The Dubious Hamlet Research Paper
The Dubious Hamlet
As one of the most critically acclaimed plays in history, Hamlet happens to be a main source of debate
along with one of the best stories of revenge. William Shakespeare wrote Hamlet during the early
1600 s setting the play in Denmark during the late medieval time. While boasting an advanced plot
and ambiguous themes, Shakespeare perfectly portrays well developed characters in his play. These
characters will continue to be studied for decades further; one of those characters would be Hamlet.
Hamlet is not only the protagonist, but also the main focal point for the majority of the themes in the
book. In the play, he learns the cause of his father s premature death, and sweeps to revenge. However,
Hamlet struggles with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to the ones Hamlet genuinely loves, very few characters spring to mind, of them being
Gertrude and Horatio. Hamlet displays his obedience to his mother and care to his friend in the book. I
shall in all my best obey you, madam, (Shakespeare Act 2 Scene 1: 120) says Hamlet as he graciously
agrees to his beloved mother. Unfortunately, issues arise when his mother spends little to no time
grieving over her dead husband and quickly marries her brother in law. No matter how furious Hamlet
gets with his mother, he never thinks about harming her. With his mother, even in his moment of
greatest revulsion at her actions, he limits himself to speaking daggers to her even though he is
sufficiently overwrought to use them (Aichinger). Hamlet possesses every right to be upset with his
mother, but the genuine love he feels for his mother proves stronger than his anger. Thus supporting
the fact Hamlet does not lack a conscience or morals. Clearly, Hamlet exhibits a deeper reasoning than
any other character in the play: Throughout the play, he displays gentility and a moral sense superior
to that of any other person. His treatment of Horatio and the players is democratic and humane
(Aichinger). The form of conscience and reasoning that readers observe occurs in the cordial
colloquies between Hamlet and Horatio. Horatio happens to be Hamlet s best friend in the play, and
Hamlet values his friend Horatio as much as his mother. Hamlet s conversations with Horatio differ
from any other character in the book because a passionate and reverent side of Hamlet appears. But
we must remark how Hamlet speaks of Horatio; he does so in words of passionate admiration. His
election has sealed Horatio for himself because in suffering all, Horatio suffered nothing; and it is the
man

Why Is Andrew Carnegie A Captain Of Industry
Andrew Carnegie: A Captain of Industry Andrew Carnegie, a Gilded Age industrialist, was a captain
of industry, because he expanded the American steel industry through hard work, becoming one of the
richest people in history, and then donated about 90% of his fortune in an attempt to improve society.
Andrew Carnegie was born into poverty in Scotland and immigrated to the United States with his
family for the prospect of a better life. Although, in the United States, his family still struggled to
make ends meet until Carnegie was offered a job at a cotton mill as a bobbin boy, changing spools of
thread for 12 hours a day, six days a week for $1.20 per week. He became the primary breadwinner of
his family at the age of 12. After years of working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carnegie earned a lot of money from his investments and quit his job with the railroad to focus on his
business affairs, which included frequent traveling to Europe to sell railroad bonds. On one trip,
Andrew Carnegie met the English inventor, Sir Henry Bessemer, who had invented a new process for
making high quality steel efficiently and cheaply. After meeting Bessemer, Carnegie decided to
concentrate his investments in the steel industry. He opened a steel company in Pittsburgh and adapted
his steel mills to use the Bessemer process. The process allowed Andrew Carnegie to manufacture
steel efficiently and cheaply. To increase manufacturing efficiency even further, Carnegie began the
vertical and horizontal integration of the steel industry, which allowed Carnegie Steel Company to
save money as it expanded. He quickly became one of the richest people in history due to his hard
work before the creation of Carnegie Steel and during its operation. Andrew Carnegie sold Carnegie
Steel Company to J.P. Morgan. Carnegie became a philanthropist in his retirement and gave away
$350 million, which was about 90% of his fortune. He built

Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Human nature can be described in many different ways by people all across the world, because the
way people act in certain situations can affect your normal behavior . The proper definition of human
nature is the the general psychological characteristics, feelings, and behavioral traits of humankind,
regarded as shared by all humans. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, one of the main characters,
Ralph was biased against Piggy because of his appearance he thought that he was weak,
He hesitated for a moment, then spoke again. What s your name? Ralph. The fat boy to be asked his
name in turn but this proffer of acquaintance was not made; the fair boy called Ralph smiled vaguely,
stood up, and began to make his way once more toward the lagoon. The fat boy hung steadily at his
shoulder. Then he tripped over a branch and came down with a crash. The fat boy stood by him,
breathing hard. My auntie told me not to run, he explained, on account of my asthma. Ass mar? That s
right. Can t catch my breath. I was the only boy in our school what had asthma, said the fat boy with a
touch of pride. (Golding 9).
Golding shows that there is evil in human nature, when they first introduce the beast, Jack brushed it
off and told everyone that there is not a beast and if he was he was going to kill it.
,
He wants to know what you re going to do about the snake thing. Ralph laughed, and the other boys
laughed with him. The small boy twisted further into himself. Tell us about the snake thing. Now he
says it was a beastie. Beastie? A snake thing. Ever so big. He saw it. Where? In the woods. Either the
wandering breezes or perhaps the decline of the sun allowed a little coolness to lie under the trees...
You couldn t have a beastie, a snake thing, on an island this size, Ralph explained kindly. Ralph s right
of course. There isn t a snake thing. But if there was a snake we d hunt it and kill it. (Golding 35).
The author used the paint Jack put on his face as a symbol of savagery, it was used as a camouflage
for so he can go hunting for pigs. They don t smell me. They see me, I think. Something pink, under
the trees. ... He turned a half concealed face up to Roger and answered

Summary Of A Survival Plan For The Wild Cyborg
Technology is taking over the world. A Survival Plan for the Wild Cyborg article by Rinie Van Est is
an excellent article focusing on how technology has developed and adapted towards human s
lifestyles. As technology becomes increasingly advanced humans are becoming less human.
Relationships are being destroyed by obsessive internet use, children are constantly checking their
phones, and society is only caring about what new technology will come out next. When was the last
time I saw someone walking in public without a cell phone glued to their hand or ear? As technology
takes over, it is time to set boundaries. Rinie Van Est argues that humans have become so addicted to
technology that we are becoming more and more like machines. We are ... Show more content on

