Assimilation Diffusion Multiculturalism
Assimilation, Diffusion and Multiculturalism
Assimilation, diffusion and multiculturalism are terms that are often applied to shape our culture.
These terms have positive and also negative impacts on our life. Assimilation is the process
happens where members of a minority group begin to lose their own ideas and take on the cultural
characteristics of the majority. It can be applied on a small and large scale. Cultural assimilation
occurs when a person immigrates into another country and drops his or her own culture to learn new
country s language, integrates into society. Another example of assimilation can be shown in
Canada; it happened when residential schools that existed in Canada took young First Nations and
tried to assimilate them

The Leadership Of A Servant Leader
Servant leadership is crucial in any form of leadership. Some would even argue that servant
leadership is the best form of leadership. When the topic of servant leadership arises, there is one
name that stands out amongst the greats: Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was known for his quiet,
servantly form of leadership that had an immense impact on the world. It is said that Gandhi was
the greatest servant leader in history, second only to Christ. In order to see the leadership of this
man, the story of his life must be outlined. Mahatma Gandhi (born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi)
was born on October 2nd, 1869 in Porbandar, India. His mother, Putibai, was a very religious
woman. His father, Karamchand, was the chief minister of Porbandar. Gandhi was brought up in
the Jainism faith, focusing on fasting, meditation non violence, vegetarianism, and treating all
living things with respect and life. Gandhi was married to Kasturba Makanji when they were both
thirteen through an arranged marriage. Gandhi worked greatly with the civil rights movement. He
was once thrown off a train for being Indian, and instead of lashing out, decided to react in a civil
and non violent manner. From then on, he vowed to fight color segregation. Gandhi became part of
the Natal Indian Congress while living in South Africa. Using this political movement, Gandhi
pushed his ideas of non violent civil protest, which helped him to oppose the introduction of
registration for all Indians in South

Does Red Meat Cause Cancer Essay
I was raised in a family you could recognize as those customers who stacked their shopping cart to
the maximum. Who you would see at the store and think to yourself how many people are they
feeding? or they definitely need another cart. Don t get me wrong, we are a big family, which
requires a generous amount of food. However, the items packed into that shopping cart was junk
food ranging from chips, donuts, instant meals and other unhealthy foods.
I recall just a few years ago as I was exploring the web, I came across an article that stated: red
meats can cause cancer. I thought it was just a hoax, I was about to laugh it off considering how
much us Americans eat red meat. I m not sure what changed my mind but I decided to do more
research on this topic so I simply typed in the google search engine does red meat cause cancer?
And I was surprised. I didn t even have to click on a link, at the top of the page it stated that yes red
meat does in fact cause cancer. I was bewildered by this if it s proven to cause cancer why aren t
people aware of this? Or are they aware, and could I compare it to something ... Show more content

I also acknowledge the fact that on almost all environmental protection websites they do not list
agricultural farming as a danger to the environment. Even though animal agriculture has been
confirmed to be the number one cause of pollution to our earth. Nevertheless what I do not
understand is people who recognize these facts yet continue to put their money into such
businesses. If you re not willing to put down that hamburger for your own health benefits then how
about thinking of others who are starving because the food is being fed to animals instead of them,
or think of the animals who are being slaughtered so inhumanely. Put it down for our planet
because it s a fact that we will not have enough land to produce the amounts of food we are

Beast Fables In The Manciple s Tale
Beast fables function on both a covert and over basis in narrative. The beast fable is a type of fable
in which human behavior and weaknesses are subject to scrutiny by reflection into the animal
kingdom. The Manciple s Tale within Chaucer s Canterbury Tales depicts the discourse between
hierarchical classes in relationship with ideals and societal expectations regarding agency within
the class system implying that humans are the monsters because of their heinous actions toward
one another. The class system is stratified within the tale through careful depictions of Phoebus, his
wife, and the crow they serve to illustrate the inconsistencies that accompany the stagnant medieval
social hierarchy, while questioning the implications of violating one s expected norms. The crow
in the Manciple s Tale can be seen as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous themes such as the corruptness of human nature, the futility of striving for better, and
the mutability of human will and deeds are presented to the audience again, but in a new
perspective possibly because the pilgrimage is about the end. Simultaneously, the lack of agency
the wife has works to strengthen the discourse between the societal stations, and the implications
of being of high, middle, or lower class. Later, in lines 172 and 173 Chaucer again calls the
medieval hierarchy into question, For ever this bird will work diligently to escape out of his cage,
if he can. Chaucer implies that cage of the immobile class system employed during this time period
should be tested, and potentially reformed. However, the climactic othering and silencing of the
crow at the tales end implies that there are obvious consequences for overstepping one s station.
The reading suggests that hierarchical status influences perception or consequential repercussions

The Case of Bob and Sue is a complicated one, in the first situation they are in a furniture store. In
the furniture store, Bob and Sue were looking to purchase a living room set and they found one,
but they needed some time to check their finance before they make any decision. However, the
salesperson from the furniture store assures them that they will hold the living room set for 10 days
at $2500. He wrote down the name of the unit, price and for how long it will be held. Plus, he
signed the card and gave it to Bob. But when Bob and Sue returns to purchase the living room set

But when they get back they found someone s name Henry purchase those watches and claim
that he paid a fair price. The issue here is should they go after Gary the shop owner or they
should go after Henry and demand for their watches. In a situation as this Bob and Sue should go
after the store owner Gray. Because, if they go after Henry to recover their watches the court
will deny their request. Because Henry is a bona fide purchaser for value it means he purchase
those watches under the circumstances that suggest that it was a legitimate deal between Gary
and him. Therefore, Henry will acquire a legal title, which superior than the original owner.
Although Gary was not the real owner he was a merchant and he deals with similar kind of goods
it gives him a voidable title to transfer all rights. And we can find this under UCC Sec. 2 403

