Example Of Discourse Community
INTRODUCTION: Finding people who share common interests and enjoy the same activities as
yourself can often be difficult to find, but is necessary to have. Especially during college, a time
where you are receiving your independence, but unsure of what that truly means, feeling lonely is
valid and expected. However, college can offer many resources to aid you in these emotions, by
having plenty of discourse communities you can join, or even offering you the opportunity to
create your own. As quoted by Herzberg in The Concept of Discourse Community, the idea of a
discourse community is not well defined yet (469). Despite the vague concept John Swales offers,
he further goes on to elaborate on what six characteristics discourse communities can be identified
through. A discourse community which one of my roommates participates in is the Vietnamese
Student Association (VSA). The VSA is a cultural club for students at University of California,
Davis, who identify as Vietnamese, and want to come together with others a part of the same
background. The VSA is a perfect model of a discourse community, as it passes the checkpoints
Swales provides to identify one.
METHODS: To fully understand how the Vietnamese Student Association operates and functions
as a discourse community, I interviewed a member of the club, Alyssa. Alyssa is a first year
biology major who just joined VSA a mere month and a half ago. Despite her short time
participating in the club, she was still very

This is a very positive aspect of my life, but you can always improve on anything and I d like to
on my openness to others as I have talked about above. Intellectual wellness is being open to new
ideas, the ability to think and question critically, motivation to fulfill new skills, sense of
humor, creativity as well as having curiosity. My goals for intellectual wellness are to keep my
mind constantly learning and never be satisfied with what I have learned. My weaknesses for
Intellectual wellness are also very few, the one thing that I think really stands out from the list is
creativeness. Which also may have some things to do with thinking critically. My strengths are
that I m a very open minded person always willing to try and experience something new. I have a
great motivation and determination inside of me that makes me want to perfect whatever it is I
m doing at the time whatever it may be. My sense of humor is also very key, I couldn t live
without having humor and laughing, its just one of the greatest things about live to make
someone smile or smiling yourself. I also find myself curios about new things asking questions
and researching about things I don t know something about, constantly trying to learn more and
more all of the time. My goals as far as Intellectual wellness go to keep on doing what I have been

Christianity Rediscovered By Vincent J. Donovan
Christianity Rediscovered
Chapter One:
In the first chapter of Christianity Rediscovered by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the
idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says History has offered
the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age . For a long time
a missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have
diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to
be the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and
acceptance. In today s age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more
focused on the health and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel
through missionary work, but in other cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the
book as a voyage of discovery he wants us to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of
living a missionaries life and struggling with the fact of if you are helping or hurting.
Donovan speaks about the missionaries who came to East Africa after they were taken into
slavery. The missionaries thought it would be a good idea to come over and buy the people to
save them from harsh lives, so they bought as many as they could. Doing this they also taught them
all of their customs and where forced into Christianity instead of their beliefs ways and cultures.

Reducing Public Services
Yet another set of cuts is now foreseen to our beleaguered local service, just days after
announcements were made regarding consultations on reducing children s services, school buses
and, well, just about anything you can think of which serves the public basically.
This time the council is proposing reviewing the timetables of a number of bus services in and
around Witney, but also other rural areas of the County. I can t comment on services in other
neighbourhoods, but our 18 and 19 routes are for many people a lifeline. For the elderly,
unemployed, disabled and youths buses are the one and only form of transport available to them to
get them into the main business centres of Witney and Oxford.
The council is proposing reducing these services from hourly to two hourly. If you have opened the
consultation papers online you would have noticed that this would save the council at most under
ВЈ200,000 a sum which is insignificant in the annual transport budget of just over ВЈ53 million,
but one with severe repercussions for many.
The view of the Green Party is simple. We can t justify the existence of public services just on the
basis of a crude income and expenditure analysis. In the instance of transport a proper cost benefit
analysis should take into account matters such as benefit to the environment, sustainability and
overall services distribution. In this context reducing buses in rural areas would clearly make no
sense whatsoever.

students by showing separate ways the cup is being used and if it is useful. The first cup the
author talks about says that the cup is upside down. That the student is there to learn but pays no
attention. In this way using the analogy of the cup shows that the cup is there but it is upside
down therefore it cannot be used or filled up because for example if its upside down on a table it

The Green Light In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
THE GREAT GATSBY
The passage above is situated on the last page of Chapter Nine from the Great Gatsby written by
F.Scott Fitzgerald. The extract deals with Nick standing at daisy s dock and describing the
green light. Nick believed that Gatsby was the only one who saw the green light, was optimistic
about the future and still believed that he had a chance with his golden girl Daisy even after all
they had been through which included Daisy being married to Tom. Fitzgerald implicates one of
the major themes in the novel The American Dream through Gatsby s love for Daisy after all
several years. According to Nick s analysis, the more Gatsby moved towards his dreams, the more
he was driven closer the wrongs in his past which lead to his obliteration. Fitzgerald focuses on
human beings struggling to achieve their goals by surpassing and re creating their past . Yet he
thinks that humans have proven to forget and move forward from their past.. The primary function
of this paragraph is to shine light on who Gatsby exactly is through Nick s eyes. This passage also
implicated one of the major themes in the novel the American dream through Gatsby s hope. ...

Different Perspectives In Octavia Butler s Kindred
In Octavia Butler s Kindred, Dana and Kevin both experience many unbelievable events that
change their sense of reality. They each travel back to the antebellum South for different amounts
of time, gaining different insights from the same events. Kevin, a white man, travels back to a
time of privilege, while his wife Dana, a black woman, travels back to a timeof hardship and
enslavement. Their contrasting perspectives cause them to see the world differently. For example,
Kevin draws from his sole point of view, while Dana uses her own perspective with other people s
perspectives. No matter when or where they are, Dana and Kevin determine the truththrough what
see and what they already know.
Kevin and Dana first conflict when Dana returns to 1976 for the first time. Kevin is in disbelief
about where Dana went, as he suggests what she experienced was a dream (17). He says this
despite the fact that he saw Dana disappear and reappear, something out of the ordinary. His
perspective is different from Dana s, meaning what he sees isn t always what actually happens.
Dana goes back in time, while Kevin saw Dana vanish and reappear (16). Despite not knowing what
Dana experienced, he still believes his point of view is a fact. Kevin insists Dana s experience was a
dream, and refers to his perspective as facts (16). By doing so, he asserts his perspective, the white
male perspective, is objective and truthful, while Dana s is illegitimate. Kevin s view is similar to

Kant And Morality
When talking about whether or not consequences of an act have anything to do with morality,
one must think of all the ways in which an individual s acts could be considered morally wrong.
Morality relates to conduct, whereas they both involve some type of action that is partaken by
the individual, which can be mistaken as being good even though the consequences are
considered bad (Dewey, 1891).When a person performs an action, and the outcome of that action
is a negative one, we often find ourselves blaming anything other than the individual themselves
because we believe they had no foresight on what was going to happen. Dewey describes that
when conduct and character are involved in telling if somebody is being moral, or immoral, we
are unable to say whether or not the action was good or bad until we know how that action turns
out and we know what the consequences are. (Dewey, 1891).
In order to decide whether or not a consequence of an action is morally good, or morally wrong,
one must first recognize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duties and laws apply to an individual and their morality. Kant states that morality cannot be based
on man, we cannot base morality on experiences because morality is unconditioned. (Kant, 1998).
Metaphysical philosophy is pure, much as morality is unconditioned and pure. Metaphysics applies
to our efforts of understanding the world around us, it is independent from all experiences and
knowledge and applies to all, much as morality applies to all. Metaphysics cannot be compared to
the empirical because the empirical is based on our experiences, it is completely individual and
therefore cannot be applied to all morality. Kant states that you cannot understand practical morals
without metaphysics. (Kant, 1998). This is the basis of understanding whether or not Kant believes
consequences of an act have anything to do with

Global Marketing Campaigns For Multi National Brands
The key issue discussed within the article was about whether companies with brands that run across
countries should go global or localize their advertising campaigns for multi national brands. Global
marketing campaigns allow for brands to run the same marketing campaigns across many different
countries, utilizing the same creative with few changes across multiple regions of the world. Global
marketingcampaigns are very efficient because they allow for a single creative message to be
utilized which is cheaper and faster to produce, allows for easy media purchases, and is simpler to
traffic creative to different locations. In the case, the marketing team for Johnny Walker wanted to
utilize this global marketing method, by creating one commercial that could be run across multiple
countries with little to no variations to the creative in each market (only small changes would be
made, e.g. translating languages). The problem with global marketing campaigns is different
countries often have different interpretations of the creative, due to the unique cultural,
demographic, and economic situations they are surrounded by. This can lead audiences within one
country to be highly receptive to a message, and an audiences in another country to interpret it in a
different way. In the Johnny Walker example, they created one commercial that featured young men
doing different extreme and exciting adventures, showing that Johnny Walker empowered them to
do what they wanted in their lives.

