Temporary Foreign Worker Program ( Tfwp )
Cundal and Seaman discuss the many ways in which the Temporary Foreign Worker Program
(TFWP) is abused and the effects of this misuse on the workers. Temporary Foreign Workers
(TFW) are working jobs that should be classified as long term positions, not short term. This
incorrect classification affects a worker s salary, healthcare plan, pension, vacation pay, and sick
days. Cundal and Seaman also address the ways in which TFW are more susceptible to employer
abuse than other workers. Temporary Foreign Workers must apply for a Labour Market Opinion
(LMO) before switching employers, which can take up to five months; most workers cannot afford
to live without a source of income for this length of time. This usually compels workers to keep
serious issues private. Many workers are also uninformed about their basic rights, which often
leaves them exposed to mistreatment or abuse by employers. Cundal, an immigration lawyer in
Calgary and Seaman, a human rightsand civil liberties researcher wrote an unbiased and fact
based article using a wide variety of sources including articles, reports, and newsletters. Cundal and
Seaman provided an extensive reference list in addition to footnotes to support their writing. The
authors not only address the human rights issues faced by TFW s, they also identify ways in
which these issues can be resolved. Cundal and Seaman however, fail to provide information on
how many TFW are affected by employer abuse and exploitation. This information is

Gerry Cahill Case Summary
Carnival s president and CEO, Gerry Cahill responded quickly to address the situation, and chose
the direct communication approach. He began with an apology, and acknowledgement of the
passengers challenging situation. In cases where the company was clearly in the wrong, this is
proven to be very effective (Guffey, Loewy). His message then stated that safety is their highest
concern, and concluded with the commitment to get them home as quickly as possible.
Emphasizing safety, undoubtedly supported the company from a litigation standpoint, while
relaying a reason why they may be taking longer than expected. Mr. Cahill won praise from the

Diamond Foods, Inc.
Executive summary
Diamond Foods, Inc. was founded in 1912 and was publicly traded in 2005 as a distributor of
potato chips, snack nuts, popcorn, shell nuts, and culinary nuts. Its brands include: Kettle Brand
Chips, Emerald snack nuts, Pop Secret popcorn, and Diamond of California nuts (Gujarathi, 2015,
p. 47). The company motto was always bigger is better, which was implemented by former CEO
Michael Mendes (Mendes) to meet high performance expectations and keep up with the
competition in the snack industry (Gujarathi, 2015, p. 50). Around late 2009, questionable behavior

After having to restate both its 2010 and 2011 financials in 2012, it was discovered that the
company was operating at a net loss of $86,336,000 and earnings (loss) per share of $3.98.
During 2012 the company s stock price dropped significantly by about 54 percent from $21.50 in
early November to $12.50 in late November (U.S. District Court for the Northern District of
California, 2012, In re Diamond Foods Inc., Securities Litigation: Complaint). On November 14th,
2012 Diamond restated its financial statements which reduced its 2012 first, second, and third
quarter earnings. This also reduced the company s 2011 and 2010 earnings by 57% to $29 million
and 46% to $23 million respectively (Mintz, 2013). Mendes and Neil with the assistance from
Deloitte had such a tight control, making the ability to detect the fraud difficult. This caused the
fraud to be concealed, which led to serious financial implications, and the need to restructure the
company s top management.
Description of the fraud
Several types of fraud occurred at Diamond Foods, Inc. that led to manipulation of their reported
earnings and stock price: improper disclosures in the financial statements, understating costs, and
aggressive earnings management.
Improper disclosures in financial statements

Hinduism Followers
Hinduism is one of the world s oldest religions. Hindus believe in many gods, numbering into the
thousands. They recognize one supreme spirit called Brahman ( the absolute. ) The goal of the
Hindus is to someday join with Brahman. Until that union takes place, believers are in a continuous
process of rebirth called reincarnation. At death, the Hindu s deeds (karma) determine what the
next life will be. Followers work to break this cycle birth, death, and rebirth and gain release. The
Hindu s soul then merges with Brahman in a condition of spiritual perfection (moksha). Hinduism
has many sacred books, the oldest being a series called the Vedas . Traditionally Hindu society
was divided into groups of four classes (or varnas). This was known as the caste system. People
were generally grouped by occupations, as children were born, they became members of their
parents caste and remained there for life. After death a person s karma determine whether he or
she was reborn into a higher caste or move downward to a lower caste. Included in the case system
was the category called untouchables. People in this group were consider impure, shunned by the...

from sin and to make eternal life possible for them. That son died to accomplish that purpose.
Christians believe they can delivered from sin through their belief in Jesus. If they repent of their
sinful way, they will be forgiven; after death, they will be judged and either rewarded or
punished. The sacred book of Christianity is the bible. It consists of two parts: The Old Testament

Negotiation strategies by Date of Submission Negotiation strategies Introduction Dealing with a
stalemate or conflict can at times be very challenging to two or more groups that are in conflict.
Negotiation happens to be one of the most utilised conflict resolution strategies. The success of
the negotiation process would rely on the strategies employed in the process and responses by the
parties in conflict. Lewicki, Hiam and Olander (2007, pp. 24 28) have provided great insights on
negotiation and how to make the process effective. In their article, Selecting a Strategy, the three
submit that If you are proactive about strategic choice, you are much more likely to get what you

Making an allusion of the negotiation process being just like the buying and selling process, the
buyer and the seller would have different roles to play. Haydon argues that the buyer is in a good
position to sell their product in that he or she can make her case right in describing the product.
Whereas the opponent may be given a chance to give their option, they would be limited with
what has already been given by the proactive party. The proactive party would always set the tone
and thereby have greater say in the negotiation, regardless of the equal opportunities given to both
parties (Jun Geol Ouk, 2007, pp. 606 615). Whereas equality of the parties is granted, this may not
play in terms of the discussions on the main tenets of the conflict and possible resolutions. The
intention of parties in the negotiation table is usually to get favourable resolutions based on their
situation or the conflict. Gregorio Billikopf (2001) argues that Interest based (or integrative)
negotiation is built upon the principle of meeting the needs of all the individuals or stakeholders .
However, the needs of all the stakeholders would only be known on the negotiating table and not on
assumptions or general knowledge of the parties involved. This cements the fact that proactive
player in the negotiation to have an added advantage over the .opponent using the no strategy
approach. For the proactive player, the

The Testament Of The Old Testament Essay
1.The Old Testament consisted of a set of the spiritual text of documentations, which were written
by different people at various times to a different audience. Most of the Old Testament contains
short stories of traditional stories and those stories of distinguish ways God established mankind.
These stories are often told to the people in narrative form, which are guidelines often referred to
as laws, songs, genealogies, and list from these authors that composed the Old Testaments. The
pressing of set documentation is essential because it is the framework for the lives of Gods
followers. The term Old Testamentoriginated as a means to express spoken traditions and Gods
creation from that particular era. It is a method of philosophical investigation was designed to
answer the why questions within these spiritual text documentations. These religious
documentations consist of four parts. These four sections include the Old Testaments are the laws,
history, wisdom and prophecy. The laws are a rule of behavior enforced within the community. The
rules are sometimes called Torah. When analyzing these Torah, these rules were located in the first
five spiritual books of the Bible. For example, in the first Torah in Genesis, it explains the
creation, Noah s Flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Joseph s coats of many colors. However, the
laws in Exodus were in regards to the going out. The going out took about 40 plus years, until the
people were lead to the promise land of God.

