Poverty In A Thousand Splendid Suns
An experience is a personal involvement or observation of an occurrence by a person. Every day,
various people experience different events of their lives and learn from these many undertakings.
People, however, cannot experience everything, but rather only experience what they undergo.
Nevertheless, for others to distinguish different accomplishments that they cannot be a part of,
many learn from the experiences of others. In the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by
Khaled Hosseini, characters are exposed to life changing events that affect themselves and the ones
around them. In the text, the characters help readers in becoming familiar with the experiences that
they are not accustomed to, as it demonstrates the vast affection people... Show more content on

Firstly, the novel displays the effects poverty has on the characters well being. For example, in
the book, Aziza s ribs [begin] to push through the skin [...] and her complexion [turns] the color of
weak tea. [...] [Furthermore,] Zalmai [lies] around the house, eyes dulled and half closed, or in his
father s lap limp as a rag (Hosseini 272). This exhibits the change in the characters health as poverty
distresses them. As there is an insufficient amount of needs to support the family, the novel shows
that the children begin to become weak and skinny and lose the vitality they had beforehand. After
scarcity, readers view the harsh circumstances poverty brings upon the family with the absence of
necessities. Readers are able to understand the experience of poverty as they grasp on how the
children s well being has altered. In addition, the stress of living in scarcity collapses personal
relationships. For instance, after the fire, Rasheed [is] home almost every day. He [is] fired
from the kebab house [...] because he and a customer [get] in a scuffle [...] [After he is home],
he [finds] fault with Laila, the way she [dresses], the way she [combs] her hair, her yellowing
teeth (Hosseini 271). Ultimately, Rasheed presents the opportunity to receive money for the
family, but fails to work in a mannerly way. Once Rasheed is home, he believes Laila is
unkempt. This shows an unfair conviction because they cannot afford to maintain a pleasant
appearance, and it is his fault they cannot pay for things because he is the only one that can
obtain a job, as women cannot work. This shows an effect on personal connections as readers are
able to observe an experience of a personal relationship weakening because of poverty and
Rasheed s unfair thoughts due to lack of money. Overall, the book displays the experience of being
affected by poverty through the change of the characters health and the breakdown of

Dementia And The Power Of Music Therapy By Steve Matthews
In the article Dementia and the Power of Music Therapy by Steve Matthews, argues that music
therapy has positive effects on dementia, in terms of non pharmacological treatment, inexpensive in
health budgets, and neurocognitive benefits for patients. Matthews starts off the article by
describing current tendency of dementia in western nation. He mentions that dementia is one of
fast increasing disease in United States, Canada, UK, Europe, and Australia. Additionally, Australian
government s investment for dementia raised up to third highest in national health budgets, in the
wake of cardiovascular disease and cancer (Matthews 2015). Following that, there is need for music

music therapy delay the progression of disease and slow neurodegeneration. Lastly, therapy

As shown in Henry s case, music therapy has significant benefits for dementia patients, with regard
to both physiological and intellectual perspectives. Following his case, the author goes on to
discuss music therapy from general viewpoint. According to the American Music Therapy
Association, Music therapy is the planned and creative use of music to attain and maintain health
and well being (Mattews, 2015). This definition is open ended, which illustrates that music therapy
is not only restricted for treating dementia, but also designed for variety range of population,
including autism, anxiety disorder, and mental disorder patients. Furthermore, Matthews says that
music has four aspects which contributed to music therapy: communal nature of its delivery, the
rhythmic quality of composition, the entrancing effect of music s mood, and the physiological
arousal accompanying listening (Matthews, 2015). Especially, people with dementia more likely to
recall the rhythm, melody of music that they used to listen when younger. Thereupon, the power of
music plays meaningful role to health care setting.
Matthews s argument is fairly

Circus Persuasive Speech
Summarize Written Text 1. A herd of elephants flies past you at sixty miles perhour, followed by
a streak of tigers, a pride of lions, and a bunch of clowns. What do you see? It must be a circus
train! One of the first uses of the circus train is credited to W.C. Coup. He partnered with P.T.
Barnum in 1871 to expand the reach of their newly combined shows using locomotives. Before
circus trains, these operators had to lug around all of their animals, performers, and equipment
with a team of more than 600 horses. Since there were no highways, these voyages were rough
and took a long time. Circuses would stop at many small towns between the large venues.
Performing at many of these small towns was not very profitable. Because of these limitations,
circuses could not grow as large as the imaginations of the operators. After they began using circus
trains, Barnum and Coup only brought their show to large cities. These performances were much
more profitable and the profits went toward creating an even bigger and better circus. Multiple
rings were added and the show went on. Today, Ringling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You guessed it: it s a ninja! Perhaps the only thing more elusive than a ninja is the source of the
word ninja. In China ninja are more often referred to as shinobi. The Chinese word shinobi, short
for shinobi no mono, means to steal away. The word shinobi appears in Chinese poems as far
back as the eighth century. So how did this word become ninja? Some believe that during the
Edo period in Japan, the word shinobi no mono was appropriated and transformed to the very
similar word ninja. This probably happened because it was a lot quicker and easier to just say
ninja. It is difficult to see how such a transformation could have occurred when we look at the
words using our alphabet, but if you look at the kanji representing these words, it may make more
sense to

Relationship Between Photography In Literacy And Picturacy...
I feel as if we have asked the question, Is photography an art? and Can photography be considered
a type of language? many times in this quarter and we still cannot get a direct answer. Additionally,
the truth of the matter is that we will never really know if it is because people have different
opinions of what is art. For instance, in Literacy and Picturacy, Heffernan explains that there is
something real behind every photograph. He explains that photographs allows to see the story that
is being told instead of simply reading it. Earlier in the quarter we also read On photographyin
which Barthes claims that photography is not an art because it is simply an imitation of reality. In
other words, he is saying that photography is just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the book, Kracauer has classified the properties of the motion picture in two.
The first is the basic property. Here, Kracauer explains that the basic property of film is very
similar to that of photography. The reason is because they both try to record and imitate physical
reality. However, the only difference is that films record the world as it is evolving in times
whereas photography remains the same and frozen in time. Furthermore, he explains that it is this
ability of the motion picture to capture movement that makes it good for recording events and
protecting them. However, it cannot be considered as making use of the creative potential of the
medium. As I was reading this part of the book, I realized that maybe this is what Barthes meant
when saying that photography is only an imitation of reality. Taking of picture of something is not
considered art because it does not take much for the photographer to take the photograph. However,
I still believe that he is wrong. There is so much that goes into taking a photograph. For instance,
lighting and the position of the camera are very important factors in

Impact Of Globalization In Nigeria
The term globalization gets mixed in conversation without even slipping our brains what it is.
But what is it? Globalization is the thought of corporations transferring employment overseas to
those who will work for less. However, globalization can be expressed even wider, which
incorporates numerous influences. With that being said, the most fitting meaning would be that
globalization is the collapse of barriers among countries permitting labor, goods, and services to
be freely exchanged. Consequently, one feature that appears to be debatable is the how
globalization has moved the prosperity of others. For instance, subcontracting has led to a massive
majority of employment for people in underdeveloped countries giving the ability to gradually
creep out of poverty. But yet there are still additional countries that observe their poverty rate rise
steeply. We will take a provocative look at globalization, where it improves a country such as
Nigerias economy. We will talk about how things like Nigeria s use of Credit, reliance on foreign
technologies, lack of raw materials, production of substandard goods, government policies and
education comes into effect on their actual rapid growth in the economic aspect.
The organization of the Nigerian economy is a characteristic of an underdeveloped country. Over
half of the gross domestic product (GDP) is accounted for by the primary sector with agriculture
remaining to play a significant part. The oil and gas sector, in particular,