I would tell her that not every woman bleeds during their first time having sex. The bleeding is
dependent on the person. A woman s hymen could have been torn in some other way before her
first time having sex. Additionally, vigorous play and tampon use can also lead to earlier bleeding
and explain why a womans hymen is already torn. All women are different, thus pain and bleeding
occurring during every woman s first time having sex is different too.
2.Briefly explain at least two ways that cultural influences may contribute to the development of
sexual dysfunctions among women. (1 point)
In our culture, we tend to give more masculine names to a man s penis and dirty sounding names to
a woman s vagina. This contributes to women feeling uncomfortable and degraded. The male
genitalia names mostly reference power, while names for women genitalia mostly have negative
connotations. In Chinese culture, the vulva is referred to as something beautiful, such as a flower.
Another influence to the development of sexual dysfunction among women is pornography. Some
women tend to imitate what sexual workers in pornography do because it is a very large part of
our culture. However, this leads to sexual displeasure for women and their partners. Imitating sexual
pleasure leads to sexual disfunction.

(2 points)
Token resistance is when someone says no to sexual advances, but they actually really want to
engage in sex. Saying no in this scenario can lead to negative consequences because it prevents
honest communication and gives into gender stereotypes. This can also give men the idea that it is
okay to disregard women s refusals when it comes to sex. This can lead to men becoming more
aggressive it they think a woman is using token

Psychology Paper Reign over Me
Reign Over Me
Reign Over Me by Mike Binder shows the life of a man who loses everything on the day of
September 11, 2001. Charlie Fineman played by Adam Sandler suffers the loss of his wife and
three daughters in the tragic plane accident. Despite five years passing Charlie has not yet been
able to deal with his loss and as a result creates his own world of vinyl records and video games.
By doing so he isolates himself from anything and everything that reminds him of what he once
had; leaving his once blissful apartment full of bare walls.
Flashbacks are a key characteristic of a person who suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder.

This aspect of the film, although heart wrenching, shows that Charlie does have some
recollection of the events leading up to the plane crash. A person suffering from posttraumatic
stress disorder has the tendency to not think about those events and even supresses them
(Lilienfeld et al., 2010). Despite this microscopic flaw, Reign Over Me is most likely the greatest
movie representation of a person suffering from PTSD. In a chi squared test at the University of
Liverpool of individuals with chronic posttraumatic stress disorder, findings revealed that men are
likely to increase alcohol consumption as a result of a traumatic event (Z. I. Kekelidze et. el, 2009)
.In the movie we also witness Charlie purchasing alcohol and drinking the entire bottle before
attempting to have himself shot by police officers.
Charlie s battle with chronic PTSD is a difficult journey as he drowns himself in music in order to
prevent himself from thinking about the things which he fears most. Director Mike Binder
incredibly enables the viewer to enter the mind of a person suffering from PTSD and successfully
stays true to the not only the symptoms of the disorder, but also its effects of loved ones and the
individual themself.

Essay On Wrongful Convictions
A wrongful conviction occurs when a person is accused of a crime and later on is found to be
innocent. Wrongful convictions lead to innocent people serving sentences for an events they were
not guilty of. Wrongful convictions happen because of false confessions, incentivized informants,
inadequate defense, misapplication of forensic science, an unfair trial, and media influence.
Although wrongful convictions primarily bring negative consequences towards the convicted, there
also are negative effects towards the prosecutor and the victims of the crime. This pressurizes for

Eyewitness misidentification are the leading errors to a wrongful conviction. Although there is
such a high risk for errors, it is still the most powerful testimony or piece of evidence during a trial.
With the value an eyewitness is given, there are many risks a prosecutor takes when using them as
their most important piece of evidence. Throughout the process, starting from the crime and going
until the conviction, eyewitnesses are placed under stress and anxiety. There is also the flaw that
the human brain tends to overlook specific details. According to the California Innocence Project,
details like a stranger s height, weight, age, and hair are often overlooked . ( Eyewitness

missing pieces based off of their inference and what they feel like the suspect is supposed to look

Use Of Macabre Atmosphere In The Masque Of The Red Death
Edgar Allan Poe created a macabre atmosphere in the short story The Masque of the Red Death that
can be seen throughout the entire plot of the story. The story centers around the Red Death, a
devastating disease that causes sharp pains, dizziness, and then profuse bleeding from the pores.
This is the basis of the plot in the story, through which Edgar Allan Poecreates a macabre
atmosphere. This in turn strengthens the theme of the story, which is that no one, no matter how
hard they try, cannot escape death. In The Masque of the Red Death, the Red Death has long
affected the fictional country in which the story takes place. As mentioned before, the Red Death
causes it s victims to die quickly and quite gruesomely. Despite this, Prince Prospero decides to
lock himself and some guests in his palace where they would party, while the disease was still
spreading throughout the rest of the land. The palace has seven rooms, each the room a different

This is why despite trying as hard as Prince Prospero and his friends could to avoid the Red

Death, No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal the

The Protagonists In The Queen Of Spades And The Overcoat
Newfound obsession dictates protagonists lives in many short stories from the early 1800s.
While it briefly transforms their values and improves their lives, it ultimately leads to the
protagonist s demise. The Queen of Spades by Alexander Pushkin (1834) and The Overcoat by
Nikolai Gogol (1842) illustrate this in their respective main characters: Hermann and Akaky. Both
Hermann and Akaky are economical men. Hermann is prudent with his inheritance from his father
and does not gamble, as he is not in the position to sacrifice the necessary in the hopes of winning
the superfluous (Pushkin 1). Similarly, Akaky is a stingy man who, after hearing the price of a

before receiving his coat, his life seems fuller, as if he were married (Gogol 34). This feeling is
due to his passion and ambition to earn the money to buy the coat, and is a significant
improvement from Akaky s previously meaningless, lonely life. Furthermore, the aforementioned
insecure and hesitant nature Akaky portrays such as his inability to speak complete sentences
when speaking about difficult matters (Gogol 30) disappeared of themselves (Gogol 34) due to
the confidence that came with the passion he has to earn the money for his coat. The benefits
Herman receives are more tangible than Akaky s. Instead of respect, Hermann wins 47 000 rubles
then doubles his winnings (Pushkin 22) after fulfilling his obsession of uncovering the card secret.
He also gains the respect of all the other gamblers, albeit for a short period of time. The fulfilment of
these obsessions brought short term improvement to the protagonists

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Ppaca)
I.Overview
The purpose of this paper is to present a brief overview and timeline of the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act (PPACA) that was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23,
2010 and to discuss its potential impact on healthcare access, costs and quality, and insurance
companies. .
II.Healthcare Reform Timeline
The PPACA includes comprehensive reforms that will take place over the next four years. It is
intended to hold insurance companies more accountable, protect consumers, lower health care
costs, increase the quality of care and provide more health care choices and improved access for all
Americans. Some of the major provisions and their effective dates are outlined in the following
sections.
A. 2010 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B.Improving Quality and Lowering Costs
The payment incentives provided to healthcare providers under the PPACA will most likely lead to
improved healthcare quality. In addition, reimbursement will shift from being based on quantity to
being value based which will in turn incentivize providers to provide higher quality care.
Although the Congressional Budget Office reported that the PPACA will reduce the U.S. budget
deficit, it is doubtful and remains to be seen what will actually happen. Also, it is anticipated that
businesses will pay the fines imposed by the PPACA because it will be cheaper than obtaining
insurance coverage for the employees.
C.Holding Insurance Companies Accountable
A major pro of the PPACA is that it establishes several new rules and controls for insurance
companies including requiring that they cannot deny coverage for pre existing conditions, must
spend a certain percentage of premiums collected on actual patient care costs. These new rules
provide protection for consumers and ensure insurance companies are held accountable for the care
and services provided to patients that are enrolled in their plans.
Another major issue that has raised considerable debate and even led to law suits being filed is the
constitutionality of the PPACA. Those who oppose healthcare reform argue that it is
unconstitutional for Congress to require that every person purchase health insurance. However, the
PPACA improves access to healthcare which

