Pop Culture And Pop Art
Architecture in every life reflects the culture of every society interacting closely with the history,
politics and social feature of the society. Change in the cultural or social attitude has greatest impact
on architecture. Thus it would be generic to conclude that the role of culture in promoting an
architectural style or era is an essential part of its existence.
Roemer van Toorn1 states that Matters concerning architecture are no longer about being popular but
about creating the popular. But the main idea to the proposal suggests that Contemporary architecture
has already been absorbed by the popular. It is now a part of the scene, a part of what we call popular
culture.
The popular culture is more defined by what is displayed in mass medias such as the MTV or
Lifestyle magazines or Daily newspapers. Popular culture is entangled with consumer culture2,
basically suggesting that popular is what is popularly consumed or accepted.
And as architecture has crossed the threshold to the field of mass media and popular consumption, it
had indeed gone pop! that being a part of popular culture.
The Minimalism3 and Pop Art both art movements came up about the same time. Both these
movements posed a question on art s autonomy as represented by the institutionalization of abstract
painting. Moreover, both proposed that the art escaped the privilege of the unique artistic object and
its corresponding museum context.
The movement had different approaches though. Minimalist created objects that would focus the
attention on the industrialization of manufacture and on the spatial experience. While, pop art
reconnected to the outside world of popular culture and mass consumption.
When Robert Venturi4 proposed that architecture can be drawn from popular visual culture of the
contemporary urban landscape, he was unaware of the potential of the happenings of today. In fact
later he was accused by detractors of using the idea of popular culture to reinforce architecture s
position at the high end of cultural spectrum. The popular forms and images were absorbed into the
vocabulary and architecture thus regained its determinant role of popular taste.
The part of architecture s move towards pop is also related to the desire

The Debate Over Open Carry Of Handguns
In recent years, open carry of handguns has become the controversial issue in America since the
Supreme Court s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and in McDonald v. City of Chicago
advocated protecting the Second Amendment (MELTZER). More and more states have allowed
certain forms of open carry law for handguns, but Texas is one of few states that prohibit outright any
open carry of guns (GRIEDER). The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states a
well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep
and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The people who support the open carry law point out that bans
on gun are against the Second Amendment, which established the right for every citizen to keep and
bear arms. The National Rifle Association (NRA), the powerful lobby against gun control, believes
that human will still use their gun responsibly if there is no law (National Rifle...); however, the
people who do not support open carry argue that gun control can decrease the risk of crime and also
stop the potential to serial shooters to occur. Since gun control has become a controversial issue in
American politics, people might wonder the Second Amendment is about individual or collective
right? However, in the book by the author Saul Cornell, A Well Regulated Militia: The Founding
Fathers and the Origins of Gun Control in America, explained the historical evolution of guns right
and the idea of individual

John Locke Law Of Nature
The Law of Nature is the universal concept at which most philosophers would refer to when
describing the natural state of society and humans (Joseph, 1999). The meaning of the Law of Nature
also differs from one philosopher to another. Here, Hobbes describes it as something humans of
rational thinking would try to escape even if it means subjecting oneself to absolute authority
(Baumgold, 2010).
The Social Contract has taken up a new meaning under Hobbes. Social Contract has become the
means by which Man, defined to be self interested and reasonable, escapes the Law of Nature which
was described to be intolerable. That Man, is willing to give up his freedom just to lead a civil life
which is more conducive for his self interests. Locke
John Locke is one of the most influential thinkers of his time. His work, Two Treatises on
Government, inspired the founding fathers of the United States of America and contradicted the
prevalent ideas in England (Dienstag, 1996). For Locke, the Law of Nature, contrary to Hobbes, is a
state of perfect and complete liberty to lead one s life as best as one sees it fit; that it should be free
from any kind of interference from others (Dienstag, 1996). This is under the belief of Locke that
everyone is equally created by God and therefore has equal freedom to pursue his personal interests.
Although, this does not mean that anyone is free to harm and trespass one another. This is for the same
reason that only God has the right to take away

Ldr Philosophies Last Castle Essay
Leader Philosophies, Themes, and Strategies Employed through The Last Castle
(Information from the film will be written in a basic Times New Roman, Font 12; however the
information retrieved from Organizational Behavior resources will be italicized, as well as my added
comments)
The Last Castle was packed full of leaders; bad, good, and great according to the numerous leadership
philosophies, themes, and strategies that I will identify. The movie begins with Lieutenant General (3
Star) Irwin coming off the bus in his dress green uniform, while in handcuffs. He has the entire prison
(staff, soldiers, and prisoners) watching him being escorted into the Castle prison. While he is
escorted, the prisoners are taking bets on how long he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, withholding resources is one of The 12 Elements of Great Managing (I have the
materials and equipment I need to do my work right, Ch. 2, The Second Element) Basketball is not
considered work; however, it is a part of their daily activities, and withholding items causes friction on
the court, which does not allow for everyone to participate. While chaos / a fight arose, other
prisoners, the guards, and the Colonel observed, until the Colonel finally gave the order to put a stop
to it. Although bean bags were shot rather than live ammunition, apparently the Colonel had given
orders to aim at the head periodically (calling it an accident), especially when prisoners (or animals, as
the Colonel called them often) were killed. This type of leadership is in line with Machiavelli s, pg. 4,
assumed view of human nature in the prison, that human beings are essentially evil... as the
prisoners/animals were evil. Also, I compared this accidental killing of prisoners in The Castle like the
beginning of Sun Tzu. Sun Tzu killed the King s two favorite concubines because they failed to follow
orders. Just like the Colonel gave orders a second time before commanding the marksman to shoot,
Sun Tzu gave the orders a second time before he killed the concubines. When the orders have been
made clear, and are not carried out in accordance with military law, it is a

The Bohemian Scandal
In Conan Doyle s short story A Scandal in Bohemia (1888), Sherlock Holmes can tell that the stranger
possess great wealth before he speaks a single word. Sherlock Holmes analyzes everything when it
comes to people. He uses their appearance, how they carry themselves, and what kind of objects they
have on them. The author uses descriptive words to describe the way the stranger looked. This essay
will prove that Sherlock Holmes is so observant of everyone, that he can tell who you are before
speaking to you. In the short story A Scandal in Bohemia Mr. Sherlock Holmes receives a letter of the
most secretive importance. In this letter, it was stated that the person is not to be ... Show more content

