Influenza DBQ

AP World History
March 05, 2018
The Influenza (DBQ) In 1918 a new and unknown virus emerged causing the Influenza pandemic to
spread worldwide. It diffused from Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. The pandemic lasted
until 1919 but its effects were very shocking to the population as it was so deadly it killed more than
50 million people and infected about 20% to 40% of the population. In the early 20th century, when
the influenza was barely spreading, many people had a negative feeling, they felt fear, therefore, it led
to many responses. In some cases, people responded with religious measures, as they believed it was a
message from God, therefore, their actions toward the epidemic were guided by their religion. ... Show

In document 3, the British colonial government of Sierra Leone reported on the epidemic of influenza
in Sierra Leone in West Africa, 1918 where he points out that infected people are being neglected. He
wants to inform the government of the capital Freetown, where this is happening, that as the epidemic
spreads people are dying due to not having enough health care and treatment provided by the
government. In most cases because they couldn t find help or because they were abandoned by other
residents. In Rio de Janeiro, a Brazilian newspaper published in 1918 alludes how the public health
agency hasn t done anything concerning the epidemic. He wants to inform both the Brazilians and the
health agency that even though it is obvious that the illness is spreading since there has been much
publicity, the agency is choosing to ignore it and the author is blaming them for not taking the actions
necessary with when all the ships from unknown ports are arriving but there are no sanitary care
measures being done, which can also be a cause of the spread (Doc 6). In document 9, an American
resident of British Samoa published an article in The Evening Post, which is a newspaper in New
Zealand in 1919, where he blames British Samoa government for the spread of influenza. Since the
government did not properly guard the ships like American Samoa did when the

Stephane Hessel
Stephane Hessel, the writer of this article, is trying to tell the young people of today to constitute
change. He utilizes his experience in the National Council of the Resistance to portray the different
ways this organization helped fight Nazism. One of the things he mentioned the council achieved was
the lifting of restrictions on press freedom from 1944 on. His message of not just disagreeing with a
subject but going out, doing something about it and making a difference delivers a strong message. He
s basically telling everyone to not just be a bystander and watch things happen but MAKE them
happen. Additionally, he notes that being indignant about an issue/subject is to be treasured. Treasured
because in this world you can take action against that particular matter and make a change or pave the
way for change. In this sense, I agree with him as well, there are countries in the world where people
cannot change their circumstances and luckily, we are not one of those. As pointed out by the writer

Post hurricane Irma and Maria the island has been left devastated. Buildings that were once new are
now destroyed, small businesses that existed are gone, houses are without roofs, etc. The indignation I
feel is that our president, has not taken action in aiding these American Citizens who are being
affected by the aftermath of these two hurricanes, predominantly Maria. There is only one working
hospital on the island and the streets are still flooded. These floods can eventually be precursors to
diseases and infections (possible and real threats). As a way to help the Puerto Ricans, my parents and
I have donated water, first aid kits etc. so these individuals can get the help/supplies they need. The
fact that it took the president to send the help needed by Puerto Rico nearly a week infuriated people
such as myself. As of right now there is not much I can do other than help by collecting

Ross Lordo
Introduction Questions
1. The solute potential would be 2.48. If the concentration inside the cell is .15 M, then would
diffusion out of the cell and into the solution of .1 M. This is due to water potential and the tendency
for water to move from areas of high water potential to low water potential.
2. The turgor pressure must be equal to the water potential if there is no net diffusion. The cell and
environment have reached equilibrium and the movement of water is equal on both sides.

1. Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its motion. The difference between kinetic

5. Most cells are small because diffusion can take place at a quicker rate. The convolutions allow for
more space to be able to be used in order to get molecules across the membrane. These small cells
allow for materials to quickly be able to reach the cell membrane and get in or out of the cell, without
having to make a long journey from an inside part of the cell.
6. Water will move out of the cell. The high water potential means there is little solute in the cell and
more in the outside environment. In order to balance these concentrations, water moves out of the cell
and creates equilibrium with the environment.
7. If saltwater is applied to a plant, the plant would shrivel up and die. This is a result of the water
moving out of the cells in order to try to balance the concentration of solute compared to inside the
cell. The water movement out of the cell would cause the cell to shrink and the lack of water would
eventually cause the plant to die.
8. A plant can control its turgor pressure through its central vacuole and cell wall. If a great amount of
water is inside the cell, the central vacuole will take in some of the water to take some of the pressure
of the cell wall. The cell wall can also eliminate water from making its way into the cell. The would
cause the cell to keep expanding, but slowly eliminate its excess

Examples Of Opposition In Anthem By Ayn Rand
Opposition in Society The society in which the characters from Anthem by Ayn Rand live in is one of
little to no opposition. The World Council made rules at their own discretion and the citizens followed
them without question. The big question, though, is why. Why did the citizens mindlessly follow the
rules and restrictions of the World Council? The citizens of this futuristic society followed their
leaders because they were suppressed. They were trained to believe that the World Council was
smarter than them, they were lied to about their jobs and the common good, and anyone who thought
differently was punished. These three things are seen in several places throughout the novel,
highlighting how much the citizens in the futuristic society of Anthem were suppressed in order for
the State to remain in power. In the first chapter of the novel, readers see that, at an early age, the
citizens of the society are taught to think nothing of themselves and more of the World Council.

Council of Vocations knows ... where you are needed by your brother men (22). By telling the students
this, the teachers were instilling the lies in them that whatever they were assigned was needed by the
citizens. In doing this, the State kept the majority of citizens from opposing their job since they were
lead to believe that the job they were required to do was vital to the success of the

The People With Disability Will Face Discrimination
We live in a digital world where the physical work becoming lesser and lesser day by day. In the
professional world, if we look at any workplace whether it is industry or business, the people with
disability will face discrimination. Stereotypical thinking is that people with physical disability cannot
do much of work. Even though in this digital and machine world where less physical work required,
though the disabled persons find difficulties. Most questionable thing is that, physically disabled
persons who are entrepreneurs, they run their own business but they initially had faced discrimination
in the professional world even though they have the qualification and every other qualities that proved
that they are completely eligible for the job. The most questionable thing is that even bank which
approved their loans for business, those banks also doubted them as a person. Disabled persons are as
able for employment as any other normal person. They usually face a discrimination for being a
disabled person. The main thing is that the perspective of the person towards them. Some people have
a negative attitude towards disabled persons that they are physically and mentally not strong as a
normal person. Whereas the people who have positive attitude believes that intelligence, work ethics,
and dedication has no relation with a disability. Those attitude difference create ethical questions. The
common question is

Heart disease is known widely all over the world. It is the number one cause of death in the United
States, especially in the state of Oklahoma. Even though America is counted as one of the most
developed countries in the world, it is still facing an issue of finding a cure for these deadly diseases.
However there can be solutions that can be implemented and used. Including raising taxes on
unhealthy food and building sidewalks and tracks. In Oklahoma, the top causes of death are heart

Exercising helps eliminate all the extra fat and waste that surrounds the heart. Also quitting smoking
avails the whole body, especially the heart. Smoking cigarettes causes about 1 in every 5 deaths in the
United States each year. (National Institutes of Health). Tobacco has many chemicals that harm the
organs in the body. It also damages the blood vessels, which increases the risk of atherosclerosis
(Smoking Cardiovascular Disease (Heart Disease)). The carbon dioxide that is coming from the
cigarette binds to the hemoglobin, a substance that is found in red blood cells, preventing the blood
from carrying a full load of oxygen that is needed to sustain the body. Making it harder to breath and
stressing the heart. Smoking also damages the heart vessels, which affects how well the blood flows
around the body making the heart work more. For some people, such as women who use birth control
pills and people who have diabetes, smoking poses an even greater risk to the heart and blood vessels.
Cigarettes have nicotine in them which produce adrenaline, therefore causing the heart to work harder

