Pepsi Of Pepsi Cola Company Essay
Pepsi Cola started as Brads Drink in his drugstore in New Bern, North Carolina in 1893. Caleb Doc
Davis Bradham decided to create a mix of sugar, water, caramel, lemon oil, nutmeg, and other natural
additives. Officially it became Pepsi Cola five years later due to its word of mouth popularity. In 1902
The Pepsi Cola Company was formed due to great demand of the product and popularity among
customers. Mr. Bradham decide to devote all his time to the product and it proceeded to become a full
fledged company. After applying for a trademark, the first Pepsi Cola company was formed and Mr.
Bradham was the first president. The company had many ups and downs but it wasn t due to not trying
to build and market the business. It fell on particular hard times during WW1 and was bankrupt in
1923 and the assets were sold to Craven Holding Corporation, the first of what would become several
ownership changes. In the early 1930 s, Pepsi Cola was once again bankrupt after the trademark was
purchased by New York stockbroker Roy Megargel. In 1931 Pepsi Cola finally took off after being
purchased by Charles G. Guth, the founder of the modern Pepsi Cola. His marketing skills took the
company to new heights, but it was not meant to be. Legal battles cost him ownership and in 1941
Pepsi was merged into Loft Inc. and the Pepsi Cola name merged in Loft. In 1950 a former vice
president of Coca Cola became CEO of the Pepsi and the product took off due to his advertising and
marketing ideas. In

Chronic Myeloid Leukaemi Symptoms And Treatment
Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia
Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia is a hematopoietic proliferative disorder associated with a specific defect
in the gene (Ciesla 2007, pp. 189). The gene defect is caused due to the translocation of the genetic
material between chromosome 9 and chromosome 22 (t9: 22). The translocation prompts to the
development of a hybrid gene BCR ALB in the Philadelphia chromosome, or Ph1. Therefore, this
fusion gene mutation affects the maturation and differentiation of the haematopoietic cells (Ciesla
2007, pp. 189). However the introduction of a BCR ALB particular tyrosine kinase inhibitor, Imatinib
has significantly enhanced the survival rate of the patient with chronic myeloid leukaemia (Hochhaus,
et al.2015). This essay will briefly describe the diagnosis, treatment and future strategies for chronic
myeloid leukaemia.
Diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukaemia in most cases is done on the basis of differential blood count
characterised by excess granulocytes (neutrophil, eosinophil and basophil) with typical left shift of
granulopoesis (Hehlmann et al.2007). Conformation of CML can be done by identifying if there is a
presence of Ph chromosome or BCR ALB transcript in the peripheral blood or the bone marrow cells
(Hehlmann et al.2007). However, if Ph chromosome is not detected conformation can also be done by
either reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or fluorescence in situ hybridisation
(FISH) (Hehlmann et al.2007). Fig 1: Above figure

In his third album, To Pimp A Butterfly , which was released in March 2015, Kendrick Lamar

each addressed different situations in the US. The vocal attitude in his song, King Kunta and the
musical elements makes it a very appealing song to any listener. The reference to his song, Kunta
Kinte, was a slave in Virginia in the 18th century as stipulated in the Alex Haley s novel Roots: The
Saga of an American Family. Kinte is famous for his resistance against slavery having gotten his right
foot amputated following his attempted escape from slavery and the work in the plantation where he

Mary Musgrove s Role In Native American History
The diverse recognitions and accomplishments of many famous historical Native American women
has created them to be viewed as heroic figures, ultimately causing them to influence and improve
Native American history. Mary Musgrove was born in 1700 in Georgia, and was a member of the
Cherokee. She was a colonial American translator and negotiator for English and Yamacraw ancestry.
She facilitated in the development of Colonial Georgia and became an important negotiator between
the Muscogee Creek Indians and the English colonists. These two distinct societies caused Musgrove
to bridge the gap between them, ultimately causing her to become a cultural mediator, who not only
translated but advised those who acknowledged her capabilities and hardships. After many years of
attempting to unite two diverse worlds, she died in her sleep in 1767. Mary Musgrove is known as an

Euripides Hippolytus
Euripides Hippolytus shows three key themes that are significant to the play, by showing the theme of
lust, honour and betrayal which are shown from the lines 490 512, they set up the flow of the play and
relates directly to the dramatic conflict between the lust and continence of Phaedra and Hippolytus,
this scene shows Phaedra to be the true central character of the play since her actions are pivotal to the
fate Hippolytus and herself.
The extract epitomises the theme of lust. In the exchange the nurse encourages Phaedra to give in to
her lust to cure her feelings, I would never egg you on like this to get you into bed with your man.
(Euripides, 2003, Line 494). This suggests that instead of fighting the feelings in silence as Phaedra ...

This scene gives an insight in to the character of Phaedra as opposed to the effect Aphrodite has had
over her. The scene shows that Phaedra is disgusted by the nurse s insistence on bedding Hippolytus,
what an appalling thing to say! (Euripides, 2003, Line 498) Phaedra s reaction to the nurse
encouragement of adultery shows that her honour and virtue is of more importance, but she is losing
her battle, I shall be consumed in what I am trying to shun (Euripides, 2003, Line 506). The nurse
however does not see the implications that acting upon Phaedra s feelings would have. This shows the
significance of the scene as it sets the flow of the play and leads to the death of both Phaedra and
Hippolytus.
Betrayal is a theme throughout Euripides Hippolytus, in the exchange between the nurse and Phaedra
the theme of betrayal is alluded to, the nurse attempts to convince Phaedra to betray Theseus by giving
in to her emotions to cure her of her lust for Hippolytus. Phaedra is unwilling to betray Theseus, but
the nurse convinces her that using her love charm would do no harm to your wits or your reputation
((Euripides, 2003, Line 511). This sets the theme for the rest of the

With Ely Callaway back at the helm, Callaway Golf proceeded to introduce a new set of titanium
metal woods, and its low center of gravity tungsten injected titanium irons. The metal woods
reportedly gave the ball a more penetrating flight, while the irons facilitated long trajectory shots.
In February 2000, Callaway Golf introduced its much anticipated Rule 35 golf balls. Named after the
unofficial 35th Rule of Golf, which admonishes the player to enjoy the game, the balls superior
performance made them the Number 2 ball in usage, top 10 finishes and wins in the five major
professional tours in their first year in play.
In 2000, Callaway Golf announced that it would produce a new forged titanium driver. But with the
introduction of its so called ERC II Forged Titanium Driver later that year, Callaway Golf suddenly
found itself double bogeyed. Although the new driver was ruled eligible for play overseas (it was
actually rated the top driver in Japan and the number one driver on the Japan PGA tour), it was ruled
to be non conforming to the United States Golf Association s (USGA) limits on the coefficient of
restitution – that is to say, its action was too spring like – and the club was therefore deemed
unacceptable for play in tournament events where USGA Rules apply.
By mid 2002, the USGA had decided that the banned drivers would be legal for use by recreational
golfers – but not for professionals – until 2008, after which time they would again be