Outbreak, Causes, And Risks, Effects And Prevention Of The...
An outbreak disease which is likely to be a potential disease in New Zealand is measles. This is
a very contagious and deadly virus that has caused a huge amount of deaths during previous
centuries. The main symptoms of this virus include a sore throat, fever, rashes and inflamed eyes.
This disease is very hard to detect within two weeks of infection because you are not able to see
clear signs or symptoms of measles. This outbreak, however, is not particularly new to New
Zealand, as it has been previously seen here in the 1960s and but has started being witnessed in the
upper north island and now occurring in the South Island. This essay will discuss, the outbreak,
causes, and risks, impact and prevention of the measles virus.
An outbreak is when the number of cases for a disease is suddenly more than the expected
number of counts, with the outbreak occurring within a limited geographical area, for example,
Auckland or Mt Roskill. This is similar to an epidemic, but the area that would be affected is
different for the two. If the measles disease were to impact on a geographical location, infecting
a large number of people in a small period, it would be labelled as an epidemic with the cases
reported more than the expected count, but because an outbreak is limited to the particular
geographical area, it is labelled an outbreak. The expected count of cases for the disease occurring
could be identified looking at previous times in which the outbreak occurred. For

The 3rd Tuesdays With Morrie
Super Summarizer: Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom (Week 4, pages 60 to 79)
Title: The Third Tuesday, We Talk About Dependence
Throughout pages 60 to 79 of Tuesdays with Morrie , the story touches upon the topics of trust,
nostalgia (a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past), and affection; topics that require
us to rely on something or someone and teach us the important of dependency.
In the chapter The Second Tuesday , Morrie teaches his class about trust through an activity
where We are to stand, facing away from our classmates, and fall back ward, replying on another
student to catch us (Albom, 60). The moral of this activity is to teach us how and who to trust, as
evident in the following passage. Sometimes you cannot believe what you see, you have to
believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that
you can trust them, too even when you re in the dark. Even when you re falling (61). Morrie is
teaching us that to depend on someone, we must not judge them by their appearance or skill. ...

The Recidivism Rate of Juvenile Sex Offenders between Uses of Legal Sentencing as Adults or
Utilizing Psychological Treatment
It is typically thought that sex offenders are the type of individual that needs to be tried in our
courts and then sentenced because there is really no hope for an individual that harms the most
innocent of our society. But there just may be an exception to this way of thinking. Juveniles who
at one point themselves may have been victims, and as they have grown into adolescence not

The victims of this type of offender are for the most part male. (Gunby) Another type of offender
that researchers are beginning to study, that is the offender with high levels of psychopathic traits.
There is what the study referred to as modest information on this type of offender compared to
their adult counterpart. But from what they have studied thus far is that juvenile sex offenders
with high levels of psychopathic traits had more severe antisocial histories, and had higher rates
of general and violent recidivism. They were also more likely to use weapons or threats during
the sexual offense, and were more likely to recidivate when released from prison. (Lawing) The
reasons that an adolescent may become a sex offender are as varied as the types of offenders.
Causes
Juvenile sexual offenders more frequently experienced internalizing problems, had poor self esteem,
social isolation and more frequently experienced sexual abuse in their early childhoods than non
sexual offenders. In addition, juvenile sexual abusers also exhibited more problems in their peer
relationships. There is other research that has shown substantial evidence for a relationship between
juvenile sexually abusive behavior and family dysfunction, and violence. Typically speaking abusers

Network operating systems also have their own protocols i.e. NetWare also supports tcp/ip
Domain names are the way to identify one or more ip addresses. i.e. google.com represents lots of
ip addresses; domain names are used in URLs to identify a particular web page. Each domain name
has a suffix that indicates what top level domain (TLD) it belongs to. The suffix s are

Racial Profiling and Male African Americans
What comes to your mind when you think of an interaction an authoritative figure (police, teacher,
principal)? In the African Americancommunity it is usually fear and anxiety of the motive of the
authoritative figure, especially if you are a male. The intersection of race and gender for the African
American male provides a basis for premature judgment by many authoritative figures in their lives.
African American males deserve the same equality to succeed in life as any other human being
without the threat of the damned if you do, damned if you don t moniker that defines the functional

Now consider the number of innocents that never get this chance at redemption. Currently the
Federal Bureau of Investigation is collecting racial and ethnic information and mapping American
communities based on crude stereotypes about which groups commit different types of crime and
sharing it with unknown state, local and federal agencies (American Civil Liberties Union,
2012). Since 9/11 the operating parameters Americans expect to protect their rights to privacy
have been obliterated. The FBI can now initiate an investigation of a person without the standards
of just cause that once protected the rights of all Americans. To the African American male this
is nothing new, random searches and undue investigations have always been a part of being an
AAM. From a police prospective there are ongoing efforts to equalize the authorities governing
the communities focused on diversifying the system and gaining trust amongst the inhabitants.
Jones Brown (2001) argues that to be black and male amounts to a fatal profile for which there
has been little to no judicial redress. She cites Natapoff (2004) in noting that one in four black
males 20 29 years of age is locked up, on probation or parole, or being pressured to snitch. The
research goes further to say that one in twelve in high crime areas are snitching under duress
causing a social breakdown of communities nationwide.

Jit Production System And Quality Control
Today a new production paradigm has emerged which can traced to various developments and
innovations within the JIT production system and quality control in Japan within the 1950s.
Variously labelled world class manufacturing , lean production , new production system , JIT/TQC ,
time based competition has become a mainstream approach to production ideology by the major
manufacturing companies in both the USA and within Europe. This new ideology of production
has already had some profound consequences in a range of diverse industries from car
manufacturing to electronics. Beyond this the techniques have spread into fields such as
customized production, services, administration and product development. This new philosophy
has evolved... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In design, control and improvement of production systems, both aspects have to be considered.
Herein lies the issue: traditionally managerial philosophies have only considered conversions, either
that or else all activity has been considered as adding value. The general disregard of flow processes
have led to a complex, confused and uncertain understanding of their operation as well an expansion
of non value adding activities and hence a reduction of general output value. Nonetheless a range of
flow process principles have evolved and there is good evidence that these principles have produced
an efficiency of flow processes and also one which may be considerably improved. These can be
summarized thus: 1.Reduce the share of non value adding activities. 2.Increase output value
through systematic consideration of customer requirements. 3.Reduce variability. 4.Reduce cycle
times. 5.Simplify by minimizing the number of steps, parts and linkages. 6.Increase output
flexibility. 7.Increase process transparency. 8.Focus control on the complete process. 9.Build
continuous improvement into the process. 10.Balance flow improvement with conversion
improvement. 11.Benchmark. Various forms of analysis has demonstrated that, as with the
manufacturing sector, the conceptual basis of construction

Journey Of Being Kind Analysis
The Journey of Being Patient Being kind is a task everyone is challenged with each day but
many people never seem to master kindness. Kindness is an emotion that is giving off to others
as being polite and considering others whether you know them or not. Kindness is a
characteristic that is only felt or seen by others. Kindness is a form of love that someone can
express towards somebody and will either be excepted or denied. The importance of kindness is
to see that being kind is the right thing to do in any situation no matter the anger or frustration.
Kindness is needed in order to show love and happiness to others and also shows that you respect a
relation with someone. If you drown someone with kindness people see good character in you...

