The Yellow Press Book Summary
1. The Yellow Press as defined in our book was a battle to sell more newspapers that pitted the
New York World owned by Joseph Pulitzer and the New York Journal owned by William
Randolph Hearst against one another (book p. A 70). Hearst used the color yellow to print his
comics mixing facts with sensationalizing accounts of crime and political corruption with
aggressive appeals to patriot sentiments (book p. 667). Pulitzer and Hearst send reporters to Cuba.
They sent back reports of Spanish cruelty some of which are factual and some that were not. These
stories begin to rile the American people. Also at this time, Thomas Edison invents the motion
picture camera and people are shown newsreels of the Cuban struggles. Atrocities are shown...

The Filipinos had been fighting the Spanish prior to the arrival of the U.S. Aguinaldo knew he
needed a major power to help him with his struggle. Aguinaldo met with Dewey in Hong Kong
and sailed with him to the Philippines. After Dewey s naval victory in the Manila Bay,
Aguinaldo believed he could begin Filipino independence so he formed his government based
on the U.S. Constitution. However, the U. S. turned against him when they annexed the island
nation. McKinley justified his position saying it would take them 100 years to understand what
true freedom means (book, p.672). At the time of the insurrection, America was becoming
aware of the atrocities committed by American troops such as the burning of villages, torture of
POW s, and rape and execution of civilians (book, p.677). Aguinaldo was not treated fairly at all.
If the U.S. was not so short sighted, he could have founded his government. We could have had a
stronger ally during WWII. We were lucky the Japanese were more brutal than we were.
However, in our defense, we did our best to Americanize the island nation by modernizing their
infrastructure, education and medical treatment systems (book, p. 672). Why was this war so
little remembered by the American people? I believe this had a lot to do with Douglas McArthur.
He loved the Filipino people and it about killed him to leave them to the Japanese. He vowed to
return and return he did. He along with his Filipino guerillas defeated the Japanese. After winning
WWII, the Philippines were granted their independence. I believe this is why no one knows about

Questions On Online Analytical Processing
CHAPTER 3
On Line Analytical Processing
Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) applications and tools are those that are designed to ask
complex queries of large multidimensional collections of data. OLAP is used for data mining, as
well as the discovery of undiscerned relationship between data items. Since not all transactional
data is needed for trend analysis, the OLAP database doesn t have to be as large as a data
warehouse. With the use of Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), data can be imported from
existing relational databases to create a multidimensional database for OLAP.
The Need for OLAP: What drives the OLAP system is the multidimensional nature of the business
problem. These problems are characterized by retrieving a very ... Show more content on

The OLAP Guidelines:
Dr. E.F. Codd the father of the relational database model, created a list of rules or yardstick needed
to measure any set of OLAP systems. Users should priorities these rules according to their needs to
match their business requirements.
These rules are:
1)Multidimensional Conceptual View: The OLAP system should provide an appropriate
multidimensional data model that matches the business problems as well as its requirements.
2)Transparency: The OLAP tool should be transparent to users. These transparency helps to improve
efficiency and productivity of users by providing them with the front end tools that are familiar to
them.
3)Accessibility: The OLAP tool should only provide access to data needed to perform a specific
analysis.
4)Consistent Reporting Performance: Its important to ensure that users doesn t experience any form
of degradation in performance due to increase in the size of database.
5)Client/server Architecture: The OLAP system should use the client server architecture to ensure
optimum performance, flexibility, adaptability and interoperability.
6)Generic Dimensionality: The OLAP tool should ensure that the data dimensions entering should
be equivalent to both the structure and operation capabilities.
7)Dynamic Sparse Matrix Handling: The OLAP too should be able to manage the sparse matrix
that is, the system should be able to deduce the distribution of data and adjust the storage so as to
achieve and

Dillon s Rule Research Paper
Dillon s Rule is the cornerstone of American municipal law. Under Dillon s Rule, a municipal
government has authority to act only when in situations as such: the power is granted in the
express words of the statute, private act, or charter creating the municipal corporation, or the
power is necessarily or fairly implied in, or incident to the powers expressly granted and lastly
the power is one that is neither expressly granted nor fairly implied from the express grants of
power, but is otherwise implied as essential to the declared objects and purposes of the corporation.
The Dillon rule is used in interpreting state law when there is a question of whether or not a local
government has a certain power. Judge Forest Dillon, the chief justice

The Flea
John Donne s poem The Flea tells a man s argument in order for a woman to sleep with him. He
uses a flea to explain to the woman that life is too short for someone to be living a short life.
Donne uses meter and symbolism in order to express the main theme of carpe diem. Donne uses
the rhyme scheme that consists of three couplets and one triplet at the end of each stanza. When
he starts a new rhyme, it is almost as if the reader gets a new idea or new concept that the
speaker has made. Donne has limited himself to only ending each rhyme pattern with a one
syllable word. He also uses iambic tetrameter and iambic pentameter. This tells us that Donne put
a certain emphasis on syllables and word placement. In the first stanza the speakers says Mark
this flea which he guess has already sucked the blood from bother persons and is plump and full
(ln1). He suggest that the woman has denied him something, in this case intercourse, but allowed
the flea to metaphorically do the same thing. The male speaker tries to ease the female characters
mind by saying, cannot be said / A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead (lns 5 6). This is a way
of asking her: If you and this insect had a small interaction that is not considered to not be wrong,

The speaker talks about the flea and expresses how it is free to bounce from person to person
freely without being judged. In society today if people have too many partners they are called
players or sluts which is not right. When the speaker says This flea is you and I he means that
they should live freely like the flea (ln 12). Also, when the speaker says that Though parents
grudge, and you, we are met / and cloistered in these living walls of jet, it seems he considers
religious people strive for people to live this lifestyle (lns 14 15). The speaker strongly trusts that
the general norms are controlling the human right to individual

the theoretical framework used during this practice session along with the Current Social Work

Due to the fact that group members during this practice session were close friends, I was
required to use competency skill one. This skill requires social workers to identify as a
professional social worker and conduct oneself accordingly by demonstrating professional
demeanor in behavior, appearance, and communication. In other words, I needed to behave and
communicate with these friends in a professional manner like I would if I were facilitating the
group with actual clients. Crossing my professional boundaries was a challenge due to the fact
that I was not familiar with presenting a professional demeanor around close friends. Also,
during the practice session I noticed personal values was a boundary that was challenging to
manage. This is because I have grown comfortable sharing personal information and opinions
with my friends. Therefore, it was a challenge practicing proper personal disclosure during the
practice session. It is important for a group facilitator to be able to properly disclose because
group sessions are for the betterment of clients; not an opportunity for he/she to share personal
stories and opinions. In other words, group session is for clients, not for the group facilitator.
These were some of the challenges noticed during the practice session for facilitating a couple s

