An X-Ray of Mexico Essay
Mexico is one of the most interesting countries in our world today; from the land features such as the
high plateau and the mountain chains, to the culture that the people of Mexico practice in their every
day lives. The connection between both physical and human geography in Mexico, run hand in hand
together. Therefore, in this paper, I will be identifying the different aspects of both physical and
human geographical ideas and practices, that Mexico possesses. The physical geography of Mexico is
very rare due to its vast different landforms that this country consists of. Mexico has a broad range of
landforms including many different plateau s and the two distinct mountain ranges. The two main
mountain ranges include The Sierra Madre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

resources for Mexico, and other countries around the world ( Mexico Rocks and Minerals ).
Throughout central and southern Mexico, there are high rates of precipitation. Therefore with all the
precipitation and solar energy, some of the richest soils are produced in the heart of Mexico. With
these accommodations, mostly infertile yellowish soils are produced that are high in iron oxides and
also aluminum hydroxide ( Mexico Geography and Climate ). These rich in base soils are easily
crumbled and are continuously farmed annually. But with the continuous farming with these soils,
sheet erosion is starting to effect the soil and cause problems within the environment ( Encyclopedia

whether it be the blistering heat for two straight weeks, or precipitation for an extended period of time.

The Equal Employment Opportunities Commission
The Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) is in charge of implementing government
laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, 1964 and Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act
of 1990 (ADA), which make it unlawful to oppress an occupation candidate or a worker in light of the
individual s race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or hereditary data. (US Equal
Employment Opportunities Commission, 2015) The laws apply to a wide range of work
circumstances, including contracting, terminating, advancements, harassment, training, wages, and
benefits. Businesses with no less than 15 representatives are secured by EEOC laws, and additionally
most worker s unions and business agencies are likewise secured. The EEOC has the power to
examine charges of oppression against business employers who are secured by the law. Their part is to
survey the claims in the charge and make a finding based on the results of their investigation. If
discrimination has happened, they attempt to settle the charge. If still they are not effective, they have
the power to file a suit to ensure the people s rights. (US Equal Employment Opportunities
Commission, 2015) Section 2000e 5. [Section 706] of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
enforcement provisions prevent unlawful employment practices such as harassment, including sexual
harassment. Marwan not only passed salacious comments and motions at one of his co workers, but

Bernie Madoff Research Paper
In 2008 this country faced one of the worst fraud scams in the history of the United States. Bernie
Madoff one of the most reputable hedge fund managers at the time perpetrated a ponzi scheme of epic
proportions. Bernie Madoff was able to fraud investors of over 25 billion dollars, creating a non
transparent business envoirment. This atrocity effected different types of investors, expanding across
all different industries, and with his transgressions he earned 150 years in jail. Since then regulation in
the accounting and Finance field has increased dramatically, and has made it a lot harder for
companies to get away with cooking the books . Bernie Madoff started his investing days in the 1960s.

Named after Charles Ponzi in 1919 a ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment scam promising high
rates of return with little risk to investors, by taking money from new investors in order to pay older
investors (Investopedia). It all started when Charles Ponzi guaranteed clients that he was able to bring
customer 50 % roi in just 90 days (Business Insider). Madoff received money from new prospective
investors, using the new money he received from investors he payed off old investors, who decided to
stop investing with Madoff. This caused a huge asymmetric rift that favored Madoff greatly, because
his reputation automatically attracted investors to his hedge fund, without investors knowing he was
purposely stealing their money. A question remains why was this able to be to continue for so long?
There are many reasons but to begin Bernie Madoff s reputation helps us answer this question. Bernie
Madoff was a highly regarded financial mind in the industry for many years. He was the chairman of
the Nasdaq, one of the big 3 exchanges in the United States. This brought him to the public eye even
more then he already was. However the big reinforcement to Madoff s credibility was the contionous
backing from the SEC. The SEC gave Madoff even more clout then he already had in the industry.
When you combine backing from the SEC and a quality reputation of providing high returns, sets up
for an investor hotbed. Madoff;s time was running out however, his consistent success made other
investors/ firms inquisitive about where he received his money

Water Quality Lab Report
This lab report is based on the question, what is the water quality of the U High creek based on the
invertebrates found? To answer the question there needs to be an understanding of the measures of
water quality. The pH range of healthy water is 6.5 8.5. pH is used to measure the relative acidity of
solutions such as water. If there is too much of nitrogen and phosphorous it will increase the growth of
aquatic plants and algae, which leads to the bacteria decomposing the dead plant material. The
decomposition removes the dissolved oxygen from the water. Dissolved oxygen is the waste product
of photosynthesis. Dissolved oxygen affects organisms because some organisms cannot tolerate too
low or too high dissolved oxygen levels which lowers the diversity of organisms in the water.
(Riverwatch, 2013) Invertebrates can also measure the water quality based on how much pollution is
in the water. There are 3 types of invertebrate indicators of water quality, based on the population of
pollution tolerant, moderately tolerant, and pollution intolerant. This shows how healthy the water is.
If pollution tolerant invertebrates are living in the water then that infers that the water quality is not
good because it has a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

America vs Language
In the article, Speak Spanish, You re in America!: El Huracan over language and Culture, Juan
Gonzalez, a journalist and broadcaster of the daily show, Democracy Now, describes how bilingualism
has impacted the United States modern education system. He describes an amendment that would
constitute English as the official in the United States, which he believes can be a potential threat to the
educational system. Gonzalez suggests that instead of having an amendment that constitutes English
as the national language, American schools should implement Spanish to highlight the importance of
being bilingualism in the American educational system. A constitutional amendment declaring English
as the national language would be damaging to bilingual students because it would limit their
capability of communicating in English or their native language, and therefore they have would fall
behind in classes and will not succeed in the American educational system. To highlight the
importance of bilingualism, even more the educational system should implement a variety of
languages.
It is beneficial for bilingual students to be taught in both their native language and in English to
assimilate with ease into the American educational system. Gonzalez demonstrates how Native
Americans, especially the Cherokees implemented English in their curriculum while also teaching
them their own language. This form of teaching did not only teach