Western Film Conventions
The western film Shane (1953) was produced by director George Stephens and is based on the
original book Shane (1949) written by Jack Schaefer. The western genre has specific codes and
conventions that make it easy for an audience to recognise, such as; iconography (guns, horses, and
typical cowboy costume), frontier towns, ranchers and homesteaders, gamblers, bandits, vast open
lands and conquering virgin territory. Furthermore, westernfilms often include binary oppositions
such as; the individual versus the community, civilisation versus the wilderness, nature versus
culture, good versus bad etc. The filmShane incorporates all of these aspects well, making it a
recognisable and successful western film.
The opening scene makes quite clear many of the binary oppositions, although focuses primarily
on the individual and civilisation. The first glimpse we get of Shane is a lone cowboy riding
through a wide, empty valley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fences, barriers and their destruction play a key role throughout the film and emphasise the
theme of freedom versus restriction that is present throughout. Again from the opening sequence,
we see the wooden fence surrounding the homestead put there in order to keep trespassers from
invading their land, their livestock from escaping or from desert animals coming in and
destroying their crops and livelihood, the river also provides a further barrier from these things.
Therefore the fence and river act as protection from individuals outside of their family community.
It may also be used to keep the community in; during the film it becomes obvious that little Joey
develops a huge friendship and admiration for Shane, who is not part of the community. This
could suggest that Joey wants to grow up and be like Shane and the fence therefore is to keep Joey
in and a part of the homesteader s

Vygotsky And Piaget Similarities
Vygotsky and Piaget have similarities between their two theories of cognitive development. The
first similarity that I know about their theories is children learn increasingly complex information
and skills as they get older. The second similarity is Emphasis on both nature and nurture Both
recognise the role of heredity and maturation of the brain and body=nature. Piaget recognises how
children meet the demands of their environment. The final similarity is Children s cognitive
abilities develop in a sequence and particular abilities develop at certain stages. Vygotsky and
Piaget have many differences. Vygotsky believed that the child is a social being, and cognitive
development is led by social interactions. Piaget, on the other hand,

Then another Council member would second the movement if they agreed. Following the
movement being seconded a vote would follow to confirm if the movement was confirmed or

Several local business owners stood up throughout the meeting asking for variances in local
laws for construction on their buildings. One requested to not be required to add parking spaces
despite the fact that he was adding square footage to his restaurant. The Dahlonega City laws
determine the number of required parking spaces for a business by square footage. However
what the business owner was adding, an indoor stairway and a landing for the hostess to greet in,
would not affect the number of people that could be seated in the building. The council ultimately
said that he could only put in half the number of required spots. Another business owner stood
and requested a similar variance in the law but was adding office space to the rear of their
building instead of a stairway and landing. Again he wanted to not have to provide extra parking
for the space since it was not going to be used commercially, but because he mentioned a function
that was not stated on the original business plan, the request was tabled.
Following the portion of the meeting where the public could bring things to the table, the Council
continued with its agenda. Multiple departments came and gave reports on what they were doing

Parallelism In The Lottery
With visual imagery, Jackson tricks the audience into believing this is an innocent village;
however, as the story unfolds, the dark nature of these residents becomes apparent. On the day of
the lottery, individuals select a white slip from a tattered box. Ultimately, the resident possessing
the slip marked with a black dot gets stoned to death. No one questions the lottery, and the original
purpose remains a mystery. Some say it is beneficial for the village s harvest. Only when Tessie
Hutchinson discovers she is the winner, does she object to the lottery and argue how the system is
unfair. Her protest fails, as the villagers persist in the brutal stoning. Jackson s story reveals the
dangers of blindly following tradition and the darker aspects of human nature, such as the absolute
cruelty in people s actions. Focusing on recent mass shootings and the parallelisms in attitudes
between Jackson s villagers and Americans reveal how daily life in the United Statesis becoming a
lottery.
Within the context of this story, there is a link between the villager s lottery and mass shootings
today. For the small village, the lottery is a deadly game of chance, in which the unlucky winner is
incapable of escaping his or her fate. Reflecting on recent attacks, the chances of death due to mass
shootings are becoming statistically inevitable. They occur in churches, nightclubs, festivals, and
elementary schools. While the residents in Jackson s story participate in a fatal lottery

functions and what it has done to us, they would be shouting for it to be nullified promptly. It is a
framework that was composed by global brokers for the advantage of worldwide investors, and it
is methodically devastating the American individuals. The Federal Reserve framework is the

On the off chance that the public does not trust this, simply go out in the city and ask general

cash in the framework additionally includes the production of more obligation. At the point when
the U.S. government concludes that it needs to spend another billion dollars that it doesn t have,
it doesn t print up a billion dollars. Or maybe, the U.S. government makes a pack of U.S.
Treasury bonds (obligation) and takes them over to the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve

environmental justice emerged in the 1980 s, but the movement started as early as the 1970 s. Of
course, the want for environmental justice has always been there. All throughout history justice has
been sought after, and environmental justice is just half of it. Politics and the economy are extreme
factors to where and whom environmental injustice effect. Developing countries, such as Egypt, are
extremely high in environmental injustice, due to the extreme poverty. The reasons people create

Places of poverty, such as the Al Kheima district of Cairo, Egypt, are bustling with the growth of
major corporations spewing harmful chemicals throughout the district and infecting many with

where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is in organized
conspiracy to oppress, rob, and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe. This
statement speaks for the justice portion of environmental injustice and is a common thought of all
environmental activists. Knowing the benefits and ailments many have gone further into creating

The Impact of New Materials on Product Deisng in 20th and 21st Centuries
As new materials are developed and processed, design technologists and people working with
industrial materials must think how these new materials will affect the way in which they design
and manufacture products. Design technologists also have to be conscious of how these materials

