Émile Durkheim Suicide Summary
Suicide by Émile Durkheim is well known text in sociology that is extensively taught to students
within the field. Suicide was published in 1897, the work is considered cutting edge both for showing
detailed research of suicide that revealed there can and is social causes to suicide. Based on Durkheim
s research he said that suicide can be caused by social factors, not just individual psychological ones.
Durkheim reasoned that being apart of society and integrated into groups in particular is a main factor.
The more involved in society and connected to others the less likely they are to commit suicide. As
this sense of belonging decreases suicide increases. Durkheim s theory is formulated by four types of
suicide (Egoistic, Altruistic, Anomic,

Childhood Development Through Active And Participatory...
Childhood can be explained as an early stage of life in which there is the existence of development
through active and participatory socialization. The stage of childhood only began to exist post
fifteenth and sixteenth century; children used to be considered miniature adults (James, p. 16). Once
children were removed from the adulthood designation, the attitudes of parents also began to change;
they began coddling their children. Prior to the fifteenth century, children were expected to perform
hard labour. As formal education grew in popularity within society, it added an extra component to the
socialization of children. In the book Constructing and Reconstructing Childhood, (2004, p.13)
Shildkrout concludes that in the traditional approach of socialization, child culture is seen as a
rehearsal for adult life and socialization consists of the process through which, by one method or
another, children are made to conform, in cases of successful socializations or become deviants in
cases of failed socialization . This brings forth the ideology that children develop and are socialized on
a universal spectrum that has only successful or deviant outcomes. Although there are advantages of
recognizing the importance of the traditional approach on childhood socialization, it is vital to use the
childhood perspective to gain a complete understanding of the socialization of children. The childhood
perspective on socialization is an approach that is strictly understood from

Have you ever felt so overworked that it may be affecting...
Have you ever felt so overworked that it may be affecting the quality of the outcome? In today s day
and age of our American judicial system, most would agree our judges are overworked. The federal
judges of the court system handle a vast number of court cases each year in the United States. It has
become directionally proportional between the growing populations, the increase in crime, in turn
leading to more cases. There should be a dramatic addition of judges within the federal court system to
lower the workload of the justices. From the signing of the U.S. Constitution under Article III, our
founding fathers put power into our third branch of the government. The federal court system was new
but becoming organized. It was designed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have many articles, journals and comments made and debated about the current crisis of the
federal court caseload. It would be nice to get some help. We are pedaling as fast as we can on an
increasingly rickety bicycle. ̶ Chief Judge Fred Biery To enable the Judiciary to continue serving
litigants efficiently and effectively, the judicial workforce must be expanded. ̶ Judicial Conference
It has been an ongoing struggle for the courts to keep up with the workload. The fact that there has
been talk and discussion about resolutions; this may be the first step to resolving the problem. In the
beginning days of our judicial system, as said before, a judge s caseload seemed to be reasonable. It
was not until the last few decades where the workload skyrocketed. In civil cases alone from the
1940s through the mid 1990s, the caseload increased nearly 580 percent. To emphasize the point,
bankruptcy cases within the same time frame had increased over 1500 percent. There is no question
that the ratio between cases and judges has become overwhelming. During the 1940s the comparisons
between civil and criminal cases filed were parallel. However in the next few decades, civil cases rose
slightly over the criminal, but then another issue began. Even though with fast growing civil filings,
the criminal cases were prone to take much more time throughout

Columbine Essay
In the chilling novel, Columbine, all evidence and actions were described and written by the author;
Dave Cullen. Cullen, as shown in his writing, has exponential fascination on the ideas and the
important details before, during, and after the attack. From beginning to end, Cullen spoke in a
compassionate and professional tone to emphasize the facts and thoughts he had on this horrific
attack. But, throughout the book, Cullen speaks in two different tones and attitudes regarding two
types of people. The victims or the killers. When discussing the victims, he speaks with sympathy and
empathy to show that he truly feels for the victims and their family. Yet when discussing the
monstrous murderers, Eric Harris and Dylan Kelbold, he speaks ... Show more content on

When reading this book, Cullen wants his readers to believe that there are ways to prevent attacks like
this and not every attacks like this are influenced by bullying, harassment, or even violence seen on
television. Preventing these actions can be as easy as looking out for warning signs and reporting
anything suspicious. If schools wanted to take it to the next step, they can arm school officials after
they have been trained and have had a thorough background check. This way, the school will have
powerful way of protection. If teachers and students took these actions to protect their school, they
may prevent some incidents like Columbine. But, even if schools try there hardest to protect their
school, there are still ways one can attack. After reading Columbine, Dave Cullen what s students,
teachers, and any others who would like help to take action to protect all schools. Attacks like
Columbine aren t just school related. They can happen at movie theaters, concerts, shopping malls,
and many other heavily populated areas. Meaning he wants all people in any situation to take action

Recycling Is A Waste Of Money And Time
Abstract
In the not too distant future, recycling will no longer be speculated and studied. It will simply be a fact
of everyday life. In the last 20 years, recycling rates in the United States have risen from 13 percent to
almost 24 percent. More than ever before, recycled waste is being kept out of our county dumps and
incinerators and is being put to many different uses, creating new jobs and companies. Those who don
t agree that recycling has any benefit say that recycling costs more than dumping, falsely claiming that
recycling is a complete waste of money and time. However, recycling today is often less expensive
than dumping or burning, and is quickly becoming the preferred alternative. In this essay, I want to
show how recycling isn t just a business or environmental issue, it is something much larger that we
must embrace and make a priority in our every day living. As stewards of this planet, we are obligated
to make everyone cognizant of how important recycling is to our existence, and pass what we have
learned on to future generations. If we can only begin to think differently about how we handle our
every day waste, we can help ensure a clean environment well into the future.
What is recycling? Recycling is returning materials to their raw material components and using them
again to supplement or replace new materials in the manufacture of new products. Recycling involves
several steps; separating recyclable materials from waste, collecting