Jack Welch is the CEO of General Electric (GE). He has an exceptionally legitimate methodology
with regards to dealing with his organization. As indicated by the video, Jack Welch anticipates that
his workers will be lively, have high official capacity, and be energetic with an edge. Be that as it may,
there is an extensive contention encompassing Jack Welch. Jack Welch sorts out his representatives in

Freeway 280 Analysis
Family and heritage are very important aspects to human life. To begin, this is what is addressed in the
poems, Freeway 280, by Lorna Dee Cervantes and Simon Ortiz s, Hunger in New York City. Both
poems share a great amount of similarities like the way they address the importance of family and
heritage and the message of both poems. They address the importance of family and heritage by using
objects or feelings, metaphorically, to express their family or heritage. Not only that, but both poems
share the message that a person s past stays with them no matter where or how far they go. Ultimately,
both poems address the importance of family and heritage the same way and also share the same
message.

To start, Lorna Dee Cervantes talks about her family and heritage using a freeway as the main idea.
She talks about how a freeway now covers a spot where little houses used to exist near the gray
cannery (Cervantes, 1). Here under this freeway, the author remembers her childhood that now has
been covered, but she remembers that when she used to live in this area, she wanted to leave. She
wanted to find a place that was different from where she lived, but a part of her wants to relive her
childhood. The author states, Maybe it s here en los camps extraños de esta ciudad where I ll find it,
that part of me mown under like a corpse or a loose seed (Cervantes, 20 25). The author wants to
remember all the good times she had during her childhood home. She remembers how important her
family was to her. On the other hand, Hunger in New York City, uses hunger as a way to show the
importance of family and heritage. Simon Ortiz talks that hunger can come from anywhere or from
anything. In this case, he uses hunger in place of his parents. After moving to New York City, the

1.8 Supply Chain Drivers In Agribusiness. In This Chapter,
1.8 Supply Chain Drivers in Agribusiness
In this chapter, we have so far discussed the role of supply chain drivers namely facilities, inventory,
and transportation, sourcing and information technology impacting the performance of inputs industry.
1 Facility
Facility management for the agricultural inputs sector is an important aspect of supply chain drivers.
When one looks at any facility, its various forms need to be analyzed. One aspect is with respect to
manufacturing, process, and resource endowment, and the other is about creating storage spaces such
as warehouses and regional distribution centers, especially with respect to input management.
In the case of a seed multiplication plant for cereals and other large crop bases where seed ... Show

Kharif season is after first rains of south west monsoon in India, which is in June July and harvest
happens in September and October. Rabi season starts after the kharif season and more popularly
termed winter crop with plantation in November and harvest in February/March. Cultivation is
triggered by the onset of the monsoon. Inputs such as seeds and capital equipment and preparatory
farm equipment would be required at the initiation of crop farming. As the crop firms up, farmers
would need fertilizers, crop nutrients, and pesticides. Later, farmers would need farmer extension
support services, harvesting support, and support in reaching the markets. All these activities require
an effective inventory management policy across the supply chain.
The players deploy inventory concepts such as cycle inventory, safety inventory, seasonal inventory,
and pipeline inventory. Inventory could be in the form of raw material, work in progress, or finished
goods.
Cycle inventory is the average inventory that builds up within the supply chain, because a supply
chain stage either produces or purchases in lots that are larger in volume than the demands of
customers. Raw materials, components, and parts are required for production. The cycle plays a
crucial role in keeping the production process continuous. Raw materials and work in progress
inventories are a major part of the production related inventory. This works even in the agribusiness
input sector. Fertilizers typically work

Film Analysis Of The Mise-En-Scene In Film
The Mise en scene describes the elements and details in a scene of a film and the way they are shown
and arranged. This being said, the lighting, makeup, costumes, setting and props are all key factors of
Mise en scene. The setting in a film creates a sense of place, a mood, and may also reflect a character s
emotional state. It can be entirely fabricated within a studio just like Rear Window or it may also be
found and filmed on location. Perhaps the most easily visible aspect of mise en scene is costume.
Costume can include both makeup or wardrobe choices that are used to convey a character s
temperament or status, and to suggest these differences between characters. Lighting is a huge part of
filmmaking. Lights are what a cinematographer uses to paint a set. They use lighting changes to help
define characters, create a setting, or to portray how that character is feeling. In the next few
paragraphs, I will point out all the cinimatograpgy of the Mise en scene from the clips from The
Godfather and Rear Window. The opening sequence of Rear Window is a curtain raiser... literally. it
opens with the camera on the inside of J.B Jefferies(Jeff) s Livingroom in his apartment. The credits
are shown on the scene of a window in jeffs apartment, while the blinds on the window behind them
are slowly raised. Making me compare it to watching a production at the theater, where they raise the
curtains at the start of the show. This opening scene takes the audience into a comfortable setting; we
re in a seemingly nice neighborhood and it is a beautiful morning! As we start to take in the scene, The
camera then cuts to an angled shot that is looking out of the window and down, where we follow a cat
walking up the stairway and into the courtyard. The camera makes a brief stop at the ladder against the
apartment building before it slowly tilts upwards (almost as if its were climbing the ladder!) the
camera then stops at the upper apartment balcony where a small family can be seen getting ready. The
camera then pans left, showing the audience all of the open windows on the apartment complex,
where we can see that none of the windows has their curtains fully drawn or their blinds down for
privacy. There s a sudden flash from

Statin Research Paper
Statins (also known as 3 hydroxy 3 methylgutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors) are widely
prescribed cholesterol lowering drugs for the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.
Although they are considered to be drugs with a very good safety profile, there are many concerns that
their adverse effects might compromise their proven beneficial effects due to their extensive usage.
Even though more aggressive lipid lowering with potent statins in high doses can reduce rates of non
fatal events and need for interventions, the incremental mortality benefits are still vague, and their use
is associated with a higher rate of drug related adverse effects.

