What Is Homeostasis Why Is It So Important
1. What is homeostasis? Why is it so important? Homeostasis is maintaining constant internal conditions regardless of changing external conditions. It is
important because it is the key to survival as without it the body would come to equilibrium with its environment which would result in death. 2. What is the
definition of anatomy? Describe the various methods used to study anatomy. Anatomy is the study of structure and what makes up all the pieces parts of the
human body. The easiest way to study anatomy is observation, dissection is also needed to see structures found below the surface, and there are other means of
studying anatomy such as such as auscultation (listening) and percussion (touching). 3. What is the definition of physiology? Describe how comparative
physiology is used to study physiology. Physiology is the study of function and how various body parts work. Comparative physiology is the study of
organisms closely related to humans in order to gain a better understanding of the human model. 4. Name and describe the various levels of the hierarchy of
complexity of the human body. The levels of hierarchy of complexity are organism, organ system, organ, tissue, cells, organelles, molecules, and atoms. An
organism is composed of organ systems. Organ systems are composed of organs. Organs are composed of tissues. Tissues are composed of cells. Cells are
composed of organelles. Organelles are composed of molecules. Molecules are composed of atoms. 5. Name

A Marvelous Journey of Return in The Kingdom of This World...
A Marvelous Journey of Return
The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpentier is the author s journey of return to his Latin American root. He tries to decipher the myths and complexity of
African identity and achieves it by opening up a new realm of interpretation and representation through literature work.
In the novel, there are elements that can only come as a result of his experience of observing, questioning and criticizing, among which I think several are very
noteworthy. First is Carpentier s reflection of his own identity search in the novel, second is his application of magic realism in the writing that shows the
juxtaposition between fiction and history and lastly, his depiction of a repeating cycle of the Haitian history in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carpentier himself is a very representative individual to illustrate his perspective of being part of the culture but not the entirety of it due to his mixed
background.
Carpentier s literature represents a type of root seeking nature of his race. By exploring the blended culture of Latin America on the Haitian island, Carpentier
does not deny the legacy of some Western civilization, but more importantly, he defines how the native culture coexists with exotic cultures on the island based
on a multiculturalism view. The reality in his novel demonstrates a special relationship between Black people s culture and the French culture. The two
cultures coexist, collide and oppose each other at times and they become a cultural juxtaposition in an atemporal state.
Overall, I think Carpentier really initiated a unique way of returning and finding authentic identity of the people on his homeland in the form of literature
work. His good control of the pace and timing of the travel can be seen as a counterbalance to the disorder of time and space embedded in the story. While
deliberately displacing and altering between historical facts and fictional plots, I think Carpentier takes control of the display of his ideas in a very subtle way.
There exists a parallel relationship between the developments of the story in the novel to the actual history. Instead of creating random

Human Resource Professionals And Human Resources
Organisations of all kinds face changes in their environment, and there is a need for individuals who are capable of turning strategy into reality. This change
agent role is often located within the Human Resource function. There are several reasons for this trend: Human resource professionals have become business
partners over the past decade, demonstrating the value they can add to the business Leaders are looking for where the change process can best be managed
Most business strategies require major changes in people related issues, Human Resource professionals develop and manage the key people systems needed to
support organisational change Organisations that demonstrate a flexible workforce who embrace the change will adapt more efficiently and effectively, and
therefore developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours of the human capital is crucial. Learning and development initiatives are a key tool to encourage
this culture of life long learning, and will ultimately lead to a work force with the ability and desire to grow and adapt with the organisation. The role of HR
has changed from being a mostly administrative role to becoming a force that helps shape company s aims and objectives. Whilst all HR strategies should be
aligned and support each other (horizontal integration), in order to provide the best possible service all HR strategies must be aligned with organisational
strategies (vertical integration) to support the company in achieving the

Bigotry In Hudson
Hudson, the perfect bubble in Northeast Ohio, is seen as serene and flawless; when, in reality, it s a breeding ground of bigotry. This bigotry is not as rampant
and explicit as the protests and riots we see on TV, but it is slowly grown, like a tumor, noticed only by a careful eye. A debate in class taken place a few weeks
ago shows this perfectly. As our class argues about government imposed hiring quotas, it became clear that the majority of the kids in the room wanted an all
white workplace. They didn t speak poorly about minorities, they simply implied that they were lesser than the dominant race in Hudson, caucasian. This upset
me. How can our nation move forward with so much hate fostered from a young age? I had to speak up. Knowing

Fredrick Douglass Narrative Analysis
The Huffington Post states, Black and Latino students are three times more likely to be imprisoned before they are enrolled in a college or university and, The
college degree gap grows wider between whites and African Americans contributing to less Black CEO s, leaders, and businesses . There is no doubt that there
is a direct correlation between knowledge and imprisonment; the higher the learning, the lower the probability of a Black man or woman being put into a penal
institution. Some would say that today s correctional facilities share the characteristics of slavery. In Fredrick Douglass s Narrative, he elaborates that
education is what saved him, ultimately getting him on the pathway to freedom, away from being enslaved. Although in today s ... Show more content on

