The Miller s Tale Essay
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer consists of several characters from various social
classes. Together, these characters go on a pilgrimage to Canterbury and along the journey they
all tell different tales. In order to write this book, Chaucer decided to go on his own pilgrimage
and to also observe people in his everyday life in order to make the characters and the book itself
realistic. Many authors like Chaucer will take real life experiences and incorporate them into their
novels. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses the characters in order to reveal his inner most
opinions of his past. Chaucer s solicitous portrayal of contrary women in The Miller s Tale can
be traced back to his tolerance of the affair between his wife and his best friend. For example,
Alison from The Miller s Tale is having an affair with Nicholas and warns him that My husband
is so full of jealousy, unless you watch your step and hold your breath I know for certain it will be
my death (Chaucer 91). This evidence suggests that Alison was aware of her wrong doing and
knew she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This having been his second and possibly third time visiting Italy, the Italian influence became
more apparent in his work after this visit. The Knight s Tale represents Chaucer s second attempt
to adapt the material of the Teseida written by Italian poet, Giovanni Boccaccio (Rossignal). The
tale is about two prisoner knights who are fighting for the love of one woman. This tale contains
the exact characters and plot of Boccaccio s Teseida. In other words, Chaucer s visit to Italy and
his enlightenment on Italian poets drew him to incorporate an Italian poet s work into his very
own, The Canterbury Tales, but more specifically The Knight s Tale . Not only did Chaucer use
Teseida but the Decameron provided direct parallels for The Reeve s Tale, The Clerk s Tale, The
Merchant s Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Shipman s

Reducing Recidivism Rate Of Juvenile Offenders
Reducing Juvenile Recidivism
Jessica D. Pettit
The University of Texas at Tyler
Abstract
This paper explores the factors that contribute to the recidivism rate of juvenile offenders.
Recidivism refers to a person s relapse into criminal behavior, often after the person receives
sanctions or undergoes intervention for a previous crime. It explains the advantages and
disadvantages that intervention programs, extracurricular activities, education and home and
family life have on juvenile offenders. A juvenile offender is defined as a child or young person
who has been found guilty of some offence, act of vandalism, or antisocial behavior before a
juvenile court (Gelber, 1979). The articles used in this paper are used to inform the reader of
various ways to help reduce the recidivism rate of juvenile offenders. Some of the articles explain
the advantages and others explain the disadvantages of the various programs.
Keywords: recidivism rate, juvenile offenders, reducing juvenile recidivism
Reducing Juvenile Recidivism The juvenile population is society s future and juvenile recidivism
is increasing. Recidivism refers to a person s relapse into criminal behavior, often after the person
receives sanctions or undergoes intervention for a previous crime. Recidivism is measured by
criminal acts that resulted in rearrests and reconviction (Durose, Alexia, Cooper Howard, 2014).
Juvenile recidivism becomes a societal dilemma when the children that commit crimes

The Benefits Of Drunk Driving
Today people all over the world drink alcohol, but is it really worth it? Alcohol is a drug that can
be used for medical reasons, but mostly used for recreational purposes. Alcohol also (when
drinking lots of) can cloud your thinking making you do stupid things you would mostly never do
if you weren t drunk. If alcoholwas banned it would solve many problems such as drunk drivingand
much more. Alcohol should be banned across the country. To start if alcohol was banned drunk
driving would be eliminated. According to the CDC In 2014, 9,967 people were killed in
alcohol impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one third (31%) of all traffic related
deaths in the United States . Drunk driving is caused by alcohol, and without the drug people on
the road will feel safer than ever before. The research today proves that drunk driving is a problem
because of how many die on the road because of driving under the influence. Today there should be

heart disease, stroke, liver disease, digestive problems and more . The usage of alcohol does not
have any real benefits if consumed, alcohol harms anyone if consumed because it makes decision
making hard which that can lead to death. Consuming alcohol should be banned because it can
ruin lives of others not just the person who is consuming the drug. Finally, the usage of alcohol
with other drugs can lead to death by an overdose (or alcohol poisoning). According to an

When Leggings Are Worn
Leggings are a popular type of leg wear that are today worn by women for casual every day
outfits as well as on many other occasions; this wasn t always the case ,they have been worn for
centuries and this style was firstly only for men. The popularity and styling of them has changed
massively over time and despite coming in and out of fashionseveral times, they still remain a
popular piece of leg wear and are considered a fashionable item for many.
Leggings were first introduced in Scotland in the 14th Century and at this point came in two pieces
with each leg put on separately. During this time they were even worn as armour made from chain
mail by knights and others wore them made of leather. They were then worn by men in Europe

What Is The Context Of Macbeth
Societies of different cultural contexts hold many ideologies, and the people of the time period are
expected to not stray from them. William Shakespeare s innovate and tragic drama, Macbeth,
published in 1606 and set in the Jacobean/Elizabethan (Early Modern England), sketches the story
of a Scottish nobleman Macbeth, who one day encounters three witcheswho conjure dark notions of
his future and tell the prophecy that he will one day become King of Scotland. The drama follows

downfall inchmeal, involving madness, murder and utmost guilt. Macbeth is a reflection of its

Zimbardo s Theory Of Social Psychology
Throughout history there have been hundreds upon hundreds of influential figures, although not
all of them have devoted their career to understanding the human mind. Of the few who have
devoted their time to this hugely important task, Dr. Philip G. Zimbardo s theories and
experiments have made him stand out, and differentiate himself from the rest in his profession.
Zimbardo s area of expertise in the field of psychology is social psychology, the branch that deals
with social interactions, including their origins and their effects on the individual. Zimbardo may
be most well known for his Stanford Prison experiment, an experiment that seems to address the
definition of social psychology perfectly. In this experiment Zimbardo had clinically healthy and
sane people volunteer for the position of a prison guard or a prisoner and see how they behaved,
for fifteen dollars a day. The prison was actually the basement of the Stanford psychology building,
where the experiment would take place for a planned 14 days. As said before, the prisoners and
guards were all tested as mentally healthy, and for the sake of the experiment were arrested, and
processed on a random morning, August 14th 1971. (Zimbardo, 2007, p. 23). The results of this
experiment are outstanding, shocking, and somewhat disturbing, making this one of, if not, the
most unethical psychological experiments. Although the experiment is considered wildly immoral,
Zimbardo is one of the most influential psychologists

such as yams. * In a savage setting, the parents would usually not bother to educate their children