Analysis Of George Orwell s Politics And The English Language
Political press can play such crucial role in the viewpoints of citizens; with an impact like this, it

Language he argues that Politicians have manipulated the English language, thus making their
points euphemistic. He explains that these that, ...it is broadly true that political writing is bad
writing and results to a politician being unconscious of what he is saying (Orwell). Even though
this essay was written in 1946, Orwell s six basic rules are still broken. For instance, Donald Trump

opinion on immigrants; however, Orwell includes the key idea that, A newly invented metaphor

technically dead (Orwell). Metaphors have been constantly twisted to aid a concept that the
speaker or writer is trying to make clear. This leads to the politician, inventing phrases for
themselves (Orwell). Another metaphor Trump presents in his speech is We re like the big bully
that keeps getting beat up (Trump). This metaphor is a key example of what Orwell would deduce
as pieces of clumsiness . Adding in metaphors can save effort, yet only benefits the speaker and not
the listener. Behind this twisted phrasing, it makes the Politician look like he is not initially
interested in what he is saying. Orwell stresses strongly, that metaphors are used to created imagery

How Did Nietzche Contribute To Religion
Friedrich Nietzche was born in Rocken. He spent much of his time alone, reading the Bible.
Nietzsche s father died in 1849. The young man withdrew deeper into religion.
Friedrich received a scholarship to Schulpforta, an elite prepatory school with only 200 students, in
October 1858. The scholarship as intended to fund Nietzche s training for the clergy. His mother,
Franziska, and his young sister, Elizabeth, are dedicated to Friedrich s success, certain of his future.
At the age of 18,Nietzsche lost his faith in traditional religion. His faith received a fatal blow when
he found philosophy. In 1865 Nietzsche discovered Schopenhauer s World as Will and Idea. The
work forever challenged Nietzsche s view of the world. Schopenhauer s ... Show more content on

Nietzsche found it possible to serve as a medic, allowing him as close to medicine as his nature
would ever allow. As he quickly learned, Nietzsche did not like the sight of blood, and the
suffering of others made him ill. He eventually fell ill, possibly due to stress, and was sent home.
The Birth of Tragedy out of the Spirit of Music was published in 1872. With the publication of
The Birth of Tragedy, Nietzsche returned to Baasle to lecture. The work became a subject of
ridicule in academic circles, but the nobility and nationalists loved it. Nietzsche became a celebrity,
standing he put to work on behalf of his friend Wagner. The two men were able to convince the
government to fund the construction of the Bayreuth theatre, which would feature Wagner s works.
The Bayreuth was completed in 1876. On August 12, 1876, the Emperor arrived to hear Wagner
s The Ring of Nibelung, a work Wagner considered his masterpiece. To his dismay, Nietzsche
found he hated the work. He made an excuse to depart, and promptly took a vacation to reconsider
his opinion of Wagner s music and Prussian culture in general. At least Nietzsche was not alone:
the long multi day performance proved a failure financially and in terms of attendance. Wagner s
public star faded...at least for a bit.

What Was The Role Of Women In Nineteenth-Century England
Introduction
A conflict stirred among the sexes during the nineteenth century that reverberated through all
aspects of life from science to literature. The advent of the Industrial Revolution in the late 1700s
and the introduction of capitalism sparked the discussion on the nature and role of women as
society shifted from a land centered economy to an urban workforce. This argument gained such
notoriety it commonly became known as The WomanQuestion, and it covered aspects of the legal
and political rights of women, education, and economic opportunities. Such was the discussion that
scientists, philosophers, and biologists like Charles Darwin, Herbert Spencer, and Patrick Geddes
entered the debate with each offering ideas on the role women ... Show more content on

He called for perfect equality among the sexes (Mill 3). Then, in 1871, Charles Darwin published
The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex. In this book, he discusses topics ranging
from human evolution, as in his On the Origin of Species, to the differences between the sexes.
The latter topic being the most prominent in the discussion on The Woman Question and what
roles women were to occupy. British philosopher Herbert Spencer suggested everyone had basic
rights, including women, and that these rights were necessary for social progress and those basic
rights fell in with cooperation among the sexes rather than competition (Sweet). Similarly, Patrick
Geddes, a Scottish biologist and follower of Spencer, theorized that male and female
characteristics were complementary and must be kept in balance. His views supported, to some
degree, the separation of men and women into separate spheres not because the sexes were unequal
but because they were and needed ways in which to express their strengths. Interestingly enough,
these types of ideas and theories surfaced in the literature of the Victorian era, namely that of

German Women During The World War II
In the aftermath of World War II, German civilians become the target of hatred due to the
Holocaust. The mass rapes that happened to German women during the occupation of Berlin are
not remembered due to the hatred of the German population as a whole. In her diary A Woman in
Berlin, Anonymous catalogues her perspective of the mass rapes. In order to cope effectively with
the rapes and to survive, Anonymous manipulates her sexual assaults to become a method of
obtaining necessary goods because she, like other women, could not depend on men.
Anonymous exploits rape as a tool of survival in order to cope with her mass sexual assaults. After
the initial rape, the author describes herself as feeling numb, not with disgust, only cold... [and
sinking] into the ground (Anonymous 64). These feelings of emotionlessness and defeat are
common for rape survivors to have. While dealing with these strong emotions, some victims cannot
cope with their assault and turn to binge drinking. Anonymous initially drinks to the point of
oblivion when she only remembers bits and scratches of her night (Anonymous 71). She then
understands later on that drinking copious amounts would not aid her and she tries to better her
situation.
The author learns an unorthodox mechanism of survival through the aftermath of her first sexual
assault. To compensate for his viscous assault, the author s rapist, a Red Armysoldier, pays her a
crumpled pack of Russian cigarettes (Anonymous 64). Knowing that the Red

Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in
freedom, most people find sin. This might sounds like a section from a travelling guide, but it also
describes why we as a society cannot gain complete freedom. Complete Freedom requires all
negative repercussions from individual s actions to be unpunished, making it impossible to allow
any form of justice into the community, turning it into a den of criminals. Due to that, a
government with security force to help regulate rules is necessary to keep the whole country going

Who Invented Gunpowder
Gunpowder was one of the most revolutionary inventions in warfare. It shifted many different
aspects of war including weapons, battlefield tactics and fortifications. Even though gunpowder and
gunpowder weaponry originated from China it was the Europeans who utilized and invested the
most into gunpowder technology. This investment in weaponry is what made Europeans more
powerful than the rest of the world. By the 15th, 16th and 17th century the Europeans had surpassed
the Chinese in the construction of firearms. One of the reasons why the Europeans drove this
innovation was because of the amount of wars that were fought in Europe during this time period.

