Comparing Eysenck s Theory Of Personality And Costa And...
Guilford (1959) defines personality traits as being any distinguishable, relatively enduring way in
which one individual varies from another . Subsequently, trait theory can be identified as an approach
to the study of human personality. The aim of psychologists, specifically trait theorists, is to explain
similarities and differences between individuals based on traits. Although numerous psychologists
differ on the amount of traits that are significant, each theorist categorizes personality traits along
several broad type spectrums. This assignment will focus on comparing and contrasting Eysenck s
Hierarchical Theory of Personality and Costa and McRae s Five Factor Model (FFM), two different
trait theories of personality.
Hans Eysenck, a psychologist well known in the field of personality based his trait theory on
biological explanations; whereby he believed genetic and biological factors were significant elements
of personality (Eysenck 1990). Eysenck also held the view that an individual s personality traits, or
what he referred to as temperament was an exact result of one s genetic make up (Chamorro Premuzic
Furnham, 2005). Eysenck encompassed the idea that there was a need to highlight the significant
dimensions of personality, create a way in which they could be measured and then link them with
experimental procedures. Subsequently, Eysenck developed a model of personality based on a
theoretical and statistical approach to the classification of traits. This is

OA Reflective Essay
Share with us your clinical experience of working with a patient using DMOADs
(viscosupplementation or Glucosamine and chondroitin). Please support or discount their use with
additional research and discuss. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent cause of chronic joint pain and
disability in the older adult. It commonly affects the knee resulting in the deterioration and injury of
the articular cartilage inducing joint pain, limitation of movement and reduction in the quality of life.
OA s financial burden is high, and treatment is directed towards alleviating pain. Conventional
medicines such as non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), including cyclooxygenase 2
inhibitors have adverse effects that can contribute to a serious medical condition. Nonetheless, there is
an alternative dietary supplement that can be used that claims to ease OA pain; these Nutraceuticals

Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) that quantify pain.

Whiteness Case Studies
From Kate s statement we can see that she is white to the Census, but socially she is not white because
society represents whiteness as of European decent. She personally identifies the advantages that
white people are given and she is not, even though she technically is white. Kate s personal statement
further mimics the 1923 Thind case in which the federal government identifies that whiteness is a
social standard that cannot be achieved unless from European descent. Although the federal
government no longer exclusively identifies whites as European descendants, socially white is defined
as of European descent, and Kate recognizes this. Anne, a black woman, is in constant reminder of her
racial differences to the white majority. Throughout her life, Anne was not deemed aware ... Show

childhood and two of the three (67%) WOC respondents attended a predominately white high school.
When analyzing the respondents answers to specific questions regarding the lack of diversity within
their immediate spaces, I was able to identify how a lack of diversity shapes the understanding of race,
for both WOC respondents and white respondents. Specifically, the WOC respondents are made
hyperaware of their race and even singled out for being racially different. The two of three (67%)
white respondents embody this lack of diversity in their actions and mentality of their own whiteness.
However, I will analyze diversity in a school setting from two respondents, a WOC and a white
respondent, to exemplify the importance of integration in

Jimmy Cross Character Analysis Essay
In this short story by Tim O Brien, Lieutenant Jimmy cross leads a platoon of men in the Vietnam War.
Unable to keep his thoughts from his unrequited love interested, Martha, Cross allowed his platoon to
become lax in their duties and mentally removed from the war. The conflict arises when one of his
men, Ted Lavender, is killed on a mission. The conflict is resolved when Lieutenant Cross abandons
his youthful fantasy world for the reality of the war he is living in. Cross finds new purpose in the
vigilant leadership of his men. O Brien carefully listed and weighted items, both physical and mental,
that individual soldiers carried, which served as a link in developing his character s personality traits.

NFL Held Responsible for Brain Injuries
NFL Held Responsible for Brain Injuries Throughout history in the NFL, head injuries and fixing
those problems have always been hidden from the athletes because of the NFL striving to make a large
profit instead of caring for the players. With this being an ongoing problem between NFL players and
the NFL itself, many past and current players are digging deeper to find the truth and statistics
continue to show how serious this problem actually is. When the lawsuits first began to come known
to the public, the NFL agreed to pay over seven hundred million dollars to compensate former players
suffering neurological injuries. Many believe the NFL offered this so quickly, hoping to avoid a
potential public relations nightmare. The NFL, a ten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may go deeper than that though (Kacsmar). The players accused the NFL of intentional misconduct
in its response to the headaches, dizziness, and other multiple signs that former players have reported (

Sclerosis (ALS), said The NFL must open its eyes to the consequences of its actions. The NFL has the
power not only to give former players the care they deserve, but also to ensure that future generations
of football players do not suffer the way that many in my generation have. ( Mega Lawsuit ). Many of
the former and present NFL players believe that like boxing, the NFL had to be aware of the health
risks associated with repetitive blows producing sub concussive and concussive results. The fact that
some members of the NFL player population were at significant risk of developing long term brain
damage, had to be known by the league. Players say, Despite its knowledge and controlling role in
governing player conduct on and off the field, the NFL turned a blind eye to the risk and failed to warn
and or impose safety regulations governing this well recognized health and safety problem. ( Lawsuit
). The NFL s rule change on moving kickoffs to the thirty five yard line in 2011 was expected to
decrease the number of head injuries, but overall head injuries

Catharsis In Night By Ele Wiesel
Aristotle once hypothesized that humans were attracted to tragedy and destruction so that they can
purge themselves of repressed emotions, otherwise known as catharsis. This is proved whenever
someone cries over a sad or tragic moment in a book or movie. After one stops crying, they feel relief.
This person might rewatch the same tragic moment or read it over and over so as to experience that
feeling again. In Night by Elie Wiesel, catharsis can be shown and experienced through the many
horrid situations that Elie is subjected to; however, Antigone by Sophocles may not offer the reader
the same feeling that Night offers. Night, by Elie Wiesel, provides an emotional release for the reader
through his vivid imagery of the conditions of the Holocaust. In one situation, Elie witnesses a boy
who has the strength to play his violin even after a march that caused terror and death. As Elie falls
asleep to the sound of the violin, he remarks, How could I forget this concert given before an audience
of the dead and the dying? (95). This moment exhibits a moment of hope and happiness in a situation
where there appears to be none. When Elie wakes up, he discovers the violin boy, Juliek, to be dead
next to his broken violin. However, when Juliek is revealed to be dead, so is the hope and happiness
previously felt. The sudden sadness and pity for the boy evoke a purgation of the sadness that has been
building up throughout the book. Later in the book, another occurrence of happiness

