Network Based Intrusion Detection Systems ( Idss )
Abstract: Providing security in a distributed system is important as cloud computing provides variety
of convenient services. IDS implementation in cloud requires an efficient, scalable and a constructive
approach. Many Network based intrusion detection systems(NIDS) are used for the reception of
packets from the cloud, but those systems possess lower detection rate, high false positive rate and
they fail to resist single point attack. I would like to propose one method which I encountered and
found out to be efficient compared to other methods. This unique model has multiple intrusion
detection systems (IDSs) that are deployed in each layer of the cloud infrastructure for protecting each
Virtual Machine against threats. Another catching feature is that of cloud alliance concept which
exchanges mutual alerts to resist the single point attack of failure. Introduction Cloud Computing The
term cloud is analogical to Internet. Similarly cloud computing is a model for delivering information
technology services in which resources are retrieved from the internet through web based tools and
applications, rather than a direct connection to a server.(Corey 2008) Figure 1: Overview of Cloud

Essay on Oil in Texas
How did the national demand for oil affect the local businesses in Texas, and how did Texas oil
discoveries affect the national oil market? As the Texas oil industry grew, so did related industries.
Some companies began producing oil by products such as petrochemicals. Others produced pipelines,
barrels, and oil field equipment. As these companies began moving into oil towns such as Houston,
Beaumont, and Port Arthur, they further expanded the local economies. Some moved into small towns,
quickly turning them into cities. In North Texas the town of Wichita Falls grew from 8,200 residents
in 1910 to about 40,000 in 1920.The state income also increased from just over $101,000 in 1906 to
$5.9 million in 1929, largely due to the oil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gradually, the oil glut began to affect ordinary Texans. Soon after Spindletop, the availability of an
ocean of cheap oil encouraged its use as fuel for transportation and manufacturing. After railroads
converted from coal to oil, steamships followed, led by those operating in the Gulf of Mexico and the
Caribbean. As automobiles became more common, roads began to be paved across the state.
Mechanization of farm work increased quickly, enabling farmers to produce more food with fewer
people. Manufacturing plants developed in the formerly agricultural state, using cheap oil as fuel.
Texas population scales, heavily weighted toward the rural before Spindletop, started to balance, and
by 1940, the population was almost even: 55 percent rural and 45 percent urban. World War II tipped
the scales, however, when wartime jobs at manufacturing plants in the cities lured large numbers of
people from farms and small towns. Most never returned. This displacement of farming families was
exacerbated by the absorption of many family farms into large corporate operations. Increasing
numbers of migrants from other states and foreign countries also settled principally in urban centers.
By 1980, the state was four fifths urban. The political economy of resource rich states faces an
inherent tension between the role of the state and the private sector over control of

Awareness Of Physical Activity Guidelines
Awareness of physical activity guidelines amongst the UK student population was found to be 69.6%
in this study. This varies considerably from awareness levels determine on a national level in other
developed, high income countries similar to the UK. A recent study in America for example, found
that just 36.1% of adults were aware that government physical activity guidelines (Kay et al., 2014).
This difference in awareness may be explained by a number of factors. Knowledge and awareness of
physical activity guidelines has been shown to be positively associated with education level and
socioeconomic status, as well as being negatively associated with age (Knox et al., 2013; Bergman et
al., 2008). This may partially explain why the university students in this study had a higher level of
awareness than the wider general population. When asked to recite the guidelines, it has been found in
other studies that those who participate in higher levels of physical activity, tend to overestimate the
guidelines, and those with low physical activity levels underestimate them on average (Hunter et al.,
2014; Knox et al., 2015). This agrees with the findings from this study, in which variation between the
perceived and actual guidelines was found to be an independent predictor of physical activity (p 0.05).
Whilst most participants (over 65%) in the study believed that they understood what the terms
moderate and vigorous physical activity meant. However, when their understanding was

Essay on Comparison of The Red Room, The Signalman and The...
Comparison of The Red Room, The Signalman and The Ostler
A gothic story is a type of romantic fiction that existed in English Literature in the last third of the
18th century and the first two decades of the 19th century, the setting for which was usually a ruined
gothic castle of Abbey. The gothic novel or gothic romance emphasised mystery and horror and was
filled with ghost haunting rooms, underground passages, and secret stairways.
The stories I m looking at are The Red Room, The Signalman and The Ostler.
The Red Roomwas written by Herbert George Wells in 1896. H.G.Wells was born in Bromley, Kent
on September 21st 1866. Son of Joseph Wells, an unsuccessful shopkeeper and his wife Sarah ... Show

The technique was used by Dickens in his novels, and by sanitary reformers in their reports. Indeed,
when Edwin Chadwick was writing his great reports on the condition of towns, he consulted the
novelist on the best way of presenting his evidence. Dickens brother in law was a leading sanitary
reformer, the author of a nauseating account of burial grounds, oozing with disgusting secretions.
Before Dickens died on June 8th 1870, he read the report and dreamed of putrefaction and the images
recur in his novels, of blockages, decay, stickiness which makes the reader feel the texture of the city
The Ostler was written by Wilkie Collins in 1855. Wilkie Collins was born in London on January 8th
1824. William Wilkie Collins, author of the first detective novels in English, son of a respected
landscape painter, he was named after his painter godfather, David Wilkie. Educated in London,
Collins studied to become a barrister, although it was never his intention to practice, and by 1848 he

