Major Depression Essay
Depression and other mood disorders tend to proliferate as a result of multiple, complex, biological,
psychological and social factors, including war and other violent conflicts, natural disasters, poverty
and limited access to resources. An amalgamation of genetic and environmental factors unite to
unchain depression(Sullivan et al., 2000; Wong and Licinio, 2001; Lesch, 2004; Hamet and
Tremblay, 2005; Ebmeier et al., 2006). Several vulnerability genes of large or little effect, in
relations with each other and in combination with environmental factors, generate susceptibility to
the disorder. Individual s personal threshold or vulnerability to depression is a considerable
determinant of depression. Some people are more likely to become more... Show more content on

Traditional genetic linkage studies and candidate gene methods have been used with reasonably
limited achievement in major depression. Genetic models of etiology commonly believe a large
number of genes with comparatively little contributions to liability. Progresses in high
genotyping and microarray method have made it more possible to discover genes with little
effect sizes (Hong and Tsai, 2003). It is of particular clinical concerns those studies which are
based on pathophysiological ideas (candidate genes) and in particular those that observe the
possibility of patients to respond to particular treatments. Serotonin (5 HT) systems is involved in
Genetic susceptibility because tryptophan reduction in healthy individuals is observed to stimulate
depressive symptoms only if they have affected relatives (Benkelfat et al., 1994).Polymorphism in
the serotonin transporter (5 HTT) gene are of more particular concern in depression. A
polymorphism in the 5 promoter region consisting of a short (s) and a long (L) L allele with the s
allele being related with reduced 5 HT transmembrane transport and decreased transporter mRNA

The Interest Of The Germans Essay
The Interest of the Germans World War II was a difficult time in human history. A country rise up
to power and took radical actions to achieve their goal and create a world that they find ideal.
Some Germans were force to leave Germany for being Jewish, and others for multiple reasons. As a
result, these Germans made Latin Americaas their safe haven away from what used to be their
home. The United Stateseventually had got in the involvement of the war and a main concerned
they had were these Germans who live in Latin America. The chief interest for the lives of these
Jewish, non Jewish Germans, was only important to their own benefit, or to secure their safety in
the war. The United States government created a Black List . A lost that had Germans in Latin

Dr. Chriss Warren Foster Argument What is Critique? An Essay on Foucault s Virtue is the article
that Judith Butler reads and analyzes the ideas of Foucault s in the article, What is Critique?
Foucault wants to express his ideas that critique is a repetition of power, which would deliver the
issue with an evident as a part of autonomous. However, when Foucault rejects the impression of the
autonomous matter, what portions of independence are actually thinkable for the subject? Butler s
article really wants to explain that application in Foucault s situation by exploring the philosophy of
advantages and of communication acts. Nonetheless, in order to show the resolution of the fact as

In Panopticism, Foucault states that, in society, it does not really matter who has the most
influence, but that influence is formed by the position. Furthermore, it is referring the fact that in
Panoptican, the certain design may characterize the power of structure. The restriction on
communication of hostage can interconnect them with each other, or who and what they will

experience emotion or being terrified because power is more controlled and necessary than precise.
It sort of depends on the condition, a lot of the time people suppress the situation to the value where
they cannot even comprehend its power at performance and that s the whole point.
Regarding the issue of gender, there are many ways to classify the issue. One way is the very
influences that function to constantly describe and define sex classifications as dissimilar dualistic.

Predator-Prey Interaction
Abstract Predators are animals that kill for their food; they must do this in order to survive. There
has been controversy about predation in some areas including the re introduction of wolves into
the Yellowstone National park area and other areas. Predator prey relationships are both beneficial
and detrimental to some species. The weakest and unhealthiest become dinner for those predators
and also become a positive thing for the species that only the strongest of the herd will survive and
continue to reproduce. Some types of prey have defense mechanisms which fight off predators.
Survival of the fittest is the best explained phrase for this type of ecological interaction.

Predation and prey interactions keep the circle of life going.
Benefits of Predation When a predator makes a kill, it feeds not only them, but other species as
well. For example, if there is an elk kill, this will feed other predators like bear, mountain lion,
coyotes, eagles and others. Smaller rodents and other scavengers, like ravens will also benefit
from a kill. We are predators ourselves we have to kill to eat, just most of us don t do it
ourselves, if we are meat eaters. What we don t eat can go to the dogs and feed them. Bacteria
and other parasites can also join in on the fun. Other things we don t eat, can go to compost, so
there are many ways in which predation benefits the food chain. It definitely feeds various links
on the food web. Predation is also used to control populations of certain problematic species, such
as snails, which pass certain types of diseases to other species including humans, as explained by
Molles. They have used crayfish in some places such as Kenya and other East African countries to
control a problematic snail population. (Molles, 343) This happens here at times also, with
introducing species that will eradicate problem species or invasive species that are taking over
watersheds and other ecosystems.
Predator Body Systems Predators can be birds of prey or carnivores or anything that must kill for
their food. Predation is the interaction between the predator and the prey itself. All

from muscle that coagulated preparations of myosin that he called myosin ferment . Straub

substantial amounts of relatively pure actin. This protein existed in two forms: globular actin (G
actin) that was stable in the absence of salt, and in the presence of ions it polymerized to form
fibrous actin (F actin) is explained by Straub (1943). Actin became well known as a supplement to
the Acta Physiologica Scandinavica , when the paper was published by Szent Gyorgyi (1945). Then

Inequality In The Giver
Equality s Dark Pottential
Imagine a world where you were limited to do certain things. A world where you couldn t be
faster, smarter, stronger, or dumber than anyone else. Where nobody can see the beauty of color or
remember important memories of the past. As Barry Goldwater once said Equality, rightly
understood as our founding fathers understood it, leads to liberty and to the emancipation of
creative differences; wrongly understood, as it has been so tragically in our time, it leads first to
conformity and then to despotism. and well, the world with conformity and despotism, that s the

