Procedural Law Research Paper
A variation of laws exist today in the United States that allow the protection of people rights, freedoms
and wrongdoings. Constitutional law was ratified from the Constitution in 1788 and adopted from the
Bill of Rights in 1791. Constitutional law gave lawmakers the power to create or define new crimes
and also put limits on the federal government. The Constitution established the framework on how the
government works, but the Bill of Rights was established to give individuals rights ad freedoms
against the national government. The first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution outlined rights
granted to American citizens such as, freedom of speech, press, religion and freedom of assembly. In
the terms of protecting citizens, the founders and the criminal justice system put limits on police
behavior. The Fourth Amendment puts limits on the admissibility of confessions obtained ... Show

Substantive law can be defined as the part of the law that creates, defines, and regulates rights ,
(Marion Oliver 2012) p.7. This law is typically focused on the rights afforded to all citizens under the
Constitution, precisely the rights found in the Bill of Rights. Protections such as unreasonable search
and seizures, the right to a public and speedy trial, the right against excessive bail, and cruel and
unusual punishments. Procedural law refers to the branch of law that prescribes in detail the methods
or procedures used in determining and enforcing the rights and duties of persons toward each other
under substantive law , (Marion Oliver 2012) p.7. Procedural law focuses profoundly on the
administrative practice in which citizen s rights are guaranteed. One aspect of procedural law is that
no one can ever be derived of their life, liberty, or property without due process. An example such as
the police must appear before a judge to secure a warrant prior to entering a person s property or to

Significance Of The Teutonic Knights
Teutonic Knights:
The Significance of the Battle of Tannenberg/Grunwald 1410
The history of the Teutonic Knights is well known throughout history as a military and religious order
that flew a white cross flag. According to Taylor, the flag that represented the Order was from the
Knights of Saint John, depicting a white cross with a black background (p. 340). The Order began
their legacy approximately in 1190 during the 3rd Crusade where their mission was to safeguard the
Hospital of St. Mary of the Teutons in the Holy Land. The reasons for the creation of the Teutonic
Knights was due to soldiers that were fighting battles were stricken with disease and sickness;
diminishing their numbers. Without having proper hospitals in foreign lands, it was imperative to ...

Hofbauer tells a story of the Order marching all night to surprise the flanking Lithuania Polish army
where they finally met up in the area of Tannenberg/Grunwald. Hofbauer further stated the Order was
exhausted from marching all night and were standing in the sun for hours the following day with full
battle gear; however, the opposing forces was standing in the cool forest waiting for the battle to start
(p. 35 37). Hofbauer additional relates that on the right flank of the battlefield, the Lithuanians
positioned themselves for a tactic that may have been the deciding factor in this battle. Once the Order
made contact, the Lithuanians broke formation and performed a planned retreat. This maneuver
suggested the Order was winning and they gave chase to the fleeing enemy. During the chase, the
Orders formation became week, sporadic, and unorganized allowing the Polish soldiers to fill the gaps
and destroy the Order (p. 36 37). The map of the Tannenberg/Grunwald battle depicts the battle

Gender Roles in Television Essay
Introduction
It is often said that the media and the arts are an accurate reflection of any given community. This is
especially true in American pop culture, where television shows depict the various stereotypes
attributed to men and women and the roles they play in society. House, a highly popular medical
drama that revolves around Dr. Gregory House and his diagnostic team, is a particularly good example
as it represents the true state of the traditional gender roles in American culture today by, both,
redefining and reinforcing them over the course of the show.
In Big Baby, the thirteenth episode of the current season, the show highlights these gender roles by
centering on the effects the recent adoption of Rachel has had on Dr. ... Show more content on

In Gender Role Behaviors and Attitudes, Aaron Devor sheds light on this stereotype:
Feminine characteristics are thought to be intrinsic to the female facility for childbirth and breast
feeding. Hence, it is popularly believed that the social position of females is biologically mandated to
be intertwined with the care of children and a natural dependency on men for the maintenance of
mother child units.
Dr. Cuddy s confusion and fears over raising her adopted daughter indicates a significant shift from
this centuries old stereotype ascribed to women a radical redefinition of traditional gender roles.
Mr. Sensitive
However, this redefinition is not limited to women alone. Dr. Wilson is perhaps the most diplomatic,
sensible, and level headed character in the entire show as he constantly strives to broker a truce
between the clashing personalities of Dr. Cuddy and Dr. House.
In this episode, he reveals his emotional and sensitive side as he attempts to console a tearful Dr.
Cuddy who was struggling with maternity. He returns to her house later on in the episode and attempts
to cheer her up by bringing Dr. Cuddy an age enhanced photograph of a teenage Rachel. He tries to
get her to understand that the motherly love develops over time. He then admits that the photograph
came with the frame and was not Rachel.

Difference Between Command Economy And Free Market Economy
INTRODUCTION OVERVIEW The major difference between command economy and free market
economy is the degree of government intervention and the reliance of market to determine prices
(Cherunilam, 2009). Command market is the system in which the market is centrally controlled and
regulated by the government; free market economy is the system demand and supply determine the
market prices and regulations. However, mixed economy is a combination of Command and Free
market economy (Bogolib, 2013); the market price is determined by demand and supply but the
government intervenes to ensure stability and economic growth. This intervention has a major impact
in the position of an economy in the business cycle. This report evaluates the advantages and
disadvantages of England being a mixed economy, and shows how the government intervenes in the
market. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The essay is fo ENGLAND S MIXED ECONOMY With mixed
economy there is always a variation to the degree of government intervention in different countries. In
England, where the mixed economy is utilized, there is a strong presence of both the private and
public sector. For instance, the grocery sector is controlled by the market; However resources are
allocated in the health sector by the government (Higson, 2011). Although there is a distinct private
sector, the system allows the government to exert control over the operations of businesses in the
private sector to achieve economic balance and stability (Barras,

Little Women And The Civil War
Little Women and the Civil War.
The Civil War served as much more than the fight for civil economies and a struggle to end slavery.
What lied in the foreground of the civil war are images of unions and confederate soldiers rummaging
through forest of the American South and thoughts of slaves gaining their long sought freedom.
However most people do not consider the lingering backdrop of the war. That would be the effects the
war would have on the changing gender roles. The new gender roles formed during the civil war
before we can determine the gender roles in the socially crucial time in American History, first we
should define what is meant by gender . Context of gender is more than just physical being. Gender
can be considered more abstract. This being said gender should be considered a preconceived notion
about how each of the two sexes should act or interact. An identity is likely exemplified by this
following quote from the mid 1800 s. Their (the Grimke sisters ) antislavery speaking tour of the
North encountered bitter criticism and resistance from men who charged that they had overstepped the
boundaries of their appointed sphere. (Elizabeth)
In the decades before the civil war it was entirely common for society and women themselves to
assign a more subordinate role to women. Women cooked cleaned, nurtured and everything society
deemed fit. The civil war however shaped women up to be much more than that. The civil war was not
the first time we had seen women