Comparing The Red Room by H.G. Wells and The Darkness Out There by Penelope Lively
The Red Room was the earlier of the two stories written in 1896 by H.G. Wells and The Darkness Out
There , written by Penelope Lively was published in1984.
The titles of both stories suggest that fear or horror will play a part. The Darkness Out There generates
an eerie feeling by not defining a specific threat but leaving it open to the imagination. The Red Room
is not as scary but the use of red often shows danger or fear and this is why it has been used here.
H.G. Wells does not give his main character a name as it is written in the first person. Penelope Lively

perfect. We are also introduced briefly to characters who we later meet again, Mrs Rutter ( She s a
dear old thing ) and Pat who, although she is not described as very nice looking, runs a Good
neighbours club for children. As the story opens Sandra is on her way to help Mrs Rutter with one of
the others from the club although she does not know who that will be.
We are suddenly told about Packers End and immediately it is clear that it is not a nice place, it was
where a German plane had come down during the war and it was said that people still heard the pilots
talking. You didn t go by yourself through Packers End if you could help it, not after teatime, anyway.
Packers End is described as a rank place, all whippy saplings and brambles and a gully with a dumped
mattress and a bedstead and an old fridge. And somewhere, presumably, the crumbling rusty scraps of
metal and cloth and … bones?
The Red Room however begins in an old dark castle and you are immediately plunged into the story
with descriptions and introductions happening along the way.

Freud s Psychosexual Stages Of Development
Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist born on the sixth of May in 1856. He began his
researches of the human mind in 1881, while America and Europe reformed insane asylums and
became more fascinated with unnatural psychological states. He first studied nervous diseases
examining fish and simultaneously attaining his degree at the University of Vienna, and in the late
nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Freud explored the human psyche far more than other
neurologists during his time, which earned him the title of the founding father of psychoanalysis.
Eventually he explored conflicts from a person s adolescence and how they had an astounding effect
on adulthood and created what became known to be his Psychosexual Stages of Development.
Freud s psychosexual stages of development is a concept derived from the belief that any problems
that occurred through adulthood were the primary result of experiences in early childhood
matriculation. He gathered that the human species went through five stages of psychosexual
development, and that during each stage of this development, experienced a sense of euphoria in a
particular body part more than others. The areas of our bodies that felt this sensation were known as
erogenous zones, which were specific parts of the human anatomy such as the mouth, the anus, and
the genitals, that contained vigorous pleasure emitting qualities at specific stages of development in
accordance with personality development focused on the

The Passing Of Time In Virignia Woolf s To The Lighthouse
The passage discussed from Virignia Woolf s To The Lighthouse takes place in the chapter Time
Passes , and indeed, the passing of time is a central theme. Literary devices such as assonance,
imagery and narrative voice are utilised to explore the tension between the brevity of human life and
the expansion of natural time. The structure of the passage, especially the final paragraph in
parenthesis, highlights the distinction between the finite human life and the infinite course of time.
The sounds and textures of words play a great importance within the passage. Compare the harsh b
consonance in the alliterative description of how bones bleach and burn far away in Indian sands
(Woolf, 139), and the sounds used in descriptions of how the light mellows the enrgy of labour, and
smooths the stubble (139). The assonance of the o and s sound elongates the verbs mellows and
smooths and creates a soft texture to the words. There is a clear tension between the sharp b
consonance and elongated o assonance within these words. The narrative voice utilises the sharper
sounds when describing human death, perhaps to connect the quick pop of the b consonance with the
quick extinguishing of human life; later in the passage, Mrs Ramsay s death occurs rather suddenly the
night before . Through sounds, words come to represent the disparity between the fleeting human life
and natural time.
Imagery is used to express how time occurs in a series of continuous moments, but for us mortals, this
time has an end. Within the image of how so soon a bird sings, a cock crows (139), the birds acts as
symbols for the coming morning, for the crowing of a cock is often associated with sunrise and
morning. The call of these birds follows the moment darkness dims so soon (139), and with the
repetition of how the birds appear so soon after the short space of a single night, the narrative voice
creates an image of the continuous cycle of day and night a cycle that is intimately connected to
nature. Following this bird imagery, the narrative voice depicts how following the night, a faint green
quickens, like a turning leaf, in the hollow of the wave . These images are all connected to a natural
world separated from

river valley (extending into present day Kentucky). The Osage Tribe has been in North America for
thousands of years, but French explorers first discovered them around 1675. It is thought that they are
descendants of various cultures of indigenous people. After the 16th century, the tribe migrated west
of the Mississippi when wars with the Iroquois tribe over hunting lands occurred. The word Osage is a
French variation of the tribe s name, which can roughly be translated as warlike . In the early 19th
century, the Osage Nation, which comprised two bands, the Great Osage and the Little Osage, had a

Understanding Homeland Security
a poor interpretation, information wasn t being shared. This made it almost impossible to connect the

After the attacks on September 11, 2001, there were several changes that had to be made. Although the
9/11 attacks were a case of international terrorism, the new policies that were implemented would
cover all forms of terrorism. On November 25, 2002, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
was established. In the book Understanding Homeland Security, the author states, although homeland
security can certainly be significantly affected by threats originating from international sources (such
as al Qaeda), the concept of defending the homeland inside its borders is at the heart of homeland
security (Martin, 2017). Since operations of DHS began, it has continuously grown in size. Today,