Eli Wiesel Book Report Night
Night by Eli Wiesel
Amrinder Bhuller
P.2
Author: The author of Night is Elie Wiesel. In my opinion, he did a very good job in writing this
story! Eli was born on September 30, 1928. Eli is currently 86 and has written a lot of books. Eli had
served as a prisoner Auschwitz and other concentration camps. He wrote all his experiences in this
book. The Night talks about his experiences in these concentration camps and all he went through.
Everything is probably historically correct because he went through all this and he wrote the book
because of what happened to him. He is currently a Jewish American professor.
Point Of View: The point of view of the story is in first person. The author himself has went through
all of this and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title technically explains how the lives of the Jews were during this time period. They never had a
good day during this time period when Hitler was trying to kill them(World War II). Everyday
hundreds of Jews were captured or killed. The Jews had to run away a lot. Everyday, despite the sun
may be out it was darkness for them. They couldn t get out of the darkness! Then when Hitler gets
stopped, a ray of hope is emerged. The Jews were finally able to live their lives and finally have the
darkness go away. Hitler had surrounded their lives with darkness because he was trying to eliminate
all Jews. Hitler died and the Jews had nothing to be scared of except for God.
Figurative language:
There wasn t maybe figurative languages besides smilies but I did find some. An example of a simile
in the book is: The barbed wire that encircled us like a wall did not fit us with real fear. (Page 11). The
simile refers to that the Jews were basically in a camp in which they were surrounded by a barbed
wire. This simile is a big factor because it shows that the people are trapped with wires around them
giving them no chance to escape. Another example is figurative language was personification. I
believe it is important to emphasize how strongly I feel that books, just like people, have a destiny.
(Page 17). This is an example of personification because the author is relating a non living object to
something that a living object has. We, people, have a destiny and no

Who Is The Sheng Family Obituary In Nineteenth-Century...
Sheng Xuanhuai 盛宣懷 (1844 1916), former Minister of Communications and Junior Guardian of the
Heir Apparent (taizi taibao 太子太保) of the Qing Dynasty (1644 1911), passed away in Shanghai on
April 27, 1916. In November 1917, the Sheng family assembled an unprecedentedly extravagant
funeral procession in the International Settlement of Shanghai. Widely believed to have cost the Sheng
family 300,000 silver dollars, the mile long cortege passed along major streets at the heart of Shanghai
and thereby captivated probably over one million spectators. The 1917 funeral procession of Sheng
Xuanhuai made a lasting impression upon the Shanghai citizens as a grand spectacle in this city. While
a living Sheng Xuanhuai s accomplishment in modernizing China s industry, commerce, education,
and transportation has been fruitfully studied, this article turns attention to a deceased Sheng s
contribution to shaping a modern sensibility in early twentieth century Shanghai. The activities in

Discrimination Against Women s Rights

Women s Rights
Discrimination against women has been a phenomenon for centuries, lack of women s rights and
equality is a long overdue issue that needs to be abolished. The need to make a concrete connection
between human rights and women s rights is ironic considering that one half of the global population
is female (Hawkins 1). Gender inequality is the pressing current human rights issue, including
disparities in education, employment, healthcare, power and decision making, violence, and poverty
that impacts billions of women and girls from every part of the world throughout their lifetime (UN
Statistical Division, 2010; UN Women, 2011a). The United Nations has extended efforts for growing
global rights effort to compensated the deeply rooted gender inequality (Hawkins 1). This paper
addresses gender based inequality and current global human rights initiatives focused on women, and
action taken by women and human rights defenders (Hawkins 1). While human rights violations can
affect all groups, including women (1), women s issues are not the same as gender issues, although the
terms are often used interchangeably (1). In its annual report, the UN Population Fund note that
gender inequality works to the disadvantages of both women and men through impeding the growth of
individuals, the development of countries, and the evolution of societies (UN Statistical Division,
2010, UN Women, 2000). Women s

Banc One HBS case Essay
Banc One
Case Analysis
Case Summary Banc One has a problem with the alignment of two of its important strategies: (1)
rapidly acquiring profitable banks and (2) sustaining high returns while mitigating interest rate risk.
Banc One has been very successful in acquiring banks, and much of this is done through the
sale/transfer of Banc One s stock. This strategy relies heavily on Banc One s ability to maintain a high
stock price. The second strategy high returns with mitigated interest rate risk relies heavily on the use
of interest rate swaps. This use of interest rate swaps has become concerning to investors due to its

Purchasing options, forward, or future contracts. In this way the bank can reduce the uncertainty in the
future by entering into an agreement with set terms for a specific date. Thus, if the interest rate moves
in an unfavorable direction, the bank has the option to use these tools in order to mitigate the impact
of the change on its balance sheet.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using swaps rather than these other means?
Advantages:
There are no capital reserve requirements specific to swaps. Swaps do not appear as assets on the
balance sheet and thus they are not accounted for in the capital requirement calculations for the bank.
This frees capital for the bank and at the same time brings insurance against its interest rate exposure.
Swaps give flexibility and allow the bank to design the contracts in a way that fits its needs. Banks can
tailor the durations, rates and other terms of the swap contracts and make it specific to the current
situation of the bank. Furthermore, they can easily communicate with other banks in order to construct
contracts, which benefit both sides.
Swaps can also improve the bank s liquidity It can invest in short term instruments and thus avoid
locking in its funds in long term securities. At the same time it can add swaps to its portfolio in order
to mitigate some of the interest rate risk involved in the investment of short term

Tro Troy, Tragic Characters In Fences, By August Wilson
Humans have always felt a responsibility to their families. Whether they are parents, spouses, or
children, they feel as though they owe their family members something, and in a way they do. If they
are children, their parents gave them life, and they owe them their respect. If they are a spouse, their
spouse gave them love and chose them, and therefore they owe them all the love they can give. If they
are parents, they brought their children into the world, and they must care for them. But above all,
humans have a responsibility to themselves, to love, respect, and care for themselves. I believe that the
characters in Fences are a very good representation of this; they feel the responsibilities to their
families, but they still mess up. They are completely human, especially Troy. ... Show more content on

