Fate And Chance In Hiroshima, By John Hersey
In the novel, Hiroshima by John Hersey, the importance of fate and chance is illustrated throughout
the lives of the survivors from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in 1945. There are several
coincidental events that seem too fictional to be believed. The survivors of the bomb include Miss
Toshiko Sasaki, a clerk in the personnel department of the East Asia Tin Works; Dr. Masakazu Fujii, a
physician who owned a private hospital; Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura, a tailor s widow and a mother of
three; Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, a German priest of the Society of Jesus; Dr. Terufumi Sasaki, a
young surgeon of the city s Red Cross Hospital; and The Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto, pastor of
the Hiroshima Methodist Church. (p. 1 4) Out of the one hundred thousand people who perished
because of the atomic bomb, these six people, and many more survived due to luck and chance. ...

Miss Toshiko Sasaki turned her head to speak to a girl beside her desk. Frightened and fearful, she
stayed fixed in position, until she lost consciousness when everything collapsed. (p.16) Walls and
ceilings toppled over her and the bookcase pounced on her, leaving her with a horribly twisted left leg.
Simultaneously, Dr. Masakazu Fujii sat down to read on his porch of the hospital. As he was reading
the Osaka Asahi , he detected a brilliant yellow flash as his hospital collapsed into the river. (p. 11)

Analysis Of The Poem Sharda
POET BIOGRAPHY

Date and Place of Birth
Pablo Neruda was Born Ricardo Eliecer Neftali Reyes in Parral, Chile on July the 12th 1904. His
father was a railroad worker while his mother was a teacher who passed shortly after his birth. Neruda
had two half siblings when growing up.
Education
He attended Temuco Boy s School, where he published his first poems at the age of 13 under the name
Pablo Neruda to the daily La Mañana. This was because Neruda wished to hide his poetry from his
father who was not in agreement with Neruda s dream. Pablo Neruda choose this pseudonym as Jan
Neruda (1834 1891) had inspired the young poet. Once Neruda graduated at the age of sixteen, he

Neruda seems a very passionate person as displayed in the two poems analysed; If you forget me and
Your laughter .
What I think of this Person
I believe that Pablo Neruda led an extraordinary life. Neruda would ve had an interesting life,
experiencing different ways of life through being a consul and writing poetry to share his experiences.
Although I cannot relate to Pablo Neruda s poetry, it still speaks loudly and conveys a lot of emotion.
Pablo Neruda is a person who would be easily liked as he was an open soul and authored gentle
poetry. POETRY analysis
If you forget me by Pablo Neruda is a poem that has a peaceful and calming aura. My initial thought
when the thought was one of confusion as the poem didn t make complete sense.
If you forget me is based upon the subject of forgetting. This poem was composed to demonstrate that
if you ve forgotten someone, don t worry for they ve already forgotten you. Although, if you find
yourself thinking of them often, then so are they. If thinking of them is a routine, then you should find
them. Neruda has conveyed this message through stanzas four and six.
If suddenly you forget me do not look for me, for I shall already have forgotten you.
if each day, each hour, you feel that you are destined for me with implacable sweetness, if each day a
flower climbs up to your lips to seek me, ah my love, ah my own, in me all that fire is repeated,

Narrative of Quinceanera

From a Little Girl to a Young Woman
. The day of my Quinceanera started early. I had just turned 15 and it was the birthday I had always
dreamed of. I was always a dama in other Quinceanera s, but now it was time for my own celebration.
In Mexican culture, a dama is just like a bridesmaid. I had 14 of my closest friends as my dama s to be
a part of my court of honor . All 14 girls wore beautiful hot pink dresses and had polished hairstyles.
The girls looked like beautiful dolls. When my mother was a little girl she had two Quinceanera s.
One celebration took place in Mexico and the other here in California. Looking back at my ... Show

Somehow, I managed to keep a smile on my face as if I had no fears. The ceremony included Bible
verses and singing. I received six gifts from my aunts and uncles: a Bible, a bouquet of flowers, a ring,
a bracelet, a rosary and a tiara. Each of them was blessed by the father. Each gift I received held a
meaning: closeness with family and with God, and the passage to womanhood.
Later that day, the celebration continued with a party at Eagles Banquet Hall. As the festivities started,
I was so happy about the night to come. My court of honor was introduced as they led me into the
celebration. We started out the night by performing a traditional Quinceanera march. It was a
choreographed routine that we practiced for five months leading up to that day. My father came out
with tears in his eyes and softly removed my ballerina slippers from my feet and replaced them with a
pair of woman s heels. With tears in his eyes, he grasped and hugged me so tight it was as if he didn t
want to let me go. My father and I started to dance the traditional father daughter dance. As the song
was coming to the end, my father whispered in my ear, You re a beautiful young woman, but you will
always be my baby girl. At that moment, tears filled my eyes and I realized how much love my father
had for me. I will always remember that moment for the rest of my life.
My birthday was celebrated with a wedding style cake and 15 candles marking my age. It was 15

of the one governor and first published poet in America, was classified as a classic religious poet and
also was also considered a very modern poet who really focused on her everyday life and all of her
daily activates. Phillis Wheatley, enslaved at the age of 6, and became the first black women poet in
America wote mostly classical poetry and had many Christian views. Her poetry used pyscholical
meaning and also used poetic devices. Although both poets were to very respected poets of there time
both are also very different compared to their work. Phillis Wheatley s poetry was more in depth,
thoughtful, and had somewhat more stylish than the work of Anne s Bradstreet s. Anne s Bradstreet s
greatest influence on her writings was religion. As a child she was brought up as puritan therefore she
has puritan beliefs that was showed in her poems. However, In some of her writings it seems she was

