Justinian And Theodora And Byzantine Cultures In The...
World Changers
Justinian and Theodora ruled the Byzantine Empire from 527 to 565 AD, in their time they
influenced not only the art of the era, but also the architecture and the church. Byzantine was an
extremely diverse culture. It included members from groups around the entire known world at the
time and this region brought them together (Brooks). This diversity did lead to conflict once
Justinian became emperor due to his intolerance for what he considered paganistic rituals. This
lead him to end the Academy and for him or even go so far so to put in place measures that
limited the Semitic lifestyle. Theodora was one of the most powerful empresses of the Byzantine
era and was wife of Justinian. In her youth she was a prostitute and dancer and this translated into
her adulthood as her fighting for women s rights. Justinian claimed to be a Christian Emperor and
accomplished many achievements with both the church and with law. The goal of their reign was
to restore Rome to its previous vigor through their influence in the culture that was portrayed
through mosaics and churches. While they did not achieve the full life of Rome again, they did
influence it and bring it out of the darkness that it was beginning to fall into.
There is a mosaic located in the San Vitale church located in Ravenna. This mosaic depicts Justinian
and a court of clergymen in the chancel of the church. In this art there are many symbols. According
to Khan Academy in this mosaic Justinian is seen in

Similarities Between John Waters And Mink Stole
Some call me director, producer, filmmaker. I prefer to call myself pube king. Born on April
22nd, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, John Samuel Waters Jr. grew up with a passion for film.
From a young age, Waters was dabbling with movies of the silent variety, bring people into
churches that he would rent out to screen them. This spark of life he d breathe into his beginning
of career would forever set the stage as an auteur for the ages. Auteur can otherwise be defined as
doing what you want as a director and having those ideas reflected in the films that are produced.
John Waters perfectly encompasses throughout his career as what it means to be an auteur director.
Several aspects of achieving this status including embracing the ideas the ... Show more content on

film but has never let that dim his voice. Throughout the rest of his career, Waters goes on to

The Parliamentary Power Of Finland
Finland is a parliamentary democracy with a multiparty political system. It has a mixed
presidential and parliamentary system with executive powers divided between the president and
the prime minister. The president is the head of state and the commander in chief of the Defense
Forces who oversees national security and foreign affairs. The president is elected for a term of
six years and may hold up to two consecutive terms maximum. The president s power has been
slightly reduced since the constitutional change in 2000 giving the prime minister, who is
appointed by the president, a little more power. Although its power has weakened, it still plays an
important part in political affairs. The legislative power of Finlandis allocated to the Finnish
Parliament. It consists of 200 members that are elected every 4 years. The Parliament has three
main function; it passes laws, it approves the national budget, and it oversees the government. The
executive power is exercised by the Council of State, which is led by the prime minister. The
Council of State is the government and it has 12 ministries that are responsible for their own
department of the government such as the Ministry of Finance, Justice, etc.
Finland s economy is highly industrialized and very dependent on its exports, primarily on high
tech manufactured goods and its forestry industry. It s so dependent that exported goods make up
nearly a third of Finland s GDP. It s three main importing and exporting partners are

Analysis Of Lauryn Hill Mystery Of Iniquity
Kane Smith Smith1 Nov.14.2017 Eng. 102 Lauryn Hill Lauryn Hill was and still is an iconic
individual of the African American Hip Hop genre. She is known for her enlightening lyrics and
historical puns that resonate with her listeners. During a time where blacks were being served
with the injustice of society and being defied the moral code of citizenship, Ms. Hill released a
song like poem that not only told our story but spread the message of frustration and struggle so
those without a voice can be heard. Mystery of Iniquity is poem that transcribes three main topics

It s the mystery of iniquity Said It s the misery of inequit Said it s the misery of inequity When it
all... All falls down... Telling you all.... It all falls down (Hill) The above text is the hook to the
poem Mystery of Iniquity Before going in depth with the first piece of the poem; something
stands out in the first two stanzas: iniquity and inequity . According to Webster s dictionary,
inquity is defined as gross injustice; a wicked act or thing and inequity is defined as injustice,
unfairness; an instance of injustice or unfairness (Merriam Webster) Here Ms. Hill sets the tone
for the rest of the poem. She explains that the unfairness of iniquity and inequity is a miserable
feeling. She is talking directly to those that share her unfortunate circumstances of being treated
unfairly in a state of misery. The pre verse that follows the hook brings the topic of religion into
view. The first four lines in the pre verse symbolize Biblical meaning and give way to religious
pretext. The verse says Smith3 Children...Eat your bread. Little children...eat your bread In the
Bible, the bread is symbolic of truth. In John 6:35 there is a story of Jesus speaking to his people.
He does not give physical food but He says I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me

Marketing Plan For Unitedhealth Group
UnitedHealth Group continues to enjoy steady progress across its major business units. Over the
past two years United has worked to strengthen and accelerate its investments in its core health
insurance and health services (Optum) units. This disciplined approach has resulted in both top line
and bottom line growth growth for the organization on a year over year basis, with primary growth
coming from the senior and public sectors, as well as from strong results in Optum. Membership

Under this approach, as an example, United averages on any given day about 27,000 members in
an inpatient setting and another 14,000 members receiving services in a skilled nursing facility.
These members are managed by 2,000 clinical employees working with attending physicians to
achieve optimal quality outcomes and having proper discharge plans in place when members
leave the facilities in order to prevent unnecessary readmissions. United also expects to make one
million house calls and home visits for its Medicare members aimed at enhancing adherence in
care plans and closing care gaps.
On the network side, United now considers value based contracting (VBC) to be fundamental to
the company and will have grown its VBC from $13 billion annually in 2011 to $35 billion by
the end of 2014. Looking forward, United expects VBCs to be worth $65 billion by 2018. Value
based contracts are at the center of United s affordability efforts and are the key driver in
controlling medical costs as the change in the unit cost of services accounts for two thirds to three
quarters of the company s overall cost trend.
United s consumer engagement efforts are aimed at changing the industry s approach to
transparency and access to information that enables members to make informed decisions about
their care, where it is provided and by whom it is provided. Current consumer engagement tools

The Sniper-Personal Narrative
The long June twilight faded into night. Dublin lay developed in darkness, but for the dim light
of the moon that shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over
the streets and the dark waters of the Liffey. Around the beleaguered Four Courts the heavy guns
roared. Here and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night,
spasmodically, like dogs barking on lone farms. Republicans and Free Staters were waging civil
war. On one evening, a man drove up in an armoured car, and had experienced something that
had happened before, but not in a long time. He was used to gunshots at night, but hadn t usually
been there to witness a death. This man was tall, and thin. He had eyes as blue as the sky. He
had a wife, and three kids, and his life had been as good as it can be. His life was always
interesting, when he knew the sniper had been out. There was always a story to tell, and he had
many encounters with him. The man had usually been at the wrong place at the wrong time. The...

