The Importance Of Sleep Deprivation
The average amount of sleep obtained by high school students per night is classified as sleep
deprivation, which negatively cognitive functions including: mood/emotion regulation, verbal,
visual, and auditory processing, concentration/attention, and memory. The focus of this paper is
sleep deprivation. Concepts necessary to understanding sleep and sleep deprivation are sleep
control mechanisms, stages of sleep, and the different types of sleep deprivation. There are two
biological mechanisms in the body that regulate sleep. Both processes interact and balance one
another, and together are known as the two process model of sleep wake regulation. These two
sleep controlling mechanisms consist of: circadian rhythm, which is also referred to as process C,
and sleep wake homeostasis, called process S. Circadian rhythm is the regulation of the internal
processes and levels of alertness in the body controlled by the hypothalamus. The two parts to
circadian rhythm include the circadian drive for arousal, and the circadian alerting system. The
circadian drive for arousal is the tendency towards wakefulness, and arousal and alertness generated
by alerting pulses of the circadian alerting system. The circadian alerting system is an alerting pulse
sent out by the suprachiasmatic nucleus throughout the day, which counteracts increasing
homeostatic sleep pressure and creates the circadian drive for arousal. The circadian rhythm is
governed by one s biological clock , which is also

Over Speeding Persuasive Speech
Over Speeding
Over speeding is a common habit on the roads globally. Several people lose their lives annually
because they are driving beyond the speed limits or fall victims of an over speeding vehicle. This
means that all road users have an obligation to adhere to the road safety measures in order to
reduce the number of increasing fatalities on the road. Australian government through the transport
commission came up with various commercial ads aired on the television and digital media with a
purpose of communicating a specific intention; road safety. This paper will focus on a commercial
ad on over speeding.
The ad titled don t fool yourself, speed kills was launched in 1995. This followed a death tool of
418 on Victorian road. The ad was simply called mum in a Hurry and uploaded on you tube in
2009. It is a one minute commercial. The commercial is owned and managed by Australian
Transport Commission (TAC Victoria) for its anti speed adverts. A mother who is in a hurry
drives her vehicle at a high speed and in a reckless manner that she almost crushes other cars on
the road. The woman could not contain her speed when a pet crossed the road and a boy; Scottie
who was running after it is knocked down and dies. The idea of speed being a killer is justifiable
from the woman s over speeding and death of the boy.

When the car tries to make an instant turn, it produces a sound to indicate that the turn was
unexpected. The boy screams when he is knocked down. Screaming is utilized to draw the
attention of the driver and those within vicinity of the incident. Scottie also screams because of the
pay and the unexpected happenings. Scottie s mother calls out his son and starts to cry a sign of
pain and grief. The commercial does not use any music but people s voices, emotions and feelings

Assimilation Of The United States Constitution Essay
America has the United States Constitution as its map of operation. This Constitution s Preamble
states that ...in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, and insure domestic
tranquility...promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our
prosperity... If this statement is true, there would be no need to research whether assimilation or
separatism would be ideal for minorities to enjoy domestic tranquility and/ or liberty. As a
minority, we would not have to think about what we lose or gain if we choose assimilation or
separatism. In order for assimilation to occur a minority group becomes an integrated part of the
majority group; this assimilation results in non distinguishing of one group from another by
cultural characteristics. In order for this process to be complete, it must entail, not only an active
effort by the minority group to shed all distinguishing actions and beliefs, and also complete
unqualified acceptance of that individual by the dominant society. Implementation of this process
will gradually integrate the minority into the system, causing all groups to be culturally similar
with their differences no longer a basis for prejudice from the dominant group. (Dubois, Miley 172)
The rationale for assimilation from the structural sociologist s point of view is that assimilation is
the best way to reduce cultural differences between the dominant group and the majority group.
They also insist that there would

Why Is Shakespeare The Licorice Of Literature
Shakespeare: The Licorice of Literature Shakespeare s works are commonly taught in the
American public education system. For every student who claims they d rather walk on nails or
some equally gruesome alternative to reading Shakespeare, there is another person who claims
him to be a literary god. Its reception among students and the general population is highly
polarized, just a the treat, licorice, is. Whether you detest or adore it, you ve heard of it. Julius
Caesar, a unique play about a unique person, is one of Shakespeare s most revered and critiqued
works. The play has been carefully scrutinized by critics from all of the ages since the release. The
responses are broad; from an excellent drama to one of Shakespeare s weaker works, everyone has
an opinion on Julius Caesar.
Ben Jonson, a 17th century poet, wrote an emotional piece serenading Shakespeare in which he ...

However, the play Julius Caesar disappointed him. He claimed it to be cold and unaffecting,
compared with some other of Shakespeare s plays, (Cerasno). The play has been praised for its
remarkable historical accuracy; Shakespeare s probable access to Plutarch s history writings were to
thank. Oddly enough, Samuel Johnson blamed Shakespeare s strict adherence to historical truth for
the play s dramatical lackings. If Shakespeare would have had complete creative freedom without
the restrictions of historical accuracy, then the play would have been more of a success to Samuel
Johnson. Many others in the 17th century thought the complete opposite of this idea.
The play is dramatical excellence and historical truth according to an unnamed critic in the 17th
century. To this critic, the play manages to be both excellent in its entertainment value and in its
historical accuracy (Cerasno). There is little doubt that the play has historical truths, but whether or
not it is an excellent drama, is up to

How To Win Moneyball Analysis
Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis tells the story of the Oakland
A s, a baseball team that was economically at a disadvantage, and how they relied on statistics to
compete with wealthier teams. At the time, the process of selecting players was strongly based on
usual statistics such has batting average, RBIs, stolen bases, and number of hits. The Oakland A s
General Manager, Billy Beane, changed the game by focusing on Sabermetrics, an unconventional
sports analysis that valued the less obvious statistics of players, such as on base and slugging
percentage, that indirectly contribute to overall wins for the team. With this change in standards
for his players, Billy Beane was able to sign players at much lower costs because traditional
managers overlooked their values.
Billy Beane hired Paul DePodesta as his assistant to incorporate sabermetrics as the two were
inspired by the idea of baseball analysis. Even with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sabermetrics successfully undermined conventional ideas of player values when the A s lost
their three highest economically valued players. Jason Isringhausen, for example, was
considered so because as a closing pitcher he had a high number of saves in a game. After
studying number of saves as a statistic, Billy Beane and Paul DePodesta discovered that saves are
not often determined by the closing pitcher. As a result, Beane was able to take the high amount
of money he made from this trade and use it to invest in his own team, and he showed that he
could still win without high value players. Still, like any other statistic, there were outliers. Jason
Giambi was another huge snatch for teams. Even though his high value came from his physical
attributes and skills, he also had a high rate of creating runs and was a loss for the Oakland

Healthy Predator-Prey Relationships
Organisms within a predator prey relationship are intertwined in a co evolutionary battle for
survival. Each depends on food, shelter, the environment, and the random chance of evolution in
order to maintain balance in the relationship. If chance favors one side too heavily, it throws the
species into disequilibrium and can lead to the demise of one or more species. Because of the
potential severity of the consequences, it is important to investigate the contributing factors that
help maintain a healthy predator prey dynamic. In order to reach solid conclusions, a well rounded
research approach is required, lest one side of this is disproportionally represented. First, the
survival mechanisms of prey will be explored through the example of... Show more content on

Preys have a more difficult role in the predator and prey dynamics as they have to expend energy
in foraging for themselves as well as high predation risks. This also adds to the disequilibrium in
the predator and prey relationship as prey s need more expenditure of energy for both foraging
and escaping. In a research study done by Luttbeg et al. (1999) looked at behavioral response to
predation risk in a predator and prey dynamic model. When the spiders are not around the
grasshoppers eat more and grow more. (Luttbeg et al., 1999 However, when predation risk was
present this tended to cause reduced feeding activity in order to increase vigilance and predator
awareness thus imposing a great life history cause (Luttbeg et al., 1999).). Therefore, predator
prey dynamics is highly affected and requires equilibrium in the way the prey chooses to balance
its trade offs of foraging and predatory risk. In order to maintain the equilibrium of the predator
prey dynamic the prey must find way to maximize food intake and minimize predator

The Decision Making And Judgement Calls
Most decisions are made with analysis, but some are judgment calls not susceptible to analysis
due to time or information constraints. Please write about a judgment call you ve made recently
that couldn t be analyzed. It can be a big or small one, but should focus on a business issue. What
was the situation, the alternatives you considered and evaluated, and your decision making
process? Be sure to explain why you chose the alternative you did relative to others considered. It
feels as if we rarely have situations with sufficient data to make decisions clear and absolute.
Maybe those situations do occur frequently, but because they are obvious, we don t even register
them as decisions. Leadership hinges on effective decision making and judgement calls. That
includes gathering information for analysis when available, but also recognizing how not to be
caught in analysis paralysis. Effective leaders constantly evaluate the situation, recognize the
benefits, risks, and constraints and move forward. Nothing impedes an organization more than
inability to commit to a path forward. As Intel s facilities organization worked to transition the
entire structure of how we contracted and executed construction projects on Intel s Ronler Acres
campus, I made countless judgement calls. One in particular stands out. I needed to decide if we
would use cost based incentives as part of the contracting strategy and execution processes, and if
we decided to use them, how it would