Osteoporosis In Sport
For most female teenage athletes, staying healthy is one of the key reasons they participate in
athletics. Playing sports helps with things such as building higher self esteem as well as
improved physical and mental health. Unfortunately, some young female athletes are also
experiencing the female athlete triad. This is composed of three issues. First, there are eating
disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia. Second, the girl may experience irregular menstrual cycles,
and in some cases, the loss of a period for three or more months, known as ameorrhea. The final
issue is weakened bones, also called osteoporosis. Female athletes may experience one or more of
these issues. According to a recent Huffington Post article, which got its information

All Gave Some, Some Gave All
A normal sitting at El Patio is pretty regular, but this time it wasn t so normal. Justin Lawson and
I were eating, when all of a sudden he received a text from an unknown sender. The message read
Hey Justin would you and a few of your football teammates like to voluntarily be the pallbearer for
an ex marine? His name was Mr. Hunter. Justin immediately showed me the message without
thought I wonder who we should ask to help, because we want the most respectful people we

on a big poster and he was announcing our names, and telling a summary of what had happened,
and the event kept growing, and growing, until the picture and story of us, normal Winnfield,
football players had grown so much that we were on
trump news , but that wasn t it. The week after that at a pep rally, coach Banxton got on stage
and announced I d like to have everyone s undivided attention. I want to recognize the football
players that have made such and impact on not only me, our community, or the state, but the
impact that they ve made in this country. His had folders in his hand, he called out pour names,
and we all went up on stage to get these certificates that Ralph Abraham had sent us, all six of us
standing on stage, and the whole crowd gave us a standing ovation. Listening to the crowd with
so much joy, clapping and screaming, it made these other five men and I feel so wonderful.
Knowing that we had touched all these people just by this one simple action as being the

My Long Term Educational And Professional Goals
When beginning the psychology major, I was unsure of what my long term educational and
professional goals were. Now that I am in my senior year, I am still not positive about my path
overall path. However, I do have a plan that I feel will work perfect for me. I am reaching a time in
my life where I will be financial stable, be married, have a partner to share responsibilities, and have
the knowledge to be the best parent possible. I think it is important for one parent to be home
before the children enter preschool. Once the children are entered in school, I feel it would be a
good time for me to either go back to school or choose a career I can achieve with my bachelor s
degree. If I were to go back to school, it would most likely be to obtain a master s degree for
counseling. I am very interested in Central Washington University s Master Degree in Applied
Behavior Analysis. In ten years, if I complete my masters, I see myself working with families,
children or adolescents. This might be either in an office setting or school setting. I know that I
would not want to go to the client s home as the primary setting.
There are several ways in which the courses I have taken at Central Washington University have
influenced personal growth for my educational goals. First, taking PSY 300 research methods, PSY
362 introductory statistics and participating in directed research has contributed immensely to my
personal growth. Writing a research proposal in PSY 300 was very

Comparison Of Lone Survivor And The Odyssey
Many cities of men he saw and learned their minds, many pains he suffered, heartsick on the open
sea, fighting to save his life and bring his comrades home. (Homer77) In Lone Survivor, and The
Odyssey, men must make the difficult journey home, struggling through many obstacles and
hardships. These sources are very different, but they also hold some similarities such as obstacles,
desire, and a sense of duty.
In the beginning of Lone Survivor, four men undertake a mission to take down the leader of the
Taliban. They finally reach the mountain above where the village is located, and immediately
spots the Taliban leader. Mike Murphy, their lutenaint, says to move up higher into the trees.
While resting, they awake to the sound of goat bells, and take the three Taliban sheepherders as
prisoners for the moment. They find a walkie talkie, and Mike, and his men, start arguing over
the right thing to do, to kill the men, tie them up and let them die on their own, or to release them
and move up. They argue as to whether or not to follow their rules of engagement, and not kill
unless fired upon, or do just kill them. Finally, they decide to let them go, and follow the rules of
engagement. If we kill these kids, it s International news. CNN doesn t care about Rules of
Engagement. SEALs kill kids. That s the story. Forever. Let them go. Shut it down. (Berg52)
Everybody has something they want. For the characters in The Odyssey, and Lone Survivor, they
only want one thing; to get home to their loved ones. The beginning of Lone Survivor starts out
with Mike Murphey looking at an Arabian horse that his girlfriend really wants as a wedding gift.
Odysseus wants to be home, and away from the terrible waters of the sea (Homer179) In the
middle of the book, Danny, one of the Seals in the mission, falls to the ground, shot. The Taliban
think he is dead, so they look in his pockets and find a sheet of paper full of colors. Without a
thought, they toss it to the ground. Little do they know, that that paper was what his wife sent him,
asking what color tile they should have. Danny looks down past his knife. The Tile samples page
has fallen out of his pocket. Blood stained. Danny stares at the paper. (Berg84)

