Literary Analysis Of Mending Wall By Robert Frost
Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Robert Frost is describing a process in Mending Wall , which is repairing a wall that separates his
territory and his neighbor s. The wall was deteriorated during the winter, when the cold frost
created cracks and gaps in the wall. He uses a nearly infantile imagination to unravel the mystery of
the damage that appeared suddenly in spring. While they are tediously laboring to reconstruct the
fence, Frost is imploring his neighbor about the use of the wall; his apple trees can be clearly
distinguished from his neighbor s pine trees. Yet underneath this quotidian routine, Frost goes
beyond the surface to reveal its figurative meaning.
The poem renders an apparent question: Why do people build unnecessary ... Show more content on

For example, he indicates that the practice of mending the barrier is futile, when he states the
metaphor, Oh, just another kind of outdoor game...it comes to little more. Another metaphor he
used is Spring is the mischief in me. Mischief here does not refer to anything relative to evil, but
to friskiness that attempts to put a notion in his head. Yet this attempt is in unavailing, and the
neighbor continues to repair the wall, and in the simile, Like an old stone savage armed , Frost
attests that his neighbor has the stride and stubborn ignorance of a caveman. He also uses other
devices such as a pun, applied in the line, And to whom I was like to give offence. The last word of
the line simply emphasizes the importance of the subject, the fence. The most prominent figure of
speech, however, is the ironic, Good fences make good neighbors. This is completely opposite of
the connotation of the poem. Fences do not make neighbors, but strangers that are apathetic
towards each other. The neighbor seems to prefer this approach, to eliminate any risks of
trespassing or offenses. Yet what the fence really does is hinder the development of friendship. This
is comparable to the barriers of bitterness, anger, hate, and fear men put between one another that
obstruct love and

Death In The Woods
A Critical Analysis of Death in the Woods Death in the Woods is a story about a woman that
lives a hard life. When she was a girl she worked for a German farmer and his wife. When she was
a little older she married a man named Jake Grimes thinking she would get away from the crude
work of the farmer. She soon finds out that life doesn t get any better for her than it already was.
Later in the story she is found dead by a rabbit hunter in the woods (Cleveland).
Death in the Woods seemingly concerns a farm woman, Mrs.Grimes, who, only in her early
forties, seems old and probably psycotic. She doesn t have a first name in the story, and, indeed,
very little is known about her life at all in the story. It s like no one knows who she ... Show more

A person could then appropriate a single one of these truths and try to go by it. That is when he or
she would become a grotesque. The stories in Winesburg, Ohio do grapple with Anderson s
intended theme, and a story such as Hands clearly illustrates what he means by grotesque (Ellis 2).
The hands belong to Wing Biddlebaum, formerly Adolph Myers, a teacher in a Pennsylvania
village who was beaten and run out of town for caressing boys. Anderson Cleveland 4 is oblique
about Wing s homosexuality, for the thrust of the story. In the story Death in the Woods, as a girl
,
Mrs. Grimes was sexually abused her German owner (Doneskey 1 3).
The Philosopher provides a more subtle illustration of grotesque and introduces the idea that a
grotesque need not be pitiable or tragic; in fact, he can be wildly humorous as demonstrated at the
beginning of the story with the philosopher s description (Doneskey 1 3).
Anderson was interested in the development of the artist type, the inner desires of repressed people,
the failure of people to communicate their true selves; the way conventions and tradition have
twisted and distorted the individual (Doneskey 1 3).
Anderson wrote several versions of the tale before he felt that he had to come close to telling it
adequately, and one of the most narrative devices

TEMPEST Essay
The Other in the Tempest
In order to understand the characters in a play, we have to be able to distinguish what exactly
makes them different. In the case of The Tempest, Caliban, the sub human slave is governed
largely by his senses, making him the animal that he is portrayed to be and Prospero is governed
by sound mind, making him human. Caliban responds to nature as his instinct is to follow it.
Prospero, on the other hand, follows the art of justifiable rule. Even though it is easy to start
assessing The Tempest in view of a colonialist gaze, I have chosen instead to concentrate on
viewing Caliban as the monster he is portrayed to be, due to other characters that are not human, but
are treated in a more humane fashion than Caliban. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
his senses, while Prospero is ruled more by his intellect and self discipline i.e. his mind.
Although we are not given details of Caliban s birth, it seems likely that a creature as subhuman
in appearance as Caliban was not born of a human union. It has been postulated that, to quote
Prospero, he was got by the devil himself upon thy wicked dam, from a union between Sycorax
and an incubus (an extremely attractive male apparition with intention to tempt). Caliban was
therefore a creature born from passion, the offspring of an unholy pleasure. Prospero was not
only of noble birth; he was also born to be ruler of the city state of Milan. Nobility, in Elizabethan
times, carried with it heavy implications: it was expected that Prospero would be intellectually
superior, and that he would exercise as great discipline over himself as he was expected to exercise
over others, in his role of leadership. From their ancestry, Prospero is more ruled by his intellect,
and Caliban by his love of pleasure. Caliban s original love for Prospero and Miranda, and his later
misdemeanour and subsequent hatred for them, illustrate his fundamental reliance on his senses.
Caliban loved Prospero and Miranda because they made much of me ; and his response to this was
purely sensual in his recollections: Thou strok st me,...wouldst give me/Water with berries in t.
What Caliban responded to, more than anything else, was the

Differences Between Lewis And Clark
America doubled in size in 1803 when President Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana
Territory from France for 15 million dollars. Jefferson wanted to discover this land and hoped to
find a water route that would link the pacific ocean with the mississippi river. Jefferson decided
to enlist the help of his personal secretary and soldier, Meriwether Lewis. Lewis knew he couldn t
go on this journey alone and he knew just the man to join him on the journey. William Clark was a
draftsman who possessed knowledge of the outdoors. Among Lewis and Clark, young american
soldiers and french canadian river men were hand picked to tag along with them on their journey.

Animals like bears and snakes were a frequent encounter that would potentially harm the
explorers. The terrain was rugged and not easy to travel on. The men would have to hike
thousands of miles through mountains and rocky hills where they fell constantly, severely
injuring themselves. Since the men did not have a doctor s office nearby, when they got cut
from rocks or other natural dangers, they would have to use anything they could find to help
them. If someone got badly injured and was not able to walk, they would have to be left behind.
The crew later became a walking hospital filled with skin diseases, exhaustion, dysentery,
constipation, fevers, malaria, strained muscles, sore eyes, boils and venereal diseases. On
September 23,1806, after being gone for more than 2 years and traveling more than 8,000 miles
on rugged terrain, Lewis and Clark finally returned to St.Louis. Only one member of the corps of
discovery expedition died. Sergeant Charles Floyd died from appendicitis. Lewis and Clark and
the members of the expedition did not only break limits but set an example for other explorers to

How Did The Spanish Treat The Native Americans
The Spanish reacted peacefully to the lifestyle of the Natives. For example, when they established
their rule in America, they did not destroy and ruin the culture and heritage of the Native
Americas. Also, intermarriages between the Spanish and the Native Americans became very
common since many Spanish conquistadors were males in their 20s. As a result of intermarriage,
a new ethnicity was formed; this ethnicity was called mestizos. Mestizos established a cultural
peace between the Spanish and the Natives. Culturally, the Spanish and the Natives lived in
tranquility. When it came to the economics, the Spanish did not respond so peacefully; they were
acted harshly. Spanish conquistadors originally established their rule in colonial America in
search of gold and silver. Throughout their rule, they have not forgotten their main goal. For
example, the Spanish deprived the Natives of their resources, and forced them into slavery. The
Native Americans were ordered to work in gold and silver mines. Another example of the Spanish
behaving brutally towards the Natives was when Cortez conquered the Aztecs. After he had
besieged their capital city, Cortez had already robbed the Aztec s resources. The Spanish did not
play nicely when it came down to wealth and resources.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, they befriended the Native Americans in order to develop a mutually beneficial
relationship. Another example of this was when the French helped the Natives during battles and
fights with other Native tribes, such as the Iroquois. Although the French was also fighting with the
Iroquois tribes, they still aided the Natives. The French only wanted to share a peaceful relationship

