Discussion Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of a "Discussion Essay" can present both challenges and
opportunities. On one hand, the open-ended nature of the assignment allows for exploration of
various perspectives and arguments. However, this same flexibility can be daunting, as it requires
a careful balance between presenting a coherent argument and addressing potential
counterarguments.
The difficulty lies in the need to critically analyze a given topic, evaluate different viewpoints,
and construct a well-structured essay that not only presents one's own stance but also engages
with opposing ideas. This involves thorough research, the ability to synthesize information, and
effective communication skills. Crafting a compelling thesis statement that guides the entire
discussion is essential, as it sets the tone for the essay and clarifies the writer's position.
Moreover, a discussion essay demands a refined writing style to convey complex ideas clearly.
Striking the right balance between being persuasive and remaining objective can be challenging,
as can avoiding logical fallacies or biases that might weaken the overall argument.
While the task may seem daunting, the process of writing a discussion essay offers a valuable
opportunity for intellectual growth. It encourages critical thinking, research skills, and the ability
to articulate ideas persuasively. Overcoming these challenges can result in a more profound
understanding of the topic and improved writing proficiency.
For those seeking assistance or looking to alleviate some of the difficulties associated with
writing essays, various resources are available. Professional writing services, like

Hell You Talmbout Analysis
Hell You Talmbout , a new protest song from Janelle MonГ

collective, is striking in its simplicity. MonГЎe (along with fellow Wondaland
member Jidenna) made headlines yesterday for marching in Philadelphia against
police brutality, and this song sounds like an extension of that march. Drums
dominate the scene; they are at once tribal but organized, like a powerfully primal
marching band. The lyrics are simple as well, but there s nothing more to say

The Mafia s Money Laundering
Money Laundering
The term money laundering is said to create from Mafia possession of Laundromats
in the United States. Gangsters there were earning huge sums in cash from extortion,
prostitution, gambling and bootleg liquor. They needed to demonstrate a legitimate
source for these monies.
Money laundering is the process by which criminals try to conceal the true origion
and ownership of the proceeds of their criminal activity, allowing them to maintain
control over the proceeds and, in the end, providing a legitimate cover for their
sources of income .
In the 1980 s, money laundering was considered only as interest basically with drug
trackling backgrund. It created trouble in western society, because the profit genration
was increasing from criminal activities. Therefore, there was a force from society to
take action against drug dealers by introducing legislation that would remove them of
their illegal gains.
Government soon identified that criminal organizations, which made massive profits
from drugs, could corrupt the system of state at all levels.
Money laundering is a worldwide trend, supported by international society which is a
24hrs a day business. If one closes, another opens for business.
As a 1993 UN Report noted: The essential features of laundering of profits of crime
are its global nature, the flexibility and adapbility of its operations. These make the
crime in an organized manner. Moreover, a very important point which should not be
ignored at any cost
Ruby Jewelry
July has arrived, which means if you haven t already, it s time to get your loved one s
birthday gift. With the ruby being the July birthstone, purchasing them ruby
jewelry would be ideal. You might want to rush out the door to the jewelry store, but
before you do that, you should ask yourself a few questions to ensure you get your
loved one the perfect piece of jewelry. Here are a few tips for buying ruby jewelry
from a jewelry store in Sterling Heights, MI for a loved one s July birthday. Do they
wear jewelry?: Before you head out to the jewelry store to pick pui loved one a great
piece of ruby jewelry, you want to be sure that this person will actually wear. You

Do they tend to dress up or dress down? Maybe their personal style is in between.
From trendy and chic to sexy and elegant, whatever you choose should stick to this
and be something they can easily wear and completes their look. What is their
lifestyle?: A person s lifestyle can affect a lot of things, including whether or not
they wear jewelry and what kind of jewelry they can wear. You don t want to just
take into account what they do on their free time, think about their profession. For
example, if someone is a chef, they will constantly be using their hands. It might be
better to purchase a necklace or earrings instead of a ring that they will rarely get
the chance to wear. Is there anything they don t currently have in their jewelry
collection?: It is always a good idea to purchase something that people don t
already have when you are getting them a gift. Even when buying them jewelry, you
want to be sure they don t currently own the piece you plan to buy or that they don t
have anything similar. Buying the exact same piece of jewelry or something similar
to a piece they already own might lead to you heading back to jewelry store to find

How Mayans Intertwine With Astronomy
Are we Alone? the history of astronomy has shaped the course of human society,
connecting science with human spirituality and sense of wonder at the unimaginable
vastness of the cosmos . (Shuttleworth). Astronomy is the branch of science that deals
with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe. Ancient astronomers
attempted to explain religionrather than explain natural phenomenon. Religion can
be defined as a belief in, or an acknowledgement of some superhuman power or
powers (ex. a god or gods) which is typically manifested in obedience, reverence,
and worship; such a belief as part of a system defining a code of living, esp. as a
means of achieving spiritual or material improvement. Religion, in the early times,
helped to explain natural phenomenon, for instance, the stars,... Show more content on

Astronomy impacted civilizations throughout history in such a way that affected
daily life, for example, Halley s Comet always seems to bring fear, destruction and
rebirth, it sometimes served as a warning, indicating that either a person of royal
standing had died, or that dark days lay ahead (Williams). The Mayans used priests
and astrologers to measure time. This paper investigates how the Mayan culture
intertwine with astronomy. Several of their inventions such as the solar calendar and
the Pacal s tomb. The paper also addresses the scientific belief that religion is not
necessary due to advancements of technology and knowledge. The scope of this
investigation begins by explaining some aspect of the Mayan Culture and providing
examples of how astronomy and their beliefs intertwined. The essay furthers
investigates the relationship between Mayan culture and astronomy as its arguments.
This essay explains the counterargument, the reason why some scientists believe
religion is no longer need it. As time and technology advanced scientists became more
skeptic about religion and spirituality, driving religion and astronomy
##bolic Implications Of JesusExorcism In The Bible
In the synoptic gospels, Jesus exorcisms are portrayed as one of the major acts in
Jesus mission to the kingdom of God. The gospels not only narrate Jesus casting
out the demons and cleansing the possessed bodies, but also implicitly suggests the
controversy he evokes among the Jewish and Roman authorities of Judea and
Galilee. The context of New Testament Gospels is deeply rooted in the Greco
Roman world and as such paints the background of the Jesus actions and messages.
Several scholarly publications that analyze biblical texts from the social science
perspective have established a relationship between the politics and religion of the
ancient world.
The aim of this paper is to assess the events of demon possession and exorcism
narrated in the Bible not from a theological perspective but from sociopolitical
standpoint. Drawing references from scholarly publications on Bible, this paper
would investigate the symbolic meanings of Jesus exorcism in socio political sphere
of Galilee and Judea at the very beginning of the first century. This paper heavily
relies upon the concepts proposed by Amanda Witmer in her publication Jesus, the
Galilean Exorcist, His Exorcisms in Social and Political Context.
The historically accurate reconstruction of Jesus is extremely improbable. This is
largely due to the limited quantity of resources survived and those that do, New
Testament Gospels, are written under the lens of religious followers. As such, there
exists great challenge in
Stanislavsky s Invention Of Stanislavsky And The
Imagination
Stanislavsky and the Imagination
Konstantin Stanislavsky, born in 1863 Russia was an actor and well known theatre
practitioner whose main principle of theatre was the development of naturalism,
called the Stanislavsky method .
Being born into a wealthy family Stanislavsky had the privilege of partaking in
acting from a young age, performing in his parent s acting company, the Alekseyev
Circle. During the late 19th century, Stanislavsky travelled around the globe to learn
about different rehearsal processes at the Comedie Francaise. [1]
His influences and experiences as a youngster led him to create his own theatre
company: the Moscow Art Theatre (est. 1898). Here he designed his unique system
and introduced and combined realism within European trends at that time.
During the decades, method acting became a popularised technique in large
communities as the Moscow Theatre underwent a world tour in areas of Europe and
United States. Once the tour had ended, many of the members decided to leave and
go on to create the Group Theatre, which included actors like Lee Strasberg and
Stella Adler. After this many went on to form the Actors Studio. [2]
The System
The Stanislavsky system is used to portray the naturalistic and realistic elements of
life and people within theatre. The system allowed actors to draw in their own
experiences to create natural and believable characters. There are few aspects towards
the Stanislavsky system, also known as the Method System .

Soil and General Term Landslides
LANDSLIDES
Introduction
The term landslide includes all varieties of mass movements of hill slopes and can
be defined as the downward and outward movement of slope forming materials
composed of rocks, soils, artificial fills or combination of all these materials along
surfaces of separation by falling, sliding and flowing, either slowly or quickly from
one place to another. Although the landslides are primarily associated with
mountainous terrains, these can also occur in areas where an activity such as surface
excavations for highways, buildings and open pit mines takes place.
Landslide is a general term for a wide variety of down slope movements of earth
materials that result in the perceptible downward and outward movement of ... Show

Effects of landslides
In hilly terrains of India, Himalayan Mountains, Western Ghats and northeastern part,
landslides have been one of the major natural disasters that strike life and property
almost perennially. These landslides, year after year, bring about untold misery to
human settlements apart from causing devastating damages of transportation and
communication network.
(i)Landslides cause property damage: Injury and death and adversely effect a variety
of resources. For example, water supplies, fisheries, sewage disposal systems, forests,
dams and roadways can be affected for year after a slide event.
(ii)The negative economic effects of landslides: It include the cost to repair
structures, loss of property value, disruption of transportation routes, medical posts in
the even of injury, and indirect costs such as lost timber and lost fish stocks.
(iii)Quantity and quality: Water availability, Quantity and quality can be affected by
landslides. Geotechnical studies and engineering projects to assess and stabilize
potentially dangerous sites can be costly. Large, infrequent landslides contribute less
to personal and property losses than do the smaller, more frequent slides and debris
torrents in populated areas.
Every year in India especially in mountainous regions landslides damage many
houses, buildings, roads, railways, pipelines, agricultural land and crops and cause the
Essay The Effect of pH on the Digestion of Casein by Trypsin
The Effect of pH on the Digestion of Casein by Trypsin
When planning the experiment, the equipment and method had to be well thought
out in order for the experiment to be accurate and efficient.
Firstly, I have chose to use a 1% trypsin concentration then altered it to 0.8%, because
a higher concentration means more trypsin molecules in the solution and therefore
more enzyme substrate complexes are likely to occur with the casein in the milk,
causing digestion of the casein to be faster. However, I don t wantowever digestion
to occur too quickly as I will not be able to analyse the effect of PH. Therefore, I
chose a lower concentration which would allow me to test the percentage

