Conflict Theory And Social Learning Theory
Fruitvale Station
Jenna Shirley
University of New England
Fruitvale Station is a movie that has the capability to bring many emotions to the surface. This
movie can foster critical thinking, but it can also draw the viewer in to experience the raw
emotions and suspenseful moments of this real life story. Unfortunately, Oscar Grant s life was
ended abruptly after he spent the night celebrating the New Year with his friends and girlfriend,
Sophina. From this story, it is clear that Oscar was attempting to change his story by being a better
father to his daughter, Tatiana, thinking about marrying Sophina, and better providing for his
family by getting a stable job and being a man that his mother and sister could rely upon. While the
incident that occurred at Fruitvale Station could be analyzed from any variety of theories, this
paper will examine these events from the lens of Conflict Theory and Social Learning Theory.
These theories intertwine in many ways, but they also differ from each other in very important
aspects. Fruitvale Station is a cinema depiction of a true story involving the death of Oscar Grant in
a train station in Oakland, California during the early morning hours of January 1, 2009. This
incident has sparked many civil rights related protests and discussions. Oscar Grant was survived
by his mother, who has been very vocal since the incident, fighting for equal rights for minorities,
his sister, and his daughter, Tatiana (Johnson).

The United States Military Bases
For roughly 1% of the United States population, the past 10 years have been an ever changing
experience serving across the world. On September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by a
terrorist organization residing in Afghanistan. The United States Armed forces were called upon to
fight a war against terrorism. In May 2003, this conflict extended to Iraq, which was acting as a
safe zone for many of the world s terrorists. Since that time, more than 70,000 contractors and sub
contractors have been hired by the Department of the Defense, in order to assist the United States
militaryin their mission against terrorism. These individuals known as the TCN s or third country
nationals, take part in everything from base security to cooking and laundry. However, since these
individuals are not United States citizens and the government has turned its back to them. Personal
knowledge, department of defense reports, and official law reviews contain a wide variety of
information that give a look inside what has been happening on the United States military bases.
Allegations of human trafficking, sexual assault, and indentured servitude are all common issues
these TCN s have endured.
In 2001, the Pentagon began taking in contract offers from companies around the United States.
Private contracting firms such as KBR Inc. or Prime Project International began receiving over 15
billion dollars a year. Foreign conflicts can be very profitable for large businesses that invest time

Corrective Action for Disrespecting Higher Ranking...
This essay is on tact, professionalism, respect and disrespect, as part of my corrective action for
disrespecting higher ranking military personal. I will start this essay off with defining each of
the subjects so that the reader may have a full understanding on what each mean. Tact is the first
subject on which I am suppose to include in this essay, tact is defined as a keen sense of what to
say or do to avoid giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations. The second
definition needed for this essay is on professionalism; professionalism is defined as professional
character, spirit, or methods. Given that there are three main points to that definition, character is
the key phrase to take from that definition for it pertains more to this essay then spirit or methods.
The third definition needed is on respect, and the most suited definition for respect as it pertains to
this essay is, deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something
considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment.
With the definition of respect given, the last and most important definition is disrespect. Disrespect
is defined as to regard or treat without respect; regard or treat with contempt or rudeness. Tact in my
opinion is the way you handle yourself in situations that you do not agree with or support. In the
military you will face many situations that you may not understand or agree with and the

Microtask Crowdsourcing Has Been Applied In Many Fields
Microtask crowdsourcing has been applied in many fields in the past decades, however there are
still important challenges not fully addressed, especially in task/workflow de sign and quality
assessment. We take a deeper look at crowdsourcing classification tasks and explore how task and
workflow design can impact the quality of the classification result. Our research will use large
online knowledge base and citizen science projects as examples and investigate the workflow
design considerations and its impact on worker performance as well as overall quality outcome
based on statistical, probabilistic, or machine learning models for true label prediction, such that
design principles can be recommended and applied in other citizen science... Show more content on

While the wisdom of crowd (Howe, 2006) has shown great potentials in these areas, it also exhibits
many challenges (Kittur et al., 2013; Buettner and Buettner, 2016) no matter it is via volunteered
activities (Lease, 2011; Newman et al., 2012) or paid microtask crowdsourcing (Kittur et al., 2013;
Demartini, 2015; Bernaschina et al., 2015).
In a typical microtask crowdsourcing scenario, from the requester s point of view, the most
important challenges include: 1, task and workflow design to make sure that it is easy to be
carried out by non expert workers, and at the same time risk of spammers or low quality workers
can be mitigated to achieve good quality of result; 2, quality assessment approaches to evaluate
the work from crowd workers. Task and workflow design (Little et al., 2010b; Kittur et al., 2011;
Demartini et al., 2012) are crucial in ensuring the task to be outsourced to the crowd is properly
understood, mitigating the chance of spam and keeping users engaged. They are essential to obtain
high quality and quantity of input from crowd workers. Quality assessment techniques can be
either on the fly (Ipeirotis et al., 2014) during the task running that can be used to optimize task
assignment hence reduce cost, or post aggregation (Whitehill et al., 2009; Ipeirotis et al., 2010;
Bachrach et al., 2012; Difallah et al., 2015) which involves various algorithms and strategies that

Living On This Planet Has Its Ups And Down
Living on this planet has its ups and down. When I noticed the #ReasonsToLeaveEarth trending on
twitter today, I thought to myself I have to write about that .
So, here you go.
My Top 6 Reasons to Leave Earth:
#6 BILLS
I mean, really, I hate to spend money.
My dad taught me a lot of thing about money: here are the top two.
Number one is to hold on to as much of it as you can, especially when you are young, because life
isn t just about today. You need to have some wiggle room when life throws you a curve ball and
you need to have a way to take care of yourself when you are old.
Number two is that even though you should save, you have to spend money to make money (I hate
dislike this very much). If you want to start a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think of how much more productive we could be. Think of how much we miss while we are asleep
for eight hours of our day (if we are lucky, that is).
To be able to call somewhere home where I didn t need to sleep in order to survive and function?
Now, that would be a dream (pun intended пЃЉ ).
#3 FOOD
I enjoy cooking, especially when I get to make something really delicious. But the need to have a
balance sometimes gets in the way of my fun in the kitchen.
I would be very much ok with leaving for a place where calories didn t count and everything tasted
amazing!
#2 PAIN AND SUFFERING
No one likes to be sick or suffer.
It breaks my heart to see my daughter fall and hurt herself or spend the night throwing up (and
even worse if my hubby and I are throwing up too).
And of course on this planet there is emotional suffering too. People are constantly fighting. No
one seems to be able to get along for more than ten seconds. It doesn t matter if you are leaders of
countries with opposing values or a husband and wife who can t decide on the color to pain the
shutters tension is everywhere.
I want to leave earth for a place where my family and I wouldn t have to deal with all the pain and
suffering that life on this planet has been dealing us all these years.
AND
#1 INCOMPLETE
I am incomplete here. Jesus Christ started a work in me when I chose to follow Him and make Him
LORD of my life. That work won t be finished until I am face to face with Him in

Taking a Look at DHL
DHL was first found by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn in 1969 in San
Francisco. The name DHL these three initials actually stands for their last name. At first, the
company founders personally transported cargo documents from San Francisco to Honolulu by
plane thereby it significantly reduced waiting times in the harbor. Customers saved a great deal
of time as a result. The founding of DHL also represented the creation of a new sector of
industry: international air express service rapid transport of documents and cargo papers by
plane. The company started their expansion in 70 s, it started from Philippines (1971) then japan,
Hongkong, Singapore and Australia (1972) and later in Europe (1974), Latin America (1977), the
Middle east and Africa (1978). It added its parcel delivery in 1979. Between 1985 and 1988 DHL
doubles its customer base to more than half a million and quadruples the number of shipments it
handles. It s also the first express delivery company to anticipate the demand for total logistics
solutions.
Deutsche Post started acquiring share in 1998, in 2001 it had its majority of share and in 2002 it
completed purchased. The Deutsche Bundespost was the federal German government postal
service created in 1947 as a successor to the Reichspost. Deutsche Bundespost was one of the most
modern mail transport networks in the world from 1998. After purchasing DHL, it became
Deutsche post DHL and in 2004 Deutsche Post Global Mail becomes DHL Global

