Canterbury Tales Essay
Canterbury Tales Wife of Bath is Not an Attack on Women and Married Life
Feminists have proposed that the Prologue of the Wife of Bath is merely an attack on women and married life. The Prologue is
spoken by a woman with strong opinions on how married life should be conducted, but is written by a man. It is important to
examine the purpose with which Chaucer wrote it. This is especially so as many of the pilgrims in The Canterbury Tales condemn
themselves out of their own mouths, such as the Monk and the Friar. While the Wife spends most of the Prologue arguing in
favour of the deceit and deviousness that wise wives will execute, the argument is often illogical and can approach ridiculousness
in its vehemence. Are we to agree with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the vitality and forcefulness of the Wife forces us to avoid coming to so neat a conclusion. Dame Alison is frightening
and dangerous, true. By the moral codes of society, she has sinned by committing adultery, and strictly speaking, should not have
married so many times. However, the language that Chaucer has her speak is not that of right and wrong, it is that of total
amorality and self service. The Wife does not pretend to better behaviour, nor does she accuse anyone else of sinning, and so we
cannot accuse her of hypocrisy. In contrast, the Monk and Friar [good] are clearly the targets of irony, as they do not seem to be
aware of the contradictions in their arguments. The Wife s contradictions are so staggering and frequent: confusing bigamy with
remarriage, using God s commandment to go forth and multiply although she is childless, and especially, her frank admission that
in previous showdowns with her old husbands, al was false that she accused them of. She is not a hypocrite; on the contrary, she
glories in her irrationality and manipulation of her material. It is difficult, therefore, to see her as being attacked through irony, as
the Monk and Friar are.
The Wife s view of married life as a continual battle for maistrie

The Rights Of Habeas Corpus
The president s executive order 456 that called for the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus amid intense political instability
was necessary. In order to give legal advice with substance to Her Excellency President Dove, the counsel remained very
objective and impartial on her actions within the period of time the civil war lasted. The counsel is reviewing Madame Dove s
actions on three folds, 1, is her action to wage war constitutional? 2, is her action violate the constitution check and balances of
powers? 3 is her action completely unconstitutional? These are the questions we will be answering with the fact patterns
available. According to the United States constitution Art I sec 9 cl 2 the privilege of habeas corpus shall not be suspended unless
when cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety may require it. Habeas Corpus allows detainee to question the reason for
their detainment. Habeas insures that the defendant isn t arbitrarily imprisoned by the government and that they can exhaust all
legal means possible to fight the accusation. Unfortunately, habeas has been suspended numerous times throughout the United
States history, most notably during the Civil War of 1861, President Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus. While at this
contemporary time President Bush has also suspended habeas corpus under the Military Commissions Act of 2006. The
suspension of habeas corpus means that anyone that the government wants to arrest it can do so, without

Essay On Jingles
Introduction
Jingles are a type of rhyme, and they ve been around for quite a long time. They were initially utilized as a part of publicizing in
1928, when a radio ad asking Have Your Tried Wheaties? hit the air, as per writer Steven Karman in his book Who Killed the
Jingle? Since then, jingles have been an essential piece of both publicizing and mainstream culture, in spite of the fact that the
utilization of the jingle is at present in decrease as more organizations swing to famous tunes to advance their items. Music has
turned into a vital piece of the promoting instrument s extension. With the heightening utilization of TV and radio as the mean of

Long Term Effects Of Imperialism In South Africa
In the second half of the 19th century, most African countries faced the aggression of the European imperialism. All African
countries were colonized except for Ethiopia and Liberia. South Africa was one of the main countries that faced imperialism. The
Boers, also known as the Dutch descendents or Dutch farmers, were the first to colonize South Africa in 1652. Later on, the
British came and took Cape Colony from the Dutch in 1795. The British at first mainly wanted to colonize South Africa as it
helps her to trade with India by its route. South Africa s temperate climate, natural resources, and massive minerals attracted
Europeans to take it over. Also, South Africa has a strategic geographical location as it s located at the center of the ... Show more

There were many important positive effects. First of all, there was a huge advance in agriculture. Early, when the Dutch settled in
South Africa, they taught South Africans new farming techniques that would increase their production. The Dutch, being
specialized in farming, introduced new farming tools to South Africans. The discovery of gold helped the British use gold
efficiently as they made different kinds of jewelry which increased the economy enormously. The British bought many African
slaves to work in the mining industry but this helped them learn new techniques that would increase their production and
resources. The British has actually improved the education in South Africa. Nowadays, we see British systems in South Africa
that are still helping South Africans to become successful in their lives. The employment rate is increasing and increasing. On the
other hand, there were also negative impacts. The main negative impact is racial discrimination. The starting of feuds between
blacks and whites in the colonization of South Africa are still happening today in South Africa. Economic exploitation is also a
negative impact. The British are still taking goods and resources from South

The Sorrows Of Young Werther And Wordsworth s The Prelude
Nature is a phenomenal thing in the world and it is largely referred to the physical world . indeed the humankind is a part of
nature. Living in very relaxing nature give the human freedom of everything. Freedom is a very great word in the society , a
direct cause and indirect conflicts of mankind on Earth, both own psychological conflicts or conflicts on the borders of the land.
Freedom means the ability to make decisions, or select options, without any limitation or condition, any other autonomy without
limitation viz. The concept is to reflect the individual s need for liberation from slavery and domination of individuals or groups
restrictions. In the texts of Goethe s The Sorrows of Young Werther and Wordsworth s The Prelude are both relates to the
romanticism of nature and freedom in the fellowing texts. In the text of Goethe s The Sorrows of Young Werther the metaphor his