A shot was fired, and the man in the car yelled for the old lady to run across the street. She would
be safe there. Another shot was fired, and before the old woman s body could react, she was
dead. His ears were ringing from the first gunshot which hit the vehicle armor. There was a loud
thud after the second pop or gunshot which was the woman s head hitting the sidewalk. It was the
worst noise he had ever heard. The man was used to seeing war horrors and hearing gunshots all the
time, but this death really took its toll on him. But he knew the sniper was still alive, out there,
watching him. The sniper could see the man, but the man could not see the sniper and nothing
would stop him from killing his target. The man was completely caught off guard, when another
gun fired, but this time it was from the opposite street, at the top of the

The Importance Of Crime Scene Investigation And Evidence
Crime Scene Investigation and evidence In a crime investigation, police officers play a key role
as first responders. The action police officers take at the beginning of the crime scene play a
vital role in solving the case. Through and carefulness are the two main thing in an investigation
to ensure that potential physical evidence is not tainted or destroyed, or potential witnesses are
not overlooked (Reno, 2000). Thorough an investigation a crucial factor influencing the
ultimate legal significance of evidence is that investigators follow with an objective, thorough
and thoughtful approach (Lewis, 2015). Physical evidence plays a significant role in the
criminal justice system. It is considered as the key element in determining the guilt or innocence
of an individual who is being accused of committing a crime. The uses of evidence in the court
of law is very important, therefore, crime scene investigators must follow a specific protocol
when they are collecting evidences. The goal of this process is the recognize and preserve
physical evidence that will yield reliable information to aid in the investigation (Lewis, 2015).
Crime scene investigation CSI is the abbreviation of crime scene investigation. CSI can be
defined as the examination of a scene of a crime for clues or any physical evidence that may lead
investigators towards identifying a criminal suspect. At every crime scene, there is a story to tell.
A crime scene is like a piece of history. Evidence found a

The Party System, Republican Vs. Federalist
Final Exam Part 2 _QC There are several reasons why the two party system, Republican vs.
Federalist, worked so well in the 1790 s. First, when the political parties emerged in the 1790 s it
was evident that their ideologies were vastly different. The Republican Party wanted a
representative form of government that functioned in the interest of the people. This party, led by
Thomas Jefferson, supported a limited central government, with individual states retaining a
majority of the control. Jefferson s vision was for a nation of farmers, and farmers do not need
big government to survive. They feared a large central government would take away the rights of
the people. On the other hand, the Federalist Party, led by Alexander Hamilton, supported a strong
central government that would pursue policies in support of economic growth, which in turn
would provide the freedom the people wanted. Hamilton s followers also supported a diverse
economy.1 It is important to note here however, that both parties knew they would have to become
national parties in order to win any elections and both parties had followers in the north and in the
south. There was no sectional divide in the parties. Second, the Constitution played an important
role in the why the two party system worked so well during this period. The Constitution created a
system of government, which distributed power across three levels of government, so that no one
political body had ultimate power. The people

The Hearts of Men Essay
The ways of men are broad in their spectrum, Shakespeare has shown me this. I have seen the
most devious acts and have witnessed men in heroic acts in dramatic display of courageous
ascension. Nevertheless, there are ones who have achieved a level of mediocrity or complacency
throughout his works, but all these states of action are relative as the minds that generate the
impetus. The lowest of the low I have witnessed personally, in these works, and on an
international scale. My interactions with fellow brothers has shown me this, what more can I say,

In today s America, government aid is highly depended on. The US government has spent $498
billion dollars this year on welfare alone. The state of Tennessee has an average of 250,000
residents on welfare and has $3 billion dollars this year alone. To help cut costs and help tax

the beginning of the year, the welfare rate has jumped 7 percent while at the same time, the
welfare funds are drying up. Tennessee funds have dropped 17.5 percent, which comes out to be

drug usage amongst welfare recipients.
There were a total of three dozen states that considered drug testing recipients. Those states included
but are not limited to: Michigan, Maine, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, and
Pennsylvania. Scott (2011), In Michigan, drug tests are only to be administered to recipients only if
there are reasonable suspicions of abuse . A reasonable suspicion would include the odor of
marijuana, paranoia, and the drastic loss of weight without and evidence of a weight loss plan or
health relation. Money given to families by the government for financial support should not be
taken away from the home to buy illegal drugs. There are roughly 30 million Americans receiving
welfare in the United States. The Ohio Legislators believe that the idea of passing a drug test is a
popular way to cut down on fraud, waste, and abuse (Milliken, 2011). Florida is the only state
that actually passed a law on drug testing welfare recipients. All the other state proposed a bill for
the testing but recanted. Sulzberger (2011), In Florida, people receiving cash assistance through