A Report On Telus Corporation
This first work term was done at Telus Corporation (also known as TELUS), one of the three major
telecommunications companies operating in Canada. The duration of the work term was spent
working in the Enterprise Architecture department as a Technology Architecture Assistant, and
working with the Wireless Development team as a temporary Software Tester. Working as a
Technology Architecture Assistant, main responsibilities included the managing of the content within
an internal department SharePoint site, aiding with the relaunching of a database synchronization
process, and the updating of charts report documents for the end of the first quarter. First, the co op
student was required to familiarize themselves with all the documents and lists present on the internal
department SharePoint site, and propose content which should be deleted or archived due to no longer
being relevant. By the end of the term, a means of identifying content to clean up was derived, and the
actual action of deletion and archiving was carried out. Secondly, the student was required to studying
a pre existing synchronization process that previously took place in Microsoft Access which
synchronized the contents of an external database with a list in SharePoint. Since the synchronization
process had stopped working prior to the arrival of the co op student, the student was required to find
a means to reproduce a working version of the process. The third major task, the updating of charts

Fear And Angst Disorder ( Gad )
Fear and angst can often pursue us all from time to time. The worry over a big meeting that could
make or break your career, or the fear of falling off the top of a cliff, are both rational and healthy
fears. But when you start to worry over a simple meet up, or nothing in specific, then it s possible you
have an anxiety disorder. While there are seven to eight different forms of anxiety disorders,
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), which is an anxiety disorder in which one has constant,
overwhelming anxiety over... everything, and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), which is an anxiety
disorder where one has anxiety only over social situations (such as public speaking, parties, going to
school or work, etc.) are the two most common. Despite the fact that they are often viewed as very
different diagnosis, GAD and SAD have very similar symptoms, treatments, and affect near the same
amount and type of people. Because GAD is a mental disorder and affects your brain, which controls
everything you do, it does have some physical symptoms. These can include restlessness, a faster than
average heartbeat, muscle tension, and lightheadedness. Often times, somebody with GAD will have a
lack of sleep because they are worrying over the next day, and thinking over the possible negative
outcomes. This keeps the brain awake , not allowing much sleep. GAD can also cause bad dreams,
that could wake somebody up. A fast heartbeat is caused by the constant worry, where the brain sends

Gaudy Night By Dorothy L. Sayer
Gaudy Night by Dorothy L. Sayer takes place in Oxford, England. One of the most significant place in
this book is Shrewsbury College, an imaginative college set in University of Oxford. Therefore, Sayer
constructs the story space within the Oxford community. Although the story has a lot of different
setting in different places, we must aware of its representation or even symbolism in some significant
places. Generally, the places in the story can be categorized as public and private space. This category
will also be the skeleton of this essay.
In this essay, I will first encounter the definition on both public and private spaces in this story to have

First, river is playing a very important role of public space in this story. Geographically, the river in
the story is linking both Oxford and London. The River Cherwell is a major tributary of the River
Thames in central England. It rises from Northampton, England to Oxford, England. Then, The River
Cherwell merge with The Isis which is from Oxford, England to London, England. When The Isis
arrive London s territory, it is called River Thames. River first appears as a metaphor while Harriet is
shrugging weather she should go back to Oxford despite the heated discussion of her rumor with Peter
Wimsey. But she doubted whether she were now capable of any such withdrawal. She had long ago
taken the step that put the grey walled paradise of Oxford behind her. No one can bathe in the same
river twice, not even in the Isis. (Sayers 19) This is a reference to Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher
meaning that you cannot step into the same river twice because you are changing and the river is
changing. This is also an indication of the transformation of both characters and place. The
transformation of river as Heraclitus suggests is also a symbol of changes in ideology. Her struggle on
going back to Oxford or not confirms its ideology on Feminism. She is returning to this quite place,
where only intellectual achievement counted (Sayers 18) place, rather than staying in London, a place

Race and Affirmative Action Essay
Race and Affirmative Action
Race is an issue that is embedded in the nation s history and continues to spur discussions on how the
different minorities and ethnic groups must be treated fairly. Affirmative action is a recent attempt to
solve the discriminations produced by racial inequality. However, affirmative action is also being
scrutinized as scholars and the public debate the benefits and harms of affirmative action. A Historical

However, by the late 1970s flaws surfaced in the affirmative action policy. Reverse discrimination
became an issue, epitomized by the Bakke case of 1978. A medical school that had accepted less
qualified minority applicants had rejected Allan Bakke, a white male, two consecutive years. The
school had a separate admissions policy for minorities. It reserved 16 out of 100 places for minority
students. The Supreme Court voted that it was unconstitutional to set inflexible quota systems in
affirmative action programs. The medical school had discriminated against a white applicant. In the
same ruling, however, the Court upheld the legality of affirmative action in forms other than quota
systems. In 1979 the Supreme Court reflected the Bakke decision. The Supreme Court ruled in AFO
CIO v. Weber, 444 U.S. 889 that race conscious affirmative action efforts designed to eliminate a
conspicuous racial imbalance in an employer s workforce resulting from past discrimination was
permissible, as long as the actions were temporary and did not violate the rights of white employees.
College admission imbalances have resurfaced as a problem for affirmative action. Recently, the
Smith v. University of Washington case upheld the university s affirmative action program, although
the program could no longer be used after the passage of Initiative 200 in 1998. Initiative 200 is a