The true definition of equality has been misunderstood in these societies and formed a dystopia
when the people were trying to create a utopia. These 2 stories prove and show that when the
meaning of equality is wrongly understood, it can have a negative impact on society and the people
them.
Equality, the harsh rules, and the secrecy negatively impact society in The Giver and proves that
if equality is wrongly understood, it can have a bad impact on society. The impacts are shown
clearly in many ways throughout the beginning of the novel in the society. The citizens all have
to go through a day when they are a 12 when they get chosen for their jobs in the future. The
protagonist named Jonas is chosen to a very special job named the receiver. The point of this job
is to receive the memories of the past to keep them from being released to the society around.
There are many painful memories and happy ones. In one of his first happy memories, Jonas sees
his first ever glimpse of color and starts to have different thoughts about the black and white world
around him. He reacts to the memory and says But I want them! Jonas said angrily. It isn t fair that
nothing has color! (Lowry 122). After this and

Thomas King Borders
Borders In a world where seven billion people can communicate in fractions of a second across
the globe, share thoughts and exchange cultures, the way we choose to identity ourselves can
often mark us. You can often tell a lot about someone who proclaims to be Quebecois before
being Canadian. And theses thing are often present in areas that have a clash of cultures, such as
QuГ©bec in the former example. But the author Thomas King dives deeper into the subject with
his short story Borders. King s characters do not attach themselves to the place they were born,
instead they take pride in their parents legacy, their heritage. By writing through the eyes of a
twelve year old boy and using opposition, King displays the importance of such things and how
minorities are slowly losing them. Reading the story as told by a young child gives the audience a

The author manages to present these differences in a series of different ways, some more subtle
than others. The first opposition appears early on in the short story. The narrator mentions that his
father is American, while his mother, his sister and he are all Canadian. This leads us to believe
that the family might be no longer together. Further in the story, the boy s sister, Laetitia compares
Salt Lake City to their small town, creating once again a new opposition. And during this
conversation an interesting phrases comes up: Laetitia told her in English. By mentioning the
language in which Laetitia spoke, we can conclude that the mother was speaking in another
language, presumably in her native tongue. This forms an even bigger valley between the two. By
separating herself from her mother, Laetitia disassociates from part of her heritage. This is all
achieved through the various uses of opposition King employs from end to end of

The employees not only need to abandon their own culture, values and belief but also have to
accept an entirely different culture. This exposure challenges the old organizational value system
and practices leading to stress among the employees.
Research has found that dissimilar cultures can produce feeling of hostility and significant
discomfort which can lower the commitment and cooperation on the part of the employees. In case
of cultural clash, the dominant culture may get preference in the organization causing frustration
and feelings of loss for the other set of employees. The employees of the non dominating culture

me one step closer to achieving my long term goal of becoming a human resource manager. The
goal is measurable because I plan to apply to any position I see posted in the human resources

have access to our job postings website and I plan to check this website for updates at least twice
per week. This is a reasonable goal because I sometimes have downtime at work, which would
allow me to use that timeto search for new postings and even apply. This goal is time bound

Network Administrator Has Higher Level Of Control
LAN stands for Local Area Network. It is a type of network that covers a greater distance and it
interconnects computers and devices either wired or wireless. LAN is mainly used in private
organisations such as college or university. More or less everyone uses wireless router at home
these days and the user is able to connect between 5 10 devices wirelessly. The user can share the
broadband or the connection with ADSL by using Ethernet cables. Smaller LANs can connect at
least 2 3 computers using one cable. It also depends on the size of the organisation. Smaller
LANs are easier to manage. The users need to be careful when using larger LANs and need to
make sure that the network within it is transmitted efficiently. The user can increase the number
of computers connected by using routers and switches. This ensures that the network
administrator has higher level of control over the network. IEEE 802.3 is the wired Ethernet
used by LAN and therefore it is related to LAN. The set up cost for LAN is relatively cheap.
WAN stands for Wide Area Network. It is a type of network that interconnects the LANs
meaning it connects the LANs together over large distance. WAN is used in school or college

are essential and sometimes overlooked by many. The most important steps to survival are those
that are instinct and essential. When the bombs are dropped there is not much time depending
on how far away the bomb is to prepare. Some basic things that most people do not think of like
are opening windows and doors downstairs and filling up pails and bath tubs with water (Frank

the pails and tubs, one will need to find a way to make the radiated water drinkable, or find an
alternate source of water. In Pat Frank s Alas, Babylon, this alternate source was the artesian

alternate source of water is wells and water tanks, no contaminated water or particles have a

The necessity for a new type of energy increases with every year. Energy consumption rates are
increasing continuously, and with them, pollution and wastes directly harming the Earth and her
atmosphere. While other energy competitors constantly fell short of impacting fossil fuels enough
to significantly lower their usage rates, nuclear energy can not only compete against the highly
efficient yet harmful fossil fuels but can reign as king as a more efficient and cleaner source of
energy. There are two pivotal arguments against nuclear energy: the public s perception and nuclear
waste. In arguments pertaining to this topic, it is commonly asked as the waste continues to build

Hair As A Man With Facial Hair
Do you find a man s facial hair attractive? Currently among young men growing facial hair has
been a popular trend, such as the goatee, heavy stubble, handlebar mustache and chevron. Research
has shown that a man with facial hair symbolizes masculinity, individuality, and maturity. Men
grow facial hair for numerous reasons, such as to look professional and attract a woman, follow
their icons fashion style and the latest trend, and participate in an event like No Shave November.
Facial hair was tremendously popular in the US for men in the late 1800s. Dating throughout the
history of US men facial hair trend, styling mustache and beardwas once very popular and today
the facial trend is once again the most popular trend among other trends. According to a story
from BUZZFEED, in the early 1800s, American men typically wore their face clean shaven.
Barbers were commonly black men, but after the Civil War, white men became less comfortable
to get their facial hair done with black barbers because of racial tensions. Which led white men to
groom their own facial hair. White men groomed their own facial hair, risking tetanus and even
death if their razor was not properly sterilized, and this led facial hair into fashion (Eehn). For the
last decades, facial hair trend has been vanishing and rising again, but currently the trend of growing
facial hair is increasing vastly within young males . Currently, goatee, heavy stubble, handlebar