A wood based material such as chipboard is created by taking wood particles (flakes, chips and
shavings) from all commercial timbers, bonded with synthetic phenolic resin. This type of wood
is also a type of composite. Composite timber products have many advantages over ordinary
timbers such as Oregon. They can utilise smaller dimensions of timber as the raw material, but
can be manufactured to create large dimension composite beams and sheets, etc. Less timber
overall is required to make products which are lighter and stronger than timber. Lower quantities
and smaller sizes of timber means less pressure on native forest timber. Prices of imported timbers
will continue to rise which will continue to make composites a more attractive proposition for
builders and designers. The real disadvantage to manufactured wood based woods is the chemical
fumes that it emits (M.D.F is a banned material in the U.S.A). Due to the resins used into making
the wood once being cut at high speeds the dust can lead to intoxication of chemical fumes. The
other major disadvantage is the non grain finish. Although M.D.F has a smooth finish and for some
products this is ideal, other products are designed for a grain finish. Another material that has made

The Wonderous Words of Charles Dickens Come to Life in the...
Charles Dickens is an infamous writer of wondrously worded and descriptive British Victorian
novels. Not only does he go above and beyond the call of a writer to descriptively transform
worlds around him into literary works of art, but he also has a way in which he is able to hide
different symbolic sentiments and objects that seem to pop up around each and every twist and
turn he gives us. Oliver Twist is no different. Charles Dickenscleverly centered the entire novel on
twists and objects that do just that; such as handkerchiefs, neckties and ropes. The handkerchief is
an ongoing symbol that has different significances that really pull the entire novel together. In
Oliver Twist, the handkerchief takes on its own meaning and symbol of brilliantly tying Oliver s
world that is full of twists and turns itself, all together. We are first introduced to the image or
symbol of the handkerchief when Oliver encounters Faginand his mischievous group of young
thieves. After running away from his apprenticeship that he was treated poorly at, Oliver goes to
the city of London. There, Jack Dawkins also known as the Artful Dodgertook pity on him and
gave him not only food and shelter, but a deal with the devil as well. Dawkins takes Oliver to
Fagin (also known as the Jew ); the leader of a group of thieves, and this is where the
handkerchief makes a first and lasting impression. Dickens writes Oliver to be very observant and

having 500 registered clubs. Southern California is the hub for water polo; the best high school

and USC.) As more California kids are recruited by big name schools, more and more parents are
signing up for water polo. USAWP has its own Olympic Development Program, a national team
funnel consisting of the top youth players from around the country.
As water polo grows, the future should look bright for Team USA. Although looking forward to a
very competitive 2016 Olympics, Team USA has struggled in recent years against the powerful, yet
skillful Serbians, Croatians, Hungarians, Montenegrins, etc. In London 2012, the US finished 8th.
Since then, Team USA has gotten a new coach and has a much younger team. Coach Dejan
Udovicic hails from Serbia and has brought a new edge to this team. Besides Azevedo the US has
only 3 other real Olympic veterans Merrill Moses, Jesse Smith, and John Mann. Most of the
players are still in college with 2 just graduating high school. One of the top young players is Luca

Christian Retirement Beliefs
1. After reading the introduction, my thoughts about my retirement began to flood my mind. I had
never really considered what the retirement ceremony would be like, who would be there or even
who would be the key note speaker. I am half way to my retirement and currently going through a
life struggle that I will only be able overcome with Gods love.
I am hoping this study will bring me new Christian ideas regarding work and life. I need to learn
how to let go of the little things and let God be first in everything I do. My vision after doing this
study is having an understanding of the way God can integrate His divine plan in not only one s
job but their entire life. I need a total change in my life, so I am willing to accept the challenge
and listen to God. Believing in His word and staying committed to my goals are of the utmost
importance. 2. The word success means many different things to people. Being successful from
a world perspective can mean that you have made it to the top, you are wealthy and you have
done everything that you have wanted to do in your life. However, if you look at success from
God s perspective things are very different. In His plan success can mean learning to have a

Urban Myths Of Urban Legends
Imagine the urban legends from your younger years, a reminiscent of your wildest fears. Your
heart rate gradually increases from the thought, feeling it pump out from your chest. Your breathing
staggers and paranoia surrounds you. You re frozen from fear, yet you can t run or fight it off. As
we grow, urban legendsare intended to make us feel specific emotions: as children they instill
fear, as adolescents they re meant more as humorous banter, while as adults, they re forgotten
and replaced with new ones only to be told to a child later one thus far continuing the cycle. In the
urban legends: My Dead Girlfriend , Calls from Beyond , Bed Reckoning , and Carmen Winstead ,
we live in a fast track world where our phones as well as social media sites are main factors in our
lives. These four urban legends are made to scare us into being more cautious with who can easily
access your or a loved one s phone and or social media.
Starting with the urban legend titled, My Dead Girlfriend , a man begins receiving messages from
his girlfriend via Facebook. There s nothing seemingly wrong with getting messages from your
girlfriend, right? The only problem with those messages was that the man s girlfriend had died in
a car accident more than over a year ago. Before this creepy story ended up on Snopes.com it was
posted on Reddit s NoSleep community forum, usually a sharing source for original scary stories.

High Cost Of A College Education Essay
Right now in our society a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather a
necessity. We were practically raised and conditioned to believe that we need a higher education
in order to succeed in life. As opposed to generations of the past, high school students today are
unable to obtain the number of high paying jobs that were once available. In the post War 1 era,
the city of New York provided a free quality collegeeducation to many working class people
(including immigrants) at the time when they were effectively barred from attending most colleges.

obtain the number of high paying jobs that were once available. My response to these statistics is
that people approaching high school graduation should seriously consider trade school,
particularly if they are not at the top of their class. A traditional four year degree is not for
everyone, and trade school offers a pretty compelling career path, especially when considering the
factors associated with a college education outlined above.

Finance of Higher Education in the 21st Century
Running Head: Finance Higher Education 21st Century ABSTRACT 1 Introduction The value of
higher education has never been more imperative than it has become now in 21st century. Purpose
of the study is to establish the relationship between growing educational opportunities and the need
for financial back up. The development in higher education has become a very critical issue of the
era as to the fiscal support. There should be less expenditure and more opportunities available for
the support of higher professional education. The evidence has been incorporated that addresses the
question about finance of higher education in the 21st century , furnishing the hypothesis for
proposing how much important the issue of finance in the development of higher education is in
expanding the educational opportunities, and identifying the future research needs as to this theme
(Dominic J. Brewer, 2001). Methodology Primary data have been collected using the interview
questionnaire. A sample of the students has been interviewed and the results were judgmentally
related to the whole population. Secondary data from already available sources has also been taken
in account. Data so collected has been processed analyzed through non statistical judgment for any
omissions, legibility and consistency. Hypothesis has been formulated that there is significant need
to increase the finance for the higher education to meet the ever increasing challenges of the 21st
century. Maximizing revenues