Examples Of De-Escalation
The Mental Health Commission of Canada stressed the importance on verbal communication and de
escalation strategies and techniques when dealing with PMI (7). As mentioned before, PMI have
feelings that police will mistreat them; therefore, it is the concern of the responding officer to
eradicate these feelings (13). By doing so, they are removing themselves as a perceived threat to the
PMI, therefore also decreasing the likelihood of a violent encounter. There are countless studies
showing the success of verbal de escalation techniques, but it takes a quick thinking, and most
importantly, a trained individual, to successfully implement these (12). Verbal techniques of de
escalation can be implemented by following the LOWLINE model (14). This ... Show more content

Also, getting the PMI to say yes has been an often go to for first responders when dealing with PMI in
crisis. Studies show anger dissipates if you can get the person to agree with you, such as saying things
like You are angry because of XYZ, is this right? creates a situation where the PMI most often
responds with yes (16). In relation to that, another useful verbal de escalation technique is to develop a
feeling of shared interests. Studies show that people are more likely to agree with those who they
share commonalities with, so a mutual interest is an important thing to establish (16). This can involve
asking the PMI do you like dogs? If the PMI responds yes, the officer could say Same here, [PMI s
name]. I have a few pet dogs, their names are Jack and Jill. If the PMI responded no, then officer must
respond accordingly, as adaptability is a key communication skill in situations such as these (15). Not
only is this engaging in conversation which could distract the PMI from their anger, but it also
establishes to the PMI that the officer wants to get to know them, and has genuine interests with him

The stories of Decameron IV, 1 5 and Decameron V, 4 have contrasting endings. The disparities of the
endings are due to the relationship between social classes and family acceptance. These significant
factors led to Decameron IV, 1 5 having a tragic ending. These two stories involved lovers being
separated by family members due to social rankings. In Decameron V, 4 the opposite occurred; the
father accepted the relationship because the family of the individual was distinguished in society.
Decameron IV, 1 consisted of the love story of Ghismunda, a young widow that found a lover, named

The Internal Family Systems Model Developed By Dr. Richard...
Introduction Family Therapy is a diverse field, so I have decided to highlight The Internal Family
Systems Model developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, who began formulating his theory when he was
working as a family systems social worker. Former UW Whitewater professor, Don Norman is
certified IFS therapist. Professor Norman and Dr. Schwartz ran a series of certification courses over
the span of 18 months at UW Whitewater in the early 2000 s. My rational for my interest in this type

techniques from Freud s id, ego, and superego, and expands upon Jung s understanding of the

leader. The overall goal is to achieve harmony and balance inside our internal system. When balance is
achieved we feel competent, self confident, harmonious and are able to respond and listen to feedback.
(www.selfleadership.org) Exiles: These are the parts that have been traumatized, most often during
childhood and will attempt to protect the self from feelings of fear, pain, etc. Managers: They are
responsible for the daily life of an individual and try to remain in control to keep the self from feeling
anything from the exiles. Firefighters: Their job is to react when exhales are activated in an effort to
control and extinguish their feelings. This is accomplished any numbers of way through alcohol or
drug use, gambling, shopping, binge eating. We believe the firefighters are keeping us safe somehow
however they are actuality obscuring our heart within us. Therapeutic Process: Goals, Techniques and
Procedures Internal balance is the overall goal of this therapy. Therapists meet with clients and
examine the parts that make them. Most people have five to fifteen other parts they can clearly
identify. There are no bad parts, with the goal being to accept and love all the parts of us, and freeing
ourselves of our limited beliefs. Once free, the client is no longer triggered, or can at least identify the

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Confucianism
For all the strengths of Confucian attitudes toward nature, there are also weaknesses that must be
recognized. As a governance system, Confucianism s emphasis on hierarchy has served the programs
of political elites, fostering a disconnect between rulers and the ruled. This pattern has contributed to
poor environmental management over time, despite Confucian philosophy emphasizing unity between
humans and the land (Elvin, 2004; Tuan, 1968). Even within a single tradition, Chinese environmental
values are not monolithic. But clearly, Confucian values are insufficient by themselves to ground