Racial And Ethnic Identity Development
The racial and ethnic identity individuals identify with can be a crucial aspect of the basis of their
individual and collective identity (ChГЎvez Guido DiBrito, 1999). Racial and ethnic identities are
also both comprised of a sense of belongingness to a group, the learning process of being informed
about one s group, in addition to being associated with cultural behaviors and values, with attitudes
towards one s own group, and reactions to discriminate (Phinney Ong, 2007). In the United States,
the way in which some individuals are visibly and legally defined, places them into minority
populations that can alter the way they identify with their racial and ethnic status, conflicting social
influences, and cultural influences (Phinney Ong,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first stage describes unexamined ethnic identity and states that individuals fall into one of two
categories based on their knowledge or influences of ethnicity. The two categories include, the
diffusion category, when the individual has not previously encountered ethnicity as an issue or
topic, and the foreclosure category, when individuals have collected information about ethnicity
from their family and peers, also succumbing to such information without actually interacting with
individuals of that ethnic population, (Phinney, 1993). For many individuals in this stage, ethnicity
is not typically viewed as an issue, which in turn, leads to diffusion or foreclosure, while other
individuals may impart strong ethnic views and seem to jump ahead to stage three. The second
stage of Phinney s model has to do with the search or moratorium of individuals ethnic identity that
describes when an individual encounters can alter how people view and become aware of their own
ethnicity (1993). Phinney (1993), suggests that individuals may remain in this stage for a long
period of time and may even experience rather intense emotions. Lastly, the third stage discusses
ethnic identity achievement when individuals resolve their ethnic identity conflicts (Phinney,
1993). During this stage, individuals are informed about their own ethnicity, but are aware and
appreciative of all ethnicities and suggests a positive, bicultural identity (Phinney, 1993). While this
model may help to explain how individuals ethnic identity could influence the course of an
individual s life and the choices they make entering adulthood, it is important to note that Phinney s
model of ethnic identity development used research from minority adolescents, therefore the
applicability of this model should be drawn into question when applying it to emerging adulthood

A flashbulb memory are memories that are detailed and vivid experiences stored in our minds, and
retained for a lifetime. We tend to remember exactly where we was, what we was doing, who we
were with, and what day and time the event occurred. We have these flashbulb memories of
emotionally stirring events, because it began when one person started to tell their remembrance of a
certain event that happened, then that person started retelling another person in their own
perspectives, and eventually it being retold over and over again. Flashbulb memories are not as
accurate as they seem when they become embedded into our brains after learning of traumatic
events happening around the world. Flashbulb memories are not necessarily 100% accurate, the
accuracy reduces during the first three months and levels at about twelve months (Flashbulb
Memory, n.d.). Flashbulb memories demonstrates the emotional content of an event, ... Show more

History of Depression
History of Depression
Depressive illness has been known since biblical times. The word depression comes from the
Latin word deprimere (to press down). Thus it means feeling pressed down, sad or low. In the late
Middle Ages, religious leaders believed depression was caused by posession of evil spirits. The
German religious reformer Martin Luther wrote All heaviness of the mind and melancholy comes
of the Devil. Through the years depression has been treated with such remedies as whipping,
bloodletting, exorcism and soothing baths. By the 1960s, antidepressant medications were
discovered that relieved depression by correcting chemical imbalances in the brain and because of
that many scientists started to believe that depression was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A series of physical symptoms usually accompany anxiety attacks, such as heart palpitations,
dizziness, sweating ( ever sweaty palms sickness is not a depression syndrome), chest pains and
shortness of breath. Feeling of guilt also occurs in a third of depressed people, often because of
some failure of minor mistake many years ago. They feel they should expect punishment for these
imagined mistakes or failures. (like suddenly feeling sorry for cheating in high school math test
when you are thirty years old!)
Common causes
bullying or abuse
loss of a friend or relative
substantial disappointment at home or at work
prolonged or chronic illness
drugs such as tranquilizers, high blood pressure medicines, steroids (prednisone), codeine, and
indomethacin
alcohol/drugs intoxication and withdrawal
childhood memories
There are other causes of depression. This list is not all inclusive, and the causes are not
presented in order of likelihood. The causes of this symptom can include unlikely diseases and
medications. Furthermore, the causes may vary based on age and gender of the affected person,
as well as on the specific characteristics of the symptom such as quality, time course, aggravating
factors, relieving factors, and associated complaints. Even media plays a big role in depression.

Walt Disney created his iconic character, Mickey Mouse, in the 1930s. The Mickey Mouse
character is widely recognizable as an American icon, and provides the foundation, along with a

The Effects of Differing Response-Force Requirement in...
Introduction Previous research have demonstrated that avoidance responding is influenced by
shock intensity and duration (Leander, 1973; de Souza et al., 1984; Badia et al., 1973). Powell
(1970) investigated the effect of two shock intensities in single and multiple avoidance schedules
and found that the higher shock intensity was generally more effective in producing avoidance
responding. Leander (1973) investigated the effects of shock intensity and duration on free operant
avoidance. The results indicated that shock intensity and shock duration combine in a
multiplicative fashion to determine the avoidance performance. The relation between shock
intensity and shock duration suggested that longer shock durations can be substituted with lower
shock intensities (Leander, 1973). The increased strength and magnitude of shock predicted higher
rates of avoidance responding. However, there seems to be a minimum threshold for shock to
establish and maintain avoidance responding. De Souza et al. (1984) found that there are individual
differences in sensitivity to shock. There was a minimum shock intensity necessary to establish and
maintain avoidance responding; and intensities higher than this minimum value had little or no
effect on responding (de Souza et al., 1984). This suggests that once the range of minimum
threshold sensitivity to shock for individuals in a group is identified, any shock intensity higher
than largest value in the range can potentially establish and

The first part of preparing to make the cookies is combining the given amount of flour, baking soda,

Neutrinos Research Paper
Recently, scientists found the first known evidence of oscillating neutrinos, and have come to
believe that they re getting very close to understanding these bizarre particles.
FERMILAB LAUNCHES NEUTRINOS FARTHER
This scientific advancement is the result of Fermilab s ongoing NOvA experiment, which hopes to
uncover the secrets of those elusive particles called neutrinos. The study released its final results
earlier this week. The experiment s gigantic particle detector is capable of detecting neutrinos fired
from an impressive 500 miles distance, but the scientists are having a hard time forming significant
conclusions from this recent success. It s incumbent for these quantum physicists to progress their
theories because to understand which neutrinos are heavier or lighter will help us construct theories
about how these particles accumulate mass. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

FERMILAB S EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE
In order to detect these far flung neutrinos, Fermilab s neutrino beam uses an underground detector
capable of measuring the neutrino composition of each shot. After being fired, the neutrinos
oscillate 500 miles through the Earth s crust. When one of the neutrinos collides with one of the
atoms in the detector, a signature trail of particles and light is released which is used to identify the
neutrino as an electron, muon or tau. Most neutrinos shot out of Fermilab are composed of muons,
but because of this experimental method, scientists can actually infer how many are transform in
transit from muon to electron.