In Fredrick Douglass s Narrative, he writes about the moment he realized why a slave could be killed for learning to read. Douglass indicates that education
was the pathway to freedom for him. Although this is a message that has been handed down through Black America for decades and generations, Douglass s
Narrative helps us to better understand that education is the one aspect that will finally get the Black community to where it needs to be, which is academically
well off because the African American community suffers severely from being stripped of everything they own. Essentially, a strong foundation of an
education is the one thing that cannot be taken away from them. The author writes, Mr. Auld also said, A nigger should know nothing but to obey his master to
do as he is told to do. Learning would spoil the best nigger in the world... if you teach that nigger how to read, there would be no keeping him. It would be
unfit for him to be a slave (Douglass 6). Douglass s master makes it clear that education and knowledge was sacred and a prize possession that a slave or
African American should know nothing

experimental research on anesthesia help him design a new model for the cause of cholera? 6. Why would evidence of cholera in people living side by side,
differing only in water supply, provide critical evidence? 7. When was the germ theory of disease proposed, and on what basis?

1. Why was it useful to be able to verify the source of the water? 2. Why would a neighborhood served by two different water companies be more useful for
testing Snow s hypothesis than two neighborhoods each with their own source? 3. Epidemiologists often draw causal webs to illustrate the interrelationships
among biological, social, and environmental variables that contribute to disease outbreak. Based on what you have learned so far, what variables should be
included in a causal web for cholera? 4. Snow considered his conclusions about cholera to be inferences from observations whereas the reviewer from the
medical journal considered these to be conjectures. What is the difference between inference and conjecture?

Music and Art in Ancient Greece life Music and Art are important elements in Greek life because both are used in all aspects of religion, from honoring the

Discuss the Role of the Inspector in An Inspector Calls...
Birlings, he controls the development of events: who will speak and when; who may or may not leave; who will or will not see the photograph. He even
Priestley describes the Inspector, when he first appears on stage, in terms of massiveness, solidity and purposefulness (p.11), symbolizing the fact that he is an
unstoppable force within the play. His disconcerting habit of looking hard at the person he addresses before speaking (p.11) gives the impression that he sees
through surface appearances to the real person beneath. It also gives him a thoughtfulness that contrasts with the thoughtlessness of each character s treatment
of the girl.
His role in the play is not simply to confront each character with the truth, but to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Inspector is the catalyst for the events of the play: without him, none of the characters secrets would ever have come into the open, for a variety of
reasons. For Birling could not see that he did anything memorable or wrong in sacking a troublemaker; Sheila thought her rather spiteful jealousy of a pretty
shop assistant was not
anything very terrible at the time (p.24); Gerald needed to conceal his involvement with the girl from a jealous fiancéée; Mrs Birling is too cold ever to have
known what [the girl] was feeling (p.45) and her effect seems lost on her; and Eric had resorted to theft, which he too needed to conceal. Without the Inspector
s purposefulness , each character could not or would not have acknowledged their behavior.
The Inspector s somber appearance and the news he brings are a contrast with the happy and elegant air of celebration on stage. His name, Goole (ghoul?),
gives him a mysterious, disturbing quality a ghoul is a spirit which takes fresh life from corpses, and we could certainly argue that the Inspector s existence is a
result of the girl s death. If he is not a real Inspector, what is he? A clever impostor (but nonetheless human)? The personification of the social conscience the
characters all lack or suppress? A supernatural,

It s Obvious, You Know
Published in 2006, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic is a graphic memoir that brought great success to Alison Bechdel and her work. Fun Home explores the
relationship between Alison and her father, Bruce Bechdel, to shed light on ideas such as gender, coming out with your sexuality, and the complex dynamics
within their family. With further analysis we can see that these key ideas are facilitated through discussions of death, life, and literature provoked by Alison s
efforts to illustrate a truthful portrait of her complicated connection with her father. Alison Bechdel is not only the main author and narrator but also the main
protagonist through out the graphic memoir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alison sees her father s efforts to feminize her as an pitiful effort to embody femininity through his daughter, which leads to what Alison calls a war of cross
purposes that is doomed to perpetual escalation (98). Thus, differences of gender are invoked to illustrate the differences and tensions that exist between Alison
and her father. Putting their differences aside, Alison and her father share many similarities: they are both gay, despite her dads denial, they both have a love
for reading and for art, and they both wish that they were born the opposite sex. Despite these similarities, they never seem to form a strong and intense bond
due to their reserved personalities and their difference in terms of gendered affiliations. Whereas Bruce tends to express traits that can typically be approached
as feminine, Alison admits that she has been a connoisseur of masculinity (95) ever since she was young. Her mom would even attempt to persuade Alison into
growing her hair out long by pulling it back to show her how pretty it would look but Alison could care less, she replies with an impatient, Mommm!