Why Business Visionaries Need Fearlessness And Feariness
One of the principle reasons business visionaries need fearlessness and confidence is to guarantee they
use sound judgment. Effectively beginning a business will oblige settling on intense choices. Without
trust in yourself, you will discover choice making a troublesome undertaking. The more sure you are
in yourself, the more certain you are about your thoughts, improving your capacity to make great
decisions.another reason you require fearlessness as a business person is to guarantee you have an
uplifting disposition. When you begin a business, it is not difficult to permit apprehensions and
questions to keep you from accomplishing achievement. People with large amounts of trust in
themselves have an uplifting demeanor, which helps them to push fear and uncertainty away. With an
uplifting mentality, business people can push towards success.any ambitious person will let you know

Airpower And Its Effectiveness Against The Enemy s...
The concept of airpower and its effectiveness against the enemy s fielded military forces is well
documented in a number of literatures. In the history of American military, airpower has been
considered not only as the sharpest military sword but also a highly versatile set of tools used to
effectively promote national strategy. Airpower s effectiveness in support of national strategy has
significantly improved since 1945. The study of airpower exposed certain consistencies which have
affected its effectiveness. The theory and practice of airpower filled the past century with frequently
persuasive victories coupled with a historical documentation packed with arguable failures. It is
important to note that the effectiveness of airpower, as a military operational strategy, has triggered a
debate among proponents and non proponents. Some airpower theorists have debated its effectiveness.
Throughout history, the many claims about airpower s decisiveness to independently win wars or
conflicts have hindered the notional and real application of this instrument of power. This essay
highlights factors which consider the scope of the strengths and limitations of airpower that has been
and will continue to be effective throughout the 21st century.

Powerful Women of The Faerie Queene and Paradise Lost Essay
Two very powerful female figures are presented in Error of The Faerie Queene, and Sin of Paradise

work. Both characters have the same monster qualities, and both posses allegorical names and
qualities.
Error is by far the most disgustingly described of the two monsters. In Book 1, Canto 1, she is the first
obstacle to meet the knight and his party. She represents the consequences of the night s foolhardiness

that the knight is just looking for a fight to impress the fair Una. After he strikes the beast with his

political and moral consequences of gentrification. This topic is indeed mind boggling and complex.
However, there is a need to observe this multi faceted phenomenon in a different angle. Change is the

Biotechnology and genetic engineering involve the cloning of animal cells and organisms, but they
also involve the alteration of an organism in an effort to make it more perfect, whether it is a crop, an
animal, or even a human being. Obviously the cloning of humans or the cloning of human cells is
much different than the cloning of genetically superior livestock or a better quality, higher yielding
food crop, and people throughout the world realize this. The cloning of human beings has become one
of the worst fears in our society today and for that reason many laws have been passed throughout
European countries and North America in an effort to ban human cloning. For most people, it becomes
more of an issue of ethics and moral values ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These experiments were conducted using skin cells from frog embryos and used a method known as
nuclear transplantation, or nuclear transfer. This process utilized a procedure known as enucleation in
which the nucleus of an egg cell is removed and replaced with the nucleus of a parent cell. The new
nucleus in the egg contains the same genetic material as the parent cell, and then, the fertilized egg
becomes an embryo. The nucleus and all genetic material in the egg having been replaced with the
genetic material of the parent cell, would now become an exact replica, or clone of the parent
organism. John Gurdon, a molecular biologist at Oxford University in England, conducted further
research using the method of nuclear transplantation in the 1960 s and 1970 s. In 1966, he was able to
produce adult frogs using nuclei from tadpole intestine cells. Obviously, this proved that any cells,
whether they be skin cells, blood cells, or even cells from an organism s intestinal tract could be used
to create an exact replica of that creature.
In the early 1980s, a much simpler cloning procedure, which is known as artificial twinning, was
developed. In this procedure, the early embryo is split into individual cells or groups of cells, which
happens naturally with twins, triplets, and other multiple births. This obviously allows each new cell
to develop into its own embryo, and then those embryos are