Summary Of The Production Slammed
On the 31st of July, the Brisbane Bayside State College Drama students viewed the production
Slammed by crosstown artists at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The production was performed by the
Brisbane based production company, Crosstown Artists. Crosstown Artists strive to produce and
promote a range of quality artistic works with fiscal sustainability. From graffiti to hip hop to
burlesque to poetry, Crosstown Artists passionately provide extraordinary opportunities for
performers through their outstanding productions. Slammed is directed by John Peek and focuses
on real life issues that teenagers face daily. The extended response will examine and analyse the
dramatic elements and conventions used throughout this thought provoking and engaging
performance.
Set in a fictitious high school, Slammed follows the story of Jake Ryan, a 15 year who is having a
tough time after being neglected by his father and abandoned by his mother. However, as Jake
battles his way through Year 10 we learn that he is not the only one getting slammed. The specific
themes from the production captivated the audience s attention through real themes that teens have
to deal with on a daily basis. The production is supported by the One Punch ... Show more content

tension, role, mood and symbol. An example of heightened tension would be when Jake Ryan had
just had a fight with his father, and when his father was asleep Jake stood beside his bed and
whispered I hate you . This created tension because earlier on in the play Jake told Emily that if you
were to tell someone you hate them you had to say it not yell it because otherwise it had no
meaning. However this example was not the only heightened tension scene from the production.

When we read the new OBM case application in chapter 5 we understood many new things about
company ethics and responsibility. In this case we were introduced in a true story of
RadioShack Corporate Company. The story is about company s CEO David Edmondson and
his fall as a chairman of it. He lied about his educational background that helped him to take the
CEO seat from Len Roberts. One of the first signs was marked from the newspaper The Fort
Worth Star Telegram who reported a huge article for him. After his hiring as a new CEO the
company lost its positions and the result was that share price dropped to a 3 year low level. Mr.

That is not a good precondition for being a responsible and exemplary top manager. When Mr.
Edmondson became the new CEO of the company, flat sales and lagging stock prices occurred. On
top of that, the RadioShack share prices were falling greatly right after the uncovering of his lies
and underhandednesses. He apologized for making those mistakes and in order to make an
improvement, the CEO s idea was to close a lot of stores. His behaviour violated the company s
ethics. The main value of the company is to be responsible so as to create an environment that
encourages employees to adapt the values of the company. He did not act according to the
company s slogan which shows that the management was not value based. In general, Mr.
Edmondson just failed to meet the company s standards by his unscrupulous behaviour. He has a
lack of moral sense and the company does not permit or even encourage unethical practices. Top
managers are role models which means that they have to set an example to their employees
Although being socially responsible and ethical is a serious challenge nowadays, the company
can not tolerate his performance. Besides that, it is very important for a company to be successful
and Mr. Edmondson was not able to archive the goals. Therefore it was not such a tough decision
as Len Roberts suggested. He probably said that because at first the broad was sure about selecting

Sexual Orientation Within America s Most Controversial...
Sexual orientation can be considered as one of America s most controversial topics. Although the
rationale and choice differs from person to person, and is considered to be a private matter of
personal preference, many people have experienced negative backlash and harsh criticism due to
their individual likings. In general, sexual orientation is defined as: a person s sexual identity in
relation to the genderto which they are attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, or
bisexual. While the definition seems to be straightforward and concise, the subject of sexual
orientation encompasses much more than just the intensity of emotional and erotic attraction and
response to members of the opposite sex, the same sex, or both... Show more content on

A person s sexual orientation is distinct from a person s gender identity and expression, but without
gender identity and expression, sexual orientation would be hard to distinguish. The term gender
identity, distinct from the term sexual orientation, refers to a person s innate, deeply felt
psychological identification as a man, woman or some other gender, which may or may not
correspond to the sex assigned to them at birth (e.g., the sex listed on their birth certificate). For
example take a child who may be born a hermaphrodite or what is commonly known as an intersex.
When birthed this child would have either male and female sex organs or sexual characteristics.
Unlike those who are heterosexual, homosexual, or even bisexual, an intersexual in my opinion
would have the most difficult time finding their sexual orientation, due to the fact at times they are
given a gender identity based on their genital formation. When in the womb intersex infants can
be spotted. The choice is up to the parent s then if they would like to assign gender to the infant.
Some of the following diagnoses at times seem to be the logical reasons behind assigning gender
to the infant. Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) is an inherited condition that technically can
be found at birth and it does not allow the body to make enough cortisol. When the cells in the
body try to make cortisol they began to become enlarged. If not

Who Owns the Power to Control Communication
Some theorists seem to suggest that the power to control communication is held by the producers
of messages whereas other theorists argue that the power to control interpretations of texts are held
by the consumers of culture operating within specific cultural contexts. Which of these positions is
true? Why?
It can be agreed to a large extent that the power to control interpretations of texts are held by the
consumers of culture operating within specific cultural contexts. However, this is not to refute
completely that producers of messages hold some power to control communication. Previous
studies of the theories of communication provide the set of assumptions that the process of
communication is actually one way. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
345). He felt that while encoders, or the producers of texts, played an important role in
communication, decoders, also known as the consumers who deduce the meaning of the texts,
were marginally more prevailing. The encoding phase is where a common set of codes are used
to put together a message but this phase takes note of the audience as both source and receiver of
the message. An example would be the mindset of a journalist whose main purpose of producing an
article is to provide the reader with something they desire to read. This implies that the consumers
of texts heavily influence the producers into developing texts with messages that the reader wants
to derive from them.
Another reason why the consumers of texts hold power over the producers is simply the copious
amount of texts that are made available to them. This increase in the choice between media and
within media has led to development of narrowcasting and niche audiences. With the advent of
mass consumerism and technology, the production of texts have skyrocketed, leaving the audience
spoilt for choice. Raymond Bauer (1964) placed an emphasis on choice that was anchored in and
ensured by an independent, even obstinate, audience. The active individual was a modern citizen
consumer patrolling the periphery of his or her consciousness with a vigilant consumerism (Biocca,
n.d.). Bauer (1964) felt that the consumers could not

