Family Farming as Opposed to the Industrial Side of...
The federal government should support the family farms of today rather than the industrial side of
agriculture.
In 1930 there was around seven million farms in the United States, now there is about two million.
Advocates for farming and agriculture are worried about losing farms and farmland (source E). The
total number of farms has fallen dramatically since the 1930s, but the number of larger farms has
grown. Today small farms make up 92 percent of all U.S. farms and the other eight percent are large
and very large family farms and nonfamily farms (source L). Even with the loss of many farms and
farmers, the number of acres of farmland remains constant. The size of farms has increased, but not all
farms are the same size (source E). The technology of today has made it possible to farm more land
with fewer producers (source A). There is 915 million acres in farmland in the United States and the
average farm size is 434 acres. In Kansas there are around 65,500 farms with 707 acres in average.
Eighty eight percent of the Kansas is under agricultural production (source L). The official definition
of a farm according to the United States Department of Agriculture is any place from which $1000 or
more of agricultural products were produced and sold or normally would have been sold during the
census year (source L). Gross cash income, according to the USDA, is one of the best ways to
determine farm size; farms that have grown quickly and have sales of $250,000 or more are

Criticism Of Literary Criticism
I m writing this letter to show criticism analysis in text so as to employ the principles of rhetoric
which brings about the involvement of the author, content and the audience. The requirement for
rhetorical analysis will involve the plans that the author used to achieve the goal or purpose in writing.
Analysis involves the studying of something difficult in order to know its nature or the features in it.
The study helps in providing some essential information for problem solving and making the right
decisions. The requirement in rhetorical analysis is that one needs to do critical reading so as to break
down text from the main piece for analyzing(Barker, 2017).
The writing process was by inspired by the Rowling s thoughts of the intuitive approach in the plot
development and the ability to tell the narrative. Rowling s plans for the learning magic serves as a
major role in the society of the wizard world. The text credibility was based on strict rules that
governed the logics in the plot. The compelling cast of the characters was life in her thoughts since she
never failed in her imagination of the story she was meant to write. The text may not be showing
everything but there is some confidence that the author really knows everything. The need to target
specific audience is necessary for marketing purposes. A strategy for targeting audience is by
identifying the lucrative audience and finding ways to access and influence it. My strategy would be
teaching and media

Original Thirteen Colonies
The Original Thirteen Colonies The original 13 colonies were established in 1607.
Virginia/Jamestown was the first followed by, in chronological order, Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, New
Jersey, Pennsylvania and Georgia. These colonies were governed by the British until the
Revolutionary War. The thirteen colonies were divided into three groups based on geography: New
England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. The New England Colonies were New
Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The Middle Colonies were New York, New
Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The Southern Colonies were Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina,

The reason the upper class settled in the Southern colonies was because of the large and very valuable
tracts of land available for farming. It was advantageous to settle in the south because of the perfect
climate for farming and growing cash crops. In 1607, King James 1 split the Atlantic seaboard into
two distinct areas. He gave the southern half to the London Company and the northern half to the
Plymouth Company. A total of 144 ships were sent by the London Company to settle. They established
the settlement called Jamestown. It was at first not an easy adventure. The settlers primary focus was
on finding gold. While they were so consumed with finding gold, they were not producing any exports
to bring money to them and often times barely had enough food for survival. Virginia began growing
tobacco. This proved to be a very profitable crop for them, but it was also their main source of income
and they relied heavily on it. Virginia had a lot of slaves, at first mostly white indentured servants who
helped in the tobacco fields. However, later Virginia became a true slave society with slaves from
Africa. White male landowners held most of the power. These white men controlled the government
and belonged to the Church of England. In 1775, Virginia ended up becoming a royal government,
meaning the colonial government was appointed by the crown. Religious tolerance took a while to
prosper in Virginia. There was a high influx of Anglicans in this colony and they were legally required
to attend church services in the beginning. Taxes were collected to support the church. On Sundays,
both business affairs and church series were conducted (B. Wolfe). Virginia s climate consisted of hot
and humid summers and moderate winters. The hot, humid climate made conditions optimal

Quit Claim Deed Summary
Dr. Weekley, 1. Here is the latest update. According to the Buyer, someone from his closing attorney s
firm has reviewed the Quite Claim Bill of Sale. Upon review, the closing attorney s firm is stating that
the document does not meet the criteria of a Quit Claim Deed. FORTUNATELY, the closing attorney s
firm (once the property is under contract) can email a copy of Quit Claim Deed directly to your ex
wife and she can sign it front of public notary (and likely front of non related witnesses as well the
closing attorney s firm should later give further signing instruction) and she can simply overnight it
back to the closing attorney s office. That being said, this concludes what needs to be done in regards
to a Quit Claim Deed. Therefore,

Alcatraz Prison As A Prison
Alcatraz was one of the toughest prisons to escape from with nearly no chance of success. Alcatraz is
22 acres of solid rock and cliffs that was once a military base but after many years as a military base it
was transformed into a prison. This landmark is now managed by the National Park services as it is
now a big tourist attraction for many. The guards that kept Alcatraz in tact were primarily retired
soldiers and police officers. Alcatraz was opened for only 29 years and during the 29 years it was open
there were 36 attempted escapes. Alcatraz was the most impenetrable prison in america at the time.
Alcatraz had set ground rules for the prisoners and if they were to break them there were going to be
consequences to follow their actions. The prisoners were permitted to play softball ,
bandball, volleyball, and bridge. The prisoners were once able to play horseshoes but prisoners would
take the horseshoes and beat each other with them. Alcatraz was known to have a lot of notorious
prisoners that were imprisoned there. Al capone was the most notorious prisoner there but was set free
after countless court hearings.
There were a total of 36 escape attempts during Alcatraz s 29 years of being open as a prison. James
Lucas and Rufus Franklin were the first to have a violent escape attempt as they killed a guard with a
hammer. They both were caught and given life sentences for killing a guard in their escape attempt.
There was many more escapes but the one before the most

Robin Hood Cultural Influences
The story of Robin Hood, the famous archer and advocate for the poor, has been adapted into
hundreds of books, films, and television series. However, Robin Hood was not always depicted as a
beloved hero, stealing from the rich and redistributing to the poor. In fact, many early representations
of Robin Hood characterize him as a morally ambiguous, primarily self interested yeoman. Regardless
of the highly varying interpretations of the character, Robin Hood s adventures seem to resonate with
audiences through the ages and the narrative has no doubt had a profound impact on modern day
media and culture. Yet, despite this tremendous cultural influence, the roots of the legend of Robin
Hood remain largely unknown. There are three predominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This has led to a multitude of suggested identities for Robin Hood. One primary candidate for the real
Robin Hood was Robert Hobbehod, a fugitive of the early 13th century. Sir J.C. Holt, an English
medieval historian, supports this theory as the most likely origin of Robin Hood, pointing to
similarities between Hobbehod and the Robin Hood described in one of his earliest depictions, A Gest
of Robyn Hode:
He was an outlaw. He lived at a time to which several incidental features of the Gest point and in
which the main topics of the Gest were major problems for the lesser landowning class. Within four
years of the first reference to Hobbe and in areas which included the very county from which he is
known to have come, there was an active outburst of Robin Hood like activities led by men of this
class. If we are to point at all to a historical Robin, Hobbehod s claims are at present