Bringing Light
December 12, 2014
Abstract: This experiment was conducted to determine if the light of a glow stick can be affected by the temperature of water. In this the researcher will try to
find what temperature of water makes a glow stick glow brighter and how long it will stay lit. By proceeding in the experiment, the data collected proved the
hypothesis to be correct. Warmer water caused the glow stick to glow brighter than it had before. On the other hand, the beaker with colder water made the
stick stay lit longer and the room temperature water didn t affect the glow stick as much. Glow sticks are popular products that are used for fun and
entertainment. Everyone knows what they are. But we really don t know what they are. Glow sticks are plastic tubes with a glass vial inside. When ... Show

When the temperature changes so does the results. The blue stick, hot water, stayed lit for 112 minutes (an hour and fifty two minutes). The green stick, which
was room temperature water, stayed lit for 96 minutes (an hour and thirty six minutes). And lastly, the pink stick, in cold water, stayed lit the longest for 122
minutes (two hours and two minutes).
The experiment could have had better results if done with multiple glow sticks. Make sure that the thermometer is correct in the measurement of the water s
temperature. It is important that you get your data correct.
Conclusion
In the experiment, it was discovered that glow sticks will show more light and glow brighter in water with higher temperatures than lower or room
temperature. The experiment proved that the hypothesis was correct in saying that warmer temperatures would make a glow stick glow brighter. Though the
hot water made the glow stick brighter and dim faster, the cold water caused the stick to glow longer, and the room temperature water didn t affect the green

Persuasive Essay On Adult Literacy
Adult literacy lies at the heart of many social crises in the United States, including crime, unemployment, and poverty. According to the Pro Literacy
Organization, it has been estimated that as many as fourteen percent of US adults over the age of sixteen read at or below a fifth grade level. Among those
segments of the US population with lower literacy rates, almost half live in poverty. Over ninety million American adults, are illiterate, which means they do
not possess the skills required to function in today s modern society. Facts such as this regarding literacy illustrate a portrait of the social conditions that exist
in America, the country generally portrayed as the most advanced in the world. Out of 191 million adults in the US, as many as 44 million cannot read a
newspaper or fill out a job application; another 50 million are unable to read or comprehend above the eighth grade level. According to education experts it
requires ninth grade competence to understand the instructions for an antidote on a bottle of corrosive kitchen lye, tenth grade competence to understand the
instructions on a federal income tax return, and twelfth grade competence to read a life insurance form. Unfortunately, more than three fifths of the population
is unable to read with the competence of a fifth grader. Steps to resolve this problem must be taken immediately. Educational improvements need to be made at

Essay On Halloween
Trick or Treat: The Origins of Halloween If Americans were asked to give examples of holidays, they would most likely mention the Fourth of July,
Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. These specific dates, known as calendar customs, are traditional practices that have become incorporated into culture
due to social pressure, common usage, and parental or other authority (Brunvand 406). Each holiday has rich, historical roots, and many of the customs
associated with them have been transmitted over several generations. In addition, most contemporary holiday customs vary dramatically from the date s
original purpose. In the case of Halloween, the commercialization of candy and costumes has contributed to a more family oriented atmosphere compared to
the initial auspicious and superstitious beliefs surrounding this day. Despite its alterations throughout the years due to cultural and religious reasons, Halloween
still remains a prominent influence in popular culture that will continue to thrive for generations to come. Halloween s inception began over two thousand year
ago. This holiday is believed to be synonymous with Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival held on October 31st that signified the onset of winter. Samhain had
religious importance as a pagan festival, and the Celtic people often sacrificed food and animals to appease the gods. The Celts considered this time to be rife

Throughout the modern era of astronomy, a single type of celestial object has puzzled astronomers more than any other. Black holes, whose existence was only
verified in the early 1990 s, have fascinated scientists ever since Einstein first proposed the theoretical concept in the 1930 s. A black hole is an object so tiny,
but also so dense, that it has the power to pull planets, stars, and even light into its core, and ultimately destroy everything in its path. Over the past decade
much has been discovered about these enigmas of space and time; however, many of these recent discoveries lead to more unanswered questions.

On the other end of the spectrum, the death of a super massive star is one of the most brilliant displays of pure power in the universe which includes an
amazing light show which has no equal. A super massive star is exactly what it sounds like, a star so big that it dwarfs our own star in every way. When a super
massive sun begins to run out of out of hydrogen it begins to collapse, but due to its immense gravity and size, the collapse produces such an abrupt implosion
that the last remnants of nuclear fusion remaining push all the mass of the star back out into space (Britt, 2007). This can be compared to someone jumping
onto a trampoline whose elastic has enough elasticity to force one back into the air. This occurrence is known as a supernova explosion, which is the largest
explosion in the known universe. A supernova explosion can even be seen from other galaxies, as scientists have done witnessed from observations using the
Hubble telescope. The star is so big, however, that it only blows its outer atmosphere away, still leaving a massive amount of matter that is doomed to collapse
again, and this time it will be a one way ticket to oblivion. The super massive star finally collapses and its own incredible mass crushes it s internally and now
turns it into a neutron star. An average neutron star is about ten miles in diameter, or the size of Manhattan. Although this