Introduction
The world of telecommunications is a dog eat dog world. Marketing and innovation is key. Leading
the pack as America s fastest growing network (*) is none other than T Mobile. Of course it was not
always this way. With the on boarding of CEO John Legere in 2012, the then small
telecommunications company, skyrocketed to 73 million customers(Feloni, 2016). In 1994 T Mobile,
with the name of VoiceStream Wireless PCS, was established by John Stanton. Seven years later it
was purchased by Deutsche Telekom AG for a whopping $39 million and rebranded T Mobile US the
following year. In 2011 T Mobile was in financial trouble and was looking to be purchased by AT T.
The deal was struck down by the US Department of Justice because it would lessen the competition in
the market. In early 2012 John Legere became CEO and the rebranding started. T Mobile then went on
to acquire MetroPCS Communication in October 2012 to broaden their customer base and increase
prepaid service revenue. John Legere then introduced contract free pricing in 2013 which then forced
the big guys (Verizon and AT T) to follow suit. Due to their success, Sprint attempted to acquire the
company in 2013 but abandoned the idea due to the fact that it was unlikely to be approved by the
government (Maynes, 2017). In 2016 there were talks of T Mobile purchasing Sprint. In November of

Malaria Is A Disease That Affects The World s Poorest
CUNY Nobel Science Challenge Malaria is a disease that affects nearly 600 million people and causes
more than a million deaths a year, the most coming from children under five. This disease is regularly
found in more than 100 countries around the world and affects 40% of the world s population. It is
most commonly transmitted by an infected Anopheles mosquito. The most deadly form of malaria is
known as Plasmodium falciparum because almost all deaths from malaria are caused by this specific
one. Some of the symptoms that are affiliated with this strand of malaria are the destruction of red
blood cells along with complications with the kidneys, lungs, and brain. In more serious cases, it can
cause permanent neurological effects and even death. As the Nobel Assembly said at the
announcement of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Diseases caused by parasites have
plagued humankind for a millennium and constitute a major global health problem. In particular,
parasitic diseases affect the world s poorest populations and represent a huge barrier to improving
human health and wellbeing . Youyou Tu, one of the winners of the prize, discovered Artemisinin, a

Website Analysis of National Right to Life Committee (NRLC)
Key Terms: Claims, Typifying Example, Pro Life, Rhetoric, Social Movement, Abortion, Assisted
Suicide, Life, Organization.
Introduction
National Right to Life Committee(NRLC) is the second oldest and largest pro life organization in the
United States. This social movement organization deals with several life related issues like abortion,
assisted suicide or euthanasia, cloning, Medicare issues and so on. However, my focus topics are
Abortion and Assisted Suicide/ Euthanasia because these are the two most common issues life related
issues.
Abortion
The rate of abortion in the United States has been increasing rapidly since 1973, with an estimated
total of over 55 million abortions. Research also shows that more Americans now commit abortion for
less important reasons than rape of incest since the legalization approximately 93% of the women who
carry out abortion explain that they do it for social reasons . However, National Right to Life
Committee(NRLC) provides some normative claims as to why should not be legalized as the rhetoric

The United States And The World War II
The United States, also known as the land of the free and the home of the brave. The United States has
been an icon for freedom and integrity for generations before us and is bound to have written in
various texts around the world. The United States has done its best to do the right thing throughout the
world. It believes itself to be the one to fix the issues that are happening in the world around them as
an act of kindness and justice. In the first World War, when Britain was falling and the German troops
were right on the horizon, American President at the time, chose to involve us in a war that had
originally not been our own. At the time of 1917, President Woodrow Wilson admitted us into the
campaign as a show that we would take a stand against the German Empire. The country did the same
at the year of 1941 in World War II, only after Japan had initiated an attack on American soil. As seen
from these two occurrences, America only then would involve themselves in foreign affairs when it
was necessary to do so and where they were involved themselves. There is also the idea that America
shouldn t be involved in foreign affairs as a whole, due to its moral and economic effect upon the
country. In the idea of the involvement causing economic hassles to the country, those that think this
usually lean towards the liberal standpoint of the country. Those that are more patriotic tend to ignore
the economic issues that come from United States involvement in foreign affairs

Art in Raw Form
Art in Raw Form The movie industry is for entertainment purposes. For many people, going to the
movies is an escape; time to sit back and become someone else. However, once in a rare moment then
a movie comes out that is not just foe entertainment and dares to address a controversial issue. The
Blind Side and Precious are two movies that I was very surprised at my reaction to them. My reasons
for wanting to see both movies were as different as night and day. I went to see the Blind Side because
it is based on a true story and Sandra Bullock is the leading lady. Yet, Precious doesn t have a famous
leading lady, but the previews were so intense and so realistic that it pulled me in. The Blind Side and
Precious are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The coloring was bleak, with Precious dream sequences being done in bright flashy colors and high
resolution (Review). For instance, the scene where Precious is at the Each One, Teach One School.
Here the colors are red, yellow, blue, and green, and as she walks down the hallway into the classroom
she dissolves, she is double exposed and the lighting turns bright, coppery and almost cloudlike. It s as
if it were saying that Precious is walking into an unknown world. There is also the scene where
Precious is standing at the top of the stairs looking down at her mother. The overhead shot, the
lighting and color were used to perfection to reflect a sense of power for Precious. Here, Precious was
finally on top . Even the scenes where she is being raped by her father and then we are looking at
pieces of meat sizzling in hot grease are representative of how Precious felt; she was just a piece of
meat. The cinematography resembles that of a documentary where the use of the camera has a
different style to give you that almost realistic feel. Its grainy look, hard zooms, and shaky angles add
an element that dramatic angles might not in order fully bring out the Precious pain and desperation
(Review). All the elements of this movie from the editing to the cinematography were superb together.
The acting, editing, music, cinematography worked beautifully together to tell one powerful story of
redemption and hope in the face of impossible obstacles