The Functions of RSA SecurID Tokens and the Impacts of...
Cybersecurity is meant to protect computers, networks and data from unauthorized access,
vulnerabilities and attacks. Companies around the world have experienced many cyber attacks in
the last decade. Most companies were targeted in hopes of obtaining confidential information. Some
companies were breached to find information that would allow the attackers to target their
customers. One such attackhappened to the security company RSA when their SecurIDtokens were
compromised. This paper will examine how RSA SecurID token technology works, how the RSA
company network was breached, what information was stolen, and the impacts that resulted from
the initial attack.
RSA is a security division, which specializes in computer and network security, of the parent
company known as EMC. The company is most known for their SecurID tokens which are used in
two factor authentication systems for various companies. Two factor authentication is when an
identity can be confirmed through two factors, in this case what the user knows and what the user
has, ultimately creating a second layer to the authentication process. RSA SecurID tokens work by
linking a user to a token that will randomly generate a time based number that changes frequently. A
user is forced to log in to a company network by entering their username, password and the number
shown on their token. A company will have an authentication server that will know and confirm the
number showing on the token which proves the user

Edward Said States Essay
No Place Like Home Edward Said s States is an excerpt from his book After the Last Sky:
Palestinian Lives. It s a story about Palestine, once a country, but now spread out into a million
pieces of the people that once called it home. The pieces being more of memories of a time when
Palestinians could be who they are, not a scattered and forgotten people. They all face a new
struggle, a struggle to find their identity. Identity who we are, where we come from, what we are
is difficult to maintain in exile. Most other people take their identity for granted. Not the
Palestinian, who is required to show proofs of identity more or less constantly. (Page 546) Said,

In my opinion, I don t know if any other approach would have been this effective. This allows we
as readers to see more into the lives of Palestinians, rather than just read about it. Said starts off
the story describing a picture of the wedding of a Palestinian couple. Instead of describing the
obvious of what was happening in the picture, Said goes on to describe it in a way that only a
true Palestinian would be able to see. Cutting across the wedding party s path here is the ever
present Mercedes, emblazoned with its extra mark of authenticity, the proud D for Deutschland. A
rare luxury in the West, the Mercedes usually secondhand and smuggled in in the commonest of
cars in the Levant. (Page 541) To someone who did not grow up in Palestine, they would not know
this piece of information. Pictures such as this would provoke feelings and memories only a
Palestinian would know. They would remember a time that they were forced to forget. A time
when they were forced to leave the only home they ever knew. Before I read what Said had to
say about his point of view, I never would have thought farther into the picture other than the fact
it was a picture of someone s wedding day. This is a good example of why Said s choice of hybrid
writing is effective in what he wants us as readers to know. It brings us into his mind and allows us
to understand a little better.

Critical Analysis Of Madame Bovary

Professor O Har
A Fantasy World
In Madame Bovary, Gustave Flaubert shapes Emma, the protagonist, into a woman who
deceives herself, through romantic novels, into believing her life is better than it actually is.
Emma like most things in her life romanticized what marriage would do for her. At the start of
her marriage to Charles, she believed marriage would be the means at which she transitioned
from a farm girl to a wealthy woman. She believed that marriage would bring her all she had
longed for. However, her marriage to Charles is opposite to that. Thus, she is constantly searching
for something or someone to satisfy her. She spends majority of the novel aspiring to be a part of
the upper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flaubert use of they and them, further separates Emma from the festivities of the upper class.
Additionally, as Emma is preparing for the ball, she is striving to appear as extravagant as
possible. She did her hair according to the directions of the hairdresser, and put on the barege
dress (Flaubert, 42 44) Thus, Flaubert emphasizes that Emma s is unable to prepare for the ball
without directions implying that she is not able to be a part of the upper class events without
guidance. Therefore, her only connection to the upper class at the ball are her clothes. Also,
Flaubert further separates Emma and Charles from the rest of the guest, by having them arrive in a
dog cart (Flaubert, 41). Hence, Flaubert advocates that no matter how much the middle class
aspires to be a part of the upper class through material items they will never have the means to do
so. Flaubert further emphasizes the separation between Emma and the rest of the guests when he
writes: Emma was listening to a conversation full of words she did not understand (Flaubert, 45).
Flaubert is highlighting how out of place Emma is, yet how aloof Emma remains. She is still
listening even though she doesn t understand what they are saying. Overall, Flaubert utilizes
perspective in order to highlight Emma s aspirations to be a part of the upper class, through her
appearance and material items. Ultimately, Flaubert is critiquing the French middle class in that

The Murderer-Personal Narrative
It was a cold grey day in late November. The weather had changed overnight, when a backing
wind brought a granite sky and a mizzling rain with it, and although it was now only a little after
two o clock in the afternoon the pallor of a winter evening seemed to have closed upon the hills,
cloaking them in mist. It would be dark by four. The air was clammy cold, and for all the tightly
closed windows it penetrated the interior of the coach. The leather seats felt damp to the hands,
and there must have been a small crack in the roof, because now and again little drips of rain fell
softly through, smudging the leather and leaving a dark blue stain like a splodge of ink. The wind

Whether the driver heard him or not was uncertain: it seemed more likely that the stream of
reproaches was carried away in the wind, for the old fellow, after waiting a moment, put up the

more in his corner, wrapped his blanket about his knees and muttered in his beard. His nearest
neighbour, a jovial, red faced woman in a blue cloak, sighed heavily, in sympathy, and, with a
wink to anyone who might be looking and a jerk of her head towards the old man, she remarked
for at least the twentieth time that it was the dirtiest night she ever remembered, and she had
known some; that it was proper old weather and no mistaking it for summer this time; and,
burrowing into the depths of a large basket, she brought out a great hunk of cake and plunged into

Relationship of Petruchio and Katherina in William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew The
Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare is a humorous play which focuses on Petruchio and
Katherina s relationship. It explores ideas of marriage including the impact of money in
surrounding characters lives. This creates ideal opportunities for dramatic impact, which will vary
in effect on the Elizabethan, and modern day audiences especially when various dilemmas are
presented. Shakespeare uses a range of devices in order to achieve this. Before Petruchio and