The Importance Of Special Needs In Special Education
I am currently teaching a practicum where my students (who are actually teachers getting their
master s degree in special education) are teaching students with special needs. Some of these
teachers are encountering students with autism for the first time and have felt some anxiety about
this so they asked for some ideas and strategies to help them in the classroom. These are some of
the suggestions that I have given them that I have used in the classroom successfully.
1. Use Task Analysis very specific, tasks in sequential order.
2. Always keep your language simple and concrete. Get your point across in as few words as
possible. Typically, it s far more effective to say Pens down, close your journal and line up to go
outside than It looks so nice outside. Let s do our science lesson now. As soon as you ve finished
your writing, close your books and line up at the door. We re going to study plants outdoors today .
3. Teach specific social rules/skills, such as turn taking and social distance.
4. Give fewer choices. If a child is asked to pick a color, say red, only give him two to three choices
to pick from. The more choices, the more confused an autistic child will become.
5. If you ask a question or give an instruction and are greeted with a blank stare, reword your
sentence. Asking a student what you just said helps clarify that you ve been understood.
6. Avoid using sarcasm. If a student accidentally knocks all your papers on the floor and you say

knowledge which travelling and other people can teach them.
When reading the novel it is clear that Axel identifies with the text s criticisms of intolerance.
Axel disagrees with the intolerance toward things different from the normal, as he himself is not
physically the same as others in Waknuk. Axel Morton however is not a deviant because his
abnormality was obtained after birth in a sailing accident. He was standing in the customary way,
with much of his weight upon the thick stick he used because his leg had been wrongly set at sea
. This quote reveals Axel Morton s difference from the norm, and although it is not a huge
variation, he still had to cope with that difference, and his inability to perform certain tasks that
others could do. Although this difference from the norm was not deviational, he was still able to
sympathise with true deviants, as he knew what it was like to be different to others around him.
His difference form the norm was not the only reason for which he sympathised with deviants, but
his knowledge also of other places and people, allowed him to have an open mind about certain
viewpoints, which others did

Abigail Adams Analysis
The author of this document is Abigail Adams, a white female that is married to John Adams. She
lives in a time where women have no form of representation, and they live in the shadow of men.
Because of this, Abigail takes up a woman s traditional role and performs activities such as
manufacture clothing for her family, soap making, creating gun/cannon powder for her husband,
and other chores for the benefit of her household (Adams, Paragraph 12). Fulfilling this role has
shaped her by securing her inferiority to her husband and other males. She as a womanlacks power
both socially and politically when it comes to the opposite gender; however, it is just this that has
cultivated her attitude towards her government, the malesex, and even her own spouse. By
requesting that her husband remember to give rights to women, it shows that she was brave
enough to present her opinions even though they were unwelcomed (Adams, Paragraph 9). She is
headstrong in the sense that she is willing to rebel if she does not receive the proper
representation that she is asking for. Also, by mentioning that the women would rebel, Abigail
displays her intelligence because she could foresee the inevitable future if women s rights were
not improved (Adams, Paragraph 9). She sees the world for what it is, unjust. Moreover, her social
and political inferiority did not result in ignorance. Based on her vocabulary, writing style, and
comprehension/expression of such complex ideas, she reveals that she is

My Career Goals
Success, failures, experiences, trials, and tribulations usually shape up the life and career of a

life.
I hail from a city called Chennai from the South of India and I grew up in a family rich in
traditions and orthodoxy. An age long tradition in India dictates children to decide on a career

addition to the audit work, I closely observed other things happening in the company and its

me to learn about the management and the running of a company. There was never a dull moment
as I grasped a lot of knowledge from what they did. My stint in the event management company
sowed the seeds of my enthusiasm for organization and management. Thereafter, I was dreaming of
running my own company and thoroughly enjoying the work. Although my father s efforts could

excitement in knowing that the field of accountancy, in a way, was chosen for me, but a career in
management would reflect my choice. Furthermore, this choice was purely motivated by my
passion and enthusiasm.
In the next couple of days, a bone curdling thought that I could have committed a blunder by
continuing the Chartered Accountancy profession dawned on me. Muddled and terrified, I
prepared myself to verbalize my decision to my parents. I knew that they would not take it very

Age Related Changes that Occur in the Cardiovascular System
In the normal conduction of the heart the electrical impulse starts in the SA node, also called the
pacemaker of the heart. The electrical impulse travels through the right atrium and through the
Bachmann s bundle into the left atrium. This stimulates the atria to contract. Next the signal travel
to the AV node. The AV node slightly delays the signal. This delay is needed for the heart

signal then travels to the Bundle of His where it is split into the signals going to the right and left

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition caused by the weakening of the heart and the
cardiovascular system. It develops when the heart is not able to pump enough blood. Some causes
of CHF would include, narrowed arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle coronary artery
disease, past heart attack, or myocardial infarction, with scar tissue that interferes with the heart
muscle s normal work, high blood pressure, heart valve disease, primary disease of the heart muscle
itself, called cardiomyopathy.
High blood pressure is the leading cause of CHF in the elderly. High blood bressure put high
demands on the heart to pump blood. This prolonged demand weakens the heart muscle over
time. The heart doesn t pump as efficiently as it should, the blood slows down and less blood is
pumped. The blood returning to the heart backs up in the veins forcing fluid from the blood
vessels into tissues of the feet and legs. The swelling that results is call edema .

The Characteristics Of Creon For King In Oedipus The King
Creon for King
All is not well in Thebes. A mystery is in the process of being solved as the people of Thebes
suffer. In Sophocles Greek tragedy, Oedipus Rex, Thebes is being punished by the gods for a
crime committed far in the past. The city of Thebes is cursed with a plague until the murderer of
Laius is discovered and banished from the land. As Creon and Oedipus work to save Thebes, their
different qualities show who is a better fit to be king. Oedipus saved Thebes once from the
sphinx; however, Oedipus qualities of being arrogant, intense, and stubborn cause him to foil
with Creon s character traits of being selfless, calm, and forgiving. According to Merriam Webster,
a leader is someone who leads or guides. Because Creon s character traits portray a desirable leader,
Creon is a better fit to be king of Thebes.
Oedipus is quick to display his arrogance shortly after being informed of the troubles facing
Thebes, which highlights Creon s selfless actions. As the play opens, a plague is upon Thebes.
Broken but hopeful, people cling to the altars of the gods. Oedipus appears and evaluates the
scene of people kneeling at the altars, pleading for deliverance from the hard times bearing
Thebes. Oedipus then confidently announces, Here I am myself you all know me, the world
knows my fame: I am Oedipus (7 9). By Oedipus making this bold remark, he is expressing his
pride in himself. As King of Thebes, Oedipus is looked up to in times of hardship to guide the
people, but in this part of the play, his arrogance is more notable than his heroic actions. Later,
while addressing the citizens of Thebes, Oedipus shares, I acted at once. I sent Creon my wife s
own brother to Delphi Apollo the Prophet s oracle to learn what I might do or say to save our
city (81 84). In similar words, Oedipus sent Creon to go to the Oracle instead of going himself.
Without Creon being selfless and journeying to Delphi to consult the Oracle Thebes would have
no guidance from the gods on how to rid the plague from Thebes. Because Creon was selfless,
while Oedipus was arrogant, Creon is a better suit to be king of Thebes.
As the play progresses, Creon shows other king like attributes such as his ability to be calm, while

Managing Crude Oil Using Derivatives
MANAGING CRUDE OIL USING DERIVATIVES
The present price markers for crude oil are WTI, Brent and Dubai/Oman. The crude oil
derivatives contracts are traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). The
exchange acts as a regulatory body and as a financial trading forum for all the parties interested
in buying the options. Members of the exchange carry out the trades themselves, or they act on
behalf of the firms they represent through an open outcry auction held in the trading room or the
floor. The procedure begins when a buyer calls an authorized commodity broker with an order to
buy or sell futures or options contract. This order is sent to the firm s agent who is on the trading
floor. The prospects of more profits increases for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the price of oil is tripled in a year then the company is able to purchase oil at the last years
locked in price, which is lower than the current price, which in turn helps the company to save a
lot of money (Grabianowski, 2009). But, if the price of oil falls then the company ends up paying
more and loses money.
There are different types of financial instruments available for companies and investors to hedge
against crude oil price volatility. These instruments can be traded financially without the tangible
physical delivery of crude oil and different instruments have different time periods. Some of the
hedging tools are Options, Futures and Swaps. But for this paper we will only focus on option
contracts for management of risk in crude oil trading.
OPTIONS
The modern day financial options market came into existence in 1973. It was known as the
Chicago Board Options Exchange. During the same year, Fisher Black and Myron Scholes
invented a formula to calculate the price of an option using specific variables. This formula was
later called the Black Scholes Pricing Model and it had a huge impact on investors as they became
confident about the idea of trading options. As of today there are thousands of option instruments
(stocks, bonds and currency) listed in the market and millions of them are traded every day.
Options offer extra flexibility to buyers for managing currency or price risk as they work like an
insurance policy. Call option and Put option