Although I see myself as a kind, polite, and generous person my toughest battle is being
impatient. My struggle with being impatient definitely comes from my father as that is all I was
ever shown. I get along with everyone and I am well liked with many friends ,but when I am
wronged I always feel the need to retaliate. My impatience is the biggest problem I see wrong
with myself which makes me feel disgusted with myself because I crush others hearts when I
retaliate. There is a constant pain when I hurt others and shows my lack of self control. One time my
little brother that is fourteen now and I were cleaning the house. I gave my brother a order of
things to clean and I had my own. I saw he was taking a lot of breaks and not doing a very good
job scrubbing the white cabinets. I grabbed him and yelled at him telling him that he was lazy as
hell and that his cleaning looked like crap. He was upset and wanted to retaliate but knew he
didn t have a chance. I then calmed down after a bit and saw myself acting just as my father
would towards my brother. I had just demonstrated to my dad what I always hated. I felt awful
and selfish for my actions. I then went to him and apologized and told his how sorry I was. My
actions and anger towards him that day really showed me I had a problem with patience and could
do better. I saw that nothing would change if I didn t

High School Writing Analysis
Throughout my years of being a student I ve written several pieces for several different classes,
some I may flaunt just a bit while with other pieces I try to just turn in, get a grade, and then hide
in the back of a folder in order to keep others from seeing the slightly subpar work I may have
produced. While I always do try to write eloquently there has always been that one assignment in
that one class in which I just try my hardest to get a good grade rather than write something I m
particularly proud of. For example, last year for AP World History I produced a well formatted,
well researched paperon the Guatemalan genocide. While it was written properly I feel as though I

I do know that these are not the types of papers that I can just write in order to please a teacher
by following an outline to get a good grade, these are papers that require a different type of
comprehension as to the topic you re writing. Being able to reflect back onto the papers I ve done in
high school, book reports in particular, it s clear as to which mistakes I ve made in my writing.
One of the errors that I am probably most guilty of is not writing to a proper audience. The first
thing I m usually thinking when writing a paper is will this appeal to my teacher? and is this
good enough to score an A? and I don t believe that s a particularly good way to go about writing
when in college. Rather than speaking solely to your professors, it s important to be sure a
wider array of people can enjoy or relate to what it is you re writing. For example I m sure this
paper in particular could appeal to many high school students, because I m sure we re all guilty of

Characteristics Of A Poorly Written Report
As a police officer, the difference between a well written and poorly written report is massive. A
poorly written report can leave out crucial points that will affect the outcome of each case. There
are certain rules of writing when writing a report, that will change a poorly written report to a well
written one.
The first rule is writing in first person. An officer should always refer to themselves as I or me.
Doing this will clearly identify you as being the person doing the investigation. It will look good to
those reading your report, and also sound good to those who will hear your testimony. This will let
the reader know that is was the officer that conducted the investigation writing the report and not a
separate person recounting details and possibly missing facts. The second rule to writing is writing
in the past tense. The events in the report have already happened, and therefore should be written
in the past tense. By writing this way, you will develop consistency, therefore creating a report
that is professional and easy to read. The third rule is to use an active voice in your report. This
style of writing shows who is doing an action, instead of a passive voice which shows who is
having something done to them. This will allow the officer to mention first who was doing the
action before stating the action itself. The fourth rule in writing is to write in chronological order.
Starting all reports with the date and time and how you as an officer got involved,

Global Warming And Its Impact On The Contemporary World
Global warming has been deteriorating, and criticised by the entire world environmental
organisations throughout the contemporary world. This phenomenon is mainly associated be
human made pollutions and wastes emitted through the global industrialisation. Out of this global
issue, modern architects has started to design architectures which included the concern of
sustainability. Sustainable architecturecan be divided in three different core parts: sustainable
materials, sustainable construction and sustainable technologies. Moreover, sustainable
architectural materials will be the aim in this report due to the reasons that exploring various types
of sustainable architectural materials and how architects had applied those materials on the
architecture design are always a popular topic, also materials would be an important section that
people could be easily understood and noticed in their daily life. Furthermore, the research will be
tended to focus on researching new kind of sustainable materials in the contemporary architectural
world based in some article and books written by the architectural professionals, and seek for
innovate sustainable materials that might have not been in common used for architecture. The
research on this project aims to examine sustainability in architectural aspect, also, the advantage
that sustainable architecture has been made in modern architecture.

The ABC Murders Summary and analysis
Summary (Spoiler Alert):
Hastings, Hercule Poirot s partner and assistant, returns to Britain, just as Poirot receives a sinister
letter from an unknown person under the alias ABC. The letter says, that he should look out for
Andover, on the 21st of the month.
Just as stated in the letter, something happens on the 21st. A woman in Andover, named Alice
Asher, turns up dead. On the crime scene an ABC railway guide is found, and Andover is marked.
The police believes that this is just a coincidence, and that the letter and the murder are not
connected.
On the very same day, Poirot receives another letter. This time it tells Poirot, to look out for Bexhill

Poirot thinks the entire case through, and he has a revelation. He gathers everyone to tell the story,
and Franklin, Sir Carmichael Clarkes brother is revealed as the culprit.
Analysis of Hercules Poirot:
Hercules Poirot is a cunning belgian private detective. He is a very plain character, and troughout
the film, he does not undergo any changes to his personality. His plain character is very
characteristic for the british crime fictions. This is aimed, towards keeping the puzzle in the center
of attention.
Poirot would never engage in violence, instead he uses his famous little grey cells to solve the
puzzles. Poirot does not believe in coincidences, which is seen several times in the film. Even
though he is little, he stands tall.
From start to finish Poirot is teaching Hastings about being a detective, and how to catch the real
clues. This is very common in crime fiction, and it tends to happen quite often in crime novels and
films. This also happens in the Sherlock Holmes novels/films, where Sherlock Holmes is teaching
Dr. Watson how to think, and how to observe.
Poirot is very smart and guileful, in the way he plays tricks on the murdered peoples relatives. He
is a man of pride and dignity, and in his own eyes he is the best detective in the world.

Argumentative Essay On Pretty Little Liars
Pretty Little Liars is finally coming to an end after seven seasons. There have been plenty of

A.D. has been tormenting the liars for several years and now, everything is going to be put out

big reveal to include Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale), but that appears to have been blown when

been a suspect on Pretty Little Liars throughout the seven seasons it has been on the air. Many of
the guesses have made sense, some of them even being connected to A and the army of minions
that was built. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) may
have a twin. There have been several hints dropped about this throughout the seven seasons, many
of them listed to back the theory up. One of the most notable facts was that when the liars went to
talk to Mary s (Andrea Parker) doctor, he mentioned he took care of her through two of her
pregnancies. That would explain Charlotte (Vanessa Ray) and Spencer, but were there more

Under Armour Stock Is On Steroids But Investors Want More
Under Armour stock is on steroids but investors want more (Gillespie). Can Under Armour
deliver? This company has been providing a great example for all companies to follow in order
to be successful and attract investors. There are several solid reasons why Under Armour is able
to attest to such a statement. Investors and consumers should invest in the Under Armour
Company over the competition because its success is a result of serving as a great economic and
social model for businesses everywhere. Under Armour is a widely known and financially
successful corporation in today s athletic apparel and performance industry; however nineteen
years ago it all began with one man s vivid idea. Kevin Plank, a young aspiring athlete and special
team s captain for the University of Marylandfootball team, was the first in 1996 to formulize an
idea with purpose to provide athletes with a shirt to fit their workout and game needs. As any
athlete knows cotton is not the best choice for vigorous activity since this fabric does not dry
quickly. This notion is what catapulted Plank s idea. He put his ideas into motion by creating a
blend of fabrics that worked best for the comfort of athletes as this was his main goal. Plank named
his company Under Armour and based it upon one shirt that he advertised as a tight fitting, moisture
wicking t shirt that supports your muscles and regulates your body temperature (Under Armour,

How To Write An Essay On George Patton Battle
George Patton George Patton was born in San Gabriel, California on November 11, 1885. Patton
was considered one of the most successful combat generals in U.S history. In WWI he was
assigned to the Tank Corps and then in WWII he helped lead the Allies to victory in the invasion
of Sicily and was instrumental to the release of Germany from the Nazis. Patton was also one of
the most complicated military men, known for carrying pistols with ivory handles and his
intemperate manner. Patton s ruthless drive and desire for battle earned him the nickname Old

