3. Introduction
Digital Twin Spark Ignition has two spark plugs that
use to ignite the charge in the combustion chamber.
2 spark plugs at either ends of the
combustion chamber help in faster and better
combustion.
It only use in the petrol engine.
4. Why do we use the DTS-i in 4-
stroke Petrol Engine
In 4-stroke petrol engine at ignition time the air
and fuel mixture does not burn completely. But
when DTS-i system use in engine the rich
mixture completely burn and the ignition time
decrease. And power of engine increases
6. Engine Construction
The engine used on the Alfa 164 T. Spark is a four-
in-line cylinder unit whose weight has been
considerably reduced with all aluminum-alloy
engine block, cylinder head, oil sump and tappet
covers.
Eight counterweights ensure optimal balancing of
the high strength nitride steel crankshaft.
The pressed-in cast iron cylinder liners feature wet
mounting for more effective heat dissipation
7. DTS-I Engine Element
The construction of DTS-i engine is
same as that of the conventional 4-Stroke
engine. It consists of following parts:
Piston
Cylinder
Crankshaft
Connecting rod
8. Fly wheel
Carburettor
2-sparkplug
2-valves
Here the only change made is that the 2
sparkplug placed at the two opposite end of the
combustion chamber At 90 degree to each other.
9. Working of DTS-I system
When the rich mixture of air and fuel enter
in the combustion chamber , the two spark
plugs
fixed at opposite end of engine cylinder
generated spark and this spark burn the
mixture that burned mixture gives power to
the 4-stroke engine. Here spark generated by
the microchip .
10. There are some advance technology used in DTS-i
engine which makes it more powerful than the
conventional single sparkplug 4-stroke engine like
1. Trics III technology (Throttle Responsive
Ignition control System 3rd generation)
2. CDI technology
11. TRICS III
Throttle Responsive Ignition Control System 3rd
generation. It is a means of controlling the Ignition by
operating the Throttle.
Based on a particular amount of Throttle opening, the
Magnetic field generated by the Magnet ,Which opens or
closes the switch .
The switch is connected to the Digital CDI, which signals
the CDI to change the desired Ignition Advance .
12. Digital CDI
A Digital CDI with an 8 bit
microprocessor chip handles
the spark delivery. The
programmed chip’s memory
contains an optimum Ignition
timing for any given engine
rpm, there by obtaining the
best performance
characteristics from the
combustion chamber
14. Revolution in DTS-I Technology
Recently “DTS-I Triple” spark
technology that Bajaj employs on
the new “Pulsar 200NS”.
The “Pulsar 200NS” an engine
that has the world’s only 3 spark
plugs for its single cylinder.
The 3 spark plugs make for
efficient burning of the “air + fuel ”
mixture which benefits and
enhances.
15. Main Characteristics
Digital electronic ignition with two plugs per cylinder
and two ignition distributors;
Twin overhead cams with camshaft timing variation;
Injection fuel feed with integrated electronic twin spark
ignition;
A high specific power;
Compact design and Superior balance;
16. What are the benefits of DTS-I
system
Ignition time decreases.
The rich mixture (air and fuel) completely
burns in combustion chamber.
Power produced by DTS-I more compare to
single spark ignition system.
Increase the pick up of engine
17. Disadvantages of DTS-i system
The engine tends to overheat and loose power at
higher speeds as compared to a single plug
engine.
There may be a kind of knocking sound on the
machine.
If one spark plug get damaged then we have to
replace both .

19. Bike in which we use the dts-i
engine?
In india bajaj has patented for dtsi
technology . At present
platina,xcd125,135,discover150,pulsar
135,150,180,200,200NS,220 are using the
dtsi (digital twin spark ignition system).
which means the petrol enters into the
cylinder burns more efficiently.
20. Conclusion
I have concluded that perfect Combustion in Internal
Combustion engine is not possible. So for the instantaneous
burning of fuels in I.C. engine twin spark system can be used
which producing twin sparks at regular interval can help to
complete the combustion.
Due to this technology following implementation in engine
were happened:
Less pollution is created.
Due to complete combustion average of bike get raise.
Noise & vibrations are minimized.
Increase in life of engine & engine parts.
Higher pickup is achieved.