Mesmer s Theory Of Hypnosis
In the the 18th century in Vienna, Austria a man named Franz Anton Mesmer had nearly concluded
his theory in the medical practice of mesmerism of hypnosis. Hypnosis is the practice of using
visual signals that put the subject in a state that lacks mental presence but can still receive and
understand verbal cues. Aside from the comical uses watches were in fact used as well as the use of
abstract patterns of black and white to overstimulate the senses shutting down the independent
functionality of the brain, however the control of the subject requires specific visual and verbal
communications to fix the internal problems from the subconscious. Franz was a type of eccentric

Temperature And Pressure Measurements Of An Ideal Gas
Temperature and Pressure Measurements of an Ideal Gas
That Is Heated in a Closed Container
Introduction
This report discusses an experiment to study the relationship of temperature and pressure of an
ideal gas (air) that was heated in a closed container. Because the ideal gas was in a closed container,
its volume remained constant. The objective of the experiment is to test whether the ideal equation
of state holds. In the equation,
pV = mRT,
where p is the pressure the gas, V is the volume, m is the mass, R is a constant, and T is temperature
. This report presents the procedures for the experiment, the experiment s results, and an analysis of
those results.
Procedures
In this experiment, air (an ideal gas) was heated in a pressure vessel with a volume of 1 liter.
Attached to this pressure vessel was a pressure transducer and thermocouple to measure the
pressure and the temperature, respectively, of the air inside the vessel. Both of these transducers
produced voltage signals (in Volts) that were calibrated to the pressure (kPa) and temperature (K)
of the air (the atmospheric pressure for where the experiment occurred is assumed to be 13.6 psia).
In addition, the theoretical temperature (K) of air was calculated as a function of the measured
pressured values (kPa).
Results and Discussion
This section analyses the results of the experiment. The experiment went as expected with no
unusual events that would have introduced error. The voltages as measured

Why Soccer Is Better Than Other Countries
Waking up early in the morning to go the soccer field and get a whiff of fresh cut grass, paint,
and the unpleasant smell of some soccer socks being put on to be ready for a match. Some
people may have played soccer in their younger days and can understand the enjoyment. Some
people are committed to the sport and others may have played a few years because their parents
made them to. There is nothing wrong with playing soccer, but to know that they were a part of
an amazing experience. This is a very popular sport around to world and is called football to other
countries, but is called soccer in the United States. A lot of differences in how people in America

Many people enjoy the game of soccer whether they are playing or just watching. There are many
competitions and other platforms to watch a decent soccer match. Competitions like the Champions
League, Euros, Copa America, Gold Cup, etc. Many fans tuned in to watch the 2014 FIFA World
Cup in Brazil. Fans from all over the world tune in to witness the greatest tournament to be
competed at a high level. The entire World Cup reached 3.2 billion viewers, and the final game
had around one million viewers watching live (2014 FIFA World Cup, 2015). Others enjoy to play
the sport as well. People enjoy the game of soccer whether it is playing for fun or competing in
the World Cup. Fans that play want to imitate their favorite players moves. Children watching
the pros work their magic during the World Cup, doing fancy tricks or scoring crazy goals
makes kids go out with a ball and copy what they saw. Players like Ronaldo and Messi do things
that make child look up to them. A study from a survey conducted by FIFA in 2007 found that
265 million people are playing soccer (Kunz, 2007). Players play to sometimes relieve themselves
from a tense situation in the real world. So, as they play, they seem to escape in a different reality

Hero In The Messenger
Task 1
Question 3: To what extent do you deem Ed to be a typical hero?
The Messenger by Markus Zusak is full of unconventional ideas and theories, one of which being a
challenge to the typical hero we see in most texts while still staying conventional. Zusak attempted
to differentiate from other novels through the main character, Ed Kennedy, using a slightly atypical
attitude and personality to the classic hero we are accustomed to without becoming overly
eccentric. There is a distinct similarity between Ed and the typical hero while still managing to
create a unique character. Some ideas and qualities that Ed has that adheres to the classic hero

exactly what Ed does, be it a complete stranger or one of his closest friends. He puts his life on
the line, gives up his money, time and attention all for the sake of others. He isn t required to do
this, he chooses to he thinks of others wellbeing s before his own. For example, on the
assignment with Milla he gives his time to be with her and comfort her, with the Tatupu family
and Father O Reilly he spends his own money to give them something to make them joyous and

Controversial Hunting
What goes through the minds of people when they think about trophy hunting? Hunting is the act of
pursuing and killing live animals for food, recreation, or trade. Early human civilizations relied on
hunting for subsistence. As humans and civilizations evolved, so did hunting. Hunting became a
sport rather than a necessity. People who are for huntingclaim that it helps control wildlife
populations, whereas people against it believe that trophy hunting will lead to the extinction of
certain animals. This paper will examine viewpoint one, two, and my viewpoint on trophy hunting
being banned or not.
To begin with, viewpoint one believes trophy hunting serves no purpose and is contributing to the
eradication of species. For starters, grizzly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, trophy hunting could harm the environment and the entire species of the animal killed.
Firstly, grizzly bears help the environment and other animals in the rainforest. For example, David
Suzuki talks about how grizzlies bring salmon, along with nutrients from the ocean in the salmon,
into the rainforest. This leaves the carcass of the salmon for other animals and the nutrients in the
salmon for the fertilization of the rainforest (Suzuki). Therefore, trophy hunting grizzlies harms
more than just the one bear the hunter killed. Secondly, illegal markets caused a rise in hunting,
leading to more animals being killed to be sold. For instance, Richard Emslie and Michael Knight
report that pseudo hunters would get permits to hunt rhinos and sell their horns. This caused a
temporary peak in hunting applications (Emslie). Therefore, the hunting of animals caused illegal
markets to pop up, in which caused more people to hunt. Thirdly, some animals are already facing
threats without hunters. To illustrate, Suzuki, talking about grizzly bears, says they already face
threats from habitat loss, damage and fragmentation; cascading effects of salmon collapse and
climate change; and death from poaching. Hence, hunting only furthers problems animals have. For
all these reasons, trophy hunting is harming the environment and other animals, plus the ones they

The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment In Western Europe
The Age of Enlightenment saw many great changes in Western Europe. It was an age of reason and
philosophes. During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took
place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the
Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming
amount of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of
change specifically change which went against the previous teachings of the Catholic Church. Such
change is apparent in the ideas, questions, and philosophies of the time, in the study of science, and
throughout the monarchial system. Previously, the Catholic Church had professed to the entire
medieval world that faith in God was absolute. Indeed, the medieval world was truly an age of
faith. As such, ideas that went against the teachings of God were ignored and their preachers
subsequently murdered. After the Crusades brought back old Aristotelian learning from the middle
east, all this changed. Advances in Geography were made with the introduction of Ptolemaic
Geography. More importantly than the rediscovery of ancient geography was the beginning of
skepticism in Western Europe. No longer would the Church s word be taken on faith. The idea that
the physical world could be understood through the use of empiricism analytical thought was also
introduced. RenГ© Descartes even began to doubt his own existence

The Screwtape Letters By Byc.s Lewis

Midterm Paper I chose to do my research and reading on The Screwtape Letters written by C.S
Lewis, which is a novel written in unique perspective of a Senior Devil named Screwtape who
writes thirty one letters to his nephew Wormwood who can be considered somewhat of a novice
devil or demon of some sort. In these letters, as readers, we find that they are undated and that they
are meant to offer advice to his younger demon nephew as he attempts to steal the soul of a human,
referred to as the patient . We are first introduced to the concept of the patient rather than the human
when Screwtape explains to Wormwoodabout one of his first experiences with one. In his first
letter, Screwtape explains that the best way to lose the human is if the human somehow decides to
use reason because at that point, his reason will take him to God. He does this by teaching his
nephew that, Your business is to fix his attention on the stream. Teach him to call it real life and don
t let him ask what he means by real (2). Ironically, the devil s resort to calling God, the Enemy . We
are first introduced to this idea in the introduction on the first letter when Screwtape states that The
trouble about argument is that it moves the whole struggle on to the Enemy s ground (2).