On 03 December 2015 at 1048 hours, a call from Casey s General Store located at 400 Broadway Ave,
Godfrey, IL 62035, was placed to 911. Billie Joe Anderson, a clerk at Casey s stated, A young woman
came into the store and asked me to call the police for a domestic dispute at 900 Indiana. She further
indicated that the woman said, The police needed to go to the 1300 block of Virginia where the
domestic dispute will be continuing.
Dispatch then contacted Madison County Sherriff s Department, located at 405 Randle St
Edwardsville, IL 62025, explained the situation and dispatched us to 1300 block of Virginia.
I, Deputy Grant told dispatch to get in contact with the Billie Joe Anderson from Casey General Store
and get more information. I told them to find out the unknown woman s name, (if known) what she
was driving, whom she was with, and what she was wearing, as well as any other information the cshe
could remember.
At 1048 hours, a second call came in to 911 from juvenile, Zach Michael Robins, 13 who reported a
domestic dispute at his residence located at 900 Indiana Ave, Godfrey, IL 62035. He stated, My
parents are fighting and heading to the 1300 block of Virginia Avenue where my mother s boyfriend

My Long Term Educational And Professional Goals
When beginning the psychology major, I was unsure of what my long term educational and
professional goals were. Now that I am in my senior year, I am still not positive about my path overall
path. However, I do have a plan that I feel will work perfect for me. I am reaching a time in my life
where I will be financial stable, be married, have a partner to share responsibilities, and have the
knowledge to be the best parent possible. I think it is important for one parent to be home before the
children enter preschool. Once the children are entered in school, I feel it would be a good time for me
to either go back to school or choose a career I can achieve with my bachelor s degree. If I were to go
back to school, it would most likely be to obtain a master s degree for counseling. I am very interested
in Central Washington University s Master Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. In ten years, if I
complete my masters, I see myself working with families, children or adolescents. This might be
either in an office setting or school setting. I know that I would not want to go to the client s home as
the primary setting.
There are several ways in which the courses I have taken at Central Washington University have
influenced personal growth for my educational goals. First, taking PSY 300 research methods, PSY
362 introductory statistics and participating in directed research has contributed immensely to my
personal growth. Writing a research proposal in PSY 300 was very

Business Example: Cold Stone Creamery, a premium ice cream chain, used Microsoft Dynamics CRM
to automate and streamline its birthday club program. In one year, Cold Stone Creamery was able to
increase membership from nearly 200,000 to over 1.5 million and to reduce direct marketing costs per

Robust workflow capabilities enable organizations to streamline time consuming processes such as
budget approvals, campaign execution, lead qualification, lead routing, RFP submission, sales follow
up, reference management, and case routing, just to name a few. The more these processes can be
automated, the more employees can focus on their core competencies. Another way to leverage
workflow capabilities is by automating end to end business processes. For example, workflow can be
used to take a holistic approach to sales by enforcing best practices from lead to final close, defining a
common sales methodology and streamlining execution. Organizations can model each stage in the
sales process, define an ideal

In Table [tab:test1_nnjd] DRAMMS was the only method generating deformation fields with non
positive Jacobian determinant. Though the number of violations was considered small when compared
to the total voxel number in the image. The ANTs method had none violation because it was built
diffeomorphic. Thanks to the proposed regularization control strategy, especially the Jacobian
determinant based filtering algorithm, the globalDct, pwAffine and pwBsp had zero violations.
Among the compared methods, the Elastix method ran the fastest consistently, as shown in Table
[tab:test1_time]. The Elastix s speed advantage can be attributed to the ITK platform, in which
implementation was extensively optimized. Though the ANTs method was also implemented based on
the ITK platform, its speed was probably slowed down by the symmetric diffeomorphic framework.
The diffeomorphic feature required a constant velocity field. The DRAMMS increased the feature
space thus having a higher computational cost. In addition, it was not implemented with any multi
processing technique.
In the intra subject experiment, we can conclude that the proposed approach demonstrated improved
performance when compared to the state of the art methods. Even though the proposed approach was
not the most efficient one, it provided a good balance between accuracy and computational cost.

Response To The Blank Page
Kathrine Christy

Unit 1 Response: On Storytelling We all commonly assume that we act freely, that we make our own
decisions without regard to the opinions of those around us. We all like to think we create our own
stories, and choose the way we tell them. However, many of us are probably at least tempted to
wonder if this a thing completely within our control, how much of it is, and how we can resist
attempts of others to write our stories for us, regardless of what we actually desire. Particularly when
it comes to women, the society around us is very sure of what it wants our stories to be, and who
should tell them and when. This is, of course, a process that begins early. As Foss, ... Show more

It is, of course, a story about storytelling, particularly the oral story telling through which humans
have passed down most of our stories for most of our history. Women in particular, even after the
advent of mass literacy, were barred for much of our history from education (and therefore the ability
to read), have been historically the torch bearers of oral culture. After all, garrulousness and gossip are
still stereotypes almost exclusively attributed to women. Of course an anti woman society sees these
qualities as bad things, rather than a means of shaping our reality and connecting to the people around
us, of forming and maintaining communities. The Blank Page is another tale in which a woman tries
to write her own story, despite the considerable pressures of royal life encroaching in upon her. Her
blank page represents the willingness of many women to resist the attempts to tell or change their
stories. Silence will speak says the old woman. Surely this nameless princess was shunned by some
and scorned by others, those who tried to use such disapproval to make her change her story. I myself
find comfort in the telling of her story by this mysterious old woman, comfort in the idea that stories
of women inimical to what men and society have to say about us can be preserved, if only through
word of mouth, by other

Background: Calorimetry is the science of measuring the heat of chemical reactions or physical
changes. Calorimetry is performed with a calorimeter. A calorimeter can be any container from a cup
to a Calorimeters need to be well insulated as calorimetry relies on the fact that temperature change
only occurs within the solution and that no heat escapes to the surroundings. That is why it is
important that calorimeters are well insulated. However, heat loss cannot be avoided so scientists,
when conducting experiments, need to choose the calorimeter that allows least heat energy to escape,
therefore, retaining as much heat within the solution

hydrochloric acid (HCl) and another with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) 2. Using one of the disposable
pipettes, measure 40cm3 of NaOH (1.0M) in the measuring cylinder you rinsed with NaOH and pour
this into Calorimeter #1 (Glass Beaker). Place thermometer inside solution 3. Using the other
disposable pipette, measure 40 cm3 of HCl (1.0M) in the other measuring cylinder 4. Now record
initial temperature of NaOH on the thermometer 5. Add the 40cm3 of HCl to the NaOH solution, close
the calorimeter with the lid (making sure that the thermometer sticks through the hole) and start the
stopwatch 6. Since the reaction is very quick, record the temperature every 5 seconds for 45 seconds.
If the temperature doesn t reach a stable value after 45 seconds, continue to take readings of