Beetlejuice Analytical Review
In the movie Beetlejuice, the theme is that the afterlife is not really the end for us all; we live on
a multiple level world between life and death, and need to respect the dead. The theme is idealistic
and not applicable in real life to all people. Throughout the movie, Burton reveals his take on the
living and life after deathand the delicate interaction between the two. The character Otho, played
by Glenn Shadixis key to Burton s interpretation and scrutiny of the afterlife. Throughout the film
Otho makes comments about the dead and even goes as far to steal The Handbook for the

car is teetering over the edge of the bridge towards the river; the only thing keeping Adam and
Barbra from their tragic death is a dog who s weight on a single plank is sustaining the balance
of the car. Oddly enough, the dog they saved was the one who sent them to their watery grave. It
is uncommon in movies to kill off the main characters early on in the film, but Burton did so in
order to show the audience the shift in the main characters circumstances. The Maitlands return
home soaking wet, without knowing that they are dead but know that something is off; Barbra

Barbra s hand catches fire. Adam is in a frenzy and flees the dark and barley lit home and is sent

A Nurse Residency Program For New Nursing
Introduction The publication from the institute of medicine has garnered much interest since its
publication in 2010 focusing on the future of nursing and the implementation of this with in the
nursing community. The nursing profession has over 3 million members and is the largest
segment of the nation s health care workforce. Working on the front lines of patient care, nurses
can play a vital role in helping realize the objectives set forth in the 2010 IOM (Institute of

He theorized a three stage model of change known as unfreezing change refreeze model that
requires prior learning to be rejected and replaced. Lewin s definition of behavior in this model is
a dynamic balance of forces working in opposing directions. Implementing a change in practice
within these environments can produce anxiety or fear of failure in nurses, leading to a resistance
to change. Several studies (Bozak, 2003; Lehman, 2008; Spetz, Burgess Phibbs, 2012) expounded
the need for a concise plan and clear communication between nurses and management when
implementing a change of this nature. The use of Lewin s Change Management theory can support
nurses through the transitions and identify areas of strengths and resistances prior to implementing
change. Without a framework for guidance, it can be difficult to keep on track. As the demand for
home visits from nurses increases its necessities a need to prevent avoidable hospitalizations, it is
critical to attract and prepare more nurses for roles in home care. The residency program would

The Fusion of Content and Form in Sonnet 29 Essay examples
The Fusion of Content and Form in Sonnet 29
One of the most popular of the fixed poetic forms in English literature is the sonnet. Attributed to
the Italian poet Petrarch in the fourteenth century, the sonnet is still used by many contemporary
writers. The appeal of the sonnet lies in its two part structure, which easily lends itself to the
dynamics of much human emotional experience and to the intellectual mode of human sensibility
for argument based on complication and resolution.
In the last decade of the sixteenth century, sonnet writing became highly fashionable following the
publication of Sir Philip Sydney s sonnet sequence Astrophel and Stella, published in 1591. Sonnet
sequences were widely read and admired at this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A different rhyme scheme and thus a different convention of logical and rhetorical organization
determines the differences between the two sonnet forms. In the Petrarchian sonnet the problem is
solved by reasoned perception or a meditative process.
The Shakespearean sonnet maintains the basic two part structure of conflict and resolution, now
presented in fourteen lines of three quatrains and a concluding rhyming couplet. Each quatrain
presents a further aspect of a problem, conflict, or idea. The resolution occurs in the last two of a
rhyming couplet, achieved through logical cleverness that summarizes or ties together what has
been expressed in the three quatrains. The rhyme scheme, subject to variation, is abab, cdcd, efef,
gg in iambic pentameter.
The sonnet sequence is a gathering together of a number of sonnets to present a narrative or
examine a larger theme. Shakespeare s sequence, like Sydney s, was intended as a series of love
poems to celebrate the poet s affections for a young male friend. The poems were collected and
published as a sequence in 1609, though initially they were private poems meant for a small circle
of writers and friends, not for publication. There are 154 sonnets in the sequence. Some scholars
speculate these are ones that remain from a longer work, thus accounting for the sonnet s problems
in chronology, thematic development, and connections between individual poems. Other scholars
speculate that not all

Creative Play
There is often debate as to whether it s more important to provide children with free time for
creative play, or to ensure that they participate in more organized activity. In the first article the
author refers to creative play as a way to help children learn how to express themselves and promote
independent thinking. Whereas in the second article it states that organized activities are more
important in the sense that they teach children things like commitment, teamwork, and devoloping
healthy attitudes towards themselves. I believe that each of these methods have their own merit,
and that a combination of both is best for a childs development. For example, I don t think it s

The World s Post-Apocalypse
Post Apocalypse refers to the era following a significant catastrophic event or an utter collapse of
a great empire or civilization; ultimately, the struggle for power never ends and war never
changes. That being the case, Fallout 4 could be regarded as an exemplary exemplification of this
genre because it is classified as a post apocalyptic survival videogame that thoroughly illustrates
the formation of the hazardous environment known as the Wasteland after the total annihilation of
United States of America caused by a nuclear apocalypse. First of all, there are three major eras in
the history of the Wasteland: the Pre War era, The Great War, and the Post War. The Pre war era

Moreover, it is an undeniable fact that any law and order diminishes following the collapse of
civilization. Under this circumstance, it is clear that the Wasteland is ruled by anarchy and chaos.
To illustrate, there are post modern anarchists known as the Raiders. They are known as the
savages and barbarians of the Wasteland who pillage small farming communities, rape, torture, and
murder the settlers of those communities. The only people who stand up against the raiders are the
Commonwealth Minutemen, a post war patriot organization consisted of volunteers who strive to
liberate and protect small communities from various threats as well as the desire to rebuild the
annihilated nation. Even though the wasteland is under anarchy and chaos, the nuclear
apocalypse never ended the war in the post war era. There are large organizations, newly formed
republics, and gangs who are waging a war to seize territory and a control over the wasteland. For
example, the Brotherhood of Steel is an organization of Knights whose main focus is obtaining

segment is shampoo. The key players in this industry are P G, Unilever, Marico and Dabur that

The hair care market s growth rate in the United States is increasing with a much lower growth rate
than Indian. Another key difference is that the key product segments are different in both countries.
But the leading companies are the same in the Unites States and in India; they both have P G and
Unilever as two main players in the hair care industry.
Demand Drivers
Some of the factors that drive the industry in the Unites States are an increasing hair related
problems among consumers, new hair care products innovations and increasing demand for natural
and organic hair care products. This change has occurred because of consumers increased awareness
about the negative effects of harsh substances and chemicals.
The factors that drive the hair care industry in India are increased pollution and health issues.