A man with luxury would have an area where he can get exercise regularly and would be well
nourished. Watson describes his clothing as rich but bad in taste. In many countries being gaudy is a
sign of having wealth. It is a way of expressing that they have more money than everyone else. The
stranger has bands of astrakhan on his sleeves. Astrakhan is fur from a young lambs coat. People with
money tend to wear fur that no one else can afford. He was wearing a cloak with flame coloured silk.
Silk is a precious material that only the rich could trade for. His brooch had a single flaming beryl. A
beryl is a gem, and gems were used as jewelry. The beryl was most likely a rare gem because Watson
described it as a flaming beryl. It was intensely passionate to the eye. The boots were trimmed with
rich brown fur. Notice that he did not describe the fur as just fur. He stated that it was a rich brown fur.
As stated before, most likely an animal s fur that is rare. The man had his face covered with a black
vizard. The man was trying to hide his identity with a black vizard. Only someone who would be
recognized would wear a mask. The man made sure that Holmes could not see his face because his
hand was still raised to ensure it was covered. This was to ensure his identity was concealed. Watson
described his face of having strong features and to have a length of obstinancy. The man knows what

Peace Women Paper
Peace Women I am a strong believer in feminism and lesbian rights. I chose to research five women
from different places across the world who took a stand for lesbian rights. These ladies include: Zohl
de Ishtar (Australia), Haya Shalom (Israel), Izabela Jaruga (Poland), Lo Sai Rose Wu (China, Hong
Kong), and Chuen Juei Ho (China, Taiwan). The first peace woman I want to talk about is Zohl de
Ishtar. Zohl is an Australian lesbian who helps women in Australia on projects in communities and
even world wide (PeaceWomen Across the Globe). By working on the international level she is able to
work with a diverse number of people. She has worked to eliminate nuclear weapons and militarism,
campaigned to improve the rights of all peoples, defended cultural integrity and strived to end any
form of discrimination, with an emphasis on sexuality (PeaceWomen Across the Globe). Zohl not only
wants to help women with a so called unusual sexual orientation, but also the general public.
The second peace woman I want to talk about is Haya Shalom from Israel. Haya is a feminist
sponsoring human rights as a lesbian. She is one of the most well known women supporting women s
unity for peace and women s rights (PeaceWomen Across the Globe). I respect Shalom for having
such an impact on women s rights while being a lesbian. I cannot see the journey to gain rights being
an easy task for her. I read that Shalom participated

Have you ever heard a story from one of the physicians here at UT Health, or even an employee, of a
time when a patient came in for a second opinion and didn t bring diagnostic images from the previous
office visit? Or that one of the researchers needs a specific lab record but the patient doesn t remember
where it was drawn at two weeks ago? According to The University Of Texas System Dashboard

We can start at the beginning. The corporeal archive database would be created through the University
of Texas student s coursework, or extra curricular. Meaning, the labor in development would be free.
One of the goals in creation is to hold a large capacity of information. The system would be paperless
and convert any other outdated document to digital form as well. Once established globally, all records
ever created in the aspect of the body, from every association, would be submitted to the global
corporeal archives maintaining organization. This organization will automatically import the
documents into the system, organizing them appropriately by the patient. Every individual record
would include a photo of each person. The documents in each record can be information provided by
the patient, including, but not limited to physician s notes. The papers will contain a variety of
information on a patient s health or body history. Even personal items such as significant illnesses and
medical conditions, lab findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans. Other fact based data including
history of drug abuse or alcohol use, and smoking, also physical exams, allergies, medications, and
any adverse reactions. The paperwork would list dates, times, attending personnel, admittance and
discharge notes, and any other related reports. The system I am proposing to be financed would allow
access to new and previous information among providers throughout the

Institutional Systems And The Selection Pressures Of...
There are various institutional systems that are part of our world. Population, production, regulation,
distribution and reproduction are all forces that create potential problems that lead to the creation of
institutional systems. In other words, institutional systems are created because of the given selection
pressures. The main goal of any institution is to provide solutions for selection pressures, many of
them can even help to resolve multiple issues. For example, when it is needed to reproduce
biologically and culturally, the institution of kinship aids to resolve the pressures of reproduction. In
the same way, when it is needed to regulate the individuals in society, religion could help fulfill the
selection pressures of regulation. Education, like kinship, helps to reproduce culturally and also
regulate the roles of individuals. Just like these three institutions, the others also play a role in
resolving other selection pressures. Kinship, religion and education, however, will be the main focus
of this paper given that they are the institutions that mainly aid to the selection pressures of
reproduction, population and regulation. Kinship is the institution that resolves the issue of
reproduction (until the population gets large). As stated previously, a society needs to reproduce
biologically, social structurally and culturally. The explanation that Turner provides for kinship is that
it allows marriage and blood ties organized into structures and mediated by

Interpretive Ethnography
As a follow up to our pragmatic stance, we wanted to analyze our observations from the phenomena
which are occurring in context (Streubert and Carpenter, 1999) by relying on abduction, a reasoning
approach that is suita ble when we begin with an insufficient set of observations and proceeds to the
most plausible explanation. As a scientific research method, abduction is about using prior knowledge
and field evidence to make conjectures and to stress them against observations and experimentation
but also to rely on the researcher s instinct . To apprehend time in action and in its full complexity, this
strategy of inquiries which assumes that the researcher is implicated in the phenomenon being studied,
encourage us to focus on the detailed examination of individual lived experience and the ways in
which they make sense of that experience, and how they interpret phenomena by looking at multiple
perspectives with an insider s viewpoint. Studying these different ... Show more content on

time. We present the ethnographic findings in parallel to illustrate our typology.
Interpretive Ethnography in a Retail Team of an E commerce Company
The typology below is formatted in a way that it permits to explore each juncture of temporal
reflexivity. The analysis is designed to highlight that these junctures are based on the fact that
organizational actors integrate and reconsolidate experiences. We give the meaning to junctures of
temporal reflexivity as the processes by which temporal reflexivity is enacted to bring and raise
awareness of time that, in turn, enables actors to reflect upon the medium and the outcome of time.