Compverty And Poverty In The Bean Eaters, By Gwendolyn Brooks
Imagine what you would all be like if, despite adversity and poverty, you still had a positive outlook on life? What would happen
if you lived every day to the fullest? You would probably look back on life fondly despite all your hardships that you may have
faced. Gwendolyn Brooks addressed the issues of poverty and living to the fullest in The Bean Eaters and Sadie and Maud. Both
these poems have similar themes and some differences as well. This paper is about the contrasts between the two poems.
Gwendolyn Brooks wrote both poems. Brooks often wrote about the plights of minorities and those in poverty. She lived in an
apartment in Chicago and would write poems about those around her. I wrote about what I saw and heard in the street, Ms.
Brooks once said. I lived in a small second floor apartment at the corner, and I could look first on one side and then the other.
There was my material (M. Watkins, 2000). She drew her material from watching those around her. You can clearly understand
how her observations helped her write these two poems because of how both the poems were about the plights of those in poverty.
In both poems, their characters were living in some sort of poverty. Even though they were in poverty, they were without want.
The characters in the poems still manage to have meaningful lives despite the poverty and adversity that is against them. In Sadie
and Maud , it is assumed that Sadie did not earn as much money because it says Maud went to college/Sadie stayed at home (G.
Brooks, 1963). The reason one can assume that Sadie probably did not earn as much money as her sister is that you usually earn
more money if you have a degree. Also since it says Sadie stayed at home it does not explain what she was doing during that time.
In another part of the poem, it states, When Sadie said her last so long/Her girls struck out from home. / (Sadie had left as a
heritage/Her fine tooth comb) (G. Brooks, 1963). Again, it is apparent that she did not have much at all. All Sadie had to give was
her fine tooth comb. The Bean Eaters also do not have much to their name. it says They eat beans mostly, this old yellow pair. /
Dinner is a casual affair. /Plain chipware on a plain and creaking wood,

Article 40 Where should I use my free spins?
So you have fifty free spins at your disposal and you feel on top of the world, but you need to think smart, as you don t want to go
in all gung ho and waste them unnecessarily. Fifty is a lot, so you need to know which game is going to get you the best return on
your spins. The first way we could look at it is based on stats; the slot game that gives out the most money would be the logical
game to go for first right? Well it is actually a little more complicated that, as there are plenty of other things that you need to
consider.
After figuring out the top paying games, let s look at the companies who have lost the most money to gamblers. Topping the list is

But if you want to succeed you need to use your grey matter and see that the truth is in the stats. The following will take you
through the top three slot games in 2015, so you can get a feel for the games that seem to give gamblers the highest amount of
turnover.
Thunderstruck 2
The highest ranked slot game, boasting big wins on many occasions. The biggest win in 2015 came from a player named Masis S
, who won over $850,000 on the game. In fact that was the player s fourth win in eight days on all slots. Proof that it does pay to
be persistent.
Thunderstruck
This is the second highest ranked game and is known for delivering big wins with the highest winner receiving an impressive
$758,000. With figures like that in its back catalogue, there is no denying the appeal of the original Thunderstruck title.
Burning Desire
This game boasts the highest single money payout of all three games, with a staggering $949,000 payout occurring last year. The
figure is more than any other game during such time frame (excluding progressive slots), however the stats say that you have less
of chance of winning at Burning Desire than the other two titles on this list.
Many other games have big payouts and frequent wins, but the aforementioned three most are the most successful titles of the
moment. Slot machines obviously work on a system and some would say they work in favour of the online casinos. However, if

Exercises Section 2.5
2. Determine whether each of these sets is finite, countably infinite, or uncountable. For those that are countably infinite, exhibit a
one to one correspondence between the set of positive integers and that set.
a. The integers greater than 10.
This is countably infinite.
Starting from the first integer greater than 10, which is 11, one can infinitely count upwards since there is no boundary on the
right side of the number line for this instance.
The equation Æ’(x) = x + 11 can be used to show a one to one correspondence. x: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ...
Æ’(x): 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 ...
b. The odd negative integers.
This is countably infinite.

a. Integers not divisible by 3.
This set is countable.
The integers in the set are ±1, ±2, ±4, ±5, ±7, and so on.
We can list these numbers in the order 1, −1, 2, −2, 4, −4, 5, −5, 7, −7, ... , thereby establishing the desired correspondence. x: 1,
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ...
Æ’(x): 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, ...
b. Integers divisible by 5 but not by 7.
This is countably infinite.
This is similar to part (a); we can simply list the elements of the set in order of increasing absolute value, listing each positive
term before its corresponding negative: (x): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9...
Æ’(x): 5, 5, 10, 10, 15, 15, 20, 20, 25, 25, 30, 30 40, 40, ...
c. The real numbers with decimal representations consisting of all 1s.
This set is countable but a little tricky.
We can arrange the numbers in a 2 dimensional table as follows:
Thus we have shown that our set is the countable union of countable sets (each of the countable sets is one row of this table).
Therefore by Exercise 27, the entire set is countable.
For an explicit correspondence with the positive integers, we can zigzag along the positive sloping diagonals as in Figure 3: 1↔
.1 , 2↔ 1.1 , 3↔.1, 4↔.11, 5↔1, and so on.
d. The real numbers with decimal representations of all 1s or 9s.
This set is not countable.
We can prove it by the same diagonalization argument as was used to prove that the set of all reals is uncountable in Example 5.
All we need to do is choose di =