Drones versus U.S. Laws
Quadcopters or also known as aerial drones has quickly becoming one of the most popular trends in
video production or just as a recreational hobby. For videographers, quadcopters offers the ability to
take incredible shots that could take days of planning and higher cost with a helicopter as done before

this device for privacy violation, and terrorism. Over the past 2 years there has been numerous news,
articles, and blogs headlines expressing the unconformity of the US laws due to the negative potential
of civil flight drones. I consider there is sufficient laws and regulations to completely cover the

Legalizing Drugs
Why drugs should be legal? The reason is simple to legalize drugs, this makes them a legitimate
business, and just like any legal business they, must pay taxes. Legalization would end the
exaggerated well paid drug business, and bring to the surface the existing black market. The solution
would dramatically reduce the price of drugs, the high costs of drug production, and trading which
includes prohibition.
The legalization of drugs would cause fewer homicides around twenty five percent in the United

kind of substances will not have to steal or prostitute themselves to pay the high price of these
substances. Studies have shown that when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Public Health And Environmental Problems...
The Tijuana Estuary has been affected for many decades from the pollution that is brought by the
runoff from the Tijuana watershed. The Tijuana watershed is a large watershed with an area of 1,750
square miles. The Tijuana watershed is a unique watershed in San Diego because three fourths of the
watershed is in Mexico where a majority of the runoff flows across the border into the United States
where it is discharged into the ocean. The watershed is located in a dry environment that is considered
arid and only receives 10 inches of rain annually. A majority of the western basin is made up of
developed land while the eastern basin is mostly undeveloped land (The Tijuana River National
Estuarine Research Reserve 2014). The Tijuana watershed has a rapid population growth with a
majority of the Mexican residents living with insufficient utilities which causes unsanitary conditions
and accelerated erosion. Public health and environmental problems occur because Mexico does not
have strong environmental policies. Projects to help with these issues have been put into place to help
improve water quality. Most of the runoff that is collected in the watershed eventually makes its way
into the Tijuana Estuary and along the coastline which can result in economic problems because of
beach closures. These areas are also home to many endangered species. Many of the endangered birds
that live in the Tijuana estuary feed on plants and small fish that are in and around the watershed. The

Ishmael a Novel by Daniel Quinn
In his novel Ishmael, Daniel Quinn discusses the destruction and salvation of the world. By way of a
newspaper ad, an unnamed narrator meets a telepathic gorilla, named Ishmael, who had put up the ad
to find a pupil with a desire to save the world. Spurred by his benefactor s obsession with Nazi
Germany, Ishmael imparts on the narrator what he knows best: captivity (Quinn 24). Ishmael claims
humans of what are considered civilized cultures are captives of a story that in turn keeps the world
captive. Ishmael calls this large group Takers, while he calls everyone else usually hunter gatherers of
primitive cultures Leavers (Quinn 39). In order to save the world, Ishmael believes Takers need to be

Researchers of the University of New Mexico found the time of the extinction coincided more with
colonization by humans than climate change and that hunter gatherers, such as the Clovis people,
hunted the mammals for food (Lyons et al 339, 351 252; Wroe et al 320). Although it could be argued
that they were Leavers by not exterminating their competition, they could have instead been hunter

agricultural Takers view the soil of the world.
Despite this romanticization of the hunter gatherer lifestyle, however, Ishmael isn t urging people to

says settlement and, by extent, agriculture is a biological adaptation, which can compete with other
adaptations and, thus, is subject to the laws of competition (Quinn 135). If hunter gatherer Takers can
exist, agricultural Leavers could too, or as Ishmael bluntly puts it, The Leaver lifestyle isn t about
hunting and gathering, it s about letting the rest of the community live (Quinn 250). As Leaver groups
typically find a lifestyle that suits them, Takers could invent a new lifestyle, incorporating agriculture
and settlement, to avoid the destruction of the world.
As societies of today become more aware of their impact on the world, I feel we begin to work

Latino Culture Vs American Culture
For the past three years I have been learning about industry and underserved communities; the
political framework of organizations; and cultural differences between Latinos and Americans. The
purpose of this is to create social change at the systemic level to transform communities.
When learning about the US UK Fulbright Commission, the program was described as an exchange of
cultures to better the relations between the two nations. My initial intention for the US UK Fulbright
Commission was to expand my limited knowledge of the UK and to nurture the relationship between
the two global powers as an ambassador of the US. That changed during a presentation where I
learned about the Wales Summer Institute. Learning about the industry, politics, history, and culture of
another country would provide me with contrast to the structure and dynamics of the US.
When looking at the two countries geographically, Wales and the US are almost two extremes when it
comes to urbanization. One country is a leader in industrialization, the other far less. This is of great
interest to me because from my experience, rural areas are closer to nature than their ... Show more

Traditional values and customs from Mexico were instilled in me growing up despite being born and
raised in the US, resulting in a less than transformative experience when traveling to Mexico for the
first time. However, traveling to a country where a fifth of the population speaks a language I am
absolutely foreign to will be a different experience, especially if I spend six weeks immersed in the
culture. In those six weeks, I hope to bring with me some customs and traditions. Perhaps I may pick
up some Welsh or bring back some recipes. In addition to learning about Wales, I intend to understand
the relationship between Wales, the UK, and the US. I still wish to strengthen the relationship between

The Grand Canyon By Henry Morris
There is a famous saying that goes something like: if you take God out of the picture, there will be no
answer. However, many people take God or gods out of the many aspects of their lives. Now, if God is
mentioned in a debate or topic, it creates controversies and is specifically targeted by critics. Topics or
questions such as evolution or the origins of the universe have long been debated, studied, and
researched. Starting in the 19th century, evolution has been a long debated popular topic among many
people. A major 20th Century alternative belief to evolution is scientific creationism. This became
prevalent through the leading institute for promoting, forming, and researching the doctrine of
scientific creationism: the Institute of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the belief that the world is around ten thousand years old. The idea or belief is far from the
findings of science which calculate the age of the earth to be around five billion years old. The data
considered solid by scientists such as the astronomical measurements on stars, dating of rocks, and the
reconstructions of the history of life on the planet are based on the calculation that the earth is five
billion years old. Almost all of the things that science has researched and discovered are based on the
calculation that the earth is around five billion years old, but scientific creationism argues against all
of the proof and claims that the earth is young.
The age of the earth, in the eyes of scientific creationism, is calculated first by creating a genealogical
table. Starting with Adam, the man considered to be the first human, the genealogy should be studied
until the birth of Christ. This will give you the approximate age of the earth. However, there is another
controversial topic: the length of the day. Scientific creationism believes that the length of the day in
Genesis chapter one is a literal 24 hour day, however there are other theories that the day might be
longer and may not even be confined within the human realm.
The belief that the world is roughly ten thousand years old became widespread mostly because of the
scientific creationists convincing people