Intro: The Ibo people have a civilized community because they have an organized structure to their
society with rules and laws. A society that employs morals, ethics, and accountability for peoples
actions is not uncivilized. The importance of religion and communication, showing through art and
music, shows their advanced mindset as a whole society. The Nigerian country also shows these
qualifications, despite many beliefs that African countries are uncivilized, they are civilized as well.
Family must play a large part in the civilized culture. This shows civilization by explaining how
each member in a society is watched after and taken care of. Religion also must be taken
seriously, and there must be a majority of one religion in a society, or else the culture is too
diverse. This separates them from each other, halting any possible growing as a civilization.

Relationship Between Henson And Peary
Matthew Henson and Robert Peary had a strong relationship. They both had a need for
exploration, fame, and danger, and Henson s need is one of the reasons he started traveling with
Peary. The two men met when Henson was working at a clothing and hat store, when Peary
walked in and offered him a job. This job was to be his personal servant while he was on an
expedition in Nicaragua. Peary was going to head an engineering team to see about the possibility
of digging a canal across Nicaragua. Henson later wrote that he saw qualities in Peary that made
him want to participate in his services. After that expedition, Peary approached Henson with an
idea. He wanted to raise money to go to the arctic and wanted Henson to go with him. On their

much as I can in life to better my life and my future families life. I am constantly bettering myself
because I want to be something in life. I accept myself as I am now, but I am striving to make
something great out of my life.
9. The idea that because something once strongly affected our life, it should indefinitely affect it
instead of the idea that we can learn from our past experiences but not be overly attached to or
prejudiced by them.
10. The idea that we must have certain and perfect control over things instead of the idea that the
world is full of probability and chance and that we can still enjoy life despite this.
Rule 10 about irrational ideas pertains to my life. I can relate to this because I am a
perfectionist, I try to plan everything out in my life. I like to live based on a schedule, but
instead I need to realize that life has its up and downs. It s hard to plan everything out and
sometimes you just need to go with the flow. This is hard for me because I like knowing what I

Energy Deregulation Essay
What is energy deregulation? Energy deregulation is the breakup of the utility monopoly in 35
states. Currently only 11 states allow full deregulation which allows consumers and businesses to
choose their own electricity and gas providers. Energy deregulation is very similar to the AT T
divestiture back in 1984. Consumers businesses were bound to AT T for their local and long
distance services regardless of cost. The break up of AT T to Bell companies allow consumers to
choose providers such as MCI, Sprint, and other telecommunication companies which allowed
increased competition. Energy deregulation will do the same; however the PUC (Public Utilities
Commission) of each given state is cautious of the breakup to prevent another Enron catastrophe.
Also consumers need to make sure what agreement they sign as contracts are usually determined by
fixed and variable rates. Also do not confuse energy deregulation with alternative energy or
renewable energy, energy deregulation simply means shopping for electricity gas services through
the open market.
Energy deregulation has been adopted by many states over the past several years as a way to allow
for multiple energy providers to compete for customers based on price and a higher level of
customer service, break the utility monopoly into separate companies or business unit that separate

Analysis Of Atonement By The Novel Atonement Essay
The novel Atonement tells the story of a woman desperately trying to make for her past
mistakes. The story starts off in the world war two period with the three main characters, Briony,
Robbie and Cecelia, as children and young adults. Robbie comes from the poor Turner Family,
while Briony and Cecilia are sisters in the powerful and wealthy Tallis Family. After observing a
set of peculiar and awkward encounters between Robbie and Cecilia, Briony wrongly assumes
Robbie as an evil character. After Paul, a rich sociopath invited to the dinner, rapes Lola, a cousin
of the Tallises, Briony immediately assumes that the culprit is none other than Robbie and
publicly accuses him. Robbie is sent off to prison, and then world war two to end his
imprisonment. Robbie and Cecelia still stay in touch through letters. Robbie bravely survives the
war and returns home to Cecelia after several failed attempts and encounters. Briony s apology
attempts are shunned by the reunited couple as they live on peacefully. However, the shock ending
in the epilogue reveals that the whole narrative was authored by Briony herself and not by an
unknown narrator. She states that both of the couple died before ever meeting each other after
separation and feels responsible. The publishing of this story where their lovelasts in peace is
simply Briony s way of achieving atonement. Much of the story and most of Briony s guilt hinges

Drug Testing and Ethics Essay
Camille Dickinson Business Ethics Module 5 November 27th 2010 Is drug testing an
unwarranted invasion of employee privacy? Which is more important getting drugs out of the
workplace or protecting the privacy of the employee? What about other health threatening
activities, i.e. smoking outside of working hours, unprotected sex, etc. Should employers be able
to question or test employees or potential employees about these activities? Both of these
scenarios are tricky ones. On the one hand, any employer would want to get drugs out of the
workplace. On the other hand you don t want to invade an employee s privacy. At the same time

My husband in his decision to fire Bruce was also acting partially from an egoist point of view
since an unemployed Bruce meant a sober Bruce which meant no trips to the ER which meant
that my husband wouldn t have to deal with a cursing, screaming, bloody drunk Bruce. At the
same time he was also acting from Kant s theory which states that Only when we act from a
sense of duty does our action have moral worth (Shaw amp; Barry, 2010 p69). My husband felt
that it was his duty as a member of the medical profession, not to enable a habit that could
possibly cause harm to an individual. A high incidence of false positive results in drug testing is
another reason for the argument that drug testing should not be used. In researching this paper I
was surprised to learn how many over the counter drugs can produce false positive results.