The White Queen Called It, Living Backwards
The White Queen called it living backwards. She was referring, of course, to life on the other side of a
looking glass. Indeed, traveling through a looking glass, if it were possible, would be a contortion of
space, a reversal of the orderly world in the frontward side of the glass with the disorder found in the
backward side. Everything would, like the queen said, be turned around. So if someone in Victorian
England squeezed herself through a looking glass, she might find, instead of the classic Victorian ideal
of the tranquil home where the husband brought home the bacon and the wife happily cooked it,
homes in which strong wives dominated weak, ineffectual husbands and husbands who, instead of
coming home each evening to restore themselves within the loving familial bond, escaped that bond
by taking long naps and dreaming strange dreams. Indeed, instead of finding homes in which the
spaces between marriage partners were narrowed, someone wandering through a looking glass world
would find emotional gulfs between partners, gulfs that even the most stringent Victorian ideals could
not close. These emotional spaces in Lewis Carroll s Through The Looking Glass and What Alice
Found There can be seen through another lens as well. While Alice, the book s heroine,
metaphorically grows into adulthood as she moves her way across the fictional chessboard, the author
remains static; Carroll watches wistfully as the emotional space between himself and

References to primarily American popular culture and literature create a discourse investigating the
merits of our nation s development. Each text employs comedy at Sigmund Freud s tendentious level
of jest to challenge personal and social reticence without appearing antagonistic to any specific group.
The use of intertexuality condenses the length of the works and lends to the humor of the subject
matter by alluding to already familiar people, places, and events in American culture. Without prior
knowledge of such entities, most of the texts meaning and wit will be lost. Nevertheless, a complete
understanding of such allusions will reveal the juxtaposition of America s modern progression: society
has improved in certain aspects, yet has somewhat been demoted in other regards.
The long established attraction of migrating to America is derived from its historic reputation as the
land of opportunity. The Statue of Liberty symbolizes the ability of the wretched refuse to surpass
birth and class distinctions through hard work and economy. But the overwhelming importance placed
on possessions as status symbols has gradually lost its allure. In Music For Torching, A.M. Homes
reveals that the contemporary world of suburbia, viewed as the culmination of financially successful
households, is not as wonderful as it is presumed to be. Her constant citation of designer labels reveals

Plato s Classical Athenian Architecture, Drama, And Arts
Plato
Plato was born around 428 B.C., Both of Plato s parents were from distinguished aristocratic families.
Besides being born into an illustrious family, Plato was born into an illustrious city. He was born in
the wake of Athens s Golden Age, the period that had witnessed Athens s the beginning of the
strongest Greek power, the birth of classical Athenian architecture, drama, and arts. His father Ariston
died when he was a child. His mother Perictione remarried the politician Pyrilampes. He was educated
in philosophy, poetry and gymnastics by distinguished Athenian teachers including the philosopher
Cratylus.

Plato what is at stake is a clash between what we might call comprehensive world views; it seems that
matters of grave importance in ethics, politics, metaphysics, theology, and e are at stake. Plato agrees
that Homer is indeed the educator of Greece, and immediately adds that Homer is the most poetic and
first of the tragic poets. Plato is setting himself against what he takes to be the entire outlook in
contemporary. Since Homer shaped the popular culture of the times, Plato is setting himself against
popular culture as he knew it. Plato has in his sights all of poetry, contending that its influence is
pervasive and often harmful, and that its insite about nature and the divine are mistaken.
It is not easy to understand what Plato means by poetry, whether it is dangerous because of its form or
content or both. These questions are complicated by the fact that Plato was not thinking of poetry as a
written text read in silence; he had in mind performances, often experienced in theater. When Socrates
and Plato conducted their inquiries, poetry was far more influential than what Plato calls philosophy.
Few people today would imagine that there is any interesting relation between poetry and rhetoric. To
think of great poets as rhetoricians seems weird, and most rhetoricians do not seem to know the first
thing about poetry. Yet Plato himself associates the two very closely: at Gorgias he characterizes

Diocese of St. Augustine. It is located in Saint John s County and in a rather affluent section. There are
many strengths of San Juan del Rio Catholic School but there are some weaknesses that need to be
addressed. One of the main things we need at San Juan del Rio is more activities and sports teams.
Our students are very competitive and play numerous sports are a part of many clubs outside of
school. They are also very involved in many activities which require travel throughout the year.
Having more activities and sports teams throughout the school year would ensure a variety of students
enrolling in our school and would meet the needs of the students at SJDR. After school programs
develop critical traits that prepare our students or adulthood while keeping them safe and entertained.
At San Juan del Rio, there are not as many programs and sports teams because the school has reached
its capacity when it comes to rooms and fields for the students to play. Money to construct more
buildings and fields is part of the reason why the school does not have more programs than it does.
After school programs serve communities of children and youth all across the United States, and
SJDR needs to be involved in this process. This would also fix the fact that the school is mostly
Caucasian, as it would allow new opportunities for all types of students. After school programs can

Cold War Ending Research Paper
The Cold War ending officially was the result of a long road of issues and crises that occurred for the
Soviet Union over time many factors helped to pave the way for the stumbling USSR to collapse. First
and foremost, among these issues were food shortages as Soviet agriculture was relatively
unproductive because output was hampered in many areas by the climate as roughly only 10% of the
Soviet Union s land was arable. As a result the Soviet Union could not feed its people properly and
throughout history there are many examples of what happens if the people don t get their bread.
Second, among the largest causes of the eventual collapse was Mikhail Gorbachev s policy of
Glasnost and Perestroika. Glasnost means openness and this policy allowed

disagree on the appropriate rating and whether the film was, overall, satisfying in producing
something original. It is balanced in violence and carnage, but keeps it friendly and evades images of

is evidence of a tire being run with little or no inflation pressure. Under the circumstances of this case,
the Plaintiffs must not only show the product was unreasonably dangerous, but they must exclude
other plausible causes of the accident with a fair amount of certainty. Thus, because the Plaintiffs
cannot demonstrate that a characteristic of the tire, which caused it to be unreasonably dangerous,
caused their damage, the Plaintiffs LPLA claim should be