Essay on The Comparison Between Psychodynamic and...
The Comparison between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Theory
There are very distinct differences between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling but both
ultimately offer the help and guidance to discover why we act the way we do and why we make
certain choices in our lives.
Throughout this essay, I will endeavour to explain those major differences and you will see that
despite these completely different methods of therapy, depending on what the problem maybe, they
can both work very effectively in their own way.
Carl Rogers, born in 1902, was the originator of the Person Centred Approach or Humanistic
Theory. His work was influenced by his experience of being a client and a counsellor (Casemore,
2006) and he believed a trusting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perls did not belive in a single particular theory. He thought you should always just go with the
flow and work with what you have and what is happening in the now. He placed great importance
on the client becoming self aware and thus developed the Gestalt theory. This therapy focuses more
on process (what is happening) than content (what is being discussed). The emphasis is on what is
being done, thought and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should
be. Perls believed in minipulating the client, bringing them out of their comfort zone and
challenging them. To own what you say and do and to be aware of unconscious actions/words.
In the 1950 s Eric Berne began to develop his theories of Transactional Analysis. He said that verbal
communication, particularly face to face, is at the centre of human social relationships and
psychoanalysis.
His starting point was that when two people encounter each other, one of them will speak to the
other. This he called the Transaction Stimulus. The reaction from the other person he called the
Transaction Response.
The person sending the Stimulus is called the Agent. The person who responds is called the
Respondent.
Transactional Analysis became the method of examining the transaction wherein: I do something to
you, and you do something back .
Berne also said that each person is made up of three alter ego states:
Parent This is our ingrained voice of authority,

How Did John D Rockefeller Impact On America
The New Tycoons All three of these successful entrepreneurs have had their own individual
impacts on America at their time and today. John D Rockefeller had an enormous impact on
America, as he provided the perfect image for the American dream. Since he came from a humble
beginning, he came from a small town in New York and his father practiced herbal medicine and
cured people in the area. He then was sent to a Clevelandbusiness school and started work as a
clerk in a shipping firm. He then saved enough money to start his own business, but quickly sold
that business and got into the oil industry. He then innovated the oil business by creating new
ways to produce products out of the waste product of making kerosene. He quickly made a huge
profit and then created horizontal integration by creating many trusts with other businesses in the
oil industry to create a monopoly. Rockefeller was the first to create a monopoly in American
business and revolutionized the way businesses interacted. Andrew Carnegie was like Rockefeller
in the way that he came from humble belongings by growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania.
He was talented in accounting and reading from an early aged and often went into the homes of
the wealthy to read their personal libraries. He started in a low end job,... Show more content on

I believe this because he was the original rags to riches story and represented the American
dream. He inspired many great businessmen like Carnegie, that it doesn t matter where you came
from. All that matters is what you do with what you re given. He also innovated the oil and gas
business which is still a huge industry in America today. Rockefeller was the first billionaire and
inspired others that if they worked hard enough, then they could have what it takes to be a
billionaire as well. Rockefeller also donated half of his fortune to medical foundations, universities,

Clara Schuman Impact On Society

women in her time never did. She was the main interpreter of her husband s work, but she also
played an important role in reintroducing eighteenth century music to the public. Unfortunately, her
compositions remained unknown until the second half of the twentieth century. Many are still
unpublished and owned by private collectors. Clara was born into a very musical family in 1819.
From an early age, her father planned Clara s career and life down to the smallest detail. She daily

Will Cornick In The Psychopaths
Crooked by Nature can never be made straight by education. Insane people cannot be taught to be
sane. It is said that which is crooked cannot be straightened, and what is lacking can t be put
back together. Society today believes that those who are crooked cannot be trusted. So if
somebody does a crooked thing they won t be given a second chance. People who are crooked
should be evaluated and if they truly are insane, then they should be put somewhere. Being
educated did not help Will Cornick make better choices. In eighth grade Will Cornick developed
an unprovoked hatred towards his teacher. Reporters said, Will Cornick: a model student planned
murder for 3 years. (Pidd 36). He had a sudden change in his demeanor, his way of thinking. Will
Cornick did not come from a bad background, it was said that this quick change, was so sudden

When evil people reveal themselves, they will never be welcome again. When that of a sinner is

Generally when one thinks of the American west their mind jumps to an image of untouched,
unspoiled land, such as the land that is represented by America s national parks. These tourist
destinations in the West showcase the history of our nation s land in a way that many people
assume is and has always been the reality, but although the natural beauty of these lands is
represented perhaps the beauty of the cultures that used to inhabit them is not. The Blackfeet
Indians once occupied a large portion of what is now Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana, but as the
Whiteman moved west and began to modernize, this sacred land was invaded. As a result of this
modernization the Blackfeet Indians were forced to assimilate into the modern white society. This

Buddhism Essay
The followers of the Buddha believe life goes on and on in many reincarnations or rebirths. The
eternal hope for all followers of Buddha is that through reincarnation one comes back into
successively better lives until one achieves the goal of being free from pain and suffering and not
having to come back again. This wheel of rebirth, known as samsara, goes on forever or until one
achieves Nirvana. The Buddhistdefinition of Nirvana is quot;the highest state of spiritual bliss, as
absolute immortality through absorptionof the soul into itself, but preserving individuality quot;
(Head1 57). Birth is not the beginning and death is not the end. This cycle of life has no beginning

The Buddhist in the third stage is ultimately able to put his ego to the side and become pure spirit,
having no perception of the material world. This stage requires one to move from perception to non
perception. And so, through many stages of spiritual evolution and numerous reincarnations, the
Buddhist reaches the state of Nirvana. The transition from one stage to another, or the progression
within a stage is based on the actions of the Buddhist. All actions are simply the display of thought,
the will of man. This will is caused by character, and character is manufactured from karma. Karma
means action or
Owing. Any kind of intentional action whether mental, verbal or physical is regarded as karma.
All good and bad actions constitute karma. As is the karma, so is the will of the man. A person s
karma determines what he deserves and what goals can be achieved. The Buddhists past life
actions determine present standing in life and current actions determine the next life, all is
determined by the Buddhist s karma (Kapleau 20). Buddha developed a doctrine known as the
Four Noble Truths based on his experience and inspiration about the nature of life. These truths
are the basis for all schools of Buddhism. The fourth truth describes the way to overcome personal
desire through the Eightfold Path. Buddha called his path the Middle Way, because it lies between
a life of luxury and a life of poverty.

Implications for practice suggest social workers should consider the micro, mezzo, and macro levels

himself as unworthy for someone of her stature. Others respect her success and willingness to go
the extra mile, but for someone who sees the world the old fashioned way Lisa could be a
woman ahead of her time. Jefferies spends his bed ridden days peeping in on his neighbors Ms.
Torso and Miss Lonelyheart. The audience watches as Miss Lonelyheart pieces together a
romantic dinner for two and pretended to greet a lover at the door; only for her to later drink
herself to sleep at the kitchen table. This character represents Jefferies loneliness and lust for a
partner, but also his fear to commit to one. Miss Lonelyheart is only able to find love in the film
after Jefferies comes to the realization that he is good enough for Lisa after all. Coincidentally in
another apartment, he finds Ms. Torso, a ballerina, who is constantly practicing her dance routines
or hosting gatherings for potential patrons. In one peeping scene Jeff compares Ms. Torso s
apartment to Lisa s and he then proceeds to spy on her business gathering, Jeff: ...but we have a

Analysis Of The Great Migration Reflections On By step...
The New Victory Theater produces the history of the Great Migration to light with its second
production of the season, Step Afrika! s The Migration Reflections on Jacob Lawrence. Directed
and Choreographed by Jakari Sherman, the production highlights the historical movement in the
early 20th century of African Americans to the North from the South. Founder and Executive