Criminology
Criminology Coursework Assessing the riots... Criminology is focused on the attempt to understand
the meanings involved in social interaction. Theorists have tried to explain sociological behaviour by
looking at the patterns created by individuals that commit crime. The August 2011 riots are pivotal in
explaining criminological behaviour since official statistics show that 865 individuals were put in
prison by the 9th September 2011 for offences related to the disorder between 6th and 9th August
2011. This is not to say that others were not involved, but that they have simply not been identified to

plenty to talk about. This essay will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Becker deviance is a consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to
an offender . Becker came to the conclusion that people are criminalised through the process of
negotiation, known to be social constructionism for example the Crown Prosecution Service may drop
the charge of murder to manslaughter if there is not enough evidence to convict for murder. By doing
this the defendant becomes labelled for the crime of manslaughter even though he may truly be guilty
of murder. By introducing what could be regarded as petty legislation more people will be labelled
criminals, which in turn may lead the offender to act further on this basis. Lemert referred to this as
secondary deviance as when a person is labelled criminal they change their view of themselves and
this then becomes their master status . On the other hand primary deviance is when someone violates a
social code, but does not get labelled. Therefore a person is only labelled a criminal if he is caught and
since ethnic minorities are subject to much more scrutiny than the white population this puts black
people at an automatic disadvantage. Following the inquiry into the death of Stephen Lawrence it was
uncovered that the police are institutionally racist. Institutional racism can be defined as the collective
failure of an organisation to provide an appropriate and professional service to the people

Derivative Is A Complex Subject Of Calculus
Derivative is a complex subject of calculus. In calculus, derivative is a key term developed by both
Newton and Leibniz. With function f (t), the first derivative is defined asf^ (t)= df/dt= lim┬(h→0)⁡
〖(f(t) f(t h))/h〗. There is also a second derivative known as second order derivative. The second
order derivative is defined: f^ (t)= (d^2 f)/(dt^2 )= lim┬(h→0)⁡
〖(f^ (t) f^ (t h))/h〗
=lim┬(h→0)⁡
〖1/h {(f(t) f(t h))/h (f(t h) f(t 2h))/h}〗
=lim┬(h→0)⁡
〖(f(t) 2f(t h)+f(t 2h))/h^2 〗
(Podlubny, 1998). The general idea of derivative has been for several times as the topic has been

However, early mathematicians solved these questions with what later became known as derivative.
Derivative has developed or created the ideas of extrema, tangent, and limit (Anderson, Katz, and
Wilson, 2004). Derivative contributed towards the mathematical world from an early stage to the
development of other rules. Derivative was mentioned early in the 1660 s to develop new methods and
rules. Many of the methods known today and that have been developed over the years all derived
because of the use of derivative. Derivative supports the evidence of many proofs such as extreme,
tangent, and limit. Newton and Leibniz both saw derivative in a different way. Newton and Leibniz
both created calculus separately, as in Newton and Leibniz were not working together for the creation
of calculus. They both created or invented calculus by the development of derivative. For example, in
the first step of creating calculus, Newton and Leibniz took the idea and concepts of derivative and
integral. The general concepts of derivative and integral came from the methods for finding tangents,
extrema, and area. The general concept of derivative and integral came from the methods of finding
other solutions. Another invention they came across while inventing calculus was the notation to solve
the concepts of derivative and

Amazon achieves this by controlling complementary products of the Amazon Kindle, in this case the
Kindle store and the Amazon Whispernet. Strategic capability can be defined as the adequacy and
suitability of the resources and competences of an organization for it to survive and prosper. (Johnson
et al, 2005) Porter (1980) argues that it s the industry structure within which the organization
competes and how they position themselves that determine how profitable the firm will be and his
models revolve around this argument. The resource base view of strategy however points not to
industry structure but to the unique clusters of resource and capabilities each company possesses
(Collis and Montgomery 1995, Stalk et al 1992) and therefore is much better suited in analyzing
Amazon s strategic capabilities. The Resource Based View assumes that firms can be conceptualized
as bundles of resources and those resources are heterogeneously distributed across firms and that
resource differences persist over time (Amit and Schoemaker, 1993) and when firms have resources
that are valuable, rare, inimitable and non substitutable (VRIN) they can achieve competitive
advantage that cannot be easily duplicated by other firms. (Conner and Prahalad, 1996) Fig 2 Strategic

The Religion of Sikhism
Sikhism is the youngest of the world s five great monotheistic religions. In 1801, the Sikh state was
founded in Northern India by Maharaja Ranjit Singh based on the teachings of Guru Nanak, who is
also the founder. The teachings of Sikhism are summed up by Guru Nanak in these words: Realization
of truth is higher than all else. Higher still is truthful living (Teece). Sikhs have a variety of teachings
in their culture and religion, but the ones I found emphasized the principles of equality of all humans
and rejection of discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, and gender. Like other religious founders,
Guru Nanak was fascinated by God and religion and starting at a young age he did not participate in
religious rituals and often meditated alone. As a young man, he took many missionary trips because of
his desire to explore and gain knowledge. There is one primary source of scripture for the Sikhs, the
Guru Granth Sahib or the Adi Granth. The two texts are used interchangeably, and the Guru Granth
Sahib can be called the first volume. However, the two books have different compilations. The first,
Adi Granth, was created by Guru Arjan in 1604 and the Guru Granth Sahib was later compiled by
Guru Gobind Singh. Who and what is a Sikh? The word Sikh in the Punjabi language means disciple .