Essay on Spier s Travel Agency
Abstract
An organization functions from the mission statement and the organizational structure. These
functions helps to make a company move smoother within departments, which is assigned to
individuals that are responsible for overseeing that part of the organization. The organization is
responsible with living out the purpose of their mission statement. The organizational structure reflects
from the operative goals to help the organization function accordingly. Operative goals according to
Daft, are performance goals, resource goals, marketing goals, employee development goals,
productivity goals, and goals for innovation and change (p. 63 4), in which the Spier s Travel Agency

Once the organization performs the operative goals, the focus of the goals will help to provide better
performance goals, resource goals, marketing goals, employee development goals, productivity goals,
and goals for innovation and change. For instances, the profitability reflects the overall performance
of for profit organizations. Profitability may be expressed in terms of net income, earning per share, or
return on investment (Daft, 2008, p. 63). The overall performance will be acted upon by the sales that
are promoted, and having the ability to open more available travel agencies with new products and
services to clients. On the other hand, resource goals are pertain to the acquisition of needed material
and financial resources from the environment (Daft, 2008 p. 63). The required resources for this travel
agency needs all available resources to expand on needed material at a lower cost to provide the
clients with the valuable customer service while interacting with employees and having the ability in
accomplishing the clients goals of traveling with Spier s Travel Agency with no worries. Another
operative goal is productivity goal, which concerns the amount of output achieved from available
resources (Daft, 2008, p. 63 4). This goal will be utilized by making sure

Deportation Analysis
According to the Pew Research Center (2014), in 2013 the Obama Administration deported a total of
438,421 unauthorized immigrants (Gonzalez Barrera Krogstad, 2014). These deportations were
expounded upon certain races and unauthorized immigrants of specific ethnic background. More and
more Americans want stricter immigration laws and fewer outsiders who are not native born out of the
United states. By ensuing prejudice throughout the nation, deportation is as form of discrimination.
Deportation, like discrimination, excludes people of a specific race, religion, or ethnic background.
Deportation categorizes the immigrant via visa status, with ethnicity, race or religion. Patrick Simon
(2013), International Migration and Minorities Expert, states,
Direct discrimination occurs if a person or a group is treated unfavorably because of their immigrant
background. The second refers to a situation where formally equal treatment has, or is likely to have,

Immigrants do not hold the same amount of freedoms that naturalized citizens and natives to America,
since their rights can be taken away, just as David Cole (2010), Professor of Law at Georgetown
University, mentions a groundbreaking case in his publication, Are Foreign Nationals Entitled to the
Same Constitutional Rights as Citizens? (Cole, 2010). Cole (2010) states the perspective foreigners
shouldn t be allowed the same rights were backed in April 2003 after the supreme court case of
Demore V. Kim (Cole, 2010; p 368). It was proved through judicial restraint of a 1996 mandatory
detention of deportable immigrants who have been convicted of crimes (Cole, 2010; p 368). This court
case basically found that immigrants, not being naturalized, can be detained because they will not
have the same rights until granted

How Did Gauss Contribute To Math
Carl Friedrich Gauss, from his youth, was destined to be a great mathematician. By the time Gauss
turned three, he had already taught himself to read and write. Additionally, Gauss often told
acquaintances and friends that before he learned to speak, he learned to make mental calculations.
Throughout his lifetime, Gauss made discoveries which would benefit many fields within
mathematics. Gauss contributed greatly to the fields of arithmetic, statistics, geometry, algebra, and
astronomy. The origin of this famed mathematician began in Brunswick, Germany on April 30th in the
year of 1777. Gauss had humble beginnings, and lived in a small house with his parents. Gauss s
parents were both peasant laborers, which was expressed by the local dialect they spoke (West 15 16).
Gauss s father, Gebhard Dietrich Gauss, worked in various areas; he worked as a brick layer, gardener,
canal tender, street butcher, and accountant for funeral society (West 16). Gauss s mother, when she
was Dorothea Benze, worked for seven years as a maid before she married Gebhard. Gauss was
Dorothea s only child, but he had a half brother, Johann George Heinrich, who was the son of Gauss s
father from an earlier marriage (West 16). Gauss was an intelligent child, and at the age of three, he

The idea is despite how meticulously an item is measured in order to receive the correct measurement,
one is likely to observe different lengths each time something is measured. If one takes a measurement
x amount of times, the lengths will likely be similar in value, but they will not all be equal. Therefore,
the true value is unknown. Gauss developed a formula in which all the desired measurements are
taken and the optimal true value can be calculated. Today, statisticians use the Method of Least
Squares when they need to measure errors; the formula allows them to calculate answers (West

Why Is The Pearl Bad
Sometimes one must search for a valuable pearl and find the true villain of that world. The search for
that pearl does not need to go any farther than John Steinbeck s The Pearl. In this story, the assumed
hero, Kino, finds a valuable pearl and starts the downfall of his family with this pearl and his
covetousness for money. So Kino s family and friends are the heroes, while the real villain of The
Pearl is Kino.
Kino knew that the pearl was evil, but he still did not give the pearl away. Kino himself stated that Do
not speak anymore. In the morning we will sell the pearl, then the evil will be gone, and the good will
remain. Now hush my wife. Kino knows that the pearl is evil, but he s caught up in his ambitious
dreams. And he loses the chance to sell the pearl, proving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kino s neighbors state that, Luck, you see, brings bitter friends . This shows that the neighbors of
Kino knew that the pearl was evil, but Kino was not listening, and he started the downfall of his
family. Since Kino did not listen, the pearl unleashed its evil upon Kino and his family. Juana also
stated that, This pearl is like a sin! It will destroy us. Kino acts like he is a man, shows no respect to
his wife, and tells his wife that everything is alright when it is truly not. Kino does not care about the
evil that will hurt his family, he just wants the money. Kino shows a lot of ignorance, which proves the
fact that Kino is the true villain of this story.
Overall, the true villain of this churning story is the one and only Kino. His own thoughts, his abusive
actions, and his ignorance of others truly show that he is the real villain of this story and he brought
down his family. Great stories such as John Steinbeck s The Pearl offer a view of the true villain that
disguises itself as the hero. The story of a villain disguised as the hero is truly an epic story throughout