The Patriarchal Church
Although Jeanette s mother agrees with the dominance of the patriarchal church, she dominates the
home front, which Woolf cites as the domestic arts (134). Once Jeanette was revealed to be a
lesbian, Jeanette s mother blamed Jeanette s preaching and activism in the church as the cause since
it was thought that preaching was a masculine job. In Oranges, Jeanette states:
The real problem, it seemed, was going against the teachings of St Paul, and allowing women
power in the church. Our branch of the church never thought about it, we d always had strong
women, and the women organized everything. Some of us could preach, and quite plainly, in my

Her father willingly caves to her mother s will like Christians follow God s will and women follow
the patriarchy s will. Each dominating factor is based on religious ideologies that are
disseminated by religious education. In a religious society, people use religion to justify actions
that subject the populace to servitude. If one were to question the power that commits society
into classes of the ruled and the rulers, they would be dismissed as perverted, immoral agitators.
Simply questioning the power structure will lead to the outcasting of an individual, analogous to
what happened to Jeanette after her sexuality was revealed and she refused to give the church its
due power by not repenting. She was cast out of the community and rejected by her mother; her
church family; and, as she felt, her God. Jeanette s mother can be read as a metaphor of the duality
of religious ideologies and the hypocrisy and contradictions presented in the Christian Bible. These
contradictions allow for many things to be justified by citing a verse of scripture while neglecting
to mention another that counters it because societal pressure does not allow for the questioning of
the accuracy of the scripture s relevance or its interpretation. In other words, in religious societies,
scripture is final and the only thing needed

The Influential Typeface Helvetica
The influential typeface Helvetica, a neo grotesque1 sans serif type design, came into being in
the early 1950s after the Second World War. The expectation of the designers, Edouard Hoffman
and Max Miedinger was to create a neutral typeface that had great clarity, no intrinsic meaning in
its form and could be used on a wide variety of signage to remake a new identity apart from the past
(). Originally named as Neue Haas Grotesk, the typefacewas changed to Helveticain 1960. Today,
Helvetica, as an aesthetics constant, although not perfect, mastered the quantum leap in 1957 from
metal type to the digital age of word processing. Axel Langer, a curator of Islamic Near Eastern
Art, mentioned it as an impersonal typeface for today and tomorrow ().

The original design was released by Linotype in 1957. Since its launch, the typeface had been
worked on by a variety of designers to adapt it for successive methods of composition, from hot
metal to photocomposition to digital. Given the technical limitations of methods, the character
weights, widths and spacing were inconsistent and compromised.
Neue Helvetica, as the outcome of technological changes, was designed in 1983, represents a
synthesis of aesthetics and technical refinements and modifications that resulted in improved
usefulness: a number of characters were subtly changed to be more consistent and more
harmonious with the overall design characteristics. For instance, the x height has been adjusted to
appear visually the same in all weights. The x heights in previous versions were all the same, but
since type tends to look shorter as it gets heavier, the new x heights compensate for this optical
illusion. Besides, the crossbars on the lowercase f and t were widened to increase the legibility in
text. Additionally, the Neue Helvetica family was extended to 51 weights in all, which are many

The Loch, the Legend, and the Monster Essay example
While the possible origins, attempts at proof, monsters throughout the world, and the tourist traps
are interesting, the real phenomenon is not the supposed existence of a monster, but rather the way
humans brains work. Sometimes all logic is abandoned as people attempt to make sense of the
natural world. There are many theories in psychology that try to explain why humans believe in
supernatural phenomena, including survival techniques from evolution, the McGurk effect, and the
need for control. Anthropologists suggest that evolution has conditioned us to assume things are
alive when we are not quite sure. For example, it s a better survival strategy to believe that a big,

Our brains do a remarkable job at making sense of it all. It seems easy enough to separate the
sounds we hear from the sights we see. But there is one illusion that reveals this isn t always the
case. The illusion occurs because what you are seeing clashes with what you are hearing (BBC).
Our brains take conflicting information and try to make it all fit together. So if a person has
spent a lifetime hearing stories about monster sightings in Loch Ness, if they go to Loch Ness
they will almost be expecting to see the monster themselves, practically giving their eyes
permission to see what they want to see. For example, many students, teachers, and community
members believe the Tooele High School s auditorium to be haunted. Throughout my four years of
high school, I spent a considerable amount of time in said haunted auditorium because I was a
member of the THS Drumline. In order to prepare for our annual black light show, we would
spend most of their rehearsals in the auditorium with the lights off, becoming accustomed to
playing in the dark. Our band director would often attempt to communicate with the ghosts, and
even though her attempts failed, the thought of ghosts made us jumpy for the remainder of
practice. Although the majority of us didn t truly believe in ghosts, we expected to hear or see
ghosts, so we did. We would mistake the sounds of someone working backstage for a bloodthirsty

Essay On Concealed Weapons Crime
Abstract
Is the violent crime rate affected by citizens legally carrying concealed weapons? One side
argues being legally allowed to conceal carry weapons lowers the violent crime rate. Another side
argues being legally allowed to conceal carry weapons increases the violent crime rate. Currently,
there are forty three states that are right to carry states and seven states may issue which makes it
very hard to obtain a concealed weapons permit. This paper will compare violent crime rates within
the state of Florida before and after the implementation of legally concealed weapons. This paper
will evaluate how legally concealed weapons affect the crime rate. Such findings will be gathered
from a combination of studies and sources, including: an interview study of police officers
(qualitative data on how concealed weapons effect crime rate), crime rate statistics illustrating
Florida s violent crime rates per capita and various experts within the field of concealed weapons
and their impact on violent crime rates. The improvement of police methodology will also be
evaluated to test the impact of concealed weapons and its effect on the violent crime rate.