Also, the narrator uses a lot of detail to describe what the juggler is doing. The readers can

imagery they see. He starts off juggling five red balls. He then switches to a plate, a broom and

A Novel Study of Bee Colony Optimization Algorithms for their Applications into Various Domains
INTRODUCTION The Bee Colony Optimization (BCO) is a technique based on the mutual
understanding of the natural bees in food foraging process. It is a population based search
algorithm for optimizing numerical problems. Bees are classic example of teamwork experience,
coordination and synchronization. The way they work is remarkable. They carry out a kind of
neighborhood search combined with global search by mimic the food foraging behavior. The
foraging strategy of Bees is used to look for the best solution to an optimization problem. In this
process each candidate solution is considered as food source and a population of Bees is used to
search solution space. At each and every instant a Bee visits a source it evaluates its profitability. It
allows meaningful generalization to optimize various problems by recognizing a profitable
solution to complex engineering problems. It provides an adequate conceptual framework as well
as a mathematical tool to depict the real world problems in an optimized way. It is one of the well
know techniques with its successful applications in various domains. Bee colony optimization
technique is recommended above other means of optimizations because it provides clarity and
errors in case of optimal solutions. This algorithm can also be analyzed as a path structuring
algorithm that structure the path from one source to another tracing the

Unfortunately, the majority of illiterate individuals suffer from poverty, and are raised in

The Russian Revolution And The Revolution
In 1917 a great revolution would collapse Russia s monarchy and extend the color of red throughout
the world. During this time, Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin were instrumental in causing the
grand collapse of the Russian government and the reformation into a communist state. The Russian
revolution changed the world when it happened and I believe it changed the people of Europe after
it occurred.
The Russian Revolution actually has two important parts to it the February Revolution (March
1917) and the October Revolution (November 1917). The February Revolution, which took place in
modern day St. Petersburg, was lethal to the royal government of Russia. It began with the bread, it
was not like they did not have the supplies for the population, the problem was the breakdown of
the transport system (Figes 68). The February Revolution was also largely caused by the
ineffectiveness of the Russian military in World War One and the failure of the Russian empire
throughout the last couple decades. The people of Russia were ashamed of the military
throwing away their lives and having to eat sparingly to survive the winter. Peasants were so
poor they could barely afford a piece of bread for a week. Mass demonstrations were held in the
squares and violence took to the streets. People ambushed the royal guards in front of the palace
and they were shot down by the insignificant force left to guard the capital. The revolution was
largely leaderless as Russian people just wanted food

Bail Support Program Service
Background
The Bail Support Program Service began on the month of January in the year 2001 as the Pilot
Bail Advocacy Program and lead by the Melbourne Magistrates Court and Corrections Victoria. In
2003, the pilot bail advocacy program grew and the management moved to the Magistrates Court of
Victoria. On December 2004 it was fused with the Court Referral and Evaluation for Drug
Intervention and Treatment Program.

Provide early treatment, including access to drug treatment and rehabilitation programs. Reduce
risk of the client re offending. The Bail support program also aids an accused person that would
otherwise be remanded in custody to be granted bail and to remain on bail to satisfy the conditions
of their bail. A decrease of relevant services to aid youth to gain bail and meet the conditions has
been noted as possibly contributing towards the large number of youth on custodial remand, mainly
for the indigenous community and younger people who reside in more remote and regional areas.
Because of this the provision aid in finishing bail orders can partake a critical role in decreasing
rates of custodial remand. The bail Support programs are mainly aimed at the youth or adults, to
distinguish the different needs of the groups. The jurisdictions youth Justice department or non
government organisations give them. The Bail support program was created from two other bail
programs. The Bail support program main aim is to achieve the successful completion of bail by the
accused that would normally be in custody. Reduce the amount of accused kept in remand because
of lack of treatment, support from the community and lack of accommodation.

Hillary Clinton Trump Persuasive Essay
Americans take their right from the first amendment very seriously; freedom of speech. Politics is
one of the most controversial topics especially in the United States. With the two candidates
running this year Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump it is no surprise it brings up such a dispute. In
2012, almost 130 million Americans casted a vote for the presidential election. With all the
argument between voters and nonvoters, it brings a lot more pressure onto Trump and Clinton to
try to gain supports and make themselves look better than the other. By doing this, they create ads
to reach those they have not yet convinced to be on their team. As we all know, Donald Trumploves
to give people a hard time and bring down whoever is not like him. But Hillary Clinton gave him
a taste of his own medicine in her advertisement, Role Models. In the 2016 political ad Role
Models by Hillary Clinton, she is successful in criticizing Donald Trump to favor herself by the
use of lighting, facial expressions, and direct quotes.. Lighting in this advertisement is a key in
demonstrating the difference between the two candidates. As seen in the first 40 seconds of the
video, Donald Trump is on the television in the homes of children who are viewing his rallies.