Petruchio s intelligence is shown as he makes the comparison to a well established shrew and
his strength is confirmed implying he will be more than able to cope with Katherina.
Shakespeare equips Katherina with equal attributes. Her strength is made known to the audience
when she ties up her sister and hits her music teacher over the head. This leaves the audience
wondering who will be the dominant person in the relationship and which one will eventually
back down and give in. The first meeting between the two central characters includes the use of
quick witted responses and puns within the dialogue. In a recent film Ten things I hate about you
this scene was set in a paintball arena comparing shots and reflexes to the ability to out wit the
opponent. Katherina asks, What is your crest? Petruchio responds A combless cock, so Kate will
be my hen . Petruchio quickly reverses the question implying a sexual tone in doing so adopting a
flirtatious nature. Some people in a modern day audience may feel that Petruchio is perhaps
moving too fast as they have just met and should wait a bit before revealing his feelings in such a
manner. Katherina asks the question in an insulting tone: claiming that Petruchio s crest is a
coxcomb . She is obviously

Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis
Suicide In The Trenches
In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language
techniques to show his perspective on the true meaning of war.
For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a
simple soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him
to committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message.
Sneak home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak

the rhyme of brain and again at line eight tries to form a connection that although a young boy
was convinced to join the war and fought tremendously for his country and himself. However, in
the end, he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and
selfish war is. The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to
return. This is effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there
innocent lives at risk which creates the bitter mood.
The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the
word kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to
describe the facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that
expresses the lack of empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a
sarcastic tone that they think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their
lives with nothing in return and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in
reality the public cannot imagine what these children are going through. This is how the word
kindling reveals a shallow side of everyone s personality.
In my personal opinion, the last stanza is the strongest and most impactful stanza. While the
previous two stanzas shows the transformation of the boy

Tactical Intelligence Research Paper
Intelligence can have many meanings depending on how you use it, but it is a common mistake to
mix up intelligence as synonymous with information. This is wrong as, information is not
intelligence, which has caused the misuse of the phrase collecting intelligence instead of collecting
information. Intelligenceis a structure, a process and a product. In most police services, the
intelligence unit or section is a recognized internal organization with people, skills, methods and an
organizational structure. Although intelligence may be collected by and shared with intelligence
agencies and bureaus, field operations generally collect information or data. The distinction
between tactical and strategic intelligence is often misconstrued. Tactical... Show more content on

It allows a supportive and informed command structure and it often is the heart of an
organization‐wide approach to policing. Also it allows integrated crime and criminal analysis
with a focus on prolific and serious offenders. Both strategic and tactical tasking meetings take
place that allows data to be sufficiently complete, reliable and available to support quality products
that influence decision‐making when used with prevention, disruption and enforcement. These
benefits help prevent crime by creating a police force that is more efficient with its resources.
There is also a growing recognition within policing that external agencies may hold the key to
long term crime reduction. These agencies, such as local councils, housing authorities, and health
and education departments, are believed to have a greater potential to impact a wider range of
causal factors. (Ericson Haggerty, 2001) As agencies share information amongst each other, a
larger network of intelligence is created, which proponents hope, when used effectively, will cause
a substantial decrease in crime. (Ratcliffe, 2003) Task Forces are a major way to benefit from
intelligence. By sharing intelligence between federal, state and local law enforcement. These group
initiatives, give the ability to target a particular criminal activity, and often in a particular
geographical area. Combining these resources, the intelligence and the manpower of multiple law
enforcement agencies to focus on a particular problem is an effective way to combat

Where s My Teddy Bear
Children do not know the boundaries of rights and wrongs, and it can be said that their ability to
imagine without limit works as strong yet week point. In the section Transgressive Desires of
Teddy Bear Stories, it has a point that talked about how children [unconsciously] desires to play
their most significant role or what I understood as fantasizing about having romantic relationship

The giant mother bear can now remain in the dark forest of the unconscious, hugging a teddy the
size of Eddy, while Eddy can lie in his own bed with his own teddy, a small substitute for a large
desire (Page 17). When I read this quote, I thought that this is great usage of bear images as it

something I have never thought of but it was interesting to think about. This quote is telling us that
bear may act as indicator of gender by listening to way children use language to describe their
actions. Also, from reading this quote, I thought girls would treasure their bears much more than
boys as girls are focusing on the process itself. In my opinion, focusing on only the results tend to
last shorter in our memories as it does not have much connection with the bear without the
recounting how the process

Case Hardening Methods
Case hardening crucial for steel components that are subjected to severe or continuous impacts,
high temperatures and high pressures. It is a heat treatment process that produces the required
attributes of a hard, wear and fatigue resistant surface layer whilst maintaining a tough, durable core
that allows for high stress situations. These properties are achieved by altering the chemical,
metallurgical and physical properties of the components exterior without affecting its more ductile
interior. For gears, case hardening is required to prevent pitting and deformation of the gears teeth
under cyclic stresses. This method is preferred to through hardening, which is the uniform
hardening of the entire component, as hardened metal is relatively less ductile and although strong,
would not offer the same degree of toughness desired at its core.
There are several different case hardening techniques used in the manufacturing industry. The
different methods determine which physical properties, (such as surface hardness, strength,
ductility, case depth and wear resistance) the component gets. This can be done by altering
temperatures, heat source, time period, and quench media.
Carburising
This is a diffusion based process used on low carbon or mild steels where a component is subjected
to thermochemical phases. The component is packed in a carbon rich environment at high

