Analysis Of Concerto For Violin And Cello
Concerto for Violin and Cello, Op.102 (Brahms, Johannes)
First movement Allegro.
The concert begins with an orchestral tutti of four measures that outlines the eventual main theme of
the movement; the cello collects the last three notes and launches forward in an impassive and
unaccompanied recitative, but at the right time, as indicated. The wooden instruments gently present
the second motif (in major key), which is taken by the violins, who in turn develop it in the form of a
rhapsody before they join the cello in an extensive dialogue. Only after this does the course of the first
movement finally begin.
The main reasons are widely contrasted in character, being the first challenging and passionate and the
second warmly lyrical. Between both, in the initial presentation of the orchestra of this material,
appears a hectic and syncopated figure, which can be heard later. Both motifs are then re exposed by
the soloists on their own terms before leading to a brief development and recapitulation section. At the
end of this movement the tonality of return to minor.
Second movement Andante.
A horn touch in ascending fourth, with an answer in the wooden instruments, becomes the first four
notes of the main theme of the Andante , a broad melody sung by the two soloists in octaves. When
the melody ceases, there is an abrupt change of tone that provided pure pleasure and the wooden
instruments offer a new and exciting theme, trumpet plays the two notes that mark the

Reasons For Pe Being An Important Part Of The National...
The foundation subjects in the national curriculum comprise of history, geography, modern foreign
languages, physical education (PE), religious education, art and design, citizenship, computing, design
and technology and music (DFE 2013, p7).
All the foundation subjects have a place on the National Curriculum; however, for the purposes of this
essay we will be focussing on the reasons for PE being an important part of the National Curriculum.
The National Curriculum (DFE 2013, p5) states that every state funded school must offer a curriculum
which is balanced and broadly based and which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and
physical development of pupils at the school and of society and, prepares pupils at the school for
opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life .
It aims to give children the knowledge that that they need to be educated citizens and gives an outline
of the core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and creative lessons to promote
pupils knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum (DFE 2013, p6).
The key aims of PE on the national curriculum focusses on a healthy lifestyle developing competence
across several physical activity areas and for children to be active for sustained periods of time and
encouraging children to engage in competitive activities and sports (Smith 2014. P213).
At Key Stage 1 the national curriculum states that pupils should develop fundamental

Bristol-Myers Squibb Vrio Analysis Essay
VRIO Analysis
Bristol Myers Squibb and other pharmaceutical companies have very limited space for the
development of competitive advantage. This is due to the limitations set in patents available for new
pharmaceuticals. Most chemicals in pharmaceutical products have an equivalently functional
substitute making it possible to have multiple products on the market that have identical uses and
outcomes. This being the case, pharmaceutical companies can t rely on one particular product to
provide competitive advantage.

Since Bristol Myers Squibb s is organized in this way, it has been able to keep the pace very well
making it one of the largest research based pharmaceutical company in the world.
Brand Name
Bristol Myers Squibb s gains competitive parity from its brand name in that it has a good reputation
for creating products that work well and are safe. This provides value to the customer because they
know that the product was heavily researched before it was marketed to the general public.
However, this is not rare among firms in this industry as all new products must be cleared by the Food
and Drug Administration before it can be marketed which gives consumers a certain amount of
security when choosing a product regardless of who produced it. This also means that it is somewhat
easy to imitate. Once you get past the start up costs, if you produce a product that is not already
patented and is approved by the FDA, your product is just as good as the competitors. The reason for
the lack of rarity and ease of imitability of the brand name is that, like other pharmaceutical
companies, Bristol Myers Squibb does not push the brand name but rather the name they have
assigned to their product. The company s name does not appear in any of its product s advertisements.
This being the case they must diversify their product line.
Product Diversity
Since researching new pharmaceutical products takes a great deal of time, the only way to keep the

Rhetorical Devices Used In Alice In Wonderland
The Many Meanings of Alice in Wonderland Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the
Looking Glass, written by acclaimed British author Lewis Carroll, have enchanted people young and
old since their publications. Mr. Carroll uses many rhetorical devices to enhance these two fairytales
including but by no means limited to irony, symbolism, theme, metaphor, alliteration, and ambiguity.
Many types of irony are used throughout Alice s Adventures in Wonderland in particular. One example
of a particular form of ambiguity seen frequently is the use of homophones. Homophones are words
that sound the same but have different meanings such as air and heir . Alice encounters this variety of
obscurity first in chapter three after she has fallen down that fateful rabbit hole. Situational irony in
this story begins when Alice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter three, Alice and several animals including a mouse, a duck, a dodo, a lorry, and an eaglet
were soaking wet after escaping the sea of tears that Alice had previously cried. When discussing how
they were to get dry again, Mouse spoke up. This is the driest thing I know. he said. Mouse then began
to speak in a monotonous tone about William the Conqueror and other dull or dry things. (Wollner)
Since this was obviously unable to get the group out of their soggy state, Dodo suggested that they run
a Caucus race. A caucus in politics is similar to a political party, and a race is a contest between
people, in this case for votes. The caucus race in this fairytale is a literal race course in which There
was no One, two, three, and away! but they began running when they liked, and left off when they
liked, so that it was not easy to know when the race was over. . When Dodo decided that the race was
over, he awarded prizes to everyone. This use of ambiguity pokes fun at the political caucuses and
elections of Lewis Carroll s time period.

The test revealed, for instance, people with my type (the Logician) can be insensitive and
condescending. I am sure that this is a complete shock to everyone who has ever met me. This test
said that Logicians have immense difficulty with emotions, to the point where Emotional situations
can be utterly bewildering to Logicians, and their lack of timely sympathy can easily offend others.

The During The American Revolution
During the early American Revolution, Boston was a place where at the time colonies could not find
peace. After gaining their independence from the French and Indian war, they had been put so far in
debt that the British began taxing them to pay it off. The colonies were so angry about these taxes that
they began to revolt against them. They were angry because these decisions were made without their
consent, they didn t have any one to speak for them in the parliament. All the revolts on taxes like the
sugar act, tea act, and stamp act lead to the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773. A big group of
Bostonians marched to the Boston Harbor and threw 340 chests of tea into the water. As a response of
this, British passed the Coercive Acts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the coercive acts, they demanded to have a meeting with the British. At the First Continental
Congress in Pennsylvania from September 5 to October 26, 1774 representatives from 12 of the 13
colonies met to try to persuade the British to recognize their rights. This resulted in them letting the
colonies to the rights of life, liberty, property, and the right to establish their own taxes within the
colonies. This calmed it down a little but the British kept Sending troops to Boston making them mad.
They were determined. Determination and hope led them to win the revolution because they found a
way to keep the colonies up and strong throughout the whole time. The provincial congress members
had met up to discuss the colonies. He turned from ... lectures of caution and prudence to asserting and
defending the most bold and undisguised principles of liberty, and defying in their very teeth the
agents of the crown. The Bostonians weren t afraid to disobey their mother country and fight for their
new country. Even though they were considered British people in America, they had never seen or
gone to the other side of the Atlantic. Therefore, the Americas was there home and they were
determined to fight for its independence and get away from the British.
The American Revolution was started from a spark that was ignited in Boston. It was led to be an
American victory because of Boston s endless hope of winning the war