The central message this advertisement conveys to the audience is that Trump is not fit for kids, so
he shouldn t be fit to be the president. The video is created in a unique way to incorporate every
element to send the feeling of dismissal towards Trump. Using facial expressions, quotes and
lighting, it really sends the idea that children shouldn t witness foul language and violence and we
should want to have a better role model for kids like Hillary Clinton claims she would

The Theory Of Dark Matter
Introduction
Earth can be seen as a grain of sand on the beach once we compare it to the whole universe. The
question is what possible could occupy the majority of the universe, just within the Solar System
we can see that the planets are orbiting around the Sun. We can determine where the planets are
by calculating how fast the planet moves and where it is at in a certain time. So if the planet isn t
where you calculated it to be at what are the causes? One possibility is that we still don t fully
understand all laws of gravity or there is extra mass within the Solar System that is causing the
planets to alter their trajectory. This lead scientists to believe in the existence of dark matterand so
began investigations and experiments to learn whether it actually existed or not (Start with a bang,
2013).
Concepts and differences
The theory of dark matter stems from the fact that there is not enough normal matter, as the
gravity of normal matter isn t strong enough to form galaxies and complex structures. The stars
will more likely be disorganized and not form galaxies. Hence we know there is some exterior
reason, something that does emit or reflect light, something dark. All we know is that there is
something out there, there is a lot of it and it has something to do with gravity. The most popular
idea is that within the cosmos there is a dominant source of gravity which is an unidentified type of
mass which cannot be seen by the naked eye known as dark matter. Dark matter

Examples Of Memory Distrust Syndrome
Memory Distrust Syndrome
This article talks about how some people will confess to a crime they did not commit because they
force themselves to believe that they did the crime but have no recollection of it.. Memory Distrust
Syndrome is a term that describes a person s susceptibility during an interrogation to take
responsibility in the crime on account of them distrusting their own memory. These people have
had preceding memory impairments, and use this to convince themselves that they are the guilty
party (Gudjonsson, Sigurdsson, Sigurdardottir, Steinthorsson, Sigurdardottir, 2014). This condition
was based off of three criminal cases, with the first case about a man who suspected of murder. He
had a previous manslaughter conviction and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
False confessions that fall under coerced internalized correlate most with memory distrust
(Gudjonsson et al., 2014). Memory distrust on some instances is internally caused, but is most
commonly a result induced by police over the course of a lengthy and forcefully influential
interrogation. These interrogations break down the suspect s denial and opposition, using drawn
out, cunning and repetitive interviewing that could potentially make the suspect distrust their
memory and falsely confess to a crime they did not commit (Gudjonsson et al., 2014). It concerns
me that police are so eager and set on a particular person being guilty, that they would rather force
the potentially innocent person into falsely confessing instead of listening to their alibi and
reconsidering a new suspect. This research is immensely important to both psychology and law
because no man should be imprisoned for a crime he or she did not commit, and no man should be
manipulated into confessing to a crime to escape a strenuous situation. It is also rather unsettling to
know that some men or women who committed crimes, no matter the degree, are walking free
because the law failed in catching the actual

Example Of Flexible Work Schedules
Flexible Work Schedule The beginning of work life started at the break of dawn. Most workers
were bound to their work for as long as daylight was available (Chung). During the Industrial
Revolution employees worked in factories on an assembly line(Chung). Workers clocked in at
the same time, took lunch at the same time, and clocked out at the same time (Chung). They
worked as if they were part of the machine (Chung). In modern times employee s work within
office buildings similar to assembly line workers they have a fixed schedule and work towards
the ultimate goal of the organization (Chung). In modern days corporations are considering the
benefits of a flexible work schedule because it can contribute to a successful work life balance by
enriching families, improving an employee s health and improving production. Modern technology
such as cell phones, tablets, and computers permits a more flexible work schedule because it
allows employees to stay connected to the office even if they are miles away (Chung).
Alternative work schedule are schedules does not fit the 8 hr day, 40 hr week definition (Baltes et
al. 496). Some examples of common alternative work schedules include flexible working hours,
compressed work weeks, part time, and telecommuting (Baltes et al. 496). Alternative work
schedules, such as flextime and compressed work weeks, have been adopted by many
organizations over the past several decades (Baltes et al. 496). A recent report that surveyed 1,035

Federalist And Dual Federalism
The United States under the Articles of Confederation had a Federalist nation in its truest and basest
sense. Originally, the Articles united the separate states together under an extremely weak central
Congress with few powers. That left most of the powers of government with the states, which
caused many problems in terms of regulation and protection of rights and liberties. Most states had
different currencies, taxes, protections of rights (in the individual state constitutions), and other
policies that made it difficult for the states to coexist, however, with the power in the individual
states, most policy more closely reflected the peoples of the region. When it became clear that the
Articles of Confederation were no longer working... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also argued that the federal courts would be too far away from the average citizen to provide
justice, something they extended to the other federal branches of government as well. When
debating the content of the Constitution, Anti Federalists called for a clearer articulation of the
rights of the people and government, which brought about more compromises and content in the
ratified Constitution. Delaware was the first state who voted, unanimously, to ratify the
Constitution on December 7, 1787 and Rhode Island was the last state to ratify it almost three
years later on May 29, 1790 (archives.gov, 2016). The document was able to go into effect earlier
because ratification only required nine votes for it from the states, which only took 10 months
through New Hampshire (archives.gov, 2016). Many states who approved ratification later did so
under the requirement that the Framers added a declaration of rights to the Constitution.
Throughout the ratification process, before the first state even ratified the Constitution and through
1790, several people wrote The Federalist Papers under the pseudonym Publius. They were a
collection of papers supporting the ratification of the new Constitution and the formation of a more
democratic republic. Federalist Paper #10 was written by James Madison in 1787 and contains one
of the best arguments for the formation of the new

Examples Of Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson: Ambivalence in Nature Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet from
the mid nineteenth century. She had lived reclusively with her parents, composing approximately
1,800 known works of poetry. When she tried to get some of them published, they were rejected for
their strange punctuation and capitalization. Dickinson refused to change her writingstyle and
eventually gave up on poetry. Only until four years after her deathwas all of her poetry discovered
and published by a neighbor and close friend. Since Dickinson never thought her works would be
published, none of her poems had titles. Literary scholars identified and numbered these poems 1
1800. It is also acceptable to identify these poems by their first line.... Show more content on

