It is expected that this product will generate cash flows for an indefinite period of time. The license
has an initial term of 5 years but by paying a nominal fee, Palmiero can renew the license indefinitely
for successive 5 year terms. What amount should be amortized for the year ended December 31, 2012?
1 . Alatorre should report the patent at $600,000 (net of $400,000 accumulated amortization) on the
balance sheet. The computation of accumulated amortization is as follows.
Amortization for 2005 and 2006 ($1,000,000/10) X 2 $200,000
2007 amortization: ($1,000,000 $200,000) ÷ (6 2) 200,000
Accumulated amortization, 12/31/07 $400,000
2. Alatorre should amortize the franchise over its estimated useful life.
Because it is uncertain that Alatorre will be able to retain the franchise at the end of 2015, it should be
amortized over 10 years. The amount of amortization on the franchise for the year ended December
31, 2007, is
$40,000: ($400,000/10).
3. These costs should be expensed as incurred. Therefore $275,000 of organization expense is reported
in income for 2007.
4. Because the license can be easily renewed (at nominal cost), it has an indefinite life. Thus, no
amortization will be recorded. The license will be tested for impairment in future periods.

Research Paper On Chicken Pox
Chickenpox is a contagious disease that is caused by the varicella zoster virus (or coming in contact
with someone with the virus). Chicken pox is mainly found to infect children because they stay in big
groups and have a lot of contact with each other. It is a problem because it causes many issues and
symptoms to certain individuals, the disease can be serious and deadly.
The main symptoms of Chicken Pox include experiencing extreme itchiness around your body, flu like
symptoms (stuffy nose, sneezing, etc.), rashes and blisters, sore throat, headaches, stomachaches and
pain around the spots. Chicken pox can be exceedingly contagious, and it will still be contagious until
all the symptoms are over. It can spread through saliva, coughing, sneezing, and ... Show more content

Although dying from chicken pox is very unlikely, a study showed that 20 people died from the
disease in Britain in 1 year. Also, every year there are around 5000 9000 cases of chicken pox and
around 100 deaths (caused by the Varicella Virus) in
America.
When the body has successfully defeated the virus, the virus will remain in the body in case of future
attacks from the same microorganism. After having chickenpox, it is unlikely to be infected by it
again. But the virus stays in your body after you re cured from the illness. After a chickenpox
infection, the virus will be inactive in the body, because if there are any future attacks by the same
virus, the body will recognize it and have an easier time destroying it. The immune system keeps the
virus inactive, but it is possible for the virus to reactivate and cause a similar form of the disease
called shingles, also referred to as herpes zoster.
If a pregnant woman gets infected with the varicella virus, the baby is going to get infected

Increase The Toughness Of Steels After Quenching Process
Abstract:
Tempering is an important heat treating process, which is used to increase the toughness of steels after
quenching process. Hollomon Jaffe equation H=T(c+log⁡
t ) is widely used to predict hardness with
different tempering temperature and tempering time. T is the tempering temperature, t is the tempering
time and c is the constant for the specific steel. The physical explanation of c constant was not clear.
In this paper, the hardness and c/a ratio of tempered martensite for AISI 4140 were measured by X
Ray Diffraction and Rietveld refinement. The result reveals that the c/a ratio decreases instantly within
the first 60s tempering time. After analysis based on the experiment results and derivation of
Hollomon Jaffe equation, c, the parameter in Hollomon Jaffe equation, is found to stand for the slope
of carbon hardness curve.
Key words: Tempering, martensite, X ray diffraction, Hollomon Jaffe equation
1. Introduction
All steels that are hardened are subjected to a subcritical heat treatment referred to as tempering .
Tempering improves the toughness of as quenched martensite (body center tetragonal) but lowers
strength and hardness 1, . The microstructure transformation is very complex: Stage1: The formation
of transition carbides and lowering of the carbon content of the martensite to 0.25% (100 to 250℃)
Stage2: The transformation of retained austenite to ferrite and cementite (200 to 300℃) Stage3: The
replacement of transition carbides and low temperature

A Brief Look at Shark Culling
Is shark culling okay given the number of shark attacks that have occurred? Recently it seems that the
number of shark attacks has increased with seven fatal attacks in the past 3 years in Western Australia
(WA). These recent attacks have led the WA Government being granted an exemption to start culling
sharks with a catch and kill shark program. A lot of people including scientists and surfers are against
this controversial decision. For people to make an informed decision they need to have an
understanding of where the shark fits into the marine ecosystem, as well as the reasons presented for
the use of shark culling and the arguments given that oppose such extreme measures.
The Shark s place in the marine ecosystem is as a predator at the top of the food chain as there is no
natural predator of sharks. Sharks are not very fastidious about what they eat but their diet generally
consists of seal, crab, squid, lobster and fish. If sharks were to become extinct there would be an
ecological cost. The marine life that is the shark s food source would start to overpopulate with
nothing to prey on it. One possible reason that sharks are coming closer to shores is that their natural
food source is diminishing due to overfishing by humans. To stop sharks from being too near to
popular swimming locations, fishermen need to expand or change their hunting areas.
One reason for culling sharks is that when there are sharks in populated areas, people s lives are in
danger therefore if

Public Law And Private Law
INTRODUCTION The subject of law encompasses a wide area and covers a variety of issues and
agenda. For the convenience of readers and learners of this subject, it is classified into various
categories. Civil Law and Criminal Law Public Law and Private Law Substantive Law and Procedural
Law Municipal Law and International Law The classification between Public Law and Private Law is
one of the most important classifications of law. Public Law in general terms has been defined as the
law of relations between the individual and state . Holland lays down the simplest test to determine
whether the case falls in public law or private law If one of the parties is state, the case falls in the
dimension of public law . However, with passing times and more complex issues arising, the scope of
public law is going much beyond the normal definition of state as one of the parties . The scope of
public law now also involves various other matters such as business regulation. Also, the scope of
public law varies from state to state and system to system. While a socialist economy will see private
law having a much stronger authority, this will not be the case in a capitalist or a mixed economy
state. Major components of Public Law are Constitutional Law Administrative Law Criminal Law
Private Law, on the other hand, deals with disputes between parties other than the State. The rights
violated under the ambit of the Private Law are the matter between the parties and

Nero The Great Empire
The name Nero is one of the most recognizable throughout history, widely regarded as the Great
Leader of the Roman Empire. His reforms impacted on the social, political and religious mechanisms
used in the Roman Empire for centuries to come. Nero consolidated his position within Rome through
many decisions which favored the people, enabling him to establish and maintain himself in the
position as Emperor. Nero has been known as the emperor who ultimately ended the Julio Claudian
dynasty and jeopardized Rome s authority, but through analyzing his work and achievements
throughout his rule, many historians raise the question that Nero in fact shaped the society we live in
currently and his actions in his time of power have had a chain effect throughout ... Show more

Until the year 59 A.D., Nero was described as a generous and reasonable leader. He eliminated capital
punishment, lowered taxes and allowed slaves to bring complaints against their masters (Tacitus, 109
A.C.E.). Nero supported the arts and athletics above gladiator entertainment, and gave aid to other
cities in crisis. Although he was known for his nighttime frolicking, his actions were good natured,
albeit irresponsible and self indulgent. Although Nero was a supportive man and contributed many
assets to his empire, after his mother s death, Nero fell into a hedonic lifestyle that was full of tyranny.
He spent exorbitant amounts of money on artistic pursuits and began public performances as a poet
and lyre player, a significant breach of etiquette for a member of the ruling class (Pamela B, 1990).
Nero s attitude at this time ultimately demonstrated that he was an unstable emperor, and his rain of

