three types of diffusion:
Hypertonic, Hypotonic and Isotonic. The Hypertonic solutionhas a higher
concentration of NaCl. The Hypotonic solution has less concentration of NaCl. The
Isotonic solution has about the same NaCl content and the blood cell. Based on the
facts that water molecules are always moving from a high concentrated to low
concentrated gradient, the water molecules will move out of the red blood cells
when placed in hypertonic solution and will swell up when placed in the hypotonic
solution. In the Isotonic solution, the blood cell remains the same because they have
the same concentration gradient. The reason for this experiment was to see how the
blood cells react with different solutions. These solutions will be our variables, which
will change during this lab course. Which of these solutions have different outcomes,
so my hypothesis will probably be different for each solution. I predicted that the
Caribbean Piracy
Piracy of the Caribbean It seems to be common knowledge that murder, thievery,
and full blown naval warfare supposedly plagued the Caribbean Sea from the 1600
s to the 1800 s. Countless tons of priceless goods such as spices, gems, rare metals,
and silks were snatched right from under merchant noses (Hanna 42). Goods that
were the basis of Triangle Trade economies, goods such as sugar, tobacco, weapons,
cotton, and sadly the lives of enslaved humans (which were considered commodities
and goods), were being spirited away at the great misfortune of the commercial based
nations (Lane). National tensions were climbing higher and higher. Allegedly this
could all be blamed upon piracy, buccaneering, and privateering being at an all time
high; this earned the time period the monomer of The Golden Age of Piracy
(Benjamin). And yet, despite all the terror and disorder previously descried, these
pirates generally had a considerably better effect (maybe even a net good effect) on
The New York Stock Exchange Crash Of 1929
The open market in the United States allows for many individuals and businesses to
develop and grow their capital so long as financial regulation is handled properly.
Proper regulation of loans allows for reasonable restriction towards speculation and
encourages business expansion. When regulation is loosely held the economy suffers
from misrepresentation of loans and broker ignorance. This can be represented
through the New York Stock Exchangecrash of 1929, which holds many similarities to
the events leading to and after the United States subprime mortgage crisis. Increased
popularity of on margin loans almost directly correlate to the subprime mortgages
that were made widely available in the first decade of the twenty first century.
Brokers and loan originators, who fabricated on margin and subprime mortgage
loans, increased country wide economic risk by encouraging individuals to accept
monetary burdens they could not possibly afford. Also, as individuals continued to
purchase on credit, a market economic bubble was formed. Once this bubble popped
the Dow Jones, what individuals typically look to for market value, suffered a
massive decrease in values. Each market crash displayed these occurrences, which
can be correlated to one another.
On Margin Subprime Mortgages
The popularity of on margin stock purchases and subprime mortgages increased prior
to each economic meltdown. The 1920 era was a time of confidence and enthusiasm
because of the market s economic success.
The Legacy Of Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was born April 13, 1743, in Shadwell, Virginia. His mother was
Jane Randolph Jefferson, his father was Peter Jefferson, and he was the third of ten
children. As a child he liked to explore in the woods, play the violin, and read. In
1757 he started attending a private school run by Reverend William Douglas and
Reverend James Maury in which he studied Latin, Greek, mathematics, and
literature. After studying there for three years he went to The College of William
and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He studied there for three years, and then
studied law under Wythe for five years. In 1767 he won admission to Virginia Bar.
From 1767 through 1764 he practiced law. He took up many cases and won a large
majority of them. During that time he also met and married Martha Wayles Skelton,
and they had six children together, only two of which lived until adulthood. Jefferson
s political career began in 1768 when he was elected to the House of Burgesses where
he promoted America s independence from England. He also wrote his first major
political composition, A Summary View of the Rights of British America which
gained him the reputation as the most eloquent writer of the American cause. In 1775
he attended the Second Continental Congress In June of 1776 Congress put Jefferson
with a five man committee composed of himself, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin,
Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston to draft the Declaration of Independence.
Episodic Memory And Reconstructive Memory Analysis
Memory as a whole is often broken down into smaller more specialized components,
The focus of this essay will be on declarative memory, which is a form of long term
memory that requires conscious retrieval of previously learned information, and the
subcategories semantic memory and episodic memory. Episodic memoryconsists of
personal experiences and as such includes autobiographical memories of the self.
Semantic memoryis primarily composed of generalized factual information. As both
episodic and semantic memory are as stated earlier examples of long term memory,
they are as such subject to changes over time, due to vulnerability to forgetting.
involvement of gist based memory as opposed to associative activation. Fuzzy trace
theory includes mention of recollection rejection, a type of monitoring process,
whereby specific, vivid details from the episodic memory may suppress the ability to
create false memories. Brainerd, Reyna, Wright, and Mojardin (2003) supported this
as they found that verbatim memory traces of actual events could be triggered by gist
consistent events, thereby suppressing the false
Wollstonecraft s Vindication Of The Rights Of Women
There are strong contrasting views on the concept of education and relation when
reading Wollstonecraft s Vindication of the Rights of Women, Rousseau s Second
Discourse, and The Analects of Confucius. While Wollstonecraft and Confucius have
similar views on the necessity of education to achieve virtue, Rousseau views
education as a source of corruption and vice.