Change In James Baldwin s Mr. Chips
In this story Chips is confronted by many obsticles that make him (or try to make him) leave his old
life and embrace a new one. Some of these obsticles prevail in making Chips except the new ways of
life, while some only make him believe that his old ways are supperiour. Although Mr. Chips is stuck
in his ways and doesn t much like change, he understands that life will not always be the same and
that he must learn to adapt to the changing world. When Ralston is trying to change Chips mind and
make him retire, Chips makes a very sage remark to himself when he says, things were changing, as
they were bound too... This shows you that even though Chips was set in his ways he was not all
together irrational about it. Chips understood that chang ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact he thinks quite the opposite. He marries someone who is full of new ideas and believes there
should be change. Chips even says that at first he thought this new type of women would repel him,
but as you can see, he soon fell in love with her and married her. A passage from the book explains
how Chips and Kathies relationship went: And Kathie widened and broadened his views and opinions,
giving him an outlook far beyond the roofs of Brooksfield... She had a cleverer brain than his, and he
could not confuse her ideas even if and when he disagreed with them; he remained, for instance, a
conserative in politics, despite all her radical socialistic talk. But even where he did not except, he
absorbed. His passage shows who Chips really is, he is a man who likes his old ways, but is open
minded to other ideas and is not to stubborn to change his mind if he is wrong about something.
However, when he knows he s right, he still listens to the other.
I m sure Ralston just thought Chips was an old man who despised change and wanted everything to
stay the same. However, Chips was a man who was open minded and willing to make changes if he
thought it would better

Themes In The Invisible Man
The theme I chose for this novel is a young man searching for his identity and unsure about where to
turn to define himself.
The novel the invisible man is the story of a man who is searching for his happenings coming up and
now believes he is invisible to society. The narrator makes clear that he is invisible clearly because
people refuse to see him . The narrator flares back to his own youth, recalling his judgment. He goes
back to say that he lives underground, channeling electricity aside from Monopolated Light and Power
Company by edging his apartment . The narrator describes a vision he had while he was listening to
Louis Armstrong, exploring back into the history of slavery. He his introduced in an intangible voice ,
someone who has lost his specification through the society . The narrator casts back on an earlier
period of the 20th century, encouraging that a newly educated black class felt guilty of a past that was
no flaw of its own. The narrator s grandfather emerged to be in this line hoping to forget the history of
slavery, but on his deathbed reveals that the struggle against white oppression is still continuing . At
first, the narrator cannot grasp that his grandfather was fighting against oppression in his work he was
compliant to white men. But as he progresses as a student the denials of the system become more clear
it is not clear if white men wish for him to advance or not. The narrator s worldview has become more
complex.

The Discovery Of Penicillin During World War II
In 1928, after the careless mistake of forgetting to clean his dishes, Alexander Fleming discovered
penicillin. The scientific community still celebrates his discovery since it was a major breakthrough in
science, especially in the antibiotics and fermentation field. Although his discovery changed various
scientific fields and it opened the doors for research in areas not studied or considered relevant before,
the actual usefulness of penicillin was truly reached until the large scale production of penicillin was
achieved. Before its manufacturing penicillin was considered for researching purposes, but after its
manufacturing during World War II, it truly became helpful for humanity because it could finally start
performing within its antibiotic spectrum. Although it is true that the discovery of penicillin was
attributed to Alexander Fleming, the response of the rest of the scientific community was crucial in
order to achieve the large scale production of penicillin. After the incalculable loss of life during
World War II, the scientific community was urged to unite and work together for the development of
the large scale production of penicillin. Faced with the challenge of producing a sufficient amount of
penicillin in order to start shipping it as an antibiotic, scientists from all over the world started
working on feasible fermentation methods to make their set goal a reality. The first attempt started
with Norman Heatley, an Oxford biochemist.
Heatley believed that

The American Dream, And All Its Splendor (Great Gatsby)...
The 1920s were a decade of rebirth characterised by the founding of the quot;American
Dream quot; the belief that anyone can, and should, achieve material success. The defining writer of
the 1920s was F. Scott Fitzgerald whose most famous novel, The Great Gatsby, has become required
reading for present day high school students. We study Fitzgerald s novel for the same reason we
study Shakespeare. The literature composed by both authors contains themes and morals that continue
to be relevant to modern society. As a result, this novel could have easily been written in modern
times. In his novel, Fitzgerald criticises the American Dream by describing its negative characteristics:

adulterous behaviour of Myrtle and Tom, as well as the carelessness of Daisy and Jordan, illustrates
the corruptibility of the rich.
Both Tom and Daisy are morally corrupt, having little concern for how they treat the people around
them. Daisy and her husband display their indifference to human values in episodes involving sexual
exploitation and careless violence (Fahey 72). The Buchanans are not the only shallow ones, Jordan is
incurably dishonest and her opinion that It takes two to make an accident, (Fitzgerald 63) is an attempt
to justify of her thoughtlessness. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy they smashed up things
and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was
that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made, (Fitzgerald 187) says
Nick. Since the wealthy social class which they belong to is immoral, they can get away with being
corrupt; a corruption that comes from a false sense of security in their money, and the belief they have
achived the american dream.
One of the faults in the American dream is that it equates material wealth and possessions with
happiness. However, not everything, nor everyone, can be bought. Nick,

My Academic Goals And Research Interests
My academic goals and research interests have developed significantly over the course of my
undergraduate studies at Susquehanna University. When I first arrived at Susquehanna I was a biology
major and had dreams of medical school. However, by the end of freshman year, I began to develop an
interest in neuroscience. Declaring a major in neuroscience allowed me to explore the components of
biology I loved, while incorporating psychology and chemistry.
My research interests developed from my exposure to the various areas of neuroscience through my
internships, research experiences and courses. I am currently working on a research project, with the
goal of gaining a more thorough understanding of the genes involved in lateral glial cell differentiation
in the central nervous system of Drosophila. I conduct genetic crosses to obtain the desired genomes
and collect embryos for immunostaining. I examine the expression of a conceptual gene, cg31235,
which is solely expressed in longitudinal glial cells, in the presence of the genes Pointed P1 (PntP1)
and Reversed Polarity (Repo). Subsequently, I will then use immunostaining to examine the
expression of PntP1 and Repo in order to determine whether they regulate the genes involved in the in
the development and function of longitudinal glia. Last fall, I presented my research proposal, which
was followed by a presentation at the Society of Developmental Biology this spring. These
experiences have strengthened my desire to explore