Indian Caste System
The Indian caste system describes the system of social stratification and social restrictions in India in
which social classes are defined by thousands of endogamous hereditary groups, often termed jātis or
castes. Within a jāti, there exist exogamous groups known as gotras, the lineage or clan of an
individual. In a handful of sub castes such as Shakadvipi, endogamy within a gotra is permitted and
alternative mechanisms of restricting endogamy are used (e.g. banning endogamy within a surname).
The Indian caste system involves four castes and outcasted social groups. Although generally
identified with Hinduism, the caste system was also observed among followers of other religions in
the Indian subcontinent, including some groups of Muslims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hart stated that the earliest Tamil texts show the existence of what seems definitely to be caste, but
which antedates the Brahmins and the Hindu orthodoxy . He believes that the origins of the caste
system can be seen in the belief system that developed with the agricultural civilization , and was later
profoundly influenced by the Brahmins and the Brahmanical religion . These early Tamil texts also
outline the concept of equality. Saint Valluvar has stated pirapokkum ella uyirkkum , which means all
are equal at birth . Likewise, Saint Auvaiyaar has stated that there are only two castes in the world:
those who contribute negatively and those who contribute positively. From these statements, it can be
inferred that the caste system is a socio economic class system.

Traditionally, although the political power lay with the Kshatriyas, historians portrayed the Brahmins
as custodians and interpreters of Dharma, who enjoyed much prestige and many advantages.[17]

Colorado First Light Infantry
Colorado First Light Infantry The Colorado First Light Infantry was an anti militia group in the U.S.
that only consisted of three members. Although this homegrown terrorist group was small and short
lived, it served as a precursor to another larger organization that would be formed. The Colorado First
Light Infantry was founded by Ronald David Cole after the events of the Waco siege in Texas in 1993.
Cole was at the time a member of the Branch Davidians and ended up writing a pro Branch Davidians
book Sinister Twilight, where he declared that his task was to complete the mission David Koresh
failed to fulfill. In 1994, he met with the notorious domestic terrorist Timothy McVeigh prior to the

All three men trained themselves on weapon use and explosives. The warrant that led to their arrest
was actually obtained greatly in part to the testimony of an ex Marine Daniel McNasby. McNasby had
casually been invited to go shooting with the three when Cole had told him of his militia group and
many of their goals. They wanted McNasby to join to aid them in military tactics and complete their
firing squad. The ex Marine eventually trained with these men five or six more times throughout the
following months and came to find out that Cole had contact with several terrorist groups. Cole told
McNasby that he was trying to keep in constant touch with other terrorist groups throughout the world
and was trying to organize all anti government groups against their common enemy (43). This was the
foundation for the forming of the North American Liberation Army. The NALA was Cole s attempt to
unite groups from around the world whom he says are fighting oppression from their government.
Cole wanted the NALA to act as a link to these groups in the hope that a free exchange of ideas will
help them unify and support each other. McNasby did not associate himself with Cole s militia groups,
but only met with the three men as a sort of shooting club. Thanks to McNasby s efforts, the home of
Cole, Kennett, and Terry was raided and each man arrested.

UNC Chapel Hill or Wake Forest University
UNC Chapel Hill or Wake Forest University I would like to get a teaching degree from a university.
The two universities that I really love are UNC Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University. When
comparing UNC Chapel Hill to Wake Forest I find they are both similar, yet different. Looking at cost
of tuition, the number of students, graduation rate, location, admission rate, room and board, financial
aid, and flexibility for both universities it will help me decide which college I would most likely
attend. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to attend UNC Chapel Hill. The only
problem with going to a big university is the money and maintaining a certain grade point average.

private university makes Wake Forest more expensive than most public universities. According to
Snider, The average total cost of a private college or university is about $40,000 a year, but private
institutions abundant need and merit based aid means that most families pay about half the advertised
price. This could potentially save students thousands of dollars. Tuition is a big part of Wake Forest
with in state and out of state tuition both being around $34,330. According to college stats, there are
6,788 students, 6,633 being full time and the remaining 155 students are part time. Wake Forest has an
89% graduation rate which is 6% higher than Chapel Hill. I also discovered that room and board is
about $11,660 and is also not included with tuition. Once again, if I were to attend Wake Forest I
would have to pay out of pocket for a place to live and food. The admission s rate at Wake Forest is
34%. I think Wake Forest is pretty flexible as well. There are payment plans they can set up with the
students to help each one pay off their loans and other debts they have. While comparing and
contrasting both UNC Chapel Hill and Wake Forest I discovered very helpful information to help me
choose which college may be best for me to attend. Based on what I researched I would prefer