Clinical experience shows that statin therapy may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several widely used statins (such as lovastatin, atorvastatin and simvastatin) are metabolized by the
cytochrome P450 (CYP)3A4 pathway.
Co administration of statins with cyclosporine, erythromycin, niacin or fibrates carries an increased
risk for myopathy. Cyclosporin and erythromycin interact with statins via the CYP3A4 pathway and
by interfering with OAT1B1 a membrane transporter that helps regulate drug influx to the liver.
Certain drugs, such as calcium channel blockers, are considered weaker CYP3A4 inhibitors and
appear to increase statin rhabdomyolysis risk to a lower degree. Furthermore, grapefruit juice and
pomegranate juice inhibit CYP3A4 and have been presumptively linked to statin rhabdomyolysis.
In conclusion, statins are the mainstay of lipid lowering therapy, with multiple studies confirming that
low density lipoprotein reduction leads to improvements in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
Adverse effects and interactions associated with their use are outweighed by their proven benefits in

Wash Your Nails Research Paper
Every girl wants a great set of nails. We want them to be long, strong, and shiny. When you sit down
and do your nails, the last thing you want is the paint to smudge, chip, or even your nail to totally
break. ANNOYING! Just to give you all a brief backstory on my nails, my nails used to be fabulous
before I moved to LA. Once I arrive, they became brittle and cracked at the tips. They were not pretty.
Even paying for a quick $20 manicure never really helped. So I turned to my great source and
knowledgeable pal, Google. Here are some quick tips I would like to share.
1. Do Not Wash Your Hands
I always thought you were to wash your hands and nails prior to applying your nail color to get rid of
any debris or polish remover. However, this can cause your nails and cuticles to trap moisture which
will later help promote your polish to chip. Instead, I would recommend taking a cotton ball and
applying some rubbing alcohol to help remove any debris from your nails. ... Show more content on

Sanitize Your Utensils
I had no clue that I should sanitize my emory board, but it does make total sense. When using clippers,
cuticle cutters, files, and buffers, it is highly recommended to disinfect with warm water and
antibacterial soap or Barbicide. Clippers are prone to catching bacteria from the tip of your fingers,
just below your nails. This bacteria can grow rapidly if the clippers are stored in a bathroom where it
is dark, hot and humid. If the bacteria are left on the clippers, you are allowing the bacteria to get
under your nails which can help aid in

What Is The Art Of Tattoos Essay
It may seem a little grandiose to talk about the art of tattooing, but when you are truly familiar with
what goes into being a professional tattooist, you recognize that there is good reason these men and
women are called tattoo artists. It takes both natural talent and the drive to perfect skills in order to
develop into a true tattoo artist.
While the art of tattooing is certainly unique in the overall art world, many of the fundamentals are the
same. Studying the basics of drawing, painting, illustration, and other forms of visual art are a great
way to build the skills needed to become a successful tattoo artist.
Most people actually start out by simply recognizing that they have both a knack for and an interest in
creating art on paper. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than actual canvas or some sort of specialized paper, the tattoo artist imprints his or her
creations onto the skin of a living, breathing human being. This creates both challenges and benefits
that other types of artists will never experience. For one thing, a tattoo artist s work constantly moves
from one location to another, rather than being displayed on a wall in a home or a museum or in the
pages of a book.
Unlike other canvases, however, skin is very unforgiving. There is no erasing of mistakes or throwing
out a first attempt and starting fresh on a new sheet of paper. In addition, receiving a tattoo can be
rather uncomfortable, so the tattoo artist must constantly be aware of the need to make his or her
canvas more comfortable or to reassure it. Dedicating oneself to the art of tattooing requires the ability
to work with other people and to inspire and earn their trust.
What It Takes to Become a Tattoo Artist
Becoming a tattoo artist requires a certain type of person. There are some very specific skills and
qualities that are required. If you re interested in becoming a tattoo artist, you may want to check out

Difference Between Polyface And Industrial Model Of Food...
Key differences between the operating system of Polyface and the industrial model of food production
1. Polyface model Integrated strategy: Polyface is a small scale, community oriented farming. It was
envisioned to be an environmentally sustainable farm, effectively utilizing the resources inherent in
the land, and mimicking the natural ecosystem. The activities of the farm animals complimented each
other and contributed to the overall effectiveness and productivity of the farm s system. The waste
produced was ultimately returned back to the land. For example Polyface utilized excreta and
composted internal organs of the farm animals for use as natural fertilizer for the grass. It believed in
nature s biodiversity system and maintained its animal ratio accordingly to suit that system. For
example the hen to cow ratio was 16:1 which effectively helped process the cow manure. Polyface
focused on organic farming, selling the bulk of their products locally. Compared to the industrial
model, Polyface produced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example Polyface produced variety of products: beef, pork, chicken, turkey, rabbit, eggs,
vegetables etc. the infrastructure cost was $0.50 per $1 of sales compared to $4 per $1 of sales for

year. Polyface has been able to leverage the operational synergies between its various inter dependant
processes and it has also utilized the waste it produces to further its operational efficiency. The main
difficult aspect in such a case is to manage the inter dependencies between the processes as a problem
in one process will affect the other. Since the proportional output level is determined by the process
synergies. In case of any expansion the challenge is to ensure that the operational synergies are not

Those radiated light is supposed to leave the Earth, but instead they are absorbed by the greenhouse
gases, and radiated back to the surface of the Earth. This continuous process of circulation of radiated
heat within the Earth s atmosphere causes the rise in the temperature of earth. ( Global Climate
Change: Causes. ). This process can be referred as greenhouse effect. The greenhouse gases that traps
the radiated heat include water vapor, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane, Nitrous oxide,
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC s), etc. The presence of all these gases in the atmosphere is the main
reason of the greenhouse effect, and it is what that causes global warming. ( Global Climate Change:

Researchers and scientists say that the greenhouse effect is the main cause of global warming. The
greenhouse effect is a natural process which is necessary to support life on Earth. It becomes a
problem when the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere increases. The greenhouse effect is
caused by the uncontrolled emission of harmful gases in the atmosphere. The harmful gases are
emitted on a daily basis while carrying out major human activities. Some of the sources of harmful
gases include power plants, industries, vehicles, fossil fuels, etc. ( Global Climate Change: Causes. )