Julius Caesar Rhetorical Analysis
Brutus s Use of Rhetorical Strategies in Julius Caesar In Julius Caesar, Shakespeare employs various
rhetorical strategies such as paradox, direct address, and antithesis to portray Brutus as a reasonable
and caring individual, thus justifying his actions to the audience and fellow conspirators. Brutus
begins conspiring to end Caesar s power, and he concludes that Caesar must bleed, and the
conspirators must kill him boldly, but not wrathfully (2.1.184 185). Brutus desire to avoid killing with
wrath inspires a paradox, which is intended to draw attention and thought to the subject. By
emphasizing the difference between boldness and wrath, he appears more reasonable, compelling the
conspirators to side with him. The paradox promotes the

Beer Is The Alcoholic Beverage Of Choice
Beer is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks and has played a role in human history for roughly 8,000
years. Beer is the alcoholic beverage of choice in North America and many other parts around the
world. It has shaped the culture of human civilization, social interaction and has had a significant
contribution to our economy. In order to get a proper perspective on beer you have to look at three
main periods; ancient history (the development period), modernization of beer and its effects, and
what role beer plays today and where it is going.
Archaeologists have uncovered ancient Babylonian beer recipes engrave on clay tablets as early as
3500 B.C. This early beer was very crude and many people today would probably not consider
drinking it today as it had bread chunks and had the consistency similar to porridge. To drink this
ancient beer people would consume it using straws to filter out sediment and large chunks.
Once Beer started to become more popular and commercialized, the first set of laws regulating it were
set in place by the Babylonians. Paragraph 108 in the Code of Hammurabi stated and if anyone were
caught selling beer for cash instead of corn in order to cheat their customers, they would be drowned
as a punishment. The law also put restrictions on ordinary women from drinking beer with the
exception of priestesses who could consume it freely. These laws date back to 1754 BC and since this
date, beer has been regulated by society.

Last Day Of High School
The last day of my Early College High School (ECHS) 2017 year, was a day I will never forget. On
the last day of school, I got to drive my dad s truck; I remember telling myself I can t wait until I get
my own car, which is something I asked for on my Christmas list to Santa. I went to classes ready to
get my last final over with. The day went by pretty fast after the test, then we went to lunch and then
we had clubs. Since my club was not allowed to go to the gym, I stayed inside with the Medical club.
In the medical club, Cody gave a long presentation on the different Affordable Care Acts (ACA)
proposal, and we got into a debate which got me ready for the break even more.
At the beginning of the break, I was excited to be out of school, I had made so many plans. I made
plans to go to Austin and go to the spray paint park, and travel to Louisiana to celebrate my niece s
first birthday, but all of my plans were ruined.
For the first week of my break, I was sick. I winded up catching both the flu and strep throat, I thought
my Christmas break would be ruined, but it wasn t. During the time that I was sick, I got to plan which
Christmas gifts to get my family members instead of waiting until the last moment, and everyone
winded up loving their gifts. Due to the fact of me being sick, I couldn t go anywhere; which meant no
chores, no being told to get out the house; I actually had time to relax. While relaxing I caught on my

The Influence of Ancient Greek Mythology on Modern Society...
Ancient Greek society fell over 2000 years ago but despite this, its mythology still continues to

There are two ways in which Greek mythology has affected the English language and that is in words
that reference Greek mythology and through phrases that represent the actions of characters in Greek

to predetermined well defined set of performance metrics (job related standards). The results are used

race etc. should never be used, why well because they really have nothing to do with an individual s

one is that not everyone has the same job in my organization, two there are over 80 people that work
in there so remember and playing back all work performance is often a difficult job for the 3

Worldview Essay
Part 1
What is a Worldview?
A worldview is a person s core beliefs. It comprises of one s collection of presuppositions, convictions
and values from which a person tries to understand and make sense out of the world and life
(MacArthur, 2006). Weider and Gutierrez (2011), sums up worldview as 1. A personal philosophy of
life 2. A framework a person brings to decision making 3. A filter or lens which a person uses to
interpret life and the world around them . (p. 51). Essentially, a worldview is a combination of what
worldly individuals believe to be true that ultimately becomes the driving force behind every emotion,
decision and action.

Accordingly, For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain . Daniel 12:2 tells us that the people
sleeping in the earth shall wake not just the saved but the unsaved. There will be a resurrection of the
just and the unjust and both will be judged. Dr. Charles Stanley posit, you can stand on the beach with
a title wave coming at you and say I don t believe it s coming ... that doesn t stop the water . There is
no way to make it without the blood of Jesus.
Part Three
How might/should a biblical worldview influence the way you?
John 17: 15 16 states how we are not of this world, instead, it does acknowledge we are part of this
world. We should not hide and separate ourselves from others. We are the salt of the earth and with
any meal you make you mix salt in with the other ingredients. We have to be known by our love one
for another and speak and treat everyone we meet with the love of Christ.
Treat/interact with the environment and non human creation.
How we treat and interact with the environment and non human creation is supported by the biblical
command to subdue the earth and have dominion over all living things (Genesis 1:28). The opening
verses of Genesis contains several ideas about the natural world and our place in it and clearly tells us
that God is the source of all life and that creation is good. Specifically, Genesis 1:28 and 2:15
commands that human beings preserve and protect the earth and its creatures. Historically, Adam and