One idea is that we must freely make our own decisions about our life and ambitions. I believe that the
world is beautiful and diverse. It is okay to be different and being unique is better than blending in to
feel wanted. We all have a different view on life, what is right, what is wrong, and how to live. We
need to let people be themselves and not judge others because of diversity. Also, the acts of loving,
caring for, and parenting need to be our priority. When we stop caring less about technology and more
for our loved ones we will cherish what is important to us. My children are my world and I want to
show them I care by providing love, attention, support, encouragement, and acceptance. When my
children are speaking to me, I want to show them they are being heard by looking at them and not
staring at my phone. Finally, we will learn by trial and error. We are not perfect; unfortunately, we will
all make mistakes. The beauty in making mistakes is learning from them. The world would be dull if
everyone was perfect and the same. Let s start loving our differences, accepting others choices, and
learning from our own mistakes. We need to let others make mistakes so they can learn and grow from
them. To be compassionate towards others, we must stop making judgements and accept our

recalling the match, Miandad stated that his main focus was to lose with dignity. With 31 runs needed
in the last three overs, Miandad hit a string of boundaries while batting with his team s lower order,
until four runs were required from the last delivery of the match. Miandad received a leg side full toss

At the 1992 World Cup Semi Final, having won the toss, New Zealand chose to bat first and ended
with a total of 262 runs. Pakistan batted conservatively yet lost wickets at regular intervals. With the
departure of Imran Khan and Saleem Malik shortly thereafter, Pakistan still required 115 runs at a rate
of 7.67 runs per over with veteran Javed Miandad being the only known batsman remaining at the
crease. A young Inzamam ul Haq, who had just turned 22 and was not a well known player at the time,
burst onto the international stage with a match winning 60 off 37 balls. Once Inzamam got out,
Pakistan required 36 runs from 30 balls, which wicketkeeper Moin Khan ended with a towering six
over long off, followed by the winning boundary to midwicket. The match is seen as the emergence of
Inzamam onto the international cricket.

Essay about Explanation for Criminality from a...
Explanation for Criminality from a Sociological Perspective
From a sociological perspective, explanation for criminality is found in two levels which are the
subculture and the structural explanations. The sociological explanations emphasize aspects of societal
arrangements that are external to the actor and compelling. A sociological explanation is concerned
with how the structure of a society, institutional practices or its persisting cultural themes affect the
conduct of its members. Individual differences are denied or ignored, and the explanation of the
overall collective behavior is sought in the patterning of social arrangements that is considered to be
both outside the actor and prior to him (Sampson, 1985).
That is, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is in this change and variety that crime is defined. An application of this principle to criminology
would find the roots of the crime in the fact that groups have developed different standards of
appropriate behavior. In those complex cultures, each individual is subject to competing prescriptions
for action.
Another subcultural explanation of crime grows readily out of the fact that as we have seen, social
classes experience different rates of arrest and conviction for serious offenses. When within a society
categories are marked off by income, education and occupational prestige. Here differences are
discovered among them in the amount an style of the crime. Further, differences are usually found
between these social classes in their interests and morals. Its easy to describe these class linked
patterns as a culture.
This version of the subcultural explanation of crime holds that the very fact of learning the lessons of
the subculture means that one acquires interests and preferences that place him in greater or lesser risk
of breaking the law. Others argue that being reared on the lower class means learning a different
culture from that which creates the criminal laws. The lower class subculture is said to have its own
values as many of which run counter to the majority interest that support the laws against the serious
predatory crimes. One needs to not that the indicators of class are not descriptions of class.

Reasons Behind Head Shaving In The United States
The act of head shaving ranges from pure laziness to punishment, to identifying oneself. Here in
America it is common to see people with shaved heads but there are some cultures or tribes that don t
allow their members to shave their head let alone any part of their body. But in cultures that do the
reasons behind head shaving are plenty.
There are quite a few reasons the military in countries such as the United States, Russia and several
other countries have their soldiers shave their heads, not completely, but short. For example, on D Day
many allied soldiers shaved their heads so that Germans wouldn t have anything to grab onto during
close encounters. Often, when people see military men on the streets with little to no hair they

Ecological Benefits Of Forest Fires
Forest Fires Forest fires are part of nature that will always keep on occurring, and they can be very
disastrous. In fact most forest fires are started by humans, when they don t know it. However, forest
fires are necessary for plants health, by offering many ecological benefits. There are also actual forests
fires that are permitted to burn that are not fought for that purpose. Then again, if forest fires occur
and are not permitted, firefighters need to take action in their many ways. Therefore, forests fires often
start by humans, has many ecological benefits, and are fought in many ways. Ecological Benefits
Many people think of forest fires as bad and disastrous as figure 1 shows, but what they don t know is
that forest fires have great benefits to the environment. Some say that large forest fires are like shots
of adrenaline that stimulate biodiversity (Robbins). Without these fires many plants would not be able
to grow in their natural way. Those fires recycle nutrients, and create substances that plants need for
growth. Fires also clear trees and some vegetation that can prevent new tree growth. In fact, some
species of Pine and Oak trees grow best when forest fires occur (Parker). Also, some tree species need
very high temperatures for their seeds to sprout (Cooper). Foresters can actually permit certain forest
fires to occur due to all the ecological benefits. These fires are set by firemen in safe conditions far
from human life with low winds and high humidity

The Discovery Of Its Effects On The Body
B nCreatine was first found in 1832 by a French scientist named Michel Eugene Chevreul. This
discovery was found by isolating it from the basified water extract of the skeletal muscle in animals.
He named it creatine after he found concentration of it in animal blood and meat. Justus Von Liebug
confirmed in the year 1847 that creatine can be found in the flesh of animal. During his research he
also found that wild foxes have more creatine in their muscles than their domestic counterparts.
Around 1846, the decomposed product of creatine/creatinine was present in urine. In 1923, the first
research demonstrated that when animals were to intake oral creatine, the result was an increase in
their weight. After they were to stop or slow their creatine intake, their weight increased slowly over
the period of time. In 1926, Alfred Chanutin, showed in his study that humans can retain the storage of
creatine in their muscles by taking 10 grams of creatine during the period of a week. The weight
gained caused by the intake of creatine allowed Chanutin to come to a conclusion that it has an
anabolic effect on humans. However, taking creatine from meat is very expensive for researchers so
they started trying to produce the synthetic version of creatine. This was successfully done in the
laboratory in the 1950 s. The research studies done in 1978 confirmed that creatine guarantees that
nitrogen is retained better in the muscles. This in turns helps muscles to recover faster. Within this