Ponies Short Story Summaries
Introduction:
Hook: William M. Tweed, an American Democratic politician that reshaped politics in the 19th
century once stated, The way to have power is to take it.
Transition: Analyzing this quote, it can be evident that Tweed implies that power is hard to get,
and instead people must take it from others in order to be successful. Tweed s quote connects to a
popular literary theory dealing with an imbalance of power among individuals.
Additional Details: Marxism, a literary theory developed in the 18th century, portrays an
inequality of power as a cause for conflict. In the story Ponies , Barbara s pony Sunny is killed
because her power is taken from TheOtherGirls and their ponies. In the story Lamb To The
Slaughter , an ideal housewife Mary Maloney murders her husband Patrick Maloney in order to
gain power. In the story The One Who Walk Away From Omelas , a boy remains in agony to keep
the power of people.
Thesis: Therefore, an application of Marxism to Ponies , Lamb To The Slaughter , and The One
Who Walk Away From Omelas reveals that an imbalance of authoritative power between others will
lead to tragedy.
Body Paragraph #1:
Topic Sentence: In the short story Ponies by Kij Johnson, it is evident that when the protagonists
Sunny and Barbara face an imbalance of power against the antagonists, TheOtherGirls, tragedy
occurs.

Rudolf Diesel And The Invention Of The Diesel Engine
Rudolf Diesel is an infamous German innovator, mainly known for the invention of the Diesel
engine, which was named after him. However, Rudolf was not actually born in Germany but in
Paris, France on March 18th, 1858 and was the second of three children. His parents emigrated
from Bavaria to become leather goods manufacturers; their drive and creativity would ultimately
spark Rudolf s passion for inventing. The Diesel family was forced to move out of Paris due to
the Franco Prussian war in 1870. While the Diesel family settled in England, Rudolf s parents
figured it would be best to send Rudolf to Germany with his aunt and uncle so he could attend a
private school where his uncle taught mathematics. Rudolf demonstrated an inquisitive nature and
thirst for knowledge from an early age, however his parents did not encourage this. They would
much rather see Rudolf dive into the work force rather than pursuing an education. After finishing
his basic education at the top of the class, Rudolf applied and was accepted into the Industrial
School of Augsburg with a scholarship (Bellis, 2015).
After graduating in 1880 and with a few years of work experience under his belt, he began to
develop a steam engine using ammonia vapour. The results of this experiment were disastrous as
during testing the engine exploded and nearly killed him. In 1893, Rudolf published a paper with
designs of an engine based on the Carnot cycle; this created the foundation for the Diesel engine.

However, as time moved on from the first airing of the news channel, it was as if Fox had

how Fox News, and perhaps other popular media news outlets, have begun to actively misinform
their viewers for personal or business gain. Originally, Rupert Murdoch, a news corporationCEO,

Wonka Personal Response
This book is suitable for children and appealing to them because it embraces the concept of family
in an important, but sadly underrepresented way. The book does not focus on the typical father son,
mother son, or even sibling sibling relationship. Instead, it expands this framework to include an
even older generation, the grandparents.
In many ways, the figure of the grandparent in our current culture and when the book was written
take on an absent or separating characteristic. They are normally seen as being weaker and wiser
then the youth making them guides on the journey but rarely participates. This is present in the

One of the scenes and lines that embrace this is when Charlie gets a golden ticket his father

parent generation recognizing and encouraging the need for the younger generation and the older
generation to interact in this fantastical setting. This allows the world of Wonka to become even
more fantastical as it also becomes a necessary foreground for the grandparent to become an
active and present figure. It is both the chance to explore a new world and this new figure.
However, it does not only look at the grandparent as a figure but also as a possible relationship.
The grandparent is the only family figure and, therefore, a partner that accompanies Charlie on his

does not need a parent or sibling to have this familial relationship. One can and in some cases
should connect with this older though sometimes separate generation. This is a lesson which I feel
is personally important, but is also actually important for those who do not have parents or siblings

Local Government Fiscal Sustainability As A Common Pool...
Local Government Fiscal Sustainability as a Common Pool Resource Problem According to our
text, people perceive government as a tool to maximize their own self interest in the political
economy model (Rosen Gayer, 2014, p. 108). This commonly takes the form of public service
programs, which is why fiscal sustainability is an essential factor in governmentoperations,
especially on the local level. It has turned out to be an immense challenge on every level due to
fluctuating operating deficits, tax revenues, and demographics. These issues are similar to the
tragedy of the commons, which occurs when several people try to obtain the largest profit from
a common resource. As demand surpasses the supply of the resource, those who seek personal
gain disregard society s well being and other people are not able to experience the benefits (
Tragedy of the Commons ). The larger problem is that public expenditures are paid for by mostly
everyone within a single jurisdiction, yet the benefits from government expenditures are focused
on certain groups. This leads to each group craving a greater portion of the common revenue pool,
however, if every group tries to increase their share then it would result in unnecessary public
spending or economic crisis. This study by Tang, Callahan, and Pisano (2014) examines fiscal
sustainability within local governments as a common pool resource (CPR) problem by considering
the political economy of monetary institutions, applying six

Satanism And Witchcraft Similarities
Witchcraft and Satanism. Two things that are different, yet some people say they are basically
the same thing. Witchcraft and Satanism are two beliefs that do share some qualities, but they are
more far detailed in their own unique, scary ways. To start, the definition of Witchcraft is the
belief or use of magic and sorcery (Merriam, 1), and Satanism is the ideological belief and worship
of Satan, which is categorized by people who are against the Christian community (Merriam, 1).
Now moving onto to the history of witchcraftand Satanism. Both witchcraft and Satanism date back
all the way to biblical times. Satanism was started when Christianitywas spreading in Africa,
Europe, etc. Satanism was not formally directed to people who worshipped Satan, but to people
who thought of Christianity differently from the church. The church would assume that they were
in a pact with the devil (Lujik, 6). Witchcraft became known when it was written in the bible that

C.E. in what is now called Serbia, he was originally named Flavius Valerius Constantinus after his
father, a renowned army officer. [ Constantine I] His death was on May 22, 337 C.E. in Ancyrona,
Bithynia (in present day Turkey). [ Constantine I ] Interestingly, when Flavius Valerius Constantinus
(the father) was appointed deputy emperor in the West, he left Constantine s mother to marry the
stepdaughter of Maximian. From there, the young Constantine was raised under emperor Diocletian
in the East. [ Constantine Biography ]
After rising to power as the sole emperor of Rome in 324 C.E, Constantine moved the capital city
from Rome to the site of ancient Byzantium, naming it Constantinople after himself. [ Heritage ]
Constantinople s biggest strategic advantage was that it was surrounded on all three sides by water.
Its position on the Bosporus Strait was easy to defend not only itself but parts of the eastern and
Danubian frontiers. [ Heritage ] With this change in location and that of system of ruling,
Constantine I established a period of unity and peace for Rome. However, though he ruled until his
death, the empire would only remain unified until the eighth century. [ Heritage ] ... Show more

The only possibility may be the Valens Aqueduct, due to the fact that it is unknown when its
construction began. [ Valens ] The purpose of the aqueduct was to bring fresh water into the city of
Constantinople (modern day Istanbul), as the land did not provide any nearby sources of fresh
water. Though most of it has been destroyed, parts of the Valens Aqueduct remain standing to this
very day, the most famous of which is located on AtatГјrk Boulevard in Istanbul, Turkey.