Autocratic leadership style: PiГ«ch and his successor Winterkorn both had an aggressive,

this culture employees never discussed the roadblocks or look for the guidance from their superiors

Is Football A Dangerous Sport For High School Sports
Is Football a Dangerous Sport for High School Students
In the three sources we ve read about whether football is too dangerous for high school students to
play in high school, I disagree with its being too dangerous. If playing football is too dangerous in
high school, then it should be dangerous for the N.F.L playersto play too. They are more aggressive
and train harder than the high school players. It can cause lots of concussion. Or even worse injuries
than concussions. Additionally, the injuries to high school students are greater than in the
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football players. If there are concerns with
high school football players getting too many concussions, then they should have them train
differently. There are ways to reduce the number and severity of football injuries through
targeted intervention. Because we observed high levels of ankle and knee injuries, we
recommend increased conditioning by ankles and knee rule changes aimed at protecting these
vulnerable body sites. (Source 1) What Christy Collins, MA, research associate in CIPR at

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of White Privilege
In our world today, White privilege is an existing matter. White privilege can be defined as
advantages that assist white individuals in flourishing and gaining success. Privilege is in and of
itself a struggle to equality. The advantages in privilege display the inequality that is in our
society towards those who are not white. We as a society usually do not see the inequality in the
opportunity and quality of life amongst those of different races, and this results from the fact of
wealthy white counterparts being in control and in power since the birth of this nation. White

The Model Of Racial Equality
In certainty, the model of racial equality has not always been performed, nor has it been fully
accomplished in the world. This is because the acceptance in racial equality has been said to
counter deeply rooted beliefs in racial inequality and political, legal, and customary practices of
racial discrimination and oppression. Therefore, racial equality is stated in antiracist philosophy
and in antiracist political mobilization.
With this said, as citizens, are we still equal? The answer to that question is no . The world is
living in Orwellian times where citizens are equal, but some citizens are more equal than others.
While some agree, there are many groups that are pushing for reform and equality, such as Take
Back Our Republic, By The People, and Common Cause: Holding Power Accountable. Now that
the facts are said, we must ask how did we become so unequal? Over time, big corporations, racial
groups, and corruption in government have been advocating inequality for the minority. Some
people are filled with wrong ideas and beliefs that attack those in the minority group, especially
people of color. Franklin said, almost from the beginning of their national history, people have been
relentless, at times ruthless, in their pursuit of equality.

success is making my father feel proud of me by fulfilling his dream, which is to do something
meaningful with my life and to see me become something in my life. Attaining success requires
laborious training, but it is not impossible if you work hard of it. When I was 15 years old, my
father, who was everything to me, died from a heart attack. After this dreadful incident my heart
shattered, my life stopped and I did not know what to do with my life anymore. He took a piece of
my heart with him, a piece that will never return. All... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was broken and I did not know how to get back on my feet. One day, I had a conversation with
my mother and she told me that we can not bring him back, but we can keep him alive in

fulfilling his dream. He wanted me to have a career in the field of business and that is what I am
going to do. Since, advertising industry as a whole is supposed to grow even stronger over the
next decade, I am going to major in marketing. I have learned a lot from my past. I learned that
we should never let anything interrupt our path to success. It took me two years to finally
understand that we should let go of our past because if we do not, then it is going to hold us

that is bittersweet about success is that my father will not be here to enjoy it with me. But, if he

In the ninth century, Vikings began to raid Ireland, eventually conquering and settling on the
island. The strong Irish culture influenced the Viking conquerors way of life, rather than an
invader s long term domination would suggest. Anglo Norman invaders arrived in Ireland in
1169, attempting to colonize the island over the next 500 years. The invaders began to expand
their influence across the island by means of force. These attacks caused rebellions from the Irish
people, as they were no strangers to aggression from the East. Religious persecution of Catholic
Irish grew in particular after the accession of Elizabeth I, a Protestant, to the throne in 1558. Oliver
Cromwell s subsequent siege of Ireland in 1649 ended with massacres of Catholics at Drogheda and
Wexford and forced the resettlement of thousands, many of whom lost their homes in the struggle.
By 1691, with the victory of Protestant English King William III over the Catholic forces of James
II, Protestant supremacy in Ireland had become complete. Catholics in Ireland suffered greatly in
the subsequent period of British occupation, enduring laws that prevented them from bearing arms,
holding public office and restricting their rights to an education. While many of those rights were
eventually restored, the animosity between Catholics and Protestants remained. (Washington Post,
1999). A group of Irish

Correlation Between The Factor Personality Model And Job...

categories of personality traits, from which multiple subdivisions under the broad headings stem. It

Personality shapes almost every aspect of an individual s life, and being satisfied with one s job
is not an exclusion. The way an individual outwardly and inwardly assesses themselves, their
position and their career, will play a role in their job performance, and ultimately their job
satisfaction, which is defined by some merely as how content an individual is with his or her
job, whereas to others, it is more complex. Job satisfaction to them involves multidimensional
psychological responses to one s job. The Correlation between the Factor Personality Model and
Job Satisfaction Statement of Task The main purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the link
between the Big Five Factor of Personality and overall job satisfaction. To conduct this
investigation, the Barrick and Mount (1991) meta analysis of the correlation between job
performance and the Big Five Personality Model will be used as a guide. Over the last 20 years,
unanimity has developed that the five factor model of personality, more frequently referred to as
the Big Five (Goldberg, 1990), can be used to define the most remarkable aspects of personality.
The Big Five structure has become metaphysical across scopes, cultures, and sources of ratings
(McCrae John, 1992). The Big Five has been researched in areas of industrial organizational
psychology, predominantly regarding job performance (Barrick Mount, 1991).