Unlike in A Bird came down the Walk, Dickinson is interacting with nature in A narrow Fellow
in the Grass, and she, once again, can be seen experiencing a feeling of ambivalence about
nature. When Dickinson writes His notice instant is (4) she seems to describe the two being
spontaneously spooked by each other s presence. However, later in the poem, Dickinson says:
Several of Nature s People I know and they know me I feel for them a transport Of Cordiality (17
20).
By expressing her thoughts with words such as cordiality, she suggests that the snake, although
potentially dangerous and frightening, can also be calm and gracious. The snake can represent both
sides of the spectrum and strengthening Dickinson s claim of nature s ambivalence. Dickinson s
poem, Apparently with no surprise, expresses her same theme of confusion about nature. In the
beginning of the poem, Dickinson says:
Apparently with no surprise,
To any happy flower,
The frost beheads it at its play,
In accidental power.
The blond assassin passes on. (1 5)
She is explaining the process of flowers dying to the cold frost overnight. With her language and
comparison of the frost to an assassin, one can assume that Dickinson disapproves of nature s
brutal actions. However, in the first line of the poem, Dickinson introduces the events as no
surprise, so she understands that it s a normal course of action in terms of nature and that time will
go on. Later in the poem she

Analysis Of The Seventh Man By Haruki Murakami
Imagine you just stood back while watching your best friend get swept up into an enormous
wave in a typhoon, and he ends up deceased. You d feel horrific, appaling, and guilty. You couldn
t move in the moment when it had happened, you were frozen, everything happened in a sluggish
speed. You wanted to reach out and grab him, but just couldn t think of how to react, something
was holding you back... and that something, was fear. However, if you tried saving him, your life
may have been taken away as well. You dont know weather to feel guilty for failing to save your
friend, or if you should be grateful that you survived. Should you forgive yourself for failing to
save your friend even though it wasn t your responsibility to save them? Correspondingly, in The
Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami, the narrator has trouble forgiving himself after this tragic
incident of his friend K . He has nightmares of K every night, and he sees him again. Sometimes
he gets sucked into the wave along with K and he wakes up in the night screaming, breathless,
and drenched in sweat. Although the nightmares differentiated, he tells about some of the the
worst ones that have occured, Then, all of a sudden, someone grabs my right leg. I feel an ice
cold grip on my ankle. ... I m being dragged down under the surface. I see K s face there. ... I tried

Trans-Trans Dibenzalacetone Lab Report
After the crude product was collected by crystallization process, it was weighted to be 8.4756 g.
it was recrystallized and collected. The weight of pure product was obtained to be 5.772 g In
comparison to the theoretical yield of the experiment; it was calculated to be 65.99 % recover and
82% total yield. The melting point (MP) of the product was taken in order to identify the product.
2 trials were performed, and the results of both trials are the same, 102 105oC. The expected
product of this experiment was dibenzalacetone, which has 3 different isomers: cis cis, trans

comparison to all the isomers, the product s MP was closet to trans trans dibenzalacetone,
although the product MP was lower than the true MP of trans trans dibenzalacetone. There were
some possible reasons why the MP of the product was lower. The intermediate, benzalacetone with
the MP of 42oC (Ref. 2), could be existed in the product resulting in lower the MP of the product.
Another reason could be that the cis trans isomer of dibenzalacetone existed in the product. In order

The Contrapasso of Caiaphas in Dante s Inferno Essay
In Canto XXIII of Dante s Inferno, the hypocrites, especially Caiaphas, provide an excellent
example of Divine Justice as contrapasso. The hypocrites presented their ideas as pure and good,
while in reality, they did not act according to their supposed morality or practice the virtues that
they preached. Because in life, the hypocrites said one thing and did another, their heavy garments
seem one thing and are, yet another. The ornate priestly robes worn by the hypocrites are beautiful
and impressive on the outside, but are in reality leaden instruments of torture. Contrapasso is
evident in this circle of Hell, because although outwardly the Hypocrites appear lovely and perfect,
underneath their gilded exterior lies only the heaviness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, he was a hypocrite a man who proclaimed to live for God, but lived instead for his own
interests. Caiaphas did not carry out the law through his secret actions and private dealings with
others. He deliberately appeared good and holy to the people, but in reality, he spoke of one
doctrine, and lived another. Secondly, Caiaphas, as High Priest, insisted that the Sanhedrin crucify
Jesus, because he feared losing his position and power. And thirdly, his hypocrisy sentenced one
who was innocent to bear the sins and guilt of all. Caiaphas was purportedly the authority on God
s Word, but he condemned the Word Made Flesh to death on a cross. As the Justice of Inferno
indicates, the punishment for Caiaphas three fold sin is also three fold. First, because of his
hypocritical life, he is damned to the sixth pocket of the eighth circle of Hell, where he will
suffer for all eternity. Dante referred to the hypocrites burden as a tiring mantle for all eternity
(1.23.67). He described the cloaks as so heavy / that Frederick s capes were straw compared to
them (1.23.65 6), which is a reference to Frederick II, who was notorious for executing criminals by
wrapping them in metal capes and then melting them. And this is only the punishment for the first
part of Caiaphas sins! Secondly, because he condemned the Lord to crucifixion, Caiaphas too is
crucified. Thirdly, because he suggested that one man, rather than one nation, should suffer the
penalty of