Emile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms Of The Religious Life
Émile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life examines religion through a social
viewpoint, while Claude Lévi Strauss s The Savage Mind compares modern and primitive thought.
Although their topics of interest differ, both works similarly rely on science to explain their
anthropologic theories. Science serves as a useful reference point, since it embodies modern mode of
thinking with high objectivity. Therefore, these writers can expand on their analysis of other ways to
perceive the world by comparing and contrasting with science. The relations created between science
and organized human thought unravel how these anthropologists view science. Durkheim s and Levi
Strauss s allusions to science support their respective arguments about religion and mythical thought,
while revealing anthropology s general perspective of science.
Durkheim argues that religion shares fundamental qualities with science, exposing his beliefs on the
purpose of science. First, Durkheim notes, most of the time debates on the topic of religion turn
around and about on the question of whether religion can or cannot be reconciled with science
(Durkheim 419). Religion s compatibility with the modern world of science comes into question, due
to the cosmological aspects being disproved with empirical evidence. In many theorists eyes, religion
would be an internal system of beliefs expressed externally and material with rites. However,
Durkheim would contend to think about the religion

Effects Of Violence In Macbeth
Modern Macbeth: How Media Violence Affects Society
There seems to be so much violence in modern media that people are worried. It is believed that it
could be very dangerous that this violence being displayed to a public audience has become a social
norm, although, violence in media is definitely not a new idea. In Shakespeare s play, Macbeth,
Macbeth is a successful warrior who helps his country of Scotland defeat the Norwegians. One day,
Macbeth and his loyal best friend Banquo are walking when they hear three witches speak about their
futures. They stop to listen as the witches continue on about their bright futures ahead, including the
prophecies that Macbeth will become king as well as Banquo s sons. After hearing this, Macbeth and
his wife, Lady Macbeth, decide that they need to take matters into their own hands and do whatever it
takes to be king. Macbeth goes to the greatest extremes and kills several people throughout his journey
with the greedy goal to obtain more power. Violence has been around since even before Shakespeare
wrote Macbeth, but it did not seem to be as big of an issue as it is now. Violence in media can be
really dangerous in many cases because of the effects of people s attraction to fictional violence, the
suggestion that violence has become acceptable over time, and it is desensitizing the youth.
A large population of people seem to enjoy fictional violence whether it be a scary movie such as,
Psycho, or video games such as, Call of Duty. There

Student Veterans And Traditional Students
As the number of student veterans continues to increase within the university system, it is imperative
to examine both the similarities and the differences between student veterans and traditional students
(students without military experience), and what effect those differences may have on student veterans
ability to succeed. We surveyed thirty undergraduates at the University of Alaska Anchorage,
assessing their grade point average, age, hours spent studying, and various other factors which we
deemed our criteria for success . In doing so, we believed that we would find a radical difference
between the grade point average of student veterans compared to their traditional counterparts. The
data collected suggests that our hypothesis was correct: student veterans were a letter grade behind
their peers. This gap in achievement between the two groups suggests that student veterans ability to
adjust to life within the university system requires further examination. As more veterans continue to
seek higher education, it is essential that those within the university system strive to understand, and
alleviate some of the difficulties burdening this emerging demographic.

Catecholamines and Cortisol Help to Fight Stress
When stress occurs, our bodies respond by releasing hormones that help our bodies deal with the
stress. Catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and cortisol are hormones that are major
players in the stress response (McCance Huether, 2010).
Catecholamines share some common physiologic actions with cortisol. Catecholamines and its
metabolic actions are similar to those of cortisol. Both catecholamines and cortisol cause an increase
in blood glucose through increased gluconeogenesis (McCance Huether, 2010). Gluconeogenesis is
the production of glucose when the activation of certain enzymes occur (McCance Huether, 2010).
Both epinephrine and cortisol also cause an increase in blood glucose by preventing cells in the body
from the uptake of glucose and decreasing the effects of insulin (Judd, n.d.). Catecholamines and
cortisol both cause an increase in cardiac output and an increase in blood pressure as well (McCance
Huether, 2010). Catecholamines do this by enhancing myocardial contractility, increasing heart rate,
and increasing the blood (venous) returning to the heart (McCance Huether, 2010). Cortisol aids in
this effect by increasing the amount of receptors that epinephrine and norepinephrine can attach to
(Judd, n.d.). Cortisol and catecholamines both cause lipolysis is some areas of the body. This occurs in
the extremities with cortisol, but most areas of the body with catecholamines (McCance Huether,
2010). Strangely enough, both

Biography Of Ida B. Wells
While doing some research on Ida B. Wells I found out that she had been born a slave, just before
emancipation. She attended Rust College and became a school teacher at Memphis. In 1887, she was
thrown out of a train because she refused to get out of her seat. It took the conductor (who she bit),
baggageman, and another white man to kick her out of the train, She sued the Chesapeake Ohio
Railroad for not allowing her to sit at the ladies car, and show won at the local court, however, the
Tennessee s supreme court reversed the ruling. She then quickly became on the most radical voices of

Walter J. Paulits Ambivalence Of Young Goodman Brown
Walter J. Paulits examines the character Goodman Brown through his actions of attending a meeting
with the witches and falling for the temptations of the Devil. Goodman Brown was a man of good
nature, yet his attendance to a meeting with the Devil changes everything. He discards his wife s
advice and starts on his journey through the woods. While falling for each of the Devil s temptations,
he proceeds into the woods leading to the climax of the walk into the woods with the meeting with the
witches. Paulits examines Brown as a man who represents ambivalence through his actions in the
woods. I agree with Paulits examination of ambivalence of Young Goodman Brown because of the
changes which Brown experiences because of the decision he makes to walk in to the woods.

