Electroconvulsive Therapy Research Paper
Imagine a young woman by the name of Gabrielle Blackman Sheppard, struggling with depression.
Thoughts of suicide and loneliness plague her day in and day out and she cannot seem to overcome
that which seems to curse her waking days. In an attempt to be freed of this, she decides to try
something known as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Her family is horrified, knowing the dangers
that often come with this procedure and warn against it, but she goes through with it anyway. The
image they all had was of someone being forcibly strapped into an electric chair, Gabrielle, who has
suffered...for nearly 30 years. Many people still see it as a form of torture. But I was desperate. I was
more terrified of not having it because, at the time, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people, when they hear the term electroconvulsive therapy have the assumption that it is used
only to cure depression, but this is a common misunderstanding. It is generally less often used for
other disorders, but it can be helpful to people with schizophrenia, especially people who are
catatonic, which is a state of muscular rigidity and stupor ( Catatonia ). A definition of schizophrenia
is a chronic brain disorder with symptoms that may include delusions hallucinations, trouble with
thinking and concentration, and a lack of motivation. The disorder affects slightly more than one
percent of the population and is found to run in families (Scutti). Many people also describe it as
hearing multiple voices or sounds in your head. Sometimes the sounds are vague and are more like a
rustle or a beep. If there are voices, sometimes the words are inaudible, but when a voice is
recognizable, it s like being surrounded by a gang of bullies said Tanya Luhrman, a Stanford
anthropologist (Standen). All of these quotes and examples portray how miserable it must feel to have
to endure schizophrenia. To people suffering from schizophrenia, it seems that ETC would be a very
appealing escape from the reality of their

Environmental Effects Of Cadmium
Environmental pollutants are becoming increasingly present throughout the world as industrial
progress has expanded in countries like China. Among these environmental pollutants, Cadmium has
been characterized as the most dangerous heavy metal ion because of its resiliency and numerous
negative health effects (Kermani et. Al., 2010). Growing dependence on chemical fertilizer,
wastewater irrigation, and uncontrolled discharge of industrial waste from activities, such as mining
and smelting, has led to large amounts of Cadmium in soil (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Cadmium has
adverse effects on plant life. Cadmium competes with nutrients, such as Calcium, Magnesium, and
Iron, that are also trying to get through the cell membranes of plant cells (Nazar et. Al., 2012).
Specifically, disruption of the Calcium channel in plants with Cadmium can lead to an altered plant
water relationship, causing, stomatal closure in many plants, leading to lower transpiration rate, and
inhibitions of photosynthesis through an adverse effect on chlorophyll metabolism. (Nazar et. Al.,
2012) Because Cadmium replaces the space that plants have for Calcium, the plants overall function is
worsened because it changes the plant s relationship with water, causing the stomata, which oversee a
plants respiratory function, to close. The plants then begin to transpire less and photosynthesis in
plants decrease as a result. Decreased photosynthesis leads to growth inhibition of plants and an
imbalance in

Risks And Risks Of Risk
Questions in analyzing are 5 W s and 1 H (where, what, when, why who and how), what risk are
related to attaining the stated goals? what are the risk of not attaining the goals? who is affected by the
risk? Step 2 evaluate and prioritize the risk At this step, the impact, probability and exposure will be
analyzed and further understanding of the risk aids in evaluating the effect of the hazard correctly and
the consequences of its impact in the agency. The information generated will be acted upon setting
them in levels of priority. The probability of a risk happening has to be greater than zero to be set as a
priority and the impact of a risk is a measure of the degree of detrimental, catastrophic effects and the
degree of loss. Risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, because of a clear quantitative metrics that are within a specific threshold and an arrangement to
proceed with the plans, it can be used as a data analysis and does not require an expertise to be able to
construct and utilize a risk matrix. Although some of this benefits are very important, some drawbacks
when using a risk matrix are: insufficient resolution, inaccuracy, inconclusive figures, ineffective for
random decision making and highly negative correlations. The impact of the risk is determined by
using the impact criteria provided below. And the likelihood criteria are used to determine the
likelihood of the hazard occurring. The range of the hazard is further analyzed from the risk matrix by
evaluating the intersection of the impact and likelihood. This will aid in taking the decision of
accepting the risk or not and a risk is usually considered acceptable if it has a very low significant
level. Step 3 determine necessary controls (engineering controls, administrative and work practice

An Analysis Of Inculpability In The Turn Of The Screw By...
Inculpability is the lack of culpability or corruption. Henry James was one of the main novelists
during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Many of his works were about European and
American people. The relationship between the governess and the children show us that she cares for
them as if they are her own. In the novel The Turn of the Screw, Henry James utilizes the main
character, the governess, to sacrifice her life; this does more damage than expected and shows how
inculpability can be corrupted. The novel The Turn of the Screw emerged in 1898. Once it was
published readers were frightened and it was kenned to be one of the most perturbing ghost stories
indited. Henry indited this novel during a low point in his life. The majority of his inditements were
about disjointing homes. Afore the final novel of The Turn of the Screw was published Henry revised
it several of times. Henry indited many plays during his vocation but never got any appreciation from
them. During this duration, many believed in ghost and spirituality. After the story of the Fox sister

Franklins Preface To Poor Rich Essay
In Benjamin Franklin amp;#8217;s preface to Poor Richard Improved, quot; The Way to Wealth quot;,
Franklin offers many adages to help the reader conserve money. Many of these sayings are common
even today. The title of this preface makes since because the title, quot; The Way to Wealth quot;, can
be interpreted as The Road to Wealth. If the reader does as these adages tell them, he or she should be
on their way to wealth. Franklin offers advice to just about anybody. Franklin believed that wealth was
important because it led to both frugality and industry. Frugality and industry were listed as his fifth
and sixth virtues.
Franklin tells us that in order to be industrious, we must always be employed in something useful. His
proverb, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Franklin tells us that in order to be frugal, we can amp;#8217;t waste anything. People who spend
lavishly should listen to the maxim, quot;Silks and Satins, Scarlet and Velvets put out the Kitchen Fire
quot;. This saying reminds us that the nice, expensive things all work just as well as the generic ones.
Another proverb that a person with no frugality should abide by is, quot;Women and Wine, Game and
Deceit, Make the Wealth small, and the Wants great. quot; This is one I can definitely relate to.
Women, wine, and playing around all do put a dent in your pocket book.
quot;Early to Bed, and Early to rise, makes a Man healthy, wealthy, and wise quot;, is another I can
relate to. This maxim is directed to all slothful people. My constant tardiness proves my laziness and
my need to abide by this one. Another similar adage is, quot;Plough deep, While Sluggards sleep, and
you should have Corn to sell and to keep. quot; Both of these maxims tell us that in order to get ahead,
you can amp;#8217;t be lazy.
Franklin believed that a person that listens to the sayings would avoid being poor. He wrote that
poverty robs a person of their spirit and virtue. His proverb, quot; amp;#8216;Tis hard for an empty
bag to stand upright quot;, lets us know that it is hard to function with no spirit or virtues. I would
suggest reading this preface to anyone who has problems with money. The sayings still hold true in
today amp;#8217;s society. Many

Thomas Hobbes And The Social Contract
Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679), an English philosopher published the work, Leviathan, which proposed
the concept of the social contract, in which societal assimilation mandates submission to authoritarian
rule, with a relinquishment of certain rights, in return for protection and aid. Hobbes offered a
foundational premise for benefits that otherwise might be absent, if not for societal constructs. John
Locke, another English philosopher published the Essay Concerning Human Understanding, which
expounded on the work of Hobbes by proposing a more integrated and ordered society. The societal
implications meant a surrender of some individual freedoms in return for a governmental structure

Cesare believed that punishment was an effective deterrent to crime, as the offender is rational and in
control of their actions and behaviors. Cesare expressed that the punishment should fit the crime and
that adjudication and punishment should be both swift and certain . He advocated for due process on
the implication of innocence until proven guilty and condemned torture on the same pretense as
torturous punishment towards self incrimination implies guilt prior to a guilty verdict by a judicial
body. His principles influenced classic criminology in the principles of punishment, due process,
rationality, and human rights. The Bill of Rights in the US constitution has several concepts
influenced, some believe, by his writings. (Cesare Beccaria, 2017)Jeremy Bentham, author of
Introduction to the Principles of Moral and Legislation , built on Cesare statement that punish should
fit the crime , by asserting that the hedonistic nature of man requires that the pain or punishment of
committing the crime outweigh the pleasure or reward obtained from committing the crime
(Schmalleger, 2010). Bentham asserted the position that human rationality and hedonistic pursuits
factored into the mentality of an individual s decision to commit a crime based on proper or extreme
punishments to serve as a deterrent. Hobbes