U.s. Military Bases From Okinawa
The US should withdraw it s military bases from Okinawa
This paper explores and confirms the idea for The United States of America to withdraw all bases
from Okinawa. This resolution is affirmed because not only is the U.S. military presence unnecessary
but also it degrades the local population and environment. Thus to end such an undesirable state the
US ought to withdraw the military bases from Okinawa.
The first contention is that the US presence in Okinawa is unnecessary. The United States only has the
base in the region so that they are able to defend from a possible Chinese or North Korean
advancement. Concerns about China s influence are centered in the South and East Asian Sea. To
reduce the burden on Okinawa, the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also has some 80 anti submarine warfare or maritime patrol aircraft. Given the potential threat from
North Korea s missile arsenal, Japan has a growing interest in ballistic missile defense. The country
hosts two highly sophisticated US radars to track such weapons. It currently has four destroyers
capable of shooting down ballistic missiles along with land based PAC 3 missile interceptors. More
are planned. This year, Japan s Maritime Self Defense Force commissioned its largest vessel yet a new
helicopter carrier the JS Izumo. This could potentially embark a number of V 22 Osprey vertical lift
aircraft that can be directed into the unlikely situation of a confliction.3 Given Japan s military plans
and the location of other bases, the US Okinawan bases are completely unnecessary and will only be a
waste of not only space and resources but US military power as well.
Secondly, the island poorly handles the weight of the bases and Okinawa opposes a U.S. military
presence. Over 30,000 citizens have protested the U.S. base due to its infringement on sovereignty and
its vast damages to the local population. Certain official protests have lasted over hundreds of days.4
Clearly, such a large population determined to protest continuously for such a long time, can show that
the people of Okinawa passionately wishes for the

Comparing Milgram s Experiment On Obedience To Authority
Milgram conducted an experiment on obedience to authority. His influence came from the second
world war, where Nazi s committed evil crimes and were part of the mass murder of thousands of
Jews. Milgram wanted to know what influences people to do evil things like this, and whether it is due
to just following orders from an authority figure. Slater et al attempted to replicate Milgram s (1963)
study of obedience using a virtual environment. In this essay, I will discuss the similarities and
differences between these studies, using evidence to support my points.
Both Slater and Milgram wanted to carry out a study on obedience. To study the obedience of others,
they used similar methods, such as conducting their study in a controlled, laboratory setting which was
held in a psychology department. Due to ethical rules now being made ... Show more content on

This is the same in Slater s study, with the teacher also being able to interact with the learner. One of
the differences in interaction, in Slater s study, is that participants were also able to interact through
text message, which was shown to cause less tension in the participant when they had to administer
shocks. Even though Milgram s participants were all real people and Slater used an avatar, both
studies showed similar results when participants were able to interact and hear the learner s responses.
For example, in Milgram s study, participants showed signs of nervousness, tension and were
generally uncomfortable. When participants were hesitant to stop the task, the experimenter responded
saying it is absolutely essential that you continue . Similar to Slater s study, participants showed signs
of stress, frustration and a racing heartbeat. They would also turn to the experimenter for guidance on
what they should do. Both studies resulted in the majority of participants going all the way on the

The Modern PC Is a Model Of Hyper efficient Production And Geopolitical Sensitivities
By JASON DEAN and PUI WING TAM, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, June 9, 2005
When a customer in the U.S. clicks on Hewlett Packard Co. s Web site to purchase one of its Pavilion
zd8000 laptop computers, the order quickly arrives thousands of miles away at a factory in China run
by a less familiar name, Quanta Computer Inc.
Although virtually unknown to consumers, Quanta is the world s biggest maker of laptops. As part of
a sometimes difficult symbiosis, the Taiwanese company makes roughly one quarter of the world s
portable computers, which are then sold by brands such as H P and Dell Inc. Quanta collects
components from countries around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quanta made nearly a quarter of the roughly 49 million notebooks shipped last year a share the
company expects to grow to a third this year. Including smaller rivals like Compal Electronics Inc.,
Inventec Corp. and Wistron Corp., Taiwanese concerns now produce as much as 80% of the world s
laptops.
2
Outsourcing to low cost, high quality Taiwanese manufacturers has helped make Dell and H P the
world s top two PC companies in terms of sales. International Business Machines Corp., which
outsourced less than half of its laptop production, according to Merrill Lynch, and operated its own
factory in China, consistently lost money on its PCs. It sold the business this year to China s Lenovo
Group Ltd., which has used Taiwanese companies to make most of its notebooks in China.
But the relationship between U.S. computer firms and their third party manufacturers can be tricky. In
the struggle to retain an element of control over their suppliers, H P, Dell and others play contract
manufacturers against each other to keep prices falling and ensure no supplier gains too much
leverage.
Roger Bahalla, director of H P s laptop supply chain strategy, says H P typically works with a half
dozen third party manufacturers at any one time. It s a way to keep the business competitive, says Mr.
Bahalla, who adds that 98% of H P s notebooks are made in China. There s an optimal number of
partners to deal with. We don t want any one

The Characteristics Of The Monarch Butterfly
The monarch population has decreased up to about 22 million from last year to this year. (Rice) The
monarch butterfly is an insect that is beneficial to the ecosystem ;however, their population has
decreased over the years. Poaching and farming have caused this declination ,but there are solutions
we can work with that may help the population increase once again. The monarch butterfly is known
by scientists as Danaus plexippus, which in Greek literally means sleepy transformation. The name
evokes the species ability to hibernate and metamorphize.(Schafer) Monarch butterflies are indicator
species just like they are pollinators as well ,and their characteristics all serve different purposes to
help them. For instance, their colorful wings consist of veins and muscles. These features help blood
circulate through their tiny bodies and allow them to be able to do move. Their characteristics tell
differences in their gender as well by their patterns. In fact, males have black dots on their wings ,and
females are a little smaller in size. Additionally, they live up to about two to six weeks as they grow
from a caterpillar to becoming an adult monarch butterfly. Their life cycle is made up of four stages:
egg, the larvae, the pupa, and the adult butterfly. It lasts about 28 to 38 days to be able to complete the
process. Their winter migration usually takes place in Mexico or Southern California, where it is
warm ,and they can hibernate in

Shrek s Impact On Society And Symbolic Interactionism
As Shrek was judged, we are as humans judged today. This is true for anything we do. Whether
politics, television, or social media, it still defines how society and the individual will behave. See
through everything society does, no matter the period of time, social interaction was navigated
through words, and symbols. Which over time developed an emotional meaning, which are projected
thru action or behaviour today. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of Symbolic
Interactionism is a theory that human interaction and communication is facilitated by words, gestures,
and other symbols that have acquired conventionalized meanings , with this definition one can assume
that the interactionist perspective is based around communication that is made easier, by things like
words, gestures and symbols, so that they can gain the artistic meaning that will eventually make an
effect ( symbolic interactionism ). Those who study the interactionist perspective often take every day
social conversation and they use that to explain society, instead of taking the grand scheme of
everything in its entirety and using that to explain a large societal area in its entirety. In the movie
Shrek, the symbolism of each interaction has a deeper meaning somewhere down the road. For
instance, Shrek losing his swamp leads to him going to Lord Farquaad. This in turn meeting Donkey
and other fairy tale creatures, and then going to save Fiona. This adventure, down the road of course,
leads to him getting a wife and friends.
When Shrek first meet the fairy tale creatures, he was about to start his quest to talk to the great lord
Farquaad. The fairy tale creatures, who were all imprisoned and banished to Shrek s swamp by lord
Farquaad from his kingdom, all came to Shrek s swamp. This led to many friendships being formed,
intricate and even direct relationships were formed. The fairy tale creatures who came to Shrek s
swamp in the first place were ginger bread man named Gingy, the big bad wolf , named Wolfie,
Pinocchio, 3 blind mice and 3 little pigs. While Shrek, Gingy and Pinocchio are closer in relationship
with a more intricate relationship, the rest of the gang mentioned were not that close to Shrek. The