The Creation Of Medical Aircraft During The Vietnam War
The United States Army s idea of medically evacuating wounded Soldiers by use of helicopters, during the Vietnam War, was not
a new concept. The Army used the Bell Aircraft Corporation s H 13 Sioux helicopters for evacuation and movement of the
wounded in the Korea War. However, the Army redesigned the concept of medical evacuation by using a larger helicopter that
could carry medics and first responders. (Dorland Nanney, 1982) This larger aircraft, the UH 1 Iroquois, was first used by the
57th Medical Detachment in Vietnam. Once in country, the medical service corps realized the helicopter needed another feature,
the hoist. The creation of the hoist was developed through the understanding of the terrain in Vietnam, the trial and error ... Show

The terrain of Vietnam plague the ground force commanders and complicated medical evacuations. At the time of the medical
detachment s arrival in Vietnam, the ground forces were transporting their wounded to open fields in the jungle so that
aeromedical helicopters could land and evacuate the casualties. Due to this, the Army began developments in equipment and
devices that could prove to be a reliable tool in the jungle environment. The army went through several trial and error experiments
including the collapsible box platform and the Jungle Canopy Platform System. Neither of these two devices proved to be
dependable in a war time operation. Ground force commanders would not use the devices as they felt that the tool could create a
vulnerability. Finally, the Army created the hoist which gave aeromedical evacuation crews the ability to come to a hover and
lower numerous harnesses and several different types of litters to the wounded ground forces below. Instead of ground forces
receiving the platform and conducting installation operations, the Army s helicopter hoist added a new system which made it the

The Global Economy
Without the internet, it may be fair to say that the global economy we know of today would conceivably collapse. Where the
internet makes it easy to order products and supplies for consumers and retailers all over the world that convenience would
obviously be lost if the internet would cease to exist and import and export markets throughout the globe would surely crumble.
Some may see this view as a dramatic interpretation, but just thinking about all of the products and services that are managed by
the use of the internet today, it really sheds light on how dependent the world actually is on it. 3. Contrast differentiation and low
cost strategies (noting that many firms use a mixture of both). What characteristics of an industry, firm, product and/or customers

of using this strategy? Similarly, what characteristics of an industry, firm, product and/or customers might tend to encourage a
firm to employ a low cost strategy and what are some of the dangers or commonly made mistakes of using that strategy? Which
(or which mixture) does your firm use and why? Which strengths is it drawing upon and/or which competitor weakness is it
attacking? How does the nature of the industry its products or services, its relevant driving forces, etc. tend to encourage the use
of a particular strategy, if at all? Firstly it is important to differentiate

Persuasive Essay On The Problem Of Global Warming
The world is addicted to fossil fuels, but it is quickly using up its resources and destroying the environment. Based on current
estimates, oil and natural gas will peak by 2040. In addition, over the past 50 years, the average global temperature has increased
at the fastest rate in recorded history (MacMillan Para 1). The United States needs to figure out a way to fulfill their massive
demand for power while ensuring the safety of the planet. There are many possible ways to attack the problem at hand. The first
proposal is to mandate the installment of solar rooftop units throughout the country. Another proposal is to install solar parks
throughout the country. A final proposal is to simply incentivize the use and development of solar energy while phasing out fossil
fuels. By implementing one of these three proposals, the United States government could help solve a problem that looms over
the entire population.
The major problem solar energy will look to fix is global warming. Global warming is the gradual increase of the average global
temperature. This rise in heat is caused by the greenhouse effect, which is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth s
atmosphere trap heat. These gases let in light but keep heat from escaping, like the glass walls of a greenhouse (What is Global
Warming Para 4). This process is natural and keeps Earth at an inhabitable temperature. Recently, however, the burning of fossil
fuels has enhanced this effect, which is

to purchase expensive machinery. ( The Farming Problem ). Tractors had just graced the U.S. markets which boosted the
production of goods greatly. Most would think this was good, but it was more of a problem, the farmers would overproduce goods
without enough people to buy them all which made the goods almost worthless. The farmers had to borrow money to pay for their
tractors, assuming they would be able to pay back the debt with the money that the tractor made, but when they found they could
not it set them up having no money and a debt with no way to pay it back. When the stock market crashed in 1929 sending prices
in an even more downward cycle, many American farmers wondered if their hardscrabble lives would ever improve. ( The
Farming Problem ). The stock market crashing made the stocks the farmers though they would be able to get some money from
virtually worthless.
The Dust Bowl only made matters worse. Between 1932 and 1940 it is estimated 2.5 million people abandoned the plains for
other regions of the country. (Woolner) California received the majority of these migrants; roughly four hundred thousand. The
Californians who were there before the migrants were unhappy about them coming in and taking their jobs, often referring to
them as Okies (most of them came from Oklahoma). They were even prohibited from

Age-Related Degeneration Paper
For many people being diagnosed with a new disease could come as a shock because it is going to be a life changing event. One
of the biggest life changing diseases is Age Related Macular Degeneration. For those people who do not know what Age Related
Macular Degeneration is it is a disease that attacks the macula part of the eye, which affects vision. AMD is found in a majority of
older people over the age of 50. For the people that are diagnosed with Age Related Macular Degeneration their lives are going to
be turned upside down. Newly diagnosed patients often suffer from depression after the diagnoses. In my research I found a
journal that was written with some statistics of people with AMD that have depressive symptoms against controls . ... Show more