The staffs of therapeutic communities mainly consist of former addicts and abusers, they know what
the addicts are going through and can knowledgeably help them through the struggle. There is a high
success rate for patients who do not stick with the program.
Chemical decency residential programs are a combination of hospitalization and a therapeutic
community. The programs are usually three to eight weeks in length and they are counseled by
recovering alcoholics with little formal training. These private pay programs are the most common
form of residential treatment although they are now reduced in number.
Medical assisted treatment is not nearly as popular as residential treatment, but it is beginning to play
a more important role in outpatient recovery. When using medication to aid recovery there are three
basic approaches to take: antagonism, substitution, or the use of a drug that is medically incompatible.
Antagonism requires total a blockage of the abused drug, while substitution allows the use of another
drug to reduce the craving for the abused drug. Giving an addict a drug that is medically incompatible
with the abused drug will cause them to become sick any time that they use the abused drug. Crisis
clinics are a form of outpatient help, they range from telephone hotlines, to emergency associated
clinics, to crash pads. Community mental health

Essay about Oscar Wilde s An Ideal Husband
Oscar Wilde s An Ideal Husband
Oscar Wilde (1845 1903) lived an outrageous and controversial life which was well publicized and
condemned, as his life defied the strict social mores of the time. He was put into this public position
due to the success of his plays which challenged Victorian earnestness while being hilariously funny.
His plays, in particular An Ideal Husband, 1895 portray Victorian society as viciously hypocritical at it
s worst and laughably pretentious at it s best. Wilde expressed this point of view in An Ideal Husband
through the rich use of plot development, construction of characters, dramatic irony, hyperbole, witty
and epigrammatic repartee and satire.
The central plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience assumes that people in the real world as lucky and benevolent as this are so becuase they
worked hard and are earnest. By creating a character like this who took the easy money and built a
marriage and friendships around lies, wilde has challenged the earnestness of the many victorian
people because there were many poeple in a social position like robert s who may have done a similar
thing to get there.
In An Ideal Husband Wilde presents a view (the least flattering view presented in the play)that
victorian society is viciously hypocritical. This is acheived through the characterisation of Lady
Gertrude chiltern, as her ridiculously high morals (an important factor of earnestness) almost cost her
her marriage. she demanded to be told if robert had done some shameful thing, in which case they
would separate. This irony shows the hypocrisy of being too earnest.
Morality is an important factor of earnestness which is mocked in An Ideal Husband by the dialogue
of the play, especially the characterised dialogue of Mrs. Chevely. Through her dialogue Morality is
simply the attitude we adopt towards people whom we personally dislike. , wilde, through Mrs.

The Vulnerability of Children in the Era of the Holocaust
Children were especially vulnerable in the era of the Holocaust. The Nazis advocated killing children
of unwanted or dangerous groups in accordance with their ideological views, either as part of the
racial struggle or as a measure of preventative security. The Germans and their collaborators killed
children both for these ideological reasons and in retaliation for real or alleged partisan attacks.
The Germans and their collaborators killed as many as 1.5 million children, including over a million
Jewish children and tens of thousands of Romani (Gypsy) children, German children with physical
and mental disabilities living in institutions, Polish children, and children residing in the occupied
Soviet Union. The chances for survival for Jewish and some non Jewish adolescents (13 18 years old)
were greater, as they could be deployed at forced labor.
The fate of Jewish and non Jewish children can be categorized in the following way: 1) children killed
when they arrived in killing centers; 2) children killed immediately after birth or in institutions; 3)
children born in ghettos and camps who survived because prisoners hid them; 4) children, usually over
age 12, who were used as laborers and as subjects of medical experiments; and 5) those children killed
during reprisal operations or so called anti partisan operations.
In the ghettos, Jewish children died from starvation and exposure as well as lack of adequate clothing
and shelter. The German authorities were

arteriole and flows into the glomerulus where filterable blood components such as water and
nitrogenous waste will move toward the inside of the glomerulus, and nonfilterable components such
as cells will exit through the efferent arteriole. The filterable components accumulate in the
glomerulus to form the glomerular filtrate. 2) Reabsorption: Molecules and ions will be absorbed back
in the circulatory system. What remains in the glomerulus after this process is known as the tubular
fluid and this is what will pass through to the collecting duct to form urine. 3) Secretion: Substances
such as hydrogen ions, creatinine, and drugs will be removed from the blood through the peritubular

She Wept She Railed Poem
She Wept, She Railed
She Wept, She Railed by Stanley Kunitz is a poem that focuses on woman and violence. Kunitz details
the way women are treated by men in the 1st and 2nd stanza and then provides examples of powerful
women in history where violence was a major component of their life. The last stanza describes a
sexual experience with one of his past partners. The 1st stanza Kunitz discusses the cruelty that men
bestow upon women and the reaction of women. The woman that is weeping and railing is being
forced into sexual actions. The meat Men toss into a muslin cage is referring to a penis hidden by
cloth. To make their spineless doxy bleat refers to men engaging in rough sexual activity with a doxy
or promiscuous woman. Bleat means to scream and rail, the man that is forcing this woman into
sexual activity has caused other woman to scream in pain. The entire 1st stanza is characterizing men
as harsh forcing women into sexual activity. The 2nd stanza emphasizes the idea of virginity. The

1970s Communism Research Paper
During the 1970s communism started to gain popularity among Asian countries, for instance in
Vietnam and Cambodia. The communist party in Cambodia led by Pol Pot, the Kampuchea People
Revolutionary Party, started underground and slowly rose to power. The KPRP, was the most
prominent communist party at that time. This is because the ex ruler Sihanouk supported it. In the
beginning of its rule the KPRP was accepting of the monks and even Chantou Boua, a woman who
was in Cambodia during the civil war period of 1970 1975, stated that it was not entirely clear what
the Khmers policy was towards Buddhism . However, this was during a time before the Khmer Rouge

This source is somewhat reliable because it was an extract of a government file. However, during this
time the government was corrupt and therefore that eliminates some of its reliability. Despite this
though, historians are aware of the fact that the Khmer Rouge were trying to indoctrinate the youth in
order to gain more control over the population and create a new generation that supports them.
Therefore, we are able to assume that this information is reliable. Also, it is a known fact that in 1974,
the Khmer Rouge established reeducation centers that held around two hundred monks in order to,
among other things, dissuade them from escaping. The Khmer Rouge also employed other tactics in
order to keep the monks in Cambodia. Another account recorded by Harris was that of a man called
Ven. Nhem Kim Teng. His account illustrates why there were a minimal amount of escape attempts in
the early stages of the war. In 1974, many monks were becoming more apprehensive of the situation
that was developing in Cambodia. There were a lot more war machines and more distaste towards the
Buddhist monks. A lot of them wanted to go to Kampuchea Krom but didn t because of the fear that

Small Pox History
Smallpox was once one of the most severe infectious diseases that was endemic throughout the world
for most of the recorded history. It is caused by variola virus (a DNA virus and a member of the
Poxviridae family), and characterized by three phases: incubation, prodrome and rash. This disease
killed and disfigured innumerable millions of people globally.
The origin of smallpox
The historians believe that smallpox appeared around 10 000 B.C. during the first agricultural
settlements in northeastern Africa. From there it spread to India by means of ancient Egyptian
merchants. Furthermore, observations of typical skin rashes on Egyptian mummies dating from 1100
to 1580 B.C. give credence to theories that ancient Egypt was an early region with endemic smallpox.