It is a working method. It allows two developers work together on the same piece of code, or work on the same workstation at the same time. When a
developer is editing the code and the other developer can examine the code. The developer who is editing the code called Driver , another developer called
Observer . In fact, two developers often change roles. In pair programming, Observer considers the direction of the work, make suggestions about
improvement, or problems that may arise in the future. This allows the driver to focus their attention on completing the task.
Advantage:
1. Programmer can help each other, learn from each other, meanwhile you may solve problems more easily. This method improves not only work effectively

3d Printer Research Paper
Throughout the known history of the world, humans and technology have progressed side by side. Many believe technology prolongs human challenges and
development in the twenty first century because of the way it distracts people from daily life activities. Though it has been questioned of value, the inclusion of
new technology challenges what humans can do through innovative ideas like the computer and cell phones and other devices such as 3D printers. One way
new technology has challenged human capability was the invention of computers. Before the computer became available, many people had to use other
applications for directions, remembering things, typewriters for typing, and even the land line telephones. Computers were groundbreaking technology ...

Though these are still overall problems, the pros of cell phones outweigh the cons. Cell phones have pushed human and technological capabilities to a new era,
one that is taking the world by storm. More possibilities have opened up to human and technological development with the use of 3D printers. In the early
2010s, 3D printing has taken medical branches, manufacture industries, and universities by storm. During my trip to The University of Chapel Hill, the student
guides mentioned sixty percent of their students do research, many involving a 3D printer located on campus. One boy was given a prosthetic hand from a
student who 3D printed it for research. 3D printers might be used by scientists for organ transplants in the future. Currently, many scientists are using the cells
of a patient to grow new organs to be later used for organ transplant patients. This would not only revolutionize the medical field, but it would dissolve the
donor crisis going on in hospitals. 3D printers are not only being used for research but for fun things as well. A boy at my school uses a 3D printer he made
himself to make and sell fidget spinners to classmates. The use of technology is pushing humanity and machinery to new heights in this modern era. Advances

The Social Democrats was another main group in Russia. The factory workers mainly supported these people because all the existing Governments would be
overthrown and all the wealth would be shared evenly. These people wanted a complete and radical change and wanted to get rid of the Tsar.
====================================================================
In 1905 there was a revolution, which failed, once the war ended things got really bad in Russia because mutinies were happening in the army because they
had no equipment, food and training. Strikes broke out and around 250,000 people went on strike because the peasants didn t get land, the soldiers wanted to
lead there normal lives again and get a job, also Social Revolutionaries wanted a Duma which was a parliament. So the Tsar set up a Duma but didn t really
listen to their suggestions and if somebody said anything wrong then he dismissed the whole parliament. So I don t really think it was real democracy, but this
carried on for a while so the Tsar survived the attempt of a revolution, which failed.
A well respected man called Lenin went to a meeting in London and had strict ideas on a complete change of who controlled

Free Market For Human Organs
Free Market for Human Organs
This paper introduces the consequences of allowing a free market for human organs and how it will help alleviate the shortage for such items, which has arisen
a social problem worldwide, giving entry to black markets. A description of the market for living organ donors and cadaveric organs can be found below along
with the advantages, disadvantages, and ethical issues these markets arise in modern society. This paper also discusses how the shortage of human organs has
created a black market for these items and the consequences it has in our society.
The Demand In the United States, there is an increasing demand for human organs. According to the Department of Health and Human Services,
approximately, 123,366 people are waiting for an organ and daily, 21 people will die waiting for an organ. These numbers increase every day and the gap
between the number of patients waiting for a transplant and the number receiving a transplant has continued to widen. According to research, in 2014, more
than 8,500 deceased donors made possible approximately 24,000 organ transplants. In addition, there were nearly 6,000 transplants from living donors. Nearly
48,000 sight restoring corneal transplants were performed in the U.S. in 2014 (Statistics | Donate Life America, n.d.). However, these figures are not enough in
order to meet current and foreseeable demand. Figure 1 below demonstrates how this gap has continued to increase in the past two decades in the

impossibles to possibles by simply being curious, and inventive. Giving the same opportunities to future inventors that feel the way he felt all those years ago.
Pushing us to new heights, even after he is gone, his works will be with us indefinitely. And for the years that pass with everything learned will be continued,