College Students Are Responsible For Interpreting And...
College students are responsible for interpreting and remembering a vast amount of information. An
efficient method for remembering things can be associations that are pictures or sounds that aid a
person in remembering information. There also can be certain distractions that can hinder the amount
of information that one can recollect. In a two way ANOVA, we tested the effect that associations and
distractions can have on memory recall. We hypothesized that when an association was present,
participants would be able to record more words than when there not any associations present. We also
hypothesized that when a distraction was present, participants would record less words than when
distractions are not present. We used a between subjects design and with the use of a visual
presentation to we tested college level students on their memory recall. According to the data
collected, we accept the null hypothesis for both of the hypothesis. Since none of the trials presented
to the participants contained a significant difference, associations and distractions that were tested
were not significant enough to be from a different population.
Introduction
The research and experimentation that was done in this study is very important in the efforts to learn
more on the issue of memory recall and what specifically can effect one s performance. This
information can help improve the methods of teaching in schools where students heavily rely on
memorizing things. It is pertinent

Violence In The Outsiders, By S. E. Hinton
The outsiders Essay Theme: violence In the novel The Outsiders, author S.E Hinton hints to the reader
that there are a lot of choices within the book from beginning to the end. From the East side with the
rich, cruel and mean Socs to the West side of town with the Greasers where Ponyboy and the gang
live. The gang must choose to save their friends despite the consequences, they must turn to each other
for help, and they must decide to return home in order to face what they have done and the damage
that has occurred. These choices though hard, help the Greasers learn about themselves and the kind of
people they want to be. Many of the characters in The Outsiders have to make hard decisions during
the chapters of the book; from Johnny fatally stabbing Bob, to Darry and Ponyboy deciding to chase
after Soda, or just deciding what drink to get at the movies all are important. It s not my idea of a good

Essay on Harriet Jacobs
Harriet Jacobs Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl was written to appeal to an audience of free white
women and to involve them in the antislavery struggle. At a more personal level, it was written to
vindicate Harriet Jacobs, both to reveal her history and to account for it in a public setting.
Jacobs s narrative signals several significant departures from the literary and social conventions of the
slave narrative, a genre that enjoyed widespread popularity in the United States during the 1840s and
1850s. Slave narratives written by men characteristically focused on the heroic struggles of
individuals, lone figures struggling against the injustices of the slave system. Issues of family and
community were often subsumed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, her struggle for freedom is inextricable from her desire for freedom for her two children. The
actual and symbolic geography of the slave narrative moved inexorably from the South to the North.
The southern landscape was depicted in terms of imprisonment, confinement, and slavery, while the
North was inevitably identified with freedom. Once the narrator achieved freedom and arrived safely
in the North, the narrative ended, sometimes very abruptly. The North was often depicted in glowing
rhetorical terms, and one important social/literary convention was that one did not dwell too harshly
on the less than hospitable conditions that fugitive slaves often encountered. One did not, after all,
want to unnecessarily offend the sensibilities of one s hosts, patrons, and readers. In Incidents in the
Life of a Slave Girl, however, Jacobs was very outspoken about the racism she encountered in New
York City and the North.
Finally, Jacobs s narrative is distinguished by its sharp, specific focus on the sexual exploitation of
slave women. Other narrators had touched on this issue to be sure, but none had explored it with the
depth and passion of Jacobs. In this regard, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl was a political effort
designed specifically to help ameliorate the condition of black women in slavery. To achieve this end,
Jacobs had to break deliberately with the genteel Victorian literary and

Digging
Seamus Heaney was born on April 13, 1939, on a farm in Castledawson,
County Derry, Northern Ireland, the eldest of eight children. In 1963, he began teaching at St. Joseph s
College in Belfast.
The first poem I ll be looking at is digging it was written in
1966.
The poem consists of 9 stanzas that vary between two lines and five lines in length. There is no pattern
to the stanzas, perhaps to reflect the idea that there is no pattern or predictability to our memories. In
the poem there is quite a variation in the language e.g. the title is blunt. It is only when we have read
the poem carefully that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was also proud of his grandfather, who was so keen to work that he hardly stopped when Heaney
brought him some milk. To drink it, and then fell to right away this show how hard he worked. His
work was precise nicking and slicing neatly and he was strong heaving sods over his shoulder.
Heaney does not explain exactly why he has no spade to follow men like them . Does he think he is
not physically strong enough for the work? Or does he think his father and grandfather may not
approve of him cultivating the land.
There is quite a lot of alliteration in digging e.g. curd cuts digging down and down and the squelch
and slap of soggy peat this gives the poem life it makes it more interesting to read. The opening simile
is striking Heaney s pen is snug as a gun . It shows how perfectly the pen fits his hand, this shows how
well suited Heaney is to write. (In the fourth stanza, Heaney describes how perfectly his father s body
is in tune with the spade, showing how well suited he is to dig.) The gun image also suggests the
strength of the pen, it is a weapon for writing.
There is a writing technique called enjambment which means lines in a poem that run on from on to
another without a punctuation or pause.
There is an example of this between the second and third stanza. My father, digging.
I look down Till his straining rump among the flowerbeds Bends low, comes up twenty years away,

The Main Features Of Feminism As A Sociological Theory
This essay would describe the main features of feminism as a sociological theory, identify the ways in
which feminism is criticised by other theories, and identify the main differences and similarities
between the theories using qualitative and quantitative evidence to support or challenge the main
theory. It will also discuss how the evidence contradicts the theories.
Sociology is the study of society. Sociology is a study that could help us to understand the relationship
between an individual and the institutions and the interdependent roles within the social relationships
(Llewellyn et al., 2008). According to Cree (2010) sociological theories are concerned with the power,
beliefs, the struggle for necessary resources in the society, ideas, values on the society, action and the
structure of the society, models of change, macro and micro economy in the society. Each of the
theories has their own argument of how they think the society should be. The sociological theories are
Maxims and Functionalism (Llewellyn et al., 2008).
Maxims describe a change in the society through conflict. They also believe in the structural and
economic theory of society that seeks to understand change and promote change. This change is
determined by economic forces, by how goods are produced and by how the means of production are
owned.
Furthermore, Maxims believe the fundamental change occurs through a class struggle where one class