The Planet Of Planet Mercury
Introduction
The planet Mercury is very difficult to study from the Earth because of its proximity to the Sun.
It is the second smallest planet (it was believed to be the smallest until the discovery that Pluto is
actually much smaller than originally thought), and also the fastest in its orbit since it is the
innermost planet.
Solar System Records
Highest uncompressed density.
Highest diurnal variation in temperature.
Only Solar System object with a 3:2 spin orbit resonance. it rotates on its axis exactly three times
for every two revolutions it makes around the Sun
Geological history ended the earliest among terrestrial planets.
Smallest planet with global magnetic field.
Most Earth like magnetosphere.
Name
Named after the Roman messenger god who was known for his ability to travel quickly with wings
on his feet. Mercury travels in orbit the shortest time of all planets
Distance From The Sun
Mercury is located 57, 910, 000km (0.38AU) from the Sun.
Mercury is the inner most planet in our solar system.
Orbit
The orbit of Mercury is the most eccentric of the planets in the solar system.
At perihelion it is 46,001,200km from the Sun
At aphelion it is 69,816,200km from the Sun
A difference of 23,815,700km giving it an eccentricity of 0.21
Orbit
Mercury is the only object Solar System with a 3:2 spin orbit resonance. This means it rotates on

Comparing Christian Liberty, Utopia, and The Prince Essay
Christian Liberty, Utopia, and The Prince
A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none...A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant
to all, subject to none. (Luther Pg. 7) These lines show what Luther is truly about. In Christian
Liberty, Luther believes in the reestablishing of God as the inner authority. In Utopia, Thomas More
believes the power should be in one group and that the rest of the common people in the society
should all be equal like a communist society. In The Prince, Machievelli believes that the power is
within the prince. I choose Christian Liberty as the best form of authority because it is the closest
to being an honest and true way of authority. Although noneof the books portray ... Show more

Is not such a soul most obedient to God in all things by this faith? ...What more complete
fulfillment is there than obedience in all things? This obedience, however, is not rendered by
works but by faith alone. (Luther page 13) In this passage Luther is explaining the inner man
versus the outer man. He is showing that if you trust and believe in God then he will never steer
you wrong but if you don t then, what greater wickedness, what greater contempt of God is there
than not believing his promise...but to make God a liar or to doubt that he is truthful? That is to
ascribe truthfulness to one s self but lying and vanity in God?
This quote shows the dismal side of not believing in God and his supreme power and authority. If
you were to doubt him whom would you go to for salvation once he gave up on you?
Man has a two fold nature, a spiritual and a bodily one. According to the spiritual nature, which
men refer to as the soul, he is called a spiritual, inner or new man. According to the bodily nature
which men refer to as flesh, he is called a carnal, outward, or old man. (Luther page 7) We have
first talked about the spiritual aspect of a person now we are going to talk about the physical aspect.
Now let us turn to the second part, the outer man. Here we shall answer all those who, offended by

For the foregoing dispute are both economic and philosophical differences. Supporters Kozol
since the 60s has been steadily thinning their number are of the opinion that the differences
between schools for the top and schools for the lower classes, by definition, undemocratic, and
that the U.S. should strive for absolute equality, even if it will have to cut funding schools in
more affluent areas, and support special programs for gifted children. Opponents Kozol also
believe that all this is fraught with egalitarianism that runs counter to the spirit of American life. Is
not it should seek to ensure that children fully realize their potential even if it means to throw in
the rear of their peers academically worse? Is it fair to take away money from successful schools
and throw into the bottomless abyss? Kozol well articulated this position: These people see the

U.S. spends more on education than most countries in the world, but are polarized with an
educational system where high end schools attract students worldwide and public schools without
sufficient care for the poor and recent migrants. The education expert Jonathan Kozol states that the

Similarities Between Julius Caesar And Malcom X
Today we ll be looking over some surprising similarities with Julius Caesar and Malcom X, two
leaders who quickly rose to power in their respective times. Even though from completely different
ages, and a diverse difference in race and societies, both men still faced similar trials. Similar fates.
Born in July 13th, 100 BC, Julius Caesar was born into the world. Early trials such as having to
lead his family as the head at the age of 16 when his father died suddenly in 85 BC. He quickly
rose to power after serving in wars, and sought political power, beginning his campaigns in 59
BC. While many praises Caesar, some feared that he held too much power, and during a senate
session he was assassinated by several of the senators who plotted his demise, marking the end of
Julius Caesar.
Malcom X (Malcom Little), was born in May 19, 1925, Omaha, Nebraska. Having to frequently
relocate homes from threats from the Black Legion, a white racist group, his father was killed in
a car accident when Malcom was only at the age of 6, Malcom s mother believed the accident
occurred at the hands of the Black Legion. In 1937, his mother was sent to a mental hospital, and

City Of God Analysis
The Brazilian film City of God, directed by Fernando Meirelles and KГЎtia Lund provides an
insiders look on the lives of inner city young adults involved in organized crime as they attempt to
survive and navigate the slums in which they live. The film, loosely based on real life events, is a
commentary on the cyclical nature of violencein the titular City of God, a slum located in Rio de
Janeiro. The film chooses to document the rise and fall of crimein Rio de Janeiro that took place
from the 1960s to the 1980s and the lives of inner city kids involved in it. It toys with themes of
cyclical and inescapable violence; suffocation; and the inexorable nature of poverty and
involvement in a life of organized crime and gang activities through the employment of several
editing techniques throughout the length of the film such as split frame simultaneous shots, quick
and violent cuts, and POV shots. Notably, these techniques are primarily used when shooting
Rocket, the main character of the film and a member of the favela. Rocket s place in the story is
the main vessel for pushing these themes in the story as the film chooses to focus on his emotions
regarding the favela. Overall these editing techniques work to provide the representation of the
favela as suffocating and small; a representation that is tied intrinsically with themes of poverty and
the certainty of violence.
Throughout the length of the film the viewers watch as the plot seemingly goes in circles, helpless

Musical Theatre Research Paper
A musical theatre production generally consists of drama, music, songs, and dancing. These aspects
are what make musical theatre one of the most favored type of drama production.
The difference between a play and a musical play is obviously the input of music and how the story
is told. In plays, the emotions and actions are showcased through words and movement, but in
musical theatre, the content can be expressed through dialogue as well as music and dancing.
Musical theatre has quite an extensive history. They can be dated back to ancient Greece, around
the 5th century BCE. However, the most noteworthy period of time, The Golden Age, for
musicals was during the 1940s to the 1960s. Since this was the period right after the economic
recession, when The American Dream was coveted, many musicals wrapped their ideas and
themes based on it. During this Golden Age time period, hits from Rodgers and Hammerstein
such as The Sound of Music and The King and I were produced. These pieces are still widely
spoken of today. There were many focuses that the plays were formulated on during specific
periods. For example, during the early 1900s, musicals were often light and humorous, since this

not as much as usual musicals. Since there is more singing than talking, characters in Operas and

Doubt John Patrick Shanley Essay
Besides earning a Pulitzer Prize, John Patrick Shanley achieved another unique feat with his play,
Doubt he expertly crafted a story whose conclusion ultimately lies within the mind and
imagination of the reader. Doubt is a play confined within the walls of a Catholic school during
the 1960s. It presents a tense clash between Father Flynn, a gregarious priest at the school who
advocates progressive ideas and empathy for transgression; and Sister Aloysius, the draconian,
stalwartly traditional principal who steadily becomes more and more certain that Flynn has been
sexually abusing a student. The story is artfully hewn, ending in a type of purgatory between
doubt and certainty that leaves the reader to untangle the web woven by Shanley. Thus, two
readers may read the same words formed into the same sentences, but reach polar conclusions
regarding the guilt of Father Flynn. Make no mistake; this phenomenon is intentional and will
explain a possible motivation behind the play s title: Doubt: A Parable. In the play s preface,
Shanley writes: Doubt requires more courage than conviction does, and more energy; because

then is it just to entrust the conviction and life of another human to the certainties of a jury? While

does bring to the forefront prominent complications that can arise due to the inescapable fallibility