Keerti s Heavy Influence In Japan
In Japan, many politicians and important people of power are families who have heavy influence in
Japan s economy through companies for products, television, business, and the like. Through this
financial power in advertisements and influence over what can be placed and expressed in media,
there is power over what is considered and thought about within the country. Keerti explains that this
aspect of Japanese life needs to be revised in order to achieve democracy so that all voices are heard
equally and no voices are left or censored out. Keerti also expresses how political engagement and
civics classes are mandatory within secondary school and college in order to prepare students to
become informed citizens. She says there is room for corruption ... Show more content on

One common aspect across the three personalities is the degradation of the power of the rule by the
elite. All three agree that there is no good democracy that comes from a select group. Not only
because it is the elite in Japan, but it is those in power who are the problem. In Japan, a majority of the
House of Chancellors are passed down through bloodline or company relation. We cannot be certain
that those individuals are trained and knowledgeable in the problems in the political view. However,
this also brings up the concern of public awareness of political issues. Today, according to Ikeda,
Kohno, and Yamada s studies on citizen understanding political concepts between 1960 1990, many
Japanese citizens feel that they had no say in political decision making and that they were not well
educated in the policies and issues being discussed. As we discussed in class, this is a common
problem amongst democracy as a whole, not having a well educated, well informed general public
voting. Finally, the aspect of religious liberty brought within the political spectrum. Although this
contradicts John Locke s beliefs of keeping the politic and religious spheres separate, this unity of
religion ties together an ideal form of democracy for all three individuals. It is through applying
Buddhist values into Japanese government that would provide a sense of patriotism through

Wachowiak Observation Report
On Tuesday, January 30th, Matt Wachowiak from Yale University gave a seminar on functional
imaging of the olfactory bulb in mice. He uses a fluorescent calcium sensitive dye to label the receptor
neurons in the nose; the dye is then transported to the terminals of those neurons in the olfactory bulb.
All of the receptor neurons that express receptors for a certain type of odor molecule send their axons
to the same localized structure within the olfactory bulb, called a glomerulus. By removing the skin
and bone above the olfactory bulb, he can use a sensitive camera to record real time changes in
fluorescence in particular glomeruli that correspond to activation of different receptor neuron types in
response to different odors. Dr. Wachowiak began these studies in turtles, ... Show more content on

Although an individual glomerulus may be activated by several odors, the relative levels of activation
of several glomeruli differ between odorants. As the concentration of the odorant increases, more
glomeruli are recruited to respond; however, the relative pattern of activation is usually maintained for
each odorant. Dr. Wachowiak also showed that there is a topographical map in the olfactory bulb such
that odorants belonging to a certain class of molecules tend to activate glomeruli in the same area of
the bulb, and this map is consistent across animals. Thus, it is possible to study the response to many
odor molecules in a large number of animals and collapse the data across subjects to obtain more
statistical power. In conclusion, this is an interesting technique that can be used to understand the
detailed mechanisms of first order olfactory perception in live animals. Dr. Wachowiak hopes to
continue this research by conducting psychophysical experiments to determine how well the mice
discriminate between odors, using genetically encoded probes of neural activity to selectively image
certain populations of glomeruli, and studying further steps of processing within the

Letter To Romans
The doctrine of Justification presents a myriad of problems when taken out of the context of Scripture.
Therefore, in this paper, I will argue for a reformed perspective on Justification by way of Biblical
expostion. Needless to say, there has been countless of capable theologians who have treated the
doctrine of Justification through the past two thousand years. However, it is the apostle Paul, who,
inevitably, treats the doctrine of Justification with precision. Therefore, it seems logical to appeal to
the apostle, in order to fully understand the weight of what it means to be justified and made righteous
before a Holy God. First, we will address what some people call Paul s systematic theology in his
letter to the Romans. The book of Romans is perhaps the most precise exposition of the human
condition and the act of God whereby humanity is redeemed. Next, we will treat the letter to the
Galatians, where the apostle deals with the problem of the Law and the legal standing of the Believer.
Finally, the letter to the Philippians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul makes it very clear that salvation and the gospel is the whole purpose of his letter to the Romans.
Therefore, it is logical to begin with describing in depth, why it is that we, humans, are in such a dire
need for salvation. The apostle Paul asserts that all humanity is guilty and under God s wrath, because
we have rejected God as God and ceased to obey God s perfect commands. It is surprising that Paul
begins his letter with a positive notion that he was sent to preach the gospel (good news) of salvation
and suddenly reverts to exposing the human condition, and the negative notion that we are all under
God s wrath. Nevertheless, Paul is clearly teaching that only by fully understanding the bad news can
we appreciate the good

What is identity? Search it up and you will find being who or what a person or thing is, is called
identity. The meaning of identity cannot be put into words. You have to go on a journey to find out
who you are, if you want to define identity. How does one live life to the full if they don t know who
they are? Everybody is different and everybody has different aspects of their identity that make them
who they are. I will explain how one aspect of my identity has shaped my life experience, and the way
I see the world.
One important aspect of my identity is my family. Without my family, I wouldn t be the person I am
today. My parents gave me a secure upbringing. They never let me do anything that the other kids
were doing. They taught me what is right and wrong. My parents have taught me how to pick my
friends and have good relationships with everybody. I have also learned from my family to help others
and give charity. Both my older sister and my parents constantly teach me and remind me about
manners and how to talk and act in front of elders. The most important thing that I have learned from
my parents so far is that everybody is different from me and I am different from everybody. This has
drastically helped me in my life especially because these years of my life will make me who I am later

Cellular Reproduction
Cellular Reproduction is the process by which all living things produce new organisms similar or
identical to themselves. This is essential in that if a species were not able to reproduce, that species
would quickly become extinct. Always, reproduction consists of a basic pattern: the conversion by a
parent organism of raw materials into offspring or cells that will later develop into offspring.
(Encarta, 2) In almost all animal organisms, reproduction occurs during or after the period of
maximum growth. (Fichter, 16). But in
Plants, which continue to grow through out their lifetime, therefore making the process more complex.
Plants reproduction is usually caused by a stimulant, mostly environmental or ... Show more content