Emory University Student Interview Report
Emory University School of Medicine is my first choice of medical school. Since the day of my
interview, I have felt like I belong there. The pride in the University, the love for the city of Atlanta
and the steadfast dedication to the underserved were ever present during my entire visit. The passion
Dr. Schwartz and Rachel, my tour guide, displayed for serving at Grady Hospital was infectious. After
being able to experience Grady first hand, I left feeling eager for the opportunity to serve at this
hospital and confident that I would learn much more than medicine there. I understand being at Grady

During my visit, hearing current students share their early patient interactions during Week on the
Wards as well as their outpatient clinical experiences inspired and energized me. I noted the genuine
excitement and camaraderie the Emory students had while their fellow classmates shared their own
individual experiences. It became clear to me that the collaborative atmosphere is not only present but
also encouraged at Emory. The new curriculum s preparation for residency, including finishing all of
the core rotations before applying for residency in addition to the month long capstone, is more
thorough than most and ideally designed to help me make a more informed decision regarding my
match preference. The discovery phase is a uniquely important aspect to Emory s curriculum as well.
During my undergraduate career, I worked two years on graduate research projects and look forward
to finding my passion at Emory in my own research. After hearing my student tour guide, Rachel,
explain that her research project analyzes the ethics of patients understanding a new and complicated
treatment, I realized I would probably prefer research that involves patient

Essay on Alcohol Advertising
Alcohol Advertising
Exposure to alcohol advertising is an everyday occurrence. Alcohol advertising is persuasive not only
to adults but to those who are too young to buy alcohol legally. Although parents and peers have a
large impact on youth decisions to drink, marketing also has a significant impact by influencing the
attitudes of parents and peers and helping to create an environment that promotes underage drinking.
Alcohol companies focus billions of dollars on advertising their products and still claim that the effect
is minimal. I pose a few questions that are; who are the targets of alcohol advertising? How does
alcohol advertising affect the people targeted by alcohol companies? Finally what actions are being
taken to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recognizing this important marketing fact, alcohol companies deliberately devise ads designed to
appeal to heavy drinkers. The heavy user of alcohol is usually an addict. Another interesting
perspective on the industry s claim that it only advertises to encourage moderate drinking to those of
age, is that if this were true, and only the 105 million drinkers of legal age in the US consumed the
official maximum moderate amount of alcohol, .99 ounces or roughly two drinks, a day the industry
would suffer a 40 percent decrease in the sale of beer, wine, and distilled spirits. Meaning that if
alcohol companies truly only targeted who they claim they do, they would only be nearly cutting their
profits in half. Besides the heavy drinkers, the young audience plays a great deal to the alcohol
industry. It is no wonder alcohol is appealing to the youth when ads only display very healthy,
attractive, and youthful looking people. Advertising is a powerful educating force in American
Culture, one that promotes attitudes and values as well as products. Ads are now even featuring
characters with special appeal to children. The makers of some 200 consumer products including
stuffed animals, dolls, T shirts, posters, and mugs are dedicated to alcohol. Advertisements have even
gone as far as popular children s movies; one example of this was the very popular Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles movie. The average age which people begin

The crime scene is a delicate place that must be respected if a true picture is to be recognized in the
investigative process. Approaching a crime scene requires the forensic specialist, or anyone directly
involved with the incident, a sharp mental attitude and knowledge of the law. The purpose of this
essay is to examine the processes involved with a crime scene investigation. This will include a
discussion about collecting evidence and will use the given scenario to highlight a practical example
of how a crime scene should be approached and managed in order to receive the best and most honest
results that the justice system may allow.

The Truth about Hackers Essay
The Truth about Hackers
The Truth about Hackers In the winter of the year 2000 an eighteen year old hacker, who went by the
name Curador accessed about 26, 000 credit card numbers and put them on the internet. With the help
of an ex hacker, Curador was eventually tracked down and sentenced. All of this was explained in a
frontline interview with Curador himself also known as Raphael Gray. Who are these so called
hackers? Are peoples assumptions about teenage hackers correct? In 1995 the movie Hackers
portrayed the images and lifestyles of hackers similar to the one mentioned above. The characters in

The article, Finding ones own in cyberspace by Amy Bruckman, explains how anyone can form their
own cyber community. Bruckman says, the way a community is publicized or not publicized also
influences its character (175). Even though the hacker society has not been publicized, they are still
around. Hackers publicize the information that they want other people to hear. Their prerogative is to
portray themselves the way they want to be known. In an interview conducted with researcher Sarah
Gordon, who studies the psychology of virus writers and hackers, she states, There are lots of kids just
out joyriding on computer systems. Not everyone knows what they are doing or how serious they are
affecting other people. Therefore, many different cyber communities are formed including a few for
hackers. Also shown in Hackers is the idea that hackers not only come together through the internet,
but also in the real world. Everyday hackers do not limit their meeting places to just the cyber places
as shown in the film. The hytec environment such as raves is easy for Hollywood to associate with
hackers. However, raves and cyberspace are not the only places for hackers to meet. They can also
meet anywhere such as a coffee shop or a park. Hackers tend to be perceived as people with an
addiction or infatuation with computers. The movie shows the main character staying up all hours of
the night and not really getting any sleep. Many people do this for other things

Probate Process Analysis
The process of probate involves proving the validity and legitimacy of a will. This only happens after
someone dies and an interested party files the will with the local probate court. The court reviews the
will and decides whether it is valid or not. That is probate in simplest form. But, often probate is not
so simple. Admitting the Will for Probate The first step to the probate process is admitting the will. In
Texas, this is done by submitting an application for probate with the probate court. The person filing
the application can be a spouse, a child, a parent, or any other person named in the will. There is only
a limited period between the time the person dies and the time the will can be admitted to the probate
court. The courts