It is estimated that smallpox was introduced to Europe between the 5th and 7th centuries, with
frequent epidemics during the Middle Ages.
The disease was generally confined to the Eurasian landmass before the 15th century; however,
European colonists introduced smallpox to the Americas (but also Africa and Australia) between 15th
and 18th century with devastating case fatality rates that approached 90%. It is generally believed that
this was instrumental in the fall of the empires of the Aztecs and the Incas.
By the end of 19th century a milder and less lethal form of smallpox (also known as variola minor)
became apparent in the USA. Originally described as Amass (alastrim in South America), this variant
of the virus eventually got recognized in Brazil during the 1970s, as well as in Ethiopia and Somalia
during the 1970s.

A Study On Nazi Medical Experiments
The chapter on Nazi medical experiments in Chalmers book is one of the most fascinating chapters
because it examines the different types of techniques that the Nazi s used to sterilize men and women.
Chalmers explains that women were particularly subject to medical experiments because the Nazis
were obsessed with destroying inferior races and wanted to perfect the art of sterilization so no more
undesirable elements would be born (Ibid 123). However, both men and women were subject to Nazi
medical experiments like medical injections, X Rays, and chemicals, which resulted in burnt skin,
abnormalities, and death. Among these experimentations many chemical companies, doctors, and

This section of Chalmers book makes the reader ponder the morality of medical experiments like
abortions, stem cell research, and infanticide in the world today and questions whether we have
learned from Nazi medical experiments in the past.
The second section of Beverly Chalmers book, Birth, Sex and Abuse, deals with sexuality among
Germans and sexual abuse among Jewish women. Chalmers provides interesting information on how
the Nazi s banned homosexuality, birth control, and feminist organizations (Ibid 145). Chalmers
outlines that the goals of the Nazi party by repressing sexuality like homosexuals and feminist
movements was to promote pronatalist policies like reproduction so women could bear more children
for the superior Aryan race. Chalmers extensive study of brothels in concentration camps interested
me because I did not realize the SS allowed prostitution inside concentration camps and the majority
of these women were Germans because Jewish women were not allowed to be prostitutes due to the
Rassenschande laws. Chalmers study of German women in brothels broadens the traditional study of
the Holocaust because rather than always focusing on non German women s experiences it allows
people that study the Holocaust to examine how German women were affected by the Holocaust in

Forensic Pros
In the event that any firearm is discovered at a crime scene there are certain steps that need to be done
in order to properly collect any type of firearm evidence. If there is any kind of firearm found at the
scene it should be rendered safe immediately. For safety is the first priority at any crime scene.
Forensic technicians should assign an evidence number to the firearm, photograph orientation and
close up view s, and take measurements of the firearm s location prior to collecting it. In order to
deem a semiautomatic pistol safe, the forensic technician should be wearing latex gloves an unload the
weapon as follows; (Tina Young, 2011)
1. Grasp the pistol at the grip pointing the pistol downward and away from people.
2. Avoid contact with smooth surfaces that may contain latent fingerprints.
3. Press the magazine release button to dislodge the magazine. Place the magazine inside a paper bag

author, Rebecca Grand, uses many different literary devices such as irony to surprise the audience.
The first type of irony type of irony the author uses in Labyrinth is dramatic. Dramatic irony is the
type of irony where the audience knows what is going to happen but the characters don t. One
example of dramatic irony is when Jareth, the Goblin king, tells Hoggle that if Sarah kissed him that
he would become the king of stink. This is dramatic irony because Sarah didn t know about what
Jareth said but the audience is aware. Another example, of dramatic irony is when Jareth s goblin army
is coming to attack Sarah and her friends. This is dramatic irony because of the knew the goblin army
was coming but Sarah and her friends didn t. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Situational irony involves a discrepancy between what is expected to happen and what actually
happens. One of the best examples of situational irony is when Jareth said to Hoggle don t lose your
head right before Sarah entered the forest with the fiery creatures, because the audience expects the
fiery creatures to take off Hoggles head but they actually try to take Sarah s head. In addition, another
example of situational irony is when Jareth gives Sarah another chance to get her brother back. This is
an example of situational irony because the audience expects Jareth to take the baby and be done but
he allows Sarah a chance to reclaim her

The World is Flat -Chapters 7 8 Essay example
The Right Stuff
Constant change and a flat, global competitive market landscape were described by Thomas Friedman,
author of The World is Flat, as triple convergence and was a result of the ten flatteners. Friedman also
stated that in Globalization 1.0, countries had to think globally. In Globalization 2.0, companies had to
think globally to thrive, or at least survive. In Globalization 3.0, individuals have to think globally to
thrive, or at least survive. (Friedman, 2007) The concept of needing individuals to think globally and
thrive in the market led Friedman to travel and report on various educational cultures across the world.

The first ability required in the right stuff is learning how to learn. Friedman discussed the ability to
learn as constant absorption, and self teaching techniques that manifest crystallized intelligence and
enhance the ability of the individual to new innovation. (Friedman, 2007) Life learning is essential to
being competitive individually in the new flat world. Individuals that love learning and are motivated
to search for data or self learn will be stewards of their own compounding education. (Friedman,
2007)
Navigation, is the second required critical skill set outlined by Friedman s right stuff theory.
Information sourcing is readily available on the web. As internet availability has increased social
thinking that the source of data that flattens the world is credible and factual. However, students and
individuals need to remember that filtering of open source information is critical to understanding the
difference between information, facts and wisdom. (Friedman, 2007) The youth of the future will need
to be able to discern the difference between information and carry forward credible information and
spin it into a new innovation.
Passion and curiosity is a third ability or personality quotient of the right stuff noted by Friedman is
created by culture and an individual s innate desire to improve or self actualize. Passion and the

Using David Kolb s Model Of Experimental Learning
Recently I have participated in the continuous improvement project at my work to improve
productivity and to recreate a process. The name of the project was Kaizen 2016. The Japanese term
KAI and ZEN literally mean to change and for the better and it has come to symbolize continuous
improvement. I am trying to put this whole project together by using David Kolb s model of
experimental learning. 1. Concrete Experience The main goal of the project was to increase
productivity by decreasing the time being wasted. The manager, who took all the responsibility of the
project and five team members were part of the team. There was a project sponsor, who guided us and
projected our ideas. This project started on August 9th, 2016. In the first meeting, we all sat in the
conference room together. Not a sound came from any of us. Finally, after several minutes, what I felt
like an hour, I simply had to say something. I asked, Why do we need to change the process? One
member of the team, said, We need to change it because I think we are wasting too much time on other
things. Another person, a senior woman, said, I don t think so we need to change the process. I am
comfortable with the current one. Others laughed. I thought to myself: I didn t want to be in a group
with people who didn t take the project matter seriously. When the meeting ended, my perceptions of
the group had somehow changed. Maybe this was a good group to be in after all. Some members had
similar interests

Mengzi s Arguments On Moral Principles
Moral principles generally shape a person s character. Such principles ultimately influence the way a
person makes decisions, and may become the foundation that people pattern their lives after. However,
in Chinese philosophy there exists a difference of opinion of moral principles. One by the name of
Mozi advocates impartiality and condems partiality. He expresses that everyone should benefit
everyone equally. Although this may seem benevolent, the very idea is impractical. Mozi s point of
view is rather progressive and future driven, due to the fact equal treatment for everyone has never
happened historically and quite frankly, may not ever happen. In correspondence, Mengzi indicates
that one s first and strongest love, is love for one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, every human contains a sense of partiality within their character by nature; whether
they are deemed partial or impartial in character. Humans are the most selfish species alive due to the
fact that every decision is ultimately made for oneself; whether it appears to be for others or not. Due
to further circumstances, consequences or just by one s innate impulses, humans ultimately make
decisions in light of such elements. However, that doesn t mean that great harm can t arise from such
decisions, nor does such a trait categorize someone as partial due to the fact that one places
preferential treatment towards oneself. For those that hate and steal may possibly commit such actions
for a specific purpose. Not only that, but that same person may be impartial, one cannot be for certain
who is impartial and who isn t due to the fact that no one can ultimately make that judgment for the
entire society but only for oneself. Humans make out what their truth is and what they believe a