The Problem of Poverty in Famine, Affluence, and Morality...
Peter Singer is often regarded as one of the most productive and influential philosophers of modern
times. He is well known for his discussions of the acute social, economic, and political issues,
including poverty and famines. In his Famine, Affluence, and Morality , Singer (1972) discusses the
problem of poverty and hunger, as well as the way this problem is treated in the developed world.
Singer believes that charity is inseparable from morality, and no distinction can be drawn between
charity and duty. The philosopher offers possible objections to his proposition and relevant arguments
to justify his viewpoint. The modern world does not support Singer s view, treating charity as a
voluntary activity, an act of generosity that needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Singer (1972) is convinced that affluent societies should give away within the limits that do not slow
down their economic and social growth. Here, the concept of marginal utility comes into play.
According to Singer (1972), marginal utility is the level, at which, by giving more, I would cause as
much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (p. 241). In other words, it is
a fragile boundary between being a moral person and a person, who makes his dependents suffer for
the sake of saving some distant communities from poverty. Marginal utility is a measure of balance,
which implies that bad things are prevented without causing other bad things to happen. Singer (1972)
does not say that affluent societies should limit themselves to marginal utility, but they should avoid
causing something significantly bad to their families. Certainly, the world presented by Singer (1972)
differs considerably from the real order of things. In the real world, charity is not considered as a
moral duty. Rather, it is a voluntary act of generosity, which is subject to public approval and praise.
This position favors many society members, who can use charity as an instrument of manipulation to
achieve their own purposes. Meanwhile, a consensus is emerging that charity is a negative
phenomenon, which does not allow changing the situation from within. According to BBC (n.d.),
charity deals with the symptoms, rather than causes, of poverty and famines. It

The Significance Of The Black Bird In The Maltese Falcon...
In Dashiell Hammet s The Maltese Falcon, the black bird serves as a crucial link connecting Sam
Spade and Brigid O Shaughnessy. The black bird functions as the structural bond of Spade and Brigid
s relationship because it represents their greed and desire for wealth. Hammet points out that the
Brigid s greed for the bird causes her to utilize detective Spade as a tool: Help me, Mr. Spade. Help
me because I need help so badly, and because if you don t where will I find anyone who can, no matter
how willing? (Hammet 35). This quotation illustrates Brigid s submissiveness and dependency on Mr.
Spade to help her. But later she becomes the dominant figure when she utilizes her monetary wealth to
her advantage: She opened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the dashes put an exclamation point in how horrid of an idea it is to correlate the murder to her.
In the end however, Brigid is the one who killed Mr. Archer, but fails to pin it on Mr. Thursby. Spade s
instinct that she couldn t be trusted (Hammett 46) is true because she is able to bluntly lie without any
regard for others.
On the other hand, Sam Spade s tough exterior shows no sign of unequal treatment based on gender.
He treats women with the same petty attitude as he treats men: The hell it is, Miss O Shaughnessy, that
a couple of murders... coming together like this get everybody stirred up, make police think they can
go the limit, make everybody hard to handle and expensive (Hammett 33). This quotation shows his
lack of respect for Brigid who recently lied to him. He is mean and relentless in his pursuit for the
truth even when interrogating women. It is not until he falls in love with Brigid that his tough exterior
is broken down: Spade combed [Brigid s] hair back from her face with his fingers and said: I m sorry,
angel. I thought you d sleep through it (Hammett 92). Symbolically, this quotation signifies the
breakdown of Spade s exterior to show his sincere personality. In the end, Spade s high morals is
revealed when he turns Brigid in for killing Mr. Archer at the beginning of the book: At one point in
the scene, Spade tells her that if she gets a break,

Negotiations Between International Companies From American...
Most of the companies in the word have the need to negotiate to obtain the resources they require to
produce, transport or sell their services or products. Negotiation is a process that requires two or more
parts involve that need something that only the counterpart can offer. Is in that moment when the
negotiation begins, so the parties can find a solution that will satisfy the needs they have. In this
process, the parties may assume they have different interest that can go against their best interests,
based on the impression or stereotype they have of the counterpart. This mistrust may increase when
the parties are from different cultures or have different backgrounds, since negotiations are not only
between companies from the same country, but also with companies from different countries. An
example of this is the negotiations between international companies from American and Asian
countries, a situation that is increasing a cause of the globalization. An even though this cultures know
that negotiations is a significant component in business, there are differences in how this process is
approached by American and Asian cultures. First, the negotiation style of Asian and American
cultures varies depending on the background of the parties involved in the process. Asian cultures tend
to use the collaborative style of negotiation, this mean that they try to be cooperative and work with
the counterpart to find a solution, while American cultures tend to use competitive

An Age Of Reform Swept
An age of reform swept through our nation due to the unfairness that was happening in our country.
Many people fought for change for themselves and for others that involved problems like alcohol and
humane treatment for the insane. The radicals did their best for what they thought was right and
changed our country for the better. There were costs and benefits to many movements, groups, and
radical individuals who sought change between 1840 and 1877. They created conflict, chaos, and
changes that played a part in making many reforms for their era. One such group that created a change
was the American Temperance Society which was found in 1826. The American Temperance Society
directed its efforts to redeeming not only habitual drunkards but also the occasional drinker (Foner
440). By the 1830s they believed that they had changed the minds of hundreds of thousands of
Americans to give up on alcohol. By 1840, the consumption of alcohol per person had fallen to less
than half the level of a decade earlier (Foner 440). The benefit of this change came with a cost, the
temperance crusade and other reform movements aroused considerable hostility (Foner 441). Horace
Mann who was a lawyer and a Whig politician was the leading education reformer for his era. Mann
hoped that universal public education could restore equality to a fractured society by bringing the
children of all classes together in a common learning experience and equipping the less fortunate to