Interpretations Of Heritage In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Guided By My Heritage ( In Search 243) Interpretations of Heritage In Everyday Use, Alice Walker
uses relics from Dee s past to demonstrate the importance of heritage through the understanding of
inheritance and ancestry. Heritage in this story is understood as recognizing from where a person
has originated. Walker correspondingly compares inheritanceto art, something which should be used
daily and passed on to future generations. Heritage and inheritance both have the same French root
word: heriter meaning inherit, implying that for one to truly realize and grasp their heritage they
must first accept what they have inherited, in this case the quilts, and utilize them. In the story,
being aware of one s heritage is a significant conflict that troubles the characters. At the end, Mama
and Maggie are the ones that carry on their tradition in the present and truly understand the true
meaning of heritage. Throughout the story exists an overlying theme of comprehension of one s
heritage and ancestry. In contract to this theme, Dee is viewed as hypocritical when claiming she
is reconnecting to her African roots, her supposed heritage, because numerous times she contradicts
her beliefs and principles she is to uphold. If she is truly connected to her African roots, then she
would essentially adopt all parts of the culture and religion. Considering that she has married
Hakim a barber, who declares the Islamic greeting Asalamalakim, my mother and sister (Walker

Essay about Mentorship In Louise Erdrich s Tracks
Mentorship: From Childhood to the Man
Louise Erdrich explores the inner conflicts of an Indian tribe in her novel Tracks. By the end of
the novel, the tribes accord is broken by the lure of the white man s money and land reform. The
divisions among the tribe are epitomized by the physical separation of the Chippewa people into
different colors that correspond to their different land allotments. However, one chapter in
particular contrasts with the tribe s tendency towards discord. Chapter 5, in which Nanapush and
Eli overcome their differences and unite in an attempt to avoid starvation lends hope to the ominous
series of events throughout Tracks which show conflict developing from unity. The great snow
storm they experience together not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the interpretation here is very strong because Nanapush is going through his own
personal struggles from within that he now has a decision to make. Does he write Eli off and
deal with his own issues or does he put his own issues aside and deal with Eli? Instead of the
typical either or, he incorporated the two issues. He addressed the issue of land ownership and
illiteracy amongst the people of the tribe to Eli, as well as helping him the concept that Fleur wasn
t going to stop living her life because he wasn t around in her life anymore either.
But Eli still didn t bounce back to reality just yet, there were still more lessons to be learned. For
instance, coming over to another man s house as a visitor and eating up all of his food. The book
records that 6 days later that they were without food. And Nanapush new that first in order to
survive, one must have nutritional food. Nanapush wasn t going to sit there and starve to death
because of one man agony. He believed it was time for Eli to face his adversities head on, and
deal with consequences at they followed. This is a wonderful part in the story because we see that
Nanapush is fed up.
On the seventh day I handed him his gun. He looked at it in surprise, but finally went north. (P.100

Within this moment, Eli realized that wallowing in agony, pity, and shame wouldn t put food on
the table. It wasn t going to solve any of his problems. And by recognizing this he was able to clear

Fall Choir Concert Analysis
I am not afraid to admit that I talk to my mother on the phone every day. Naturally, I told her that
I would be attending the Fall Choir Concert, and by reading her the selection of songs, I was not
only surprised by her own rendition of Rabbit of Seville, but she also sent me the video of Bugs
Bunny himself belting out the silly ditty. If one is not already aware, Rabbit of Seville, is a short
animation bit released by Warner Bros. In the scene, Bugs Bunny lures Elmer Fudd (everyone s
favorite hunter with a speech impediment) onto a stage. The curtains rise and he aggressively cuts
Fudd s hair while performing a mock melody from the overture of the operabuffa The Barber of
Sevilleby Gioachino Rossini. The clip reminded me of many Looney Tunes favorites from my
childhood and I laughed just as gleefully as I did back then. Before I knew it, my expectations for
the concert had been set, and boy, did the University Chorus, Chorale, and Montanans have a hard
act to follow!
Prior to tonight, I had never been inside Reynolds Recital Hall let alone Howard Hall. On the
night of the concert, it was packed if not sold out. The stage was bathed in blue in the
background the harsh gels glared like a cloudless sky on a hot day. Center stage held a grand
piano, but the intensity of the blue light was not present. Instead, golden lights paled the light and
set the mood of the stage as calm and serene. Three different choirs crossed the stage and each
brought wonderous sound, flawless

Lady Macbeth of Shakespeare s Play, Macbeth Essay
Lady Macbeth of Shakespeare s Play, Macbeth Lady Macbeth is the most interesting and complex
character in Shakespeare s play, Macbeth. She is, in fact, the point on which the action pivots:
without her there is no play. The purpose of this essay is to describe Lady Macbeth s role in the
play and discuss why this makes her the most fascinating character. Her evil doings are the main
reasons why she dominates the plot so greatly. These include the following: considers Macbeth to
be a wimp not wanting to murder; letting Macbeth fulfill her plan; taking control over Macbeth s
thoughts and actions; turning Macbeth from a loyal man to a greedy, coldhearted human being.
Also Lady Macbeth s transformation in character and her relationship... Show more content on

Lady Macbeth tells her husband that Is too full of the human kindness which means she
considers him to be a wimp and that she ll have to do it all herself. Lady Macbeth s actions shape
the first two acts which proves she is the point on which the action pivots. Lady Macbeth
continues to convince and persuade Macbeth into thinking her plan will pay off. Eventually
Macbeth decides against the murder of his king but Lady Macbeth shames him for not being
able to murder, threatening to take away her love from him if he does not. This threat shocks
Macbeth into saying yes . Lady Macbeth outlines her plan to kill King Duncan while asleep as a
guest in their castle. Macbeth had the dagger in his hand ready to kill the King but he just could
not do it until the King started waking up, it was then he knew he had no choice. He regrets his
actions afterwards, But where fore could not I pronounce Amen ? / I had most need of blessing,
and Amen / Stuck in my throat which is proof that he never was willing to kill the King but Lady
Macbeth assures him a little water will wash away their guilt . Macbeth having killed the King
eventually kills several others to cover his tracks. This proves Lady Macbeth transformed her
husband by saying things such as Are you a man? She made him feel at fault so things could be
done her way. If it weren t for Lady Macbeth, Macbeth would have never have killed anyone. This