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Youth
Introduction A violent video game is defined as a video game where the range of options available to a
player includes killing, maiming, dismembering, or sexually assaulting an image of a human being
(Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2010). For many years there has been increasing concern by the
general public, policy makers and social scientists as to whether or not violent video games have a
negative influence on the behaviour of youth. With the popularity of the gaming culture growing
dramatically amongst children and adolescences; the marketing of violent video games to youth has
become increasingly successful, allowing such games to become more easily obtainable regardless of
age (Anderson et al 2007). Consequently, the increase has raised the question of exactly what impact
exposure to these highly graphic games has on the younger generation; resulting in a range of research
and studies to continue to take place on the subject. It has become the norm in most modern societies
to associate violent video games as a considerable cause to the violent and aggressive outbursts of
youth (Ferguson 2010). Some even go as far as connecting some crimes committed by young people
as a result of their exposure to violent video games. While others claim there is no link between
violent video games and negative youth behaviour; some suggesting that violent video games have a
positive impact on the behaviour of youth. The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of

Foil In The Importance Of Being Earnest
The core of Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest lies within the play long pun that is
conveniently introduced in the very title of it. The most important twist in the entire book is not only
is no one being earnest, but no one in the book is actually named Ernest! It follows two characters, the
protagonist and his foil, and primarily focuses on their opinions on the world that they live in. The two
characters whom bunbury their way through town/the country in order to escape the responsibilities
they have waiting for them at home. These two characters masquerade around with seemingly nothing
going wrong until the issue of marriage is presented to them. Throughout the entirety of the play no
one is at all acting up to the true definition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that marrying an Ernest is the most important thing to her. Jack? ...No, there is very little music in the
name Jack, if any at all, indeed. It does not thrill. It produces absolutely no vibrations...I have known
several Jacks, and they all, without exception, were more than usually plain. Besides, Jack is a
notorious domesticity for John! And I pity any woman who is married to a man called John. She
would probably never be allowed to know the entrancing pleasure of a single moment s solitude. The
only really safe name is Ernest. she says after Jack tries to tell her that his name is not Ernest, but she
ends up rendering the feat impossible by showing us that she is just so in love that it is a resonating
sound that rings from the name Ernest that rocks her to the core with vibrations. Cecily is no different,
after an extensive conversation with Algernon about whether or not she actually likes the name
Algernon(she didn t), she says to him I might respect you, Ernest, I might admire your character, but I
fear that I should not be able to give you my undivided attention. Cecily s character is there to mirror
Gwendolen, just as Algernon is to mirror Jack, so to speak, she also expresses very little care for
anything other than the name of Ernest. Algernon and Jack are left with no other

Essay Death of a Salesman, Tragic Hero. Willy Loman.
To what extent can Willy Loman be considered a tragic hero according to Aristotle s rules?
Arthur Miller presents his play Death of a Salesman in the ancient form of a tragedy. Aristotle has
defined his idea of the perfect tragedy in his text, Poetics (350 BC).Here he suggests that the
protagonist must fall from an elevated social standing as a result of a fatal flaw within the character;
the fall from the main character creates resolution to the play which is seen as just; finally, Aristotle
identified that the action of the drama should take place within a 24hour timeframe. An ancient play
which is believed to be the perfect tragedy is Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. Death of a Salesman is
definitely a tragic play, but is Willy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At age 63 he still believes he is popular, respected and good looking which Linda, his wife,
encourages throughout the play. Statements such as you re the best looking man in the world which
supports his false beliefs. His unpopularity can be seen within the requiem when few people turned up
to his funeral besides his close family who love him, all of which he pushed away including Linda,
who he deceived.
Willy also obtains an idea that image is equal to success. This is known to be his hubris; excessive
pride. He takes pride in material objects Riding on a smile and a shoe shine... personality wins the day

but fails to admit that he isn t on the inside. He thinks personality can be judged on what he says, but
forgets that it shines through when he speaks. I won t have you mending stockings in this house! Now
throw them out . The stockings can be seen as a representative of Loman s unfaithfulness as a husband
as the sight of them brings back memories of when Biff caught him cheating on Linda and found out
the Willy had given the woman the expensive stockings he was supposed to give his wife as a gift.
Willy Loman s reasoning behind doing this may be because he didn t want to come across as low to
his mistress, so by giving her expensive stockings out of the blue it

Case Study The Atlantic Division
A Divisional Previews The Atlantic Division 1. Boston Celtics With the big offseason acquisition of
Al Horford, the Celtics are hoping to change their recent playoff history; the last two seasons have
been two one and done, getting swept by the Cavaliers and losing to the Hawks in six respectively. A
big hole that the previous two Celtics team had was at the center position. Night in and night out, the
center position was among the worst in terms of production. With Al Horford now on the roster that
hole is presumably filled. No longer will Celtics fans have to rely on the often out of shape Jared
Sullinger to bang down low against the much bigger, more athletic big men that opposing team s
possess. The presence of Horford also clarifies Kelly Olynyk s role with the team Prior to Horford s
arrival, Olynyk was in and out of the starting lineup, often splitting time with Sulliger. Being in a clear