In addition, PH is the independent variable I am testing; therefore, its constancy is
important.
Variables in the experiment will need to be controlled and the following need to be
kept constant
* Concentration of trypsin
* Amounts of reagents
* Enzyme to substrate ratio
* Temperature
* Method of measuring solutions
I will use equal amounts of trypsin, milk, PH, buffer and distilled water in all the
experiments and will use the same measuring equipment to ensure fair representation
of the effect of different PH on digestion. If variables aren t adequately controlled
then the data collected would be erroneous and would not represent the true effects
of PH on digestion as altering variables could lead to changes in rate of reaction.
As we know the collision theory states that the more collisions in a system, the more
likely the molecules will react and therefore the faster the reaction. Rates of reaction
can be affected by variables such as concentration, as more molecules of the substance
are present therefore increasing the chance of a collision, another is temperature.
All enzymes have an optimum temperature at which they work the fastest, this is
because more kinetic energy is available and particles move faster resulting in more
collisions and hence more
Essay Classical Music
Classical Music
n : traditional genre of music conforming to an established form and appealing to
critical interest and developed musical taste [syn: serious music]
Classical music, as the name suggests, is a well established kind of music, at least in
the West. Classical music concerts take place in every cultural center, and they take
many forms, from a solo to large symphonic orchestras, from a sonata to an opera.
This kind of music has many fans, especially among circles of intellectuals. But how
did this great kind of music start? What made the great composers compose? And
how was this all used before the time of recorded music and portable mp3 players?
These are the questions we are going to examine today. ... Show more content on

The wealthy family provided him with his own small orchestra, and this gave him
the opportunity to produce very many compositions. He was inspired by every day
events, such as the times of day to write the triptych Morning, Noon and Evening ,
and by the seasons to compose The Seasons . He also composed the well known
symphony Farewell , to give the Esterhazy Prince a hint: that he was holding the
musicians for too long, and he had to give them some time off.
All his music was for the ears of a small, privileged audience, primarily for their own
amusement.
However, not all the great composers worked for wealthy families. Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart, a younger composer who Haydn considered as his only true peer
in music wanted his music to last in time, and be heard by larger groups of people.
This led him to produce many operas, and also religious music. He was inspired by
ancient Greek and Roman history and mythology, but also by comic events of the
every day life. However, he did not enjoy the same funding as Haydn, because of
lack of a permanent (wealthy) audience, and also because of the war that broke out in
Europe at the time.
Mozart s probably most famous composition is his unfinished Requiem , which
legend holds he wrote for his own death. Mozart s compositions were mainly played
(and still are) either to amuse people (comic operas), or as religious music. Some of

Other European scientists also fled various countries threatened by Nazi takeover and

In the summer of 1939, Einstein, along with another scientist, Leo Szilard, was
persuaded to write a letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt to alert him of the
possibility of a Nazi bomb. President Roosevelt could not risk the possibility that
Germany might develop an atomic bomb first. The letter is believed to be the key
factor that motivated the United States to investigate the development of nuclear
weapons. Roosevelt invited Einstein to meet with him and soon after the United

Not long after he began his career at the Institute in New Jersey, Albert Einstein

In 1935, Albert Einstein was granted permanent residency in the United States and

Lethal Injection Case
Lethal injections have been around for many years with the same basic idea and
procedure. Lethal injection uses three drugs, a fast acting barbiturate that sedates the
inmate and the drug Tubocurarine that paralyzes the inmate, and finally potassium
chloride is used to stop his heart. These methods have been a controversial issue for
many reasons. People that supports lethal injection believes that it is more humane
method of execution than any other because it cause little or no pain. It also argued
that it is less expensive than detaining or placing someone in jail for life. As far as

Effectiveness Of An Extraction Process And Purification...
In this experiment, the effectiveness of an extraction process and purification process
by sublimation is observed and used to selectively separate caffeine from teabags. In
the first part of the experiment, water soluble materials, including caffeine, within the
teabags are extracted into hot water because the solubilityof caffeinein water increases
as temperature increases. This is due to the concept that increasing kinetic energy
through increasing temperature will allow the molecules in the solute to break apart
from the intermolecular interactions more effectively. Afterwards, the solutionwas
filtered using a Buchner funnel to remove any solids from the liquid solution
containing the caffeine. Then, the solution is allowed to cool before the caffeine to
be extracted from the water by using methylene chloride, sodium chloride, and
anhydrous sodium sulfate as part of a liquid liquid extraction work up. Specifically,
this liquid liquid extraction distributes the caffeine into two solvents, methylene
chloride and water, which are insoluble and immiscible to each other. By using
density, solubility, and polarity differences of a solute in a pair of solvents, the
organic compound of interest can be transferred from one liquid phase to the other
during an extraction. Since the two solvents used are insoluble and immiscible to
each other, two layers, the organic layer and the aqueous layer, will form and can be
extracted to obtain the caffeine. Since caffeine is nonpolar,
American Jazz Artist Miles Davis Essay
Kind of Blue. This studio album released by American jazz artist Miles Davis is
heavily regarded as the quintessential and definitive jazz album. Many critics regard
it as jazz s greatest record and one of the best albums of all time. Along with
redefining and revolutionizing jazz, its influence on music has been unprecedented.
The music theory, style, and organization of Kind of Blue has been one of the biggest
influences on several genres since its creation; including but not limited to rock, funk,
fusion, indie, and hip hop. The culture of jazzis extremely unique in music, and
Davis s album changed that culture and changed the culture of several different
genres and music itself. To truly understand the massive legacy and influence
created by Kind of Blue, one would have go back to the beginning of jazz all the
way to modern music. Jazz might just be the most unique genre of music in the
world. Pairing true artistry and creativity with immense technicality and skill creates
music that is simply incomparable. Originating from the African American
communities of New Orleans in the 1910 s, jazz was a fresh new creation heavily
predominated by African Americans. Early forms featured brass bands playing a
ragtime and swing style of music, with improvisation, and unique and syncopated
rhythm and blues. Within music, syncopated means offbeat rhythm. While not
popular at first, this early form of jazz started becoming well liked and by the 1920 s
many artists were
Essay about Banning Books in Schools
School boards and teachers have a responsibility for protecting the minds of their
students and covering age appropriate material. However, does this responsibility
cover the extreme act of banning books from school classrooms? Does not the
teacher have a duty to introduce to their students world issues in order to better the
students ability to cope with problems in the world? How does a schooldecide which
books should be banned from the classroom, and should it be left up to the teacher to
decide what is decided in his/her classroom. By banning books from the classroom,
we prevent our students from learning about controversial topics in a safe

According to the American Library Association, the most common group of people,
challenging a book being read in schools, was the parents of the students. Parents
have a right to be in charge of what is put into the minds of their students, however
just because one parent objects does not mean that the whole school should ban the
book from the list. A solution for this book would be to enforce parental consent
for books to be read in the classroom. If a parent does not want a book to be read in
the classroom, then there should be other options for the student to read. The
school and teacher should not trespass on a parent s rights of raising their child. I
believe that if a parent has a concern, they should go and discuss the problem with
the teacher so that the teacher will be able to defend their reasoning for choosing the
book to be read in the classroom.
If a controversial book will be read in the classroom, it is the teacher s
responsibility to prepare the student for it. The teacher must ensure that the book is
age appropriate for the student, and is appropriate for the subject matter that the
teacher is covering. Reading books such as Catcher in The Rye without discussion
can be more harmful than helpful to a student. The Catcher in The Rye has obscene
language, violence, occult practices, and sexual references (Doyle 2010). This book
should only be read by a mature age group with a

provided me with detailed understanding of concepts that I needed more insight on
such as relational models, SQL, entity relationship modeling, and database design. In
this course it allowed to me understand how these concepts are all connected and how

by Giorgio Vasari in his book written in 1550 titled The Lives of the artists . Vasari
was contemporary to many famous Renaissance artists that we know about including
Michelangelo.
Giotto s Early work is seen in the freshness of the upper church of San Francisco in
Assisi. It is possible that he worked on the upper church with his teacher Cimabue.
Giotto took the expertise of his teacher and refined it into more naturalistic degree.
This can be seen in Cimabue s Madonna Enthroned with Angels and Prophets and
Giotto s Madonna Enthroned. Giotto s version had figures more rendered and there
is a refining of the features, the drapery and the painting as a whole, you can see the
light source coming from the single direction and illuminating the figures on each
side. This helps create sense of space and believability. This same painting was also
painted by another artist in Siena named Duccio.
The more mature work of Giotto which made him the leader in the development of
the western paining is the fresno s in the Arena Chapple. These painting were
executed as Fresco, a method whereby moist plaster was applied only to an area of
the painting that could be painted within that same day. It is possible that Giotto
could have employed members of his workshop to help paint the less significant
figures and details of the painting. This
E-Commerce Evolution
Evolution of E Commerce E commerce has become one of the most prevalent
changes in the way we do business today. Businesses, before the creation of the
web, were typically at a physical location where customers could come, browse, try
on, and purchase goods and services. Some of the disadvantages of this business
model were: customers restricted by location, the need for larger amounts of
inventory, larger retail space, and more employees to cover customer service. E
commerce began with the advent of the Internet and started as billboards for
information and advertisement purposes. Then as technology developed through the
early 1980s, it grew into e mail purchasing (Compuserve). From there, the World