Descriptive Essay About The Picasso
The Picasso It was my first day in the United States of America, travelling all the way from Nepal
to witness this amazing city. I was mesmerized by the skyline and obviously the food. I was
carving for my native Nepali food and to my amazement, there are many restaurants of nearly all the
cuisines. Chicagois a city with over 2.7 million residents (Wikipedia, City of Chicago), living in
the biting cold weather still happy and trying to cope up with the hustle and bustle of the big
city. It has nearly all the ethnic cultures within the neighborhood, if one wants to experience any
of these ethnic cultures they simply need to pay a visit to these neighborhoods. Now, talking
about the skyline the architecture is amazing, done with perfection and will leave you awe
struck. It masters in all the international styles and the maintenance of these buildings are the top
priority for the Chicagoans. I didn t find a single building in a bad condition and not only the
buildings look good they are very safe too. All the buildings have well maintained facilities in
case of an emergency. I took a short nap in the hotel and then left for a city tour, which was
offered by the Chicago trolley. There I saw a huge dark metal structure which was challenging you
to interpret it. I got down and started admiring the structure and was trying to understand the artist
s purpose. I noticed it was called The Picasso , it left me in a deep thought on what is the purpose
of the gift and the history

Essay about No Country for Old Men
I have always wanted to see this movie, but never had the time to get around to it. There was so
much hype going around about it. When I first heard about the movie coming to theaters, it did
not sound like a movie I would like. However, when the word got around to me, I knew I just had
to check it out. I must say that I am glad I sat down and watched it in its entirety. My first opinion
was totally wrong. After watching the movie, I now understand the buzz that followed it. It was
a classic story of a man who comes across a treasure and believes that it just must have been his
lucky day. However, the conflict arises because he is not the only one in search of the treasure.
This starts off a violent and bloody trail of a suspenseful cat... Show more content on

Llewelyn was not an ordinary guy who could be easily manipulated. He was no punk at all;
when push came to shove, he was ready to shove back. I have always liked suspense thrillers like
this movie. The ultimate suspense comes at the end where a massive shootout happens at the
motel where Llewelyn is at, and is killed. Also you know that Anton is still on the loose, and still
does not have the treasure he seeks which is now with the mob. The movie ends as a cliffhanger
when you see Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) telling his wife about the two dreams he
had the night before. Both dreams are about his father who has already passed. Unable to
remember what the first dream was about, he goes on to explain the second. In the second
dream, he describes his dad riding on pass him on horseback as if he did not know his own son. He
goes on to say that his dad is going to a place to make a fire to stay by in the cold and dark world.
My interpretation of the dream is that the cold and dark place represents death, but the light
from the fire represents life. The fire is a symbol for the sheriff s life and his father being beside
it means he is always with his son. After he finishes telling his wife, the movies just goes off. I
really enjoyed watching No Country for Old Men. It followed all the reviews I received from my
family and peers. Out of the entire movie, I only disliked how the movie ended

Main Outline And Argument
Summarization of Main Outline/Argument:
Ellen G White is very clear on her view regarding divorce. She s radically against divorce.
However there is some case when the innocent party can ask for divorce or decide to stay with the
guilty person. I found several arguments regarding divorce on her writing.
вћўMarriage is the contract of life; therefore, spouse has no right to ask for divorce.
вћўWe must view divorce according to God s law.
вћўAdultery is the only ground for divorce.
вћўThe innocent party can decide to stay or marry someone else.
вћўDivorce brings suffering between husband and wife.
вћўIn case of abuse, you can separate with the person but not legally divorce.
вћўThe wife has no right to divorce her unbeliever husband.
вћўScripture don t give enough room for divorce.
Research Conclusion:
My research question was: When it s appropriate for a spouse to ask for divorce? This question
comes in my mind because when I was a Pastor in the Southern Conference in Haiti there is one
of my colleagues get divorce with his wife without the ground of adultery. The wife is the one
who ask for divorce because she said she didn t see herself as a pastor s wife and want to live her
life without any restriction. The executive committee knew about this issue and they decided to
layoff the Pastor, even he has nothing to do regarding this divorce. Since that day, I was curious to
learn about Divorce in Ellen G, White writings. In my research, I found out that Ellen G white is
against the

Elements of Religious Traditions
All religions and beliefs are different. Some religions share the same characteristics, while some do
not. Religion varies from culture to culture. Certain religions worship a divine being, have a
sacred book, or commandments which they follow. Shinto, for example, does not have a set of
commandments, nor does it preach a moral code; Zen Buddhism does not worship a divine being;
and many tribal religions have no written sacred scripture (Molloy, 2010).
There are three main religions that believe in a divine being (God), have a sacred book, and follow
certain commandments. The first religion, Judaism, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sacred space is associated with the center of the entire universe, where power and holiness are
strongest and where we can go to renew our own strength. In native religions, sacred space may
encompass a great mountain, a volcano, a valley, a lake, a forest, a single large tree, or some
other striking natural site (Molloy, 2010). Sacred space can also be constructed into a symbolic
shape, like a circle, square, or a group of stones, like the Stonehenge in England. Sacred space can
also be a church, synagogue, or any place of worship depending on the religion and its beliefs.
Some native religions see everything in the universe as being alive, a concept known as animism.
The life force (Latin: anima ) is present in everything and is especially apparent in living things
trees, plants, birds, animals, and human beings and in the motion of water, the sun, the moon,
clouds, and wind. But life force can also be present in apparently static mountains, rocks, and soil.
Other native religions, while more theistic, see powerful spirits in nature, which temporarily inhabit
natural objects and manifest themselves there (Molloy,2010). Many religions use things, like water,
mountains, fire, trees, the sun, the moon, and other things in nature as a symbolism in their
religious beliefs; some even have statues that have symbolic meaning in their religions. For
example, water,

Estee Lauder Strengths And Weaknesses
SWOT ANALYSIS
CORPORATE STRATEGY International Expansion
Amanda Ruiz
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
EstГ©e Lauder has an extremely large presence as the global leader in prestige beauty with
products being sold in more than 150 countries. This global success is attributed to their focus on
cultural relevance, making sure that their products, signage, marketing etc. appeals to consumers in
each local market. EstГ©e Lauder also benefits from brand recognition and loyalty; however, this
seventy two year old company isn t only known for high end, classic products anymore. They have
a very successful track record of incorporating complimentary firms through merger and
acquisitions. Consumers from each age category are being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The company spent $179 million on R D in 2017 alone (Research Development, n.d.). With this
budget, they are able to identify shifts in customers preferences, improve upon existing products
and to deliver the new superior products they are known for.
Weaknesses EstГ©e Lauder s distribution network consists of salons, specialty stores and high
end department stores. This is potentially limiting its reach to customers. A limited distribution
strategy tends to increase dependency on specific channels which could be disastrous. For
instance, Macy s is EstГ©e Lauder s biggest client, accounting for nine percent of total sales and
nearly forty percent of sales in the United States (Terlep, 2016). Macy s is also aggressively
closing stores. Unfortunately, the company has not fully made use of the internet, increasing its
online presence and focusing more on e commerce would be advantageous. They were also very
late to the specialty channel stores, such as Sephora, costing them prime placement (Fernandez,
2017). EstГ©e Lauder should work to expand its reach if they want to stay relevant.