In Wollstonecraft s Vindication of the Right of Women education is a tool used to
gain freedom and be proactive in determining one s fate. Wollstonecraft states that it
is a farce to call any being virtuous whose virtues do not result from the exercise of
its own reason (12). This means that in the eyes of Wollstonecraft is being proactive
in determining your fate, which she considers a virtue. However, the only way to
control your fate is to educate themselves about the society they live in(11). Through
this education one is able to come to their on conclusions on what is right, and
wrong as well as define virtues for themselves. With this freedom an individual has
the ability to lay laws upon themselves and follow them, which Wollstonecraft
considered a great virtue. This relationship between virtue and education greatly
contributes to her belief that women should be able to receive an education like that
of a man. For Wollstonecraft education equates to freedom and freedom to determine
one s life is virtuous. However, under oppressive patriarchy women are restricted
from receiving equal education, which in
Cultural Capital Needed For Gain Upward Social Mobility
As a student from a working class background, I did not have access to the type of
cultural capital needed to gain upward social mobility. For example, I come from a
family that has had no formal education beyond high school and so I was without the
knowledge of how to gain access into the realm of higher education. My family had
never gone through the application process and so they did not know how to access
and utilize the collegehelp that my school provided. Also, my high schoolonly had
fourteen counselors available to provide assistance to the 4,263 students that
attended the school (Illinois Report Card 2010). This counselor to student ration
meant that not much time could be devoted to each student to give them the help
they needed to navigate the complex college application system (Civil Rights Data
2009, Illinois Report Card 2010). During my time in high school, I never actually
spoke to any of the counselors about college plans and I was not even aware that they
could help in that area. In the following sections I detail how the cultural capital
borrowed or learned from scholarship programs and cultural mentors ultimately
impact a student s upward mobility most.
Exclusive scholarship programs can act as a tool that helps move a working class
student beyond the achievement levels of their parents. These programs do so by
exposing students to privileged knowledge, skills, and strategies that they would not
access to otherwise. Lareau and Horvat define these types
The Use Of Meth On The Black Market And Manufacture It
For...
To meet the ever increasing demand for this drug, users have found a way to
reproduce meth on the black market and manufacture it for sale. It is mostly
produced in illegal facilities all over the country and the world, that have dangerous
conditions. These black market type facilities are known as Meth production labs.
The chemicals used to reproduce the drugs can kill people if it explodes. It can cause
damage to surrounding buildings and even hurt innocent people around them that live
nearby. In most recent years, moving mobile meth labs are used on the street to
reproduce this drug, in cars, trucks and other vehicles to hide their illegal growing
activities.
The easy process of making and producing Methamphetamine is a simple process,
when compared to the manufacturing and growing of other recreational drugs. It is
more popular among many groups of people as the drug of choice to reproduce all
over the nation and the world. As a result of the popularity of meth production, local,
state and national governments along with drug task forces work around the clock,
non stop to keep up on the crackdown of meth production and to shut down these
illegal meth labs that will produce and ship this particular drug. With impacts that can
be particularly damaging to human life, drug task forces and government agencies
have a war on their hands and it seems like it is getting out of hand as they try to fight
against this daily. With almost 11 million Americans admitting they
Pro Forma Earnings Report
1.INTRODUCTION
Pro forma earnings are earnings which often exclude non recurring items and are
defined by each individual firm rather than under the general accepted accounting
principle (GAAP). Pro forma earnings reporting is commonplace in the U.S. (Doyle
et al. 2013; Bentley et al. 2016). Items such as nonrecurring gains and losses,
depreciation and amortization expenses, write downs, restructuring and merger costs,
stock compensation expenses, and interest expenses are often excluded in pro forma
earnings figures. Since many of these exclusions are likely to be transitory in nature,
pro forma earnings can be viewed as a better measure of permanent earnings and
have received increasing focus recently. Research studies found that pro forma
earnings are more value relevant, informative, and better associated with stock prices
than GAAP earnings (Bradshaw and Sloan, 2002; Bhattacharya et al.,2003; Brown
and Sivakumar, 2003; Entwistle et al., 2010). However, exclusion of the non
recurring items is completely discretionary (Doyle et al., 2013) and managers may
use the flexibility to opportunistically influence the market s perception of the firm s
recurring earnings (Dechow and Schrand, 2004). Managers may have strong
incentives to manipulate the reported pro forma earnings to influence investors
perceptions about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This study investigates whether managers opportunistically round up the reported pro
Effects Of World War I Ended On The 1920s
When World War I ended on November 11, 1918, President Warren G. Harding
proposed a return to normalcy . This promised a return of the United States prewar
mentality, without the thought of war contaminating the minds of the American
people. With this in mind, the 1920s began but Americans in the 1930s witnessed
dramatic changes in their lives from the 1920s. The 1920s was a period of
prosperity and economic success, while the 1930s was a time of economic downfall.