Spiritually, he is tormented by the Devil because of his willing to tempt and persuade which leads to
his lack of trust in his wife (Paulits). Brown regrettably never sees the ambiguity that is necessary, yet
the Devil has created two meanings as one and filled it with one of the feelings contending with
him...ambivalence has led Brown to the point where ambiguity confuses him (Paulits 582). I believe
that Goodman Brown was a weak character and eventually becomes highly affected by the
temptations of the Devil. He fights with his faith in humankind and his own self (Pualits). Doubt
destroys Brown which leads to his potential downfall of a caring human being. His decisions had
consequences that he was unfortunately unaware of, leading Brown to disregarding his wife, listening
to the Devil, and ultimately becoming a changed man within his own community. The ambivalence of
Goodman Brown gets him in trouble because he has constant mixed feelings and contradictory ideas
leading him to listen to the Devil rather than his wife,

Analysis Of Sonnet 130
Poetry is a form of writing in where the author expresses his or her emotions through style and
rhythm. There is no one specific reason why people like poetry. Not only is poetry personal, it can also
be deeply emotional to people, as poems can bring back memories and experiences that have
resonated throughout the reader s life. Love poetry is not only deeply emotional for people, but it s
something most people can relate to as most people will experience some form of love throughout
their life. Easily the most famous poet in history, Shakespeare, had many thoughts on love, and many
of his poems invoke this emotion. Sonnet 130 specifically is thought provoking and much more
relatable than other poems of the 1600 s, and like most of Shakespeare s sonnets, this poem is an
expression of love. This is due to the fact that Shakespeare does not make the woman in the poem out
to be some sort of goddess. In telling his mistress that he loves her, our speaker also has to give us an
idea about what his love is like. He is stating who and what she is, and that at the end of the day, his
love is not only beautiful, but unique, exclusive and rare.
Sonnet 130 was written during the 1600 s. Many poets during this time stylised their lover or whomst
ever they were writing about as divine and perfect in everyway. Sonnet 130 is considered by many to
make a mockery of this. This sonnet compares the speaker s lover to a number of other beauties, and
never in the lover s favor. In the first

Aphorisms In The Importance Of Being Earnest
One of Oscar Wilde s most notable works, The Importance of Being Earnest, showcases Wilde s
bizarre and arguably backwards take on the literary device known as an aphorism. Most commonly,
aphorisms are used in a didactic context and tend to reflect some form of ethical guideline or universal
truth. It is easy to write off Wilde s utilization of the device as ironic, as the aphorisms used in the play
demonstrate values that are diametrically opposed to those we recognize in the real world; however,
due to the aforementioned fact that aphorisms are typically meant to point out a universal truth, it can
be argued that Wilde s use of the device is quite proper in the sense that the specific universe created
in the work just happens to be different

The Black s Quest for a Home Ownership in A Raisin in the Sun and in America
In the famous 1959 kitchen debate with Russian premier Nikita Khrushchev, Richard Nixon asserted
the American Dream of homeownership was available to all Americans regardless of class, race, or
any other social constraint. For Nixon, this claim was proof of America s dominance over Russia of
democracy s superiority over communism. Nixon, however, greatly exaggerated the availability of
homeownership; owning a home in the suburbs was not an option for all Americans, particularly
African Americans. Government subsidies, which were so important in making homes affordable,
were not extended to blacks. Furthermore, suburban communities around the ... Show more content on

The economic business cycle of the world is its own living and breathing entity expanding and
contracting with imprecise balances involving supply and demand. The expansions and contractions
also known as booms and recessions support a delicate equilibrium of checks and balances,
employment and unemployment. The year 1929 marked the beginning of the downward spiral of this
delicate economic balance known as The Great Depression of the United States of America. The Great

The economists who believed in the predominate state blamed the free market and the free marketers
blamed the government for involving policy in an economic issue. Whatever theory one chooses to
follow it is imperative to comprehend the various factors that caused the Great Depression in order to
avoid the past from repeating itself through poor economic judgment.
Bank Failures
The first cause of the Great Depression under scrutiny is the analysis of the bank failures that occurred
leading up to the depression. During its early stages, any bank that had a loan out to a stock market
investor placed itself at a large risk. This coupled with bank runs, which are the liquidation of funds by
bank members en masse, continued to make matters worse even for the stronger financial institutions.
The government led by President Hoover decided to allow contraction to fall on profits instead of
dividends as part of his monetary policy. The nation s firms followed this advice resulting in an initial
drop in corporate profits. This drop created a domino effect resulting in plummeting firm securities,
which manifested the decay of bank portfolios. Blinded by his own ambition, Hoover felt that he
should pass a fiscal policy to show his faith in the American economy. Since there was a continuation
of budget surpluses, his administration reduced the income tax rates, which ultimately led to a budget
deficit. To remedy the

The Use Of Light And Light In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
The novel The Road is a tale filled with evil and darkness with nights dark beyond darkness and the
days more gray than what had gone before (McCarthy ). An unspecified apocalypse has razed the
world and nearly all of human civilization, leaving a desolate world for a man and his son to traverse.
In this gray, dull world there is little in the way of color or light to be seen. The sky has become gray,
and the sun has been obscured, reduced to a faint, dim light. In this dark, achromatic world the use of
color and light is reserved for objects and ideas of importance. Cormac McCarthy utilizes this scarcity
of light and color throughout the novel to provide contrast between the old world and new, and
between good and evil and to draw attention to important object and topics. The primary use of this
contrast between light and dark is the man and boy s metaphorical task to carry the fire. The man and
boy are stuck trudging day by day in a barren, scorched landscape of gray, endlessly foraging in
wasted buildings for food and supplies (Hage 140). Murderers, cannibals, and thieves roam the bleak
landscape, and evidence of their evils is witnessed at every turn of the pair s ill fated journey. The man
and boy are one of the few people still holding on to their humanity in this wasteland that demands
they abandon it in order to survive. The world that they inhabit is one of absolute darkness. This
darkness ecompases not only the physical darkness and inhospitidy of the landscape littered with
corpses, the sun blotted out, flora and fauna dead, [and] the seas poisoned, but also the moral
corruption that has engulfed humanity. In this expanse of darkness the man and boy are just an oddity.
Two of the last of the survivors carrying the fire and serving as a pocket of goodness in a corrupt
world. Additionally, the boy s role as this metaphorical fire serves an important role in the man s
ethical dilemma. The man has little desire to live in the world that he has been involuntarily thrown
into. Whereas the man s wife ultimately came to the conclusion that suicide was the only sane option
presented to them, the man is much more hesitant. After watching his life crumble around him the man
is left with a sole