Comparing Griswold Vs. Connecticut
Griswold vs Connecticut

November 25, 2015
Often times in today s world we take certain luxuries for granted. The right to vote, the right of free
speech, etc. But one of those luxuries that people often don t consider is the right for women to use
birth control. The Supreme Court case that argued for the use of contraceptives was Griswold vs
Connecticut. The court case was argued March 29th 30th 1965, but was not decided until June 7th
1965. The case was on the debate of whether or not the use of contraceptives should be legalized.
Griswold, the Executive and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, was
on the side arguing for the legalization of the use of contraceptives in a marriage. While the
opposing side, the state of Connecticut statute, had forbidden the use of contraceptives since 1879.
The Appellant, Estelle Griswold, had been counseling married couples at the Planned Parenthood
League of Connecticut, located in New Haven. The counseling aimed to give them medical advice
as well as information about different types of contraceptives, such as devices or drugs. Ms.
Griswold would meet with married couples and discuss which form of contraception was the right
fit for the patient. Due to the fact that these actions broke a Connecticut law that criminalized
counseling about birth control, Griswold and one of her colleagues were both found guilty. Nine
days after the Planned

Chicago Race Riots Of 1919
Chicago Race of Riots of 1919 The Chicago Race Riots of 1919 helped to further show how
African Americans are looked as inferior, not just within the citizens of the United States, but the
Congress and criminal justice system. White and black beaches were separated by an invisible
line; the black beach on 25th street and whites on 29th street. The story of Eugene Williams
swimming on the beach worsened after a white police officer, Dan Callahan, refused to intervene
or arrest the group of white men responsible for his death, in turn starting the deadliest racial
violence in Chicago history. The riot lasted a week with protestors full of rage mostly on the
South side with white gangs attacking isolated blacks and blacks attacking isolated whites. In
City of Courts by Michael Willrich he talks about how the social causes of crime, specifically
about the criminal justice system of Chicago. Michael Willrich goes into great detail about
whether crime should be an individual failing or a social failing. He claimed that because of the
social conditions, such as heredity and the environment, it drove individuals to commit crime. This
relates to racially motivated crimes or riots, which was motivated by heightened tensions because
of promise of employment and dignity for blacks, since the black population doubled from 1916
to 1918. Blacks have always talked about joining white controlled unions, and in the face of
violence, black leaders had begun preaching self defense

Social Support Groups Can Benefit People Suffering Diseases
Social support is that human and material support offered to people suffering from various
diseases or various body inabilities. The support could in the form of material things such as
money, food, clothing and shelter. The other support is in the form of offering services such as
washing clothes, cooking, loving and caring about those suffering from deadly diseases or having
health dysfunctions. The social support could be initiated and contributed by one individual, a
group or community at large. The social support groups benefit people suffering various diseases
such as, HIV/AIDs, cancer, Backbone injuries, the blind, the dumb, hearing impaired people and
many more in different manners. (Jeong, 2011) The social support has focused on ensuring a better
life for people with no hope of their tomorrow. Even though there are many setbacks facing the
social support to the outcasts in the community the current available groups have done to their best
in ensuring a better environment for those with several inabilities in the community. From the
various researches about the effectiveness of support groups, it is correct to say that social support
parties are doing great in the society. In other dimensions, social support could be in form guidance

many other mostly social evils affecting our communities today. In this analysis focuses on the role

Compare And Contrast Jacob Riis
Upon earning employment as a reporter in 1873, Jacob Riis intended to expose the deplorable
living conditions within the slums of New York city as well as the police department shelters
that he himself had to stay in. The living conditions in the slums were terrible for the tenants, as
the tenements were dark with poor air quality, overcrowded, unsanitary, and filled with crime and
illnesses. At the time, most of the residents in the slums were immigrants and there were no
sanitary laws to regulate housing conditions. By contrast, Lewis Hine became a photographer for
the National Child Labor Committee in 1908 to advocate for reform and child labor laws. During
the time, society had become industrialized and children were expected to work to support their
families. These child laborers were overworked, not payed well, and did not receive education

When growing up you start to learn what s the important things in life. You learn from your

Morrie tells Mitch not to worry about aging because it s more than the negative that you re going

because of it (Albom 118). When your life have no meaning then you are not satisfied on how

Evaluation Of Single Cylinder Direct Injection Essay
This paper presents exergetic evaluation of single cylinder direct injection, water cooled diesel
engine at varying operating conditions. Normally, first law of thermodynamics has been used to
analyze the engine cycle process. However recent research indicates that the first law of
thermodynamics is inadequate to study the diesel engineperformance. Exergy analysis is used to
determine in detail the amounts of losses in a system and locations where they occur, and the
processes that cause them so the application of exergy analysis for diesel engine allows
determining the sources of irreversibilities and obtaining more accurate information about engine
efficiency. An Exergy based performance analysis is based on the second law of thermodynamics
that overcomes the limitation of an energy based analysis.
Consider the advantages of second law of thermodynamics over first law, this study includes
exergy analysis of single cylinder, 4 stroke, water cooled, on a single cylinder 8.1 kW direct
injection, diesel engine. In this study first and second laws of thermodynamics ae applied to
analyze the quantity and quality of energy in diesel engine cycle. The experimental data were
collected using steady state test condition which enables the accurate measurements of air, fuel,
and cling water flow rates, engine load, and all relevant temperatures. Each experiment was
performed at five different speeds between 1300 rev/min and 2400 rev/min at intervals of 300 rev

Human Pollination On Bees
Are we obligated to protect and secure the future of the bees? Humankind tends to take for
granted where our food comes from and do not think twice about it, let alone the process of
pollination. The manner in which we regard the bees not only has an effect on us but, it also
affects a multitude of species. However, we are able to do our part to lessen our negative impact
on the bees. If educating humankind would alleviate suffering of many species such as bees, we
would then be obligated to save the them. Bees are some of the most feared insects on the planet
but aside from their sting they are quite a complex and beneficial creature. There are over 20,000
species of bees on the planet (Spivak,2013). They are often associated with honey however, they
play a far more important role, they pollinate. Bees are responsible for about 80 percent of
pollination worldwide and a single colony is able to pollinate upwards of 300 million flowers each
day (Greenpeace.org). Although there are ways for human pollination it is often a painstaking and
time consuming process. Studies have also shown that human pollination is not as effective
(Spivak, 2013)). With 90 percent of the worlds nutrition dependent upon bees we need to support
the bees with pollination (Greenpeace.org). If we want to continue enjoying the many foods bees

The Pros And Cons Of Pterosaurs
Neither bats nor birds, pterosaurs were considered reptiles. And although scientists have long
debated where exactly pterosaurs fit on the reptile s family tree, it has been proven time and
again that they were close cousins to dinosaurs but just evolved on a different family line. The
top theory as of now among scientists is that pterosaurs, crocodiles, and dinosaurs are closely
related to each other as a group. In the kingdom of Animalia, these three belong to a group known
as archosaurs. The Prehistoric Flying Reptiles Pterosaurs flourished during the age of dinosaurs,
more than 150 million years ago. The earliest of their kinds are small flying reptiles. Yes, they do