The Landlady By Roald Dahl
The theme in the short story, The Landlady , by Roald Dahl is that naive people who judge outward
appearances should avoid trusting deceptive strangers because this can result in death. The first
example is when Billy first enters the Bed and breakfast and puts his stuff down. There were no hats
and coats in the hall, there were no umbrellas, no walking sticks nothing (Dahl 26). This means that
the place is empty because it is bad. This shows that Billy is naive and lacks wisdom. Furthermore,
when talking with the landlady she says that Temple and Mulholland are still on the 4th floor together.
But my dear boy, he never left. He s still here. Mr.Temple is also here. They re on the fourth floor,
both of them together ( Dahl 32). These are signs of danger because usually, someone who hears that

More importantly, when Billy and the landlady first meet each other, the landlady portrays herself as a
good person. She was forty five or fifty years old, and the moment she saw him, she gave him a warm,
welcoming smile (Dahl 24). This presents that the landlady is purposely misleading Billy to think that
she is a good person when she is really not. This relates to the theme because the landlady is tricking
Billy to thinking she is a good person so that he would stay. In the short story, there is a lot of
figurative language. In fact, the author Roald Dahl uses foreshadowing to create suspense. For
example, the tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds (Dahl 34). This quote shows foreshadowing because it
gives the reader an idea of what the tea might contain in it, which was poison. In addition, the author
uses imagery to give the reader an idea of how the character looks like. For instance, the back was
hard and cold, and when he pushed the hair to one side with his fingers, he could see the skin
underneath, grayish black and dry and perfectly preserved (Dahl

Survival Of Tsarism Essay
How far were divisions amongst opponents responsible for the survival of Tsarist rule, 1881 1905?
Divisions of opposing groups of the Tsar were important to the survival of Tsarist Russia. However,
other factors such as the church, the belief of the divine right, the army and the Okhrana were also
effective in keeping the Tsar in a state of power.
Firstly, the opposition groups of the Tsar were known as the Populists, the Liberals and the Marxists.
Each group had its own ideas on what was needed for Russia and each group wanted change,
however, there were many problems within the groups and none of them were willing to work with
each other. The Populists who were mainly concentrated on establishing a democratic government

These teachings were a massive problem for the Populists when they assassinated Tsar Alexander II,
the people of Russia had seen the culprits publicly hanged by the Tsar s son, Alexander III and this
caused massive hatred towards the opposition group, especially as the Populists were built up of 85%
of the peasant population! The Tsar was seen as the Dear Father , who would want to kill someone
who had been put on the throne by God himself?
Thirdly, the Tsar had the benefit of controlling the army and the secret police force, the Okhrana. The
Tsar was the commander and chief of the Russian army, he had total control of it and they had been
loyal to the Tsar for many years (Nicholas I had an input in creating the Okhrana). The army and the
Okhrana were used very efficiently by the Tsars. If anybody opposed the Tsar with violent protests or
demonstrations, the army would be called in and many of the protesters would be shot and trampled
on by horses. As well as removing current threats to the Tsar, the armies input effected possible
opponents, as they knew what their own fate would be if they also tried to oppose the Dear father .
The Okhrana was also very effective, it was known for infiltrating opposition groups and dividing
them even further. If an opposition group member was caught, they would be exiled to Siberia to die a

Levitt s Freakonomics
Freakonomics is a humorous and intriguing book about taking off the top layer of a situation and
understanding what is happening underneath. Through everyday examples Steven D. Levitt and
Stephen J. Dubner take perspectives that are unheard of in any other writing while simultaneously
comparing the most unique and uncommon ideas to each other. As they study everyday life, readers
see insight to the ways in which the world really functions and runs. As they study the world the
authors continue to ask questions, thus continuing to challenge the reader to seek for a deeper answer.
Through these highly untypical questions, Levitt and Dubner are able to display that the root of
economics itself is incentives. The book begins by asking the questions what do schoolteachers and
sumo wrestlers have in common? (15). The average person would most likely respond with nothing,
but Levitt and Dubner show the reader there is more in common with each than you would think. Each
party can be held accountable for cheating. Teachers are often seen cheating in some form on a

The authors continue to question the qualities of people through examples such as the bagel company
in a hopes of determining if people are really good. Levitt and Dubner continue their questioning with
examples like relators and the KKK. They are able to compare the secret codes of the Klan to the
words that real estate agents use when trying to sell a house. Later on, Levitt and Dubner bring up the
question of what makes a perfect parent? . They stress the idea that parents are so afraid of making a
mistake that they become terrible risk assessors and end up putting their child in more danger. Again,
Levitt and Dubner are focusing on an uncommon perspective to bring insight to the reader of how the

Some parts of city life are seen as positive attributes, and with the good, there are negative attributes
as well. If I were to be considering purchasing a home in Sentinel City, I would first weigh the pros
and cons of moving there. The diversity of the city is one thing I see as a positive factor, the different
sections of the city present exposure to different cultural things like different people, food, and music.
This diversity is a welcomed mix in life. The proximity of medical care to the city is another plus to
moving into Sentinel City. It is comforting to know emergency care is only minutes away. This would
also likely be my place of employment, so commuting to work would be very short and easy. The
elevated rail system will fall in to both the positive and negative details in Sentinel City. Being near a
public train system makes commuting affordable, and convenient. In contrast to what appears to be the
good details of the city, there are also negative ones. The elevated train can prove to be disruptive,
noisy, and polluting. Another down side to Sentinel City, is the lack of supermarkets within the city.
There are bodegas throughout, but no larger options for food shopping. This lack of options is a
potential health problem. According to Fiechtner et al, (2016), there is a correlation with
fruit/vegetabel intake, weight status, and proximity to a supermarket. Lastly, the lack of bike lanes in

On January 17, 1961 President Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered his farewell address to the nation, his

nation, on any subject of his choice, with the authority, prestige and preeminence that comes with the

was perhaps something that at the time did not register in the mind of the average American as a

Compare And Contrast The Ottomans And Ottoman Empire
During the 14th to 16th century, two main empires ruled Spain, the Ottoman and Habsburg empires.
Both empires remained standing for hundreds of years before they fell. The Ottoman Empire was an
Islamic empire with their population mainly consisting of Muslims. Founded in 1299, they lasted for
more than 600 years with more than 30 sultans before they fell. The Habsburg Empire was a Roman
Catholic centric empire founded around the 15th century and lasted for more than 400 years. Both the
Ottomans and Habsburg allowed minority groups to live in their empire under their government, but
had many restrictions that minimized the minority group s freedom. The minority groups were a big
factor in how Habsburg Spain and the Ottomans would maintain their empire. Although each Empire
employed religion as a way to maintain their empire, the Ottomans were more successful in
maintaining their empire as they used religion to create an army and gain money from the minorities.
In the Islamic ruled empire, the Ottomans relied heavily on religion when it came to maintaining their