During Ramadan, fasting helps Muslims with their spiritual devotion as well as in developing a

An Analysis Of Ellen Hopkins s You Know My Story
The poem, You Know My Story , is an excerpt from a larger poem, and novel, called Glass by Ellen
Hopkins. The book is the second book in a series of three describing the rollercoaster life of
Kristina Georgia Snow while on drugs. The free verse poetry books were very largely inspired by
Hopkins daughter s own drug addiction(Goodreads). Her daughter, Cristal was very much like
Kristina from the story. She became addicted to the same drug as Kristina and even had a child
that was later adopted by Hopkins, just like the character from the story (Hopkins). The poem is
written in a very interesting way. If someone were to read the poem straight across as literature
is meant to be read, the poem would be very descriptive and tell a short story on just one page.
But with many of Hopkins works, if the poem is read just using the stand alone words or phrases
on the right, a new poem is born. This new poem is a much creepier summary of the larger poem.
In this case the new poem reads, my dive into insanity, no longer perfect, Kristina became the
monster (Hopkins). The entire poem has a very dark mood. It has very deep traces of
helplessness and a misplaced self identity for the narrator. The tone shifts a few times, but
throughout it shares the same darkness of the mood. First there is anger, then sadness and, finally
complete vulnerability. Any piece of literature that talks about an addict of any sort, tends to be
very dark and depressing. This poem is no exception to that idea. If a person was new to the
works of Ellen Hopkins, they might not be aware of the fact that her books are poetry. The free
versestyle lends itself well to the writing of a novel, but it is not the type of rhyming poetry that
most people are used to. It seems more like a book than a poem at first, yet if reread the poetic
nature is made more noticeable. Hopkins has stated that she doesn t plan out her books beforehand
because her poetry has to flow naturally and too much planning messes with the natural flow of
things (Hopkins).
There is no discernable rhythm or rhyme scheme to this poem. That holds true for most free verse
poems. As previously stated, this type of poetry tends to work well when writing an entire book

He didn t seem to notice it, but just before they started playing again, he sipped from it and
looked toward me, and nodded. Then he put it back on top of the piano. For me, then, as they
began to play again, it glowed and shook above my brother s head like the very cup of trembling.
(Kennedy 23 4 24) The cup of trembling is a reference to a biblical verse about God s wrath:
whoever possesses it is said to be in God s judgment or disfavor. There has been much debate
about this reference in regard to Sonny s and the narrator s suffering, but it is arguably a link to
grace as well. The narrator has passed this cup from himself, and though this could be seen as a
passing of God s disfavor to Sonny, it is figurative of the grace that now permeates their
relationship. It rests on the piano, not in his hand, as a reminder of how Sonny was once out of
his brother s unwarranted favor but how he is now forgiven and understood by him. Grace s
death is at once a symbol of failure and falling from grace and of grace restored. The collapse of
grace is the very thing that keeps Sonny and the narrator apart, but it is the fall of Grace that
ultimately leads to their reunion. (Stone, C. 2013) Scholars and critics tend to infer this passage as

Taking a Look at Spinal Shock
The term spinal shock was first defined by Whytt in 1750 as a loss of sensation accompanied by
motor paralysis with the initial loss but gradual recovery of reflexes following a spinal cord
injury . Spinal shock occurs due to there being a sudden loss of conductivity of electrical signals
in the spinal cord, since the potassium ions move from the intracellular space to the extracellular
space. When this occurs the body cannot effectively send nerve signal impulses to control
automatic reflexes below the site of the spinal cord injury. The symptoms of spinal shock patients
are that there are complications such as hypotension because the sympathetic nervous system is
unable to regulate vascular tone (contraction of the blood vessels). This is usually the case when
the injury is in the cervical spinal cord. Other symptoms include: flexor spasms, tetraplegia, and
paraplegia, atonic paralysis and many other symptoms such as a pounding headache and
excessive sweating (Patient Education Institute). There are four main phases of spinal shock.
They are Hyporeflexia that is due to loss of descending facilitation which is the first phase that
last for approximately a day. The second phase initial reflex returns and denervation super
sensitivity which occurs within 1 3 days of the spinal shock (Silver, 1970). The third phase takes
up to four weeks it s the initial Hyperreflexia with axon supported synapse growth. The last phase is

The average temperature of the human body is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. By calculating the mean of
the temperatures taken, through the ears, of the two thermometers, the Braun got the closest with
98.44 F in the right ear and 97.51 F in the left, when compared to the Proven with 97.24 F in the
right and 96.42 F in the left. The Proven had a higher accuracy when measuring the temperature of
the forehead with the sensor cap, illustrating that, for this device, it is better to measure temperature
through the forehead than in the ears. Through this observation it can be concluded that the Braun
thermometer is better for measuring a person s core body temperature. This could be due to the
overall design and application of each thermometer. The Braun thermometer measured temperature
solely in through the ears, while the Proven thermometer is modified to measure temperature either
through the ears or on the forehead. This could lead to a more accurate reading of the Braun
thermometer, since it s focused on a single place.
When measuring the cool tap water in the second part of this experiment, the alcohol thermometer
presented a reading of 60.8 F (16 C) and the Proven thermometer produced a reading of 63.1 F
(16.3 C). There was not a huge difference between the two readings, given that one is meant to read
the infrared wavelengths of the human body.

Study Hall In Middle Schools
Is study hall important to you? Do you think that it would help you if you had study hall? Would
you use your time wisely? Well, I believe that middle schools should have study hall. High
schools have study hall and just because we are younger than them that doesn t mean that we
can t have study hall. Study hall is proven to be more helpful for students. The first reason that
study hall is needed is, that it s good for making up missed work. If people get their missed work
done in study hall then there grade will go up and the students won t have to worry about failing.
Also if there reading is low they can easily do extra reading and there grade will go right up and
they will farther in there book which means that they are closer

Asynchronous Technologies Support Learning And Teaching
Now that the LMS for the organization has been identified, the committee will determine the
different assets that can be integrated into the LMS. The committee must also decide if the material
will be delivered to the students synchronously, asynchronously, or as a combination of the two.
Synchronous learning environments support learning and teaching and offer students and teachers
with multiple ways of interacting, sharing, and the ability to collaborate and ask questions in real
time through synchronous learning technologies. Examples of synchronous online technology
types include videoconferencing, webcasts, interactive learning models, and telephone conferences
(Er et al., 2009; eLearners.com, 2012). In an asynchronous learning environment students are able
to actively participate in their own learning, giving them the opportunity to interact with their peers,
provide peer feedback, and reflect on the status of their personal learning goals and outcomes
(Harris et al., 2009; Simonson et al., 2012). Asynchronous technologies support learning and allow
more time for student reflection, collaboration, and student to student interactions (Skylar, 2009;
Meloni, 2010). According to Meloni (2010) asynchronous communication and learning is by far the
more popular learning type because many of the learning tools are free, require minimal hardware,
and are used at the student s pace. Recent research into the usage and efficacy of synchronous tools
has indicated that these

White Trash Primer Analysis
Lacy M. Johnson and Amy Tan came from two entirely different backgrounds. Johnson had come
from a southern, rural family, while Tan had come from a Chinese family living in America.
Johnson wrote the short story White Trash Primer, which is from the book Trespasses: A Memoir,
and Tan s Two Kinds is an excerpt from her book The Joy Luck Club
. Even though these authors
are entirely different, they share similar qualities in their writing styles such as language,
imagery and symbolism. They also share a connected message which is that whatever you do,
no matter if it is something hard or if you are going through hard times, as long as you try your
best you will be able to achieve your goal. In Johnson s White Trash Primer, Johnson tells the
story of living on a farm, growing up in a poor family and going through hard times. Johnson tells
how she overcomes the obstacles that she had to deal with in her life. This leaves the reader with
the message that, no matter how hard life is, as long as you push through you will be able to do
anything you set your mind to. The line You hide that you are poor (Johnson... Show more content