The Tuskegee Syphilis Study was an unethical prospective study based on the differences between

little knowledge of the study or the disease by participants, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study can be

In Macon County, Alabama, about 40% of African Americans had syphilis. Syphilis caused by a

organ systems of the individual. The victim may become paralyzed, blind and/or deaf; develop
heart problems or a mental illness, or other symptoms (Gray 37 38). They decided that they wanted
to compare and contrast how blacks and whites develop the disease and the effects on each race.
Years before the study of the Negro was set to begin, a similar study for whites was conducted in

The retrospective study used case histories of those who had syphilis when they died not living

Investigate the Rate of Osmosis in Different Vegetables (Carrot, Potato,
Swede, Parsnip and Sweet Potato)
In this coursework experiment I plan to find the rate of osmosis in different vegetables (Carrot,
Potato, Swede, Parsnip and Sweet
Potato). I will measure the mass before and after the experiment to use the results to calculate the
rate of osmosis, and to find trends in the vegetables.
To ensure the experiment is fair, I will control all the other variables (Temperature, size of chip at
5cm x 1cm, concentration of solution at 0.2M etc.). I will repeat the experiment, and obtain
averages for the change in mass. This allows a more accurate analysis to be obtained. Finally I
will keep all the vegetables in the solutions for 1 hour, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will also obtain % change and place this in a bar chart. I researched the sugar content of my
selected vegetables using the
Internet, and I found that:
В· Parsnip 9mg/100g
В· Potato 7.7mg/100g
В· Swede 7.2mg/100g
В· Sweet Potato 7.7mg/100mg
В· Carrot 6.8mg/100g
When I have the results, these figures should allow me to prove and support my conclusions, or
show the lack of accuracy and fault in my experiment. Results table for mass change:

Exp. 1 mass before (g) Swede
Exp. 1 mass after (g) Sweet Potato
Exp. 2 mass before (g) Carrot
Exp. 2 mass after (g) Parsnip
Vegetable Potato
Exp. 1 mass change (g) Swede
Exp. 2 mass change (g) Sweet Potato
Average mass change (g) Carrot Parsnip
Results table for percentage change:
Vegetable Potato
Percentage change in Exp. 1 (%) Swede
Percentage change in Exp. 2 (%) Sweet Potato
Average percentage change (%) Carrot Parsnip
В· I will put the results into bar and/or pie charts in my analysis.
I know that osmosis will occur in the vegetables, but I am not sure of the exact amount that will
take place. There will be a 0.2M

Unexpectful Aspects In William Shakespeare s The Tempest
Unexpected discoveries have a profound impact on individuals, changing their perception of
themselves, others, their worlds and the current situation. As said by the scientist, Albert Szent
Gyorgi, unexpected discoveries are often made by looking at the same thing as everyone else and
thinking something different and are provoked by curiosity and wonder. Unexpected discoveries
with profound impacts are evident in William Shakespeares tragicomic play, The Tempest(1610)
where the dethroned duke of Milan plots revenge against his enemies, but unexpectedly finds
forgiveness. Likewise, in William Golding s survival novel, Lord of the Flies (1954), features a
group of British schoolboys who crash land into an island and have to govern themselves.
Unexpectedly, some of the boys question the whole notion of civilisation.
After a period of isolation, human contact may lead to profound and unexpected discoveries.
Shakespeare s characterisation of Miranda as a naive girl creates a profound impact when Miranda
uses antithesis to describe her discovery of humankind: I might call him a divine, for nothing
natural I ever saw so noble , this discovery opens up a whole new world for Miranda as she falls in
love with Ferdinand. Prospero disapproves of Miranda s affection towards Ferdinand: What I
say? My foot my tutor? Prospero s verbal irony highlights the control that he has over Miranda and
her perception of the world as her father and tutor. However, Miranda s use of a

Three Branches Of The Constitution
In 1787, 55 delegates met in Philadelphia to write the Constitution; this meeting came to be known
as the Constitutional Convention. The attendees of the convention had originally believed that the
meeting was arranged to revise the Articles of Confederation, but James Madison and the other
Federalists had an alternative motive. The purpose of the Constitutional Convention was to
eradicate the Articles of Confederationand to construct an entirely new document altogether, this
Constitution would form a strong central government and invest the power equally among the
states. The colonists were hesitant to the idea because of their past experience with King George
the Third, and in turn they presented a question how could the document guard... Show more

Each of these branches control a different aspect of government and they are each controlled by
a different group of people. James Madison believed that if one individual or small group held
possession or control of all three branches, then he would consider that to be a tyrannical
situation a limit of citizen rights, voice, and freedom. Each branch holds a different role that
affects a certain situation pertaining to which process of law development their responsibility is,
as long as each branch is separated and distinct there will be liberty and rights for people. There
has to many contributors of government that have different views and different ideas in order to
achieve a tyranny free society (James Madison, Federalist Paper #47, 1788). The Legislative
Branch is controlled by the Congress of the United States of America, which consists of the Senate
and the House of Representatives. The Legislative Branch is in charge of making new laws or
changing the existing ones. The Executive Branch is led by the President of the United States, their
main power is having the ability to veto or reject a proposal for a law. The Judicial Branch
consists of the Supreme Court and inferior courts. The Judicial Branch is given the responsibility
to interpret laws (Constitution of the United States of America, 1787). Based on judgement of
James Madison s beliefs and views on the Separation of Powers and the system of Checks and
Balances, if an individual was a member of both Congress and the Supreme Court Madison
would believe that they held too much power in the government and see it as a violation of
federalism. James believed that each branch should be separate and distinct and when you have a
crossing or correspondence with the both of them, there is a decrease in a diversity of views and

Literary Devices In Angela s Ashes
Angela s Ashes is a remarkable memoir in which the author, Frank McCourt, uses an abundance of
literary devices to convey the depressing story of his Irish Catholic childhood. Through his
themes, contrasts, and symbolism, McCourt creates a memoir that remains with the reader and
teaches us all about the circumstances of life that he faced growing up in Limerick, Ireland. The
title of the book is derived from the ashes that fall from Angela s cigarettes and those in the
fireplace that she stares at bleakly. The entire setting of the narrative feels weak, and lifeless.
Angela s ashesalso represent her crumbling hopes. Her dreams of raising a healthy family with a
supportive husband have withered and collapsed, leaving her only with cigarettes

Search Warrant Essay
Some information that we found was that if the police suspects that home holds marijuana, then
they must first get hold of a search warrant under the Fourth Amendment, if not then the police
officers must prove exigent circumstances such as destruction of evidence, hot pursuit, or some
other exception that applies. But the number one guaranteed way for this to go smoothly is to get a
search warrant by a judge. With that being said the policeofficers could demand and require what
they need from and what they can get from the search warrant. But in order to get a search warrant,
the police officers must provide that they have probable cause that there is marijuana in the house.
Even though the Fourth Amendment protects a man s home, neither... Show more content on