Compare And Contrast New England And Chesapeake Colonies
New England and the Chesapeake Regions After the discovery of the New World, countries raced to
expand their empires into the Western Hemisphere. Two countries that were dominating the Americas
were Spain and Portugal. These countries were gaining much wealth and power from the New World,
and it resulted in an economic boom in both empires. This encouraged other countries, like France
and, especially, Britain to join in the competition. Britain joined the quest for land in the New World
because they sought to expand their empire, and compete with the growing powers of Spain and
Portugal. Britain quickly took the lead in the Western Hemisphere by conquering land from Natives
along the eastern coast of North America. Soon, Britain was developing colonies all over the East
Coast. Two regions in particular that Britain was controlling was the New England and Chesapeake
areas. Prior to 1700, New England attracted many families to settle there, while Chesapeake attracted
more men, New England was founded because of religious reasons, while in the Chesapeake, they
first were searching for gold. Although they had differences, both New England and Chesapeake
colonies had conflict with the Natives, and they both had internal struggles between the poor and the
rich. Demographics in the New England and Chesapeake regions differed greatly, while New England

Tragedy or Comedy? Final Project The following sample chapter will include definitions of both
Tragedy and Comedy. An analysis of each play will then follow. The chapter will also include an
explanation of how each work embodies a specific theme and compare/contrast how one work s
approach to a theme or concept differs from that of the other play. One of the most widely used styles
of literature is Tragedy. Tragic is an adjective that describes numerous sad or depressing incidents that
plague everyday life. Tragedy however is a bit more specific. Literary Tragedy is a written piece
consisting of courageous and noble characters that must confront powerful obstacles being either
external or from within. These noble characters are the epitome of bravery because they display depth
of the human spirit in the face of danger, defeat and death. Tragedy became a popular type of drama
with ancient Greeks. Tragedies during the ancient Greek era had powerful and influential protagonists

the protagonists lives were turned upside down resulting in suffering and deep agony. Falling from

Essay about Let s Stand Up for Liberty
Who is Robyn Blumner? Perhaps she is simply your everyday editorialist for a daily newspaper. Or, as
the former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida (ACLU), could she
possibly have her own agenda? One of Blumner s columns entitled Let s stand up for liberty was
published in a well known editorial writers magazine called The Masthead . In summary, it focuses on
freedom of speech, and how we tend to lose sight of it, or even have it taken from us during national
hardships. She feels that the government tends to deny us of these freedoms when we need them the
most, during war. Blumner sturdily supports her claims throughout the course of her column.
However, does the fact that she was once affiliated with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Blumner claims during World War I, few editorial boards stood up for civil liberties. Instead, they
chose to reflect the xenophobic [anti immigrant] views of their readership [par.16]. In support, she
quotes from a professor of journalism, Joseph McKerns, to back her statement. McKerns asserts
foreigners were the ones portrayed as a threat rather than merely exercising free speech [par.18]. He
also alleges the daily press made a convenient separation, seeing the speech of the political activist as
different from what it did [par.17]. By accentuating her interest of immigrant s rights, could it be she is
supporting yet again, her past organization?
Where do her priorities lie? So far we have identified her support of national freedom and immigrant s
rights. Throughout the course of the article she also defends the rights of Japanese Americans, German
Americans, and defends publishers that were prosecuted for violating the Espionage Act in wartime
history. She may have valid claims, but she is still being biased. What about the natives of Iraq that
gained liberties from the capture of Saddam Hussein? War doesn t always have viewed negatively.
Apparently she was respected enough to be published. However, a little background on The Masthead
is nothing more than an opinion writing magazine. Does this make her credible? I think not!
In the beginning I was compelled by her article. It truly made me

Ham Case Study
The case study of Sasha requires additional specialists on the multidisciplinary evaluation team
(MET). The decision as to who should be part of the team is based on the information provided in the
case study. The team should consist of the parent, school psychologist, School social worker, general
education teacher, special education teacher, and other related services. The parent can provide
information, particularly about her behavior at home. The case study reports that Sasha has 10 15
tantrums per week, and that it is extremely hard on the family. Given the impact of her behavior on the
family, the parents are key to understanding what triggers are preceding the tantrums.

The task force was charged with conducting a jobcomponent job analysis (Ash, 1982) for the set of
functions falling under the generic title, personnel assessment specialist. This set of functions included
personnel assessment in general, including maintenance and improvement efforts in the areas of job

training needs assessment, performance appraisal, program evaluation, and organizational
effectiveness. The primary product is a set of tasks (organized into job dimensions) for the occupation
of personnel assessment specialist, and the specification of requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities
(KSA s) for journey level performance of the tasks in each respective job dimension.
This information has continuing utility with regard to the types of jobs studied for such personnel

I. Abstract
The purpose of this water experiment is to compare two sources of waters and see if they would affect
the growth of beans. For the purpose of this test, multiple samples were implemented to gather results
with as much accuracy as possible. Every two days a study of our beans was conducted. Measuring
the growth/length of each bean. 40 samples were used. The team hypothesized that the water from
Foster Lake would grow plants faster than the water from Kanakadea Creek due to the bio diverse
nature of the lake and its inhabitants. The results gathered show a surprising find in this study.
II. Introduction
Water is the most natural thing we have on earth. It sustains many organisms and those organisms
depend on it almost daily. Plants are such organisms. For this study the focus is the growth of beans.
Over the course of two weeks my team and I conducted research comparing the two types of waters
that were selected and seeing if they had any significant differences in growing beans. The first week
was inconclusive due to bean rot and negligence. Test two led to a more constant observation of
growth and change of location. Results gathered from this experiment have shown a difference that
different waters may have on the growth of plants. Beans that consumed certain water sources

Stratigraphy Of Ototoka Beach, Whanganui
Stratigraphy of Ototoka Beach, Whanganui Abstract This report aims to give an insight into the
Stratigraphic history of the formations observed at Ototoka beach, Whanganui and to apply the use of
various geological methods in examining individual sedimentary units in order to work out the
environment that would have existed at the time of their deposition millions of years ago, and
therefore we have constructed a history of environmental changes for the area over a large scale of
time, such as the rise and fall of sea level and the co occurring increase and decrease of temperatures
as a result, which has given us a better understanding of how the planet s environments change over
time and how ours is changing at the present day. Introduction/Background We conducted our study at
Ototoka Beach in Whanganui (Figure 5). The aim of our project was to work in groups to measure a
section along the beach using pace and compass techniques whilst describing sediments, and
collecting Micro and Macro paleontology samples for further study. We combined the data we
collected on the fieldtrip with data we were given along with published literature to form an
understanding of the stratigraphic record of Ototoka Beach. Regional Formations at Ototoka Beach (In