Moral Of The Canterbury Tales
Now it is time to decide which tale in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, rises above the rest.
I stated at the beginning of our journey to Canterbury that I would pick the tale that is greatest moral
teaching and in entertainment value (17). After intently listening to all of your tales, one stood out
from the others. Though many of you told stories that were offensive to other pilgrims on the trip or
told stories that had little moral significance, I determined that there is one that most fully fulfills the
requirements that I have set forth. I have decided that the Nun s Priest s Tale teaches the greatest moral
lesson while having great entertainment value, making the Nun s Priest the winner of our competition.
The Nun s Priest s Tale is a beast fable, an allegory that utilizes animals with human characteristic in
order to illustrate the message. The tale follows the story of Chanticleer, a beautiful rooster whose
voice was merrier than the merry organ that plays in church, (153). One day, a fox named Russell
comes into the yard and begins complementing Chanticleer on his singing talents, persuading him to
stick out his neck and sing with his eyes closed. Because Chanticleer is so entranced by Russell s
flattery, he closes his eyes and begins to sing, allowing Russell to be able to bite his neck and run with
him into the woods. The moral of the Nun s Priest s Tale is clear: never trust a flatterer. Chanticleers
capture is the result of being careless and

Sickle Cell Disease Paper
This mutation paper is to give information on the Sickle Cell disease. This is a negative disease to
have because the Sickle Cell Disease decreases the health of the person that has the disease and limits
what they can and cannot do. Sickle Cell Disease is a red blood cell disease that causes ab normal
hemoglobin to from in the veins. Hemoglobin is the protein that carries oxygen throughout the body to
help with the respiratory system. The cause of the genetic mutation is inheritance or getting the
disease from the parents the disease is found on chromosome 13 while the hemoglobin is still in beta
phase on gene HB A. The disease typically shows symptoms within the first 5 to 6 months of birth and
being diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease. The symptoms include painful swelling on the hands and
feet, and Jaundice, which causes a white color to form under the eyes, and turns the skin color yellow.
To test for the diagnosis, you must get the testing done when you are first born or a person can get the
disease when you are older so people may want to do a test every 10 years. The testing is done with a
blood test they prick your finger to draw some blood and put the blood sample under a microscope to

tired easily. Also, you must be careful around fluctuating temperatures because it can also increase the
amount of Sickle cells to increase. The likely chance of getting the disease is less than 200,000. In
conclusion, the Sickle Cell Disease is a negative one to have even though there are not many people
who have the disease. Still for the people who have the disease it is negative because the disease limits
what they can do and shortens their chance of survival. This is the side of the argument that argues
that. The Sickle Cell Disease is a terrible one to

Realism In Frank Capra s Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
Frank Capra s Mr. Smith Goes to Washington develops the themes of idealism, realism, and cynicism.
Idealism is the way of looking for the best in everything and not really seeing the bad. Realism is the
way of looking at things the way they are in the real world. Cynicism is the way of thinking that no
one has any good in them and that the whole world is horrible. Capra s Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
brings out the themes of idealism, realism, and cynicism through the main characters, Clarissa
Saunders, Senator Joseph Paine, and Jefferson Smith. Clarissa Saunders came to Washington with
eyes that were big blue question marks now they are green dollar signs. She says this while talking to
her friend and what she means is that she was naive because he is talking all about how he went sight
seeing and loves all the ideals that America stands for, she even lets reporters come and make fun of
him. After Saunders gets to know Jeff she begins to care for him and starts to fall in love with him.
One night while Saunders and Jeff are drafting a bill she learns that he loves Susan Paine and this
breaks her heart. She leaves the city but suddenly realizes that she needs some of Jefferson s idealistic
qualities and goes back. Saunders goes to find Jeff at the Lincoln Memorial and tells him to fight for
what he believes in. This is a turning point for Saunders because she has found out how to balance
idealism with realism. Senator Joseph Paine was once a very good man but has now become

This week I found an article on Frobes.com that looks at the Cuban tech revolution written by Miguel

Cubans looking to make a difference in their country. The first example that was raised to light was
about a young gentleman named Robin Pedraja, he was interested in starting his own online magazine
about Cuba s urban youth culture. Upon asking the Cuban officials he was laughed out of the room,
not taking no for an answer he continued with his dreams and now circulates his publication in a
unique way. Although he publicized his paper the government was not interested in stopping him, they

Optogenetic Chemogenetics
In the past decade, optogenetic and chemogenetic (Armbruster et al. 2007) approaches have
transformed neuroscience and other disciplines by facilitating the reversible, cell type specific control
of cellular signaling and electrical activity (Vardy et al. 2015). Chemogenetics and optogenetics
represent 2 emerging approaches to selectively and, unlike traditional gene therapy, reversibly
manipulate cell phenotypes via gene transfer (Jay Barkin 2014). As complementary technologies, opto
and chemogenetics have demonstrated robust utility for deconstructing the neuronal codes responsible
for both simple and complex behaviors (Deisseroth 2011). Chemogenetics have dramatically