This means that this War on Terror that American has led for more than a decade is a fraud, planned by

Microaggression Essay
Hi classmates,
Here is my respond to the following questions:
1. Describe a time you committed a microaggression: I remember the incident during my stay in
Spain. My friends introduced me to their friends and their families. My reaction to the greeting first
alerted them, and then became the general fun, but I understand that for my part it was exactly a
microaggression. At the moment of greeting, a person leanin towards you and thrice touches your
cheek with his/her cheek, imitating a kiss, and you should greet this way with everyone. My first
reaction I pulled away. The closest friend of my acquaintances perceived my reaction as a personal
dislike.

d) How have you changed?

informal atmosphere and I was glad that I had prepared for this in advance and was ready to respond
to the situation. Regardless of which country I am in, if possible I try to learn as much as possible
about the very small things that really mean a lot. Ordinary greetings with new people, a good
example of what I mean.
2. Describe a time you experienced a microaggression:
Because English is my second language; most microaggressions are associated with this. Oh, you got
an accent, are not you an American? Do you live in this country and do not speak English? Often in
my face people express their attitude to the whole nation, to which I belong.
a) What was the underlying message?
You are not like us. What are you doing here? You are less intelligent. You are from a wild strange
country

Entertainment not only consists of movies, music, and television but also literature. The beat
generation spoke against how materialistic people were, and they just simply spoke up that is why
they were seen as rebels. In the world of literature and art, the Beats stood in opposition to the clean,
almost antiseptic formalism of the early twentieth century Modernist, (The Beat Generation) that is
what the Beat generation stood up for. Where literature had a turning point was in 1956 when Howel
was published by Allen Ginsberg. Censorship as a force for modulating public discourse, in the realm
of literature at least, came to an end (The Beat Generation). With their work we can express ourselves
anyway desired, without anyone coming after us. Although the government had a valid reason to be
worried which was the threat of communism, they believed their work had the ideology of
communism. The beat generation was very open minded, intelligent, and had knowledge that still
impact us today such as environmentalism. The entertainment industry had to go through all of these
changes so that they were able to reach true success. Also Veterans coming back from the war with
new priorities(Overview for Films made in Post War Era) was a major cause to the entertainment
industry, they had to come up with ways to expand their content and come up with new things. They
had to fight for their right of freedom of speech, and although for some it was a long fight they were
able to obtain it. Today we have a variety of music, movies, literature, and tv shows thanks to all those

