Abuse Of Animal Abuse
Did you know about 10 million animals get abused and neglected every year? Circuses and Zoos are
prime examples of animal abuse and neglect. Animals like tigers, elephants, dolphins, and whales
should be in their natural habitat. These animals shouldn t be in small rusty cages, and crowded pools.
There are also people who illegally fight animals for money; i.e. Dog fighting, cock fighting, etc.
These animals fight for their lives, but the owners don t care about whether or not they die, they just
want money. Animals should not be used for our entertainment. Animals are not given the choice of
going into the entertainment world. People gamble on dog fighting, cock fighting, etc. Wild cats and
elephants in circuses endure abuse and neglect to be taught how to jump through hoops of fire.
SeaWorld neglects their animals once they get sick, and these animals are given merely any space.
Animal fighting is illegal in all 50 states in the U.S. and in district Of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto
Rico. Yet animal fighting happens almost every day. Most of the animals that fight are dogs, cocks, or
hogs. Dog owners like to train their dogs how to be aggressive. They chain their dog outside out of
reach from other animals and people. The dogs are given basic veterinary care and nutrition because
the owners care about winning, not about the dogs themselves. Some fighting dogs get steroids to
enhance their muscles and increase their aggressiveness. These dogs also get legal and illegal drugs

Bob Fosse s Dance
The music changes now as the musicians start to play a march. The dancers then remove the flower
from their hats pull their hats down low to resemble a soldiers headwear. In addition, they turn their
canes upside down holding them as if they were guns and start marching off stage. Simultaneously, the
lights turn dark blue on stage and the dancers faces turn serious. Their once extravagant and
lighthearted movement is now stiff and somewhat serious. The audience however, laughs at this shift
in theme. All the dancers march off stage except the center girl, she continues to march in a circle
making faces and poking fun at the others. Finally, she leaves the stage laughing loudly and
dramatically at herself. She comes on one more time only to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Those created by John Tiller and the other created by Laurence Tiller. Elswit explains that even though
the groups were led by different people they both wanted to produce the same outcome, unison. The
signature synchronization became a potent image of Weimar visual culture (Elswit, 51). Fosse s
choreography was primarily based on the principle of unison within this piece. Elswit argues that the
group was created as a way of responding to the industrialization of America. The girls were often
mistaken for being an American group because of this aspect. As a result the choreographic elements
were inspired by the creation of factories. Fosse s choreography was inspired by these events as he
adhered strict machine like formations of dancers within the piece. Each formation was linear and
showed order. Elswit also says that the use of the term Girls to refer to female dancers (Elswit, 52),
was also selected in order to exaggerate the rise of mass produced products for them to buy (Elswit,
52). Elswitt sheds light onto the reasoning behind Fosse s decisions in relation to

Slavery and The Tropicalia Movement in Brazil
Starting in 1538, nearly four million Africans were taken from Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Congo and
Mozambique to be forced into slavery in Brazil s sugar plantations and mining industries. The slave
trade was eradicated in 1850, and by 1871 the Brazilian legislature passed the Law of the Free Womb.
This law was designed to grant freedom to slave s newborn children and served as a precursor to the
abolition of slavery in 1888. They made home for themselves in Brazil, as it had the largest amount of
African diaspora. Former slaves and their descendants established an Afro Brazilian culture and the
cultural traditions, notably musical, brought along with them inevitably mingled with those of Brazil.
They brought new rhythmic complexities and melodic patterns with them, and were recognized for
using music as way of bringing people together through communal participation. Their musical
traditions have maintained very well preserved and were legitimate contributions to Brazil s culture.
Afro Brazilian influences became fundamental components for a new generation of musicians in
Brazil, and pride in their African roots flourished for the first time.
On a typical evening in Brazil, an overabundance of vibrant rhythms and people on every corner are
embellished in eccentric fashion filled the streets. Percussion beats, bells, trumpets, whistles and other
instruments sound through the streets as people dance or play along. Music is a defining factor of
identity in Brazilian culture.

All Art, Including Music, Is Directly Influenced By The
All art, including music, is directly influenced by the environment in which the artist lives. It is
impossible to create art in a vacuum, unaffected by the society and events surrounding you. The time
period, location, and social changes and innovations can have a direct effect on the art produced.
Political events, especially wars, can have a strong influence on the music and art produced at that
time. For example, music may become more patriotic during a time of war as the composers strive to
publicize their national pride. I will explore this idea through the composer Igor Stravinsky and his
three most famous ballets in terms of music and choreography. Since I have a retrospective
perspective, I will be able to analyze the situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His wide range of locations creates an expansive social and political influence on his works and their
choreography. Similar to many famous composers, Stravinsky did not study music from the time he
was a small child, but studied law and philosophy at St Petersburg University (Taruskin, White).
Throughout the course of his life, Stravinsky composed almost 100 works, ranging in genres. He
began to be commissioned by the Ballet Russes in 1909 and by the following year was asked by Serge
Diaghilev to produce The Firebird (Taruskin, White). The Ballet Russes was a Paris ballet company
run by Serge Diaghilev that was known for its creative and inventive performances. Many people did
not like the Ballet Russes innovative style and chose to watch classic ballet companies instead in order
to continue the classical style that many believed ballet should express. However, Diaghilev was
determined to do something unique with his ballet company and they made their performances
extremely modern (Lockspeiser). The Firebird was the work that set Stravinsky s career on fire, and
allowed his name to become spoken with respect and fame. It premiered at the Paris Opera on June
25, 1910. It may have been fate that this commission was offered to Stravinsky because it is said that
the Ballet Russes originally commissioned another composer for this piece, but that his slow progress
forced them to offer it to

Multiculturalism Has Had a Rough Start
Obama once said that a multicultural society shows strong economy and a strong country. But is it
true? What about those who cannot integrate? What about all those people who look down at the
immigrants and always blame them for the bad things there happening? And is it a strong society if it
cannot provide its citizens? In Denmark we are having a hard time accepting our immigrants. We
blame them for almost everything. But it is not our immigrants in general; it is primarily those from
the Middle East. If the immigrants come from Sweden, France, England and so on, we have no
problems with them. We do not blame them for those things there going bad, but why? Is it because of
the cultural differences, or is it just easier to blame the Arabs after 9/11? In the UK and the US they
have more success by integrating the immigrants, but they do as well experience the same problems
with the immigration of Arabs. I believe that it is a result of the huge media covering of the terror
situation in the world. And as long as the media are exhibiting people from the Middle East as
terrorists there will be a general negative opinion about the Arab people, and therefore the accepting of
the people from Arabian will be difficult. The problem with the immigrants is the missing integration
of them in the society. But the Danes cannot be blamed for this, because the immigrants are trans
national. What I mean by that is very simple: the immigrants care more for the countries they escaped

Psychodynamic Theory During The s Dr. Paul Weston
In Treatment s Dr. Paul Weston appears to largely use psychodynamic theory during his sessions with
Sophie, the teenaged gymnast who is seeing him after an accident which is believed to have been a
potential suicide attempt. However, as is the case with most therapists, Paul does not focus solely on
psychodynamics when treating Sophie, drawing on the universal qualities of all therapists as well as
some cognitive techniques. There are several instances of this unique blend of techniques throughout
Sophie s episodes, as well as the continual theme of psychodynamics that seems to be Paul s main
practicing theory. The role of the therapist regardless of their theoretical orientation is to convey to
their clients that they are there to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the claim itself is important for creating a sort of holding environment within the therapy room,
it is also more likely to be effective if it is actually practiced and backed by actions which Paul does.
Regardless of the number of times that Sophie accuses him, yells at him and in one memorable
instance, destroys a decoration in his office, he remains and calm and does not criticize her for her
anger or resentment, merely tries to help her understand what is causing it, without passing judgement
on her for it.
While those are some of the more universal aspects of both therapy and the nature of the therapist that
Paul recreates with Sophie, there are also some theoretical perspective specificities that come through
their sessions. While it doesn t play a major role and only truly appears during their later sessions,
there are instances where Pau employs some cognitive therapy techniques to try and help Sophie. The
key feature of cognitive therapy is that it is our general thoughts or schemas that shape how we
interpret and perceive the world around us and that it is those thoughts and interpretation that produce
our emotional and behavior reactions to situations and events, not the situation itself. In Sophie s case
this would reflect