The Graph Is It Contains Too Much Information Compiled...
Graph A can be misleading and a bit difficult to read, While the graph does provide a decent amount
of information the major problem here is that it contains too much information compiled into each
section. This takes away from what the reader could be obtaining from this graph, to avoid this the
graph could be constructed with less subsections of information and instead be organized This graph
can be easily mistaken and misread, readers who take a glance at this graph will notice right away that
the sizing for each portion doesn t scale with the percentage given, plus each graph is organized in
such a manner that the colors clash with one another forcing each person to compare the colors to the
graph slowly, on a further note the graph has the pyramid in 3D which doesn t help the graph get its
point across. In order to increase the effectiveness of this graph, I would have each section be properly
sized to match the percentiles as well as get rid of the useless 3D, unless you added a image to match
each representation on the side. However, if you were trying to explain why one costs more than the
other , a simple bar graph comparing the price of each ingredient would suffice. If you re looking at
this graph to explain the crime rate changes, this graph has not enough information as well as
ineffective labeling, while the graph does show how each changes, at first glance it would be
confusing, on the right it shows each city starting out at 100, which can be mistaken for

the Sixties, major construction works took place in an aera nearby called the Onolfpolder. During the
late Ice Age, swollen rivers deposed a mass of organic materials in that area, like the skeletons of
woolly mammoths, and bones from the equally woolly rhinoceros. Up to three tones of bones were

bicycle. Too bad, officials confiscated his collection. But years later, when De Potter had became a

GWAS Essay
The analysis article is based on the Genome wide association studies of cancer, or
GWAS. GWAS is an approach to research the genetic basis of different diseases. For
example, with oncology, GWAS was performed and able to identify approximately 450 genetic
variants that are related to the risks, as well as provided proof of polygenic susceptibility.
This review targeted on the functional basis and gene structure of cancer susceptibility.
Regarding cancer, there s a pattern of relative risk or RR, that s high in relatives of patients who
experienced early onset cancer. Some risks in first degree relatives of patients accrued from twofold to
threefold. Leukemia and testicular cancers are exceptions where the RR were accrued from ... Show

There were two classes of cancer susceptibility variants identified. First one was the rare moderate
penetrance variants that were known through the candidate genes, which had a risk allele frequency of
less than 2%. An example of this would be when other genes encoded proteins in the DNA damage,
which is associated with breast cancer risk. The second one would be the common low penetrance
alleles, which had risk allele frequency less than 5%. This reflected upon the various subgroups of risk
alleles that were detected. GWAS compared the frequency of common DNA variations with healthy
individuals. Figure 2 showed the performance of DNA samples that were taken. The controls and
patients DNA samples were genotyped using genome platforms that analyzed genetic variations in
single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). There should be a match between the patients and controls
to attenuate the false positive associations. To minimize them, statistical thresholds like Bonferroni
correction is used. Bonferroni correction is a common threshold for genome wide significance of a P
value that is less than 0.00000005, or a 5% significance level for millions of tests. The threshold is
used for sequencing studies or genome imputation of ten million variants, assuming that linkage
disequilibrium would be equivalent to a million independent tests. Also, the imputation of genotypes

The Importance Of Restorative Justice
Last year in Chicago, there were nearly 800 homicides that took place throughout the city and that is
just Chicago alone! Imagine what the numbers would be like if you added up all the homicides that
took place in each state throughout the United States. It would be outrageous and that would only be
for our 50 states, it does not include other countries around our world. Crime rates are skyrocketing
and something needs to be done. For some of these offenders, receiving a harsh punishment and being
put in jail makes them realize what they have done and makes them want to better themselves once
they get out. On the other hand, other offenders serve their time, get released, and go right back to
their old ways, the ways that put them in jail in the first place. Punishment does not seem to work for
everyone; therefore a new approach must be put into action, this approach being restorative justice.
Restorative justice is a groundbreaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Restorative justice can take place in places such as police stations, courtrooms, and prisons. Many of
the restorative justice programs take place in prisons because it relates to the victim offender
relationship. I believe a good place for restorative justice within the criminal justice system is in
prisons because the prisoners have nothing else to do so it is a good time for them to focus on that
practice and keep busy because there is much time to be dedicated to mending their offender (RJ in the
Criminal Justice System). But an even better process for restorative practice would be outside of the
criminal justice system in places such as schools, workplaces, faith communities, families, and
communities. Being somewhere outside of the criminal justice system gives the victim and offender
more privacy and makes them feel more comfortable which can help a lot when expressing and coping
with their

Insanity of War in Slaughterhouse Five
Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., is the tale of a gawky World War II veteran/soldier, Billy
Pilgrim. His wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is
unexplainable. To portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical
and science fiction. The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic
and tragic elements. The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden
are contrasted by many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of

One soldier dies from the dry heaves after being forced to work in a rotting corpse mine. Ironically,
this man has survived the bombing of Dresden, yet dies from the smell of others who died in the
bombing. Eventually, the corpse mines are closed because of the horrendous conditions, and the war
ends. The book ends as Billy is walking out of the slaughterhouse after gaining his freedom and he
notices is that, Birds were talking. One bird said to Billy Pilgrim, Poo tee weet? The bird s cameo in
the story reinforces the idea that there is nothing to say about an unnecessary massacre as in Dresden,
and that war is illogical, like the bird s words. This is ironic, since the theme of the novel, which
should be the clearest message derived from the story, is summed up in the incoherent words of a bird.
All these incidences of irony show senselessness and coincidence, with undertones of dark humor. [In
questioning why the incidences of the novel occur, it is impossible to give a logical explanation.] This
parallels the idea that war is nonsense, senseless, full of coincidence, and is unexplainable. As a result
of the trauma of Billy s war experience, he faces an inability to deal with reality later in his life. The
fantastical Tralfamadore is a planet where Billy escapes to when he feels life s stresses; however mad
Billy seems to have become, Tralfamadore doubles to reveal Vonnegut s earnest fatalistic views.