A Study Of Ja Biosynthesis
The study of JA biosynthesis in both dicots and monocots revealed that phospholipids such as
linolenic (18:2) and О± linolenic (18:3) acid are released from chloroplast membranes through the
action of phospholipases. In the subsequent steps formation of hydroperoxy octadecadienoic acids
(e.g., 13S HPODE and 9S HPODE) occurs through dioxygenation. These steps are catalyzed by
lipoxygenases (LOXs; 9 LOX and 13 LOX). In futher steps HPODEs are converted to 12 oxo
phytodienoic acid (12 OPDA) in plastids, catalyzed first by allene oxide synthase (AOS; EC
4.2.1.92) and subsequently by allene oxide cyclase (AOC; EC 5.3.99.6). 12 oxo phytodienoic acid
is then reduced to JA via the action of 12 OPDA reductase (OPR; EC 1.3.1.42) followed by three
cycles of пЃў oxidation in the peroxisome (Lyons et al., 2013). Jasmonic acid is also metabolized
to a variety of products that include the MeJA, amide conjugates with amino acids (JA Ile),
conjugates with sugars and hydroxylated and didehydro derivatives (Staswick, 2008). All
enzymes and proteins involved in JA biosynthesis and perception have been cloned from various
plant species and some of them have been crystallized (e.g. 13 LOX, 13 AOS, AOC, ACYL CoA
OXIDASE1, OPR3, JAR1 and the SCFCOI1 JAZ co receptor complex) (Kombrink, 2012;
Wasternack and Hause, 2013). As a ubiquitously occurring plant growth regulator, JA has been
reported to contribute significantly in plant stress defense by playing role as a signal of

Piaget s Theory Of The Stages Of Development Essay
Conservation is the ability to understand that as an object changes form, it does not change the
overall amount or mass. In Piaget s theory, he describes that during the pre operational stage of
development children are often incapable of understanding the concept of conservation, the
ages in this stage generally range from 2 6 years old (Siegler Alibali, 2005). It isn t until the
concrete operational stage that children have the ability to understand conservation. During this
stage children range from the ages of 7 12 years old. In order to observe the changes in between
stages, I chose to administer Piaget s conservation of solid quantity to two different children. The
task administered was to see if the two children would be able to see a transformation when I
rolled out one of the two balls of clay. Piaget illustrated a stage model that explains the different
stages of development starting at birth and continuing to twelve years old and onwards. In the task
that I will be conducting it involves two of the four stages. The first stage is the pre operational
period. During this time children are exhibiting egocentrism as well as using symbolic
representations, such as symbols or using signs. When children are in the pre operational stage they
do not have the ability to see transformations, instead they focus on fixed states. It is not until the
concrete operational stage that children are able to see these transformations between states. The