The company evolved into the 3 rd party distribution market which allowed vendors
to sell their products through Amazon s web store and with Amazon handling the
transactions for a per sale commission. This allowed for smaller vendors, who might
not have the technological capabilities and expertise to sell their products over the
web, to take advantage of the many advantages this new technology offered. One
click shopping was invented as was point to point tracking, where the customer could
watch how the shipping of their package progressed. But because of the inherent
complexity of these on line systems, bad coding practices, rapid evolution of
technology, constant demand of the consumer and the predatory nature of hackers,
security is becoming harder and harder for businesses to guarantee. Security With the
advent of Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), which transferred money between
accounts; and the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), where business forms, purchase
orders, invoices and other information can be shared electronically; the advent of
vulnerabilities in ecommerce also became a reality. In 1985 the first retail electronic
banking system was offered and subsequently hacked. In the 1990s, the use of Credit
Cards on the internet led to hackers intercepting emails and web forms to harvest
these numbers by the millions. This vulnerability lead to the development of SSL
Filter Bubble Analysis
After watching the Eli Pariser: Beware online filter bubble he explains how we get
trapped in a filter bubble but not getting exposed to the information that could widen
our worldview. He also goes on to talk about how we are not in unity like we think
because we live in our own personal bubbles through or on the internet, but we do not
get to pick what all goes into our bubble. I agree with that but the people to blame
is the ones who withholds the information we need to challenge us and the things
that get edited out. Even though our bubbles consist of who we are and what we
do, it s not fair because we have no control over what gets put into our bubbles or
what get left out. The ESPN article also ties in with the filter bubble as well.
Spectral Band Replication in Audio Coding
Spectral Band Replication (SBR) is a novel audio spectrum recovery technology, it
can greatly improve the efficiency of perceptual audio coding compression, and thus
more suitable for streaming media applications with limited bandwidth. It will be
widely used in the world of digital broadcasting, the third generation mobile
communications, multimedia downloads, video on demand and other services. SBR
use parametric coding technique that involves complex algorithms; simply take a
long time by the hardware circuit design. And this design cannot keep up with the
constant development of audio standards. In other words: When a new standard
integration into the decoder, it takes a long time to complete the new circuit design,
the original method will no longer have a market value. Be achieved only using the
software in power consumption and cost requirements are higher for portable
applications with limited competition. With the increasing complexity and diversity
of multimedia signal processing requirements, hardware and software co design
concept has been widely applied to the actual design. The two main reasons why
Spectral Band Replication can fit our needs are: First, SBR is capable of reproducing
the high frequency band by using the correlation information which transmitted along
with the low frequency band. Therefore, we can save the bits which were reserved
for coding high frequency band without actually lost the high frequency signal.
Second, it is more

School Of Choice Is The Most Important For Children
Education
School of choice is the most important to children education. School of choice may
mean better education, environment, and quality of teachers. However, some parents
have time to drive their children to a better school district based on where the
children parent s employer is located or educational institution on the parents morning
commute. The environment plays a key role in children education. Therefore, all
parents want their children in a clean and healthy environment far as the classrooms,
lunchroom, and bathrooms. Some neighborhoods school doesn t provide a clean and
healthy environment for our children.
Therefore, the quality of children education and also being a successful student is
limited at their local school district; where the family weren t able to make the school

quality school district for their child. Therefore, the parents weren t able to obtain a
positive school district for their child. Instead the student attending the local school

Examples Of Immortal Mindset
Immortal Mindset I know a majority of people in our society wish that they were
immortal. Otherwise why read the Twilight book series or the Percy Jackson book
series. It s not just because these books are filled with romance and action, but they
are foremost fiction of that we wish was real. Sadly immortality in real life as a
physical form is non existent. Although there is such a thing called the immortal
mindset. The immortal mindset is a way for you to somewhat de stress your mindand
in a way to feel free. Though people wish for immortality that doesn t necessarily
mean they have an immortal mindset. When you think about just the basics of
immortality, what comes to mind? What comes to my mind is youth, living on,
history (or legacy), endless time, and power. Now you can break those down and
look at them in a real life setting. Think about why everyone should have an
immortal mindset versus a mortal mindset. When you think about youth in a
immortal way what do you see? You see someone whose in their 20 s and is
actually a hundred years old, but when you think of that with an immortal mindset
it s the same in a way. Those who worry about their future and live their lives with
regret tend to not have a happy life and it occasionally leads to an earlier death. Now

type of cable are you going to be using for your backbone and horizontal lines. The
first thing shouldn t be cost when you are designing a network. You want to think of

Factors That Affect The Child Welfare Information
Gateway...
Correspondingly, as we put a price on a child who is up for adoption, we objectify
them by placing a value on their worth. According to the same Child Welfare
Information Gateway listed above, factors that can affect costs, include the type of
adoption, type of placement agency or facilitator, and child s age and circumstances (
Child Welfare Information, 2004, p. 2). For example, a healthy, white infant costs
much more than a healthy black infant. We are putting a price on qualities these
children cannot control; therefore saying some have better assets or more potential
than others. Objectifying these children affect the way potential adoptive parents
view them and which children get adopted, thus giving them unequal opportunities
to become accepted into a family. Objectifying can also affect the way the child
views himself or herself and their worth later in life. They must be sensitive to this
issue as prices are considered and set for adoption.
In addition, with adoption being so costly and complicated many have turned to
buying children illegally through the black market. According to Costello (1973),
Many persons wanting a child but unwilling to wait several years turn to the black
or gray adoption market. In the black market, legal procedures are bypassed, birth
certificates are falsified and available children are sold to parents unwilling to apply
through the normal channels (Costello, 1973, para. 6). The process of adopting
through an agency is so tedious,

Requiem For The Croppies Analysis
Writer Seamus Heaney was born in County Derry, Northern Ireland, 1939. The
beginnings of the Second World War therefore aligned with his upbringing and he
was witness to conflict from a young age. In addition, Northern Ireland was a divided
country which saw disunity within between protestants and catholics but also
unionists and loyalists, with unionists calling for independence against British rule.
Requiem for the Croppies is a poem published in Death of a Naturalist (1966) which
primarily deals with the 1798 Irish Rebellion, an uprising against Britain. Heaney
conveys the oppressive nature of British rule, the mistreatment imposed by such and
positions the reader to empathise with the rebels. He does this through the use of a
sonnet structure, rhythm, inclusive diction, the creation of a binary opposition and
multisensory imagery and figurative language including similes and personification.
Thus the poem s aesthetic is political as it aims to create a sense of nationalism and
encourage Irish independence. In a similar way, Death of A Naturalist (1966) is
political in challenging the role of the Catholic church in Irelandand confrontational in
showing the effects of this through the use of figurative language, metaphors,
structure and the formation of a persona.
The aesthetics in Requiem for the Croppies is political in terms of structure as the use
of a sonnet structure helps to convey Irish nationalism and British influence. This is
because a sonnet is traditionally

The Gap Between Whites And Blacks
while the gap between whites and collective blacks does not shrink. The authors
argue that in group versus out group hostilities will lessen between the whites and
honorary whites, however this will only increase their in group size compared to
the out group of the collective blacks and only create new tensions while
strengthening old ones between these two groups. This will be because the
collective blacks will feel more segregated from their lighter skinned counterparts.
This type of grouping will only allot the whites more power as honorary whites
participation within social society will rely solely on their whitesuperiors for their
approval. Maxine Leeds Craig argued in The Colors of an Ideal Negro Beauty Queen,

Ludwig also writes that white is monochromatic, which relates to racial intermixing
and the idea of white purity or eugenics because once a wholly white European has
sex with someone who is not, then their child s dominant white genes are saturated
with others gene types, thus believed to taint their purity and dub them less white
and less valuable. This is the same with other skin colors that may purposely mate
with someone who possesses milky, white skin in order to perpetuate this idealized
characteristic in their child, because the own dismay for their own skin color,
precedent by the colorism fluxes in society, is influential because parents do not
want their child to go through the social maltreatment they endured. Another reason
for the overemphasis on the importance of whiteness may be its relationship to
light, as white is strictly opaque, lacking dimensions unlike its colorful counterparts
whose dimensions compare to their prejudicial past and present in which they suffer
from discrimination and bigotry by its white Supremes. This differs from black
because other in between colors like red, green, and blue all make variations of
black when combined at different levels, which is representative of the forgotten
races of Asians, Native Americans, Latinos, etc. When this occurs, even if the
resulting color is a lighter shade, it is still related to
Fairness Doctrine Pros And Cons

Pols 155 The Fairness Doctrine was a policy established by the Federal
Communications Commission, that states those with broadcast license such as
radio stations and television programs must present controversial public issues in
way that is honest, balanced, and fair within the time of their program. The policy
was passed by Congress in 1949, its main concern was that diverse views and
controversial issues that regard the public be available for society to be aware of.
This also entitled political programs to present opposing sides of an issue.
Broadcasters had obligation to show the public the spectrum of an argument.

manner that is bias. Ralph Nader an American politic activist explains that without the
Fairness Doctrine public issues, including women s rights, the health effects of

to society. Many have considered the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine, in
2005 by U.S Representative Louise Slaughter, in 2007 by Senator Richard Durbin,
then again in 2008. In my opinion I think the Fairness Doctrine should be
reinstated but also reevaluated and revived so that it fits are society today. The
doctrine should include factors that still protect the first amendment but enables the
public to be knowledgeable of issues, in which they can form their own opinions
on. News and other media today is very bias and provides entertainment rather than
knowledge of current news that impact our lives. I believe the public needs to be
fully aware of issue and political views in a broad spectrum rather than the bias view