The Battle Of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler Essay
On February 27 of 2014, masked Russian troops without insignia infiltrated in south Ukraine and
captured strategic sites across Crimea, a rugged peninsula that strategically juts in the Black Sea.
Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally
integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international consternation against Russia, which
resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton
likened the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was
quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article
entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March
7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014).
This is a very grave accusation and, given that the USA and Russia collectively hold 90% of all
nuclear weapons, prudence is in order.
Therefore, in this essay I purpose to assess the validity of the claim by using the Ladder of
Inference, a reasoning method likened to a ladder as it is a step by step process that helps us
draw better conclusions from true facts and reality. (Mind Tools). We can use this method in any of
three ways; reflection (becoming aware of our own thinking), advocacy (making our thinking
visible to others), and inquiry (inquiry into other s thinking). (Ross, n.d.) For this essay, I ll depend

Role Of Senate In Canada
Senate of Canada: Role and Significance
To begin with, the legislative branch of government in Canada is Parliament, which is bicameral
and consists of the House of Commons and the Senate. The House of Commons is made up of 338
members of Parliament that represent different constituencies which vote in Canada s federal
elections (Courtney, 2015). More importantly, the electoral system in which members of parliament
are elected is called first past the post system and the candidate with the most votes wins the
elections with plurality voting (Cross, 2010, p. 130). On the other hand, the second chamber of
Canada s Parliament is the appointed Senate. The Senate is regarded as the chamber of sober
second thought as the Senate reviews legislation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, Senators must be at least 30 years of age and must own $4000 of property and reside in
the province which they represent (BNA Act, 1867, IV. 23). More importantly, Senators maintain
their position in the Senate as their independence is protected by tenure until the age of 75
(Library of Parliament, 2002, p. 12). In terms of the roles, the Senate serves as the watchdog in
Parliament as Senators participate in debates in the chamber, scrutinize government estimates and
legislation as well as investigating issues and policy matters in committees (Library of
Parliament, 2002, p. 12). Also, the 1867 British North America Act also outlines the limitation of
the Senate in terms of proposing bills and the process in which bills become law. Bills can be
introduced in the Senate; however, these bills cannot raise or allocate public funds (Library of
Parliament, 2002, p. 12). Finally, to become law, bills must pass through both the House of
Commons and the Senate to receive royal assent and become law (BNA Act, 1867, IV.

Reynolds Cycle Technology, a manufacturing company based in Birmingham, England. It is
composed of several elements solely including iron, carbon, chrome and molybdenum but also
includes silicon, copper and manganese. The Steel s physical properties include a stiffness level
similar to mild steel. With the addition of chrome and molybdenum the steel can be strong enough
to butt or be thinned down in the middle, thus making the material lighter. It has an excellent

It is half as stiff as most steels though is half as dense making it 20% lighter than steel. For stiff
titanium frames it is required to have a larger diameter, than comparable steels, though not as
large as aluminum. The frame is also very corrosive resistant. With the addition of silicon the
alloy can obtain significant grain refinement and it can be said that titanium alloys have a perfect
balance of properties for frame building. Welding must be done carefully to avoid contamination
and machining must be done precisely. Titanium is very reactive to atmospheric gases and can
result in degradation in the material. Titanium is weldable in annealing conditions but provide
limited weld ductility and heat affected zone ductility. It can also be significantly strengthened by
cold working. Due to titanium being rather expensive it is rarely used for cycles. It is expensive
not only because of the material costs, but also because of the care and time that must be put into
the welding process. 7005 Aluminum Like the Reynolds X100, 7005 Aluminum is an aluminum
alloy but consisting of Zinc and Magnesium. Due to its cost and inconvenience of heat treating,
7005 aluminum has gained considerable popularity with smaller companies. 7005 Aluminum has
similar properties to the Reynolds X100. It is seen as the second most common material and is
most likely to overtake steel as most popular material used for frame design. It is 12% stiffer and
20% lighter than steel

Ernest Shackleton And The Epic Voyage Of The Endurance
When an event occurs in our lives, whether it be good or bad, we must each ask ourselves, What
role did I play in this? (Benson, 2017). This question helps us to find the beginning of the path
we are currently set upon by looking back on outcomes determined by the decisions we have
made. Only whist looking back are we able to ask this simple question as we gain an
understanding of where we were, as well as where we currently are. Leadership in Crisis: Ernest
Shackleton and the Epic Voyage of the Endurance, a case published by The Harvard Business
School, provides an opportunity to observe the role Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, an Irish explorer
in the Royal Geographic Society, played that led to his vessel and crew stranded in the... Show more

Big hairy and audacious, should never be a sure bet, it will have perhaps only a 50 70%
probability of success, but the organization must believe it can reach the goal anyway. (Collins
Porras, 1996, p. 10). In 1907, in pursuit of victory in the formidable race to the South Pole,
Shackleton and his crew set off unified in their goal. Two years later they returned home
unsuccessful in their endeavor.
In May of 1912, Shackleton received news that Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and his team
had become the first expedition to reach the South Pole (Koehn, 2013, 2010, p. 5). The race was
over, and a winner declared. Shackleton missed out on his opportunity to be the first, the
exploration had been done. A goal that is big, hairy and audacious, could not be accurately
describe a goal that possesses no risk of failure. It is how Shackleton approaches this failure that
caused me to understand what it means to be a visionary.
A finish line is more than just a victory or a loss, but the end of a journey, but there are many
more to be had, and one must again set off. A visionary is not someone who sits aside whilst
ruminating about what could be but alternatively someone who is able to create a vision
grounded in possibility. Shackleton stands out as a visionary explorer by being able to set aside
what Collins and Porras define as the We ve Arrived syndrome (Collins Porras, 1996, p. 12). No