How Is Blanche Dubois A Victim
Streetcar Named Desire Assignment.
Blanche DuBois is a fallen southern heiress to the DuBois empire that is Belle Reve. Born into
wealth, Blanche has never had to work or face the harsh realities that life brings along. The play, A
Streetcar Named Desire shows both parts to the eccentric persona that is Blanche DuBois; the
unfortunate victim of society and the victimizer who uses lies to deceive people to get what she
wants.
Blanche lives in a world that is actually a figment of her vast imagination. A world where she is
in the prime of her youth, laden with young, rich, gentleman admirers who abide to her bidding.
She prefers to live in this fantasy world to distract her from the plight she currently faces in the
present or her past promiscuous lifestyle. Blanche s mental issues started when she came home to
find her husband in bed with another man ( a double blow in the sense that her husband is
unfaithful to her and is homosexual) leading to him taking his own life, widowing her in the ...

separated by world war II and then reunited. Allie and Noah grew up in two different and
opposite life styles. Noah saw the women of his dreams, right there in front of him. Trying to

Noah never forgot about Allie as time went on. He wrote her letters everyday for a whole year.
Not getting any responses back, Allie decides to go see how he s doing at an abandoned house he

they auditioned for the roles they really liked each other. As time went on thought, they did not

the beginning. They had to overcome that and finish the movie. My favorite character is Noah.
Noah never gave up on Allie, and that is true love. Nothing can beat true love. He waited for her
for many years. Gosling was a great actor in the part of Noah. I could relate to Allie the most
because we are both very forgiving. As her and Noah were out in the canoe, she forgave him

Persuasive Essay On Tally Thai
Tally Thai is located at the heart of Pensacola street and will satisfy any person who craves Thai
food in the comfort of their city. Along with the fresh seafood for sushi, Tally Thai has a vest menu
of items, with everything from tasty noodles to miso soup and ginger salad. As an individual who
barely eats sushi, or foodfrom Thailand in general, my roommates recommended that we eat at Tally
Thai for this assignment. The menu, like most traditional places, is organized to easily understand.
Beginning with traditional appetizers, this four page menu continues with soups, salads, then
entrees. To my surprise, the third page listed Thai appetizers, entrees, and sushi rolls, which I found
to be more conventional to culture in Thailand; with this, the menu ended on desserts and drinks, as
most restaurants do. There is no question that the menu is, without a doubt, not authentic instead it
is Americanized. If it were traditional, the rolls, especially, would not have been in english. With
basic names such as Philadelphia Roll and Gator Roll , it is clear to see the menu works with the
environment around it; being in a college town, most students would not be able to understand
names of entrees in a different language. Exemplarily, dishes such as the curryduck would be called
แกงเป็ด in this culture. Not Americanizing this menu would make it
impossible for individuals to order. A few entrees on the menu do, however, represent Thai culture.

Hard Determinism Vs. Negatives
Throughout the years, many different philosophical ideas have been presented to the general
populace. One of these ideas, hard determinism, has presented alleged positives and alleged
negatives. One alleged negative that stands out to me is that no single person is responsible for
their actions, no matter how heinous that action may be. I argue, that throwing moralitycompletely
out of the equation, is a genuine negative of hard determinism. In order to explain my thoughts, we
must first understand the full meaning of hard determinism. In Holbach s essay on hard
determinism, he says, Nevertheless, in spite of the shackles by which he is bound, it is
pretended he is a free agent, or that independent of the causes by which he is moved, he
determines his own will, and regulates his own condition. 1 He explains that free will is an
illusion and that all of our actions are pre determined by prior factors. Prior factors would
include: experiences from the past, how one was raised, genetic makeup and so on. No matter
what you decide to do, you will never actually have a say in it because everything in your life has
led up to that point. For example; if one man is walking down the street and bumps into another
man, how the second man reacts will have been predetermined therefore not making him liable
for those actions. Say he decides to accept the man s apology and goes on with his day. This is
due to the way he was raised and his genetic makeup, not because of his own

Figurative Language In Stephen King s On Writing
1.
Many skilled authors use literary elements and techniques in their stories; for example, imagery,
dialogue, and figurative language. Not only do these authors use this devices, they use them
correctly. Stephen King, the author of On Writing and many other novels, uses these a lot
throughout his novels.
Figurative language and imagery plays a huge role in developing King s novel. The
Rag s office was a table located in the dirt floored, rock walled, spider infested confines of our
basement, somewhere north of the furnace and east of the root cellar, where Clayt and Ella s
endless cartons of preserves and canned vegetables were kept (pg. 42). The author uses great
imagery in this passage in which he is describing the area where his brother worked. This is
effective because it allows the reader to envision the workspace. Grammar is not just a pain in the
ass; it s the pole you grab to get your thoughts up on their feet and walking (pg. 121). This is a
metaphor, which is the comparison of two things by just stating that one thing is the other.
Another example of this would be, Plot is a far bigger tool, the writer s jackhammer (pg. 164).
In the first example, grammar is being compared to a pole that a writer grabs hold of. In the second
sentence, King is comparing plot to a jackhammer, and it is effective to get the point across and
explain the things, grammar and plot in these examples, in an interesting way. In the first sentence,
there is also an example of

The Testament Of The Bible
The Bible simply says in Isaiah 55:9, For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My
ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. God does work His wonders
in ways that are beyond finding out! The congregation at Calvary has heard repeatedly about the
classic book called Pilgrims Progress. In this timeless book there is a man named Mr. Worldly
Wise. It doesn t take long for a Christian to realize that he shouldn t have listened to this man. Mr.
Worldly Wise does not have the mind of God. There would appear to be great wisdom coming
from his mouth, but it s not from God. Something that will have to be accepted by faith, no
matter how good the intentions, if the direction that a person is going is not governed by God s
wisdom, that journey, that path, will end in hopelessness. The Church, His blood bought
Church, has the special revelation called the New Testament. One would think, with all the
technology, modern science and medicine, that the Church would evolve to a place in society
where the message of reaching the world would be different than it was when the Church began.
But lest we forget the declaration of Isaiah, His ways are not our ways. The giant gulf that
separates God and man is impassable. There is no way to get from here to there apart from the
wisdom of God. His wisdom is completely separate from worldly wisdom. As Paul makes clear in 1
Corinthians 1:18 25, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are

Impressionism as a Avant-garde Movement
1.INTRODUCTION
This essay analyses the aesthetic and ideological underpinnings of the Modernist artwork,
Impression, Sunrise of Claude Monet. The artwork and Impressionism is considered to be a visual
articulation of the avant garde and the latter statement is explained. References to the writings of
Charles Harrison, Clement Greenberg and Wilhelm Worringer is used to theorise the aesthetics of
modernity.
2.IMPRESSIONISM AS MODERN ART
Modernism is the heartbeat of culture, or as Clement Greenberg (1992:754) states, modernism
involves of what is truly alive in our culture and it includes more than just art and literature.
Western civilization began to interrogate their foundations and progressed into a self critical
society (Greenberg 1992:754). This notion began with the theories of the philosopher Immanuel
Kant (1724 1804); he criticized the means itself of criticism (Greenberg 1992:754). Therefore,
Greenberg (1992:754) perceived Kant as the first real Modernist.
An avant garde or modern movement is a movement that is experimental, artists push boundaries,
are committed to change and are brave. Impressionism slots in perfectly to the definition of avant
garde. The Impressionists took the first steps into modernism as a self critical movement
(Greenberg 1992:755). To a modern understanding, the Impressionist paintings are among the most
instantly enjoyable works of art (Thomas 1987:9).
The first Modernist paintings were produced by Edouard Manet (Greenberg