The Eye Is An Extension Of The Human Body
Title
Introduction
The eye is one of the most complex parts of the human body. It is so complex and full of nerves, that it
can be considered an extension of the brain. That is why, even nowadays, it is still extremely difficult
to design a prosthetic that could completely substitute its functions. It is clear then, that the main goal
of visual prosthesis is to restore vision in blind individuals, providing stable, safe and long lasting
devices, in parallel with improvement of quality of life, meaning that each person is different, and not
always an enhancement in visual function translates into a better life.
To be able to understand and upgrade visual prosthesis, one must first understand the eye operates. A

Postmortem evaluation of retina of people with these diseases has also shown that a significant
number of cells remain in the inner retina. These cells can be used by the prosthesis; however, it is not
certain if the processing circuitry of the inner retina also remains intact.
State of Art
Firstly, it is important to clarify that it is possible to stimulate other visual pathways other than the
retina to recover visual perception. Examples of these are any sensory substitution based systems.
However, the retinal prosthesis, besides its complexity, is the most developed visual systems so far,
besides being the only of these prosthetic with the potential to restore the individual s vision as it was
before his/her specific disease.
There are currently two main types of retinal prosthesis available commercially: those that use an
external system for image capture and those that use the patient s own optical focusing system. Being
an example of each the Argus II retinal prosthetic system and the Alpha IMS one, respectively. Both
work with the same three step mechanism that consists of capturing the visual images from the outside
world, transducing them into meaningful neurological signals and subsequent activation of the optic
nerve. The way each device make each step differ.
The Argus II retinal prosthetic system uses a video camera as a capturing system. The images are then
processed in real time by a visual processing unit. These first steps occur extrinsic

The Destruction Of Great Works Of Art
Over the course of human history, political parties and movements have been involved in the
destruction of great works of art. From the Mongols to recent terrorist organizations like Islamic State,
these political organizations have a bad habit of destroying works of art. Moreover, this is only seen
being done by political organizations that seek change or control over the world.
The most recent and impactful of which being the Nazi party, Taliban, and Islamic state. This area is
incredibly interesting because art is being destroyed right under our noses, not many people
understand the impact of the history behind these works of art that are now destroyed, and it happens
over and over throughout human history. What is very peculiar about this is that not many people
really consider the motivation behind all of the destruction and vandalism. This begs the question,
what causes political organizations to destroy works of art in their quest for political power? For the
past few years the world has begun to really understand the affects and the power that the terrorist
organization Islamic State holds. The main source of media coverage of Islamic state ranges from the
murdering of innocent people to the destruction of ancient works of art. For example, Islamic state
militants in Iraq and Syria wage war against the region s cultural heritage by attacking archaeological
sites with bulldozers and explosives. The actual motives behind their destruction are not set in stone,

An Essay On Houston Texas
Hous·to·ni·an, a native resident of Houston, Texas. This term is popular in more states than Texas.
There s a saying that Everything is bigger and better in Texas. Houston is the fourth largest city in
America behind Nevada and ahead of New Mexico. Now that is big. People that are born in Texas are
natives, and therefore Houstonian. There are several races that call Houston home like Hispanics,
Asians, Blacks and Europeans. There is also a refugee population in Houston from places like
Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia. However, any person that lives in the culture and experiences the
culture to the extent that they consider themselves native can also be called a Houstonian. Houstonian
is not a term. Houstonian is a way of life, a culture, and an identity. Technically a Houstonian is
anyone native to the city of Houston, Texas. As vague as that may be, this surprisingly includes all
kinds of nationalities and races. Houston is melting pot city and many families are started here. As
long as you have lived in the city for a minimum time, or have been born in Houston that makes you a
Houstonian. Usually natives are born into a family of natives as well but other times it is a generation
that starts the path going forward. There is no particular face of a Houstonian, or style of dress for that
matter. A Houstonian is recognized by their comfort in the city. Houstonians a proud of their city and

Summary Of Success Is Counted Sweetest By Emily Dickinson
The poem, Success is counted sweetest, by Emily Dickinson, portrays success as something that only
those who have never obtained it can truly comprehend its value. The writer makes this apparent in the
poem by defining success, victory on a battlefield and a dying soldier s view of success. Dickinson
writes a poem that relays the emotions of those who understand defeat. In the opening lines of the
poem Dickinson defines success as something pleasant that is treasured most by those who have not
experienced it by stating, Success is counted sweetest / By those who ne er succeed (Dickinson 93).
Dickinson goes on to say that success can only be understood by those who truly need or desire
something. This is supported by Dickinson s explanation that for a person to understand how sweet

Evidence to support this begins in the lines, Not one of all the purple Host / Who took the Flag today