The study shows that the patients with AMD have decreased function psychologically along with functionally. The data for the
research was chosen at random The participants were divided into two groups: participants diagnosed with AMD, and participants
without reported ocular diseases (Pg 376). The people chosen for this study were over the age of 55 with evidence of AMD. In the
study it stated they used the nine depression items from the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale (Pg 376) . A patient having
AMD had a 36% chance of having depressive symptoms where the controls used in the study had a 30% chance of having
depressive symptoms (Pg 377). It is also shown that over half of the people with AMD have depressive symptoms. It is believed
that these people have depressive symptoms due to having a decreased quality of life. Lastly, it is shown that people with AMD
do not compare to people of similar age when it comes to socializing and functioning. So, there are statistics showing that people
with age related macular degeneration have a higher risk at becoming depressed versus people who do not have age related
macular degeneration. This is believed to be stemmed from the decrease in socialization and independence. These patients who
were once able to live on their own and maintain a normal social life are no longer able to do the things they once did on their

A Common Story Told Around Halloween
A common story told around Halloween is the tale of the Headless Horseman. Within the past century, both Disney and
Hollywood have given their views on the classic tale. Disney holds most of the original concept of Irving s tale than the Tim
Burton s movie. However, the changes in the bridge scene, the concept of the characters, and the horseman takes valuable
meaning away from Irving s timeless classic The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
In Irving s original and Walt Disney view of the bridge scene was the same. The legend according to Brom Bones, after a person
that is chase crosses the bridge. The Headless Horseman would not chase the person any longer. Ichabod took the advice and it
did not turn out well for him, the next morning in place of Ichabod was a pumpkin. Yet, the Tim Burton version was much
different, on how the bridge scene played out. The scene took place at the church, in this case, the Horseman could not cross the
fence. The Horseman thought outside of the fence to kill his next target, Van Tassel. So the Headless Horseman takes a piece of
fence and throws it throws it through the church window. With these two differences in one scene, there is room for the characters
to flex to meet the needs of the changes. Irving s and Disney s description of Ichabod Crane different to that of Tim Burton. The
first instance is the description of Ichabod s appearance. His head was small, and flat at top, with huge ears, large green glassy

Summary Therapists Integration of Religion Spirituality
In this article, there were a 26 survey conducted with 5,579 therapists with the integration of religion and spirituality in
counseling. In the study, most therapist consider spirituality through their lives, but does not infrequently participate in religious
activities. In the study, it was founded that marriage therapists consider more spirituality during their counseling session than
other therapists, and marriage therapists is more likely to participate in a religious practice than other therapists.
There was no hypothesis founded in this article. In this article, there were methods that were discussed regarding spirituality and
religion. The psychologists Paragmena, stated that the psychologists of religion disagree on different types of spirituality and
religion. Paragemena described in this article that religion can be very logistic, sacramental, and ideologist, however, spiritual can
be described as peculiar, sentimental, and empirical.
There was another psychologists who named was Tan that discussed different methods of integrated and spiritual religion. There
were explicated integration, implicit integration, and intrapersonal integration. Explicated integration describe as an approach that
directly compacts with spirituality and religion disputes in counseling. Implicit integration can be describe as an approach that

Mathematical Constants Are Useful For Programming Essay
Programmatically Computing Mathematical Constants
Many mathematical constants are useful for programming. For instance, if you need to use the transcendental number pi, you
need to calculate it somehow. I set out to create a library of sorts to calculate as many mathematical constants as I could.
Constant
Explanation and Code
Alladi Grinstead constant
The Alladi Grinstead constant is defined as ec 1, where ck=21kln(kk 1). To do summation (), one has to use a for loop with
precision limiting behavior.
This code uses an interchanged summation using the Riemann zeta function (n), this converges much faster than the technical
definition above, which is essential to optimizing the code.
The value of the Alladi Grinstead constant is:
0.809394020540639130717931880594091317215953992425000304242028715042999012516547322311518407819723616915
Apéry s constant
This is simply the value of the Riemann Zeta function at 3. So, (3).
The entire program uses an external library called Boost, which provides extended precision (theoretically arbitrary precision) and
inherent mathematical functions. The line that begins with return is what returns the value to be used for further purposes.
The value of Apéry s constant is:

Western Culture In Egypt
When considering Egypt, most people think about pyramids and mummification. In general, historians, and not the common
person, are educated on the history of Egypt and the details of their culture. The same can be said for Western civilization people
who aren t educated in this specific topic will most often assume that it involves cowboys and ranch style living. Western
civilization is also known as European civilization; and since Egypt borders the Mediterranean, it can be classified as part of
Europe. Therefore, it can lead to mistaken preconceptions about the history of Egypt. In order to understand why Egyptian history
isn t associated with western culture, one must study where their cultures differ. The roots of Western civilization all started in
Western Europe, following the end of the Roman Empire. It took shape in medieval Europe, with its feudal society, Christian
religion, and growing economic dynamism. During the modern era, Western civilization started to grow and spread from Europe
to the Americas, Australia, and other parts of the world. The level of economic power it began to develop was greater than any
other civilization had seen. There were also scientific discoveries, technological advancements, and the transformation to personal
freedom that took part during this era. Christianity helped shape Western civilization in many ways. Christian theology
established the sanctity of individual believers, called for obedience to an authority Jesus Christ higher