Barbara Ascher s On Compassion
Compassion, though seemingly straight forward, is actually a complex beast, springing from a variety
of sources, including some less than flattering ones. These sources can include pity, fear, and self
advancement, which are rarely associated with something as good as being compassionate. However,
in On Compassion , by Barbara Ascher argues that compassion is something that must be learned
through experience, not something one is born knowing, by giving examples of the actions of those
who have enough towards those who do not, in order to stress the importance of taking note of others
and their situations. Often, people try to avoid those who are less fortunate. People have a tendency to
look away from those who have fallen on hard times, as though they are not even there (Para. 2).
People tend to look away from things that disgust them, pretending they do not exist, and move on
with their lives. In the case of the less fortunate, they do so to protect their world of cocktail party
complaint[s], a world in which they are perpetually victimized by life (12). These people can only see
what they feel is a great injustice done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To see again would be to remind oneself of one s own well being and sanity, which is out of line with
the self centered worldview many cherish (11). To leave this worldview is to accept that others really
are less fortunate, and that one has little to complain about in comparison to these people. It causes
guilt, a feeling most strive to avoid, and forces people to step outside of their comfort zones and into
the real world. Ascher continues by saying we protect ourselves from these people, not physically,
though that does happen, but mentally (11). To let down one s guard, even for a second, and recognize
the less fortunate would be to break down one s self centered fortress, allowing sympathy, and
eventually guilt at one s complacence, to

Essay On Casa Batlló
Casa Batlló is a renowned building located in the center of Barcelona and is one of Antoni Gaudí s
masterpieces.
Casa Batlló, located in the very heart of Passeig de Gràcia.
The building that is now Casa Batlló was built in 1877 by Emilio Sala Cortés, commissioned by Lluís
Sala Sánchez.
The house was bought by Josep Batlló in 1900.
In 1904 Josep Batlló Josep Batlló hired Antoni Gaudí to remodel Casa Batlló and to divide it into
apartments.Gaudi added a fifth floor, completely revamped the interior, depressed the roof, and added
a new facade.
The building was completed and refurbished in 1906.

Typical of Gaudí, straight lines are avoided whenever possible. The first floor features irregularly
sculpted oval windows. Balconies at the lower floors have bone like pillars, those on the upper floors

windows on the first floor gave it another nickname, House of Yawns .
The house s interior is as fascinating as its exterior.

Analysis Of Stability In Motion By Marina Keegan
Stability in Motion is written by a Marina Keegan about her car. While reading this short story, readers
get an insight of what her car means to her. This short story lets readers into the happy and sad times
in the life of Marina Keegan, with the many personal elements and stories that she includes. In
Stability in Motion , Marina Keegan shows her audience that her car is not only her transportation, but
her place of happiness and her best friend.
Marina Keegan s title Stability in Motion is important to the purpose of the story. Stability in Motion
describes her car. Her car is her stability , her rock , the thing that keeps her sane. Her car is also the
motion because she finds her sanity inside of her car while she is driving, or when she is in motion . In
paragraph 12 she says, I talked a lot in my car. Thousands of words and songs and swears are absorbed
in its fabric, her car is her safe place that she can turn to whenever she needs time by herself. The
purpose of Stability in Motion is to show how a relationship with an inanimate object, such as a car,
can help a person through each day. The context of Stability in Motion is very genuine. Marina
Keegan writes as if this story is meant to be kept in private and not for other eyes to see. It is very
personal, as she includes many details about herself. Her reflections show vulnerability, giving readers
an honest view of Marina that is unexpected from a writer. She shows in stories how much her friends
and family members mean to her. In paragraph 11 she says, There was a folder left behind from the
day I drove my dad to an interview the month after he lost his job. It was coincidental that his car was
in the shop, but I knew he felt more pathetic that it was he, not his daughter, in the passenger seat. I
kept my eyes on the road, feeling the confused sadness of a child who catches a parent crying. This is
a sad time in her family s life that she chooses to share with her readers to show how much she cares
and is willing to help her father, even if all she can do to help is to drive him to an interview. One of
the most personal stories she shares is in paragraph 10 when she says, Above this newspaper are the

The Iranian Hostage Crisis
On November 4, 1979 the Iranians had had enough with the United States. Thousands of protesters
gathered around the United States embassy, yelling anti American slogans. At about 10 that morning
approximately three thousand people started to climb over the 10 foot wall that surrounded the
embassy, forcing their way into the chancery building. The guards were ordered not to fire at the
crowd in case it should start a war, but use tear gas. The tear gas was unsuccessful however and the
protesters captured the marine guards, military officials and the embassy workers, totaling 66 men and
women blindfolded and tied up. It was unclear if Khomeini helped plan the hostage crisis, but he did
little to prevent it. Khomeini saw how popular the hostage

Apart from these classic hallmarks, increasing evidence has demonstrated uncontrolled glial activation
and neuroinflammation in AD brain may contribute independently to neural dysfunction and cell death
(Akiyama et al., 2000; Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002). Robust activation of microglia has been found
in and around the area of amyloid plaques in the AD brain, and reactive astrocytes have been shown to
form a halo surrounding the amyloid plaques (Itagaki et al., 1989; Ho et al., 2005). Additionally,
numerous proinflammatory factors have been reported to be elevated in both patients with AD and
transgenic animal models of AD (Griffin et al., 1989; Akiyama et al., 2000; Ruan et al., 2009).
Whether alleviation of neuroinflammation will offer therapeutic benefit for AD remains unclear.
Epidemiological studies show a possible association between suppression of inflammation and
reduced risk for AD (in t Veld et al., 2001; Vlad et al., 2008). Therefore, drugs targeting
neuroinflammation might provide benefits for the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease.
In the central nervous system, microglia and astrocytes are the major type of glial cells, and activation
of these cells has been involved in all neurodegenerative diseases (Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002).
Nevertheless, the diverse physiological functions of glial activation might complicate the