Literature at Swarthmore College revealed that the words used in these lines have a significant
meaning. She explained that the word purple is a color associated with royalty while the word Hosts
often refers to an army or even Christ which implies that these are successful soldiers (Cohen 42). The
fact that the army took the flag clearly symbolizes triumph and indicates that the army was victorious
in this battle. However, by referring to this army as Hosts Dickinson is also indicating that they were
privileged and had an unfair advantage. As a result, the writer declares, Not one... / Can tell the

Gaining a Sense of Peace in the Novel, Dreaming in Cuban...
Gaining a Sense of Peace In the novel Dreaming in Cuban by Cristina Garcia, Cuba had an impact on
each character especially to Pilar. Pilar moved to New York when she was just a little girl. She felt like
she was unfamiliar with her heritage, which sparked the idea to move back to her homeland. Pilar s
grandmother, Celia and her mother, Lourdes were Pilar s only connections to Cuba. Throughout the
book, Pilar has expressed several changes of heart towards Cuba. Although Pilar wanted to move back
to Cuba, she finally realizes that because of the Castro regime, she wouldn t be able to express herself
freely in Cuba. Pilar has a strong connection with her Abuela Celia. Celia is responsible for her desire
to move back to Cuba. Pilar hasn t seen Celia since she left Cuba when she was only two years old.
When Lourdes said she was leaving the country, Pilar wouldn t let go of Celia because she didn t want
to leave her. Pilar states, Mom tried to pull me away but I clung to Abuela Celia and screamed at the
top of my lungs (26). Pilar was attached to Celia more than her own mother. Ever since then Pilar hasn

states, Every day Cuba fades a little more inside me, my grandmother fades a little more inside me.

The Funeral Banner Of Lady Dai
The Funeral Banner of Lady Dai has several different symbolisms hidden within the paint and ink on
the sink banner. The symbol hidden within the banner can mean many things it just looked at by
themselves and so many more if looked at as a group instead of alone. The Funeral Banner of Lady
Dai relates to the phenomenon of interconnectedness between China, Korea, and Japan by unifying
these three countries by breaking geographic and language barriers and showing common practices
between them all. China was a big influence on both Japan and Korea, the banner may have also had
an influence on the art produced in both countries.
The Banner of Lady Dai banner was found in Lady Dai s tomb in 1972. The Marquis of Dai died in
186 B.C.E. while the Lady Dai (his wife) and their son both died in 163 B.C.E. The true function of
funeral banners is debatable, so think they have a connection to the afterlife. Funeral Banners were
also thought to be name banners to identify a person during mourning ceremonies, or shrouds to help
soul into the afterlife (McIntire) or attract the spirit of the deceased to their tomb where they were to
spend the rest of eternity in comfort. It is believed that banners like this were carried in front of the

My Life In Thailand
I experienced many different cultures, ethnicities and traditions when my family lived in Thailand. We
lived in a Refugee camp and it was not like an America society. Every month, a volunteer group from
a big city would aid every family in the refugee camp with bags of rice depending on how many
people are in your family. There were about ten schools in the camp which were public schools and
Catholic schools. Schools and houses were built out of bamboo and trees, and the buildings don t last
more than a decade. Life was not easy in Thailand. Not every parent had a job and they found other
ways to make money to provide for their families. There were many cultures and different ethnicities
living in the same area and our neighbors spoke different languages and they were from different
ethnic groups. There are many holidays and cultural traditions that we celebrate every year by
dancing, playing music, and having big festivals. The majority of families in the camp had chickens,
pigs, or other useful animals that help with everyday life. We had a garden in our backyard with fruits,
vegetables, and other types of eatable plants. There were banana trees, mangos, jackfruits, peppers,
papaya, sugar cane and star fruit trees. Our houses were built with bamboo and the rooftops were
covered with hay. A lot of houses were on hills because the camp was not a flat place. We had no
electricity or water lines connected to our home. Houses were built high above the ground in case of

The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney
Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The Faerie
Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors grammar
school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his Bachelor of
Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for the acquisition of
his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but also of the Italian,
French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman epic poet Virgil s
Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s
Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie
Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of William Shakespeare
and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular Renaissance literary genre,
Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler, rural life and a longing for a lost
world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the Renaissance, including Reformation and an
epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less complex ways of living as a way to escape
reality.
In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to
cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive
imagery.

The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio
In the book, The Decameron, by Giovanni Boccaccio, there is many tales but I am only going to speak
of two.The first tale, Fabricio Goes to Naples, was told by Fiammetta. Fiammetta s story differs from
the rest of the stories by, his has many dangers that occur in one night rather than over a period of
years. The second tale, Bernardo di Rossini and His Wife, was told by Dioneo. This story was
different than the others by, it was a comedy story, showing to laugh over bad things than over
virtuous deeds.
In, Fabricio Goes to Naples, a man from Perugia, by the name of Fabricio, sold horses. When Fabricio
heard that Naples sold horses at a cheap price, he set out with a purse full of money and some
merchants, hoping to receive a good deal. Sadly, he couldn t find a good deal. Even to show he meant
business, he foolishly opened his purse to display all of his money. A sicilian lady saw how much
money he had and thought, Who would make better use of that money than me?
The sicilian lady was with an older sicilian woman, whom knew Fabricio. When the older woman saw
Fabricio she greeted him affectionately. Fabricio recognized the woman for she had lived with
Fabricio s father. When the two ladies got back home, the younger lady carefully questioned the older
one about Fabricio, in order to find a way to get all of his money. By the time the lady felt she was
informed well enough, she knew nearly everything about him, including his family. The younger lady
then started to play