Platonic Love In Romeo And Juliet
Love is a topic that has taken over today s world. From music to movies, everything is now based on the love and relationships
between people. However, Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, which is arguably the most famous love story in the world, could also
be seen as a warning against love. The play Romeo and Juliet shows how platonic and romantic love can cause tragedy.
First of all, platonic love caused tragedy in Romeo and Juliet. One of the ways platonic love lead to tragedy was through the love
and loyalty between Romeo and his best friend, Mercutio. After Tybalt killed Mercutio when Romeo refused to fight him, Romeo
wanted to avenge his friend. He challenged Tybalt to a fight and exclaimed And fire eyed fury be my conduct now. (3. 1. ... Show

The search for new mining locations around the world has been significant to many mining corporations in the United States and
Canada. Since the areas within these boundaries are being used up or are extremely expensive, many have taken their operations
to developing countries in Latin America. El Salvador is one of the next countries that Pacific Rim, a Canadian Australian firm
that produces gold and copper, is looking to open mines in. Specifically, a gold mine located near Sensuntepeque, which is the

Salvadoran people and the country as a whole. El Salvador s lack of natural resources, current issues of deforestation, and poverty

that mining activity in El Salvador will create more jobs and economic growth, further exploration will and has created an

refusal to grant extraction permits but also engage in efforts of economic empowerment and an increase of land control.
After the civil war in the early 1990s, the Salvadorian government was confronted with an outstanding issue of economic and

Evolution Of Quilting

However, he recognizes them for many failures rather than for their successes and conquests. Machiavelli attributes the failure

describes and outlines his ideas of what essential Prince qualities are, hoping that someone who reads them will follow his words

Summary
Inspired by James Baldwin s 1963 classic The Fire Next Time, Ta Nehisi Coates Between the World and Me powerfully educates
readers on what it means to be African American in the United States today. It is formatted as a letter to his son, Samori, at the age
of fifteen. It s intention being to help him through navigate the world as a young African American male. He does this through
sharing personal experiences and analyzing current events, with regards to historical context. By communicating his ideas in this

Good Night Poem
Fighting for Life The loss of a loved one is difficult to endure, but it is more difficult to watch that loved one suffer through his or
her illness. This is what late poet Dylan Thomas faced when he found out his father was battling with blindness and certain
illnesses. To express his feelings about the situation, the poet wrote: Do not go gentle into that good night . In this poem, Thomas
tells his father to keep fighting for his life because there is much more to life than he knows. Using the structure, diction,
symbolism, and anaphora of the poem, Thomas emphasizes a universal message in Do not go gentle into that good night : Never
easily submit one s life to death because life is worth fighting for.Notably, the structure of the poem is significant to the message
the poem portrays. The poem is divided up into six stanzas where the first five stanzas consist of three lines and the last stanza
consists of four lines. The first five stanzas tell the reader that the speaker wants someone to keep living and fight against death.
However, in the last stanza, the speaker reveals to the readers that the he is referring to his father. The last stanza, being comprised
of four lines rather than three, further emphasizes the speaker s desire to have his father fight death and live life.In addition to this
structure of the poem, rhyme also plays an important role in emphasizing the author s message. This poem has a specific rhyme
scheme for the first five stanzas: aba, aba, aba,

Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s The Surety Of Fools
Voltaire once said, Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an absurd one. We live in a world that is constantly changing
and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why
certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls
the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is statistical
evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity
comes partially from people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s
fear of uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted that
uncertainty grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention that it is the fear of uncertainty
that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is
prone to doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so they do not have time to question their
explanation. However, Kahneman neglects to mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins
his essay by describing his experience in evaluating

A red dwarf star is considered to be a great spot for life because of its potential for long term habitability. For earth, the habitable
zone it resides in lasts only about 7 to 10 billion years. Compare that to a red dwarf, where a habitable zone can last for for a span
almost five times greater than that for earth. Thus making a red dwarf a good candidate for life to grow, develop and become

stars have a few big problems. Due to the low luminosity of a red dwarf, planets have to be relatively close for it to be in the

Factors that Shaped the Modern Olympic Movement
DBQ Essay
Some factors that shaped the modern Olympic movement from 1892 to 2002 were the increased participation of women in the
games due to women s suffrage, the rising nationalism and superiority over competitors that took place, and the increase in trade
and funding.
The modern Olympic movement was shaped through the soaring advocation of women s rights (2, 8). An anonymous
photographer (#2), in the 1908 Olympic games held in Great Britain where only 2 percent of women participated in the games,
presents a photograph of Sybil Newall, a female British competitor at the games, and advocates women participating in the
games. This photographer might have this view because he or she is a feminist that took place in the women suffrage movement
and is baffled that solely two percent of athletes were women, and is urging the Olympics to make a great change. Hassiva
Boulmerka (#8), an Algerian competitor that engaged in the 1992 games held in Spain where 29 percent of the athletes were
women, believes that every woman has the ability of becoming an athlete, and must strengthen their mind and conscious, not just
their body, to overcome these social challenges. Boulmerka, as a woman participant, may have this belief because she has
underwent these obstacles as well, and wishes to motivate women in Spain to have the will and determination to overcome them
and become a female athlete like herself. A good additional document that would better our understanding of how this social

7c s of Written Communication
7 C s off effective communication (with respect to written communication):
Written communication occupies an important position in the communication sphere, so written communication has to pay
adequate attention on certain principles of necessity. The essentials of every written communication are principles of unity,
coherence and emphasis. These principles along with other essentials of effective communication, like language, planning and
organization make the written communication effective.
* Clarity: The writing should be correctly planned and expressed in a logical way,and the writer should make sure that the ideas