The Argument That Young Pterosaurs Weren t Flightless Other authors of the study add a good
point, opposing that their discovery doesn t necessarily prove that the young pterosaurs were born

California, claimed that the wings are more robust compared to the hind limbs. Furthermore,
Habib said that the structure and the bone share are both integral to tell the strength of the
species. The other researchers suspect that some juvenile, eggs, and adult individuals were
washed away from the nesting site due to the storm in the lake, where later on they were
fossilized. Unwin further said that it is possible that a group of female pterosaurs may have laid
their eggs in the same area, which is the same thing to sea turtles that return to the same ocean or
beaches each year to lay

are not so different (13 Satrapi). This is the closest Satrapi ever comes to coexisting with both
western and eastern culture simultaneously. Most of the time she is constantly divided, as seen
on page 6 panel 1, feeling as though she must pick between modernity and European culture, or
tradition and Iranian culture (6 Satrapi). The problem is that she cannot see her Iranian culture
as compatible with modern science or philosophy, she regards her own culture as a vestige of
history. In Satrapi s early years, both Occident and Orient hold comparable importance in her life
but it is impossible for these two perceived polarities to coexist for long. The equilibrium depicted
in the panel as she is evenly divided between Occident and Orient is only

Chungking Express, a film by Wong Kar wai is filmed in loose, imprecise splashes of motion
and colour. This element along with hand held camera work are used to create an alluring
portrait of Hong Kong in the 1990 s. The film, split into two sections involves two smitten cops
along with two objects of desire (one a big time heroin dealer in trouble with her boss, the other,
a flaky waitress who mistakably gets hold of the keys to her admirer s apartment). The first cop,
223 has broken up with his girlfriend and as a result goes on to purchase a tin of pineapple with
an expiration date of 1ST May each day for a month with the expectation that either his lover will
return to him or their relationship will, like the pineapples, expire... Show more content on

His constant use of reflections and vertical framing helps the audience to interpret the change of the
characters identities. Mirrors make for a visual confusion and could cause the audience to question
whether what they are seeing is reality or simply a reflection. Vertical framing and multiple images
of characters create an aesthetic view of characters identity and through film language visually
portrays them as trapped within the change and confusion of the cities identity as well as their own.
The repeated theme of expiry helps Wong Kar waito emphasise the anxiety of the expected changes
for Hong Kong in the 1990 s. His constant referencing to objects and arrangements expiring is
shown through his choice of props and framing devices. The pineapple that 223 buys is an
example of this theme, as well as the plane ticket that Faye gives to 663 with an expiry date of a
year from that point. This constant reminder of expiration reminds us of the countdown to 1997,
the Handover to China. This fear of change is also reinforced through the element of the future and
the fact that the narrator can see outside of the film and tell the audience that things will change for
Hong Kong and therefore the characters lives also, highlighting the characters anxiety and fear of
the change that they are all expecting however having to learn how to accept it.

The author helps visualize his idea with the story of Jonny Chapman, also known as Jonny
Appleseed . Mr. Appleseed was known for the expansion of apples all across Northern Pennsylvania
to Mid West Ohio by traveling and planting apple seeds all along the Mississippi River because of
the high demand for apples in the early 1800 s. Apples were in such high demand because apples
had such a bitter taste which was good for making hard cider also known as booze which sold out
before the Prohibition Era.
Tulips have been placed with a class of plants that shape foods grown from the ground called
angiosperms, which initially dates approximately 100 million years back. Most plants recreated the
way our forefathers would have done it, through spores that made hereditarily indistinguishable
clones of their folks. Yet, angiosperms hit upon another method for spreading their qualities that
gave them a transformative favorable position. They delivered female cells that remained on the
plant and male cells in dust that could be spread to treat neighboring plants. In the meantime, the
angiosperms made themselves appealing to bugs, flying creatures, and honey bees, which brought
about these animals conveying dust, starting with one plant then onto the next, making an
unfathomable blast of assorted variety. Through some secretive, however exact transaction of
shading, fragrance, and symmetry, these cunning angiosperms advanced to

Theme Of Illness In To Kill A Mockingbird
The Cure for an Invisible Illness The most dangerous illnesses and diseases are the ones that are
essentially invisible to the human eyes, as the symptoms lie just beneath the surface undetected. In
Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird an invisible illness is represented through a physical symbol,
illness and disease. Illness and disease becomes an important theme within the novelto represent
racism, as no one can see if some one is racist, the only hint of its presence are psychological
symptoms. Through this symbol, racism can be represented for what it truly is, a contagious
disease that plagues their small town of Maycomb. The only difference between racism and any
other invisible common disease is how seemingly incurable it is.
The theme of illness and disease is mentioned many times throughout the novel, but it is first
compared to racism by Atticus in chapter nine. As Scout is eavesdropping on a serious
conversation between Atticus and his brother, Jack, in which he says: ... I hope and pray I can
get Jem and Scout through it all without bitterness and most of all without catching Maycomb s
usual disease . The disease Atticus speaks of is racism, he hopes he can get his children through
the events of Tom Robinson s trial without bitterness against the people who will be prejudiced
against Tom Robinson, but most of all without them being influenced by their racist ways of
thinking. After all, racism has been shown to be contagious and itt fits the definition of a disease
perfectly. Just like a regular disease, it is as disorder of structure in a living thing, that is not
simply the direct result of a physical injury, especially one that produces specific signs or
symptoms. The symptoms of racism being mainly prejudice againt someone who appears different,
as many humans fear the unknown.
In order to spread, an illness first needs to infect a host. There are two main hosts of the symbolic
racism, an elderly morphine addict and a rabid dog. Mrs Dubose is a character who has a drug
addiction, specifically to morphine, which is a type of pain killer. Atticus describes the elderly
woman as being brave, which confuses the children as they have a stereotypical definition of
bravery, but

The History of Human Rights in Canada throughout the 20th...
Canada is perceived by other nations as a peace loving and good natured nation that values the
rights of the individual above all else. This commonly held belief is a perception that has only come
around as of late, and upon digging through Canadian history it quickly becomes obvious that this is
not the truth. Canadian history is polluted with numerous events upon which the idea that Canada
is a role model for Human Rightsshows to be false. An extreme example of this disregard for
Human Rights takes place at the beginning of the twentieth century, which is the excessive
prejudice and preconceived notions that were held as truths against immigrants attempting to enter
Canada. Another prime example of these prejudices and improper... Show more content on