The economy fluctuated between times of great prosperity and times of undoubtable
depression. Following these economic downturns was a period of rigorous attempts
to recover from severe economic loss. It did not take long for this economic hardship
to lead to some more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They contributed to society with innovations in music and literature that promoted
the cultural growth of America in the 1920s. Also, this helped feed the Harlem
Renaissance , a cultural movement that spanned the 1920s in which black art,
literature, and music experienced renewal and growth, originating in New York
City s Harlem district. It was a period of great achievement by African American
writers, poets, artists, and performers. Similarly, the 1930s was occupied by the
ability of African Americans to get jobs on Works Progress Administration projects
because discrimination was banned by Executive Order 7046. During this time, a
multitude of African Americans received wages from the WPA twice as much as
their prior earnings. Another program that aided African Americans was Harold Icke
s Public Works Administration. This program provided to black tenants a more than
fair share of the public housing it built. Additionally, Ickes utilized the quota system
by Public Works Administration to hire African Americans in proportion to their
numbers in local workforce (Document 8b). All in all, the two decades emphasized
how there was an encouragement of minorities. Moreover, multiple new occupations
were opening for middle class women. Once they got out of schools and colleges,
they dove into all manner
Cosmos Plant Hydration Lab Report
The graphs and data shows the progression of the Cosmos plant while being hydrated
with three different solutions: water, lemon, and baking soda. They all have different
pH levels and affect the rate of growth. The quantitative data shows the height of the
plants. Based on the data table, the water or neutral pH had the most height, then
lemon juice, and lastly the baking soda mixture. The baking soda mixture left the
plants dead after the fourteenth day of the experiment. The data shows that each plant
grew from 1 2.5 inches everytime they were checked. This can be represented by
trial one of water when the sprout grew from 3.5 inches to 5 inches. Based on the
qualitative data, the baking soda plants showed little growth and progressively...
The Cosmos flower was used to test this. Water has a neutral pH which is generally
the best substance for any type of plant to grow and be healthy. However, the
Cosmos also grows well when hydrated with a more acidic substance. When
hydrated with a substance that is more of abase, it will not grow successfully,
which is proven by the data since they died after the third check and became wilted.
The hypothesis was not proven because the plants watered with the acidic lemon
juice grew more successfully than base substance, which was predicted to keep the
plants healthy. The tallest plants that grew was hydrated with water and was 13
inches tall and the shortest living plant was hydrated with the baking soda solution
and was 2 inches tall. The control of this experiment was the plant, the Cosmos
Bipinnatus because it did not change. The amount of time passed in days was
changing, which makes it the independent variable. The dependent variable was the
height of the plant, along with its overall health. After composing the procedure, it
was observed that the measurements were off, which was an experimental error. The
mixture between baking and water was too thick and did not saturate the soil. This
could have caused the plants to die more quickly and the pH may not have affected
the data as much if it weren t for this
Symbolism In Mansfield Park
Mansfield Park, written by Jane Austen, is a literary classic full of symbolism. One
such symbol is that of gardening and landscaping, two highly important factors to
the family in this novel. The characters throughout the novel seem distressed at
times about this factor in their lives. But why is gardening and such trivial things of
such grass and landscaping? Eighteenth century landowners spent a great deal of
time and money remaking the grounds of their estates (Olsen 316). There were
many reasons on why these upper class people worried so much about this and there
were many ways that Austen showed this need for approval and used it to exemplify
her characters. Yet, Austen uses the shrubbery and the aspects of nature to reflect her
diverse and complexing characters in many of her novels. The symbolism of nature
is a mirror to how the characters, and humanity, truly are. In Mansfield Park...nature
rather than landscape tends to be emphasized and frequently related to a character s
mood or state of mind (Baker 541). Fanny has a more religious tone throughout the
noveland her beliefs affect her crucially. Fanny is at one end of the spectrum, whilst
Mary is at the other. Fanny exemplifies the Christian mind s seeking after God s
divine invisible things though the [visible] things he made in the natural world
(Tarpley 165). Fanny s beliefs put her on one end, which puts Mary, her opposition, at
the end. In Mansfield Park, Austen typically contrasts Fanny s response
  • 1. Education Essay Writing an essay on the broad topic of education can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the vastness and complexity of the subject matter. Education encompasses a wide range of aspects, including philosophy, history, psychology, sociology, pedagogy, and more. Crafting a comprehensive essay requires a deep understanding of these facets and the ability to synthesize information from various sources. One of the challenges is determining the focus of the essay. Education is a multifaceted field, and choosing a specific aspect or issue to explore can be daunting. Moreover, staying objective while discussing different educational philosophies or controversial topics can be tricky, as one must navigate through diverse perspectives with nuance and balance. Research is another key hurdle. To produce a well-informed essay, one needs to delve into academic journals, books, and reliable online sources. Navigating through the sea of information and critically evaluating sources to ensure credibility adds an extra layer of complexity. Structuring the essay poses yet another challenge. Balancing an introduction, thesis statement, body paragraphs, and a conclusion while maintaining coherence and logical flow requires careful planning. Moreover, finding the right words to express complex ideas in a clear and concise manner can be demanding. Lastly, the ever-evolving nature of education means staying updated on the latest research and developments. This necessitates constant revision and refinement of the essay to ensure its relevance.   • 2. William 18th Century Edinburgh s Court Of Session Lord Monboddo, one of the most respected, eminent Judges at 18th century Edinburgh s Court of Session, was definitely an oddball, passionately devoted to the ways of the Ancient Greeks and disapproving of anything he considered modern. As a result he lived simply, because if the Ancient Greeks didn t use it, neither did he Brilliant lawyer, philosopher, leading figure in the Scottish Enlightenment and a striking, complex, flamboyant character to boot. Not bad for a laddie who started his education at Laurencekirk primary school. Born James Burnett in October 1714 to a minor laird in Monboddo, Kincardineshire, an estate described by James Boswell during his travels with Dr Johnson as a wretched place, wild and naked with a poor old ... When the case was finally to be decided before the bench, the new Lord gave a blisteringly powerful closing argument when it looked to all that the case was lost. They should have known better. Monboddo s five hour speech turned the tide for Douglas as well as gaining for his Lordship a brilliant legal reputation. His personal life was not without its personal tragedy though. He married beautiful, accomplished Grace Farquharson. They had a son and two daughters but sadly, Grace died giving birth to child number three. Arthur, his son, also died in childhood. As he grew older he indulged his passion for writing and in 1773, published a massive tome, Of the Origin and Progress of Man and Language , a study of evolution predating Darwinian theory. Remarking on the humanoid features of the orang utang, then a little known primate, Monboddo daringly suggested that the ape might be related to humans. Anticipating Charles Darwin by generations, this offhand observation made him a laughing stock. Unsurprisingly this and other offbeat ideas afforded endless matter for jest by the wags of the day although nowadays they are understood to be related to the theory of evolution. In Boswell: Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides, Samuel Johnson says, We talked of the Ouran Outan and of Lord Monboddo s thinking that he might be taught to speak. Dr. Johnson treated this with ridicule and said, ..... it is as possible that the Ouran Outang does not speak, as that
  • 3. Democratic And Republican Analysis The election and how government officials are elected is vital to the United States identity as a Democratic Republic. To fully understand whether the election is fair to the average American citizen, these four things need to be looked at and understood; the Democratic and Republican platforms and who the reader agrees with, the procedure and requirements for getting on the ballot to be elected into the House of Representatives, the many different parties of the United States, and the requirements and procedures for running for president. After each of these questions are acknowledged, it can be easily inferred that the current electionsystem that is in place, is fair to American citizens. When analyzing the differences between the platforms of the Democrats and Republicans, there are six key issues that differ: wages, education, foreign policy, gun laws, health care, and the size of government. The issue of wages is most clearly seen in the issue of minimum wage in that Democrats believe that the current minimum wage is a starvation wage and must be increased to a living wage. All in all, the Democratic party is progressive in most aspects and believe in a fair
In Strawbridge v. Curtiss, the court held that there must be complete diversity. Strawbridge V. Curtiss, 7 U.S. 267, 267 (1806). The court stated there is complete diversity only when all the persons on one side of the controversy are citizens of different states from all persons on the opposing side. Id.   • 5. Hamlet Acts Morally, Harms Others by his Actions, and... Hamlet is Shakespeare s most famous work of tragedy. Throughout the play the title character, Hamlet, tends to seek revenge for his father s death. Shakespeare achieved his work in Hamlet through his brilliant depiction of the hero s struggle with two opposing forces that hunt Hamlet throughout the play: moral integrity and the need to avenge his father s murder. When Hamlet sets his mind to revenge his fathers death, he is faced with many challenges that delay him from committing murder to his uncle Claudius, who killed Hamlets father, the former king. During this delay, he harms others with his actions by acting irrationally, threatening Gertrude, his mother, and by killing Polonius which led into the madness and death of Ophelia.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That would be scann d A villain kills my father; and, for that, I, his sole son, do this same villain send To heaven. (Act 3.3.74 79) Here, Hamlet shows despite his need to revenge for his father, he is held back from his constant thought of his actions as well as his moral considerations. It s been clearly stated that Hamlet has a strong sense of heaven and hell; that he won t kill his uncle while praying, because he thinks he might go to heaven. Hamlet himself doesn t want to kill his uncle without being assured that he is guilty. This is why, by the end of the play, Claudius death is something we applaud, regretting only that he was not killed sooner. The reason of this delay is because of Hamlets moral triumph. His morality often keeps him from acting; it makes him mull around in his uncertainty and anxiety, instead of just acting and bringing his struggle to an end. Although Hamlet has thoughts on the moral consequences of revenge, which is the cause of the delay to gain vengeance for his father, he deceives others by his irritating actions. After threatening the queen in her bedroom, telling her that she is not leaving the room until he knows that she is innocent from his fathers death. Come, come, and sit you down; you shall not budge: You go not, till I set you up a glass Where you may see the inmost part of you. Radical Environmentalism is a branch of Grassroots that come from an ecocentric view that is frustrated with modern environmentalism. They have the base view that, human society , as it is now constituted, is utterly unsustainable and must be reconstructed according to an entirely different socioeconomic logic and that a sustainable society must be small in scale and modest and technology (Lewis 2). Eco Terrorism is defined as acts of violence that are committed in support of ecological and or environmental interests, against persons or property. Those individuals and organizations that take part in eco terrorism reject the label eco terrorist as a descriptive label for their tactics and prefer economic sabotage or ecotage (Vanderheiden 426). Ecotage mentioned previously, are the acts that radical environmentalist groups take against those things which don t comply with their environmental views. These actions are sometime destructive to private property and although not always directed to other people specifically, can be dangerous to those participating and others. Activists viewed ecotage as economic warfare against those who would destroy wilderness areas. By vandalizing equipment; pulling up survey stakes; driving metal, ceramic or quartz spikes into trees, and so on, practitioners hoped to halt the destruction by making it unprofitable (Taylor 14). Groups known as the Earth Liberation Front or ELF and activists of Earth First! are such organizations. We will go into detail about ELF and Earth First! in a later