Self-Acceptance In Return To Hayneville By Gregory Orr
In Return to Hayneville by Gregory Orr is taking measure of self acceptance and accepting the change that happens in a person s life. There several topics
discussed in the text that connect to the author s substance that make it stronger and easier to find what the author is taking measure of. The topics that add to
the substance of the text, are joy. Joy in having been given a full life. Another topic is acceptance of your past and not letting it, cut the hope inside you. Lastly
a willingness to live and change your life. In Return to Hayneville acceptance is one of the few topics that enhance the author s substance. In the text Orr
younger self is trying to accept who he is, he is trying to find his place in the world I longed to be like them, to transcend my confusions and the agonies of my
past and be taken up into some noble simplicity beyond change (2). In this quote, we, see young Orr fight for acceptance; trying to accept who he is. As the
story continues we can see Orr finally accepting who he is and his past. Not letting it haunt him anymore Only, Hayneville wasn t my end. It was a place where
my life could have ended but didn t, and now, almost half a century later, I stand beside that closed down, dilapidated jail, laughing (13). In the end, he let all
the terrible things that had happened to him go. In these quotes we can see Orr using Hampl s method of description, he is very descriptive when he describes
the jail and it makes the sentences

Lose weight with mindful eating
Tackle junk food cravings and an expanding waistline with this practice that has
roots in Buddhism
By: Kasmin Fernandes
A growing body of research suggests that a slower, more thoughtful way of eating
could help with weight problems and maybe steer some people away from
processed food and unhealthy choices. Sonam Kapoor and foodie Hollywood actress
Gwyneth Paltrow swear by it for keeping them slim.
Nutritionists have dubbed this alternative approach #39;mindful eating #39;. It is based on
the Buddhist concept of mindfulness, which involves being fully aware of what is

Both active treatments produced declines in binging and depression,
but the mindfulness based therapy seemed to help people enjoy their food more
and have less sense of struggle about controlling their eating.
Practicing mindfulness meditation weakened chocolate cravings among people with
a self declared sweet tooth, Canadian researchers say. There is now good evidence
that mindfulness strategies generally work at managing food cravings, but we don #39;t
yet know what aspect of mindfulness and what mechanisms are responsible for
these effects. This is what motivated this research, said psychologist Julien Lacaille,
who led the study at McGill University in Quebec.
What is mindful eating?
Allowing yourself to become aware of the positive and nurturing opportunities that
are available through food selection and preparation by respecting your own inner
wisdom.
Using all your senses in choosing to eat food that is both satisfying to you and
nourishing to your body.
Acknowledging responses to food (likes, dislikes or neutral) without judgment.

Politics Of Location
In Adrienne Rich s Notes Towards a Politics of Location (1984), Rich discusses the importance of one s awareness of location and the role it plays in being
able to empathize with people of different ethnicities, social backgrounds, and sexual orientations. The idea of location applies not just to women who part of
the transnational feminist movement in the United States are, is but also for people all over the globe to change their ways of thinking about their location and
how they can relate to others from differing locations by asking specific questions. In Notes Towards a Politics of Location, Rich successfully encourages
readers to reflect on their centeredness and offers solutions to overcome the barriers that centeredness may construct. Rich s essay can also be related to

The reality is that there are overlaps in our circles, the Universe does not just revolve around one location or ethnicity. Our perspective has its limitations, to
combat this, we must raise issues from more than one perspective and location instead of just our own. Rich offers a solution to overcome centeredness by
learning to ask the right questions or at least care enough to ask questions to minority groups instead of using overarching assumptions and broad categories to
fit people into (Notes 15). If we have learned anything in these years of late twentieth century feminism, it s that always blots out what we really need to know:
When, where, and under what conditions had the statement been true (214). Asking these questions will help ease the tension between individual centeredness
and a collective movement, by allowing people to come to the realization that all of us are made up in different kinds of ways and are shaped by different

My Passion For A Graduate Degree
I was born in Inglewood, CA, the son of two immigrant parents. Growing up, I always knew the importance of education; it was ingrained in me by my mother
and father. They grew up in Mexico where they both loved school until their economic hardships forced them to come to the U.S. and work. I am the first
person in my family to go to college and will be the first to pursue a graduate degree. The passion for education that my parents instilled, as well as my cultural
values, drives me to pursue a graduate degree. Early in my undergraduate education I became interested in research and statistics, specifically related to
education. My passion for quantitative methods came after I enrolled in my Psychological Methods class. This inspired me to expand my knowledge of
statistics and go outside the department to enroll in other advanced statistics courses. These classroom experiences along with applied research and evaluation
experience culminated with me wanting to obtain a graduate degree in quantitative methods. I want to be able to give back to my community and I hope to
fulfill this goal by conducting research with underrepresented populations, like the Latino population and believe the University of Maryland would be a great
stepping stone to my goal.
When I first came to college, I had no idea what the experience would be like, but I was excited for this new chapter in my life. I enrolled in courses I thought I
would easily surpass, but a couple of weeks into them, I felt