Use Life Insurance
How to Use Life Insurance to Fund Your Retirement
We are taught many things about money while growing up. Ever since we got our first piggy bank, our
parents tried to teach us the importance of saving money. Mostly, we just saved it until we had enough
to buy what it was that we were saving for, be it that cool GI Joe or Barbie doll. As we got older and
got our first jobs, our parents encouraged us further by making sure we had a savings account and
helping us figure out how much we should be saving, whether it be for college or for our first car.
As we got even older and entered into the realm of adulthood, we needed to save for weddings,
houses, children and retirement. Retirement is definitely the farthest removed, but the importance of ...

labourers 5,7 million in forced and bonded labor, 1.8 million in prostitution, and 0.3 million in armed
conflict .( Basu amp; Tzannatos, 2003, p.147). In Africa, Asia and the Middle East, a huge number of
children are child labourers, and most of them under 14 years old. However, they are working hard as

Thus, child labour only can cause poor education to children, and can not give them any benefits.
Be abused People think work doesn t harm children, but the truth is children sometimes are abused by
their employers such as work as slaves and they may get sexual abuse. Children are easy to exploit
through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and punishment.
Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Thus, children easily get abuse from
employers and are controlled by adults. For instance, in the coffee farm in Africa, a worker told a boy
about a child who tried to escape, but failed. The child was caught and badly beaten. This made the
boy afraid and scared. Therefore, fear of punishment make children keep working as slaves for
employers. (Kielland amp; Tovo, 2006). Sexual abuse is really common in African child labourers. It
causes some serious problem to children such as HIV/AIDS. Working children get sexual abuse more
than non working children. For instance, according to Kielland and Tovo. (2006). In their article, child
labour in the commercial labor market , girls work in restaurants longer than boys, and working late
hours in a place where alcohol is served. Some girls provide service which is far beyond food and
drinks. Because there have no general responsibility for those female child labourers, and people think

Animals Of All Kinds Have Been Known For Their Positive...
Animals of all kinds have been known for their positive impact on humans. Animal assisted Therapy
(AAT) was first incorporated into the mental health institutions in the late eighteenth century to help
increase socializations among the patients. As of today, a number of AAT programs have mainly
targeted populations of patients with PTSD or those who have experienced trauma. PTSD (post
traumatic stress disorder) is classified as an anxiety disorder characterized by the common symptoms
avoidance, intrusion, alterations in mood and cognition, and alterations in arousal and reactivity (O
Haire, M.E,. Guerin, N.A., Kirkham, A.C., 2015). The presence of an animal is thought to encourage a
safe and open environment, elicit positive emotion and warmth, increase socializations, and increase
the release of oxytocin, which aids in the relaxation process. Perhaps that s why PTSD or trauma
patients respond so well when AAT is included in treatment. AAT is not a therapy used alone, but
rather coupled with other treatment to enhance the therapy process. (Dietz, T. J., Davis., Pennings, J.
2012).
PICO Statement My PICO statement is in patients with PTSD or traumatic experiences, what is the
effect of animal assisted therapy compared to no animal assisted therapy on decreasing traumatic
symptoms? Therapy is the type of PICO question. Based on my PICO statement the best type of
evidence to use for this particular question would be randomized or non randomized controlled trials.

Correlation Between the Attack on Pearl Harbor and the...
The events of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 changed not just the American way of life,
but the way in which terrorism will forever be viewed. Moments after the first plane changed our way
of life by crashing into the first tower, it also changed the way people will live their lives for many
generations from that point forward. For the first time on Continental United States soil, America was
under siege. Months after the attack many political figures and citizens wondered about warning signs
and if there were indicators that may have identified a warning or imminent attack. As the attacks
were analyzed a correlation between the attack on Pearl Harbor and New York City had indicators of
imminent attacks.

for this information, unless it planned to use it to attack ships in the harbor. If translated sooner, these
messages would have warned the US of the imminent attack. Many indicators for Pearl Harbor could
have repeated before the attack on the calm morning on 9 1 1.
In the past, there were many attacks on Americans that were treated as extremist acts and indicators of
continuing attacks against Americans and their targets of opportunity. One premonition of the 9 1 1
attacks occurred on the very site of the actual attack on 9 1 1. On February 26, 1993, the World Trade

with 1,500 lbs of explosive in the basement structure of the North Tower. Their intention was to topple
it into the South Tower killing thousands. The results were six killed and almost two thousand injured
when the devastation was completed. Closer to the 9 1 1 attack, men with Middle Eastern physical
traits wanted to learn how to fly planes without learning to land them. This should have been an
indicator of hidden agendas which should have raised more alarms.

Abstract Disaster Recovery (DR) proposes strategies for choosing the pattern of DR for every
business Unit. The importance of the business and the DR readiness is assessed by the recovery time
objective (RTO) and recovery point objective (RPO). This assessing method make sure business
continuity even under a drastic failure and a long disrupted period. The data backup and protection has
become a basic requirement in networks because of the generation of data in huge volume from each

Traditionally, the DRP was to back up the data in a remote place and then access them during disaster.
The storing of data remotely can take place in two ways either periodically or from time to time.
These methods were costly and inefficient since large amount of storage was needed. The
development in cloud computing paved a way for this problem. In cloud computing large amount of
data can be generated and stored. Also, this gives real time backup of data. Though only large scale
business units use real time backup other advantages of cloud computing are utilized by other business
units. The primary working site and the backup site is separated. The probability of failure occurring
in both sites at the same time is rare. The RTO is defined as the time during which the business unit is
unavailable due to the failure. This includes the time of the disaster occurrence and the time needed to
restore the functionalities. The RPO is the time period between two successive backups. This metric
will let the user aware of the maximum amount of data that can be lost when the restoration is
completed. The RPO should be close to 0 in an optimized DR system.
MOTIVATION
Disaster recovery has become the topic of interest in today s research due to two main reasons: (1) The
size of the computer data handled by the organizations are huge and are growing with time. (2) if the
data loss is not handled within the