Strictly Ballroom
The 1992 film Strictly Ballroom directed by Baz Luhrmann is able to exhibit a substantial range of
film techniques to enhance and exemplify the progression of the plotline. The film s use of lighting,
camera techniques and sound provides the ability to enrich essential elements of the storyline.
Lighting within the filmis used as a mechanism to represent an ambition that lingers within Scott,
repressed by a higher authority. The films use of Camera Placement symbolizes a sense of
constraint, which ultimately leads to defiance. Sound is utilized within the film to embody Scott s
feelings of liberation, as he dances his own steps. Though each technique displays a variation in
meaning, there is a theme of self expression and its ability to provide... Show more content on

During the scene in which Barry Fife confronts Scott about his fathers past , there is an initial
close up of Scott as he finds out about his father, which shows shock and disbelief written upon
his face, and shows a sense of repression where the camera is entirely upon Scott. This mirrors
with the context of the film, as Barry is confronting Scott with a doctored truth that leaves him
confined between a choice of self happiness and the felicity of another. A crucial shot within this
scene is a one of Barry Fife at the forefront of the camera, whereas Scott is placed in the shadow
behind him. This embodies not only a sense of entombment that Scott must face with powers
beyond his control but also depicts Barry Fife s selfishness due to his manipulative ways that
casts others in the background, and leaves them trailing in his wake. As Scott and Fran dance their
own steps at the Pan Pacific championships, the camera techniques used within the scene are able
to show the liberation felt by Scott as he dances his own steps. The scene starts off in slow motion
as Scott slides in, and the focus is placed upon him which represents a moment of opportunity that
allows Scott to shine through the voice of his steps. As Scott and Fran dance, the background is
faded and the focus is entirely on them, symbolising that there has been no