Although people argue over the negative impacts of immigrants living in America such as overcrowding, less jobs due to immigrants taking them, drug trafficking, and threatening of American culture, immigrants still have a huge impact in the American society. The United Statesis by far the largest destination for immigrants, annually receiving over a million legal immigrants and about seven hundred thousand illegal immigrants. Many people come to the United States to get a better life for themselves as well as for the education system for their children. Initially, the United States received about sixty percent of the world s immigrants from 1820 to 1930. Population expansion in developed areas of the world, improved methods of transportation, and America s desire to populate available space were all factors for this occurrence. Through the nineteenth century, the United States was in the midst of agricultural, and industrial expansion. The aspiration for inexpensive, unskilled labor and the profits made from importing immigrants fueled the movement. Immigrants were largely responsible for the rapid development of the country and the economy, their high birth rates increased the U.S. population. Over twelve million immigrants infiltrated the United States of America from 1892 to 1954 through a small island in New York Harbor called Ellis Island. Throughout the years, Ellis Island served as a gateway for
The most precious human remains in a monastic church were the relics of saints preserved in shrines behind the high altar. The Church became a center for learning, with the monks becoming cultural carriers transmitting the written treasures of the past by preserving and copying ancient texts. An example of this would be Hrotsvit. Hrotsvit wrote books about Christian legends and wrote Roman dramas with an Christian spin to it. Often, the only literate members of society were the monks /priest. It was the monks who made and transmitted written copies of the Bible and other ancient works from generation to generation. They organized some of the first libraries. They conducted scientific and other research to benefit the surrounding communities. I let sis come in my room and she hugged me and then pushed me in the washroom, giving me my wedding dress. Juni, get dress so that we can do your make up. Sis said. I sighed and wore my wedding dress that was silver and it was a mermaid wedding dress style. After a couple of hours . . . Don t open your eyes yet, I heard my makeup artist say. She was doing my eye make up, while some other hair dresser was doing my hair. Now, slowly open your eyes. My makeup artist said. I opened my eyes and looked at the mirror they placed in front of me and I couldn t believe my eyes. I was wearing a simple mermaid silver wedding dress, a bit of make up and my long hair was tied in a simple bun. I was wearing a silver necklace and a pair of long silver earrings. I couldn t believe that I looked that pretty. My Juni looks beautiful. Sis said as she hugged me. She had waters in her eyes. I turned around and whipped her tears. Sis? Why are you crying? I am really happy for you. I m happy that you are getting married but I always thought of you as my own sister. I will be so lonely without you in this house. I will miss you. Sis said as she hugged me. I will miss you too. I said as I hugged her back. Big brother came in the room with Clara and hugged me and kissed my forehead. My
For decades, the country has continued to maintain its right to whale and shown aggressively lobbying with the International Whaling Commission (IWC) for reconsideration of commercial whaling. Commercial whaling is a practice that involves the hunting and killing whales for their oil meat, or whalebone. With their pro stance on whaling, Japan has faced strong international criticism especially from environmentalists and Western governments, which view Japan as obstructing international efforts to protect these mammals. This paper will argue that Japan should not be forced to remove the practice of commercial whaling in order to satisfy the international views. This is because... The IWC has defended most of Japan s whaling insisting to those that oppose that the research is solely for research implying that the majority of whales killed by Japan are taken in an internationally designated haven, which Japan has chosen to ignore (MacKenzie). The idea of the Whale Wars is likely to continue by animal rights activist and anti whaling governments. The United Nation s International Court of Justice (ICJ) later ruled that Japan s scientific research program JARPA II was not what it was suppose to be. This ruling has also barred Japan from whaling in the Antarctic (MacKenzie). This ruling momentarily stopped Japan vessels from whaling. In June of 2014, the Prime Minister in Japan Shinzo Abe, showed defiance of the International Courts ruling as he was quoted in say to aim for resumption of commercial whaling by conducting whaling research in order to obtain scientific date indispensable for the management of whale, which is essentially saying Japan will continue to kill whales until it is proven that it is okay to kill whales (Hays). The statements made by the Prime Minister were viewed as disappointment. Greenpeace
The Low Calorie Frozen Microwaveable Food Company Introduction This is a follow up to the previous two assignments for the low calorie frozen microwaveable food company and how the company wants to expand and make long term budgeting decisions. With facing increases in costs and also the expansion this assignment will answer the basic questions for review about what the company can do to be able to move ahead with these challenges and come out profitable. Pricing strategies for making a change in this microwaveable low calories frozen food would be to look at the basics of pricing strategies and the market mix. To create a pricing strategy, the company needs to take into account the target group and the willingness to pay for the product to make sure that the market segmentation and where the price is going to be set at, should be a key point in determining the anticipated rate of price since the product in itself is elastic in nature. Being an elastic company means that the company has flexibility, the ability to meet fluctuations and unplanned changes to demand the potential to take on more contracts and not forfeit seasonal work, financial stability, accounting for fluctuations in a far more controlled way, increase work flow without jeopardizing SLAs or impeding regulatory standards, improved staff efficiencies from well organized working conditions (retrieved Logistics Transport Focus, 16(11), 56 57.) By this the change in price will not necessarily cause a huge change in the quantity of demand by the consumers,