Analysis Of Petite Mort, By Hans Kylart
The Netherlands Dance Theatre showcased the classical ballet Petite Mort which contained music by
W.A. Mozart, was choreographed by Jiří Kylián, and was directed by Hans Hulscher. Petite Mort was
first created by Jiří Kylián in 1991 for the Netherlands Dance Theater. In French, Petite Mort means
little death , which is a French alternative commonly used for orgasm. In the ballet Kylián uses subtle
sexual signs. This is a seventeen minute long dance in which more than half is just between two
dancers one male and one female dancing together. The choreography contains six men, six women,
six foils, and six women s dresses. Overall, the scenery is dark. Everything in the back is black, the
dancers in their nude colored outfits can be seen only because of a large spotlight that stays on them.
Although Kylián uses some classical ballet elements such as graceful and flowing movements in
Petite Mort, this is clearly a contemporary ballet. Because contemporary ballet incorporates both
modern dance and classical ballet there are many similarities. Foot positioning is one of the key
distinguishing feature between the two. Most, if not all, classical ballet is performed in a turned out
position while contemporary is done in a turned in position. Turn in position allows for a greater range
of movement that is used in contemporary ballet. Another difference between the two is the absence or
use of pointe shoes. In classical ballet pointe shoes are vital in supporting the dancers

Hamilton Vs The Lion King
There are few shows in the history of Broadway and musical theatre that can claim to have ever had
the popularity and mass intrigue as Lin Manuel Miranda s smash hit, historical musical Hamilton. The
two hour rap based musical tells the story of America s founding father Alexander Hamilton from his
immigration to New York to rise in power amongst the first presidential cabinet and ultimate death at
the hands of a former ally. Gaining support from celebrities and President Obama only furthered the
popularity of the musical that continues to boast being sold out over a year in advance. And while this
mega popularity has proven an amazing achievement for Hamilton, there has been some question as to
whether or not Broadway and the world of music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, shouldn t the surge of new audience be able to fill up the empty seats in other shows? This is
unfortunately not the case. As explained by several producers, sheer cost from popularity may be
bringing down audience attendance. The top price is now $850, but the headlines trumpet scalper
prices of $5,000 and up. And it appears that people want to see Hamilton so much, they re willing to
pay those prices for seats months, even a year, in advance. What they re not willing to do is to spend
big on Hamilton and see something else in the meantime (Riedel). This type of splurging behavior has
left other shows in the dark and unable to fill seats forcing them to close. The most prominent example
being Shuffle Along, which despite featuring one of the most well known actresses on Broadway,
Audra McDonald, closed after only a few months (Playbill). The sweeping change is most noticeable
to the majority of the public however, through the Annual Tony Awards. While the nominations have
proven to be fairly spread across the board of shows, the sweeping wins of Hamilton have changed the
way in which producers seek to advertise and attract ticket buyers. So why large budget productions
have been able to afford the costs of added print materials, smaller less popular productions have
resorted to more consumer based TV ads

The Origin Of Life Arose From Earth
Oparin hypothesized that the origin of life arose from Earth in its primitive state, these conditions
allowed the production of inorganic molecules, which slowly transitioned into organic substances
(RF). The temperature of the earth would have also been several hundred degrees high to initiate
changes in hydrocarbons, correlating with Paneth s experiment (high temperatures to facilitate the
breaking of hydrocarbons into free radicals) (RF) and Russell and Hall s model. According to Russell
and Hall s model, life emerged in hot, reduced, basic and sulfuric waters opposed with colder, more
oxidized, iron bearing water. (Russell and Hall) They proposed the origin of life would have taken
place in the deep Hadean ocean floor. The difference between acidity, temperatures and redox
potential of the waters would have facilitated a gradient of pH, temperature and redox potential,
becoming sustainable over geological time scales, providing the continuity for conditions that were
favourable to organic chemical reactions required for the origin of life. This led to the formation of
membranes through biosynthesis and thus led to the creation of prokaryotes. The membranes of the
prokaryotes were believed to be composed of chains of ether linked isoprene units. Although it had
been hypothesized that chemical evolution of straight fatty acid through Fischer Tropsch like reactions
(Simoneit et al., 2007) many facts indicate that ether type lipid with branched chains with isoprene

The Accomplishment Of Space Travel
The accomplishment of space travel on 12 April 1961 marked the dawn of a new space era. Since
then, humans have advanced in technology and knowledge through space exploration. However,
although we watch video clips of astronauts enjoying a gravity free environment, there are challenges
in space, the greatest threat being the lack of oxygen and pressure. Furthermore, spaceflight has a
significant impact on the human body as extreme variations in temperature and intense radiation from
sunlight increase the chance of cancer. Significant adverse effects of long term weightlessness are
muscle atrophy (degeneration of cells) and deterioration of the skeleton (Kanas and Manzey 15).
Weightlessness is also known to cause the moon face appearance ... Show more content on

Human physiology is adapted to living in the Earth s atmosphere and a certain amount of oxygen to
breathe. The primary challenge faced by astronauts is the lack of oxygen and pressure in space. The
minimum partial pressure of oxygen that can be tolerated is 16 kPa (atmospheric pressure is 100 kPa),
below which the astronaut is in danger of dying from hypoxia, a medical condition in which the body
or a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply (Harding 27). In the vacuum of space,
gas exchange in the lungs continues as normal but results in the removal of all gases from the
bloodstream. Furthermore, blood and other body fluids boil at the pressure below 6.3 kPa, resulting in
the formation of gas bubbles in body fluids, a condition called ebullism (29). However, most
spacesuits provide sufficient oxygen pressure to sustain full consciousness. Another crisis that
astronauts face in space is the rapid compression (sudden drop in pressure of a sealed system). The
risk of fatal rupture of the delicate alveoli of the lungs is low, however, rupture of eardrums and
sinuses; shock caused accelerated oxygen consumption lead to barotrauma and hypoxia (29).
Astronauts without the protection of Earth s atmosphere and magnetosphere are exposed to high levels
of radiation. High levels of radiation damage lymphocytes (cells involved in maintaining the immune
system), causing lowered immunity in the astronauts. Radiation from cosmic rays significantly
increases chances of

The Movie Straight Outta Compton Directed By F. Gary Gray
Stats show that 80% civilians who were shot but not fatally injured and 78% of those killed were
minorities (Where is Social work). Reading these stats, one would think that these stats are from today
s world. However, that quote was from an article published in 1981; showing that America has not
changed for the better for minorities. In the film Straight Outta Compton, directed by F. Gary Gray is a
biopic film about the rise to fame and demise of the highly controversial hip hop group N.W.A
(Niggaz Wit Attitudes). Depicting the lives of its members, Straight Outta Compton address the issues
that were facing America during that period of time; most of them racial issues. The film addresses
issues such as Capitalism in terms of the group s manager Jerry Heller and the Recording Company s
representative. The film also briefly touches upon the misogyny in the hip hop industry and the
treatment of women while omitting some scenes. And finally, the biggest issue facing America at the
time and currently, Police brutality. The film shows the audiences how the group was treated because
of their skin color and their financial/living situation. For these reasons, the film Straight Outta
Compton offers a commentary on the racial issues facing America through the accounts of the group
N.W.A on issues such as capitalism, Police Brutality, and Gender in the film.