The Birth Of The Periodic Table
In September 1860 the birth of the Periodic table began. A group of the world s best chemists
assembled in Germany to discuss the issues of atomic mass. At this meeting an Italian chemist,
Stanislao Cannizzaro, introduced the right way to accurately measure the relative mass of an
atom. After the new method was introduced chemists started to recognize similarities in the
properties of various elements and placed them into families. In this earlier stages of the periodic
table there were four main chemists; Dobereiner, Newlands, Lothar Meyer, and Dmitri Mendeleev
that played a substantial role in the development of the periodic table. Dobereiner started with a
few family groups each containing three elements. Newlands put the elements of those families in
repeating groups called octaves. Meyer noted additional repeating properties. Mendeleev put it all
together into what has become the periodic table of the elements. The German chemist, named
Dobereiner, in 1829 noted some of the first elemental similarities. His observations began with
bromine, which had just been discovered. He noticed that the properties of bromine were similar
to chlorine and iodine. Not only were they related but also various properties of bromine, including
the atomic weight, fell midway between the properties of chlorine and iodine, but also there was a
pattern within the group of regularly increasing atomic weights. As he did his research he noticed a
couple other groups of elements with patterns

Technology As A Way Of Life And Express
The new generation of students entering and already enrolled in university are members of a
digital age growing up surrounded by many forms of digital technology as they are the first
generation of youth to have internet technology easily available at their disposal. This current
generation have already been labelled by sociologist as digital natives (Prensky 2001a) and the
net generation (Tapscott 1998) (Prensky 2001a; Tapscott 1998 as cited in Murphy 2010).
Technology is not something new to these students as its presence in their life have made them
quite comfortable to the idea, as they perceive technology as a way of life and express a need to
feel connected at all times (Russo et al. 2014). Although what is new are the... Show more content

As university professors are being presented with new types of students, there is a call to integrate
advanced technology into their course design, and ultimately, educators must lead the way and use
the technology in a fashion that positively aids their students: technology should be used with the
needs of the learners in mind and with the goal of improving student learning as the focus (Russo et
al. 2014). If this idea is implemented and acknowledged correctly, then many advantages can arise
that enhance student learning in university classrooms. The first benefit of instructors introducing
advanced technology into their teaching is that technology connects with students, which
ultimately arouses their interest because technology as a whole is a relevant and important part of
student s lives. When students are interested and engaged in the class material they become
motivated to pay attention and focus on what they are being taught, which leads to an improved
retention rate of information. This relates to the DVD that West, Pudsey and Dunk West created for
teacher to give to their students to work within their learning, and they found that it easily
assimilates into their everyday life world (2010). Another advantage is that the use of technology
supports collaboration skills within students. Erin Murphy (2010) conducted an experiment
centering around educators use of Audience Response Systems, commonly

The Basic Parts That Make Up A Computer
Lawson City
Since you are looking to upgrade or purchase a new set of computers, I would like to discuss the
basic parts that make up a computer. It is important for everyone to have a basic understanding of
what makes a computer. As technology advances, it s important that you be able to make an
educated decision on whether to upgrade or to replace your current systems. The difference can
be a good deal of your hard earned money. Therefore, I will be detailing the Operating System,
Processor, Memory, RAM, and a few other things that will help you make good decisions when
purchasing new machines.
Let s start with the Operating System. Chris Woodford describes the operating system as the core
software in a computer that (essentially) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These computers date back to DOS, and Windows NT. Now we have multicore Processors, which
allow us to run two or more tasks at the same time. Of course now days, you can surf the internet,
write a word document, while listening to your favorite playlist on iTunes. We have come a really
long way.
The next thing we will discuss is Memory. Your hard drive allows you to store all the
applications, programs, pictures, and any other data that you might like to save on your
machine. Hard drives now come in many different sizes depending on your needs. They range
from 100 GB to 3.9 Terabytes. The average home computer has 500 GB of memory. We also have
Solid State Drives which are said to be more reliable because there is no spinning mechanism to
worry about possibly failing.
Now we must discuss the RAM (Random Access Memory). Even though this is wiped clean
every time you shut down your computer, your random access memory stores the location of
that data. Because of this, the CPU doesn t need to go back out to the address bus and find the
data s location on your hard drive. It s like going to the library. If you need to know the definition
of a word, you don t need to get up repeatedly, walk over to the shelf with the dictionary and open
it to the corresponding page. Instead you can just take the dictionary off of the shelf and keep it at
the table until you are done. Your RAM does the exact same thing, thus speeding up the process.

Stephen Tierney On The Brexit Referendum
In order to properly understand the analysis of Stephen Tierney on the brexit Referendum and how
democratic it was, one must first fully understand the concept of democracy. In other words, what
is democracy? Is democracy a fallacy?
Democracy may be a word familiar to most, but it is a concept still misunderstood and misused in
a time when totalitarian regimes and military dictatorships alike have attempted to claim popular
support by pinning democratic labels upon themselves. Yet the power of the democratic idea has
also evoked some of history s most profound and moving expressions of human will and intellect:
from Pericles in ancient Athens to Vaclav Havel in the modern Czech Republic, from Thomas

credentials of the referendum undermined by the restriction of the franchise? Based on the

and Irish and Commonwealth citizens satisfying residence requirements. There were obviously
certain counters and political objections to this. It can also be notable that the Court of Appeal

convincing concern rests upon a vision of the UK as a multinational union in which the consent of
each of the constituent territories should be required for such a significant change this however is

The Negative Effects Of The Housing Market
I think high housing prices is a new reality but I don t think we just have to live with it. Steps can
be taken by all levels of government and the private sector that this new reality is creating, says
James McKellar. Now that Canadians are speaking out about their concerns for the market and their
stability, and professionals in the industry are beginning to become concerned, it is now the
governments turn to speak and try to fix the problem or help ease the minds of canadians.
According to the Aurora Banner, higher levels of governments are making moves to address the
issue, including the federal government s announcements to move and to tighten mortgagerules and
closing a tax loophole for foreign investors. This means that essentially the government will be
making it harder for people to qualify for a mortgage and for foreign investors when trying to
purchase real estate. According to the Toronto Star, As of Friday ,October 28, 2016, Minister Bill
Morneau says that the government continues to be vigilant in the monitoring the market , so we
have no further actions under consideration in terms of housing . Their most recent change was to
end tax breaks for non residents and make it harder to qualify for mortgages. This means, if you
cannot qualify for a mortgage, you cannot purchase real estate in Canada.

This, in turn, gives his argument much more weight and validity. The ability to capture such an
audience requires a great deal of scholarly language, which he accomplishes by utilizing his wide
vocabulary. His work is loaded with words like scrupulous, refractory, sanguinary, ( The Real
Mahatma Gandhi ), fatuous, and invocations ( Free Speech ). The use of such words gives his
arguments a sense of sophistication, which serves to make his arguments sound legitimate.
Furthermore, through scathing remarks about his subject, his humorously brutal tone serves to

Altogether, he demonstrates that valid criticism of anyone can be entertaining, yet scholarly.
One distinct style that set Hitchens apart from most thought provoking scholars is his use of
obscene and politically incorrect language. This works to shock the reader and to engage them even

many unusual techniques to help create the sound that we know and love. Which landed the album

The first song I will talk about is Speak to Me in the opening of the song there is a heartbeat this
was done with a heavy gated bass drum. Alan used Kepex noise gates, which were new
technology at the time. The band also thought it was a nice idea to have some speech throughout
the record. So they recorded people answering questions off a stack note cards. Then Alan placed
the voices in later where the band felt it appropriate. (Classic Albums: The Making of The Dark
Side of the Moon)
The next song I will talk about Time . When recording this song many unique techniques were
used for the time. Alan suggested to the band the idea of using real clocks. He made stereo
recordings in an antique clock shop. Using a portable tape machine he record each clock one at a
time. Then he put them together on the multitrack tape by back timeing the quarter inch originals
that he had and starting that next one on time until they were all layer together. (Classic Albums:

I think the clocks are a very important component to the song. It was surprising to me to find out
that it was Alan s suggestion. This just goes to show that the band trusted his creativity and
engineering skills.