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Communication
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a well recognized television show that ran from 1997 to 2003. The
show won fifty two awards and was nominated for a total of 192 awards. The episode Hush was
the tenth episode in the fourth season. It aired on December 14, 1999. The directors and writers of
the show use the voices of the characters in the episode to symbolize their feelings and how they
express them. The characters losing their voices is a symbolic representation of how the characters
express their feelings towards each other, illustrating that talking is not the only way to
communicate. In the episode, Willow and Tara hardly speak to each other, although it is notable
that they want to speak to each other. With the Gentlemen taking their voices, the girls come
together and become closer without having to speak at all. Without their voices, they come to

Willow and Tara can not verbally talk to communicate, once the Gentlemen are gone and they get

Economics of an Urgent Care Center in a Market of Emergency Departments
One of the contributors to the rising cost of Healthcare can be attributed to the over use of
emergency departments (EDs) for non emergency needs. In the greater Capitol/First/Beacon Hill
area there are three major hospitals (Virginia Mason, Harborview, and Swedish) with emergency
rooms and no urgent care centers with the exception of Group Health which is restricted to Group
Health insurance members.
The question I asked myself is, Why does Group Health have urgent care for their insurance plan
members and the major hospitals in Seattle do not.
Urgent vs. Emergency Care
A study by the CDC showed that approximately 70 % of emergency department visits can be ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will reduce the demand for ED visits and the ratio of patients with insurance to offset the cost
of uncompensated care. With a decrease in demand we should see a decrease in the cost of
emergency room visits as more patients get their non emergency care at urgent care centers. The
new healthcare reform will eventually reduce the burden on hospitals and insurance companies by
providing the means for everyone to have healthcare and increase the ratio of insured patients
seeking treatment.
Urgent Care Economics
Unlike an emergency department, urgent care centers do not charge facility fees. Insurance
companies and patients are only charged for services rendered. Urgent care centers provide a high
level of non emergency care at a similar cost as it would to visit a doctor s office which is about 1
/10th of the cost of an emergency room visit. This includes minor procedures such as lacerations
that need sutures, minor burns, casting of fractures, reduction of dislocated joints, and on the job
injuries.
Urgent care centers are for profit and are not required to provide indigent care, but do not have the
tax benefits of a not for profit hospital.
The quality of care in an urgent care center is just a good in an emergency department for non
emergency care. The differentiating factor is follow up care. Most emergency department
physicians do not see their patients for follow up care and only 2/3 of the patients will follow

The Indian Independence Movement
The history of the Indian Independence Movement against the British in the 20th Century was
evidently influenced and motivated by the underlying differences and perceptions of communal
identities. The freedom struggle in essence was also an assertion of the interests and aspirations of
the diverse communities of the Indian subcontinent. The Indian National Congressand the Muslim
League were the two big powers that sought to mobilize public sentiments in the quest for
Independence. While the Muslim League (formed in 1906), stood as a symbol of Islamic
nationalism, the INC on the other hand was seen as pro Hindu (with a strong influence of radical
groups like the Hindu Mahasabha).
Mohammad Ali Jinnah, initially a Congress nationalist, joined the Muslim League in 1913 in order
to align the views of the two communities in their collective struggle for freedom. The result was
The Lucknow Pact which laid down the constitutional framework of seat and power sharing
arrangements for elections to the Provincial Legislative Councils. Muslims were provided with
separate electorates and one third representation in the Central government. Congress that claimed
to fight only for secular goals and considered religion as a private matter of individual granted the
separate electorates for Muslim went against their very own ideologies. This lead to the settlement
of differences between the two parties and immediate goal of both the parties through the pact

The patient is a 64 year old gentleman who tells me nine or 10 days ago he started having pain in
his right shoulder which started in the morning. He states that prior to this he has been doing
increased amount of work at his horse farm. He has had to not only bale hay, he has needed to
lift 15 car batteries up onto a platform. He also tells me he caught a heavy I beam and felt a jerk
of his shoulder several days prior to onset of pain. He states the day after the onset of the pain, he
had such back pain, he had a difficult time sleeping. He was taking Advil every six hours, but
this was not helping the pain. At that point, the pain was gone up not only in his right shoulder
but going up his neck and down his arm. He tells me that he then switched to Aleve, two tablets
twice a day and started using ice alternating with heat. He states the ice seems to work magic for
him and one week after the pain started he woke in the morning and had no pain. He states that

My Aphorism
My aphorism is hold tight to your roots but be open to the future. This is aphorism really relates
to me and what I believe in. It shows the importance of knowing who you are but also being open
to new things to come in the future. Holding tight to your roots means remembering where you
came from and what standards and ideals are important to you. In my aphorism when I say be
open to the future it means being open to new ways of thinking and change later on in your life.
My aphorism means remembering who you are but not letting that hold you back in the future.
My aphorism is important because it tells you to remember who you are, where you came from,
and to remember the ideals and standards that you have. Also, be open to other ideas or things
happening in your life in the future. To me my aphorism means holding on to my ideals and
standards and knowing where I came from. Even later on in life towards the future I will always
remember who I am but be open to new things that are to come. My aphorism shapes and effects
my decisions because when I make my decisions I remember who I am and my standards. I also
know to be open to new things in life and new ways of thinking. The aphorism I have chosen has
helped me to not be so stubborn. It has also helped me to be more open to change. My aphorism
can help an individual because anyone can relate to it. Everyone has roots. Most people have a
specific set of standards that they try to live by. My aphorism can also help by showing people
what they already know but then expounding on that ideain the future. The good that people can
find in my aphorism is the fact that it can relate to anybody s life. In my aphorism it talks about
remembering who you are and where you came from but still being open to new things life. The
good that it shows is remembering who you are but being open to the future to come. The effect
of ignoring my aphorism is not being able to be open to new ideas and ways of thinking in the
future. Not being able to remember your roots and where you came from. You lose your identity
and who you really truly are. Society would benefit from living by my aphorism because it would
show society to remember who they are and their

The Destruction Of Food Production
The prehistoric ancestors of humanity spent most of their time in the pursuit of food. Civilization
sprung up as food harvesting and farming became more optimized and specialized. The
procurement of food declined as the greatest usage of human time. The efficiency of food
production has allowed humanity to thrive on the different industrial and technological revolutions,
and create a better standard of living for many people. Lizzie Widdicombe in the End of Foodwrites
about Soylent, a overall food substitute that aims to replace regular food. According to its creator,
Soylent has a lower cost, and is more efficient than regular food products and aims to progressive
the advancement of food efficiency started by our ancestors. This new product and the market
category it represents has the potential to eradicate hunger, and the time usage in producing and
prepping food. Nevertheless, Soylent and its counterparts can have potentially catastrophic
consequences for humanity. The quest for food, is one of the most important defining
characteristics of life and nature. Food has thus shaped much of human history. The ancient
civilization of Mesopotamia for example was fueled by the first agricultural revolution which
introduced innovations in food production such as the domestication of plants and animals. The
sedentary living that most people enjoy today is a benefit of the greater efficiencies created by the
first agricultural revolution. While the first agricultural