  • 2. The Miller s Tale Essay The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer consists of several characters from various social classes. Together, these characters go on a pilgrimage to Canterbury and along the journey they all tell different tales. In order to write this book, Chaucer decided to go on his own pilgrimage and to also observe people in his everyday life in order to make the characters and the book itself realistic. Many authors like Chaucer will take real life experiences and incorporate them into their novels. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses the characters in order to reveal his inner most opinions of his past. Chaucer s solicitous portrayal of contrary women in The Miller s Tale can be traced back to his tolerance of the affair between his wife and his best friend. For example, Alison from The Miller s Tale is having an affair with Nicholas and warns him that My husband is so full of jealousy, unless you watch your step and hold your breath I know for certain it will be my death (Chaucer 91). This evidence suggests that Alison was aware of her wrong doing and knew she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, Chaucer s visit to Italy and his enlightenment on Italian poets drew him to incorporate an Italian poet s work into his very own, The Canterbury Tales, but more specifically The Knight s Tale . Not only did Chaucer use Teseida but the Decameron provided direct parallels for The Reeve s Tale, The Clerk s Tale, The Merchant s Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Shipman s ... • 8. Zimbardo s Theory Of Social Psychology Throughout history there have been hundreds upon hundreds of influential figures, although not all of them have devoted their career to understanding the human mind. Of the few who have devoted their time to this hugely important task, Dr. Philip G. Zimbardo s theories and experiments have made him stand out, and differentiate himself from the rest in his profession. Zimbardo s area of expertise in the field of psychology is social psychology, the branch that deals with social interactions, including their origins and their effects on the individual. Zimbardo may be most well known for his Stanford Prison experiment, an experiment that seems to address the definition of social psychology perfectly. In this experiment Zimbardo had clinically healthy and sane people volunteer for the position of a prison guard or a prisoner and see how they behaved, for fifteen dollars a day. The prison was actually the basement of the Stanford psychology building, where the experiment would take place for a planned 14 days. As said before, the prisoners and guards were all tested as mentally healthy, and for the sake of the experiment were arrested, and processed on a random morning, August 14th 1971. (Zimbardo, 2007, p. 23). The results of this experiment are outstanding, shocking, and somewhat disturbing, making this one of, if not, the most unethical psychological experiments. A society that employs morals, ethics, and accountability for peoples actions is not uncivilized. The importance of religion and communication, showing through art and music, shows their advanced mindset as a whole society. The Nigerian country also shows these qualifications, despite many beliefs that African countries are uncivilized, they are civilized as well. Family must play a large part in the civilized culture. This shows civilization by explaining how each member in a society is watched after and taken care of. Religion also must be taken seriously, and there must be a majority of one religion in a society, or else the culture is too diverse. • 12. Energy Deregulation Essay What is energy deregulation? Energy deregulation is the breakup of the utility monopoly in 35 states. Currently only 11 states allow full deregulation which allows consumers and businesses to choose their own electricity and gas providers. Energy deregulation is very similar to the AT T divestiture back in 1984. Consumers businesses were bound to AT T for their local and long distance services regardless of cost. The break up of AT T to Bell companies allow consumers to choose providers such as MCI, Sprint, and other telecommunication companies which allowed increased competition. Energy deregulation will do the same; however the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) of each given state is cautious of the breakup to prevent another Enron catastrophe. Also consumers need to make sure what agreement they sign as contracts are usually determined by fixed and variable rates. Also do not confuse energy deregulation with alternative energy or renewable energy, energy deregulation simply means shopping for electricity gas services through the open market. The story starts off in the world war two period with the three main characters, Briony, Robbie and Cecelia, as children and young adults. Robbie comes from the poor Turner Family, while Briony and Cecilia are sisters in the powerful and wealthy Tallis Family. After observing a set of peculiar and awkward encounters between Robbie and Cecilia, Briony wrongly assumes Robbie as an evil character. A Novel Study of Bee Colony Optimization Algorithms for their Applications into Various Domains INTRODUCTION The Bee Colony Optimization (BCO) is a technique based on the mutual understanding of the natural bees in food foraging process. It is a population based search algorithm for optimizing numerical problems. Bees are classic example of teamwork experience, coordination and synchronization. The way they work is remarkable. They carry out a kind of neighborhood search combined with global search by mimic the food foraging behavior. The foraging strategy of Bees is used to look for the best solution to an optimization problem. In this process each candidate solution is considered as food source and a population of Bees is used to search solution space. At each and every instant a Bee visits a source it evaluates its profitability. It allows meaningful generalization to optimize various problems by recognizing a profitable solution to complex engineering problems. It provides an adequate conceptual framework as well as a mathematical tool to depict the real world problems in an optimized way. It is one of the well know techniques with its successful applications in various domains. Bee colony optimization technique is recommended above other means of optimizations because it provides clarity and errors in case of optimal solutions. During this time, Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin were instrumental in causing the grand collapse of the Russian government and the reformation into a communist state. The Russian revolution changed the world when it happened and I believe it changed the people of Europe after it occurred. The Russian Revolution actually has two important parts to it the February Revolution (March 1917) and the October Revolution (November 1917). The February Revolution, which took place in modern day St. Petersburg, was lethal to the royal government of Russia. It began with the bread, it was not like they did not have the supplies for the population, the problem was the breakdown of the transport system (Figes 68). The February Revolution was also largely caused by the ineffectiveness of the Russian military in World War One and the failure of the Russian empire throughout the last couple decades. The people of Russia were ashamed of the military throwing away their lives and having to eat sparingly to survive the winter. Peasants were so poor they could barely afford a piece of bread for a week. Mass demonstrations were held in the squares and violence took to the streets. People ambushed the royal guards in front of the palace and they were shot down by the insignificant force left to guard the capital. We can determine where the planets are by calculating how fast the planet moves and where it is at in a certain time. So if the planet isn t where you calculated it to be at what are the causes? One possibility is that we still don t fully understand all laws of gravity or there is extra mass within the Solar System that is causing the planets to alter their trajectory. This lead scientists to believe in the existence of dark matterand so began investigations and experiments to learn whether it actually existed or not (Start with a bang, 2013). Concepts and differences The theory of dark matter stems from the fact that there is not enough normal matter, as the gravity of normal matter isn t strong enough to form galaxies and complex structures. The stars will more likely be disorganized and not form galaxies. Hence we know there is some exterior reason, something that does emit or reflect light, something dark. All we know is that there is something out there, there is a lot of it and it has something to do with gravity. The most popular idea is that within the cosmos there is a dominant source of gravity which is an unidentified type of mass which cannot be seen by the naked eye known as dark matter. Dark matter ... • 28. Examples Of Memory Distrust Syndrome Memory Distrust Syndrome This article talks about how some people will confess to a crime they did not commit because they force themselves to believe that they did the crime but have no recollection of it.. Memory Distrust Syndrome is a term that describes a person s susceptibility during an interrogation to take responsibility in the crime on account of them distrusting their own memory. These people have had preceding memory impairments, and use this to convince themselves that they are the guilty party (Gudjonsson, Sigurdsson, Sigurdardottir, Steinthorsson, Sigurdardottir, 2014). This condition was based off of three criminal cases, with the first case about a man who suspected of murder. He had a previous manslaughter conviction and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... False confessions that fall under coerced