The Importance Of Feudalism In Europe
Real Draft Feudalism in Europe during the middle ages came out of the necessity for both order
and protection from the attacks and raids of the Vikings or Germanic warriors who traveled and
pillaged Europe around the 5th to the 11th century. The Roman Empire s destruction in the 5th
century A.D., along with rulers failing to maintain their authority and rule allowed nobles and
those in power to take more power of the areas that were under them. The people s protections
that were more common under a centralized government, as in the times of the Roman Empire
vanished. As such, the peasants and the lower class found it necessary to negotiate with local
rulers for security from enemy forces. This system included lords and serfs. Now, the nobles
were stark contrasts to the peasants. Nobles exercised greater power economically, politically,
and in other areas. Serfs could include servants, and peasant farmers. A lord could give land to
these people in exchange for protection. This process of giving land as payment or reward was
also known as a fief. In order to recognize the importance of how the feudal system came to be, as
well as analyzing its strengths and weaknesses, we must go back in time to briefly see how the
Roman Empire governed. In the Roman Empire, there were opportunities for aspiring men to
achieve a better life. A main example is seen through their governing system. During this time,
Curus Honorum was in effect. This was designed for Roman senators.

which I find to be most agreeable. St. Thomas Aquinas is a widely renowned Christian
theologian and philosopher, as well as an important doctor of the Church. Because of his deeply
rooted Catholic faith, Aquinas reasoning is based heavily on Church doctrine and scripture.
However, he is also known for his study of Aristotle, whose more practical views he intertwines
with Christian teaching. For Aquinas, the idea of suicide is an obvious violation of Christian
doctrine as well as the worst possible offence against God. Aquinas argument against the idea of
lawful suicide is rooted in the rules within his definition of natural law. To Aquinas natural law is
based on practical reason of beings. This practical reason is conveys the notion that all beings

The Dietary Guidelines For Nutrition And Human Needs
According to the History of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans , In 1977 after years of scientific
review and controversy the US Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs, led by
Senator George McGovern, recommended Dietary Goals for the American people (US Senate
Select Committee, 1977). The Goals included complementary nutrient based and food based
recommendations. The first goal aim attention at energy balance and urged that, to prevent
overweight, Americans should endure only as much energy as they are necessary. Overweight
Americans should consume less energy and expend more energy. For the nutrient based Goals, the
Senate Committee recommended Americans, boost their consumption of complex carbohydrates
and naturally occurring sugars; and make less consumption of refined and processed sugars, total
fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium (1).) The beginning of the Dietary Goals encounter
debates and controversy, as industry groups and the scientific community expressed questioning
that the science available at the time supported the specificity of the numbers provided in the
Dietary Goals. To support the credibility of the science used by the Committee, the US Department
of Agriculture and US Department of Health and Human Services (then called the Department of
Health, Education, and Welfare) scientists from the two Departments acquire additional expertise

Anita Desai, A Modern Indo English Writer Essay
INTRODUCTION
Anita Desai, a noteworthy woman novelist, is a modern Indo English writer, widely acclaimed
not only in India but also in the world of fiction writing. She emerged after independence,
deliberating on the highly debatable contemporary issues. Anita Desai is a keen observer of the
society and the position of the women in the contemporary society draws her special attention. The
novels of Anita Desai are noted for the profound probing into the inner life and feelings of the
women, bounded by the shackles of the middle class. They are the explorations of the family
problems, which perhaps is the chief cause behind the estrangement of the women from their
family. Literature for her is not a means of escaping reality but an exploration and an inquiry. She
prefers the private to the public world and avoids the traditional grooves of external reality and
physical world. In fact, her real concern is the thorough investigation of human psyche, inner
climate, and she unravels the mystery of the inner life of her characters. Her main engagement is to
study human existence and human predicament, her exploration being a quest for self. Anita s
main focus, in this way, is to depict the psychic states of her protagonists at some crucial juncture of
their lives.
The uniqueness of Anita Desai s fiction, however, lies in her exploration of feminine sensibility. In
Desai s novels, the love encounters explode into marital disputes as the result of devastating post

Psychodynamics Of The Family Essay
The Psychodynamics of the Family , taken from The Reproduction of Mothering: Psychoanalysis
and the Sociology of Gender, published in 1978, remains one of Nancy Chodorow most influential
works.
Chodorow establishes in The Psychodynamics of the Family her interpretation and analysis of the
heterosexual dynamic within the social and familial context, and the effects of mothering, manhood
and womanhood on the perpetuation of the family.
The article is structured in three parts: Oedipal Asymmetries and Heterosexual Knots ; The Cycle
Completed: Mothers and Children ; and Gender Personality and Reproduction of Mothering .
Chodorow s main arguments are based on Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytical Oedipus Complex
theory, which she uses to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A child recreates the mother child exclusivity and allows women to return to their primary object
love unit however, it interrupts it for men, who find themselves sidelined in the relationship.
Finally, the author examines how gender personality shapes a woman s mothering capacities, and
thus reproduces the cycle of mothering. The different structures of the oedipal triangle (binary for
men, triangular for women) contribute to the formation of gender identity in children. The
psychoanalytic object choice also ensures that the heterosexual relationship will result in women
mothering and taking on the role of primary caretaker, leading to an asymmetrical organization of
parenthood where men are mainly absent or removed. However, male dominant households ensure
that women will remain unfulfilled in the relationship, leading to a desire for a child, and rearing
this child in a socially gendered family. In this manner, due to women s nurturing role and their
narcissistic attachment to their daughters, they contribute to the perpetuation of their own social
roles and position in the hierarchy of gender .
The Psychodynamics of the Family has greatly resonated in feminist literary theory and
psychoanalytical theory. Chodorow s first edition of The Reproduction of Mothering has been the
object of criticism due to shortcomings and its limited view of the family and

The Death Of The Indian Independence Movement
The Right to Life
Leader of the Indian independence movement, Mahatma Gandhi, once said, It seems to me as clear
as daylight that abortion would be a crime (Gandhi, Mahatma). Yet federal law in the United States
has given women the right to kill their unborn children through the Roe v. Wade ruling of 1973. In
the years since, over 58,000,000 American children have lost their lives without even having the
chance to protect themselves. In 2015 alone, 1,058,400 children were killed by abortion in the
United States, and 43,800,000 worldwide. The war against children of abortion is the bloodiest in
world history (Abortions in America).
The Declaration of Independence declares life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness inalienable
human rights. If the Supreme Court takes this right from the unborn, why not others? Abortion
should be illegal in America for the following reasons: first, the obvious point at which to
understand human life s origin is conception, not birth; second, in depriving human beings of life,
the Roe v. Waderuling is itself unconstitutional; finally, abortion has medical, psychological and
spiritual effects on others beyond the child being deprived of life.
Abortion should be illegal because life begins at conception; scientific and medical discoveries
over the past three decades have verified and solidified this age old truth. Dr. Jerome LeJeune,

Romans Bread And Games
For my Classics Day project, I worked with Bram to create a Latin themed trivia game inspired
by the modern day board game called Candyland. However, the Roman people did not have
sugar and therefore did not manufacture or consume the marshmallows, chocolate, and candy
canes depicted in the Candyland game. What the Romans did have, and love, was bread, so we
felt it would be appropriate replace candy with bread for the purpose of our game. This change is
even more fitting because of the well known phrase panem et circenses, meaning bread and
games, coined by Juvenal circa 100 A.D. in his poem Satire X. The phrase is intended to
illustrate Juvenal s contempt for the Roman public, who is so easily swayed to vote by cheap
food and entertainment. In Roman society, providing bread and games became one of the most
effective ways to rise to power. In 140 B.C., this policy had been officially put into place with the
passage of the grain dole, or Cura Annonae ( care for the grain supply ). Though a source of
political contention for many years to follow, distributing the grain supply became an important
duty for the Roman Aedile.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theories, Models, and Nursing Research The nursing research aims to provide more evidence based

have invented many theories and models of nursing practice, and these are well used by other
researchers to formulate their hypothesis and present their findings.
Significance of Theories, Models and Framework Theories and models are abstract, broadly

In addition to fiscal benefits to international students, there are benefits to the university and

Improved relationships between institutions and international students should be a major focal

The low response rate of this study and many others shows the necessity to determine what may be
preventing students and potential participants from answering surveys. Is this an issue of a lack of
English skills or are there other mechanisms at play that need to be considered? For instance,
differences in culture could preclude some people from participating and some may be reluctant to
participate due to unethical survey research they may have dealt with in the past. Learning
communities in US higher education are very diverse and each group, including international

Essay On Nationalism And Nationalism
Nationalism could be a type of religion in some cases. Nationalism could be a kind of religion
promoted by the state in order to help supplement obedience and conformity to the wishes of the
state. Like all religions, nationalism tries to answer the problems of life, for instance, who the
person is, from where do they come from, what is the person s legacy and etc. All these questions
could sometimes be answered through nationalism and that s why some people could be extremely
nationalistic. Just like every false idea of reality, it could be dangerous. Although religionis not the
thing that truly successfully binds people in a geographic space as well as nationalism does,
nationalism could still act as a sort of religion.
More recently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some way religious nationalists often occur to their religion traditionally and follow specific
ways that their ancestors believed in because religious people would only refer to their religion s
text but religious nationalists would refer to ancestors. Religion and nationalism could
sometimes be separated by the idea of politicizing religion or having the influence on religion to
politics. For example in Saudi Arabia they have the effect of religion on their political ideologies
and they make laws according to the Islam. The most reason why religion can be similarized
with nationality is because it gives a sense of national unity and it s a belief shared by a group of
people and that kind of shows how its similar to nationalism. The idea of religion supports the
persons national identity, shares similar ethnicity with a group of people, language and culture also
that s how nationalism and religion are similar.
Whatever the case may be, the modern religion and nationalism, nationalism would win over
religion because everyone sort of follows tradition more than religion these days and tradition
could lead to a specific belief and build up a national group. So modern people would put
nationalism before their religion. An example for this is the Islamic extremist group ISIS on how
they turned religion into nationalism but follow nationalistic belief and act as one more than they
would follow the actual Islamic