Adamantidis 2015). It enables tunable manipulation of cell phenotypes using light (Jay Barkin 2014).
The technique employs a set of microbial ion channels and pumps that activate upon stimulation by
particular wavelengths of light. After transgenic expression within neurons, these type I opsins permit
optical modulation of membrane depolarisation or hyperpolarisation with temporal precision on the
order of milliseconds (Snowball Schorge 2015). The delivery of genes that encode proteins capable of
conveying light sensitivity to neurons has provided a tool that may overcome some of the limitations
of traditional neuromodulation techniques (Henderson et al. 2009). Srivats et al designed a method to
optogenetically stimulate and inhibit acute pain in both normal and pathological states in freely
moving nontransgenic mice by intrasciatic nerve injection of adeno associated viruses encoding an
excitatory opsin enabled light inducible stimulation of acute pain, place aversion and optogenetically
mediated reductions in withdrawal thresholds to mechanical and thermal stimuli upon transdermal
delievery of optical stimuli. Techniques such as this, which eliminate the need for surgical
implantation of stimulation devices, will obviously have a tremendous impact on the speed with which
optogenetic therapy can

What Is The Irrelevance Theory Of Capital Structure
The literature review discusses the various literatures that derived the study of capital structure of
firms and its impact on profitability and financial performance. In this chapter, we discussed the
literature on capital structure first considering definitions and theories of capital structure and then
empirical literature. It follows the conceptual framework, incorporate scholarly works and theories.
The rationale of the study is to ascertain the role capital structure played in determining profitability.
The literature under review obtained from journal articles, websites and text books.
2.1 CAPITAL STRUCTURE THEORIES:
Modigliani and Miller s (1958) developed the irrelevance theory of capital structure. From the
publication of the irrelevance theory of capital structure , the theory of corporate capital structure has
been a study of interest to many finance researchers.
Over the past few years some major theories of capital structure emerged which deviate from the basic
assumption of perfect capital markets under which the irrelevance theory model is working. The first
is the trade off theory which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

circumstances. The most commonly used elements include consideration of taxes, transaction costs,
bankruptcy costs, agency conflicts, adverse selection, lack of separate ability between financing and
operations, time varying financial market opportunities, and investor clientele effects. Alternative
models use differing elements from this list. Given that so many different ingredients are available, it
is not surprising that many different theories have been proposed. Covering all of these would go well

Struggle Of Funding During The Nineteenth Century Essay
Struggle of Funding In the early 17th century colonist was required to teach their children how to read
the bible. During this period, the Puritans in Massachusetts enacted the Old Deluder Act, forcing
communities of fifty families or more to establish funds, and operate schools. Many didn t follow the
law because they were not privileged as the wealthy communities were; therefore, many poor children
remained uneducated unless they were taught by their families. According to Bayer Sampat, (2016),
the Land Ordinance of 1875, and the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 were passed requiring areas to
establish schools. Thomas Jefferson and Dr. Benjamin Rush spoke in favor of a public education
system, unfortunately it wasn t established until the nineteenth century.
Moving forward, the United States public schools funding comes from the state, the federal
government, and local communities. The appropriation of these funds varies according to several
factors; however, the federal government only gives a fraction of these funds compared to the local
and state governments. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in the United States,
about 93% is funded via the state and local governments (Bayer Sampat, 2016).
As world economy changes defining and reshaping educational policies, goals were set to make global
organizations efficient by decreasing spending to promote cost effectiveness and encouraging
establishments to do better with less. School districts in the

The Cotton Mill Was Extremely Hot Today
The cotton mill was extremely hot today. Westley had been forced to work at this mill at the age of 5
and continues today. Westley was skinny and short with chestnut brown hair that covered his face. He
had a short nose and eyes as brown as the River Thames. His boney face was dotted with freckles. He
almost couldn t believe that he had been working here for 10 long years. How had he lasted being the
way he is? The conditions were horrible and he was treated like garbage but he could never leave. He
would be stuck here in London his entire life. All he ever wanted to do was move to America and

Two months had passed and it had still been the same routine. Westley was just hoping that he could

He rushed to check. One of the machines had exploded and cotton was flying everywhere. The
manager was running around frantically like a fox chasing after a rabbit and everyone else either stood
horrified or ran out of the mill. One thought came to Westley s mind: his friends! He didn t know
where they were or what had happened. All he knew is that both Thomas and Richard worked on
machines. He started to run around frantically.
Thomas! Richard! He shouted running through the mill.
Then he saw it. Lying there on the floor was Thomas. Richard was on his knee pressing on Thomas
chest. He inched forward terrified. Thomas was blue and he lay there stiffer than a log. Westley had
just come up to Thomas when the manager, who almost no one knew anything about including his
name, pushed him out of the way. The manager stared hitting Thomas chest until a look of sudden
realization fell upon his face.

Firestone s An Civil War
Firestone, a tire production company, who owns a base in Liberia got into a predicament on morality
issues. The controversy was over whether or not it was right to continue deploying their workers to
Liberia after war crimes were committed there. During the time Firestone started up its operation of
rubber collecting in Liberia, an ongoing civil war between a rebel force led by Charles Taylor and the
Liberian president at the time, Samuel Doe, interfered with their operation. At first the company had
withdrawn from the crossfire of the war, but soon realized they needed to return due to Firestone s
financial decline. When returning, the tire company had to work under Taylor s stringent rules that
resulted in issues such as the safety of their workers at the Firestone plantation and the exploitation of
workers. The problem with this was that Firestone s primary intention was to return and make a profit,
not taking the lives and opinions of their workers into consideration. Firestone s action was immoral
leading to accepting the abuse and exploitation of their workers on the necessity of making a profit.
Firestone s decision to return back to Liberia after leaving it for the first time was an iniquitous move
on their behalf. Not only did they work under Taylor s imposed rules leading to cruel treatment of
their workers, but had also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Taylor. This agreement
allowed for Firestone to work in Liberia but in a secret business partnership