Legality Ethicality of Financial Accounting
Legality and Ethicality of Financial Reporting Accounting professionals consider standard practices of
accounting and board of accountancy rules when creating ethical standards. Accountants also consider
state and federal laws. Ethics and the law works hand in hand therefore should be on the minds of
those considering the commission of fraud. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Excello, Terry Reed,
was considering doing such by posting a $2.1 million transaction to raise year end earnings. Terry
Reed, CFO of Excello, committed the unethical practices in this case. Reed had considered the $2.1
million transaction to collect the earnings from a sale that was not to occur until January 2011. By
posting the transaction in December 2010, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of three things can happen in the Excello case. First, Reed may transfer the merchandise to an off
site location and record the sale at the end of 2010 because there is no violation of Excello s shipping
rules and GAAP standards (Mintz, 2011). Second, Reed can transfer the merchandise to the customer
and promise a refund to the customer s account after 2010 report filing (Mintz, 2011). Like the first,
this option is also unethical. Besides manipulating the financial reports, these choices post a risk for
Excello that the sale may never fruition. Both options allow the customer to return the goods after
Excello posts the revenue, thus violating the GAAP s revenue recognition principle. Third, Excello
could offer the customer a 10% discount to purchase the merchandise before December 31, 2010. This
option being the most ethical decision because no fraudulent activity occurs. The employees who are
acting unethically in this case are Terry Reed, CFO, and Marty Fuller, controller of Excello. Fuller is
covering the bases by calling meetings with the accounting staff and requesting that the merchandise
sell and post according to the GAAP standards. Fuller is being unethical by trying to get around the
GAAP and AICPA codes. Reed is unethical because he requests the accounting department to find
ways around the rules to increase the 2010 earnings by posting a sales transaction before the revenue

Essay about Mary Paul s Letters
Essay Assignment: Market Revolution
During the nineteenth century, America went through a number of social, economic and political
changes. Revolutions in manufacturing and commerce led to substantial economic growth. Several
cultural movements reformed American society. Mary Paul, once just a normal girl from Vermont, led
a life that was shaped by the changes of the 1800 s. The information gathered from Mary Paul s letters
to her father make it clear that Mary s life experiences turned her into anything but an average woman.
However, in the scope of the economic and cultural reforms of the nineteenth century, Mary Paul
represents the average American. Before the Marketing Revolution, women had a very limited role in
society. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, Mary Paul s pursuit of success and happiness takes her in a different direction. She begins
to show dissatisfaction with Lowell after working there for only a month. She describes the dangers of
working at the mill, one girl fell down and broke her neck... The same day a man was killed by cars.
Another had nearly all of his ribs broken. Another was nearly killed by falling down and having a bale
of cotton fall on him. Safety was one reason that Mary began to have doubts about working at Lowell.
She also writes, I am very tired tonight... If I thought I could make a decent living at C[laremont] I
would come back there. The aspects of working at Lowell that once fascinated Mary Paul no longer fit
her needs and desires. In a fashion similar to how the Market Revolution changed her definitions of
happiness and success, a new revolution soon changed these definitions again. During the nineteenth
century several cultural reforms occurred in America. Some movement encouraged individualism,
while others encouraged communalism. In general, these movements served to counter the growth of
capitalism during the Marketing Revolution. Many reformers set up utopian societies, in which they
would lead their reformed lives. Charles Fourier was a reformed who was against the system of labor
for wages. In response to the capitalist waged labor, he created groups called phalanxes. The members

As I Lay Dying Language Analysis
In As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner effectively uses linguistic abnormalities to challenge the potency
of language. This produces an overarching idea on the cyclic nature of mortality and its ultimate
nihilistic significance. To unite these otherwise restricted concepts, the novel requires an unusual
relationship between its characters and the author. This relationship is only complicated by the delicate
nature of mortality. Thus, Faulkner antagonizes the limitations of language and challenges words to
convey more significance than their flat definitions. Faulkner overcomes the boundaries of language
by stream of consciousness. This allows him to encompass contemporary artistry and cultural
phenomena. Therefore, the novel s unique construction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its linguistic complexities seem unnecessary and flawed. This effect is produced because of the novel
s twisted humor and structures such as unexplained italicized paragraphs, a pictogram of a coffin
(Faulkner 88), sporadic punctuation, and a line of blank space (Faulkner 173). These things make the
novel seem chaotic and even contradictory. Regardless of its complexity, these linguistic abnormalities
are necessary to explicate the novel s purpose: the insignificance of life and death. This attitude is
apparent only because of stream of consciousness, artistry, and cultural diction. Stream of
consciousness unifies the narrators and the author. This change in scope produces a more intimate
understanding of each character. For example, it allows for Addie s postmortem narration. Thus,
stream of consciousness operates as a fundamental platform for the novel s purpose. Similarly, the
surrealist and cubist point of view heightens the dark comedy of mortality. The unification of these
two perspectives the symmetry of cubism and the cynical surrealism creates Dewey Dell: the mirror
and product of Addie s suppressed station. Just as Addie never wanted her children, Dewey Dell
attempts to have an abortion. Upon Addie s death, the novel s dark humor comes full circle: Dewey
Dell is made a motherless mother and left a child with child. This cynical creation is only possible
because of the reader s context in cubism and

Kaloona s Perfect Plan to Save her Planet
A darkness. An absolute darkness accompanied with deathly silence. Just somewhere from a distance
is heard a baby crying. Kaloona immediately knew, why the darkness clouded her planet. She went in
tears to the balcony, looked up to the sky and quietly cried: I failed. I could not protect Balathron the
light of life. Now our planet will die and all people with it. Mummy, please forgive me. Kaloona felt
hopelessly, but she knew, she must do something very quickly to save her planet and her nation.
Suddenly was born a perfect plan in her mind. General Tarkhan, can you come to my room, please?
she said with determination in her voice into the communication device. In a few minutes General
knocked on her door. Yes, her Majesty. I and all my soldiers are ready and waiting for your permission

Racial Differences In Georgia
Racial differences in social and economic outcomes all play a major role in the discrimination that we
witness in the book. Once the New York boys arrived in Georgia, they witnessed the southern racism
for the first time. In Georgia, the New York boys were marginalized. They were degraded, due to
Georgians classification of the New York boys as blacks. When Gus visited Warm Springs, he didn t

in contradiction, while in Georgia they too discriminated other black men, and women. Contreras
stated, These Dominican men wanted to prove whiteness to reach a fictitious higher racial and moral

Iranian Society Is Not A Country Of Fundamentalists And...
Iranian society is more complexed than what its face value portrays. The west tends to attach negative
associations with Iran and the rest of the middle east. The author writes that the purpose of her book is
to show that Iran is not a country of fundamentalists and terrorists, and that characterizations of the
country by the West are inaccurate. Satrapi s narrative does the Iranian society justice. It explains the
common misconceptions of Iran and its society by a first hand account, Marjane Satrapi. In the 1980 s,
politics was everything in Iran, it was the main topic of conversation. As a ten year old girl, the author
is forced to wear a veil to school by those that called for a cultural revolution in Iran. There are many
protests both for and against this cultural revolution. Her French non religious school is abolished and
boys and girls are separated for education. Her mother protests against the changes and her picture
appears in newspapers across Europe (8). Marjane s father explains the history of the Revolution to
her: Reza Shah had been a foot soldier fighting against the King of Persia in order to install a republic.
This had been during a time when Western democratic ideals were being instituted in many countries
around the world. The British had learned of Reza Shah s desire to overthrow the king and, seeing an

Power Of Artificial Intelligence
The power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is growing at an alarmingly dangerous rate and has the
potential to take over the world if we do not come together as a whole and put regulations on the
usage of it. Artificial Intelligence is defined as The capability of a machine to imitate intelligent
human behavior (Merriam Webster). As we know Artificial intelligence now, it is fairly simple for the
uses that we have for it, such as SIRI on Apple devices, AI controlled video game opponents, and
Google s search algorithms predicting what you are going to type into its search bar. That is only the
beginning of Artificial Intelligence s many capabilities. Global militaries are researching and
developing technology for war that uses AI, car manufacturers are teaching AI how to drive cars by
itself, IBM uses its AI creation Watson to help businesses make decisions and grow, and thousands of
other major companies and powerful nations are using it in many unique ways. It contains many
different unique parts, but the main uses are: Learning, Reasoning, Perception, Reasoning, Problem
solving, and using Natural Language (Copeland 2017). We need to regulate or eliminate the use of AI
in war around the globe, stabilize the economy after implementation of AI, and reduce or eliminate the
inequality caused by it. AI controlled killing machines used in warfare, sounds cool, right? They might
sound like quite the sight to see, but what happens when they become smart enough and decide to turn
against the people who created them and are using them for their own gain? How do we stop them?
That is one question that many people have, but none seemed to know the answer. What are the ethics
behind using robots to kill people? For example, is it not just as bad as a government that has chemical
weapons, that uses them against people that do not? None of the government s forces are harmed, yet
thousands of people are harmed and killed from the weapons, and it only takes one fighter jet and pilot
to drop the bomb. It is the same with the AI controlled robots, they could be deployed halfway across
the world, yet be controlled by someone on the complete other side of earth, without any threat of
danger or harm. We need regulations like