Coherence means, tying together of several ideas, under one main topic in any paragraph. Smooth flow, lucidity and transition
aspects should be given effect to and there should not be any scope for the reader to misinterpret, mis read or mis spell the
message. Coherence is given to a larger paragraph or section of a message and leads to purposeful communication where the
writer is well received, read, understood and acted upon by the reader. * Conciseness: Conciseness is an important factor in
effective communication. It means saying all that needs to be said and no more. The aimless verbiage, unnecessary details and
heavy paragraphs make our communication ridiculous and ineffective. We must omit those words and sentences from our
message, which are not likely to bring about results. The message, which can be expressed in fewer words, is more impressive
and effective than the same message expressed in a number of words. The communicator must organize his message in such a
way that every word in it is meaningful and of interest to the receiver. Even a single word or a sentence, which does not
contribute to accomplish the purpose of the communication, should be carefully omitted. Conciseness refers to thoughts
expressed in the fewest words consistent with writing. It is achieved in writing in definite style and use of precise words.

Dumb Success
It is a harsh reality that in today s business world there are a lot of dumb, foolish idiots that are extremely successful. Why should
someone so unintelligent and perhaps less passionate and dedicated be so monetarily successful in the business world? According
to the researcher Laurie Varga, people are more inclined towards success due to the personality traits that are found more
frequently in foolish people than in sharp and intelligent people (Varga). Also, there are quite a few factors that lead to success
that have nothing to do with intelligence or lack thereof. Mainstream media and school systems teach people that the way to
success is thru intelligence. However, people who are not intelligent have constantly been found to be successful time and time
again. Bob Hoffman, who created one of the world s most influential marketing and advertising blogs states that out of all the
people he met in business, the majority were astonishingly stupid (Hoffman)
One example is the well renowned and successful Larry King. King, an American television and radio host who has been
recognized with awards including two Peabodys and ten Cable ACE Awards, answers the question that everyone has been asking.
The secret to my success? he answers, I m dumb! He states that his dumb personality traits are what drove him to become a

Analysis Of Better Than Hum Our Jobs By Kevin Kelly
Christian Lous Lange once said, Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. Many would agree, as modern day
scientists threaten that robots are taking over our jobs more and more everyday. While many are discomforted by this idea, author
Kevin Kelly is intrigued with this idea in his article, Better Than Human: Why Robots Will⎼And Must⎼Take Our Jobs, saying that
increasing technology in the workplace will benefit our society by increasing productivity. In his article, Kelly uses specific
examples and tones in an attempt to relate to his audience, but fails to present an argument that forces others to trust in the
takeover of technology. Kelly uses an academic, humorous tone in an attempt to appeal to his audience, but instead, sends a

technology is apparently flawless. After figuring out that this technology can do our old jobs better than we can, we realize that
we did not like our job and we are much happier now that we have moved on from our old boring job. What Kelly fails to realize
is that several people do not detest their jobs, and robots cannot do every job that humans can do. Some jobs, including social

Monkey Wrench Gang Summary Essay
The Monkey Wrench Gang
By Edward Abbey
I read The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey. The book is 421 pages, and was published by Lippincott Williams
amp;Wilkins in 1975. It is a fictional story about a group of four people who meet, and all want the same thing. To stop
development on America s southwest.
Edward Abbey s purpose in writing this book was to raise awareness about what is happening to, quite literally, our back yard.
This book takes place in the southern Utah and Arizona, and is told in 3rd person, but not following any one specific character. It