The Crowd A Study Of The Popular Mind Summary
Gustav Le Bon Charles Marie Gustav Le Bon was a sociologist, psychologist, and physicist who is well known for his writing in each of these fields. Le Bon
was a witness to the actions of the French Commune, in the spring of 1871, what he refers to as the French Convention in his essay The Crowd: A Study of the
Popular Mind. He was greatly influenced in what he saw during this revolutionary uprising and analyzed the actions of crowds and the way they acted
differently than the individuals within them would (Wikipedia, n.d.). The individuals in the crowd lose their conscience personality and adopt the thoughts and
actions of the psychological crowd. Le Bon points out that the size of a psychological crowd could be as small as a half a dozen and as large as a nation, and
the combined influence driving them to act does not have to be negative, but could easily have a positive vibe (Le Bon, 1926). ... Show more content on

collectively began taking their frustrations out on the environment around them. In this case, the crowd did not resort to violence towards each other but
attacked the buildings and symbols of authority in the downtown core. The members of this crowd were doing things and behaved in ways that they would not

Research Paper On Calendar Spread Strategies
Spread trading is a trading strategy which trades on the spread between the two contracts. The contracts can be for the same or different commodity, same or
different contract maturity, and same or different exchanges cite[pp.~1 24]{schap2005complete}. A calendar spread is one of these spread strategies where the
investor utilises the spread between the two contracts with a different delivery date, but the same underlying commodity. The performance of the calendar
spread strategy is compared with the long future contract and spot position strategies. The commodity benchmark index is also introduced which provides the
comparison of the performance of the three strategies against the commodity index.
subsubsection{Calendar Spreads}
A calendar spread or the intra market spread is a portfolio strategy where two future contracts are simultaneously bought and sold for the same asset, but with
different expiration dates cite[pp.~63 77]{butterworth2002inter,kawaller2002calendar,schap2005complete}. Calendar spread strategies are naturally a fully

Imagine the world s major cities completely underwater. Imagine storms so violent that parts of the world became unlivable. Theses are images that one would
expect to find in movie house, but environmental scientists tell us what is now a good setting for science fiction could soon be reality due to global warming.
Environmental scientists warn that humans are not only making the Earth inhabitable for animals and plants, but that if humans continues with their current
practices, the Earth will soon be inhabitable for humans as well. Environmental scientists warn that if the Earth s citizens do not act swiftly and decisively the
damage maybe irreversible for humans.

Republicans do not simply favor economics over the environment. The real problem is that Republicans mistrust environmental science, and nowhere is there a
clearer example of this mistrust than the hearing held by the Subcommittee on environmental regulation in 1995.
SCIENTIFIC COURT
A large component of the Republicans Contract with American was to establish a new paradigm for environmental policy and environmental law. Republicans
believed that the environmental regulation that had happened in the United States lacked sound scientific evidence. They believed that in an effort to pass
environmental regulation Democratic Congressmen, Senators, and the President had suppressed those scientists whose views undermined environmental
science. As Democratic Congressmen George E. Brown stated, they (Republicans) allege that science, particularly environmental science, has been distorted to
serve political purposes. 2 This Republican conviction became apparent when Republicans took over Capitol hill in 1994. No other event more clearly
demonstrates Republicans opinion of environmental science than the 104th Congressional Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment hearings in 1995.
Dana Rohrabacher (R Calif.), chairman of the Subcommittee in Energy and the Environment, in 1995 indicated

Hawkbill Turtle Research Paper
You may have heard that some elephants are going extinct, but did you know that Hawksbill Turtles are critically endangered? Many people are informed
about the more popular species that are going extinct, but what about the ones who actually help us indirectly? The Hawksbill Turtles are becoming extinct like
many sea turtles for many reasons like, people will accidentally get their net caught in the mouth or the body of a Hawksbill Turtle, people all around the world
may also eat their eggs and sell the stunning shell of a full grown turtle. Hawksbill turtles are essential to sustain wildlife all around the world.
The World Wildlife Organization states that, Hawksbills help maintain the health of coral reefs. As they remove prey such as sponges from the reef s surface,
they provide better access for reef fish to feed. These turtles help take care of the reefs the fish we eat live in, without them fish would probably not have
access to nearly as much food and would be eaten by prey on the surface of the reef. Sea life getting stuck in fishing nets has been a problem in the past, so
minimizing that too would be ideal. Hawksbill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

quot;Burning of Los Angeles quot; Essay
In the book The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West, Tod Hackett is an artist who was scouted to come to Hollywood to learn set and costume designing.
After walking around Los Angeles, Tod sees people that are of a different type (West 23). Tod wants to paint these people who he believes came to California
to die. Throughout the book Tod s painting, The Burning of Los Angeles , is coming to life. In the last section of the book West has Tod in a mob scene. Tod is
painting the people he has met. He is painting Faye; Faye ran proudly throwing her knees high. Harry stumbled along behind her, holding unto his beloved
derby hat with both hands (West 201). This quote shows Tod s view of Faye and her relationship with her father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two scenes showed Faye like she was in the painting; she had to be better than everyone and proud to be herself, a selfish woman getting what she
wanted. Tod also painted Claude with his turned as he ran to thumb his nose at his pursuers (West 201). Tod saw Claude this way because of the first
impression of Claude and his friends. Claude had a huge house that was an exact reproduction of a mansion in Mississippi. After meeting some people Tod is
shown a rubber horse in the pool. Tod asks why, the woman responds, To amuse (West 39). Tod could not understand why someone would pay money for a
rubber horse for amusement. Since Tod saw the house, all the money, the servants, and all the guests, he could imagine him feeling to good to be apart of the
group he was painting. Tod also painted Homer who started the mob scene at the theater. He was manipulated by Faye to be a person for her to toy with. Faye
would use Homer for his money, his house, and at times his affection. Tod painted him with his big hands clawing the air in anguish. He did this because
Homer could not express his feeling when he would ask. Tod saw Homer as a person who needed a friend because he was filled with problems. Tod knew
Homer was one of those people who came to Los Angeles to die, but Homer actually came to Los Angeles to get better. I believe he could have painted many
other people he met such as Miguel, Earl, and Abe. I think these people also were important