San Luis Obispo History Center: Walking up to the San Luis Obispo History center was confusing
at first, seeing the free library sign caught me off guard but the inside was different than I expected.
This was my first time at the center and I always figured that it was just another random house that
was built on the outskirts of San Luis Obispo, but what I found inside was actually quite interesting.
The employee at the center was actually quite insightful and discussed how the center is changing

big posters that stood out to catch the viewer s eye then more detailed artifacts to really give
perspective. I thought the layout of the center was well put together in a fashion that showed a
lot so you could learn a lot, but didn t have too much so a viewer wouldn t get lost within the

one sign outside it s hard to attract anyone that s not specifically looking for it. If I was passing

After one hour of trying to figure out what was happening to my business, I was more confused
than ever.
I sent an email to EBay the day after trying to enquire why my store was cancelled and EBay
replied back with an automated email with information that was not relevant to my case.
What made the Incident dissatisfying * There was no customer support system set up in
Australia. * Customer had to contact service support in America. * Communication was really
poor, no reply was made on EBay s behalf through phone or email. * The operator was rude and
lacked communication skills. * No service recovery was in place, or customers weren t provided
with another option. * Level of attention was low, the operator didn t care and showed frustration
really easily.
What could or should have been done differently
This whole incident could have been prevented if there was actually a customer service support
based in Australia, or if EBay actively replied to customers regarding their specific issues, instead of
replying via an automated email system that sent out generic responses. The operator could have
handled the situation much more efficiently, instead of letting the situation control her attitude. It
seems that EBay had no recovery strategy in place to combat these complex issues and they only

British Columbia V Fraser Health Authority Case Study
Introduction/Background
The British Columbia (Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal) v. Fraser Health Authority, 2016
SCC 25 [Fraser Health Authority] is a civil tort claim that deals with workers compensation
coverage for occupational disease and determining causation. The applicants were three of the
seven laboratory technicians employed at Mission Memorial Hospital who were diagnosed with
breast cancer. Katrina Hammer, Patricia Schmidt, and Anne MacFarlane argued that there is a
causation between their workplace and their development of breast cancer. They each applied for
compensation under the Workers Compensation Act (Act) on the basis that the cancer was an
occupational disease which was denied by Compensation review officer Hammer, ... Show more

They questioned the approach taken by the Tribunal in its approach to determine causation. The
Tribunal appealed to the Supreme Court to re examine earlier decisions to determine whether they
were unreasonable. The parties involved in this case are the Fraser Health Authority along with
Hammer, Schmidt and MacFarlane. In a split decision, the majority emphasized the need for
evidence to determine causation. The decision in Fraser Health Authority was not unanimous, as
Justice CГґtГ© provided the dissenting. Whereas, Justice McLachlin C, Abella, Moldaver,
Karaktanis, Wagner and Brown JJ provided the majority. Interveners in this case include the
Attorney General of Canada, the Attorney General of Ontario, the Ontario Network of Injured
Workers Groups, the Industrial Accident Victims Group of Ontario, the Community Legal
Assistance Society and the British Columbia Federation of Labour. The SCC had to establish
whether the WCAT has exclusive jurisdiction to determine, on appeal under the Act, whether the
nature of the employment was linked to the development of the workers breast

Calculus, Leibniz and Newton Essay
It is interesting to note that the ongoing controversy concerning the so called conflict between
Wilhelm Gottfried Leibniz and Isaac Newton is one that does not bare much merit. Whether one
came up with the concepts of calculus are insignificant since the outcome was that future
generations benefited. However, the logic of their clash does bear merit. In proposing that he was
the first inventor, Leibniz states that it is most useful that the true origins of memorable inventions
be known, especially of those that were conceive not by accident but by an effort of meditation.
The use of this is not merely that history may give everyone his due and others be spurred by the
expectation of similar praise, but also that the art of discovery... Show more content on

At age eighteen, Newton was admitted to Trinity College, Cambridge. Leibniz decided to
acknowledge family tradition by studying law and philosophy at the University of Leipzig,
where at age seventeen, he was already defending his master s thesis, De Principio Individui.
Newton s mathematical acumen came to the fore when he read Rene Descartes Geometry and
John Wallis Arithmetica Infinitorium. It was around this time that he was convinced that he
would arrive at a conclusion where by analysis could be made on geometric curve via algebra
albeit calculus. Furthermore, Newton would improve on Wallis Infinite Series by devising
proofs of the various theorems. He was then conferred as a scholar at Trinity in 1664 but the
following year, England was hit with plague and Cambridge was no exceptions; the university
closed till 1667. By the time, Newton returned to Cambridge, he had already written material for
Opticks, in which he stated that just a prism can split white light into this spectrum of colors, so
can a second prism return the separated colors into white light. Consequently, he also laid
foundation for one his greatest works, the law of universal gravitation which would be published
in his Principia by the 1680s. Now speaking of calculus and improving on the work of John Wallis,
he arrived at his methods of fluxions and fluents (in his unpublished work De

Motor Vehicle Safety Essays
Motor Vehicle Safety
Motor accidents are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States. In the
year 2000 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated that around
41,000 people were killed in traffic accidents within the United States. This mortality rate has
since dropped 25% from 2000 to 2009 (Rockett et al., 2012). There are many reasons for motor
vehicle injuries, ranging from lack of seat belt use, elderly drivers, alcohol and young children
being improperly secured. All of these things factor into motor injuries differently and must be
addressed as a separate problem. Highway safety is an important issue in public health and many
things have already been implemented to help reduce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

programs. Programs such as Remove Intoxicated Drivers (RID) in 1978 and Mothers Against Drunk
Driving (MADD) in 1980. These programs were created by people personally affected by a
accident caused by drunk driving. Their focus is to prevent the loss of loved ones for other
families. These programs educate the public on the risks of DUI and promote safer driving and
smarter choices. MADD has even received support from alcohol companies because of their focus
on the offender, and not blaming the alcohol companies. Alcohol related highway fatalities in 1982
were at 57% of all fatalities. This number dropped to only 38% by 1999.
In 2005 vehicle crashes were a leading cause of injury and death for children over the age of one.
510 children 3 years or younger were killed in a highway accidents in 2005.Proper restraint for
children must be used until they have reached the recommend height. Child restraint systems for
children help to reduce serious injury by up to 70% in an accident. (Anderson Rice, 2009)
Simply restraining the child with a seatbelt though is not enough. For children under the age of 5,
child safety seats are far more effective then seat belts at preventing injuries in a crash. Until the
child is old enough or tall enough to use a seat belt child safety seats are far superior then seat
belts. It is up to the parent or guardian to ensure