Young Palestinian Voices From East Jerusalem Essay
The War of 1967 concluded with Israeli control of Jordanian territories that included Palestinian
communities in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. In Young Palestinian Voices from East
Jerusalem, Road AbuZayyad claims how the Israeli government s influence and control in East
Jerusalem affected the lives of the Palestinians living in the region. In The Birth of Core Issues:
The West Bankand East JerusalemUnder Israeli Administration, Moshe Elad recounts how issues,
predominantly concerning the Arab and Jewish conflict, arose with the implementation of an Israeli
Administration after the War of 1967. The articles share how the Israeli control of East Jerusalem
cultivated the conflict, however, each article has a focus on different aspects of the Israeli
government that created the Arab and Jewish conflict. While Elad discusses how the Israeli
Administration increased Arab Israeli conflict, Abuzayyad focuses on how Israelization, the capture
of territory and enforcement of Jewish law, created these conflicts. Additionally, in this paper, I will
summarize each of the articles and evaluate them based on their organization, quality of evidence,
and perspective. While AbuZayyad effectively establishes his thesis through the use of relevant
personal accounts, experiences, and descriptions, Elad evaluates the administration through a
historical perspective but fails to adequately prove his thesis due to his lack of relevant evidence
and convoluted structure.

Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Analysis
Curt Lemon dies (guess everyone who dies has a color related name?), which leads O Brien to

can t possibly capture them. Only emotional truth, or story truth, can, and O Brien uses it
liberally. Tim kills a guy on a trail and feels guilty about it, so he makes up a back story for the
kid in order to make the victim more human. Rat Kiley tells us the creepiest story in the world,
Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, in which a good down home American girl is seduced by the
Vietnam War into becoming a creepy jungle killer. Later, Kiowa drowns in a field that s literally
full of poop, and we start to talk about blame. Then, in Good Form, O Brien

Reflection On Happiness
Webster dictionary defines happiness as good fortune, a state of being well being and
contentment, a pleasurable or satisfying experience, but everyone has a different idea of what
happiness is. Some people think of happiness as an object; a person, place or thing. John Stuart
Mill believed that Those only are happy who have their minds fixed on some object other than their
own happiness; on the happiness of others, on the improvement of mankind. I agree with this quote
because when I m not focusing on the fact that I want to be happy I m the happiest. Thomas
Carlyle opinion was that every person believed they had the right to be happy. And despite new
improvements in life the percentages of happiness has not changed. When I think of John Stuart Mill
s statement about only finding happiness if your mindis fixed on something other than happiness, I
think of a baby, because babies don t worry about being happy, they don t see it as a need or
something they have to be since they are so young and don t quite understand happiness. When
we smile at a baby they smile back, but as we grow and get older we think too much about what
makes us happy and how to get into that state of mind. We focus our entire life on being happy,
thinking if we just get this or get that it will make us happy. We put our happiness into other
people, other places and other things. Some put their happiness in the form of a season of the
year, or a place they want to live someday or a job they want

What Is Asian Americans Considered A Model Minority
Though Asians make up the largest portion of the world s population, Asian Americans are one of
the least represented minority groups within the United States. Out of an estimated 318 million
people living in the U.S., Asians account for 5.2%, or approximately 17 million people. Compared
to Hispanics at 54 million and African Americans at 42 million, Asians and/or Asian Americans are
vastly outnumbered by the two other major minority groups and even more so by the majority,
European Americans. Even though Asians are typically considered the model minority , they are
faced with the same issues that plague many other minority groups within the U.S. today to include
stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination and ethnocentrism. There has been a history of
discriminatory national policies directed at the immigration of Asians to the U.S. and in times of
duress, the labeling and targeted institutional discrimination of specific ethnicities of Asian
Americans as traitors based solely on country of origin and not on the deeds and actions of said
U.S. citizens (Japanese internment camps of World War II). The label Asian American represents
over 40 different subgroups, with each having their own customs, values, and languages. Very
rarely does one stop and think of the diversity that the label Asian American represents. It can
sometimes be easy to fall into the practice of believing that all Asian Americans are the same,
unless of course you deal with a variety of different ethnicities

The mood of The Black Cat is one of perverseness, fright, and uneasiness. The narrator is clearly

narrator leads up to the way they discover he murdered his wife.
The Black Cat has a variety of examples of mood, the black cat, hideous, hidden behind the wall,

exposed when he bangs on the wall, prompting the black cat to howl, and revealing to the stunned
policemen, the secret hidden behind the wall. The narrator describes the cat as a Nightmare, The

The Tale of Bigfoot
The tale of Bigfoot or Sasquatch traces its origins back to the Native American tribes of the
Northwestern part of the United States and Canada. The natives told this tale of a group of giant
hairy wild ape man like people that protect the forests to give reason for respecting nature and
preserve order. Bigfootsightings have spread throughout the United States and the world. Our
fascination with this creature have spiraled into almost mass hysteria among people to find and
prove this creature is real. I decided to observe and analyze the film Bigfoot.
When watching the film Bigfoot created in 1970 directed by Robert Slatzer and starring John
Carradine and Joi Lansing I have made connections to the concepts and theories we have
discussed in class. To name some of these theorists and concepts such as, Mary Douglas theory of
dirt, Aristotle s conceptualization of reproduction, Freud s uncanny and the double, and Ann
Ratcliff s difference between terror and horror. Despite the terrible and cheesy 1970 s effects this
movie is actually enjoyable to watch and the perfect movie for analyzing the theoretical concepts
we have learned throughout the semester. The film was actually shot in undisclosed mountain
wilderness locations where Bigfoot was alleged to have been sighted. The movie begins with a
women Joi Landis (Joi Lansing) having to jump out of her single engine airplane and parachutes