SNAP Benefits
SNAP benefits in New Mexico
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a program for food and nutrition
assistance in the form of food stamps to New Mexicans. Whereas the program is intended to ensure
food security, it is highly flawed due to its ineffectiveness. There is a lot of mismanagement of the
SNAP benefits such that the quality of their services is normally very poor. Moreover, most of the
people who rightfully qualify for the benefits do not access them whereas the less qualified ones get
access to the benefits through means that are not transparent. The SNAP benefits in New Mexico
require to be reformed because they have so many flaws (Rector Bradley, 2012).
Introduction.
First, the SNAP benefits are very ineffective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to reports obtained from the Government Accountability Office, the amount of SNAP
benefits paid in error is substantial, totaling about $2.2 billion in 2009 (SNAP/Food Stamp
Participation Data). This was according to figures tallied in 2009. The error margin has grown since
then and in 2015 the program is incurring errors worth almost double that amount. Moreover, the top
officials that manage these programs are very fraudulent. This is evidenced by the fact that the highest
beneficiaries are not the most eligible, but the best connected. The program has become more of a
scam to benefit the people that are well connected to the management. The fraud and errors that have
marred SNAP benefits programs are not only costing the taxpayers too much money, but also
mismanaging it.
The third flaw of SNAPP benefits is that they lack transparency. The programs do not disclose the
value or particulars of the products they purchase. Moreover, they do not even disclose the amount
that retailers make from trading with SNAP. This increases the challenges associated with the need for
investigative research that would have otherwise identified the fraud and errors involved. The fact that
the programs do not reveal the details of their business deals whereas they are public entities raises
issues of transparency (Maass,

The Destructors Literary Analysis

Literary Fiction in The Destructors After reviewing the distinguishing characteristics of literary and
commercial fiction, it is clear that the short story, The Destructors, is more of a literary work of fiction
rather than that of a commercial fiction. Literary fiction does not focus solely on the reader s
satisfactory, but instead the enhanced understanding of life that a reader may attain from the insight
that a literary story provides. A literary fiction also plunges us more deeply into the real world
enabling us to understand life s difficulties and to emphasize with others (Johnson, Arp 57).
Commercial fiction however, is intended solely to entertain (Johnson, Arp 57), ... Show more content

This is important in relation to the time period the story takes place. The Destructors is set after World
War ll in London, England, also known as Blitzed London , when homes were ravaged from the
bombings of the war. Knowing this information, it is apparent that Greene attempts to show how the
gang s actions were determined by their surroundings, their need to damage things decided by the
blitzed homes that they saw everyday. The plan to deface Old Misery s home was an example of
literary fiction because it contributes a better understanding of how the world was affected post war
and allows readers to emphasize with the characters in the story. Another example of literary fiction in
The Destructors is at the end of the story, when it takes an unexpected turn. This is when a driver sees
the carnage of the house and finds Mr. Thomas, and begins to laugh. This shows literary fiction
because a reader can infer the reason why the passerbyer thought this was funny, which was because
of how ironic it was that the house itself could withstand the bombings from the war, but in the end,
was destroyed by a group of teenage boys. The example shows this because a literary fiction story
requires a reader to expect the unexpected, often resulting in a unsettling or unresolved ending
(Johnson, Arp 61), The story has many varying characteristics which make it a literary

Analysis Of The Article The Other Hand
In the other hand, the article argues about software that,
Licensing fees are a significant disadvantage of Windows, as they are based on the number of users.
Windows licenses (Server plus Exchange) cost around $100 per user. Mac server, by contrast, allows
unlimited numbers of users on a single license, and the license comes free with the server.
Windows workstations can be connected to Mac servers, so using a Mac server could considerably
reduce both licensing and administration costs. UNIX and Linux licenses are free, as is much of the
applications software.
The table below, from Prince McLean at Apple Insider, demonstrates acquisition cost savings of
$25,489, or around 85%, by using a Mac OS server instead of Windows. That s for 100 users. For the
10 and 25 user options in the table, using SBS would cut the Windows licensing costs by nearly half,
but Mac OS still comes in way ahead.

My Observation At The Mall Center Mall
For my observation, I decided to go the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton, Florida to observe the
advertisements that are present in our community. I went to the mall to conduct research because I
need to make a purchase for a vacation, so I thought this was the perfect place to go. Each store I
walked into, there were advertisements for instant savings, but the further I walked into any store, the
prices climbed higher. Truthfully, I was shocked by the amount of people who did not care that they
were being bamboozled. Initially, we were told at the front of the store that there were discounts, but
we had to find out on our own that the prices raised exponentially. This was the exact reason why I

conquered the skill of persuasion and have mastered how to make the audience feel a connection to

The Role Of Prince Henry In The Movie Ever After
The Prince figure in all of the fairy tales has to deal with an enormous amount of pressure and
expectations throughout his life as an upcoming leader . Prince Henry s father, who is the king,
expects a great deal from him and creates the vast majority of the pressure the young prince is under.
These stressors have had a large impact on him and as a result the prince behaves in such a way as to
show rebellion from his father and his responsibilities to his kingdom. There are many instances
throughout the film that Prince Henry goes against his expectations, which is very difficult when his
whole life he has been taught he has certain duties to uphold. However it is obvious that this had a
huge effect on him and his young life. Although the life of a prince seems to be easy and carefree on
the outside, Henry is hesitant to take on the role as king due to the expectations and pressure that have
been put on him throughout his life by his father and the rest of the kingdom. In the film Ever After,
Danielle who is played by Drew Barrymore is a young girl who lost both of her parents and is stuck
living with her evil stepmother and stepsisters and is forced to become their maid. She is doing her
chores when she meets the young prince Henry played by Dougray Scott. Despite his seemingly easy
life as royalty, the two meet while he is trying to run away from his castle and father who is trying to

The Need for Groundwater Extraction Regulation
Groundwater is used primarily for irrigating farmland; and secondarily, for consumption and industrial
use. Aquifers, unconsolidated subterranean layers which hold water, are rapidly dwindling, and
groundwater depletion is quickly growing to become a major problem for farmers and the public at
large. Reserves close to ground level are rapidly drying up and due to technological roadblocks,
extracting water from deeper reserves is not yet financially feasible. The problem is especially severe
in California, which represents around 20% of all groundwater withdrawal in the United States
(Famiglietti, LA Times). A lack of water for agriculture would directly lead to diminished food
production and indirectly lead to requiring food imports from outside the state. Groundwater resources
are an unregulated public resource and despite any innovative breakthrough in extraction techniques,
the only sustainable, long term solution is to enforce limits on extraction. Regulation of how much
groundwater can be extracted from an aquifer in a set period of time; along with incentives to obtain
water from alternative sources is the ideal solution to address the perennially growing challenge of
groundwater depletion in California.
This regulatory effort must begin in politics but it needs to spread to society as well only when people
realize the consequences of over extraction will they even consider ceasing doing so. This solution is
not based primarily in science and technology, and is