STRATEGY 2: Monitor feeling while working at my internship site
One experience that made me glad that I did this internship is that I was really
touched when a lady was saying goodbye to me after I drop her off at her home. She
told me to take care of myself and to be a good girl. This experience touched me as
someone I just met gave me some good blessing.
One of the things I didn t like while being at the internship was when I had to

on me with their comments as they were cranky. They kept asking why we were
starting the activity late and asking where everyone is and why there are no people. It
was hard to communicate with them as they kept complaining to me about the

am able to achieve this at my internship as I am able to help my supervisor with

There should, therefore, be a way of letting specific responders to be aware of the
train schedules and routes. There is also a mobile app called Ask Rail, which is
developed for the emergence of responders providing access to data relating to the
train with the incidents (Molinski, 2015). This gives the responders a chance to
know about the train which has had an incident and rush to rescue any victim of the
incident. This increases the safety of the railroad. Since there are no such measures
that have been put across in the tanker truck, the railroad is a better method of oil
transportation. New rules should be introduced for the use of trains in oil
transportation. There has been debate over new rules of transporting oil via the
railroad. These rules require that trains be installed with new brakes that will stop
hazardous materials that are flammable (Stevens, 2015). There have been appeals to
challenge the new rules. However, the safety administration denies these calls since
their aim is to reduce incidents in the railroad during transportation of oil. This has
increased concern about the transportation of oil over the railroad (Stevens, 2015).
Once the railroad has been implemented in this company, new rules that are strict
have to be set before the trains are used. Appendix

Analysis Of Kelo V. City Of New London
Taking is by means which the federal or state governments can enforce eminent
domain or condemnation of your land or your land rights through just compensation,
and fair market value, for public purposes. Meaning, that the government can
physically acquire said property for public use or purpose and regulate the use or the
manner in which the propertyis currently controlled. In the below case, Kelo v. City
of New London, the term public use is loosely related to public purpose, as the focus
was on economic growth for the area, to provide for increased taxes, and even
additional employment opportunities. The overall benefits were to the public, but at a
cost, who s cost, the current standing residents required change, by means of
uprooting there families and moving. More takings have occurred in the past decade
that have benefited private individuals and large corporations that essentially provide
more monetary gains to the economy rather than for general public use. The land
taken for private benefit has primarily been that of low income and minority
individuals. (Beideman 2007, p.273) Essentially, taking from the poor to empower
and strengthen the rich under the guise of economic growth and economic gain.

In Kelo v. City of New London, Connecticut, nine (9) property owners challenged a

Mission Statement On Community And Community Service
In...
I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to
address a concern of mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission
statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a whole, I feel that the youth group is
lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service important to our church,
I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in communityoutreach to
promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in
more community outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth
to feel helpful, and promote our church s presence in our community.
Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all
about having the coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets
they can get. It sometimes seems as if caring for others has completely disappeared
from their thought process. They have very much embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along
with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have become somewhat
ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think
over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is
it not our job as a youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and
better ourselves. To overcome and rise above the low expectations we typically have.
This is why I believe creating and promoting community outreach opportunities is so
important.
The Application of the Spanish Language in the Culture
and...
In 2011 the Pew Research Center produced a survey which claimed that
approximately 37.6 million people living in the United States spoke Spanish in their
homes(Gonzalez Barrera and Lopez). While that may not seem like much keep in my
mind the fact that, this number reflects around 10% of the total American population;
and the number of Spanish speakers coming to this country is ever increasing. All of
this being said some people, in the government or elsewhere, would see the Spanish
languagemarginalized or even totally forgotten in our national identity. I m here to
say that we shouldn t forget something that has helped shape the diverse fabric of our
nation for hundreds of years. Instead of simply denying the fact that Spanish is...

Some may not know however that it was founded as a Spanish colony in 1605;
making it one of the oldest cities in the United States to date(Carter). Realistically
you d be hard pressed to find a region of our country that hasn t in some way been
influenced by Spanish settlers. And the effects of this heavy colonization was even
very apparent 200 years ago. By the mid 19th century even, it is estimated that
100,000 people in the present day Southwestern region of America spoke Spanish.
So its fairly obvious that large populations of Spanish speakers in the US are nothing
new and are in fact what some would call, normal.
The states of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Florida were all Spanish
colonies at one point and even today remnants of that culture still linger in their
language, which is spoken extensively throughout these and more states. And in a
few of these states, Spanish maintains a status of a minority language which allows
official notices and documents to be printed in English and Spanish. All of this
being said one of the most surprising facts is this; the United States of America is
the fifth largest Spanish speaking country in the world. Only the countries of
Mexico, Spain, Colombia, and Argentina speak more Spanish than the United
States(Remeseira); and all of the nations official language is Spanish. Of course
some will ask, how is this relevant? or why do all of these useless facts matter? .

Doctor Who Origin
We are well within the one week countdown mark to possibly one of the most
hyped series of Doctor Who in the show s five decade history. On the face of it, the
series looks to be like any other. One with lots of monsters, mystery and adventure.
Also with the important point of it being another Moffat series to add to his
collection (which isn t a terrible collection at that).
So, what makes Series 9 that much more gripping, even before it airs? What have
got Whovians the world over raving about the series during the tenth anniversary
year of the revival? Well in this article, you will find all the answers to that question
in six parts, and perhaps more reasons to declare it one of the greatest series yet if it
delivers on all aspects.

However, the majority of the episodes weren t even originally written for a Doctor of
Peter s ilk, which was never really publicised at the time, so the majority didn t
know. They were all Matt Smith scripts. This meant there were inconsistencies in
my opinion in the way Twelfth was played. It was as if in certain episodes he was
one way, then the next few he was something else. It was a jumbled characterisation
at the time.
That is all change this year, as it truly is the time of the Twelfth Doctor. The scripts
have been manufactured exactly to the new Doctor s character, which promises more
differences, but also more consistency in his character this time around. We will be
getting a more identifiable portrayal of the Twelfth Doctor himself.
Peter is now far more comfortable in the role, and he will no doubt be giving it the
best he has got, which is a lot! He will be sensational, and with trusted companion
Clara in a less commanding position this time around. The beauty of the Twelfth
Doctor s character will shine ever brighter. He looks to be a splendid mix of fun,
dark, adventurous and damn likeable too. Get ready for a new take on the now

Catherine de Medici and Obsession Over Power Essay
Catherine de Medici and Obsession Over Power An execrable woman whose
memory will remain in bloody crepe until the end of time[1] . For nearly 400 years
this assessment of Catherine de Medici held true. In the popular imagination she is a
Machiavellian schemer using poison on those who hindered her in her quest to gain
and maintain power at court, a view of Catherine reinforced in recent years by the
film La Reine Margot, based on the book by Dumas. Most traditionalist historians
take their information on Catherine from pamphlets such as Discours Merveilleuse
de la Vie, Actions et Deportment de Catherine de Medicis, Royne Mere[2]. Claiming
to be a strictly factual account of Catherine de... Show more content on

The main revisionist historian to write in English is NM Sutherland. Her works are a
clear attempt to rehabilitate Catherine and remove the stigma the Black Legend has
left associated with Catherine s name. She suggests that far from Catherine being
triumphant at her own political dexterity when assuming the regency for Charles IX
upon the death of Francis II, she viewed the future with apprehension [6]. Other
revisionist historians include Dame Francis Yates who interprets Catherine s many
volte face as being less and example of Machiavellian scheming and more of an
example of how Catherine was, in reality a politique who put the well being of the
state before personal religious convictions. This position meant Catherine was unable
to comprehend the religious fanaticism which swept France during the era in which
she was regent and thus made the solving of the problem significantly more difficult.
Other revisionists concentrate on her maternalism with Heritier[7] substantiating this
opinion with references to the proportion of Catherine s letters that are addressed to
Jean d HumiГѓВЁre, the royal children s governess. The revisionist view generally
sees Catherine as being someone who desired peace and stability for her sons
kingdom. The blame for the failure of the crown to solve the religious political