Wireless Technologies
Wireless Technologies
Introduction
As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as
new applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the
U.S. Naval Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently
the Electrical Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless
laptops/desktops available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the
technical research necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the
Naval Academy should invest.
Background
In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more

Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer.
The bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each
technology will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for
multiple access points to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users.
Current USNA Uses
The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point
and 24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either
simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used.
The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless
NIC cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access.
Recommendation
The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54
Mbps throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54
Mbps is shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of
20 midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances

Science Fiction And Cultural Values
Science Fiction and Cultural Values
Introduction
Science fiction is a genre of creative writing which has stories that are connected with the future of
technology and science. This style of writing is often seen in graphic novels, fiction novels,
television series, and in film. Some common portrayals of science fiction include time and space
travel. At times, these stories feature life that is found on other planets apart from Earth. The tales
are usually based on new technologies, different social systems and scientific discoveries. Science
fiction may seem to be a fantasy because the technologies involved sometimes look unrealistic.
However, that fantasy becomes a reality when it changes how people view their daily lives.
History of science fiction
Philosophical stories and texts from centuries ago have some imagery that relates back to
science fiction. The stories imply that, even then, they predicted advances in science in future
years to come. Religious poems and stories that talk about the creation or demolition of the
universe have some elements that are like the elements of Science fiction. The powers used by
science fiction can be associated with those of the gods during and before biblical times. An
example of an old philosophical text which can be associated with science fiction is Plato s The
Republic . The topics and adventures discussed in the text are viewed as a fantasy and do not seem
practical in real life because they cannot be experienced using normal

Recourses are released to be used for other resources, for example, expansion (increase in supply)
(Anon: 2014).
The firms competitive edge in terms of prices increases. Subsidies enables firms to cover their costs

Disadvantages of subsidies
It is expensive and will require higher taxes (Xayaan: 2013).
The extent of the positive externality is difficult to estimate (Xayaan: 2013).
Giving subsidies to firms may encourage inefficiency, because the firms might rely on government

Although there were no historical events at the time the film was released, it was the end of the
millennium and a new generation was able to learn about the Holocaust through this film. In regard
to the director and producers influencing the film, it is important to know that this film was based
off of the novel written by Jane Yolen. Yolen was raised by two Jewish parents, had Jewish
ancestors, and grew up learning the Jewish traditions. At the time, Donna Deitch, the director,
realized that children and teenagers knew hardly anything about the Holocaust because they were
not being educated about it in school. Her goal when making this film was to educate the children
about the terrible times of the Holocaust. One of the producers, Murray Schisgal, was born and

perspective is seen through the eyes of Hannah Stern. Hannah and Rivkah are the two main

Comparison Of East-West Schism And The Byzantine Empire
The Schism of 1054 (also known as the Great Schism, the East West Schism and the 1000 Year
Schism) was a defining moment in Christianity s two thousand year history, dividing Chalcedonian
Christianity into two separate Church bodies of which would become Western (Roman)
Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy.
Though there is a broad historical, theological and religious consensus that the official break of
communion is dated to the year 1054 C.E., when Pope Leo IX and Patriarch Michael I
excommunicated each other, this was not the sole cause of the schism that would divide these
denominations for some two centuries, but rather, to use the clichГ©, the straw that broke the

THE GREAT SCHISM
The Great Schism split the previously united Christian Faith along doctrinal, theological, linguistic,
political, and geographic lines, each claiming to be the One Holy Catholic (universal) and Apostolic
Church.
One of the main contributing factors to the division has its roots in the non canonical insertion of
the filioque clause into the Nicene Creed by the Roman Church. The inclusion of the Filioque
(Latin for and [from] the Son ) was, and still is not accepted by the Eastern Churches, due to its
consideration as a direct violation of the Council of Ephesus.
Other disputes included:
в‡Ёthe jurisdiction of the Western or Eastern Church in the Balkan States.
в‡ЁDisputes in regards to Papal Authority, primarily over the four remaining patriarchs and the
extent of his authority.
в‡ЁDiffering liturgical practices, which were condemned by the opposing Churches, such as the
use of unleavened bread for the Eucharist in the West and the Eastern practice of intinction
(dipping) of the bread in the wine for Communion.