  • 4. A Marvelous Journey of Return in The Kingdom of This World... A Marvelous Journey of Return The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpentier is the author s journey of return to his Latin American root. He tries to decipher the myths and complexity of African identity and achieves it by opening up a new realm of interpretation and representation through literature work. In the novel, there are elements that can only come as a result of his experience of observing, questioning and criticizing, among which I think several are very noteworthy. First is Carpentier s reflection of his own identity search in the novel, second is his application of magic realism in the writing that shows the juxtaposition between fiction and history and lastly, his depiction of a repeating cycle of the Haitian history in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carpentier himself is a very representative individual to illustrate his perspective of being part of the culture but not the entirety of it due to his mixed background. Carpentier s literature represents a type of root seeking nature of his race. By exploring the blended culture of Latin America on the Haitian island, Carpentier does not deny the legacy of some Western civilization, but more importantly, he defines how the native culture coexists with exotic cultures on the island based on a multiculturalism view. The reality in his novel demonstrates a special relationship between Black people s culture and the French culture. The two cultures coexist, collide and oppose each other at times and they become a cultural juxtaposition in an atemporal state. Overall, I think Carpentier really initiated a unique way of returning and finding authentic identity of the people on his homeland in the form of literature work. His good control of the pace and timing of the travel can be seen as a counterbalance to the disorder of time and space embedded in the story. While deliberately displacing and altering between historical facts and fictional plots, I think Carpentier takes control of the display of his ideas in a very subtle way. There exists a parallel relationship between the developments of the story in the novel to the actual history. Instead of creating random ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Human Resource Professionals And Human Resources Organisations of all kinds face changes in their environment, and there is a need for individuals who are capable of turning strategy into reality. This change agent role is often located within the Human Resource function. There are several reasons for this trend: Human resource professionals have become business partners over the past decade, demonstrating the value they can add to the business Leaders are looking for where the change process can best be managed Most business strategies require major changes in people related issues, Human Resource professionals develop and manage the key people systems needed to support organisational change Organisations that demonstrate a flexible workforce who embrace the change will adapt more efficiently and effectively, and therefore developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours of the human capital is crucial. Learning and development initiatives are a key tool to encourage this culture of life long learning, and will ultimately lead to a work force with the ability and desire to grow and adapt with the organisation. The role of HR has changed from being a mostly administrative role to becoming a force that helps shape company s aims and objectives. Whilst all HR strategies should be aligned and support each other (horizontal integration), in order to provide the best possible service all HR strategies must be aligned with organisational strategies (vertical integration) to support the company in achieving the ... • 6. Bigotry In Hudson Hudson, the perfect bubble in Northeast Ohio, is seen as serene and flawless; when, in reality, it s a breeding ground of bigotry. This bigotry is not as rampant and explicit as the protests and riots we see on TV, but it is slowly grown, like a tumor, noticed only by a careful eye. A debate in class taken place a few weeks ago shows this perfectly. As our class argues about government imposed hiring quotas, it became clear that the majority of the kids in the room wanted an all white workplace. They didn t speak poorly about minorities, they simply implied that they were lesser than the dominant race in Hudson, caucasian. This upset me. There is no doubt that there is a direct correlation between knowledge and imprisonment; the higher the learning, the lower the probability of a Black man or woman being put into a penal institution. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Fredrick Douglass s Narrative, he writes about the moment he realized why a slave could be killed for learning to read. Douglass indicates that education was the pathway to freedom for him. Although this is a message that has been handed down through Black America for decades and generations, Douglass s Narrative helps us to better understand that education is the one aspect that will finally get the Black community to where it needs to be, which is academically well off because the African American community suffers severely from being stripped of everything they own. Essentially, a strong foundation of an education is the one thing that cannot be taken away from them. The author writes, Mr. Auld also said, A nigger should know nothing but to obey his master to do as he is told to do. Learning would spoil the best nigger in the world... if you teach that nigger how to read, there would be no keeping him. It would be unfit for him to be a slave (Douglass 6). He even Priestley describes the Inspector, when he first appears on stage, in terms of massiveness, solidity and purposefulness (p.11), symbolizing the fact that he is an unstoppable force within the play. His disconcerting habit of looking hard at the person he addresses before speaking (p.11) gives the impression that he sees through surface appearances to the real person beneath. The Inspector is the catalyst for the events of the play: without him, none of the characters secrets would ever have come into the open, for a variety of reasons. For Birling could not see that he did anything memorable or wrong in sacking a troublemaker; Sheila