Similarities Between The Sun Also Rises And The Great Gatsby
The American Dream is something that we as a working class are encouraged to strive for because it is
viewed as the epitome of being successful. Our two novels, The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, are both set during a time Gertrude Stein refers to as a
lost generation . Happening during WWI, the Roaring 20 s became infamous for its lavish lifestyles
and careless ways due to the ongoing war. However, eventually the line between happiness and wealth
starts to blur as people mistakenly try to buy their contentment instead of just expressing how they
feel. Therefore, our characters from the two novels hide behind the partying and the drinking in order
to conceal their true problems. Money has become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Sun Also Rises, Jake and Brett go on this long journey only to end up in a taxi together like
they were in the beginning. Oh, Jake, Brett said, we could have had such a damned good time
together. ... Yes, I said. Isn t it pretty to think so? (Hemingway 247), showing how even after what
they ve gone through they still end up in each other s arms. Whether or not the characters get a chance
at happiness is unclear, but the readers can assume that there seems to be little hope for our characters
at the very end. Brett asks Jake to not get drunk, and for the first time we get to see her change of
attitude towards alcohol especially after she had been drunk the entire time. This shows that a little
part of Brett wants to change, but then she also says, I m going back to Mike...He s so damned nice
and he s so awful. He s my sort of thing. (Hemingway 243), explaining that although she has these
dreams of who she will like to be, she is unable to fulfill them because she in this cycle that has no
escape. Likewise, The Great Gatsby also does a full circle in that by the end of the novel Gatsby ends
up being alone and Daisy runs off with Tom again. To Nick, Gatsby symbolizes hope because his
drive to win back Daisy is admirable during these times when no one seems to care about anything but
money. Ultimately, Gatsby ends

The Skinner s Theory Of Self Awareness, And Moral...
B.F Skinner was one of the most intelligence physiologist and a man who borderline on frightening
traits for a physiologist when it came to creating learning theories, due to his cruelty towards his
experiments and the way he view society structured. Learning theories can be viewed as mental
concepts informing human beings or society, how information is gathered, processed, and how
individuals retained it during learning concepts. Skinner created concepts such as conditioned
behavior, positive reinforcement, and punishments for children who behavior was viewed as
menacing. This term is known as time out for children today, their own version of the Pandora box if
parents choose that path. Moreover, as a radical psychologist among his fellow peers in their field,
Skinner departs from certain beliefs that challenge the notions of self awareness and moral autonomy
of the individual. These particular main philosophies of science are known as dignity and free will.
Skinner main cogent contribution to psychology was his theory that the consequences we suffer in our
human lives, are directly tied to our behavior along with our environment. As a behaviorism who
supports deterministic behaviorism, Skinner view free will as unrealistic theory. To illustrate,
individuals can make their own ideals or choices, whether to act on their desires by going against the
law or not. That does not apply to medically insane or young individuals such as infants or children
who have come to

Work And Workers In The Twenty-First Century Summary
According to Richard W. Judy and Carol D Amico in the article Work and Workers in the Twenty First
Century , Americans are figuring out how to deal with the dramatic changes in the workforce. The
journey to become a productive worker will not be easy to achieve but the hard work Americans put in
will pay off in the long run. There are four forces that explain the dangers and satisfactions that are
ahead for American workers. The four forces to be considered are as follows: technological changes,
globalization, the aging population, and ethnic diversification. All four of these factors play a role in
coping with the changing workforce. American workers seek glittering destinations and many workers
will reach those destinations, but they will experience many dead ends and downfalls along the way.
Workers will receive more comfortable working and living conditions that no one could have dreamed
of in the past. Even though most workers will reach glittering destinations, there will still be workers
who do not; they will suffer from countless downfalls and their standards of living may decline. There
are two qualities that give an unprecedented character to the journey ahead. The ... Show more content

By 2020, approximately 20 percent of the U.S. population will be 65 years or older and employers
have yet to come to grips with this fact. The aging population will affect the workforce through
retirement and those continuing to work. Medicare and Social Security are very likely to undergo
profound changes. Some who reach the age of 65 will not be able to retire due to the fact that they
require outside income. Retired or not, the aging population will contribute heavily to the consumer
market. Their demand for leisure time pursuits and professional services will fuel local labor markets.
This boom in the service sector may replace many low skilled or unskilled jobs. The aging of the
population will be far more dramatic that ethnic

A Story About A Love Story
The typical love story would start with the sun blaring down; rays of sunlight finding their way
through the green leaves with heat prickling his skins like hot needles. It was to be expected, it was
summer after all. The wooden bench was warm under his touch, and he was thankful that it wasn t
made from iron or else, he couldn t sit there and wait. It was already near the end of August yet the
summer heat seemed to be lingering longer than usual. Sweats started dripping down his back and the
thin tank top he was wearing was starting to stick to his skin, making the lad groaned in discomfort.
He was never made for hot weather like these but then again he was neither made for the cold as well.
So the only thing he could do was sighing at the misfortune of his body s toleration with the
temperature of his surroundings. He was about to pull out his phone to check the time for the nth time
when a sudden hand gripped his shoulder, jolting him in the surprise. A low chuckle left from the lips
of the intruder and he could feel the butterflies in his stomach flutter about. Frowning, he turned to his
head to the other. You re late! Tyler whined, pout replacing the former frown. The Black haired
laughed, plopping down on the empty space beside the smaller lad. I m sorry, the lecturer held us back
for a bit to discuss an assignment. His hand reached into his pocket and pull out a chocolate bar,
dangling it in front of Tyler s face. Take it and wipe that ugly look on your face. You

Don t Ask Don t Tell Essay
Justin Cook is a student at Stanton College Preparatory who is currently in the eleventh grade. Cook is
enrolled in an AP Psychology and takes a great interest in connecting the work he does in the class to
the work in his other current classes. In this essay, Cook presents his argument on why homosexuals
should be permitted to serve in the American Armed Forces primarily from a psychological
standpoint. Cook is an active advocate for human rights and the equality of homosexuals. He is also an
active supporter of The Trevor Project which is the only American non profit organization that runs a

It was not until the twelfth century that homosexuality started to be condemned. This condemnation
proved to live through then until now. Due to the fact that America incorporated these early views into
its early laws, even the most bland of today s sex acts were seen as unlawful ( Homosexuality and
Mental Health ). Since then, these laws have changed, however, there is still a primarily negative
connotation on homosexuals when coming from a church or legal standpoint concerning the masses of
America.
This condemnation eventually led to the introduction of the separation of homosexuals from military
service as seen with the neutral blue discharges which were often given to homosexual servicemen
starting in 1916 . This neutral discharge was then labeled general and undesirable , resulting in a less
honorable discharge. Discharges concerning men who were found to be guilty in engaging in
homosexual acts were severely different than those who were neutrally discharged. If this were the
case then you were then dishonorably discharged ( Don t Ask, Don t Tell Wikipedia). The current
policy of Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t Harass, Don t Pursue1, derived from the original 1993
Department of Defense Directive 1332.14 coined Don t Ask, Don t Tell, ensures that any American
citizen can participate in the Armed Forces. This policy is a step up from the usual immediate
discharge, however, this is only if the service member does not identify