  • 2. Canterbury Tales Essay Canterbury Tales Wife of Bath is Not an Attack on Women and Married Life Feminists have proposed that the Prologue of the Wife of Bath is merely an attack on women and married life. The Prologue is spoken by a woman with strong opinions on how married life should be conducted, but is written by a man. It is important to examine the purpose with which Chaucer wrote it. This is especially so as many of the pilgrims in The Canterbury Tales condemn themselves out of their own mouths, such as the Monk and the Friar. While the Wife spends most of the Prologue arguing in favour of the deceit and deviousness that wise wives will execute, the argument is often illogical and can approach ridiculousness in its vehemence. Are we to agree with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the vitality and forcefulness of the Wife forces us to avoid coming to so neat a conclusion. Dame Alison is frightening and dangerous, true. By the moral codes of society, she has sinned by committing adultery, and strictly speaking, should not have married so many times. However, the language that Chaucer has her speak is not that of right and wrong, it is that of total amorality and self service. The Wife does not pretend to better behaviour, nor does she accuse anyone else of sinning, and so we cannot accuse her of hypocrisy. In contrast, the Monk and Friar [good] are clearly the targets of irony, as they do not seem to be aware of the contradictions in their arguments. The Wife s contradictions are so staggering and frequent: confusing bigamy with remarriage, using God s commandment to go forth and multiply although she is childless, and especially, her frank admission that in previous showdowns with her old husbands, al was false that she accused them of. She is not a hypocrite; on the contrary, she glories in her irrationality and manipulation of her material. It is difficult, therefore, to see her as being attacked through irony, as the Monk and Friar are. The Wife s view of married life as a continual battle for maistrie ... • 3. The Rights Of Habeas Corpus The president s executive order 456 that called for the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus amid intense political instability was necessary. In order to give legal advice with substance to Her Excellency President Dove, the counsel remained very objective and impartial on her actions within the period of time the civil war lasted. The counsel is reviewing Madame Dove s actions on three folds, 1, is her action to wage war constitutional? 2, is her action violate the constitution check and balances of powers? 3 is her action completely unconstitutional? These are the questions we will be answering with the fact patterns available. According to the United States constitution Art I sec 9 cl 2 the privilege of habeas corpus shall not be suspended unless when cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety may require it. Habeas Corpus allows detainee to question the reason for their detainment. Habeas insures that the defendant isn t arbitrarily imprisoned by the government and that they can exhaust all legal means possible to fight the accusation. Unfortunately, habeas has been suspended numerous times throughout the United States history, most notably during the Civil War of 1861, President Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus. While at this contemporary time President Bush has also suspended habeas corpus under the Military Commissions Act of 2006. The suspension of habeas corpus means that anyone that the government wants to arrest it can do so, without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Compverty And Poverty In The Bean Eaters, By Gwendolyn Brooks Imagine what you would all be like if, despite adversity and poverty, you still had a positive outlook on life? What would happen if you lived every day to the fullest? You would probably look back on life fondly despite all your hardships that you may have faced. Gwendolyn Brooks addressed the issues of poverty and living to the fullest in The Bean Eaters and Sadie and Maud. Both these poems have similar themes and some differences as well. This paper is about the contrasts between the two poems. Gwendolyn Brooks wrote both poems. Brooks often wrote about the plights of minorities and those in poverty. She lived in an apartment in Chicago and would write poems about those around her. I wrote about what I saw and heard in the street, Ms. Brooks once said. I lived in a small second floor apartment at the corner, and I could look first on one side and then the other. There was my material (M. Watkins, 2000). She drew her material from watching those around her. You can clearly understand how her observations helped her write these two poems because of how both the poems were about the plights of those in poverty. In both poems, their characters were living in some sort of poverty. Even though they were in poverty, they were without want. The characters in the poems still manage to have meaningful lives despite the poverty and adversity that is against them. In Sadie and Maud , it is assumed that Sadie did not earn as much money because it says Maud went to college/Sadie stayed at home (G. Brooks, 1963). The reason one can assume that Sadie probably did not earn as much money as her sister is that you usually earn more money if you have a degree. Also since it says Sadie stayed at home it does not explain what she was doing during that time. In another part of the poem, it states, When Sadie said her last so long/Her girls struck out from home. / (Sadie had left as a heritage/Her fine tooth comb) (G. Brooks, 1963). Again, it is apparent that she did not have much at all. All Sadie had to give was her fine tooth comb. The Bean Eaters also do not have much to their name. it says They eat beans mostly, this old yellow pair. / Dinner is a casual affair. /Plain chipware on a plain and creaking wood, ... For those that are countably infinite, exhibit a one to one correspondence between the set of positive integers and that set. a. The integers greater than 10. This is countably infinite. Starting from the first integer greater than 10, which is 11, one can infinitely count upwards since there is no boundary on the right side of the number line for this instance. The equation Æ’(x) = x + 11 can be used to show a one to one correspondence. x: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ... Æ’(x): 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 ... b. The odd negative integers. This is countably infinite. Integers divisible by 5 but not by 7. This is countably infinite. We can arrange the numbers in a 2 dimensional table as follows: Thus we have shown that our set is the countable union of countable sets (each of the countable sets is one row of this table). Therefore by Exercise 27, the entire set is countable. For an explicit correspondence with the positive integers, we can zigzag along the positive sloping diagonals as in Figure 3: 1↔ .1 , 2↔ 1.1 , 3↔.1, 4↔.11, 5↔1, and so on. d. The real numbers with decimal representations of all 1s or 9s. This set is not countable. Based on current estimates, oil and natural gas will peak by 2040. In addition, over the past 50 years, the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history (MacMillan Para 1). The United States needs to figure out a way to fulfill their massive demand for power while ensuring the safety of the planet. There are many possible ways to attack the problem at hand. The first proposal is to mandate the installment of solar rooftop units throughout the country. Another proposal is to install solar parks throughout the country. A final proposal is to simply incentivize the use and development of solar energy while phasing out fossil fuels. By implementing one of these three proposals, the United States government could help solve a problem that looms over the entire population. The major problem solar energy will look to fix is global warming. Global warming is the gradual increase of the average global temperature. This rise in heat is caused by the greenhouse effect, which is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth s atmosphere trap heat. However, Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, which is arguably the most famous love story in the world, could also be seen as a warning against love. The play Romeo and Juliet shows how platonic and romantic love can cause tragedy. First of all, platonic love caused tragedy in Romeo and Juliet. One of the ways platonic love lead to tragedy was through the love and loyalty between Romeo and his best friend, Mercutio. After Tybalt killed Mercutio when Romeo refused to fight him, Romeo wanted to avenge his friend. He challenged Tybalt to a fight and exclaimed And fire eyed fury be my conduct now. (3. 