Life Is A Game Of Chance
Jews were beaten and killed for no reason. Jews during that time were no longer regarded as full
citizens, they were victims. There were several times that Vladek mentioned that God never
came. Vladek s experiences in the camp show how many Jews must have felt at that time that
they were abandoned by their God. Art Spiegelman is suggesting that life is a game of chance, or
rather a series of events that are fated or at least influenced by a divine power. Life is governed
solely by chance and why, during the Holocaust, some people survived while others did not. When
Spiegelman is looking for answers, and talks to his therapist it reinforces this idea Yes, life
always takes the side of life, and somehow the victims are blamed. But it wasn t the best people
who survived, nor did the best ones die. It was random! (45) Pavel reminds us that those who
survived were not necessarily the most deserving. That can only increase the guilt that the
survivors felt, who may have felt they had no right to survive when more deserving people died.
I believe that this is both a negative and positive message. Spiegelman shows that during the
Holocaust it didn t matter if you were rich, poor, and successful or not you could easily be put to
your death. Typically death is fairly random and so is survival, but with the Holocaust instead of
being random, groups were targeted. Religionattempts to make sense out of the world around us,

There are many challenges to ministry in today s world and having a vital and relevant ministry is
even harder. Churches across all denominations face drastic declines in both attendees and financial

essay sets out to examine and design a process by which the Churches of Cherokee, Oklahoma can

Finally, action is the last step in the process before the process begins again. Action is the
considered response from the organization to answer the need or experience that was discovered
during the experience portion of the cycle. While on the surface this appears to be a simple four
step process, however, when used to the fullest extent the cycle of examination never really stops,
the ministry is always at one point or the other within the cycle. (1)
The context chosen for this essay is the intercultural needs of Cherokee, Oklahoma. The
community of Cherokee is primarily a rural agricultural and ranching community. This community
was settled during the Oklahoma land run of 1893 primarily by immigrants of German decent. (2)
However, in the past two years the community has seen a population explosion due to the new oil
production method called fracking. With this discovery more than three thousand oil field workers
have moved into and around Alfalfa County and the city of Cherokee. While many of these
workers return to homes on the weekend a large portion of those workers have moved their
families into Cherokee and the surrounding communities. One of the primary ethnic groups
represented in this group are Hispanic. One of the key issues facing the churches, social services

My Tennis Life Has Changed My Life
My Tennis Life The one event that changed my life forever was when my dad first took me to
the tennis courts when I was only three years old. Tennis has always been my father s passion and
he wanted to pass that on to me. As every young toddler, I would watch cartoons and children s
shows, but when my dad would get home, I would watch tenniswith him and it was equally
interesting to me, even at a very young age. My life has evolved around the experience I have
gained from tennis and wouldn t be the same without it. This one time that my dad took me to the
tennis courts, even though it was such a simple action, has changed my future eternally and nothing
would be the same if that had never happened.
The day that my dad took me to the courts, pictures show me carrying a Dora junior racket while
wearing a Daddy s little Princess shirt and I was overjoyed. In the early years of my life after
tennis was introduced to me, every day I would go with my dad and chase after tennis balls,
without really being able to play yet, while the sun was setting. Even though it was so long ago, I
remember feeling tiny compared to the enormous and intimidating tennis court in front of me. My
main and the most vivid memories of these times were after practice when my father and I would
go to our favorite ice cream shop, Baskin Robbins, and order the same thing as each other every
time.
As I got older, I started playing even more and played tournaments and got approached by new
coaches.

False Prince Quotes
My father said a person can be educated and still be stupid, and a wise man can have no education
at all (ch. 6) is a quote from the book The false Prince, by Jennifer A. Nielsen. I think this quote
connects to the characters through representing the differences in Tobias, Roden and Sage, through
reflecting Conner s personality and planand through describing Verldegrath and his plans for
Carthya s future.
The quotes shows and represents the relationship between Tobias, Roden and Sage. From all the
three boys, Tobias is the most educated one. However, throughout the book, he is not the one
making the wisest decisions.
**option 1** Do you fight on, knowing you ll likely die, or stop the battle and beg for your
opponent s mercy? Conner turned to me. Sage? Beg mercy. Roden snorted. I continued. Then when
my opponent lowers his guard, certain of his victory, I d finish the battle. Conner laughed. When
Conner asks this question to all three boys, Tobias and Roden simply answer one of the options.

In the case of Purina Petcare, the employees are encouraged, but not forced, to bring their pets to
work to help reduce stress and increase co worker interaction. Bringing in their pets has served
as a good conversation starter and participating in wellness activities has contributed to an
overall stress reduction in the employees lives, improving not only their work identity, but also
their home identity. The functionalism ideology is used by showing that progress in the
workplace was made when employees were allowed to bring in their pets. The goal of this
ideology is to make generalizations about human behavior in specific organizations. At Purina

How To Match American Culture
The culture and American society is a new experience, but I have to learn to adapt. There is a lot
of culture shock when trying to match American society. As an American we must learn to
understand jokes and sarcasticism. It is a system of social sharing, learned the values and
norms; this is the design of the society to live. It affects the way we view the fl at, habits,
preferences and our way we relate to other people. Value is a summary of the ideas that are on the
good things, right and desirable. The target is the social rules and guidelines. Most American
foods are French fries, burgers and such. Many foods come from abroad. My interest in education.
US Education is provided mainly by the government, control and funding coming from three levels:
federal, state and local. It emphasizes the personal worth. It is possible in the pursuit of freedom
and democracy, development and advocacy of competition. Personal... Show more content on

Most African Americans were brought to the US reluctance and slavery. In the eyes of a tropical
landscape in everything except the man. It takes in dry soil, prickly pears, palm trees and the
distant mountains, but it always remember farmers hoe in his patch. He was the same color as
the earth, and very little fun to look at. Even after slavery was prohibited African Americans still
face difficulties in become equal. With organizations like, NAACP and influential people such as
Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr., the rights for African Americans have
increasingly been improving in the US. Asians are considered as one of the fastest growing groups
in North America and they are varied with ethnicity and language, China, Japan, and Korea. The
first Asian American settlers originally emigrated to Mexico and then moved to what is now
Louisiana. When thousands of Japanese Americans were to go from isolated camps after WWII