A Debate Between Oedipus and Socrates on the Role of Fate
Background
A very important debate that runs in our society is the role of fate in the life of a person. Many
philosophers have chosen to highlight the importance of fate while many others, especially those with
a scientific bent of mind, have chosen to ignore the role of fate. Many people, especially scientists,
believe that fate is non existent and that a man writes his won destiny. They believe that a man s
industry creates his fate and that there are other forces that determine the progression of his life. They
cite the lives of great men and women, who had defied fate and had made a name for themselves in
the society. They believe that a person must use his skills and his resources and fight against all odds
to become successful in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fate is only an imaginary belief that society and culture has bestowed on us. If we look at the origin of
humans, we cans see that there was nothing like fate. Man lived his life according to instincts and
completed his life cycle as his instincts told him to do so. When culture and civilizations made their
mark in the world, they unfortunately also brought in a lot of limitation that has always strived to hold
us back. Fate is one such belief that seeks to restrain us and keep us tied to what the society needs out
of us.
Oedipus: Sir, I beg to differ. The course of my life will always show you that I have lived all my life in
fear of my fate. At every turn of my life, I have tried to avoid the prophecy that always hung above my
head. For example, I ran away from my foster parents during my childhood years fearing that the
prophecy of killing my father and marrying my mother would become true. And look what happened.
Fate eventually took me to my parents and with the help of my ill fated luck I fought and won against
my own father whom I killed. Worse, fate made me marry my mother and mad me to beget my
children from her. What other than fate could conquer the mighty Oedipus who had the world under
his feet? What would not have I conquered if there was nothing like fate? Why did fate make me
commit the grossest sins in the world? Even after I committed those sins why did fate make those
facts public

Strategic Analysis of Bank Industry
Banking Industry

Banking Industry is the chief indicator of the growth of any country s economy. India with its huge
populations presents a huge scope for banking industry. State Bank of India is a public sector unit and
enjoys the market leader position. HDFC is catching up on the back of its exquisite growth in last
decade. And with the relaxation of government control, private players are in a much better position to
compete. But both the banks have their own problems

Now coming down to specifics, why do we say that the Indian Banking Industry is probably in one of
those interesting times that probably it has never or will never see again? We say so because
competition inadvertently brings out the best in all possible aspects and circumstances. And the
competition that is being unleashed today has never been seen in the past, at least in the Indian
Banking Industry. Now that the Indian Public Sector Banks don t feel the need to hold on to
government s crutches, the sector is slowly but steadily attracting competition. As if the entry of new
and energetic private sector banks was not enough, even the multinational banks are leaving no stone
unturned to ride the Indian growth bandwagon.
In this context, we present the in depth analysis of two banks that best represent the multitude of banks
operating in the Indian banking landscape. The first one is a market leader and it has raised many
eyebrows by slowly transforming itself from a license raj public sector bank to a competitive
behemoth with a social footprint. Yes, there can be adjectives galore for the State Bank of India, for
the sheer grit it has shown in its transformation.
The other bank in our spotlight is the Housing Development Finance Corporation Bank. Under the
tutelage of a true visionary and a banking sector veteran, the HDFC Bank has raised the bar for one

most of these things are true to be associated with this genre of music, there is a completely different

Abstinence Research
During the 20th century, American society faced plights relating to human sexuality like the HIV crisis
(1968) and the enormous teenage pregnancy rate in 1990 s. In this era, technological developments
made in contraception led to colossal advancement in the quest for finding solutions to the previously
mentioned problems. The results of these advancements came in the form of the contraception pill
approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1957 and the development of the latex

There has been much debate about the best method to approach complications related to sexual health.

Pangloss In Candide
Candide by Voltaire is a satirical work in which the author comments on religious and philosophical
beliefs in his day. Voltaire s irreverent narrative found within this book is very telling of his own
philosophical convictions. The main topic under scrutiny in this work is Leibniz s theory of the best of
all possible worlds. In this paper, I will seek to analyze the story of Candide, and more specifically the
character Pangloss, and in doing so examine Voltaire s commentary on the best of all possible worlds.
It seems that the main topic of Voltaire s critique is the Leibniz theory which states that the world we
live in is the best of all possible worlds. This theory is both explained and defended by the character
Pangloss. Pangloss is the tutor of the protagonist, Candide. Early on, Pangloss is identified as a

Transpiration Lab Report
Transpiration with Solanum lycopersicum
Kimberly Smith
Jenna Portier, Aaliyah Hebert, Marie LaSalle, Krystal Bellanger, Thea Martin
September 11, 2017
Biology 156 3T1 Abstract
This lab deals with the transpiration rates in plants, specifically a tomato plant that was used for this
experiment. Transpiration is when water leaves a plant through the stomata as water vapor while the
stomata is capturing CO2 for photosynthesis. This experiment used three different scenarios: a tomato
plant with a light shining on it, a tomato plant with wind blowing on it from a fan, and lastly a tomato
plant with nothing acting on it. The hypothesis is that the rate of transpiration will be fastest with light,
faster with wind, and slow with the control. This hypothesis was rejected because the rate of
transpiration is as follows with the wind having the fastest rate: with light the rate was 7.60 mm/min,
with wind 10.20 mm/min, and control 4.33 mm/min. The cause of the wind having a faster
transpiration rate than the light may have been due to the surface area of the leaves on the tomato
plants. The surface area of the leaves for the wind experiment is 8,124mm2, and for the light is
7,740mm2.By doing this transpiration experiment it helps one to see what happens in plants daily and
understand why it happens. Introduction
What is transpiration? Transpiration is when a plant absorbs water in its roots and the root pressure
becomes high causing the plant to release the excess water as water vapor

How The Mac Is A Medium Access Control Protocol
Introduction : This paper discusses about the S MAC , which is a Medium Access Control Protocol
used in wireless sensor networks . The protocol proposed in the paper is mainly inspired by PAMAS .
The important goals of this protocol is to conserve energy and configure by itself or known as
scalability . It is entirely different from traditional mac protocols like ieee 802.11. The protocol uses
three primary techniques to support energy conserving and self configuration . they periodically sleep
to minimize energy consumption , then formation of virtual clusters by neighbor nodes for auto
synchronization on sleep times and radios are also set to sleep during transmissions of other node .
Then S mac uses message passing and in channel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) periodic listen and sleep : in this the listen time is reduced by letting go the node into periodic sleep
.
a) basis scheme : in this node goes to sleep for a specified time and then wakes up to listen if any node
wants to communicate with it . A timer is set during sleep and the radio of the node is also turned off .
A periodic synchronization is between neighbor nodes for their correct clock timings . Two techniques
are used to synchronization one is timestamps exchanged are relative other than being absolute.
Another technique is listen is period is longer than clock error or drift . To reduce control overhead
neighbor nodes should be preferred to synchronize together . to be noted that all neighboring nodes
cant synchronize together . then all nodes broadcast their schedule to all its immediate neighbors this
for ensuring that all neighbor can talk with different schedule times . If multiple nodes want to talk to
a node , this can be done by contention mechanism using request to send and clear to send packets .
here first come first serve basis , node which send first will grab the medium . here the formation of
nodes are done in flat topology .
b) choosing and maintaining schedules : each node maintains its own schedule table where its
neighbor nodes schedule are stored. First node listens for a particular time , if it is not hearing from
another node it randomnly goes to sleep with broadcasting a SYNC message .