Fordham University Observation
Going to Fordham University, I ve always heard about the student friendly bars
located nearby campus. I figured the colorful social dynamic at these bars would
make for important observations that I couldn t pass up. The Friday night ritual of
going to the bars sounded as if it had its own mythos, with police raids replacing
great floods and bouncers replacing riddle making sphinxes. As such, I decided to
leave campus on a Friday at around 11 pm to go to an area with multiple bars that
were known to admit Fordham students under the age of 21. Essentially, I observed
the act of going out . On the way to the bars I noticed a large, but hard to spot,
exchange of people, ideas and even items. Most people moved in large flocks that
tended to fuse and split spontaneously. There were parallel floods of students going
out and returning home. From what I heard while eavesdropping, some students told
others about what lay ahead for instance, cover charges at bars, or people they weren
t fond of and others about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What appeared to be the main bar was situated on a corner, while two other ones
were to adjacent to each other on the next block and on the opposite side of the
street. I focused my attention on the more important bar on the street corner. It
comprised the first floor of a rugged, two story brick building. A long line of
students, starting at the open door of the bar, snaked along the front of the building
and around the sidewalk on its left side. I got in line and waited about five minutes
to get up to the door. This was perhaps the most critical part of going out . Once it
was my turn to enter the bar, I was approached by the bouncer. He was a tall, barrel
chested man with a wisp of hair on his head and a crooked nose. I showed this man
my license. He nodded upon seeing the year 1996 , accepting my age as good
enough, and proceeded to pat me down to make sure I didn t have any drinks on
Graycloud By John Nola Analysis
Like Nola, Ruth Graycloud, was exploited and subjugated by her white husband,
John Tate. Ruth was Moses Graycloud s twin sister. Like Nola, Ruth was an Osage
woman who became a victim of one of the white men who married Native American
women to get access to Osage oil wealth. Despite marrying a Native American woman
, Tate had no respect to Native Americans. As Yanka Kroumova Krasteva contends,
Tate constantly takes pictures of the Indians, as if they were archaeological finds.
And this is the way he treats his Indian wife (55). Tate was a photographer; he used
to appear at all significant events in the Indian territory standing behind the three
legged stand that held his camera, his head covered with black cloth, his own good
eye seeing everything through glass lenses (Hogan, Mean Spirit 58). He used to
photograph Native Americans and send their pictures to magazines. Tate first used
Ruth as a model then as source of income . (Hogan, Mean Spirit 179). He
humiliated and abused her; he did not love her, disliked to be seen with her. They
seldom went anywhere together, but when they did, he never walked at her side
(Hogan, Mean Spirit 134). At the end of Mean Spirit Tate killed Ruth. As a result,
Moses shot him dead.
In fact, Hogan highlights the oppression inflicted upon women. Meanwhile, she
pinpoints the previously discussed ecofeminist principle that women s liberation is
inseparable from the struggle against the oppression and abuse of
Pros And Cons Of School Shootings
School shootings are terrifying and a big problem in today s society. Schools have
added lockdown drills, bullet proof glass and metal detectors. School should be a
safe area for children to learn instead of fearing for their life. Instead of buying
metal detectors and hiring more officers, there is a much easier solution in order to
decrease and prevent school shootings. We have to be more alert about securing
weapons at home and being aware of suspicious behavior at school in order to keep
children and faculty safe. As a child left for school one morning, his parents thought
that he had been acting very odd and different. Even with their suspicion, they said
goodbye and let their son go to school.
It wasn t till later when they had noticed an empty spot in their gun case where a
pistol and shotgun used to sit. They rushed to the school and while searching through
the halls for their son, their ears echoed with a gunshot from one of the classrooms.
Following the gunshot, they rushed into the classroom and immediately disarmed
and physically detained their son until police arrived. The only damages the son had
caused, was a plate sized hole in the ceiling. If the parents had gotten to the school
even one minute later, their son could have been labeled as a murderer.
It is sickening to know that a child was able to sneak past his parents, teachers, and
students with two firearms on his body. His parents were lucky they arrived when
they did because many of people could have been hurt or even worse murdered.
Obviously, the child that brought the two firearms to school should be the one
punished, but what about the parents. The parents that did not have a weapon that
could easily end someone s life, properly locked up or hidden away. If parents are
going to carelessly leave firearms unlocked with ammo nearby, what is stopping a
child from doing wrong with that firearm? Leaving firearms unlocked with any aged
child around, hoping they don t touch it is a dangerous and irresponsible act.
When school shootings occur, the individual that brings the weapon to school should
be the one punished. However, when the parents irresponsibly leave a firearm
unlocked they should face a punishment as well. 68% of school
The 17 Indisputable Laws Of Teamwork
Have you ever asked yourself about what teamwork really is? and how can you put
into practice in an effective way?
I ve just read an interesting book called The 17 indisputable laws of teamwork by
John C. Maxwell and I would like to share here just a few of them and invite you to
take a moment to read them and see if they could help us to honor one of our most
representative values: Build the best team.
John introduces certain concepts and questions that trigger our thoughts about
teamwork, which are important to know before present the laws:
what differentiates a big team from a set of individuals that don t accomplish to

THE LAW OF BANKING SUPPORT
Great teams have great collective strength
John tell us that one important task in team building is building your bench.
Bench have a certain of bad press, that is, some people normally think that bench is
equal to players without value to add to the team, but this is totally wrong:
Today s bench players could be tomorrow s key players
If one of bench players wins, the starter player wins and in consequence, the team
also wins
A bench player in a right place will be probably more valuable than a starter one
A great and strong bench make the leader be prepared with more options
Bench is needed in bad times so you must be in continuing improvement of it and
building it today for tomorrowВґs need
As John suggests, you must start working in building your bench now and one way to
do it is taking into account three main topics:
Recruitment, that is who is joining the team
Training, this refers to team development
Losses, which means who is leaving the team
Regarding the first topic, recruitment, the suggestions are based on the 6PQs, which
are:
Personality, the suggested test in the one called DISCO, in order to determine if the
person is driving, influencing, supporting or
Symbolism In Guernica
Guernica, the title of the painting, is a town in Basque Country, Spain. It was the
target of terror bombing during the Spanish civil war because it was the northern
bastion of the Republican resistance movement.
First, war is depicted as devastating and it cares no one men, women, grandparents,
children neither animals. Everyone is a victim. By looking at the paintings, the
people are in pain. With their mouth open that might mean streaming out their
agony; with their fingers wide spread, they might asking for hands to hold them up.
In a war, there are dead people (the baby held by his mom and the lying man); some
protects their loved ones (the mother) even still suffering; people escapes even if
they are injured or had detached foot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light bulb is the symbol of anti war and that Picasso wants the people to open
their eyes and to see what war could bring in our society. Everyone has their
limitless potentials that can bring a brighter future. This makes the painting
connected to the present time and the future. Fourth, as interpreted by Ray (2006),
the shape and posture of the bodies express protest while the flaming buildings and
crumbled walls reflect destructive power of civil war. The newspaper background
is the means by how the painted knew the massacre. Both Berger (1980) and Chipp
(1988) cited by Ray (2006), believe that the broken sword in the painting mean
defeats of the people. Overall, this is a less optimistic painting that does not reference
to the actual bombing of Guernica (Brunner, 2001). Rather it presents a visceral
depiction of terror, chaos, and grief. Sandberg (1960) quoted that Guernica is a
pathetic symbol of the recent past and a warning for the
Fosfomycin Resistance Against Salmonella Species
A group of researchers from Canada have discovered that there is a gene that
confines an antibody from Salmonella. They discovered that this gene is found in
broiler chickens. Broiler chickens aren t used as much for egg production. These
chickens are known for being raised on farms and then butchered for meat. The
researchers took their information and published a journal where the information
and research can be found. The gene itself is named fosA7; it got its name because
it carries a high level of resistance to fosfomycin. A common use to fosfomycin is an
antibiotic and is commonly used to help women cure their urinary tract infections.
The 7 is fosA7 represents that it is the seventh of the fosA genes that have been
discovered. As of now fosfomycin resistance is limited against Salmonellaspecies....

Diarra, is a research scientist in Food Safety at Agriculture and Agri Food Canada.
Diarra said, The powerful resistance the fosA7 gene confers is worrisome. It could
spread among different Salmonella species, as well as other bacterial pathogen
species, via horizontal gene transfer, due to increased use of fosfomycin in both
clinical and veterinary settings. Thus, vigilant monitoring for the spread of
fosfomycin resistance in bacteria, isolated from humans and animals, is needed.
Because of what Diarra said, many researchers wanted to test to see the strength of
the resistance. For the researchers to test the strength of this gene they had to clone it
and place it into the chromosome that was non antibiotic resistant. The chromosome
that they were placing the chromosomes into was Salmonella Enterica. After
reviewing their results, they found that their hypothesis was correct. The gene fosA7
is responsible for the resistance of fosfomycin. The gene binds to fosfomycin and this
is what causes it to become
Solstice And Equinox Informative Speech
Thousands of years ago highly advanced ancient peoples built huge megalithic
structures and temples that aligned with the sun at the equinoxes and solstices, some
such as the Great Pyramids, Angkor Wat, and Easter Island even align with each
other from across the world. Some traditions of celebrating the solstice and equinox
still survive today, although many others passed into history.
While traditions often change their shape or lose their meaning through time, these
stone monuments have withstood thousands of years. They were purposefully built
as giant symbols and thus have kept a knowledge of the process of enlightenment,
and greater spiritual significance of the solstice and equinox, encoded into their
structures for us to still read ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Connect with the Heavens and the Earth by Celebrating the Solstices and Equinoxes
Solstices and equinoxes are a time of connection between the heavens and the earth,
the personal and the divine, the inner and the outer, the material and the spiritual, and
even a time when contact through mystical experiences is made more possible. It is a
beautiful time, which unfortunately we as a humanity have lost touch with, as did
other cultures who degenerated in the past and lost their spiritual foundation.
By taking part in ceremonies to celebrate the solstices and equinoxes, one is able to
use the event for its higher purpose just as the ancients did to connect with the divine,
to understand cosmic, eternal principles through intuitive experience and the cycles
of nature, and to take the spiritual nourishment needed to help toward awakening.
This is not simply the revival of something past, but the partaking in something
eternal that permeates our lives, even if we pay little attention to
A Short Note On The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
Thunnus Thynnus, or the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, is one of the largest species of tuna,
weighing in at over 600 kilograms and four meters in length. It is known for its
speed and takes the shape of a torpedo. In its environment, the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
acts as one of the top predators. It preys on smaller fish, such as herring, mackerel
and eels. The Atlantic Bluefin Tunais separated into two main populations, Eastern
and Western. Although located in different geographical areas they are not isolated
and individuals migrate between the two populations allowing gene flow. The
Atlantic Bluefin Tuna s population ranges all through the pelagic zone of the
Atlantic. The Western Atlantic population spawns in the Gulf of Mexico, and the
Eastern Atlantic population spawns in the Mediterranean Sea. In the fishing industry
it is highly coveted for sports fishing, especially in the United States and Canada,
and in the sashimi market for high end sushi. As a result of the high demands for the
Tuna it is being heavily overfished causing the population to decline dramatically.
The low supply and high demand for the Tuna has made them extremely valuable; a
single fish in Tokyo s Tsukiji fish market sold for 1.76 million dollar (Bluefin, 2013).
This high value of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna has resulted in illegal pirate fishing
causing more harm to the population. If the illegal pirate fishing and overfishing of
the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna continues, the species will become extinct resulting
Candle Making Through the Centuries Essays
The Evolution of Candles
For thousands of years, before modern electrical lighting systems were developed,
candles existed not for decoration but for the sole purpose of providing artificial light
in millions of homes.
Here s a brief history of how the candle making industry flourished, declined and
regained its prominence through the years.
The Ancient Times
During the ancient civilisation, candles were made from tallow, or animal fat,
extracted from cattle and sheep. The first candles were developed by the ancient
Egyptians. These candles, known as rushlights or torches, had no wicks and burned
slowly. The Romans were credited for the first creation of candles with wicks, the
ones that resembled the candles that are used today. ... Show more content on