Understanding Hypnosis
I feel it useful to provide a definition of hypnotherapy as well as hypnosis before moving on and
answering this question of this essay. Linnenkamp Doyle writes, hypnotherapy is the use of
hypnosis to treat disease something that she documents in her case study. This medical idea of
hypnosis needs further exploration in terms of how it has evolved and sparked debate amongst
medical and dental practitioners. Four very significant hypnotherapists are arguably Mesmer, Braid,
Esdaile and Elliotson, all putting emphasis on the medical aspect of hypnotherapy. Mesmer, for
example, devoted his 1779 27 Propositions concerning animal magnetism.
Closer to modern day, in his book Hypnotherapy, Dave Elman not only concentrates on relaxation (a

So, I will now move onto describing the psychological and physiological effects of hypnosis. Robin
Waterfield provides a valid list of this when he describes a high degree of rapport between the
hypnotist and subject , use of the imagination and also the generation of expectations within the
subject s mind. As we can see in Linnenkamp Doyle s case study of hypnotherapy as a cure for
blindness below, these expectations ideally relate to the suggestions imposed upon the subject of
hypnosis. The suggestions and expectations will often relate to factors such as the cure or severity
of a disease suffered by the subject or the lack of pain during dental procedures undergone by the
subject.
It is clear from the effects listed by Waterfield, that the psychological and physiological effects of
hypnotherapy are highly linked to the state of receptivity and power of suggestion in the subject
and hypnotist.
Relaxation is both an effect of hypnotherapy and part of its principals. In terms of the latter,
relaxation on the part of the subject of hypnotherapy facilitates the receptivity that we have seen to
be desirable for the optimal success of hypnotic techniques. Relaxation also constitutes a boundary
between hypnosis and meditation. As Waterfield explains, some studies have shown that both
meditation and hypnosis have similar effects on the autonomic systems: a reduced

Difference Between African American English Diverging From...
African American English is diverging from Standard American English. As shown in Do You
Speak American (2005), AAE originates from the time of the trans Atlantic slave trade. English was
introduced to trade ports in Africa by colonialists, resulting in the creation of pidgin a mixture of
English and African languages that is still in use today. More recently, African Americans who have
moved from the South to the North have been more segregated, creating greater divergence
between AAE and SAE. As many African Americans maintain ties to the South, such as continued
contact with friends or family in the south, similarities between AAE and southern dialects remain.
However, each group have selected features that are important, such as maintaining r in the North or
keeping certain features as a way of preserving history, resulting in different dialectpatterns between
the North and the South to develop.
It is arguable that African American Englishis a dialect of contemporary American English. While
AAE is different and is easily distinguishable from Standard American English, the two dialects
still share similarities and are forms of vernacular English. As AAE stems from and shares many
linguistic patterns with Creole and other African languages, it is possible to argue that AAE is in
fact not related to contemporary American English at all. However, I feel that the different
influences on language are simple markers of regional variation and not enough to fully

Strategic Plan For EHR
When implementing a new EHR, departments need to have a plan in place when the system
causes change to the process and design within the organization. Often times, regulations and
policies need to be changed to coincide with a new system in place, such as a new EHR program
(University of Scranton, 2017). A way to mitigate this situation is to start at the federal level s
regulations and work down the scope from there. This will guarantee that mandatory rules are still
being followed and there is successful transition into future policies. Additionally, funding will be
crucial to the organization s ability to have a new EHR system. Each department needs to ensure

By using the procurement process, the administrator can ensure they are making the right decisions
on goods and services at the right price (Purchase Control, 2017). When an administrator is
required to follow specific policies and guidelines, the steps in the process need to entertain the best
EHR system vendor without causing any delays with implementation of the new program. There
are 7 steps to the procurement process, beginning with identifying the need to purchase the goods

vendors and their supplies. The format allows the administrator to compare multiple suppliers

United States Age Gap Provisions and Mistake of Age Defense In some cases where the
individual/victim is not the legal age of consent and/or the defendant is over the age of 18 than
there may be an age gap provision of the law in the state that makes the offense less of a crime
because of the age gap, but it can still be prosecuted. The states that have the age gap provisions
are: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia,
Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana,
New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania,

any state allows the defendant to be more than 4 years older than the other party ( Age of
Consent Chart , 2017). In the United States, there are provisions called Romeo and Juliet Laws,
which were made known by Texas. The purpose of the Romeo and Juliet Laws is to prevent an

The Success of the Bolsheviks in Gaining Power in Russia...
The Success of the Bolsheviks in Gaining Power in Russia by 1922
In February 1917, the Bolshevik party was small and irrelevant. The leadership was abroad and
there was little consistency of purpose among the party in Russia. However, by the summer of
1922, the Bolsheviks had become the dominant force, and a new communist state had emerged
from their success. The purpose of this essay is to explain this transformation.
The abdication of Tsar Nicholas II and the collapse of the Romanov dynasty threw Russiainto a
state of turmoil. The elites had withdrawn their support for the Tsar after a series of disastrous
defeats in the war and continued social and economic problems. In the wake of the ... Show more

Despite the financial considerations, the Provisional Government felt obliged to continue the war
out of a sense of loyalty to Britain and France. In addition, they were reluctant to leave the war
without salvaging some prestige and pride from the current situation. They were still hopeful of an
allied victory. However, the decision to continue with the war was to prove extremely unfortunate.
It was unpopular, as there appeared to be few aims to the continued fighting. The government
quickly lost the support of a large proportion of the troops. These disillusioned peasants in uniform
provided excellent targets for Bolshevik propaganda. What is more, the Russian situation in the war
worsened and humiliating defeat began to loom large on the horizon.
Russia was a poverty stricken, backward power in 1917. It also had a majority peasant population.
The continuation of the war meant that the key issues of peace, bread and land that Lenin so aptly
highlighted could not be addressed. Reforms and visible improvement in the peasant way of life
were vital if the government wished to gain their support and maintain its power.
However, revolutionary forces, suppressed under Tsarist Russia came to the surface under the new,
weaker and less repressive Provisional Government to create a body known as the Soviet. This
body created a

The leaders in education need to be informed to ICT possible benefits with the leader s dangers
and be active in lecturing them, from now ICT literacy development provides an appropriate venue
for this. The development of an ICT addition model in schools is valuable for stakeholders in
education to evaluate technology training for school leaders and create opportunities for principals
to acquire ICT integration skills. (Selwood, 2003) said that when school leaders allow technology
integration through vision and knowledge, schools can improve in instructional technology, which
can lead to greater student achievement and better preparation for a technological society. (Bonifaz
Zucker, 2004) said that teaching students with laptops establishes a different environment than
traditional classrooms and requires the teacher to have ICT knowledge and skills, effective ICT
teaching strategies, effective classroom management as well as technical support. In a school

The Bedside Shift Of Patient Participation
Abstract
Recognizing that patient participation is vital to their personal medical care, healthcare
organizations are conducting nursing staff shift reports at the bedside in the patient s presence.
Bedside reports aim to avoid communication failures by exchanging real time information at shift
change. Bedside reporting is a new alternative to the customary change of shift report that
traditionally takes place in a unit hallway or at the nurse s station. This provides an opportunity for
questions before valuable information is lost or overlooked. In this literature review of bedside
shift reporting, three studies were compared in order to show that a patient s perspective is valued
as they can see and hear from the team of professionals who are providing their care. Bedside shift
report also improves the nurses understanding of the patient s condition as the nurse is able to
visualize the patient and share relevant information.
Bedside Shift Report Literature Review
The bedside shift report occurs between the outgoing and oncoming nurse next to the patient s
bedside at shift change. It is intended to engage patients in the conversation and exchange of
information. This gives both nurses and the patient the opportunity to ask questions and verify
important information about the patient s history and care plan.
In a research article by Lamond (2000), the assistive role of the nursing shift report in information
processing and plan of care discussion was examined. This study