Book Of Mormon Analysis
The foundation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints began with just one sacred text.
Being Christian, Mormons believe in the Old and New Testament used by all Christians, but they
believe in the existence of a third lost book of the Bible known as the Book of Mormon. In 1823, an
angel named Moroni appeared to a then seventeen year old Joseph Smith and told him about a set of
golden plates on which there was a lost book of the bible. However, it was not until 1827 that Joseph
was found worthy to retrieve the plates for translation . The plates were written in a text referred to as
reformed Egyptian , and Mormons believe that God himself showed Joseph what the text meant. With

Smith led his followers westward in 1830, stopping in Kirtland, Ohio . Some of the Mormons stayed
to settle down in Kirtland, while others continued on with Joseph Smith to Jackson County, Missouri,
where a second Mormon settlement was established . The two settlements were peaceful from 1831 to
1838 , but soon the Mormons were driven out and forced to continue their search for a home . In the
year 1839, the Mormons purchased a swampy plot of land in Illinois, and by the year 1844 had created

Mormons, for in 1844, the Prophet and founder of the Church, Joseph Smith, was shot while

Mainstreaming Special Needs Children
The Positive Advantages to Mainstreaming Special Needs Children
In an ideal world all children would be born without disabilities. This idea is not possible though and
sometimes children are born with special needs. The child could have only one disability or several. A
disability can be mild and treated with medication or the disability can be severe and the child will
need constant supervision. Once the child becomes of age to attend school, the issue of whether or not
to place the child in a regular classroom or special needs classroom arises. This is when
mainstreaming comes into place. Mainstreaming special needs children into the regular classroom has
been a worldwide controversy; however, there are many advantages to placing these ... Show more

Students who are mainstreamed have to learn to live by the same rules as the other students and this
can help them socially. Researchers have also shown that when the children are included in peer
groups, everyone learns to respect each other s differences, and the results clearly disprove the
concern that disabled students would be outcasts in a regular classroom. By mainstreaming the
children, it should lead to a more tolerant and accepting society overall. Other positive reasons why
special needs children should be in a regular student classroom is because, if they are not isolated they
can achieve better socially and academically. Regular classrooms can help them cope better with the
real world. Being in a regular classroom would also help their self esteem, and it teaches both disabled
and regular students compassion, acceptance, and patience. In 2001 the National Center on
Educational Outcomes surveyed state directors of special education. The directors reported increased
participation rates from the students with disabilities in state assessments. The positive outcomes from
the assessments were increased access to the general curriculum, increased inclusion in accountability
system, more rigorous education, increased participation in state assessments, increased academic
expectations, improved performance on some state assessments, and increased general and special
education networking (Giuliano 34). Some examples of how

The Value Of Philosophy By Bertrand Russell
The essay The Value of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell suggests that many practical people view
philosophy as rather useless, because these people are according to Bertrand Russell operating both
with wrong conceptions about the ends of life and wrong conceptions about what goods philosophy
strives to achieve. According to Russell the value of philosophy is in what it does for the person who
studies it. He makes the point that goods of the mind are as important in life as goods of the body. He
says that the main value of philosophy is that it enlarges one s thoughts, brings one into union with the
not Self , and helps us avoid being caught in narrowness as human beings. His main ideas are that
philosophy is to be studied to enrich our intellects, diminish our dogmatism, and make us citizens of
the universe.
In the essay, Russell presents the study of philosophy as a valuable undertaking, even though it does
not directly help the whole world or increase one s material wealth. The value is to be found for the
student of philosophy herself or himself. This value is primarily found in the intellectual development
that is available for those who undertake the study philosophy. They can escape narrowness,
dogmatism, and narrowness as they become citizens of the world, with enriched intellectual
capacities. Russell concludes with the idea that the mind becomes enlarged through the study of
philosophy.

Chiquita Bananas
Final Case Brief
Problem/Challenge Statement
Chiquita is blamed for the actions of two terrorist organizations that extorted money from the
company. Victims and their families of the attacks performed by these two terrorist organizations are
looking for compensation from Chiquita, claiming that the company is responsible for making those
attacks happen. Chiquita has to make a decision whether or not to take the responsibility for the
actions performed by the two organizations.
Key Facts/Background
FARC and AUC (two Colombian organizations currently designated by the U.S. as terrorist
organizations) purportedly threatened Chiquita s executives to hurt employees in the Colombian plant
if the company failed to provide the payments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reasoning behind this is the belief that the money Chiquita paid was indeed used in hurting those
people. The victims and their families have right to demand justice. The question remains, of who
actually should be brought to justice.
Options Analysis
Based on the current situation (company already admitted to paying the money, internal documents
that the money did provide benefits exceeding the protecting of the employees were unveiled, threat of
lawsuits), Chiquita has couple limited options, which are based on justice and duty.
First option is to come out now and take the responsibility for the actions of FARC and AUC. The law
may not be in place yet, but this decision may show that Chiquita is standing by its promise to protect
people affected by its actions. This option definitely addresses the claims of victims and their families
they will get the compensation they are seeking. Chiquita will face multiple lawsuits and will be
harmed financially, which affects shareholders of the company. In this case the reasoning behind the
payments is brought in place whether it was for corporate gain or protection of employees.
Another option would be to refuse paying compensation to victims of FARC and AUC based on the
fact that Chiquita did nothing directly to harm them. Moreover, they were protecting people by paying
the terrorist. If the law holding the company

Post-Cold War Period Causes of Conflict Essay

hegemony), rather than multipolarism.
From wars between states to wars withinstates
The vast majority of conflicts before and during the Cold War were between states. In the post Cold
War period the number of interstate wars decreased, and new threats occurred, such as ethnic conflicts,
rise of nationalism, global threats to the environment and terrorism. These were dominant factors that

Computer Graphics
Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and, more generally, the representation and
manipulation of image data by a computer. The development of computer graphics has made
computers easier to interact with, and better for understanding and interpreting many types of data.
Developments in computer graphics have had a profound impact on many types of media and have
revolutionized animation, movies and the video game industry.
Overview
The term computer graphics has been used in a broad sense to describe almost everything on
computers that is not text or sound . Typically, the term computer graphics refers to several different
things:

Another example is that Sutherland s software modeled objects not just a picture of objects. In other
words, with a model of a car, one could change the size of the tires without affecting the rest of the
car. It could stretch the body of the car without deforming the tires.
These early computer graphics were vector graphics, composed of thin lines whereas modern day
graphics are Raster based using pixels.
Further 1960s developments
Also in 1961 another student at MIT, Steve Russell, created the first video game, Spacewar. Written
for the DEC PDP 1, Spacewar was an instant success and copies started flowing to other PDP 1
owners and eventually even DEC got a copy. The engineers at DEC used it as a diagnostic program on
every new PDP 1 before shipping it. The sales force picked up on this quickly enough and when
installing new units, would run the world s first video game for their new customers.
E. E. Zajac, a scientist at Bell Telephone Laboratory (BTL), created a film called Simulation of a two
giro gravity attitude control system in 1963.[5] In this computer generated film, Zajac showed how the
attitude of a satellite could be altered as it orbits the Earth. He created the animation on an IBM 7090
mainframe computer. Also at BTL, Ken Knowlton, Frank Sindon and Michael Noll started working in
the computer graphics field. Sindon created a film called Force, Mass and Motion illustrating Newton

Mace Lorrison s Life-Personal Narrative
I was jolted awake to find myself bound to a tree, wet and shivering in the cold. As I freed myself, I
tried to recall the night before. It had been a very foggy and rainy night as I was going to investigate a
suspected drug gang. Being the overachieving detective I was, I decided to cut through a dark, musty
forest to see if I could find clues for a case my colleague was trying to crack. As I walked into the
forest, something made a spine chilling cackle, and I stopped. My heart began to beat quickly, and I
put my hand in my bag to reach my pistol. Just when I had wrapped my hand around the grip,
something tall and pudgy came hurtling towards me, and everything went black. When I finally freed
myself from the rope, I began to think of possible suspects. Could it ... Show more content on