Metamorphosis And The Stranger
The existence and purpose of human live has always posed a question for society. To answer this
question, philosophers ponder Existentialism. Existentialism is the philosophy that humans exist for
no true purpose and that each individual changes essence in his or her lifetime by finding meaning in
life through freewill, choice, and personal responsibility without certain knowledge of right and
wrong. This theory gained popularity in the mid 1900s after WWII caused many people to lose hope
in an ordered world and accept that no cosmic justice exists. According to this theory, no absolute
rules govern humans lives. This theory appears throughout literature and offers a grim perspective on
human existence. The Metamorphosis, written by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Meursault cannot find a solid place in society. He lives alone due to the death of his
mother. Society cannot accept the manner in which Meursault addresses his mother s death. Since he
thinks that Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, [he doesn t] know (Camus 3), society believes
that he does not care that his mother dies. Everyone judges him because he does not relate to the rest
of the people. Meursault receives immense criticism at his trial concerning his murdering another
man. At his trial, Meursault can feel how much all these people [the jury] hated (Camus 90) him. The
jury does not commend him or even regard him with understanding about his mother s death. Some
people react to death without actually reacting to it; Meursault subconsciously chooses to do so but
receives condemnation. Both characters experience isolation from society.
The characters also think illogically without true reasoning. When Gregor transforms into a large

for help but finds sleeping an appropriate response. Later, he continues by concluding that his bug
state is a result of getting up early all the time (Kafka 7) because it makes you stupid (Kafka 7). While

Pros And Cons Of The Government Shutdown
November 14, 1995 is a day that is remembered by some as a terrible day in history. While November
19, 1995 is a day most Americans are grateful for. These are the dates the government shutdown, and
the date that the shutdown concluded and the headaches were over for the citizens of America. Or so
they thought. A partial government shutdown again proceeded to happen on December 16, 1995 to
January 6, 1996. It is days like this that made America what it is today (E. Green). In 1995 President
Bill Clinton and Republican House were in a stalemate. They could not agree on budget spending. The

President Bill Clinton obtained many of his votes due to how he handled the shutdown and the
Republican house. Potentially, if Clinton didn t have to manage the shutdown then he may have not
been reelected. Maybe America would have been better off with a new president, but we cannot
change that past. What is done is done and we have to live with our choices that we have made. When
people think of the government shutdown many think of quite simply the downfalls. This is most
logically because the negatives of a government shutdown over power the positives. Just like most
things though, there were some plus sides to the shutdown. Gingrich stated that the shutdown led to a
balanced budget deal, and without the shutdown it may have never been arrived at (E. Green) Neither
side ever wanted the issue to become so out of hand that it was forced to shut down, but that is what it
led to. The shutdown was tough for both sides. Most Americans believe that the shutdown was the
Republicans fault, (National Journal) but it was actually fault on both sides. Both sides were too
bullheaded to realize the consequences that could arise and solve their problems without a fight. There
is no perfect way to solve this problem. Mainly because it is over a big issue. Potentially if one side
would have been more willing to work together, maybe some of the dispute could have been resolved

Levy is shown in some scenes through Cliff s movie. Prof. Levy basically explains that life is a great
thing, and it s naturally neutral, but humans inflict their feelings onto life, and humans can live life
through making their own decisions and trying to be happy. Prof. Levy says that life is good, morality
is man s creation, and that people should strive to be happy. However, despite these positive ideas, the
professor ends up killing himself, leaving a note saying I ve gone out the window . This is an
incredible moment in the movie, showing that no matter what outlook and ideology a person has on
life, sometimes it can be too much. Prof. Levy killed himself because he understood how simple life
was. You are born, you survive, you live, you die, and that s it. Humans are not simple, we are born
and we survive, yet we seek love and affection, we create bad and good, we create God, we accept
God, we accept morality, we betray morality, we are no longer happy, and then we die. Humans make
life difficult and complex, and I think Woody Allen uses the professor to show this. Prof. Levy knew
this, and so he ended his life because it was the only way to avoid the complexity humans created. His
suicide note is simple and straightforward; the way death is. No matter what a person s belief, no
matter how simple or complex life can be, death is always straightforward. This whole movie

The Secret Service And A Protective Security Policy
Introduction
Assassination is always a serious business. It is unfamiliar to most of us who live in liberal
democracies. The Secret Service found that assassination seems clear is that, for almost all subjects,
attacks or near lethal approaches occurred after a period of downward spiral in their lives (Dedman,
1998). The most often motive that assassins gave for attacking a public figure was to achieve notoriety
or fame, and only a few wanted political change or acted in a group. Other assassins wanted to end
their pain by being imprisoned or to avenge a perceived wrong. In this article, some of the incorrect
stereotypes associated with assassins or near lethal approachers who direct their activities against
prominent public officials and public figures, and how these stereotypes can create blind spots in a
protective security policy.
Blind spots in a Protective Security Policy
Portraits of assassins are fixed in the American mind as the deranged madman, the lonely loser
obsessed with his target, the political killer following threats with violence. Dedman (1998) shows
that half of the assassins has mental illness symptoms, where many shifted from one target to another,
valuing the act more than the victim. Not one had communicated a direct threat to the target or to law
enforcement authorities.
Many studies found there was no set profile, although there were some patterns like histories of social
isolation, weapon use or harassing other people. Yakin (2011) discusses