Refugee Settlement As A Refugee Camp
The displaced populaces in camps are provided with help and security as a feature of the UNHCR s
command and as a partner with the host government to keep them amassed in one region(Kobia and
Cranfield, 2009).
There is always a distinction between urban refugees and camp dwellers when analyzing the
situation. There is also the dilemma of whether to consider establishments such as detention centers or
collective settlements as refugee camps or not.The characteristics of judging or analyzing a camp to be
opened , closed ,semi opened or non existing at all, is also an important factor to put in mind. The
refugees development of their new urban context , their daily movements and their experience within
the space, is what might lead us to comparing a refugee settlement as any urban settlement, rather than
a temporary solution (Dora ̈ı,2010).
2.4.2 The understanding of a refugee camp.
For one to understand the base of camp establishments , One of the key factors is the topic of how the
governmental issues of character converge with the legislative issues of space.Camps far and wide
contrast extraordinarily, and the purposes behind their dissimilarities are to be found in the ways that
the legislative issues of asylum meet with the governmental issues of their basic rights of returning or

Why Our Brain s False Memory
Have you ever remembered something that you were 100% positive actually happened, when indeed
did not happened at all? According to scientists, the occurrence of such false memories is quite
common, so you re not alone. The question of why our brain creates these false memories, has not
been answered yet, but is not a fact. This in fact happened to a young boy named Jim. Jim, had a vivid
flashbulb memory from his childhood of a day his parents won the lottery. He remembered everything
about that day, where he was sitting, and what board game he and his siblings were playing when they
heard the news. Recently, Jim discovered that he was completely wrong about what happened that day
and none of those things actually happened.
As your eyes and ears are taking light and sound they are being turned into electronic signals to the
brain, which has to construct a version of what is being seen to makes sense. Memory is an integrated
constructive process that is constantly refining, rebuilding, reconstructing, and finding any types of
short cuts, and it sometimes make mistakes. Examples how your brain can misinterpret what it s
seeing are things such as, optical illusions, blind spots, and hallucinations. ... Show more content on

compelled to carry a pistol with him at all times. This is because Diego s political views are very
strong and known of, so he felt it would protect him from right winged students. Diego is a strong

How Mourad Mazouz Started his Restaurant, Sketch
In 2001, just after signing the lease for 9 Conduit Street, London a Grade II listed building Mourad
Mazouz went to Paris. Not yet knowing what he would do inside he went on a mission to find a chef
to collaborate with. Mazouz was already a reputable and successful restaurateur with his celebrated
restaurants Au Bascou and 404 in Paris as well as Momo in London. The listed townhouse was
designed as the private residence of James Viner by James Wyatt in 1779. After that it filled many
roles over the years including being converted into the headquarters of Royal Society of British
Architects (RIBA) from 1887 1909. In 1954 it became Christian Dior s first boutique where Dior
stored his collections in London.
In Paris Mazouz set up a meeting with Pierre Gagnaire, My plan was to ask if he had someone in mind
in his kitchen for this venture, but he said, Why not me? I freaked out, I had not planned to work with
a master. But I said, That s great!
It reminded Gagnaire of Saint Étienne where his restaurant had gone bankrupt during the recession of
the early 1990s. Mazouz later elaborated His restaurant was doing molecular food before anyone else,
so for me the story of Sketch, and our friendship, started with his old restaurant. He s told me a few
times since, that for him, Sketch is like a revenge: while it couldn t work in Saint Étienne, it could in
London.
Spanning two floors of this building, Sketch contains a tearoom, two bars and three restaurants as well

Income Inequality Essay
Income Inequality Among Developing Countries and Their Relations To The Affluent World
On September 25th of 2015, the United Nations adopted a comprehensive initiative to combat a wide
variety of global health issues that currently plague humanity. The initiative, entitled UN Sustainable
Development Goals includes a list of seventeen goals to be achieved over the next fifteen years and
encompasses measures to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. This paper
intends to provide an in depth analysis of the tenth UN
Sustainable Development Goal: Reducing income inequalities.
Income inequality is a problematic reality of the modern era that slows economic growth, generates
political instability, causes health problems and creates severe social inequalities among children. As
part of this analysis, determinants of this global issue will be discussed as well as its correlation with
globalization. Lastly, suggestions will be provided to the global community with regards to possible
solutions to income inequality, as well as a discussion about the potential roles and responsibilities for
Canadians in response to the issue.
Although many milestones have been reached on the road to eradicate mass poverty, a large disparity
still exists, otherwise known as income inequality. The issue currently pertains to the rich and poor. It
is illustrated among a macroeconomic level (between countries), as well as a microeconomic level
(within countries).

Rosalind Franklin Dna Replication
Because of her discovery of the B form of DNA, recognition that two states of the
DNA molecule existed and defined the conditions for the transition, essentially being literally only
two steps away from discovering the structure of DNA herself, Rosalind
Franklin deserved to be a co winner of the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize Nobel Prize in
Medicine for elucidating the structure of DNA in such a way that the mechanism for genetic
replication was revealed. The x ray, or photograph that James Watson, Francis
Crick and Maurice Wilkins used, and was extremely viable in all three of their research, was a direct
result of work carried out by Rosalind Franklin while at King s College in
London. Instead, the three men received the recognition and Rosalind ... Show more content on

From these photographs, or x rays, she was able to draw a logical conclusion to the basic dimensions
of DNA strands. Rosalind actually presented these findings at a lecture in King s College at which one
of the eventual Prize winners, James Watson, were in attendance. Franklin tried to figure out how the
double helix worked but wasn t able to. Without her permission,
Franklin s co worker, Maurice Wilkins, secretly showed her photos to the American scientist Watson.
He and Francis Crick, his British research partner, were trying to build a DNA model. When Watson
saw the photographs, he realized that DNA is a double stranded helix and the two were able to
complete the model.
In 1953, the same year Rosalind left Cambridge, both Wilkins and Franklin published papers on their
X ray data in the same journal issue with Watson and Crick s paper on the structure of DNA. Neither
published paper gave credit to the photo that would eventually help, if not become the breakthrough

The Use of Biometrics
There have been use of Biometrics which can be traced as far back to 500 BC, but where does its
future lay in the 21st century and beyond? Exactly what is Biometrics and its proposed applications;
will it truly be as useful or will it be a hindrance? Currently, which nations along with the international
corporations are in the market for such a medium and who are the pioneers, trying to advance
Biometrics; into something more streamlined? Will Biometrics truly have as much of an impact on the
digital industry as predicted? Or is it all hype? Lastly, what are the advantages and disadvantages
when applying Biometrics in today s world?
What do we define as biometrics, is it something which can be emulated by another being or is it
absolutely unique to one s self that it can never be copied and disturbed for others to use? By
definition, Biometrics is derived from the Greek words bio meaning life and metrics meaning to
measure. By today s standards, Biometrics uses cutting edge technologies to identify terrorists and
criminals. (Nadeau) Many revolutionary ideas regarding Biometrics have been based on ideas which
were originally conceived hundreds, maybe even thousands of years ago. Since the early days of man,
we have been practicing to distinguish other humans based on intrinsic physical or behavioral traits.
Early Babylonian and Chinese merchants kept records of: fingerprints, palm prints, and even
footprints to manage business transactions and census records.