There were only a few people when we arrived, but as the night pushed on, the gym filled up and the floor was full of people in cowboy boots. Some people did come to the dance slightly intoxicated, but not so much that they weren t able to dance properly. Sadly, many of our elderly live in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF). The transition from living in their own homes, to living in a LTCF, can be a traumatic experience. Poor adaptation to a LTCF may cause depression, malnutrition and significantly reduce the lifespan of the elder. Thus, it is imperative, that nurse s recognize this promptly. According to Agnes and Guralnik (2008) adaptation is a gradual change in behavior to conform to the prevailing cultural pattern (p. 15). When elders are placed in a LTCF, whether it be voluntarily or involuntarily, they must give up certain liberties that are taken for granted. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 160). She goes on to say that adaptation to a LTCF is the process by which someone copes with the transition into the life of being a LTCF client (p.159). How the elders view their situation also plays a major role on their adaptation to the LTCF. When someone views the environment in an absolute negative way, they are going to struggle to become adapted. On the other hand, if they look at the positives of the environment they may adapt more appropriately. According to Sister Callista Roy s theory, adaptation is the process and outcome of individuals and groups, who use conscious awareness, self reflection and choice to create human and environmental integration (Bergland and Kirkevold, 2006, p.686). This theory lends to adaptation of living in a LTCF by examining a key issue, the elders choice. With personal experience in this matter, it seems as if elders who make the decision of moving into a LTCF better adapt to the environment. In my opinion, a lot of how elders adapt to living in a LTCF depends on the choices they make. If they sit around, and think poor pitiful me, they will have a much harder time adapting to their new environment. If the elder becomes engaged in their new environment, they will adapt more efficiently. As Parker (2013) mentioned, she stays heavily involved in activities that the LTCF provides, but also performs a multitude of other activities in her apartment
Keeping Conflict Constructive Summary In the video series Keeping Conflict Constructive, Michael Roberto suggests a variety of approaches to diagnosing whether a debate is becoming unproductive. School leaders or team leaders in charge of keeping debates constructive should pay particular attention to the attitudes, words, and non verbal actions of each member within the group. Roberto suggests looking for people who are no longer asking questions in order to gain a better understanding of the issue at hand or the insights of others (The Teaching Company, 2009). This, to me, would hint that the participant being studied has likely committed to a stance or decision and is ready to move on. Roberto also suggests that a debatehas become unproductive if no one is searching for new information (The Teaching Company, 2009). To me, this would become evident if each person repeatedly refers to their own beliefs, assumptions, or research. Another interesting and significant aspect to look for and evaluate is withdrawal (The Teaching Company, 2009). Robert Garmston tells readers that the typical roles in a group are the engaged participant, the facilitator, the recorder, the role authority, and citizen facilitator. This led us to transforming the worldwide box office revenue variable as shown in Table 9. Figures 4 7 showed that the transformed variable made a huge difference. The linear regression assumptions were satisfied and the residual plots indicated the residuals followed a linear pattern. It is clear that transforming the dependent variable has a key role in why the linear regression prediction accuracies are quite high. Considering that only pre release data was used to predict the worldwide box office revenue and the best model had three independent variables, it is a very high accuracy and shows how effective linear regression can be. Table 16 and 17 displays the results of the SVM prediction models. The same three variables that were used to predict the worldwide box office revenue was used again in the SVM algorithm. The results obtained from the models were slightly better than the linear regression models. SVM is more advanced then linear regression so it is not unexpected that SVM has given us a higher accuracy. The SVM models did not exceed the accuracy of the regression by much. The accuracies of the SVM models ranged from 81% 83%. Nevertheless the accuracies of the models predicting the worldwide box office revenues are impressive and shows movie studios how effective pre release data is.   • 36. The Concentration Of Water Molecules INTRODUCTION: Water is an essential thing for life. The earth and the entire living organism are made of water. A water molecule goes from high concentrated solution to a lower concentrated solution to try to equalize the concentration. The water molecules are always moving, and the rate of the movement depends on the concentrationgradient. The bigger the difference in concentration the faster the molecules move down the concentration gradient. To figure out what diffusion was, I used the book and my notes from the lecture. There are three types of diffusion: Hypertonic, Hypotonic and Isotonic. The Hypertonic solutionhas a higher concentration of NaCl. The Hypotonic solution has less concentration of NaCl. The Isotonic solution has about the same NaCl content and the blood cell. Based on the facts that water molecules are always moving from a high concentrated to low concentrated gradient, the water molecules will move out of the red blood cells when placed in hypertonic solution and will swell up when placed in the hypotonic solution. In the Isotonic solution, the blood cell remains the same because they have the same concentration gradient. The reason for this experiment was to see how the blood cells react with different solutions. These solutions will be our variables, which will change during this lab course. Which of these solutions have different outcomes, so my hypothesis will probably be different for each solution. I predicted that the
The New York Stock Exchange Crash Of 1929 The open market in the United States allows for many individuals and businesses to develop and grow their capital so long as financial regulation is handled properly. Proper regulation of loans allows for reasonable restriction towards speculation and encourages business expansion. When regulation is loosely held the economy suffers from misrepresentation of loans and broker ignorance. This can be represented through the New York Stock Exchangecrash of 1929, which holds many similarities to the events leading to and after the United States subprime mortgage crisis. Increased popularity of on margin loans almost directly correlate to the subprime mortgages that were made widely available in the first decade of the twenty first century. Brokers and loan originators, who fabricated on margin and subprime mortgage loans, increased country wide economic risk by encouraging individuals to accept monetary burdens they could not possibly afford. Also, as individuals continued to purchase on credit, a market economic bubble was formed. Once this bubble popped the Dow Jones, what individuals typically look to for market value, suffered a massive decrease in values. Each market crash displayed these occurrences, which can be correlated to one another. On Margin Subprime Mortgages The popularity of on margin stock purchases and subprime mortgages increased prior to each economic meltdown. The 1920 era was a time of confidence and enthusiasm because of the market s economic success.