Being thirty now, I had no idea what he was doing with his life. Failing school, partying and drinking
every night apparently weren t the only things he was doing. It was my duty as a detective to turn in
all criminals to the police even if it meant turning in my only sibling. I bent down to pick up the
machete and the rope and arranged the evidence carefully in my bag. I then made my way back out the
forest, but I was too slow, for Mace and his friends greeted me at the main path. I see you were trying
to turn me in . . . but I ve changed, Ariel, unlike you, sneered Mace coldly. No, Mace, I can help you.
Trust me. Please, I begged. All of my life, I have been shadowed by your achievements. You were

John Smith Critique
In the wealth of nations Smith makes numerous bold claims, these suggestions need to be scrutinised
and weighed up, the following paragraphs will now put his hypothesis under the torch light. Smith
does have some legitimate points however, there also many that have holes in his claims too, in
reality; his idealistic theory of free market is not as advantageous he contends, in fact, the free market
has many disadvantages to it. Smith was quite clearly, a fierce critic of mercantilism and some of his
criticisms do appear to be valid. Smith argument can be demonstrated via Tariffs as they do interfere
with the price system and of course costs for the consumer increases; such a system only benefited the

Corn was not another commodity like most in the times, as it was necessary for guaranteeing the
subsistence of the population. The demand and need for corn was massive, it was unlikely for the
demand of corn to really diminish. It should and would be seen as morally questionable, to make corn
a full commodity. In the modern society, corn may be not as much of a commodity as it was back then
but there still plenty of goods and services that can be considered committed such as free healthcare,
educations water, energy and so forth. Isaiah berlin s idea of positive liberty is the basis of this concept
that essentially, the state needs to create a society where it is for an individual to rise and progress
however certain industries are needed to ensure. Put in the simplest terms, one might say that a
democratic society is a free society because it is a self determined society, and that a member of that
society is free to the extent that he or she participates in its democratic process. But there are also
individualist applications of the concept of positive freedom. For example, it is sometimes said that a
government should aim actively to create the conditions necessary for individuals to be self sufficient
or to achieve self realization . A without public education and healthcare, many would not not be able

The Marketing Strategy Of Marco Gianni Shoes Essay
In Marco Gianni Shoes case, basically, the owners did not have any marketing strategy. Because in
order to create a marketing strategy, there are four necessary aspects that must be considered.
First of all, the operators must be aware of their target market and what kind of product they intend to
provide to their target customers. And the next step is to make a decision about what kind of
relationship do the operators intend to form with their customers or suppliers. Thirdly, in order to
create this strategy, what level of investment is required and how will the operators allocate and locate
the required resources. Finally the operators must have detailed objectives and action plans (David,
2015a).
It is clear that the operators of Marco Gianni Shoes did not consider all of these four aspects.
Marco Gianni Shoes opened in a fashion center of Auckland, it is a fantastic location, plenty of
customers passing by their store every day. But the owners Leo and Josth really messed up with their
market positioning. They never considered what customer segmentation they are going to focus. And
they did not think about what are the appropriate products for this customer segmentation. So the shop
was made by an Italian designed images, low price shoes that are coming from Chinese manufacture
and a very horrible indoor decoration which does not fit the high street environment.

Suspense In The Tell-Tale Heart And The Monkey s Paw
Two feet from the door, the dog froze, stopping mid step. With these words the reader begins to get a

can cause suspense in a story. In the stories Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and The Monkey s
Paw by William Wymark Jacobs, suspense is created through cause and effect relationships where
details such as repetition, unclear explanations, twisted dialogue, and dark undertones cause the reader
to feel suspense.

The Tell Tale Heart tells the story through the words of the madman, who killed a man to rid himself
of his eyes. After completing the deed, the madman confessed to the police who came to investigate a

Tale Heart is created through repetition and twisted dialogue, where the narrator repeats phrases to
warn the reader of a decision or event before it happens, and poorly disguises intents in a way that lets
the reader distrust the sanity of the speaker. For example, Poe repeats this phrase from page 92 It was

As shown before in the story, it was followed by uncontrollable rage that the reader cannot help but
predict and fear. This repetition of events causes suspense by linking the future event with a past one.
This distrust of proposed sanity and outcomes by the reader is another challenging but well scripted
way of creating suspense in a

book building up to this fantasy of a dramatic and passionate reunion between Margo and Q and then
the reader is met with a yelling match instead. The novel s version of this scene makes for a more
intense and unexpected climax than the film s. Theme is another factor in this debate. The novel and
the movie have very similar, yet very different ways of portraying the theme. The main theme in Paper
Towns, don t idolize people, speaks of the way Quentin and many others regarded Margo all her life,
as a miracle. After Q goes on his journey to find her he learns a lot more about her including that The

The Queen Of England During The Tudor Dynasty
Queen Elizabeth I, wrote one of the most famous and inspiring speeches of all times. Elizabeth I was
the queen of England during the Tudor Dynasty. Tudor period was a time of England s introduction to
Renaissance culture. Humanism became the most important force in Tudor literary and life. Elizabeth
I was not only the most feared queen at the time, she was also a writer. She wrote Speech to the
Troops at Tillbury (1588), which was written for the British troops stationed at Tilbury in 1588 as they
waited for the Spanish to invade. Literary during the Tudor period had an overly ornate meaning with
hidden messages. Speech to the Troops at Tillbury, was definitely an ornate speech, an example was
the famous quote, I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and
stomach of a king, and of a king of England too (1588) Elizabeth I, knew in reality she could not lead
her troops into battle but she wished she could. The people of England had great respect for her and
she had respect for the people. Therefore making Queen Elizabeth I and her speech one of the most
successful Tudor speeches in history. Humanism had a massive impact to Tudor literary. Humanists
searched for wisdom achieved by ancient Greece and Rome. Aristotle s who was a well known Greek

Essay on To Be of Use by Marge Piercy
Marge Piercy s poem To Be of Use expresses an opposing connotation about the idea of work. Most
people believe the words hard work carry a negative connotation. What these words imply is not
something that is generally received with enthusiasm but is often accepted either by force or
obligation. The poem s central theme is that satisfaction and self fulfillment can be attained by using
one s skills to serve a specific function in life, for it is the opinion of the speaker that an unproductive
existence has no value or significance because it is vain, and pointless. Piercy uses figurative
language, imagery, description, symbolism, and details to develop this theme throughout the poem.

When the narrator describes that they Strain in the mud and muck to move things forward (10), the
words mud and muck become symbols of the obstacles and unfavorable conditions that the speaker s

effort and determination, they persist and accomplish their goals. In addition, the speaker tells that he

a detail that puts emphasis on the traits of reliability and dependability that characterize the
responsible attitude that the people the speaker admires take toward hard labor. Hence, in the first two

The History of Childresn Literature Essay
The History of Children s Literature EDP1: Task 1 Janet Blake Western Governors University
Children s literature is defined many different ways. It can be simply defined as a book that a child
reads, or as Kiefer defined it as the imaginative shaping of life and thought into the forms and
structures of language. (Kiefer, 2010, p.5) Literature has been around for hundreds of years, although
not in the form that we are used to seeing now. There have always been stories to be told for as long as
one can remember. Before the days of bound books and magazines, there were stories that were told
by people in the village around the campfires, or the bards and traveling entertainers telling stories to