When the topic of servant leadership arises, there is one name that stands out amongst the greats: Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was known for his quiet, servantly form of leadership that had an immense impact on the world. It is said that Gandhi was the greatest servant leader in history, second only to Christ. In order to see the leadership of this man, the story of his life must be outlined. Mahatma Gandhi (born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) was born on October 2nd, 1869 in Porbandar, India. His mother, Putibai, was a very religious woman. His father, Karamchand, was the chief minister of Porbandar. Gandhi was brought up in the Jainism faith, focusing on fasting, meditation non violence, vegetarianism, and treating all living things with respect and life. Who you would see at the store and think to yourself how many people are they feeding? or they definitely need another cart. Don t get me wrong, we are a big family, which requires a generous amount of food. However, the items packed into that shopping cart was junk food ranging from chips, donuts, instant meals and other unhealthy foods. I recall just a few years ago as I was exploring the web, I came across an article that stated: red meats can cause cancer. I thought it was just a hoax, I was about to laugh it off considering how much us Americans eat red meat. I m not sure what changed my mind but I decided to do more research on this topic so I simply typed in the google search engine does red meat cause cancer? And I was surprised. I didn t even have to click on a link, at the top of the page it stated that yes red meat does in fact cause cancer. I was bewildered by this if it s proven to cause cancer why aren t people aware of this? Or are they aware, and could I compare it to something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though animal agriculture has been confirmed to be the number one cause of pollution to our earth. Nevertheless what I do not understand is people who recognize these facts yet continue to put their money into such businesses. If you re not willing to put down that hamburger for your own health benefits then how about thinking of others who are starving because the food is being fed to animals instead of them, or think of the animals who are being slaughtered so inhumanely. Put it down for our planet because it s a fact that we will not have enough land to produce the amounts of food we are currently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The beast fable is a type of fable in which human behavior and weaknesses are subject to scrutiny by reflection into the animal kingdom. The Manciple s Tale within Chaucer s Canterbury Tales depicts the discourse between hierarchical classes in relationship with ideals and societal expectations regarding agency within the class system implying that humans are the monsters because of their heinous actions toward one another. The class system is stratified within the tale through careful depictions of Phoebus, his wife, and the crow they serve to illustrate the inconsistencies that accompany the stagnant medieval social hierarchy, while questioning the implications of violating one s expected norms. Previous themes such as the corruptness of human nature, the futility of striving for better, and the mutability of human will and deeds are presented to the audience again, but in a new perspective possibly because the pilgrimage is about the end. Simultaneously, the lack of agency the wife has works to strengthen the discourse between the societal stations, and the implications of being of high, middle, or lower class. Later, in lines 172 and 173 Chaucer again calls the medieval hierarchy into question, For ever this bird will work diligently to escape out of his cage, if he can. Chaucer implies that cage of the immobile class system employed during this time period should be tested, and potentially reformed. However, the climactic othering and silencing of the crow at the tales end implies that there are obvious consequences for overstepping one s station. I want to recognize the football players that have made such and impact on not only me, our community, or the state, but the impact that they ve made in this country. His had folders in his hand, he called out pour names, and we all went up on stage to get these certificates that Ralph Abraham had sent us, all six of us standing on stage, and the whole crowd gave us a standing ovation. Listening to the crowd with so much joy, clapping and screaming, it made these other five men and I feel so wonderful. Now that I am in my senior year, I am still not positive about my path overall path. However, I do have a plan that I feel will work perfect for me. I am reaching a time in my life where I will be financial stable, be married, have a partner to share responsibilities, and have the knowledge to be the best parent possible. I think it is important for one parent to be home before the children enter preschool. Once the children are entered in school, I feel it would be a good time for me to either go back to school or choose a career I can achieve with my bachelor s degree. If I were to go back to school, it would most likely be to obtain a master s degree for counseling. I am very interested in Central Washington University s Master Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. In ten years, if I complete my masters, I see myself working with families, children or adolescents. This might be either in an office setting or school setting. I know that I would not want to go to the client s home as the primary setting. (Homer77) In Lone Survivor, and The Odyssey, men must make the difficult journey home, struggling through many obstacles and hardships. These sources are very different, but they also hold some similarities such as obstacles, desire, and a sense of duty. In the beginning of Lone Survivor, four men undertake a mission to take down the leader of the Taliban. They finally reach the mountain above where the village is located, and immediately spots the Taliban leader. Mike Murphy, their lutenaint, says to move up higher into the trees. While resting, they awake to the sound of goat bells, and take the three Taliban sheepherders as prisoners for the moment. They find a walkie talkie, and Mike, and his men, start arguing over the right thing to do, to kill the men, tie them up and let them die on their own, or to release them and move up. They argue as to whether or not to follow their rules of engagement, and not kill unless fired upon, or do just kill them. Finally, they decide to let them go, and follow the rules of engagement. If we kill these kids, it s International news. CNN doesn t care about Rules of Engagement. SEALs kill kids. That s the story. Forever. Let them go. Shut it down. (Berg52) Everybody has something they want. For the characters in The Odyssey, and Lone Survivor, they only want one thing; to get home to their loved ones. The beginning of Lone Survivor starts out with Mike Murphey looking at an Arabian horse that his girlfriend really wants as a wedding gift. Odysseus wants to be home, and away from the terrible waters of the sea (Homer179) In the middle of the book, Danny, one of the Seals in the mission, falls to the ground, shot. The Taliban think he is dead, so they look in his pockets and find a sheet of paper full of colors. Without a thought, they toss it to the ground. Companies around the world have experienced many cyber attacks in the last decade. Most companies were targeted in hopes of obtaining confidential information. Some companies were breached to find information that would allow the attackers to target their customers. One such attackhappened to the security company RSA when their SecurIDtokens were compromised. This paper will examine how RSA SecurID token technology works, how the RSA company network was breached, what information was stolen, and the impacts that resulted from the initial attack. RSA is a security division, which specializes in computer and network security, of the parent company known as EMC. The company is most known for their SecurID tokens which are used in two factor authentication systems for various companies. Two factor authentication is when an identity can be confirmed through two factors, in this case what the user knows and what the user has, ultimately creating a second layer to the authentication process. RSA SecurID tokens work by linking a user to a token that will randomly generate a time based number that changes frequently. A user is forced to log in to a company network by entering their username, password and the number shown on their token. A company will have an authentication server that will know and confirm the number showing on the token which proves the user ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s a story about