Is Turkey The Stupidest Animal In The World
Turkeys are large birds that behave differently from other birds. Their sizes are bigger compared to
most birds and are natives of North America. There are two different kinds of Turkey; domestic and
wild. Wild turkeys are the ones we eat for Thanksgiving or for Christmas. The domestic turkeys are
the ones raised in the farm while the wild ones are found in open forest, grassland and woodlands.
Turkey is a famous meal for western countries especially in Americas. This famous turkey is also
known for acting stupid and dumb. This paper will explain why Turkey is the stupidest organism in
the world.
Domestic turkeys have big boobs, which makes it more appealing for dinner meal. The big boobs are
what make it harder for domestic turkeys to be able to fly. Adult turkeys have approximately 5,000
feathers each and the male adult turkeys have 18 tails, which they use to attract the female turkey ...

What makes Turkeys very stupid from other birds is the way talk looks at thing. Turkeys do not have
ears but they good hearing which could be why they try to see whatever they hear. Turkeys can stare at
the sky for sixty seconds long without moving. Myths say that Turkeys drown in the rain from staring
at the sky. Although this myth is wrong it was made up due to how stupid turkey is. When Turkey
hears the rainstorm or thunderstorm, it just stands still and stares to see if it can what is making the
noise. In this process, it tilts its head to hear the sound better and that help it know where the sound is
coming from which is very stupid. Another weird thing about turkey is that the head changes color to
red when it is excited. The head of turkey can change to the color of red, brown, white, yellow, blue
and black based on its mood. When other animals are excited about something they make noise or run
around but in the case of turkey, it changes to

The Theory And Post Modernism Theory
CASE STUDY
Theories in social work play an important role in solving problems among families from different
background. Problems can be evolving from an individual ,or families or may constitute their
concerned societies or communities. In my report I have selected three theories each from the
recommended ones Individual theory, Structural theory and Post Modernism theory., that is cognitive
behavioural therapy, empowerment and narrative therapy respectively. As theory helps us understand
and contest ideas ,also offers a practice framework , I would like to impart these theories on practice.
(payne 2005) I have got a case to apply these principles of each theories. a client named Bob Cruise
had approached me with his family problems..On his first arrival itself he seemed to be
tensed..gradually he shared his problems with me in hope that i could cure him. Bob is from a low
socio economic suburb lived in a rental property ,his wife is disabled one and has getting disability
pension, he has no permanent job to serve his family ,also he has three kids(two adolescent boys and
one little girl). He has worry upon the children s malbehaviourism too..His both adolescent children are
disrespectful, to them and giving abusive words. Hence he is anxious about his future and told me his
money will be taken from them if they get well..In my perspective , I like to solve this problem by
using psychodynamic theory that is cognitive behavioural therapy..I

Stereotypes In The Woman Warrior
The woman warrior by Maxine Kingston elaborates readers what it was like to grow up as a female
Chinese American. Kingston came to America as a little girl with her family. Even though she was in
America, she still had to deal with old Chinese traditions. Traditions where women were seen as
useless and as slaves. But, Kingston refused to believe that women are worthless. She states, When
one of my parents or the emigrant villagers said, feeding girls is feeding cowbirds , I would thrash on
the floor and scream so hard (pg. 46). Therefore, Kingston fabricates her own versions of stories
where she portrays herself as a warrior who is a hero rather than a useless individual.
I believe Kingston tells stories to obliterate social perceptions of the woman in the traditional Chinese
society. Based on Chinese traditions that Kingston cultured from her parents and the stories that her
mother told, Kingston was under the perception that Chinese girls must only become a good wife and
bare children. However, I believe Kingston refused the gender role defined by the traditional Chinese
culture and used fictionalized stories to showcase that women are capable of doing masculine things
and at the same time can be a great mother or a wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Kingston uses her stories for a completely different approach. She uses her stories to portray
the woman, mainly herself, as a hero in the traditional Chinese society. The story of Fa Mu Lan
described in the chapter white tigers provides an alternative to the traditional Chinese beliefs about the
place of woman in the society. Kingston, portrays herself as a worrier who fights in place of her father.
I believe, she used this story to show that women are both capable of being a warrior and carrying out
their duties as a wife or a

Adnan Syed is accused of murdering his ex girlfriend, and various factors present him as a very likely
suspect. Information gathered from his peers don t add up, but instead prove he is innocent. Is Adnan
guilty or innocent for his ex girlfriend s death? In the Serial Podcast, Sarah Koenig discusses the case,
committed almost seventeen years ago, and uncovers new evidence that indicates Adnan s innocence.
Adnan Syed has been viewed as a boyfriend, honor roll student, and a murderer. Many described him
as a smart, flirtatious, and a likable high schooler. On January 13, 1999, his ex girlfriend Hae Min Lee
was murdered. Investigators immediately assumed Adnan as the primary suspect because Hae had