  • 40. The Legacy Of Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson was born April 13, 1743, in Shadwell, Virginia. His mother was Jane Randolph Jefferson, his father was Peter Jefferson, and he was the third of ten children. As a child he liked to explore in the woods, play the violin, and read. In 1757 he started attending a private school run by Reverend William Douglas and Reverend James Maury in which he studied Latin, Greek, mathematics, and literature. After studying there for three years he went to The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He studied there for three years, and then studied law under Wythe for five years. In 1767 he won admission to Virginia Bar. From 1767 through 1764 he practiced law. He took up many cases and won a large majority of them. During that time he also met and married Martha Wayles Skelton, and they had six children together, only two of which lived until adulthood. Jefferson s political career began in 1768 when he was elected to the House of Burgesses where he promoted America s independence from England. He also wrote his first major political composition, A Summary View of the Rights of British America which gained him the reputation as the most eloquent writer of the American cause. Because of his reputation
  • 41. Episodic Memory And Reconstructive Memory Analysis Memory as a whole is often broken down into smaller more specialized components, The focus of this essay will be on declarative memory, which is a form of long term memory that requires conscious retrieval of previously learned information, and the subcategories semantic memory and episodic memory. Episodic memoryconsists of personal experiences and as such includes autobiographical memories of the self. Semantic memoryis primarily composed of generalized factual information. As both episodic and semantic memory are as stated earlier examples of long term memory, they are as such subject to changes over time, due to vulnerability to forgetting. Though memory is a fundamental component of everyday functioning, it is not necessarily reliable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fuzzy trace theory thereby predicts that recall of presented words should be greater than those of the critical word as they benefit both from the episodic recollection of perception and from associative activation. In a meta analysis by Gallo (2013) false memories were found to be more resilient to forgetting due to their existence as more of a gist than the item specific words presented, As such supporting the involvement of gist based memory as opposed to associative activation. Fuzzy trace theory includes mention of recollection rejection, a type of monitoring process, whereby specific, vivid details from the episodic memory may suppress the ability to create false memories. Brainerd, Reyna, Wright, and Mojardin (2003) supported this as they found that verbatim memory traces of actual events could be triggered by gist consistent events, thereby suppressing the false
  • 42. Wollstonecraft s Vindication Of The Rights Of Women There are strong contrasting views on the concept of education and relation when reading Wollstonecraft s Vindication of the Rights of Women, Rousseau s Second Discourse, and The Analects of Confucius. While Wollstonecraft and Confucius have similar views on the necessity of education to achieve virtue, Rousseau views education as a source of corruption and vice. In Wollstonecraft s Vindication of the Right of Women education is a tool used to gain freedom and be proactive in determining one s fate. Wollstonecraft states that it is a farce to call any being virtuous whose virtues do not result from the exercise of its own reason (12). This means that in the eyes of Wollstonecraft is being proactive in determining your fate, which she considers a virtue. However, the only way to control your fate is to educate themselves about the society they live in(11). Through this education one is able to come to their on conclusions on what is right, and wrong as well as define virtues for themselves. With this freedom an individual has the ability to lay laws upon themselves and follow them, which Wollstonecraft considered a great virtue. This relationship between virtue and education greatly contributes to her belief that women should be able to receive an education like that of a man. For Wollstonecraft education equates to freedom and freedom to determine one s life is virtuous. However, under oppressive patriarchy women are restricted from receiving equal education, which in
  • 43. Cultural Capital Needed For Gain Upward Social Mobility As a student from a working class background, I did not have access to the type of cultural capital needed to gain upward social mobility. For example, I come from a family that has had no formal education beyond high school and so I was without the knowledge of how to gain access into the realm of higher education. My family had never gone through the application process and so they did not know how to access and utilize the collegehelp that my school provided. Also, my high schoolonly had fourteen counselors available to provide assistance to the 4,263 students that attended the school (Illinois Report Card 2010). This counselor to student ration meant that not much time could be devoted to each student to give them the help they needed to navigate the complex college application system (Civil Rights Data 2009, Illinois Report Card 2010). During my time in high school, I never actually spoke to any of the counselors about college plans and I was not even aware that they could help in that area. In the following sections I detail how the cultural capital borrowed or learned from scholarship programs and cultural mentors ultimately impact a student s upward mobility most. Exclusive scholarship programs can act as a tool that helps move a working class student beyond the achievement levels of their parents. These programs do so by exposing students to privileged knowledge, skills, and strategies that they would not access to otherwise. Lareau and Horvat define these types
  • 44. The Use Of Meth On The Black Market And Manufacture It For... To meet the ever increasing demand for this drug, users have found a way to reproduce meth on the black market and manufacture it for sale. It is mostly produced in illegal facilities all over the country and the world, that have dangerous conditions. These black market type facilities are known as Meth production labs. The chemicals used to reproduce the drugs can kill people if it explodes. It can cause damage to surrounding buildings and even hurt innocent people around them that live nearby. In most recent years, moving mobile meth labs are used on the street to reproduce this drug, in cars, trucks and other vehicles to hide their illegal growing activities. The easy process of making and producing Methamphetamine is a simple process, when compared to the manufacturing and growing of other recreational drugs. It is more popular among many groups of people as the drug of choice to reproduce all over the nation and the world. As a result of the popularity of meth production, local, state and national governments along with drug task forces work around the clock, non stop to keep up on the crackdown of meth production and to shut down these illegal meth labs that will produce and ship this particular drug. With impacts that can be particularly damaging to human life, drug task forces and government agencies have a war on their hands and it seems like it is getting out of hand as they try to fight against this daily. With almost 11 million Americans admitting they