  • 2. Comparing Eysenck s Theory Of Personality And Costa And... Guilford (1959) defines personality traits as being any distinguishable, relatively enduring way in which one individual varies from another . Subsequently, trait theory can be identified as an approach to the study of human personality. The aim of psychologists, specifically trait theorists, is to explain similarities and differences between individuals based on traits. Although numerous psychologists differ on the amount of traits that are significant, each theorist categorizes personality traits along several broad type spectrums. This assignment will focus on comparing and contrasting Eysenck s Hierarchical Theory of Personality and Costa and McRae s Five Factor Model (FFM), two different trait theories of personality. Hans Eysenck, a psychologist well known in the field of personality based his trait theory on biological explanations; whereby he believed genetic and biological factors were significant elements of personality (Eysenck 1990). Eysenck also held the view that an individual s personality traits, or what he referred to as temperament was an exact result of one s genetic make up (Chamorro Premuzic Furnham, 2005). Eysenck encompassed the idea that there was a need to highlight the significant dimensions of personality, create a way in which they could be measured and then link them with experimental procedures. Subsequently, Eysenck developed a model of personality based on a theoretical and statistical approach to the classification of traits. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. OA Reflective Essay Share with us your clinical experience of working with a patient using DMOADs (viscosupplementation or Glucosamine and chondroitin). Please support or discount their use with additional research and discuss. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent cause of chronic joint pain and disability in the older adult. It commonly affects the knee resulting in the deterioration and injury of the articular cartilage inducing joint pain, limitation of movement and reduction in the quality of life. OA s financial burden is high, and treatment is directed towards alleviating pain. Conventional medicines such as non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), including cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitors have adverse effects that can contribute to a serious medical condition. Nonetheless, there is an alternative dietary supplement that can be used that claims to ease OA pain; these Nutraceuticals are namely Glucosamine sulfate (GS) and chondroitin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sawitzke et al. (2010, p. 1463) Illustrates the Glucosamine/chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT) as a tool to examine the outcomes of the dietary supplements; the researchers discovered that Glucosamine is ineffective and shows no benefit compared to placebo particularly when using the Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) that quantify pain. Durmus, Alayli, Bayrak, and Canturk (2012, p. 277) pointed out that WOMAC is a self reporting tool used to measure lower extremity pain, stiffness and physical function. However the findings of Sawitzke et al., were refuted by Fransen et al. (2013, p. 851) This group conducted an exploratory investigation of participants with moderate severe pain at baseline, and their results did imply denotative benefit from the amalgamation of GS and CS ... • 4. Whiteness Case Studies From Kate s statement we can see that she is white to the Census, but socially she is not white because society represents whiteness as of European decent. She personally identifies the advantages that white people are given and she is not, even though she technically is white. Kate s personal statement further mimics the 1923 Thind case in which the federal government identifies that whiteness is a social standard that cannot be achieved unless from European descent. Although the federal government no longer exclusively identifies whites as European descendants, socially white is defined as of European descent, and Kate recognizes this. Anne, a black woman, is in constant reminder of her racial differences to the white majority. Throughout her life, Anne was not deemed aware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I analyzed that four of the six (67%) respondents lived in a predominately white community and attended a predominately white high school for a duration of their childhood. Furthermore, three of three (100%) WOC respondents lived in a predominately white neighborhood for a duration of their childhood and two of the three (67%) WOC respondents attended a predominately white high school. When analyzing the respondents answers to specific questions regarding the lack of diversity within their immediate spaces, I was able to identify how a lack of diversity shapes the understanding of race, for both WOC respondents and white respondents. Specifically, the WOC respondents are made hyperaware of their race and even singled out for being racially different. The two of three (67%) white respondents embody this lack of diversity in their actions and mentality of their own whiteness. However, I will analyze diversity in a school setting from two respondents, a WOC and a white respondent, to exemplify the importance of integration in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Jimmy Cross Character Analysis Essay In this short story by Tim O Brien, Lieutenant Jimmy cross leads a platoon of men in the Vietnam War. Unable to keep his thoughts from his unrequited love interested, Martha, Cross allowed his platoon to become lax in their duties and mentally removed from the war. The conflict arises when one of his men, Ted Lavender, is killed on a mission. The conflict is resolved when Lieutenant Cross abandons his youthful fantasy world for the reality of the war he is living in. Cross finds new purpose in the vigilant leadership of his men. O Brien carefully listed and weighted items, both physical and mental, that individual soldiers carried, which served as a link in developing his character s personality traits. Rat Kiley is the medic and carried comic books, brandy, and a medical supply satchel with morphine, plasma, malaria tablets, surgical tape and M Ms. Kiley s youth is captured in his desire for comic books and candy. Kiowa is an American Indian steeped in tradition. A devout Baptist, Kiowa carried an illustrated New Testament from his father, a feathered hunting hatchet from his grandfather, moccasins, and his grandmother s distrust of white men. Lee Strunk s slingshot and tanning lotion are representative of an outdoorsy, adventurous boy. This is further shown when he comes out of the dreaded tunnel grinning (8). Finally, protagonist Jimmy Cross is the platoon leader and carried a compass, maps, code books, binoculars, a .45 caliber pistol that weighs almost three pounds, strobe light, two photographs of Martha, a good luck pebble, and the responsibility for the lives of his men. • 6. NFL Held Responsible for Brain Injuries NFL Held Responsible for Brain Injuries Throughout history in the NFL, head injuries and fixing those problems have always been hidden from the athletes because of the NFL striving to make a large profit instead of caring for the players. With this being an ongoing problem between NFL players and the NFL itself, many past and current players are digging deeper to find the truth and statistics continue to show how serious this problem actually is. When the lawsuits first began to come known to the public, the NFL agreed to pay over seven hundred million dollars to compensate former players suffering neurological injuries. Many believe the NFL offered this so quickly, hoping to avoid a potential public relations nightmare. The NFL, a ten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may go deeper than that though (Kacsmar). The players accused the NFL of intentional misconduct in its response to the headaches, dizziness, and other multiple signs that former players have reported ( Mega Lawsuit ). A former running back, Kevin Turner, who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), said The NFL must open its eyes to the consequences of its