An Interconnection Of Distributed Generations ( Dgs )
A microgrid is an interconnection of distributed generations (DGs), either a set of dispatchable
generating sources such as, gas turbines and fuel cells or non dispatchable generators such as, wind
turbines and photovoltaic sources, integrated with electrical and thermal energy storage devices to
meet the customers local energy needs, operating as a single system and small scale, on low voltage
distribution systems providing both power and heat. To ensure that the microgrid is operated as a
single aggregated system and meets power quality, reliability and security standards, power electronic
interfaces and controls need to be applied [1 2]. A microgrid should be capable work in two modes,
grid connected or islanded. The DGs are usually power electronics interfaced and in the grid
connected mode of operation, a microgrid is supported by the main grid s voltage and frequency. In
the island mode, the DG control is responsible for frequency regulation. Moreover, the control is also
responsible for managing the active and reactive power contributions of the DG system, such that the
load power is properly shared amongst the DG systems of the microgrid. Centralized control
approaches, however, require remarkable data transfer capacities and reliable communication links
[3], [4] and [5]. As such, they may be suitable for small scale microgrid in which the DG systems are
close together. For DG systems that are scattered over a large geographic span, decentralized droop

First, The Raven a poem written by Edgar Allen Poe, was a very interesting poem each stanza was
different yet had great detail in them and referred a lot to nature. This poem was very interesting to me
and that s why I chose this response. The poem is about a character who one night is sitting in their
room, reading trying to forget about their lost love Lenore. When then they hear a noise sounded like a
knock on the door, after opening the door finding that no one is there the character is then frightened.
Hoping that it is just the wind at the window the character then opens the window and lets in the

questions. The raven in end of the poem could also be looked as a demon who terrors upon the man.
The natural world being terrifying to the character they feel protected in this room. When the character

Service Members’ Transition to Community College Essay
Introduction
As demographics of college and university students in the United States evolve, so too must the
policies and procedures used to assist students in their pursuit of post secondary education (Radford,
2009). By the passage of educational acts such as the Servicemen s Readjustment Act of 1944 (Public

(Public Law 100 48), institutions of higher education have committed themselves not only to educate
the recently discharged and deactivated, but to address a student population with unique needs.

Under the original GI Bill (Public Law 78 346), about 4.9 million veterans enrolled in vocational and
technical training (Field, Helbel, Smallwood, 2008). According to the Department of Veterans Affairs,
Bradley (2009) surmised that an estimated 112,000 claims for benefits under the new GI Bill have
already been processed, and an estimated 250,000 veterans are expected to receive education benefits
in the next two years. Perhaps the greatest need of many returning veterans is assistance in addressing
psychological and social problems associated with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic
brain injury, or multiple physical injuries (Ford, Northrup, Wiley, 2009). While, historically,
community colleges are charged with serving those outside traditional student populations, it is
imperative that institutions of higher education recognize and plan for military and veteran student
needs.
Many combat veterans return with mental health needs that can complicate educational achievement.
In addition to specific disorders such as traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder,
combat veterans experience psychosocial disruption as they rapidly transition from the role from
warrior to that of student. (Sachs, 2008, p.1)

Transcendentalism is an American literary, philosophical movement, promoting the idea of
independent progress. The central idea is the optimistic viewpoint of humanity. People, men and
women equally, have knowledge about themselves and the world around them that transcends or goes
beyond what they can see, hear, taste, touch or feel. A transcendentalist is a person who accepts these
ideas without the influence of religion as a way of understanding life relationships. Emerson was a
Harvard educated essayist and lecturer and is recognized as our first truly American thinker. In his
most famous essay, The American Scholar, he urged Americans to stop looking to Europe for
inspiration and imitation and be themselves. He believed that people were naturally good and that
everyone s potential was limitless. He inspired his colleagues to look into themselves, into nature, into
art, and through work for answers to life s most perplexing questions. His intellectual contributions to
the philosophy of transcendentalism inspired a uniquely American idealism and spirit of reform. Dark

Obstacles In The Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
The poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes is a free verse conversation between a mother and her
son. The mother talks about the stairs using it as a metaphor for life. She outlines life not being easy
by telling her son that the stairs she ascended on was not perfect. When Langston wrote this essay, life
was difficult particular for people of color. The mother tells the son that he will have numerous
obstacles in life by saying the stairs had various challenges to get pass. Of course, the mother in the
poem tries to encourage her son to keep moving in life. The way the poem opens, it looks like the son
was feeling discouraged and asked for her advice. It appears that life had thrown a curve ball at the
son and he wants to give up. She begins

Personal Statement On Team Rules
13. Team Rules I will determine most of the basic rules concerning GPA, being late to practice, and
the consequences for not reaching the statistics base marks (number of points scored in a quarter,
serving percentage, etc.) set before each game by the coaching staff. However, rules concerning what
to wear on game days, whether team lunches are required, etc. I will leave up to my team to decide at
the beginning of the season. I also believe that because they will be setting up these rules that they are
also the ones responsible for the consequences as well. 14. Scholarships I want to be an extremely
active coach concerning recruiting. As a coach, I would like to eventually coach at the collegiate level
and having the ability to both network as well as produce players that are scholarship worthy is a way
to portray my ability as a coach. As a coach, I want what is best for my players and I want them to
truly love the sport. If they come to love the sport and would like to play on in college, I want them to
be able to have that opportunity. I did not have any coaches that were active in helping me to know
how to recruit myself. I think that if I would have had more information about recruiting then it would
have benefitted me as an athlete. I will make sure that every freshman that comes into my program is
aware of the NCAA Eligibility Center and how the recruiting process works regardless of whether I
think they could play collegiately. As a coach, I will not know until