The Virginity Pledge
The Virginity Pledge We live in a society today that tolerates and accepts many things Catholics would
classify as gravely sinful or morally wrong . The act of fornification and homosexual acts are both
mortal sins that most Catholics commit. At a very young age, the principle of marital sex between a
husband and wife is instilled into the minds of children. Growing up in a religious home, I was taught
that sex is an important and sacred matter that only married couples could partake in. Like many
others, I rejected and frowned upon pre marital sex. However, after reading an article about a person s
experiences, I finally understood that no one should dictate your life specifically, what you do with
your body. The eye opening article

`` Defiance `` By Edward Zwick
Based on a true story, Defiance, directed by Edward Zwick, is an extraordinary and insightful tale
about the lives of three brothers that take refuge in the woods for survival against the Nazis. In the
beginning, their main goal was to keep alive by also avenging the deaths of their parents, however as
the movie progresses, their mission turns into something far more bigger. They began to find other
Jews who come hoping to join them in their quest for survival, while looking to them as their leaders.
The film entails only a few scenes of their battles against the Nazis, and the drama of the story tends to
be focused on the conflicts and romances that arise within the Jews. The brothers are Tuvia Bielski,
Zus Bielski, and Asael. Tuvia and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I enjoyed the fact that the setting of the story is different unlike other movies. Instead of it being
fixated on the lives of the Jews living in concentration camps or the ghettos, there setting takes place
outside in the forest where they have to take on even more problems and adapt themselves to nature s
environment. The Jews had to start from the bottom, but eventually they created an efficient and
resilient community. They were forced to build shelters out of material such as wood and tree stems
found in the forest. The refugees organized leadership roles by the various skills of the Jews. Most
were skilled craftsmen, artisans, and laborers, but soon became fighters and soldiers, gun cleaners, and
shoemakers. Women were deemed the task of preparing the meals, and keeping up with the children.
They also had the impossible task of having to find weapons and ammunition to survive.
Along with their environmental situations, the Jews were faced with the problem of lack of food. With
their group continuously growing, they turned to stealing food from other farmers in the area. This
was a good plan at first, however they had to take the chance that the farmers would tell the Germans
about their encounters. At some point, food was so scarce that people became tumultuous towards one
another. You could see how humans reacted when put under these unthinkable situations. Men started

The Role Of Social Norms In Jerzy Kosinski s
Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There depicts how social norms affect the socialization of individuals
and displays individuals ability to alter their presentation of self within particular situations. Kosinski
plays with symbolism and the power of names by presenting the character Chance, who self identifies
himself as the gardener, and who acquired his name by being born by chance. Chance, renamed as
Chauncey Gardiner by his peers, has limited social and communication skills due to being bound to
his home with the Old Man, who took him in from birth. Chance now acting as Chauncey takes on the
social role of an upper class, intelligent, business man, prompting him to be thrown into the world of
politics with the elite. Surprisingly, Chance is able to successfully play the role of Chauncey as he is

This miscommunication was caused by Chance s attempt to follow social cues and mirror the actions
he saw depicted on television. Although he did not always understand social situations fully, Chance s
ability to adapt to the change in his social environment is due to the skills and norms he learned from
watching television at the Old Man s home. Despite a few moments of confusion, Chance acting as
Chauncey was able to convince those around him that he was a businessman with insight on
economics, not that he was just faking it. The character Chance takes on the public role of Chauncey

Cost-Benefit Analysis of Arbitration
Cost benefit analysis of arbitration
Introduction
Arbitration is legal technique used to resolve any disputes outside of the courts. Arbitration allows for
speedy and cheap resolution of any disputes, the parties involved in a dispute agree to appoint a third
person (arbitrator) who will hear their testimonies, and look into the evidence they provide. The
arbitrator s decision cannot be challenged in a law court as it is considered final and the parties
involved have to accept the decision (Brams Merrill, 1986). There are only very limited circumstances
where the decision of an arbitrator can be challenged, and this is mostly if there can be proof from one
of the parties showing that the arbitrator was biased in their decision or ruling. The chosen arbitrator
will be an experienced person in the area of the dispute.
Arbitration Costs
The costs involved in normal arbitration are minimal and the amount of time the arbitrator takes in
order to reach a decision is short as compared to normal litigation cases. The costs are minimal as
there is no need for judges and juries to be involved. Some arbitration decisions may drag on for
longer just as the normal litigation cases, and this would increase the costs incurred in preparation for
the arbitration. The arbitrator s fees vary depending on the amounts involved in the suite and also the
country where the arbitration will take place. Considering that the deals the firm is signing are for $1
million then the fees will be

The Education Of Cyrus S
The Education of Cyrus Many people look at good leaders and wonder what made them great.
Xenophon was one such person. He looked at the legendary leader, Cyrus of Persia, and presented him
as the best leader the world had ever seen. Cyrus could rule over humans as easily as other men ruled
sheep and livestock. He was seen as just and honorable as he lavished things on his compatriots
generously. But although he acted just and honorable his motives were far from good. He used
manipulation to gain power for himself on many instances. His extravagant generosity, which was so
highly praised, was used for only his own gain. Cyrus true nature can be seen from a very young age.
At first glance Cyrus seemed to be a wonderful child, someone very obedient and loving. He
constantly served his mother and grandfather, eager to gratify them in anyway within his power. As
much as he looks like a boy with a good, generous heart doing what will make others happy there is an
underlying greed in the young boy. Cyrus is also described as most ambitious and one who endured
every labor for the sake of being praised . The young boy diligently learned how to do everything
exceedingly well and he worked on what he knew he was bad at in order to improve in order that he
could receive praise. However, he did these things so that others would praise him. His greed first
manifested itself in a greed for praise and attention, rather than simply to be generous. The greatest
example of Cyrus greed

Jabberwocky Tone
Throughout Lewis Carroll s Jabberwocky , his proficiency in the nonsense genre of poetry is evident.
The poem is set in the same fantasy world as Alice in Wonderland. Carroll exhibits the use of childlike
diction and uses the perspective of a father escorting his young son. Jabberwocky exhibits peculiar,
infantile diction. The poem consists of informal diction, characteristic of the fantasy world it takes
place in. Carroll uses words that are characteristic of a young child s vocabulary. He uses words that
do not exist, characteristic of the nonexistent, illogical world of Carroll s imagination. He also
employs the heavy use of alliteration to enhance certain words throughout the poem. Carroll writes:
So he rested by the Tumtum tree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the poem, the poem is calm and peaceful. As the stanzas change, so does the tone.
The second stanza s tone is one of concern as the father cautions his son regarding the beasts of the
area. The father warns Beware the Jabberwock, my son! (5). The tone then reverts to one of calm in
the following stanza, as Carroll shows the boy stopping to rest by a tree. A drastic shift in the tone
occurs as the jabberwocky emerges to where the boy rests, changing it from a serene, almost
monotonous tone to an exhilarating one marked by a clash between the jabberwocky and the boy.
Carroll writes, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, came whiffling through the tulgey wood (14 15).
The jabberwocky is depicted as a fierce beast, changing the tone from a calm one to a more violent
one. Once the battle is over and the boy stands triumphant over the powerful beast, the tone of the
poem shifts to a jovial and congratulatory one. The father expresses his praise to his son for
conquering the beast. The father exclaims, Come to my arms, my beamish boy! (22). He is ecstatic
about his son s triumph over the jabberwocky and the tone reflects the father s sentiments. Finally, the
poem reverts to the tone of the beginning: one of calm and peace. Carroll s utilization of tone shifts
throughout the entire poem keeps the reader on their heels. The constant shifts allow the reader to
remain entertained and engaged with the poem. The constant shift in tone used by Carroll is
characteristic of a mountain climb. The tone begins as a peaceful, normal one then escalates into one
of violence as the clash against the jabberwocky ensues, then reverts back to the peaceful tone
expressed at the beginning. The constant variability of the poem s tone mirrors that of the actual story,
one that starts slow, quickly escalates, and then recedes to exactly the same place the poem began