The Nativity Story And The Gospel Of Matthew
The film The Nativity Story shares many similarities with the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew was
writing for the Jews, so his Gospel focuses primarily on Jesus being the messiah because he
fulfills the prophecies. His Gospel also focuses on the paternal side of Jesus s birth, since Joseph
being from the line of David connects Jesusto the Old Testament Covenant with David. In the film,
Joseph s perception of the events at had is often portrayed. Showing the story through his eyes. We
also get insight into is his thoughts on occasions, which furthers the films parallels to the Gospel of
Matthew. Within Matthew s Gospel, there are five key details used to connect the birth of Jesus to
the Old Testament prophecies, all of which appear in the film.
First, the film begins and ends with the massacre of innocents, the first key detail. This slaughter
of innocents was ordered by Herod as a way of preserving his throne. He was worried that the
king of kings was coming to end him, and he wanted to ensure that his throne was safe. He is the
second detail. This slaughter of innocents is what caused Joseph to take Mary and Jesus and flee
to Egypt, the third key detail. Just like in the Bible, God spoke to Joseph in a dream, telling him to
take his family and flee to Egypt, only returning when he was instructed. Had Joseph not done this,
Jesus may not have survived to save us from our sins. Next in the film comes the wise men, the
fourth detail. These wisemen come from the east, showing the

Dr. Joseph Lifschutz s Case Essay
I. Facts of the Case: Dr. Joseph Lifschutz was a practicing psychiatrist in California and sought a
writ of habeas corpus to be released from custody in the county of San Mateo California. Dr.
Lifschutz was found in contempt of court and was arrested for refusing to obey an order of the San
Mateo court ordering his release of records relating to him and one of his patients. Dr. Lifscutz did
not follow the order because he believed the order from the court was unconstitutional, violating his
constitutional right to privacy. Joseph Housek had been a patient of Dr. Lifscutz for around six
months. As a result of being assaulted, he sued his assailant. In an attempt to discredit the case, the
defense wanted information to try to prove the plaintiff was not competent. Lifschutz refused to
give up client records. According to Stanford Law, He also attacks the order, or more specifically,
the statutory provisions which authorize the compulsion of his testimony in these circumstances, as
unconstitutionally denying him the equal protection of the laws since, under California law,
clergymen could not be compelled to reveal certain confidential communications under these
circumstances. Defendant Arabian deposed the plaintiff and during the course of that deposition
Housek stated that he had received psychiatric treatment from Dr. Lifschutz over a six month period
approximately 10 years earlier. Nothing in the record indicates that the plaintiff revealed the nature

Essay On German Boy A Child In War
Book Reflection: German Boy: A Child in War
Overview
As the allies and the Soviets continually make ground against Nazi Germany, the realm in which
the term victims would be used equally makes deviations. This state lasted for more than a decade,
but is minutely appreciated by many particularly because many refute to perceive the people of
Germany as victims from any angle. After all, very few casualties were from this region when
compared to those that experienced the full extent of depravity in the hands of the Nazi Germany.
The distinction between the Nazi aspect of this country and the bit of it that did not hold such a
burly conviction is an issue many at the time were not interested appreciating; every German was
viewed as a Nazi.
German Boy: A Child in War by Wolfgang Samuel is a book based on the true story of the plight
of the German people as the Third Reich crumbled in the 1940s. It tells of a side of the story that
many readers could not have found anywhere else as not many would tell it as Wolfgang has.
Themes Used
There are voices that need to be heard, there is so much to communicate yet no ears are there to
satisfy such yearnings. The work by Wolfgang revolves around the plight of the people of Germans
as the Third Reich crumbled. It is a side of the repeatedly told tale that very few are aware of;
people, including children like Wolfgang, paying the price for depravities they did not take part in
or even know of. All through the work, the plot

advanced and powerful iPad (Apple, 2015a) the company has ever created. Referred to as the iPad
Pro, the tablet features a 12.9 inch Retina display with 5.6 million pixels and additional accessories

From that, it can be proposed that through discussing a company s policy set by the management an
aspect of the internal environment is being analyzed. In this report, Apple s mission to minimize the
impact the Apple products have on the environment will be discussed and argued as a factor that
can aid towards successful management of profitable relationships.
Environmental policy
Apple s management implementing certain policies and values efforts to create market demand for
its products. For instance, the company s stance against climate change (Apple, 2015b) indicates its
commitment to sustainability. Stated in the company s 2015 Environmental Responsibility Report,
Apple upholds its stance through renewable energy usage and eliminating destructive usage of
paper (2015b). This is effective as this will satisfy consumer demand for sustainable products and in
that way will attract new customers and ensure retention of existing customers that are keen to
contribute towards saving the environment.
Microenvironment
The marketing environment is not only concerned with factors internal to the organization but also
those outside it. This is true for the microenvironment, which can be described as the actors within
or close to the company that affect its ability to serve customers (Armstrong and Kotler, 2015). In
this report, actors customers and competitors will be analyzed with regards to

Angela Davis Influences
We have to recognize the intersectionality, the interconnectedness of all of these institutions and
attitudes. Angela Yvonne Davis Angela Davis is one of the most influential women when it comes
to feminism, race, and politics, just to name a few. She has paved the way for many generations of
women to have a voice when they once wouldn t. It is essential to realize that one can t discuss
feminism and black power without discussing Angela Davis. The reason I chose Angela Davis is
because she is a household name that I have always heard, but had never known much of. I think it
s deeply important to understand the impact she s had on the feminist movement, specifically for
women of color.
Angela Yvonne Davis was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 26, 1944 to Sallye Davis and
Frank Davis. Sallye was an elementary school teacher who was faithfully involved in the civil
rights movement. Her father, Frank, owned a gas service station. Davis attended elementary
through some of her high school education in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. She finished
out the rest of her high school career in New York, where her mother was earning her master s
degree. She went to Elizabeth Irwin High School. At the time, this school was considered
progressive, because many of the teachers there were blacklisted for alleged communist actions they
took during the McCarthy era. Davis attended Brandeis University in Massachusetts, where she
studied philosophy. She attended the University of

  • 2. The Yellow Press Book Summary 1. The Yellow Press as defined in our book was a battle to sell more newspapers that pitted the New York World owned by Joseph Pulitzer and the New York Journal owned by William Randolph Hearst against one another (book p. A 70). Hearst used the color yellow to print his comics mixing facts with sensationalizing accounts of crime and political corruption with aggressive appeals to patriot sentiments (book p. 667). Pulitzer and Hearst send reporters to Cuba. They sent back reports of Spanish cruelty some of which are factual and some that were not. These stories begin to rile the American people. Also at this time, Thomas Edison invents the motion picture camera and people are shown newsreels of the Cuban struggles. Atrocities are shown... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Filipinos had been fighting the Spanish prior to the arrival of the U.S. Aguinaldo knew he needed a major power to help him with his struggle. Aguinaldo met with Dewey in Hong Kong and sailed with him to the Philippines. After Dewey s naval victory in the Manila Bay, Aguinaldo believed he could begin Filipino independence so he formed his government based on the U.S. Constitution. However, the U. S. turned against him when they annexed the island nation. McKinley justified his position saying it would take them 100 years to understand what true freedom means (book, p.672). At the time of the insurrection, America was becoming aware of the atrocities committed by American troops such as the burning of villages, torture of POW s, and rape and execution of civilians (book, p.677). Aguinaldo was not treated fairly at all. If the U.S. was not so short sighted, he could have founded his government. We could have had a stronger ally during WWII. We were lucky the Japanese were more brutal than we were. However, in our defense, we did our best to Americanize the island nation by modernizing their infrastructure, education and medical treatment systems (book, p. 672). Why was this war so little remembered by the American people? I believe this had a lot to do with Douglas McArthur. He loved the Filipino people and it about killed him to leave them to the Japanese. He vowed to return and return he did. He along with his Filipino guerillas defeated the Japanese. After winning WWII, the Philippines were granted their independence. I believe this is why no one knows about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