The Economic Impact Of Sainsbury s Entering Its Economy
2.12 The Economic Environment
The economic segment looks at how an economy can operate and perform to benchmark growth
levels. Nevertheless, it examines the economy climate and how organizations, consumers and even
suppliers behave within it, (Learn Marketing, 2015). This will help identify the potential weaknesses
and strength within the Australian economy, and how this may impact Sainsbury s entering its
economy.
Type of Market
Australia economy is theoretically a free market based, (Discover why, 2015 and Australian online,
2007). Thus it can be perceived as a mixed market in reality like the UK because of the government
interventions found in any nation.
(Refer to section 3.4 for further analysis on the impacts Sainsbury s may attain from this).
GDP of Australia
Australia s GDP rates stands at 1453.77(B) experiencing the weakest GDP growth since 2013.
Although there was increase by 0.2 percent in the second quarter of 2015 the positive contributions
from final consumption expenditures and investments failed to offset the decline in net exports. This
led Australia to growth constraints mainly driven by a sharp fall in global prices of some export
commodities. Comparatively, Australia were not affected by the global financial crisis and the banking
system remained resilient rather. In addition, to Australia s household spending rose by 0.5% and this
helped in boosting growth and even accounting for 55.8% of its GDP, (World Bank, 2014 and BBC,
2015). This may impose

Ethical Principles In Mental Health Counseling
IMPLICATIONS
Inclusion refers to putting into practice all the principles of clinical mental health counseling.
According to 2014 ACA Code of Ethics, C.5. Nondiscrimination, counselors do not condone or
engage in discrimination against prospective or current clients, students, employees, supervisors, or
research participants based on age, culture, disability, ethnicity, race, religion/spirituality, gender,
gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/partnership status, language preference, socioeconomic
status, immigration status, or any basis prescribed by law. A mental health counselor can combine all
the principles of mental health counseling during therapy. Inclusion shows that the counselor is
equipped with the right tools and possess all the ingredients necessary for the successfully treatment of
the client.
Referral is a counselor s ability to refer a mental health clients to a different counselor. When doing so,
a counselor must be aware of the six ethical principles in Mental Health counseling. Counselors must
keep ACA Code of Ethics A.11 Termination and Referral in mind. If counselors lack the competence
to be of professional assistance to clients, they avoid entering or continuing counseling relationships.
Best Practice refers to a counselor adopting practices that are beneficial for the client and acceptable
by the ACA Code of Ethical standards. Best practices in Clinical Mental health ensures the mental
health professional adheres to each ethical principle.

Essay on Expanding the Literary Canon
Expanding the Literary Canon
While this essay can in no way claim to contain a fully representative sampling of what various
scholars have contributed relative to the ongoing debate over the literary canon, I will attempt to
highlight three distinct positions which are all informed by John Guillory s critical contributions to the
canonical debate. First, I will discuss the concept of ideology and canon formation as Guillory first
articulated it in his 1983 essay, The Ideology of Canon Formation: T. S. Eliot and Cleanth Brooks, and
which he subsequently thoroughly revised and included in his 1993 book on canon formation, Cultural
Capital: The Problem of literary Canon Formation This essay on the ways ideology and cultural

Of course the marginal elite he is referring to here is the literary culture within the academy. He goes
on to posit that while it is unlikely that the formations of canons can ever be removed from ideological
conflicts, that in essence, this is not really saying much at all (145)! While the marriage ofideology
and canon formation may be self evident, Guillory still goes on in the essay to carefUlly delineate how
the ideological concerns of T. S. Eliot culminated in Eliot s creation ofa revisionist canon which
operated as somewhat of a shadow canon along side the established literary canon by elevating the
importance of the Metaphysical poets at the expense ofthe established poets ofthe traditional canon
Milton, Shakespeare, Keats, Shelley, Yeats, etc. According to Guillory, the recipients of Eliot s canon
(scholars, academics) the marginal elite , act as the clergy ofthe orthodoxy ofthe literary culture,
occupying, as Guillory points out, a perch not unlike that of Eliot s preferred poets: Its real status is
precisely that of Donne s poetry, which circulated among a coterie of admirers, or a marginal elite
(151).
Guillory maintains that it is Cleanth Brooks who is left with the task of translating Eliot s many
ideological concerns; the doctrine ofimpersonality relative creative invention as articulated in
Tradition and the Individual Talent , the monumental and closed

Earth s skin, the very flesh of this planet, is slowly degrading due to human impact; this result is

through which a formerly vegetated landscape gradually becomes desert like (Page number). The
process of desertification is an ongoing issue that has inflicted major harm to landscapes all around the

The Great Plains is now a barren wasteland. The cause for vegetation removal, such as in the Great
Plains, vary upon many factors.
Alone or in combination, the removal of vegetation can be caused by overgrazing, deforestation,
unsustainable farming practices, inappropriate irrigation practices that leads to salinity, and much
more. These causes are in turn associated with a wide range of other problems, thus speeding the
process of desertification. Some include: drought, climate shifts, growing populations, poverty,
inadequate infrastructure, and inappropriate technologies (oasisglobal). I will explain a few of these
problems and their association with desertification.
Depending on how it is managed, agriculture can play a positive or negative role on the landscape. In
the case of unsustainable farming practices, the landscape is bound for a negative road. Such practices
can include the use of intense fire to promote nutrients for the crops. According to Green Facts, an
organization that provides information on Health and the Environment, the excessive use of intense
fire can cause irreversible changes in ecological processes, and ultimately, to desertification. This in
turn changes the soil organic matter, causes erosion, and changes the habitat for many plant and
animal species (GreenFacts). However, this is not the only human inducing practice that has caused
the lost of vegetation leading into desertification.