thought her rather spiteful jealousy of a pretty shop assistant was not anything very terrible at the time (p.24); Gerald needed to conceal his involvement with the girl from a jealous fiancéée; Mrs Birling is too cold ever to have known what [the girl] was feeling (p.45) and her effect seems lost on her; and Eric had resorted to theft, which he too needed to conceal. Fun Home explores the relationship between Alison and her father, Bruce Bechdel, to shed light on ideas such as gender, coming out with your sexuality, and the complex dynamics within their family. Putting their differences aside, Alison and her father share many similarities: they are both gay, despite her dads denial, they both have a love for reading and for art, and they both wish that they were born the opposite sex. Despite these similarities, they never seem to form a strong and intense bond due to their reserved personalities and their difference in terms of gendered affiliations. By proceeding in the experiment, the data collected proved the hypothesis to be correct. Warmer water caused the glow stick to glow brighter than it had before. Make sure that the thermometer is correct in the measurement of the water s temperature. It is important that you get your data correct. Conclusion In the experiment, it was discovered that glow sticks will show more light and glow brighter in water with higher temperatures than lower or room temperature. The experiment proved that the hypothesis was correct in saying that warmer temperatures would make a glow stick glow brighter. Though the hot water made the glow stick brighter and dim faster, the cold water caused the stick to glow longer, and the room temperature water didn t affect the green glow stick in any significant ... According to the Pro Literacy Organization, it has been estimated that as many as fourteen percent of US adults over the age of sixteen read at or below a fifth grade level. Among those segments of the US population with lower literacy rates, almost half live in poverty. Over ninety million American adults, are illiterate, which means they do not possess the skills required to function in today s modern society. Facts such as this regarding literacy illustrate a portrait of the social conditions that exist in America, the country generally portrayed as the most advanced in the world. Out of 191 million adults in the US, as many as 44 million cannot read a newspaper or fill out a job application; another 50 million are unable to read or comprehend above the eighth grade level. According to education experts it requires ninth grade competence to understand the instructions for an antidote on a bottle of corrosive kitchen lye, tenth grade competence to understand the instructions on a federal income tax return, and twelfth grade competence to read a life insurance form. Unfortunately, more than three fifths of the population is unable to read with the competence of a fifth grader. Steps to resolve this problem must be taken immediately. • 15. Essay On Halloween Trick or Treat: The Origins of Halloween If Americans were asked to give examples of holidays, they would most likely mention the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. These specific dates, known as calendar customs, are traditional practices that have become incorporated into culture due to social pressure, common usage, and parental or other authority (Brunvand 406). Each holiday has rich, historical roots, and many of the customs associated with them have been transmitted over several generations. In addition, most contemporary holiday customs vary dramatically from the date s original purpose. In the case of Halloween, the commercialization of candy and costumes has contributed to a more family oriented atmosphere compared to the initial auspicious and superstitious beliefs surrounding this day. Despite its alterations throughout the years due to cultural and religious reasons, Halloween still remains a prominent influence in popular culture that will continue to thrive for generations to come. Halloween s inception began over two thousand year ago. This holiday is believed to be synonymous with Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival held on October 31st that signified the onset of winter. Samhain had religious importance as a pagan festival, and the Celtic people often sacrificed food and animals to appease the gods. The Celts considered this time to be rife with magic and the prime period for war and sorcery. According to one online source, It was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Black holes, whose existence was only verified in the early 1990 s, have fascinated scientists ever since Einstein first proposed the theoretical concept in the 1930 s. A black hole is an object so tiny, but also so dense, that it has the power to pull planets, stars, and even light into its core, and ultimately destroy everything in its path. Over the past decade much has been discovered about these enigmas of space and time; however, many of these recent discoveries lead to more unanswered questions. On the other end of the spectrum, the death of a super massive star is one of the most brilliant displays of pure power in the universe which includes an amazing light show which has no equal. A super massive star is exactly what it sounds like, a star so big that it dwarfs our own star in every way. When a super massive sun begins to run out of out of hydrogen it begins to collapse, but due to its immense gravity and size, the collapse produces such an abrupt implosion that the last remnants of nuclear fusion remaining push all the mass of the star back out into space (Britt, 2007). This can be compared to someone jumping onto a trampoline whose elastic has enough elasticity to force one back into the air. This occurrence is known as a supernova explosion, which is the largest explosion in the known universe. A supernova explosion can even be seen from other galaxies, as scientists have done witnessed from observations using the Hubble telescope. The star is so big, however, that it only blows its outer atmosphere away, still leaving a massive amount of matter that is doomed to collapse again, and this time it will be a one way ticket to oblivion. The super massive star finally collapses and its own incredible mass crushes it s internally and now turns it into a neutron star.