OLAP is used for data mining, as well as the discovery of undiscerned relationship between data items. Since not all transactional data is needed for trend analysis, the OLAP database doesn t have to be as large as a data warehouse. • 5. The Flea John Donne s poem The Flea tells a man s argument in order for a woman to sleep with him. He uses a flea to explain to the woman that life is too short for someone to be living a short life. Donne uses meter and symbolism in order to express the main theme of carpe diem. Donne uses the rhyme scheme that consists of three couplets and one triplet at the end of each stanza. When he starts a new rhyme, it is almost as if the reader gets a new idea or new concept that the speaker has made. Donne has limited himself to only ending each rhyme pattern with a one syllable word. He also uses iambic tetrameter and iambic pentameter. This tells us that Donne put a certain emphasis on syllables and word placement. In the first stanza the speakers says Mark this flea which he guess has already sucked the blood from bother persons and is plump and full (ln1). He suggest that the woman has denied him something, in this case intercourse, but allowed the flea to metaphorically do the same thing. The male speaker tries to ease the female characters mind by saying, cannot be said / A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead (lns 5 6). • 12. Persuasive Essay On Tally Thai Tally Thai is located at the heart of Pensacola street and will satisfy any person who craves Thai food in the comfort of their city. Along with the fresh seafood for sushi, Tally Thai has a vest menu of items, with everything from tasty noodles to miso soup and ginger salad. As an individual who barely eats sushi, or foodfrom Thailand in general, my roommates recommended that we eat at Tally Thai for this assignment. The menu, like most traditional places, is organized to easily understand. Beginning with traditional appetizers, this four page menu continues with soups, salads, then entrees. To my surprise, the third page listed Thai appetizers, entrees, and sushi rolls, which I found to be more conventional to culture in Thailand; with this, the menu ended on desserts and drinks, as most restaurants do. There is no question that the menu is, without a doubt, not authentic instead it is Americanized. If it were traditional, the rolls, especially, would not have been in english. With basic names such as Philadelphia Roll and Gator Roll , it is clear to see the menu works with the environment around it; being in a college town, most students would not be able to understand names of entrees in a different language. Exemplarily, dishes such as the curryduck would be called แกงเป็ด in this culture. Not Americanizing this menu would make it impossible for individuals to order. A few entrees on the menu do, however, represent Thai culture. Meals such as the masamun curry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Hard Determinism Vs. Negatives Throughout the years, many different philosophical ideas have been presented to the general populace. One of these ideas, hard determinism, has presented alleged positives and alleged negatives. One alleged negative that stands out to me is that no single person is responsible for their actions, no matter how heinous that action may be. I argue, that throwing moralitycompletely out of the equation, is a genuine negative of hard determinism. In order to explain my thoughts, we must first understand the full meaning of hard determinism. In Holbach s essay on hard determinism, he says, Nevertheless, in spite of the shackles by which he is bound, it is pretended he is a free agent, or that independent of the causes by which he is moved, he determines his own will, and regulates his own condition. 1 He explains that free will is an illusion and that all of our actions are pre determined by prior factors. Prior factors would include: experiences from the past, how one was raised, genetic makeup and so on. No matter what you decide to do, you will never actually have a say in it because everything in your life has led up to that point. For example; if one man is walking down the street and bumps into another man, how the second man reacts will have been predetermined therefore not making him liable for those actions. Say he decides to accept the man s apology and goes on with his day. This is due to the way he was raised and his genetic makeup, not because of his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Figurative Language In Stephen King s On Writing 1. Many skilled authors use literary elements and techniques in their stories; for example, imagery, dialogue, and figurative language. Not only do these authors use this devices, they use them correctly. Stephen King, the author of On Writing and many other novels, uses these a lot throughout his novels. Figurative language and imagery plays a huge role in developing King s novel. The Rag s office was a table located in the dirt floored, rock walled, spider infested confines of our basement, somewhere north of the furnace and east of the root cellar, where Clayt and Ella s endless cartons of preserves and canned vegetables were kept (pg. 42). The author uses great imagery in this passage in which he is describing the area where his brother worked. This is effective because it allows the reader to envision the workspace. Grammar is not just a pain in the ass; it s the pole you grab to get your thoughts up on their feet and walking (pg. 121). This is a metaphor, which is the comparison of two things by just stating that one thing is the other. Another example of this would be, Plot is a far bigger tool, the writer s jackhammer (pg. 164). In the first example, grammar is being compared to a pole that a writer grabs hold of. In the second sentence, King is comparing plot to a jackhammer, and it is effective to get the point across and explain the things, grammar and plot in these examples, in an interesting way. In the first sentence, there is also an example of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Testament Of The Bible The Bible simply says in Isaiah 55:9, For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. God does work His wonders in ways that are beyond finding out! The congregation at Calvary has heard repeatedly about the classic book called Pilgrims Progress. In this timeless book there is a man named Mr. Worldly Wise. It doesn t take long for a Christian to realize that he shouldn t have listened to this man. Mr. Worldly Wise does not have the mind of God. There would appear to be great wisdom coming from his mouth, but it s not from God. Something that will have to be accepted by faith, no matter how good the intentions, if the direction that a person is going is not governed by God s wisdom, that journey, that path, will end in hopelessness. The Church, His blood bought Church, has the special revelation called the New Testament. One would think, with all the technology, modern science and medicine, that the Church would evolve to a place in society where the message of reaching the world would be different than it was when the Church began. But lest we forget the declaration of Isaiah, His ways are not our ways. The giant gulf that separates God and man is impassable. There is no way to get from here to there apart from the wisdom of God. His wisdom is completely separate from worldly wisdom. • 16. Impressionism as a Avant-garde Movement 1.INTRODUCTION This essay analyses the aesthetic and ideological underpinnings of the Modernist artwork, Impression, Sunrise of Claude Monet. The artwork and Impressionism is considered to be a visual articulation of the avant garde and the latter statement is explained. References to the writings of Charles Harrison, Clement Greenberg and Wilhelm Worringer is used to theorise the aesthetics of modernity. 