Carl Jung s Personality Theories
Carl Jung was a swiss phychiatrist born in 1875. As a child he was close to his father, but he also felt a
deep love for his mother. He believed that his father was a weak man. In Jung s eyes, his mother was
happy and cheerful, yet depressed. With his mother s differecenting personality, Jung saw her as two
different people. Whenever Jung had issues or problems as a child, he would look to his dreams and
fantasies for answers. Jung specialized in psychiatry at the University of Basel. He studied under
Freud yet he did not agree with some of her theories. Jung had his own ideas about personality

Many people with this type of personality trait are givers. They enjoy giving to charity and

Thirdly there is the Choleric personality type which is found in goal oriented people. These people are
good thinkers. They are tech savy, analytical, and logical. Choleric people are practical, blunt, straight

the average group of people. They only like people with the same interests and are not fans of people
with differences. People in this area of personality are managers, techs, data collectors, engineers,
programmers, and business men and women.
The fourth and last personality type is melancholic. Melancholic types are super stiuous and believe in
traditions. For example, they people they the man is the bread winner in the relationship and ask the

Black Economic Impotence
Black Economic Impotence: Living Under the Rules of Another He who has the gold makes the rules!
The above quote has been attributed to everyone from Jesus of Nazareth to Tyler Perry; however, the
first time I heard it was from a Jewish business man named David, who was teaching me the
principles of business and life. What he was explaining to me was the simple truth that those who don
t acquire wealth will always be at the mercy of those who do. He was addressing my proclivity to take
on the position of a renegade in dealing with many of the status quos of business. He told me that my
rebel spirit would serve me well, but only if I was able to obtain the gold. As I digress slightly, it is
important to take note that this white man took on the role of mentoring me after numerous blacks had
avoided and ignored my requests to teach me the game of business. Another role that this person

It is vital to understand that empowerment is not an exogenous transformation. Empowerment is a
process that is ignited internally and sustained autonomously. It is imperative that blacks get the gold,
if we ever expect to impact the rules of the game. To this point, those with the gold have implemented
rules that benefit them. They control the rules of engagement, and that leaves us as pawns in a game of

playing chess while blacks having being checkers. The first time I heard that statement was sitting

that the pop stars became a role model. Their talent, ability to take advantage of their fame and public

Instrument Digital Interface, was introduced in 1983. This device helped to combine and synchronize
different kinds of musical devices. Sequencing devices helped to make the music more rhythmic and
musical. Sequencing devices existed before 1980s, but the devices in the 1980s were much easier,
costless, and efficient. The MIDI shifted how the recordings were made in many different ways.

The Age of Enlightenment is one of the turning points in the human history, which affected the
economy, politics and social order throughout the world. Period of Enlightenment is vividly bounded
in the late XVII century up to the end of XVIII century. Main purpose of the Enlightenment time s
intellectuals was to affect and transform the society in which they lived, by challenging traditions by

India does not have one consolidated Consumer Price Index, instead we have different indices for
different population groups each giving more weightage to the goods consumed by members of the
respective group. Earlier India had separate CPIs for Industrial Workers, Agricultural Labourers, Rural
Labourers and Urban Non Manual Employees. However, the last index has been replaced in 2011, by
one that measures prices changes in goods and services consumed by the rural and urban population.
We used the Consumer Price Index as opposed to using the price data from the Wholesale Price Index
as the later measures wholesale price changes whereas we are mainly interested in studying variations
in retail or consumer s purchase prices for the purpose of this project. Hence, we obtained price data
from the Labour Bureau of India website. The price index we used was Consumer Price Index for
Industrial Workers. This was chosen as it is the index mostly widely used for calculating salaries and
allowances and as our product, being part of individual s diets, will be a major constituent of the
expenditure incurred by consumers and calculating arbitrage possibilities using consumer prices from

Underground mining involves large scale movements of rock and vegetation, which creates potential
risks of land and tunnel collapse. Furthermore, this process of mining can release toxic compounds
into surrounding water bodies. As the water takes on harmful concentrations, it can pollute the region
surrounding the mine, as well as neighbouring water bodies. This can affect the growth of vegetation,
animals and humans living in the surrounding areas. This form of mining also has high demand for
water, which can deplete supplies in the surrounding region (Web.mit.edu, 2017). When copper is
mined, toxic compounds are released into the air. The dust released during the mining of copper can
release a variety of impurities associated with common health problems. Mining is also dependent on
fossil fuels, which when released have harmful effects on the atmosphere (Web.mit.edu, 2017).
An example of the invasive nature of underground copper mining is the Mount Morgan copper mines
in Queensland, which ran from the 1880 s to the 1980 s. The remains of this mine were left and have
affected the water quality of the Dee River. The water in the Dee River has become acidic, and is not
suitable for drinking, swimming or fishing. In heavy rainfall events, it is possible for runoffs of
contaminated water to spread through the area (Qld.gov.au, 2017). The impacts of this mine, which

Eric Foner Give Me Freedom Analysis
As Eric Foner said in his Give me Liberty! Whites considered freedom a birthright, so they have
always been free. Ironically, however, blacks did not have that right, as they were mistreated and
abused both physically and sexually. For that reason, blacks, in this case African Americans, have
always had to fight to get the same rights as white Americans, and as the excerpt says, it has not yet
ended, since there is still racism and inequality among whites and blacks. Paradoxically, the United
States of America is known for being the country of freedom, however, freedom is only for whites.
For many years, the economy of the United States was based on slavery system. They were bought
and sold, constantly passed from one master to another. They were forced to work in really bad
conditions and do whatever the chief ordered. Why did whites do this? They considered it a good way
to ensure equality between whitesーan equality at the expense of the freedom of others. In addition,
whites saw themselves as a superior race, since they thought that blacks were no more than savages.
As (give me liberty book) says, the Americans considered their country as a country of free men and
Britain a kingdom of slaves (page 289) is ironic because there were areas where nearly half of the
population were slaves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Term Limits Of Judges
Recorder Philip Cattan, a respected Manchester barrister who sits as a judge part time, was seen to nod
off as ran under aged victim answered questions from the defense (Ollie Mcateer September 21st
2015). The Supreme Court is a very important part to our U.S government. The court decides the
legality of our laws, and how lives are effected by them: therefore we need to have active and
healthier judges that have some experience and know what they are doing. There are many reasons
why term limits should be put into action. In our Supreme Court most judges are aged or in their late
prime, due to the fact that we don t have a limit on how long a person can run as a judge. Judges in
their prime have a higher and faster thinking rate while their young for example, people are in much
sharper shape mental in their 40s,50s,60s, than 70s,80s,90s (Christopher Ingraham Febuary,13,2016).
Elderly people can lose their shine they had when they were young once they hit a certain age. They
can also get diagnosed with a sickness such as amnesia which can cause you to lose your memory

Analysis Of Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
The Quest to Nowhere
The novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S Thompson, tells a story of two gentlemen who
take a drug filled trip to Las Vegas. First and foremost, this novel was written to entertain the
audience, but upon the application of critical thinking, persuasion begins to become a purpose.
Throughout the novel, the irrational lifestyle of a drug binge is often glamourized. Thompson also
uses his descriptive choice of words to express his world view of society, during the sixties. The
reader can imagine what each event taking place would have looked like though Raoul Duke s eyes.
Many individuals sought to live the comfortable American dream lifestyle, but what is the American
dream? Throughout the novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas the reader is swept into an ironic and
descriptive journey, influencing the reader to feel enlightened on the subject of drugs.
The power of words is undeniable, and can translate the authors beliefs in way that will influence the
reader s beliefs. When the description of an event is so detailed that the reader is able to close their
eyes and picture it, the impact on the reader will be significant. Thompson says, My legs felt rubbery. I
gripped the desk and sagged toward her as she held the envelope, but I refused to accept it. The
woman s face was changing: swelling, pulsing ... horrible green jowls and fangs jutting out, the face of
a Moray Eel! Deadly poison! (24). Here, Thompson is describing the moment of checking