Alexis De Tocqueville Equality
Alexis De Tocqueville made many keen observations about America from a European perspective. He
begins by stating that Americans have mistakenly believed that with equality we can have freedom,
and that with democracy we can have liberty. America passes laws and makes decisions based on
majority rule; consequently, because of this, we may never have true equality or democracy. For
example, slavery was considered legal for hundreds of years in the United States. This is because a
majority of the people in the legislative, executive, and judiciary branches of government were upper
class white men. There may have been equality for white men, but there was never true equality
during this period of time. The rights of slaves, women, and immigrants were ... Show more content

11, 1956). In regards to personal expression, Tocqueville thought that democracy took away from
individuality. As the number of groups of people gaining equality increases, we have begun to take on
more pride in that equality and sameness. Incidentally, we, as Americans, have begun to concentrate
less on our individuality. ...every citizen, being assimilated to all the rest, is lost in the crowd, and
nothing stands conspicuous but the great and imposing image of the people at large (Hofner and
others, p. 11, 1956). When examining this quote, one should look to the Native Americans as a prime
example. White settlers strongly desired the Native s land in order to fulfill Manifest Destiny. In order
to acquire the land, Native Americans were forcibly made to live on reservations. They were made to
operate like the majority at the time, white farmers. Settlers wanted the Indians to assimilate in this
fashion; only when they assimilated could the Natives even consider to become American citizens. A

The Philadelphia Police Report From A Police Department
Ratcliffe, J. H., Taniguchi, T., Groff, E. R., Wood, J. D. (2011) focused on hotspots in Philadelphia. To
find these hotspots the researchers used violent crimes such as homicide, aggravated assault and
robberies from the Incident Transmittal System (INCT) database of the Philadelphia police report
from 2006 2008. These measures have face validity since these are common violent crime that large
cities have. The database used is a valid way to estimate crime, but also does have limitations. The
researchers were able to use a t test with linear regression models to find the impact of footpaths while
taking into consideration of extraneous influences. The limitations of using official data from a police

The actual style of policing the foot patrols did vary from community oriented to proactive policing.
Ratcliffe et al,. (2011) sampled more than 200 foot patrol officers and used geographic information
systems (GIS) to create randomized controls for crime hotspots. Previous studies had lacked this GIS
technology, which could be a reason for different results. Results showed significant reduction of
violent crime in the experimental group after 12 weeks, and when including the control group there
were 53 violent crimes that were prevented. Contradicting previous findings this showed that foot
patrols are actually effective in preventing violent crime in crime hotspots. When differences in the
starting level of violent crime were accounted for there was no significant differences in treatment and
control areas. The unit of analysis was the Voronoi network which consists of areal units. There were
120 foot patrols found which the police would have patrols in 16 hours a day, 5 days a week, and used
officers recently out of the academy. These officers who are recent academy graduates may have
different tactics than other officers since they may want to prove themselves and are excited to be a
new police officer. This use of new officers may be a mechanism at work reducing crimes as well. The
researchers used a quasi random number generator to assign and control

patients than a physician does (Hendrich et al., 2008). Nevertheless, media sources have always

and angels of mercy, the profession is often sexualized, stereotyped, and undermined in its importance

Negotiation Process, Alternative And The Outcome
According to Rubin and Brown (1975), negotiation refers to a process in which individuals work

each other offers. There has to be several components that need to be matched between two parties

A Brand New Therapy
Cellatroniks is a brand new therapy in the United Kingdom, although it has been practiced in the
United States for 25 years by its founder Teddy Gagnan. Also called dynamic energy therapy, it boosts
energy fields in the body, which in turn strengthens the immune system and enhances the body s
healing capacity. According to Trick Or Treatment: The Undeniable Facts about Alternative Medicine
by Simon Singh, Edzard Ernst, The therapy works by sending invisible and soundless energy waves
into the body via key points the hands, feet, back of the neck, chest, shoulder and abdomen. A central
machine stores different programmes for enhancing different parts of the body or body systems for
example, there are programmes for the kidneys, the endocrine system, the digestion, the eyes, the legs
and the circulation. Patients sit in a comfortable chair and the energy is fed into the body via a flat
metal plate known as an enhancer. Some patients feel a warmth spreading from the plate, others say
they feel no sensation. Laboratory tests have shown that once the energy is passed into the body
differences can be found in the brain waves; patients report feeling relaxed and later energized. Teddy
Gagnan describes the treatment as a food for the body , supplying energy where it is deficient. This in
turns helps to achieve balance in the body, enabling it to combat disease and disorder. Cellatroniks

Analysis Of Bad Day By Daniel Poster
Bad Day by Daniel Poster has been a song that has influenced my life since I can remember. It is
really the first song that i remember hearing from my child hood. Every time it came on the radio me
and my mom blasted it. The song goes through the motion in a third person narrative of someone
having a bad day. I remembered during my childhood when I was having a bad day I would blast this
song and it would make me in a better mood. It really begin the foundation of music for me. This song
spoke volumes to me and it would instantly change my mood when I heard it. Now when I hear it I
instantly am drawn to memories of me and my mother blasting it. It takes me back to my child hood in
a way. I remember my favorite lines from the song was, You re taking one down. You sing a sad song
just to turn it around. Its ironic, but sometimes listening to sad music will brighten my mood. I related
a lot with that verse and the rest of the song. This is why Bad Day by Daniel Poster is part of my

Wicca s Role In Pagan Religion
Virtually everyone has heard of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. But among the three religions that are
close to being tied for fourth place in the United States, almost everyone has heard of Buddhism and

major reason for this is that many Wiccans tend to keep their religion secret; they fear physical and

the music turned off again and then they were all in sync again. The lighting was a yellowish color,
and their costumes were simple and flowy. The connection between this dance piece and our dance
class was when how we all would start in sync with one another, the would be given a few counts to
make up our own 8 count of dancing and then we would all become in sync with the same dance
again. This happened multiple times throughout the dance, which is

The Environmental Impact Of Marine Oil Spills
Effects, Recovery and Compensation
Dr. Brian Dicks
Technical Team Manager, International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Ltd Paper presented at
the International Seminar on Tanker Safety, Pollution Prevention, Spill Response and Compensation,
6th November 1998, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
INTRODUCTION The short term effects of oil spills on marine species and communities are well
known and predictable. However, concerns are often raised about possible longer term ( sub lethal )
population effects through, for example, low levels of residual oil affecting the ability of certain
species to breed successfully. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following definition developed by a group of independent scientists takes these problems into
account: Recovery is marked by the re establishment of a healthy biological community in which the
plants and animals characteristic of that community are present and functioning normally. It may not
have the same composition or age structure as that which was present before the damage, and will
continue to show further change and development. It is impossible to say whether an ecosystem that
has recovered from an oil spill is the same as, or different from, that which would have persisted in the
absence of the spill. Recovery depends upon both removal of oil which is toxic or physically
smothering, and biological processes, e.g. settlement of larvae and growth of seedlings. Whilst clean
up is normally the first step in the recovery process, complete removal of all oil is not necessary there
are many examples of recovery progressing in the presence of weathered oil residues.