In Two Kinds Tan compares herself to Christ, when dreaming of the idea of becoming a prodigy
child. I was like the Christ child lifted out of the straw manger, crying with holy indignity (Tan
386). This is her way of picturing herself as a prodigy child. In White Trash Primer Johnson
merely makes a visual reference about how religion is in the south. The line You attend second
service every Sunday since the day you are born and Brother Dan or Brother Darrell preach
about the glory and grace of Jesus Christ and you accept him as your Lord and Savior or you burn
in hell and this is why you ve been baptized twice and saved exactly twenty seven times (Johnson
826). Johnson, is not comparing herself to Christ, but is stating a memoir of her

The Immorality Of Nepalese Business Being Publicized One...
Introduction
When it comes to moral behavior, Nepalese society held high demands. It is something our
collective society is made up of. But in the developing country like ours where business is yet to
be professionalized, the morality that has bounded our society for years is very weak within business
and its impacts can be seen in our society and nation.
Few years ago news explaining immorality transfused in Nepalese business being publicized one
after another.
Case Study: Gudpak Turned Sour
Kathmandu: September 6, 2014
Forum for Customer Right Protection on Tuesday, September 4 2014 filed case against four
businessmen dealing in Sweets at the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanuman Dhoka. The cases were
filed against famous sweet shop owners of Corner Taaja Gudpak Bhandar , Shri KrishnaGudpak
Bhandar , Anmol Sweets , and Kanhaiya Ghee Brand . These outlets were using animal fat in the
name of pure ghee and rotten, expired sweets and raw materials for preparing Gudpak and
Pustakari (type of Nepali sweet). The production site was found very unhygienic and unsanitary. On
the other hand, Kanhaiya Ghee Brand was found producing and selling inedible ghee (type of
butter) with zero RM value.
A kg of gudpak and pustakari, bought after struggling with the commotion and the crowd at the
shop, would bring smiles back home in our families, the kids and old. Gudpak was not just a sweet
made from the milk and its derivative but a culture among the Nepalese and it still continues to be.

The Causes And Outline Of The American Revolution
The American Revolution I.Introduction Beginning in 1775 and ending with a peace treaty in
1783 The American Revolution allowed the 13 colonies to break free from Britain and become
the U.S. They were helped by the French who were so inspired it pushed them to carry out their
plans to revolt as well. II.Background Some causes of the war have been around since the British
first settled. Because the colonies were so far away it took months for news from Britain to reach
them they saw self government as a right when Britain had such a loose reign over them That all
changed when the British controlled all of the land from the Appalachians to the Mississippi River
and Canada after the French Indian war (1754 63) The war left them... Show more content on

H.The Surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown The end of the war was sudden. British General
Lord Cornwallis marched north to Virginia to follow an American force under the Frenchman
the Marquis de Lafayette. He failed with Lafayette but occupied Yorktown. There, on the
peninsula formed by the York and James rivers, Cornwallis fortified his troops. Washington saw
an opportunity and Admiral François de Grasse of the French navy agreed to help. He used his
fleet to stop a British escape by sea while Washington, with a French and colonial army of 16,000
men, faced Cornwallis on land. There was no battle, but Cornwallis was trapped. He surrendered
his army on 19 October 1781. V.Establishment of the New Nation The final peace treaty (the Treaty
of Paris) was signed on 3 September 1783 in France. The treaty accepted the United States as an
independent nation and set the western boundary at the Mississippi River and Britain kept control
of Canada, which opened, up the lands beyond the Appalachian Mountains, and settlers poured into
the region. At the same time, states set up governments and the country began to establish the

Social Class And Socio-Economic Class
Socio economic class has an extensive social influence on language variation (Meyerhoff and
Schleef, 2010 pg. 392). Individuals of higher socio economic class typically have a greater
income in which can be further invested in higher education. Consecutively, those who are
educated tend to use more of the standard form of language and in contrast, speakers with lower
educational levels tend to use more of the non standard language (Meyerhoff and Schleef, 2010
pg. 415). Among the various social classes of the socio economic hierarchy, the use of standard
and non standard forms of language can vary greatly. The data from Trudgill (1995) demonstrates
the percentage of appearances of three non standard variants ((ng): [n], (t): [?], (h): [0]) in 5 socio
economic classes in the UK. What is defined as a social classdepends on many different factors.
Occupation, home value, personal wealth, aspirations to social mobility and various other factors
need to be considered when determining one s social class. The levels in the hierarchy of social
class are also affected depending on the region. In the adapted Trudgill study (1995) that took
place in the UK, the socio economic classes that they observed were the middle middle class
(MMC), lower middle class (LMC), upper working class (UWC), middle working class (MWC)
and LWC (LWC). The Trudgill study (1995) demonstrates the usage of non standard variants in the
UK that differ significantly across the social classes. The current analysis of data adapted from
Trudgill (1995) investigates the differences between the social classes and their varying association
with the usage of the three non standard variants in the UK.
Trudgill s hierarchy of social classes in the UK include 5 social classes: MMC, LMC, UWC,
MWC and LWC. Within these social classes there are many differences. According to Trudgill
(1995), the MMC highly value education and culture and is politically and socially engaged.
Individuals within this class typically are employed as doctors, accountants, social workers or
managers. The LMC tend to live in the suburbs and are employed in service industry jobs or in
regional government. Among the working class, the UWC may be tradesmen or work in industrial
jobs. The

Taking a Look at Ecotourism
Some of the definitions of ecotourism have proved popular in recent years. Although any number of
principles of ecotourism can be devised, an analysis of definitions such as these indicates that three
dimensions can represent the main essence of the concept. According to this interpretation,
ecotourism is:
nature based,
environmentally educated, and
sustainably managed.
The last dimension is taken to encompass both the natural and cultural environments involved in
supplying the ecotourism experience (Blamey, 2001). Thus, where Ross and Wall (1999) outline
five fundamental functions of ecotourism; namely:
i.protection of natural areas; ii. education; iii. generation of money; iv. quality tourism; and
v.local participation.
The seemingly endless definitional rhetoric has not only caused mass confusion for the operational
side of the industry, but it has also proved a challenge in terms of identifying legitimacy. In this
way, the major struggle has been a matter of operational implementation and monitoring (Donohoe,
2006; Ross and Wall, 1999; Russell and Wallace, 2004). The actual application of a given
ecotourism definition then often takes the form of adhering to a corresponding set of principles.
Honey (2008) advocates for the all or nothing principle, meaning authentic ecotourism is only
present if all of the predetermined principles are in effect.
Conversely, Orams (1995) views the application of ecotourism on a spectrum with the level of
human

ups while depression refers to the downs . A lot of people actually experience erratic changes in
their moods, some times, these so called mood swings may not just be caused by PMS (pre

Whenever a person feels so guilty over something, that actually makes one a very sad person
who feels like he or she doesn t deserve to be happy. Thus, the loss of self worth, if that person
feels like he or she isn t worthy of being happy or enjoying one s self then that s clear tell tale
symptom of depression. Helplessness also contribute to being depressed, when assuming that
things won t simply go your way, it s already a clear saying that you have absolutely no hope in
your body at all.
There s no reason to worry too much about it, just follow the proper procedures that the therapist
will instruct you to do, take the proper prescribed medications as well as the proper dosage in
order to help you (or your friend or love one) overcome Manic depression before it becomes too
late. Also, individuals who are suffering from Manic depression should always be able to see
their therapists on a regular basis so as to be able to release their pent up emotions to some one
who can interpret and understand what they re going to a lot better as compared to normal

Technology Dbq
Why do you think we are advanced in technology today? It all started years ago, when the first
humans Adam and Eve were on earth and were capable of communicating with one another.
Than flash forward to 8,000 years ago, the first evidence of an alphabet was found from the
Phoenician around 1500 BCE. People started to write on papyrus and then they started to write on
scrolls. Monks started to write on books in a room known as a scriptorium. The scriptorium was
also known as a copying room. In 600 CE the Chinese introduced the woodblock printing. This was
difficult for the Chinese because they had to carve 50,000 characters on wood and eventually the
carve letters would wear out. A man named Johannes Gutenberg saw his chance to make something