Some interesting facts that I have found was when current technology has given police officers
a new way on searching humans, buildings, homes and even vehicles. Now marijuana is
generally cultivated with a lot of high intensity lamps; the police officers can now conduct an
infrared scan that creates thermal images of the outside of the homes. With that being said they
can measure the heat originating from the inside of the house. An example of this new
technology would be the case of Kyllo v. United States, 533 U.S. 27 (2001), basically saying that
the police collected info from the ultraviolet scan was used and can be used with other evidence
to create probable cause for a search warrant. Within the case of Kyllo, the proof that was acquired
from the search warrant was in fact used against Kyllo at his trial for developing marijuana and the
court of appeals confirmed the verdict but the Supreme Court of the United States revered the

В¬an Inevitable Consequence of Economic Growth Is...
An inevitable consequence of economic growth is increasing inequality. Do you agree or disagree
with the assertion?
In the world we live in today, it is quite obvious to see that inequality is a growing consequence of
economic growth. In this essay I will discuss how inequality affects states and the individuals
living in the state. There are increased demands for educated workers; dependence of technology;
privatization of markets; and the rise of capitalism which have led people to have drastic
socioeconomic differences in wealth and lifestyle.
Inequality in the economic sense is the difference in distribution of wealth and income between the
people of a population, or even the difference in wealth between states. Though it is an ... Show

Inequality is also abundant in countries that are not integrated into global markets. It is clear to see
that, developing countries that have been open to trade have had the fastest growth, reducing global
inequality (Birdsall, 84), but what about the countries that have not been able to adapt and join
commercial links to the outside world? African countries have always remained the poorest
economically, as they do not have the means to produce and export goods to countries around the
world. These countries vastly differ from those such as Japan who sought out economic relations in
other countries through technology licensing, and openness to foreign investment (Birdsall, 84).
This widespread development is happening all across Asia, especially in China and India.
Although these two countries have surpassed the development speed of developed first world
countries over the past 15 years, it would take them almost a century of constant growth at rates
higher than those in today s industrialized countries (Birdsall, 80) to even be at par with the current
level of income in the United States.
Another inequality of economic growth stems from the rapid increase in technology and the lack
of qualified or educated employees to fill these positions. The invention of the computer was one
the most life changing developments ever to hit the world as it improved processes,

Legacy Admission Should Not Be Allowed Since World War I
Legacy Admission As Peter Schmidt of the chronicle says, legacies originated after World War I to
support the immigrant students, particularly Jews. When it became harder to control Jewish
enrollment, in 1920 s most respected universities such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton considered
legacy status. Since then it has raised the concerns for lower class families who did not attend
good universities and their children wanted to attend but ended up not getting admission. In 2003,
Senator Edward Kennedy sought legislation to compel colleges to make public their data on
legacy admissions. It didn t pass due to higher education s powerful lobbying. Legacy admission...

It shows how ivy colleges prefer legacy admissions. Although it is not illegal, but recently two legal
theories are offered under which legacy preferences could be challenged at both public and private
institutions under the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause (Ladeswki 578). The civil
act of 1866 prevents the states from giving titles of nobility. Minorities since most of elite university
s alumni belong to upper class families. Americans are concerned about such type of practices as it
creates doubt about institution s commitment to meritocracy and equal opportunity (Mullen 47). On
the contrary, three out of four Americans oppose ancestry based discriminationso they can create
equal opportunities for lower class families to get into elite colleges. According to Mullen
research shows that a candidate has a 30% chance of admission, an applicant with the exact same
academic record and extracurricular activities, but also a parent who attended the school as an
undergraduate would have 75% chance. This shows that due to legacy admission, there s less
academic competition. Moreover, many colleges claim that legacy status is just use as a tie
breaker in a very close admission call. However, according to the book affirmative action for the
rich informs that the weight of legacy preference is noteworthy, adding 160 points to candidate s
record. Samuel G.

Nazi Germany And The World War II
The year was 1941 and World War II had been going on for two years since it started in 1939.
Nazi Germany had gained much territory and controlled over three fourths of Europe. The only
countries not conquered controlled or allied with Germany in Europe were Sweden, Switzerland,
Russia and England. Both Sweden and Switzerland were neutral during the war, so the two biggest
threats to Germany was England and Russia. (Patrick Shrier 08/06/2006)
On June 22, 1941 the third reich (Nazi Germany) invaded Russia in an attempt crush the nation
and the Red Army. Hitler had been planning the invasion at the since 1940 because Russia
rejected to be a part of Tripartie, which was supposed to be an alliance between Germany, Italy,
Japan and Russia. Hitler wanted the best conditions for his army to succeed the invasion. He
originally planned on the invasion taking place late April or early may, because that was when the
spring thaw was over and the ground was dry enough for his tanks to move without getting stuck in
the muddy terrain. (Patrick Shrier 08/06/2006)
Russia was a major superpower during World War 2 because of its size and the raw materials
that had major impact on the war. If Germany conquered and took control of Russia it would
drastically change the war and the outcome of it. If Germany would have conquered Russia they
would have access to all of the raw materials and they would be able to enter countries all over
Europe and even Asia.

Recommendation Report
CPU for College Student Computer Build
EGR 3350 06
10/15/2014
Brian Luttmer
Wright State University
Introduction:
Purpose:
The purpose of this report is to recommend an affordable and powerful CPU for a college student
not knowledgeable in computer hardware, but wants a new PC.
Problem:
Computers are an important tool that many students use during college to accomplish tasks for
classes. Laptops are commonly used around campuses; however, they don t always prove to be
strong enough to complete all the tasks that college students would like to run. When a laptop isn t
large enough to run all the software a student would like, a desktop computer comes next in
power. A desktop computer is capable of more customization to fit the needs of a person with its
performance and visuals. Most colleges offer desktop computers that can run advanced programs,
however it is not always convenient to a college student to have to go onto campus to use this
software. This is why it is more suitable for college students to have their own desktop PC at home.
When building a pc, one needs to consider what they are going to use the PC for. For a college
student, some uses of a desktop pc could consist of gaming, video editing, and running software.
All three of these rely on each part of the computer to perform the task. One component used
heavily in all three of the tasks is the CPU (Central Processing Unit). The CPU is a piece of
computer hardware that

Does The Otl Mathematics Instruction For Conceptual...
Does the OTL Mathematics Instruction for Conceptual Understanding Matter?
Some studies have shown that preservice teachers and in service elementary teachers have
knowledge gaps in their mathematics content and pedagogical content knowledge (e.g., Ball, 1990;
Ma, 1999). The knowledge that teachers have for teaching influence their instruction and the lack of
such can limit how they teach mathematics for understanding (Borko Putnam, 1996). For this
reason, teacher preparation programs and professional development forums should emphasize and
provide the opportunities for learning to teach mathematics for conceptual understanding. Not only
do such opportunities build on preservice teachers mathematics content knowledge, but they also
introduce them to the new ways of teaching mathematics that they may not have experienced in
their earlier mathematics learning.
The findings from this study suggest that frequent experiences in learning mathematics for
conceptual understanding through particular strategies is related to an increase in PSTs knowledge
about teaching mathematics. In particular, more opportunities that allow PSTs to learn to show
why a procedure works was significantly related to the average PSTs increase in content knowledge
between the teacher preparation programs in the United States. Similarly, within the Polish
generalist, United States specialist, and Russian teacher preparation programs the relationships
between the OTL to show why procedures work and

Should they continue using Heavey?:
The major reasons to stay with Heavey would be that they have developed a relationship by
working together with CJI for a long time. CJI always counted on Heavey to deliver their high
quality pumps on time and the relationship was so convenient that in fact CJI didn t even
consider the pumps being an issue when they signed their contract with Great Lakes.
Unfortunately, since Heavey is a small local company, CJI originally ignored that Heavey would
have to expand their production capabilities. It seems like a lot to ask and expect from Heavey,
and since there is no formal contract between them, it seems the most likely scenario is that CJI
will either discontinue doing business with Heavey, or form some kind of partnership with them.
They cannot however, solely rely on Heavey for pumps as they currently are, because it would
almost guarantee them to fail their obligations to Great Lakes.
Also, CJI likely does not receive much of a benefit (regarding cost savings) from Heavey utilizing
economies of scale because they are very small company that produces products in batches.
Additionally, while CJI has been able to rely on Heavey s expertise and product quality with
regards to producing pumps, contracting their pump manufacturing has been a short term strategy
so far and with their increased production it will begin to cost