September 13, 1996 was the day Tupac Shakur was said to be dead. Many people claim he is still alive

and looking for his whereabouts. The night of the shooting Tupac was riding with another star named

Tupac renamed his publishing company from Ghetto Gospel Music to Joshua s Dream. This was more

Young Woman By Ella Thomas Essay
Another young woman, Ella Thomas, described her pregnancy in a manner that further complicates
interpreting historical pregnancy. While having a miscarriage, Ella describes herself as sick but does
not appear to be bothered by the event. Despite experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, Ella does not
describe her pregnancy within these terms. If anything, she finds her symptoms a nuisance (Thomas).
Furthermore, her own pregnancy has led her to sympathize with other pregnant women. She mentions
in the diary that if she had sole management of a plantation that pregnant women would be highly
favored...whether black of white (Thomas). The distinction of sole management here is fascinating
because it implies that her husband would not be in charge in this case, and that if he were in charge
he would be less likely to show favor to pregnant women because he personally could not understand
the experience (Thomas).
Eventually, Ella becomes worried for her health when more serious symptoms begin to manifest. Her
symptoms are so severe that she they frighten [her] with fears of sickness and cause her to call for her
doctor. She notes however, that her physician Dr. Edward Eve does nothing to help her or to alleviate
her symptoms. Days later, her pregnancy miscarries, which she colloquially refers to as an abortion

Lab Report On Gram-Negative Bacteria
In the world of microbiology it is vitally important to be able to discern the identities of
microorganisms. Not only is it important in a lab setting but as well as in healthcare in general.
Properly identify what strain of bacteria a person has will aid in the proper medicine and dose given.
Throughout the semester we have learned about different types of bacteria and certain test that can
clearly identify them. The purpose of this lab report is to identify a Gram positive or Gram negative
bacterium. Using all the knowledge of procedures and lab techniques identify the unknown and
discuss all the tests you performed.
Introduction
Gram staining is a technique used to determine if the bacteria is Gram positive or Gram negative.
Gram staining procedure uses crystal violet stain, iodine moderator, alcohol decolorizer and safarin
counter stain. In Gram negative bacteria the primary stain will be washed out with the decolorizer and
it will be stained with the counterstain. Whereas in Gram positive bacteria the primary stain will not
leave the cell wall. This difference comes from difference in the structure of the cell wall that retains
the stain.
The Gram positive cell wall is composed of peptidoglycans, a thick layer of protein sugar complexes
taking up 60 90% of their cell wall. Peptidoglycan is composed of two glucose derivatives, N
acetylmuramic acid and N acetylglucosamine alternated and cross linked by tetrapeptides that is

Tidal Energy and the Methods to Harness It Essay
Tidal Energy and the Methods to Harness it
Introduction:
The world is in a crisis. Traditional energy sources such as oil, coal, and natural gas are dwindling at
an alarming rate. Governments are struggling to purchase those resources in enough volume to feed
their citizens. It is becoming abundantly clear that something needs to be done to meet, and eventually
surpass current energy demands. One of the resources that is essentially unlimited is a resource called
Tidal Energy. Tidal Energy has been estimated that it can create 2110 terrawatt hours in the United

Basically this technology is floating spheres at the bottom of the ocean floor that move back and forth
with waves, capturing the kinetic energy as it moves and generates electricity. This technology
operates all the time and doesn t totally depend on the time of day to really work. Others are sunk
turbines which catch the energy as water flows through them. This technology is probably the fastest
growing technology because of the fact that it has no current environmental impacts. These
technologies don t trap silt and are easily avoidable by the local wildlife and merchant ships. Also the
material needed to build these tidal farms is much less than it would be to build a wind farm because
water us much more dense making it easier for a smaller turbine to catch and change the kinetic
energy into power that we can use. (1,2,3,4) There is also a type of technology called a tidal lagoon
that companies and governments are looking at utilizing to help produce energy. They function very
similar to barrages, except they don t need an inlet to work. These can be made along the coastlines of
islands and countries. They look a lot like little harbors stretching across the coastline. These also don
t even need to be made using artificial building materials, which cuts back on the costs of building
them. The process is the same as barrages, the sea rushes in and is held back at high tide. Then at low
tide the water is allowed to rush over turbines turning them and generating

Female Characters In Marie De France And The Wife Of Bath
In Lanval, the women characters revealed Marie de France s personal moral convictions and her
philosophical autonomy. Different female characters had role in her story such as the mythical fairy
women and the queen as she was demonstrated as manipulative and lustful because they used their
beauty and status for their personal benefit. Generally, Marie de France s explained various points
such as beauty, love, and manipulation. Similarly, in The Wife of Bath, Geoffrey Chaucer illustrates
the significance of women role, yet they had a different power usage in persuading. The women
characters use alternative methods in expressing their role and empowerment that have been illustrated
extremely different in each of Lanval and The Wife of Bath tales. Marie de France s demonstrated the
fairy queen as a symbol for female empowerment when the fairy queen said, I admonish you now, I
command and beg you, do not let any man know about this. I shall tell you why: you would lose me
for good if this love were known; you would never see me again or possess my body (Anthology, L
150, 124). She showed that the fairy queen was entitle as the fairy queen highlighted the consequences
of not keeping their relationship in secret from everyone. Also, the fairy queen used the word
command to show that she was entitled, yet she followed it by the word beg you, she used indirect
method to clarify it.
Moreover, in the tale it was illustrated by Marie de France s that the fairy queen preferred to keep her
information secret form Lanval. As Briscoe said, While namelessness, especially within a narrative,
implies a lack of identity and thus a lack of importance or relevance, Marie s fairy queen uses it to her
advantage (Briscoe, 24). In Most situations, providing shortage information indicates to a lack of
importance of the other thing or person. However, in this situation the fairy queen is the one who
wanted to be unknown and chose to provide short information to Lanval, which revealed her power
and control. Apparently, the fairy queen wanted to be control of their relationship and she wanted to be
in charge of their meetings. Marie de France s illustrated that the king s being manipulated of by the

Conclusion
In this study, a polymer inclusion membrane was prepared and succevally applied for the removal of
citric acid from synthetic wastewater. The mixture of CTA and CA was found to be the optimum base
polymer for quantitative transport of citric acid. Moreover, the nature of carrier especially alkyl chain
length, stirring rate, and pH of feed phase are also important factors affecting the increased rate of
citric acid transport. Hence, from results obtained it can be seen that the investigated
calix[4]resorcinarene are effective extractants for citric acid and that their extraction abilities depend
on the alkyl chain length of the substituent in the macrocycle. Choosing the appropriate length of alkyl
chain, very selective system can be designed. The excellent efficiency for the citric acid transport by
the proposed PIM system reveals its potential application for the selective removal, concentration and
purification of citric acid from different media.

one of a kind. The motifs that Tim Burton uses are the icing on the cake of his success. This use of
motifs of all types is regarded as masterful in the film industry. Though there are many recorded
motifs that Burton uses, one of the most important in Edward Scissorhands would be conformity vs
individuality. This motif comes into play with Edward s first appearance. When Peggy first encounters
him, there is a sort of irony because she sees that he is a loner, therefore she thinks he is unhappy. But,
as the story unfolds we see that it is Peggy and the other conformists that are actually unhappy. The
same motif of conformity vs. individuality was used in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Willy
Wonka is a similar character to Edward not just because he was portrayed by the same actor, but also
because he chooses to set himself apart from the mainstream to follow what he considers his legacy.
Like Edward, Willy Wonka does not conform to contemporary ideology. These characters are just
examples of how Tim Burton uses the same motifs in his movies. The way Tim Burton uses the
techniques of setting, point of view, and motifs throughout his movies, gives his works a certain
similar feeling or mysterious mood. As a film maker, Tim Burton seems to break some rules, such as
the rule of using only one point of view without clear transitioning. The radical