  • 2. Poverty In A Thousand Splendid Suns An experience is a personal involvement or observation of an occurrence by a person. Every day, various people experience different events of their lives and learn from these many undertakings. People, however, cannot experience everything, but rather only experience what they undergo. Nevertheless, for others to distinguish different accomplishments that they cannot be a part of, many learn from the experiences of others. In the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by Khaled Hosseini, characters are exposed to life changing events that affect themselves and the ones around them. In the text, the characters help readers in becoming familiar with the experiences that they are not accustomed to, as it demonstrates the vast affection people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, the novel displays the effects poverty has on the characters well being. For example, in the book, Aziza s ribs [begin] to push through the skin [...] and her complexion [turns] the color of weak tea. [...] [Furthermore,] Zalmai [lies] around the house, eyes dulled and half closed, or in his father s lap limp as a rag (Hosseini 272). This exhibits the change in the characters health as poverty distresses them. As there is an insufficient amount of needs to support the family, the novel shows that the children begin to become weak and skinny and lose the vitality they had beforehand. After scarcity, readers view the harsh circumstances poverty brings upon the family with the absence of necessities. Readers are able to understand the experience of poverty as they grasp on how the children s well being has altered. In addition, the stress of living in scarcity collapses personal relationships. For instance, after the fire, Rasheed [is] home almost every day. He [is] fired from the kebab house [...] because he and a customer [get] in a scuffle [...] [After he is home], he [finds] fault with Laila, the way she [dresses], the way she [combs] her hair, her yellowing teeth (Hosseini 271). Ultimately, Rasheed presents the opportunity to receive money for the family, but fails to work in a mannerly way. Once Rasheed is home, he believes Laila is unkempt. This shows an unfair conviction because they cannot afford to maintain a pleasant appearance, and it is his fault they cannot pay for things because he is the only one that can obtain a job, as women cannot work. This shows an effect on personal connections as readers are able to observe an experience of a personal relationship weakening because of poverty and Rasheed s unfair thoughts due to lack of money. Overall, the book displays the experience of being affected by poverty through the change of the characters health and the breakdown of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following his case, the author goes on to discuss music therapy from general viewpoint. According to the American Music Therapy Association, Music therapy is the planned and creative use of music to attain and maintain health and well being (Mattews, 2015). This definition is open ended, which illustrates that music therapy is not only restricted for treating dementia, but also designed for variety range of population, including autism, anxiety disorder, and mental disorder patients. Furthermore, Matthews says that music has four aspects which contributed to music therapy: communal nature of its delivery, the rhythmic quality of composition, the entrancing effect of music s mood, and the physiological arousal accompanying listening (Matthews, 2015). Especially, people with dementia more likely to recall the rhythm, melody of music that they used to listen when younger. Thereupon, the power of music plays meaningful role to health care setting. • 4. Circus Persuasive Speech Summarize Written Text 1. A herd of elephants flies past you at sixty miles perhour, followed by a streak of tigers, a pride of lions, and a bunch of clowns. What do you see? It must be a circus train! One of the first uses of the circus train is credited to W.C. Coup. He partnered with P.T. Barnum in 1871 to expand the reach of their newly combined shows using locomotives. Before circus trains, these operators had to lug around all of their animals, performers, and equipment with a team of more than 600 horses. Since there were no highways, these voyages were rough and took a long time. Circuses would stop at many small towns between the large venues. Performing at many of these small towns was not very profitable. Because of these limitations, circuses could not grow as large as the imaginations of the operators. After they began using circus trains, Barnum and Coup only brought their show to large cities. These performances were much more profitable and the profits went toward creating an even bigger and better circus. Multiple rings were added and the show went on. Today, Ringling... Some believe that during the Edo period in Japan, the word shinobi no mono was appropriated and transformed to the very similar word ninja. I feel as if we have asked the question, Is photography an art? and Can photography be considered a type of language? many times in this quarter and we still cannot get a direct answer. Additionally, the truth of the matter is that we will never really know if it is because people have different opinions of what is art. For instance, in Literacy and Picturacy, Heffernan explains that there is something real behind every photograph. He explains that photographs allows to see the story that is being told instead of simply reading it. The first is the basic property. Here, Kracauer explains that the basic property of film is very similar to that of photography. However, the only difference is that films record the world as it is evolving in times whereas photography remains the same and frozen in time. Furthermore, he explains that it is this ability of the motion picture to capture movement that makes it good for recording events and protecting them. However, it cannot be considered as making use of the creative potential of the medium. As I was reading this part of the book, I realized that maybe this is what Barthes meant when saying that photography is only an imitation of reality. Taking of picture of something is not considered art because it does not take much for the photographer to take the photograph. However, I still believe that he is wrong. Globalization is the thought of corporations transferring employment overseas to those who will work for less. However, globalization can be expressed even wider, which incorporates numerous influences. With that being said, the most fitting meaning would be that globalization is the collapse of barriers among countries permitting labor, goods, and services to be freely exchanged. Consequently, one feature that appears to be debatable is the how globalization has moved the prosperity of others. For instance, subcontracting has led to a massive majority of employment for people in underdeveloped countries giving the ability to gradually creep out of poverty. But yet there are still additional countries that observe their poverty rate rise steeply. We will take a provocative look at globalization, where it improves a country such as Nigerias economy. We will talk about how things like Nigeria s use of Credit, reliance on foreign technologies, lack of raw materials, production of substandard goods, government policies and education comes into effect on their actual rapid growth in the economic aspect. The organization of the Nigerian economy is a characteristic of an underdeveloped country. Over half of the gross domestic product (GDP) is accounted for by the primary sector with agriculture remaining to play a significant part. The oil and gas sector, in particular, ... This argument gained such notoriety it commonly became known as The WomanQuestion, and it covered aspects of the legal and political rights of women, education, and economic opportunities. Some of these teachers are encountering students with autism for the first time and have felt some anxiety about this so they asked for some ideas and strategies to help them in the classroom. These are some of the suggestions that I have given them that I have used in the classroom successfully. 1. Use Task Analysis very specific, tasks in sequential order. 2. Teach specific social rules/skills, such as turn taking and social distance. 4. Give fewer choices. If a child is asked to pick a color, say red, only give him two to three choices to pick from. The more choices, the more confused an autistic child will become. 5. If you ask a question or give an instruction and are greeted with a blank stare, reword your sentence. The Role Of Minor Characters In The Chrysalids The Role of the Characters in The Chrysalids by John Wyndham In the novel The Chrysalids by John Wyndham, several minor characters are presented to help convey the themes of the text. Alan Irvin, Sophie Wender, and Axel Morton are several of the minor characters, who are presented in the novel, that assist in the communication of themes to the reader. These characters help develop themes such as intolerance, and the nature of a closed society. John Wyndham also employs various literary techniques including personalisation, and development of character depth, which are imposed upon the characters to better convey the themes of the novel. The theme of the nature of a closed society refers to the fact that people who live in such communities aren t able to question what they are taught as they are they are deprived of the knowledge which travelling and other people can teach them. When reading the novel it is clear that Axel identifies with the text s criticisms of intolerance. Axel disagrees with the intolerance toward things different from the normal, as he himself is not physically the same as others in Waknuk. Axel Morton however is not a deviant because his abnormality was obtained after birth in a sailing accident. He was standing in the customary way, with much of his weight upon the thick stick he used because his leg had been wrongly set at sea . This quote reveals Axel Morton s difference from the norm, and although it is not a huge variation, he still had to cope with that difference, and his inability to perform certain tasks that others could do. Although this difference from the norm was not deviational, he was still able to sympathise with true deviants, as he knew what it was like to be different to others around him. His difference form the norm was not the only reason for which he sympathised with deviants, but his knowledge also of other places and people, allowed him to have an open mind about certain viewpoints, which others did ... • 22. Abigail Adams Analysis The author of this document is Abigail Adams, a white female that is married to John Adams. She lives in a time where women have no form of representation, and they live in the shadow of men. Because of this, Abigail takes up a woman s traditional role and performs activities such as manufacture clothing for her family, soap making, creating gun/cannon powder for her husband, and other chores for the benefit of her household (Adams, Paragraph 12). Fulfilling this role has shaped her by securing her inferiority to her husband and other males. She as a womanlacks power both socially and politically when it comes to the opposite gender; however, it is just this that has cultivated her attitude towards her government, the malesex, and even her own spouse. By requesting that her husband remember to give rights to women, it shows that she was brave enough to present her opinions even though they were unwelcomed (Adams, Paragraph 9). She is headstrong in the sense that she is willing to rebel if she does not receive the proper representation that she is asking for. Also, by mentioning that the women would rebel, Abigail displays her intelligence because she could foresee the inevitable future if women s rights were not improved (Adams, Paragraph 9). She sees the world for what it is, unjust. Moreover, her social and political inferiority did not result in ignorance. • 28. The Characteristics Of Creon For King In Oedipus The King Creon for King All is not well in Thebes. A mystery is in the process of being solved as the people of Thebes suffer. In Sophocles Greek tragedy, Oedipus Rex, Thebes is being punished by the gods for a crime committed far in the past. The city of Thebes is cursed with a plague until the murderer of Laius is discovered and banished from the land. As Creon and Oedipus work to save Thebes, their different qualities show who is a better fit to be king. Oedipus saved Thebes once from the sphinx; however, Oedipus qualities of being arrogant, intense, and stubborn cause him to foil with Creon s character traits of being selfless, calm, and forgiving. According to Merriam Webster, a leader is someone who leads or guides. Because Creon s character traits portray a desirable leader, Creon is a better fit to be king of Thebes. Oedipus is quick to display his arrogance shortly after being informed of the troubles facing Thebes, which highlights Creon s selfless actions. As the play opens, a plague is upon Thebes. Broken but hopeful, people cling to the altars of the gods. Oedipus appears and evaluates the scene of people kneeling at the altars, pleading for deliverance from the hard times bearing Thebes. Oedipus then confidently announces, Here I am myself you all know me, the