Palestine, once a country, but now spread out into a million pieces of the people that once called it home. The pieces being more of memories of a time when Palestinians could be who they are, not a scattered and forgotten people. They all face a new struggle, a struggle to find their identity. Identity who we are, where we come from, what we are is difficult to maintain in exile. Most other people take their identity for granted. This allows we as readers to see more into the lives of Palestinians, rather than just read about it. Said starts off the story describing a picture of the wedding of a Palestinian couple. Instead of describing the obvious of what was happening in the picture, Said goes on to describe it in a way that only a true Palestinian would be able to see. Cutting across the wedding party s path here is the ever present Mercedes, emblazoned with its extra mark of authenticity, the proud D for Deutschland. A rare luxury in the West, the Mercedes usually secondhand and smuggled in in the commonest of cars in the Levant. They would remember a time that they were forced to forget. A time when they were forced to leave the only home they ever knew. Before I read what Said had to say about his point of view, I never would have thought farther into the picture other than the fact it was a picture of someone s wedding day. • 14. Critical Analysis Of Madame Bovary Allison Witt September 28, 2017 Literature Core Professor O Har A Fantasy World In Madame Bovary, Gustave Flaubert shapes Emma, the protagonist, into a woman who deceives herself, through romantic novels, into believing her life is better than it actually is. Emma like most things in her life romanticized what marriage would do for her. At the start of her marriage to Charles, she believed marriage would be the means at which she transitioned from a farm girl to a wealthy woman. She believed that marriage would bring her all she had longed for. However, her marriage to Charles is opposite to that. Thus, she is constantly searching for something or someone to satisfy her. She did her hair according to the directions of the hairdresser, and put on the barege dress (Flaubert, 42 44) Thus, Flaubert emphasizes that Emma s is unable to prepare for the ball without directions implying that she is not able to be a part of the upper class events without guidance. Therefore, her only connection to the upper class at the ball are her clothes. Also, Flaubert further separates Emma and Charles from the rest of the guest, by having them arrive in a dog cart (Flaubert, 41). Hence, Flaubert advocates that no matter how much the middle class aspires to be a part of the upper class through material items they will never have the means to do so. Flaubert further emphasizes the separation between Emma and the rest of the guests when he writes: Emma was listening to a conversation full of words she did not understand (Flaubert, 45). Flaubert is highlighting how out of place Emma is, yet how aloof Emma remains. She is still listening even though she doesn t understand what they are saying. Overall, Flaubert utilizes perspective in order to highlight Emma s aspirations to be a part of the upper class, through her appearance and material items. Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis Suicide In The Trenches In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques to show his perspective on the true meaning of war. For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. Sneak home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak home and pray to show their empathy for the soldiers. However, in the end, he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is. The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at risk which creates the bitter mood. The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of everyone s personality. This is wrong as, information is not intelligence, which has caused the misuse of the phrase collecting intelligence instead of collecting information. In most police services, the intelligence unit or section is a recognized internal organization with people, skills, methods and an organizational structure. It is a heat treatment process that produces the required attributes of a hard, wear and fatigue resistant surface layer whilst maintaining a tough, durable core that allows for high stress situations. These properties are achieved by altering the chemical, metallurgical and physical properties of the components exterior without affecting its more ductile interior. For gears, case hardening is required to prevent pitting and deformation of the gears teeth under cyclic stresses. This method is preferred to through hardening, which is the uniform hardening of the entire component, as hardened metal is relatively less ductile and although strong, would not offer the same degree of toughness desired at its core. There are several different case hardening techniques used in the manufacturing industry. The different methods determine which physical properties, (such as surface hardness, strength, ductility, case depth and wear resistance) the component gets. Reflection On Happiness Webster dictionary defines happiness as good fortune, a state of being well being and contentment, a pleasurable or satisfying experience, but everyone has a different idea of what happiness is. Some people think of happiness as an object; a person, place or thing. John Stuart Mill believed that Those only are happy who have their minds fixed on some object other than their own happiness; on the happiness of others, on the improvement of mankind. I agree with this quote because when I m not focusing on the fact that I want to be happy I m the happiest. Thomas Carlyle opinion was that every person believed they had the right to be happy. And despite new improvements in life the percentages of happiness has not changed. When I think of John Stuart Mill s statement about only finding happiness if your mindis fixed on something other than happiness, I think of a baby, because babies don t worry about being happy, they don t see it as a need or something they have to be since they are so young and don t quite understand happiness. When we smile at a baby they smile back, but as we grow and get older we think too much about what makes us happy and how to get into that state of mind. We focus our entire life on being happy, thinking if we just get this or get that it will make us happy. We put our happiness into other people, other places and other things. Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer. The bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each technology will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for multiple access points to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users. Current USNA Uses The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point and 24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used. The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless NIC cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access. Recommendation The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54 Mbps throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54 Mbps is shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of 20 midshipmen operating simultaneously. • 31. Science Fiction And Cultural Values Science Fiction and Cultural Values Introduction Science fiction is a genre of creative writing which has stories that are connected with the future of technology and science. This style of writing is often seen in graphic novels, fiction novels, television series, and in film. Some common portrayals of science fiction include time and space travel. At times, these stories feature life that is found on other planets apart from Earth. The tales are usually based on new technologies, different social systems and scientific discoveries. Science fiction may seem to be a fantasy because the technologies involved sometimes look unrealistic. However, that fantasy becomes a reality when it changes how people view their daily lives. History of science fiction Philosophical stories and texts from centuries ago have some imagery that relates back to science fiction. The stories imply that, even then, they predicted advances in science in future years to come. Religious poems and stories that talk about the creation or demolition of the universe have some elements that are like the elements of Science fiction. The powers used by science fiction can be associated with those of the gods during and before biblical times. An example of an old philosophical text which can be associated with science fiction is Plato s The Republic . The topics and adventures discussed in the text are viewed as a fantasy and do not seem practical in real life because they cannot be experienced using normal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