Characteristics Of Merchant Of Venice A Comedy
William Shakespeare, widely regarded as the world s greatest playwright, has revolutionized the
world of English literature with his plays. Some of these plays are clear cut comedies and
tragedies, while others are more ambiguous. The Merchant of Venice is a play that falls under the
latter type, and it has been hotly contested whether this literary work should be classified a comedy
or a tragedy. However, since the majority of the characters received a happy ending, the abundance
of comic relief scenes and characters, and lightheartedness of the plot relative to other
Shakespearean works leads me to conclude that The Merchant of Veniceis indeed a comedy.
One of the characteristics of a comedy is that it usually contains a happy resolution of conflict,
and this was definitely reflected in the conclusion of The Merchant of Venice. Happy endings
usually pertain to the protagonists or the main characters surviving or outlasting misfortune.
Antonio being spared and cleared of any debt he owed Shylock by the Venetian courts (Act IV,
scene i) is a prime example of the protagonist receiving satisfactory closure. In the drama building
up to the court scene, Antonio s best friend, Bassanio, had cut a deal with the devil as he borrowed
money from the shrewd Shylock, with the stipulation that repayment would either be in ducats or a
pound of Antonio s flesh (Act I, scene iii). When Antonio s business enterprise came crashing down
abruptly, he had no means by which to

Character Analysis of Bartleby, the Scrivener
In Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener , a story of the strangest law copyist the narrator, a
lawyer, has ever employed is told. The narrator experiences conflict with Bartleby when he prefers
not to examine some law papers. Once Bartleby prefers not to once, he continues to repeat the
statement on all request asked of him. This statement sends Bartleby into a state of tranquility,
staying isolated in the cubical and refusing all assistance by any means. This state results in him
going to jail, and eventually dying. This passive resistance Bartleby exhibits traps him physically
and psychologically by surrounding him with walls the narrator symbolically describes numerous
times. The idea of transcendentalismarises from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the idea from transcendentalism that there is no form of superior intelligence is the
reason as to why Bartleby prefers not to (6) in all forms of requests. This is the moment in the
story where Bartleby assumes the position of a transcendentalist. This point is where he breaks
free of societal duties and refuses all help from the narrator, denying money and shelter from
him. Although critiques such as Walter E. Anderson argue that Bartleby s isolation shows
Christian moral reading is the correct context to assume, I disagree. There are allusions to
biblical texts such as the narrator referring to himself and Bartleby as sons of Adam (11). But I
think Bartleby is isolated to show how he is alone from everyone, living in a cubical, and being
surrounded by walls. Although Christianity gives feelings of isolation with God, Bartleby is
isolated with his spiritual self, saying he would prefer to make no change at all (21). Bartleby
determines his fate by questioning himself and his societal roles. He does not look to Christ in any
form, not believing in a higher intellectual form. Instead he finds serenity in his civil disobedience.
Another form of symbolism important to Bartleby s isolation is the imagery of walls . The story
s setting is on Wall Street and at the office the men work at look upon a white wall (1) and have an
unobstructed view of a lofty brick wall (2). The walls represent society s blocks on Bartleby and his
progress in society.

Essays for The American Pageant, 14th ed. Part One 1. From the perspective of Native Americans,
the Spanish and English empires in America had more similarities than differences. Assess the
validity of this generalization. Response Strategy It is important to develop a clear thesis on the
validity of the statement at the outset of the essay. A good essay could be developed on either side
of the issue or in support of a middle of the road position. Supporting paragraphs should be
developed to build the position chosen. Both the Spanish and the English treated the Native
Americans as inferiors, thought it important to bring them Christianity, sought to profit

Mercantilist ideas emphasized that nations should strive toward economic self sufficiency and
that the power of a nation should be measured by the amount of its gold and silver reserves.
Ultimately, a nation should arrange to produce everything it needed for its own citizens and sell
surpluses to for hard currency. This metal reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations
to pay for wars or solve shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an
important part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by
producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for
ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products,
such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become
more fully developed, while the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw
materials. To insure that the American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British
wealth, various Navigation Acts were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the
colonies, England, and the rest of the world. In many cases, ships carrying American products to
other European countries had to stop in England first to pay duties before continuing onward. Also,
goods traveling to and from America had to be

Amphotericin B Research Paper
Sterols are categorized as organic molecules, specifically a lipid. A common trait a lipid has is it is
insoluble to water. The chemical structure includes four carbon fused molecules with an additional
oxygen molecule attached. The most known animal sterol is cholesterol. Cholesterol is
fundamental to the structure of the cell membrane. It also functions as a fat soluble in the body.
In order for amphotericin B to work, there must be sterols present. This is because it is susceptible
to sterols. A bacterial membrane does not contain sterols, which means it can t be used as an agent
against bacterial infection. The antibiotic amphotericin B is an antifungal drug because Fungi have
sterol in its membrane.
Amphotericin B should only be used