Pluto Should Be Promoted From Pluto s Original Planet Status
Outer space is a realm of new discoveries and possibilities. There is one particular planet in our
solar system that is brimming with these possibilities. However, for nine years it has not actually
been considered a planet. The dwarf planet , Pluto, has been overlooked and misrepresented in
astronomy and planetary science. Since being demoted from planetstatus to dwarf planetstatus, little
Plutohas raised some big questions about what defines a planet and what does not. In this paper,
I will attempt to persuade you that Pluto should be promoted back to its original planet status.
First, I will give you a brief history of Pluto, from its discovery to what prompted its
reclassification. Next, I will explain the definition of a planet as given by the International
Astronomical Union (IAU) and the definition s flaws. Finally, I will discuss the recent discoveries
of the New Horizons mission and how these new discoveries should lead to the reclassification of
Pluto to its original planet status.
History of Pluto
Pluto was discovered in 1930 by Clyde W. Tombaugh and was reclassified as a dwarf planet in
2006. This means that for almost eighty years, all of mankind knew that Pluto was a planet. The
real trouble for Pluto came in 1992 when David Jewitt and Jane Luu discovered the first celestial
objects in a region now called the Kuiper Belt (Weintraub, 2015). Pluto is considered one of the
largest celestial objects in the belt (Redd, 2012). However, there are some objects in

Hotel rooms that go unoccupied for the evening cannot be stored and used it at a later date
*Caused the reverse to occur where the demand is greater than supply. E.g. Airline does not have
enough seats for everyone
Contrast
*Products can be mass produced and stored in the warehouses until consumer are ready to purchase
*The ability not creates an inventory of the good that will eventually be purchased by the
consumer means that production and consumption of the good can be separated in time and
space. E.g., in the case of a pair of jeans does not sell today, a retailer can store it and sell it at a
later time
Hybrid Offer
*In a fast food restaurant, they can inventory part of their service process example, inventory
hamburgers for a limited period of time
*However, the outlet cannot inventory the entire service experience, the counter staff still need to
serve the customers with the hamburgers and the hamburgers cannot be saved for the next day
*To reduce perishability, the airline must develop strategies to cope with fluctuating demand. This
goal can be accomplished by making simultaneous adjustments in demand, supply and capacity
*One method of adjusting the demand is that the airline company can reduce the price or offer
promotions during the low peak season to attract

mother to not go far into the forest, she went against her mother s wishes and went exploring
anyway. Proserpina was trembling with fear, her hands trembling like an anxious boy trying to go
to sleep on Christmas Eve. She was running and tumbling over branches and tree roots until all of a
sudden, she finds herself locking her eyes onto a beautiful and enticing little plant. She decided to
uproot it from the ground and take it back to her mother. Proserpina was unaware that in uprooting
the plant from the ground, she would be causing an opening that would lead to Pluto, the God of the
underworld, and his castle. Pluto tried enticing her to him, but once he sensed her rejection and lack
of cooperation he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the way to his castle, Pluto tried easing Proserpina s concerns about her safety, and he offered
her something to quench her thirst from the magical torrent. Proserpina refused, but she knew
Pluto would still try to deceive her into drinking some, so she promised herself she would not
consume or imbibe one bit of anything while she was in his custody. Before too long, Proserpina
saw the castle for the first time. The castle was the color of cement blocks gray and gloomy. It
had a gothic type of structure, with huge gargoyles perched on each corner of the roof. The entry
door contained big, brass knockers in the shape of a lion s face. If you look past the gargoyles on
the roof, you can see that the castle has several towers. The sides of the castle contained small,
little windows with bars on them that continue all the way to the grass on the ground. The castle
permeated off a feeling of tension and fright. It was apparent that the surroundings of the castle
were intended to make the castle seem attractive with a small playground on the side of the

What s the purpose of live roulette
The purpose is, of course, to imitate the true online roulette experience with real dealers who

Case Study Of Steven M. Labrie s Vacation For Attorneys
RESPONDENT TEAMSTERS LOCAL 251 OBJECTION TO PETITION FOR ATTORNEYS
FEES This matter is before the Court on a Petition Steven M. Labrie for attorney s fees
associated with his appeal from a decision from the Department of Labor and Training [ DLT ].
For the reasons set forth below, Labrie is not entitled to attorney s fees for services rendered on
appeal. Alternatively, in the event that attorney s fees are allowable, they are within the
jurisdiction of the Director of the Department of Labor and Training rather than the Superior
Court. 1.On October 1, 2015, the DLT determined that Labrie was entitled to vacation pay for
2013, but not for vacation pay for 2008 through 2012. Labrie appealed pursuant to G.L. В§42 35
15, the Administrative Procedures Act. 2.On January 12, 2017, this Court reversed pertinent
portions of the DLT decision. 3.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Labrie s reliance on G.L. В§28 14 19(c) for an award of further attorney s fees is without merit.
That section specifically provides that the DLT director may direct payment of reasonable
attorney s fees and costs to the complaining party. Thus, an award of attorney s fees is
discretionary within the jurisdiction of the DLT, rather than this court. 4.The Administrative
Procedures Act, G.L. В§42 35 15, on which Labrie relied on in connection with his appeal,
contains no provision for an award of attorney s fees to a prevailing party. In addition, Rhode
Island follows the American rule which bars an award of attorney s fees in the absence of statutory
authority. As the Supreme court noted in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island v. Najarian,
attorney s fees may not be appropriately awarded to the prevailing party absent contractual or
statutory authorization. 911 A.2nd 706, 710

of illness and disease and nutritionplays a huge part in this process. Nutrition is important in all

is arguably one of the most important phase in life, simply because a new human is being created.
It is important to start life off right and that can be achieved with proper nutrition.
Before a woman becomes pregnant, it is important to receive adequate nutrition. According to the
Maternal and Child Health journal, in order to ensure woman receive adequate nutrition advice in
time to make informed decisions regarding pregnancy, there needs to be further exploration into
effective nutrition education during preconception (Lucas, 2014). They also mention that nutrition
information received at 12 weeks is too late to be useful. Therefore, there are several factors to
consider even before conception. To start off, there are many deficiency problems that can arise
early in pregnancy and this can be prevented by receiving the adequate levels of folate the body
needs to support the

Reasons Why The North Won The Civil War
The Union won the American Civil War and reunited the country for several different reasons that
changed over time. The North had advantages and successes that ebbed and flowed throughout the
course of the war, while the South continued to make the same mistakes. A combination of Union
success and Confederate failures ended the war in favor of the North and without one of them; it is
hard to judge the outcome of the war. At the start of the war, the Union had a clear advantage in
manpower and resources, which lasted throughout the war. When the Confederacy broke away, they
consisted of eleven states compared to twenty three of the Union. Consequently, the North had a
population of twenty three million while the South only had nine million, three and a half million
of which were enslaved blacks. To combat this, the Confederates had to mobilize a massive
proportion of its population. A whopping eighty percent of military age white men had to enlist.
The South only produced seven percent of all manufactured goods when the war broke out.... Show

Davis was very impatient with those who disagreed with him and granted favors to generals who
best fit his agenda. On the other hand, Lincoln had no issue with replacing Generals to great effect.
After the Battle of Antietam, Union General George McClellan had the opportunity to crush the
Confederate s military. Instead, he remained immobile to recuperate his troops. Furious, President
Lincoln sent a letter the McClellan, telling that I have just read your dispatch about sore tongued
and fatigued horses. Will you pardon me for asking what the horses of your army have done since
the battle of Antietam that fatigue anything? The commander was promptly sacked and replaced
with a more competent leader, something the South struggled to