The human right to have access to education is an international concern for people with disabilities.
Countries have evolved from desegregation and separation to inclusive educational systems where

special education within the regular school system has existed for 99 years, and special teacher
training has a 66 year history (Egelund, 2000). The United States government has passed laws to
include students in general education by mainstreaming them into public schools. These countries are

Great Pacific Garbage Patch
For my service event, I attended a beach cleanup event in Indianola, which is in Kitsap County. When
I arrived, I met with twenty other participants and received instructions from a local community
member. We were given gloves, large orange plastic bags, smaller plastic bags, and flags. The larger
bags were for the garbage we collected, the smaller bags were for recyclable items (such as aluminum
cans and glass bottles), and the flags were for needles and similar items that we could not collected
safely. We divided into two group and headed in opposite directions up the beach to collect all the
debris we could find. Over my stretch of beach, I mostly found Styrofoam and a wide variety of

However, beyond that, this is a subject that is of great importance to me. My long term goal is to
become a marine biologist and as such the health of the ocean is of the utmost importance to me. Over
the last few years I have chosen to research and write about environmental issue. One of the main
issues I researched was the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and how plastics in the ocean affect marine
life. Because of that, I understand the true impact that any debris, and particularly plastics, have in the
ocean. They entangle animals, hinder their digestion, and transport of invasive species, to name just
some examples. For these reasons, I believe that preventing debris from entering the ocean is
paramount. I realize that participating in one beach cleanup is not going to save the ocean and the real
problem lies in how humanity is using plastics. However, I want to help contributions the wellbeing of
the ocean. Ultimately, that is why I participated in a beach cleanup event. Furthermore, Indianola is
close to my home, so I was not only benefitting the ocean, but my local community as well. While I
cannot solve the ocean garbage problem, I would like to be part of the solution, not the problem.

The Theology Of Philosophy And Christian Theology
There are four theology sources of theology that is scripture, tradition, reason and religious
experience. The scripture is expounded with the context of public worship and is the subject of
meditation and devotion on the part of individual Christian (McGrath, 2011). Tradition is an active
process of passing on the Christian faith, rather than as a static source of revelation, independent of
Scripture (McGrath, 2011). Reason is assumed an especial importance at the time of the
Enlightenment (McGrath, 2011). Religion experience is an imprecise term. The origins of the word are
relatively well understood (McGrath, 2011). In this paper I will differentiate the different theology
sources that is important. And, what limitations they might have, also how they relate to philosophy
and Christian theology. Finally, some positive and negative relationship will be discussed between the
sources of Christian theology. The scripture is expounded with the context of public worship and is the
subject of meditation and devotion on the part of individual Christian (McGrath, 2011). The scriptures
and faith goes hand to hand, they coexist to develop significant meaning from Genesis to Revelation.
Tradition is an active process that passes on the Christian faith, rather than as a static source of
revelation, independent of Scripture (McGrath, 2011). Tradition often can cause Christian to lose sight
of the scriptures as for as its divine attribute, such as the danger of sin. Also,

Greece, Religion, And Beliefs In Ancient Greece
Essay Plan and Bibliography
Introduction: By the early seventh century BCE, the Greeks had formed independent city states (or
poleis) such as Athens, Sparta, Corinth and Thebes. Although they always fought for territory, they
were largely linked together in many ways such as; Male dominance, Religion/Beliefs and a system of
government.
Point 1: The Greek city states were largely male dominated. According to Darlington, men could only
vote, boys could only go to school, girls were married to men twice their age and a woman s only job
was to bear children (especially boys). All the Greek city states felt men were more important. In
Sparta, women could own land, women actually ended up owning more land than men, but they still
couldn t vote. In Athens men controlled everything that happened in the home. Marriage feasts were
one of the only occasions where the women could celebrate. This links the Greek city states together
as their society valued men above all others (children and women) ... Show more content on

beliefs as religion, as it was part of their culture largely. Another part of their beliefs were; Oracles

important oracle, Delphi was also the navel of the world . The city states also considered Olympia and
Delphi sacred places, as well as their own local places. They even had the Olympic Games where they
all gathered to worship and honour Zeus. This links them as they all had the same beliefs, and came

Enkidu And The Impact Of Civilization
Enkidu and The Impact of Civilization The Epic of Gilgamesh was written between c.2150 1400 BCE
in the ancient city of Mesopotamia meaning between two rivers . The epic is also considered one of
the worlds first great works of literature. From the beginning to the end of the epic, many themes are
expressed through the text but one in particular that stands out is the effect of civilization on humanity.
The effect of civilization on humanity was a reoccurring theme in the story in regards to one of the
main characters, Enkidu. Throughout the epic, many questions arise around the idea of civilization, is
civilization a good thing, or is it bad, what is gained though civilization or what is lost? All these

Enkidu set everything in balance, if something like a snare or holes from civilization disrupted the
natural balance of the world, Enkidu would be the one to set things right. At this time in the epic,
Enkidu was in his purest, most innocent form. This way of living could easily be connected to The
Daodejing and what Daoist would call living with the Way . Enkidu was just another smaller piece to
a bigger play or picture, he was doing what his creator (Ninurta) made him for, and that was to protect
and be at one with nature. He was living with the way by living in the simplest way possible which
was running with the animals and living unaffected by civilization. He did not put labels on any of the
things around them because if he did so he would be limiting his view of the world. Endkiu had no
desires, no wants, no needs, except for the basic necessities such as food and water. But even for those
needs he did not worry, one could easily connect Enkidu the the bible because he subconsciously
knew that nature and god would some how provide and did not take the time to worry about little
things. Then one day a trapper complains about Enkidu to the mighty king, Giliamesh, and he decides
to send essentially a prostitute named Shamhat to seduce and use