Clear associations between nutritional deficiencies and psychosocial effects have been made.
However, the results of the study indicated malnutrition impact on development of infants and
toddlers was unknown, but malnutrition in children led to iron deficiency anemia (Skalicky et al.,
2006). An additional study focused on the iron deficiency concern that exists among low income
toddlers in the United States (Crowel et al., 2005). Even though the prevalence of iron deficiency
anemia has declined in the last three to four decades, it continues to be a major health concern for
low income infants and toddlers in the United States (Crowel et al., 2005). Research has connected
iron deficiency in early childhood with an increased risk for developmental delays (Crowel et al.,
2005). Most clinicians reported that all parents were advised to orally give medication to children
with anemia; however for low income families administering iron was not a priority (Crowel et al.,
2005). Iron deficiency anemia was seen as a minor issue for many low income parents, because it
is a struggle for them to even financially support their families and ultimately parents regularly
have the means to provide the medication for their children (Crowel et al., 2005). Not only does
research support that iron deficiency causes delays for young children, but some previous research
also suggests other health risks may link to development. Welsch,

Graham Greene s Use of Characterization in A Little Place off the Edgware Road
In A little place off the Edgware Road there are two focal characters. We learn the name of only
one of these characters and the other remains unnamed throughout the story. This is the first
interesting thing about Greene s use of characterization. By not naming one of the characters we
see him as more mysterious and it helps us to realise at the end that he is just a figment of Craven
s imagination. Greene writes in the third person rather than giving us the ultimate insight into
Craven s head by writing in the first person. This also gives us a certain distance from Craven and
this is much like real life as we always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recent research on the life of Graham Greene has shown that he hired many prostitutes. This is
reflected in Craven s view that you need money for love, which is what Greene also believed.
Craven is also losing his faith in God.. He asks himself, Why should he be asked to believe in the
resurrection of this body he wanted to forget? We also get the impression from this Craven might
be old and his body decaying. But this decay of his body is not merely in the physical sense. It has
a spiritual meaning too. In the Christian religion resurrection of the body upon the return of Christ
is an important theme. Again this is interesting because it gives us another insight into Greene
himself. He came from a very strict Catholic background which he rebelled against. Consequently
much of his work is about guilt, conscience and the effects of straying from godliness.
Craven finds posters advertising a theatre which is showing a film. This theatre is much like
Craven. Old, decaying and tired. The film he goes to see is about death and suicide. I think that the
fact that this is the only film that is showing is meant to show that death is inevitable and
unavoidable and there is no choice about it, it just happens. There is an interesting line from the
film Craven is watching which says, I am not afraid of death, Lucius in your