The Canadian government perpetuated the stereotype and racism that all Chinese were used to; by
removing their right to vote, even as full citizens they were unable to elect a political party that
embodied their goals. Also in an attempt to strengthen the racist views the Canadian government
segregated Oriental school children from Canadian school children, by only allowing those born in
Canada to attend public school. This act of segregation draws a parallel to black segregation and
truly shows how significant this hate had become. This hate destroyed many lives and set the
acceptance of the Chinese heritage and culture back by decades; which later became important
when we wished to create an alliance with China. In 1907 these racist views erupted into full scale
destruction as over 7000 Canadians pillaged Chinatown ; breaking all the store windows while mass
looting occurred. Even after this horrendous rampage the government continued its views of the
Chinese and passed into legislation a Chinese Immigration Act in 1923. This act prevented all
Chinese from entering the country, including those with family already within Canada. This act is
shown to be significant to both Canadian and Chinese history as it demonstrates that Canada
wished to thin their population of Chinese citizens. It also shows that many, if not all, of Canada
and its citizens, shared these racist views. Overall these racist views continued on throughout the
first half of the twentieth

Sophisticated languages for managing database systems are called fourth generation languages, or
4GLs for short.
The information from a database can be presented in a variety of formats. Most DBMSs include a
report writer program that enables you to output data in the form of a report. Many DBMSs also
include a graphics component that enables you to output information in the form of graphs and
charts.
Migrating from the manual and paper file set up is always an advantage in its own capacity. We
shall highlight the major advantages of using a database or Data Base Management System in an
organisation. Using a database will reduce both data redundancy and inconsistency. For larger or
even smaller organisations like a small time starting estate agency, a database will promote
sharing of data for example when referring to client files. Their rent or sales teams can share the
information in order to be able to assist their clients better. Standards are enforced, through the use
of the data dictionary or catalogue. Another advantage is that privacy and integrity controls are
applicable to groups of users such as passwords and access controls for security. In terms of
privacy, a selection of authourised users can use the database and with reference to integrity, the

Chicano Gangs And The Los Angeles
Chicano gangs have been a prominent part of the Los Angeles community since the early 1900s.
These Chicano gangs consisted of young Mexican Americans, another name used for Chicanos,
which were formed as a way for some youth to identify with something. The behavior of gang
members was a way of adapting to the social and economic living situation that was upon them.
There was a large migration of Chicano immigrants to the Los Angelesarea that resulted in several
changes directly related to the larger and present Chicano presence. The most notable being the
prominent presence of Chicano specific gangs. This is likely due to the fact that many people of
Chicano descent are immigrants who came to America with little to nothing. This resulted in large
groups of Chicanos being located in some of the poorest areas. Such areas became known as barrios
, a Spanish term for neighborhood that became specifically in reference to the poor neighborhoods
with a high Latino population. The people living in them were often working the lowest paid and
hardest jobs needed by those of a higher class in society. It is commonly found that when poverty is
heavy throughout a community, many youth will feel the need to act out in some way, and band
together in their mutual discontent with their surrounding environment and society. In addition,
many youth were also dealing with trying to identify themselves as something and weren t sure if to
identify themselves as latino, chicano, or something

Hip Hop Music In The 1970 s
Hip Hop music is a popular subculture, a piece of music that is focused on rhythmic music along
with rapping, a rhyming and rhythmic speech called chanting. Hip Hop culture was developed as
part of hip hop customs, using four keys style elements: rapping, turntables, graffiti writing, break
dancing, instrumental tracks and beat boxing. Hip Hop musicis commonly referred to as rap music
and includes the practice of the entire subculture.
In the 1970 s, hip hop began in the Bronx, NY. At block and house parties using mixed songs
from two different records were used, also two turntables were used by DJ s playing popular
songs to extend the break of Hip Hop development as sampling knowledge and drum machines

In 1979, The Sugarhill Gang s record release called Rappers Delight was the album being known
as the first hit album in the Hip Hop Industry. Sugarhill Gang s song was considered the first
single to be popularized in the United States and around the world, recorded in one single take; ten
years later a remix was released by Ben Liebrand.
In the 1980 s, hip hop developed many more styles such as Pitbull, Latino Style, Shaggy, Jamaican
style hip hop; yet prior to the 1980 s this type of music was limited to the United States.
Nevertheless, during the 1980 s hip hop began to spread across the United States and England.
In the 1990 s, hip hop began to merge with other music styles around the nation such as Southern
Rap and Atlanta s Hip hop. In the mid 1990 s, hip hop became the best selling music genre and
by late 1999 hip hop was considered the top selling music genre. Hip hop was so popular due to
the well known Dr. Dre and Eminem, who were both successful and important figures in the hip
hop industry. In 2002, Eminem even went on to make a movie about his life called 8 Mile. The
movie was about Eminem s struggling life and how the opportunities of singing hip hop and being

A.Plan of Investigation
After a devastating civil war in Korea in early 1950s, South Korea faced a new, unprecedented phase
in forming a constitutional government with assistance from the United States and the United
Nations. Korea especially experienced several crucial reforms in politics and in society due to
introduction of democracy and diffusion of Western culture. To determine the extent of
contributions by the United States and the United Nations in late 1950s, the investigation will
examine the nature and extent of three major commitments in reconstruction: injection of
democracy into Korean government, reconstruction of politics, and societal reforms for
modernization. Not only scholarly sources from databases, such as EBSCO and CLIO, but also
books were used as references in order to determine the extent of commitments. The Coldest Winter
by Halberstam and Grand Expectations by Patterson were mainly used to advocate American
support, as well as Koreans perspective on modernization.
B.Summary of Evidence
After the cruel civil war, South Korea faced a new phase of history full of new adoptions into both
government and society. Under constant supervision of the U.S. and U.N. of which

The Path of Recovery Is for Everyone
Hardships are terrible but a normal part of everybody s life. No matter what the hardship was or
is, anybody can recover. In the books and movie we have viewed in class, they show issues to
the extreme. When Jeannette escapes the depths of Welch and her parents, her life was smooth
sailing afterwards. When you have a life as traumatizing as hers, It is expected for more
struggles to occur later in life. Not everybody will be as fortunate as her and trot with no
regression. Lily ran away from home with no clue where she was headed, other than a town
written on a picture. Liz had drug addicted parents and no plans on education. She reached a life
altering decision and started going to school again. This lead to her ultimate goal of going to
college, and at one of the most profound ones in the United States. If these three girls can overcome
the intense situations they endured, anybody can. Jeannette was an average girl, brought up in an
environment where moving every few weeks was acceptable. She never had any thing stable in her
life, and basically had to raise herself with the help of her brother and sister. Neither parentwas
loving or caring in any ways. No matter how big a struggle, they always had to act as they were
living life to the fullest. Jeannette states this by saying We were always supposed to pretend our
life was one long and incredibly fun adventure. (Walls 69.) When you take a look at the abyss she
was able to avoid, it should give you hope and motivate