Starting a Family with Surrogacy Adoptions in Madison, ID
In today s world, there are a number of ways a couple may start a family. Traditionally, the only
options were natural conception or adoption. However, parents may now start a family using
surrogacy adoptions in Madison, Idaho. Surrogacy adoptions in Madison, Idaho provide a number of
benefits to the parents. However, the process is lengthy and a number of legal issues are involved,
therefore, having competent legal counsel to assist parents through this process is essential.
During a surrogacy adoption, another woman will carry the couple s child to term on their behalf.
Often, the couple s genetic material will be injected into the uterus of this woman; therefore, the child
she carries may not be biologically related to her. Surrogacy adoption provides parents struggling with
infertility the opportunity to bring a biological child into the world. In other cases, donor eggs or
sperm may be used.
To begin the surrogacy adoption process, the parents should consult an adoption attorney who has
experience in these unique adoptions. The attorney will be able to help the parents find a suitable
surrogate with a clean health record, and will draft the necessary contracts for the parties to sign. With
the assistance of the attorney, the parents will maintain

A Brief Note On Unfair Taxing Of Food
Unfair Taxing of Food Miraaj Pirali Houston Baptist University Food is a necessity. People must eat
to stay alive. However, what people eat is completely up to them. There are people that prefer to eat
healthy and stay fit, and then there are those that that prefer an unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle.
Those that lead an unhealthy lifestyle tend to eat foods high in fats, sugars, and unhealthy chemicals.
Foods such as these cause obesity and other health related problems. There are many ideas that have
been thrown out to keep people from eating unhealthy. One of these ideas is; to encourage healthy
eating, higher taxes should be imposed on soft drinks and junk food. While looking at the bigger
picture, one will realize that this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may be true, however, one should consider the fact that the low income families cannot afford to
buy any other healthy alternatives either. Consequently, this puts low income families in a hole. They
could not afford healthy alternatives to begin with and now they cannot afford junk food and soft
drinks either. Raising taxes on junk food and soft drinks may also leave low income consumers with
insufficient fronds to purchase other basic necessities (Pratt, 2013). Raising taxes on food is not only
heartless; it is also unethical because they are being deprived of an essential need. (Frank et al. 2013)
Taxing junk foods and soft drinks affects more than just the people buying them; it also affects the
companies selling them. Increasing the price of unhealthy foods is likely to reduce overall
consumption (Badilas, 2011). There are many different companies that are responsible for producing
junk food and soft drinks. If taxes are raised for all junk foods and soft drinks, then there is a high
probability that the public will stop buying certain items. If this does happen, then that specific item
people stop buying can cause the company producing it to go out of business. This could be multiple
companies or just one. Whether if it s one or multiple companies going out of business, there certainly
is an issue here. This will definitely cause an

actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area (para.1). The reason we see
more active threat incidents in the news is not due to the media, but because there has been an
increasing trend of such events. A study of 160 active shooter incidents from 2000 to 2013 has shown

The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao By Junot Diaz
Writers are people of great influence; they write for many reasons including to inform, express an
emotion, or even to persuade. With skill in rhetoric, writers may have the power to convince readers to
succumb to their beliefs. In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Junot Díaz displays this
great influential power of a writer and compares it with the ideas of dictatorship. Díaz uses two types
of dictators in the book: a Dominican dictator named Rafael Trujillo and the narrator of the story,
Yunior. Both hold a similar dictatorial power over groups of people whether they are citizens of a
country or readers of a novel; writers can dictate what they wish their readers to know, just as dictators
of a country can divulge or withhold any information they wish their citizens to know. The character
Yunior, a friend of the de León Cabral family, narrates the stories of the family s lives to give an
account of the effects Trujillo and the curse of the fukú had on them. Through his account of their life
stories, Yunior uses his writing to counter Trujillo s power creating his own counterspell, or zafa, to
reduce the negative effects of the fukú. Yunior serves as a dictator by writing the book as a zafa
through withholding information from readers and degrading Trujillo in the story, all while displaying
the problems of a dictatorial voice.
To counter the fukú curse that lingers in the lives of the de León Cabral family, Yunior s recounting of
the family s stories acts as

Abstract
Prostate Cancer is a disease in which there is an uncontrolled growth of cells that lines the ducts of the

Symptoms
There are many symptoms that can cause suspicion of Prostate Cancer. While very few men show no
signs or symptoms of this cancer many men show signs in their urine. ( Prostate Cancer ) Frequent
urination, the frequent use of the bathroom, is one of the most common signs of Prostate Cancer.
During the night a male that possibly has this cancer uses the bathroom 6 to 7 times. ( Fact Sheet )
Other symptoms may include blood in the urine or semen, delayed or slowed start of urinary stream
and dribbling or leakage of urine. Bone pain or tenderness, along with pain in bowel movements, can
also be a major symptom, but not as common. ( Prostate Cancer ) Although these are symptoms of
Prostate Cancer, they can also be signs of other diseases and is recommended to see a doctor for
diagnostic testing.
Diagnosis
There are multiple methods for screening for Prostate Cancer; the most common is Digital Rectal
Examination. During a digital rectal exam a doctor inserts a glove, lubricated finger into the rectum to
feel for any irregular or abnormal firm area in the prostate gland.
Another method to detect this cancer is with a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA). Protein in the blood
that is produced only by prostate cells is reflected the volume of both benign and malignant prostate
tissue in the PSA. The higher the PSA level is the more likely it is that Prostate Cancer present. (