Ambition In Julius Caesar
The nature of the human mind is that if one doesn t like something, fix it. That statement applies to
everyday life, in finances, career choices, and relationships. The delicate relationship between a ruler
and his people balances on thin ice; be a leader and take charge, take the glory and power given and
run. Do not, however, exploit this glory and power to the point of upsetting the people. Julius Caesar,
like many rulers before and after him, worked tirelessly to strike this balance. However, his
assassination proved that those attempts were futile. Caesar was murdered by his own people, and
furthermore, his friends, for reasons really unknown to history. However, through pieces written
sometimes years later by others, historians are able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cicero in his piece Roman History says, Behold, here you have a man who was ambitious to be kind
of the Roman People and master of the whole world; and he achieved it! The man who maintains that
such an ambition is morally right is a madman; for he justifies the destruction of law and liberty and
thinks their hideous and detestable suppression glorious. Cicero here is simply explaining that the
power Caesar holds, and his wish to have power over everybody, is morally incorrect. His ways of
handling the law and ruling makes him a madman for all he has done. He is inserting the idea here that
Caesar s assassins had in mind this hunger for power Caesar held as a possible reason for his demise.
Once faced with the powers of a ruler, he is simply after more, leading him to argue that something
about that want of power is not right of a man. This argument is again attempted to be explained by
Nicolaus of Damascus in Life of Augustsus. In this, Nicolaus touches on many points of possible
contention, including the search for power Caesar had. He did not share his glory with others who
deserved it, taking all of the power that resulted for himself. Nicolaus eloquently ties up his point in
the statement, When he became exalted through many notable victories (which was fair enough) and
began to think himself superhuman the common people worshipped him, but he began to be
obnoxious to the optimates and to those who were trying to obtain a share in the government. The
point is made here that as Caesar grew in the ranks ad gained more power of the people, he became
less inclined to share this power with those attempting to also move up in government. Once given a
good deal of power, Caesar let that get to his head and affect how he lead his people, as

Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s Appassionata...
Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are recognized
as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and creativity of these
pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they
are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces
are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many songs
composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the significant attributes of these
pieces and compare their similarities and differences.
The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was
composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around him.
By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf. Although
this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact,
in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career. Beethoven
was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the first to stray from
the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer than most and
incorporated dramatic elements. With just one instrument Beethoven was able to convey so much
power and emotion, something that no one at the time

School Tryout Essay
There has long been a disagreement about whether schools should hold tryouts for competitive sports
teams, for the reason that many people hold varying opinions on this issue. Despite the fact that an
incredible amount of citizens believe that students should be allowed to participate in athletics without
trying out, numerous people disagree with that position. Some people argue that tryouts are a
traditional way to choose the best students on the spot, or instead, tryouts could result as an emotional
breakdown. But the truth of the matter is that students should be trying out for a competitive sport
team. One main reason is that having tryouts allows students to push to try harder, and learn life
lessons. The last reason is, if it weren t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without tryouts, students wouldn t learn that not everything is handed to them for free. This is why
schools need to permit tryouts.
Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be too
many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If there s
too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve.
(Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete)
should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the opinion.
Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in this certain
sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices, while other
athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are concentrated during
practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all. They deserve the
appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices for the particular
game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on the team so they can
achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive sports teams. Additionally,
Budgets aren t large enough to cover all costs players need. (Matz, 2015). This statement shows that