01 08 2015 Scenario 1: Part AFredrick Frobel believed that children learn when they are lively
and free. He also believed that children s education should be based on their interests and their
active involvement. An activity using Frobel s parquet gifts for 3 5 year olds would need to be
simple enough that they would be able to manipulate the pieces involved and complex enough to
challenge their minds. To start our activity I would take thin pieces of wood about 10x10 inches. I
would outline a very simple drawing of different animals on the pieces of wood. The children can

Scenario 3: Letter Formation Drills Letters don t have to be precise and artistic; they should be
fairly constant and readable. They should not float like a balloon or sink below the line and
should be formed from the top and not the bottom. Practice forming letters with letter formation
drills promotes reading and writing for all children. Children with a visual impairment may have
the materials modified. Use brightly colored pens with a black contrasting paper. Enlarge all
workbook pages and lined paper, double lines work well for children with visual impairment. For
children with epilepsy traditional approaches need to be modified. Some student struggle with
motor skills as a result of their epilepsy and they are especially vulnerable to inattention and work
incompletion. Further breaking down the letters into simpler steps has been proven to promote
writing skills in a child with epilepsy. A few easy steps can be taken to ensure the classroom is
suitable for hearing impaired students. When possible, turn off equipment that creates background
noises, such as fans and projectors, when not in use. Eliminating extra noise helps students with
hearing impairments focus on the class lecture and assignments. Remember that hearing aids
amplify every sound, including tapping pencils and air conditioners. Area rugs and heavy curtains
can also eliminate a great deal of extraneous noise. Stephany Armstrong AC1406981 E01 Careers In