Whatever the extent of damage, the reproductive success of the survivors, as well as the influx of
eggs, juveniles or adults from unaffected areas underpins the recovery process. Many marine species
produce vast numbers of eggs and larvae which are widely distributed in the plankton by currents.
This is a strategy to overcome high rates of

Clarence Thomas Case Study
Clarence Thomas was born June 23rd, 1948 in Pin Point, Georgia. Clarence became the second
African American justice to serve on the United States Supreme Court. His appointment was one of
the most controversial in history. Thomas was sworn in to the Supreme Court on October 23rd, 1991
by Congress. The retirement of Thurgood Marshall led former president George H.W. Bush to
nominate a new justice (Bio, 2016). Thomas did not always have aspirations of becoming a Supreme
Court Justice. When Thomas was sixteen he earned admittance to St. Vianney seminary to pursue his
dream of becoming a Catholic priest ( Chicago Kent College of Law at Illinois Tech, 2016). Thomas
obtained excellent grades but struggled with racially charged bullying. By 1967 ... Show more content

Senators should analyze the experience, the qualifications and most importantly how their nomination
would affect the balance of the court. In 1991, senators and the public flooded Capitol Hill with
telephone calls and telegrams, the Senate voted 52 to 48 in favor of Thomas. Eleven Democrats joined
41 of the 43 Republicans in supporting him (Jr.Apple, 1991). Thomas Clarence did not have much
experience nor qualifications as a judge which contributed heavily on his rating by the ABA. The
balance of the court is an essential aspect as well. When Thomas filled the vacancy for Marshall the
court s liberal justices were declining which gave the advantage to the conservatives (Dowd, 1991).
The court became more balanced with confirmation of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 1993. A senator
should not vote solemnly on a nominees political views or their qualifications, it should be a
compilation of both. In conclusion, despite his obstacles and constant criticism for his lack of
questioning in oral arguments, he has built a reputation as being one of the most conservative justices.
Clarence Thomas has now severed 24 years as a justice on the United States Supreme Court and
shows no signs of retiring ( Chicago Kent College of Law at Illinois Tech,