Saudi Arabia And Iran Relations Essay
Saudi Arabia and Iran are two countries that sit on opposite sides of the Sunni/Shiite divide, which can
be argued as being the most prominent issue the Middle East faces today. Saudi Arabia is
predominantly known to be a Sunni state, while Iran is largely inhabited by Shia Muslims. Both
countries aspire to be the hegemonic powers of the region. Ethnically, Iran is known to be a Persian
land, unlike Saudi Arabia that is known to be in the heart of the Arab world. These two countries are
separated by the Arabian Gulf and throughout the twentieth century and up until today, the
relationship between the two countries has been notoriously contentious. Within the past few years
especially relationships between the two states have been very fragile with Saudi Arabia ending
diplomatic ties early in 2016. The two states are strained over many issues of which are,
interpretations of Islam, oil export policy and hegemonic regional leadership.
The current relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia is contentious and competitive, however it can
be said that it has improved since the twentieth century when the two countries engaged in direct
conflict. The two countries have a very similar political agenda, which they use religion and faith to
fulfill. They use the rally around the flag concept in order to strengthen their political agendas through
their religious beliefs. The idea of a Sunni/Shitte divide is not as immense within the country, but there
is one. Saudi Arabia is more of a

Racist Beauty Standards
In this novel, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, the author depicts a culture in which white people and