Patton was given command of the first and second Armored Divisions and organized a training

In late 1942, Patton headed to North Africa at the head of the American force. Before the troops
landed on Morocco s Atlantic coast he gave the troops, what is now, a legendary philosophy of
battle: We shall attack and attack until we are exhausted, and then we shall attack again. Patton
led the American into their first major victory after a series of defeats. In order to prepare the
U.S. 7th Army for its invasion of Sicily Patton turned over his command in North Africa. During
this time Patton s reputation suffered greatly after slapping a soldier, who was suffering from
shell shock, accusing him of cowardice. This incident landed Patton a reprimanding from
President Eisenhower and he was forced to make a public apology. Despite this fact, the invasion of

Egg Condition Of Egg Research Paper
An egg has the capability of withstanding a large amount of force as long as the force in
distributed evenly around the egg. For example, an egg can be thrown like a baseball and
sometimes the egg won t break if it lands from a high toss into grass. When the force of an egg is
focused at one point it will break but if it is evened out around the egg, the egg has a higher chance
of not breaking. Along with evening out the force, it will also benefit the egg if the impact is
decreased with the help of outside objects surrounding the egg. The structure should absorb and

Oldcastle Precast of Avon, Conn. prefabricated a precast concrete pool and weir fish ladder,
designed for a tributary to Hubbard Brook, Middletown, as part of the Connecticut Department of

The Connecticut Department of Transportation included a concrete pool and weir fish ladder to the

ladder, at this site, by the CT DEEP Inland Fisheries Division and the Fishery department. The new
fish ladder is providing fish passage through the slip line repaired culvert. Slip lining entails

The Connecticut DEEP and the Fishery department found multiple benefits to adding a fish

The Chicano Of Chicano Literature
FINAL ESSAY
Chicano Literature has been around since the 1800s after the Mexican war . Mexican American
Literature is stories that writers talk about their ethnic identities through Chicano culture situations
and characters. They are their own culture, who take traditions and customs from Mexico and
American and make up their own history with it. They try to identify themselves with one culture
or the other, the food, the customs, traditions and many other things. The boundaries that define a
Chicano/a is that Chicanos live between two worlds, between two borders the American side and
their Mexican side. At first, the borders may stop them from assimilating, constructing an
environment of mistrust and hesitation. However, these boundaries do not reveal who they are
until they figure out how to blend into their new society . If they do not assimilate to their new
identity/culture it may cause them to lose a part of who they are. Nonetheless, being near a Border
can have benefits as well as consequences like the loss of culture. Assimilation means to adapt to a
new culture and become a part of them. People of different backgrounds and beliefs undergo
assimilation when, through living together, they come to see themselves as part of a larger
community. The reason why you see assimilation often in Chicano/a Literature is because many
Mexicans try to blend into the American culture. Many Chicanos write stories about what they have
lived through the years or stories they have

1.1.1RA 1: Risk Assessment Policy and Procedures
Implementation Status: In place.
Implementation of Control: The Department of Health and Human Services has implemented risk
assessment policies and procedures such as HIPAA, through its regulatory compliance of OMB
Circular A 130, and NIST SP 800 37 Rev.1 standards. They have done so, by establishing,
dissementing, and periodically reviewing/updating formal documented risk assessment policy and
procedures that address the purpose, scope, roles, responsibilities, and compliance of the

may suffer with low self esteem and low self respect because of the stigma attached to poverty,
this can affect them in later life also. Ethnic/cultural beliefs and customs Whilst children and
young people should feel proud of their ethnicity, some may experience racism which can have
an impact on their self esteem, what they would like to do and their outlook. This factor may
affect how they dress, their dietary requirements and socialising. They may encounter
discrimination an insufficient equality that can effect their opportunities in life. All settings and
staff should show awareness and understanding of their needs. Bereavement and loss The loss of
a loved one such as a parent, sibling, grandparent or friend can turn a child s world upside down.
Grief can bring all sorts of emotions, upset, sadness, hurt and anger because they are gone and,

Charlemagne Or Charles The Great
Charlemagne or Charles the Great, (747 814) was one of the most significant people during the
Middle Ages, playing a key role in defining the shape and character of Medieval Europe.
Considered the Father of Europe , Charlemagne reigned as King of the Franks (768 814) and
became the first Holy Roman Emperor (800 814). He created a great empire as he dramatically
expanded the Frankish Kingdom in a series of conquests that united most of Western Europe for the
first time since the Roman Empire. He also introduced many governmental, cultural and economic
reforms to further his great Carolingian Empire. Additionally the Emperor fostered the Carolingian
renaissance, a time of great cultural and intellectual revival and reinforced the Christian foothold on
Europe.
Charlemagne s role in Medieval Europe was as a complete leader and emperor, one that effectively
managed every aspect of his empire. As King of the Franks, Charlemagne played the role of a
warrior king, constantly engaged in warfare and through his conquests he no longer ruled a
Kingdom but a veritable empire. When the fall of the Roman Empire led to its dissolution in
Western Europe, it caused a fragmented collection of Kingdoms. As Charlemagne united these
fragments he needed to reconstruct the structures of a complex society and maintain unity within
his realm, which was complicated by the differences between his people. Due to this, Charlemagne
s role was as an effective administrator, and he instituted many

Lawsuit for Wrongful Death, Negligence and Breach of Warranty
Facts
The plaintiff Michael Aloe, widower of Robin Aleo, brought a suit individually and on behalf of
his wife s estate in Massachusetts/ U.S. First Circuit, against SLB Toys, Amazon.com Inc., Toys
R Us, and Amazon.com Kids, Inc., after his wife dies from injuries sustained when an inflatable
pool slide collapsed while she was sliding down. The decedent was attempting to slide down head
first in an inflatable, in ground swimming pool slide imported and sold by Toys R Us. The pool
slide collapsed and caused her to strike her head on the concrete deck of the pool. The decedent
fractured two cervical vertebrae and suffered a severed spinal cord. She died the following day after
she was removed from life support.

A consumer should be able to assume that when they follow the instructions properly, a slide pool
should remain inflated when they use it, without causing any unreasonable danger or harm.
Secondly, Aloe can allege for negligencewhich lead to the wrongful death of his wife because
Toys R Us did not follow the required testing procedures for compliance with Federal Safety
Standard. In addition, Toys R Us are negligent for having only one employee in their safety
assurance department who received approximately 4,000 certificates of this kind per month.
Furthermore, Aloe could also make a strong argument by imposing strict liability in tort on Toys R
Us for personal injuries that result from selling a defective product with design defect that is
unreasonably dangerous to the consumer without proper testing and compliance with Federal
safety standard for such products. Aloe could also appeal for both compensatory and punitive
damages for the loss which could be economic (such as lost income, medical expense) or non
economic (such as pain and suffering and loss of consortium, meaning the loss of someone s active
presence and enjoyment in their life).
Discussion from plaintiff s side
Aloe could argue that the cause of death of his wife is due to the defective and unreasonably
dangerous product that Toys R Us knowingly sold in the market. The regulation

Pros And Cons Of Victor Frankenstein
It s hard to say exactly who thought Victor Frankenstein was a good idea, but my suggestion
would be that they re highly unlikely to have offers rolling across their table in the near future as
Paul McGuigan s reimagining of Mary Shelley s classic tale is on par if ever so slightly more
tolerable than its recent near namesake I, Frankenstein, which is to say, Victor Frankenstein is most
certainly dead on arrival.
There was never a hope that even the most electrified jolt of movie lightning was ever going to
breathe life into this far too serious and downright muddled wannabe blockbuster event with
American Ultra writer Max Landis delivering a ham fisted script that re jigs Victor Frankenstein s
scientific exploits with hunchbacked Igor into

The Leadership Struggle Between Charles Koch And Koch...
This paper profiles the leadership struggle which took place within Koch Industries, a profitable
organization which has remained within the Koch family for the duration of its existence. The
struggle for the organization s future between Charles Koch and William Koch involved a largely
coercive war for power waged in the courts as well as in the boardroom. As well as a history of
Koch Industries, the paper also profiles different sources of power and power tactics that are used
in organizations in general. It concludes with an explanation of why Charles and his faction versus
William ultimately emerged as dominant.