Looking back, Adnan is not guilty because he wasn t too upset after Hae broke up with him. Peers and
teachers have announced he took a breakup like any other high schooler, sad and glum. In the library,
Asia and Adnan were chatting with each other when Hae was dead. There s no possibility Adnan
could have killed Hae when he was in the library. Also, Adnan claims he does not know where Leakin
Park is. Aside from that, the sequence of events is inaccurate since Adnan s alibi has been supported
by witnesses. Although Jay claims he s been with Adnan when he reveals Hae s dead body and when
they buried it. However, most of the reasons that prove Adnan is guilty come from Jay, and no one

Attaining Hiv Epidemic Control By Stopping Hiv
ATTAINING HIV EPIDEMIC CONTROL BY STOPPING HIV TRANSIMISSION TO WOMEN
AND YOUG GIRL
In Rwanda, HIV prevalence has dropped to less than 3% since mid 1990s. The country has made
considerable development in regard to its commitments to reduce the incidence of HIV in the general
population, decrease morbidity and mortality among PLHIV , and the provision of equal health care
services to both people infected and affected by HIV and those who are not.
However, reports are still highlighting that many young people, especially girls, remain at risk of
contracting the virus (Unicef.org.2016), and that there is a considerable gender inequity in term of
HIV prevention and treatment.
For the purpose of this paper, we will suggest a program that aim at reducing the health disparities that
disadvantage the young girls and women and expose them to contracting HIV disease.
We believe that community involvement and engagement are the first key steps when it comes to
addressing public health issues in the community. As Haber stated it, it is a way to build greater
knowledge of local issues and increase consensus around interventions (Haber, 2011).
To design this project we will follow the steps recommended steps in the community guide toolkit for
developing an intervention and for developing strategic and action plan.
1. Identification of the community health problem to be addressed and Assessment of the level of the
problem (Ctb.ku.edu, 2016)

Mystified Students For High School Students
One question that has mystified teachers and lawmakers alike is, Does High School properly prepare
students for College upon graduation? . Certainly, academic counselors can advise students in the right
direction in terms of grades and what path career path to take upon graduation. Extracurricular
activities such sports and clubs help enhance one s social skills and help prevent a student from
becoming addicted to vices; such as drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, when one examines the
curriculum outcome from High Schools nationally, trouble looms. Studies from the National
Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) find that only a third of U.S. high school seniors are
prepared to tackle college level course work in the fields of math and reading. ... Show more content

Extracurricular activities may include sports, student council, student newspaper, music, art, theater,
and other miscellaneous clubs. According to Lunnenburg Extracurricular activities serve the same
goals and functions as the required and elective courses in the curriculum (Massoni). Such after school
activities allow students to utilize the knowledge and experiences that they have gained inside the
classroom. Students who join extracurricular activities, for example, basketball or the high school
musical are not expected to be the next LeBron James or Ronald Reagan, but being a part of those
activities will benefit them in the long run. Students who partake in extracurricular activities have
reduced behavioral problems (Owings). When playing sports, such as, soccer, tennis, golf, basketball
they will show discipline and commitment in the drills, practices, and routines. They have a
responsibility to show up, put forth there best effort, and work in harmony with their teammates. It s
the best time to do so given between the ages of nine and seventeen are when adolescents begin to
make their own decisions and control their behavior (). Lastly, partaking in extracurricular activities
provides students the ability to make inroads with their academic work. Research provided through the
United States Department of Education (USDE), showed that students who are involved in
extracurricular activities are three times more likely to have a grade point average of a 3.0 or higher
(Owings). Higher than students who chose not to partake in extracurricular

Wusselsucht Research Paper
It is often said that laughter is the best medicine. But what if laughter is part of the disease? This
phenomena is called Witzelsucht which is a German word that literally translates to joke addiction . It
results in the patient having a strange compulsion to constantly crack jokes. Witzelsucht is listed in
Dorland s Illustrated Medical Dictionary as a mental condition characteristic of frontal lesions and
marked by the making of poor jokes and puns...at which the patient himself is intensely amused . One
of the first cases was recorded in 1929 when German neurologist Otfrid Foerster was operating to
remove a tumor from a male patient. As was customary at that time, the man was conscious during the
surgery. As the surgeon began working on the cancerous growth, the patient began a frenzied
recitation of puns about anything and everything according to psychiatrist Dr. A.A. ... Show more

Mendez diagnosed the man with Witzelsucht after an interview with him where He constantly cracked

The patient had no recurrence nor metastasis after the first year of follow up. Discussion Thymic clear
cell carcinoma (TCCC) is a rare and aggressive variant of thymic carcinoma classified into high grade
category due to its poor prognosis: in a series of eight patients with a diagnosis of TCCC the median
survival was only 13 months (1). Other case series report always a poor disease free and overall
survival (10 15% at five years). TCCC is traditionally not associated to para neoplatic syndrome
(myasthenia gravis, pur cell aplasia), but symptoms, if present, are more frequently related to
aggressive behaviour or compression to surrounding structures. The diagnosis of primary thymic
carcinoma depends of exclusion of other sites clinically, especially kidney and lung, but also pancreas,
thyroid, larynx and salivary gland. For its rarity, are not available multimodal treatment and complete