The Pros And Cons Of Contract Contracts
Formed contracts usually consist exclusion or exemption clauses limiting the liability of party/parties
for contractual breach. These clauses aim at excluding the legal responsibilities of the parties for
particular types of injuries, losses/damages sustained by the other party. However, the courts had made
distinction between exclusion and limitation clauses limiting the amount of compensation for
contractual breaches. Traditionally, the courts do not assess the exclusion clauses on merit grounds, to
avoid contradicting the general idea of freedom of contract . Hence the courts, in order to supervise
and for better use of these clauses; developed common law rules addressing incorporation and
construction. Additionally, the governmental developed statutory regulations, Unfair Contract Terms

However, if the clause is put forward after the contract, then it cannot be incorporated as seen in the
cases of Olley v Marlbourough Court Hotel; and Thornton v Shoe Lane Parking. Incorporation can
also be done by a course of previous dealings as the parties are fully aware of the terms and clauses
that could form the part of the contract. Regularity and consistency in dealings is crucial, evident in
the cases of McCutcheon v MacBrayne; and Hollier v Rambler Motors; where exclusion clause could
not be incorporated due to a non consistent course of conduct. In cases of onerous or unusual clauses,
more efforts must be made to draw the attention of the party. Considering present case facts closely, it
is established that the exclusion clause was incorporated into the contract through previous dealings as

Industrial Issues In The Jungle, By Upton Sinclair
After reading the book The Jungle by Upton Sinclair it is apparent to me that even though the book
was written many years ago the issues are still relevant to this day. Sinclair raises a few issues in his
novel such as the harsh working conditions in the United States and the unsafe and unhealthy practices
in the industrial businesses. During the early 20th century the industrial movement was causing much
pain and death to the working class. Some if these issues are relatable in today s age and will be

lives of immigrant workers in the United States. Sinclair talks about the meat packing industry and

Impact Of Charles Lindbergh In The 1920s
The 1920s was a decade of drastic change in the United States, with many new conflicts, leisure
activities, and heroes to worship (Nash 374). Charles Lindbergh was one of these heroes. Born in
1902, he was trained in aviation and worked as an airmail pilot (Bishop). Later, he made history by
becoming the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean alone (Nash 388). On May twenty first,
1927, Lindbergh traveled from New York to Le Bourget field in Paris in his plane, the Spirit of St.
Louis (James). He designed this plane himself, working to make it as small and lightweight as
possible (Kessner Charles Lindbergh, A New Hero ). Known as the lone eagle , Lindbergh became one
of the biggest celebrities of the era (Chamberlain). His flight caused more excitement than any other
event of its time (Nash 388). Approximately 25,000 people were at Le Bourget field to watch
Lindbergh land (James). Upon returning to the United States, there were numerous parades and
dinners to honor his achievement ( Lindbergh Visit Ends ). Charles Lindbergh was the most influential
hero to emerge from the 1920s, making an impact by transforming aviation, as well as acting as a role
model for the American public and encouraging a return to the old way of American life. Through his

Ethical Dilemmas And Moral Courage
Abstract In today s healthcare environment nurses are faced with increasingly intricate ethical
dilemmas. We encounter these dilemmas in situations where our ability to do the right thing is
continuously delayed by conflicting values and beliefs of other healthcare providers. There are many
nurses who face these ethical issues head on and others who put it aside. Keeping our commitment to
patients requires moral courage. Moral courage aids us in addressing ethical issues and making the
correct decision when it is being contradicted. It involves the willingness to speak out and do what is
right in the face of forces that would lead us to act in an unethical way. Nurses who have moral
courage and advocate in the best interest of the client may have to endure adverse outcomes. It is
important that nurses begin to create a work environment in which moral courage is supported. Nurses
in all types of settings face ethical dilemmas. An ethical dilemma is a complex situation that often
involves an apparent mental conflict between moral imperatives, in which to obey one would result in
transgressing another. Having moral courage as a nurse in the healthcare environment is very
important. A nurse who presents moral courage stands up to ethical issues that may affect the client
and even themselves. As nurses it is our responsibility to put our patient first, and that includes
fighting for what is right and not being put in situations in which our ability to provide care

The Power Of Picture Books In Integrating Literature In...
Columba, Kim, and Moe (2009) in The Power of Picture Books in Teaching Math, Science, and Social

teach the content areas. Using literature humanizes math, science, and social studies for children and

confidence (Columba et al., 2009). Additionally, it enables the teaching of content from multiple
perspectives, motivating students to discover the love of learning from challenging sources (Kane,

necessary for employment. By teaching effective literacy strategies in content area learning, teachers

The Importance Of The Police And Criminal Evidence Act 1984
Safety is a fundamental right that we all deserve. Most of us rely on the government to provide this
security. We pay for this through taxes, but the question that we must ask ourselves is are we getting
what we are paying for? By paying our taxes to the government we are giving it the authority to
choose the service we are getting back. The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) is an Act
of Parliament which instituted a legislative framework for the powers of police officers in England
and Wales to combat crime, as well as providing codes of practice for the exercise of those powers.
PACE sets out to strike the right balance between the powers of the police and the rights and freedoms
of the public. Maintaining that balance is a central element of PACE. These powers have been given to
the police to insure our safety however how much power the police really hold is limited by the
PACE, the police must carry out their duty without breaching the rights of individuals. the question of
whether or not these rights should be abolished is a debatable one.
The police stop and search power first came about in 1984 the aim of this act was to protect the rights
of the public from the misconduct of police officers. some may argue that they are still not protected
by this act.Scottish ministers are under renewed pressure to abolish controversial police stop and
search powers, after United Nations human rights experts said they were potentially breaching
international law.

calling for change in the computing curriculum by putting more emphasis in the computer
programming, and it has received a lot of support from business and non profit organization and
public figures including the American President Barak Obama who gave speech on 12/8/2013 calling
for support from the public for these changes.
However, despite this remarkable recognition of the need for teaching programming in schools, the
subject is still very controversial. While some people argue that we might not be ready yet

Recall our stochastic dierential equation to model stock prices:
dS = σ dX + µ dt S where µ is known as the asset s drift , a measure of the average rate of growth of
the asset price, σ is the volatility of the stock, it measures the standard deviation of an asset s returns,

dX is a random sample drawn from a normal distribution with mean zero.

Nazi Germany Negatives
There were Positive and Negative effects of Nazi rule of the people in Germany from 1933 1939,
before Hitler got into power of Germany, Germany was controlled by Paul Von Hindenburg. The
Treaty of Versailles and the Great Depression meant that life in Germany was bad; The Treaty of
Versailles meant that Hitler was basically the blame for the war and his army had to be reduced and
the Great Depression meant that people lost their job; people had no food or money and the people
that lost their Jobs had to go overseas to find another Job which meant that they were not with their

The Treaty of Versailles and its harsh conditions made the Weimar republic weaker to the average

Problem of Evil essay
Although it could be argued that an omnipotent omniscient and omnibenevolent deity could exist
along with evil. It is in fact not reasonable to believe so. I will prove that it is unreasonable to believe
a god with these attributes like this can exist accompanying evil. In order to give a valid argument ill
look at each component, omniscience, omnipotence and Omni benevolence and break those down
leading to the conclusion that a being such as this cannot coexist with evil. I will look at the arguments
given for why god wouldn t exist as well as some of the points that may be used by others to combat
them. To make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this situation there are two options for someone to take, first reject one of the main premises that
god is not omniscient or that such a being exists in the first place. Refusing to believe she exists of
course is the least likely option for those who are religious. Classical theists would disagree with both
of these things because to give up one of the three big aspects of god goes against their faith entirely.
Some may accept that god is not omniscient and others may argue that free will in a situation like this.
This is completely aside from just natural evils that occur these are the evils that humans bring to the
world. However if god already knew what was going to happen and we supposedly have free will it
cannot be used as argument since it can be questioned if you can have free will if everything is
determined. Now it is fair to say that an all knowing god does exist and with all his vast knowledge
could not create a world without evil nor rid the world of evil after it came. This clues into the next
point of her omnipotence. With that said, it is irrational to think that this omniscient deity exists.
In challenging the existence of the whole being must be looked into, each part of an Omni god
omnipotence, omniscience and Omni benevolence are very closely related to each other. Naturally it