Evolution Of The Supreme Court Case
The Constitution is a living, breathing document, so it evolves and develops over time. Looking at
key court cases from the past, the evolution of the right can be analyzed further, but first let us
come back to Chief Justice John Marshall s words about how third parties in all fundamental
fairness can claim the right to plead the fifth, and use the self incriminationclause, while keeping in
regard the actions of others, and not just themselves. What he said was used in both the Marbury
v. Madison case of 1803, and in the treason case of Aaron Burr. However, this practice is no longer

this right to U.S citizens in a fundamental manner. This Supreme Court case brought change to the

The controversy of the case that made it such an evolutionary landmark, was the fact that the main
suspect, Ernesto Miranda confessed that he had raped and kidnapped a woman and committed an
armed robbery after intense interrogation after being arrested, violating his Fifth Amendment rights.
However, Miranda was neither informed of his rights nor told he could ask for an attorney to be

hours which resulted in a signed, written confession. After the 20 30 years of imprisonment on each
count, the Supreme Court of Arizona, on appeal according to United States courts website, the
court ruled that Miranda s constitutional rights were not violated. The Supreme Court eventually
ended up ruling that his confession was not admissible in court. It led them to conclude that law

Summary Of Jim Casy A Journey To California
The story begins with Tom Joad hitchhiking with a truck driver, to whom he reveals that he has
been released on parole from the state penitentiary. While walking along a desolate road, he
encounters a man named Jim Casy who is a preacher Tom remembers from his childhood. Casy
explains to Tom why he is no longer a preacher because he has supposedly lost his dosage of the

mandated by organized religion. Instead, Casy argues, the Holy Spirit is love not just the love of
God or Jesus, but the love of all mankind.
Tom invites Casy to join him on his walk home, only to find it completely deserted. A man named
Muley Graves, who is one of the family s neighbors, tells Tom that his family has been forced off

night in a cave near the abandoned farm and travel to Uncle John s house the next morning.
The entire family is preparing for the long journey ahead to California when Tom and Casy
arrive. Casy asks the Joads if he can travel west with them and they agree to take him in the
hopes of a potential blessing. Once all of their possessions have been sold to junkyards and used

Efficient and Sustainable Ecosystems
Ecosystem Report:
Introduction:
Ecosystems are everywhere. Any place that contains living and non living organisms (biotic and
abiotic), that share the same space are a community, this is called an ecosystem. An ecosystem can
occupy a large space in the environment, or a very small space. To make up an ecosystem, there
must be an interrelationship between the abiotic and biotic components in the ecosystem; for
example, there must be a series of food chains in order for the different species to survive in that
particular ecosystem. Another definition of an ecosystem is:
They consist of all the organisms in a community, their biotic and abiotic environments, and
exchanges within and between each of these (Knox et al. 2010, p. 128).
The purpose of this investigation is to thoroughly study an ecosystem, to expand the knowledge of
many who wish to further understand the environment and its components. By completing this
investigation it allows for people to understand the importance and needs for having and
maintaining healthy ecosystems. For example, Ecosystems provide food both in their natural
state...in the form of managed landscapes (International Water Management Institute 2011, p. 11).

and businesses. But there is an underlying beauty in all these buildings. There is a gift of nature
bestowed upon it in several places across this metropolitan city and I was lucky enough to
experience it.I will take you through my journey in Mumbai and how its a place for everyone and

Comparison Krakauer And Odyssey
Krakauer and odysseys have a lot of the same experiences on their trips. Krakauer went on a
journey to climb mount Everest to reach the peak. Odyssey went on a journey for the war and
after that he had 1 more journey which was to get back to Ithaca. They are full of guilt on their
journeys.
Both men feel guilty about withholding information from their companions. Krakauer did not tell
his friends about his feelings and how the weather was getting bad. Odyssey did not tell them what
was in the bag that has the winds in them which then when they open it the winds blew them much
further then when they were. This is how they both felt guilt from withholding information from
their friends.
Both men experience survivors guilt when they lose their

Both purposes of the theme is to help people in their life, but before they get what they want they
need to work hard first with it. Prim! I don t need to shove through the crowd. The other kids
make way immediately allowing me a straight path to the stage. I reach her just as she is about
to mount the steps. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasp. I
volunteer as tribute! (Charbonneau, 23). When Katniss volunteered to take her sister spot as a
tribute of district twelve this shows that Katniss will do something to not harm her family even
though this will harm her. I am an adult. Ever since I was little I watched my parents and the
other adults and wished for the day I would be one of them (Charbonneau, 19). When Cia
became adult after the graduation, she is so excited cause finally she is an adult so that mean
Cia can work and help her family to have a good life. This also important for my essay, because
the main theme of the book is to help the people by joining the test and if they passed the test
they will become leaders, have a job and learn university. Both of the Character work hard to help
and save their families. By volunteering to take the spot of her sister because Katniss is older than
her sister and also Katniss has more idea of hunting, finding food, and surviving than her sister,
whereas Cia work and study hard to be