Spindle fibers are barely visible. This phase takes fifty to sixty percent of the time of mitosis. (Biggs,
214) During metaphase, the short second phase of mitosis, the sister chromatids line up along the
equator of the cell. Each sister chromatid has its own spindle fiber. Next comes the third phase of
mitosis, Anaphase, in which the centromeres break in half, causing each of the daughter chromatids to
start to be pulled to different poles of the cell by means of spindle fibers. The spindle fibers pull the
daughter chromatids until they reach the poles of the cell. Finally, the last phase of mitosis called
Telophase in which the daughter chromatids are fully pulled toward the poles and the nuclear envelope
begins to reappear, the cell also begins to cleave, usually in the spot where the chromatids lined up in
metaphase. After mitosis is complete, cytokinesis occurs, cytokinesis is the process in which a cell s
cytoplasm is split into two equal parts, therefore causing the mother cell to split into two daughter
cells. In plants, however, cytokinesis is replaced by the placing of a cell plate on the metaphase
equator
Mitosis is a process that guarantees better cellular work.
The two new daughter cells will carry out the same functions and cellular processes as the parent,
ensuring that the two cells will carry out twice as much as the original cell. Mitosis often occurs in
multicellular animals and plants, not making the organism

How Is Napoleon Bonaparte A Hero
Napoleon Bonaparte was the French leader in the late 1700s. He is known as an intelligent and clever
military leader. He went to military school at the age of nine, and finished school at the age of 16
eventually becoming a lieutenant in the artillery. Napoleon Bonaparte had many successes and
failures, however his failures overpowered his successes which makes him a tyrant. While leading he
went into many wars and lost many soldiers. By the end many people were not on his side and many
did not believe in what he was doing as the leader of France, therefore making him a villain for
France. Napoleon Bonaparte had many weaknesses as a leader which caused him to have many
defeats. The Directory selected Napoleon to lead the French army in 1796 and this is what got him
started leading France and the people. To defend French trade Napoleon took his army to Europe and
the British army trapped Napoleon and his army. Napoleon manipulated the people by keeping what
had happened out of the news so that he could be known as a great hero to the French people. If he did
not cover up that he was defeated and was trapped the French people might have realized that he
failed at his duty and was not the best for leader for the army. ... Show more content on

This code had its strengths and weaknesses. It got rid of many injustices which was good for the
country. Its weaknesses was that it got rid of Individual rights which the people just fought for in the
revolutionary war. Freedom of the press and speech was restricted under the code. The code also made
slavery legal again in the French Colonies of the Caribbean. This code might have fixed the injustices
of the recent governments but it also brought slavery back which is a big controversial subject.

Essay Compare And Contrast Jamestown And John Smith
Two men came to America with a organization of people on a ship to set up their own colony. Both of
them had a goal and a reason for coming to the new world. When both of them came to set up a
colony they had high hopes. They soon realized it would be a struggle to survive and had to endure a
lot when they decided to come to the new world. They were not exactly the same though and had
some differences and came to the new world for contrasting reasons. Jamestown was settled by the
Virginia Company and Captain John Smith, who was the leader and was one of the reasons why
Jamestown was able to endure and withstand in such difficult circumstances. In Smith s narrative but
nothing so difficult as to establish a commonwealth so far remote from men and means, and where
men s minds are so untoward as neither do well themselves, nor suffer others (Smith).People were
being greedy and didn t want to help each other which was a big problem in Jamestown and made it
difficult to be able to survive.Another concept in his account of what happens on his journey he talks

The Great Strategists Of The 19th Century
War history has had its heroes, its thinkers and strategists who by means of their abilities moved
martial arts ahead and have influenced the course of history. One of the greatest strategists of the 19th
century was Helmut von Moltke, a German Field Marshal. Moltke was the Chief of General staff of
the Prussian Army for three decades (1857 1887) and is considered the creator of modern methods of
warfare.
Moltke s conceptual, organizational, and doctrinal changes in the Prussian Army created a military
machine , which none of the European military powers could compete with. Victories over Denmark
in 1864, Austria in1866 and France in 1871 led to the unification of Germany and were examples of
the capabilities of this military thinker. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He recognized that often decisive role that moral factors played in victory. Although it may seem that
the French Revolution and industrialism influenced the adaptation of the Prussian army automatically,
as Moltke s influence is quite evident. Moltke s concept of war involved combining rapid
mobilization, transportation, deployment, movement, and combat into one continuous sequence,
making every effort to bring superior numbers to bear in the final decisive battle therefore, the key
task of Moltke s reform was to create, from the Prussian army, an efficient, modern way warring
fighting force. Primarily his effort was focused on the restructuring of the General Staff and the
officers training. Moltke oversaw further improvements in Prussia s military recruitment and
education systems once he became Chief of Staff. These resulted in a doubling of the size of the field
and the army and further strengthening of its reserve consequently capability . The old divisions of the
Great General Staff were replaced by three departments, which recalled the Theatres of War . This
restructuring of the General Staff formed the basic framework of the whole Institution. Moltke
developed the method of general directives into guiding principles . As a new Chief of General Staff,
he required initiative and independence from his officers. His subordinates were trained to

Describe the topic. What is the intended target of the intervention and the goal?
Bilingual Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (BCIRC) is the intervention program
designed to help Spanish speaking English Language Learners(ELL) students successfully read in
Spanish and make a successful transition to English reading. The target of the intervention was the
Spanish dominant ELL students who attended seven elementary schools which had the highest rates of
poverty and the lowest levels of student achievement in El Paso, Texas. The 222 Spanish speaking
ELL students in the second (n = 120) and third (n = 102) grades initially participated in the study and

English language development: The study authors did not find any statistically significant differences
in the mean language development test scores between the BCIRC students and the comparison group
students both in the study findings and the subgroup findings. However, the WWC reported that the
intervention had potentially positive effects on English language development reading achievement
because the study showed the substantively important positive effect with the large effect sizes (.29 in
the study finding /.38, .22, .53 in the subgroup findings), and it also did not show a statistically
significant or substantively important negative effect. However, the WWC did confirm the statistically
significant positive effects of this finding because only one study was reviewed.
The WWC also provided the Improvement index for reading achievement (+23 percentile points) and
English language development (+11 percentile points) based on the effect size. Each improvement
index represents the positive difference between the percentile rank of the

Sociopathy And Psychopathy Essay
Mental disorders are dreadful things that can attack without warning. While some are aware of the
disorders that affect them, others are not, and they can therefore be affected by their disorders to the
point of no return. Sociopathy and psychopathy, which can stem from either environmental factors or
brain abnormalities, are examples of this. While there are misconceptions about the true identities of
these disorders and the differences between them, this paper will attempt to inform the readers of their
distinctions, and just where in the world they are present. This paper will also discuss how to confront
those who are affected, and the factors that are involved in doing so. To first understand the basic
concepts involved with identifying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With different media such as books, articles, and databases, this paper s primary goal is to grab one s
attention and inform one on issues relating to personality, mental illness, and conditions such as
sociopathy and psychopathy. As mental disorders become more and more prevalent within the
American population today, it is only necessary to inform oneself on the varying topics being
discussed. To know how the mind works is merely one step into the mystery that is the human body,
and it would be neglectful to approach such a topic without being properly prepared. Sociopathy and
psychopathy are harming conditions, but as previously portrayed, things are much more complex than
they seem. With the presence of new treatments for thousands of conditions increasing by the day, it is
only a matter of time before the human race will be ever closer to understanding others as well as they