  • 2. Influenza DBQ Martha Quezada Kimmons AP World History March 05, 2018 The Influenza (DBQ) In 1918 a new and unknown virus emerged causing the Influenza pandemic to spread worldwide. It diffused from Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. The pandemic lasted until 1919 but its effects were very shocking to the population as it was so deadly it killed more than 50 million people and infected about 20% to 40% of the population. In the early 20th century, when the influenza was barely spreading, many people had a negative feeling, they felt fear, therefore, it led to many responses. In some cases, people responded with religious measures, as they believed it was a message from God, therefore, their actions toward the epidemic were guided by their religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In document 3, the British colonial government of Sierra Leone reported on the epidemic of influenza in Sierra Leone in West Africa, 1918 where he points out that infected people are being neglected. He wants to inform the government of the capital Freetown, where this is happening, that as the epidemic spreads people are dying due to not having enough health care and treatment provided by the government. In most cases because they couldn t find help or because they were abandoned by other residents. In Rio de Janeiro, a Brazilian newspaper published in 1918 alludes how the public health agency hasn t done anything concerning the epidemic. He wants to inform both the Brazilians and the health agency that even though it is obvious that the illness is spreading since there has been much publicity, the agency is choosing to ignore it and the author is blaming them for not taking the actions necessary with when all the ships from unknown ports are arriving but there are no sanitary care measures being done, which can also be a cause of the spread (Doc 6). In document 9, an American resident of British Samoa published an article in The Evening Post, which is a newspaper in New Zealand in 1919, where he blames British Samoa government for the spread of influenza. Since the government did not properly guard the ships like American Samoa did when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Stephane Hessel Stephane Hessel, the writer of this article, is trying to tell the young people of today to constitute change. He utilizes his experience in the National Council of the Resistance to portray the different ways this organization helped fight Nazism. One of the things he mentioned the council achieved was the lifting of restrictions on press freedom from 1944 on. His message of not just disagreeing with a subject but going out, doing something about it and making a difference delivers a strong message. He s basically telling everyone to not just be a bystander and watch things happen but MAKE them happen. Additionally, he notes that being indignant about an issue/subject is to be treasured. Treasured because in this world you can take action against that particular matter and make a change or pave the way for change. In this sense, I agree with him as well, there are countries in the world where people cannot change their circumstances and luckily, we are not one of those. As pointed out by the writer leaders such as Hitler, ruled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Post hurricane Irma and Maria the island has been left devastated. Buildings that were once new are now destroyed, small businesses that existed are gone, houses are without roofs, etc. The indignation I feel is that our president, has not taken action in aiding these American Citizens who are being affected by the aftermath of these two hurricanes, predominantly Maria. There is only one working hospital on the island and the streets are still flooded. These floods can eventually be precursors to diseases and infections (possible and real threats). As a way to help the Puerto Ricans, my parents and I have donated water, first aid kits etc. so these individuals can get the help/supplies they need. The fact that it took the president to send the help needed by Puerto Rico nearly a week infuriated people such as myself. As of right now there is not much I can do other than help by collecting ... If the concentration inside the cell is .15 M, then would diffusion out of the cell and into the solution of .1 M. This is due to water potential and the tendency for water to move from areas of high water potential to low water potential. 2. The turgor pressure must be equal to the water potential if there is no net diffusion. The cell and environment have reached equilibrium and the movement of water is equal on both sides. Getting Started 1. Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its motion. The difference between kinetic energy and potential energy is the kinetic energy is the energy of an object that is already in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5. Most cells are small because diffusion can take place at a quicker rate. The convolutions allow for more space to be able to be used in order to get molecules across the membrane. These small cells allow for materials to quickly be able to reach the cell membrane and get in or out of the cell, without having to make a long journey from an inside part of the cell. 6. Water will move out of the cell. The high water potential means there is little solute in the cell and more in the outside environment. In order to balance these concentrations, water moves out of the cell and creates equilibrium with the environment. 7. If saltwater is applied to a plant, the plant would shrivel up and die. This is a result of the water moving out of the cells in order to try to balance the concentration of solute compared to inside the cell. The water movement out of the cell would cause the cell to shrink and the lack of water would eventually cause the plant to die. 8. A plant can control its turgor pressure through its central vacuole and cell wall. If a great amount of water is inside the cell, the central vacuole will take in some of the water to take some of the pressure of the cell wall. The cell wall can also eliminate water from making its way into the cell. The would cause the cell to keep expanding, but slowly eliminate its excess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Examples Of Opposition In Anthem By Ayn Rand Opposition in Society The society in which the characters from Anthem by Ayn Rand live in is one of little to no opposition. The World Council made rules at their own discretion and the citizens followed them without question. The big question, though, is why. Why did the citizens mindlessly follow the rules