Spatial Rhythm and Poetic Invention in William Carlos...
William Carlos Williams was fascinated by the ways in which living organisms and inert matter
occupy space how they move in it, or cannot move, are cramped or allowed to roam freely and
how the space inside organisms and matter is charted, perceived, and manipulated. Williams s
preoccupation with actual space in the material world is paralleled by his formal experimentations
with the placement of words on the page. Without invention nothing is well spaced (P 50), Williams
writes at the beginning of Sundayin the Park, raising the question, what does well spaced mean for
Williams? How can the world and how can poetry be well spaced? The aim of this paper is to look
at the relationship between Williams s use of what I will call... Show more content on

In the opening lines of Sunday in the Park, Dr. P. s walk through the park becomes a metaphor not
only for sexual intercourse but for poetic production:
Outside outside myself there is a world, he rumbled, subject to my incursions

(to me) at rest, which I approach concretely The scene s the Park upon the rock, female to the city
upon whose body Paterson instructs his thoughts
The link between walking, coitus, and creativity is part of a larger framework in Sunday in which
biological processes and various kinds of movement through space what I am calling spatial
rhythms are used to explore the nature of poetry.
One only has to look at the configuration of words on the page to know that for Williams well
spaced involves not regularity but constant change and surprise. Williams s manipulation of space,
both on the page and in the Park, is, in this section of Paterson, the main tool used to create the
structure that M. L. Rosenthal and Sally Gall have described as characteristic of the modern poetic
sequence, a structure that is not predominantly narrative or dramatic, but lyrical, a progression of
specific qualities and intensities. [1] This rhythm corresponds to a cyclicity of mood that can be
described as manic depresive or, to use Rosenthal s and Gall s term, cyclothymic.[2] Corresponding
to this constantly changing tone is a space that is

Harry Potter And The Chronicles Of Narnia
Growing up everyone is forced to read. First, children start by being read to by their parents and
then slowly over time and learning, read for themselves. Children usually at this point either quit
reading all together or continue to endure and learn into classical readings such as: Harry Potter,
or The Chronicles of Narnia. Kids who go through school are forced to read to increase their
comprehension skills, and the ones who read on their own outside of school as well, usually
have an increased score than others. Mostly people who do not read on their own have trouble
connecting with the books or reading that they try. They seem to not be able to stay focused on
the book, and easily become distracted with other things. Growing up I was a kid like this. I still
to this day struggle with not becoming distracted with other things while I am trying to read. I
always start with good intentions and then halfway down any certain page, I find myself
daydreaming about something random like what I had for dinner the night before. I always had this
problem, until now. During this summer literature course I have had a new inspiration for reading.
From the first short storywe read, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, to the last I
was surprised how interested I was in the stories. I didn t find myself daydreaming in the middle of
these stories, and instead, I was focused and intrigued on how it would end. Although many stories
spoke to me during my time in this class,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Indian Marketing Mix
In the marketing mix we chose local responsiveness and local responsiveness is when there are
differences between countries in the structure of market segments, a unique marketing mix to
appeal to a certain segment in a given country may be necessary. And we chose it because in
India they need low price products with low quality, the people in India wants specific products
and it s different than what the other countries needs. Product attributes The attributes have to be
the same as what they need and it has to match their culture, level of economic development and
product and technical standards. In tradition we should have their traditional clothes and
accessories, in their population they have big percentage of young people and it will be easy for
us to be popular between the youngsters because most of the young people know how to use the
Internet, there are 22 languages and a lot of religions in India and we will make all the languages...

The advantages of exporting is to avoid the costs of establishing local manufacturing operations
but in our case we want to have our own stores in the country because it will make it easier for us
to transport our products from our stores to the customers, the second advantage of exporting is that
it helps the firm achieve experience effects and location economies and the last advantage is that it
has control over manufacturing quality. One disadvantage of exporting is that there may be lower
cost manufacturing locations; this will not affect us as souq.com because we don t manufacture our
own products. Another disadvantage of the exporting entry mode is high transport costs and tariffs,
this also will not effect us because we are planning to have stores in India not exporting from
another places. The last disadvantage is that a foreign country agent may not act in exporter s best
interest. Turnkey