  • 45. Pro Forma Earnings Report 1.INTRODUCTION Pro forma earnings are earnings which often exclude non recurring items and are defined by each individual firm rather than under the general accepted accounting principle (GAAP). Pro forma earnings reporting is commonplace in the U.S. (Doyle et al. 2013; Bentley et al. 2016). Items such as nonrecurring gains and losses, depreciation and amortization expenses, write downs, restructuring and merger costs, stock compensation expenses, and interest expenses are often excluded in pro forma earnings figures. Since many of these exclusions are likely to be transitory in nature, pro forma earnings can be viewed as a better measure of permanent earnings and have received increasing focus recently. Research studies found that pro forma earnings are more value relevant, informative, and better associated with stock prices than GAAP earnings (Bradshaw and Sloan, 2002; Bhattacharya et al.,2003; Brown and Sivakumar, 2003; Entwistle et al., 2010). However, exclusion of the non recurring items is completely discretionary (Doyle et al., 2013) and managers may use the flexibility to opportunistically influence the market s perception of the firm s recurring earnings (Dechow and Schrand, 2004). Managers may have strong incentives to manipulate the reported pro forma earnings to influence investors perceptions about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This promised a return of the United States prewar mentality, without the thought of war contaminating the minds of the American people. With this in mind, the 1920s began but Americans in the 1930s witnessed dramatic changes in their lives from the 1920s. The 1920s was a period of prosperity and economic success, while the 1930s was a time of economic downfall. The economy fluctuated between times of great prosperity and times of undoubtable depression. Following these economic downturns was a period of rigorous attempts to recover from severe economic loss. It did not take long for this economic hardship to lead to some more... Also, this helped feed the Harlem Renaissance , a cultural movement that spanned the 1920s in which black art, literature, and music experienced renewal and growth, originating in New York City s Harlem district. It was a period of great achievement by African American writers, poets, artists, and performers. Similarly, the 1930s was occupied by the ability of African Americans to get jobs on Works Progress Administration projects because discrimination was banned by Executive Order 7046. During this time, a multitude of African Americans received wages from the WPA twice as much as their prior earnings. Another program that aided African Americans was Harold Icke s Public Works Administration. This program provided to black tenants a more than fair share of the public housing it built. Additionally, Ickes utilized the quota system by Public Works Administration to hire African Americans in proportion to their numbers in local workforce (Document 8b). All in all, the two decades emphasized how there was an encouragement of minorities. Moreover, multiple new occupations were opening for middle class women. Once they got out of schools and colleges, they dove into all manner
  • 47. Cosmos Plant Hydration Lab Report The graphs and data shows the progression of the Cosmos plant while being hydrated with three different solutions: water, lemon, and baking soda. They all have different pH levels and affect the rate of growth. The quantitative data shows the height of the plants. Based on the data table, the water or neutral pH had the most height, then lemon juice, and lastly the baking soda mixture. The baking soda mixture left the plants dead after the fourteenth day of the experiment. The data shows that each plant grew from 1 2.5 inches everytime they were checked. This can be represented by trial one of water when the sprout grew from 3.5 inches to 5 inches. Based on the qualitative data, the baking soda plants showed little growth and progressively... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Cosmos flower was used to test this. Water has a neutral pH which is generally the best substance for any type of plant to grow and be healthy. However, the Cosmos also grows well when hydrated with a more acidic substance. When hydrated with a substance that is more of abase, it will not grow successfully, which is proven by the data since they died after the third check and became wilted. The hypothesis was not proven because the plants watered with the acidic lemon juice grew more successfully than base substance, which was predicted to keep the plants healthy. The tallest plants that grew was hydrated with water and was 13 inches tall and the shortest living plant was hydrated with the baking soda solution and was 2 inches tall. The control of this experiment was the plant, the Cosmos Bipinnatus because it did not change. The amount of time passed in days was changing, which makes it the independent variable. The dependent variable was the height of the plant, along with its overall health. After composing the procedure, it was observed that the measurements were off, which was an experimental error. The mixture between baking and water was too thick and did not saturate the soil. This could have caused the plants to die more quickly and the pH may not have affected the data as much if it weren t for this
  • 48. Symbolism In Mansfield Park Mansfield Park, written by Jane Austen, is a literary classic full of symbolism. One such symbol is that of gardening and landscaping, two highly important factors to the family in this novel. The characters throughout the novel seem distressed at times about this factor in their lives. But why is gardening and such trivial things of such grass and landscaping? Eighteenth century landowners spent a great deal of time and money remaking the grounds of their estates (Olsen 316). There were many reasons on why these upper class people worried so much about this and there were many ways that Austen showed this need for approval and used it to exemplify her characters. Yet, Austen uses the shrubbery and the aspects of nature to reflect her diverse and complexing characters in many of her novels. The symbolism of nature is a mirror to how the characters, and humanity, truly are. In Mansfield Park...nature rather than landscape tends to be emphasized and frequently related to a character s mood or state of mind (Baker 541). Fanny has a more religious tone throughout the noveland her beliefs affect her crucially. Fanny is at one end of the spectrum, whilst Mary is at the other. Fanny exemplifies the Christian mind s seeking after God s divine invisible things though the [visible] things he made in the natural world (Tarpley 165). Fanny s beliefs put her on one end, which puts Mary, her opposition, at the end. In Mansfield Park, Austen typically contrasts Fanny s response