  • 3. Analysis Of Concerto For Violin And Cello Concerto for Violin and Cello, Op.102 (Brahms, Johannes) First movement Allegro. The concert begins with an orchestral tutti of four measures that outlines the eventual main theme of the movement; the cello collects the last three notes and launches forward in an impassive and unaccompanied recitative, but at the right time, as indicated. The wooden instruments gently present the second motif (in major key), which is taken by the violins, who in turn develop it in the form of a rhapsody before they join the cello in an extensive dialogue. Only after this does the course of the first movement finally begin. The main reasons are widely contrasted in character, being the first challenging and passionate and the second warmly lyrical. Between both, in the initial presentation of the orchestra of this material, appears a hectic and syncopated figure, which can be heard later. Both motifs are then re exposed by the soloists on their own terms before leading to a brief development and recapitulation section. At the end of this movement the tonality of return to minor. Second movement Andante. A horn touch in ascending fourth, with an answer in the wooden instruments, becomes the first four notes of the main theme of the Andante , a broad melody sung by the two soloists in octaves. When the melody ceases, there is an abrupt change of tone that provided pure pleasure and the wooden instruments offer a new and exciting theme, trumpet plays the two notes that mark the ... The foundation subjects in the national curriculum comprise of history, geography, modern foreign languages, physical education (PE), religious education, art and design, citizenship, computing, design and technology and music (DFE 2013, p7). All the foundation subjects have a place on the National Curriculum; however, for the purposes of this essay we will be focussing on the reasons for PE being an important part of the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum (DFE 2013, p5) states that every state funded school must offer a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based and which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society and, prepares pupils at the school for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life . It aims to give children the knowledge that that they need to be educated citizens and gives an outline of the core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and creative lessons to promote pupils knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum (DFE 2013, p6). The key aims of PE on the national curriculum focusses on a healthy lifestyle developing competence across several physical activity areas and for children to be active for sustained periods of time and encouraging children to engage in competitive activities and sports (Smith 2014. P213). At Key Stage 1 the national curriculum states that pupils should develop fundamental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is due to the limitations set in patents available for new pharmaceuticals. This being the case, pharmaceutical companies can t rely on one particular product to provide competitive advantage. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Bristol Myers Squibb s is organized in this way, it has been able to keep the pace very well making it one of the largest research based pharmaceutical company in the world. Brand Name Bristol Myers Squibb s gains competitive parity from its brand name in that it has a good reputation for creating products that work well and are safe. This provides value to the customer because they know that the product was heavily researched before it was marketed to the general public. However, this is not rare among firms in this industry as all new products must be cleared by the Food and Drug Administration before it can be marketed which gives consumers a certain amount of security when choosing a product regardless of who produced it. This also means that it is somewhat easy to imitate. Once you get past the start up costs, if you produce a product that is not already patented and is approved by the FDA, your product is just as good as the competitors. The reason for the lack of rarity and ease of imitability of the brand name is that, like other pharmaceutical companies, Bristol Myers Squibb does not push the brand name but rather the name they have assigned to their product. The company s name does not appear in any of its product s advertisements. This being the case they must diversify their product line. Product Diversity Since researching new pharmaceutical products takes a great deal of time, the only way to keep the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Devices Used In Alice In Wonderland The Many Meanings of Alice in Wonderland Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, written by acclaimed British author Lewis Carroll, have enchanted people young and old since their publications. Mr. Carroll uses many rhetorical devices to enhance these two fairytales including but by no means limited to irony, symbolism, theme, metaphor, alliteration, and ambiguity. Many types of irony are used throughout Alice s Adventures in Wonderland in particular. One example of a particular form of ambiguity seen frequently is the use of homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings such as air and heir . Alice encounters this variety of obscurity first in chapter three after she has fallen down that fateful rabbit hole. Situational irony in this story begins when Alice ... Mouse then began to speak in a monotonous tone about William the Conqueror and other dull or dry things. (Wollner) Since this was obviously unable to get the group out of their soggy state, Dodo suggested that they run a Caucus race. A caucus in politics is similar to a political party, and a race is a contest between people, in this case for votes. The caucus race in this fairytale is a literal race course in which There was no One, two, three, and away! but they began running when they liked, and left off when they liked, so that it was not easy to know when the race was over. . Accountants also consider state and federal laws. Ethics and the law works hand in hand therefore should be on the minds of those considering the commission of fraud. Second, Reed can transfer the merchandise to the customer and promise a refund to the customer s account after 2010 report filing (Mintz, 2011). Like the first, this option is also unethical. Besides manipulating the financial reports, these choices post a risk for Excello that the sale may never fruition. Third, Excello could offer the customer a 10% discount to purchase the merchandise before December 31, 2010. This option being the most ethical decision because no fraudulent activity occurs. The information gathered from Mary Paul s letters to her father make it clear that Mary s life experiences turned her into anything but an average woman. • 13. As I Lay Dying Language Analysis In As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner effectively uses linguistic abnormalities to challenge the potency of language. This produces an overarching idea on the cyclic nature of mortality and its ultimate nihilistic significance. To unite these otherwise restricted concepts, the novel requires an unusual relationship between its characters and the author. This relationship is only complicated by the delicate nature of mortality. Thus, Faulkner antagonizes the limitations of language and challenges words to convey more significance than their flat definitions. Faulkner overcomes the boundaries of language by stream of consciousness. This allows him to encompass contemporary artistry and cultural phenomena. Therefore, the novel s unique construction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its linguistic complexities seem unnecessary and flawed. This effect is produced because of the novel s twisted humor and structures such as unexplained italicized paragraphs, a pictogram of a coffin (Faulkner 88), sporadic punctuation, and a line of blank space (Faulkner 173). These things make the novel seem chaotic and even contradictory. Regardless of its complexity, these linguistic abnormalities are necessary to explicate the novel s purpose: the insignificance of life and death. This attitude is apparent only because of stream of consciousness, artistry, and cultural diction. Stream of consciousness unifies the narrators and the author. This change in scope produces a more intimate understanding of each character. For example, it allows for Addie s postmortem narration. Thus, stream of consciousness operates as a fundamental platform for the novel s purpose. Similarly, the surrealist and cubist point of view heightens the dark comedy of mortality. The unification of these two perspectives the symmetry of cubism and the cynical surrealism creates Dewey Dell: the mirror and product of Addie s suppressed station. Just as Addie never wanted her children, Dewey Dell attempts to have an abortion. Satrapi s narrative does the Iranian society justice. It explains the common misconceptions of Iran and its society by a first hand account, Marjane Satrapi. Power Of Artificial Intelligence The power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is growing at an alarmingly dangerous rate and has the potential to take over the world if we do not come together as a whole and put regulations on the usage of it. Artificial Intelligence is defined as The capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior (Merriam Webster). As we know Artificial intelligence now, it is fairly simple for the uses that we have for it, such as SIRI on Apple devices, AI controlled video game opponents, and Google s search algorithms predicting what you are going to type into its search bar. That is only the beginning of Artificial Intelligence s many capabilities. Global militaries are researching and developing technology for war that uses AI, car manufacturers are teaching AI how to drive cars by itself, IBM uses its AI creation Watson to help businesses make decisions and grow, and thousands of other major companies and powerful nations are using it in many unique ways. It contains many different unique parts, but the main uses are: Learning, Reasoning, Perception, Reasoning, Problem solving, and using Natural Language (Copeland 2017). We need to regulate or eliminate the use of AI in war around the globe, stabilize the economy after implementation of AI, and reduce or eliminate the inequality caused by it. AI controlled killing machines used in warfare, sounds cool, right? They might sound like quite the sight to see, but what happens when they become smart enough and decide to turn against the people who created them and are using them for their own gain? How do we stop them? That is one question that many people have, but none seemed to know the answer. What are the ethics behind using robots to kill people? For example, is it not just as bad as a government that has chemical weapons, that uses them against people that do not? None of the government s forces are harmed, yet thousands of people are harmed and killed from the weapons, and it only takes one fighter jet and pilot to drop the bomb. It is the same with the AI controlled robots, they could be deployed halfway across the world, yet be controlled by someone on the complete other side of earth, without any threat of danger or harm. Not yet knowing what he would do inside he went on a mission to find a chef to collaborate with. Mazouz was already a reputable and successful restaurateur with his celebrated restaurants Au Bascou and 404 in Paris as well as Momo in London. The listed townhouse was designed as the private residence of James Viner by James Wyatt in 1779. After that it filled many roles over the years including being converted into the headquarters of Royal Society of British Architects (RIBA) from 1887 1909. In 1954 it became Christian Dior s first boutique where Dior stored his collections in London. In Paris Mazouz set up a meeting with Pierre Gagnaire, My plan was to ask if he had someone in mind in his kitchen for this venture, but he said, Why not me? I freaked out, I had not planned to work with a master. But I said, That s great! It reminded Gagnaire of Saint Étienne where his restaurant had gone bankrupt during the recession of the early 1990s. Mazouz later elaborated His restaurant was doing molecular food before anyone else, so for me the story of Sketch, and our friendship, started with his old restaurant. The initiative, entitled UN Sustainable Development Goals includes a list of seventeen goals to be achieved over the next fifteen years and encompasses measures to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. This paper intends to provide an in depth analysis of the tenth UN Sustainable Development Goal: Reducing income inequalities. Income inequality is a problematic reality of the modern era that slows economic growth, generates political instability, causes health problems and creates severe social inequalities among children. As part of this analysis, determinants of this global issue will be discussed as well as its correlation with globalization. Lastly, suggestions will be provided to the global community with regards to possible solutions to income inequality, as well as a discussion about the potential roles and responsibilities for Canadians in response to the issue. Although many milestones have been reached on the road to eradicate mass poverty, a large disparity still exists, otherwise known as income inequality. The issue currently pertains to the rich and poor. It is illustrated among a macroeconomic level (between countries), as well as a microeconomic level (within countries). The ... Arbitration allows for speedy and cheap resolution of any disputes, the parties involved in a dispute agree to appoint a third person (arbitrator) who will hear their testimonies, and look into the evidence they provide. The arbitrator s decision cannot be challenged in a law court as it is considered final and the parties involved have to accept the decision (Brams Merrill, 1986). There are only very limited circumstances where the decision of an arbitrator can be challenged, and this is mostly if there can be proof from one of the parties showing that the arbitrator was biased in their decision or ruling. The chosen arbitrator will be an experienced person in the area of the dispute. Arbitration Costs The costs involved in normal arbitration are minimal and the amount of time the arbitrator takes in order to reach a decision is short as compared to normal litigation cases. The costs are minimal as there is no need for judges and juries to be involved. Some arbitration decisions may drag on for longer just as the normal litigation cases, and this would increase the costs incurred in preparation for the arbitration. • 30. The Education Of Cyrus S The Education of Cyrus Many people look at good leaders and wonder what made them great. Xenophon was one such person. He looked at the legendary leader, Cyrus of Persia, and presented him as the best leader the world had ever seen. Cyrus could rule over humans as easily as other men ruled sheep and livestock. He was seen as just and honorable as he lavished things on his compatriots generously. But although he acted just and honorable his motives were far from good. He used manipulation to gain power for himself on many instances. His extravagant generosity, which was so highly praised, was used for only his own gain. Cyrus true nature can be seen from a very young age. At first glance Cyrus seemed to be a wonderful child, someone very obedient and loving. He constantly served his mother and grandfather, eager to gratify them in anyway within his power. As much as he looks like a boy with a good, generous heart doing what will make others happy there is an underlying greed in the young boy. Cyrus is also described as most ambitious and one who endured every labor for the sake of being praised . The young boy diligently learned how to do everything exceedingly well and he worked on what he knew he was bad at in order to improve in order that he could receive praise. However, he did these things so that others would praise him. His greed first manifested itself in a greed for praise and attention, rather than simply to be generous. The poem consists of informal diction, characteristic of the fantasy world it takes place in. Carroll uses words that are characteristic of a young child s vocabulary. The tone then reverts to one of calm in the following stanza, as Carroll shows the boy stopping to rest by a tree. A drastic shift in the tone occurs as the jabberwocky emerges to where the boy rests, changing it from a serene, almost monotonous tone to an exhilarating one marked by a clash between the jabberwocky and the boy. Carroll writes, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, came whiffling through the tulgey wood (14 15). The jabberwocky is depicted as a fierce beast, changing the tone from a calm one to a more violent one. Once the battle is over and the boy stands triumphant over the powerful beast, the tone of the poem shifts to a jovial and congratulatory one. The father expresses his praise to his son for conquering the beast. The father exclaims, Come to my arms, my beamish boy! (22). He is ecstatic about his son s triumph over the jabberwocky and the tone reflects the father s sentiments. Finally, the poem reverts to the tone of the beginning: one of calm and peace. Carroll s utilization of tone shifts throughout the entire poem keeps the reader on their heels. The constant shifts allow the reader to remain entertained and engaged with the poem. The constant shift in tone used by Carroll is characteristic of a mountain climb. The tone begins as a peaceful, normal one then escalates into one of violence as the clash against the jabberwocky ensues, then reverts back to the peaceful tone expressed at the beginning. Not only is it important in a lab setting but as well as in healthcare in general. Properly identify what strain of bacteria a person has will aid in the proper medicine and dose given. Throughout the semester we have learned about different types of bacteria and certain test that can clearly identify them. The purpose of this lab report is to identify a Gram positive or Gram negative bacterium. Using all the knowledge of procedures and lab techniques identify the unknown and discuss all the tests you performed. Introduction Gram staining is a technique used to determine if the bacteria is Gram positive or Gram negative. Gram staining procedure uses crystal violet stain, iodine moderator, alcohol decolorizer and safarin counter stain. In Gram negative bacteria the primary stain will be washed out with the decolorizer and it will be stained with the counterstain. Whereas in Gram positive bacteria the primary stain will not leave the cell wall. This difference comes from difference in the structure of the cell wall that retains the stain. The Gram positive cell wall is composed of peptidoglycans, a thick layer of protein sugar complexes taking up 60 90% of their cell wall. This technology operates all the time and doesn t totally depend on the time of day to really work. Others are sunk turbines which catch the energy as water flows through them. This technology is probably the fastest growing technology because of the fact that it has no current environmental impacts. These technologies don t trap silt and are easily avoidable by the local wildlife and merchant ships. Also the material needed to build these tidal farms is much less than it would be to build a wind farm because water us much more dense making it easier for a smaller turbine to catch and change the kinetic energy into power that we can use. The women characters use alternative methods in expressing their role and empowerment that have been illustrated extremely different in each of Lanval and The Wife of Bath tales. Marie de France s demonstrated the fairy queen as a symbol for female empowerment when the fairy queen said, I admonish you now, I command and beg you, do not let any man know about this. The mixture of CTA and CA was found to be the optimum base polymer for quantitative transport of citric acid. Moreover, the nature of carrier especially alkyl chain length, stirring rate, and pH of feed phase are also important factors affecting the increased rate of citric acid transport. Hence, from results obtained it can be seen that the investigated calix[4]resorcinarene are effective extractants for citric acid and that their extraction abilities depend on the alkyl chain length of the substituent in the macrocycle. Tim Burton has a unique spin on the traditional point of view concept that some may say makes him one of a kind. The motifs that Tim Burton uses are the icing on the cake of his success. This use of motifs of all types is regarded as masterful in the film industry. Though there are many recorded motifs that Burton uses, one of the most important in Edward Scissorhands would be conformity vs individuality. This motif comes into play with Edward s first appearance. When Peggy first encounters him, there is a sort of irony because she sees that he is a loner, therefore she thinks he is unhappy. But, as the story unfolds we see that it is Peggy and the other conformists that are actually unhappy. The same motif of conformity vs. individuality was used in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka is a similar character to Edward not just because he was portrayed by the same actor, but also because he chooses to set himself apart from the mainstream to follow what he considers his legacy. Like Edward, Willy Wonka does not conform to contemporary ideology. These characters are just examples of how Tim Burton uses the same motifs in his movies. The way Tim Burton uses the techniques of setting, point of view, and motifs throughout his movies, gives his works a certain similar feeling or mysterious mood. As a film maker, Tim Burton seems to break some rules, such as the rule of using only one point of view without clear transitioning. The radical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Ambition In Julius Caesar The nature of the human mind is that if one doesn t like something, fix it. That statement applies to everyday life, in finances, career choices, and relationships. The delicate relationship between a ruler and his people balances on thin ice; be a leader and take charge, take the glory and power given and run. Do not, however, exploit this glory and power to the point of upsetting the people. Julius Caesar, like many rulers before and after him, worked tirelessly to strike this balance. However, his assassination proved that those attempts were futile. Caesar was murdered by his own people, and furthermore, his friends, for reasons really unknown to history. However, through pieces written sometimes years later by others, historians are able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cicero in his piece Roman History says, Behold, here you have a man who was ambitious to be kind of the Roman People and master of the whole world; and he achieved it! The man who maintains that such an ambition is morally right is a madman; for he justifies the destruction of law and liberty and thinks their hideous and detestable suppression glorious. Cicero here is simply explaining that the power Caesar holds, and his wish to have power over everybody, is morally incorrect. His ways of handling the law and ruling makes him a madman for all he has done. He is inserting the idea here that Caesar s assassins had in mind this hunger for power Caesar held as a possible reason for his demise. Once faced with the powers of a ruler, he is simply after more, leading him to argue that something about that want of power is not right of a man. This argument is again attempted to be explained by Nicolaus of Damascus in Life of Augustsus. In this, Nicolaus touches on many points of possible contention, including the search for power Caesar had. He did not share his glory with others who deserved it, taking all of the power that resulted for himself. Nicolaus eloquently ties up his point in the statement, When he became exalted through many notable victories (which was fair enough) and began to think himself superhuman the common people worshipped him, but he began to be obnoxious to the optimates and to those who were trying to obtain a share in the government. The point is made here that as Caesar grew in the ranks ad gained more power of the people, he became less inclined to share this power with those attempting to also move up in government. Once given a good deal of power, Caesar let that get to his head and affect how he lead his people, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s Appassionata... Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are recognized as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and creativity of these pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many songs composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the significant attributes of these pieces and compare their similarities and differences. The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around him. By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf. Although this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact, in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career. Beethoven was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the first to stray from the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer than most and incorporated dramatic elements. With just one instrument Beethoven was able to convey so much power and emotion, something that no one at the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. School Tryout Essay There has long been a disagreement about whether schools should hold tryouts for competitive sports teams, for the reason that many people hold varying opinions on this issue. Despite the fact that an incredible amount of citizens believe that students should be allowed to participate in athletics without trying out, numerous people disagree with that position. Some people argue that tryouts are a traditional way to choose the best students on the spot, or instead, tryouts could result as an emotional breakdown. But the truth of the matter is that students should be trying out for a competitive sport team. One main reason is that having tryouts allows students to push to try harder, and learn life lessons. The last reason is, if it weren t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without tryouts, students wouldn t learn that not everything is handed to them for free. This is why schools need to permit tryouts. Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be too many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If there s too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve. (Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete) should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the opinion. Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in this certain sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices, while other athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are concentrated during practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all. They deserve the appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices for the particular game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on the team so they can achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive sports teams. Additionally, Budgets aren t large enough to cover all costs players need. (Matz, 2015). This statement shows that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