  • 2. An X-Ray of Mexico Essay Mexico is one of the most interesting countries in our world today; from the land features such as the high plateau and the mountain chains, to the culture that the people of Mexico practice in their every day lives. The connection between both physical and human geography in Mexico, run hand in hand together. Therefore, in this paper, I will be identifying the different aspects of both physical and human geographical ideas and practices, that Mexico possesses. With these accommodations, mostly infertile yellowish soils are produced that are high in iron oxides and also aluminum hydroxide ( Mexico Geography and Climate ). These rich in base soils are easily crumbled and are continuously farmed annually. But with the continuous farming with these soils, sheet erosion is starting to effect the soil and cause problems within the environment ( Encyclopedia of the Nations ). • 4. Bernie Madoff Research Paper In 2008 this country faced one of the worst fraud scams in the history of the United States. Bernie Madoff one of the most reputable hedge fund managers at the time perpetrated a ponzi scheme of epic proportions. Bernie Madoff was able to fraud investors of over 25 billion dollars, creating a non transparent business envoirment. This atrocity effected different types of investors, expanding across all different industries, and with his transgressions he earned 150 years in jail. Since then regulation in the accounting and Finance field has increased dramatically, and has made it a lot harder for companies to get away with cooking the books . Bernie Madoff started his investing days in the 1960s. After he graduated Hofstra University with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Named after Charles Ponzi in 1919 a ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment scam promising high rates of return with little risk to investors, by taking money from new investors in order to pay older investors (Investopedia). It all started when Charles Ponzi guaranteed clients that he was able to bring customer 50 % roi in just 90 days (Business Insider). Madoff received money from new prospective investors, using the new money he received from investors he payed off old investors, who decided to stop investing with Madoff. This caused a huge asymmetric rift that favored Madoff greatly, because his reputation automatically attracted investors to his hedge fund, without investors knowing he was purposely stealing their money. A question remains why was this able to be to continue for so long? There are many reasons but to begin Bernie Madoff s reputation helps us answer this question. Bernie Madoff was a highly regarded financial mind in the industry for many years. He was the chairman of the Nasdaq, one of the big 3 exchanges in the United States. This brought him to the public eye even more then he already was. However the big reinforcement to Madoff s credibility was the contionous backing from the SEC. The SEC gave Madoff even more clout then he already had in the industry. When you combine backing from the SEC and a quality reputation of providing high returns, sets up for an investor hotbed. Madoff;s time was running out however, his consistent success made other investors/ firms inquisitive about where he received his money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Water Quality Lab Report This lab report is based on the question, what is the water quality of the U High creek based on the invertebrates found? To answer the question there needs to be an understanding of the measures of water quality. The pH range of healthy water is 6.5 8.5. pH is used to measure the relative acidity of solutions such as water. If there is too much of nitrogen and phosphorous it will increase the growth of aquatic plants and algae, which leads to the bacteria decomposing the dead plant material. The decomposition removes the dissolved oxygen from the water. Dissolved oxygen is the waste product of photosynthesis. Dissolved oxygen affects organisms because some organisms cannot tolerate too low or too high dissolved oxygen levels which lowers the diversity of organisms in the water. (Riverwatch, 2013) Invertebrates can also measure the water quality based on how much pollution is in the water. There are 3 types of invertebrate indicators of water quality, based on the population of pollution tolerant, moderately tolerant, and pollution intolerant. This shows how healthy the water is. If pollution tolerant invertebrates are living in the water then that infers that the water quality is not good because it has a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. How Bilingualism Has Impacted The United States Modern... Rebeca Patino Formal Essay #4 OAKS D America vs Language In the article, Speak Spanish, You re in America!: El Huracan over language and Culture, Juan Gonzalez, a journalist and broadcaster of the daily show, Democracy Now, describes how bilingualism has impacted the United States modern education system. He describes an amendment that would constitute English as the official in the United States, which he believes can be a potential threat to the educational system. Gonzalez suggests that instead of having an amendment that constitutes English as the national language, American schools should implement Spanish to highlight the importance of being bilingualism in the American educational system. A constitutional amendment declaring English as the national language would be damaging to bilingual students because it would limit their capability of communicating in English or their native language, and therefore they have would fall behind in classes and will not succeed in the American educational system. To highlight the importance of bilingualism, even more the educational system should implement a variety of languages. It is beneficial for bilingual students to be taught in both their native language and in English to assimilate with ease into the American educational system. Gonzalez demonstrates how Native Americans, especially the Cherokees implemented English in their curriculum while also teaching them their own language. This form of teaching did not only teach ... • 8. Freud s Psychosexual Stages Of Development Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist born on the sixth of May in 1856. He began his researches of the human mind in 1881, while America and Europe reformed insane asylums and became more fascinated with unnatural psychological states. He first studied nervous diseases examining fish and simultaneously attaining his degree at the University of Vienna, and in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Freud explored the human psyche far more than other neurologists during his time, which earned him the title of the founding father of psychoanalysis. Eventually he explored conflicts from a person s adolescence and how they had an astounding effect on adulthood and created what became known to be his Psychosexual Stages of Development. Freud s psychosexual stages of development is a concept derived from the belief that any problems that occurred through adulthood were the primary result of experiences in early childhood matriculation. He gathered that the human species went through five stages of psychosexual development, and that during each stage of this development, experienced a sense of euphoria in a particular body part more than others. The areas of our bodies that felt this sensation were known as erogenous zones, which were specific parts of the human anatomy such as the mouth, the anus, and the genitals, that contained vigorous pleasure emitting qualities at specific stages of development in accordance with personality development focused on the ... • 9. The Passing Of Time In