It was in the late 18th century that the business of candle making with the use of the
spermaceti, a wax obtained by crystallising sperm whale oil, significantly flourished.
The spermaceti wax, like beeswax, burned clearly and do not produce foul, acrid
odour. Also, the light being generated was significantly brighter compared to the ones
emitted by tallow and beeswax.
The 19th Century
In the 1820s, French chemist Michel Eugene Chevreul discovered a way to extract
stearic acid from animal fatty acids, which lead to the development of stearin wax.
This type of wax, which is hard and durable, is considered a fundamental element in
candle making. In fact, the use of the stearin candles remained popular in Europe until
today.
In 1834, inventor Joseph Morgan developed a machine that allowed the constant
production of moulded candles by using a cylinder with a movable piston that ejects
candles as they solidified. With the introduction of this machine, candles became an
affordable commodity for the masses.
In the 1850s, the paraffin wax was introduced after chemists learned how to
effectively separate the naturally occurring waxy substance from petroleum. Paraffin,
an odourless and bluish white substance, was considered a helpful element in the
candle making process because it burned easily and continuously. It was also more
economical than any other candle fuel.

Virginia s Struggle In The Death Of The Moth
Although The Death of the Moth seems to be about the struggles of life and death
for a moth, it is really about Virginia s own struggles of seizing her moment. She is
caught stuck in her thoughts to write something she can verbalize. It is through
these struggles as a writer coming to terms with her own unhappiness, at her
abilities to write the adventures of her story. Even if she feels happy and fights to
write and express herself, the moth is the picture of that lucid writing. She was
visualizing her writings through the moments of seizing what she had already

future. Virginia seems to hold back from helping herself; she was envisioning her

Discussion Essay. 02 Discussion Essay Sample Topics Essays International English ...

  • 1. Discussion Essay Writing an essay on the topic of a "Discussion Essay" can present both challenges and opportunities. On one hand, the open-ended nature of the assignment allows for exploration of various perspectives and arguments. However, this same flexibility can be daunting, as it requires a careful balance between presenting a coherent argument and addressing potential counterarguments. The difficulty lies in the need to critically analyze a given topic, evaluate different viewpoints, and construct a well-structured essay that not only presents one's own stance but also engages with opposing ideas. This involves thorough research, the ability to synthesize information, and effective communication skills. Crafting a compelling thesis statement that guides the entire discussion is essential, as it sets the tone for the essay and clarifies the writer's position. Moreover, a discussion essay demands a refined writing style to convey complex ideas clearly. Striking the right balance between being persuasive and remaining objective can be challenging, as can avoiding logical fallacies or biases that might weaken the overall argument. While the task may seem daunting, the process of writing a discussion essay offers a valuable opportunity for intellectual growth. It encourages critical thinking, research skills, and the ability to articulate ideas persuasively. Overcoming these challenges can result in a more profound understanding of the topic and improved writing proficiency. For those seeking assistance or looking to alleviate some of the difficulties associated with writing essays, various resources are available. Professional writing services, like HelpWriting.net, offer support in crafting essays, providing examples, and guiding individuals through the intricacies of academic writing. Next, the LB Agar was mixed and heated using a magnetic mouse and a Corning В® Stirrer /Hotplate until the solution was transparent and beginning to bubble towards the top of the Erlenmeyer flask. Next, the flask with the mixed LB Agar was removed from the Corning В® Stirrer/Hotplate. The LB Agar filled up large test tubes in a large test tube rack to be sterilized. The large test tubes were filled three quarters of the way with LB Agar and then topped them with one twist with their corresponding plastic lids. 3M в„ў ESPE в„ў Lead Free Autoclave Indicator Tape was placed on the test tube rack to help determine if the LB Agar is sterile after the autoclave process. Then the test tube rack with its contents were placed into the Market Forge Industries Inc. Sterilmatic autoclave and closed the water valve. Purified water was poured underneath the porous metal shelf that holds the test tube rack full of contents and then latched the outer door. Then the timer was set for twenty minutes for the sterilization process to be
  • 3. Hell You Talmbout Analysis Hell You Talmbout , a new protest song from Janelle MonГ Ўe s Wondaland collective, is striking in its simplicity. MonГЎe (along with fellow Wondaland member Jidenna) made headlines yesterday for marching in Philadelphia against police brutality, and this song sounds like an extension of that march. Drums dominate the scene; they are at once tribal but organized, like a powerfully primal marching band. The lyrics are simple as well, but there s nothing more to say Walter Scott say his name! Jerame Reid say his name! Philip White say his name! Three men who died at the hands of police, all in the last year; all three are widely considered to have been unfairly killed. These are not the only three, either. Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Sean Bell, Freddie Gray, Aiyana Jones, Sandra Bland, Kimani Grey, John Crawford, Michael Brown, Miriam Carey, Sharonda Singleton, Emmett Till, Tommy Yancy, Jordan Baker, and Amadou Diallo make up the rest of the verses. Their deaths range from days gone by, where racism... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These names sound like they re shouted into a megaphone, not from a recording booth; the audio crackles menacingly and threatens to cut out at some points. Set to the rollicking, sparse beat, the chorus Hell you talmbout! is sung by the masses every single aspect of this song makes it a prime candidate for the Black Lives Matter movement to sing. Wondaland s members all contribute a verse; Jidenna, MonГЎe, Deep Cotton, St. Beauty, Roman GianArthur, and George 2.0 all of them give their martyrs names a deserved emotional gravity. Hell You Talmbout is all you can ask for in a protest song it has emotional depth, but still goes to an irresistible inner beat. Even more importantly, it cuts the crap and focuses on all that matters in arguably our time s most important issue give the wrongfully dead a voice, and make sure America is listening. Say their
  • 4. The Mafia s Money Laundering Money Laundering The term money laundering is said to create from Mafia possession of Laundromats in the United States. Gangsters there were earning huge sums in cash from extortion, prostitution, gambling and bootleg liquor. They needed to demonstrate a legitimate source for these monies. Money laundering is the process by which criminals try to conceal the true origion and ownership of the proceeds of their criminal activity, allowing them to maintain control over the proceeds and, in the end, providing a legitimate cover for their sources of income . In the 1980 s, money laundering was considered only as interest basically with drug trackling backgrund. It created trouble in western society, because the profit genration was increasing from criminal activities. Therefore, there was a force from society to take action against drug dealers by introducing legislation that would remove them of their illegal gains. Government soon identified that criminal organizations, which made massive profits from drugs, could corrupt the system of state at all levels. Money laundering is a worldwide trend, supported by international society which is a 24hrs a day business. If one closes, another opens for business. As a 1993 UN Report noted: The essential features of laundering of profits of crime are its global nature, the flexibility and adapbility of its operations. These make the crime in an organized manner. Moreover, a very important point which should not be ignored at any cost

  • 6. How Mayans Intertwine With Astronomy Are we Alone? the history of astronomy has shaped the course of human society, connecting science with human spirituality and sense of wonder at the unimaginable vastness of the cosmos . (Shuttleworth). Astronomy is the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe. Ancient astronomers attempted to explain religionrather than explain natural phenomenon. Religion can be defined as a belief in, or an acknowledgement of some superhuman power or powers (ex. a god or gods) which is typically manifested in obedience, reverence, and worship; such a belief as part of a system defining a code of living, esp. as a means of achieving spiritual or material improvement. • 7. ##bolic Implications Of JesusExorcism In The Bible In the synoptic gospels, Jesus exorcisms are portrayed as one of the major acts in Jesus mission to the kingdom of God. The gospels not only narrate Jesus casting out the demons and cleansing the possessed bodies, but also implicitly suggests the controversy he evokes among the Jewish and Roman authorities of Judea and Galilee. The context of New Testament Gospels is deeply rooted in the Greco Roman world and as such paints the background of the Jesus actions and messages. Several scholarly publications that analyze biblical texts from the social science perspective have established a relationship between the politics and religion of the ancient world. The aim of this paper is to assess the events of demon possession and exorcism narrated in the Bible not from a theological perspective but from sociopolitical standpoint. Drawing references from scholarly publications on Bible, this paper would investigate the symbolic meanings of Jesus exorcism in socio political sphere of Galilee and Judea at the very beginning of the first century. This paper heavily relies upon the concepts proposed by Amanda Witmer in her publication Jesus, the Galilean Exorcist, His Exorcisms in Social and Political Context. The historically accurate reconstruction of Jesus is extremely improbable. This is largely due to the limited quantity of resources survived and those that do, New Testament Gospels, are written under the lens of religious followers. As such, there exists great challenge in
  • 8. Stanislavsky s Invention Of Stanislavsky And The Imagination Stanislavsky and the Imagination Konstantin Stanislavsky, born in 1863 Russia was an actor and well known theatre practitioner whose main principle of theatre was the development of naturalism, called the Stanislavsky method . Being born into a wealthy family Stanislavsky had the privilege of partaking in acting from a young age, performing in his parent s acting company, the Alekseyev Circle. During the late 19th century, Stanislavsky travelled around the globe to learn about different rehearsal processes at the Comedie Francaise. [1] His influences and experiences as a youngster led him to create his own theatre company: the Moscow Art Theatre (est. 1898). Here he designed his unique system and introduced and combined realism within European trends at that time. During the decades, method acting became a popularised technique in large communities as the Moscow Theatre underwent a world tour in areas of Europe and United States. Once the tour had ended, many of the members decided to leave and go on to create the Group Theatre, which included actors like Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler. After this many went on to form the Actors Studio. [2] The System The Stanislavsky system is used to portray the naturalistic and realistic elements of life and people within theatre. Soil and General Term Landslides LANDSLIDES Introduction The term landslide includes all varieties of mass movements of hill slopes and can be defined as the downward and outward movement of slope forming materials composed of rocks, soils, artificial fills or combination of all these materials along surfaces of separation by falling, sliding and flowing, either slowly or quickly from one place to another. Although the landslides are primarily associated with mountainous terrains, these can also occur in areas where an activity such as surface excavations for highways, buildings and open pit mines takes place. Effects of landslides In hilly terrains of India, Himalayan Mountains, Western Ghats and northeastern part, landslides have been one of the major natural disasters that strike life and property almost perennially. These landslides, year after year, bring about untold misery to human settlements apart from causing devastating damages of transportation and communication network. (i)Landslides cause property damage: Injury and death and adversely effect a variety of resources. For example, water supplies, fisheries, sewage disposal systems, forests, dams and roadways can be affected for year after a slide event. (ii)The negative economic effects of landslides: It include the cost to repair structures, loss of property value, disruption of transportation routes, medical posts in the even of injury, and indirect costs such as lost timber and lost fish stocks. (iii)Quantity and quality: Water availability, Quantity and quality can be affected by landslides. Geotechnical studies and engineering projects to assess and stabilize potentially dangerous sites can be costly. Large, infrequent landslides contribute less to personal and property losses than do the smaller, more frequent slides and debris torrents in populated areas. Every year in India especially in mountainous regions landslides damage many houses, buildings, roads, railways, pipelines, agricultural land and crops and cause the