  • 2. Fate And Chance In Hiroshima, By John Hersey In the novel, Hiroshima by John Hersey, the importance of fate and chance is illustrated throughout the lives of the survivors from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in 1945. There are several coincidental events that seem too fictional to be believed. The survivors of the bomb include Miss Toshiko Sasaki, a clerk in the personnel department of the East Asia Tin Works; Dr. Masakazu Fujii, a physician who owned a private hospital; Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura, a tailor s widow and a mother of three; Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, a German priest of the Society of Jesus; Dr. Terufumi Sasaki, a young surgeon of the city s Red Cross Hospital; and The Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto, pastor of the Hiroshima Methodist Church. Simultaneously, Dr. Masakazu Fujii sat down to read on his porch of the hospital. As he was reading the Osaka Asahi , he detected a brilliant yellow flash as his hospital collapsed into the river. Education He attended Temuco Boy s School, where he published his first poems at the age of 13 under the name Pablo Neruda to the daily La Mañana. This was because Neruda wished to hide his poetry from his father who was not in agreement with Neruda s dream. What I think of this Person I believe that Pablo Neruda led an extraordinary life. Neruda would ve had an interesting life, experiencing different ways of life through being a consul and writing poetry to share his experiences. Although I cannot relate to Pablo Neruda s poetry, it still speaks loudly and conveys a lot of emotion. Pablo Neruda is a person who would be easily liked as he was an open soul and authored gentle poetry. POETRY analysis If you forget me by Pablo Neruda is a poem that has a peaceful and calming aura. My initial thought when the thought was one of confusion as the poem didn t make complete sense. If you forget me is based upon the subject of forgetting. This poem was composed to demonstrate that if you ve forgotten someone, don t worry for they ve already forgotten you. Although, if you find yourself thinking of them often, then so are they. If thinking of them is a routine, then you should find them. Neruda has conveyed this message through stanzas four and six. If suddenly you forget me do not look for me, for I shall already have forgotten you. if each day, each hour, you feel that you are destined for me with implacable sweetness, if each day a flower climbs up to your lips to seek me, ah my love, ah my own, in me all that fire is repeated, in ... • 5. Narrative of Quinceanera From a Little Girl to A Young Woman Linda Rosario English 1A Professor Abra Mcdowell July 14, 2010 From a Little Girl to a Young Woman . The day of my Quinceanera started early. I had just turned 15 and it was the birthday I had always dreamed of. I was always a dama in other Quinceanera s, but now it was time for my own celebration. In Mexican culture, a dama is just like a bridesmaid. I had 14 of my closest friends as my dama s to be a part of my court of honor . All 14 girls wore beautiful hot pink dresses and had polished hairstyles. The girls looked like beautiful dolls. When my mother was a little girl she had two Quinceanera s. Somehow, I managed to keep a smile on my face as if I had no fears. The ceremony included Bible verses and singing. I received six gifts from my aunts and uncles: a Bible, a bouquet of flowers, a ring, a bracelet, a rosary and a tiara. Each of them was blessed by the father. Each gift I received held a meaning: closeness with family and with God, and the passage to womanhood. Later that day, the celebration continued with a party at Eagles Banquet Hall. As the festivities started, I was so happy about the night to come. My court of honor was introduced as they led me into the celebration. We started out the night by performing a traditional Quinceanera march. It was a choreographed routine that we practiced for five months leading up to that day. My father came out with tears in his eyes and softly removed my ballerina slippers from my feet and replaced them with a pair of woman s heels. With tears in his eyes, he grasped and hugged me so tight it was as if he didn t want to let me go. My father and I started to dance the traditional father daughter dance. As the song was coming to the end, my father whispered in my ear, You re a beautiful young woman, but you will always be my baby girl. At that moment, tears filled my eyes and I realized how much love my father had for me. I will always remember that moment for the rest of my life. The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Youth Introduction A violent video game is defined as a video game where the range of options available to a player includes killing, maiming, dismembering, or sexually assaulting an image of a human being (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2010). For many years there has been increasing concern by the general public, policy makers and social scientists as to whether or not violent video games have a negative influence on the behaviour of youth. With the popularity of the gaming culture growing dramatically amongst children and adolescences; the marketing of violent video games to youth has become increasingly successful, allowing such games to become more easily obtainable regardless of age (Anderson et al 2007). Consequently, the increase has raised the question of exactly what impact exposure to these highly graphic games has on the younger generation; resulting in a range of research and studies to continue to take place on the subject. It has become the norm in most modern societies to associate violent video games as a considerable cause to the violent and aggressive outbursts of youth (Ferguson 2010). Some even go as far as connecting some crimes committed by young people as a result of their exposure to violent video games. While others claim there is no link between violent video games and negative youth behaviour; some suggesting that violent video games have a positive impact on the behaviour of youth. The most important twist in the entire book is not only is no one being earnest, but no one in the book is actually named Ernest! It follows two characters, the protagonist and his foil, and primarily focuses on their opinions on the world that they live in. The two characters whom bunbury their way through town/the country in order to escape the responsibilities they have waiting for them at home. These two characters masquerade around with seemingly nothing going wrong until the issue of marriage is presented to them. It does not thrill. It produces absolutely no vibrations...I have known several Jacks, and they all, without exception, were more than usually plain. Besides, Jack is a notorious domesticity for John! And I pity any woman who is married to a man called John. She would probably never be allowed to know the entrancing pleasure of a single moment s solitude. The only really safe name is Ernest. she says after Jack tries to tell her that his name is not Ernest, but she ends up rendering the feat impossible by showing