In 1972, Koch lost $4.8 million in a civil fraud suit in federal court in Wichita that involved Koch
s purchase of an oil trading unit (Haneberg, 2012, p. 49). And, he was not able to control his
younger brother William. William was frustrated that his own position within the company did
not garner him greater power he was a chemical engineer, owned 21% of the company, and his
brother kept him on a very short leash in terms of how much authority he was permitted to
exercise, thus limiting his referent power, or the power one derives from associating with equally
powerful persons (Tomsho, 1989; Haneberg, 2012). William clearly believed that the fact he
possessed expertise in the field (another form of power) gave him the right to exercise greater
authority, despite his brother s equally deep belief that power should be consolidated into his hands
alone. Though he sought it, William never gained the power he so desperately

Live The Dream By Christopher Nolan And Co Produced By...
Live the Dream
Inception is a science fiction film that was directed by Christopher Nolan and co produced by
Emma Thomas. It is about the story of how a group of extractors infiltrate the minds of their
targets, extracting information and planting ideas, which is called inception. After watching this
movie, I was deeply impressed by its careful designation, the precise logic of the scenarios, its
method of narration, as well as its use of symbols through the plot. An effective storyteller always
draws the audience s attention. The narrative structure reveals the theme of the contrast and
comparison between real life and life in dreams, and the representative symbols in the movie. Some
techniques are also to be appreciated.
To analyze the narrative structure, the main plot should be introduced at the beginning.
Dominick Cobb and Arthur are extractors who are able to create dream scenarios that seems to
be the real world, and they are able to lead other people into the dream worlds that they build and
invade their subconscious, thereby getting valuable information. In a corporate espionage
attempt, Cobb and Arthur are commanded to steal Saito s business secret. Convinced by Cobb
and Arthur s capacity, Saito finds them and offers them a seemly impossible mission to plant a
seed in Robert Fischer s subconscious to break up Robert s father s energy conglomerate. The
remuneration for Cobb is that his criminal record will be erased in America, which will allow him

Stereotypical Terrorist Essay
Intro When the average person imagines what the typical terrorist looks like, they would not
describe any of the defining characteristics of the average IRA soldier whether physically or
tactically. White Irish accented men and women carrying around assault rifles as well as planting
bombs does not seem like the stereotypical terrorist. While it would be untrue that there has never
been a white terrorist in the modern era because there has, such as Timothy McVeigh, Eric Rudolph,
and the Ted Kaczynski. They still would not fit the stereotypical terrorist of the modern century.

They stick out from other modern terrorist groups because they do not fit the M.O. of new wave
terrorism. They are not religious based, they are not known for using technology such as the
internet and they certainly do not go for mass amounts of casualties. However, they are still
terrorist. They still blow up buildings and assassinate people. They still create fear to
accomplish a political goal and still have killed/wounded a lot of people in single incidents
whether on purpose or not. They are also similar to groups such a the PLO and Hezbollah in the
sense that part of their group uses terrorism and the other part does not condone terrorism but
instead uses diplomacy to get their way. These disagreements in terrorism vs diplomacy policies
have led to splits in the group and even fighting amongst each other which had begun the decline
of the IRA. Ultimately diplomacy has won for now and the terrorist IRA group has settled down
some. With that said, anyone familiar with the IRA s past recognizes that diplomacy does not last
forever and similar to the Palestine Israel conflict; peace agreements are just fleeting moments in
time where both sides are preparing for the inevitable spark that will reignite the forever war. If this
is true, does the United States have anything to fear from a terrorist group that

Immigration Arguments For Immigration
Immigration: An Argument for Loose Borders
Immigration is not only beneficial to the United States, but is a vital component of what the country
is made up of. The United States of America was founded on immigration several hundred years ago
when individuals and their families left their home countries for various different reasons.
Immigration is defined as the movement of people from one country into another, for residential
rather than visiting purposes, which may be for a number of reasons, (QUOTE). Some of the
reasons that people do immigrate to the United States are for economic, familial, personal, and
social reasons. Many individuals come to this country to find a job, support their children or
families, or provide better education for their children, among many other things. Regardless of the
reason, Christians are called to have mercy and be compassionate toward immigrants as outlined in
several different Biblical scriptures. Christians have a moral duty to look after the needs of their
neighbors, and by allowing for more open borders, this can be accomplished. It is important to
examine immigration from several different perspectives, especially from the Wesleyan
Quadrilateral. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral is an important component to apply to any controversial
topic because it causes one to see their worldview from four different perspectives: scripture,
tradition, reason, and experience. These elements bring a fulfilling understanding of Christianity and

Open Source Intelligence Paper
How does the Intelligence Community (IC) thwart the growing challenges of transnational criminal

National Policy, international laws, and not to mention the innocent lives lost surrounding those

Furthermore, HUMINT is unrivaled as its capabilities to unmask private and confidential

counter intelligence efforts and actors. Deception has been said to plague the HUMINT world
leaving many questions of the actual source and motives for the unsolicited information against the
collection target such as potential double agent. Technical collection techniques have been degraded
by the pace of change in telecommunications technology and by our adversaries increasing
awareness of our capabilities such as signal and imagery intelligence, measurement and signature
intelligence. Often times technical collections are hindered by laws and policies we have created to
protect ourselves; Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) which governs, in part, the manner
in which the U.S. government may conduct electronic surveillance within the United States and

Ivan Denisovich Food
In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn shows how Soviet prisoners,
known as Zeks, are treated while being in the gulag for one day through the eyes of the
protagonist and omniscient narrator named Ivan Denisovich Shukhov. Despite being in an
environment such as the Soviet Union, where there is harsh tundra and not much food to eat,
Shukhov tries to make good use of what he has received while trying to keep himself alive. The
purpose of Solzhenitsyn s portrayal of food is to show its overall significance and that it is used
as a means of trade and survival. Over time, the power of food reveals its significance to the Zeks
and especially to Shukhov and food allows both groups understanding towards the necessity of food
for their vitality and well being additionally.
In the beginning of the novel, Solzhenitsyn introduces food when he mentions: The ones that don t
make it are those who lick other men s leftovers, those who count on the doctors to pull them
through, and those who squeal on their buddies. (Denisovich, 4) This was a statement articulated
by a veteran of twelve years, Kuziomin, who tells the prisoners that they would not survive if it
solely depended on other men s leftovers. Readers initially assume that Solzhenitsyn figuratively
stated or used a hyperbole to say that the prisoners lick the other men s leftovers. This however was
true because of the prison system and the strict rules of working for an earning which is, in the