Virignia Woolf s To The Lighthouse The passage discussed from Virignia Woolf s To The Lighthouse takes place in the chapter Time Passes , and indeed, the passing of time is a central theme. Literary devices such as assonance, imagery and narrative voice are utilised to explore the tension between the brevity of human life and the expansion of natural time. The structure of the passage, especially the final paragraph in parenthesis, highlights the distinction between the finite human life and the infinite course of time. The sounds and textures of words play a great importance within the passage. Compare the harsh b consonance in the alliterative description of how bones bleach and burn far away in Indian sands (Woolf, 139), and the sounds used in descriptions of how the light mellows the enrgy of labour, and smooths the stubble (139). The assonance of the o and s sound elongates the verbs mellows and smooths and creates a soft texture to the words. There is a clear tension between the sharp b consonance and elongated o assonance within these words. The narrative voice utilises the sharper sounds when describing human death, perhaps to connect the quick pop of the b consonance with the quick extinguishing of human life; later in the passage, Mrs Ramsay s death occurs rather suddenly the night before . Through sounds, words come to represent the disparity between the fleeting human life and natural time. Imagery is used to express how time occurs in a series of continuous moments, but for us mortals, this time has an end. Within the image of how so soon a bird sings, a cock crows (139), the birds acts as symbols for the coming morning, for the crowing of a cock is often associated with sunrise and morning. The call of these birds follows the moment darkness dims so soon (139), and with the repetition of how the birds appear so soon after the short space of a single night, the narrative voice creates an image of the continuous cycle of day and night a cycle that is intimately connected to nature. Following this bird imagery, the narrative voice depicts how following the night, a faint green quickens, like a turning leaf, in the hollow of the wave . These images are all connected to a natural world separated from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Osage Tribe has been in North America for thousands of years, but French explorers first discovered them around 1675. It is thought that they are descendants of various cultures of indigenous people. After the 16th century, the tribe migrated west of the Mississippi when wars with the Iroquois tribe over hunting lands occurred. The word Osage is a French variation of the tribe s name, which can roughly be translated as warlike . • 11. Understanding Homeland Security a poor interpretation, information wasn t being shared. This made it almost impossible to connect the dots when investigating suspicious groups or people (Chertoff, 2014). After the attacks on September 11, 2001, there were several changes that had to be made. Although the 9/11 attacks were a case of international terrorism, the new policies that were implemented would cover all forms of terrorism. On November 25, 2002, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was established. In the book Understanding Homeland Security, the author states, although homeland security can certainly be significantly affected by threats originating from international sources (such as al Qaeda), the concept of defending the homeland inside its borders is at the heart of homeland security (Martin, 2017). Since operations of DHS began, it has continuously grown in size. Today, DHS has more than 200,000 employees and is the third largest federal agency. • 12. The White Queen Called It, Living Backwards The White Queen called it living backwards. She was referring, of course, to life on the other side of a looking glass. Indeed, traveling through a looking glass, if it were possible, would be a contortion of space, a reversal of the orderly world in the frontward side of the glass with the disorder found in the backward side. Everything would, like the queen said, be turned around. So if someone in Victorian England squeezed herself through a looking glass, she might find, instead of the classic Victorian ideal of the tranquil home where the husband brought home the bacon and the wife happily cooked it, homes in which strong wives dominated weak, ineffectual husbands and husbands who, instead of coming home each evening to restore themselves within the loving familial bond, escaped that bond by taking long naps and dreaming strange dreams. Indeed, instead of finding homes in which the spaces between marriage partners were narrowed, someone wandering through a looking glass world would find emotional gulfs between partners, gulfs that even the most stringent Victorian ideals could not close. These emotional spaces in Lewis Carroll s Through The Looking Glass and What Alice Found There can be seen through another lens as well. While Alice, the book s heroine, metaphorically grows into adulthood as she moves her way across the fictional chessboard, the author remains static; Carroll watches wistfully as the emotional space between himself and ... Women and minorities have equal citizenship status under the law. Each text employs comedy at Sigmund Freud s tendentious level of jest to challenge personal and social reticence without appearing antagonistic to any specific group. The use of intertexuality condenses the length of the works and lends to the humor of the subject matter by alluding to already familiar people, places, and events in American culture. Without prior knowledge of such entities, most of the texts meaning and wit will be lost. Nevertheless, a complete understanding of such allusions will reveal the juxtaposition of America s modern progression: society has improved in certain aspects, yet has somewhat been demoted in other regards. The long established attraction of migrating to America is derived from its historic reputation as the land of opportunity. The Statue of Liberty symbolizes the ability of the wretched refuse to surpass birth and class distinctions through hard work and economy. Plato agrees that Homer is indeed the educator of Greece, and immediately adds that Homer is the most poetic and first of the tragic poets. Plato is setting himself against what he takes to be the entire outlook in contemporary. Since Homer shaped the popular culture of the times, Plato is setting himself against popular culture as he knew it. Plato has in his sights all of poetry, contending that its influence is pervasive and often harmful, and that its insite about nature and the divine are mistaken. It is not easy to understand what Plato means by poetry, whether it is dangerous because of its form or content or both. These questions are complicated by the fact that Plato was not thinking of poetry as a written text read in silence; he had in mind performances, often experienced in theater. When Socrates and Plato conducted their inquiries, poetry was far more influential than what Plato calls philosophy. Few people today would imagine that there is any interesting relation between poetry and rhetoric. To think of great poets as rhetoricians seems weird, and most rhetoricians do not seem to know the first thing about poetry. I stated at the beginning of our journey to Canterbury that I would pick the tale that is greatest moral teaching and in entertainment value (17). After intently listening to all of your tales, one stood out from the others. Though many of you told stories that were offensive to other pilgrims on the trip or told stories that had little moral significance, I determined that there is one that most fully fulfills the requirements that I have set forth.