Early Kabbaah Research Paper
The Jewish mystical speculation during the first hundred years of the movement was known by the
Hebrew term Kabbalah, which means, something handed down by tradition. The beginnings of this
movement are usually set in the last decade or two of the twelfth century C.E., and this period of
Kabbalistic incubation is generally thought to end with the composition of the masterful Sef ha Zohar
(The Book of Splendor). Thus, early Kabbalah is the period of Jewish mystical creativity in
Kabbalistic form bracketed by two literary creations of mystical theosophy: the Sef ha Bahir (The
Book of Brilliance) marks the beginning of this stage and the Zohar, written by the Spaniard Kabbalist
Moses de Leon (c. 1240 1305), marks the end.

Only later, and as a result of the contact with medieval Jewish philosophy, the Kabbalah became a
Jewish mystical theology, more or less systematically elaborated. This process brought about a
separation of the mystical, speculative elements from the occult and especially the magical elements, a
divergence that at times was quite distinct but was never total. It is expressed in the separate usage of
the terms Kabbalah iyyunit (speculative Kabbalah) and Kabbalah ma asit (practical Kabbalah), evident
from the beginning of the fourteenth century, which was simply an imitation of Maimonides division
of philosophy into speculative and practical in chapter fourteen of his Millot ha Higgayon. There is no
doubt that some Kabbalistic circles (including those in Jerusalem up to modern times) preserved both
elements in their secret doctrine, which could be acquired by means of revelation of by way of
initiation rites. Once rabbinic Judaism had crystallized in the halakhah, the majority of the creative
forces aroused by new religious stimuli, which neither tended nor had the power to change the
outward form of a firmly established halakhic Judaism, the power to change the outward form of a

Women as Instigators of Tragedy in the Works of Shakespeare
It is the very error of the moon;
She comes more nearer earth than she was wont,
And makes men mad. (Othello 5.2.112 14)
The moon is often seen in literature as an allegory for love, virtue, and chastity. In Shakespeare s
comedies, especially, the moon is personified as Diana, the Roman goddess of chastity. In these
comedies, the foolish antics of lovers (literally, lunatics ) usually occur under the auspices of the
chaste goddess, the lovers behaving like hounds about her feet that snap at each other in competition
for her bounty. The moon as allegory for the lunacy of romance helps us understand Shakespeare s
view of romance. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The finest example can be found in Othello. Iago convinces Othello that Othello is being cuckolded by
his wife, after which Othello questions him, referring to his wife as the moon:
Why, why is this?
Think st thou I ld make a lie of jealousy,
To follow still the changes of the moon
With fresh suspicions? No; to be once in doubt
Is once to be resolved . . . (3.3.190)
The moon/Desdemona is seen as at once chaste and inclined to change. Later, Othello accuses
Desdemona of infidelity despite her protesting innocence. Again, he compares her infidelity with the
moon: What committed!/ Heaven stops the nose at it and the moon winks . . . (4.2.74). The moon,
once chaste, is now flirting. Similarly, Othello believes that Desdemona, once chaste, is cuckolding
him. These two examples show the multiple allegories of the moon that, similarly, exist in women.
The moon also symbolizes the changeability of Fortune. What does the Fortune have to do with the
moon? Shakespeare considered both of them to be much the same. Both have a cyclical nature (hence
the term, Wheel of Fortune ): the moon waxes and wanes just like Fortune waxes and wanes. John
Hankins noted that the traditional Latin scholarship that Shakespeare may have studied (such as
Macrobius who studied the relationship of the celestial bodies to mortals on earth) would have lead to
his understanding

doesn t give power to the local farmers, it just increases the food monopolies held by other

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Terraced Fields
Terraced fields have existed in many ancient human civilizations for thousands of years. They are
ubiquitous; from the Incas to the Chinese, even in Europe, we see terraced fields developed and used
for many purposes. Most terraced fields were constructed for agriculture, but some are developed to
control floods and other purposes.
To this day, we still see some terraced fields around the world, which allows us to admire their natural
beauty. However, while we are admiring the beauty of terraced fields, many seemed to forget to learn
from them in solving our current water problems. Dam constructions have been a controversial one
size fits all solution to many water related problems, yet when I visited Cheng Kung University in
Tainan, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They found that the terraced fields in the Loess Plateau region results in higher soil moisture while
maintaining soil fertility. This means that plants are able to absorb more water from the soil during the
second crop. In the dry West China, such natural water conservation is significant in helping farmers
grow their plants throughout the year. Terraced fields also tremendously reduced erosion in the region.
Comparing the erosion modulus of regular sloped land and terraced land in the region, the erosion
modulus of terraced land is about 1.8% that of the regular sloped land. This means that terraced land
preserved and improved the soil in the region for sustainable agriculture. With better and richer soil,
agriculture production yield increased dramatically, which generated a lot of revenue. Since each step
of terraced fields are shallower than dams, they could also become the habitat of many birds.
According to the definition of wetlands from RAMSAR, any body of water, static or flowing, with
water depth of less than six meters could be considered as wetlands. If we follow this definition, then
technically terraced fields could be considered as a collection of wetlands. Although this definition
would open the door to many legal issues dealing with wetlands, which are beyond the scope of this
paper, it would give reasons to wetland conservationists to support building terraced