To recap, the printing press was a phenomenal and a unique apparatus. It was constructed by a
goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg. The printing press made the lives of everyone simple, it
was used for printing things. It was a big advancement during this time period. It was auspicious
and many famous people used it such as Martin Luther. Martin Luther used it because he was
disappointed with his church because they were selling indulgences. The printing press made it
possible for Luther to copy 95 theses and nail them in the front door. The 95 these were known all
through out, this would be impossible without the printing press to make the 95 Theses known
throughout Germany in two weeks and throughout Europe in a month. . Although one of the
consequences of the printing press was exploration, reformation was the most important because
the printing press made people more literate and created new believes. They had a better
understanding of the Bible and were able to tell if the pope was lying to them or not. This is why
the most important consequence of the printing press was

Alan Turing s War
Alan Turing was a renowned modern mathematician and cryptologist who became known as the
father of computer science and eventually became a gay rights icon for his persecution due to his
homosexuality. He was also extremely important in winning the second world war, developing the
world s п¬Ѓrst computer to combat and break the German message encrypting Enigma machine. In
fact, Winston Churchill, one of the most prominent п¬Ѓgures of World War II, let alone the 20th
century, said that Turing made the single biggest contribution to Allied victory in the war against
Nazi Germany and its Axis partners. Without Alan Turing, the Allies wouldn t be able to know the
Nazi plans and could very likely have lost the war. Turing, too, developed the idea of... Show more

He began a relationship with a man named Arnold Murray, having him over to his apartment on
frequent occasions. Murray later helped an accomplice break into Turing s house and steal many
valuable, amongst them, although thought to be unknown to the thieves, highly classified
documents. Turing reported the crime and admitted to having a sexual relationship with Murray.
At the time, homosexuality was illegal in the UK and so Turing was charged with gross
indecency. He was then given the choice of being imprisoned or chemically castrated with
estrogen hormone injections, choosing the latter. Turing s conviction also meant his security
clearance was revoked and he was barred from his cryptographic consultancy for the British
government. The treatments subjected him to years of pain and mental relapses from the
hormonal imbalance, acting like a daily form of chemical torture. His once amazing brilliance
slowly began to wither as he became psychologically traumatized from the drugs. He began to
shake frequently as if he had Parkinson s disease and at one point stabbed himself in his leg with a
knife. Finally, on June 8th, 1954, Turing s cleaner found him dead. It appeared that Turing
committed suicide and poisoned himself using a cyanide laced apple. In 1966, the annual Turing
Award was established and given each year to a person for technical contributions to the computing
community. It is generally viewed as important as the Nobel Prize. And, in September