The Hero In Odysseus In Homer s The Odyssey
To most people, a hero is a person who is admired for their courage, noble qualities, outstanding
acheivements and sacrificing their life for others. Heroes in Greek mythology were often seen as a
people who were clever, talented, courageuos, noble, had great strenght, had great victories in battle,
connections to the gods and to other supernatural forces. Odysseusshows many signs of heroic traits
throughout his quest in The Odyssey. Odysseus is put into numerous life threatening situations but
he overcomes them. While Odysseus is overcoming the obstacles he is presented with, he
demonstrates that he has the characteristics of a hero. Odysseus shows no signs of being a villian
throughout the entire story as he tries to get back to Ithica, his home, and reunite with his wife,
family and friends.
Odysseus shows how clever and talented he is many times throughout The Odyssey. Odysseus is
very cunning, but this does not make him a villian because he uses it to help his crew survive on
their quest back to Ithica. Odysseus does not use his cunning to trick innocent people into doing
something for Odysseus personal gain. Odysseus shows how cunning he is when he tells
Polyphemus his name is noman, so the other Cyclops will not come to Polyphemus aid when they
blind him. Another example is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. The Importance Of Sleep Deprivation The average amount of sleep obtained by high school students per night is classified as sleep deprivation, which negatively cognitive functions including: mood/emotion regulation, verbal, visual, and auditory processing, concentration/attention, and memory. The focus of this paper is sleep deprivation. Concepts necessary to understanding sleep and sleep deprivation are sleep control mechanisms, stages of sleep, and the different types of sleep deprivation. There are two biological mechanisms in the body that regulate sleep. Both processes interact and balance one another, and together are known as the two process model of sleep wake regulation. These two sleep controlling mechanisms consist of: circadian rhythm, which is also referred to as process C, and sleep wake homeostasis, called process S. Circadian rhythm is the regulation of the internal processes and levels of alertness in the body controlled by the hypothalamus. The two parts to circadian rhythm include the circadian drive for arousal, and the circadian alerting system. The circadian drive for arousal is the tendency towards wakefulness, and arousal and alertness generated by alerting pulses of the circadian alerting system. The circadian alerting system is an alerting pulse sent out by the suprachiasmatic nucleus throughout the day, which counteracts increasing homeostatic sleep pressure and creates the circadian drive for arousal. The circadian rhythm is governed by one s biological clock , which is also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Over Speeding Persuasive Speech Over Speeding Over speeding is a common habit on the roads globally. Several people lose their lives annually because they are driving beyond the speed limits or fall victims of an over speeding vehicle. This means that all road users have an obligation to adhere to the road safety measures in order to reduce the number of increasing fatalities on the road. Australian government through the transport commission came up with various commercial ads aired on the television and digital media with a purpose of communicating a specific intention; road safety. This paper will focus on a commercial ad on over speeding. The ad titled don t fool yourself, speed kills was launched in 1995. This followed a death tool of 418 on Victorian road. The ad was simply called mum in a Hurry and uploaded on you tube in 2009. It is a one minute commercial. The commercial is owned and managed by Australian Transport Commission (TAC Victoria) for its anti speed adverts. A mother who is in a hurry drives her vehicle at a high speed and in a reckless manner that she almost crushes other cars on the road. The woman could not contain her speed when a pet crossed the road and a boy; Scottie who was running after it is knocked down and dies. The idea of speed being a killer is justifiable from the woman s over speeding and death of the boy. Visual technique as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Assimilation Of The United States Constitution Essay America has the United States Constitution as its map of operation. This Constitution s Preamble states that ...in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, and insure domestic tranquility...promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity... If this statement is true, there would be no need to research whether assimilation or separatism would be ideal for minorities to enjoy domestic tranquility and/ or liberty. As a minority, we would not have to think about what we lose or gain if we choose assimilation or separatism. In order for assimilation to occur a minority group becomes an integrated part of the majority group; this assimilation results in non distinguishing of one group from another by cultural characteristics. In order for this process to be complete, it must entail, not only an active effort by the minority group to shed all distinguishing actions and beliefs, and also complete unqualified acceptance of that individual by the dominant society. Implementation of this process will gradually integrate the minority into the system, causing all groups to be culturally similar with their differences no longer a basis for prejudice from the dominant group. (Dubois, Miley 172) The rationale for assimilation from the structural sociologist s point of view is that assimilation is the best way to reduce cultural differences between the dominant group and the majority group. They also insist that there would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why Is Shakespeare The Licorice Of Literature Shakespeare: The Licorice of Literature Shakespeare s works are commonly taught in the American public education system. For every student who claims they d rather walk on nails or some equally gruesome alternative to reading Shakespeare, there is another person who claims him to be a literary god. Its reception among students and the general population is highly polarized, just a the treat, licorice, is. Whether you detest or adore it, you ve heard of it. Julius Caesar, a unique play about a unique person, is one of Shakespeare s most revered and critiqued works. The play has been carefully scrutinized by critics from all of the ages since the release. The responses are broad; from an excellent drama to one of Shakespeare s weaker works, everyone has an opinion on Julius Caesar. Ben Jonson, a 17th century poet, wrote an emotional piece serenading Shakespeare in which he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the play Julius Caesar disappointed him. He claimed it to be cold and unaffecting, compared with some other of Shakespeare s plays, (Cerasno). The play has been praised for its remarkable historical accuracy; Shakespeare s probable access to Plutarch s history writings were to thank. Oddly enough, Samuel Johnson blamed Shakespeare s strict adherence to historical truth for the play s dramatical lackings. If Shakespeare would have had complete creative freedom without the restrictions of historical accuracy, then the play would have been more of a success to Samuel Johnson. Many others in the 17th century thought the complete opposite of this idea. The play is dramatical excellence and historical truth according to an unnamed critic in the 17th century. To this critic, the play manages to be both excellent in its entertainment value and in its historical accuracy (Cerasno). There is little doubt that the play has historical truths, but whether or not it is an excellent drama, is up to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How To Win Moneyball Analysis Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis tells the story of the Oakland A s, a baseball team that was economically at a disadvantage, and how they relied on statistics to compete with wealthier teams. At the time, the process of selecting players was strongly based on usual statistics such has batting average, RBIs, stolen bases, and number of hits. The Oakland A s General Manager, Billy Beane, changed the game by focusing on Sabermetrics, an unconventional sports analysis that valued the less obvious statistics of players, such as on base and slugging percentage, that indirectly contribute to overall wins for the team. With this change in standards for his players, Billy Beane was able to sign players at much lower costs because traditional managers overlooked their values. Billy Beane hired Paul DePodesta as his assistant to incorporate sabermetrics as the two were inspired by the idea of baseball analysis. Even with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sabermetrics successfully undermined conventional ideas of player values when the A s lost their three highest economically valued players. Jason Isringhausen, for example, was considered so because as a closing pitcher he had a high number of saves in a game. After studying number of saves as a statistic, Billy Beane and Paul DePodesta discovered that saves are not often determined by the closing pitcher. As a result, Beane was able to take the high amount of money he made from this trade and use it to invest in his own team, and he showed that he could still win without high value players. Still, like any other statistic, there were outliers. Jason Giambi was another huge snatch for teams. With what is presumed to be spray paint, no pride in genocide and change the date were written across the statute. • 8. Healthy Predator-Prey Relationships Organisms within a predator prey relationship are intertwined in a co evolutionary battle for survival. Each depends on food, shelter, the environment, and the random chance of evolution in order to maintain balance in the relationship. If chance favors one side too heavily, it throws the species into disequilibrium and can lead to the demise of one or more species. Because of the potential severity of the consequences, it is important to investigate the contributing factors that help maintain a healthy predator prey dynamic. In order to reach solid conclusions, a well rounded research approach is required, lest one side of this is disproportionally represented. First, the survival mechanisms of prey will be explored through the example of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Preys have a more difficult role in the predator and prey dynamics as they have to expend energy in foraging for themselves as well as high predation risks. This also adds to the disequilibrium in the predator and prey relationship as prey s need more expenditure of energy for both foraging and escaping. In a research study done by Luttbeg et al. (1999) looked at behavioral response to predation risk in a predator and prey dynamic model. When the spiders are not around the grasshoppers eat more and grow more. (Luttbeg et al., 1999 However, when predation risk was present this tended to cause reduced feeding activity in order to increase vigilance and predator awareness thus imposing a great life history cause (Luttbeg et al., 1999).). Therefore, predator prey dynamics is highly affected and requires equilibrium in the way the prey chooses to balance its trade offs of foraging and predatory risk. In order to maintain the equilibrium of the predator prey dynamic the prey must find way to maximize food intake and minimize predator ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Decision Making And Judgement Calls Most decisions are made with analysis, but some are judgment calls not susceptible to analysis due to time or information constraints. Please write about a judgment call you ve made recently that couldn t be analyzed. It can be a big or small one, but should focus on a business issue. What was the situation, the alternatives you considered and evaluated, and your decision making process? Be sure to explain why you chose the alternative you did relative to others considered. It feels as if we rarely have situations with sufficient data to make decisions clear and absolute. Maybe those situations do occur frequently, but because they are obvious, we don t even register them as decisions. Leadership hinges on effective decision making and judgement calls. That includes gathering information for analysis when available, but also recognizing how not to be caught in analysis paralysis. Effective leaders constantly evaluate the situation, recognize the benefits, risks, and constraints and move forward. Nothing impedes an organization more than inability to commit to a path forward. As Intel s facilities organization worked to transition the entire structure of how we contracted and executed construction projects on Intel s Ronler Acres campus, I made countless judgement calls. One in particular stands out. I needed to decide if we would use cost based incentives as part of the contracting strategy and execution processes, and if we decided to use them, how it would ... • 10. The Birth Of The Periodic Table In September 1860 the birth of the Periodic table began. A group of the world s best chemists assembled in Germany to discuss the issues of atomic mass. At this meeting an Italian chemist, Stanislao Cannizzaro, introduced the right way to accurately measure the relative mass of an atom. After the new method was introduced chemists started to recognize similarities in the properties of various elements and placed them into families. In this earlier stages of the periodic table there were four main chemists; Dobereiner, Newlands, Lothar Meyer, and Dmitri Mendeleev that played a substantial role in the development of the periodic table. Dobereiner started with a few family groups each containing three elements. Newlands put the elements of those families in repeating groups called octaves. Meyer noted additional repeating properties. Mendeleev put it all together into what has become the periodic table of the elements. The German chemist, named Dobereiner, in 1829 noted some of the first elemental similarities. His observations began with bromine, which had just been discovered. He noticed that the properties of bromine were similar to chlorine and iodine. Not only were they related but also various properties of bromine, including the atomic weight, fell midway between the properties of chlorine and iodine, but also there was a pattern within the group of regularly increasing atomic weights. As he did