Traditional genetic linkage studies and candidate gene methods have been used with reasonably limited achievement in major depression. Genetic models of etiology commonly believe a large number of genes with comparatively little contributions to liability. Progresses in high genotyping and microarray method have made it more possible to discover genes with little effect sizes (Hong and Tsai, 2003). It is of particular clinical concerns those studies which are based on pathophysiological ideas (candidate genes) and in particular those that observe the possibility of patients to respond to particular treatments. Serotonin (5 HT) systems is involved in Genetic susceptibility because tryptophan reduction in healthy individuals is observed to stimulate depressive symptoms only if they have affected relatives (Benkelfat et al., 1994).Polymorphism in the serotonin transporter (5 HTT) gene are of more particular concern in depression. A polymorphism in the 5 promoter region consisting of a short (s) and a long (L) L allele with the s allele being related with reduced 5 HT transmembrane transport and decreased transporter mRNA has been ... Predation is also used to control populations of certain problematic species, such as snails, which pass certain types of diseases to other species including humans, as explained by Molles. They have used crayfish in some places such as Kenya and other East African countries to control a problematic snail population. (Molles, 343) This happens here at times also, with introducing species that will eradicate problem species or invasive species that are taking over watersheds and other ecosystems. Attributed to the Italian poet Petrarch in the fourteenth century, the sonnet is still used by many contemporary writers. The appeal of the sonnet lies in its two part structure, which easily lends itself to the dynamics of much human emotional experience and to the intellectual mode of human sensibility for argument based on complication and resolution. A different rhyme scheme and thus a different convention of logical and rhetorical organization determines the differences between the two sonnet forms. In the Petrarchian sonnet the problem is solved by reasoned perception or a meditative process. The Shakespearean sonnet maintains the basic two part structure of conflict and resolution, now presented in fourteen lines of three quatrains and a concluding rhyming couplet. Each quatrain presents a further aspect of a problem, conflict, or idea. The resolution occurs in the last two of a rhyming couplet, achieved through logical cleverness that summarizes or ties together what has been expressed in the three quatrains. The rhyme scheme, subject to variation, is abab, cdcd, efef, gg in iambic pentameter. The sonnet sequence is a gathering together of a number of sonnets to present a narrative or examine a larger theme. Shakespeare s sequence, like Sydney s, was intended as a series of love poems to celebrate the poet s affections for a young male friend. The poems were collected and published as a sequence in 1609, though initially they were private poems meant for a small circle of writers and friends, not for publication. There are 154 sonnets in the sequence. Some scholars speculate these are ones that remain from a longer work, thus accounting for the sonnet s problems in chronology, thematic development, and connections between individual poems. White privilege can be defined as advantages that assist white individuals in flourishing and gaining success. Privilege is in and of itself a struggle to equality. The advantages in privilege display the inequality that is in our society towards those who are not white. We as a society usually do not see the inequality in the opportunity and quality of life amongst those of different races, and this results from the fact of wealthy white counterparts being in control and in power since the birth of this nation. This is because the acceptance in racial equality has been said to counter deeply rooted beliefs in racial inequality and political, legal, and customary practices of racial discrimination and oppression. Therefore, racial equality is stated in antiracist philosophy and in antiracist political mobilization. With this said, as citizens, are we still equal? The answer to that question is no . The world is living in Orwellian times where citizens are equal, but some citizens are more equal than others. While some agree, there are many groups that are pushing for reform and equality, such as Take Back Our Republic, By The People, and Common Cause: Holding Power Accountable. Now that the facts are said, we must ask how did we become so unequal? Over time, big corporations, racial groups, and corruption in government have been advocating inequality for the minority. Some people are filled with wrong ideas and beliefs that attack those in the minority group, especially people of color. Franklin said, almost from the beginning of their national history, people have been relentless, at times ruthless, in their pursuit of equality. Heritage in this story is understood as recognizing from where a person has originated. Walker correspondingly compares inheritanceto art, something which should be used daily and passed on to future generations. Heritage and inheritance both have the same French root word: heriter meaning inherit, implying that for one to truly realize and grasp their heritage they must first accept what they have inherited, in this case the quilts, and utilize them. In the story, being aware of one s heritage is a significant conflict that troubles the characters. At the end, Mama and Maggie are the ones that carry on their tradition in the present and truly understand the true meaning of heritage. Throughout the story exists an overlying theme of comprehension of one s heritage and ancestry. In contract to this theme, Dee is viewed as hypocritical when claiming she is reconnecting to her African roots, her supposed heritage, because numerous times she contradicts her beliefs and principles she is to uphold. The Battle Of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler Essay On February 27 of 2014, masked Russian troops without insignia infiltrated in south Ukraine and captured strategic sites across Crimea, a rugged peninsula that strategically juts in the Black Sea. Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international consternation against Russia, which resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton likened the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March 7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014). Welding must be done carefully to avoid contamination and machining must be done precisely. Titanium is very reactive to atmospheric gases and can result in degradation in the material. Titanium is weldable in annealing conditions but provide limited weld ductility and heat affected zone ductility. It can also be significantly strengthened by cold working. • 50. Ernest Shackleton And The Epic Voyage Of The Endurance When an event occurs in our lives, whether it be good or bad, we must each ask ourselves, What role did I play in this? (Benson, 2017). This question helps us to find the beginning of the path we are currently set upon by looking back on outcomes determined by the decisions we have made. Only whist looking back are we able to ask this simple question as we gain an understanding of where we were, as well as where we currently are. Leadership in Crisis: Ernest Shackleton and the Epic Voyage of the Endurance, a case published by The Harvard Business School, provides an opportunity to observe the role Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, an Irish explorer in the Royal Geographic Society, played that led to his vessel and crew stranded in the... Big hairy and audacious, should never be a sure bet, it will have perhaps only a 50 70% probability of success, but the organization must believe it can reach the goal anyway. (Collins Porras, 1996, p. 10). In 1907, in pursuit of victory in the formidable race to the South Pole, Shackleton and his crew set off unified in their goal. Two years later they returned home unsuccessful in their endeavor. In May of 1912, Shackleton received news that Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and his team had become the first expedition to reach the South Pole (Koehn, 2013, 2010, p. 5). The race was over, and a winner declared. Shackleton missed out on his opportunity to be the first, the exploration had been done. A goal that is big, hairy and audacious, could not be accurately describe a goal that possesses no risk of failure. It is how Shackleton approaches this failure that caused me to understand what it means to be a visionary. A finish line is more than just a victory or a loss, but the end of a journey, but there are many more to be had, and one must again set off. A visionary is not someone who sits aside whilst ruminating about what could be but alternatively someone who is able to create a vision grounded in possibility. Shackleton stands out as a visionary explorer by being able to set aside what Collins and Porras define as the We ve Arrived syndrome (Collins Porras, 1996, p. 12). No matter the outcome ... FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION Miami, Florida AN ANALYSIS OF ARTICLES RELATED TO: The impact of poverty on children s development and early childhood programs A literature review submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the course SPS6805 To Dr. Phil Lazarus by Jessica R. Rothman Fall 2014 The purpose of this literature review was to review articles examining the influence poverty may or may not have on young children. Additionally, after determining risks children living in poverty face, a review of literature studying early intervention preschool programs and how they may aid in reducing some of the risks for those children. Most research is consistent with suggesting that early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clear associations between nutritional deficiencies and psychosocial effects have been made. However, the results of the study indicated malnutrition impact on development of infants and toddlers was unknown, but malnutrition in children led to iron deficiency anemia (Skalicky et al., 2006). An additional study focused on the iron deficiency concern that exists among low income toddlers in the United States (Crowel et al., 2005). Even though the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia has declined in the last three to four decades, it continues to be a major health concern for low income infants and toddlers in the United States (Crowel et al., 2005). Research has connected iron deficiency in early childhood with an increased risk for developmental delays (Crowel et al., 2005). Most clinicians reported that all parents were advised to orally give medication to children with anemia; however for low income families administering iron was not a priority (Crowel et al., 2005). Iron deficiency anemia was seen as a minor issue for many low income parents, because it is a struggle for them to even financially support their families and ultimately parents regularly have the means to provide the medication for their children (Crowel et al., 2005). Not only does research support that iron deficiency causes delays for young children, but some previous research also suggests other health risks may link to development. Welsch, ... • 52. Graham Greene s Use of Characterization in A Little Place... Graham Greene s Use of Characterization in A Little Place off the Edgware Road In A little place off the Edgware Road there are two focal characters. We learn the name of only one of these characters and the other remains unnamed throughout the story. This is the first interesting thing about Greene s use of characterization. By not naming one of the characters we see him as more mysterious and it helps us to realise at the end that he is just a figment of Craven s imagination. Greene writes in the third person rather than giving us the ultimate insight into Craven s head by writing in the first person. This also gives us a certain distance from Craven and this is much like real life as we always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recent research on the life of Graham Greene has shown that he hired many prostitutes. This is reflected in Craven s view that you need money for love, which is what Greene also believed. Craven is also losing his faith in God.. He asks himself, Why should he be asked to believe in the resurrection of this body he wanted to forget? We also get the impression from this Craven might be old and his body decaying. But this decay of his body is not merely in the physical sense. It has a spiritual meaning too. In the Christian religion resurrection of the body upon the return of Christ is an important theme. Again this is interesting because it gives us another insight into Greene himself. He came from a very strict Catholic background which he rebelled against. Consequently much of his work is about guilt, conscience and the effects of straying from godliness. Craven finds posters advertising a theatre which is showing a film. This theatre is much like Craven. Old, decaying and tired. The film he goes to see is about death and suicide. I think that the fact that this is the only film that is showing is meant to show that death is inevitable and unavoidable and there is no choice about it, it just happens. There is an interesting line from the film Craven is watching which says, I am not afraid of death, Lucius in your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