1. ... Gold Is Money But Water Is Life Isis Wilson 04/05/16 Hennessey Gold is Money but Water is Life The search for new mining locations around the world has been significant to many mining corporations in the United States and Canada. Since the areas within these boundaries are being used up or are extremely expensive, many have taken their operations to developing countries in Latin America. El Salvador is one of the next countries that Pacific Rim, a Canadian Australian firm that produces gold and copper, is looking to open mines in. The extreme leeching process that must take place to extract the tiny particles of gold discovered in the El Dorado mine can and will be extremely detrimental to the livelihood of the Salvadoran people and the country as a whole. El Salvador s lack of natural resources, current issues of deforestation, and poverty are becoming significant factors in the bleak future that the country must prepare for. While the Pacific Rim Corporation believes that mining activity in El Salvador will create more jobs and economic growth, further exploration will and has created an environment of hostility. The Salvadorian government must continue to further their efforts to defend their current mining ban and refusal to grant extraction permits but also engage in efforts of economic empowerment and an increase of land control. After the civil war in the early 1990s, the Salvadorian government was confronted with an outstanding issue of economic and social turmoil which required the government to request for international aid. It is formatted as a letter to his son, Samori, at the age of fifteen. It s intention being to help him through navigate the world as a young African American male. He does this through sharing personal experiences and analyzing current events, with regards to historical context. This is what late poet Dylan Thomas faced when he found out his father was battling with blindness and certain illnesses. To express his feelings about the situation, the poet wrote: Do not go gentle into that good night . In this poem, Thomas tells his father to keep fighting for his life because there is much more to life than he knows. Using the structure, diction, symbolism, and anaphora of the poem, Thomas emphasizes a universal message in Do not go gentle into that good night : Never easily submit one s life to death because life is worth fighting for.Notably, the structure of the poem is significant to the message the poem portrays. The poem is divided up into six stanzas where the first five stanzas consist of three lines and the last stanza consists of four lines. The first five stanzas tell the reader that the speaker wants someone to keep living and fight against death. However, in the last stanza, the speaker reveals to the readers that the he is referring to his father. The last stanza, being comprised of four lines rather than three, further emphasizes the speaker s desire to have his father fight death and live life.In addition to this structure of the poem, rhyme also plays an important role in emphasizing the author s message. • 35. Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s The Surety Of Fools Voltaire once said, Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an absurd one. We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s fear of uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted that uncertainty grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so they do not have time to question their explanation. However, Kahneman neglects to mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins his essay by describing his experience in evaluating ... It is said that the surface may have rock and ice but with current technology it is difficult to tell. However, on May 16, 2007 scientists calculated that GJ436b s diameter is 3.95 +/ 0.35 Earths diameter. These measurements allowed the scientists to deduce that the planet could sustain exotic ice based on size, mass and location relative to its star. In describing the location of GJ436b, it orbits its star at a distance of roughly 0.02887 (+/ 0.00095) AU. Thus making a red dwarf a good candidate for life to grow, develop and become advanced. Another point to consider is that many planets orbiting M dwarf, red dwarf stars are highly likely to have large amounts of water which suggests the idea that there could be many habitable planets surrounding a red dwarf star. However, red dwarf stars have a few big problems. Due to the low luminosity of a red dwarf, planets have to be relatively close for it to be in the known habitable zone. And by being so close, planets face hostile conditions. One condition is the barrage of stellar wind, which could strip a planets atmosphere. Factors that Shaped the Modern Olympic Movement DBQ Essay Some factors that shaped the modern Olympic movement from 1892 to 2002 were the increased participation of women in the games due to women s suffrage, the rising nationalism and superiority over competitors that took place, and the increase in trade and funding. The modern Olympic movement was shaped through the soaring advocation of women s rights (2, 8). An anonymous photographer (#2), in the 1908 Olympic games held in Great Britain where only 2 percent of women participated in the games, presents a photograph of Sybil Newall, a female British competitor at the games, and advocates women participating in the games. This photographer might have this view because he or she is a feminist that took place in the women suffrage movement and is baffled that solely two percent of athletes were women, and is urging the Olympics to make a great change. These principles along with other essentials of effective communication, like language, planning and organization make the written communication effective. * Clarity: The writing should be correctly planned and expressed in a logical way,and the writer should make sure that the ideas flow smoothly from beginning to end. Coherence means, tying together of several ideas, under one main topic in any paragraph. Smooth flow, lucidity and transition aspects should be given effect to and there should not be any scope for the reader to misinterpret, mis read or mis spell the message. Coherence is given to a larger paragraph or section of a message and leads to purposeful communication where the writer is well received, read, understood and acted upon by the reader. * Conciseness: Conciseness is an important factor in effective communication. It means saying all that needs to be said and no more. The aimless verbiage, unnecessary details and heavy paragraphs make our communication ridiculous and ineffective. We must omit those words and sentences from our message, which are not likely to bring about results. The message, which can be expressed in fewer words, is more impressive and effective than the same message expressed in a number of words. The communicator must organize his message in such a way that every word in it is meaningful and of interest to the receiver. Even a single word or a sentence, which does not contribute to accomplish the purpose of the communication, should be carefully omitted. Dumb Success Definition Raghad Abdelhaq Professor Gillespie ENGL 1101 LL 9 November 2016 First Draft: 2045 Dumb Success It is a harsh reality that in today s business world there are a lot of dumb, foolish idiots that are extremely successful. Why should someone so unintelligent and perhaps less passionate and dedicated be so monetarily successful in the business world? According to the researcher Laurie Varga, people are more inclined towards success due to the personality traits that are found more frequently in foolish people than in sharp and intelligent people (Varga). Also, there are quite a few factors that lead to success that have nothing to do with intelligence or lack thereof. Mainstream media and school systems teach people that the way to success is thru intelligence. However, people who are not intelligent have constantly been found to be successful time and time again. Bob Hoffman, who created one of the world s most influential marketing and advertising blogs states that out of all the people he met in business, the majority were astonishingly stupid (Hoffman) One example is the well renowned and successful Larry King. King, an American television and radio host who has been recognized with awards including two Peabodys and ten Cable ACE Awards, answers the question that everyone has been asking. What Kelly fails to realize is that several people do not detest their jobs, and robots cannot do every job that humans can do.