Analysis Of Laura Mulvey s Film, Visual Pleasure And...
Katlyn Riggins
WGST 343: 500
Fall 2015
Topic Number 4
Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura Mulvey
takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. Mulvey
references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of erotic
spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look, and plays
to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to examine
different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present. Furthermore, it is
appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to their unique
interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it will consider
Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers, Karyn Kusama and
Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with comparing and
contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will address how any
filmmaker may object the male gaze.
Within the film Girlfight, director Karyn Kusama presents the audience with a strong female
protagonist. Actor Michelle Rodriguez debuts her career portraying the lead role of Diana and gives
the audience a unique interpretation of the character. We first see the heroine, through a crowd of
teenagers walking

Survival Cannibalism In Anthropology
The anthropologist is the act or practice of humans or other species eating organs or the flesh of their
own kind. Cannibalism has been a part of the human culture for so long and resurfacing in the recent
decades. Cannibalism has been reportedly practiced by many different cultures in all continents on
earth. Each of them has separate reasons to why they practiced it. It could be from psychosexual
impulses, relief from stress or they just want to eat humans as food no more no less.
There are many variations on human cannibalism, but the main three are survival cannibalism,
endocannibalism and exocannibalism. Survival cannibalism is the practice of human beings eating
other human beings as a necessity in order to survive. This type of practice

Cnidarian Hydra Research Paper
For years it has been speculated how specific invertebrates are able to regenerate severed limbs or
body parts. The objective of this paper is to explain why and how hydras are able to do this but
humans are still not able to achieve this dynamic bio medical advantage. Cnidarian H. vulgaris, which
are more commonly known as Hydra, are fresh water animals of the phylum Cnidarian. The
significance of this information is we can observe how these organisms regenerate their limbs. Then
establish if we can use the hydra regenerative way in mammals such as humans. This would allow for
an array of complications to be resolved including aiding individuals that may have lost a limb such as
finger, arm, or leg. Another problem that could be solved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Alvarado and Panagiotis, these polarity cues are relayed and ensue three activations that
will occur. The three activations are tissues remodeling, activation and proliferation of stem cells, and
dedifferentiation or trans differentiation of cells seen in figure 2 from Alvarado. Tissue remodeling is
simply how the endoderm and ectoderm arrange in relation to each other to create the two layers of
epithelium. The stem cell proliferation and the dedifferentiation or trans differentiation of the cells will
transpire adjacent to the area where the amputation took place (Alvarado, 2006). As mentioned by
Mills and Owens, trans differentiation is the conversion of the differentiated cell of one lineage to that
of another cell lineage. Mills and Owens also said that dedifferentiation is when a cell will reverse its
differentiated fate and will now go back and establish previous properties during its development as a
cell. This means the cell may return to a state of a stem cell that it passed through. The dedifferentiated
cells can be reverted back and into a different cell lineage also by acquiring capacity for multipotency

Spasmodic Dysphonia Essay
How can our daily lives be if we only whispered? What about having a breathy or strained voice? For
many, these questions do not come across when communicating. Yet, several do not realize the
different types of voice problems that individuals have. Day by day numerous people are being
diagnosed with Spasmodic Dysphonia. The majority do not understand what it is or how it can be
treated. Researchers have begun conducting studies to identify brainstem functions with patients with
Spasmodic Dysphonia, determine the risks, and develop the best recovery treatment for this disorder.
In 1989, an organization was founded in order to provide advanced research and decrease the

have research the main priorities that healthcare professionals should take into consideration when
working with spasmodic dysphonia patients. It is highly encouraged for clinicians and researchers to
group as a team in order to better find results on how to treat and prevent spasmodic dysphonia.
Throughout numerous of studies it has been shown that spasmodic dysphonia is characterized as a
neurological disorder that belongs to the group of dystonia. Therefore, a current study tried to oversee
if there s a comparison between spasmodic dysphonia and focal dystonia. Dystonia can affect the
individuals whole or partial part of the body such as limbs, cervical, cranial upper muscle (Ludlow,
Adler, Berke, etc., 2008, 499). The majority of the times muscle spasms occur involuntary in the
larynx causing the voice to break or sound tight, breathy, or whispery. Spasmodic dysphonia has a
combination of abnormal sensory feedback and abnormal interpretation of the sensations from the
larynx to the brain causing irregular movement towards the laryngeal area. In order to begin to
evaluate the patient for a voice disorder the otolaryngologists must do a screen questionnaire, follow
by a speech examination and last conduct a nasolarynscopy (Ludlow, Adler, Berke, etc., 2008, 495). In
order for an ENT to differentiate hyperadduction SD vs hyperabduction SD a voice test must be
conducted such as having the patient repeat sentences, words, or phonemes. Once the ENT has
determined what type of SD and the severity of the disorder. Then the patient will be referred to a
specialist for treatment and after be send to a speech language pathologist for speech

The Health Insurance Exchange Is Not Working Essay
The health insurance exchange is not working. The premiums of the insurance plans offered on
Covered California have increased by 25% leaving me with no affordable options. When the Patient
Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was first implemented, there were months of
advertisements about the advantages of Covered California, California s state run health insurance
exchange. The health insurance exchange is a purchasing pool that was supposed to increase access to
affordable health insurance and allow buyers like me to compare the benefits and prices of plans.
However, many insurance companies are pulling out of the exchange because they are losing money,
and in many states, purchasers can only choose from one or two insurance companies on the
individual health insurance marketplace ( Number of Issuers Participating in the Individual Health
Insurance Marketplaces ). The dwindling amount of insurers taking part in the exchange is causing a
decrease in competition and contributing to rising premium costs. As a purchaser on the insurance
exchange, I am no longer able to afford my insurance plan that I have bought on Covered California
and I am demanding a change. I demand the addition of a public option. With the ACA, I finally
thought I would be able to purchase affordable health insurance. I do not receive health insurance
from my job because I am self employed, and I do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid. Buying
insurance on Covered California is my only option for