2.IMPRESSIONISM AS MODERN ART Modernism is the heartbeat of culture, or as Clement Greenberg (1992:754) states, modernism involves of what is truly alive in our culture and it includes more than just art and literature. Western civilization began to interrogate their foundations and progressed into a self critical society (Greenberg 1992:754). This notion began with the theories of the philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724 1804); he criticized the means itself of criticism (Greenberg 1992:754). Therefore, Greenberg (1992:754) perceived Kant as the first real Modernist. An avant garde or modern movement is a movement that is experimental, artists push boundaries, are committed to change and are brave. Impressionism slots in perfectly to the definition of avant garde. The Impressionists took the first steps into modernism as a self critical movement (Greenberg 1992:755). To a modern understanding, the Impressionist paintings are among the most instantly enjoyable works of art (Thomas 1987:9). The first Modernist paintings were produced by Edouard Manet (Greenberg ... Economics of an Urgent Care Center in a Market of Emergency Departments One of the contributors to the rising cost of Healthcare can be attributed to the over use of emergency departments (EDs) for non emergency needs. In the greater Capitol/First/Beacon Hill area there are three major hospitals (Virginia Mason, Harborview, and Swedish) with emergency rooms and no urgent care centers with the exception of Group Health which is restricted to Group Health insurance members. Urgent vs. Emergency Care A study by the CDC showed that approximately 70 % of emergency department visits can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will reduce the demand for ED visits and the ratio of patients with insurance to offset the cost of uncompensated care. With a decrease in demand we should see a decrease in the cost of emergency room visits as more patients get their non emergency care at urgent care centers. The new healthcare reform will eventually reduce the burden on hospitals and insurance companies by providing the means for everyone to have healthcare and increase the ratio of insured patients seeking treatment. Urgent Care Economics Unlike an emergency department, urgent care centers do not charge facility fees. Insurance companies and patients are only charged for services rendered. Urgent care centers provide a high level of non emergency care at a similar cost as it would to visit a doctor s office which is about 1 /10th of the cost of an emergency room visit. This includes minor procedures such as lacerations that need sutures, minor burns, casting of fractures, reduction of dislocated joints, and on the job injuries. Urgent care centers are for profit and are not required to provide indigent care, but do not have the tax benefits of a not for profit hospital. The quality of care in an urgent care center is just a good in an emergency department for non emergency care. The differentiating factor is follow up care. • 20. The Indian Independence Movement The history of the Indian Independence Movement against the British in the 20th Century was evidently influenced and motivated by the underlying differences and perceptions of communal identities. The freedom struggle in essence was also an assertion of the interests and aspirations of the diverse communities of the Indian subcontinent. The Indian National Congressand the Muslim League were the two big powers that sought to mobilize public sentiments in the quest for Independence. While the Muslim League (formed in 1906), stood as a symbol of Islamic nationalism, the INC on the other hand was seen as pro Hindu (with a strong influence of radical groups like the Hindu Mahasabha). Mohammad Ali Jinnah, initially a Congress nationalist, joined the Muslim League in 1913 in order to align the views of the two communities in their collective struggle for freedom. The result was The Lucknow Pact which laid down the constitutional framework of seat and power sharing arrangements for elections to the Provincial Legislative Councils. Muslims were provided with separate electorates and one third representation in the Central government. It shows the importance of knowing who you are but also being open to new things to come in the future. Holding tight to your roots means remembering where you came from and what standards and ideals are important to you. In my aphorism when I say be open to the future it means being open to new ways of thinking and change later on in your life. My aphorism means remembering who you are but not letting that hold you back in the future. My aphorism is important because it tells you to remember who you are, where you came from, and to remember the ideals and standards that you have. Also, be open to other ideas or things happening in your life in the future. To me my aphorism means holding on to my ideals and standards and knowing where I came from. Even later on in life towards the future I will always remember who I am but be open to new things that are to come. My aphorism shapes and effects my decisions because when I make my decisions I remember who I am and my standards. I also know to be open to new things in life and new ways of thinking. The aphorism I have chosen has helped me to not be so stubborn. It has also helped me to be more open to change. My aphorism can help an individual because anyone can relate to it. Everyone has roots. Most people have a specific set of standards that they try to live by. My aphorism can also help by showing people what they already know but then expounding on that ideain the future. The good that people can find in my aphorism is the fact that it can relate to anybody s life. In my aphorism it talks about remembering who you are and where you came from but still being open to new things life. The good that it shows is remembering who you are but being open to the future to come. The effect of ignoring my aphorism is not being able to be open to new ideas and ways of thinking in the future. Not being able to remember your roots and where you came from. • 23. The Destruction Of Food Production The prehistoric ancestors of humanity spent most of their time in the pursuit of food. Civilization sprung up as food harvesting and farming became more optimized and specialized. The procurement of food declined as the greatest usage of human time. The efficiency of food production has allowed humanity to thrive on the different industrial and technological revolutions, and create a better standard of living for many people. Lizzie Widdicombe in the End of Foodwrites about Soylent, a overall food substitute that aims to replace regular food. According to its creator, Soylent has a lower cost, and is more efficient than regular food products and aims to progressive the advancement of food efficiency started by our ancestors. This new product and the market category it represents has the potential to eradicate hunger, and the time usage in producing and prepping food. Nevertheless, Soylent and its counterparts can have potentially catastrophic consequences for humanity. The quest for food, is one of the most important defining characteristics of life and nature. Food has thus shaped much of human history. The ancient civilization of Mesopotamia for example was fueled by the first agricultural revolution which introduced innovations in food production such as the domestication of plants and animals. The sedentary living that most people enjoy today is a benefit of the greater efficiencies created by the first agricultural revolution. While the first agricultural ... Whether one came up with the concepts of calculus are insignificant since the outcome was that future generations benefited. However, the logic of their clash does bear merit. In proposing that he was the first inventor, Leibniz states that it is most useful that the true origins of memorable inventions be known, especially of those that were conceive not by accident but by an effort of meditation. It was around this time that he was convinced that he would arrive at a conclusion where by analysis could be made on geometric curve via algebra albeit calculus. Furthermore, Newton would improve on Wallis Infinite Series by devising proofs of the various theorems. He was then conferred as a scholar at Trinity in 1664 but the following year, England was hit with plague and Cambridge was no exceptions; the university closed till 1667. By the time, Newton returned to Cambridge, he had already written material for Opticks, in which he stated that just a prism can split white light into this spectrum of colors, so can a second prism return the separated colors into white light. • 30. Life Is A Game Of Chance Jews were beaten and killed for no reason. Jews during that time were no longer regarded as full citizens, they were victims. There were several times that Vladek mentioned that God never came. Vladek s experiences in the camp show how many Jews must have felt at that time that they were abandoned by their God. Art Spiegelman is suggesting that life is a game of chance, or rather a series of events that are fated or at least influenced by a divine power. Life is governed solely by chance and why, during the Holocaust, some people survived while others did not. When Spiegelman is looking for answers, and talks to his therapist it reinforces this idea Yes, life always takes the side of life, and somehow the victims are blamed. But it wasn t the best people who survived, nor did the best ones die. It was random! (45) Pavel reminds us that those who survived were not necessarily the most deserving. That can only increase the guilt that the survivors felt, who may have felt they had no right to survive when more deserving people died. I believe that this is both a negative and positive message. Spiegelman shows that during the Holocaust it didn t matter if you were rich, poor, and successful or not you could easily be put to your death. Typically death is fairly random and so is survival, but with the Holocaust instead of being random, groups were targeted.