Constitutional law was ratified from the Constitution in 1788 and adopted from the Bill of Rights in 1791. Constitutional law gave lawmakers the power to create or define new crimes and also put limits on the federal government. The Constitution established the framework on how the government works, but the Bill of Rights was established to give individuals rights ad freedoms against the national government. The first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution outlined rights granted to American citizens such as, freedom of speech, press, religion and freedom of assembly. In the terms of protecting citizens, the founders and the criminal justice system put limits on police behavior. The Fourth Amendment puts limits on the admissibility of confessions obtained ... Significance Of The Teutonic Knights Teutonic Knights: The Significance of the Battle of Tannenberg/Grunwald 1410 The history of the Teutonic Knights is well known throughout history as a military and religious order that flew a white cross flag. According to Taylor, the flag that represented the Order was from the Knights of Saint John, depicting a white cross with a black background (p. 340). The Order began their legacy approximately in 1190 during the 3rd Crusade where their mission was to safeguard the Hospital of St. Mary of the Teutons in the Holy Land. Hofbauer tells a story of the Order marching all night to surprise the flanking Lithuania Polish army where they finally met up in the area of Tannenberg/Grunwald. Hofbauer further stated the Order was exhausted from marching all night and were standing in the sun for hours the following day with full battle gear; however, the opposing forces was standing in the cool forest waiting for the battle to start (p. 35 37). Hofbauer additional relates that on the right flank of the battlefield, the Lithuanians positioned themselves for a tactic that may have been the deciding factor in this battle. Once the Order made contact, the Lithuanians broke formation and performed a planned retreat. This maneuver suggested the Order was winning and they gave chase to the fleeing enemy. During the chase, the Orders formation became week, sporadic, and unorganized allowing the Polish soldiers to fill the gaps and destroy the Order (p. 36 37). • 4. Gender Roles in Television Essay Introduction It is often said that the media and the arts are an accurate reflection of any given community. This is especially true in American pop culture, where television shows depict the various stereotypes attributed to men and women and the roles they play in society. House, a highly popular medical drama that revolves around Dr. Gregory House and his diagnostic team, is a particularly good example as it represents the true state of the traditional gender roles in American culture today by, both, redefining and reinforcing them over the course of the show. In Big Baby, the thirteenth episode of the current season, the show highlights these gender roles by centering on the effects the recent adoption of Rachel has had on Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Gender Role Behaviors and Attitudes, Aaron Devor sheds light on this stereotype: Feminine characteristics are thought to be intrinsic to the female facility for childbirth and breast feeding. Hence, it is popularly believed that the social position of females is biologically mandated to be intertwined with the care of children and a natural dependency on men for the maintenance of mother child units. Dr. Cuddy s confusion and fears over raising her adopted daughter indicates a significant shift from this centuries old stereotype ascribed to women a radical redefinition of traditional gender roles. Mr. Sensitive However, this redefinition is not limited to women alone. Dr. Wilson is perhaps the most diplomatic, sensible, and level headed character in the entire show as he constantly strives to broker a truce between the clashing personalities of Dr. Cuddy and Dr. House. In this episode, he reveals his emotional and sensitive side as he attempts to console a tearful Dr. Cuddy who was struggling with maternity. He returns to her house later on in the episode and attempts to cheer her up by bringing Dr. Cuddy an age enhanced photograph of a teenage Rachel. He tries to get her to understand that the motherly love develops over time. He then admits that the photograph came with the frame and was not Rachel. Dr. Wilson s genuine ... • 5. Difference Between Command Economy And Free Market Economy INTRODUCTION OVERVIEW The major difference between command economy and free market economy is the degree of government intervention and the reliance of market to determine prices (Cherunilam, 2009). Command market is the system in which the market is centrally controlled and regulated by the government; free market economy is the system demand and supply determine the market prices and regulations. However, mixed economy is a combination of Command and Free market economy (Bogolib, 2013); the market price is determined by demand and supply but the government intervenes to ensure stability and economic growth. This intervention has a major impact in the position of an economy in the business cycle. This report evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of England being a mixed economy, and shows how the government intervenes in the market. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The essay is fo ENGLAND S MIXED ECONOMY With mixed economy there is always a variation to the degree of government intervention in different countries. In England, where the mixed economy is utilized, there is a strong presence of both the private and public sector. For instance, the grocery sector is controlled by the market; However resources are allocated in the health sector by the government (Higson, 2011). • 6. Little Women And The Civil War Little Women and the Civil War. The Civil War served as much more than the fight for civil economies and a struggle to end slavery. What lied in the foreground of the civil war are images of unions and confederate soldiers rummaging through forest of the American South and thoughts of slaves gaining their long sought freedom. However most people do not consider the lingering backdrop of the war. That would be the effects the war would have on the changing gender roles. The new gender roles formed during the civil war before we can determine the gender roles in the socially crucial time in American History, first we should define what is meant by gender . Context of gender is more than just physical being. Gender can be considered more abstract. This being said gender should be considered a preconceived notion about how each of the two sexes should act or interact. An identity is likely exemplified by this following quote from the mid 1800 s. Their (the Grimke sisters ) antislavery speaking tour of the North encountered bitter criticism and resistance from men who charged that they had overstepped the boundaries of their appointed sphere. (Elizabeth) In the decades before the civil war it was entirely common for society and women themselves to assign a more subordinate role to women. Women cooked cleaned, nurtured and everything society deemed fit. The civil war however shaped women up to be much more than that. The civil war was not the first time we had seen women ... Now that I am in my senior year, I am still not positive about my path overall path. However, I do have a plan that I feel will work perfect for me. I am reaching a time in my life where I will be financial stable, be married, have a partner to share responsibilities, and have the knowledge to be the best parent possible. I think it is important for one parent to be home before the children enter preschool. Once the children are entered in school, I feel it would be a good time for me to either go back to school or choose a career I can achieve with my bachelor s degree. If I were to go back to school, it would most likely be to obtain a master s degree for counseling. I am very interested in Central Washington University s Master Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. In ten years, if I complete my masters, I see myself working with families, children or adolescents. This might be either in an office setting or school setting. I know that I would not want to go to the client s home as the primary setting. There are several ways in which the courses I have taken at Central Washington University have influenced personal growth for my educational goals. Though the number of violations was considered small when compared to the total voxel number in the image. The ANTs method had none violation because it was built diffeomorphic. Thanks to the proposed regularization control strategy, especially the Jacobian determinant based filtering algorithm, the globalDct, pwAffine and pwBsp had zero violations. Among the compared methods, the Elastix method ran the fastest consistently, as shown in Table [tab:test1_time]. The Elastix s speed advantage can be attributed to the ITK platform, in which implementation was extensively optimized. Though the ANTs method was also implemented based on the ITK platform, its speed was probably slowed down by the symmetric diffeomorphic framework. The diffeomorphic feature required a constant velocity field. The DRAMMS increased the feature space thus having a higher computational cost. In addition, it was not implemented with any multi processing technique. In the intra subject experiment, we can conclude that the proposed approach demonstrated improved performance when compared to the state of the art methods. Even though the proposed approach was not the most efficient one, it provided a good balance between accuracy and computational cost. The registration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Response To The Blank Page Kathrine Christy Professor Anne Vial Women in Literature 11 September 2015 Unit 1 Response: On Storytelling We all commonly assume that we act freely, that we make our own decisions without regard to the opinions of those around us. We all like to think we create our own stories, and choose the way we tell them. However, many of us are probably at least tempted to wonder if this a thing completely within our control, how much of it is, and how we can resist attempts of others to write our stories for us, regardless of what we actually desire. Particularly when it comes to women, the society around us is very sure of what it wants our stories to be, and who should tell them and when. This is, of course, a process that begins early. As Foss, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is, of course, a story about storytelling, particularly the oral story telling through which humans have passed down most of our stories for most of our history. Women in particular, even after the advent of mass literacy, were barred for much of our history from education (and therefore the ability to read), have been historically the torch bearers of oral culture. After all, garrulousness and gossip are still stereotypes almost exclusively attributed to women. Of course an anti woman society sees these qualities as bad things, rather than a means of shaping our reality and connecting to the people around us, of forming and maintaining communities. The Blank Page is another tale in which a woman tries to write her own story, despite the considerable pressures of royal life encroaching in upon her. Her blank page represents the willingness of many women to resist the attempts to tell or change their stories. Silence will speak says the old woman. Surely this nameless princess was shunned by some and scorned by others, those who tried to use such disapproval to make her change her story. I myself find comfort in the telling of her story by this mysterious old woman, comfort in the idea that stories of women inimical to what men and society have to say about us can be preserved, if only through word of mouth, by other ... The Tijuana Estuary has been affected for many decades from the pollution that is brought by the runoff from the Tijuana watershed. The Tijuana watershed is a large watershed with an area of 1,750 square miles. The Tijuana watershed is a unique watershed in San Diego because three fourths of the watershed is in Mexico where a majority of the runoff flows across the border into the United States where it is discharged into the ocean. The watershed is located in a dry environment that is considered arid and only receives 10 inches of rain annually. A majority of the western basin is made up of developed land while the eastern basin is mostly undeveloped land (The Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve 2014). The Tijuana watershed has a rapid population growth with a majority of the Mexican residents living with insufficient utilities which causes unsanitary conditions and accelerated