Iran before the Revolution
The Pahlavi dynasty In 1921, Reza Khan (later Reza Shah Pahlavi), an officer in Iran s military force
used his troops to support a coup against the government of the Qajar Dynasty. (Ghasemi) The Qajar

due to his containment of rebellions and establishment of order and he was named the new Shah of
Iran.
Economy under the Shah Reza Shah had plans to modernize Iran while he was the ruler. These plans
included developing large scale industries, implementing major infrastructure projects, building a
cross country railroad system, establishing a national public education system, reforming the judiciary,
and improving health care. (Ghasemi) Also, the rate of imports and exports increased, with Germany,
the US and the Soviet Union becoming Iran s primary trading partners. From 1954 to 1960, oil
revenues increased rapidly and sustained foreign aid led to greater investment and rapid economic
growth. However, inflation increased and the value of the Iranian currency decreased.
Society under the Shah Society under the Shah was different than Iranian society today due to many
reasons. First, women were not

Dental Issues Like Gum Disease
Dental issues, like gum disease, do more than just affect your oral health. In fact, research shows that
heart disease and stroke are often associated with gum disease, and while no clear cause and effect
relationship has been proven by doctors just yet, studies show that gum disease directly increases the
risk of developing serious heart conditions. For this reason, the dentists at Kenton Dental Care,
Kenton, Ohio s leading center for family dentistry, say that routine dental exams along with good oral
hygiene habits are essential to fighting off gum disease and keeping your heart healthy.