Cultural Revolution and many parts of traditional Chinese culture was either erased or wiped out from
History. Many people in China slowly recovered after the Death of Chairman Mao and in the post
Mao era, many of them were reversing all of Mao Zedong s policies and practices that made life very
difficult during the Mao era of China.
In the question of how did the PRC endure the death of Mao Zedong? I think that the PRC endured his
death because the PRC used Mao Zedong to promote the Communist cause in China. The PRC
endured because Mao contributed so much to China. Mao Zedong helped unify China and ended
many civil wars that were going around. He also helped improve the status of women in the PRC and
Moa helped elevated the status of women in the PRC. Not only that Moa Zedong also help improved
the education system in China. When Mao Zedong died, the PRC endured his death, with an elaborate
funeral and a period of morning. His body was put on display and everyone in China, who was not
working paid their last respects to Chairman Mao Zedong. The PRC endured because without Mao

John Kinsey And The Sun Being Centered, Not The Earth
With new ideas comes great debate. Through all great ideas time is necessarily for those ideas to be
accepted for example, Aristotle. Aristotle and the sun being centered, not the earth. During the 1950 s
sex was being seen as taboo but in fact it is that of biological order. During Kinsey experiments and
throughout the film we can see that sex was depicted as a more improper against common beliefs and
practices. As well as, not giving much effort however it can be justified that Kinsey observations led
to the activists of 70s and the generation of the baby boomers. Kinsey s rise was slow and steady.
Mostly due to his diligent work on a topic that almost seemed forbidden to talk about at the time. A
concept that was once attributed for just married couples. Many people at the time believed that sex
was only for wedded couples, leaving no room for objection. People of the time scoffed at ideas such
as premarital sex, homosexuality and other sexuality that appeared peculiar. Kinsey changed American
culture and a created a media frenzy when he released his first work, Sexual Behavior in the Human
Male. Which he then went on several interviews, discussions and panels to discuss sex. Kinsey was a
Harvard educated zoologist who enjoyed studying gull wasps it was not until he met his spunky yet
witty wife, Clara Mac McMillen that he became interested in the idea of sex. While teaching and
experimenting he realized that there was science evidence behind sex and behavior. When

Fact vs Reality of Movie Last of the Mohicans
The last of the Mohicans is a film directed by Michael Mann, from a script by Mann and Christopher
Crowe. It stars Daniel Day Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, West Studi, Russell Means, Eric Schwieg, Jodhi
May, Maurice Roeves, and Steven Waddington
The original novel written by James Fenimore Cooper has been popular ever since it was first
published in 1826.
Plot
A white man is adopted as a toddler by the Mohican Chingachgook and raised together with his foster
brother Uncas. His name is Hawkeye, also known as Nathaniel (Daniel Day Lewis).
The movie begins in the year of 1757 and the French and British are at war with various Indians
taking part on both sides. The main part is about the 1757 siege of a British fortress; Fort William
Henry.

In Real Life
The last of the Mohicans is a very entertaining film. But it is not as historically accurate as you may
think.
There are no facts about any, in real life, very similar person to Hawkeye, but there are stories about
different tribes that got entirely wiped out of existence by white men.
The real Colonel Munro and the massacre
Contrary to popular belief (mostly because of the 1992 movie) Colonel George Munro (spelled Monro
in real life) did NOT die during the massacre. He arrived at Fort Edwards and went shortly thereafter
to Albany to condemn Webb s cowardly actions during the siege. Webb was recalled to England and
reassigned. His reputation was ruined.
It is easy to picture nearly the entire column, which was marching from Fort William Henry to Fort
Edwards, being slaughtered when you hear the story. When 1600 armed, Indian warriors are attacking
a defenseless, panicked column of about 2400 people (including women children), there is not much
left to the imagination how things happened. In reality, however, it did not happen the way that the
most people think it did. Colonel Monro s own estimations were that 129 were killed and wounded
among the British troops. Regarding the colonial militia, he said, No Regular Accot Could be got from
the Provincials but their Numbers Kill d Could not be Less than Four Officers about 40 Men. And
very near as many Men Wounded. There is no doubt some killing occurred, but in the big

Piazza d Italia as an Example of Postmodern Architecture
A public place incorporated into a larger commercial complex, the fountain of the Piazza d Italia
occupies a circular area off center of the development, which consists of buildings and open air
corridors planted with trees. The fountain is set on a ground of concentric circles in brick and
masonry, and is composed of a raised contour relief of the boot of Italy and a construction of several
staggered, interconnected facades following the lines of the circles. Each facade incorporates one of
the five Classical Orders in various materials, including marble, stainless steel, artificial lighting and

The Tuscan columns, for example, are fully covered in polished stainless steel and their moldings and
curves have been abstracted to a minimum of flat, conic and cylindrical shapes, striping away the
entasis (5). The Tuscan architrave carries square panels of water jets which Moore s memoirs refer to
as wetopes (6). The horizontal molding bounding the echinus of several stainless steel capitals were
made of rings of neon lights. The Doric colonnade has no physical shafts, only cylindrical streams of
pellucid water. Whilte it has the rounded echinus and and abacus, the shaft is only suggested by the
water. Some of the composite columns have angular, stylized stainless steel capitals. These had no
echinus moldings, simple scrolls for volutes ancanthus leaves merely suggested by triangles and were
sprayed by more small jets of water. In their flutes, florid carved fillets were replaced with geysers.
These composite columns had the appropriate half circle flutes on the shaft, and fairly complete
moldings at that top and bottom of the shaft. The Ionic columns possessed the simpler and more fluid
Greek volutes and had the base and echinus convex molding. The alternately concave and convex
moldings at the foot of the Ionic columns were in style of Roman examples. In fact, streams of water
were placed everywhere: on the Doric architrave, the Ionic entablature, almost every pedestal, and the
ridges of the Italian peninsula. Even two roundels

The Role Of Dante In The Divine Comedy
In The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri, Dante is tasked to voyage through Hell and
Purgatory to get to the ultimate sphere of Heaven. At the very start of his pilgrimage, he is greeted by
the shade of Virgil. Together, they go through the nine circles of Hell and climb into Purgatory,
hearing stories of the sinners along the way. Once they reach Heaven, Virgil can no longer accompany
Dante because he has not been saved by God. Beatrice, [a] Heavenly Lady (Canto 1, Purgatorio) takes
over the guidance role and shows Dante through the levels of Heaven. At the end, Dante is enlightened
by the sight of God and is set back onto the right path of life. Virgil is a crucial part to Dante s journey,
as he serves as a guide and is an embodiment of Reason. Dante s guide, Virgil, was a Roman poet who
wrote The Aeneid, the Latin epic of the Trojan hero, Aeneas. In the Divine Comedy, Virgil is in the
first circle of Hell because he was born in a time before Christ; therefore, he couldn t possibly believe
in God, whether he wanted to or not. Virgil has a distinct job in the long poem. He is sent by Lady
Beatrice to guide Dante through Hell and Purgatory. During the journey, when there are figures that
try to stop their advancements through the spheres, such as Charon at the river Acheron and Minos in
the Second Circle, Virgil explains that it is God s wish that they pass. He must teach Dante the
arrangement and workings of the lower spheres. When they climb over Satan s

Police Professionalism And Police Officers Essay
In the early 1900 s police professionalism was formed. Until then there was much corruption and
police departments were unprofessional. Influenced by police departments in Europe, America
underwent a progressive reform in their police departments. The first step towards police
professionalism was to replace police boards with chiefs of police. During the progressive era, August
Vollmer, Police Chief of Berkley, established a department code of ethics which included officers not
accepting gratuities and favors; any officer doing so would be subjected to penalties or a dismissal.
During this time formal training through police academies was started in 1908. In 1916, we start to see
policemen acquiring a college education. University of California, Berkley had a police training
school set up by Vollmer. Presently Vollmer s standards of scientific policing, education, high
standards and centralization of police services still influence police departments.
President Johnson assembled a commission in 1965 to study rising crime rates and create strategies to
combat crime. Riots were the main reason this commission came about. The report published in 1967,
entitled The Challenge of Crime in a Free Society, contained over 200 recommendations concerning
criminal justice reform (Roth, 2011). According to Roth (2011) police departments had become
isolated from the communities. Chapter 4 of the report addresses issues dealing with the police. The
commission recommended more police on

Ozymandias revolves more around time than nature, whereas To Autumn revolves around nature more
than time.