The Undeniable Occurrence Of Modern Day Miracles
The Undeniable Occurrence of Modern Day Miracles
Nowadays, people in general tend to use the word miracle when referring to a surprising event, such
as the Patriots coming back from a 25 point deficit to win Super Bowl LI, or the American hockey
team winning at the 1980 hockey Olympics, dubbed a miracle on ice . However, these so called
miracles do not portray the actual meaning of the word, which is defined as an effect or extraordinary
event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers therefore is ascribed to
be a work of God. Although there has been some skepticism among people, Christians included, as to
the existence of miracles, this paper will argue that true miracles do occur. Furthermore, ... Show more

and her family, who were blessed with nothing short of a miracle. When Annabel was four she
suffered from extreme abdominal pain, then at five her bowel had become completely obstructed.
Eventually after months of reaching out, Annabel s mother was able to find a doctor able to diagnose
her, however the diagnosis was much worse than the family had anticipated. Annabel was diagnosed
with two life threatening disorders, both of which were incurable (Beam 2015). Two years she still
suffered from both painful disorders, with no improvement. This same year what seemed to be a tragic
accident, resulted in the impossible, Annabel was cured (Beam 2015). While playing outside with her
sister, Annabel sat on a large tree branch, this branch snapped, causing her to plummet and land head
first in a hollow tree 30 feet below. After nearly six hours of being trapped, she was unconscious, and
bruised, Annabel had finally been rescued, and was on the way to the hospital. It was at the hospital
where Annabel had woken up without abdominal pain, her stomach was not longer distended, and she
was able to now eat regular food after months

Transformational Leadership In The Forgotten
Transformational leadership is an individual with the ability to change an organizational culture by
creating a new vision for the organization and obtaining the support necessary for the change of the
organization (Shafritz et al, 2012, p 368). In the novel The Forgotten by David Baldacci, the role of
both David Puller and General Julie Carson were examples of exceptional leadership as well as team
players. In the novel The Forgotten, it has not been established that either party would not be able to
change a culture or create a new vision, but that was not their goal in the story. Transformational
leaderships traits are not part of the leadership style of Puller and Carson, it seems that as part of their
employment within the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a leader in his capacity, the Sheriff was able to make changes and mold the organization in the
manner that fit with his vision for the organization. A transformational leader should be able to
provide a vision to change and organization or in this case the community and be able to do so
successfully. Transactional theories of leaders must be able to successfully express and implement
visions that will enable growth to organizations and individuals. Knowledge of the structures of the
structures and processes f local government is necessary for citizens and professionals to choose
wisely among the ways they may govern their communities, but it is not sufficient (Box, 2014, p 134).
As a community, it is our responsibility to be aware of the changes going on and being a part of
decision making within the government that they are able to participate in. Local control means that
people in communities decide their futures relatively independently, putting outside pressures in
perspective and fighting against closed or elitist political systems (Box, 2014, p 135). The

Sir Robert Peel was british, He is regarded as the father of the modern British police and as one of the
founders of the modern Conservative Party. The Peelian principles summarise the ideas that Sir Robert
Peel developed to define an ethical police force. There were nine principles: prevent crime disorder,
public approval, willing co operation, diminishing use of physical force, public favor, only necessary
force, police are the public, do not usurp authority, and absence of crime. In my opinion all these
principles are important but the two i m going to talk about are the seventh and eighth principle:

Diversity Is Considered A Defining Strength For The Workforce
Diversity is considered a defining strength for the workforce and an essential element in
accomplishing the various missions that reflects the nations or community that we serve. Ensuring a
diverse and inclusive workforce enables the department or agency to be more responsive to the public
it serves and offers every individual an equal chance to attain his or her professional goals. A diverse
workforce contributes fresh ideas and offers unique perspective which is vital in achieving the desired
success. Diversity is not limited to race, gender, or ethnicity. A diverse group includes people of
different religions, sexual orientation, ages, work experience, cultures, physical abilities, military
experience, and educational background (Security, 2015). Although those differences are a source of
benefits, they can also be very hard in the work settings and there are two reasons behind that. First,
the difficulty to deal with all the different kinds of people without having a misunderstanding that
arise between the supervisor and the employees. Second, problems that arise must be mediated or
arbitrated by the supervisor. It can be hard for supervisors to recognize the needs of individuals from
other backgrounds and to know how to persuade those individuals to do well. Even if that does not
happen, they may simply misunderstand one another and those misunderstandings may lead to
conflict. In these ways, a diverse workplace can lead to difficulties for supervisors.

There Will Come Soft Rain Technology Essay
In today s growing society, technology has brought many reforms to the way we operate on a daily
basis. Most tend to consider the positive effects of technology, and how much it has benefited us both
socially and in the workplace. However, there is a form of duality that comes with these
developments; Despite the seemingly positive outcomes associated with the benefits of technology,
there is also a lack of responsibility on our part that results. Hence, over time it has been increasingly
difficult to draw the line between what is reasonable and what it simply too much when it comes to
using technology. In Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rains and The Veldt two short stories

One of the many magnificent features of the house is the automated kitchen. This kitchen pampered
the family by preparing each meal, washing the dishes, and serving them all at the dinner table, all
responsibilities you would expect of a typical household. Early in the text, Bradbury comprehensively
describes the kitchen s seemingly perfect nature, In the kitchen the breakfast stove gave a hissing sigh
and ejected from its warm interior eight pieces of perfectly browned toast, eggs sunnyside up, sixteen
slices of bacon, two coffees, and two cold glasses of milk (There Will Come Soft Rains 1). The
precision and accuracy of the breakfast prepared was impeccable: the milk cold, eggs and toast
prepared to perfection, and exactly sixteen slices of bacon to feed a family. With such an ideal, why
would anyone need or want to cook breakfast, when their effort could easily be replaced? Instead of
relying on themselves, one would instead choose to rely on this automated kitchen. The more someone
ceases to rely on themselves, the less responsible they ultimately become. Therefore, Bradbury s brief,
yet powerful, use of imagery supports the idea that it in such a technologically advanced environment,
taking on basic responsibilities is

The Influence of Self-Assessed Body Image on Confidence...
Research in psychology today seems to be drawn towards particular fields of interest especially when
it comes to understanding human behavior. One of the most common research topics for social
psychology is body image and the perceptions that are related to age groups, genders, and ethnicities.
Young people today are pressured by society to make physical appearance a dominant factor in their
everyday lives, and the pressure is found not only through media influence but friends and family as
well (Pavica, 2010). These pressures can affect many different aspects of a person s life and
significantly influence their actions. The aspects affected by body image can include popularity among
peers, social comfort, and the attitudes an individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of this study is to observe how the physical state perceived by the individual affects the
psychological and emotional states that they incorporate into their everyday lives. From the
participants evaluation a greater focus will be on the relations of self assessment to an individual s
confidence and self esteem level. The link between these aspects can possibly shed light on how
decisions and lives are altered by self interpreted appearance, specifically body image. In addition,
there is evidence which supports the theory that body image dissatisfaction affects both genders. By
creating and enhancing a positive body image, a person greatly increases their self esteem
(Ratanasiripong Burkey, 2011).
A study was conducted that asked college aged men to rate their body image either positively or
negatively, and found that self perceptions of those overweight were indistinguishable from a similar
female sample (Drewnowski Yee, 1987). The confidence we aim to study will be an individual s
personal belief in their ability to interact with others, resulting from their positive or negative body
perceptions. At this point, it is important to give the operational definitions of all three variables. Body
image within the discussion can be conceptualized

Abstract
Background: Low back pain patients with associated leg pain symptoms generally have a poorer
prognostic outcome compared to those with localised low back pain. Therefore, this study will
investigate the difference in clinical outcomes associated with low back pain patients with and without
self reported leg pain symptoms. This study will also address if additional co factors such as age, sex,
and occupation have an effect on the severity of these clinical outcomes. The clinical outcomes which
will be considered are pain rating, interference with active daily living (ADL) rating, anxiety rating,
depression rating and control of pain rating.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study compares adult low back pain patients with localised pain (n
= 58) to low back pain patients with self reported leg pain symptoms (n = 54) who presented for
chiropractic treatment. Patients completed the WIOC patient outcomes questionnaire as baseline
which consisted of the Bournemouth Questionnaire, recording responses from an 11 point numerical
scale (NRS). Demographic information was also collected. Differences between the two groups using
the data collected from this questionnaire were calculated using the Mann Whitney U test. Differences
between age and sex were also calculated using the test used.