actions. The NFL has the power not only to give former players the care they deserve, but also to ensure that future generations of football players do not suffer the way that many in my generation have. ( Mega Lawsuit ). Many of the former and present NFL players believe that like boxing, the NFL had to be aware of the health risks associated with repetitive blows producing sub concussive and concussive results. The fact that some members of the NFL player population were at significant risk of developing long term brain damage, had to be known by the league. Players say, Despite its knowledge and controlling role in governing player conduct on and off the field, the NFL turned a blind eye to the risk and failed to warn and or impose safety regulations governing this well recognized health and safety problem. • 7. Catharsis In Night By Ele Wiesel Aristotle once hypothesized that humans were attracted to tragedy and destruction so that they can purge themselves of repressed emotions, otherwise known as catharsis. This is proved whenever someone cries over a sad or tragic moment in a book or movie. After one stops crying, they feel relief. This person might rewatch the same tragic moment or read it over and over so as to experience that feeling again. In Night by Elie Wiesel, catharsis can be shown and experienced through the many horrid situations that Elie is subjected to; however, Antigone by Sophocles may not offer the reader the same feeling that Night offers. Night, by Elie Wiesel, provides an emotional release for the reader through his vivid imagery of the conditions of the Holocaust. In one situation, Elie witnesses a boy who has the strength to play his violin even after a march that caused terror and death. As Elie falls asleep to the sound of the violin, he remarks, How could I forget this concert given before an audience of the dead and the dying? (95). This moment exhibits a moment of hope and happiness in a situation where there appears to be none. When Elie wakes up, he discovers the violin boy, Juliek, to be dead next to his broken violin. However, when Juliek is revealed to be dead, so is the hope and happiness previously felt. The sudden sadness and pity for the boy evoke a purgation of the sadness that has been building up throughout the book. Later in the book, another occurrence of happiness ... Chief Justice Rehnquist was replaced by Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice O Connor was succeeded by Justice Samuel Alito, Justice Souter preceded Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Justice Stevens was replaced by Justice Elena Kagan, and Justice Scalia was succeeded by Justice Neil Gorsuch. Predicting the current Court s position on the precedent and the possibility of overturning the Roper holding can be assessed by investigating the justices Martin Quinn scores, their individual votes on similar cases, and other sources that depict their stance on the death penalty and juvenile criminal cases. This is reinforced by Sotomayor s Martin Quinn scores becoming increasingly more liberal as the years progress (Martin and Quinn 2002). Sotomayor s increasing liberal votes prove her leniency towards punishing minors, supported by her votes for the majority and concurrence in both landmark juvenile criminal cases, Graham and Miller. The duration of the work term was spent working in the Enterprise Architecture department as a Technology Architecture Assistant, and working with the Wireless Development team as a temporary Software Tester. Working as a Technology Architecture Assistant, main responsibilities included the managing of the content within an internal department SharePoint site, aiding with the relaunching of a database synchronization process, and the updating of charts report documents for the end of the first quarter. First, the co op student was required to familiarize themselves with all the documents and lists present on the internal department SharePoint site, and propose content which should be deleted or archived due to no longer being relevant. By the end of the term, a means of identifying content to clean up was derived, and the actual action of deletion and archiving was carried out. Secondly, the student was required to studying a pre existing synchronization process that previously took place in Microsoft Access which synchronized the contents of an external database with a list in SharePoint. The worry over a big meeting that could make or break your career, or the fear of falling off the top of a cliff, are both rational and healthy fears. But when you start to worry over a simple meet up, or nothing in specific, then it s possible you have an anxiety disorder. While there are seven to eight different forms of anxiety disorders, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), which is an anxiety disorder in which one has constant, overwhelming anxiety over... everything, and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), which is an anxiety disorder where one has anxiety only over social situations (such as public speaking, parties, going to school or work, etc.) are the two most common. Despite the fact that they are often viewed as very different diagnosis, GAD and SAD have very similar symptoms, treatments, and affect near the same amount and type of people. Because GAD is a mental disorder and affects your brain, which controls everything you do, it does have some physical symptoms. These can include restlessness, a faster than average heartbeat, muscle tension, and lightheadedness. Often times, somebody with GAD will have a lack of sleep because they are worrying over the next day, and thinking over the possible negative outcomes. This keeps the brain awake , not allowing much sleep. GAD can also cause bad dreams, that could wake somebody up. One of the most significant place in this book is Shrewsbury College, an imaginative college set in University of Oxford. Therefore, Sayer constructs the story space within the Oxford community. Although the story has a lot of different setting in different places, we must aware of its representation or even symbolism in some significant places. The River Cherwell is a major tributary of the River Thames in central England. It rises from Northampton, England to Oxford, England. Then, The River Cherwell merge with The Isis which is from Oxford, England to London, England. When The Isis arrive London s territory, it is called River Thames. River first appears as a metaphor while Harriet is shrugging weather she should go back to Oxford despite the heated discussion of her rumor with Peter Wimsey. But she doubted whether she were now capable of any such withdrawal. She had long ago taken the step that put the grey walled paradise of Oxford behind her. No one can bathe in the same river twice, not even in the Isis. (Sayers 19) This is a reference to Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher meaning that you cannot step into the same river twice because you are changing and the river is changing. This is also an indication of the transformation of both characters and place. The transformation of river as Heraclitus suggests is also a symbol of changes in ideology. Her struggle on going back to Oxford or not confirms its ideology on Feminism. However, by the late 1970s flaws surfaced in the affirmative action policy. Reverse discrimination became an issue, epitomized by the Bakke case of 1978. A medical school that had accepted less qualified minority applicants had rejected Allan Bakke, a white male, two consecutive years. The school had a separate admissions policy for minorities. It reserved 16 out of 100 places for minority students. The Supreme Court voted that it was unconstitutional to set inflexible quota systems in affirmative action programs. The medical school had discriminated against a white applicant. In the same ruling, however, the Court upheld the legality of affirmative action in forms other than quota systems. In 1979 the Supreme Court reflected the Bakke decision. The Supreme Court ruled in AFO CIO v. Weber, 444 U.S. 889 that race conscious affirmative action efforts designed to eliminate a conspicuous racial imbalance in an employer s workforce resulting from past discrimination was permissible, as long as the