Suicide was published in 1897, the work is considered cutting edge both for showing detailed research of suicide that revealed there can and is social causes to suicide. Based on Durkheim s research he said that suicide can be caused by social factors, not just individual psychological ones. Durkheim reasoned that being apart of society and integrated into groups in particular is a main factor. The more involved in society and connected to others the less likely they are to commit suicide. As this sense of belonging decreases suicide increases. • 3. Childhood Development Through Active And Participatory... Childhood can be explained as an early stage of life in which there is the existence of development through active and participatory socialization. The stage of childhood only began to exist post fifteenth and sixteenth century; children used to be considered miniature adults (James, p. 16). Once children were removed from the adulthood designation, the attitudes of parents also began to change; they began coddling their children. Prior to the fifteenth century, children were expected to perform hard labour. As formal education grew in popularity within society, it added an extra component to the socialization of children. In the book Constructing and Reconstructing Childhood, (2004, p.13) Shildkrout concludes that in the traditional approach of socialization, child culture is seen as a rehearsal for adult life and socialization consists of the process through which, by one method or another, children are made to conform, in cases of successful socializations or become deviants in cases of failed socialization . This brings forth the ideology that children develop and are socialized on a universal spectrum that has only successful or deviant outcomes. Although there are advantages of recognizing the importance of the traditional approach on childhood socialization, it is vital to use the childhood perspective to gain a complete understanding of the socialization of children. The childhood perspective on socialization is an approach that is strictly understood from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today s day and age of our American judicial system, most would agree our judges are overworked. The federal judges of the court system handle a vast number of court cases each year in the United States. It has become directionally proportional between the growing populations, the increase in crime, in turn leading to more cases. There should be a dramatic addition of judges within the federal court system to lower the workload of the justices. The fact that there has been talk and discussion about resolutions; this may be the first step to resolving the problem. In the beginning days of our judicial system, as said before, a judge s caseload seemed to be reasonable. It was not until the last few decades where the workload skyrocketed. In civil cases alone from the 1940s through the mid 1990s, the caseload increased nearly 580 percent. To emphasize the point, bankruptcy cases within the same time frame had increased over 1500 percent. There is no question that the ratio between cases and judges has become overwhelming. • 7. Recycling Is A Waste Of Money And Time Abstract In the not too distant future, recycling will no longer be speculated and studied. It will simply be a fact of everyday life. In the last 20 years, recycling rates in the United States have risen from 13 percent to almost 24 percent. More than ever before, recycled waste is being kept out of our county dumps and incinerators and is being put to many different uses, creating new jobs and companies. Those who don t agree that recycling has any benefit say that recycling costs more than dumping, falsely claiming that recycling is a complete waste of money and time. However, recycling today is often less expensive than dumping or burning, and is quickly becoming the preferred alternative. In this essay, I want to show how recycling isn t just a business or environmental issue, it is something much larger that we must embrace and make a priority in our every day living. As stewards of this planet, we are obligated to make everyone cognizant of how important recycling is to our existence, and pass what we have learned on to future generations. If we can only begin to think differently about how we handle our every day waste, we can help ensure a clean environment well into the future. What is recycling? Recycling is returning materials to their raw material components and using them again to supplement or replace new materials in the manufacture of new products. Recycling involves several steps; separating recyclable materials from waste, collecting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Discovery Of Penicillin During World War II In 1928, after the careless mistake of forgetting to clean his dishes, Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. The scientific community still celebrates his discovery since it was a major breakthrough in science, especially in the antibiotics and fermentation field. Although his discovery changed various scientific fields and it opened the doors for research in areas not studied or considered relevant before, the actual usefulness of penicillin was truly reached until the large scale production of penicillin was achieved. Before its manufacturing penicillin was considered for researching purposes, but after its manufacturing during World War II, it truly became helpful for humanity because it could finally start performing within its antibiotic spectrum. Although it is true that the discovery of penicillin was attributed to Alexander Fleming, the response of the rest of the scientific community was crucial in order to achieve the large scale production of penicillin. After the incalculable loss of life during World War II, the scientific community was urged to unite and work together for the development of the large scale production of penicillin. Declaring a major in neuroscience allowed me to explore the components of biology I loved, while incorporating psychology and chemistry. I examine the expression of a conceptual gene, cg31235, which is solely expressed in longitudinal glial cells, in the presence of the genes Pointed P1 (PntP1) and Reversed Polarity (Repo). Subsequently, I will then use immunostaining to examine the expression of PntP1 and Repo in order to determine whether they regulate the genes involved in the in the development and function of longitudinal glia. Beer is the alcoholic beverage of choice in North America and many other parts around the world. It has shaped the culture of human civilization, social interaction and has had a significant contribution to our economy. In order to get a proper perspective on beer you have to look at three main periods; ancient history (the development period), modernization of beer and its effects, and what role beer plays today and where it is going. Archaeologists have uncovered ancient Babylonian beer recipes engrave on clay tablets as early as 3500 B.C. This early beer was very crude and many people today would probably not consider drinking it today as it had bread chunks and had the consistency similar to porridge. To drink this ancient beer people would consume it using straws to filter out sediment and large chunks. Once Beer started to become more popular and commercialized, the first set of laws regulating it were set in place by the Babylonians. Paragraph 108 in the Code of Hammurabi stated and if anyone were caught selling beer for cash instead of corn in order to cheat their customers, they would be drowned as a punishment. Weider and Gutierrez (2011), sums up worldview as 1. A personal philosophy of life 2. A framework a person brings to decision making 3. A filter or lens which a person uses to interpret life and the world around them . (p. 51). The opening verses of Genesis contains several ideas about the natural world and our place in it and clearly tells us that God is the source of all life and that creation is good. • 23. College Students Are Responsible For Interpreting And... College students are responsible for interpreting and remembering a vast amount of information. An efficient method for remembering things can be associations that are pictures or sounds that aid a person in remembering information. There also can be certain distractions that can hinder the amount of information that one can recollect. In a two way ANOVA, we tested the effect that associations and distractions can have on memory recall. We hypothesized that when an association was present, participants would be able to record more words than when there not any associations present. We also hypothesized that when a distraction was present, participants would record less words than when distractions are not present. We used a between subjects design and with the use of a visual presentation to we tested college level students on their memory recall. According to the data collected, we accept the null hypothesis for both of the hypothesis. Since none of the trials presented to the participants contained a significant difference, associations and distractions that were tested were not significant enough to be from a different population. At a more personal level, it was written to vindicate Harriet Jacobs, both to reveal her history and to account for it in a public setting. Jacobs s narrative signals several significant departures from the literary and social conventions of the slave narrative, a genre that enjoyed widespread popularity in the United States during the 1840s and 1850s. Slave narratives written by men characteristically focused on the heroic struggles of individuals, lone figures struggling against the injustices of the slave system. The actual and symbolic geography of the slave narrative moved inexorably from the South to the North. The southern landscape was depicted in terms of imprisonment, confinement, and slavery, while the North was inevitably identified with freedom. Once the narrator achieved freedom and arrived safely in the North, the narrative ended, sometimes very abruptly. The North was often depicted in glowing rhetorical terms, and one important social/literary convention was that one did not dwell too harshly on the less than hospitable conditions that fugitive slaves often encountered. One did not, after all, want to unnecessarily offend the sensibilities of one s hosts, patrons, and readers. In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, however, Jacobs was very outspoken about the racism she encountered in New York City and the North. Finally, Jacobs s narrative is distinguished by its sharp, specific focus on the sexual exploitation of slave women. Other narrators had touched on this issue to be sure, but none had explored it with the depth and passion of Jacobs. In this regard, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl was a political effort designed specifically to help ameliorate the condition of black women in slavery. To achieve this end, Jacobs had to break deliberately with the genteel Victorian literary and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is quite a lot of alliteration in digging e.g. curd cuts digging down and down and the squelch and slap of soggy peat this gives the poem life it makes it more interesting to read. The Main Features Of Feminism As A Sociological Theory This essay would describe the main features of feminism as a sociological theory, identify the ways in which feminism is criticised by other theories, and identify the main differences and similarities between the theories using qualitative and quantitative evidence to support or challenge the main theory. It will also discuss how the evidence contradicts the theories. Sociology is the study of society. Sociology is a study that could help us to understand the relationship between an individual and the institutions and the interdependent roles within the social relationships (Llewellyn et al., 2008). According to Cree (2010) sociological theories are concerned with the power, beliefs, the struggle for necessary resources in the society, ideas, values on the society, action and the structure of the society, models of change, macro and micro economy in the society. Each of the theories has their own argument of how they think the society should be. The sociological theories are Maxims and Functionalism (Llewellyn et al., 2008). Maxims describe a change in the society through conflict. They also believe in the structural and economic theory of society that seeks to understand change and promote change. This change is determined by economic forces, by how goods are produced and by how the means of production are owned. Children are easy to exploit through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and punishment. Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Animal assisted Therapy (AAT) was first incorporated into the mental health institutions in the late eighteenth century to help increase socializations among the patients. As of today, a number of AAT programs have mainly targeted populations of patients with PTSD or those who have experienced trauma. PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) is classified as an anxiety disorder characterized by the common symptoms avoidance, intrusion, alterations in mood and cognition, and alterations in arousal and reactivity (O Haire, M.E,. The presence of an animal is thought to encourage a safe and open environment, elicit positive emotion and warmth, increase socializations, and increase the release of oxytocin, which aids in the relaxation process. Perhaps that s why PTSD or trauma patients respond so well when AAT is included in treatment. AAT is not a therapy used alone, but rather coupled with other treatment to enhance the therapy process. Traditionally, the DRP was to back up the data in a remote place and then access them during disaster. The storing of data remotely can take place in two ways either periodically or from time to time. These methods were costly and inefficient since large amount of storage was needed. The development in cloud computing paved a way for this problem. In cloud computing large amount of data can be generated and stored. Also, this gives real time backup of data. Though only large scale business units use real time backup other advantages of cloud computing are utilized by other business units. The primary working site and the backup site is separated. The probability of failure occurring in both sites at the same time is rare. The RTO is defined as the time during which the business unit is unavailable due to the failure. This includes the time of the disaster occurrence and the time needed to restore the functionalities. The RPO is the time period between two successive backups. This metric will let the user aware of the maximum amount of data that can be lost when the restoration is completed. The RPO should be close to 0 in an optimized DR system. As a coach, I will not know until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