The computation of accumulated amortization is as follows. Amortization for 2005 and 2006 ($1,000,000/10) X 2 $200,000 2007 amortization: ($1,000,000 $200,000) ÷ (6 2) 200,000 Accumulated amortization, 12/31/07 $400,000 2. Alatorre should amortize the franchise over its estimated useful life. Because it is uncertain that Alatorre will be able to retain the franchise at the end of 2015, it should be amortized over 10 years. The amount of amortization on the franchise for the year ended December 31, 2007, is $40,000: ($400,000/10). 3. These costs should be expensed as incurred. Therefore $275,000 of organization expense is reported in income for 2007. 4. Because the license can be easily renewed (at nominal cost), it has an indefinite life. Thus, no amortization will be recorded. The license will be tested for impairment in future periods. • 5. Research Paper On Chicken Pox Chickenpox is a contagious disease that is caused by the varicella zoster virus (or coming in contact with someone with the virus). Chicken pox is mainly found to infect children because they stay in big groups and have a lot of contact with each other. It is a problem because it causes many issues and symptoms to certain individuals, the disease can be serious and deadly. The main symptoms of Chicken Pox include experiencing extreme itchiness around your body, flu like symptoms (stuffy nose, sneezing, etc.), rashes and blisters, sore throat, headaches, stomachaches and pain around the spots. Chicken pox can be exceedingly contagious, and it will still be contagious until all the symptoms are over. It can spread through saliva, coughing, sneezing, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although dying from chicken pox is very unlikely, a study showed that 20 people died from the disease in Britain in 1 year. Also, every year there are around 5000 9000 cases of chicken pox and around 100 deaths (caused by the Varicella Virus) in America. When the body has successfully defeated the virus, the virus will remain in the body in case of future attacks from the same microorganism. After having chickenpox, it is unlikely to be infected by it again. But the virus stays in your body after you re cured from the illness. After a chickenpox infection, the virus will be inactive in the body, because if there are any future attacks by the same virus, the body will recognize it and have an easier time destroying it. The immune system keeps the virus inactive, but it is possible for the virus to reactivate and cause a similar form of the disease called shingles, also referred to as herpes zoster. • 6. Increase The Toughness Of Steels After Quenching Process Abstract: Tempering is an important heat treating process, which is used to increase the toughness of steels after quenching process. Hollomon Jaffe equation H=T(c+log⁡ t ) is widely used to predict hardness with different tempering temperature and tempering time. T is the tempering temperature, t is the tempering time and c is the constant for the specific steel. The physical explanation of c constant was not clear. In this paper, the hardness and c/a ratio of tempered martensite for AISI 4140 were measured by X Ray Diffraction and Rietveld refinement. The result reveals that the c/a ratio decreases instantly within the first 60s tempering time. After analysis based on the experiment results and derivation of Hollomon Jaffe equation, c, the parameter in Hollomon Jaffe equation, is found to stand for the slope of carbon hardness curve. Key words: Tempering, martensite, X ray diffraction, Hollomon Jaffe equation 1. Introduction All steels that are hardened are subjected to a subcritical heat treatment referred to as tempering . Tempering improves the toughness of as quenched martensite (body center tetragonal) but lowers strength and hardness 1, . The microstructure transformation is very complex: Stage1: The formation of transition carbides and lowering of the carbon content of the martensite to 0.25% (100 to 250℃) Stage2: The transformation of retained austenite to ferrite and cementite (200 to 300℃) Stage3: The replacement of transition carbides and low temperature ... • 7. A Brief Look at Shark Culling Is shark culling okay given the number of shark attacks that have occurred? Recently it seems that the number of shark attacks has increased with seven fatal attacks in the past 3 years in Western Australia (WA). These recent attacks have led the WA Government being granted an exemption to start culling sharks with a catch and kill shark program. A lot of people including scientists and surfers are against this controversial decision. For people to make an informed decision they need to have an understanding of where the shark fits into the marine ecosystem, as well as the reasons presented for the use of shark culling and the arguments given that oppose such extreme measures. The Shark s place in the marine ecosystem is as a predator at the top of the food chain as there is no natural predator of sharks. Sharks are not very fastidious about what they eat but their diet generally consists of seal, crab, squid, lobster and fish. If sharks were to become extinct there would be an ecological cost. The marine life that is the shark s food source would start to overpopulate with nothing to prey on it. One possible reason that sharks are coming closer to shores is that their natural food source is diminishing due to overfishing by humans. To stop sharks from being too near to popular swimming locations, fishermen need to expand or change their hunting areas. One reason for culling sharks is that when there are sharks in populated areas, people s lives are in danger therefore if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Public Law And Private Law INTRODUCTION The subject of law encompasses a wide area and covers a variety of issues and agenda. For the convenience of readers and learners of this subject, it is classified into various categories. Civil Law and Criminal Law Public Law and Private Law Substantive Law and Procedural Law Municipal Law and International Law The classification between Public Law and Private Law is one of the most important classifications of law. Public Law in general terms has been defined as the law of relations between the individual and state . Holland lays down the simplest test to determine whether the case falls in public law or private law If one of the parties is state, the case falls in the dimension of public law . However, with passing times and more complex issues arising, the scope of public law is going much beyond the normal definition of state as one of the parties . The scope of public law now also involves various other matters such as business regulation. Also, the scope of public law varies from state to state and system to system. While a socialist economy will see private law having a much stronger authority, this will not be the case in a capitalist or a mixed economy state. Major components of Public Law are Constitutional Law Administrative Law Criminal Law Private Law, on the other hand, deals with disputes between parties other than the State. His reforms impacted on the social, political and religious mechanisms used in the Roman Empire for centuries to come. Nero consolidated his position within Rome through many decisions which favored the people, enabling him to establish and maintain himself in the position as Emperor. Nero has been known as the emperor who ultimately ended the Julio Claudian dynasty and jeopardized Rome s authority, but through analyzing his work and achievements throughout his rule, many historians raise the question that Nero in fact shaped the society we live in currently and his actions in his time of power have had a chain effect throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until the year 59 A.D., Nero was described as a generous and reasonable leader. He eliminated capital punishment, lowered taxes and allowed slaves to bring complaints against their masters (Tacitus, 109 A.C.E.). Although he was known for his nighttime frolicking, his actions were good natured, albeit irresponsible and self indulgent. Although Nero was a supportive man and contributed many assets to his empire, after his mother s death, Nero fell into a hedonic lifestyle that was full of tyranny. He spent exorbitant amounts of money on artistic pursuits and began public performances as a poet and lyre player, a significant breach of etiquette for a member of the ruling class (Pamela B, 1990). The programs are usually three to eight weeks in length and they are counseled by recovering alcoholics with little formal training. These private pay programs are the most common form of residential treatment although they are now reduced in number. Medical assisted treatment is not nearly as popular as residential treatment, but it is beginning to play a more important role in outpatient recovery. When using medication to aid recovery there are three basic approaches to take: antagonism, substitution, or the use of a drug that is medically incompatible. Antagonism requires total a blockage of the abused drug, while substitution allows the use of another drug to reduce the craving for the abused drug. Giving an addict a drug that is medically incompatible with the abused drug will cause them to become sick any time that they use the abused drug. • 11. Essay about Oscar Wilde s An Ideal Husband Oscar Wilde s An Ideal Husband Oscar Wilde (1845 1903) lived an outrageous and controversial life which was well publicized and condemned, as his life defied the strict social mores of the time. He was put into this public position due to the success of his plays which challenged Victorian earnestness while being hilariously funny. His plays, in particular An Ideal Husband, 1895 portray Victorian society as viciously hypocritical at it s worst and laughably pretentious at it s best. Wilde expressed this point of view in An Ideal Husband through the rich use of plot development, construction of characters, dramatic irony, hyperbole, witty and epigrammatic repartee and satire. The central plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience assumes that people in the real world as lucky and benevolent as this are so becuase they worked hard and are earnest. By creating a character like this who took the easy money and built a marriage and friendships around lies, wilde has challenged the earnestness of the many victorian people because there were many poeple in a social position like robert s who may have done a similar thing to get there. In An Ideal Husband Wilde presents a view (the least flattering view presented in the play)that victorian society is viciously hypocritical. This is acheived through the characterisation of Lady Gertrude chiltern, as her ridiculously high morals (an important factor of earnestness) almost cost her her marriage. she demanded to be told if robert had done some shameful thing, in which case they would separate. This irony