his research he noticed a couple other groups of elements with patterns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Technology As A Way Of Life And Express The new generation of students entering and already enrolled in university are members of a digital age growing up surrounded by many forms of digital technology as they are the first generation of youth to have internet technology easily available at their disposal. This current generation have already been labelled by sociologist as digital natives (Prensky 2001a) and the net generation (Tapscott 1998) (Prensky 2001a; Tapscott 1998 as cited in Murphy 2010). Technology is not something new to these students as its presence in their life have made them quite comfortable to the idea, as they perceive technology as a way of life and express a need to feel connected at all times (Russo et al. 2014). Although what is new are the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As university professors are being presented with new types of students, there is a call to integrate advanced technology into their course design, and ultimately, educators must lead the way and use the technology in a fashion that positively aids their students: technology should be used with the needs of the learners in mind and with the goal of improving student learning as the focus (Russo et al. 2014). If this idea is implemented and acknowledged correctly, then many advantages can arise that enhance student learning in university classrooms. The first benefit of instructors introducing advanced technology into their teaching is that technology connects with students, which ultimately arouses their interest because technology as a whole is a relevant and important part of student s lives. When students are interested and engaged in the class material they become motivated to pay attention and focus on what they are being taught, which leads to an improved retention rate of information. This relates to the DVD that West, Pudsey and Dunk West created for teacher to give to their students to work within their learning, and they found that it easily assimilates into their everyday life world (2010). Another advantage is that the use of technology supports collaboration skills within students. It is important for everyone to have a basic understanding of what makes a computer. As technology advances, it s important that you be able to make an educated decision on whether to upgrade or to replace your current systems. The difference can be a good deal of your hard earned money. Therefore, I will be detailing the Operating System, Processor, Memory, RAM, and a few other things that will help you make good decisions when purchasing new machines. Let s start with the Operating System. Chris Woodford describes the operating system as the core software in a computer that (essentially) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course now days, you can surf the internet, write a word document, while listening to your favorite playlist on iTunes. We have come a really long way. The next thing we will discuss is Memory. Your hard drive allows you to store all the applications, programs, pictures, and any other data that you might like to save on your machine. Hard drives now come in many different sizes depending on your needs. They range from 100 GB to 3.9 Terabytes. The average home computer has 500 GB of memory. We also have Solid State Drives which are said to be more reliable because there is no spinning mechanism to worry about possibly failing. Now we must discuss the RAM (Random Access Memory). Even though this is wiped clean every time you shut down your computer, your random access memory stores the location of that data. Because of this, the CPU doesn t need to go back out to the address bus and find the data s location on your hard drive. It s like going to the library. If you need to know the definition of a word, you don t need to get up repeatedly, walk over to the shelf with the dictionary and open it to the corresponding page. Instead you can just take the dictionary off of the shelf and keep it at the table until you are done. Your RAM does the exact same thing, thus speeding up the process. Now, I ... Stephen Tierney On The Brexit Referendum In order to properly understand the analysis of Stephen Tierney on the brexit Referendum and how democratic it was, one must first fully understand the concept of democracy. In other words, what is democracy? Is democracy a fallacy? Democracy may be a word familiar to most, but it is a concept still misunderstood and misused in a time when totalitarian regimes and military dictatorships alike have attempted to claim popular support by pinning democratic labels upon themselves. There were obviously certain counters and political objections to this. Steps can be taken by all levels of government and the private sector that this new reality is creating, says James McKellar. Now that Canadians are speaking out about their concerns for the market and their stability, and professionals in the industry are beginning to become concerned, it is now the governments turn to speak and try to fix the problem or help ease the minds of canadians. According to the Aurora Banner, higher levels of governments are making moves to address the issue, including the federal government s announcements to move and to tighten mortgagerules and closing a tax loophole for foreign investors. This means that essentially the government will be making it harder for people to qualify for a mortgage and for foreign investors when trying to purchase real estate. According to the Toronto Star, As of Friday ,October 28, 2016, Minister Bill Morneau says that the government continues to be vigilant in the monitoring the market , so we have no further actions under consideration in terms of housing . Their most recent change was to end tax breaks for non residents and make it harder to qualify for mortgages. Christopher Hitchens was a British American intellectual and writer who was known worldwide for his controversial opinions and provocative forms of expression. His works were published in a number of books and in multitudes of magazines, such as Vanity Fair, Slate, and The Atlantic, just to name a few. However, a large portion of his time was spent actively expressing his opinions in televised debates, public forums, and university speeches. His interest in political science after graduating from Balliol Collegein Oxfordmolded his ideas into a general theme of anti authoritarianism. The use of such words gives his arguments a sense of sophistication, which serves to make his arguments sound legitimate. Furthermore, through scathing remarks about his subject, his humorously brutal tone serves to engage and entertain his audience. Witty comments, such as But the two greatest achievements of Austria are to have convinced the world that Hitler was German and that Beethoven was Viennese, allow Hitchens to discredit his subject and say that it has not had any real accomplishments. Altogether, he demonstrates that valid criticism of anyone can be entertaining, yet scholarly. One distinct style that set Hitchens apart from most thought provoking scholars is his use of obscene and politically incorrect language. This works to shock the reader and to engage them even further. • 20. The Importance Of Feudalism In Europe Real Draft Feudalism in Europe during the middle ages came out of the necessity for both order and protection from the attacks and raids of the Vikings or Germanic warriors who traveled and pillaged Europe around the 5th to the 11th century. The Roman Empire s destruction in the 5th century A.D., along with rulers failing to maintain their authority and rule allowed nobles and those in power to take more power of the areas that were under them. The people s protections that were more common under a centralized government, as in the times of the Roman Empire vanished. As such, the peasants and the lower class found it necessary to negotiate with local rulers for security from enemy forces. This system included lords and serfs. Now, the nobles were stark contrasts to the peasants. Nobles exercised greater power economically, politically, and in other areas. Serfs could include servants, and peasant farmers. A lord could give land to these people in exchange for protection. This process of giving land as payment or reward was also known as a fief. In order to recognize the importance of how the feudal system came to be, as well as analyzing its strengths and weaknesses, we must go back in time to briefly see how the Roman Empire governed. In the Roman Empire, there were opportunities for aspiring men to achieve a better life. A main example is seen through their governing system. During this time, Curus Honorum was in effect. This was designed for Roman senators. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. St. Thomas Aquinas Arguments On Lawful Suicide The topic of whether or not suicide is lawful is very popular among both ancient and modern philosophers. Two of the most notable minds to opposing the issue include St. Thomas Aquinas and Immanuel Kant. Both men come from different worlds separated by the centuries. Even though they both oppose lawful suicide; they approach the topic in differing ways. I will analyze both of their arguments, compare the similarities and differences, as well as provide my own though which I find to be most agreeable. St. Thomas Aquinas is a widely renowned Christian theologian and philosopher, as well as an important doctor of the Church. Because of his deeply rooted Catholic faith, Aquinas reasoning is based heavily on Church doctrine and scripture. However, he is also known for his study of Aristotle, whose more practical views he intertwines with Christian teaching. For Aquinas, the idea of suicide is an obvious violation of Christian doctrine as well as the worst possible offence against God. Aquinas argument against the idea of lawful suicide is rooted in the rules within his definition of natural law. To Aquinas natural law is based on practical reason of beings. This practical reason is conveys the notion that all beings naturally seek good ends. We are naturally inclined to do good actions and avoid evil ones. His view is influenced from Christian... She emerged after independence, deliberating on the highly debatable contemporary issues. Anita Desai is a keen observer of the society and the position of the women in the contemporary society draws her special attention. The novels of Anita Desai are noted for the profound probing into the inner life and feelings of the women, bounded by the shackles of the middle class. They are the explorations of the family problems, which perhaps is the chief cause behind the estrangement of the women from their family. Literature for her is not a means of escaping reality but an exploration and an inquiry. She prefers the private to the public world and avoids the traditional grooves of external reality and physical world. In fact, her real concern is the thorough investigation of human psyche, inner climate, and she unravels the mystery of the inner life of her characters. Her main engagement is to study human existence and human predicament, her exploration being a quest for self. Anita s main focus, in this way, is to depict the psychic states of her protagonists at some crucial juncture of their lives. The uniqueness of Anita Desai s fiction, however, lies in her exploration of feminine sensibility. A child recreates the mother child exclusivity and allows women to return to their primary object love unit however, it interrupts it for men, who find themselves sidelined in the relationship. Finally, the author examines how gender personality shapes a woman s mothering capacities, and thus reproduces the cycle of mothering. The different structures of the oedipal triangle (binary for men, triangular for women) contribute to the formation of gender identity in children. The psychoanalytic object choice also ensures that the heterosexual relationship will result in women mothering and taking on the role of primary caretaker, leading to an asymmetrical organization of parenthood where men are mainly absent or removed. However, male dominant households ensure that women will remain unfulfilled in the relationship, leading to a desire for a child, and rearing this child in a socially gendered family. In this manner, due to women s nurturing role and their narcissistic attachment to their daughters, they contribute to the perpetuation of their own social roles and position in the hierarchy of gender . The Psychodynamics of the Family has greatly resonated in feminist literary theory and psychoanalytical theory. The Death Of The Indian Independence Movement The Right to Life Leader of the Indian independence movement, Mahatma Gandhi, once said, It seems to me as clear as daylight that abortion would be a crime (Gandhi, Mahatma). Yet federal law in the United States has given women the right to kill their unborn children through the Roe v. Wade ruling of 1973. In the years since, over 58,000,000 American children have lost their lives without even having the chance to protect themselves. In 2015 alone, 1,058,400 children were killed by abortion in the United States, and 43,800,000 worldwide. The war against children of abortion is the bloodiest in world history (Abortions in America). The Declaration of Independence declares life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness inalienable human rights. If the Supreme Court takes this right from the unborn, why not others? Abortion should be illegal in America for the following reasons: first, the obvious point at which to understand human life s origin is conception, not birth; second, in depriving human beings of life, the Roe v. Waderuling is itself unconstitutional; finally, abortion has medical, psychological and spiritual effects on others beyond the child being deprived of life. However, the Roman people did not have sugar and therefore did not manufacture or consume the marshmallows, chocolate, and candy canes depicted in the Candyland game. What the Romans did have, and love, was bread, so we felt it would be appropriate replace candy with bread for the purpose of our game. This change is even more fitting because of the well known phrase panem et circenses, meaning bread and games, coined by Juvenal circa 100 A.D. in his poem Satire X. The phrase is intended to illustrate Juvenal s contempt for the Roman public, who is so easily swayed to vote by cheap food and entertainment. In Roman society, providing bread and games became one of the most effective ways to rise to power. In 140 B.C., this policy had been officially put into place with the passage of the grain dole, or Cura Annonae ( care for the grain supply ). Like all religions, nationalism tries to answer the problems of life, for instance, who the person is, from where do they come from, what is the person s legacy and etc. All these questions could sometimes be answered through nationalism and that s why some people could be extremely nationalistic. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some way religious nationalists often occur to their religion traditionally and follow specific ways that their ancestors believed in because religious people would only refer to their religion s text but religious nationalists would refer to ancestors. Religion and nationalism could sometimes be separated by the idea of politicizing religion or having the influence on religion to politics. For example in Saudi Arabia they have the effect of religion on their political ideologies and they make laws according to the Islam. The most reason why religion can be similarized with nationality is because it gives a sense of national unity and it s a belief shared by a group of people and that kind of shows how its similar to nationalism. The idea of religion supports the persons national identity, shares similar ethnicity with a group of people, language and culture also that s how nationalism and religion are similar. Whatever the case may be, the modern religion and nationalism, nationalism would win over religion because everyone sort of follows tradition more than religion these days and tradition could lead to a specific belief and build up a national group. Linnenkamp Doyle writes, hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to treat disease something that she documents in her case study. This medical idea of hypnosis needs further exploration in terms of how it has evolved and sparked debate amongst medical and dental practitioners. Four very significant hypnotherapists are arguably Mesmer, Braid, Esdaile and Elliotson, all putting emphasis on the medical aspect of hypnotherapy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, I will now move onto describing the psychological and physiological effects of hypnosis. Robin Waterfield provides a valid list of this when he describes a high degree of rapport between the hypnotist and subject , use of the imagination and also the generation of expectations within the subject s mind. As we can see in Linnenkamp Doyle s case study of hypnotherapy as a cure for blindness below, these expectations ideally relate to the suggestions imposed upon the subject of hypnosis. The suggestions and expectations will often relate to factors such as the cure or severity of a disease suffered by the subject or the lack of pain during dental procedures undergone by the subject. It is clear from the effects listed by Waterfield, that the psychological and physiological effects of hypnotherapy are highly linked to the state of receptivity and power of suggestion in the subject and hypnotist. Relaxation is both an effect of hypnotherapy and part of its principals. In terms of the latter, relaxation on the part of the subject of hypnotherapy facilitates the receptivity that we have seen to be desirable for the optimal success of hypnotic techniques. Relaxation also constitutes a boundary between hypnosis and meditation. As shown in Do You Speak American (2005), AAE originates from the time of the trans Atlantic slave trade. English was introduced to trade ports in Africa by colonialists, resulting in the creation of pidgin a mixture of English and African languages that is still in use today. More recently, African Americans who have moved from the South to the North have been more segregated, creating greater divergence between AAE and SAE. As many African Americans maintain ties to the South, such as continued contact with friends or family in the south, similarities between AAE and southern dialects remain. However, each group have selected features that are important, such as maintaining r in the North or keeping certain features as a way of preserving history, resulting in different dialectpatterns between the North and the South to develop. It is arguable that African American Englishis a dialect of contemporary American English. While AAE is different and is easily distinguishable from Standard American English, the two dialects still share similarities and are forms of vernacular English. As AAE stems from and shares many linguistic patterns with Creole and other African languages, it is possible to argue that AAE is in fact not related to contemporary American English at all. However, I feel that the different influences on language are simple markers of regional variation and not enough to fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Strategic Plan For EHR When implementing a new EHR, departments need to have a plan in place when the system causes change to the process and design within the organization. Often times, regulations and policies need to be changed to coincide with a new system in place, such as a new EHR program (University of Scranton, 2017). A way to mitigate this situation is to start at the federal level s regulations and work down the scope from there. This will guarantee that mandatory rules are still being followed and there is successful transition into future policies. Additionally, funding will be crucial to the organization s ability to have a new EHR system. Each department needs to ensure they are properly tracking funds and that they can afford to upgrade.... By using the procurement process, the administrator can ensure they are making the right decisions on goods and services at the right price (Purchase Control, 2017). When an administrator is required to follow specific policies and guidelines, the steps in the process need to entertain the best EHR system vendor without causing any delays with implementation of the new program. There are 7 steps to the procurement process, beginning with identifying the need to purchase the goods and services. During step one, the administrator would supply potential vendors with a request for proposal (RFP). The RFP is a bidding technique used by the identity requesting the procurement for the vendor s business. By doing this, the administrator has made it known that they have finances available for the EHR system they are looking into (Wikipedia, 2017). The second step in the process is exploring possible vendors. During this step the administrator is using the request for information (RFI) to investigate the ability of the vendor to follow through with the needs of the EHR system they are supplying. The RFI is used to receive hard copy information about the vendors and their supplies. The format allows the administrator to compare multiple suppliers (Wikipedia, 2017). At this point, the administrator would supply possible vendors with a request for quotation (RFQ) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The leadership was abroad and there was little consistency of purpose among the party in Russia. However, by the summer of 1922, the Bolsheviks had become the dominant force, and a new communist state had emerged from their success. The purpose of this essay is to explain this transformation. In addition, they were reluctant to leave the war without salvaging some prestige and pride from the current situation. They were still hopeful of an allied victory. However, the decision to continue with the war was to prove extremely unfortunate. It was unpopular, as there appeared to be few aims to the continued fighting. The government quickly lost the support of a large proportion of the troops. These disillusioned peasants in uniform provided excellent targets for Bolshevik propaganda. What is more, the Russian situation in the war worsened and humiliating defeat began to loom large on the horizon. Russia was a poverty stricken, backward power in 1917. It also had a majority peasant population. The continuation of the war meant that the key issues of peace, bread and land that Lenin so aptly highlighted could not be addressed. Reforms and visible improvement in the peasant way of life were vital if the government wished to gain their support and maintain its power. However, revolutionary forces, suppressed under Tsarist Russia came to the surface under the new, weaker and less repressive Provisional Government to create a body known as the Soviet. • 45. The Bedside Shift Of Patient Participation Abstract Recognizing that patient participation is vital to their personal medical care, healthcare organizations are conducting nursing staff shift reports at the bedside in the patient s presence. Bedside reports aim to avoid communication failures by exchanging real time information at shift change. Bedside reporting is a new alternative to the customary change of shift report that traditionally takes place in a unit hallway or at the nurse s station. This provides an opportunity for questions before valuable information is lost or overlooked. In this literature review of bedside shift reporting, three studies were compared in order to show that a patient s perspective is valued as they can see and hear from the team of professionals who are providing their care. Bedside shift report also improves the nurses understanding of the patient s condition as the nurse is able to visualize the patient and share relevant information. Bedside Shift Report Literature Review The bedside shift report occurs between the outgoing and oncoming nurse next to the patient s bedside at shift change. It is intended to engage patients in the conversation and exchange of information. This gives both nurses and the patient the opportunity to ask questions and verify important information about the patient s history and care plan. In a research article by Lamond (2000), the assistive role of the nursing shift report in information processing and plan of care discussion was examined. This study ... • 46. Characteristics Of Merchant Of Venice A Comedy William Shakespeare, widely regarded as the world s greatest playwright, has revolutionized the world of English literature with his plays. Some of these plays are clear cut comedies and tragedies, while others are more ambiguous. The Merchant of Venice is a play that falls under the latter type, and it has been hotly contested whether this literary work should be classified a comedy or a tragedy. However, since the majority of the characters received a happy ending, the abundance of comic relief scenes and characters, and lightheartedness of the plot relative to other Shakespearean works leads me to conclude that The Merchant of Veniceis indeed a comedy. One of the characteristics of a comedy is that it usually contains a happy resolution of conflict, and this was definitely reflected in the conclusion of The Merchant of Venice. Happy endings usually pertain to the protagonists or the main characters surviving or outlasting misfortune. Antonio being spared and cleared of any debt he owed Shylock by the Venetian courts (Act IV, scene i) is a prime example of the protagonist receiving satisfactory closure. In the drama building up to the court scene, Antonio s best friend, Bassanio, had cut a deal with the devil as he borrowed money from the shrewd Shylock, with the stipulation that repayment would either be in ducats or a pound of Antonio s flesh (Act I, scene iii). I think the idea from transcendentalism that there is no form of superior intelligence is the reason as to why Bartleby prefers not to (6) in all forms of requests. This is the moment in the story where Bartleby assumes the position of a transcendentalist. This point is where he breaks free of societal duties and refuses all help from the narrator, denying money and shelter from him. Although critiques such as Walter E. Anderson argue that Bartleby s isolation shows Christian moral reading is the correct context to assume, I disagree. There are allusions to biblical texts such as the narrator referring to himself and Bartleby as sons of Adam (11). But I think Bartleby is isolated to show how he is alone from everyone, living in a cubical, and being surrounded by walls. Although Christianity gives feelings of isolation with God, Bartleby is isolated with his spiritual self, saying he would prefer to make no change at all (21). Bartleby determines his fate by questioning himself and his societal roles. He does not look to Christ in any form, not believing in a higher intellectual form. Instead he finds serenity in his civil disobedience. Another form of symbolism important to Bartleby s isolation is the imagery of walls . The story s setting is on Wall Street and at the office the men work at look upon a white wall (1) and have an unobstructed view of a lofty brick wall (2). The walls represent society s blocks on Bartleby and his progress in society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the perspective of Native Americans, the Spanish and English empires in America had more similarities than differences. Assess the validity of this generalization. Response Strategy It is important to develop a clear thesis on the validity of the statement at the outset of the essay. A good essay could be developed on either side of the issue or in support of a middle of the road position. Supporting paragraphs should be developed to build the position chosen. Mercantilist ideas emphasized that nations should strive toward economic self sufficiency and that the power of a nation should be measured by the amount of its gold and silver reserves. Ultimately, a nation should arrange to produce everything it needed for its own citizens and sell surpluses to for hard currency. This metal reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations to pay for wars or solve shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an important part in this economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by producing things that could not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for ships. Colonists could also provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products, such as woolen cloth or beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become more fully developed, while the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw materials. To insure that the American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British wealth, various Navigation Acts were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the colonies, England, and the rest of the world. In many cases, ships carrying American products to other European countries had to stop in England first to pay duties before continuing onward.