  • 2. Literary Analysis Of Mending Wall By Robert Frost Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost Robert Frost is describing a process in Mending Wall , which is repairing a wall that separates his territory and his neighbor s. The wall was deteriorated during the winter, when the cold frost created cracks and gaps in the wall. He uses a nearly infantile imagination to unravel the mystery of the damage that appeared suddenly in spring. While they are tediously laboring to reconstruct the fence, Frost is imploring his neighbor about the use of the wall; his apple trees can be clearly distinguished from his neighbor s pine trees. Yet underneath this quotidian routine, Frost goes beyond the surface to reveal its figurative meaning. The poem renders an apparent question: Why do people build unnecessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, he indicates that the practice of mending the barrier is futile, when he states the metaphor, Oh, just another kind of outdoor game...it comes to little more. Another metaphor he used is Spring is the mischief in me. Mischief here does not refer to anything relative to evil, but to friskiness that attempts to put a notion in his head. Yet this attempt is in unavailing, and the neighbor continues to repair the wall, and in the simile, Like an old stone savage armed , Frost attests that his neighbor has the stride and stubborn ignorance of a caveman. He also uses other devices such as a pun, applied in the line, And to whom I was like to give offence. The last word of the line simply emphasizes the importance of the subject, the fence. The most prominent figure of speech, however, is the ironic, Good fences make good neighbors. This is completely opposite of the connotation of the poem. Fences do not make neighbors, but strangers that are apathetic towards each other. The neighbor seems to prefer this approach, to eliminate any risks of trespassing or offenses. Yet what the fence really does is hinder the development of friendship. This is comparable to the barriers of bitterness, anger, hate, and fear men put between one another that obstruct love and ... • 3. Death In The Woods A Critical Analysis of Death in the Woods Death in the Woods is a story about a woman that lives a hard life. When she was a girl she worked for a German farmer and his wife. When she was a little older she married a man named Jake Grimes thinking she would get away from the crude work of the farmer. She soon finds out that life doesn t get any better for her than it already was. Later in the story she is found dead by a rabbit hunter in the woods (Cleveland). Death in the Woods seemingly concerns a farm woman, Mrs.Grimes, who, only in her early forties, seems old and probably psycotic. She doesn t have a first name in the story, and, indeed, very little is known about her life at all in the story. It s like no one knows who she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A person could then appropriate a single one of these truths and try to go by it. That is when he or she would become a grotesque. The stories in Winesburg, Ohio do grapple with Anderson s intended theme, and a story such as Hands clearly illustrates what he means by grotesque (Ellis 2). The hands belong to Wing Biddlebaum, formerly Adolph Myers, a teacher in a Pennsylvania village who was beaten and run out of town for caressing boys. Anderson Cleveland 4 is oblique about Wing s homosexuality, for the thrust of the story. In the story Death in the Woods, as a girl , Mrs. Grimes was sexually abused her German owner (Doneskey 1 3). The Philosopher provides a more subtle illustration of grotesque and introduces the idea that a grotesque need not be pitiable or tragic; in fact, he can be wildly humorous as demonstrated at the beginning of the story with the philosopher s description (Doneskey 1 3). Anderson was interested in the development of the artist type, the inner desires of repressed people, the failure of people to communicate their true selves; the way conventions and tradition have twisted and distorted the individual (Doneskey 1 3). Anderson wrote several versions of the tale before he felt that he had to come close to telling it adequately, and one of the most narrative devices ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. TEMPEST Essay The Other in the Tempest In order to understand the characters in a play, we have to be able to distinguish what exactly makes them different. In the case of The Tempest, Caliban, the sub human slave is governed largely by his senses, making him the animal that he is portrayed to be and Prospero is governed by sound mind, making him human. Caliban responds to nature as his instinct is to follow it. Prospero, on the other hand, follows the art of justifiable rule. Even though it is easy to start assessing The Tempest in view of a colonialist gaze, I have chosen instead to concentrate on viewing Caliban as the monster he is portrayed to be, due to other characters that are not human, but are treated in a more humane fashion than Caliban. ... Although we are not given details of Caliban s birth, it seems likely that a creature as subhuman in appearance as Caliban was not born of a human union. It has been postulated that, to quote Prospero, he was got by the devil himself upon thy wicked dam, from a union between Sycorax and an incubus (an extremely attractive male apparition with intention to tempt). Caliban was therefore a creature born from passion, the offspring of an unholy pleasure. Prospero was not only of noble birth; he was also born to be ruler of the city state of Milan. Nobility, in Elizabethan times, carried with it heavy implications: it was expected that Prospero would be intellectually superior, and that he would exercise as great discipline over himself as he was expected to exercise over others, in his role of leadership. From their ancestry, Prospero is more ruled by his intellect, and Caliban by his love of pleasure. Caliban s original love for Prospero and Miranda, and his later misdemeanour and subsequent hatred for them, illustrate his fundamental reliance on his senses. Caliban loved Prospero and Miranda because they made much of me ; and his response to this was purely sensual in his recollections: Thou strok st me,...wouldst give me/Water with berries in t. • 6. How Did The Spanish Treat The Native Americans The Spanish reacted peacefully to the lifestyle of the Natives. For example, when they established their rule in America, they did not destroy and ruin the culture and heritage of the Native Americas. Also, intermarriages between the Spanish and the Native Americans became very common since many Spanish conquistadors were males in their 20s. As a result of intermarriage, a new ethnicity was formed; this ethnicity was called mestizos. Mestizos established a cultural peace between the Spanish and the Natives. Culturally, the Spanish and the Natives lived in tranquility. When it came to the economics, the Spanish did not respond so peacefully; they were acted harshly. Spanish conquistadors originally established their rule in colonial America in search of gold and silver. Throughout their rule, they have not forgotten their main goal. For example, the Spanish deprived the Natives of their resources, and forced them into slavery. The Native Americans were ordered to work in gold and silver mines. • 8. Temperature And Pressure Measurements Of An Ideal Gas Temperature and Pressure Measurements of an Ideal Gas That Is Heated in a Closed Container Introduction This report discusses an experiment to study the relationship of temperature and pressure of an ideal gas (air) that was heated in a closed container. Because the ideal gas was in a closed container, its volume remained constant. The objective of the experiment is to test whether the ideal equation of state holds. In the equation, pV = mRT, where p is the pressure the gas, V is the volume, m is the mass, R is a constant, and T is temperature . This report presents the procedures for the experiment, the experiment s results, and an analysis of those results. Procedures In this experiment, air (an ideal gas) was heated in a pressure vessel with a volume of 1 liter. Attached to this pressure vessel was a pressure transducer and thermocouple to measure the pressure and the temperature, respectively, of the air inside the vessel. Both of these transducers produced voltage signals (in Volts) that were calibrated to the pressure (kPa) and temperature (K) of the air (the atmospheric pressure for where the experiment occurred is assumed to be 13.6 psia). In addition, the theoretical temperature (K) of air was calculated as a function of the measured pressured values (kPa). Results and Discussion This section analyses the results of the experiment. The experiment went as expected with no unusual events that would have introduced error. The voltages as measured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early human civilizations relied on hunting for subsistence. As humans and civilizations evolved, so did hunting. Hunting became a sport rather than a necessity. People who are for huntingclaim that it helps control wildlife populations, whereas people against it believe that trophy hunting will lead to the extinction of certain animals. Specifically, trophy hunting could harm the environment and the entire species of the animal killed. Firstly, grizzly bears help the environment and other animals in the rainforest. For example, David Suzuki talks about how grizzlies bring salmon, along with nutrients from the ocean in the salmon, into the rainforest. This leaves the carcass of the salmon for other animals and the nutrients in the salmon for the fertilization of the rainforest (Suzuki). Therefore, trophy hunting grizzlies harms more than just the one bear the hunter killed. Secondly, illegal markets caused a rise in hunting, leading to more animals being killed to be sold. For instance, Richard Emslie and Michael Knight report that pseudo hunters would get permits to hunt rhinos and sell their horns. This caused a temporary peak in hunting applications (Emslie). Therefore, the hunting of animals caused illegal markets to pop up, in which caused more people to hunt. Thirdly, some animals are already facing threats without hunters. To illustrate, Suzuki, talking about grizzly bears, says they already face threats from habitat loss, damage and fragmentation; cascading effects of salmon collapse and climate change; and death from poaching. Hence, hunting only furthers problems animals have. For all these reasons, trophy hunting is harming the environment and other animals, plus the ones they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming amount of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of change specifically change which went against the previous teachings of the Catholic Church. Such change is apparent in the ideas, questions, and philosophies of the time, in the study of science, and throughout the monarchial system. Previously, the Catholic Church had professed to the entire medieval world that faith in God was absolute. Indeed, the medieval world was truly an age of faith. As such, ideas that went against the teachings of God were ignored and their preachers subsequently murdered. After the Crusades brought back old Aristotelian learning from the middle east, all this changed. Advances in Geography were made with the introduction of Ptolemaic Geography. More importantly than the rediscovery of ancient geography was the beginning of skepticism in Western Europe. No longer would the Church s word be taken on faith. Investigate the Rate of Osmosis in Different Vegetables (Carrot, Potato, Swede, Parsnip and Sweet Potato) In this coursework experiment I plan to find the rate of osmosis in different vegetables (Carrot, Potato, Swede, Parsnip and Sweet Potato). I will measure the mass before and after the experiment to use the results to calculate the rate of osmosis, and to find trends in the vegetables. To ensure the experiment is fair, I will control all the other variables (Temperature, size of chip at 5cm x 1cm, concentration of solution at 0.2M etc.). • 24. Unexpectful Aspects In William Shakespeare s The Tempest Unexpected discoveries have a profound impact on individuals, changing their perception of themselves, others, their worlds and the current situation. As said by the scientist, Albert Szent Gyorgi, unexpected discoveries are often made by looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different and are provoked by curiosity and wonder. Unexpected discoveries with profound impacts are evident in