Because of this, many children were unable to read and were not provided with a formal education.
They were provided with the education that was needed to survive everyday life and the education of
religious beliefs. Books at this time cost too much for the common family to own, and were very rare
at this time in history. In 1476 William Claxton was credited with learning the printing trade and
taking it back to England with him and setting up a printing press at Westminster. From there he
published 106 books of various genres. The books were put together with excellence, but were very
costly, because of this they were owned mainly by the wealthy. (Kiefer, 2010, p.69) It is visible at this
point to see how valuable the printing press really was. Due to the high expense that books were in
this time, many did not own books because they could not afford them. Others would trade their
valuable land or property to own a single book. The fifteenth through the sixteenth centuries brought
more to children s literature. Children made a progression from hornbooks, to ABC books and
primers, to the small

Napalm Vietnam War
This is about the Vietnam War; Weapons used such as chemicals, areas of the war, the effects of it, and
why it happened. There was a variety of chemical weapons used during the Vietnam War. One was
Napalm. Napalm was used extensively by the U.S. Napalm was first used in flamethrowers for U.S.
ground troops; they burned down sections of forest and bushes in hopes of eliminating any enemy
guerrilla fighters. Later on in the war B 52 Bombers began dropping napalm bombs and other
incendiary explosives. They created an aluminum soap mixed with naphthenic acid from crude oil and
palmitic acid from coconut oil. The new agent, when combined with gasoline, made for a cheap,
brutally effective weapon; Napalm. Another chemical used during the Vietnam ... Show more content

It s natural that a historical film would include period specific songs, music played an outsized role in
the Vietnam War era. Whereas during past wars, musicians wrote songs to unite Americans, Vietnam
era music spoke to the growing numbers of disillusioned citizens, and brought attention to the cultural
fissures that were beginning to emerge. Young people embraced swing music for what historians
David Stowe and Lewis Erenberg describe as the genre s democratic ethos; the way Americans of
different races and ethnicities enjoyed a new kind of sound with an upbeat tempo and new dance
moves such as the Lindy Hop. Music started bringing the people together on both sides of the war.
Music also filled a void in the country s media landscape. Hollywood didn t release films that probed
the complex nature of the Vietnam War until years after the fall of Saigon. While television news
broadcasting became more critical after the Tet Offensive, the big networks were hesitant to promote
entertainers who were vocally opposed to the war. Popular programs would censor artists who planned
to perform protest music. People would use music and music lyrics to do protests against the war. Lots
of artwork was made during this time, many artwork was about the Vietnam War in some way. Other
artwork was about nations coming together and civilians coming together as a nation. Fashion during
the Vietnam War. Women in the 1960s usually worn bell bottom pants, decorated felt poodle skirts,
and blue jeans, inspired by James Dean, became fairly popular. They were often worn with collared
army style jackets. Accompanied by pointed toe stiletto heels, blue suede loafers, and saddle shoes.
And hair styled in a ponytail for girls and a crew cut or flat top for boys. Due to the involvement of the
French in the Vietnam War, French fashion became well known in the United States. Men s fashion
was inspired by the uniforms worn my soldiers fighting in

Economic Impact On The Company
Economic Impact:
Often in cases of bid rigging the amount of money that the company loses is often significantly higher
than the if the contract had be awarded to other firms. Given the number and costs of the change
orders involved with this case, led to the final construction costs being almost $82,000 over the
average of all bids from other construction firms, resulting in TBB losing a great deal of money for the
quality of the work performed.
Of this $82,000, $62,893 was withdrawn by Larkin Construction in the form of cash. A reasonable
assumption with this money is that it was dispersed to parties involved in the bid rigging scheme.
Cash would be used (as opposed to ACH transfers) to conceal who benefitted from the bid rigging
scheme. These payouts ultimately are what increased the total construction costs, as the increased
costs are to cover kickbacks to those involved in the scheme.
Misstating Financial Statements Overstating
Revenue through accounts receivable
Perpetrators and Pressure:
There are some obvious inconsistences between what the accounts receivable being reported was and
what our audit team calculated. The perpetrators of this fraud was a combination between Phil Ackers
(President) and Julie Roper (Assistant to the President). During our interview, Phil stated that he
pushed Julie to sell more group tickets for the season. This was apparent that Julie did apparently sell
more group tickets; however, once our audit team started looking into the group

Examples Of Ethical Dilemma In Nursing
As nurses, it is inevitable that at one point or another in our careers we will come across ethical
dilemmas when providing patient care. In fact, nursing has been labeled as the most ethical profession.
For nurses to meet the ethical obligations of the profession, the American Nurses Association (ANA)
developed the Code of Ethics for Nurses. Since ethics are fundamental to nursing practice, I believe
this code is of utmost importance. Patients strongly depend on a nurse s honesty and on their
adherence to those standards. By adhering to those standards, it allows nurses to develop a trustful
nurse client relationship while displaying compassion and empathy. Although these standards are put
in place for nurses, when faced with an ethical dilemma, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This patient had suffered an intraventricular hemorrhagic stroke. Since this patient lived alone, she
was found by her son unconscious; however, it was unknown how long she had been unconscious.
When she arrived at the hospital, she was a GCS of three and had not improved since then. Three
weeks later, when I returned to neuro ICU I again cared for this patient and her status had remained
unchanged. Therefore, an ethics consult was made with the family to recommend comfort care.
However, since the patient had undergone an ischemic stroke a few years back and fully recovered,
the family had hope the patient would fully recover again. Although, it was explained that the strokes
were different and the amount of damage to the brain was irreversible they still were not accepting the
reality of the patient s condition. These situations are difficult since the patient s family is in denial,
but you must respect their decision and continue to provide care for the patient (What do I do now?
Ethical dilemmas in nursing and health care, 2013). Overall, whatever ethical dilemma you may
encounter as a nurse, it is important that you continue to provide the best possible care despite your

Family And Medical Leave Act Case Study
Situation A:
With regards to the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), Company X is in full
compliance. The FMLA clearly states that if an employee of a company that has been with a company
for more than 12 months, they are entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave every 12 months
for qualifying events. Qualifying events would be considered as, but not limited to, child birth, serious
medical injury or the placement of a child into adoption or foster care. There is a secondary provision
in place that would allow you to take 26 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave for the care of a covered
service member for serious injury or illness. In all instances of the FMLA, your job is protected, there
are no federal guidelines to dictate your employer is responsible for covering lost wages during this
period of leave. Your employer is only responsible for retuning you to your previous or similar
position at the same rate of pay that you were receiving when you started your leave.

Determining Your Writing Style
It may come as a surprise to many, but writing is no longer about the writer and is solely about the
reader. When writing anything, whether it be a press release, a newspaper article, or even an
informative essay, the only person that should be considered is the one that is going to read and draw
conclusions from the writing. The ultimate point of one s writing is to benefit one s reader through
understanding them, writing clearly and concisely, refusing to use methods that mislead them, and
refusing to present information that has no basis of truth.
There are many ways to strengthen one s writing. The best way for writers to optimize their writing is
through understanding their audience. In the essay Determining Your Writing Style (n.d.), ... Show

Methods of propaganda and doublespeak mislead the reader so they can no longer form educated
opinions about the topic. Audiences are expected to be critical and to know how to challenge and to
question, how to make distinctions between propaganda and reasonable argument (Cross, 1977, p.
150). This expectation is unreasonable because it is the writer s responsibility to not use misleading
methods and to voice his or her opinion without using subtle techniques of persuasion. Writers should,
therefore, avoid using any techniques of propaganda, such as name calling, glittering generalities,
argumentum ad populum, transfer, card stacking, or any of the other numerous ways to persuade
people without their consent. Doublespeak is another technique that should be avoided by all writers.
Doublespeak, as defined in the essay The World of Doublespeak by William Lutz (1989), is language
which pretends to communicate but doesn t, language which makes the unpleasant attractive, or at
least tolerable , and through doing this, it conceals and prevents one s actual thoughts (p. 178).
Doublespeak shrouds and averts thought and should be avoided by all writers. Not only is a writer
who uses doublespeak concerned with distracting the reader for his or her personal gain, but it also
does not consider