erosion. Public health and environmental problems occur because Mexico does not have strong environmental policies. Projects to help with these issues have been put into place to help improve water quality. Most of the runoff that is collected in the watershed eventually makes its way into the Tijuana Estuary and along the coastline which can result in economic problems because of beach closures. These areas are also home to many endangered species. Many of the endangered birds that live in the Tijuana estuary feed on plants and small fish that are in and around the watershed. The ... Although it could be argued that they were Leavers by not exterminating their competition, they could have instead been hunter gatherer Takers believing all large mammals were something to be conquered and owned as agricultural Takers view the soil of the world. Almost all of the things that science has researched and discovered are based on the calculation that the earth is around five billion years old, but scientific creationism argues against all of the proof and claims that the earth is young. Singer (1972) is convinced that affluent societies should give away within the limits that do not slow down their economic and social growth. Here, the concept of marginal utility comes into play. According to Singer (1972), marginal utility is the level, at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (p. 241). In other words, it is a fragile boundary between being a moral person and a person, who makes his dependents suffer for the sake of saving some distant communities from poverty. Marginal utility is a measure of balance, which implies that bad things are prevented without causing other bad things to happen. Singer (1972) does not say that affluent societies should limit themselves to marginal utility, but they should avoid causing something significantly bad to their families. Certainly, the world presented by Singer (1972) differs considerably from the real order of things. In the real world, charity is not considered as a moral duty. Rather, it is a voluntary act of generosity, which is subject to public approval and praise. This position favors many society members, who can use charity as an instrument of manipulation to achieve their own purposes. There were costs and benefits to many movements, groups, and radical individuals who sought change between 1840 and 1877. They created conflict, chaos, and changes that played a part in making many reforms for their era. One such group that created a change was the American Temperance Society which was found in 1826. In French, Petite Mort means little death , which is a French alternative commonly used for orgasm. In the ballet Kylián uses subtle sexual signs. As explained by several producers, sheer cost from popularity may be bringing down audience attendance. The top price is now $850, but the headlines trumpet scalper prices of $5,000 and up. And it appears that people want to see Hamilton so much, they re willing to pay those prices for seats months, even a year, in advance. What they re not willing to do is to spend big on Hamilton and see something else in the meantime (Riedel). This type of splurging behavior has left other shows in the dark and unable to fill seats forcing them to close. The most prominent example being Shuffle Along, which despite featuring one of the most well known actresses on Broadway, Audra McDonald, closed after only a few months (Playbill). So why large budget productions have been able to afford the costs of added print materials, smaller less popular productions have resorted to more consumer based TV ads ... • 31. The Origin Of Life Arose From Earth Oparin hypothesized that the origin of life arose from Earth in its primitive state, these conditions allowed the production of inorganic molecules, which slowly transitioned into organic substances (RF). The temperature of the earth would have also been several hundred degrees high to initiate changes in hydrocarbons, correlating with Paneth s experiment (high temperatures to facilitate the breaking of hydrocarbons into free radicals) (RF) and Russell and Hall s model. According to Russell and Hall s model, life emerged in hot, reduced, basic and sulfuric waters opposed with colder, more oxidized, iron bearing water. (Russell and Hall) They proposed the origin of life would have taken place in the deep Hadean ocean floor. The difference between acidity, temperatures and redox potential of the waters would have facilitated a gradient of pH, temperature and redox potential, becoming sustainable over geological time scales, providing the continuity for conditions that were favourable to organic chemical reactions required for the origin of life. This led to the formation of membranes through biosynthesis and thus led to the creation of prokaryotes. The membranes of the prokaryotes were believed to be composed of chains of ether linked isoprene units. Although it had been hypothesized that chemical evolution of straight fatty acid through Fischer Tropsch like reactions (Simoneit et al., 2007) many facts indicate that ether type lipid with branched chains with isoprene units ... • 32. The Accomplishment Of Space Travel The accomplishment of space travel on 12 April 1961 marked the dawn of a new space era. Since then, humans have advanced in technology and knowledge through space exploration. However, although we watch video clips of astronauts enjoying a gravity free environment, there are challenges in space, the greatest threat being the lack of oxygen and pressure. Furthermore, spaceflight has a significant impact on the human body as extreme variations in temperature and intense radiation from sunlight increase the chance of cancer. Significant adverse effects of long term weightlessness are muscle atrophy (degeneration of cells) and deterioration of the skeleton (Kanas and Manzey 15). Weightlessness is also known to cause the moon face appearance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Human physiology is adapted to living in the Earth s atmosphere and a certain amount of oxygen to breathe. The primary challenge faced by astronauts is the lack of oxygen and pressure in space. The minimum partial pressure of oxygen that can be tolerated is 16 kPa (atmospheric pressure is 100 kPa), below which the astronaut is in danger of dying from hypoxia, a medical condition in which the body or a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply (Harding 27). In the vacuum of space, gas exchange in the lungs continues as normal but results in the removal of all gases from the bloodstream. Furthermore, blood and other body fluids boil at the pressure below 6.3 kPa, resulting in the formation of gas bubbles in body fluids, a condition called ebullism (29). However, most spacesuits provide sufficient oxygen pressure to sustain full consciousness. Another crisis that astronauts face in space is the rapid compression (sudden drop in pressure of a sealed system). The risk of fatal rupture of the delicate alveoli of the lungs is low, however, rupture of eardrums and sinuses; shock caused accelerated oxygen consumption lead to barotrauma and hypoxia (29). Astronauts without the protection of Earth s atmosphere and magnetosphere are exposed to high levels of radiation. High levels of radiation damage lymphocytes (cells involved in maintaining the immune system), causing lowered immunity in the astronauts. Radiation from cosmic rays significantly increases chances of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Movie Straight Outta Compton Directed By F. Gary Gray Stats show that 80% civilians who were shot but not fatally injured and 78% of those killed were minorities (Where is Social work). Reading these stats, one would think that these stats are from today s world. However, that quote was from an article published in 1981; showing that America has not changed for the better for minorities. In the film Straight Outta Compton, directed by F. Gary Gray is a biopic film about the rise to fame and demise of the highly controversial hip hop group N.W.A (Niggaz Wit Attitudes). Depicting the lives of its members, Straight Outta Compton address the issues that were facing America during that period of time; most of them racial issues. The film addresses issues such as Capitalism in terms of the group s manager Jerry Heller and the Recording Company s representative. The film also briefly touches upon the misogyny in the hip hop industry and the treatment of women while omitting some scenes. And finally, the biggest issue facing America at the time and currently, Police brutality. The film shows the audiences how the group was treated because of their skin color and their financial/living situation. For these reasons, the film Straight Outta Compton offers a commentary on the racial issues facing America through the accounts of the group N.W.A on issues such as capitalism, Police Brutality, and Gender in the film. Capitalism, economic system where the central topics include private property, accumulation and wage labour. In this film, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Saudi Arabia And Iran Relations Essay Saudi Arabia and Iran are two countries that sit on opposite sides of the Sunni/Shiite divide, which can be argued as being the most prominent issue the Middle East faces today. Saudi Arabia is predominantly known to be a Sunni state, while Iran is largely inhabited by Shia Muslims. Both countries aspire to be the hegemonic powers of the region. Ethnically, Iran is known to be a Persian land, unlike Saudi Arabia that is known to be in the heart of the Arab world. These two countries are separated by the Arabian Gulf and throughout the twentieth century and up until today, the relationship between the two countries has been notoriously contentious. Within the past few years especially relationships between the two states have been very fragile with Saudi Arabia ending diplomatic ties early in 2016. The two states are strained over many issues of which are, interpretations of Islam, oil export policy and hegemonic regional leadership. The current relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia is contentious and competitive, however it can be said that it has improved since the twentieth century when the two countries engaged in direct conflict. The two countries have a very similar political agenda, which they use religion and faith to fulfill. They use the rally around the flag concept in order to strengthen their political agendas through their religious beliefs. The idea of a Sunni/Shitte divide is not as immense within the country, but there is one. Saudi Arabia is more of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Racist Beauty Standards In this novel, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, the author depicts a culture in which white people and white lifestyles are idealized and the standards for beauty are very generalized around whites. In this novel, the author questions the truths by which white standards of beauty are held and depicts the impact and growth it has on her characters and the long term effects of these beauty standards . Claudia was much better able to handle rejecting the white, middle class America s standards of beauty. Claudia and Pecola are similar in the sense that they both suffered from racist beauty standards and abuse growing up. However, Claudia was always the stronger of the two and did not feed into the standards of beauty set in her society. Frankly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I couldn t join them in their adoration because I hated Shirley (Morrison, 35). This quote from Claudia s perspective shows her distaste for Shirley temple and Pecola and Frieda s love for her. Pecola becomes so obsessed with the Shirley Temple cup that she drinks milk in excess just to use the cup with her on it. Pecola is particularly fascinated by Shirley Temple s big blue eyes. Pecola after a life time of obvious abuse, belittlement, and racist has very low self esteem and wants to be everything she is not. She strongly connects beauty with desire and love, she starts to believe that if she had blue eyes, all the cruelty and hatred she gets in her life, would disappear. This unrealistic and hopeless desire for blue eyes, eventually leads to immeasurable madness. It had occurred to Pecola some time ago that if her eyes, those eyes that held the pictures, and knew the sights if those eyes of hers were different, that is to say, beautiful, she herself would be different (Morrison, 46). Pecola is finally granted her overwhelming want for blue eyes. When she is finally granted her wish for blue eyes, she receives it in a perverse and darkly ironic form. She is only able to be granted blue eyes in exchange for her sanity. Pecola loses her mind and ultimately her insight into the outside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