  • 2. Justinian And Theodora And Byzantine Cultures In The... World Changers Justinian and Theodora ruled the Byzantine Empire from 527 to 565 AD, in their time they influenced not only the art of the era, but also the architecture and the church. Byzantine was an extremely diverse culture. It included members from groups around the entire known world at the time and this region brought them together (Brooks). This diversity did lead to conflict once Justinian became emperor due to his intolerance for what he considered paganistic rituals. This lead him to end the Academy and for him or even go so far so to put in place measures that limited the Semitic lifestyle. Theodora was one of the most powerful empresses of the Byzantine era and was wife of Justinian. In her youth she was a prostitute and dancer and this translated into her adulthood as her fighting for women s rights. Justinian claimed to be a Christian Emperor and accomplished many achievements with both the church and with law. The goal of their reign was to restore Rome to its previous vigor through their influence in the culture that was portrayed through mosaics and churches. While they did not achieve the full life of Rome again, they did influence it and bring it out of the darkness that it was beginning to fall into. There is a mosaic located in the San Vitale church located in Ravenna. This mosaic depicts Justinian and a court of clergymen in the chancel of the church. In this art there are many symbols. According to Khan Academy in this mosaic Justinian is seen in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Webster s dictionary, inquity is defined as gross injustice; a wicked act or thing and inequity is defined as injustice, unfairness; an instance of injustice or unfairness (Merriam Webster) Here Ms. Hill sets the tone for the rest of the poem. She explains that the unfairness of iniquity and inequity is a miserable feeling. She is talking directly to those that share her unfortunate circumstances of being treated unfairly in a state of misery. The pre verse that follows the hook brings the topic of religion into view. The first four lines in the pre verse symbolize Biblical meaning and give way to religious pretext. The verse says Smith3 Children...Eat your bread. Little children...eat your bread In the Bible, the bread is symbolic of truth. In John 6:35 there is a story of Jesus speaking to his people. • 13. The Party System, Republican Vs. Federalist Final Exam Part 2 _QC There are several reasons why the two party system, Republican vs. Federalist, worked so well in the 1790 s. First, when the political parties emerged in the 1790 s it was evident that their ideologies were vastly different. The Republican Party wanted a representative form of government that functioned in the interest of the people. This party, led by Thomas Jefferson, supported a limited central government, with individual states retaining a majority of the control. Jefferson s vision was for a nation of farmers, and farmers do not need big government to survive. They feared a large central government would take away the rights of the people. On the other hand, the Federalist Party, led by Alexander Hamilton, supported a strong central government that would pursue policies in support of economic growth, which in turn would provide the freedom the people wanted. Hamilton s followers also supported a diverse economy.1 It is important to note here however, that both parties knew they would have to become national parties in order to win any elections and both parties had followers in the north and in the south. There was no sectional divide in the parties. Second, the Constitution played an important role in the why the two party system worked so well during this period. The Constitution created a system of government, which distributed power across three levels of government, so that no one political body had ultimate power. The people ... The first stage describes unexamined ethnic identity and states that individuals fall into one of two categories based on their knowledge or influences of ethnicity. The two categories include, the diffusion category, when the individual has not previously encountered ethnicity as an issue or topic, and the foreclosure category, when individuals have collected information about ethnicity from their family and peers, also succumbing to such information without actually interacting with individuals of that ethnic population, (Phinney, 1993). For many individuals in this stage, ethnicity is not typically viewed as an issue, which in turn, leads to diffusion or foreclosure, while other individuals may impart strong ethnic views and seem to jump ahead to stage three. The second stage of Phinney s model has to do with the search or moratorium of individuals ethnic identity that describes when an individual encounters can alter how people view and become aware of their own ethnicity (1993). Phinney (1993), suggests that individuals may remain in this stage for a long period of time and may even experience rather intense emotions. Lastly, the third stage discusses ethnic identity achievement when individuals resolve their ethnic identity conflicts (Phinney, 1993). During this stage, individuals are informed about their own ethnicity, but are aware and appreciative of all ethnicities and suggests a positive, bicultural identity (Phinney, 1993). While this model may help to explain how individuals ethnic identity could influence the course of an individual s life and the choices they make entering adulthood, it is important to note that Phinney s model of ethnic identity development used research from minority adolescents, therefore the applicability of this model should be drawn into question when applying it to emerging adulthood ... Introduction Previous research have demonstrated that avoidance responding is influenced by shock intensity and duration (Leander, 1973; de Souza et al., 1984; Badia et al., 1973). Powell (1970) investigated the effect of two shock intensities in single and multiple avoidance schedules and found that the higher shock intensity was generally more effective in producing avoidance responding. Leander (1973) investigated the effects of shock intensity and duration on free operant avoidance. The results indicated that shock intensity and shock duration combine in a multiplicative fashion to determine the avoidance performance. The relation between shock intensity and shock duration suggested that longer shock durations can be substituted with lower shock intensities (Leander, 1973). The increased strength and magnitude of shock predicted higher rates of avoidance responding. However, there seems to be a minimum threshold for shock to establish and maintain avoidance responding. De Souza et al. (1984) found that there are individual differences in sensitivity to shock. There was a minimum shock intensity necessary to establish and maintain avoidance responding; and intensities higher than this minimum value had little or no effect on responding (de Souza et al., 1984). This suggests that once the range of minimum threshold sensitivity to shock for individuals in a group is identified, any shock intensity higher than largest value in the range can potentially establish and ... After combining these ingredients, this bowl can be put off to the side. Following this, one must beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract, in their given amounts, in a large mixer, or in a large mixer bowl. Neutrinos Research Paper Recently, scientists found the first known evidence of oscillating neutrinos, and have come to believe that they re getting very close to understanding these bizarre particles. FERMILAB LAUNCHES NEUTRINOS FARTHER This scientific advancement is the result of Fermilab s ongoing NOvA experiment, which hopes to uncover the secrets of those elusive particles called neutrinos. The study released its final results earlier this week. The experiment s gigantic particle detector is capable of detecting neutrinos fired from an impressive 500 miles distance, but the scientists are having a hard time forming significant conclusions from this recent success. It s incumbent for these quantum physicists to progress their theories because to understand which neutrinos are heavier or lighter will help us construct theories about how these particles accumulate mass. ... After being fired, the neutrinos oscillate 500 miles through the Earth s crust. When one of the neutrinos collides with one of the atoms in the detector, a signature trail of particles and light is released which is used to identify the neutrino as an electron, muon or tau. Most neutrinos shot out of Fermilab are composed of muons, but because of this experimental method, scientists can actually infer how many are transform in transit from muon to electron. In this case we were introduced in a true story of RadioShack Corporate Company. The story is about company s CEO David Edmondson and his fall as a chairman of it. He lied about his educational background that helped him to take the CEO seat from Len Roberts. One of the first signs was marked from the newspaper The Fort Worth Star Telegram who reported a huge article for him. On top of that, the RadioShack share prices were falling greatly right after the uncovering of his lies and