  • 2. Abuse Of Animal Abuse Did you know about 10 million animals get abused and neglected every year? Circuses and Zoos are prime examples of animal abuse and neglect. Animals like tigers, elephants, dolphins, and whales should be in their natural habitat. These animals shouldn t be in small rusty cages, and crowded pools. There are also people who illegally fight animals for money; i.e. Dog fighting, cock fighting, etc. These animals fight for their lives, but the owners don t care about whether or not they die, they just want money. Animals should not be used for our entertainment. Animals are not given the choice of going into the entertainment world. People gamble on dog fighting, cock fighting, etc. Wild cats and elephants in circuses endure abuse and neglect to be taught how to jump through hoops of fire. SeaWorld neglects their animals once they get sick, and these animals are given merely any space. Animal fighting is illegal in all 50 states in the U.S. and in district Of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Yet animal fighting happens almost every day. Most of the animals that fight are dogs, cocks, or hogs. Dog owners like to train their dogs how to be aggressive. They chain their dog outside out of reach from other animals and people. The dogs are given basic veterinary care and nutrition because the owners care about winning, not about the dogs themselves. Some fighting dogs get steroids to enhance their muscles and increase their aggressiveness. These dogs also get legal and illegal drugs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bob Fosse s Dance The music changes now as the musicians start to play a march. The dancers then remove the flower from their hats pull their hats down low to resemble a soldiers headwear. In addition, they turn their canes upside down holding them as if they were guns and start marching off stage. Simultaneously, the lights turn dark blue on stage and the dancers faces turn serious. Their once extravagant and lighthearted movement is now stiff and somewhat serious. The audience however, laughs at this shift in theme. All the dancers march off stage except the center girl, she continues to march in a circle making faces and poking fun at the others. Finally, she leaves the stage laughing loudly and dramatically at herself. She comes on one more time only to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those created by John Tiller and the other created by Laurence Tiller. Elswit explains that even though the groups were led by different people they both wanted to produce the same outcome, unison. The signature synchronization became a potent image of Weimar visual culture (Elswit, 51). Fosse s choreography was primarily based on the principle of unison within this piece. Elswit argues that the group was created as a way of responding to the industrialization of America. The girls were often mistaken for being an American group because of this aspect. As a result the choreographic elements were inspired by the creation of factories. Fosse s choreography was inspired by these events as he adhered strict machine like formations of dancers within the piece. Each formation was linear and showed order. Elswit also says that the use of the term Girls to refer to female dancers (Elswit, 52), was also selected in order to exaggerate the rise of mass produced products for them to buy (Elswit, 52). • 4. Slavery and The Tropicalia Movement in Brazil Starting in 1538, nearly four million Africans were taken from Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Congo and Mozambique to be forced into slavery in Brazil s sugar plantations and mining industries. The slave trade was eradicated in 1850, and by 1871 the Brazilian legislature passed the Law of the Free Womb. This law was designed to grant freedom to slave s newborn children and served as a precursor to the abolition of slavery in 1888. They made home for themselves in Brazil, as it had the largest amount of African diaspora. Former slaves and their descendants established an Afro Brazilian culture and the cultural traditions, notably musical, brought along with them inevitably mingled with those of Brazil. They brought new rhythmic complexities and melodic patterns with them, and were recognized for using music as way of bringing people together through communal participation. Their musical traditions have maintained very well preserved and were legitimate contributions to Brazil s culture. Afro Brazilian influences became fundamental components for a new generation of musicians in Brazil, and pride in their African roots flourished for the first time. On a typical evening in Brazil, an overabundance of vibrant rhythms and people on every corner are embellished in eccentric fashion filled the streets. Percussion beats, bells, trumpets, whistles and other instruments sound through the streets as people dance or play along. Music is a defining factor of identity in Brazilian culture. ... • 5. All Art, Including Music, Is Directly Influenced By The All art, including music, is directly influenced by the environment in which the artist lives. It is impossible to create art in a vacuum, unaffected by the society and events surrounding you. The time period, location, and social changes and innovations can have a direct effect on the art produced. Political events, especially wars, can have a strong influence on the music and art produced at that time. For example, music may become more patriotic during a time of war as the composers strive to publicize their national pride. I will explore this idea through the composer Igor Stravinsky and his three most famous ballets in terms of music and choreography. Since I have a retrospective perspective, I will be able to analyze the situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His wide range of locations creates an expansive social and political influence on his works and their choreography. Similar to many famous composers, Stravinsky did not study music from the time he was a small child, but studied law and philosophy at St Petersburg University (Taruskin, White). Throughout the course of his life, Stravinsky composed almost 100 works, ranging in genres. He began to be commissioned by the Ballet Russes in 1909 and by the following year was asked by Serge Diaghilev to produce The Firebird (Taruskin, White). The Ballet Russes was a Paris ballet company run by Serge Diaghilev that was known for its creative and inventive performances. Many people did not like the Ballet Russes innovative style and chose to watch classic ballet companies instead in order to continue the classical style that many believed ballet should express. However, Diaghilev was determined to do something unique with his ballet company and they made their performances extremely modern (Lockspeiser). The Firebird was the work that set Stravinsky s career on fire, and allowed his name to become spoken with respect and fame. It premiered at the Paris Opera on June 25, 1910. It may have been fate that this commission was offered to Stravinsky because it is said that the Ballet Russes originally commissioned another composer for this piece, but that his slow progress forced them to offer it to ... • 6. Multiculturalism Has Had a Rough Start Obama once said that a multicultural society shows strong economy and a strong country. But is it true? What about those who cannot integrate? What about all those people who look down at the immigrants and always blame them for the bad things there happening? And is it a strong society if it cannot provide its citizens? In Denmark we are having a hard time accepting our immigrants. We blame them for almost everything. But it is not our immigrants in general; it is primarily those from the Middle East. If the immigrants come from Sweden, France, England and so on, we have no problems with them. We do not blame them for those things there going bad, but why? Is it because of the cultural differences, or is it just easier to blame the Arabs after 9/11? In the UK and the US they have more success by integrating the immigrants, but they do as well experience the same problems with the immigration of Arabs. I believe that it is a result of the huge media covering of the terror situation in the world. And as long as the media are exhibiting people from the Middle East as terrorists there will be a general negative opinion about the Arab people, and therefore the accepting of the people from Arabian will be difficult. The problem with the immigrants is the missing integration of them in the society. But the Danes cannot be blamed for this, because the immigrants are trans national. What I mean by that is very simple: the immigrants care more for the countries they escaped and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Psychodynamic Theory During The s Dr. Paul Weston In Treatment s Dr. Paul Weston appears to largely use psychodynamic theory during his sessions with Sophie, the teenaged gymnast who is seeing him after an accident which is believed to have been a potential suicide attempt. However, as is the case with most therapists, Paul does not focus solely on psychodynamics when treating Sophie, drawing on the universal qualities of all therapists as well as some cognitive techniques. There are several instances of this unique blend of techniques throughout Sophie s episodes, as well as the continual theme of psychodynamics that seems to be Paul s main practicing theory. While the claim itself is important for creating a sort of holding environment within the therapy room, it is also more likely to be effective if it is actually practiced and backed by actions which Paul does. While those are some of the more universal aspects of both therapy and the nature of the therapist that Paul recreates with Sophie, there are also some theoretical perspective specificities that come through their sessions. While it doesn t play a major role and only truly appears during their later sessions, there are instances where Pau employs some cognitive therapy techniques to try and help Sophie. The key feature of cognitive therapy is that it is our general thoughts or schemas that shape how we interpret and perceive the world around us and that it is those thoughts and interpretation that produce our emotional and behavior reactions to situations and events, not the situation itself. Similarities Between The Sun Also Rises And The Great Gatsby The American Dream is something that we as a working class are encouraged