On the other side of that, Mitch and his Wife are helping each other and supporting each other to the

Understanding The Historical-Cultural Context Paper
1. What can happen when people approach the Bible without any concern for the historical cultural
context? We misinterpret what God is trying to say. We need to understand what the audience was
going through in the time that God was speaking to them. We need to understand the situation so that
it can impact us the way that God intended it to impact the audience he was speaking to. One
awesome example that the author points out is the parable of the Good Samaritan. When Jesus starts
that A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho by looking at different resources to get the
historical context we can find elevation, the route, the weather patterns, and most importantly the
terrain. We would find out that Jerusalem is 2500 feet above sea level and Jericho is about 800 feet
below sea level. The route is 20 miles and the terrain is very rugged. (Duvall, 2008, p. 53) So we can

example I am going to use a different part of the Parable of the Good Samaritan the Samaritan and the

may have become ritually unclean. The Samaritan stopped and helped them man dying on the side of

who were guilty of false worship. So stopping and showing compassion when the others did not would
be very humiliating to the Jews in which Jesus was speaking. Through research I found out it would

  • 3. Network Based Intrusion Detection Systems ( Idss ) Abstract: Providing security in a distributed system is important as cloud computing provides variety of convenient services. IDS implementation in cloud requires an efficient, scalable and a constructive approach. Many Network based intrusion detection systems(NIDS) are used for the reception of packets from the cloud, but those systems possess lower detection rate, high false positive rate and they fail to resist single point attack. I would like to propose one method which I encountered and found out to be efficient compared to other methods. This unique model has multiple intrusion detection systems (IDSs) that are deployed in each layer of the cloud infrastructure for protecting each Virtual Machine against threats. Another catching feature is that of cloud alliance concept which exchanges mutual alerts to resist the single point attack of failure. Introduction Cloud Computing The term cloud is analogical to Internet. Similarly cloud computing is a model for delivering information technology services in which resources are retrieved from the internet through web based tools and applications, rather than a direct connection to a server.(Corey 2008) Figure 1: Overview of Cloud Computing, Source: Sam Johnston, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cloud_computing.svg Cloud computing is Internet based computing wherein the virtual shared servers provide infrastructure, platform and various resources including customer hosting as a service on pay as you use basis. • 4. Essay on Oil in Texas How did the national demand for oil affect the local businesses in Texas, and how did Texas oil discoveries affect the national oil market? As the Texas oil industry grew, so did related industries. Some companies began producing oil by products such as petrochemicals. Others produced pipelines, barrels, and oil field equipment. As these companies began moving into oil towns such as Houston, Beaumont, and Port Arthur, they further expanded the local economies. Some moved into small towns, quickly turning them into cities. In North Texas the town of Wichita Falls grew from 8,200 residents in 1910 to about 40,000 in 1920.The state income also increased from just over $101,000 in 1906 to $5.9 million in 1929, largely due to the oil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gradually, the oil glut began to affect ordinary Texans. Soon after Spindletop, the availability of an ocean of cheap oil encouraged its use as fuel for transportation and manufacturing. After railroads converted from coal to oil, steamships followed, led by those operating in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. As automobiles became more common, roads began to be paved across the state. Mechanization of farm work increased quickly, enabling farmers to produce more food with fewer people. Manufacturing plants developed in the formerly agricultural state, using cheap oil as fuel. Texas population scales, heavily weighted toward the rural before Spindletop, started to balance, and by 1940, the population was almost even: 55 percent rural and 45 percent urban. World War II tipped the scales, however, when wartime jobs at manufacturing plants in the cities lured large numbers of people from farms and small towns. Most never returned. This displacement of farming families was exacerbated by the absorption of many family farms into large corporate operations. Increasing numbers of migrants from other states and foreign countries also settled principally in urban centers. By 1980, the state was four fifths urban. The political economy of resource rich states faces an inherent tension between the role of the state and the private sector over control of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Awareness Of Physical Activity Guidelines Awareness of physical activity guidelines amongst the UK student population was found to be 69.6% in this study. This varies considerably from awareness levels determine on a national level in other developed, high income countries similar to the UK. A recent study in America for example, found that just 36.1% of adults were aware that government physical activity guidelines (Kay et al., 2014). This difference in awareness may be explained by a number of factors. Knowledge and awareness of physical activity guidelines has been shown to be positively associated with education level and socioeconomic status, as well as being negatively associated with age (Knox et al., 2013; Bergman et al., 2008). This may partially explain why the university students in this study had a higher level of awareness than the wider general population. When asked to recite the guidelines, it has been found in other studies that those who participate in higher levels of physical activity, tend to overestimate the guidelines, and those with low physical activity levels underestimate them on average (Hunter et al., 2014; Knox et al., 2015). This agrees with the findings from this study, in which variation between the perceived and actual guidelines was found to be an independent predictor of physical activity (p 0.05). Whilst most participants (over 65%) in the study believed that they understood what the terms moderate and vigorous physical activity meant. However, when their understanding was ... Comparison of The Red Room, The Signalman and The Ostler A gothic story is a type of romantic fiction that existed in English Literature in the last third of the 18th century and the first two decades of the 19th century, the setting for which was usually a ruined gothic castle of Abbey. The gothic novel or gothic romance emphasised mystery and horror and was filled with ghost haunting rooms, underground passages, and secret stairways. The stories I m looking at are The Red Room, The Signalman and The Ostler. The Red Roomwas written by Herbert George Wells in 1896. H.G.Wells was born in Bromley, Kent