For example, the first stanza is to do with life and growth
( ripeness , budding , plump ), the second is about laziness and inactivity ( sitting careless , half reap d
, sound asleep ) and the third stanza is about death ( soft dying , mourn , dies ). I think this shows
Keats view on life; that we are born, we live, and then we die. Another thing that I think this poem
shows about Keats is his view on death. I believe that after death, there is nothing to be feared, as if
you look at his poem. After the 1st half of the 3rd stanza, all the death seems to have been left behind.
It is very musical ( bleat ,
sing , whistles ) which I think shows that Keats believes that after death you go to heaven.
As well as all this, one other thing that I can deduce from reading
John Keats poem, is that he doesn t think that time should be wasted.
His three stanzas all represent the senses of the human body; the first stanza is on touch, feel and taste
( sweet , ripeness ,
fruit ), the second is on sight and smell ( seen , fume ,
watchest ) and the third is on hearing ( songs , music , sing ). He has included this, I think, to show us
that we should use our senses, and not let them go to waste. Another point that I think agrees with my
conclusion is that in the second stanza it talks of laziness and of inactivity, and also mentions a hook
which is closely related to the scythe of the Grim Reaper.

4. Company Corporate and Business Strategy
Generic Strategies Model
The generic strategies include cost leadership, differentiation and focus apply in business unit level.
Generally, the cost leadership strategy never applicable in luxury industry. This is because most of the
consumer purchasing luxury goods do not care about price point.
No doubly, LVMH is one of the top world leading luxury products group. Every brand under the
group hold its own brand spirits and produce things different from each others. Those brands must
have few best seller product line with its signature pattern or design implemented on the saleable
goods. For example, Dior has Lady Dior bags and Bvlgari has the Serpenti collection of jewelry.
These differentiations are unique and perceived by customers as difference. Therefore, the product
value is enhanced. Due to the limited and uniqueness thus consumer willing to pay for a premium
price to buy luxury products.
Strategy Clock Model
This strategy aims to position a product at the higher price levels, whereas customers willing to buy
the product because of its high perceived value as well as high product quality. And this is the
normally practices adopted by the luxury brands. They propose to achieve premium prices with high
targeted segmentation, promotion and distribution etc. Obviously, LV is one of the brand done
successfully in this strategy, it has given a very high profit margin within the group. However, only the

Virtual Stealing
In Should Gamers Be prosecuted for Virtual Stealing? by Alex Weiss, the author attempts to argue
against a Dutch jury s decision on a case involving virtual theft. The essay discusses a Dutch court
case involving a thirteen year old who stole something from another person inside of a video game.
The author then proceeds into telling readers about stories from a game called EVE. He talks about the
value that the time is worth and his past experiences in EVE. I have found that the author was unable
to write an effective argument. The author showed weak pathos, bad ethos, and crude logos. The
author s pathos was weak in the sense that there was so little of it. He told a story of how he was once
a thief in EVE and that he has since changed. This could get people inspired to turn over a new leaf.
Weiss also stated that Kotaku said that six years of subscriptions to EVE was equivalent to one

with. Weiss shows himself to being bias in the fact that he offers no rebuttal to his argument. The
author willingly gave up information in his personal story that proves himself to be dishonest and
untrustworthy. Weiss stated that he was in an e relationship with someone who thought he was a girl

the author is writing to non gamers and they may see his source as unreliable. Weiss has presented
himself to be lazy, bias, inconsiderate, dishonest, and untrustworthy. Weiss ethics will end up being
called into question and this will weaken the effectiveness of his argument rather than present himself

Thomas Nagel s Theory Of Death Essay
In this paper, I will first elaborate on my understanding of Thomas Nagel s theory as to why death, a
permanent nonexistent state, is an undesirable state of being. I will then argue as to why I believe that
death is a misfortune using the argument that death terminates the positive experience of life as well as
rebut the counter argument for why death is good because it gives meaning to life.
Nagel champions the belief that death, a state of permanent posthumous nonexistence defined as
unsupplemented by any form of conscious survival (769), is an occurrence that harms us. Nagel s first
argument for why death is bad is that it deprives us of life, of which contains various goods that make
life valuable. Nagel supports his argument by saying that if he [the man] had not died, he would have
continued to live it, and to possess whatever good there is in living (772). He continues to list goods
such as perception, desire, activity and thought (769) as he believes that these are the essential
elements to a person meaningful life. Though Nagel concedes that the goods he listed entail both joy
and misery, as they are also fundamental factors of life, he also believes that a life which has more
misery than it does joy is still desirable and should not make death seem like a better option as it ends
the misery. His reasoning for this belief is that while a life may have more negative experiences than
positive experiences, it is still emphatically positive, (770) as the

The Benefits Of Gay And Lesbians In The Military
In addition, all people should be allowed to serve freely in the military. If gay, lesbian and bisexual
people are willing to serve and die for their country, they shouldn t hide their sexual orientation. Gay
and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also want to reveal their true
identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to openly join the army. Brave
men and women currently serving in the army will have the opportunity to come out freely and to be
honest with their companions about whom they are and who they love. Therefore, nationalistic
Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they
love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its remarkable skills and combat experience of so many
gay and lesbian service members.
Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our
military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation s founding ideals. Many countries
prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement this
prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns.
However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little
evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. Moreover, when the ban was abolished in several

When addressing the nature of water changes, it is critical to distinguish droughts departures from a
local climatological norm that is presumed known from actual dryness itself. After conceptually
separating the two, it was found that America was not just in a temporary drought but would continue
to grow drier. (Sherwood) A key component that many high profile climate reports fail to consider is
that with warming land, more rain is needed to sustain it. Although many regions will get more rain,
few will get enough to match the growing evaporative demand. If this demand is not met, precipitation
will continue to decrease, and our water resource will continue to shrink. (Sherwood) Although
humans could take further measures to reserve additional freshwater, humans already appropriate over
50 percent of all available renewable freshwater. (Srinivasan) Because water consumption is
proportional to the available amount of water, as America s freshwater supply drops they begin to use
a higher percentage of this valuable resource, leaving little amounts of water for other purposes.
(Sherwood) To compensate for this high use of water, America must put caps

According to the table, sponsorships, merchandise, and ticket sales account for 60 percent of the
Panthers earnings. In our analysis, we conservatively assumed that Greg Hardy s domestic violence
incident will directly reduce the above mentioned revenue sources.
Greg Hardy s Effect on Panthers Sponsorships
Ever since Greg Hardy s recent domestic violence incident, most of the Panthers major corporate
sponsors (Bank of America, PepsiCo, MillerCoors, Carolinas Medical Center, Anheuser Busch InBev,
and U.S. Airways) issued their statements of disapproval and urged the team to address this issue
appropriately.
Although Erik Spanberg and Adam O Daniel (2014) stated that none of the Panthers financial
sponsors will likely pull away from their donations, these major corporate sponsors don t want to
further tarnish their reputation with the NFL s bad publicity. Nonetheless, if a NFL s future decision
regarding domestic violence, a widely debated topic in the NFL, generates more negative publicity,
these major corporations are willing to stop sponsoring their teams. For example, due to the Adrian
Peterson s famous domestic violence and child abuse case, major sponsor Nike issued the following
statement:
Nike in no way condones child abuse or domestic violence of any kind and has shared our concerns
with the NFL. We have suspended our contract with Adrian Peterson (Molly Geary 2014).
From referencing precedents on sponsors

Anthropomorphism And Forest Animals
It can be suggested that Bambi s success in generating public support was a result of personifying the
forest animals. Bambi and his friends were given voices, thoughts, and emotions such as fear, love,
even curiosity that made them relatable to viewers. Anthropomorphism, by definition, is the
attribution of human characteristics to non human entities (Skibins et al., 2015). The purpose of
anthropomorphism in conservation is not to create fictional animal personas, but to create empathy
toward these animals and their ecosystems by stressing that animals have many of our characteristics
(Chan, 2012). For example, when visiting a zoo, a mother may feel a special connection when seeing a
gorilla comfort her baby. By generating this relationship, anthropomorphism poses a chance to
increase public care for a species. Though anthropomorphism may have an indirect relationship, it
creates relatability between species, and [r]elatability is linked to concern, which can lead to an
increased willingness to take conservation actions for a species (Lloyd and Woodside, 2013).
Furthermore, anthropomorphism may be applied in public advertising. Projecting human
characteristics onto an animal, generating an emotional response, causes a product to become
subconsciously memorable. Using such a method in advertising has been shown to create a link
between the consumer and the brand. The integration of explicit animal symbols... serves to activate
and connect associations in the minds of

Goal Vs. Team Goals For Older Athletes
It is difficult to say which goal is more important. I think it is very dependent on the age of the
athletes. I think for younger athletes who are still learning, the more important goal should be for
personal achievement in development, success, performance, and behavior. The team goals should be
acknowledged, but the goals should be within the abilities of the athletes. For older athletes in a more
professional setting, I think the overall goal for the team should be the main focus. Again, with
personal goals not falling to the side, but with a main focus on team goals. If I had to give up one to
achieve the other, I think letting go of the team goals for athletes personal success is more important.
Again, this has to do with the team goal