to strive for because it is viewed as the epitome of being successful. Happening during WWI, the Roaring 20 s became infamous for its lavish lifestyles and careless ways due to the ongoing war. B.F Skinner was one of the most intelligence physiologist and a man who borderline on frightening traits for a physiologist when it came to creating learning theories, due to his cruelty towards his experiments and the way he view society structured. Learning theories can be viewed as mental concepts informing human beings or society, how information is gathered, processed, and how individuals retained it during learning concepts. Skinner created concepts such as conditioned behavior, positive reinforcement, and punishments for children who behavior was viewed as menacing. This term is known as time out for children today, their own version of the Pandora box if parents choose that path. Moreover, as a radical psychologist among his fellow peers in their field, Skinner departs from certain beliefs that challenge the notions of self awareness and moral autonomy of the individual. These particular main philosophies of science are known as dignity and free will. Skinner main cogent contribution to psychology was his theory that the consequences we suffer in our human lives, are directly tied to our behavior along with our environment. As a behaviorism who supports deterministic behaviorism, Skinner view free will as unrealistic theory. To illustrate, individuals can make their own ideals or choices, whether to act on their desires by going against the law or not. Judy and Carol D Amico in the article Work and Workers in the Twenty First Century , Americans are figuring out how to deal with the dramatic changes in the workforce. The journey to become a productive worker will not be easy to achieve but the hard work Americans put in will pay off in the long run. There are four forces that explain the dangers and satisfactions that are ahead for American workers. The four forces to be considered are as follows: technological changes, globalization, the aging population, and ethnic diversification. All four of these factors play a role in coping with the changing workforce. American workers seek glittering destinations and many workers will reach those destinations, but they will experience many dead ends and downfalls along the way. Workers will receive more comfortable working and living conditions that no one could have dreamed of in the past. Even though most workers will reach glittering destinations, there will still be workers who do not; they will suffer from countless downfalls and their standards of living may decline. • 11. A Story About A Love Story The typical love story would start with the sun blaring down; rays of sunlight finding their way through the green leaves with heat prickling his skins like hot needles. It was to be expected, it was summer after all. The wooden bench was warm under his touch, and he was thankful that it wasn t made from iron or else, he couldn t sit there and wait. It was already near the end of August yet the summer heat seemed to be lingering longer than usual. Sweats started dripping down his back and the thin tank top he was wearing was starting to stick to his skin, making the lad groaned in discomfort. He was never made for hot weather like these but then again he was neither made for the cold as well. So the only thing he could do was sighing at the misfortune of his body s toleration with the temperature of his surroundings. He was about to pull out his phone to check the time for the nth time when a sudden hand gripped his shoulder, jolting him in the surprise. A low chuckle left from the lips of the intruder and he could feel the butterflies in his stomach flutter about. Frowning, he turned to his head to the other. You re late! Tyler whined, pout replacing the former frown. The Black haired laughed, plopping down on the empty space beside the smaller lad. This condemnation proved to live through then until now. Due to the fact that America incorporated these early views into its early laws, even the most bland of today s sex acts were seen as unlawful ( Homosexuality and Mental Health ). Since then, these laws have changed, however, there is still a primarily negative connotation on homosexuals when coming from a church or legal standpoint concerning the masses of America. This condemnation eventually led to the introduction of the separation of homosexuals from military service as seen with the neutral blue discharges which were often given to homosexual servicemen starting in 1916 . This neutral discharge was then labeled general and undesirable , resulting in a less honorable discharge. Discharges concerning men who were found to be guilty in engaging in homosexual acts were severely different than those who were neutrally discharged. If this were the case then you were then dishonorably discharged ( Don t Ask, Don t Tell Wikipedia). The current policy of Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t Harass, Don t Pursue1, derived from the original 1993 Department of Defense Directive 1332.14 coined Don t Ask, Don t Tell, ensures that any American citizen can participate in the Armed Forces. Once the child becomes of age to attend school, the issue of whether or not to place the child in a regular classroom or special needs classroom arises. This is when mainstreaming comes into place. Researchers have also shown that when the children are included in peer groups, everyone learns to respect each other s differences, and the results clearly disprove the concern that disabled students would be outcasts in a regular classroom. By mainstreaming the children, it should lead to a more tolerant and accepting society overall. Other positive reasons why special needs children should be in a regular student classroom is because, if they are not isolated they can achieve better socially and academically. Regular classrooms can help them cope better with the real world. Being in a regular classroom would also help their self esteem, and it teaches both disabled and regular students compassion, acceptance, and patience. • 18. The Value Of Philosophy By Bertrand Russell The essay The Value of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell suggests that many practical people view philosophy as rather useless, because these people are according to Bertrand Russell operating both with wrong conceptions about the ends of life and wrong conceptions about what goods philosophy strives to achieve. According to Russell the value of philosophy is in what it does for the person who studies it. He makes the point that goods of the mind are as important in life as goods of the body. He says that the main value of philosophy is that it enlarges one s thoughts, brings one into union with the not Self , and helps us avoid being caught in narrowness as human beings. His main ideas are that philosophy is to be studied to enrich our intellects, diminish our dogmatism, and make us citizens of the universe. In the essay, Russell presents the study of philosophy as a valuable undertaking, even though it does not directly help the whole world or increase one s material wealth. The value is to be found for the student of philosophy herself or himself. This value is primarily found in the intellectual development that is available for those who undertake the study philosophy. They can escape narrowness, dogmatism, and narrowness as they become citizens of the world, with enriched intellectual capacities. Russell concludes with the idea that the mind becomes enlarged through the study of philosophy. [PLEASE NOTE!: I have not put much commentary on the quotes here, but ... Key Facts/Background FARC and AUC (two Colombian organizations currently designated by the U.S. as terrorist organizations) purportedly threatened Chiquita s executives to hurt employees in the Colombian plant if the company failed to provide the payments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reasoning behind this is the belief that the money Chiquita paid was indeed used in hurting those people. The victims and their families have right to demand justice. The question remains, of who actually should be brought to justice. Options Analysis Based on the current situation (company already admitted to paying the money, internal documents that the money did provide benefits exceeding the protecting of the employees were unveiled, threat of lawsuits), Chiquita has couple limited options, which are based on justice and duty. First option is to come out now and take the responsibility for the actions of FARC and AUC. The law may not be in place yet, but this decision may show that Chiquita is standing by its promise to protect people affected by its actions. This option definitely addresses the claims of victims and their families they will get the compensation they are seeking. Chiquita will face multiple lawsuits and will be harmed financially, which affects shareholders of the company. In this case the reasoning behind the payments is brought in place whether it was for corporate gain or protection of employees. Another option would be to refuse paying compensation to victims of FARC and AUC based on the fact that Chiquita did nothing directly to harm them. Moreover, they were protecting people by paying the terrorist. If the law holding the company ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Snow (1991, p.44) states that [i]n simpler days during Cold War, possession of nuclear weapons was thought to provide the possessors with the special power, that could be translated into usable influence in the international system . This means that some conflicts were kept under control because the world was ruled by bipolar system (USA and Soviet Union). However, conflicts were not absent during this period, but the parties in a conflict would often seek assistance from one of the superpowers and hence strengthen the conception of a bipolar world (e.g. the Vietnam War). With the end of the Cold War this system transformed into a multipolar system where new conflicts emerged. As Mearsheimer states, key elements in the Long Peace was bipolarity, an equal balance of military power and nuclear weapons. (Mearsheimer 1990, Why We Will Soon Miss The Cold War ). This factor was now no longer present, although some scholars argue that this era is characterised by unipolarism (i.e. US hegemony), rather than multipolarism. Being the overachieving detective I was, I decided to cut through a