Essay The Effect of pH on the Digestion of Casein by Trypsin The Effect of pH on the Digestion of Casein by Trypsin When planning the experiment, the equipment and method had to be well thought out in order for the experiment to be accurate and efficient. Firstly, I have chose to use a 1% trypsin concentration then altered it to 0.8%, because a higher concentration means more trypsin molecules in the solution and therefore more enzyme substrate complexes are likely to occur with the casein in the milk, causing digestion of the casein to be faster. However, I don t wantowever digestion to occur too quickly as I will not be able to analyse the effect of PH. Therefore, I chose a lower concentration which would allow me to test the percentage transmission at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, PH is the independent variable I am testing; therefore, its constancy is important. Variables in the experiment will need to be controlled and the following need to be kept constant * Concentration of trypsin * Amounts of reagents * Enzyme to substrate ratio * Temperature * Method of measuring solutions I will use equal amounts of trypsin, milk, PH, buffer and distilled water in all the experiments and will use the same measuring equipment to ensure fair representation of the effect of different PH on digestion. If variables aren t adequately controlled then the data collected would be erroneous and would not represent the true effects of PH on digestion as altering variables could lead to changes in rate of reaction. As we know the collision theory states that the more collisions in a system, the more likely the molecules will react and therefore the faster the reaction. Rates of reaction can be affected by variables such as concentration, as more molecules of the substance are present therefore increasing the chance of a collision, another is temperature. All enzymes have an optimum temperature at which they work the fastest, this is because more kinetic energy is available and particles move faster resulting in more collisions and hence more

Classical music concerts take place in every cultural center, and they take many forms, from a solo to large symphonic orchestras, from a sonata to an opera. This kind of music has many fans, especially among circles of intellectuals. But how did this great kind of music start? What made the great composers compose? The wealthy family provided him with his own small orchestra, and this gave him the opportunity to produce very many compositions. He was inspired by every day events, such as the times of day to write the triptych Morning, Noon and Evening , and by the seasons to compose The Seasons . He also composed the well known symphony Farewell , to give the Esterhazy Prince a hint: that he was holding the musicians for too long, and he had to give them some time off. All his music was for the ears of a small, privileged audience, primarily for their own amusement. However, not all the great composers worked for wealthy families. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a younger composer who Haydn considered as his only true peer in music wanted his music to last in time, and be heard by larger groups of people. This led him to produce many operas, and also religious music. He was inspired by ancient Greek and Roman history and mythology, but also by comic events of the every day life. However, he did not enjoy the same funding as Haydn, because of lack of a permanent (wealthy) audience, and also because of the war that broke out in Europe at the time. Mozart s probably most famous composition is his unfinished Requiem , which legend holds he wrote for his own death. Mozart s compositions were mainly played (and still are) either to amuse people (comic operas), or as religious music. Some of his

  • 15. Effectiveness Of An Extraction Process And Purification... In this experiment, the effectiveness of an extraction process and purification process by sublimation is observed and used to selectively separate caffeine from teabags. In the first part of the experiment, water soluble materials, including caffeine, within the teabags are extracted into hot water because the solubilityof caffeinein water increases as temperature increases. This is due to the concept that increasing kinetic energy through increasing temperature will allow the molecules in the solute to break apart from the intermolecular interactions more effectively. Afterwards, the solutionwas filtered using a Buchner funnel to remove any solids from the liquid solution containing the caffeine. Then, the solution is allowed to cool before the caffeine to be extracted from the water by using methylene chloride, sodium chloride, and anhydrous sodium sulfate as part of a liquid liquid extraction work up. Specifically, this liquid liquid extraction distributes the caffeine into two solvents, methylene chloride and water, which are insoluble and immiscible to each other. By using density, solubility, and polarity differences of a solute in a pair of solvents, the organic compound of interest can be transferred from one liquid phase to the other during an extraction. Since the two solvents used are insoluble and immiscible to each other, two layers, the organic layer and the aqueous layer, will form and can be extracted to obtain the caffeine. Since caffeine is nonpolar,

Parents have a right to be in charge of what is put into the minds of their students, however just because one parent objects does not mean that the whole school should ban the book from the list. A solution for this book would be to enforce parental consent for books to be read in the classroom. If a parent does not want a book to be read in the classroom, then there should be other options for the student to read. The school and teacher should not trespass on a parent s rights of raising their child. I believe that if a parent has a concern, they should go and discuss the problem with the teacher so that the teacher will be able to defend their reasoning for choosing the book to be read in the classroom. If a controversial book will be read in the classroom, it is the teacher s responsibility to prepare the student for it. It will be widely used in the world of digital broadcasting, the third generation mobile communications, multimedia downloads, video on demand and other services. SBR use parametric coding technique that involves complex algorithms; simply take a long time by the hardware circuit design. And this design cannot keep up with the constant development of audio standards. In other words: When a new standard integration into the decoder, it takes a long time to complete the new circuit design, the original method will no longer have a market value. Therefore, we can save the bits which were reserved for coding high frequency band without actually lost the high frequency signal. Second, it is more

  • 31. Factors That Affect The Child Welfare Information Gateway... Correspondingly, as we put a price on a child who is up for adoption, we objectify them by placing a value on their worth. According to the same Child Welfare Information Gateway listed above, factors that can affect costs, include the type of adoption, type of placement agency or facilitator, and child s age and circumstances ( Child Welfare Information, 2004, p. 2). For example, a healthy, white infant costs much more than a healthy black infant. We are putting a price on qualities these children cannot control; therefore saying some have better assets or more potential than others. Objectifying these children affect the way potential adoptive parents view them and which children get adopted, thus giving them unequal opportunities to become accepted into a family. Objectifying can also affect the way the child views himself or herself and their worth later in life. They must be sensitive to this issue as prices are considered and set for adoption. In addition, with adoption being so costly and complicated many have turned to buying children illegally through the black market. According to Costello (1973), Many persons wanting a child but unwilling to wait several years turn to the black or gray adoption market. In the black market, legal procedures are bypassed, birth certificates are falsified and available children are sold to parents unwilling to apply through the normal channels (Costello, 1973, para. 6). The process of adopting through an agency is so tedious,

  • 33. Requiem For The Croppies Analysis Writer Seamus Heaney was born in County Derry, Northern Ireland, 1939. The beginnings of the Second World War therefore aligned with his upbringing and he was witness to conflict from a young age. In addition, Northern Ireland was a divided country which saw disunity within between protestants and catholics but also unionists and loyalists, with unionists calling for independence against British rule. Requiem for the Croppies is a poem published in Death of a Naturalist (1966) which primarily deals with the 1798 Irish Rebellion, an uprising against Britain. Heaney conveys the oppressive nature of British rule, the mistreatment imposed by such and positions the reader to empathise with the rebels. He does this through the use of a sonnet structure, rhythm, inclusive diction, the creation of a binary opposition and multisensory imagery and figurative language including similes and personification. Thus the poem s aesthetic is political as it aims to create a sense of nationalism and encourage Irish independence. In a similar way, Death of A Naturalist (1966) is political in challenging the role of the Catholic church in Irelandand confrontational in showing the effects of this through the use of figurative language, metaphors, structure and the formation of a persona. The aesthetics in Requiem for the Croppies is political in terms of structure as the use of a sonnet structure helps to convey Irish nationalism and British influence. This is because a sonnet is traditionally

The authors argue that in group versus out group hostilities will lessen between the whites and honorary whites, however this will only increase their in group size compared to the out group of the collective blacks and only create new tensions while strengthening old ones between these two groups. This will be because the collective blacks will feel more segregated from their lighter skinned counterparts. This is the same with other skin colors that may purposely mate with someone who possesses milky, white skin in order to perpetuate this idealized characteristic in their child, because the own dismay for their own skin color, precedent by the colorism fluxes in society, is influential because parents do not want their child to go through the social maltreatment they endured. The policy was passed by Congress in 1949, its main concern was that diverse views and controversial issues that regard the public be available for society to be aware of. Many have considered the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine, in 2005 by U.S Representative Louise Slaughter, in 2007 by Senator Richard Durbin, then again in 2008. In my opinion I think the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated but also reevaluated and revived so that it fits are society today. The doctrine should include factors that still protect the first amendment but enables the public to be knowledgeable of issues, in which they can form their own opinions on. This gives the responders a chance to know about the train which has had an incident and rush to rescue any victim of the incident. This increases the safety of the railroad. Since there are no such measures that have been put across in the tanker truck, the railroad is a better method of oil transportation. New rules should be introduced for the use of trains in oil transportation. There has been debate over new rules of transporting oil via the railroad. These rules require that trains be installed with new brakes that will stop hazardous materials that are flammable (Stevens, 2015). There have been appeals to challenge the new rules. However, the safety administration denies these calls since their aim is to reduce incidents in the railroad during transportation of oil. This has increased concern about the transportation of oil over the railroad (Stevens, 2015). Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in communityoutreach to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our church s presence in our community. Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting community outreach opportunities is so important.