  • 2. Conflict Theory And Social Learning Theory Fruitvale Station Jenna Shirley University of New England Fruitvale Station is a movie that has the capability to bring many emotions to the surface. This movie can foster critical thinking, but it can also draw the viewer in to experience the raw emotions and suspenseful moments of this real life story. Unfortunately, Oscar Grant s life was ended abruptly after he spent the night celebrating the New Year with his friends and girlfriend, Sophina. From this story, it is clear that Oscar was attempting to change his story by being a better father to his daughter, Tatiana, thinking about marrying Sophina, and better providing for his family by getting a stable job and being a man that his mother and sister could rely upon. While the incident that occurred at Fruitvale Station could be analyzed from any variety of theories, this paper will examine these events from the lens of Conflict Theory and Social Learning Theory. These theories intertwine in many ways, but they also differ from each other in very important aspects. Fruitvale Station is a cinema depiction of a true story involving the death of Oscar Grant in a train station in Oakland, California during the early morning hours of January 1, 2009. This incident has sparked many civil rights related protests and discussions. Oscar Grant was survived by his mother, who has been very vocal since the incident, fighting for equal rights for minorities, his sister, and his daughter, Tatiana (Johnson). Conflict Theory ... • 3. The United States Military Bases For roughly 1% of the United States population, the past 10 years have been an ever changing experience serving across the world. On September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by a terrorist organization residing in Afghanistan. The United States Armed forces were called upon to fight a war against terrorism. In May 2003, this conflict extended to Iraq, which was acting as a safe zone for many of the world s terrorists. Since that time, more than 70,000 contractors and sub contractors have been hired by the Department of the Defense, in order to assist the United States militaryin their mission against terrorism. These individuals known as the TCN s or third country nationals, take part in everything from base security to cooking and laundry. However, since these individuals are not United States citizens and the government has turned its back to them. Personal knowledge, department of defense reports, and official law reviews contain a wide variety of information that give a look inside what has been happening on the United States military bases. Allegations of human trafficking, sexual assault, and indentured servitude are all common issues these TCN s have endured. In 2001, the Pentagon began taking in contract offers from companies around the United States. Private contracting firms such as KBR Inc. or Prime Project International began receiving over 15 billion dollars a year. Foreign conflicts can be very profitable for large businesses that invest time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Corrective Action for Disrespecting Higher Ranking... This essay is on tact, professionalism, respect and disrespect, as part of my corrective action for disrespecting higher ranking military personal. I will start this essay off with defining each of the subjects so that the reader may have a full understanding on what each mean. Tact is the first subject on which I am suppose to include in this essay, tact is defined as a keen sense of what to say or do to avoid giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations. The second definition needed for this essay is on professionalism; professionalism is defined as professional character, spirit, or methods. Given that there are three main points to that definition, character is the key phrase to take from that definition for it pertains more to this essay then spirit or methods. The third definition needed is on respect, and the most suited definition for respect as it pertains to this essay is, deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment. With the definition of respect given, the last and most important definition is disrespect. Disrespect is defined as to regard or treat without respect; regard or treat with contempt or rudeness. Tact in my opinion is the way you handle yourself in situations that you do not agree with or support. In the military you will face many situations that you may not understand or agree with and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Microtask Crowdsourcing Has Been Applied In Many Fields Microtask crowdsourcing has been applied in many fields in the past decades, however there are still important challenges not fully addressed, especially in task/workflow de sign and quality assessment. We take a deeper look at crowdsourcing classification tasks and explore how task and workflow design can impact the quality of the classification result. Our research will use large online knowledge base and citizen science projects as examples and investigate the workflow design considerations and its impact on worker performance as well as overall quality outcome based on statistical, probabilistic, or machine learning models for true label prediction, such that design principles can be recommended and applied in other citizen science... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the wisdom of crowd (Howe, 2006) has shown great potentials in these areas, it also exhibits many challenges (Kittur et al., 2013; Buettner and Buettner, 2016) no matter it is via volunteered activities (Lease, 2011; Newman et al., 2012) or paid microtask crowdsourcing (Kittur et al., 2013; Demartini, 2015; Bernaschina et al., 2015). In a typical microtask crowdsourcing scenario, from the requester s point of view, the most important challenges include: 1, task and workflow design to make sure that it is easy to be carried out by non expert workers, and at the same time risk of spammers or low quality workers can be mitigated to achieve good quality of result; 2, quality assessment approaches to evaluate the work from crowd workers. Task and workflow design (Little et al., 2010b; Kittur et al., 2011; Demartini et al., 2012) are crucial in ensuring the task to be outsourced to the crowd is properly understood, mitigating the chance of spam and keeping users engaged. They are essential to obtain high quality and quantity of input from crowd workers. Quality assessment techniques can be either on the fly (Ipeirotis et al., 2014) during the task running that can be used to optimize task assignment hence reduce cost, or post aggregation (Whitehill et al., 2009; Ipeirotis et al., 2010; Bachrach et al., 2012; Difallah et al., 2015) which involves various algorithms and strategies that evaluate how ... • 6. Living On This Planet Has Its Ups And Down Living on this planet has its ups and down. When I noticed the #ReasonsToLeaveEarth trending on twitter today, I thought to myself I have to write about that . So, here you go. My Top 6 Reasons to Leave Earth: #6 BILLS I mean, really, I hate to spend money. My dad taught me a lot of thing about money: here are the top two. Number one is to hold on to as much of it as you can, especially when you are young, because life isn t just about today. You need to have some wiggle room when life throws you a curve ball and you need to have a way to take care of yourself when you are old. Number two is that even though you should save, you have to spend money to make money (I hate dislike this very much). If you want to start a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Think of how much more productive we could be. Think of how much we miss while we are asleep for eight hours of our day (if we are lucky, that is). To be able to call somewhere home where I didn t need to sleep in order to survive and function? Now, that would be a dream (pun intended пЃЉ ). #3 FOOD I enjoy cooking, especially when I get to make something really delicious. But the need to have a balance sometimes gets in the way of my fun in the kitchen. I would be very much ok with leaving for a place where calories didn t count and everything tasted amazing! #2 PAIN AND SUFFERING No one likes to be sick or suffer. It breaks my heart to see my daughter fall and hurt herself or spend the night throwing up (and even worse if my hubby and I are throwing up too). And of course on this planet there is emotional suffering too. People are constantly fighting. No one seems to be able to get along for more than ten seconds. It doesn t matter if you are leaders of countries with opposing values or a husband and wife who can t decide on the color to pain the shutters tension is everywhere. I want to leave earth for a place where my family and I wouldn t have to deal with all the pain and suffering that life on this planet has been dealing us all these years. AND #1 INCOMPLETE I am incomplete here. Jesus Christ started a work in me when I chose to follow Him and make Him LORD of my life. That work won t be finished until I am face to face with Him in ... The Comparison between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Theory There are very distinct differences between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling but both ultimately offer the help and guidance to discover why we act the way we do and why we make certain choices in our lives. Throughout this essay, I will endeavour to explain those major differences and you will see that despite these completely different methods of therapy, depending on what the problem maybe, they can both work very effectively in their own way. Perls did not belive in a single particular theory. He thought you should always just go with the flow and work with what you have and what is happening in the now. The emphasis is on what is being done, thought and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should be. Perls believed in minipulating the client, bringing them out of their comfort zone and challenging them. To own what you say and do and to be aware of unconscious actions/words. In the 1950 s Eric Berne began to develop his theories of Transactional Analysis. He said that verbal communication, particularly face to face, is at the centre of human social relationships and psychoanalysis. His starting point was that when two people encounter each other, one of them will speak to the other. This he called the Transaction Stimulus. The reaction from the other person he called the Transaction Response. The person sending the Stimulus is called the Agent. The person who responds is called the Respondent. Transactional Analysis became the method of examining the transaction wherein: I do something to you, and you do something back . John D Rockefeller had an enormous impact on America, as he provided the perfect image for the American dream. Since he came from a humble beginning, he came from a small town in New York and his father practiced herbal medicine and cured people in the area. He then was sent to a Clevelandbusiness school and started work as a clerk in a shipping firm. He then saved enough money to start his own business, but quickly sold that business and got into the oil industry. He then innovated the oil business by creating new ways to produce products out of the waste product of making kerosene. He quickly made a huge profit and then created horizontal integration by creating many trusts with other businesses in the oil industry to create a monopoly. Rockefeller was the first to create a monopoly in American business and revolutionized the way businesses interacted. The transition from one stage to another, or the progression within a stage is based on the actions of the Buddhist. All actions are simply the display of thought, the will of man. This will is caused by character, and character is manufactured from karma. Karma means action or Owing. Any kind of intentional action whether mental, verbal or physical is regarded as karma. The film, loosely based on real life events, is a commentary on the cyclical nature of violencein the titular City of God, a slum located in Rio de Janeiro. The film chooses to document the rise and fall of crimein Rio de Janeiro that took place from the 1960s to the 1980s and the lives of inner city kids involved in it. It toys with themes of cyclical and inescapable violence; suffocation; and the inexorable nature of poverty and involvement in a life of organized crime and gang activities through the employment of several editing techniques throughout the length of the film such as split frame simultaneous shots, quick and violent cuts, and POV shots. Notably, these techniques are primarily used when shooting Rocket, the main character of the film and a member of the favela. Rocket s place in the story is the main vessel for pushing these themes in the story as the film chooses to focus on his emotions regarding the favela. Doubt John Patrick Shanley Essay Besides earning a Pulitzer Prize, John Patrick Shanley achieved another unique feat with his play, Doubt he expertly crafted a story whose conclusion ultimately lies within the mind and imagination of the reader. Doubt is a play confined within the walls of a Catholic school during the 1960s. It presents a tense clash between Father Flynn, a gregarious priest at the school who advocates progressive ideas and empathy for transgression; and Sister Aloysius, the draconian, stalwartly traditional principal who steadily becomes more and more certain that Flynn has been sexually abusing a student. The story is artfully hewn, ending in a type of purgatory between doubt and certainty that leaves the reader to untangle the web woven by Shanley. Thus, two readers may read the same words formed into the same sentences, but reach polar conclusions regarding the guilt of Father Flynn. The book is the second book in a series of three describing the rollercoaster life of Kristina Georgia Snow while on drugs. The free verse poetry books were very largely inspired by Hopkins daughter s own drug addiction(Goodreads). Her daughter, Cristal was very much like