world knows my fame: I am Oedipus (7 9). By Oedipus making this bold remark, he is expressing his pride in himself. As King of Thebes, Oedipus is looked up to in times of hardship to guide the people, but in this part of the play, his arrogance is more notable than his heroic actions. Later, while addressing the citizens of Thebes, Oedipus shares, I acted at once. I sent Creon my wife s own brother to Delphi Apollo the Prophet s oracle to learn what I might do or say to save our city (81 84). In similar words, Oedipus sent Creon to go to the Oracle instead of going himself. Without Creon being selfless and journeying to Delphi to consult the Oracle Thebes would have no guidance from the gods on how to rid the plague from Thebes. Because Creon was selfless, while Oedipus was arrogant, Creon is a better suit to be king of Thebes. There are different types of financial instruments available for companies and investors to hedge against crude oil price volatility. His parents emigrated from Bavaria to become leather goods manufacturers; their drive and creativity would ultimately spark Rudolf s passion for inventing. The Diesel family was forced to move out of Paris due to the Franco Prussian war in 1870. While the Diesel family settled in England, Rudolf s parents figured it would be best to send Rudolf to Germany with his aunt and uncle so he could attend a private school where his uncle taught mathematics. Rudolf demonstrated an inquisitive nature and thirst for knowledge from an early age, however his parents did not encourage this. They would much rather see Rudolf dive into the work force rather than pursuing an education. After finishing his basic education at the top of the class, Rudolf applied and was accepted into the Industrial School of Augsburg with a scholarship (Bellis, 2015). Local Government Fiscal Sustainability as a Common Pool Resource Problem According to our text, people perceive government as a tool to maximize their own self interest in the political economy model (Rosen Gayer, 2014, p. 108). This commonly takes the form of public service programs, which is why fiscal sustainability is an essential factor in governmentoperations, especially on the local level. It has turned out to be an immense challenge on every level due to fluctuating operating deficits, tax revenues, and demographics. These issues are similar to the tragedy of the commons, which occurs when several people try to obtain the largest profit from a common resource. As demand surpasses the supply of the resource, those who seek personal gain disregard society s well being and other people are not able to experience the benefits ( Tragedy of the Commons ). The larger problem is that public expenditures are paid for by mostly everyone within a single jurisdiction, yet the benefits from government expenditures are focused on certain groups. This leads to each group craving a greater portion of the common revenue pool, however, if every group tries to increase their share then it would result in unnecessary public spending or economic crisis. Born on February 27 in c. 280 C.E. in what is now called Serbia, he was originally named Flavius Valerius Constantinus after his father, a renowned army officer. [ Constantine I] His death was on May 22, 337 C.E. in Ancyrona, Bithynia (in present day Turkey). [ Constantine I ] Interestingly, when Flavius Valerius Constantinus (the father) was appointed deputy emperor in the West, he left Constantine s mother to marry the stepdaughter of Maximian. From there, the young Constantine was raised under emperor Diocletian in the East. [ Constantine Biography ] After rising to power as the sole emperor of Rome in 324 C.E, Constantine moved the capital city from Rome to the site of ancient Byzantium, naming it Constantinople after himself. [ Heritage ] Constantinople s biggest strategic advantage was that it was surrounded on all three sides by water. Its position on the Bosporus Strait was easy to defend not only itself but parts of the eastern and Danubian frontiers. [ Heritage ] With this change in location and that of system of ruling, Constantine I established a period of unity and peace for Rome. • 42. Descriptive Essay About The Picasso The Picasso It was my first day in the United States of America, travelling all the way from Nepal to witness this amazing city. I was mesmerized by the skyline and obviously the food. I was carving for my native Nepali food and to my amazement, there are many restaurants of nearly all the cuisines. Chicagois a city with over 2.7 million residents (Wikipedia, City of Chicago), living in the biting cold weather still happy and trying to cope up with the hustle and bustle of the big city. It has nearly all the ethnic cultures within the neighborhood, if one wants to experience any of these ethnic cultures they simply need to pay a visit to these neighborhoods. Now, talking about the skyline the architecture is amazing, done with perfection and will leave you awe struck. It masters in all the international styles and the maintenance of these buildings are the top priority for the Chicagoans. I didn t find a single building in a bad condition and not only the buildings look good they are very safe too. All the buildings have well maintained facilities in case of an emergency. I took a short nap in the hotel and then left for a city tour, which was offered by the Chicago trolley. There I saw a huge dark metal structure which was challenging you to interpret it. I got down and started admiring the structure and was trying to understand the artist s purpose. I noticed it was called The Picasso , it left me in a deep thought on what is the purpose of the gift and the history ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Essay about No Country for Old Men I have always wanted to see this movie, but never had the time to get around to it. There was so much hype going around about it. When I first heard about the movie coming to theaters, it did not sound like a movie I would like. However, when the word got around to me, I knew I just had to check it out. I must say that I am glad I sat down and watched it in its entirety. My first opinion was totally wrong. After watching the movie, I now understand the buzz that followed it. It was a classic story of a man who comes across a treasure and believes that it just must have been his lucky day. However, the conflict arises because he is not the only one in search of the treasure. This starts off a violent and bloody trail of a suspenseful cat... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Llewelyn was not an ordinary guy who could be easily manipulated. He was no punk at all; when push came to shove, he was ready to shove back. I have always liked suspense thrillers like this movie. The ultimate suspense comes at the end where a massive shootout happens at the motel where Llewelyn is at, and is killed. Also you know that Anton is still on the loose, and still does not have the treasure he seeks which is now with the mob. The movie ends as a cliffhanger when you see Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) telling his wife about the two dreams he had the night before. Both dreams are about his father who has already passed. Unable to remember what the first dream was about, he goes on to explain the second. In the second dream, he describes his dad riding on pass him on horseback as if he did not know his own son. He goes on to say that his dad is going to a place to make a fire to stay by in the cold and dark world. My interpretation of the dream is that the cold and dark place represents death, but the light from the fire represents life. The fire is a symbol for the sheriff s life and his father being beside it means he is always with his son. After he finishes telling his wife, the movies just goes off. I really enjoyed watching No Country for Old Men. It followed all the reviews I received from my family and peers. Out of the entire movie, I only disliked how the movie ended ... This question comes in my mind because when I was a Pastor in the Southern Conference in Haiti there is one of my colleagues get divorce with his wife without the ground of adultery. The wife is the one who ask for divorce because she said she didn t see herself as a pastor s wife and want to live her life without any restriction. • 45. Elements of Religious Traditions Elements of Religious Traditions Chriselda Oani REL/134 November 14, 2011 Jorge Luna Elements of Religious Traditions All religions and beliefs are different. Some religions share the same characteristics, while some do not. Religion varies from culture to culture. Certain religions worship a divine being, have a sacred book, or commandments which they follow. Shinto, for example, does not have a set of commandments, nor does it preach a moral code; Zen Buddhism does not worship a divine being; and many tribal religions have no written sacred scripture (Molloy, 2010). There are three main religions that believe in a divine being (God), have a sacred book, and follow certain commandments. The first religion, Judaism, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sacred space is associated with the center of the entire universe, where power and holiness are strongest and where we can go to renew our own strength. In native religions, sacred space may encompass a great mountain, a volcano, a valley, a lake, a forest, a single large tree, or some other striking natural site (Molloy, 2010). Sacred space can also be constructed into a symbolic shape, like a circle, square, or a group of stones, like the Stonehenge in England. Sacred space can also be a church, synagogue, or any place of worship depending on the religion and its beliefs. Some native religions see everything in the universe as being alive, a concept known as animism. The life force (Latin: anima ) is present in everything and is especially apparent in living things trees, plants, birds, animals, and human beings and in the motion of water, the sun, the moon, clouds, and wind. But life force can also be present in apparently static mountains, rocks, and soil. Other native religions, while more theistic, see powerful spirits in nature, which temporarily inhabit natural objects and manifest themselves there (Molloy,2010). Many religions use things, like water, mountains, fire, trees, the sun, the moon, and other things in nature as a symbolism in their religious beliefs; some even have statues that have symbolic meaning in their religions. Estee Lauder Strengths And Weaknesses SWOT ANALYSIS CORPORATE STRATEGY International Expansion Amanda Ruiz SWOT Analysis Strengths EstГ©e Lauder has an extremely large presence as the global leader in prestige beauty with products being sold in more than 150 countries. This global success is attributed to their focus on cultural relevance, making sure that their products, signage, marketing etc. appeals to consumers in each local market. The company spent $179 million on R D in 2017 alone (Research Development, n.d.). With this budget, they are able to identify shifts in customers preferences, improve upon existing products and to deliver the new superior products they are known for. Weaknesses EstГ©e Lauder s distribution network consists of salons, specialty stores and high end department stores. This is potentially limiting its reach to customers. A limited distribution strategy tends to increase dependency on specific channels which could be disastrous. For instance, Macy s is EstГ©e Lauder s biggest client, accounting for nine percent of total sales and nearly forty percent of sales in the United States (Terlep, 2016). Macy s is also aggressively closing stores. Unfortunately, the company has not fully made use of the internet, increasing its online presence and focusing more on e commerce would be advantageous. They were also very late to the specialty channel stores, such as Sephora, costing them prime placement (Fernandez, 2017). EstГ©e Lauder should work to expand its reach if they want to stay relevant. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the scene in which Barry Fife confronts Scott about his fathers past , there is an initial close up of Scott as he finds out about his father, which shows shock and disbelief written upon his face, and shows a sense of repression where the camera is entirely upon Scott. This mirrors with the context of the film, as Barry is confronting Scott with a doctored truth that leaves him confined between a choice of self happiness and the felicity of another. A crucial shot within this scene is a one of Barry Fife at the forefront of the camera, whereas Scott is placed in the shadow behind him. This embodies not only a sense of entombment that Scott must face with powers beyond his control but also depicts Barry Fife s selfishness due to his manipulative ways that casts others in the background, and leaves them trailing in his wake. As Scott and Fran dance their own steps at the Pan Pacific championships, the camera techniques used within the scene are able to show the liberation felt by Scott as he dances his own steps. The scene starts off in slow motion as Scott slides in, and the focus is placed upon him which represents a moment of opportunity that allows Scott to shine through the voice of his steps. As Scott and Fran dance, the background is faded and the focus is entirely on them, symbolising that there has been no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