Global Information Systems ( Gis )
Global Information Systems In this critical essay, I have tried to identify the major processes of
designing, developing, and implementing Global Information Systems (GIS). I have also provided the
discussion of how the level of Global Information Infrastructures (GII) affects the design,
development, and implementation of GIS, and how these processes differ from those in a domestic
context. Finally, I have also explained how firms should employ appropriate GII to support these
processes.
Design, Develop and Implement Global Information Systems
Implementing the GIS is a huge challenge for many multi national organizations. There are numerous
reasons for which a GIS is required, for example, to provide the base IT support in each and every
country, where the business units of the organization are located. A properly designed, developed, and
implemented GIS helps exchanging information globally, and has also been flexible enough to provide
local features and functionalities (Markus, 2007).
An iterative approach is recommended at each phase of design, development, and implementation of a
GIS. Throughout the system development process a close connection between the end users, the
system analysts, and the technical team becomes a high priority. The end users should be allowed to
select, and prioritize the most important requirements. The system analysts should be able to
understand and translate the non technical language of end users to the language understandable by the

The Role of Satan in Paradise Lost
The Role of Satan in Paradise Lost
John Milton s epic Paradise Lost is one that has brought about much debate since its writing. This epic
tells the Biblical story of Adam and Eve, although from a different perspective than what most people
usually see. Milton tells the story more through the eyes of Satan, whom most people usually consider
the ultimate villain. The way in which Satan is portrayed in this story has caused speculation as to
whether Satan is actually a hero in this situation. He certainly has heroic qualities throughout the story,
yet still is ultimately responsible for Adam and Eve s sin. Satan can easily be classified as a hero in
this story, as well as the main antagonist, depending on the viewpoint of the ... Show more content on

The character of Satan in this story can also be related to other tragic heroes throughout history.
He is a variant of Achilles, who equates honor with his own status...and feels slighted by his
commander in chief, refuses his orders and believes himself superior. Both epics turn on the
connection between a sense of injur d merit and the hero s wrath. He is Odysseus and Jason on their
heroic voyages, leader and chief warrior in battle during and after the War in Heaven, and through it
all the most powerful speaker, able to rally and organize his troops with the eloquence of his appeals
to their own heroic values. (Forsyth 30).
While many arguments can be made to defend Satan as the hero of this story, his power clearly
declines throughout the poem. In the end, he does not achieve his goal. Satan is bitter, but also
acknowledges the reality of his circumstances (Smith). We see Satan reach his peak, then his power
gently declines by the end of the story. Although Satan is powerful and persevering, he is no match for
God. We begin to see more of his flaws. Satan is undoubtedly charismatic and persuasive in his
speeches, as well as a powerful military leader, yet he seems to be somewhat hypocritical as well. For
example, when we are first introduced to Satan, he tells his followers not to be afraid, yet he is afraid
himself. Some might view this as Satan being brave, but this could also be viewed as him being
deceptive, which illustrates how he

Trials of Oz
The Trials of Oz
Court as Theatre
In the first case, Robertson is not principally involved as counsel for the Oz editors in their obscenity
trial. He is just a stage hand for the defence . We note the metaphor: a stage hand is someone who
assists at a theatrical production. Robertson frequently recurs to the idea of the court as a theatre and
the players in the justice game as actors:
Like the squalor behind the splendour of the stage at Convent Garden [the great
London opera house], so the solemn ritual of an Old Bailey trial disguised the fact that it was
produced in greasepaint and chaos. The solicitors clerks who stage managed the shows would meet to
rehearse the cast of the day around the formica tables of the Rex Café ... Show more content on

That the judge is unaware that Hair is a musical is supposed to suggest how out of touch he is with
reality.
The cumulative effect of this perspective is that if the judge is hard on the allegedly obscene editors
and misrepresents their defence to the jurors, this would only be what you would expect of such a
second rate individual. Robertson s presentation, based on truth, is heavily influenced by bias and
opinion against the judge and, thereby, in favour of the defendants. The eventual verdict of guilty is
seen to be inevitable. The editors were sent to prison for psychiatric examination.
Reason and Sanity
The voices of reason and sanity , writes Robertson, were outraged and an appeal lodged. First, bail
was granted by Justice Griffiths, whose decision was made on the advice of his daughter, a young
blonde in a denim jacket and jeans . The appeal before the Lord Chief Justice succeeded after he was
persuaded that Oz paled in comparison, in terms of obscenity, with numerous other publications freely
available.
Although Oz died from an overdose of publicity , Robertson makes the telling point that the usual
ironic effect of obscenity trials is to heighten public interest in the book or artwork examined.
The principal representation of truth in The Trials of Oz is Robertson s detailed presentation of the
initial courtroom battle, including lengthy

Description And Description Of The Meyers Briggs Personality
Upon completing the Meyers Briggs Personality Test I discovered that I was an INFJ. The description
and typical personality traits exemplified who I am. Often, I am described as mysterious and difficult
to understand. Despite going above and beyond to assist others in around me I keep my thoughts,
ideas, and emotions closely guarded. Determining how to phrase my thoughts, ideas and emotions is
very difficult and the words often become jumbled in my head. For this reason I am often hesitant to
share them with others. When I do present ideas or suggestions they are often regarded as unique and
creative. People often come to me for ideas or solutions to problems, knowing that I will work until I
come up with a solution. I poses the unique ability to understand and connect with a wide variety of
people and personality traits. This makes me a well rounded individual who has the capability of being
a great leader, teacher, employee, student, and friend. Being and INFJ has a lot of positive traits that I
feel will benefit me during my education and career.
I took the Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment quiz. When I taught preschool and as the trainer for
my department I have learned that there are many different methods in which people learn. I adapted
how I taught and train based on what is required by the learner. Due to this I was curious to determine
the variety of learning methods that work best for me. I discovered that I have a broad range of ways