  • 2. Temporary Foreign Worker Program ( Tfwp ) Cundal and Seaman discuss the many ways in which the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is abused and the effects of this misuse on the workers. Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) are working jobs that should be classified as long term positions, not short term. This incorrect classification affects a worker s salary, healthcare plan, pension, vacation pay, and sick days. Cundal and Seaman also address the ways in which TFW are more susceptible to employer abuse than other workers. Temporary Foreign Workers must apply for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) before switching employers, which can take up to five months; most workers cannot afford to live without a source of income for this length of time. This usually compels workers to keep serious issues private. Many workers are also uninformed about their basic rights, which often leaves them exposed to mistreatment or abuse by employers. Cundal, an immigration lawyer in Calgary and Seaman, a human rightsand civil liberties researcher wrote an unbiased and fact based article using a wide variety of sources including articles, reports, and newsletters. Cundal and Seaman provided an extensive reference list in addition to footnotes to support their writing. The authors not only address the human rights issues faced by TFW s, they also identify ways in which these issues can be resolved. Cundal and Seaman however, fail to provide information on how many TFW are affected by employer abuse and exploitation. This information is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mr. Chandler Negotiation strategies by Date of Submission Negotiation strategies Introduction Dealing with a stalemate or conflict can at times be very challenging to two or more groups that are in conflict. Negotiation happens to be one of the most utilised conflict resolution strategies. The success of the negotiation process would rely on the strategies employed in the process and responses by the parties in conflict. Lewicki, Hiam and Olander (2007, pp. 24 28) have provided great insights on negotiation and how to make the process effective. In their article, Selecting a Strategy, the three submit that If you are proactive about strategic choice, you are much more likely to get what you want than if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Making an allusion of the negotiation process being just like the buying and selling process, the buyer and the seller would have different roles to play. Haydon argues that the buyer is in a good position to sell their product in that he or she can make her case right in describing the product. Whereas the opponent may be given a chance to give their option, they would be limited with what has already been given by the proactive party. The proactive party would always set the tone and thereby have greater say in the negotiation, regardless of the equal opportunities given to both parties (Jun Geol Ouk, 2007, pp. 606 615). Whereas equality of the parties is granted, this may not play in terms of the discussions on the main tenets of the conflict and possible resolutions. The intention of parties in the negotiation table is usually to get favourable resolutions based on their situation or the conflict. Gregorio Billikopf (2001) argues that Interest based (or integrative) negotiation is built upon the principle of meeting the needs of all the individuals or stakeholders . However, the needs of all the stakeholders would only be known on the negotiating table and not on assumptions or general knowledge of the parties involved. This cements the fact that proactive player in the negotiation to have an added advantage over the .opponent using the no strategy approach. For the proactive player, the ... • 12. Western Film Conventions The western film Shane (1953) was produced by director George Stephens and is based on the original book Shane (1949) written by Jack Schaefer. The western genre has specific codes and conventions that make it easy for an audience to recognise, such as; iconography (guns, horses, and typical cowboy costume), frontier towns, ranchers and homesteaders, gamblers, bandits, vast open lands and conquering virgin territory. Furthermore, westernfilms often include binary oppositions such as; the individual versus the community, civilisation versus the wilderness, nature versus culture, good versus bad etc. The filmShane incorporates all of these aspects well, making it a recognisable and successful western film. Therefore the fence and river act as protection from individuals outside of their family community. The Dahlonega City laws determine the number of required parking spaces for a business by square footage. However what the business owner was adding, an indoor stairway and a landing for the hostess to greet in, would not affect the number of people that could be seated in the building. The council ultimately said that he could only put in half the number of required spots. Another business owner stood and requested a similar variance in the law but was adding office space to the rear of their building instead of a stairway and landing. Parallelism In The Lottery With visual imagery, Jackson tricks the audience into believing this is an innocent village; however, as the story unfolds, the dark nature of these residents becomes apparent. On the day of the lottery, individuals select a white slip from a tattered box. Ultimately, the resident possessing the slip marked with a black dot gets stoned to death. No one questions the lottery, and the original purpose remains a mystery. Some say it is beneficial for the village s harvest. Only when Tessie Hutchinson discovers she is the winner, does she object to the lottery and argue how the system is unfair. Her protest fails, as the villagers persist in the brutal stoning. Jackson s story reveals the dangers of blindly following tradition and the darker aspects of human nature, such as the absolute cruelty in people s actions. Focusing on recent mass shootings and the parallelisms in attitudes between Jackson s villagers and Americans reveal how daily life in the United Statesis becoming a lottery. Within the context of this story, there is a link between the villager s lottery and mass shootings today. A wood based material such as chipboard is created by taking wood particles (flakes, chips and shavings) from all commercial timbers, bonded with synthetic phenolic resin. This type of wood is also a type of composite. Composite timber products have many advantages over ordinary timbers such as Oregon. They can utilise smaller dimensions of timber as the raw material, but can be manufactured to create large dimension composite beams and sheets, etc. Less timber overall is required to make products which are lighter and stronger than timber. Lower quantities and smaller sizes of timber means less pressure on native forest timber. Prices of imported timbers will continue to rise which will continue to make composites a more attractive proposition for builders and designers. The real disadvantage to manufactured wood based woods is the chemical fumes that it emits (M.D.F is a banned material in the U.S.A). Due to the resins used into making the wood once being cut at high speeds the dust can lead to intoxication of chemical fumes. The other major disadvantage is the non grain finish. Not only does he go above and beyond the call of a writer to descriptively transform worlds around him into literary works of art, but he also has a way in which he is able to hide different symbolic sentiments and objects that seem to pop up around each and every twist and turn he gives us. Oliver Twist is no different. Charles Dickenscleverly centered the entire novel on twists and objects that do just that; such as handkerchiefs, neckties and ropes. The handkerchief is an ongoing symbol that has different significances that really pull the entire novel together. Finance of Higher Education in the 21st Century Running Head: Finance Higher Education 21st Century ABSTRACT 1 Introduction The value of higher education has never been more imperative than it has become now in 21st century. Purpose of the study is to establish the relationship between growing educational opportunities and the need for financial back up. The development in higher education has become a very critical issue of the era as to the fiscal support. There should be less expenditure and more opportunities available for the support of higher professional education. The evidence has been incorporated that addresses the question about finance of higher education in the 21st century , furnishing the hypothesis for proposing how much important the issue of finance in the development of higher education is in expanding the educational opportunities, and identifying the future research needs as to this theme (Dominic J. A sample of the students has been interviewed and the results were judgmentally related to the whole population. Secondary data from already available sources has also been taken in account. Data so collected has been processed analyzed through non statistical judgment for any omissions, legibility and consistency. Hypothesis has been formulated that there is significant need to increase the finance for the higher education to meet the ever increasing challenges of the 21st century. Maximizing revenues ... • 35. Evaluation Of Single Cylinder Direct Injection Essay This paper presents exergetic evaluation of single cylinder direct injection, water cooled diesel engine at varying operating conditions. Normally, first law of thermodynamics has been used to analyze the engine cycle process. However recent research indicates that the first law of thermodynamics is inadequate to study the diesel engineperformance. Exergy analysis is used to determine in detail the amounts of losses in a system and locations where they occur, and the processes that cause them so the application of exergy analysis for diesel engine allows determining the sources of irreversibilities and obtaining more accurate information about engine efficiency. An Exergy based performance analysis is based on the second law of thermodynamics that overcomes the limitation of an energy based analysis. Consider the advantages of second law of thermodynamics over first law, this study includes exergy analysis of single cylinder, 4 stroke, water cooled, on a single cylinder 8.1 kW direct injection, diesel engine. Analysis of “the Man Who Was Thursday” The role of the artist was especially important to Chesterton in 1908 because during that time Britain was booming with unemployed anarchist; Chesterton states in his own novel that An artist disregards all governments, abolishes all conventions. The poet delights in disorder only. (Chesterton, Pg. 8) meaning that a true artist lives free of a government; they are free to create as they please without following rules. • 38. Human Pollination On Bees Are we obligated to protect and secure the future of the bees? Humankind tends to take for granted where our food comes from and do not think twice about it, let alone the process of pollination. The manner in which we regard the bees not only has an effect on us but, it also affects a multitude of species. However, we are able to do our part to lessen our negative impact on the bees. If educating humankind would alleviate suffering of many species such as bees, we would then be obligated to save the them. Bees are some of the most feared insects on the planet but aside from their sting they are quite a complex and beneficial creature. There are over 20,000 species of bees on the planet (Spivak,2013). They are often associated with honey however, they play a far more important role, they pollinate. Bees are responsible for about 80 percent of pollination worldwide and a single colony is able to pollinate upwards of 300 million flowers each day (Greenpeace.org). Although there are ways for human pollination it is often a painstaking and time consuming process. Studies have also shown that human pollination is not as effective (Spivak, 2013)). With 90 percent of the worlds nutrition dependent upon bees we need to support the bees with pollination (Greenpeace.org). If we want to continue enjoying the many foods bees provide for us we... And although scientists have long debated where exactly pterosaurs fit on the reptile s family tree, it has been proven time and again that they were close cousins to dinosaurs but just evolved on a different family line. In the kingdom of Animalia, these three belong to a group known as archosaurs. The Prehistoric Flying Reptiles Pterosaurs flourished during the age of dinosaurs, more than 150 million years ago. Furthermore, Habib said that the structure and the bone share are both integral to tell the strength of the species. The other researchers suspect that some juvenile, eggs, and adult individuals were washed away from the nesting site due to the storm in the lake, where later on they were fossilized. • 45. Theme Of Illness In To Kill A Mockingbird The Cure for an Invisible Illness The most dangerous illnesses and diseases are the ones that are essentially invisible to the human eyes, as the symptoms lie just beneath the surface undetected. In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird an invisible illness is represented through a physical symbol, illness and disease. Illness and disease becomes an important theme within the novelto represent racism, as no one can see if some one is racist, the only hint of its presence are psychological symptoms. Through this symbol, racism can be represented for what it truly is, a contagious disease that plagues their small town of Maycomb. The only difference between racism and any other invisible common disease is how seemingly incurable it is. The theme of illness and disease is mentioned many times throughout the novel, but it is first compared to racism by Atticus in chapter nine. As Scout is eavesdropping on a serious conversation between Atticus and his brother, Jack, in which he says: ... I hope and pray I can get Jem and Scout through it all without bitterness and most of all without catching Maycomb s usual disease . The disease Atticus speaks of is racism, he hopes he can get his children through the events of Tom Robinson s trial without bitterness against the people who will be prejudiced against Tom Robinson, but most of all without them being influenced by their racist ways of thinking. After all, racism has been shown to be contagious and itt fits the definition of a disease perfectly. Just like a regular disease, it is as disorder of structure in a living thing, that is not simply the direct result of a physical injury, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms. The symptoms of racism being mainly prejudice againt someone who appears different, as many humans fear the unknown. In order to spread, an illness first needs to infect a host. There are two main hosts of the symbolic racism, an elderly morphine addict and a rabid dog. The Canadian government perpetuated the stereotype and racism that all Chinese were used to; by removing their right to vote, even as full citizens they were unable to elect a political party that embodied their goals. Also in an attempt to strengthen the racist views the Canadian government segregated Oriental school children from Canadian school children, by only allowing those born in Canada to attend public school. This act of segregation draws a parallel to black segregation and truly shows how significant this hate had become. This hate destroyed many lives and set the acceptance of the Chinese heritage and culture back by decades; which later became important when we wished to create an alliance with China. In 1907 these racist views erupted into full scale destruction as over 7000 Canadians pillaged Chinatown ; breaking all the store windows while mass looting occurred. Even after this horrendous rampage the government continued its views of the Chinese and passed into legislation a Chinese Immigration Act in 1923. This act prevented all Chinese from entering the country, including those with family already within Canada. This act is shown to be significant to both Canadian and Chinese history as it demonstrates that Canada wished to thin their population of Chinese citizens. The most notable being the prominent presence of Chicano specific gangs. This is likely due to the fact that many people of Chicano descent are immigrants who came to America with little to nothing.