  • 2. The Dubious Hamlet Research Paper The Dubious Hamlet As one of the most critically acclaimed plays in history, Hamlet happens to be a main source of debate along with one of the best stories of revenge. William Shakespeare wrote Hamlet during the early 1600 s setting the play in Denmark during the late medieval time. While boasting an advanced plot and ambiguous themes, Shakespeare perfectly portrays well developed characters in his play. These characters will continue to be studied for decades further; one of those characters would be Hamlet. Hamlet is not only the protagonist, but also the main focal point for the majority of the themes in the book. In the play, he learns the cause of his father s premature death, and sweeps to revenge. However, Hamlet struggles with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to the ones Hamlet genuinely loves, very few characters spring to mind, of them being Gertrude and Horatio. Hamlet displays his obedience to his mother and care to his friend in the book. I shall in all my best obey you, madam, (Shakespeare Act 2 Scene 1: 120) says Hamlet as he graciously agrees to his beloved mother. Unfortunately, issues arise when his mother spends little to no time grieving over her dead husband and quickly marries her brother in law. No matter how furious Hamlet gets with his mother, he never thinks about harming her. With his mother, even in his moment of greatest revulsion at her actions, he limits himself to speaking daggers to her even though he is sufficiently overwrought to use them (Aichinger). Hamlet possesses every right to be upset with his mother, but the genuine love he feels for his mother proves stronger than his anger. Thus supporting the fact Hamlet does not lack a conscience or morals. Clearly, Hamlet exhibits a deeper reasoning than any other character in the play: Throughout the play, he displays gentility and a moral sense superior to that of any other person. His treatment of Horatio and the players is democratic and humane (Aichinger). The form of conscience and reasoning that readers observe occurs in the cordial colloquies between Hamlet and Horatio. Horatio happens to be Hamlet s best friend in the play, and Hamlet values his friend Horatio as much as his mother. Hamlet s conversations with Horatio differ from any other character in the book because a passionate and reverent side of Hamlet appears. But we must remark how Hamlet speaks of Horatio; he does so in words of passionate admiration. His election has sealed Horatio for himself because in suffering all, Horatio suffered nothing; and it is the man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explanation for Criminality from a Sociological Perspective From a sociological perspective, explanation for criminality is found in two levels which are the subculture and the structural explanations. The sociological explanations emphasize aspects of societal arrangements that are external to the actor and compelling. A sociological explanation is concerned with how the structure of a society, institutional practices or its persisting cultural themes affect the conduct of its members. Individual differences are denied or ignored, and the explanation of the overall collective behavior is sought in the patterning of social arrangements that is considered to be both outside the actor and prior to him (Sampson, 1985). An application of this principle to criminology would find the roots of the crime in the fact that groups have developed different standards of appropriate behavior. In those complex cultures, each individual is subject to competing prescriptions for action. Another subcultural explanation of crime grows readily out of the fact that as we have seen, social classes experience different rates of arrest and conviction for serious offenses. When within a society categories are marked off by income, education and occupational prestige. Here differences are discovered among them in the amount an style of the crime. Further, differences are usually found between these social classes in their interests and morals. Its easy to describe these class linked patterns as a culture. This version of the subcultural explanation of crime holds that the very fact of learning the lessons of the subculture means that one acquires interests and preferences that place him in greater or lesser risk of breaking the law. Others argue that being reared on the lower class means learning a different culture from that which creates the criminal laws. The lower class subculture is said to have its own values as many of which run counter to the majority interest that support the laws against the serious predatory crimes. In fact most forest fires are started by humans, when they don t know it. However, forest fires are necessary for plants health, by offering many ecological benefits. There are also actual forests fires that are permitted to burn that are not fought for that purpose. Then again, if forest fires occur and are not permitted, firefighters need to take action in their many ways. Therefore, forests fires often start by humans, has many ecological benefits, and are fought in many ways. Ecological Benefits Many people think of forest fires as bad and disastrous as figure 1 shows, but what they don t know is that forest fires have great benefits to the environment. Some say that large forest fires are like shots of adrenaline that stimulate biodiversity (Robbins). Without these fires many plants would not be able to grow in their natural way. Those fires recycle nutrients, and create substances that plants need for growth. Fires also clear trees and some vegetation that can prevent new tree growth. In fact, some species of Pine and Oak trees grow best when forest fires occur (Parker). Also, some tree species need very high temperatures for their seeds to sprout (Cooper). Foresters can actually permit certain forest fires to occur due to all the ecological benefits. • 12. The Discovery Of Its Effects On The Body B nCreatine was first found in 1832 by a French scientist named Michel Eugene Chevreul. This discovery was found by isolating it from the basified water extract of the skeletal muscle in animals. He named it creatine after he found concentration of it in animal blood and meat. Justus Von Liebug confirmed in the year 1847 that creatine can be found in the flesh of animal. During his research he also found that wild foxes have more creatine in their muscles than their domestic counterparts. Around 1846, the decomposed product of creatine/creatinine was present in urine. In 1923, the first research demonstrated that when animals were to intake oral creatine, the result was an increase in their weight. After they were to stop or slow their creatine intake, their weight increased slowly over the period of time. In 1926, Alfred Chanutin, showed in his study that humans can retain the storage of creatine in their muscles by taking 10 grams of creatine during the period of a week. The weight gained caused by the intake of creatine allowed Chanutin to come to a conclusion that it has an anabolic effect on humans. However, taking creatine from meat is very expensive for researchers so they started trying to produce the synthetic version of creatine. This was successfully done in the laboratory in the 1950 s. The research studies done in 1978 confirmed that creatine guarantees that nitrogen is retained better in the muscles. This in turns helps muscles to recover faster. Within this ... • 14. Emile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms Of The Religious Life Émile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life examines religion through a social viewpoint, while Claude Lévi Strauss s The Savage Mind compares modern and primitive thought. Although their topics of interest differ, both works similarly rely on science to explain their anthropologic theories. Science serves as a useful reference point, since it embodies modern mode of thinking with high objectivity. Therefore, these writers can expand on their analysis of other ways to perceive the world by comparing and contrasting with science. The relations created between science and organized human thought unravel how these anthropologists view science. Durkheim s and Levi Strauss s allusions to science support their respective arguments about religion and mythical thought, while revealing anthropology s general perspective of science. Durkheim argues that religion shares fundamental qualities with science, exposing his beliefs on the purpose of science. First, Durkheim notes, most of the time debates on the topic of religion turn around and about on the question of whether religion can or cannot be reconciled with science (Durkheim 419). Religion s compatibility with the modern world of science comes into question, due to the cosmological aspects being disproved with empirical evidence. It is believed that it could be very dangerous that this violence being displayed to a public audience has become a social norm, although, violence in media is definitely not a new idea. In Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, Macbeth is a successful warrior who helps his country of Scotland defeat the Norwegians. One day, Macbeth and his loyal best friend Banquo are walking when they hear three witches speak about their futures. They stop to listen as the witches continue on about their bright futures ahead, including the prophecies that Macbeth will become king as well as Banquo s sons. After hearing this, Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth, decide that they need to take matters into their own hands and do whatever it takes to be king. Macbeth goes to the greatest extremes and kills several people throughout his journey with the greedy goal to obtain more power. Violence has been around since even before Shakespeare wrote Macbeth, but it did not seem to be as big of an issue as it is now. Violence in media can be really dangerous in many cases because of the effects of people s attraction to fictional violence, the suggestion that violence has become acceptable over time, and it is desensitizing the youth. A large population of people seem to enjoy fictional violence whether it be a scary movie such as, Psycho, or video games such as, Call of Duty. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Student Veterans And Traditional Students As the number of student veterans continues to increase within the university system, it is imperative to examine both the similarities and the differences between student veterans and traditional students (students without military experience), and what effect those differences may have on student veterans ability to succeed. We surveyed thirty undergraduates at the University of Alaska Anchorage, assessing their grade point average, age, hours spent studying, and various other factors which we deemed our criteria for success . In doing so, we believed that we would find a radical difference between the grade point average of student veterans compared to their traditional counterparts. The data collected suggests that our hypothesis was correct: student veterans were a letter grade behind their peers. This gap in achievement between the two groups suggests that student veterans ability to adjust to life within the university system requires further examination. Catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and cortisol are hormones that are major players in the stress response (McCance Huether, 2010). Catecholamines share some common physiologic actions with cortisol. Catecholamines and its metabolic actions are similar to those of cortisol. Both catecholamines and cortisol cause an increase in blood glucose through increased gluconeogenesis (McCance Huether, 2010). Gluconeogenesis is the production of glucose when the activation of certain enzymes occur (McCance Huether, 2010). Both epinephrine and cortisol also cause an increase in blood glucose by preventing cells in the body from the uptake of glucose and decreasing the effects of insulin (Judd, n.d.). Catecholamines and cortisol both cause an increase in cardiac output and an increase in blood pressure as well (McCance Huether, 2010). Catecholamines do this by enhancing myocardial contractility, increasing heart rate, and increasing the blood (venous) returning to the heart (McCance Huether, 2010). Cortisol aids in this effect by increasing the amount of receptors that epinephrine and norepinephrine can attach to (Judd, n.d.). Not only is poetry personal, it can also be deeply emotional to people, as poems can bring back memories and experiences that have resonated throughout the reader s life. Love poetry is not only deeply emotional for people, but it s something most people can relate to as most people will experience some form of love throughout their life. Easily the most famous poet in history, Shakespeare, had many thoughts on love, and many of his poems invoke this emotion. Sonnet 130 specifically is thought provoking and much more relatable than other poems of the 1600 s, and like most of Shakespeare s sonnets, this poem is an expression of love. This is due to the fact that Shakespeare does not make the woman in the poem out to be some sort of goddess. In telling his mistress that he loves her, our speaker also has to give us an idea about what his love is like. He is stating who and what she is, and that at the end of the day, his love is not only beautiful, but unique, exclusive and rare. Sonnet 130 was written during the 1600 s. Many poets during this time stylised their lover or whomst ever they were writing about as divine and perfect in everyway. Sonnet 130 is considered by many to make a mockery of this. When Mama and Mr. Younger initially rented their apartment on the Southside, it was supposed to be a temporary residence before they bought their own house. But more than thirty years later, the family still resides in the same apartment. The Younger family composed of Mama, Bennie, Walter, his wife Ruth, and their child Travis, all live under the same cramped roof. The play is about the unmet dreams of each member of the family. The epigraph and title of the play, A Raisin in the Sun, are taken from Langston Hughe s famous 1951 poem Montage of a Dream Deferred. Hughe s poem questions whether people surrender to circumstances when their aspirations are frustrated or whether their dreams explode in unpredictable ways after the accumulation of continuos disappointments. The economic business cycle of the world is its own living and breathing entity expanding and contracting with imprecise balances involving supply and demand. The expansions and contractions also known as booms and recessions support a delicate equilibrium of checks and balances, employment and unemployment. The year 1929 marked the beginning of the downward spiral of this delicate economic balance known as The Great Depression of the United States of America. The economists who believed in the predominate state blamed the free market and the free marketers blamed the government for involving policy in an economic issue. Whatever theory one chooses to follow it is imperative to comprehend the various factors that caused the Great Depression in order to avoid the past from repeating itself through poor economic judgment. Bank Failures The first cause of the Great Depression under scrutiny is the analysis of the bank failures that occurred leading up to the depression. During its early stages, any bank that had a loan out to a stock market investor placed itself at a large risk. This coupled with bank runs, which are the liquidation of funds by bank members en masse, continued to make matters worse even for the stronger financial institutions. The government led by President Hoover decided to allow contraction to fall on profits instead of dividends as part of his monetary policy. The nation s firms followed this advice resulting in an initial drop in corporate profits. This drop created a domino effect resulting in plummeting firm securities, which manifested the decay of bank portfolios. Blinded by his own ambition, Hoover felt that he should pass a fiscal policy to show his faith in the American economy. Since there was a continuation of budget surpluses, his administration reduced the income tax rates, which ultimately led to a budget deficit. To remedy the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Use Of Light And Light In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road The novel The Road is a tale filled with evil and darkness with nights dark beyond darkness and the days more gray than what had gone before (McCarthy ). An unspecified apocalypse has razed the world and nearly all of human civilization, leaving a desolate world for a man and his son to traverse. In this gray, dull world there is little in the way of color or light to be seen. The sky has become gray, and the sun has been obscured, reduced to a faint, dim light. In this dark, achromatic world the use of color and light is reserved for objects and ideas of importance. Cormac McCarthy utilizes this scarcity of light and color throughout the novel to provide contrast between the old world and new, and between good and evil and to draw attention to important object and topics. The primary use of this contrast between light and dark is the man and boy s metaphorical task to carry the fire. The man and boy are stuck trudging day by day in a barren, scorched landscape of gray, endlessly foraging in wasted buildings for food and supplies (Hage 140). Murderers, cannibals, and thieves roam the bleak landscape, and evidence of their evils is witnessed at every turn of the pair s ill fated journey. The man and boy are one of the few people still holding on to their humanity in this wasteland that demands they abandon it in order to survive. The world that they inhabit is one of absolute darkness. This darkness ecompases not only the physical darkness and inhospitidy of the landscape littered with corpses, the sun blotted out, flora and fauna dead, [and] the seas poisoned, but also the moral corruption that has engulfed humanity. In this expanse of darkness the man and boy are just an oddity. Two of the last of the survivors carrying the fire and serving as a pocket of goodness in a corrupt world. Additionally, the boy s role as this metaphorical fire serves an important role in the man s ethical dilemma. The man has little desire to live in the world that he has been involuntarily thrown into. Whereas the man s wife ultimately came to the conclusion that suicide was the only sane option presented to them, the man is much more hesitant. After watching his life crumble around him the man is left with a sole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He begins by stating that Americans have mistakenly believed that with equality we can have freedom, and that with democracy we can have liberty. America passes laws and makes decisions based on majority rule; consequently, because of this, we may never have true equality or democracy. For example, slavery was considered legal for hundreds of years in the United States. This is because a majority of the people in the legislative, executive, and judiciary branches of government were upper class white men. When examining this quote, one should look to the Native Americans as a prime example. White settlers strongly desired the Native s land in order to fulfill Manifest Destiny. In order to acquire the land, Native Americans were forcibly made to live on reservations. They were made to operate like the majority at the time, white farmers. To find these hotspots the researchers used violent crimes such as homicide, aggravated assault and robberies from the Incident Transmittal System (INCT) database of the Philadelphia police report from 2006 2008. These measures have face validity since these are common violent crime that large cities have. The database used is a valid way to estimate crime, but also does have limitations. The actual style of policing the foot patrols did vary from community oriented to proactive policing. Ratcliffe et al,. (2011) sampled more than 200 foot patrol officers and used geographic information systems (GIS) to create randomized controls for crime hotspots. Previous studies had lacked this GIS technology, which could be a reason for different results. Results showed significant reduction of violent crime in the experimental group after 12 weeks, and when including the control group there were 53 violent crimes that were prevented. Contradicting previous findings this showed that foot patrols are actually effective in preventing violent crime in crime hotspots. When differences in the starting level of violent crime were accounted for there was no significant differences in treatment and control areas. The unit of analysis was the Voronoi network which consists of areal units. There were 120 foot patrols found which the police would have patrols in 16 hours a day, 5 days a week, and used officers recently out of the academy. These officers who are recent academy graduates may have different tactics than other officers since they may want to prove themselves and are excited to be a new police officer. According to Trick Or Treatment: The Undeniable Facts about Alternative Medicine by Simon Singh, Edzard Ernst, The therapy works by sending invisible and soundless energy waves into the body via key points the hands, feet, back of the neck, chest, shoulder and abdomen. A central machine stores different programmes for enhancing different parts of the body or body systems for example, there are programmes for the kidneys, the endocrine system, the digestion, the eyes, the legs and the circulation. Patients sit in a comfortable chair and the energy is fed into the body via a flat metal plate known as an enhancer. Some patients feel a warmth spreading from the plate, others say they feel no sensation. Laboratory tests have shown that once the energy is passed into the body differences can be found in the brain waves; patients report feeling relaxed and later energized.