  • 2. Example Of Discourse Community INTRODUCTION: Finding people who share common interests and enjoy the same activities as yourself can often be difficult to find, but is necessary to have. Especially during college, a time where you are receiving your independence, but unsure of what that truly means, feeling lonely is valid and expected. However, college can offer many resources to aid you in these emotions, by having plenty of discourse communities you can join, or even offering you the opportunity to create your own. As quoted by Herzberg in The Concept of Discourse Community, the idea of a discourse community is not well defined yet (469). Despite the vague concept John Swales offers, he further goes on to elaborate on what six characteristics discourse communities can be identified through. A discourse community which one of my roommates participates in is the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA). The VSA is a cultural club for students at University of California, Davis, who identify as Vietnamese, and want to come together with others a part of the same background. The VSA is a perfect model of a discourse community, as it passes the checkpoints Swales provides to identify one. METHODS: To fully understand how the Vietnamese Student Association operates and functions as a discourse community, I interviewed a member of the club, Alyssa. Alyssa is a first year biology major who just joined VSA a mere month and a half ago. Despite her short time participating in the club, she was still very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Christianity Rediscovered By Vincent J. Donovan Christianity Rediscovered Chapter One: In the first chapter of Christianity Rediscovered by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says History has offered the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age . For a long time a missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to be the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In today s age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel through missionary work, but in other cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the book as a voyage of discovery he wants us to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of living a missionaries life and struggling with the fact of if you are helping or hurting. Donovan speaks about the missionaries who came to East Africa after they were taken into slavery. The missionaries thought it would be a good idea to come over and buy the people to save them from harsh lives, so they bought as many as they could. Doing this they also taught them all of their customs and where forced into Christianity instead of their beliefs ways and cultures. This struck off a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Reducing Public Services Yet another set of cuts is now foreseen to our beleaguered local service, just days after announcements were made regarding consultations on reducing children s services, school buses and, well, just about anything you can think of which serves the public basically. This time the council is proposing reviewing the timetables of a number of bus services in and around Witney, but also other rural areas of the County. I can t comment on services in other neighbourhoods, but our 18 and 19 routes are for many people a lifeline. For the elderly, unemployed, disabled and youths buses are the one and only form of transport available to them to get them into the main business centres of Witney and Oxford. The council is proposing reducing these services from hourly to two hourly. If you have opened the consultation papers online you would have noticed that this would save the council at most under ВЈ200,000 a sum which is insignificant in the annual transport budget of just over ВЈ53 million, but one with severe repercussions for many. The view of the Green Party is simple. We can t justify the existence of public services just on the basis of a crude income and expenditure analysis. In the instance of transport a proper cost benefit analysis should take into account matters such as benefit to the environment, sustainability and overall services distribution. In this context reducing buses in rural areas would clearly make no sense whatsoever. Countless previous examples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first cup the author talks about says that the cup is upside down. That the student is there to learn but pays no attention. In this way using the analogy of the cup shows that the cup is there but it is upside down therefore it cannot be used or filled up because for example if its upside down on a table it is shut out and closed but it s there. The extract deals with Nick standing at daisy s dock and describing the green light. Nick believed that Gatsby was the only one who saw the green light, was optimistic about the future and still believed that he had a chance with his golden girl Daisy even after all they had been through which included Daisy being married to Tom. Fitzgerald implicates one of the major themes in the novel The American Dream through Gatsby s love for Daisy after all several years. According to Nick s analysis, the more Gatsby moved towards his dreams, the more he was driven closer the wrongs in his past which lead to his obliteration. Fitzgerald focuses on human beings struggling to achieve their goals by surpassing and re creating their past . Yet he thinks that humans have proven to forget and move forward from their past.. They each travel back to the antebellum South for different amounts of time, gaining different insights from the same events. Kevin, a white man, travels back to a time of privilege, while his wife Dana, a black woman, travels back to a timeof hardship and enslavement. Their contrasting perspectives cause them to see the world differently. For example, Kevin draws from his sole point of view, while Dana uses her own perspective with other people s perspectives. No matter when or where they are, Dana and Kevin determine the truththrough what see and what they already know. Kevin and Dana first conflict when Dana returns to 1976 for the first time. Kevin is in disbelief about where Dana went, as he suggests what she experienced was a dream (17). He says this despite the fact that he saw Dana disappear and reappear, something out of the ordinary. His perspective is different from Dana s, meaning what he sees isn t always what actually happens. Dana goes back in time, while Kevin saw Dana vanish and reappear (16). Despite not knowing what Dana experienced, he still believes his point of view is a fact. Kevin insists Dana s experience was a dream, and refers to his perspective as facts (16). By doing so, he asserts his perspective, the white male perspective, is objective and truthful, while Dana s is illegitimate. Kevin s view is similar to how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Kant And Morality When talking about whether or not consequences of an act have anything to do with morality, one must think of all the ways in which an individual s acts could be considered morally wrong. Morality relates to conduct, whereas they both involve some type of action that is partaken by the individual, which can be mistaken as being good even though the consequences are considered bad (Dewey, 1891).When a person performs an action, and the outcome of that action is a negative one, we often find ourselves blaming anything other than the individual themselves because we believe they had no foresight on what was going to happen. Dewey describes that when conduct and character are involved in telling if somebody is being moral, or immoral, we are unable to say whether or not the action was good or bad until we know how that action turns out and we know what the consequences are. • 11. Global Marketing Campaigns For Multi National Brands The key issue discussed within the article was about whether companies with brands that run across countries should go global or localize their advertising campaigns for multi national brands. Global marketing campaigns allow for brands to run the same marketing campaigns across many different countries, utilizing the same creative with few changes across multiple regions of the world. Global marketingcampaigns are very efficient because they allow for a single creative message to be utilized which is cheaper and faster to produce, allows for easy media purchases, and is simpler to traffic creative to different locations. In the case, the marketing team for Johnny Walker wanted to utilize this global marketing method, by creating one commercial that could be run across multiple countries with little to no variations to the creative in each market (only small changes would be made, e.g. translating languages). The problem with global marketing campaigns is different countries often have different interpretations of the creative, due to the unique cultural, demographic, and economic situations they are surrounded by. This can lead audiences within one country to be highly receptive to a message, and an audiences in another country to interpret it in a different way. In the Johnny Walker example, they created one commercial that featured young men doing different extreme and exciting adventures, showing that Johnny Walker empowered them to do what they wanted in their lives. ... A woman s hymen could have been torn in some other way before her first time having sex. Additionally, vigorous play and tampon use can also lead to earlier bleeding and explain why a womans hymen is already torn. All women are different, thus pain and bleeding occurring during every woman s first time having sex is different too. 2.Briefly explain at least two ways that cultural influences may contribute to the development of sexual dysfunctions among women. (1 point) In our culture, we tend to give more masculine names to a man s penis and dirty sounding names to a woman s vagina. This contributes to women feeling uncomfortable and degraded. The male genitalia names mostly reference power, while names for women genitalia mostly have negative connotations. In Chinese culture, the vulva is referred to as something beautiful, such as a flower. Another influence to the development of sexual dysfunction among women is pornography. Some women tend to imitate what sexual workers in pornography do because it is a very large part of our culture. However, this leads to sexual displeasure for women and their partners. Imitating sexual pleasure leads to sexual disfunction. 3. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Define the term token resistance. Explain why token resistance may have negative consequences. A person suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder has the tendency to not think about those events and even supresses them (Lilienfeld et al., 2010). Despite this microscopic flaw, Reign Over Me is most likely the greatest movie representation of a person suffering from PTSD. In a chi squared test at the University of Liverpool of individuals with chronic posttraumatic stress disorder, findings revealed that men are likely to increase alcohol consumption as a result of a traumatic event (Z. Charlie s battle with chronic PTSD is a difficult journey as he drowns himself in music in order to prevent himself from thinking about the things which he fears most. Use Of Macabre Atmosphere In The Masque Of The Red Death Edgar Allan Poe created a macabre atmosphere in the short story The Masque of the Red Death that can be seen throughout the entire plot of the story. The story centers around the Red Death, a devastating disease that causes sharp pains, dizziness, and then profuse bleeding from the pores. This is the basis of the plot in the story, through which Edgar Allan Poecreates a macabre atmosphere. This in turn strengthens the theme of the story, which is that no one, no matter how hard they try, cannot escape death. In The Masque of the Red Death, the Red Death has long affected the fictional country in which the story takes place. While it briefly transforms their values and improves their lives, it ultimately leads to the protagonist s demise. The Queen of Spades by Alexander Pushkin (1834) and The Overcoat by Nikolai Gogol (1842) illustrate this in their respective main characters: Hermann and Akaky. Both Hermann and Akaky are economical men. Hermann is prudent with his inheritance from his father and does not gamble, as he is not in the position to sacrifice the necessary in the hopes of winning the superfluous (Pushkin 1). This feeling is due to his passion and ambition to earn the money to buy the coat, and is a significant improvement from Akaky s previously meaningless, lonely life. Furthermore, the aforementioned insecure and hesitant nature Akaky portrays such as his inability to speak complete sentences when speaking about difficult matters (Gogol 30) disappeared of themselves (Gogol 34) due to the confidence that came with the passion he has to earn the money for his coat. B.Improving Quality and Lowering Costs The payment incentives provided to healthcare providers under the PPACA will most likely lead to improved healthcare quality. In addition, reimbursement will shift from being based on quantity to being value based which will in turn incentivize providers to provide higher quality care. Although the Congressional Budget Office reported that the PPACA will reduce the U.S. budget deficit, it is doubtful and remains to be seen what will actually happen. Also, it is anticipated that businesses will pay the fines imposed by the PPACA because it will be cheaper than obtaining insurance coverage for the employees. C.Holding Insurance Companies Accountable A major pro of the PPACA is that it establishes several new rules and controls for insurance companies including requiring that they cannot deny coverage for pre existing conditions, must spend a certain percentage of premiums collected on actual patient care costs. These new rules provide protection for consumers and ensure insurance companies are held accountable for the care and services provided to patients that are enrolled in their plans. Another major issue that has raised considerable debate and even led to law suits being filed is the constitutionality of the PPACA. • 18. Outbreak, Causes, And Risks, Effects And Prevention Of The... An outbreak disease which is likely to be a potential disease in New Zealand is measles. This is a very contagious and deadly virus that has caused a huge amount of deaths during previous centuries. The main symptoms of this virus include a sore throat, fever, rashes and inflamed eyes. This disease is very hard to detect within two weeks of infection because you are not able to see clear signs or symptoms of measles. This outbreak, however, is not particularly new to New Zealand, as it has been previously seen here in the 1960s and but has started being witnessed in the upper north island and now occurring in the South Island. This essay will discuss, the outbreak, causes, and risks, impact and prevention of the measles virus. An outbreak is when the number of cases for a disease is suddenly more than the expected number of counts, with the outbreak occurring within a limited geographical area, for example, Auckland or Mt Roskill. This is similar to an epidemic, but the area that would be affected is different for the two. If the measles disease were to impact on a geographical location, infecting a large number of people in a small period, it would be labelled as an epidemic with the cases reported more than the expected count, but because an outbreak is limited to the particular geographical area, it is labelled an outbreak. The expected count of cases for the disease occurring could be identified looking at previous times in which the outbreak occurred. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 3rd Tuesdays With Morrie Super Summarizer: Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom (Week 4, pages 60 to 79) Title: The Third Tuesday, We Talk About Dependence Throughout pages 60 to 79 of Tuesdays with Morrie , the story touches upon the topics of trust, nostalgia (a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past), and affection; topics that require us to rely on something or someone and teach us the important of dependency. In the chapter The Second Tuesday , Morrie teaches his class about trust through an activity where We are to stand, facing away from our classmates, and fall back ward, replying on another student to catch us (Albom, 60). The moral of this activity is to teach us how and who to trust, as evident in the following passage. Sometimes you cannot believe what you see, you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too even when you re in the dark. Even when you re falling (61). The Recidivism Rate of Juvenile Sex Offenders between Uses of Legal Sentencing as Adults or Utilizing Psychological Treatment It is typically thought that sex offenders are the type of individual that needs to be tried in our courts and then sentenced because there is really no hope for an individual that harms the most innocent of our society. But there just may be an exception to this way of thinking. Juveniles who at one point themselves may have been victims, and as they have grown into adolescence not knowing why they are thinking the way they are, turn around and abuse others. • 26. Characteristics Of A Poorly Written Report As a police officer, the difference between a well written and poorly written report is massive. A poorly written report can leave out crucial points that will affect the outcome of each case. There are certain rules of writing when writing a report, that will change a poorly written report to a well written one. The first rule is writing in first person. An officer should always refer to themselves as I or me. Doing this will clearly identify you as being the person doing the investigation. It will look good to those reading your report, and also sound good to those who will hear your testimony. This will let the reader know that is was the officer that conducted the investigation writing the report and not a separate person recounting details and possibly missing facts. The second rule to writing is writing in the past tense. The events in the report have already happened, and therefore should be written in the past tense. By writing this way, you will develop consistency, therefore creating a report that is professional and easy to read. The third rule is to use an active voice in your report. This style of writing shows who is doing an action, instead of a passive voice which shows who is having something done to them. This will allow the officer to mention first who was doing the action before stating the action itself. The fourth rule in writing is to write in chronological order. Mexican American Literature is stories that writers talk about their ethnic identities through Chicano culture situations and characters. They are their own culture, who take traditions and customs from Mexico and American and make up their own history with it. They try to identify themselves with one culture or the other, the food, the customs, traditions and many other things. The boundaries that define a Chicano/a is that Chicanos live between two worlds, between two borders the American side and their Mexican side. In her mind she was justified to commit the murder of seven men as self defense. Next is psychodynamic, this psychological perspective caused a lot of problems for Aileen. In Aileen s childhood she faced excessive amounts of abuse at the hands of her grandparents. As well as abandonment by her mother and father at a very young age. These events made Aileen an angry and violent person that ended in her committing murder. Behaviorally, Aileen learned that violence was okay. She learned to disconnect herself from her body in order to cope with the bad things happening to her so that she did not have to feel them. She did not have a nurturing caregiver so she never learned how to treat others decently. This made Aileen believe it was okay to be treated poorly by others and to treat others bad herself. • 41. Charlemagne Or Charles The Great Charlemagne or Charles the Great, (747 814) was one of the most significant people during the Middle Ages, playing a key role in defining the shape and character of Medieval Europe. Considered the Father of Europe , Charlemagne reigned as King of the Franks (768 814) and became the first Holy Roman Emperor (800 814). He created a great empire as he dramatically expanded the Frankish Kingdom in a series of conquests that united most of Western Europe for the first time since the Roman Empire. He also introduced many governmental, cultural and economic reforms to further his great Carolingian Empire. Additionally the Emperor fostered the Carolingian renaissance, a time of great cultural and intellectual revival and reinforced the Christian foothold on Europe. Charlemagne s role in Medieval Europe was as a complete leader and emperor, one that effectively managed every aspect of his empire. As King of the Franks, Charlemagne played the role of a warrior king, constantly engaged in warfare and through his conquests he no longer ruled a Kingdom but a veritable empire. When the fall of the Roman Empire led to its dissolution in Western Europe, it caused a fragmented collection of Kingdoms. As Charlemagne united these fragments he needed to reconstruct the structures of a complex society and maintain unity within his realm, which was complicated by the differences between his people. Due to this, Charlemagne s role was as an effective administrator, and he instituted many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, Toys R Us are negligent for having only one employee in their safety assurance department who received approximately 4,000 certificates of this kind per month. It is about the story of how a group of extractors infiltrate the minds of their targets, extracting information and planting ideas, which is called inception. After watching this movie, I was deeply impressed by its careful designation, the precise logic of the scenarios, its method of narration, as well as its use of symbols through the plot. An effective storyteller always draws the audience s attention. The narrative structure reveals the theme of the contrast and comparison between real life and life in dreams, and the representative symbols in the movie. Some techniques are also to be appreciated. To analyze the narrative structure, the main plot should be introduced at the beginning. Dominick Cobb and Arthur are extractors who are able to create dream scenarios that seems to be the real world, and they are able to lead other people into the dream worlds that they build and invade their subconscious, thereby getting valuable information. In a corporate espionage attempt, Cobb and Arthur are commanded to steal Saito s business secret. While it would be untrue that there has never been a white terrorist in the modern era because there has, such as Timothy McVeigh, Eric Rudolph, and the Ted Kaczynski. Immigration Arguments For Immigration Immigration: An Argument for Loose Borders Immigration is not only beneficial to the United States, but is a vital component of what the country is made up of. The United States of America was founded on immigration several hundred years ago when individuals and their families left their home countries for various different reasons. Immigration is defined as the movement of people from one country into another, for residential rather than visiting purposes, which may be for a number of reasons, (QUOTE). Some of the reasons that people do immigrate to the United States are for economic, familial, personal, and social reasons. Many individuals come to this country to find a job, support their children or families, or provide better education for their children, among many other things. Regardless of the reason, Christians are called to have mercy and be compassionate toward immigrants as outlined in several different Biblical scriptures. Christians have a moral duty to look after the needs of their neighbors, and by allowing for more open borders, this can be accomplished. It is important to examine immigration from several different perspectives, especially from the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral is an important component to apply to any controversial topic because it causes one to see their worldview from four different perspectives: scripture, tradition, reason, and experience.