  • 2. Electroconvulsive Therapy Research Paper Imagine a young woman by the name of Gabrielle Blackman Sheppard, struggling with depression. Thoughts of suicide and loneliness plague her day in and day out and she cannot seem to overcome that which seems to curse her waking days. In an attempt to be freed of this, she decides to try something known as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Her family is horrified, knowing the dangers that often come with this procedure and warn against it, but she goes through with it anyway. The image they all had was of someone being forcibly strapped into an electric chair, Gabrielle, who has suffered...for nearly 30 years. Many people still see it as a form of torture. Most people, when they hear the term electroconvulsive therapy have the assumption that it is used only to cure depression, but this is a common misunderstanding. It is generally less often used for other disorders, but it can be helpful to people with schizophrenia, especially people who are catatonic, which is a state of muscular rigidity and stupor ( Catatonia ). A definition of schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder with symptoms that may include delusions hallucinations, trouble with thinking and concentration, and a lack of motivation. The disorder affects slightly more than one percent of the population and is found to run in families (Scutti). Many people also describe it as hearing multiple voices or sounds in your head. Sometimes the sounds are vague and are more like a rustle or a beep. If there are voices, sometimes the words are inaudible, but when a voice is recognizable, it s like being surrounded by a gang of bullies said Tanya Luhrman, a Stanford anthropologist (Standen). All of these quotes and examples portray how miserable it must feel to have to endure schizophrenia. To people suffering from schizophrenia, it seems that ETC would be a very appealing escape from the reality of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Environmental Effects Of Cadmium Environmental pollutants are becoming increasingly present throughout the world as industrial progress has expanded in countries like China. Among these environmental pollutants, Cadmium has been characterized as the most dangerous heavy metal ion because of its resiliency and numerous negative health effects (Kermani et. Al., 2010). Growing dependence on chemical fertilizer, wastewater irrigation, and uncontrolled discharge of industrial waste from activities, such as mining and smelting, has led to large amounts of Cadmium in soil (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Cadmium has adverse effects on plant life. Cadmium competes with nutrients, such as Calcium, Magnesium, and Iron, that are also trying to get through the cell membranes of plant cells (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Specifically, disruption of the Calcium channel in plants with Cadmium can lead to an altered plant water relationship, causing, stomatal closure in many plants, leading to lower transpiration rate, and inhibitions of photosynthesis through an adverse effect on chlorophyll metabolism. (Nazar et. Al., 2012) Because Cadmium replaces the space that plants have for Calcium, the plants overall function is worsened because it changes the plant s relationship with water, causing the stomata, which oversee a plants respiratory function, to close. The plants then begin to transpire less and photosynthesis in plants decrease as a result. Decreased photosynthesis leads to growth inhibition of plants and an imbalance in ... Risks And Risks Of Risk Questions in analyzing are 5 W s and 1 H (where, what, when, why who and how), what risk are related to attaining the stated goals? what are the risk of not attaining the goals? who is affected by the risk? Step 2 evaluate and prioritize the risk At this step, the impact, probability and exposure will be analyzed and further understanding of the risk aids in evaluating the effect of the hazard correctly and the consequences of its impact in the agency. The information generated will be acted upon setting them in levels of priority. The probability of a risk happening has to be greater than zero to be set as a priority and the impact of a risk is a measure of the degree of detrimental, catastrophic effects and the degree of loss. Also, because of a clear quantitative metrics that are within a specific threshold and an arrangement to proceed with the plans, it can be used as a data analysis and does not require an expertise to be able to construct and utilize a risk matrix. Although some of this benefits are very important, some drawbacks when using a risk matrix are: insufficient resolution, inaccuracy, inconclusive figures, ineffective for random decision making and highly negative correlations. The impact of the risk is determined by using the impact criteria provided below. And the likelihood criteria are used to determine the likelihood of the hazard occurring. The range of the hazard is further analyzed from the risk matrix by evaluating the intersection of the impact and likelihood. This will aid in taking the decision of accepting the risk or not and a risk is usually considered acceptable if it has a very low significant level. Step 3 determine necessary controls (engineering controls, administrative and work practice controls, personal protective equipment) Engineering controls, administrative and work practice controls and personal protective equipment s are some of the processes used to develop options, actions to enhance opportunities, reduce threats to the objectives of Britam water system and to control risk. • 5. An Analysis Of Inculpability In The Turn Of The Screw By... Inculpability is the lack of culpability or corruption. Henry James was one of the main novelists during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Many of his works were about European and American people. The relationship between the governess and the children show us that she cares for them as if they are her own. In the novel The Turn of the Screw, Henry James utilizes the main character, the governess, to sacrifice her life; this does more damage than expected and shows how inculpability can be corrupted. The novel The Turn of the Screw emerged in 1898. Once it was published readers were frightened and it was kenned to be one of the most perturbing ghost stories indited. Henry indited this novel during a low point in his life. The majority of his inditements were about disjointing homes. • 7. Franklins Preface To Poor Rich Essay In Benjamin Franklin amp;#8217;s preface to Poor Richard Improved, quot; The Way to Wealth quot;, Franklin offers many adages to help the reader conserve money. Many of these sayings are common even today. The title of this preface makes since because the title, quot; The Way to Wealth quot;, can be interpreted as The Road to Wealth. If the reader does as these adages tell them, he or she should be on their way to wealth. Franklin offers advice to just about anybody. Franklin tells us that in order to be frugal, we can amp;#8217;t waste anything. People who spend lavishly should listen to the maxim, quot;Silks and Satins, Scarlet and Velvets put out the Kitchen Fire quot;. This saying reminds us that the nice, expensive things all work just as well as the generic ones. Another proverb that a person with no frugality should abide by is, quot;Women and Wine, Game and Deceit, Make the Wealth small, and the Wants great. quot; This is one I can definitely relate to. Women, wine, and playing around all do put a dent in your pocket book. quot;Early to Bed, and Early to rise, makes a Man healthy, wealthy, and wise quot;, is another I can relate to. This maxim is directed to all slothful people. My constant tardiness proves my laziness and my need to abide by this one. Another similar adage is, quot;Plough deep, While Sluggards sleep, and you should have Corn to sell and to keep. quot; Both of these maxims tell us that in order to get ahead, you can amp;#8217;t be lazy. Franklin believed that a person that listens to the sayings would avoid being poor. He wrote that poverty robs a person of their spirit and virtue. His proverb, quot; amp;#8216;Tis hard for an empty bag to stand upright quot;, lets us know that it is hard to function with no spirit or virtues. Hobbes offered a foundational premise for benefits that otherwise might be absent, if not for societal constructs. Cesare expressed that the punishment should fit the crime and that adjudication and punishment should be both swift and certain . He advocated for due process on the implication of innocence until proven guilty and condemned torture on the same pretense as torturous punishment towards self incrimination implies guilt prior to a guilty verdict by a judicial body. His principles influenced classic criminology in the principles of punishment, due process, rationality, and human rights. The Bill of Rights in the US constitution has several concepts influenced, some believe, by his writings. (Cesare Beccaria, 2017)Jeremy Bentham, author of Introduction to the Principles of Moral and Legislation , built on Cesare statement that punish should fit the crime , by asserting that the hedonistic nature of man requires that the pain or punishment of committing the crime outweigh the pleasure or reward obtained from committing the crime (Schmalleger, 2010). Bentham asserted the position that human rationality and hedonistic pursuits factored into the mentality of an individual s decision to commit a crime based on proper or extreme punishments to serve as a deterrent. Furthermore, this process of mining can release toxic compounds into surrounding water bodies. As the water takes on harmful concentrations, it can pollute the region surrounding the mine, as well as neighbouring water bodies. This can affect the growth of vegetation, animals and humans living in the surrounding areas. This form of mining also has high demand for water, which can deplete supplies in the surrounding region (Web.mit.edu, 2017). When copper is mined, toxic compounds are released into the air. The dust released during the mining of copper can release a variety of impurities associated with common health problems. Mining is also dependent on fossil fuels, which when released have harmful effects on the atmosphere (Web.mit.edu, 2017). An example of the invasive nature of underground copper mining is the Mount Morgan copper mines in Queensland, which ran from the 1880 s to the 1980 s. • 17. Eric Foner Give Me Freedom Analysis As Eric Foner said in his Give me Liberty! Whites considered freedom a birthright, so they have always been free. Ironically, however, blacks did not have that right, as they were mistreated and abused both physically and sexually. For that reason, blacks, in this case African Americans, have always had to fight to get the same rights as white Americans, and as the excerpt says, it has not yet ended, since there is still racism and inequality among whites and blacks. Paradoxically, the United States of America is known for being the country of freedom, however, freedom is only for whites. For many years, the economy of the United States was based on slavery system. They were bought and sold, constantly passed from one master to another. They were forced to work in really bad conditions and do whatever the chief ordered. Why did whites do this? They considered it a good way to ensure equality between whitesーan equality at the expense of the freedom of others. In addition, whites saw themselves as a superior race, since they thought that blacks were no more than savages. As (give me liberty book) says, the Americans considered their country as a country of free men and Britain a kingdom of slaves (page 289) is ironic because there were areas where nearly half of the population were slaves. ... The court decides the legality of our laws, and how lives are effected by them: therefore we need to have active and healthier judges that have some experience and know what they are doing. There are many reasons why term limits should be put into action. In our Supreme Court most judges are aged or in their late prime, due to the fact that we don t have a limit on how long a person can run as a judge. Judges in their prime have a higher