internalized correlate most with memory distrust (Gudjonsson et al., 2014). Memory distrust on some instances is internally caused, but is most commonly a result induced by police over the course of a lengthy and forcefully influential interrogation. These interrogations break down the suspect s denial and opposition, using drawn out, cunning and repetitive interviewing that could potentially make the suspect distrust their memory and falsely confess to a crime they did not commit (Gudjonsson et al., 2014). It concerns me that police are so eager and set on a particular person being guilty, that they would rather force the potentially innocent person into falsely confessing instead of listening to their alibi and reconsidering a new suspect. This research is immensely important to both psychology and law because no man should be imprisoned for a crime he or she did not commit, and no man should be manipulated into confessing to a crime to escape a strenuous situation. It is also rather unsettling to know that some men or women who committed crimes, no matter the degree, are walking free because the law failed in catching the actual ... • 29. Example Of Flexible Work Schedules Flexible Work Schedule The beginning of work life started at the break of dawn. Most workers were bound to their work for as long as daylight was available (Chung). During the Industrial Revolution employees worked in factories on an assembly line(Chung). Workers clocked in at the same time, took lunch at the same time, and clocked out at the same time (Chung). They worked as if they were part of the machine (Chung). In modern times employee s work within office buildings similar to assembly line workers they have a fixed schedule and work towards the ultimate goal of the organization (Chung). In modern days corporations are considering the benefits of a flexible work schedule because it can contribute to a successful work life balance by enriching families, improving an employee s health and improving production. Modern technology such as cell phones, tablets, and computers permits a more flexible work schedule because it allows employees to stay connected to the office even if they are miles away (Chung). Alternative work schedule are schedules does not fit the 8 hr day, 40 hr week definition (Baltes et al. 496). Some examples of common alternative work schedules include flexible working hours, compressed work weeks, part time, and telecommuting (Baltes et al. 496). • 30. Federalist And Dual Federalism The United States under the Articles of Confederation had a Federalist nation in its truest and basest sense. Originally, the Articles united the separate states together under an extremely weak central Congress with few powers. That left most of the powers of government with the states, which caused many problems in terms of regulation and protection of rights and liberties. Most states had different currencies, taxes, protections of rights (in the individual state constitutions), and other policies that made it difficult for the states to coexist, however, with the power in the individual states, most policy more closely reflected the peoples of the region. Delaware was the first state who voted, unanimously, to ratify the Constitution on December 7, 1787 and Rhode Island was the last state to ratify it almost three years later on May 29, 1790 (archives.gov, 2016). The document was able to go into effect earlier because ratification only required nine votes for it from the states, which only took 10 months through New Hampshire (archives.gov, 2016). Many states who approved ratification later did so under the requirement that the Framers added a declaration of rights to the Constitution. Throughout the ratification process, before the first state even ratified the Constitution and through 1790, several people wrote The Federalist Papers under the pseudonym Publius. • 31. Examples Of Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson: Ambivalence in Nature Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet from the mid nineteenth century. She had lived reclusively with her parents, composing approximately 1,800 known works of poetry. When she tried to get some of them published, they were rejected for their strange punctuation and capitalization. Dickinson refused to change her writingstyle and eventually gave up on poetry. Only until four years after her deathwas all of her poetry discovered and published by a neighbor and close friend. Since Dickinson never thought her works would be published, none of her poems had titles. Literary scholars identified and numbered these poems 1 1800. Unlike in A Bird came down the Walk, Dickinson is interacting with nature in A narrow Fellow in the Grass, and she, once again, can be seen experiencing a feeling of ambivalence about nature. When Dickinson writes His notice instant is (4) she seems to describe the two being spontaneously spooked by each other s presence. However, later in the poem, Dickinson says: Several of Nature s People I know and they know me I feel for them a transport Of Cordiality (17 20). By expressing her thoughts with words such as cordiality, she suggests that the snake, although potentially dangerous and frightening, can also be calm and gracious. The snake can represent both sides of the spectrum and strengthening Dickinson s claim of nature s ambivalence. Dickinson s poem, Apparently with no surprise, expresses her same theme of confusion about nature. In the beginning of the poem, Dickinson says: Apparently with no surprise, To any happy flower, The frost beheads it at its play, In accidental power. The blond assassin passes on. With her language and comparison of the frost to an assassin, one can assume that Dickinson disapproves of nature s brutal actions. • 35. The Contrapasso of Caiaphas in Dante s Inferno Essay In Canto XXIII of Dante s Inferno, the hypocrites, especially Caiaphas, provide an excellent example of Divine Justice as contrapasso. The hypocrites presented their ideas as pure and good, while in reality, they did not act according to their supposed morality or practice the virtues that they preached. Because in life, the hypocrites said one thing and did another, their heavy garments seem one thing and are, yet another. The ornate priestly robes worn by the hypocrites are beautiful and impressive on the outside, but are in reality leaden instruments of torture. Caiaphas did not carry out the law through his secret actions and private dealings with others. He deliberately appeared good and holy to the people, but in reality, he spoke of one doctrine, and lived another. Secondly, Caiaphas, as High Priest, insisted that the Sanhedrin crucify Jesus, because he feared losing his position and power. And thirdly, his hypocrisy sentenced one who was innocent to bear the sins and guilt of all. Caiaphas was purportedly the authority on God s Word, but he condemned the Word Made Flesh to death on a cross. As the Justice of Inferno indicates, the punishment for Caiaphas three fold sin is also three fold. First, because of his hypocritical life, he is damned to the sixth pocket of the eighth circle of Hell, where he will suffer for all eternity. Dante referred to the hypocrites burden as a tiring mantle for all eternity (1.23.67). He described the cloaks as so heavy / that Frederick s capes were straw compared to them (1.23.65 6), which is a reference to Frederick II, who was notorious for executing criminals by wrapping them in metal capes and then melting them. • 37. A Study Of Ja Biosynthesis The study of JA biosynthesis in both dicots and monocots revealed that phospholipids such as linolenic (18:2) and О± linolenic (18:3) acid are released from chloroplast membranes through the action of phospholipases. In the subsequent steps formation of hydroperoxy octadecadienoic acids (e.g., 13S HPODE and 9S HPODE) occurs through dioxygenation. These steps are catalyzed by lipoxygenases (LOXs; 9 LOX and 13 LOX). In futher steps HPODEs are converted to 12 oxo phytodienoic acid (12 OPDA) in plastids, catalyzed first by allene oxide synthase (AOS; EC 4.2.1.92) and subsequently by allene oxide cyclase (AOC; EC 5.3.99.6). 12 oxo phytodienoic acid is then reduced to JA via the action of 12 OPDA reductase (OPR; EC 1.3.1.42) followed by three cycles of пЃў oxidation in the peroxisome (Lyons et al., 2013). Jasmonic acid is also metabolized to a variety of products that include the MeJA, amide conjugates with amino acids (JA Ile), conjugates with sugars and hydroxylated and didehydro derivatives (Staswick, 2008). All enzymes and proteins involved in JA biosynthesis and perception have been cloned from various plant species and some of them have been crystallized (e.g. 13 LOX, 13 AOS, AOC, ACYL CoA OXIDASE1, OPR3, JAR1 and the SCFCOI1 JAZ co receptor complex) (Kombrink, 2012; Wasternack and Hause, 2013). In Piaget s theory, he describes that during the pre operational stage of development children are often incapable of understanding the concept of conservation, the ages in this stage generally range from 2 6 years old (Siegler Alibali, 2005). It isn t until the concrete operational stage that children have the ability to understand conservation. During this stage children range from the ages of 7 12 years old. In order to observe the changes in between stages, I chose to administer Piaget s conservation of solid quantity to two different children. The task administered was to see if the two children would be able to see a transformation when I rolled out one of the two balls of clay. Piaget illustrated a stage model that explains the different stages of development starting at birth and continuing to twelve years old and onwards. In the task that I will be conducting it involves two of the four stages. The first stage is the pre operational period. During this time children are exhibiting egocentrism as well as using symbolic representations, such as symbols or using signs.