How Is Henry Johnson A Hero
When the United States of America joined World War 1 in 1917 the rst of the world had been at war
for three years. The U.S. deployed an estimated 4,355,000 troops to around the world. Around
204,004 of them returned home injured. Henry Johnson was one of those soldiers. Henry Johnson was
born some time during 1891 in Salem, North Carolina. Not much is known about his early life except
that he moved to Albany, New York in his teens. While in Albany he worked many jobs including
chauffeur, soda mixer, laborer in a coal yard, and a redcap porter at Albany s Union Station. He
eventually married a woman named Edna. Henry and Edna had three kids together. When America
joined the war he joined the National Guard. When Henry enlisted he was only 5 foot 4 and 130
pounds. He was put into the 396th Infantry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He and Needham were taken to a French hospital and treated for their wounds. Henry had 21 wound
in his head, foot, back, leg, arm and torso. They were mostly caused by guns, knives and bayonets.
Doctors inserted a steel plate into his left foot. His injuries prevented him from doing hard labor.
Henry was nicknamed The Black Death. The French awarded him with the Croix De Guerre with a
golden palm in 1918. This is France s highest honor. He was promoted to sergeant. Once he got home
in February of 1919 there was in a parade celebrating the Harlem Hellfighters. He stood in the lead car
during the parade. The crowd shouted oh you Black Death. Thousands of people lined up to see the
nearly 3,000 men ride up 5th Avenue. President Theodore Roosevelt said Johnson one of the five
bravest Americans to serve in World War I. He had a hard time finding work due to his injuries. His
wife and children soon left him. He became an alcoholic and died in 1929. His family thought he was
buried at a grave in Albany. His relatives finally found out that he was buried in Arlington National
Cemetery and that there was a giant

Diagnosis Of The Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease
THE HAEMATOLOGICAL PATTERN OF THE PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE
IN A TERTIARY CARE SETUP IN SOUTH INDIA

ABSTRACT
Background: With the incidence and the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) increasing
worldwide and its economic repercussions, a detailed haematological workup of such patients is
necessary to detect the type of anaemia, as there is a general tendency to consider anaemia to be of the
normocytic normochromic type. However in India, a co existing iron deficiency is also common.
Anaemia is an independent risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Materials and Methods: This observational study included 100 patients of chronic kidney disease, who
were included, irrespective of their age, sex, aetiology and their clinical profiles. A thorough clinical
examination and evaluation were conducted, which included serum iron studies. By using Chi square
analysis, the parameters which were used for a statistical correlation were the levels of anaemia with
respect to the stages of the kidney disease, the type and the severity of anaemia, thrombocytopaenia
with the bleeding time, leucocytosis and elevated ESR values.
Results: Although most of the anaemia was of the normocytic type, nearly a third of the patients had
microcytic hypochromic and a mixed type of anaemia. Those with a microcytic hypochromic picture
correlated with a severe degree of anaemia. The elevated Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) levels
were more distributed in the lower levels of the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR). There was no
association between the platelet levels and the bleeding time. The leucocytosis was not necessarily
associated with infections.
Conclusions: It is pertinent to detect and treat subclinical iron deficiency in patients with CKD and to
not over investigate the minor haematological variations.
INTRODUCTION