and faster thinking rate while their young for example, people are in much sharper shape mental in their 40s,50s,60s, than 70s,80s,90s (Christopher Ingraham Febuary,13,2016). Elderly people can lose their shine they had when they were young once they hit a certain age. They can also get diagnosed with a sickness such as amnesia which can cause you to lose your memory fairly easy. Health issues can really tamper with how you preform and results can end up bad. ... • 19. Analysis Of Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas The Quest to Nowhere The novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S Thompson, tells a story of two gentlemen who take a drug filled trip to Las Vegas. First and foremost, this novel was written to entertain the audience, but upon the application of critical thinking, persuasion begins to become a purpose. Throughout the novel, the irrational lifestyle of a drug binge is often glamourized. Thompson also uses his descriptive choice of words to express his world view of society, during the sixties. The reader can imagine what each event taking place would have looked like though Raoul Duke s eyes. Many individuals sought to live the comfortable American dream lifestyle, but what is the American dream? Throughout the novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas the reader is swept into an ironic and descriptive journey, influencing the reader to feel enlightened on the subject of drugs. The power of words is undeniable, and can translate the authors beliefs in way that will influence the reader s beliefs. When the description of an event is so detailed that the reader is able to close their eyes and picture it, the impact on the reader will be significant. Thompson says, My legs felt rubbery. I gripped the desk and sagged toward her as she held the envelope, but I refused to accept it. The woman s face was changing: swelling, pulsing ... horrible green jowls and fangs jutting out, the face of a Moray Eel! Deadly poison! (24). Here, Thompson is describing the moment of checking ... Even though Mao Zedong had a hand in creating China and unifying, China in it is early years up to the Chinese Cultural revolution. His downturn or his bad Mao days were after the Cultural Revolution. Many people in China slowly recovered after the Death of Chairman Mao and in the post Mao era, many of them were reversing all of Mao Zedong s policies and practices that made life very difficult during the Mao era of China. In the question of how did the PRC endure the death of Mao Zedong? I think that the PRC endured his death because the PRC used Mao Zedong to promote the Communist cause in China. The PRC endured because Mao contributed so much to China. Mao Zedong helped unify China and ended many civil wars that were going around. He also helped improve the status of women in the PRC and Moa helped elevated the status of women in the PRC. Not only that Moa Zedong also help improved the education system in China. Aristotle and the sun being centered, not the earth. During the 1950 s sex was being seen as taboo but in fact it is that of biological order. During Kinsey experiments and throughout the film we can see that sex was depicted as a more improper against common beliefs and practices. As well as, not giving much effort however it can be justified that Kinsey observations led to the activists of 70s and the generation of the baby boomers. Kinsey s rise was slow and steady. Mostly due to his diligent work on a topic that almost seemed forbidden to talk about at the time. A concept that was once attributed for just married couples. Many people at the time believed that sex was only for wedded couples, leaving no room for objection. People of the time scoffed at ideas such as premarital sex, homosexuality and other sexuality that appeared peculiar. Kinsey changed American culture and a created a media frenzy when he released his first work, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. Which he then went on several interviews, discussions and panels to discuss sex. Kinsey was a Harvard educated zoologist who enjoyed studying gull wasps it was not until he met his spunky yet witty wife, Clara Mac McMillen that he became interested in the idea of sex. But it is not as historically accurate as you may think. There are no facts about any, in real life, very similar person to Hawkeye, but there are stories about different tribes that got entirely wiped out of existence by white men. The real Colonel Munro and the massacre Contrary to popular belief (mostly because of the 1992 movie) Colonel George Munro (spelled Monro in real life) did NOT die during the massacre. He arrived at Fort Edwards and went shortly thereafter to Albany to condemn Webb s cowardly actions during the siege. Webb was recalled to England and reassigned. His reputation was ruined. It is easy to picture nearly the entire column, which was marching from Fort William Henry to Fort Edwards, being slaughtered when you hear the story. When 1600 armed, Indian warriors are attacking a defenseless, panicked column of about 2400 people (including women children), there is not much left to the imagination how things happened. In reality, however, it did not happen the way that the most people think it did. Colonel Monro s own estimations were that 129 were killed and wounded among the British troops. At the very start of his pilgrimage, he is greeted by the shade of Virgil. Together, they go through the nine circles of Hell and climb into Purgatory, hearing stories of the sinners along the way. Once they reach Heaven, Virgil can no longer accompany Dante because he has not been saved by God. Beatrice, [a] Heavenly Lady (Canto 1, Purgatorio) takes over the guidance role and shows Dante through the levels of Heaven. At the end, Dante is enlightened by the sight of God and is set back onto the right path of life. Virgil is a crucial part to Dante s journey, as he serves as a guide and is an embodiment of Reason. Dante s guide, Virgil, was a Roman poet who wrote The Aeneid, the Latin epic of the Trojan hero, Aeneas. In the Divine Comedy, Virgil is in the first circle of Hell because he was born in a time before Christ; therefore, he couldn t possibly believe in God, whether he wanted to or not. Virgil has a distinct job in the long poem. He is sent by Lady Beatrice to guide Dante through Hell and Purgatory. During the journey, when there are figures that try to stop their advancements through the spheres, such as Charon at the river Acheron and Minos in the Second Circle, Virgil explains that it is God s wish that they pass. Influenced by police departments in Europe, America underwent a progressive reform in their police departments. The first step towards police professionalism was to replace police boards with chiefs of police. During the progressive era, August Vollmer, Police Chief of Berkley, established a department code of ethics which included officers not accepting gratuities and favors; any officer doing so would be subjected to penalties or a dismissal. During this time formal training through police academies was started in 1908. In 1916, we start to see policemen acquiring a college education. University of California, Berkley had a police training school set up by Vollmer. Presently Vollmer s standards of scientific policing, education, high standards and centralization of police services still influence police departments. President Johnson assembled a commission in 1965 to study rising crime rates and create strategies to combat crime. Riots were the main reason this commission came about. The report published in 1967, entitled The Challenge of Crime in a Free Society, contained over 200 recommendations concerning criminal justice reform (Roth, 2011). For example, the first stanza is to do with life and growth ( ripeness , budding , plump ), the second is about laziness and inactivity ( sitting careless , half reap d , sound asleep ) and the third stanza is about death ( soft dying , mourn , dies ). I think this shows Keats view on life; that we are born, we live, and then we die. Another thing that I think this poem shows about Keats is his view on death. I believe that after death, there is nothing to be feared, as if you look at his poem. After the 1st half of the 3rd stanza, all the death seems to have been left behind. It is very musical ( bleat , sing , whistles ) which I think shows that Keats believes that after death you go to heaven. As well as all this, one other thing that I can deduce from reading John Keats poem, is that he doesn t think that time should be wasted. His three stanzas all represent the senses of the human body; the first stanza is on touch, feel and taste ( sweet , ripeness , fruit ), the second is on sight and smell ( seen , fume , watchest ) and the third is on hearing ( songs , music , sing ). He has included this, I think, to show us that we should use our senses, and not let them go to waste. Another point that I think agrees with my conclusion is that in the second stanza it talks of laziness and of inactivity, and also mentions a hook which is closely related to the scythe of the Grim Reaper. • 29. Thomas Nagel s Theory Of Death Essay In this paper, I will first elaborate on my understanding of Thomas Nagel s theory as to why death, a permanent nonexistent state, is an undesirable state of being. I will then argue as to why I believe that death is a misfortune using the argument that death terminates the positive experience of life as well as rebut the counter argument for why death is good because it gives meaning to life. Nagel champions the belief that death, a state of permanent posthumous nonexistence defined as unsupplemented by any form of conscious survival (769), is an occurrence that harms us. Nagel s first argument for why death is bad is that it deprives us of life, of which contains various goods that make life valuable. Nagel supports his argument by saying that if he [the man] had not died, he would have continued to live it, and to possess whatever good there is in living (772). He continues to list goods such as perception, desire, activity and thought (769) as he believes that these are the essential elements to a person meaningful life. Though Nagel concedes that the goods he listed entail both joy and misery, as they are also fundamental factors of life, he also believes that a life which has more misery than it does joy is still desirable and should not make death seem like a better option as it ends the misery. His reasoning for this belief is that while a life may have more negative experiences than positive experiences, it is still emphatically positive, (770) as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects of a Rising Population with Dwindling Water Resources Water is a non renewable resource that is being threatened by America s exponential population growth and increasing water consumption per capita. The future is tiptoeing its way forward, and until the magnitude of this reality is acknowledged, the U.S. will fail to prepare for a potential loss of resources. America s population growth, especially paired with its decreasing water supply, will lead to a synthesis of issues threatening America s industries, living conditions, overall health, environment, and economy. America s population is growing rapidly as a result of several different factors and will come with a cost. A consequence of our modern medical technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When addressing the nature of water changes, it is critical to distinguish droughts departures from a local climatological norm that is presumed known from actual dryness itself. After conceptually separating the two, it was found that America was not just in a temporary drought but would continue to grow drier. (Sherwood) A key component that many high profile climate reports fail to consider is that with warming land, more rain is needed to sustain it. Although many regions will get more rain, few will get enough to match the growing evaporative demand. If this demand is not met, precipitation will continue to decrease, and our water resource will continue to shrink. (Sherwood) Although humans could take further measures to reserve additional freshwater, humans already appropriate over 50 percent of