Other revisionist historians include Dame Francis Yates who interprets Catherine s many volte face as being less and example of Machiavellian scheming and more of an example of how Catherine was, in reality a politique who put the well being of the state before personal religious convictions. As Yanka Kroumova Krasteva contends, Tate constantly takes pictures of the Indians, as if they were archaeological finds. And this is the way he treats his Indian wife (55). School should be a safe area for children to learn instead of fearing for their life. Instead of buying metal detectors and hiring more officers, there is a much easier solution in order to decrease and prevent school shootings. We have to be more alert about securing weapons at home and being aware of suspicious behavior at school in order to keep children and faculty safe. As a child left for school one morning, his parents thought that he had been acting very odd and different. Even with their suspicion, they said goodbye and let their son go to school. It wasn t till later when they had noticed an empty spot in their gun case where a pistol and shotgun used to sit. They rushed to the school and while searching through the halls for their son, their ears echoed with a gunshot from one of the classrooms. Following the gunshot, they rushed into the classroom and immediately disarmed and physically detained their son until police arrived. The only damages the son had caused, was a plate sized hole in the ceiling. If the parents had gotten to the school even one minute later, their son could have been labeled as a murderer. It is sickening to know that a child was able to sneak past his parents, teachers, and students with two firearms on his body. His parents were lucky they arrived when they did because many of people could have been hurt or even worse murdered. Obviously, the child that brought the two firearms to school should be the one punished, but what about the parents. The parents that did not have a weapon that could easily end someone s life, properly locked up or hidden away. If parents are going to carelessly leave firearms unlocked with ammo nearby, what is stopping a child from doing wrong with that firearm? Leaving firearms unlocked with any aged child around, hoping they don t touch it is a dangerous and irresponsible act. When school shootings occur, the individual that brings the weapon to school should be the one punished. Sandberg (1960) quoted that Guernica is a pathetic symbol of the recent past and a warning for the
  • 49. Fosfomycin Resistance Against Salmonella Species A group of researchers from Canada have discovered that there is a gene that confines an antibody from Salmonella. They discovered that this gene is found in broiler chickens. Broiler chickens aren t used as much for egg production. These chickens are known for being raised on farms and then butchered for meat. The researchers took their information and published a journal where the information and research can be found. The gene itself is named fosA7; it got its name because it carries a high level of resistance to fosfomycin. A common use to fosfomycin is an antibiotic and is commonly used to help women cure their urinary tract infections. The 7 is fosA7 represents that it is the seventh of the fosA genes that have been discovered. As of now fosfomycin resistance is limited against Salmonellaspecies.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diarra, is a research scientist in Food Safety at Agriculture and Agri Food Canada. Diarra said, The powerful resistance the fosA7 gene confers is worrisome. It could spread among different Salmonella species, as well as other bacterial pathogen species, via horizontal gene transfer, due to increased use of fosfomycin in both clinical and veterinary settings. Thus, vigilant monitoring for the spread of fosfomycin resistance in bacteria, isolated from humans and animals, is needed. Because of what Diarra said, many researchers wanted to test to see the strength of the resistance. For the researchers to test the strength of this gene they had to clone it and place it into the chromosome that was non antibiotic resistant. The chromosome that they were placing the chromosomes into was Salmonella Enterica. After reviewing their results, they found that their hypothesis was correct. The gene fosA7 is responsible for the resistance of fosfomycin. The gene binds to fosfomycin and this is what causes it to become
  • 50. Solstice And Equinox Informative Speech Thousands of years ago highly advanced ancient peoples built huge megalithic structures and temples that aligned with the sun at the equinoxes and solstices, some such as the Great Pyramids, Angkor Wat, and Easter Island even align with each other from across the world. Some traditions of celebrating the solstice and equinox still survive today, although many others passed into history. While traditions often change their shape or lose their meaning through time, these stone monuments have withstood thousands of years. They were purposefully built as giant symbols and thus have kept a knowledge of the process of enlightenment, and greater spiritual significance of the solstice and equinox, encoded into their structures for us to still read ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Connect with the Heavens and the Earth by Celebrating the Solstices and Equinoxes Solstices and equinoxes are a time of connection between the heavens and the earth, the personal and the divine, the inner and the outer, the material and the spiritual, and even a time when contact through mystical experiences is made more possible. It is a beautiful time, which unfortunately we as a humanity have lost touch with, as did other cultures who degenerated in the past and lost their spiritual foundation. By taking part in ceremonies to celebrate the solstices and equinoxes, one is able to use the event for its higher purpose just as the ancients did to connect with the divine, to understand cosmic, eternal principles through intuitive experience and the cycles of nature, and to take the spiritual nourishment needed to help toward awakening. This is not simply the revival of something past, but the partaking in something eternal that permeates our lives, even if we pay little attention to
  • 51. A Short Note On The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Thunnus Thynnus, or the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, is one of the largest species of tuna, weighing in at over 600 kilograms and four meters in length. It is known for its speed and takes the shape of a torpedo. In its environment, the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna acts as one of the top predators. It preys on smaller fish, such as herring, mackerel and eels. The Atlantic Bluefin Tunais separated into two main populations, Eastern and Western. Although located in different geographical areas they are not isolated and individuals migrate between the two populations allowing gene flow. The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna s population ranges all through the pelagic zone of the Atlantic. The Western Atlantic population spawns in the Gulf of Mexico, and the Eastern Atlantic population spawns in the Mediterranean Sea. In the fishing industry it is highly coveted for sports fishing, especially in the United States and Canada, and in the sashimi market for high end sushi. As a result of the high demands for the Tuna it is being heavily overfished causing the population to decline dramatically. The low supply and high demand for the Tuna has made them extremely valuable; a single fish in Tokyo s Tsukiji fish market sold for 1.76 million dollar (Bluefin, 2013). This high value of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna has resulted in illegal pirate fishing causing more harm to the population. If the illegal pirate fishing and overfishing of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna continues, the species will become extinct resulting
  • 52. Candle Making Through the Centuries Essays The Evolution of Candles For thousands of years, before modern electrical lighting systems were developed, candles existed not for decoration but for the sole purpose of providing artificial light in millions of homes. Here s a brief history of how the candle making industry flourished, declined and regained its prominence through the years. The Ancient Times During the ancient civilisation, candles were made from tallow, or animal fat, extracted from cattle and sheep. The first candles were developed by the ancient Egyptians. These candles, known as rushlights or torches, had no wicks and burned slowly. The Romans were credited for the first creation of candles with wicks, the ones that resembled the candles that are used today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was in the late 18th century that the business of candle making with the use of the spermaceti, a wax obtained by crystallising sperm whale oil, significantly flourished. The spermaceti wax, like beeswax, burned clearly and do not produce foul, acrid odour. Also, the light being generated was significantly brighter compared to the ones emitted by tallow and beeswax. The 19th Century In the 1820s, French chemist Michel Eugene Chevreul discovered a way to extract stearic acid from animal fatty acids, which lead to the development of stearin wax. This type of wax, which is hard and durable, is considered a fundamental element in candle making. In fact, the use of the stearin candles remained popular in Europe until today. In 1834, inventor Joseph Morgan developed a machine that allowed the constant production of moulded candles by using a cylinder with a movable piston that ejects candles as they solidified. With the introduction of this machine, candles became an affordable commodity for the masses. In the 1850s, the paraffin wax was introduced after chemists learned how to effectively separate the naturally occurring waxy substance from petroleum. Paraffin, an odourless and bluish white substance, was considered a helpful element in the candle making process because it burned easily and continuously. It was also more economical than any other candle fuel. The
  • 53. Virginia s Struggle In The Death Of The Moth Although The Death of the Moth seems to be about the struggles of life and death for a moth, it is really about Virginia s own struggles of seizing her moment. She is caught stuck in her thoughts to write something she can verbalize. It is through these struggles as a writer coming to terms with her own unhappiness, at her abilities to write the adventures of her story. Even if she feels happy and fights to write and express herself, the moth is the picture of that lucid writing. She was visualizing her writings through the moments of seizing what she had already pictured. In this writing, we are seeing her past and present struggles for life and the future. Virginia seems to hold back from helping herself; she was envisioning her struggles much like the moth. As she started with only a distraction, it was a small... This was to express her opinion on life as per this passage, One s sympathies of course were all on the side of life (633). Even to know death, she would still believe in living and not give into the enemy in the existence she picked, for her story was one to capture and make her stand on the pages of time. After a time tired by his dancing apparently he settled on the window ledge in the sun (632). Virginia s experiences and path to the light was her final journey. Virginia not only showed her struggle, she showed that no matter the challenge she kept pushing. Along the way there were times that she could have given up yet, One could only watch the extraordinary efforts made by those tiny legs against an oncoming doom (632). However, the glimpse of sunlight from the window was a beacon that allowed her and the moth to reach the other side knowing there is more than darkness in