and restrictions of the World Council? The citizens of this futuristic society followed their leaders because they were suppressed. They were trained to believe that the World Council was smarter than them, they were lied to about their jobs and the common good, and anyone who thought differently was punished. These three things are seen in several places throughout the novel, highlighting how much the citizens in the futuristic society of Anthem were suppressed in order for the State to remain in power. In the first chapter of the novel, readers see that, at an early age, the citizens of the society are taught to think nothing of themselves and more of the World Council. By telling the students this, the teachers were instilling the lies in them that whatever they were assigned was needed by the citizens. In the professional world, if we look at any workplace whether it is industry or business, the people with disability will face discrimination. Stereotypical thinking is that people with physical disability cannot do much of work. Even though in this digital and machine world where less physical work required, though the disabled persons find difficulties. Most questionable thing is that, physically disabled persons who are entrepreneurs, they run their own business but they initially had faced discrimination in the professional world even though they have the qualification and every other qualities that proved that they are completely eligible for the job. The most questionable thing is that even bank which approved their loans for business, those banks also doubted them as a person. Disabled persons are as able for employment as any other normal person. They usually face a discrimination for being a disabled person. The main thing is that the perspective of the person towards them. Some people have a negative attitude towards disabled persons that they are physically and mentally not strong as a normal person. Whereas the people who have positive attitude believes that intelligence, work ethics, and dedication has no relation with a disability. Those attitude difference create ethical questions. Exercising helps eliminate all the extra fat and waste that surrounds the heart. Also quitting smoking avails the whole body, especially the heart. Smoking cigarettes causes about 1 in every 5 deaths in the United States each year. (National Institutes of Health). Tobacco has many chemicals that harm the organs in the body. It also damages the blood vessels, which increases the risk of atherosclerosis (Smoking Cardiovascular Disease (Heart Disease)). The carbon dioxide that is coming from the cigarette binds to the hemoglobin, a substance that is found in red blood cells, preventing the blood from carrying a full load of oxygen that is needed to sustain the body. Making it harder to breath and stressing the heart. Smoking also damages the heart vessels, which affects how well the blood flows around the body making the heart work more. • 8. Examples Of De-Escalation The Mental Health Commission of Canada stressed the importance on verbal communication and de escalation strategies and techniques when dealing with PMI (7). As mentioned before, PMI have feelings that police will mistreat them; therefore, it is the concern of the responding officer to eradicate these feelings (13). By doing so, they are removing themselves as a perceived threat to the PMI, therefore also decreasing the likelihood of a violent encounter. There are countless studies showing the success of verbal de escalation techniques, but it takes a quick thinking, and most importantly, a trained individual, to successfully implement these (12). Verbal techniques of de escalation can be implemented by following the LOWLINE model (14). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, getting the PMI to say yes has been an often go to for first responders when dealing with PMI in crisis. Studies show anger dissipates if you can get the person to agree with you, such as saying things like You are angry because of XYZ, is this right? creates a situation where the PMI most often responds with yes (16). In relation to that, another useful verbal de escalation technique is to develop a feeling of shared interests. Studies show that people are more likely to agree with those who they share commonalities with, so a mutual interest is an important thing to establish (16). This can involve asking the PMI do you like dogs? If the PMI responds yes, the officer could say Same here, [PMI s name]. I have a few pet dogs, their names are Jack and Jill. If the PMI responded no, then officer must respond accordingly, as adaptability is a key communication skill in situations such as these (15). Not only is this engaging in conversation which could distract the PMI from their anger, but it also establishes to the PMI that the officer wants to get to know them, and has genuine interests with him ... The disparities of the endings are due to the relationship between social classes and family acceptance. These significant factors led to Decameron IV, 1 5 having a tragic ending. These two stories involved lovers being separated by family members due to social rankings. In Decameron V, 4 the opposite occurred; the father accepted the relationship because the family of the individual was distinguished in society. Introduction Family Therapy is a diverse field, so I have decided to highlight The Internal Family Systems Model developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, who began formulating his theory when he was working as a family systems social worker. Former UW Whitewater professor, Don Norman is certified IFS therapist. Professor Norman and Dr. Schwartz ran a series of certification courses over the span of 18 months at UW Whitewater in the early 2000 s. My rational for my interest in this type of counseling is based on the success my family has had with this theory. These experiments were conducted using skin cells from frog embryos and used a method known as nuclear transplantation, or nuclear transfer. This process utilized a procedure known as enucleation in which the nucleus of an egg cell is removed and replaced with the nucleus of a parent cell. The new nucleus in the egg contains the same genetic material as the parent cell, and then, the fertilized egg becomes an embryo. The nucleus and all genetic material in the egg having been replaced with the genetic material of the parent cell, would now become an exact replica, or clone of the parent organism. John Gurdon, a molecular biologist at Oxford University in England, conducted further research using the method of nuclear transplantation in the 1960 s and 1970 s.