on September 21st 1866. Son of Joseph Wells, an unsuccessful shopkeeper and his wife Sarah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The technique was used by Dickens in his novels, and by sanitary reformers in their reports. Indeed, when Edwin Chadwick was writing his great reports on the condition of towns, he consulted the novelist on the best way of presenting his evidence. Dickens brother in law was a leading sanitary reformer, the author of a nauseating account of burial grounds, oozing with disgusting secretions. Before Dickens died on June 8th 1870, he read the report and dreamed of putrefaction and the images recur in his novels, of blockages, decay, stickiness which makes the reader feel the texture of the city The Ostler was written by Wilkie Collins in 1855. Wilkie Collins was born in London on January 8th 1824. William Wilkie Collins, author of the first detective novels in English, son of a respected landscape painter, he was named after his painter godfather, David Wilkie. • 7. Eli Wiesel Book Report Night Night by Eli Wiesel Amrinder Bhuller P.2 Author: The author of Night is Elie Wiesel. In my opinion, he did a very good job in writing this story! Eli was born on September 30, 1928. Eli is currently 86 and has written a lot of books. Eli had served as a prisoner Auschwitz and other concentration camps. He wrote all his experiences in this book. The Night talks about his experiences in these concentration camps and all he went through. Everything is probably historically correct because he went through all this and he wrote the book because of what happened to him. He is currently a Jewish American professor. Then when Hitler gets stopped, a ray of hope is emerged. The Jews were finally able to live their lives and finally have the darkness go away. Hitler had surrounded their lives with darkness because he was trying to eliminate all Jews. Hitler died and the Jews had nothing to be scared of except for God. Figurative language: There wasn t maybe figurative languages besides smilies but I did find some. An example of a simile in the book is: The barbed wire that encircled us like a wall did not fit us with real fear. (Page 11). The simile refers to that the Jews were basically in a camp in which they were surrounded by a barbed wire. This simile is a big factor because it shows that the people are trapped with wires around them giving them no chance to escape. Another example is figurative language was personification. I believe it is important to emphasize how strongly I feel that books, just like people, have a destiny. (Page 17). This is an example of personification because the author is relating a non living object to something that a living object has. We, people, have a destiny and no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sheng Xuanhuai 盛宣懷 (1844 1916), former Minister of Communications and Junior Guardian of the Heir Apparent (taizi taibao 太子太保) of the Qing Dynasty (1644 1911), passed away in Shanghai on April 27, 1916. In November 1917, the Sheng family assembled an unprecedentedly extravagant funeral procession in the International Settlement of Shanghai. Widely believed to have cost the Sheng family 300,000 silver dollars, the mile long cortege passed along major streets at the heart of Shanghai and thereby captivated probably over one million spectators. The 1917 funeral procession of Sheng Xuanhuai made a lasting impression upon the Shanghai citizens as a grand spectacle in this city. While a living Sheng Xuanhuai s accomplishment in modernizing China s industry, commerce, education, and transportation has been fruitfully studied, this article turns attention to a deceased Sheng s contribution to shaping a modern sensibility in early twentieth century Shanghai. • 10. Discrimination Against Women s Rights Alexandra Heck Contemp Perspectives Raju Parrakkal 13 October 2015 Women s Rights Discrimination against women has been a phenomenon for centuries, lack of women s rights and equality is a long overdue issue that needs to be abolished. The need to make a concrete connection between human rights and women s rights is ironic considering that one half of the global population is female (Hawkins 1). Gender inequality is the pressing current human rights issue, including disparities in education, employment, healthcare, power and decision making, violence, and poverty that impacts billions of women and girls from every part of the world throughout their lifetime (UN Statistical Division, 2010; UN Women, 2011a). The United Nations has extended efforts for growing global rights effort to compensated the deeply rooted gender inequality (Hawkins 1). This paper addresses gender based inequality and current global human rights initiatives focused on women, and action taken by women and human rights defenders (Hawkins 1). While human rights violations can affect all groups, including women (1), women s issues are not the same as gender issues, although the terms are often used interchangeably (1). In its annual report, the UN Population Fund note that gender inequality works to the disadvantages of both women and men through impeding the growth of individuals, the development of countries, and the evolution of societies (UN Statistical Division, 2010, UN Women, 2000). In this way the bank can reduce the uncertainty in the future by entering into an agreement with set terms for a specific date. Thus, if the interest rate moves in an unfavorable direction, the bank has the option to use these tools in order to mitigate the impact of the change on its balance sheet. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using swaps rather than these other means? Advantages: There are no capital reserve requirements specific to swaps. Swaps do not appear as assets on the balance sheet and thus they are not accounted for in the capital requirement calculations for the bank. This frees capital for the bank and at the same time brings insurance against its interest rate exposure. Swaps give flexibility and allow the bank to design the contracts in a way that fits its needs. Banks can tailor the durations, rates and other terms of the swap contracts and make it specific to the current situation of the bank. Furthermore, they can easily communicate with other banks in order to construct contracts, which benefit both sides. Swaps can also improve the bank s liquidity It can invest in short term instruments and thus avoid locking in its funds in long term securities. At the same time it can add swaps to its portfolio in order to mitigate some of the interest rate risk involved in the investment of short term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether they are parents, spouses, or children, they feel as though they owe their family members something, and in a way they do. If they are a spouse, their spouse gave them love and chose them, and therefore they owe them all the love they can give. If they are parents, they brought their children into the world, and they must care for them. But above all, humans have a responsibility to themselves, to love, respect, and care for themselves. Theorists have tried to explain sociological behaviour by looking at the patterns created by individuals that commit crime. The August 2011 riots are pivotal in explaining criminological behaviour since official statistics show that 865 individuals