  • 2. Pop Culture And Pop Art Architecture in every life reflects the culture of every society interacting closely with the history, politics and social feature of the society. Change in the cultural or social attitude has greatest impact on architecture. Thus it would be generic to conclude that the role of culture in promoting an architectural style or era is an essential part of its existence. Roemer van Toorn1 states that Matters concerning architecture are no longer about being popular but about creating the popular. But the main idea to the proposal suggests that Contemporary architecture has already been absorbed by the popular. It is now a part of the scene, a part of what we call popular culture. The popular culture is more defined by what is displayed in mass medias such as the MTV or Lifestyle magazines or Daily newspapers. Popular culture is entangled with consumer culture2, basically suggesting that popular is what is popularly consumed or accepted. And as architecture has crossed the threshold to the field of mass media and popular consumption, it had indeed gone pop! that being a part of popular culture. The Minimalism3 and Pop Art both art movements came up about the same time. Both these movements posed a question on art s autonomy as represented by the institutionalization of abstract painting. Moreover, both proposed that the art escaped the privilege of the unique artistic object and its corresponding museum context. The movement had different approaches though. Minimalist created objects that would focus the attention on the industrialization of manufacture and on the spatial experience. While, pop art reconnected to the outside world of popular culture and mass consumption. When Robert Venturi4 proposed that architecture can be drawn from popular visual culture of the contemporary urban landscape, he was unaware of the potential of the happenings of today. In fact later he was accused by detractors of using the idea of popular culture to reinforce architecture s position at the high end of cultural spectrum. The popular forms and images were absorbed into the vocabulary and architecture thus regained its determinant role of popular taste. The part of architecture s move towards pop is also related to the desire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Debate Over Open Carry Of Handguns In recent years, open carry of handguns has become the controversial issue in America since the Supreme Court s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and in McDonald v. City of Chicago advocated protecting the Second Amendment (MELTZER). More and more states have allowed certain forms of open carry law for handguns, but Texas is one of few states that prohibit outright any open carry of guns (GRIEDER). The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The people who support the open carry law point out that bans on gun are against the Second Amendment, which established the right for every citizen to keep and bear arms. The National Rifle Association (NRA), the powerful lobby against gun control, believes that human will still use their gun responsibly if there is no law (National Rifle...); however, the people who do not support open carry argue that gun control can decrease the risk of crime and also stop the potential to serial shooters to occur. Since gun control has become a controversial issue in American politics, people might wonder the Second Amendment is about individual or collective right? However, in the book by the author Saul Cornell, A Well Regulated Militia: The Founding Fathers and the Origins of Gun Control in America, explained the historical evolution of guns right and the idea of individual ... • 4. John Locke Law Of Nature The Law of Nature is the universal concept at which most philosophers would refer to when describing the natural state of society and humans (Joseph, 1999). The meaning of the Law of Nature also differs from one philosopher to another. Here, Hobbes describes it as something humans of rational thinking would try to escape even if it means subjecting oneself to absolute authority (Baumgold, 2010). The Social Contract has taken up a new meaning under Hobbes. Social Contract has become the means by which Man, defined to be self interested and reasonable, escapes the Law of Nature which was described to be intolerable. That Man, is willing to give up his freedom just to lead a civil life which is more conducive for his self interests. Locke John Locke is one of the most influential thinkers of his time. His work, Two Treatises on Government, inspired the founding fathers of the United States of America and contradicted the prevalent ideas in England (Dienstag, 1996). For Locke, the Law of Nature, contrary to Hobbes, is a state of perfect and complete liberty to lead one s life as best as one sees it fit; that it should be free from any kind of interference from others (Dienstag, 1996). This is under the belief of Locke that everyone is equally created by God and therefore has equal freedom to pursue his personal interests. Although, this does not mean that anyone is free to harm and trespass one another. This is for the same reason that only God has the right to take away ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ldr Philosophies Last Castle Essay Leader Philosophies, Themes, and Strategies Employed through The Last Castle (Information from the film will be written in a basic Times New Roman, Font 12; however the information retrieved from Organizational Behavior resources will be italicized, as well as my added comments) The Last Castle was packed full of leaders; bad, good, and great according to the numerous leadership philosophies, themes, and strategies that I will identify. The movie begins with Lieutenant General (3 Star) Irwin coming off the bus in his dress green uniform, while in handcuffs. He has the entire prison (staff, soldiers, and prisoners) watching him being escorted into the Castle prison. While he is escorted, the prisoners are taking bets on how long he ... Furthermore, withholding resources is one of The 12 Elements of Great Managing (I have the materials and equipment I need to do my work right, Ch. 2, The Second Element) Basketball is not considered work; however, it is a part of their daily activities, and withholding items causes friction on the court, which does not allow for everyone to participate. While chaos / a fight arose, other prisoners, the guards, and the Colonel observed, until the Colonel finally gave the order to put a stop to it. Although bean bags were shot rather than live ammunition, apparently the Colonel had given orders to aim at the head periodically (calling it an accident), especially when prisoners (or animals, as the Colonel called them often) were killed. This type of leadership is in line with Machiavelli s, pg. 4, assumed view of human nature in the prison, that human beings are essentially evil... as the prisoners/animals were evil. Also, I compared this accidental killing of prisoners in The Castle like the beginning of Sun Tzu. Sun Tzu killed the King s two favorite concubines because they failed to follow orders. Just like the Colonel gave orders a second time before commanding the marksman to shoot, Sun Tzu gave the orders a second time before he killed the concubines. When the orders have been made clear, and are not carried out in accordance with military law, it is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Scandal in Bohemia Essay Tammy Coleman Dr. Wilson The Bohemian Scandal In Conan Doyle s short story A Scandal in Bohemia (1888), Sherlock Holmes can tell that the stranger possess great wealth before he speaks a single word. Sherlock Holmes analyzes everything when it comes to people. He uses their appearance, how they carry themselves, and what kind of objects they have on them. The author uses descriptive words to describe the way the stranger looked. This essay will prove that Sherlock Holmes is so observant of everyone, that he can tell who you are before speaking to you. In many countries being gaudy is a sign of having wealth. It is a way of expressing that they have more money than everyone else. The stranger has bands of astrakhan on his sleeves. Astrakhan is fur from a young lambs coat. People with money tend to wear fur that no one else can afford. He was wearing a cloak with flame coloured silk. Silk is a precious material that only the rich could trade for. His brooch had a single flaming beryl. A beryl is a gem, and gems were used as jewelry. The beryl was most likely a rare gem because Watson described it as a flaming beryl. It was intensely passionate to the eye. The boots were trimmed with rich brown fur. Notice that he did not describe the fur as just fur. He stated that it was a rich brown fur. As stated before, most likely an animal s fur that is rare. • 8. I Am A Strong Believer Of Feminism And Lesbian Rights Hannah Sanders Peace Studies 27, September 2016 Peace Women Paper Peace Women I am a strong believer in feminism and lesbian rights. I chose to research five women from different places across the world who took a stand for lesbian rights. These ladies include: Zohl de Ishtar (Australia), Haya Shalom (Israel), Izabela Jaruga (Poland), Lo Sai Rose Wu (China, Hong Kong), and Chuen Juei Ho (China, Taiwan). The first peace woman I want to talk about is Zohl de Ishtar. Zohl is an Australian lesbian who helps women in Australia on projects in communities and even world wide (PeaceWomen Across the Globe). By working on the international level she is able to work with a diverse number of people. She has worked to eliminate nuclear weapons and militarism, campaigned to improve the rights of all peoples, defended cultural integrity and strived to end any form of discrimination, with an emphasis on sexuality (PeaceWomen Across the Globe). Zohl not only wants to help women with a so called unusual sexual orientation, but also the general public. The second peace woman I want to talk about is Haya Shalom from Israel. Haya is a feminist sponsoring human rights as a lesbian. She is one of the most well known women supporting women s unity for peace and women s rights (PeaceWomen Across the Globe). I respect Shalom for having such an impact on women s rights while being a lesbian. I cannot see the journey to gain rights being an easy task for her. I read that Shalom participated ... Or that one of the researchers needs a specific lab record but the patient doesn t remember where it was drawn at two weeks ago? We can start at the beginning. The corporeal archive database would be created through the University of Texas student s coursework, or extra curricular. Meaning, the labor in development would be free. One of the goals in creation is to hold a large capacity of information. The system would be paperless and convert any other outdated document to digital form as well. Once established globally, all records ever created in the aspect of the body, from every association, would be submitted to the global corporeal archives maintaining organization. This organization will automatically import the documents into the system, organizing them appropriately by the patient. Every individual record would include a photo of each person. The documents in each record can be information provided by the patient, including, but not limited to physician s notes. The papers will contain a variety of information on a patient s health or body history. Even personal items such as significant illnesses and medical conditions, lab findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans. Other fact based data including history of drug abuse or alcohol use, and smoking, also physical exams, allergies, medications, and any adverse reactions. In other words, institutional systems are created because of the given selection pressures. The main goal of any institution is to provide solutions for selection pressures, many of them can even help to resolve multiple issues. For example, when it is needed to reproduce biologically and culturally, the institution of kinship aids to resolve the pressures of reproduction. In the same way, when it is needed to regulate the individuals in society, religion could help fulfill the selection pressures of regulation. Education, like kinship, helps to reproduce culturally and also regulate the roles of individuals. Just like these three institutions, the others also play a role in resolving other selection pressures. Kinship, religion and education, however, will be the main focus of this paper given that they are the institutions that mainly aid to the selection pressures of reproduction, population and regulation. Kinship is the institution that resolves the issue of reproduction (until the population gets large). As stated previously, a society needs to reproduce biologically, social structurally and culturally. The explanation that Turner provides for kinship is that it allows marriage and blood ties organized into structures and mediated by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a scientific research method, abduction is about using prior knowledge and field evidence to make conjectures and to stress them against observations and experimentation but also to rely on the researcher s instinct . To apprehend time in action and in its full complexity, this strategy of inquiries which assumes that the researcher is implicated in the phenomenon being studied, encourage us to focus on the detailed examination of individual lived experience and the ways in which they make sense of that experience, and how they interpret phenomena by looking at multiple perspectives with an insider s viewpoint. • 12. The Landlady By Roald Dahl The theme in the short story, The Landlady , by Roald Dahl is that naive people who judge outward appearances should avoid trusting deceptive strangers because this can result in death. The first example is when Billy first enters the Bed and breakfast and puts his stuff down. There were no hats and coats in the hall, there were no umbrellas, no walking sticks nothing (Dahl 26). This means that the place is empty because it is bad. This shows that Billy is naive and lacks wisdom. Furthermore, when talking with the landlady she says that Temple and Mulholland are still on the 4th floor together. But my dear boy, he never left. He s still here. Mr.Temple is also here. They re on the fourth floor, both of them together ( Dahl 32). These are signs of danger because usually, someone who hears that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More importantly, when Billy and the landlady first meet each other, the landlady portrays herself as a good person. She was forty five or fifty years old, and the moment she saw him, she gave him a warm, welcoming smile (Dahl 24). This presents that the landlady is purposely misleading Billy to think that she is a good person when she is really not. This relates to the theme because the landlady is tricking Billy to thinking she is a good person so that he would stay. In the short story, there is a lot of figurative language. In fact, the author Roald Dahl uses foreshadowing to create suspense. For example, the tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds (Dahl 34). This quote shows foreshadowing because it gives the reader an idea of what the tea might contain in it, which was poison. In addition, the author uses imagery to give the reader an idea of how the character looks like. For instance, the back was hard and cold, and when he pushed the hair to one side with his fingers, he could see the skin underneath, grayish black and dry and perfectly preserved (Dahl ... Divisions of opposing groups of the Tsar were important to the survival of Tsarist Russia. However, other factors such as the church, the belief of the divine right, the army and the Okhrana were also effective in keeping the Tsar in a state of power. Firstly, the opposition groups of the Tsar were known as the Populists, the Liberals and the Marxists. The Tsar was seen as the Dear Father , who would want to kill someone who had been put on the throne by God himself? The chapter will also include an explanation of how each work embodies a specific theme and compare/contrast how one work s approach to a theme or concept differs from that of the other play. One of the most widely used styles of literature is Tragedy. Tragic is an adjective that describes numerous sad or depressing incidents that plague everyday life. Tragedy however is a bit more specific. Literary Tragedy is a written piece consisting of courageous and noble characters that must confront powerful obstacles being either external or from within. These noble characters are the epitome of bravery because they display depth of the human spirit in the face of danger, defeat and death. Tragedy became a popular type of drama with ancient Greeks. The Secret Service found that assassination seems clear is that, for almost all subjects, attacks or near lethal approaches occurred after a period of downward spiral in their lives (Dedman, 1998). The most often motive that assassins gave for attacking a public figure was to achieve notoriety or fame, and only a few wanted political change or acted in a group. He goes on to posit that while it is unlikely that the formations of canons can ever be removed from ideological conflicts, that in essence, this is not really saying much at all (145)! While the marriage ofideology and canon formation may be self evident, Guillory still goes on in the essay to carefUlly delineate how the ideological concerns of T. S. Eliot culminated in Eliot s creation ofa revisionist canon which operated as somewhat of a shadow canon along side the established literary canon by elevating the importance of the Metaphysical poets at the expense ofthe established poets ofthe traditional canon Milton, Shakespeare, Keats, Shelley, Yeats, etc. According to Guillory, the recipients of Eliot s canon (scholars, academics) the marginal elite , act as the clergy ofthe orthodoxy ofthe literary culture, occupying, as Guillory points out, a perch not unlike that of Eliot s preferred poets: Its real status is precisely that of Donne s poetry, which circulated among a coterie of admirers, or a marginal elite (151). Guillory maintains that it is Cleanth Brooks who is left with the task of translating Eliot s many ideological concerns; the doctrine ofimpersonality relative creative invention as articulated in Tradition and the Individual Talent , the monumental and closed ...