actions were temporary and did not violate the rights of white employees. College admission imbalances have resurfaced as a problem for affirmative action. Recently, the Smith v. University of Washington case upheld the university s affirmative action program, although the program could no longer be used after the passage of Initiative 200 in 1998. In 1994 T Mobile, with the name of VoiceStream Wireless PCS, was established by John Stanton. In 2011 T Mobile was in financial trouble and was looking to be purchased by AT T. The deal was struck down by the US Department of Justice because it would lessen the competition in the market. In early 2012 John Legere became CEO and the rebranding started. T Mobile then went on to acquire MetroPCS Communication in October 2012 to broaden their customer base and increase prepaid service revenue. John Legere then introduced contract free pricing in 2013 which then forced the big guys (Verizon and AT T) to follow suit. There is also the idea that America shouldn t be involved in foreign affairs as a whole, due to its moral and economic effect upon the country. Recognizing this important marketing fact, alcohol companies deliberately devise ads designed to appeal to heavy drinkers. The heavy user of alcohol is usually an addict. Another interesting perspective on the industry s claim that it only advertises to encourage moderate drinking to those of age, is that if this were true, and only the 105 million drinkers of legal age in the US consumed the official maximum moderate amount of alcohol, .99 ounces or roughly two drinks, a day the industry would suffer a 40 percent decrease in the sale of beer, wine, and distilled spirits. Meaning that if alcohol companies truly only targeted who they claim they do, they would only be nearly cutting their profits in half. Besides the heavy drinkers, the young audience plays a great deal to the alcohol industry. It is no wonder alcohol is appealing to the youth when ads only display very healthy, attractive, and youthful looking people. For example, with oncology, GWAS was performed and able to identify approximately 450 genetic variants that are related to the risks, as well as provided proof of polygenic susceptibility. This review targeted on the functional basis and gene structure of cancer susceptibility. Regarding cancer, there s a pattern of relative risk or RR, that s high in relatives of patients who experienced early onset cancer. Some risks in first degree relatives of patients accrued from twofold to threefold. Leukemia and testicular cancers are exceptions where the RR were accrued from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were two classes of cancer susceptibility variants identified. First one was the rare moderate penetrance variants that were known through the candidate genes, which had a risk allele frequency of less than 2%. An example of this would be when other genes encoded proteins in the DNA damage, which is associated with breast cancer risk. The second one would be the common low penetrance alleles, which had risk allele frequency less than 5%. This reflected upon the various subgroups of risk alleles that were detected. GWAS compared the frequency of common DNA variations with healthy individuals. Figure 2 showed the performance of DNA samples that were taken. The controls and patients DNA samples were genotyped using genome platforms that analyzed genetic variations in single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). There should be a match between the patients and controls to attenuate the false positive associations. To minimize them, statistical thresholds like Bonferroni correction is used. Bonferroni correction is a common threshold for genome wide significance of a P value that is less than 0.00000005, or a 5% significance level for millions of tests. The threshold is used for sequencing studies or genome imputation of ten million variants, assuming that linkage disequilibrium would be equivalent to a million independent tests. Also, the imputation of genotypes by sequenced panels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Importance Of Restorative Justice Last year in Chicago, there were nearly 800 homicides that took place throughout the city and that is just Chicago alone! Imagine what the numbers would be like if you added up all the homicides that took place in each state throughout the United States. It would be outrageous and that would only be for our 50 states, it does not include other countries around our world. Crime rates are skyrocketing and something needs to be done. For some of these offenders, receiving a harsh punishment and being put in jail makes them realize what they have done and makes them want to better themselves once they get out. On the other hand, other offenders serve their time, get released, and go right back to their old ways, the ways that put them in jail in the first place. Punishment does not seem to work for everyone; therefore a new approach must be put into action, this approach being restorative justice. Restorative justice is a groundbreaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Restorative justice can take place in places such as police stations, courtrooms, and prisons. Many of the restorative justice programs take place in prisons because it relates to the victim offender relationship. I believe a good place for restorative justice within the criminal justice system is in prisons because the prisoners have nothing else to do so it is a good time for them to focus on that practice and keep busy because there is much time to be dedicated to mending their offender (RJ in the Criminal Justice System). But an even better process for restorative practice would be outside of the criminal justice system in places such as schools, workplaces, faith communities, families, and communities. Being somewhere outside of the criminal justice system gives the victim and offender more privacy and makes them feel more comfortable which can help a lot when expressing and coping with their ... • 34. Insanity of War in Slaughterhouse Five Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., is the tale of a gawky World War II veteran/soldier, Billy Pilgrim. His wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is unexplainable. To portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical and science fiction. The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic and tragic elements. The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden are contrasted by many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of Tralfamadore is, in truth, an outlet for Vonnegut to show his incredibly serious fatalistic views. The surprising variations of the seriousness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One soldier dies from the dry heaves after being forced to work in a rotting corpse mine. Ironically, this man has survived the bombing of Dresden, yet dies from the smell of others who died in the bombing. Eventually, the corpse mines are closed because of the horrendous conditions, and the war ends. The book ends as Billy is walking out of the slaughterhouse after gaining his freedom and he notices is that, Birds were talking. One bird said to Billy Pilgrim, Poo tee weet? The bird s cameo in the story reinforces the idea that there is nothing to say about an unnecessary massacre as in Dresden, and that war is illogical, like the bird s words. This is ironic, since the theme of the novel, which should be the clearest message derived from the story, is summed up in the incoherent words of a bird. All these incidences of irony show senselessness and coincidence, with undertones of dark humor. [In questioning why the incidences of the novel occur, it is impossible to give a logical explanation.] This parallels the idea that war is nonsense, senseless, full of coincidence, and is unexplainable. As a result of the trauma of Billy s war experience, he faces an inability to deal with reality later in his life. The fantastical Tralfamadore is a planet where Billy escapes to when he feels life s stresses; however mad Billy seems to have become, Tralfamadore doubles to reveal Vonnegut s earnest fatalistic views. Tralfamadore is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