were put in prison by the 9th September 2011 for offences related to the disorder between 6th and 9th August 2011. Becker came to the conclusion that people are criminalised through the process of negotiation, known to be social constructionism for example the Crown Prosecution Service may drop the charge of murder to manslaughter if there is not enough evidence to convict for murder. By doing this the defendant becomes labelled for the crime of manslaughter even though he may truly be guilty of murder. By introducing what could be regarded as petty legislation more people will be labelled criminals, which in turn may lead the offender to act further on this basis. Lemert referred to this as secondary deviance as when a person is labelled criminal they change their view of themselves and this then becomes their master status . On the other hand primary deviance is when someone violates a social code, but does not get labelled. Therefore a person is only labelled a criminal if he is caught and since ethnic minorities are subject to much more scrutiny than the white population this puts black people at an automatic disadvantage. The resource base view of strategy however points not to industry structure but to the unique clusters of resource and capabilities each company possesses (Collis and Montgomery 1995, Stalk et al 1992) and therefore is much better suited in analyzing Amazon s strategic capabilities. The Resource Based View assumes that firms can be conceptualized as bundles of resources and those resources are heterogeneously distributed across firms and that resource differences persist over time (Amit and Schoemaker, 1993) and when firms have resources that are valuable, rare, inimitable and non substitutable (VRIN) they can achieve competitive advantage that cannot be easily duplicated by other firms. This may be true, however, one should consider the fact that the low income families cannot afford to buy any other healthy alternatives either. Consequently, this puts low income families in a hole. They could not afford healthy alternatives to begin with and now they cannot afford junk food and soft drinks either. Raising taxes on junk food and soft drinks may also leave low income consumers with insufficient fronds to purchase other basic necessities (Pratt, 2013). Raising taxes on food is not only heartless; it is also unethical because they are being deprived of an essential need. (Frank et al. 2013) Taxing junk foods and soft drinks affects more than just the people buying them; it also affects the companies selling them. Increasing the price of unhealthy foods is likely to reduce overall consumption (Badilas, 2011). There are many different companies that are responsible for producing junk food and soft drinks. If taxes are raised for all junk foods and soft drinks, then there is a high probability that the public will stop buying certain items. If this does happen, then that specific item people stop buying can cause the company producing it to go out of business. This could be multiple companies or just one. The U.S. Department of Justice (n.d.) defines an active shooter as, an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area (para.1). The reason we see more active threat incidents in the news is not due to the media, but because there has been an increasing trend of such events. In the early morning hours of July 20, 2012, Holmes entered the theatre and shot 70 people, killing 12 (TriData Division, System Planning Corporation (TDSPC), 2014). Police response to this incident was quick with 14 units on the scene within 4 minutes, 6 of them there in just over two minutes (TDSPC, 2014). The most important concept taken from this incident, however was the triage and care of victims on the scene. One of the officers that arrived on the scene was a SWAT paramedic who conducted triage on the victims inside the theatre itself (TDSPC, 2014). Having a police officer conduct triage inside the theatre allowed fire and emergency medical services personnel in safe zones conducting medical treatment likely save time and lives (TDSPC, 2014). Additionally, police cars were used in the transport of 27 individuals to area hospitals, some of which may have died waiting on transportation via other means (TDSPC, 2014). The Aurora Police Department actually transported more people than ambulances, who transported 20 victims (TDSPC, 2014). • 33. The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao By Junot Diaz Writers are people of great influence; they write for many reasons including to inform, express an emotion, or even to persuade. With skill in rhetoric, writers may have the power to convince readers to succumb to their beliefs. In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Junot Díaz displays this great influential power of a writer and compares it with the ideas of dictatorship. Díaz uses two types of dictators in the book: a Dominican dictator named Rafael Trujillo and the narrator of the story, Yunior. Both hold a similar dictatorial power over groups of people whether they are citizens of a country or readers of a novel; writers can dictate what they wish their readers to know, just as dictators of a country can divulge or withhold any information they wish their citizens to know. The character Yunior, a friend of the de León Cabral family, narrates the stories of the family s lives to give an account of the effects Trujillo and the curse of the fukú had on them. Through his account of their life stories, Yunior uses his writing to counter Trujillo s power creating his own counterspell, or zafa, to reduce the negative effects of the fukú. Yunior serves as a dictator by writing the book as a zafa through withholding information from readers and degrading Trujillo in the story, all while displaying the problems of a dictatorial voice. To counter the fukú curse that lingers in the lives of the de León Cabral family, Yunior s recounting of the family s stories acts as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Understanding The Historical-Cultural Context Paper 1. What can happen when people approach the Bible without any concern for the historical cultural context? We misinterpret what God is trying to say. We need to understand what the audience was going through in the time that God was speaking to them. We need to understand the situation so that it can impact us the way that God intended it to impact the audience he was speaking to. One awesome example that the author points out is the parable of the Good Samaritan. When Jesus starts that A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho by looking at different resources to get the historical context we can find elevation, the route, the weather patterns, and most importantly the terrain. We would find out that Jerusalem is 2500 feet above sea level and Jericho is about 800 feet below sea level. The route is 20 miles and the terrain is very rugged. A Priest and a Levite passed the man either because they didn t see him or because they may have become ritually unclean. The Samaritan stopped and helped them man dying on the side of the road. The Jews Considered the Samaritans half breeds who had intermarried with foreigners and who were guilty of false worship. So stopping and showing compassion when the others did not would be very humiliating to the Jews in which Jesus was speaking.