William Shakespeares tragicomic play, The Tempest(1610) where the dethroned duke of Milan plots revenge against his enemies, but unexpectedly finds forgiveness. Likewise, in William Golding s survival novel, Lord of the Flies (1954), features a group of British schoolboys who crash land into an island and have to govern themselves. Unexpectedly, some of the boys question the whole notion of civilisation. After a period of isolation, human contact may lead to profound and unexpected discoveries. Shakespeare s characterisation of Miranda as a naive girl creates a profound impact when Miranda uses antithesis to describe her discovery of humankind: I might call him a divine, for nothing natural I ever saw so noble , this discovery opens up a whole new world for Miranda as she falls in love with Ferdinand. Prospero disapproves of Miranda s affection towards Ferdinand: What I say? My foot my tutor? In the world we live in today, it is quite obvious to see that inequality is a growing consequence of economic growth. There are increased demands for educated workers; dependence of technology; privatization of markets; and the rise of capitalism which have led people to have drastic socioeconomic differences in wealth and lifestyle. It is clear to see that, developing countries that have been open to trade have had the fastest growth, reducing global inequality (Birdsall, 84), but what about the countries that have not been able to adapt and join commercial links to the outside world? African countries have always remained the poorest economically, as they do not have the means to produce and export goods to countries around the world. These countries vastly differ from those such as Japan who sought out economic relations in other countries through technology licensing, and openness to foreign investment (Birdsall, 84). This widespread development is happening all across Asia, especially in China and India. Although these two countries have surpassed the development speed of developed first world countries over the past 15 years, it would take them almost a century of constant growth at rates higher than those in today s industrialized countries (Birdsall, 80) to even be at par with the current level of income in the United States. Problem: Computers are an important tool that many students use during college to accomplish tasks for classes. Laptops are commonly used around campuses; however, they don t always prove to be strong enough to complete all the tasks that college students would like to run. When a laptop isn t large enough to run all the software a student would like, a desktop computer comes next in power. A desktop computer is capable of more customization to fit the needs of a person with its performance and visuals. Most colleges offer desktop computers that can run advanced programs, however it is not always convenient to a college student to have to go onto campus to use this software. This is why it is more suitable for college students to have their own desktop PC at home. When building a pc, one needs to consider what they are going to use the PC for. For a college student, some uses of a desktop pc could consist of gaming, video editing, and running software. All three of these rely on each part of the computer to perform the task. One component used heavily in all three of the tasks is the CPU (Central Processing Unit). The CPU is a piece of computer hardware that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some studies have shown that preservice teachers and in service elementary teachers have knowledge gaps in their mathematics content and pedagogical content knowledge (e.g., Ball, 1990; Ma, 1999). The knowledge that teachers have for teaching influence their instruction and the lack of such can limit how they teach mathematics for understanding (Borko Putnam, 1996). For this reason, teacher preparation programs and professional development forums should emphasize and provide the opportunities for learning to teach mathematics for conceptual understanding. Not only do such opportunities build on preservice teachers mathematics content knowledge, but they also introduce them to the new ways of teaching mathematics that they may not have experienced in their earlier mathematics learning. The findings from this study suggest that frequent experiences in learning mathematics for conceptual understanding through particular strategies is related to an increase in PSTs knowledge about teaching mathematics. In particular, more opportunities that allow PSTs to learn to show why a procedure works was significantly related to the average PSTs increase in content knowledge between the teacher preparation programs in the United States. There is one particular planet in our solar system that is brimming with these possibilities. However, for nine years it has not actually been considered a planet. Since being demoted from planetstatus to dwarf planetstatus, little Plutohas raised some big questions about what defines a planet and what does not. In this paper, I will attempt to persuade you that Pluto should be promoted back to its original planet status. First, I will give you a brief history of Pluto, from its discovery to what prompted its reclassification. Next, I will explain the definition of a planet as given by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and the definition s flaws. If you look past the gargoyles on the roof, you can see that the castle has several towers. The sides of the castle contained small, little windows with bars on them that continue all the way to the grass on the ground. The castle permeated off a feeling of tension and fright. • 45. Case Study Of Steven M. Labrie s Vacation For Attorneys RESPONDENT TEAMSTERS LOCAL 251 OBJECTION TO PETITION FOR ATTORNEYS FEES This matter is before the Court on a Petition Steven M. Labrie for attorney s fees associated with his appeal from a decision from the Department of Labor and Training [ DLT ]. For the reasons set forth below, Labrie is not entitled to attorney s fees for services rendered on appeal. Alternatively, in the event that attorney s fees are allowable, they are within the jurisdiction of the Director of the Department of Labor and Training rather than the Superior Court. 1.On October 1, 2015, the DLT determined that Labrie was entitled to vacation pay for 2013, but not for vacation pay for 2008 through 2012. Labrie appealed pursuant to G.L. В§42 35 15, the Administrative Procedures Act. 2.On January 12, 2017, this Court reversed pertinent portions of the DLT decision. 3.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Labrie s reliance on G.L. В§28 14 19(c) for an award of further attorney s fees is without merit. That section specifically provides that the DLT director may direct payment of reasonable attorney s fees and costs to the complaining party. Thus, an award of attorney s fees is discretionary within the jurisdiction of the DLT, rather than this court. 4.The Administrative Procedures Act, G.L. В§42 35 15, on which Labrie relied on in connection with his appeal, contains no provision for an award of attorney s fees to a prevailing party. In addition, Rhode Island follows the American rule which bars an award of attorney s fees in the absence of statutory authority. As the Supreme court noted in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island v. Najarian, attorney s fees may not be appropriately awarded to the prevailing party absent contractual or statutory authorization. 911 A.2nd 706, 710 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Reasons Why The North Won The Civil War The Union won the American Civil War and reunited the country for several different reasons that changed over time. The North had advantages and successes that ebbed and flowed throughout the course of the war, while the South continued to make the same mistakes. A combination of Union success and Confederate failures ended the war in favor of the North and without one of them; it is hard to judge the outcome of the war. At the start of the war, the Union had a clear advantage in manpower and resources, which lasted throughout the war. When the Confederacy broke away, they consisted of eleven states compared to twenty three of the Union. Consequently, the North had a population of twenty three million while the South only had nine million, three and a half million of which were enslaved blacks. To combat this, the Confederates had to mobilize a massive proportion of its population. A whopping eighty percent of military age white men had to enlist. The South only produced seven percent of all manufactured goods when the war broke out.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 49. Spatial Rhythm and Poetic Invention in William Carlos... William Carlos Williams was fascinated by the ways in which living organisms and inert matter occupy space how they move in it, or cannot move, are cramped or allowed to roam freely and how the space inside organisms and matter is charted, perceived, and manipulated. Williams s preoccupation with actual space in the material world is paralleled by his formal experimentations with the placement of words on the page. Without invention nothing is well spaced (P 50), Williams writes at the beginning of Sundayin the Park, raising the question, what does well spaced mean for Williams? How can the world and how can poetry be well spaced? The aim of this paper is to look at the relationship between Williams s use of what I will call... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the opening lines of Sunday in the Park, Dr. P. s walk through the park becomes a metaphor not only for sexual intercourse but for poetic production: Outside outside myself there is a world, he rumbled, subject to my incursions lt;BLOCKQUOTE lt; A (to me) at rest, which I approach concretely The scene s the Park upon the rock, female to the city upon whose body Paterson instructs his thoughts The link between walking, coitus, and creativity is part of a larger framework in Sunday in which biological processes and various kinds of movement through space what I am calling spatial rhythms are used to explore the nature of poetry. One only has to look at the configuration of words on the page to know that for Williams well spaced involves not regularity but constant change and surprise. Williams s manipulation of space, both on the page and in the Park, is, in this section of Paterson, the main tool used to create the structure that M. L. Rosenthal and Sally Gall have described as characteristic of the modern poetic sequence, a structure that is not predominantly narrative or dramatic, but lyrical, a progression of specific qualities and intensities. [1] This rhythm corresponds to a cyclicity of mood that can be described as manic depresive or, to use Rosenthal s and Gall s term, cyclothymic.[2] Corresponding to this constantly changing tone is a space that is ... • 50. Harry Potter And The Chronicles Of Narnia Growing up everyone is forced to read. First, children start by being read to by their parents and then slowly over time and learning, read for themselves. Children usually at this point either quit reading all together or continue to endure and learn into classical readings such as: Harry Potter, or The Chronicles of Narnia. Kids who go through school are forced to read to increase their comprehension skills, and the ones who read on their own outside of school as well, usually have an increased score than others. Mostly people who do not read on their own have trouble connecting with the books or reading that they try. They seem to not be able to stay focused on the book, and easily become distracted with other things. Growing up I was a kid like this. I still to this day struggle with not becoming distracted with other things while I am trying to read. I always start with good intentions and then halfway down any certain page, I find myself daydreaming about something random like what I had for dinner the night before. I always had this problem, until now. During this summer literature course I have had a new inspiration for reading. From the first short storywe read, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, to the last I was surprised how interested I was in the stories. I didn t find myself daydreaming in the middle of these stories, and instead, I was focused and intrigued on how it would end. Although many stories spoke to me during my time in this class, ... One disadvantage of exporting is that there may be lower cost manufacturing locations; this will not affect us as souq.com because we don t manufacture our own products.