  • 2. Family Farming as Opposed to the Industrial Side of... The federal government should support the family farms of today rather than the industrial side of agriculture. In 1930 there was around seven million farms in the United States, now there is about two million. Advocates for farming and agriculture are worried about losing farms and farmland (source E). The total number of farms has fallen dramatically since the 1930s, but the number of larger farms has grown. Today small farms make up 92 percent of all U.S. farms and the other eight percent are large and very large family farms and nonfamily farms (source L). Even with the loss of many farms and farmers, the number of acres of farmland remains constant. The size of farms has increased, but not all farms are the same size (source E). The technology of today has made it possible to farm more land with fewer producers (source A). There is 915 million acres in farmland in the United States and the average farm size is 434 acres. In Kansas there are around 65,500 farms with 707 acres in average. Eighty eight percent of the Kansas is under agricultural production (source L). The official definition of a farm according to the United States Department of Agriculture is any place from which $1000 or more of agricultural products were produced and sold or normally would have been sold during the census year (source L). Gross cash income, according to the USDA, is one of the best ways to determine farm size; farms that have grown quickly and have sales of $250,000 or more are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Criticism Of Literary Criticism I m writing this letter to show criticism analysis in text so as to employ the principles of rhetoric which brings about the involvement of the author, content and the audience. The requirement for rhetorical analysis will involve the plans that the author used to achieve the goal or purpose in writing. Analysis involves the studying of something difficult in order to know its nature or the features in it. The study helps in providing some essential information for problem solving and making the right decisions. The requirement in rhetorical analysis is that one needs to do critical reading so as to break down text from the main piece for analyzing(Barker, 2017). The writing process was by inspired by the Rowling s thoughts of the intuitive approach in the plot development and the ability to tell the narrative. Rowling s plans for the learning magic serves as a major role in the society of the wizard world. The text credibility was based on strict rules that governed the logics in the plot. The compelling cast of the characters was life in her thoughts since she never failed in her imagination of the story she was meant to write. The text may not be showing everything but there is some confidence that the author really knows everything. The need to target specific audience is necessary for marketing purposes. A strategy for targeting audience is by identifying the lucrative audience and finding ways to access and influence it. My strategy would be teaching and media ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Original Thirteen Colonies The Original Thirteen Colonies The original 13 colonies were established in 1607. Virginia/Jamestown was the first followed by, in chronological order, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Georgia. These colonies were governed by the British until the Revolutionary War. The thirteen colonies were divided into three groups based on geography: New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. The New England Colonies were New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The Middle Colonies were New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The Southern Colonies were Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason the upper class settled in the Southern colonies was because of the large and very valuable tracts of land available for farming. It was advantageous to settle in the south because of the perfect climate for farming and growing cash crops. In 1607, King James 1 split the Atlantic seaboard into two distinct areas. He gave the southern half to the London Company and the northern half to the Plymouth Company. A total of 144 ships were sent by the London Company to settle. They established the settlement called Jamestown. It was at first not an easy adventure. The settlers primary focus was on finding gold. While they were so consumed with finding gold, they were not producing any exports to bring money to them and often times barely had enough food for survival. Virginia began growing tobacco. This proved to be a very profitable crop for them, but it was also their main source of income and they relied heavily on it. Virginia had a lot of slaves, at first mostly white indentured servants who helped in the tobacco fields. However, later Virginia became a true slave society with slaves from Africa. White male landowners held most of the power. These white men controlled the government and belonged to the Church of England. In 1775, Virginia ended up becoming a royal government, meaning the colonial government was appointed by the crown. Religious tolerance took a while to prosper in Virginia. There was a high influx of Anglicans in this colony and they were legally required to attend church services in the beginning. Taxes were collected to support the church. On Sundays, both business affairs and church series were conducted (B. Wolfe). Virginia s climate consisted of hot and humid summers and moderate winters. • 5. Quit Claim Deed Summary Dr. Weekley, 1. Here is the latest update. According to the Buyer, someone from his closing attorney s firm has reviewed the Quite Claim Bill of Sale. Upon review, the closing attorney s firm is stating that the document does not meet the criteria of a Quit Claim Deed. FORTUNATELY, the closing attorney s firm (once the property is under contract) can email a copy of Quit Claim Deed directly to your ex wife and she can sign it front of public notary (and likely front of non related witnesses as well the closing attorney s firm should later give further signing instruction) and she can simply overnight it back to the closing attorney s office. • 6. Alcatraz Prison As A Prison Alcatraz was one of the toughest prisons to escape from with nearly no chance of success. Alcatraz is 22 acres of solid rock and cliffs that was once a military base but after many years as a military base it was transformed into a prison. This landmark is now managed by the National Park services as it is now a big tourist attraction for many. The guards that kept Alcatraz in tact were primarily retired soldiers and police officers. Alcatraz was opened for only 29 years and during the 29 years it was open there were 36 attempted escapes. Alcatraz was the most impenetrable prison in america at the time. Alcatraz had set ground rules for the prisoners and if they were to break them there were going to be consequences to follow their actions. The prisoners were permitted to play softball , bandball, volleyball, and bridge. The prisoners were once able to play horseshoes but prisoners would take the horseshoes and beat each other with them. Alcatraz was known to have a lot of notorious prisoners that were imprisoned there. Al capone was the most notorious prisoner there but was set free after countless court hearings. There were a total of 36 escape attempts during Alcatraz s 29 years of being open as a prison. • 8. Robin Hood Cultural Influences The story of Robin Hood, the famous archer and advocate for the poor, has been adapted into hundreds of books, films, and television series. However, Robin Hood was not always depicted as a beloved hero, stealing from the rich and redistributing to the poor. In fact, many early representations of Robin Hood characterize him as a morally ambiguous, primarily self interested yeoman. Regardless of the highly varying interpretations of the character, Robin Hood s adventures seem to resonate with audiences through the ages and the narrative has no doubt had a profound impact on modern day media and culture. Yet, despite this tremendous cultural influence, the roots of the legend of Robin Hood remain largely unknown. There are three predominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has led to a multitude of suggested identities for Robin Hood. One primary candidate for the real Robin Hood was Robert Hobbehod, a fugitive of the early 13th century. Sir J.C. Holt, an English medieval historian, supports this theory as the most likely origin of Robin Hood, pointing to similarities between Hobbehod and the Robin Hood described in one of his earliest depictions, A Gest of Robyn Hode: He was an outlaw. He lived at a time to which several incidental features of the Gest point and in which the main topics of the Gest were major problems for the lesser landowning class. Within four years of the first reference to Hobbe and in areas which included the very county from which he is known to have come, there was an active outburst of Robin Hood like activities led by men of this class. • 10. U.s. Military Bases From Okinawa The US should withdraw it s military bases from Okinawa This paper explores and confirms