Kristina from the story. She became addicted to the same drug as Kristina and even had a child that was later adopted by Hopkins, just like the character from the story (Hopkins). The poem is written in a very interesting way. If someone were to read the poem straight across as literature is meant to be read, the poem would be very descriptive and tell a short story on just one page. But with many of Hopkins works, if the poem is read just using the stand alone words or phrases on the right, a new poem is born. This new poem is a much creepier summary of the larger poem. In this case the new poem reads, my dive into insanity, no longer perfect, Kristina became the monster (Hopkins). The entire poem has a very dark mood. It has very deep traces of helplessness and a misplaced self identity for the narrator. The tone shifts a few times, but throughout it shares the same darkness of the mood. First there is anger, then sadness and, finally complete vulnerability. Any piece of literature that talks about an addict of any sort, tends to be very dark and depressing. This poem is no exception to that idea. If a person was new to the works of Ellen Hopkins, they might not be aware of the fact that her books are poetry. The free versestyle lends itself well to the writing of a novel, but it is not the type of rhyming poetry that most people are used to. It seems more like a book than a poem at first, yet if reread the poetic nature is made more noticeable. Hopkins has stated that she doesn t plan out her books beforehand because her poetry has to flow naturally and too much planning messes with the natural flow of things (Hopkins). He moves in with his older brother (the story s narrator) and his brother s family. The two brothers sort of reconnect after a very tense few weeks during which both try to deal with their anger towards each other. Drugs are a central part of the story, but it s also about family, music, and trying to overcome life s struggles. While Sonny s Blues is a full of symbolism, light appears in many forms throughout Sonny s Blues as moonlight, as a spotlight, sometimes even as the absence of light, and images... Then he put it back on top of the piano. For me, then, as they began to play again, it glowed and shook above my brother s head like the very cup of trembling. (Kennedy 23 4 24) The cup of trembling is a reference to a biblical verse about God s wrath: whoever possesses it is said to be in God s judgment or disfavor. There has been much debate about this reference in regard to Sonny s and the narrator s suffering, but it is arguably a link to grace as well. The narrator has passed this cup from himself, and though this could be seen as a passing of God s disfavor to Sonny, it is figurative of the grace that now permeates their relationship. It rests on the piano, not in his hand, as a reminder of how Sonny was once out of his brother s unwarranted favor but how he is now forgiven and understood by him. Grace s death is at once a symbol of failure and falling from grace and of grace restored. The collapse of grace is the very thing that keeps Sonny and the narrator apart, but it is the fall of Grace that ultimately leads to their reunion. (Stone, C. 2013) Scholars and critics tend to infer this passage as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Taking a Look at Spinal Shock The term spinal shock was first defined by Whytt in 1750 as a loss of sensation accompanied by motor paralysis with the initial loss but gradual recovery of reflexes following a spinal cord injury . Spinal shock occurs due to there being a sudden loss of conductivity of electrical signals in the spinal cord, since the potassium ions move from the intracellular space to the extracellular space. When this occurs the body cannot effectively send nerve signal impulses to control automatic reflexes below the site of the spinal cord injury. The symptoms of spinal shock patients are that there are complications such as hypotension because the sympathetic nervous system is unable to regulate vascular tone (contraction of the blood vessels). This is usually the case when the injury is in the cervical spinal cord. Other symptoms include: flexor spasms, tetraplegia, and paraplegia, atonic paralysis and many other symptoms such as a pounding headache and excessive sweating (Patient Education Institute). There are four main phases of spinal shock. They are Hyporeflexia that is due to loss of descending facilitation which is the first phase that last for approximately a day. The second phase initial reflex returns and denervation super sensitivity which occurs within 1 3 days of the spinal shock (Silver, 1970). The third phase takes up to four weeks it s the initial Hyperreflexia with axon supported synapse growth. The last phase is the Hyperreflexia and spasticity through ... • 40. Lab Report Physics RESULTS AND ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION Overall, there were little to no complications for this experiment. There were modifications made to the first part of this lab, the student written portion. One change was the distances. In the original written procedure, see Attachment 02 of this report, the distances for all parts were noted as; next to the heatsource, 5 inches away, and 10 inches away. After testing these measurements in the lab, the distances were alter to be next to, 2 inches away, and 5 inches away. This was done in order to produce more prominent temperatureresults. The distances for the 10 precision measurements were also modified. Originally the student was to take measurements for 80 seconds, starting at 2 inches away from the heat... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The average temperature of the human body is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. By calculating the mean of the temperatures taken, through the ears, of the two thermometers, the Braun got the closest with 98.44 F in the right ear and 97.51 F in the left, when compared to the Proven with 97.24 F in the right and 96.42 F in the left. The Proven had a higher accuracy when measuring the temperature of the forehead with the sensor cap, illustrating that, for this device, it is better to measure temperature through the forehead than in the ears. Through this observation it can be concluded that the Braun thermometer is better for measuring a person s core body temperature. This could be due to the overall design and application of each thermometer. The Braun thermometer measured temperature solely in through the ears, while the Proven thermometer is modified to measure temperature either through the ears or on the forehead. This could lead to a more accurate reading of the Braun thermometer, since it s focused on a single place. When measuring the cool tap water in the second part of this experiment, the alcohol thermometer presented a reading of 60.8 F (16 C) and the Proven thermometer produced a reading of 63.1 F (16.3 C). There was not a huge difference between the two readings, given that one is meant to read the infrared wavelengths of the human body. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Asynchronous Technologies Support Learning And Teaching Now that the LMS for the organization has been identified, the committee will determine the different assets that can be integrated into the LMS. The committee must also decide if the material will be delivered to the students synchronously, asynchronously, or as a combination of the two. Synchronous learning environments support learning and teaching and offer students and teachers with multiple ways of interacting, sharing, and the ability to collaborate and ask questions in real time through synchronous learning technologies. Examples of synchronous online technology types include videoconferencing, webcasts, interactive learning models, and telephone conferences (Er et al., 2009; eLearners.com, 2012). In an asynchronous learning environment students are able to actively participate in their own learning, giving them the opportunity to interact with their peers, provide peer feedback, and reflect on the status of their personal learning goals and outcomes (Harris et al., 2009; Simonson et al., 2012). Asynchronous technologies support learning and allow more time for student reflection, collaboration, and student to student interactions (Skylar, 2009; Meloni, 2010). According to Meloni (2010) asynchronous communication and learning is by far the more popular learning type because many of the learning tools are free, require minimal hardware, and are used at the student s pace. Recent research into the usage and efficacy of synchronous tools has indicated that these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. White Trash Primer Analysis Lacy M. Johnson and Amy Tan came from two entirely different backgrounds. Johnson had come from a southern, rural family, while Tan had come from a Chinese family living in America. Johnson wrote the short story White Trash Primer, which is from the book Trespasses: A Memoir, and Tan s Two Kinds is an excerpt from her book The Joy Luck Club . Even though these authors are entirely different, they share similar qualities in their writing styles such as language, imagery and symbolism. They also share a connected message which is that whatever you do, no matter if it is something hard or if you are going through hard times, as long as you try your best you will be able to achieve your goal. In Johnson s White Trash Primer, Johnson tells the story of living on a farm, growing up in a poor family and going through hard times. Johnson tells how she overcomes the obstacles that she had to deal with in her life. This leaves the reader with the message that, no matter how hard life is, as long as you push through you will be able to do anything you set your mind to. Because the colonies were so far away it took months for news from Britain to reach them they saw self government as a right when Britain had such a loose reign over them That all changed when the British controlled all of the land from the Appalachians to the Mississippi River and Canada after the French Indian war (1754 63) The war left them... • 46. Social Class And Socio-Economic Class Socio economic class has an extensive social influence on language variation (Meyerhoff and Schleef, 2010 pg. 392). Individuals of higher socio economic class typically have a greater income in which can be further invested in higher education. Consecutively, those who are educated tend to use more of the standard form of language and in contrast, speakers with lower educational levels tend to use more of the non standard language (Meyerhoff and Schleef, 2010 pg. 415). Among the various social classes of the socio economic hierarchy, the use of standard and non standard forms of language can vary greatly. The data from Trudgill (1995) demonstrates the percentage of appearances of three non standard variants ((ng): [n], (t): [?], (h): [0]) in 5 socio economic classes in the UK. What is defined as a social classdepends on many different factors. Occupation, home value, personal wealth, aspirations to social mobility and various other factors need to be considered when determining one s social class. The levels in the hierarchy of social class are also affected depending on the region. In the adapted Trudgill study (1995) that took place in the UK, the socio economic classes that they observed were the middle middle class (MMC), lower middle class (LMC), upper working class (UWC), middle working class (MWC) and LWC (LWC). The Trudgill study (1995) demonstrates the usage of non standard variants in the UK that differ significantly across the social classes. The current analysis of data adapted from Trudgill (1995) investigates the differences between the social classes and their varying association with the usage of the three non standard variants in the UK. Trudgill s hierarchy of social classes in the UK include 5 social classes: MMC, LMC, UWC, MWC and LWC. Within these social classes there are many differences. According to Trudgill (1995), the MMC highly value education and culture and is politically and socially engaged. Individuals within this class typically are employed as doctors, accountants, social workers or managers. The LMC tend to live in the suburbs and are employed in service industry jobs or in regional government. Among the working class, the UWC may be tradesmen or work in industrial jobs. The ... • 47. Taking a Look at Ecotourism Some of the definitions of ecotourism have proved popular in recent years. Although any number of principles of ecotourism can be devised, an analysis of definitions such as these indicates that three dimensions can represent the main essence of the concept. According to this interpretation, ecotourism is: nature based, environmentally educated, and sustainably managed. The last dimension is taken to encompass both the natural and cultural environments involved in supplying the ecotourism experience (Blamey, 2001). Thus, where Ross and Wall (1999) outline five fundamental functions of ecotourism; namely: i.protection of natural areas; ii. education; iii. generation of money; iv. quality tourism; and v.local participation. The seemingly endless definitional rhetoric has not only caused mass confusion for the operational side of the industry, but it has also proved a challenge in terms of identifying legitimacy. In this way, the major struggle has been a matter of operational implementation and monitoring (Donohoe, 2006; Ross and Wall, 1999; Russell and Wallace, 2004). The actual application of a given ecotourism definition then often takes the form of adhering to a corresponding set of principles. Honey (2008) advocates for the all or nothing principle, meaning authentic ecotourism is only present if all of the predetermined principles are in effect. Conversely, Orams (1995) views the application of ecotourism on a spectrum with the level of human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Turing s conviction also meant his security clearance was revoked and he was barred from his cryptographic consultancy for the British government.