all available renewable freshwater. (Srinivasan) Because water consumption is proportional to the available amount of water, as America s freshwater supply drops they begin to use a higher percentage of this valuable resource, leaving little amounts of water for other purposes. (Sherwood) To compensate for this high use of water, America must put caps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Nfl Is Exempt From Paying Taxes As of 2014, the NFL operates as a non profit organization the NFL is exempt from paying taxes. However, even though the Carolina Panthers is under the NFL, it is operating as a for profit business (Patrick Doyle 2014). Therefore, like all for profit businesses, the Panthers should ideally generate a profitable income to continue operating. As a result, the Panthers financial health or future earnings is a quantitative criteria we included in our recommendation. In 2013, the Panthers not only generated $283 million in revenue but also incurred over $150 million in costs (Statista 2014). Due to the Panthers amazing playoffs in the previous years, Forbes Valuation before Greg Hardy s incident has projected the Panthers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the table, sponsorships, merchandise, and ticket sales account for 60 percent of the Panthers earnings. In our analysis, we conservatively assumed that Greg Hardy s domestic violence incident will directly reduce the above mentioned revenue sources. Greg Hardy s Effect on Panthers Sponsorships Ever since Greg Hardy s recent domestic violence incident, most of the Panthers major corporate sponsors (Bank of America, PepsiCo, MillerCoors, Carolinas Medical Center, Anheuser Busch InBev, and U.S. Airways) issued their statements of disapproval and urged the team to address this issue appropriately. Although Erik Spanberg and Adam O Daniel (2014) stated that none of the Panthers financial sponsors will likely pull away from their donations, these major corporate sponsors don t want to further tarnish their reputation with the NFL s bad publicity. Nonetheless, if a NFL s future decision regarding domestic violence, a widely debated topic in the NFL, generates more negative publicity, these major corporations are willing to stop sponsoring their teams. For example, due to the Adrian Peterson s famous domestic violence and child abuse case, major sponsor Nike issued the following statement: Nike in no way condones child abuse or domestic violence of any kind and has shared our concerns with the NFL. We have suspended our contract with Adrian Peterson (Molly Geary 2014). From referencing precedents on sponsors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Anthropomorphism And Forest Animals It can be suggested that Bambi s success in generating public support was a result of personifying the forest animals. Bambi and his friends were given voices, thoughts, and emotions such as fear, love, even curiosity that made them relatable to viewers. Anthropomorphism, by definition, is the attribution of human characteristics to non human entities (Skibins et al., 2015). The purpose of anthropomorphism in conservation is not to create fictional animal personas, but to create empathy toward these animals and their ecosystems by stressing that animals have many of our characteristics (Chan, 2012). For example, when visiting a zoo, a mother may feel a special connection when seeing a gorilla comfort her baby. By generating this relationship, anthropomorphism poses a chance to increase public care for a species. Though anthropomorphism may have an indirect relationship, it creates relatability between species, and [r]elatability is linked to concern, which can lead to an increased willingness to take conservation actions for a species (Lloyd and Woodside, 2013). Furthermore, anthropomorphism may be applied in public advertising. Projecting human characteristics onto an animal, generating an emotional response, causes a product to become subconsciously memorable. Using such a method in advertising has been shown to create a link between the consumer and the brand. • 41. Goal Vs. Team Goals For Older Athletes It is difficult to say which goal is more important. I think it is very dependent on the age of the athletes. I think for younger athletes who are still learning, the more important goal should be for personal achievement in development, success, performance, and behavior. The team goals should be acknowledged, but the goals should be within the abilities of the athletes. For older athletes in a more professional setting, I think the overall goal for the team should be the main focus. Again, with personal goals not falling to the side, but with a main focus on team goals. If I had to give up one to achieve the other, I think letting go of the team goals for athletes personal success is more important. Again, this has to do with the team goal ... • 42. Global Information Systems ( Gis ) Global Information Systems In this critical essay, I have tried to identify the major processes of designing, developing, and implementing Global Information Systems (GIS). I have also provided the discussion of how the level of Global Information Infrastructures (GII) affects the design, development, and implementation of GIS, and how these processes differ from those in a domestic context. Finally, I have also explained how firms should employ appropriate GII to support these processes. Design, Develop and Implement Global Information Systems Implementing the GIS is a huge challenge for many multi national organizations. There are numerous reasons for which a GIS is required, for example, to provide the base IT support in each and every country, where the business units of the organization are located. A properly designed, developed, and implemented GIS helps exchanging information globally, and has also been flexible enough to provide local features and functionalities (Markus, 2007). An iterative approach is recommended at each phase of design, development, and implementation of a GIS. Throughout the system development process a close connection between the end users, the system analysts, and the technical team becomes a high priority. The end users should be allowed to select, and prioritize the most important requirements. The system analysts should be able to understand and translate the non technical language of end users to the language understandable by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Role of Satan in Paradise Lost The Role of Satan in Paradise Lost John Milton s epic Paradise Lost is one that has brought about much debate since its writing. This epic tells the Biblical story of Adam and Eve, although from a different perspective than what most people usually see. Milton tells the story more through the eyes of Satan, whom most people usually consider the ultimate villain. The way in which Satan is portrayed in this story has caused speculation as to whether Satan is actually a hero in this situation. He certainly has heroic qualities throughout the story, yet still is ultimately responsible for Adam and Eve s sin. Satan can easily be classified as a hero in this story, as well as the main antagonist, depending on the viewpoint of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The character of Satan in this story can also be related to other tragic heroes throughout history. He is a variant of Achilles, who equates honor with his own status...and feels slighted by his commander in chief, refuses his orders and believes himself superior. Both epics turn on the connection between a sense of injur d merit and the hero s wrath. He is Odysseus and Jason on their heroic voyages, leader and chief warrior in battle during and after the War in Heaven, and through it all the most powerful speaker, able to rally and organize his troops with the eloquence of his appeals to their own heroic values. (Forsyth 30). While many arguments can be made to defend Satan as the hero of this story, his power clearly declines throughout the poem. In the end, he does not achieve his goal. Satan is bitter, but also acknowledges the reality of his circumstances (Smith). We see Satan reach his peak, then his power gently declines by the end of the story. Although Satan is powerful and persevering, he is no match for God. We begin to see more of his flaws. Satan is undoubtedly charismatic and persuasive in his speeches, as well as a powerful military leader, yet he seems to be somewhat hypocritical as well. For example, when we are first introduced to Satan, he tells his followers not to be afraid, yet he is afraid himself. Some might view this as Satan being brave, but this could also be viewed as him being deceptive, which illustrates how he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Trials of Oz The Trials of Oz Court as Theatre In the first case, Robertson is not principally involved as counsel for the Oz editors in their obscenity trial. He is just a stage hand for the defence . We note the metaphor: a stage hand is someone who assists at a theatrical production. Robertson frequently recurs to the idea of the court as a theatre and the players in the justice game as actors: Like the squalor behind the splendour of the stage at Convent Garden [the great London opera house], so the solemn ritual of an Old Bailey trial disguised the fact that it was produced in greasepaint and chaos. The solicitors clerks who stage managed the shows would meet to rehearse the cast of the day around the formica tables of the Rex Café ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That the judge is unaware that Hair is a musical is supposed to suggest how out of touch he is with reality. The cumulative effect of this perspective is that if the judge is hard on the allegedly obscene editors and misrepresents their defence to the jurors, this would only be what you would expect of such a second rate individual. Robertson s presentation, based on truth, is heavily influenced by bias and opinion against the judge and, thereby, in favour of the defendants. The eventual verdict of guilty is seen to be inevitable. The editors were sent to prison for psychiatric examination. Reason and Sanity The voices of reason and sanity , writes Robertson, were outraged and an appeal lodged. First, bail was granted by Justice Griffiths, whose decision was made on the advice of his daughter, a young blonde in a denim jacket and jeans . The appeal before the Lord Chief Justice succeeded after he was persuaded that Oz paled in comparison, in terms of obscenity, with numerous other publications freely available. Although Oz died from an overdose of publicity , Robertson makes the telling point that the usual ironic effect of obscenity trials is to heighten public interest in the book or artwork examined. The principal representation of truth in The Trials of Oz is Robertson s detailed presentation of the initial courtroom battle, including lengthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Description And Description Of The Meyers Briggs Personality Upon completing the Meyers Briggs Personality Test I discovered that I was an INFJ. The description and typical personality traits exemplified who I am. Often, I am described as mysterious and difficult to understand. Despite going above and beyond to assist others in around me I keep my thoughts, ideas, and emotions closely guarded. Determining how to phrase my thoughts, ideas and emotions is very difficult and the words often become jumbled in my head. For this reason I am often hesitant to share them with others. When I do present ideas or suggestions they are often regarded as unique and creative. People often come to me for ideas or solutions to problems, knowing that I will work until I come up with a solution. I poses the unique ability to understand and connect with a wide variety of people and personality traits. This makes me a well rounded individual who has the capability of being a great leader, teacher, employee, student, and friend. Being and INFJ has a lot of positive traits that I feel will benefit me during my education and career. I took the Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment quiz. When I taught preschool and as the trainer for my department I have learned that there are many different methods in which people learn.