the idea for The United States of America to withdraw all bases from Okinawa. This resolution is affirmed because not only is the U.S. military presence unnecessary but also it degrades the local population and environment. Thus to end such an undesirable state the US ought to withdraw the military bases from Okinawa. The first contention is that the US presence in Okinawa is unnecessary. The United States only has the base in the region so that they are able to defend from a possible Chinese or North Korean advancement. Concerns about China s influence are centered in the South and East Asian Sea. To reduce the burden on Okinawa, the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also has some 80 anti submarine warfare or maritime patrol aircraft. Given the potential threat from North Korea s missile arsenal, Japan has a growing interest in ballistic missile defense. The country hosts two highly sophisticated US radars to track such weapons. It currently has four destroyers capable of shooting down ballistic missiles along with land based PAC 3 missile interceptors. More are planned. This year, Japan s Maritime Self Defense Force commissioned its largest vessel yet a new helicopter carrier the JS Izumo. This could potentially embark a number of V 22 Osprey vertical lift aircraft that can be directed into the unlikely situation of a confliction.3 Given Japan s military plans and the location of other bases, the US Okinawan bases are completely unnecessary and will only be a waste of not only space and resources but US military power as well. Secondly, the island poorly handles the weight of the bases and Okinawa opposes a U.S. military presence. Over 30,000 citizens have protested the U.S. base due to its infringement on sovereignty and its vast damages to the local population. Certain official protests have lasted over hundreds of days.4 Clearly, such a large population determined to protest continuously for such a long time, can show that the people of Okinawa passionately wishes for the ... • 11. Comparing Milgram s Experiment On Obedience To Authority Milgram conducted an experiment on obedience to authority. His influence came from the second world war, where Nazi s committed evil crimes and were part of the mass murder of thousands of Jews. Milgram wanted to know what influences people to do evil things like this, and whether it is due to just following orders from an authority figure. Slater et al attempted to replicate Milgram s (1963) study of obedience using a virtual environment. In this essay, I will discuss the similarities and differences between these studies, using evidence to support my points. Both Slater and Milgram wanted to carry out a study on obedience. To study the obedience of others, they used similar methods, such as conducting their study in a controlled, laboratory setting which was held in a psychology department. Even though Milgram s participants were all real people and Slater used an avatar, both studies showed similar results when participants were able to interact and hear the learner s responses. For example, in Milgram s study, participants showed signs of nervousness, tension and were generally uncomfortable. When participants were hesitant to stop the task, the experimenter responded saying it is absolutely essential that you continue . Similar to Slater s study, participants showed signs of stress, frustration and a racing heartbeat. They would also turn to the experimenter for guidance on what they should do. The Laptop Trail The Laptop Trail The Modern PC Is a Model Of Hyper efficient Production And Geopolitical Sensitivities By JASON DEAN and PUI WING TAM, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, June 9, 2005 When a customer in the U.S. clicks on Hewlett Packard Co. s Web site to purchase one of its Pavilion zd8000 laptop computers, the order quickly arrives thousands of miles away at a factory in China run by a less familiar name, Quanta Computer Inc. Although virtually unknown to consumers, Quanta is the world s biggest maker of laptops. Quanta made nearly a quarter of the roughly 49 million notebooks shipped last year a share the company expects to grow to a third this year. Including smaller rivals like Compal Electronics Inc., Inventec Corp. and Wistron Corp., Taiwanese concerns now produce as much as 80% of the world s laptops. 2 Outsourcing to low cost, high quality Taiwanese manufacturers has helped make Dell and H P the world s top two PC companies in terms of sales. International Business Machines Corp., which outsourced less than half of its laptop production, according to Merrill Lynch, and operated its own factory in China, consistently lost money on its PCs. It sold the business this year to China s Lenovo Group Ltd., which has used Taiwanese companies to make most of its notebooks in China. But the relationship between U.S. computer firms and their third party manufacturers can be tricky. In the struggle to retain an element of control over their suppliers, H P, Dell and others play contract manufacturers against each other to keep prices falling and ensure no supplier gains too much leverage. (Rice) The monarch butterfly is an insect that is beneficial to the ecosystem ;however, their population has decreased over the years. Poaching and farming have caused this declination ,but there are solutions we can work with that may help the population increase once again. The monarch butterfly is known by scientists as Danaus plexippus, which in Greek literally means sleepy transformation. The name evokes the species ability to hibernate and metamorphize.(Schafer) Monarch butterflies are indicator species just like they are pollinators as well ,and their characteristics all serve different purposes to help them. For instance, their colorful wings consist of veins and muscles. These features help blood circulate through their tiny bodies and allow them to be able to do move. Their characteristics tell differences in their gender as well by their patterns. In fact, males have black dots on their wings ,and females are a little smaller in size. Additionally, they live up to about two to six weeks as they grow from a caterpillar to becoming an adult monarch butterfly. Their life cycle is made up of four stages: egg, the larvae, the pupa, and the adult butterfly. It lasts about 28 to 38 days to be able to complete the process. • 14. Shrek s Impact On Society And Symbolic Interactionism As Shrek was judged, we are as humans judged today. This is true for anything we do. Whether politics, television, or social media, it still defines how society and the individual will behave. See through everything society does, no matter the period of time, social interaction was navigated through words, and symbols. Which over time developed an emotional meaning, which are projected thru action or behaviour today. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of Symbolic Interactionism is a theory that human interaction and communication is facilitated by words, gestures, and other symbols that have acquired conventionalized meanings , with this definition one can assume that the interactionist perspective is based around communication that is made easier, by things like words, gestures and symbols, so that they can gain the artistic meaning that will eventually make an effect ( symbolic interactionism ). Those who study the interactionist perspective often take every day social conversation and they use that to explain society, instead of taking the grand scheme of everything in its entirety and using that to explain a large societal area in its entirety. In the movie Shrek, the symbolism of each interaction has a deeper meaning somewhere down the road. For instance, Shrek losing his swamp leads to him going to Lord Farquaad. This in turn meeting Donkey and other fairy tale creatures, and then going to save Fiona. This adventure, down the road of course, leads to him getting a wife and friends. When Shrek first meet the fairy tale creatures, he was about to start his quest to talk to the great lord Farquaad. The fairy tale creatures, who were all imprisoned and banished to Shrek s swamp by lord Farquaad from his kingdom, all came to Shrek s swamp. This led to many friendships being formed, intricate and even direct relationships were formed. The fairy tale creatures who came to Shrek s swamp in the first place were ginger bread man named Gingy, the big bad wolf , named Wolfie, Pinocchio, 3 blind mice and 3 little pigs. While Shrek, Gingy and Pinocchio are closer in relationship with a more intricate relationship, the rest of the gang mentioned were not that close to Shrek. The symbols behinds all their ... Keerti explains that this aspect of Japanese life needs to be revised in order to achieve democracy so that all voices are heard equally and no voices are left or censored out. All three agree that there is no good democracy that comes from a select group. Not only because it is the elite in Japan, but it is those in power who are the problem. In Japan, a majority of the House of Chancellors are passed down through bloodline or company relation. We cannot be certain that those individuals are trained and knowledgeable in the problems in the political view. However, this also brings up the