underhandednesses. He apologized for making those mistakes and in order to make an improvement, the CEO s idea was to close a lot of stores. His behaviour violated the company s ethics. The main value of the company is to be responsible so as to create an environment that encourages employees to adapt the values of the company. He did not act according to the company s slogan which shows that the management was not value based. In general, Mr. Edmondson just failed to meet the company s standards by his unscrupulous behaviour. He has a lack of moral sense and the company does not permit or even encourage unethical practices. Top managers are role models which means that they have to set an example to their employees Although being socially responsible and ethical is a serious challenge nowadays, the company can not tolerate his performance. Although the rationale and choice differs from person to person, and is considered to be a private matter of personal preference, many people have experienced negative backlash and harsh criticism due to their individual likings. In general, sexual orientation is defined as: a person s sexual identity in relation to the genderto which they are attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual. While the definition seems to be straightforward and concise, the subject of sexual orientation encompasses much more than just the intensity of emotional and erotic attraction and response to members of the opposite sex, the same sex, or both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A person s sexual orientation is distinct from a person s gender identity and expression, but without gender identity and expression, sexual orientation would be hard to distinguish. The term gender identity, distinct from the term sexual orientation, refers to a person s innate, deeply felt psychological identification as a man, woman or some other gender, which may or may not correspond to the sex assigned to them at birth (e.g., the sex listed on their birth certificate). For example take a child who may be born a hermaphrodite or what is commonly known as an intersex. When birthed this child would have either male and female sex organs or sexual characteristics. Unlike those who are heterosexual, homosexual, or even bisexual, an intersexual in my opinion would have the most difficult time finding their sexual orientation, due to the fact at times they are given a gender identity based on their genital formation. When in the womb intersex infants can be spotted. The choice is up to the parent s then if they would like to assign gender to the infant. Some of the following diagnoses at times seem to be the logical reasons behind assigning gender to the infant. Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) is an inherited condition that technically can be found at birth and it does not allow the body to make enough cortisol. Which of these positions is true? Why? It can be agreed to a large extent that the power to control interpretations of texts are held by the consumers of culture operating within specific cultural contexts. He felt that while encoders, or the producers of texts, played an important role in communication, decoders, also known as the consumers who deduce the meaning of the texts, were marginally more prevailing. The encoding phase is where a common set of codes are used to put together a message but this phase takes note of the audience as both source and receiver of the message. An example would be the mindset of a journalist whose main purpose of producing an article is to provide the reader with something they desire to read. This implies that the consumers of texts heavily influence the producers into developing texts with messages that the reader wants to derive from them. Another reason why the consumers of texts hold power over the producers is simply the copious amount of texts that are made available to them. This increase in the choice between media and within media has led to development of narrowcasting and niche audiences. With the advent of mass consumerism and technology, the production of texts have skyrocketed, leaving the audience spoilt for choice. Raymond Bauer (1964) placed an emphasis on choice that was anchored in and ensured by an independent, even obstinate, audience. Once Jeanette was revealed to be a lesbian, Jeanette s mother blamed Jeanette s preaching and activism in the church as the cause since it was thought that preaching was a masculine job. In Oranges, Jeanette states: The real problem, it seemed, was going against the teachings of St Paul, and allowing women power in the church. In a religious society, people use religion to justify actions that subject the populace to servitude. If one were to question the power that commits society into classes of the ruled and the rulers, they would be dismissed as perverted, immoral agitators. Simply questioning the power structure will lead to the outcasting of an individual, analogous to what happened to Jeanette after her sexuality was revealed and she refused to give the church its due power by not repenting. She was cast out of the community and rejected by her mother; her church family; and, as she felt, her God. Jeanette s mother can be read as a metaphor of the duality of religious ideologies and the hypocrisy and contradictions presented in the Christian Bible. The expectation of the designers, Edouard Hoffman and Max Miedinger was to create a neutral typeface that had great clarity, no intrinsic meaning in its form and could be used on a wide variety of signage to remake a new identity apart from the past (). Originally named as Neue Haas Grotesk, the typefacewas changed to Helveticain 1960. Given the technical limitations of methods, the character weights, widths and spacing were inconsistent and compromised. Neue Helvetica, as the outcome of technological changes, was designed in 1983, represents a synthesis of aesthetics and technical refinements and modifications that resulted in improved usefulness: a number of characters were subtly changed to be more consistent and more harmonious with the overall design characteristics. For instance, the x height has been adjusted to appear visually the same in all weights. The x heights in previous versions were all the same, but since type tends to look shorter as it gets heavier, the new x heights compensate for this optical illusion. Besides, the crossbars on the lowercase f and t were widened to increase the legibility in text. The Loch, the Legend, and the Monster Essay example While the possible origins, attempts at proof, monsters throughout the world, and the tourist traps are interesting, the real phenomenon is not the supposed existence of a monster, but rather the way humans brains work. Sometimes all logic is abandoned as people attempt to make sense of the natural world. There are many theories in psychology that try to explain why humans believe in supernatural phenomena, including survival techniques from evolution, the McGurk effect, and the need for control. Anthropologists suggest that evolution has conditioned us to assume things are alive when we are not quite sure. Our brains do a remarkable job at making sense of it all. It seems easy enough to separate the sounds we hear from the sights we see. But there is one illusion that reveals this isn t always the case. The illusion occurs because what you are seeing clashes with what you are hearing (BBC). Our brains take conflicting information and try to make it all fit together. So if a person has spent a lifetime hearing stories about monster sightings in Loch Ness, if they go to Loch Ness they will almost be expecting to see the monster themselves, practically giving their eyes permission to see what they want to see. For example, many students, teachers, and community members believe the Tooele High School s auditorium to be haunted. Throughout my four years of high school, I spent a considerable amount of time in said haunted auditorium because I was a member of the THS Drumline. In order to prepare for our annual black light show, we would spend most of their rehearsals in the auditorium with the lights off, becoming accustomed to playing in the dark. Our band director would often attempt to communicate with the ghosts, and even though her attempts failed, the thought of ghosts made us jumpy for the remainder of practice. What he said was used in both the Marbury v. Madison case of 1803, and in the treason case of Aaron Burr. Any place that contains living and non living organisms (biotic and abiotic), that share the same space are a community, this is called an ecosystem. An ecosystem can occupy a large space in the environment, or a very small space. To make up an ecosystem, there must be an interrelationship between the abiotic and biotic components in the ecosystem; for example, there must be a series of food chains in order for the different species to survive in that particular ecosystem. Another definition of an ecosystem is: They consist of all the organisms in a community, their biotic and abiotic environments, and exchanges within and between each of these (Knox et al. 2010, p. 128). The purpose of this investigation is to thoroughly study an ecosystem, to expand the knowledge of many who wish to further understand the environment and its components.