us that she is just so in love that it is a resonating sound that rings from the name Ernest that rocks her to the core with vibrations. Cecily is no different, after an extensive conversation with Algernon about whether or not she actually likes the name Algernon(she didn t), she says to him I might respect you, Ernest, I might admire your character, but I fear that I should not be able to give you my undivided attention. Arthur Miller presents his play Death of a Salesman in the ancient form of a tragedy. Boston Celtics With the big offseason acquisition of Al Horford, the Celtics are hoping to change their recent playoff history; the last two seasons have been two one and done, getting swept by the Cavaliers and losing to the Hawks in six respectively. A big hole that the previous two Celtics team had was at the center position. Night in and night out, the center position was among the worst in terms of production. With Al Horford now on the roster that hole is presumably filled. No longer will Celtics fans have to rely on the often out of shape Jared Sullinger to bang down low against the much bigger, more athletic big men that opposing team s possess. • 13. The Eye Is An Extension Of The Human Body Title Introduction The eye is one of the most complex parts of the human body. It is so complex and full of nerves, that it can be considered an extension of the brain. That is why, even nowadays, it is still extremely difficult to design a prosthetic that could completely substitute its functions. It is clear then, that the main goal of visual prosthesis is to restore vision in blind individuals, providing stable, safe and long lasting devices, in parallel with improvement of quality of life, meaning that each person is different, and not always an enhancement in visual function translates into a better life. To be able to understand and upgrade visual prosthesis, one must first understand the eye operates. A schematic representation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Postmortem evaluation of retina of people with these diseases has also shown that a significant number of cells remain in the inner retina. These cells can be used by the prosthesis; however, it is not certain if the processing circuitry of the inner retina also remains intact. State of Art Firstly, it is important to clarify that it is possible to stimulate other visual pathways other than the retina to recover visual perception. Examples of these are any sensory substitution based systems. However, the retinal prosthesis, besides its complexity, is the most developed visual systems so far, besides being the only of these prosthetic with the potential to restore the individual s vision as it was before his/her specific disease. There are currently two main types of retinal prosthesis available commercially: those that use an external system for image capture and those that use the patient s own optical focusing system. Being an example of each the Argus II retinal prosthetic system and the Alpha IMS one, respectively. From the Mongols to recent terrorist organizations like Islamic State, these political organizations have a bad habit of destroying works of art. Moreover, this is only seen being done by political organizations that seek change or control over the world. The most recent and impactful of which being the Nazi party, Taliban, and Islamic state. This area is incredibly interesting because art is being destroyed right under our noses, not many people understand the impact of the history behind these works of art that are now destroyed, and it happens over and over throughout human history. What is very peculiar about this is that not many people really consider the motivation behind all of the destruction and vandalism. This begs the question, what causes political organizations to destroy works of art in their quest for political power? For the past few years the world has begun to really understand the affects and the power that the terrorist organization Islamic State holds. The main source of media coverage of Islamic state ranges from the murdering of innocent people to the destruction of ancient works of art. Summary Of Success Is Counted Sweetest By Emily Dickinson The poem, Success is counted sweetest, by Emily Dickinson, portrays success as something that only those who have never obtained it can truly comprehend its value. The writer makes this apparent in the poem by defining success, victory on a battlefield and a dying soldier s view of success. Dickinson writes a poem that relays the emotions of those who understand defeat. In the opening lines of the poem Dickinson defines success as something pleasant that is treasured most by those who have not experienced it by stating, Success is counted sweetest / By those who ne er succeed (Dickinson 93). The symbol hidden within the banner can mean many things it just looked at by themselves and so many more if looked at as a group instead of alone. The Funeral Banner of Lady Dai relates to the phenomenon of interconnectedness between China, Korea, and Japan by unifying these three countries by breaking geographic and language barriers and showing common practices between them all. China was a big influence on both Japan and Korea, the banner may have also had an influence on the art produced in both countries. The Banner of Lady Dai banner was found in Lady Dai s tomb in 1972. • 22. The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The Faerie Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors grammar school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for the acquisition of his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but also of the Italian, French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of William Shakespeare and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular Renaissance literary genre, Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler, rural life and a longing for a lost world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the Renaissance, including Reformation and an epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less complex ways of living as a way to escape reality. In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive imagery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kingston came to America as a little girl with her family. Even though she was in America, she still had to deal with old Chinese traditions. Traditions where women were seen as useless and as slaves. But, Kingston refused to believe that women are worthless. She states, When one of my parents or the emigrant villagers said, feeding girls is feeding cowbirds , I would thrash on the floor and scream so hard (pg. 46). Therefore, Kingston fabricates her own versions of stories where she portrays herself as a warrior who is a hero rather than a useless individual. I believe Kingston tells stories to obliterate social perceptions of the woman in the traditional Chinese society. Based on Chinese traditions that Kingston cultured from her parents and the stories that her mother told, Kingston was under the perception that Chinese girls must only become a good wife and bare children.