concern of public awareness of political issues. Today, according to Ikeda, Kohno, and Yamada s studies on citizen understanding political concepts between 1960 1990, many Japanese citizens feel that they had no say in political decision making and that they were not well educated in the policies and issues being discussed. As we discussed in class, this is a common problem amongst democracy as a whole, not having a well educated, well informed general public voting. Finally, the aspect of religious liberty brought within the political spectrum. • 16. Wachowiak Observation Report On Tuesday, January 30th, Matt Wachowiak from Yale University gave a seminar on functional imaging of the olfactory bulb in mice. He uses a fluorescent calcium sensitive dye to label the receptor neurons in the nose; the dye is then transported to the terminals of those neurons in the olfactory bulb. All of the receptor neurons that express receptors for a certain type of odor molecule send their axons to the same localized structure within the olfactory bulb, called a glomerulus. By removing the skin and bone above the olfactory bulb, he can use a sensitive camera to record real time changes in fluorescence in particular glomeruli that correspond to activation of different receptor neuron types in response to different odors. Although an individual glomerulus may be activated by several odors, the relative levels of activation of several glomeruli differ between odorants. As the concentration of the odorant increases, more glomeruli are recruited to respond; however, the relative pattern of activation is usually maintained for each odorant. Dr. Wachowiak also showed that there is a topographical map in the olfactory bulb such that odorants belonging to a certain class of molecules tend to activate glomeruli in the same area of the bulb, and this map is consistent across animals. Thus, it is possible to study the response to many odor molecules in a large number of animals and collapse the data across subjects to obtain more statistical power. In conclusion, this is an interesting technique that can be used to understand the detailed mechanisms of first order olfactory perception in live animals. Dr. Wachowiak hopes to continue this research by conducting psychophysical experiments to determine how well the mice discriminate between odors, using genetically encoded probes of neural activity to selectively image certain populations of glomeruli, and studying further steps of processing within the ... • 17. Letter To Romans The doctrine of Justification presents a myriad of problems when taken out of the context of Scripture. Therefore, in this paper, I will argue for a reformed perspective on Justification by way of Biblical expostion. Needless to say, there has been countless of capable theologians who have treated the doctrine of Justification through the past two thousand years. However, it is the apostle Paul, who, inevitably, treats the doctrine of Justification with precision. Therefore, it seems logical to appeal to the apostle, in order to fully understand the weight of what it means to be justified and made righteous before a Holy God. First, we will address what some people call Paul s systematic theology in his letter to the Romans. The book of Romans is perhaps the most precise exposition of the human condition and the act of God whereby humanity is redeemed. Next, we will treat the letter to the Galatians, where the apostle deals with the problem of the Law and the legal standing of the Believer. Finally, the letter to the Philippians ... It is surprising that Paul begins his letter with a positive notion that he was sent to preach the gospel (good news) of salvation and suddenly reverts to exposing the human condition, and the negative notion that we are all under God s wrath. (Biggs, 214) During metaphase, the short second phase of mitosis, the sister chromatids line up along the equator of the cell. Each sister chromatid has its own spindle fiber. Next comes the third phase of mitosis, Anaphase, in which the centromeres break in half, causing each of the daughter chromatids to start to be pulled to different poles of the cell by means of spindle fibers. The spindle fibers pull the daughter chromatids until they reach the poles of the cell. Finally, the last phase of mitosis called Telophase in which the daughter chromatids are fully pulled toward the poles and the nuclear envelope begins to reappear, the cell also begins to cleave, usually in the spot where the chromatids lined up in metaphase. After mitosis is complete, cytokinesis occurs, cytokinesis is the process in which a cell s cytoplasm is split into two equal parts, therefore causing the mother cell to split into two daughter cells. In plants, however, cytokinesis is replaced by the placing of a cell plate on the metaphase equator Mitosis is a process that guarantees better cellular work. The precision and accuracy of the breakfast prepared was impeccable: the milk cold, eggs and toast prepared to perfection, and exactly sixteen slices of bacon to feed a family. With such an ideal, why would anyone need or want to cook breakfast, when their effort could easily be replaced? Instead of relying on themselves, one would instead choose to rely on this automated kitchen. The more someone ceases to rely on themselves, the less responsible they ultimately become. Therefore, Bradbury s brief, yet powerful, use of imagery supports the idea that it in such a technologically advanced environment, taking on basic responsibilities is ... • 34. The Influence of Self-Assessed Body Image on Confidence... Research in psychology today seems to be drawn towards particular fields of interest especially when it comes to understanding human behavior. One of the most common research topics for social psychology is body image and the perceptions that are related to age groups, genders, and ethnicities. Young people today are pressured by society to make physical appearance a dominant factor in their everyday lives, and the pressure is found not only through media influence but friends and family as well (Pavica, 2010). These pressures can affect many different aspects of a person s life and significantly influence their actions. The aspects affected by body image can include popularity among peers, social comfort, and the attitudes an individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of this study is to observe how the physical state perceived by the individual affects the psychological and emotional states that they incorporate into their everyday lives. From the participants evaluation a greater focus will be on the relations of self assessment to an individual s confidence and self esteem level. The link between these aspects can possibly shed light on how decisions and lives are altered by self interpreted appearance, specifically body image. In addition, there is evidence which supports the theory that body image dissatisfaction affects both genders. By creating and enhancing a positive body image, a person greatly increases their self esteem (Ratanasiripong Burkey, 2011). A study was conducted that asked college aged men to rate their body image either positively or negatively, and found that self perceptions of those overweight were indistinguishable from a similar female sample (Drewnowski Yee, 1987). The confidence we aim to study will be an individual s personal belief in their ability to interact with others, resulting from their positive or negative body perceptions. At this point, it is important to give the operational definitions of all three variables. Body image within the discussion can be conceptualized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. A Study On Low Back Pain Patients With Associated Leg Pain... Abstract Background: Low back pain patients with associated leg pain symptoms generally have a poorer prognostic outcome compared to those with localised low back pain. Therefore, this study will investigate the difference in clinical outcomes associated with low back pain patients with and without self reported leg pain symptoms. This study will also address if additional co factors such as age, sex, and occupation have an effect on the severity of these clinical outcomes. The clinical outcomes which will be considered are pain rating, interference with active daily living (ADL) rating, anxiety rating, depression rating and control of pain rating. Methods: This retrospective cohort study compares adult low back pain patients with localised pain (n = 58) to low back pain patients with self reported leg pain symptoms (n = 54) who presented for chiropractic treatment. Patients completed the WIOC patient outcomes questionnaire as baseline which consisted of the Bournemouth Questionnaire, recording responses from an 11 point numerical scale (NRS). Demographic information was also collected. Differences between the two groups using the data collected from this questionnaire were calculated using the Mann Whitney U test. Differences between age and sex were also calculated using the test used. Results: Conclusion: Key words: Low back pain, Leg pain, Chiropractic, Outcomes Introduction The complaint of low back pain is the most common musculoskeletal problem in society today and ...