  • 3. Chronic Myeloid Leukaemi Symptoms And Treatment Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia is a hematopoietic proliferative disorder associated with a specific defect in the gene (Ciesla 2007, pp. 189). The gene defect is caused due to the translocation of the genetic material between chromosome 9 and chromosome 22 (t9: 22). The translocation prompts to the development of a hybrid gene BCR ALB in the Philadelphia chromosome, or Ph1. Therefore, this fusion gene mutation affects the maturation and differentiation of the haematopoietic cells (Ciesla 2007, pp. 189). However the introduction of a BCR ALB particular tyrosine kinase inhibitor, Imatinib has significantly enhanced the survival rate of the patient with chronic myeloid leukaemia (Hochhaus, et al.2015). This essay will briefly describe the diagnosis, treatment and future strategies for chronic myeloid leukaemia. Diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukaemia in most cases is done on the basis of differential blood count characterised by excess granulocytes (neutrophil, eosinophil and basophil) with typical left shift of granulopoesis (Hehlmann et al.2007). Conformation of CML can be done by identifying if there is a presence of Ph chromosome or BCR ALB transcript in the peripheral blood or the bone marrow cells (Hehlmann et al.2007). However, if Ph chromosome is not detected conformation can also be done by either reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) (Hehlmann et al.2007). Rabi season starts after the kharif season and more popularly termed winter crop with plantation in November and harvest in February/March. Cultivation is triggered by the onset of the monsoon. Inputs such as seeds and capital equipment and preparatory farm equipment would be required at the initiation of crop farming. As the crop firms up, farmers would need fertilizers, crop nutrients, and pesticides. Later, farmers would need farmer extension support services, harvesting support, and support in reaching the markets. All these activities require an effective inventory management policy across the supply chain. The players deploy inventory concepts such as cycle inventory, safety inventory, seasonal inventory, and pipeline inventory. Inventory could be in the form of raw material, work in progress, or finished goods. Cycle inventory is the average inventory that builds up within the supply chain, because a supply chain stage either produces or purchases in lots that are larger in volume than the demands of customers. Raw materials, components, and parts are required for production. The cycle plays a crucial role in keeping the production process continuous. • 13. Film Analysis Of The Mise-En-Scene In Film The Mise en scene describes the elements and details in a scene of a film and the way they are shown and arranged. This being said, the lighting, makeup, costumes, setting and props are all key factors of Mise en scene. The setting in a film creates a sense of place, a mood, and may also reflect a character s emotional state. It can be entirely fabricated within a studio just like Rear Window or it may also be found and filmed on location. Perhaps the most easily visible aspect of mise en scene is costume. Costume can include both makeup or wardrobe choices that are used to convey a character s temperament or status, and to suggest these differences between characters. Lighting is a huge part of filmmaking. Lights are what a cinematographer uses to paint a set. They use lighting changes to help define characters, create a setting, or to portray how that character is feeling. In the next few paragraphs, I will point out all the cinimatograpgy of the Mise en scene from the clips from The Godfather and Rear Window. The opening sequence of Rear Window is a curtain raiser... literally. it opens with the camera on the inside of J.B Jefferies(Jeff) s Livingroom in his apartment. The credits are shown on the scene of a window in jeffs apartment, while the blinds on the window behind them are slowly raised. While reading this short story, readers get an insight of what her car means to her. This short story lets readers into the happy and sad times in the life of Marina Keegan, with the many personal elements and stories that she includes. In Stability in Motion , Marina Keegan shows her audience that her car is not only her transportation, but her place of happiness and her best friend. Marina Keegan s title Stability in Motion is important to the purpose of the story. Stability in Motion describes her car. Her car is her stability , her rock , the thing that keeps her sane. Her car is also the motion because she finds her sanity inside of her car while she is driving, or when she is in motion . In paragraph 12 she says, I talked a lot in my car. Thousands of words and songs and swears are absorbed in its fabric, her car is her safe place that she can turn to whenever she needs time by herself. The purpose of Stability in Motion is to show how a relationship with an inanimate object, such as a car, can help a person through each day. The context of Stability in Motion is very genuine. Marina Keegan writes as if this story is meant to be kept in private and not for other eyes to see. It is very personal, as she includes many details about herself. Her reflections show vulnerability, giving readers an honest view of Marina that is unexpected from a writer. She shows in stories how much her friends and family members mean to her. In paragraph 11 she says, There was a folder left behind from the day I drove my dad to an interview the month after he lost his job. It was coincidental that his car was in the shop, but I knew he felt more pathetic that it was he, not his daughter, in the passenger seat. I kept my eyes on the road, feeling the confused sadness of a child who catches a parent crying. This is a sad time in her family s life that she chooses to share with her readers to show how much she cares and is willing to help her father, even if all she can do to help is to drive him to an interview. Abstract Background: In Alzheimer s disease, growing evidence has shown that uncontrolled glial activation and neuroinflammation may contribute independently to neurodegeneration. Antiinflammatory strategies might provide benefits for this devastating disease. The aims of the present study are to address the issue of whether glial activation and proinflammatory cytokine increases could be modulated by quetiapine in vivo and in vitro and to explore the underlying mechanism. Apart from these classic hallmarks, increasing evidence has demonstrated uncontrolled glial activation and neuroinflammation in AD brain may contribute independently to neural dysfunction and cell death (Akiyama et al., 2000; Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002). Robust activation of microglia has been found in and around the area of amyloid plaques in the AD brain, and reactive astrocytes have been shown to form a halo surrounding the amyloid plaques (Itagaki et al., 1989; Ho et al., 2005). Additionally, numerous proinflammatory factors have been reported to be elevated in both patients with AD and transgenic animal models of AD (Griffin et al., 1989; Akiyama et al., 2000; Ruan et al., 2009). Whether alleviation of neuroinflammation will offer therapeutic benefit for AD remains unclear. Epidemiological studies show a possible association between suppression of inflammation and reduced risk for AD (in t Veld et al., 2001; Vlad et al., 2008). Therefore, drugs targeting neuroinflammation might provide benefits for the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease. In the central nervous system, microglia and astrocytes are the major type of glial cells, and activation of these cells has been involved in all neurodegenerative diseases (Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002). • 34. Transpiration Lab Report Transpiration with Solanum lycopersicum Kimberly Smith Jenna Portier, Aaliyah Hebert, Marie LaSalle, Krystal Bellanger, Thea Martin September 11, 2017 Biology 156 3T1 Abstract This lab deals with the transpiration rates in plants, specifically a tomato plant that was used for this experiment. Transpiration is when water leaves a plant through the stomata as water vapor while the stomata is capturing CO2 for photosynthesis. This experiment used three different scenarios: a tomato plant with a light shining on it, a tomato plant with wind blowing on it from a fan, and lastly a tomato plant with nothing acting on it. The hypothesis is that the rate of transpiration will be fastest with light, faster with wind, and slow with the control. This hypothesis was rejected because the rate of transpiration is as follows with the wind having the fastest rate: with light the rate was 7.60 mm/min, with wind 10.20 mm/min, and control 4.33 mm/min. The cause of the wind having a faster transpiration rate than the light may have been due to the surface area of the leaves on the tomato plants. The surface area of the leaves for the wind experiment is 8,124mm2, and for the light is 7,740mm2.By doing this transpiration experiment it helps one to see what happens in plants daily and understand why it happens. Introduction What is transpiration? Transpiration is when a plant absorbs water in its roots and the root pressure becomes high causing the plant to release the excess water as water vapor ... Early Kabbaah Research Paper The Jewish mystical speculation during the first hundred years of the movement was known by the Hebrew term Kabbalah, which means, something handed down by tradition. The beginnings of this movement are usually set in the last decade or two of the twelfth century C.E., and this period of Kabbalistic incubation is generally thought to end with the composition of the masterful Sef ha Zohar (The Book of Splendor). Thus, early Kabbalah is the period of Jewish mystical creativity in Kabbalistic form bracketed by two literary creations of mystical theosophy: the Sef ha Bahir (The Book of Brilliance) marks the beginning of this stage and the Zohar, written by the Spaniard Kabbalist Moses de Leon (c. 1240 1305), marks the end. Women as Instigators of Tragedy in the Works of Shakespeare It is the very error of the moon; She comes more nearer earth than she was wont, And makes men mad. In Shakespeare s comedies, especially, the moon is personified as Diana, the Roman goddess of chastity. In these comedies, the foolish antics of lovers (literally, lunatics ) usually occur under the auspices of the chaste goddess, the lovers behaving like hounds about her feet that snap at each other in competition for her bounty. • 42. Diagnosis Of The Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease THE HAEMATOLOGICAL PATTERN OF THE PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE IN A TERTIARY CARE SETUP IN SOUTH INDIA Dr.S.Palaniandavan** Dr.M.V.Bhargavi*** *Professor and head of the department **Assistant professor General medicine department Sree Balaji medical college and hospital, Chromepet, Chennai. ABSTRACT Background: With the incidence and the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) increasing worldwide and its economic repercussions, a detailed haematological workup of such patients is necessary to detect the type of anaemia, as there is a general tendency to consider anaemia to be of the normocytic normochromic type. However in India, a co existing iron deficiency is also common. Anaemia is an independent risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Materials and Methods: This observational study included 100 patients of chronic kidney disease, who were included, irrespective of their age, sex, aetiology and their clinical profiles. A thorough clinical examination and evaluation were conducted, which included serum iron studies. By using Chi square analysis, the parameters which were used for a statistical correlation were the levels of anaemia with respect to the stages of the kidney disease, the type and the severity of anaemia, thrombocytopaenia with the bleeding time, leucocytosis and elevated ESR values. Results: Although most of the anaemia was of the normocytic type, nearly a third of the patients had microcytic hypochromic and a mixed type of anaemia. Those with a microcytic hypochromic picture correlated with a severe degree of anaemia. The elevated Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) levels were more distributed in the lower levels of the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR). There was no association between the platelet levels and the bleeding time. The leucocytosis was not necessarily associated with infections. Conclusions: It is pertinent to detect and treat subclinical iron deficiency in patients with CKD and to not over investigate the minor haematological variations. INTRODUCTION Chronic renal failure or chronic kidney disease is defined as Kidney damage Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) 60 ml/min/1.73 sq.m For a period of 3 months (As per the National Kidney ...