dark, musty forest to see if I could find clues for a case my colleague was trying to crack. And the next step is to make a decision about what kind of relationship do the operators intend to form with their customers or suppliers. Thirdly, in order to create this strategy, what level of investment is required and how will the operators allocate and locate the required resources. • 39. The History of Childresn Literature Essay The History of Children s Literature EDP1: Task 1 Janet Blake Western Governors University Children s literature is defined many different ways. It can be simply defined as a book that a child reads, or as Kiefer defined it as the imaginative shaping of life and thought into the forms and structures of language. (Kiefer, 2010, p.5) Literature has been around for hundreds of years, although not in the form that we are used to seeing now. There have always been stories to be told for as long as one can remember. Before the days of bound books and magazines, there were stories that were told by people in the village around the campfires, or the bards and traveling entertainers telling stories to the court in the castles. This form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Kiefer, 2010, p.66) In the Middle Ages, children were treated as an adult in the family. Children went out to work just as the parents did to help provide for the good of the family and to provide for the family s needs, whether it was economically or material based. The prosperity of the family came first. Because of this, many children were unable to read and were not provided with a formal education. They were provided with the education that was needed to survive everyday life and the education of religious beliefs. Books at this time cost too much for the common family to own, and were very rare at this time in history. In 1476 William Claxton was credited with learning the printing trade and taking it back to England with him and setting up a printing press at Westminster. From there he published 106 books of various genres. The books were put together with excellence, but were very costly, because of this they were owned mainly by the wealthy. (Kiefer, 2010, p.69) It is visible at this point to see how valuable the printing press really was. Due to the high expense that books were in this time, many did not own books because they could not afford them. Others would trade their valuable land or property to own a single book. The fifteenth through the sixteenth centuries brought more to children s literature. Children made a progression from hornbooks, to ABC books and primers, to the small ... There was a variety of chemical weapons used during the Vietnam War. One was Napalm. Napalm was used extensively by the U.S. Napalm was first used in flamethrowers for U.S. ground troops; they burned down sections of forest and bushes in hopes of eliminating any enemy guerrilla fighters. Later on in the war B 52 Bombers began dropping napalm bombs and other incendiary explosives. It s natural that a historical film would include period specific songs, music played an outsized role in the Vietnam War era. Whereas during past wars, musicians wrote songs to unite Americans, Vietnam era music spoke to the growing numbers of disillusioned citizens, and brought attention to the cultural fissures that were beginning to emerge. Young people embraced swing music for what historians David Stowe and Lewis Erenberg describe as the genre s democratic ethos; the way Americans of different races and ethnicities enjoyed a new kind of sound with an upbeat tempo and new dance moves such as the Lindy Hop. Music started bringing the people together on both sides of the war. Music also filled a void in the country s media landscape. Hollywood didn t release films that probed the complex nature of the Vietnam War until years after the fall of Saigon. While television news broadcasting became more critical after the Tet Offensive, the big networks were hesitant to promote entertainers who were vocally opposed to the war. Popular programs would censor artists who planned to perform protest music. People would use music and music lyrics to do protests against the war. Lots of artwork was made during this time, many artwork was about the Vietnam War in some way. Other artwork was about nations coming together and civilians coming together as a nation. Fashion during the Vietnam War. Women in the 1960s usually worn bell bottom pants, decorated felt poodle skirts, and blue jeans, inspired by James Dean, became fairly popular. They were often worn with collared army style jackets. Accompanied by pointed toe stiletto heels, blue suede loafers, and saddle shoes. And hair styled in a ponytail for girls and a crew cut or flat top for boys. Due to the involvement of the French in the Vietnam War, French fashion became well known in the United States. • 42. Economic Impact On The Company Economic Impact: Often in cases of bid rigging the amount of money that the company loses is often significantly higher than the if the contract had be awarded to other firms. Given the number and costs of the change orders involved with this case, led to the final construction costs being almost $82,000 over the average of all bids from other construction firms, resulting in TBB losing a great deal of money for the quality of the work performed. Of this $82,000, $62,893 was withdrawn by Larkin Construction in the form of cash. A reasonable assumption with this money is that it was dispersed to parties involved in the bid rigging scheme. Cash would be used (as opposed to ACH transfers) to conceal who benefitted from the bid rigging scheme. These payouts ultimately are what increased the total construction costs, as the increased costs are to cover kickbacks to those involved in the scheme. Misstating Financial Statements Overstating Revenue through accounts receivable Perpetrators and Pressure: There are some obvious inconsistences between what the accounts receivable being reported was and what our audit team calculated. The perpetrators of this fraud was a combination between Phil Ackers (President) and Julie Roper (Assistant to the President). During our interview, Phil stated that he pushed Julie to sell more group tickets for the season. This was apparent that Julie did apparently sell more group tickets; however, once our audit team started looking into the group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Examples Of Ethical Dilemma In Nursing As nurses, it is inevitable that at one point or another in our careers we will come across ethical dilemmas when providing patient care. In fact, nursing has been labeled as the most ethical profession. For nurses to meet the ethical obligations of the profession, the American Nurses Association (ANA) developed the Code of Ethics for Nurses. Since ethics are fundamental to nursing practice, I believe this code is of utmost importance. Patients strongly depend on a nurse s honesty and on their adherence to those standards. By adhering to those standards, it allows nurses to develop a trustful nurse client relationship while displaying compassion and empathy. Although these standards are put in place for nurses, when faced with an ethical dilemma, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This patient had suffered an intraventricular hemorrhagic stroke. Since this patient lived alone, she was found by her son unconscious; however, it was unknown how long she had been unconscious. When she arrived at the hospital, she was a GCS of three and had not improved since then. Three weeks later, when I returned to neuro ICU I again cared for this patient and her status had remained unchanged. Therefore, an ethics consult was made with the family to recommend comfort care. However, since the patient had undergone an ischemic stroke a few years back and fully recovered, the family had hope the patient would fully recover again. Although, it was explained that the strokes were different and the amount of damage to the brain was irreversible they still were not accepting the reality of the patient s condition. These situations are difficult since the patient s family is in denial, but you must respect their decision and continue to provide care for the patient (What do I do now? Ethical dilemmas in nursing and health care, 2013). • 46. Determining Your Writing Style It may come as a surprise to many, but writing is no longer about the writer and is solely about the reader. When writing anything, whether it be a press release, a newspaper article, or even an informative essay, the only person that should be considered is the one that is going to read and draw conclusions from the writing. The ultimate point of one s writing is to benefit one s reader through understanding them, writing clearly and concisely, refusing to use methods that mislead them, and refusing to present information that has no basis of truth. There are many ways to strengthen one s writing. The best way for writers to optimize their writing is through understanding their audience. In the essay Determining Your Writing Style (n.d.), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Methods of propaganda and doublespeak mislead the reader so they can no longer form educated opinions about the topic. Audiences are expected to be critical and to know how to challenge and to question, how to make distinctions between propaganda and reasonable argument (Cross, 1977, p. 150). This expectation is unreasonable because it is the writer s responsibility to not use misleading methods and to voice his or her opinion without using subtle techniques of persuasion. Writers should, therefore, avoid using any techniques of propaganda, such as name calling, glittering generalities, argumentum ad populum, transfer, card stacking, or any of the other numerous ways to persuade people without their consent. Doublespeak is another technique that should be avoided by all writers. Doublespeak, as defined in the essay The World of Doublespeak by William Lutz (1989), is language which pretends to communicate but doesn t, language which makes the unpleasant attractive, or at least tolerable , and through doing this, it conceals and prevents one s actual thoughts (p. 178). Doublespeak shrouds and averts thought and should be avoided by all writers. Not only is a writer who uses doublespeak concerned with distracting the reader for his or her personal gain, but it also does not consider ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