shows the hypocrisy of being too earnest. Morality is an important factor of earnestness which is mocked in An Ideal Husband by the dialogue of the play, especially the characterised dialogue of Mrs. Chevely. • 12. The Vulnerability of Children in the Era of the Holocaust Children were especially vulnerable in the era of the Holocaust. The Nazis advocated killing children of unwanted or dangerous groups in accordance with their ideological views, either as part of the racial struggle or as a measure of preventative security. The Germans and their collaborators killed children both for these ideological reasons and in retaliation for real or alleged partisan attacks. The Germans and their collaborators killed as many as 1.5 million children, including over a million Jewish children and tens of thousands of Romani (Gypsy) children, German children with physical and mental disabilities living in institutions, Polish children, and children residing in the occupied Soviet Union. The chances for survival for Jewish and some non Jewish adolescents (13 18 years old) were greater, as they could be deployed at forced labor. The fate of Jewish and non Jewish children can be categorized in the following way: 1) children killed when they arrived in killing centers; 2) children killed immediately after birth or in institutions; 3) children born in ghettos and camps who survived because prisoners hid them; 4) children, usually over age 12, who were used as laborers and as subjects of medical experiments; and 5) those children killed during reprisal operations or so called anti partisan operations. The communist party in Cambodia led by Pol Pot, the Kampuchea People Revolutionary Party, started underground and slowly rose to power. The KPRP, was the most prominent communist party at that time. This is because the ex ruler Sihanouk supported it. The Khmer Rouge also employed other tactics in order to keep the monks in Cambodia. Another account recorded by Harris was that of a man called Ven. Nhem Kim Teng. Aquifers, unconsolidated subterranean layers which hold water, are rapidly dwindling, and groundwater depletion is quickly growing to become a major problem for farmers and the public at large. Reserves close to ground level are rapidly drying up and due to technological roadblocks, extracting water from deeper reserves is not yet financially feasible. Charles Lindbergh was one of these heroes. Born in 1902, he was trained in aviation and worked as an airmail pilot (Bishop). Later, he made history by becoming the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean alone (Nash 388). On May twenty first, 1927, Lindbergh traveled from New York to Le Bourget field in Paris in his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis (James). He designed this plane himself, working to make it as small and lightweight as possible (Kessner Charles Lindbergh, A New Hero ). Known as the lone eagle , Lindbergh became one of the biggest celebrities of the era (Chamberlain). His flight caused more excitement than any other event of its time (Nash 388). Approximately 25,000 people were at Le Bourget field to watch Lindbergh land (James). Upon returning to the United States, there were numerous parades and dinners to honor his achievement ( Lindbergh Visit Ends ). Charles Lindbergh was the most influential hero to emerge from the 1920s, making an impact by transforming aviation, as well as acting as a role model for the American public and encouraging a return to the old way of American life. • 36. Ethical Dilemmas And Moral Courage Abstract In today s healthcare environment nurses are faced with increasingly intricate ethical dilemmas. We encounter these dilemmas in situations where our ability to do the right thing is continuously delayed by conflicting values and beliefs of other healthcare providers. There are many nurses who face these ethical issues head on and others who put it aside. Keeping our commitment to patients requires moral courage. Moral courage aids us in addressing ethical issues and making the correct decision when it is being contradicted. It involves the willingness to speak out and do what is right in the face of forces that would lead us to act in an unethical way. Nurses who have moral courage and advocate in the best interest of the client may have to endure adverse outcomes. It is important that nurses begin to create a work environment in which moral courage is supported. Nurses in all types of settings face ethical dilemmas. An ethical dilemma is a complex situation that often involves an apparent mental conflict between moral imperatives, in which to obey one would result in transgressing another. Having moral courage as a nurse in the healthcare environment is very important. A nurse who presents moral courage stands up to ethical issues that may affect the client and even themselves. As nurses it is our responsibility to put our patient first, and that includes fighting for what is right and not being put in situations in which our ability to provide care ... Columba, Kim, and Moe (2009) in The Power of Picture Books in Teaching Math, Science, and Social Studies and Kane (2008) in Integrating Literature in the Content Areas proposed using literature to teach the content areas. Using literature humanizes math, science, and social studies for children and parents, providing a new method of communication, and stimulating interest, enjoyment, and confidence (Columba et al., 2009). Additionally, it enables the teaching of content from multiple perspectives, motivating students to discover the love of learning from challenging sources (Kane, 2008). Kane (2008) explained that 40 percent of high school graduates lack the literacy skills necessary for employment. By teaching effective literacy strategies in content area learning, teachers can foster deeper understandings of texts and increase students ability to generate ideas and knowledge for their own uses (Kane, 2008, p. 3). • 40. The Importance Of The Police And Criminal Evidence Act 1984 Safety is a fundamental right that we all deserve. Most of us rely on the government to provide this security. We pay for this through taxes, but the question that we must ask ourselves is are we getting what we are paying for? By paying our taxes to the government we are giving it the authority to choose the service we are getting back. The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) is an Act of Parliament which instituted a legislative framework for the powers of police officers in England and Wales to combat crime, as well as providing codes of practice for the exercise of those powers. PACE sets out to strike the right balance between the powers of the police and the rights and freedoms of the public. Maintaining that balance is a central element of PACE. These powers have been given to the police to insure our safety however how much power the police really hold is limited by the PACE, the police must carry out their duty without breaching the rights of individuals. the question of whether or not these rights should be abolished is a debatable one. The police stop and search power first came about in 1984 the aim of this act was to protect the rights of the public from the misconduct of police officers. some may argue that they are still not protected by this act.Scottish ministers are under renewed pressure to abolish controversial police stop and search powers, after United Nations human rights experts said they were potentially breaching international law. A network that worth more than 100 billion dollar and connecting more than billion people across the globe. The importance of delivering programming knowledge has been recognised by quite a few countries worldwide and the United Kingdom could be one of the best examples. In September 2013, some exciting changes were made to the national curriculum. ICT Information and Communications Technology was out, replaced by a new computer science curriculum including coding lessons for children as young as five. Also, in the United States, the teaching kids to code movement has been calling for change in the computing curriculum by putting more emphasis in the computer programming, and it has received a lot of support from business and non profit organization and public figures including the American President Barak Obama who gave speech on 12/8/2013 calling for support from the public for these changes. It is in fact not reasonable to believe so. I will prove that it is unreasonable to believe a god with these attributes like this can exist accompanying evil. In order to give a valid argument ill look at each component, omniscience, omnipotence and Omni benevolence and break those down leading to the conclusion that a being such as this cannot coexist with evil. In this situation there are two options for someone to take, first reject one of the main premises that god is not omniscient or that such a being exists in the first place. Refusing to believe she exists of course is the least likely option for those who are religious. Classical theists would disagree with both of these things because to give up one of the three big aspects of god goes against their faith entirely. Some may accept that god is not omniscient and others may argue that free will in a situation like this. This is completely aside from just natural evils that occur these are the evils that humans bring to the world. However if god already knew what was going to happen and we supposedly have free will it cannot be used as argument since it can be questioned if you can have free will if everything is determined. Now it is fair to say that an all knowing god does exist and with all his vast knowledge could not create a world without evil nor rid the world of evil after it came. This clues into the next point of her omnipotence. With that said, it is irrational to think that this omniscient deity exists. In challenging the existence of the whole being must be looked into, each part of an Omni god omnipotence, omniscience and Omni benevolence are very closely related to each other. Katlyn Riggins WGST 343: 500 Fall 2015 Topic Number 4 Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura Mulvey takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. Mulvey references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of erotic spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look, and plays to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to examine different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present. Furthermore, it is appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to their unique interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it will consider Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers, Karyn Kusama and Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with comparing and contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will address how any filmmaker may object the male gaze.
